Beautiful Autumn Views

By purpleorchid73 |

The views from the bottom all the way to the top are beautiful. My family and I visited Prospect Mountain on Columbus Day weekend & the Autumn leaves were just so bright & colorful. The drive up was just as bright & colorful as it was at the top of the mountain. At the top of the mountain you got a 360 degree view of Lake Goerge & surrounding mountains with all of the beautiful Autumn leaves. My family & I also had a picinic lunch at the top on the picinic tables provided. For all you leaf peepers out there, I definitely recommend Prospect Mountain, you wouldn't be disappointed,it's just such beautiful, relaxing, theraputic place to visit. The $10 car ride is well worth it, money well spent. My family & I are definitely going to visit Prospect Mountain next time we are in Lake Goerge!

Stunning View

By Elb606 |

The $10 charge to drive up may be a bit steep, but the views of fall foliage surrounded by Lake George are a must see.

2nd Stop is the Best!

By perilsofme |

Normally it cost $10.00 to go up Prospect Mountain. We were lucky as they are not currently charging the fee. That might be due to the fact that it is off season, Covid 19, or because the parking lot at the top is currently closed. Anyway we drove up the mountain, and the first stop was very nice. Unfortunately there are no signs to tell you what you are seeing. The second stop was pretty great as you could see the whole village of Lake George. I really enjoyed that. The third stop, you really couldn't see anything due to the trees in front of the area. I understand that there is one final stop, which is at the top, but that was closed. I am glad that I did this, but am very glad that I didn't have to pay. It would not have been worth it.

Nice Excursion

By Eugene M |

To access the mountain there is a flat $10 USD per carload fee. While driving up the mountain there are three (3) scenic lookouts. Once at the top, you park and a shuttle proceeds further up where you can see more scenic views.

Challenging Hike

By Dawn M |

Challenging hike to the top through the woods. The view was worth it! About an hour to get to the top from Smith St.

Great views

By jcm72002 |

Sad that the shuttles aren’t in operation. A knee injury prevented me from going up to the summit. Beautiful views, though!

Spectacular!

By Mary U |

Inportant: Make sure you take the highway up the mountain, NOT Siri’s route through what looked like big drainage pipes! The view from the very top lookout area was great. I took some aerial shots as there were no signs or web notices prohibiting drones, and ample space to takeoff and land away from people. Looks like a great hiking area and there were areas where you could picnic. Definitely worth the $10!

Scenic Mountain view

By SAROJA R |

The prospect mountain is a beautiful drive but offers a decent view at the top. For the last round uphill, you can take the free jitney to the top of the mountain. Full of trees but a great view of the town.

Be sure to go

By Marion C |

Beautiful views on a clear day. Went to all the stops for pictures. Also there are many picnic tables and grills. Problem is that they do not allow parking at the summit or where the picnic tables are. There are many parking spots even small parking areas but signs all over no parking. If you want to get to the top for a view you have to park below and walk up. This is not good for people with a medical condition or elderly.

Nice Morning Adventure

By Vonnie J |

For a $10 fee per vehicle, you can drive to Prospect Mountain. There are three scenic overlooks on the way up. From the parking lot, we took the shuttle bus to the summit. The driver gives a short narration during the ride up. Once at the top you can roam as you please. There is a porta potty at the top. Lovely views.

admission fee + better views elsewhere = skip it

By Alicia A |

I don't get what all the excitement is about. I guess if you are limited in your mobility this may be a great option, but if you're up for a hike, this is not the place to go. First of all, there's a charge to even go up the mountain. When you get there, it's often crowded so parking and traffic will likely be an issue. The views are beautiful but no more beautiful than anywhere else. If you are somewhat athletic, skip this one and go hike Pilot Knob or Shelving Rock falls.... so much nicer.

Good location but not perfect view

By tenniswo |

It was Wed morning with bright sunshine. Very few people. Great environment but trees blocked views on several view stops. It was a worth going stop if you have 1-2 hours at lake george.

Great drive on a very clear day

By Rosemary J |

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Prospect mountain. The weather played ball and so visibility was 100 miles. It was an easy drive with several pull offs each with wonderful views of Lake George and the surrounding mountains. We drove as far as is allowed and then caught the shuttle to the summit. A nice way to spend an hour or so in Lake George.

Amazing view of Lake George from the top

By AbhishekKalra |

The best place to have a panoramic view of the lake george region. The summit can be visited by a trail which starts from the lake george village and can also be driven up via a car(although it opens at 10 AM and ones needs to pay 10 Dollars).

Its a must do as it offers breathtaking view of the valley.

Beautiful Lake George view from up

By bea2504 |

Did this trail today. Beautiful autumn colors. The trail was definitely a nice one, not too difficult, very enjoyable. Took us about an hour and 15mins to get to the top. Nice view of part of Lake George from the top. Warmly recommended. For those that do not plan to hike - can get to the top by car.

Great views of Lake George

By Sarsprdoc |

Free this year so drove up to parking lot. Has 3 nice turn outs with views before the top. Large parking lot near summit. No shuttle this year with covid but easy walk up road for our 3 and 5 year old grandkids. Go now while leaves changing!

beautiful view but zero explanation as to what we were looking at from atop the mountain. no signage no personell

By cmonover |

there was a charge per vehicle to drive up the mountain but nobody was around to show us around and describe what areas we were looking at..not even a simple sign of location or N S E W

NO VIEWS!! ONLY TREE TOPS!

By mesick463 |

I am very disappointed, many years ago when I was up on top of the mountain the parking areas and so on you had beautiful views. Now you see tops of trees. The park has not trimmed the trees, and you see nothing but trees tops. Total waste of time and a waste of money. I would not recommend Prospect Mountain. Also, if you are a vet, they do not except out of state veterans for the discount.

Beautiful views of Lake George area

By MangoLove |

You enter the highway off of Lake George Village, and there are three lookouts as you go up the mountain. There is a $10 per car charge to enter the highway, so take some cash. The best thing to do is to drive up to the top first, where there are some great views, and there are also picnic areas to eat at. You do have to take out all the trash you bring with you. When you get to the top parking lot, there is a tour bus that drives the rest of the way to the top (goes every 8 minutes), or you can hike up/down the trail (about 0.5 mile). The views are fantastic, and you can also see remnants of the last cable car which was built to go to the top. The old establishments on top of Prospect Mountain are no longer there. Then drive down to each of the lookouts, and you get a different perspective on the region. Worth an afternoon in the Adirondacks!

Best views in 100 miles!

By Patricia C |

We drove up the mountain to the 'top' parking lot and walked to the summit. There is normally a trolly but it is closed for construction. It would be an easy walk for anyone though. It's an amazingly peaceful spot despite the summit being currently under construction. We stopped at every parking area to take pictures but really the best view is from the top. Worth the drive for sure!

Beautiful ride

By Cathleen L |

Take the time and pay the $ to ride / drive to too! Overlooking the entire Lake George and the village! Road is a bit twisty and steep but worth drive to the top of mountain.

Great views

By Wanderer99350 |

Our first time up the mountain. Scenery was great despite some people acting like fools and clogging up the viewing areas for extended times. Would have given it 5 stars except the shuttle to the top is not totally handicap friendly. I would complain to the state but in typical fashion they do not respond when you e mail them bringing something to their attention. Despite this issue it is a great place to visit and I would recommend it to anyone that asks.

Well worth the time and cost

By ttaxe6 |

Views from the overlooks and summit are well worth it! Take a leisurely drive up the mountain, then walk the short trail to the top - (although shuttle is available). Views on a clear day are spectacular.

Breathtaking

By Jereamy R |

We drove to the top of the mountain (well almost to the top) and hiked a small trail to the peak. There are 3 scenic overlooks, to are very good while one is not worth your time. There is plenty of space to take pictures, picnic, relax, etc. at the peak. FYI, there is a Porto potty at the peak as well. Its a must-do on your lake George vacation.

Fantastic Views

By oconnor_jim77 |

Even when it’s a little cloudy this is a nice activity! Tame compared to some mountain drives, no close to the edge turn backs. Beautiful views of Lake George. Take a picnic lunch to the upper parking lot.

Prospect Mt

By Heather Z |

Prospect Mt is always a must stop whenever visiting Lake George. Simply beautiful...the 3 stops on the ride up offer differant vantage points of the lake. The shuttle bus to the summit is currently not running which makes entry free...short hike to top.

good views of lake and area

By capt_nutso |

$10 to go up the road, several scenic stops along the way. Confusing at the top as you can't park at the very top, but there's a road there. Also, a steep trail to walk up from the parking lot. Still, great views.

Vews of lake George

By OHF |

Drive up the mountain by three viewing areas with off-road parking. Views could be spectacular, but the brush needs to be cut that is obscuring your view. We were told @ the toll gate that if we felt adventurous, we could drive to the top, but could not get out of the car (thunderstorm threat and there is no place to really park a car on the top) Frankly, my wife and I didn't think it was worth the $10.00 fee to drive up.

Grear Views and hikes

By Cristina8104 |

Awesome place to go and hike you also can get in shuttle to get there. Amazing place to enjoy the view form Lake George

fun but just ok

By ajknight |

at the gate I handed the lady my $10.00 bill and she kindly asked if anyone in the car was over 62. I had my 80 YO mother with me so we were free. This was a bonus. I think for $10 I would be disappointed.
we are use to climbing small Mountains in old forge/ inlet with more of a wow factor. Many of the outlooks has poplar trees in the way . Don't get me wrong it was pretty if you are not use to mountain views. The tram came right away. It was nationals weekend and there were cars everywhere, so the driver told us how to use back roads. We walked back to the car and it was an easy walk. Bottom line... If you are a mountain climber this is not very exciting on top. If you have never been on top of a mnt its great

Love this hike!!

By CarrieP |

We hiked the 1.4 miles up and 1.4 miles down and loved it! It’s a challenging hike both ways, but well worth the views at the top of the mountain. If you’re not used to climbing rocks/elevation, just take frequent breaks and enjoy the views. Bring water and dress in layers. There is a water fill up at the top of the mountain. The trail is well marked with red marks, so keep an eye out for them along the way. Enjoy!!

Prospect Mountain Hike

By mpercarp |

Took a hike from the bottom in Lake George Village to the peak. It's about 4 miles round trip. You definitely get a work out but the views are great when you get to the top. You don't have to be a hard core hiker to do it.

Nice drive up the mountain with views of Lake George Village

By Travelgirl77710 |

We did not hike up the mountain because we were a mixed age group. We paid $10 for our carload (7 people) to drive the mountain. There are scenic views you can stop to take pictures of. You cannot access the peak unless you hike from the one parking lot. While the walk is short, it is very steep, which does not allow for everyone to do. You can drop to the summit, but there was no parking, so it was pretty worthless because you cannot see the summit for view from the roadway.

Interesting

By Gillian M |

Stopped here spur-of-the-moment. There was a thunderstorm in the morning however there was a clear view of at least 100 miles. The second lookout point was my favorite. A beautiful view of the village and the lake from high.

Great views

By Mi_2_Jo_2 |

The drive up isn’t much, and the best views are at the second overlook and the top.

$10 per car is a bit steep for this.

Take a drive!

By Cat |

There is usually a nominal car fee to drive up. There are hiking trails. A number of overlooks allow you to see different vistas. The day we visited, the trolley to the very top was not running but the attendant was allowing appropriately marked handicapped vehicles to drive up where the trolley normal goes. Your option is to walk up the road or take the steeper path. The path/trail is much shorter but requires you to be in relatively good shape. Good shoes, sneakers or hiking boots are recommended. The path is blacktopped but is not pristine. Flat sandals or flip flops not recommended. The views are wonderful and there are some ruins and places to picnic. A great view of Lake George is to be found.

A Fun Car Ride

By Reasonable50 |

For $10 you drive up a well maintained road to a large parking area at the top. There are a couple of areas you can stop and take in the view on the way up. Then a short 10 minute hike to the summit is worth the effort. The summit has grills and tables. It is a shame that the road closes at 5. It can be casually done in an hour and 1/2. We arrived at 3:30 and stayed until they told us to leave. Would have stayed longer if they let us.

A Nice Afternoon

By Lisa P |

Nice drive and lookout points. Shuttle to summit was short and had a short video on the history of this peak. Very relaxing

Mountain experience

By Yukesh |

The save nature they have energy efficient transportation at top of the mountain, also we can ride through battery operated bike from the bottom of the mountain

Ok, but disappointed

By MikeinOhio |

Ok, the drive up was pretty. There were there stops before getting to the parking at the top. But to get to the very top you have to walk a good distance up a steep path or the road. My wife has bad joints and the walk up was not possible. You can drive you and go around a loop but no where to park. We were very disappointed. I felt it was not worth the $10 (car load) since we could not view from the too. It would have been nice to know that before spending the $10.

Very challenging

By EddieB |

Well, my wife Vikki and I Eddie 64 went up two days ago after the rain. Vikki was a runner and I was a Ironman triathlete in my 40’s. Now we basically walk minimum 7 miles every day. We did some challenging trails but we basically happy normal terrain Walkers. Maybe because was the first time on this one and we weren’t talking the best route climbing. Well, the indications was not that clear and a little to the right or left of the invisible best route, was the difference that made it even harder. Our conclusion rating of the trail is “hard to believe this is for the average Walker” it is a great trail, just be realistic with your expectations, be prepared! We had lot of fun. Met some great people like Lincoln and Beth who took the picture 🤗

Great view!

By dfranco52006 |

This was a nice place to see a great view of the lake. It’s $10 per car load and has three stops on the way up before the summit. Once at the top the view is great and then you can take the shuttle up or a brief up very steep hike to the top for awesome view. There is no map or guidance if you want to hike the mountain which is disappointing. We didn’t hear about this place until we took a cruise on the lake and they told us about it.

Breathtaking fall foliage

By ptcmk34 |

They have closed for the season. This was my second visit for fall foliage. It was spectacular. God willing, I intend to visit next year as well.

Great hike!

By mukeshk88 |

This is a moderate hike which took about 2 hours to get to the top. At the summit there are nice views of the nearby mountains and Lake George in the distance. You can also drive up close to the summit for $10 and walk up a short path to the top.

Beautiful views

By passporttraveler |

For 10.00 a car , you drive up the mountain and stop at 3 spots to overlook the lake. Very pretty. I should have brought a bottle of wine with some cheese to take in the views with Lol

Worth the stop!

By Jessica B |

My husband didn’t want to drive up a mountain (didn’t want to hike either) but I asked him to do it. The views were fantastic. My husband was happy I insisted on going.

While it is a NYS park they do not accept the Empire State Pass. They do however accept the every kid in a park pass that you can get for free for your fourth grader. Admission is only $10 per car but it was nice to get in for free instead.

Amazing colors on the ride up

By dwagenb268 |

We went up the 5.5 mile drive on Columbus day weekend. We expected the view at the top to be good but were amazed the brightness and mix of color on the trees and bushes on the way up. There are two pull-off vistas that were very good on the way up. The parking lot at the top had plenty of parking and restrooms. The final way to the summit is either by a free shuttle bus or by a walk they estimate to be about 155 feet up. Unless you have difficulty walking such as bad knees or hips, I would recommend the hike. The views from the top are spectacular. The summit is broad enough to get good views without getting to close to the edge. I used to have a bad fear of heights and still do to some extent, but I was comfortable the total time.

Great Views

By landma1976 |

While in Lake George we drove up Prospect Mountain. There are 3 areas along the way where you can pull into a parking area to admire the view. When you reach the top you can either choose to ride in a van the rest of the way or take the hiking trail. We opted for the van. The views from the top of the mountain were gorgeous and it must be even prettier during the fall foliage season. We decided to take the trail back down to the parking area and even though it was a short walk, it was extremely steep so I wouldn't recommend it if you are elderly or have small children.

rode to to top on motorcycle

By Laura B |

We rode to the top on our motorcycle so much to see the views were spectacular from every stop along the way just and amazing view

worth the trip

By scottaS7846FO |

nice place to hike and soak in the views. highly recommend taking the trip. word of caution, do not put "mount prospect" into your gps, it will take you to some crazy off the beaten path backwoods road. you need to put in veterans highway.

Beautiful View

By ks0003 |

First time driving up the mountain. The Summit was closed at this time, due to construction. But the views at the checkpoints were amazing. Well worth the drive.

Visited the area for a Birthday Trip

By Barbara Z |

The views from the roadways and summit are absolutely gorgeous and it wasn't a nice day! It is very nice that you can drive almost all the way up and a shuttle bus will take you to the top (or you can walk a paved but very steep incline). This makes the area accessible for all.

Beautiful views

By ELIZABETHW150 |

We drove up the mountain and stopped at all the viewing sites. Unfortunately, the shuttle to get to the top of the mountain was not running, so we didn't get to see the full view.

Nice drive and gorgeous view

By Meredith H |

Drive up has a few lookouts that are great for pictures. Shuttle to the top is great, with a little educational video to boot. The views were awesome, even though the day was overcast. Definitely worth the visit.

return visit

By Laurel L |

We have driven up this mountain about 5 years ago and the views were beautiful! Unfortunately since then, the trees have grown taller, blocking most of the views. We were very disappointed.

Beautiful view

By TaraHappyHeart |

This was a great view of Lake George. Nice that you can bring a picnic with you and enjoy the cool breeze and the scenery

Not my favorite walk

By Ceetje01 |

Took the footpath to Prospect Mountain with our kids. I didn't think it was a very nice walk: really climbing, climbing and climbing all the time, over stones, rocks and slippery parts here and there. There was no end to it. Fifteen minutes before the top, a long milk snake crawled close to me. And me and snakes don't get along well, I find them really scary. That is nature, but I no longer walked very relaxed. Once you reach the top, you still have to climb a bit to the top. You can't see anything from the parking lot. At the very top the view was okay, but I didn't think it was very spectacular. My husband then went to get the car so that we didn't have to walk back down that path. What was very bad: at the beginning of the trail there is a book 'register here'. The book was full, you couldn't put anything more in it. The last registrations were on July 31st and we were there on August 10th! So that makes no sense.

Great Views And History

By Mark G |

Sitting at 2,030 feet Prospect Mountain gives you fantastic views of Lake George, the Adirondacks and into the mountains of Vermont. It costs $10 to drive and there are 3 areas to pull over on the way to a large parking lot, where a shuttle will take you to the top.The shuttle runs every 15 minutes and there are bathrooms at both locations as well as picnic areas. The Prospect House Hotel was located on top and the world's largest cable railroad was built in 1895 for $120,000 to access it. The hotel burned down twice and the railroad ceased operations, but remnants of the railroad remain. The entrance is easy to miss and is located across the street from the Lake George Chamber Of Commence/visitors center.

A great day out

By Susan D |

Had a great morning visiting Prospect Mountain. Enjoyed the walk to the top from the car park and the views that made it all worth the effort.

Excellent view of Lake George

By buendiaproductions |

This place has great vistas of the lake. We would highly recommend coming here! We took great pics here and we made great memories.

must see when at lake george

By ANNMARIE A |

quick stop here and it was well worth it. the views of the lake were fabulous. the shuttle bus to the top of the mountain was quick and informative

The view is SO worth it

By Mike C |

Only takes an hour or so of your time, the drive up Prospect Mountain on a clear day was great. Three road side cut outs to enjoy the view on the way to the top offer excellent views with those quarter-operated binoculars. At the top, there is plenty of parking, and then a short but steep hike to the peak. The day we were there, we could see Pico Mountain in Vermont it was so clear.

Slightly challenging and beautiful foliage

By Sharon M |

We walked the entire way on Prospect foot trail all the way to the summit. Because it had rained the past couple days and the floor of the forest was damp, the leaves were slippery and you had to be really careful when stepping over, around, on rocks and roots of trees. The trail starts at about 300 ft altitude and goes to about 2000 ft. It took us about 2 hours to walk up with some sort rests (about 5 minutes here and there)— we are middle aged.
I would say it’s an intermediate trail. It’s def not Machu Picchu , but was a beautiful and slightly challenging walk.
We opted not to go down the same way. It was steel and we were afraid of slipping. We walked along the road for about an hour until we came to another lower point of entry and descended more there.

Nice mountain drive with great viewpoints

By Geoff S. |

This is a must-do introduction to the geography of the Lake George region. Easily accessed from the town of Lake George, its a 6 mile drive through beautiful tree covered hills, with the highlight of a short walk up to the summit for 360 degree views.

Beautiful view

By lsp1251 |

Definitely worth going to see the spectacular views! You could take a picnic with you since they have tables available and there is rest rooms for public use. We did do a little hiking but it was steep at places for us “young 60 yr old gals”

Great workout and beautiful sights!!

By m0mma0f4 |

To start off by reading the reviews I was thinking this was a pretty easy hike with family. I'm not an avid steep hiker but this was pretty steep especially for younger children with lots of large boulders. We did take a few breaks to relax as it was a very hot day. Make sure you have plenty of water and good hiking shoes as the trail is about 1.5 miles just up to the top. We didn't go back down. The husband picked the kids and myself up at the top. We definitely weren't prepared for what we challenged. All in all at the top it was beautiful. Great picture opportunities and a picnic area with bathrooms and containers with water which was nice.

Wow just wow

By Arthur C |

Picturesque beutiful drove up stopped at all look out points and each one as beautiful as the next it is 10$ per car we really enjoyed when you get to the last lot there is a bus to take you to the peak bring a lunch and spend some time up there and bring a camera just a beutiful sight

Gets Better Every Time!

By Scott M |

This is a great way to enjoy a couple of hours. The view is amazing as is the history.
Bring a lunch and eat it at the top. You won't be disappointed.

Worth the entrance fee

By ngp50 |

The visit to Prospect Mountain is an enjoyable experience for anyone, but particularly for those who can't hike miles of trails. In no more than an hour, visitors can take in wonderful vistas. The precipice also has a wonderful picnic area for those who want to savor the experience.

Great views!

By Andrea0326 |

We drove up Prospect mountain and stopped at each landing. It was truly an amazing experience to be that high up! It was breathtaking!

No views

By Dave M |

NO views! Every thing blocked by trees! Don’t waste your money until the leaves are gone on the late fall! Views from the onsite binoculars are blocked by trees. Thanks APA.

free for now to drive

By Kristin |

we drove up Veterans memorial highway, (this is still free in 2022 as the shuttle is not running. ) Pretty views at the 3 scenic overlooks and the parking lot at the top!
Steepish paved 10 minute hike from lot to summit. Nice picnic areas also.

Beautiful as always!

By kdecker01 |

I have been here twice and both times were spectacular. Views even with the humidity were amazing. I like to drive up and the walk to the summit. Because of the kids, this is the best option since the kids would have a tough time hiking from the base.

A million dollar view.

By Kathy H |

I loved the lookout stops on the mountain. We met some other motorcyclists and had a good time going up as well as coming back down, just enough twisties.

Beautiful views but it’s a hike

By Erin R |

Gorgeous views but what a hike all up hill beware it seems short but because of the incline it takes a bit:) Also it’s all rock:/ be careful and I would not recommend when it’s rained.

Great Views

By Connector191668 |

Prospect Mountain is worth a visit. It was $10 a car. It is about a 5 mile drive to near the summit. You can walk to the summit or take the shuttle. The summit path is black topped and somewhat steep. You should do the walk! The are four additional overlooks as you drive up. The views vary and are different aspects of Lake George and the Adirondaks. While the ads say well marked trails....the summitvwalk is, I tried a few trails but didn't know where they ended or they faded off. Great views at thevlookouts, none the less.

Really nice

By JSlep |

Views of lake George. We drove up and then hiked around the peak. The little bus is unnecessary unless you have a disability. Bathrooms at the top, good for about an hour or so. Make use of the turnoffs on the way up for different views of LG.

Just make sure its a clear day

By Diverpatrick28 |

There was no charge to go up the mountain but we made the mistake of going when it was cloudy so we couldn't see anything. Also the very top was closed due to construction .

Spectacular !!!

By C & R |

A gem in the town. Found this place by accident and what a beautiful accident. The view from the top is amazing. The best scenario for photographer that want to capture the fall foliage or an excellent choice for those that want to have a pre-weeding shoot.

Tips for future visitors

*Entrance fee is $10 per car
*Park close at 5pm
*There are 3 spot that you park your car to take pictures
*Good for a picnic
*Last parking spot is for those that want to experience the hike
*There is a shuttle that drive visitors to the summit.
*Wear comfortable shoes and a good coat - It's COLD up there.

On Other NOTES: The road is only one narrow lane per via, please watch your speed. there is no need to speed up. Have in mind that visitors can stop in the middle of the road to take pictures. This park is to relax and enjoy the view not to have a car race to see who gets first to the top.

Beautiful view

By Debbie T |

Nice drive, beautiful views. My only complaint was that several of the pull offs had large bushes blocking the views which could be tree trimmed back. Staff was helpful and friendly.

Great view for free

By ken j |

We started out our Lake George trip here. It was close and free. Great view, be sure to see both levels of it. My grandkids liked this a lot.

Worth the visit

By Richard S |

We have been coming to Lake George since 1955... Never came up the mountain! Oh it is worth the time to see from the top.

Spectacular views

By Julieroadtrip |

We took the easy way up and drove to the almost top. From the highest parking lot you take a bus or trail to the very top. $10/car to drive. Absolutely worth it for the views. Our favorite pull-off was the “Lake George” parking lot, the second one.

Spectacular views

By Sonny L |

A wonderful morning or afternoon trip. Views are great. Walking around is a must do. I would recommend going to a lo al deli and taki g a picnic up to the top. There are ampke picnic tables in the shade.

Consider hiking instead of driving!

By Jennifer K |

My husband and I debated whether to drive or hike… we’re late 50s/early 60s, in decent shape but not super athletic, and anyhow we decided to give the hike a go! We were so glad we did. It was definitely very challenging, but we took our time and round trip (including about 45 minutes at the summit) was about 4 hours. Some suggestions: DEFINITELY use hiking sticks - we found some at the base of the trail left by helpful hikers, even more helpful on the way down; good sneakers or hiking boots are a must; keep your eyes on the trail markers (which start to appear after the riverbed part of the trail stops); do not go if it’s raining or wet - there are many rocks you have to step on or over and can be slippery; take your time and enjoy each step! The uphill challenge is cardio - we took many rests, the downhill challenge is not falling - we took our time and used our sticks. The view and whole experience was wonderful!!

Great views

By 1pt21gigawats |

You can never go wrong with a trip up the mountain! Stop at every stop and walk to the top! Its amazing!

Beautiful views without the work of the hike

As part of New York State’s Golden Park Program, if you have NYS ID and are over 62 you can get in free Monday to Friday (excluding holidays) instead of paying $10 per car.

The views are beautiful without the work of hours of hiking. From parking lot to summit is about a ten minute hike. The path near the bathrooms is NOT the summit but just a path to a picnic area. You cannot park at the summit, signs all over saying no park in yet still saw a few cars parked near the area for handicapped.

Interesting history at the summit regarding the cable incline railway.

Park closes pretty early at 5:30pm.

Some lookouts were disappointing as too much brush was blocking the view.

Rainy day on the mountain

By Bill T |

We paid our $10 fee and headed up the mountain road. We had some nice views along the way but by the time we got to the top it was raining and there was no view at all. I'm sure it's beautiful on a clear day.

Beautiful View

By Mauricio B |

Well worth going to the top of Prospect Mountain to see the view of Lake George. Pack a lunch and take in the view

What a climb!!

By Katrinka513 |

We climbed up Prospect Mountain. It was rated a moderate climb but it's more like a Hard climb! It's very rocky, big huge rocks & some mid size rocks & its very steep at points. It takes quite a while & you think you won't make it! Go early before it gets too hot! Bring water! Expect it to be hard. The views from the very top are GREAT! There are picnic areas up there with tables & shelters. You can drive up the road up most of the way & then take the tram up the rest of the way but if you want a work out....hike it!

Free due to coronavirus!

By Amy C |

We enjoyed a drive up Prospect Mountain. Due to coronavirus, there was no fee. The views were lovely. Unfortunately the sun wasn't out so it didn't photograph well. If love to come back next autumn and hope for a sunny day. There are pulloff parking areas to help with sight-seeing. Unfortunately we didn't have time do the foot path at the last parking lot.

Amazing

Amazing views and a wonderful day trip! Great spot to bring your lunch and hang out overlooking! Beautiful birds and other such animals as well

Great for elders

By Ewa K |

Not. A great view as I hoped since the Pinnacle Hike is awesome
However for older people the hike I Easy since they have shuttle to the top if you can not go up hill. $10 fee

Incredible views!

By Renee |

Gorgeous views, but unfortunately the very top is under construction. Easy to access! The remaining 4 lots did provide really beautiful spots for photos, especially the panoramic vista!

Gorgeous Views

By uvarobin1 |

Navigated to the top utilizing the the Veterans Highway Memorial Avenue car route. There are three stops up the mountain and each are both breathtaking. We were able to bring our dogs though we visited towards the end of the season. Worth the $10 fee

Nice views

By MissRV |

This is a drive up the mountain with nice views of lake George. You can picnic at the top. they do charge per car.

A beautiful View

By Francine S |

my friend and I did this in the am before it got too hot. 10$ a carload with 3 stops on way up, then you take free shuttle to top. it runs often and although it was a beautiful view there isnt really much else to see up there.

Cannot recommend

By rsmull2024 |

The views from the lower overlook points were unremarkable due to growth of trees and underbrush. The peak overlook is only accessible from a lower parking area and a difficult lengthy walk if you have mobility issues. Shuttle is mentioned on their webpage was not operating during our visit. Again, the view from the peak was unremarkable.

Great time

By Guide565050 |

Just visited with family and friends. A nice afternoon. 1 1-2 hrs exploring a little. Spectacular views.

Beautiful Views

By SR621 |

This was a nice easy drive to catch the beautiful views of the lake in a different perspective. It costs $10 per car but no one was at the gate to collect money when we went on a Thursday. We made our stops along the way for photo opportunities. We also went to the very top parking lot. We highly recommend taking the road (which is closed off to cars) to walk up to the summit vs the steep trail depending on your group’s ability.

Nice hike

By Summer L |

We hiked this on a humid/hot day, and should have started earlier... Now that I got our mistake out of the way, it was a nice challenge of a hike. I read previous reviews and got mixed info. This hike is maybe moderate, but should not be classified as hard. Yes it is a continuous climb, but rest if you need to, there are plenty of nice large rocks to rest. We hiked up in about 75 mins and that was with resting due to heat. I did not see any area that was dangerous but It did have some steady inclines with hardly any plateaus. It was good exercise and we cheated and had my husband pick us up at the summit ($10 to drive car up). People were grilling up there in picnic area , great idea! I will hike this again when we return to Lake George.

Tougher Than We Thought

By patsjag28 |

We've hiked several of the 46 Peaks of the Adirondacks and Prospect Mountain although not a peak, was more difficult than we thought it would be. Not to say that you shouldn't try it, but there were a awful lot of people huffing and puffing their way up the mountain. It seemed like there were very few leveled off areas and more steep inclines which required climbing on rocks as you made your way up a creek bed.
In any event, the day was perfect for a climb, there was plenty of shade along the path and we made it up in about 1 1/2 hrs and down in about an hour. The route is clearly marked with red markers and easy to follow. At the top there are plenty of places for pictures of Lake George and surrounding mountains.
Prospect is definitely worth the time and effort with beautiful vistas as your reward.

Greta Bike Ride

By 279markc279 |

We rode our bikes to the top of the mountain. Great view! Six miles total with 3 pull offs to view the are before reaching the summit. Would recommend.

A few hours on the mountain

By Julian P |

We stopped at the 3 overlook areas nice views a little hazy the day went drove up to the parking area and hiked up to the top of the mountain not bad view or hike some signage talking the history

Nice Short Trip

By ayla912 |

There is a cost-per-car to access the roadway and mountain top, but I felt it was worth for the amazing views! There are several places to pull off and take the gorgeousness of Lake George. You can see for miles and miles and miles. There is a small picnic area at the top and the remains of a cog railway. I nice side little side trip. An hour or so is all you need here.

The fresh air and breath taking views will hypnotize you.

By Discover Myself |

We drove up the prospect mountain and did small treks at the mountain during fall foliage. Its a wonderful experience. Next time I am at Lake George - I will trek up the Prospect Mountain - it will be a wonderful experience. I recommend everybody who is fit to do the trek/hike.

Great scenic drive

By moodblu |

One of our drives on our recent New England tour was Prospect Mountain, near Lake George in New York. Because of time restraints we were only able to go partway up the mountain, I’m sure the views at the top would be stunning. That being said, the viewpoints we did go to were beautiful. We enjoyed the views of the lake below, the mountains all around, and the beautiful and colorful fall foliage. The weather was very nice, mild temperature with a breeze (early October). Although a winding mountain road, it seemed in quite good repair. We were glad to have gone there.

Wonderful view

By Sharon P |

The view was amazing and it felt so peaceful. Totally recommend this place to everyone visiting lake george

Vegetation

By Bob19512014 |

We paid the $10 for the right to drive to the top. Do not have a problem with that. Two of the three stops to park and view the lake have vegetation so high that the views are limited. If you go, just stop at #2.

Too many bugs, and blocked views

By Navigator55339083450 |

granted it was cloudy so views were limited anyway, But views were blocked by growing trees, the gnats were terrible! came home with itchy welts- two days later - still itching. Save yourself $10

View of Lake George from higher up

By Decocrafts |

Maby different parking areas for different views. They did close out the top part of the mountain though. No fee to get in but you have to read the notice about the mask and distancing rules.

A drive well worth it

By Tammy S |

My mom and I drove up the mountain and did a small hike to the summit. Once again teh views and the history were stunning. Still enough color to enjoy.

By Excursion28003646611 |

The view at the summit was nice but partially blocked by trees. The 3 lookout were poor due to obstructions from trees and shrubs . If you come, your best bet is the summit for a good view.

Beautiful views of Lake George

By Sue B |

My husband and I enjoyed our visit to Prospect Mountain. After paying $10 per car entrance fee, we drove up the mountain, stopping at each stop along the way to check out the view. When we got to the parking area, you can either hike or ride a shuttle to the very top. We took the shuttle because I had hurt my foot and wasn't able to walk...we like to hike normally. We heard a recorded message while watching a video explaining some of the history of the mountain... very interesting. Wish we brought our cooler, because there are places to have a picnic, including a gazebo. There were also signs that shared interesting facts, which would be great if you hiked up. This trip is great for families, seniors as well as couples.

Fall Colors

By Char |

Beautiful view of all the colors in the area. We drove up and took the bus to the summit. Theres a "trail" up the side but thats kinda steep and the rain made it messy.

Beautiful

By Coastal9599 |

This is an incredible place to visit. You must go all the way to the top, you can see for miles and miles. So beautiful to see Lake George and all the surroundings mountains.

A nice convenient hike and view

By Mark W |

Seems to be the only hike walkable from the Lake George village. The hike itself isn't too dynamic. A consistently relatively steep straight shot up the mountain. Parts are like a mini-boulder field, so not the most comfortable hike, but nothing too challenging. Great view from the top. Took us about 3 hours total.

Nice views

By ginam12003 |

This was worth the 10 bucks . Drive up and check it out . Note no parking at the summit - you can walk up but it is steep and a bit of a walk .

Beautiful views of the area.

By CA S |

We drove up the mountain after paying the $10 fee. Stopped at the pull over areas to take in the views. At the top parking lot we hiked the steep trail up to the top. It was a great time of year to be there.

The View is definitely worth the drive up!

By Douglas B |

It doesn't get a lot of attention but people should definitely take a drive up Prospect Mountain auto road at least one. There are several scenic overlooks to pull over at and take pictures. Once you get to the top parking lot there are bathrooms as well. From the top parking lot you can either hike a pretty steep trail up to the summit or wait for the shuttle bus that constantly runs back and forth between the parking lot and the summit. We took the bus up and then walked the trail back down. Great views up at the summit plus the remains of a cable car system that used to run from the top of the mountain down to Lake George Village. Definitely recommended.

Worth the small price

By Ebeauchea |

This costs $10 first of all. You drive a few miles up the mountain and there’s a few stops you make a long the way to view scenery. In July, when we went the second stop was the best, with brush being in the way on the others. Once you reach the top, there’s a large parking lot. Look for the tram bus which will take you further up the mountain. You can get off the bus at the top, and should. The view is amazing and the bus will be back shortly if you get bored. It’s a good idea to have sneakers on to climb the rocks. After that, you’ll drive all the way back down. Take it easy on the brakes and use your vehicles lower gears 4, 3, 2, or L. My 7 yr Old daughter enjoyed it greatly.

Attacked by Flies or Gnats

By JayDee |

I visited the mountain today and enjoyed the vistas along the way to the summit. Unfortunately, the lot where you catch the shuttle was filled with flies/gnats. I had to wait in my car (not without some of them making their way into my car) for the shuttle bus because there were so many of them. Little did I know that the summit would have even MORE!!! These insects made it unbearable to enjoy the views--I mean I've never seen or experienced anything quite like this. There were millions of them!!

Anyway, despite these annoying insects, I did enjoy my visit.

Mountain at lake george

Amazing Views!!!

By Happyish2 |

We hiked all the way to the summit, and were pleasantly surprised with all of the amazing views. Driving to the summit is an option for those that are unable to hike, but would strongly recommend hiking to the summit because it's so rewarding!

Lake George vacay

By Nmtsoi1 |

Lake George is a relaxing little town for families. Be prepared to pay $10 for access to the see the 3 levels for 100 mile view.
It was cooler up here too, we stayed maybe 1/2 hour as we did not hike the trail.

OMG what a view

By Stiegjl |

This was recommended and I am glad we drove up the mountain. The views were amazing. Once you get to the top (what we thought was the top), you could really hike to the top. We didn't.

So glad we took the trip

By Cynthia W |

The sites were breathtaking! We paid 10 for the carload and dropped at different lookout points to take pictures. Took the shuttle up to the summit which was amazing. We decided to take the trail and walked down and glad we did.

Great Views

By donaldrehner |

First it is a little hard to find Prospect Road. The drive up is about 5 miles. There are a couple vistas on the way, but the best views are from the peak. When you get to the top parking lot it’s about a fifteen minute steep hike to the top. It’s well worth it. This 70 plus couple in pretty good shape made it. Admission is free since the shuttle to the top is not operating. Hours are 10 AM to 5 PM

Beautiful Views

By Lois B |

This is a beautiful scenic ride up a mountain with views of Lake George and surrounding area. They charge per carload, and there are different places to stop along the drive to take pictures. Close to the top you park in a large parking lot, and you can either hike to the top or take a complimentary bus ride up to the top on an air conditioned or heated bus. At the top you can walk around, and then either hike or take the bus down to your car. Very beautiful and worth the admission.

Worth The Hike

By luv2trvl09NY |

We did the 3-mile round trip hike of Prospect Mountain and followed the red markers. Though the trail was steep and challenging at times, it was so worth the reward of a panoramic view of Lake George once you reach the top.

Bring hiking sticks, lots of water and bug repellant. Don't forget to sign in and out at the start of the trail and take note of the emergency number.

Hiking up Prospect Mountain

By cenzt |

Great trip. We arrived at approximately 1 pm and made our way to the entrance of the trail. The trail was short, but very steep in certain parts and contained a lot of stairs. We saw several people have to stop and rest halfway through the trail due to how steep the trail was. However, the view at the top was absolutely gorgeous and breathtaking and well worth the hike. The peak of the mountain made for an amazing photo opportunity with the water in the background. A little further down the trail, was an old cable railway, which was historically significant to the area. Along the drive back down, was a stop that provided for another great photo opportunity of the area.

Tip: I recommend spending an hour here if you truly want to see everything.

beautiful views

By rickyrandy |

Amazing views of the lake and surrounding areas. Drive to different lookout points and then take a shuttle to the top. Well worth the money. better than advertised

Best $10 ever spent

By Dan |

To get to Prospect Mountain you have to take a one way in, one way out till road to the summit. This will cost you $10 but it is absolutely worth it. Once you make your way up the mountain there are 3 stops you can pull over to observe the view. Photo opportunities behind every turn. Once you reach the summit a bus shuttle transports toy to the peak of Prospect Mt where you can take in a view of 100 plus miles weather permitting. There are trails throughout if you don’t feel like taking the shuttle back down to your cars. This attraction is a must see if you are in the Lake George area!

Fantastic views

By P F B |

What fantastic views! There is a $10 per car cost to drive to the top. There are three overlooks before reaching the final parking lot at the top. At the final parking lot, there are rest rooms, water, and picnic tables. There is a shuttle (at least on weekends) to take you to the final summit, where there are more picnic tables. Or you can take about a 4 minute walk up a trail to the final summit. Cars with handicap registrations are permitted to drive to the top. Once at the top, there are fantastic views all around. Well worth the visit.

A Must-Do in Lake George

By Jamie W |

We our 12 and 14 year old kids to the Summit on July 15. Great time had by all. Amazing views of Lake George. The “Panorama” viewing spot gives a particularly good view so don’t skip it or any of the other 4 stops along the way. I thought the view from “Panorama” was even better than at the top. You can drive almost all the way up to the summit and then park. From there you can either hike up the rest of the way or take a shuttle bus that runs to and from the summit every 7 minutes except between 1:30-2:30 during which there is a break for lunch. If you ride a motorcycle you can drive all the way to the top yourself. There are bathroom facilities at the point where you meet the shuttle to ride to the top, but there are no sinks and no running water. The bathrooms are compost stalls ( 👍🏻 for the Earth 🌏) with Purell dispensers. We saw a few people bring a picnic lunch up with them, which is not a bad idea.

BEAUTIFUL views

By Mary A |

Worth the fee for the drive up. The views are beautiful especially nice when the foliage is peak. Take the tram from the parking lot to the top. Then, after exploring and photographing, walk down the fairly steep path through the woods. Great place to picnic in the summer.

Great views

By S7777P |

There are a number of scenic overlooks on the way up. Great views. They offer a shuttle, but I would recommend the short walk to the summit. This is a short drive from town.

Incredible view

By Holly Hahne |

We drove up on a crisp clear day and we were rewarded with the most beautiful view of the lake, the village and the mountains as far as Vermont! I suggest anyone who is visiting the Lake George and surrounding area take this ride up Prospect Mountain or you can also hike up.

Beautiful views

By Barbara K |

The view from the mountain is spectacular. We visited on a very clear and sunny afternoon. Once we got to the last stop and took the free bus to the very top, we were amazed on just how much you could see. Definitely go on a clear day and bring a picnic lunch to enjoy while there.

Well worth a drive up to see the views

By Janet H |

I'd recommend the drive up to see the views to anyone, even if you are short on time. It doesn't take long and the views from the first two pull off points and the top are fabulous. The last (third) pull point doesn't give a great vantage point because of the trees in leaf.

Great Views

By Alpha Dad |

There are numerous lookouts that really show the beauty of the lake and surrounding mountains. Great photo opportunities for your family. Downtown is nice but this shows why Lake George is so special. There is a $10 fee to drive up the mountain which is completely worth it, plus it’s going to a good cause.

By Navigate16636618450 |

The day was very humid so we decided to take a ride up Prospect Mountain. It was $10 for this trip and the woman at the gate wasn't sure it would be a great view because of the mist. We went anyway. The first two overlooks were okay. They would've been better if we could jump up on the high rocks used as barriers. The third overlook was so overgrown we couldn't see anything except that. On we went to the summit. As we drove around a one lane curve we saw a view! Unfortunately there was only handicap parking! There were a lot of picnic tables a distance from the lot. I guess they figured the handicapped people would have no trouble walking through the roughage to get to them. All in all, it was a wasted $10 and an hour of our time.

Ridiculous restrictions

By Tammy K |

The people running this mountain attraction are ridiculously overcautious. They close the road when it gets foggy or clouds roll in. We tried twice to visit the summit in the span of one week, and were stopped short both times. The first time we were going to walk to the summit on the trail at the top parking lot and a lady stopped us due to fog. Said it was too dangerous. The second visit, the road was closed at stop 3. We give up. Never coming here again. We realize there would be no view, but still wanted to reach the summit. We've hiked mountains all over the world, in way worse than a bit of fog. Seriously ridiculous.

Stunning!

By Laurie P |

On a beautiful October morning we set off at 9AM to drive up Prospect Mountain. There is currently no fee to drive up, and it is open (weather pending) until Veteran's Day.
Stop #1 is good. Stop #2 is spectacular. Stop #3 has limited views, but we stopped briefly. At the top there is a large parking lot with 2 trails from the lot. There was a very nice man we spoke with sitting in a car where the 2 paths take off to answer questions and count cars. The Sunday before 800 cars had come up. That is a financial loss of $8,000.00. Sad. The trail to the left is shorter and steeper. The road to the right is longer and easier. We took the road.
Nice views at the top...but the fog had come in so it was more limited. On the way back down the hill we again stopped at #2 to see how it had changed since we had first stopped.
Definitely a must do when you are in the area!!

Beautiful views

By djjr |

A short drive with a few stops along the way to look at beautiful views of the lake and surrounding mountains. There is a small, steep walk to the summit from the parking lot, but you can go all the way up via car if you have a Handicapped plate. Well worth the $10 charge.

Great Place to see sights

By Wearytraveler066 |

We went to Prospect Mountain for the first time in November. It was a very cold day but it was so worth the trip to the top. Absolutely amazing views!!! You can literally see mountains in New Hampshire and Vermont. The staff for the State is very knowledgeable and nice. We will go again.

We went here and drove up to as far as you can drive. There was no shuttle when we went because it was a weekday after Columbus day so we walked up the rest of the way. The walk was definitely worth it. The views of the lake and surrounding areas were unbelievable just breathtaking worth the walk up.

A nice drive

By Mrharley |

There is a $10 toll per car. The ride up is quite pleasant with several scenic pullouts. Near the top you have to park car and either hike to the summit or take the shuttle bus. The view at the summit is quite limited. Only a small portion of lake is visible. The view on clear day may be 100 miles as advertised, but all you see are mountain ridges.

Challenging great hike

By Deborah C |

Me and my family went all way to the top. We were not going to go, but ended up embracing the challenge. It took us 2hours in the way up and less than 1 hour in the way down. Lots of tricky spots with rocks and incline stiff areas. Worth!

Just enough challenging

By BeaulieuD |

We love to hike and this one is really beautiful, just enough challenging, offering spectacular views. A great way to have an overview of the whole area while getting in shape! But if you have a stroller or a wheelchair, you can reach the summit with your car and still enjoy the view!

Views are stunning! Driving up may be better option

By Klassyhk |

Hiked to the 2,030 ft summit.

PROS: stunning views of mountain horizons in NY, VT, and MA, at the summit is a picnic area, benches to sit, large boulders on which to sit/stand, & a port-a-potty available,
CON: it's like climbing Jacob's ladder. Every step goes higher & higher. It's a very steep, extremely rocky/small boulders trail up what appears to be a dry creek bed. Opportunities to twist, sprain, or break an ankle abound with every step.

Great view. Worth the visit.

By MaryLou S |

Great view. Shuttle ride to the top with stops along the way to see views of lake George. $10 charge per car .

Great View!

By kmachia87 |

This is a great hike and the view at the top is very rewarding. It's nice to have the option to drive/ride to the top, but I prefer the more adventurous route. It's a steep climb and it's easy to miss where the trails branch out. We meant to hike the shorter trail, but missed the marker and ended up hiking for MUCH longer. Well worth it in the end though. The bridge over the interstate is a bit unnerving and you have to be careful when the trail crosses the road, don't get hit! As mentioned, I like adventure so this was a great hike for me. Also, we didn't have our pooch with us, but it is a dog friendly hike.

Gorgeous views of Lake George and the surrounding mountains

By Freespirit134 |

For a bird's eye view of the lake and surrounding mountains, this is the easiest way to arrive at a mountain top. For $10 per car, drive up most of the way and take a tram/bus the final distance or take a short walk to reach the summit. Picnic tables at the summit make a lovely spot for a packed lunch. Composting toilets at the parking lot offer a comfort stop, but plan for no running water. A wonderful way to experience the Adirondacks with ease.

Steep climb with fantastic views

By Raggedy |

Beautiful scenery. We drove to the uppermost parking area and then walked to the top. The walking path from the parking lot is not long, but is very steep and contains about 50 steps at the end. After you arrive at the top, the views of Lake George and surrounding mountains are stunning!! You can also see the remains of a passenger incline/tram that was used years ago for excursions up the mountain.

The top of the mountain has restroom facilities, picnic tables, and grills. Of course you need to carry everything with you from the parking lot below. There is a road to the very top for a shuttle bus, but the shuttle bus was not running. There is limited handicapped parking at the very top but no other parking. We did walk down the road to the parking area - less steep than the pedestrian trail. The parking area also had restrooms and picnic tables.

Gives a nice view of Lake George

By Sandra O |

We went in off peak season, it was very quiet. Since we are seniors and live in NYS it was free. You drive to a certain height and park. Then a shuttle takes you up to the summit. It was very nice and will be spectacular when the leaves change. At the summit you can picnic, just be at the lookout and see where once there was a beautiful hotel that is no more. If you want from the parking lot, you can hike up to the summit on a very easy paved path. We chose to walk down to the parking lot from the summit. Lastly, on the way up or down there are carious viewpoints that you can park and look out.

Great views

By Lauren D |

It is worth the $10 entry fee. The views were great. There is some hiking and exploring you can do at the top. Little bit of history with lovely views of Lake George and the surrounding areas. There is a shuttle if you don't want to make the climb to the top. Everything was kept very clean.

Scenic!

By mo1124 |

Amazing views of multiple mountain ranges. Can be a quick trip to a few lookout spots or a longer trip with some hiking and picnicking.

Amazing views

By marcia |

The views are great. There are several places to stop along the way to the top. There’s a place to park and a small hike up the summit. We chose to drive, but you can also hike all the way to the top right from town.

Great attraction

By RBHPotsdamNY |

This was a very interesting place to visit. The view from the top is excellent. I would certainly recommend a visit to Prospect Mountain to all visitors to Lake George.

Fantastic views!

By Ccari01 |

My husband and I decided to drive most of the way.We paid $10 at the entrance. There were four spots where we parked to enjoy the views and the fall colors. There was no parking allowed in the summit. The last stop before the top was a huge parking lot with picnic areas. It was a short hike to the top-short but steep. But so worth it. The views were fantastic- the village of Lake George, unmistakable Route 87 with the fall foliage.i read that the mountains nearby were Vermont and New Hampshire. It was a feast of autumn colors at its best!

Beautiful views

By Trenegar7 |

I would recommend this for beautiful views of the lake. There is a hiking trail that begins just south of town in a neighborhood. Otherwise, you can take the auto road. Take a picnic lunch.

Nice little hike

By MsProfessorADK |

Definitely not a hike if you want to avoid people, but this quick little jaunt is a lot of fun, especially in the winter!

Beautiful view!

By Desiree F |

Nice ride - for $10/vehicle you can drive to the top parking area and then a shuttle bus takes you the rest of the way - great photo spot! Easy hike back down to parking lot - or you can hike the entire way for free! (several hours hike and I am assuming it's steep!)

Lovely way to spend the afternoon

By Sara L |

3 breathtaking stops with view of the lake and village. On the shuttle to the top you can listen to the history of the mountain. After spending sometime, we always choose to take the path and walk back to the parking lot

Great view during the fall season

By Kim |

The scenery was beautiful. They had 3 stopping points along the way up the mountain and 2 of the 3 were great viewing points. The 3rd one wasn't that great, but then you get to the top and boy was it beautiful. We took the shuttle to the summit where the view was even better. I definitely recommend checking this place out during the fall season.

Interesting

By Cheryl D |

It's $10 per car to go up the mountain, but the view is nice and the history is interesting. There is an optional bus at the top if you don't want to walk, but the walk is not very long, just steep.

Massive View, we did not hike we just took the car and went up the hill and stopped at ll views for a few min. very cheap attraction for big families.

Panoramic Views

By Amber Chung |

We drove up the mountain. There were stops along the way to the top. Once you get to the top you can walk or take the shuttle a bit further. We decided to walk back down and the trail was lovely. There were a lot of vibrant colors. I definitely suggest going in early October. The foliage was unreal. Photos do not do any justice.

The top is closed due to COVID

By hxz119 |

It was free of charge but the summit is closed (fenced off). However we’ve seen plenty people walking up to the top

Fantastic views!

By IMD |

Provided excellent views of the Lake George area, you could see for miles from the top! Worth the hike up to the very top, also

Quite the hike

By Jarch98 |

So we decided to take the trail from the village up to the summit. Most online comments about this trail said it was steep at times. Let me just say it is very steep the whole way up.
It took us 1h30 to walk to the summit and the view was amazing and after all that effort, very satisfying.
If you have time and you are in good physical shape I would recommend taking the free trail up. If not, take the car for a small fee.

Great view...no facilities!

By Joseph B |

This would be a 5 star if they had any facilities at all. There is a "comfort station" that is disgusting and unusable. The park service should be ashamed. Other than that, the views are spectacular and the roadways are well maintained. Worth the $10.00 for the views, but if you have small children, the potty will be an issue

"AWSOME WITH A CAPITAL "A" BABY"!!!!!!!

By Paul G |

Prospect Mountain/Lake George 3-tiered car park at each tier overviews; Ab-so-lute-ly AWESOME!! With a Capital "A" BABY!!!! Best during a mostly clear blue sky a few clouds dotting the atmospheric mid-atmospheric landscape and of course the SUN is "UP" and "OUT" for all to feel the warm and see and enjoy all 3 tiered overviews soon to be there again (outside of a 2-week period).

Approximately a 5 mile ride to the top!

By John N |

2000 some odd feet above the NY Thruway and the village of Lake George is this attraction. There is a small charge for admission. Then one takes a winding moutain road to the top where one can see for miles on a clear day. There are three stops to the top where you can take pictures. Arriving at the top you can take a shuttle bus to the peak itself. You can also bring a picnic lunch to it. There are bathrooms and drinking water available.

Breathtakingly Beautiful

By Joan W |

You have a choice on how to approach Prospect. Either hike up (a little challenging for a novice) or drive up. Worth the effort. The view is breathtaking.

Beautiful

By Katia O |

It was raining when we went so we were not able to go to the summit but it was beautiful regardless.

Beautiful views

By KellyV |

We opted to drive up the mountain as we heard the climb was pretty steep. Just the quarter mile hike from the parking lot was steep so i can imagine what the rest of the hike would be like. Views from the top were beautiful and there is some interesting history on the old rail system and hotel that used to be on the property. Normally there is an entrance fee to drive up the mountain but it was free when we were there.

Spectacular views!

By Kristen T |

This is a definite must see! 4 spots where you can park and look at Lake George! Last one at the top is worth it....100 mile view on a clear day!

Stunning views of Lake George

By tmphoto98 |

We tried Prospect Mt last weekend and we are so glad we did. After paying the $10 car entry fee, you gradually make it up the mountain and stop at convenient overlooks. The first was the Narrows, the the second one was eagles Eye,and the last was the Summit. Each succeeding parking re got increasingly higher. At the Summit there is a shuttle bus that takes you to the very top hat 2080 feet. Spectacular. There are picnic tables and trails. On our next visit we are going. to bring lunches and picnic. Worth the visit.

Beautiful views!

By MEC-0401 |

Beautiful views. Worth a visit. You will have to walk to the last viewpoint at the top. You can take your car up, but cannot park your car up there. I actually loved the view from the 1st stop the best!

Beautiful Hike

By BHoban |

Strava! You can start at the trailhead on Smith street and hike all the way up to the top - about 3 miles round trip - and then there is no fee and you get a decent workout in. Beautiful views at the top. Pretty, well marked trail, just follow the red markings.

Beautiful view. Interesting history.

By Carol Z |

Definitely worth the per car full charge. Drive to the summit and park. Either take the included shuttle to the top, or hike up. Quite steep but good exercise. Picnic tables are available if you bring food. Beautiful views of Lake George.

First Visit

By Lori S |

$10 for car to go through. Can see down on the lake for beautiful pictures. Steep drive up the mountain.

Leaf peeper satisfied

By Amy R |

The views were good, although it was a bit hazy and rain in the area we still saw some great vistas. The park is well taken care of, drainage work being done at the top in the picnic area. We look forward to going back next year when things are open.

Dogs ARE allowed...

By HGBPink |

We had been here once before and the view is simply beautiful.

After reading on the ‘Visit Lake George’ pet friendly page that dogs are allowed there, we decided to take our Yorkie back with us. But when you drive up to pay for the car ($10.00) there is a big sign saying PETS NOT ALLOWED. Luckily we asked and were told as long as dogs are kept on a leash then it’s okay. I’m not sure why the sign is up. Maybe to deter too many dogs?

Anyway I’m not complaining, just letting others know that it’s okay and ignore the sign!

Once we drove to the top we spent quite a while there. It’s so peaceful and beautiful, I felt relaxed almost instantly.

Always a treat!

By MichaelsFood |

Going up the mountain is always a treat. Even without the trolley that goes from the summit parking to the actual summit, it’s well worth the visit. An easy walk to the top reward you with fantastic views.

Beautiful views

By Diana D |

We entered this park and drove up the mountain stopping at each of the 3 levels to get out and take in the views. Although there was quite a bit of brush we were still able to look out and see the town of Lake George and the gorgeous views from the mountian.

Beautiful

By Raymond S |

The views are very picturesque! The Summit was closed unfortunately so we could not see the view from there.

GREAT VIEWS .YOU WILL LOVE IT

By broadchannel8 |

GREAT VIEWS OF LAKE GEORGE AND SURROUNDING AREA .My wife and i drove to the top and walked the rest of the way to the summit FANTASTIC ..We did not pay the 10 dollars at this time of year but even if we did so well worth it .A must if you are in the area

Beautiful Views

By Cttraveler66 |

This was our second trip to Lake George and we finally got a nice day to go up Prospect Mtn. It was a short drive up to the parking lot and then took a shuttle to the top. The views were spectacular! It's a great place for a picnic lunch or just something to do for an hour.

Beautiful

By Lexy |

Defi6a must see when visiting LG. The view is amazing. You can take a bus to the top and back down but it's a super easy walk as well. Only takes a few minutes both ways from the big parking lot. There is stops along the way to the top you can pull into and enjoy the scenery

The top of the world view

By twisterracer |

We drove up the mountain..$10 to get in. Then walked up the trail to the top. Nice historic signs, beautiful view of the lake and surrounding mountains. Just make sure you wear comfortable shoes and are well enough to walk up to the top.

Nice way to round out the trip

By Cate M |

We were lucky to have a break in the rain during our visit, and decided to take the quick trip up the mountain. If you have 20-30 minutes to kill, and want a quiet, peaceful view, go for it! I believe it costs $10 per car most of the time, but they weren't charging when we went. Some of our best pictures came from this little side trip!

Beautiful start for Lake George area!

By katem j |

We started our mini trip here. You have beautiful views o f Vermont Green Mountains, New Hampshire's White Mountains, Lake George area, and possibly the Canadian Mountains! It costs about $10.00 or less/free for N.Y. seniors. You drive part of the way and take a shuttle (or walk-but steep) to the top. Can see the remains of the Cog Railway/Pulley System.

Dissatisfied

By Mike S |

Wow,what a disappointment!
Came up here 11 years ago and each pull off had great views now totally overgrown. You can walk a steep trail to the summit from the lower parking lot but if you opt to drive you can’t stop to park or take pictures.Even if you drive it you can’t see over the wall.

Know before you go!

By Jessie K |

I'm sure this is a 5 star with the exception that you need to know which route to take ...all very ambiguous so do your research. There is a red and blue trail, if you don't realize when it splits you can wind up on the longer blue trail which I read is easier to climb but still longer. Then when you get to the top red meets blue except it's no longer red but orange? At that point exhaustion takes over and we just kept going blue, because we did not know what the orange was for and at the blue peak, nada, no view! My 11 year old was done, it was a trust exercise all the way up, too tired to even go backwards to meet orange again and go on the correct red/orange trail. So back down the mountain we went. Maybe next time! P.S for those that want the pics without the pain there is a highway that goes all the way up however it is closed until July 1.

Beautiful Views at All Stops!

By bigwawao |

We were told that there is a $10 fee to enter the drive. But when we arrived at the outpost, there was no one manning it! 😆

For Nature lovers!

The road is well paved 2 lanes with stones for side rails.
Going up the outlooks are well marked. Each outlook has it's own particular view of the area and of the Lake.

The top parking spot is huge. There is a comfort station (solar powered) that is unfortunately closed (?due t covid?) In it's place are two porta potties.☹️ Sorry no pictures. You know how they look (and smell)

The road, starting from the level of the top parking spot, to the top of the mountain is closed. You can hike up there. It is not that steep, strenuous, or long. I have bad knees and I manage to do it- slowly.

At the top you get to see some relics from the past and a beautiful view of the lake.

There are no tables and chairs for picnics. They have been all shuttered and stored due to covid. At the top, you could see unused grills and tables and chairs stored in a shed.

If you need a relatively flat place to eat, some of the rock boundaries are relatively flat. If you drive to the far end of the parking lot, there is a flat stone wall (which separates another parking lot) which you can use as a sort of table.

A very nice lazy drive with great views.

Came with a bus group

By O2523EUann |

Beautiful veiws of Lake George; well worth the trip; make sure you travel on a clear day; Can see 4 states from the submit

Terrific views of the entire region

By joeF_10 |

We got lucky.. great weather and no fee to get in. There are several overviews and each is unique and worth the stop. At the top, you have choice of road or trail to the summit. While the trail is shorter it is very steep. Either way, it’s a must see.

Beautiful views but the shuttle bus wasn’t running!

By susmug |

I visited in the height of tourist season in mid August. There is supposed to be a shuttle bus that takes you to the summit from the 4th lookout point. Unfortunately it wasn’t operating that day, which was inexcusable, and there are no Park personnel at the top to guide you on how to walk up to the summit. Then I see all these cars driving up to the top past the sign that says “only authorized vehicles beyond this point “. Well there was nobody there to stop them. I just don’t like to break the rules so I had to improvise my walk up and the path I chose was extremely steep and difficult. Shame on the park for not accommodating elderly and disabled visitors. They should know better.

Hiked to the top from the village!

By T D |

This was a challenging hike to the top of Prospect Mountain! It can get steep at times and make sure to bring water. Overall great views of the lake at the top and parking area if you drive up. We also took the trail to the summit which had awesome views. Highly recommend this if your ready to do some hiking.

very well marked and easy hike

By equinox001 |

Plenty of on-street parking available at the trail head. You will not miss anything if you drive as opposed hike, so hiking is purely if you want good exercise. In fact, Oulook #2 on the way up offers arguably better views than from the summit. During the season be aware of bugs, good idea to have insect repellent if hiking.

Great mountain experience

By KDhoot |

Peaceful, quiet, pristine clean, fresh mountain air, lovely hike. After the humdrum around the Lake the peace and quiet of this mountain was refreshing. Plan to spend a couple of hours there and bring a picnic lunch.

Overview of Lake George

By Navycod |

The view from on top of Prospect Mountain is just breath taking, the ride up the Mt. is very scenic and interesting.

Waste

By Monica F |

Not worth the 10.00 they charge for each car. Most of the views were blocked from overgrown trees and shrubs. When you reach the summit there is no parking.

Great view of lake George

By Nicole B |

We drove to the top of the mountain. In order to get to the peak, we had to hike a little (about 8 mins). It was not hard and the view was breath taking. The park ranger was very polite and helpful. Thank you.

Top of the mountain

By Richard L |

My wife and I looking for views she could take pictures of for future paintings the ride provides numerous stops each with a better view great opportunity

Hiked up a mountain

By Kari |

Girls weekend with my friends and we set off to hike up prospect mountain. It is basically a steep incline the entire trek up. Once at the top you find a parking lot, if you keep going you will find beautiful views.

Prospect Mountain

By Cathy |

Great place to bring family and children wonderful views and if you love hiking this is the place love it here

Beautiful Overlook

By caribbeantraveler91 |

We took the drive to Prospect Mountain on a beautiful clear day. At the time of our drive, they were not charging the $10 entrance fee. There were several places to pull off and take in the views of Lake George. At the last stop, visitors can park and take the hike to the top, but the views on the way up are spectacular, if it's not something you choose to do or can physically do.

Views Were Limited

By Scott G |

The day that we visited Prospect Mountain was absolutely gorgeous - blue skies, 70’s temp. There were three stopping areas and one at the top which had the parking blocked off. Other than the lack of parking at the top, the biggest disappointment was the lack of views due to the State’s lack of keeping the trees and bushes trim. However, the only redeeming value was that we are senior, NY citizens so we didn’t have to pay the 10 dollar entrance fee. Very sad.

Great views

By mikakit |

Awesome place to fully enjoy the views of Lake George. $10 fee to drive up. There are bathrooms and a few coolers of water as well. There is also a 3 mile round trip hike with a 1,500 ft elevation change you can take from Smith St. downtown.

An Awesome View

By Gerald W |

We rode up this mountain on motorcycles, 19 years ago, to check out the view. WOW...it's amazing. On a hot day, on a cool day, it's beautiful. We went there a week ago and only snow mobiles were allowed up the mountain. I wish we could have gone up there. We go up every year we go to Lake George. A must for visitors to see the entire area.

Stunning views, excellent road and viewpoints, friendly staff

By Ben B |

We didn't know how it worked, and arrived shortly before closing. We didn't make it to the true summit, but still got a some great views from the stops on the way to as high as we could go. At every point, the staff were friendly and explained the closing procedure clearly but still cheerfully. The facility is a fitting tribute to the heroes who served their country.

Great Views of Lake

By Judi B |

It was a nice drive up the mountain. There are several stops to take in the view of the lake. The peak was under construction so we didn't get to go all the way to the top.

Nice View of Lake George and Surrounding area...that's about it.

By Joe B |

If you're staying in the Lake George area of New York and are looking for an hour or two to kill, a trip up Prospect Mountain might be a good idea. It cost's $10 a carload to access the entryway and there are various points along the way you can stop your vehicle and take pictures. You can drive almost to the top, where you're directed toa huge parking lot (which is practically empty) and from that point you can either take a frequently running shuttle up the few remaining feet of the mountain or walk the rest of the way. We opted for the shuttle, but if you're a tad younger a the walk appears short.

Once there, there's a small picnic area, an old rusty flywheel that once facilitated the old tramway and various spots to view Lake George and take some nice pictures. I would say it was definitely worth the $10 and might be a nice destination for an afternoon picnic.

Nice view

By Wortboy |

It's a must see. A 100 mile view. Unfortunately it was a bit overcrowded. We were told we would be able to relax and "reflect". Not so. So many unfriendly, discourteous people around that it was nothing short of impossible to do anything relaxing and reflective. Oh, and be sure you go to the restroom BEFORE you get there - the outhouse at the top of the mountain was filled to the brim and dirty and disgusting.

Best Views

By CBarcomb85 |

2nd time to the top of the mountain and never get tired of the views you get. There are 3 view stops for you before getting to the top. No shuttle the day we went, but the walk up the road took only 5 to 10 minutes..

Stanning view perfect fuolge

By eyal |

10$ per car and your in nature paradise
You drive almost to the summit or if you can and have the ability clim to the top by hiking
At the top parking lot you will find a shuttle to the peak
The view all the way is incredible 3 panoramic view point along the climb
From the top on a good visibility day you can see the lake and all the mountain surrounding it
The trail from the top parking lot is easy even with a 4 years old child

$10 day trip!

By Sarah P |

So I read this article... 10 things to do in Lake George for $10 or less and this was on the list... It was worth the $10 even though it was a little cloudy when we went the view was still absolutely amazing! We plan to go again in the fall to see the fall leaves!

A stop outside Lake George

By AmirHY |

Nice area for a picnic outside lake George. We walked to the top and its a very nice walk and scenery. Worth coming here when in Lake George anyhow.

Worth the drive

By Team Robertson |

We were expecting it to be as amazing as Whiteface mountain, which it was not. To be fair the summit entrance was closed for an unknown reason. We found the view to get increasingly worse as you ascended, which was surprising so don't skip the stops.

Nice Side Trip

By Todd_Michon |

I've been up Prospect a couple times and though you can hike up, we drove. There is a small fee. You get to a parking area and then they shuttle you up or you can walk a short distance further. The views of Lake George are awesome. I've always loved the lake and have spent many years here. It's a great side trip if you're visiting.

Great history

By Birdie2275 |

Had been to Lake George a few times before but this is the first time we drove up Prospect Mountaain and would definitely recommend. The best part was seeing the remains of the Pulley system for tourists in the late 1800's and reading the history of it. The bus ride they provide for the last steep part at the top of the mountain was convenient and it constantly runs so no waiting. Huge parking lot before you board. I'm glad we didn't walk up from the parking lot, maybe we could have walked back down but didn't. The view of Lake George and the surrounding mountains was spectacular. Well worth the $10 car entrance fee.

world class beautiful

By chimayred |

Not much to add. Great views. Easy to find; just google Prospect Mountain Highway or Veterans Memorail Highway, Prospect mountain.
Currently free to enter and drive up and park. Otherwise there is a fee, and it would be well worth paying.
There are about 4 lookouts of varying degrees of "oooh" factor on the way up. Stop if you wish. The real views are from the top. They call it the 100 mile view and man, they may be right. There is loads of parking at the top, then a long easy to climb paved road to walk around to the summit or a shorter but steeper set of stairs and a trail just to the left. Either will get you there. Once you are there, you are in for a stunning view of the Lake and surrounding adirondacks. At the right time of year (we went in autumn) the colors are gorgeous, esp. if there is a blue sky. World class beautiful.

It was a amazing to view lake George at the top of the mountain and I would recommend going to see the amazing view

great views

By Jcgnj |

The road up to the top was so very scenic with beautiful fall foliage. The view on the top was beautiful, loved the little bus ride.

Awesome Views

By Juan S |

Once you reach the main parking lot, you have to hoof it to the top. Took the paved path about .2 miles but steep. Thought I was going to have a stroke:). Talk the road instead. But the views were well worth it.

Beautiful views

By Denise U |

There are 3 stops up the mountain.....great places for family or romantic pics.
If you are 62 or older with NY plates your car gets in free.
$10 fee otherwise. Worth it.
Also, the 5 minute walk to the top is VERY tough.

Fall foliage

By ptcmk34 |

I just visited Prospect mountain to see the fall foliage and it was breathtaking. I was shocked in away by the lack of people. Maybe it was the weather.
With the fall colors, orange and red and yellow wow it blew me away.
I ended up spending one extra night because the colors up there were unlike any I have ever seen.

Nice view from Prospect Mountain!

By Hey |

This was a very nice view from the top. We like to do more of the scenic tourist events and it was a very nice drive.

Nice view, but should be free to the public

By Todd S |

It’s just not that impressive. The pull offs don’t seem to have the best angle and view of the lake. Maybe that’s because it’s summer and the trees are out. It’s pretty, don’t get me wrong, and there aren’t many people here but it’s not worth $10 per car. Half price for motorcycles which is great!

Pretty views

By sket101 |

We did not have to pay to drive to the parking lot and then hiked up the closed paved road to get to the summit. Nice views of Lake George and surrounding mountains.

Worth the ride!

By Cinderella |

The ride up and down this Mountain is a well maintained roadway with great scenic areas to pull over. The shoulders are not steep for the faint of heart. We went up on our Motorcycles no problem. There are composting toilets available at the top.

Great Views

By Valerie M |

When we went, the summit was closed due to Covid restrictions. We were able to drive up to the first few view points. The views were great.

Beautiful views of Lake George

By Maria P |

We went on Veteran's Day, not realizing it was the last day Prospect Mountain was open for the season. The lovely lady at the booth said admittance was free for the last day. The drive up has 3 spots where you can pull over and take in the views and then you almost get to the top where there is a larger parking area. If you want to go up to the summit, you cannot park there. The views are incredible. We've been a couple of times before, but it wasn't so late in the season and a tram would take you to the summit. Highly recommend. We saw plenty of hikers on our way up.

So beautiful!

By MamaOfTwoBoys_12 |

My 6 and 9 year old boys were skeptical about this side trip. In the end, they LOVED it! The eagerly got out at each of 3 overlooks to climb on rocks and pose for pictures. It is $10 a car to go up the highway and completely worth it. Super well maintained. Picnic areas at the top. A short 4 minute hike up from parking area to summit. My kids loved the views and climbing around.

Amazing Views

By Angie |

This is definitely a place worth seeing at least once. The drive here is fairly easy and short. There is a lot of parking and the hike to the very top from the last parking lot is also easy. The views from here are amazing and there are some picnic tables for those who want to eat here!

Pack a lunch!!

By artemis846 |

Beautiful mountain! We rented little "coupe cars" they were considered motorcycles, so we were able to go all the way up to the summit!! That was great, because we would not have been able to walk it!! The views are amazing!!!! Definitely worth it!! $10.00/CAR. 5.00 /COUPE OR MOTORCYCLE.

Great!

By Joe R |

Beautiful! Worth the $10 fee for the car ride up. Plenty of parking. Good picnic spot at the summit.

If you can climb the stairs, you can do the Mt.

By Richard B |

My wife and I hike this mountain every year. It certainly is a challenging hike. The views from the top are worth every step. The greatest effort spent is climbing the stairs that leads to a bridge that spans the Northway highway at the trailhead. It’s an interesting start. The hike is best done when the weather has been dry, since there are plenty of opportunities to slip. Be warned, when you reach the top after a hard hike, there are those that drove up on an alternate route. They don’t have the battle scars of a hike, but their snacks will never taste as good as yours.

Beautiful scenic outlook!

By Redonion53 |

A moderate hike with some inclines and lots of rocks (like a stream bed), but not bad. The access road was closed to traffic and the trail entrance is in a different location where you take a bridge over the highway. You can walk the access road, but it is longer than taking the trail. Note that the bridge is a bit prickly on the feet for pets. I think it's that way for winter season to provide grip and avoid slipping, but our grand dog was very apprehensive and shaking as we went across. It's pretty long and he is 90 lbs, so we couldn't carry him.

We hiked the trail until we got to the access road (about 25 mins). We walked a short distance on the road to the right to the scenic outlook and had a spectacular view of Lake George! It was such a beautiful day. We hear this view is better than going to the top. We did not hike to the top but were told we were about 1/3 - 1/2 way to the top once you reach the road.

No matter how far you hike, it’s beautiful!

View nice

By Sue B |

Nice easy view from the top of a mountain overlooking Lake George and mountains. Can drive up free after 430 pm. Cannot go all the way to top in car but a short hike and you’re there. Nice end of our day before the park closed.

Very Limited Hours - Plan Ahead

By bbbob84 |

The park is only open from like 10am to 5pm even though in the Summer is light out from 6am to 9pm. We witnessed long lines of cars waiting hours before 10am to get in first. With the limited hours you can't enjoy a sunrise or sunset. From the other reviews it sounds like the parking can be challenging. And I agree there are some great views you can get of Lake George on a free hike if you want to explore outside of downtown.

Great lookout point

By Meera C |

Gorgeous drive up prospect mountain memorial highway - unfortunately we couldn’t get up to the summit as it was closed for resurfacing however we were high enough to get awesome views of lake George and surrounds! Nice spot to check out.

final summer days

By NQuoryo |

morning drive/hike luckily was open, just pay $10 entrance for vehicle & drive to viewing areas, a
good walk to the top is a wonderful view of the lake and surrounding areas, lots of flying bugs so be careful, there’s a picnic area at the top to sit and rest before walking back down or walk around

Family time in the mountains

By Peter |

Very nice views and a great place to bring family.
Excellent experience with breathtaking views
We like to finish up our trip each year by coming here

Overgrown with trees.

By James F |

There was just a sliver of a view on the way up the mountain, None to be seen at the summit due to the trees. It was free for me due to being a NY state resident and a veteran, but I would have considered it a waste of $10 otherwise.

Worth the Workout

By Schmidtd4 |

We hiked up Prospect Mountain just as it was starting to get overcast, and made it to the top just as it started to drizzle! It was actually a great end to the hike because we were hot! It took us a little over an hour to get to the top, but budge a little more because breaks are necessary! Can def be tricky at times but the directions are clearly marked, although not always an easy path! Be prepared! Bring a snack for the top and water for the hike.

Great activity, accessible for most.

By Kristen C |

Great thing to do with friends or family. Only $10 per car. Beautiful views at the 3 overlooks and stunning view at the top. Fun for kids and adults. The short hike at the summit is just right for most, but challenging if you have physical restrictions. There is a shuttle bus available for those that need it.

If you near you must visit

By Aabbady |

When I visited Lake George after Columbus day, there where nothing open in the city. So, I drove to the Veteran memorial highway to visit Prospect Mountain and it was one of the most beautiful view you can see. It was nice informative trip.

Driving up Prospect Mountain

By Colleen W |

The guide up at the top of the mountain was super helpful! Great views! No shuttle was running for the last part so we had to hike it. Wear good shoes!

Great views on a clear day

By Lilacwheaty |

I guess it all depends on the weather. On our visit the sun was shining, the sky was clear and we had a beautiful slow drive up at 9.00a.m At the top car park there were only 2 other cars and from here there is a short pull to walk to the very top. You can also do a loop of the top by car, with no stopping/parking allowed. (there is a spot for disabled vehicle which is a nice touch). staff we met were friendly and knowledgeable.
All in all a fantastic start to our day touring vermont, mostly heading south on Highway 100.

Amazing views

By Stanelle P |

For $10 a car you can drive to different points to see amazing views. There is a shuttle that comes every 8 min. to take you to the very top. On the Shuttle you’ll hear a brief history of the mountain, the mountain house, and the railroad.
On the mountain top, you’ll see amazing views, could read more history of the RR and Mountain House.

I wish I knew in advance that they had places you can BBQ, and picnic tables, in the future, I may have a picnic up there.

great views at most stops, some had overgrown bushes, blocking view. no shuttle to top like website mentioned, maybe cause of covid.

Great place for fall foliage

By SiewLeong |

Worth the ride.

Nice paved road, There are multiple picture spots. Birds eye view from various parking picture spots.

Must go!

By Angelize1999 |

The views are amazing. $10 admission. A few stops to stop before you reach the top. You have to park, and then hike up to the top as there is no parking at the very top. You can stop and drop off people if needed. Can't beat the beautiful views! Only thing that would make it better is a sign to know which direction you are looking at. It's said you can see Vermont/New Hampshire from the top...but wasn't sure what we were looking at.

Don't pay the $10 toll to drive up this mountain

By Judy423 |

Unless you are into hiking (which we did not do), don't bother to drive up to Prospect Mountain. When we got to the top, there was only a parking lot to accommodate supposed scenic views of Lake George, but we could not really see the lake due to a lot of trees and brush. Maybe if you hike further up, the views are better?

Shuttle bus eliminated to the summit

By Big Red Jonson |

$10 per carload. You can drive to a parking lot near the top but the shuttle bus from the parking lot to the summit has been eliminated. A very steep, difficult climb to the summit will prevent many from enjoying the view at the top.
Three stops along the road on the way to the top but the view at the third stop has become completely blocked by overgrown vegetation. Come on New York State, you should be better than this.

Top of Lake George

You can see the beautiful Lake George from prospect mountain.
I really enjoyed the view of the town and Saratoga race course.

Awesome hike for adults and kids

By meenakshisomnath |

Challenging if you are not an physically active person, but its still doable with little breaks on the way. we did with kids 5 yr old to teen agers and didn't hear any complaints from anyone. It was lot of fun seeing some little snakes on the way. Recommend to take hiking sticks and lot of water. Water supply is available on the peak too.

Nice but not great.

By mgoett |

There is a very steep hill you have to walk, but you drive up mostly which is fine. alot of views were obstucted by over grown trees. you did get to see the entire lake. go on a clear day.

Blocked views due to trees

By Darlene B |

There were three spots to stop and view the area below. It was ok, but the trees have been allowed to grow in front of where the lookouts are. Two of the areas did not have clear views because of the trees. We paid $10 to view what we really couldn't! New Hampshire does a much better job with the natural viewing areas!

Fun as Always!

By dcap51310 |

Fun as always! Summit was closed due to covid but you can still go to the other parts for pictures. Still great. Usually $10/carload but this year for some reason was free.

Great view of Lake George and the Adirondacks!

By rddiggins |

This mountain view is well worth driving up to. The view of Lake George and the Adirondacks are stunning.

Hike or drive

By Chabrro |

This is a nice easy hike with great views at top. Also accessible by car with parking at top. There are picnic tables and panoramic views. It's a very popular spot, located very close to town of Lake George.

Fall views on Columbus Weekend

Scenic Drive up and down the mountain, great views of Lake George and Fall Foliage. No charge to drive. Fair sized crowds at overlooks and summit.

It was very amazing to see and to think how the people lived back in time! It was amazing to see Lake George from the top

On top of the mountain

By Kirk E |

It's 10 a car load. A nice mountain with 3 lookout points before you get to the top of the mountain that you park at. The very top is reached via a short free bus ride or you can walk it as it's short. It has several picnic tables and grills on top. So if you want to bring some food. It's a nice view of Lake George. The mountain closes at 6pm and a ranger will kick you off.

Phenomenal

By KuhnsGuy |

Worth double the price. Scenic vista views, words do the panoramic photo opportunities little justice. Spend 10 minutes or so at each of the three early marked outlook locations. Slow down, escape the stress and take-in views unchanged for centuries.

Shuttle runs every 8 minutes once you reach the large parking area at the summit.

A wonderful experience. Subtlety. Simplicity. Beautiful

Beautiful fall foliage

By Maltipoo16 |

The mountain gave a great view of the beautiful fall foliage. Also gave some great views of lake George and the surrounding Adirondack mountains. Absolutely beautiful.

Stunning

By Jamie A |

For $10 a carload you have to take the ride up Prospect Mountain!! You'll see sights you've never seen before of Lake George. The views are spectacular, magnificent, etc. etc..... There's 2 outlook spots you drive to where you can rest, picnic, hike, and take pics and then there's the summit. Take the shuttle to the summit, you won't regret it!! At the summit, fyi... there's only one port-a-potty.

Best trip ever

Great views of Lake George and surroundings.

By dianewA8715AR |

If you are staying in Lake George or traveling through, take the time to drive up Prospect Mountain. Views are lovely as we’ve enjoyed during Summer and Fall. There are stops along the way up the mountain to pull off and observe the beauty of the views and once you reach the top, views are breathtaking.

Only open when it is burning hot.

By Toohot0 |

Maybe it is beautiful from the top, but I will never know. They only open between 10am and 5 pm, which is a time when it is just too hot and the sun is too strong , for us to go hiking. What does it cost them to keep it open? I don’t use their services when I walk. This is just restricting people’s freedom to enjoy our country for no reason.

Lovely !

By Asad I |

A lovely mountain in Lake George which has beautiful views of the lake from the top.

The entrance per car is $10 and it is a 15-20 mins ride to the top. From there you have to walk for 5-10 mins to reach the summit. The walk is steep.

We spent about 20 mins on the summit admiring the beauty of the lake and the surrounding areas.

Beautiful !

Always a reliable attraction

By johnluriejr |

It was cold by my standards but well worth the climb! The buses were not running that day, so we had to climb to the top. A tad bit arduous for us, but nevertheless we made it without medical interaction. The views were spectacular!

A must do when visiting Lake George. Beautiful views and a reasonable admission price. Take an hour or so for the experience.

Beautiful Views from the Top

By Steve S |

This is a beautiful park with great views overlooking Lake George. $10 admission to the park. There are 3 to 4 viewing areas where you can stop and take photos and enjoy the view, then there's a shuttle bus which takes you to the very top of the mountain with stunning views.

View was great

By tlcarr1968 |

This view was very nice. Quite a few visitors when we were there. Was hoping for more stops along the way. Definitely a great cause.

Fantastic fall foliage views

By mlangholz |

We caught the peak fall foliage and the drive up the mountain was gorgeous. The pull-off viewpoints are worth savoring.

nice views

By TREK39 |

i think this is a forgotten gem in the area. Its just out of the center of town. Nice drive up . Only $10. Cash only. and free for seniors.....Ask for that discount. Plenty of parking. I had 2 problems with it. 1- they didn't allow me to walk up the road, and 2- there are no garbage cans...even though there are picnic areas.

Well worth the short drive!

By Douglas B |

When in Lake George do yourself a favor and take a couple hours and go up Prospect Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway, preferably on a clear day. It's only $10 per car load. The views are awesome. You can see 100+ miles on a good day!

It's about a 5 mile drive up the mountain. There are also 4 scenic pull offs on the way up with great views of their own.

You can't drive all the way to the top. You drive up to a large parking lot. Then you can either hike up a pretty steep, paved trail, to the actual summit, or take a free shuttle bus up. We took the bus up to the top then walked the trail back down when we were done.

There are tables and a pavilion at the top as well as bbq's if you want to cook up some lunch. There are remnants of the old cable car system that used to go from the summit down to Lake George village.

Well worth the price of admission. You can see into Vermont and also Mt. Marcy, the highest point in NY. Make sure you go on a clear day to maximize your experience, although we went on a cloudy / hazy day and it was all beautiful! Recommended!!

Breathtaking

By April M |

We have been spending time in Lake George for years and finally made it to Prospect Mountain. The views are gorgeous, I highly recommend it.

Awesome views!

By RoadRunnerGramma |

There are several places to pull off the access road to enjoy incredible views of Lake George. The top has nice picnic tables and areas to walk around for a variety of views of the lake.

View from top amazing

By jrsyshoregrl |

We went in the early afternoon and couldn’t make it to the top due to fog. We came back late afternoon and fog had lifted. So glad we did - the views are great. You park near the top and either walk up a paved path or take the shuttle to the top. We recommend Prospect Mountain for great views of Lake George!

Must see!

Stunning view from the top of the mountain. Clear views for miles bc and miles. Be sure to bring your own binoculars to get the best views.
