The real New York

By Damian120 |

I used to live right across the street from the park. It's a beautiful setting on a fine summer's evening.

Wonderful experience in nature

By Stefania |

Blessed with a sunny day in late fall, prospect park is a delightful experience.
The park is gorgeous and full of small trails. Really well kept with relaxing vibes.

Avoid, trust me

By Kensi B |

I've lived in Brooklyn for 20 years, and I loved the park so much I even bought an apartment right near it. It used to be beautiful and wild but sadly I can't recommend it anymore. Thanks to an apathetic NYPD, Parks Dept, and Prospect Park Alliance, the past couple of years the park has turned into a dumping ground, homeless encampment, e-bike melee, and general grossness and danger. A typical run in the park consists of passing a nearly naked guy sleeping on a mattress, with his tent and entire "home" set up right on the path, another guy relieving himself in the bushes, a couple throwing fireworks at passersby, e-bikes tearing up the paths as if they are mountain bikes, and enormous piles of garbage with rats who aren't scared of you at all. Yeah, it's real "bucolic." Take it from a real New Yorker and go to the Botanical Gardens or Greenwood Cemetery, all beautiful places equipped with gates and people who care about keeping them up.

Short visit, but impressed with the beauty

What a gem! My son and I had a couple of hours to spend in this park and it was lovely. We will definitely return when we have more time.

Brooklyn’s Main Parkland

By WorldTravla7 |

Prospect Park (like Central Park) is man-made, super big and a gorgeous refuge from the “concrete jungle” of skyscrapers and hustle and bustle that defines NYC.

There are excellent birdwatching opportunities (I saw a striking red breasted bird), squirrels, lakes (on which you can go boating), large green fields, historical markers, and an abundance of quiet walking tracks through creeks where you can bliss out and be at one with (man made) nature.

There are guided tours available from the visitor centre (its free, so don’t expect much, but they provide binoculars for bird watching) and you can hire bikes at various points around the park (cost is around $12 per hour from Lakeside/LeFrak centre but the bikes are fairly low quality with no gears and they take your ID until you return the bike). Also, you can only stick to the main perimeter as the smaller paths through the most interesting parts of the park are restricted to pedestrians.

Also, the park is big with lots of tracks off in different directions, so it’s easy to get lost, therefore I recommend downloading a copy of the park map with you to assist in navigation including getting to the two separate metro stations on either side of the park.

In terms of getting to the park there are two metro stops. One is on the Q line (catch this from Manhattan, 42nd St Station) and stops at Prospect Park Station on the East side crossing the Manhattan Bridge (you can access the Brooklyn Zoo and Botanic Gardens from here). The other way I used was to catch the A train from Port Authority and change to the F line at Jay St MetroTech in Brooklyn which will take you to the 15th St Prospect Park stop on the West side which has some shops & cafes nearby.

There is a particularly impressive cafe/food court, the Bluestone Lakeside (at the Lefrak Centre, next to roller skating rink) in the park that does a superb 3 bean veggie burger with sliced avocado and sauces for < $10. Wifi in the cafe is also included.

All in all Prospect Park is well worth a few hours of your time, even if you’ve already seen Central Park as the two are quite different. Be sure to visit the Gardens while you are there too.

Beautiful park

By CanRoxygo |

take your bike or rent a citi bike..lots of ground to cover!

went for a walk on a sunday and had a great visit. lots of places to take a break and soak in nature while within the bustling park slope area!

We live right across the street from this park and its just awesome. We are frequent visitors.

By DaRuizAdventures |

Many playgrounds to choose from. Baseball fields, football and soccer fields. Awesome track that loops the whole park. Bbq sections. Ice skating, roller skating rinks. Its definitely the central park of brooklyn fully equipped with a beautiful lake and a bandshell for summer concerts.ENJOY!

Wasn't impressed

By wherehaveinotbeenyet |

Didn't spend that long here as was disturbed by the loud music coming from the ice skating rink. It's a large park so the rest of the park may have been better, but I didn't find sitting by the lake very relaxing.

A great escape from city living

By SereneRose |

I enjoy going to this park at least once weekly. You can bring your dog off leash to play between 7-9 am, go bike riding, running, row boating, ice skate or just chill out in the many different fields. It's very safe and feels like your far away from the concrete jungle right outside the Prospect Park.

Endless green

By noak346 |

I went on a sunny Sunday, it was a lot of fun getting lost in this big beautiful park. There were a lot of places to sit with a picnic blanket and very chill atmosphere. Loved it!

Brooklyn's Equivalent To Central Park

By SUBZEROSKIDD10 |

While it’s smaller than Manhattan’s Central Park and definitely not as famous, Brooklyn’s Prospect Park is a great place to take a walk with your dog, get some exercise, or just enjoy the fall foliage. As a lesser-known park, it’s not always packed with people and performances, and you can actually enjoy the solitude.

Brooklyn's amazin' -- Prospect Park is a main reason why!

By rip2632 |

Unlike Central Park, Brooklyn's Prospect park is both spectacular and secluded, a therapeutic retreat from stress, congestion, and noise. Very easy to get to -- there are 4 different subway stations on various borders of this massive park, and others within a couple of blocks. But once you're in, you'll feel a strong sense of peace and quiet: the tree line along the borders makes you feel like you're deep in the countryside, and there are no noisy thoroughfares that annoy. And there are sooo many great attractions -- from the Long Meadow, to Children's Corner and its carousel, to the rink, pond, and café at LeFrak Center, and even a zoo that's the perfect size. Wandering aimlessly is a pleasure. Visit just once and you'll become a regular -- or want to.

Beautiful park gets lots of use

By BronwenSydney |

Great place for walking, running, cycling. Lots of family groups having bbq’s and even free concerts at times. It is a huge well kept park and a gem in a busy city.

Green gem in the city

By Lin |

We have family who live just around the corner from this gem of a park, and they use it to run, walk dogs, picnic, meet friends and generally wind down after a hard day's work! We love to stroll around the park, chatting as we go, and laughing at the squirrels being silly. The boathouse is so pretty...

Afropunk

By Meccs |

This was a really large concert venue. I attended Afro punk 2017. Enjoyed myself. Easy access with Lyf and Uber

A wonderful park for recreation or peaceful walking

By Fiona S |

We walked in the park on a cold crisp sunny day in March. So refreshing after time spent in the hectic city. In the Autumn the trees must be a feast for the eyes and I can’t wait to return.

Conviniently positioned in downtown Brooklyn, this city park offers a great alternative to the Cental Park in Manhattan.

By Venture797295 |

I was visiting Prospect Park all seasons around, for the last 25 years, and still like this city park. From rollerblading to riding a bike, or just simply walking across multiple passage, the time will be well spent. You can discover a small pond with an option of a boat ride, a small museum, having a BBQ, or play sports. Parking is a problem around this park, so please allow yourself an extra time for this.

Beauty and History

By TravelNerd |

In the heart of BK near so many great attractions.. nicely tucked and perfect to just reflect and enjoy the beauty of nature

Dreamy Local Resource

By HolyokeHome |

What a gem. Larger than Central Park, with more nooks and museums/offerings. Easy to get to from all parts of western Brooklyn. Take a CitiBike to get there.

Concert

By H Marque |

We try to get to the Prospect Park concert series every summer. The weather wasn’t too cooperative this year but the Courtney Barnett show managed to go on anyway. Glad it went on early rather than canceling. Always a nice venue for a show.

So much more than a park

By Craig R |

Visit this park for biking, walking the winding paths, and the events. Every Saturday there is an excellent farmer's market at the Grand Army entrance with fresh seafood and other meats, wonderful selection of fruits and vegetables, and breads and pastries that will make you so hungry. The park is vast but pick a path to explore and experience the wonderful scenery of this Olmsted wonder.

Great park for just about anthing

By Laurie E |

So much to see and do, strolling, people watching and even a dog beach. I loved watching the dogs swim and frolic with each other. This was my first time here, we brought our lunch over from a nearby restaurant and ate it on the grass, a lovely day for a picnic.

An oasis in the city...

By NY2StudioCity |

I am a bit partial to this park because it was one that I visited as a child, but decades later I have to say it is just as lovely as it used to be. There are many areas of the park that should be visited but one that I particularly enjoyed was the "dog beach" an area where the local dogs have their own swimming hole and if you are fond of dogs this is a very fun and entertaining place to visit.

So much to do!

By Olivia S |

Prospect park is great, coming here with my dad so he can reminisce about playing at the park when he was a kid- enjoying the 'waterpark' and skate rink with my boyfriend and his daughter, smorgasburg on the weekends, paddle boats, outdoor concerts, picnics. There's no shortage in things to do here.

Oasis

By Allan J |

We live nearby, and walk there frequently. There are woods, meadows, and a lake with boats. The park seems very safe during the day. It's large, and 30 feet inside the park it's like you're not in the city. Sundays during the summer there is an outdoor food court. There also are concerts, which are not our thing. Usually losts of cute dogs in the park (on leash).

ran miles and miles in this park

By Harmony B |

The park is beautiful and designed by the same person who designed Central Park. It's gorgeous and when you are inside it, it's very hard to believe you are in such a big city! Definitely worth a visit for a walk or a picnic or just to have a quiet moment in nature, which is good for all of us! :-)

A surprise in Brooklyn

By Robert |

We were staying only a block away from this park but it took us a few days to decide to take a look, and I'm glad we did. Whilst not as refined as Central Park in Manhattan, but it has its own attractions. Our visit as on a Saturday and the park was filled with family groups enjoying BBQs and games, which was great to see. It has a large lake, populated by swans, geese and other water birds, as well as lots of tortoises. Worth having a stroll through if you're in the neighbourhood

A nice park for a stroll

By bristolbob |

This park is massive and with paths going every which way you can spend a peaceful couple of hours away from the hubbub. Two lakes to see and bikes to rent as well. Close to the Park Slope brownstone houses, you can spend a good few hours in the area. I must say that we were astonished at the amount of litter and plastic just thrown around. Bin it all please and save this lovely place.

Free fun on Brooklyn

By Tiffany R |

If you're ever looking for a place to hang out in Brooklyn with a bunch of friends for free one of the best spots to do it is prospect park. It has large fields many playgrounds and concerts depending which side of the park you're on.
It is a nyc park so beware of rats. Also, if you need to use the restroom on a busy weekend go before it's urgent because those lines can be so long!
Bring a blanket, some games, your pets? Have fun!

BIG green park

By Nina H |

We had a bike tour to the park. You can not bike everywhere but the bike lanes are lovely. The park is big and green. You have to take your own picknick because they have no coffee shops or kiosk there. It is a green oase in the big city.

So Lovely You Will Want To Spend The Day!

By misopiso88 |

Lovely park with miles of paths, terrific running trails and large open spaces for folks to hang out. Highly recommend!

Prospect Park

By Debbie M |

Great park! Wonderful for running, biking, walking. Very kid friendly and dog friendly! Loved the bike paths and walking paths. No cars allowed in a majority of the park.

Very beautiful space, and very popular.

By gillian p |

Whilst discovering other Brooklyn boroughs, and because it was sunny, we checked out what this park had to offer. It’s wonderful, and there’s something for everyone. It’s in the very heart of Brooklyn slopes, the Libary is very close by, you are close to all amenities.
There is a zoo for children, and plenty of space to sunbathe,...cyclists and runners etc
Everyone was enjoying the greenery.

Wonderful Park

By GAWS533 |

Such a spectacular park with nature trails and rocks and lakes, and plenty of replenishing entertainment and exercise. NOTE: don't expect to cross over Flatbush to enter into the Botanical Garden. It's fence lined the entire length. You need to go to Mary Pinkett Ave. to access.

A Great Park to Visit

By Jim M |

This park is the best park in NYC. The designer of Prospect Park also designed Central Park.Frederick Law Olmsted preferred Prospect Park as his favorite park.

Happy Place

By Binky L |

An oasis in an otherwise bustling area. Walk, bike, whatever. Not at all commercial. Playground for kids or spread out a blanket and enjoy the environment.

The best park

By Dawg |

Many secret spots do the research. Fly a kite then go to Brooklyn museum. Ex Brooklynite..Botanical gardens too.

Concert

By H Marque |

We try to get to the Prospect Park concert series every summer. The weather wasn’t too cooperative last year but Courtney Barnett opened this year for The National.
Heard the first night had a few glitches with entrance scanners but the second night was flawless at the bandshell.
Walked around the park before the show and the uneven terrain provides a nice workout.

Great venue for live music

By ScubaFred |

First time here, enjoyed the natural and intimate setting - expected to see a much bigger venue! The sound mix wasn't perfect, but we really lived sitting in the grass and being able to see everything. Great food options, and lots of drink tents and merchandise tent always open...so you don't miss a beat. :)

Weekend

By wenxiu h |

We liked it a big green grass field in summer for picnics,or play balls...invited some friends with your kids!!take a look in the zoo, getting to know the Brooklyn history, and there is a landmark army grand nearby if you want to pay a visit also.

Stunning park

By USCKaboom |

On a beautiful Saturday we decided to take a walk in the park after brunch. It's truly a beautiful oasis in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Brooklyn. It's more wild in feel than Central Park though the same designer. Highly recommend visiting.

It's spring time, so take your time there.

By Adalberto C |

The park is huge, green, friendly, full of places to rest, enjoy a pic nic with kids, play games, skate, run, walk or just look around the amazing trees and lowns and hills. Just perfect

Run, cycle or relax in this beautiful park

By Karen P |

I passed through the park many times during my stay in Brooklyn as a break from city sights and it was obvious that it was enjoyed by so many people. Glorious in Autumn.

A quiet oasis

By steveston78 |

On our final day of our one-week trip to NYC, we were beginning to become overwhelmed by the crowds and urbanity of Manhattan, so it was a good bit of planning that we made our last full day “Brooklyn Day”. Visiting Prospect Park was literally, a ‘breath of fresh air’ — it’s a gorgeous park, a nice combination of passive green space, picnic areas, athletic fields, and major attractions (which we actually avoided this day).

Top spot in Brooklyn

By Dogmom11236 |

I was born and raised in Brooklyn, so yes I am biased. However, I have taken many out of town friends to Prospect Park, and it is an oasis in the city. Yes, Central Park in Manhattan is beautiful, but Prospect has that neighborhood feel that in my opinion, CP lacks. At any given time, there will be bikers, dog walkers, runners, and just casual strollers. There is a small zoo, several playgrounds for children, and my new favorite: Smorgasbord ( Sundays) a collection of amazing food trucks and carts. It is busy, but not overwhelmingly. Start at the beautiful Grand Army Plaza, and work your way around. You will be glad you did .

a calm place in the middle of Brooklyn

By PaulAndrea |

the park is a wonderful place no matter if our are enjoying a walk by yourself or with the family. it has a lot of kids friendly spots and also they do concerts in the summer lose to the BBQ areas

Scenic stroll

By S Rose |

Prospect Park brings back so many childhood memories for me. So while on a 48 hr layover with my fiance I decided to take him on a stroll of the park that holds so many memories dear to my heart. Such beautiful Fall weather with color leaves everywhere made it the perfect morning stroll.

Huge Park

By JerseyboyCaligirl |

A beautiful park that is well used year round. Great place for long walks and some historical places here and there. Download a map if you're not with a resident. It's easy to get lost and take a very long hike.

Peaceful park

By Paulie85 |

This park is not as grand or well maintained as Central park, but there are less people which makes it a pleasant park to walk around. There are lots of ducks in Prospect Park Lake to keep children entertained. Brooklyn Museum is located at the north border which is another landmark you can visit at the same time.

Great Park

By kamutakabbir |

Went to PP just yesterday with my son's for their final baseball game. As always, PP was lively with an outdoor concert going on, people biking, jogging, playing soccer, volleyball and baseball. PP is in good shape and clean with good scenery and baseball fields are in good shape overall. Always a great place to go to.

Lovely Park

By GreenUnicorn |

After brunch we headed to Prospect Park for a walk. It was a beautiful fall day, and everyone was enjoying the sunshine and the leaves turning colors. We walked along several of the trails and really had the feeling of being in nature, not in the city. It was an absolutely perfect day for the wedding that was about to take place at the Prospect Park Boathouse.

It has everything

By John K |

This park has it all. Events, food fairs, fishing, boating, exercise stations l, dog runs, etc. This place is amazing. Gooooo!

Beautiful park, more charming than Central Park

By Vincent_van_Halsema |

For being less in the eye of the tourists I must say I prefer the vibe of Prospect Park to that of Central Park. Beautiful, rustic walkways and we also went ice skating there which was lovely.

Beautiful park for all

By Prawet J |

Prospect park was designed by the same person who designed Central Park in Manhattan. It is situated in the area of the Battle of Long Island during the American Revolutionary War. It is considered the second largest public Park in Brroklyn. Visitors who visit the Brooklyn Museum and the Botanic Garden should spend a littl time to visit the Park to enjoy the meadow, and the green or the lake. The Park is the good examample of urban Park because it provides recreational activities and spaces for events. As a visitors, we can just enjoy the green in the city or watching people and family. The Grand Army Plaza is a beuatiful place added to the scene of the Park.

paradise for nature lovers living in Brooklyn

By brooklyntravelchic |

This is the place. Exactly what I always need to reconnect, stretch out and forget the harsh city for a while. Prospect Park is beautifully designed, and the wild, enchanting younger sister of manhattans Central Park, it is a hub and communal backyard for Brooklynites!

Such a beautiful park!

By Saskeddy |

Not to sound cliché but this is Brooklyns central park, and its just as beautiful. lots of energy with great running and cycling trails. don't forget to check out the farmers market at the north entrance.

(Citi) bike ride through the park

By mvanroy |

One of the highlights of Brooklyn, great to discover on foot or bike. We went for a easy ride through the park on a rented Citi bike. But a lot people were also doing their cardio exercise in the park, running or bike racing. Roads were perfect for this - good condition, lot of space and some variation in steepness.

Beautiful park

By Ravindra V |

This park comparatively less crowded than Central Park. It has lake, skate rinks, Brooklyn museum (just outside at a walking distance) and a small zoo. Park is very well maintained and is kept neat and clean.

Tourists

By Stacey C |

It’s ok, the lake is nice but it’s nothing special and had litter everywhere, wasn’t worth the trip, the people are lovely and the surrounding areas are good to walk through but again.. nothing special

Great open space

By Ollys |

We visited on a Sunday. Loads of family bbq lunches going on and we were very jealous. Fabulous surroundings on a beautiful warm sunny day. If you have the wherewithal to do that, I recommend it. Baseball games being played. Citibikes available. Just a lovely outdoor space with less craziness than Central Park.

Bike, walk, run

By Edward Q |

I live close to the Park and enjoy biking it. The loop around the center of the park has a parade of bikers, runners, and people strolling. It is a large park with the Botanical Gardens and the Brooklyn Museum nested on the North and East sides of it. Summer weekends can be crowded. For strolling, I prefer the Botanical Gardens. There are concerts in the park, though I have not attended one.

Peaceful and chilled

By LillieBSM17 |

Lovely park for a walk and an opportunity to get away from the hustle of the city. Undulating small hills alongside brooks and winding pathways provide peace and tranquility. Popular space for joggers, cyclists, dog walkers and families. Buy a bagel on 7th Ave and head over there for some down time. It has a real atmosphere of authentic New York charm.

Prospect Park, not " just the other park!"

By eventsbythirteen |

Prospect Park, also designed by Frederick Olmstead, is really fantastic! Historically, this was Olmstead's favorite, and it is easy to see why! The foliage, water features, building, bike and walking paths, gardens, all gorgeous! Go and visit! You will not regret it!!!

Better than Central Park

By Sara H |

Fantastic park in the wonderful neighborhood of Park Slope. Green space, programming, playgrounds, carousel, zoo, and more.

A Forest in Brooklyn

By sam107 |

Prospect Park is a nice get-away. There are areas where you might feel like Red Riding Hood walking into a forest. But don't worry there's no fox in there. But there's the Prospect Zoo located on the periphery of the zoo located off Flatbush Avenue. There's a lake in here. And unlike that world-famous park a few miles north in Manhattan--Central Park-- you can actually barbecue in here. When I was there during the summer I told my friend I felt like I was around tepees with smoke rising all around me. There is a huge lawn there if you like sitting on the lawn. And great for bicycling. Currently no cars are allowed so the road is free to walk without worrying about traffic.

Better than Central Park

By buztop |

There is something for everyone in this expertly designed park. Very happy to see Olmsted’s visionary design is still relevant and respected today!

A beautiful. Olmstead designed, park

By Vinny S |

What can one say? Prospect is a gem in the heart of Brooklyn. I couldn't begin to count the hours I've spent there. My only complaint is that they closed the road to automobiles. That made no sense at all and just caused more congestion in surrounding streets. Oh... and the traffic patterns in the surrounding streets is absolutely stupid. The park itself is sensational, though.

Sunday afternoon

By Ellen B |

A true gem in the middle of Brooklyn. On a Sunday afternoon there was plenty of green space to enjoy a picnic, a friendly game of soccer or volleyball. We also enjoyed a leisurely stroll through the park.

Beautiful park

By Debbie H |

So much to do; bike ride, hike, walk, skarpte, ice skate, horseback ride. This is a beautiful park, that is enjoyed by so many. There Is a zoo , many paths, a lake , a playground. Definitely check it out, you will have a fun day!

Quick walk through the park was fun

By Not all those who wander... |

We walked through the park after visiting the Brooklyn Museum, it's a great space which was packed with locals and families enjoying the green spaces and lakes. Good for a nice walk and people watching - plus we saw a chipmunk ... AWESOME!

A central park of brooklyn

By HSR |

I grew up in this park and love it's long meadow and paddle boats. It is a comfortable 3.36 miles distance around to run. A great, newly redone skating rink and hosts many concerts including Celebrate Brooklyn concerts in the summer.

Very large park with good police presence (which did make me slightly nervous)

By Tony B |

I was cycling from Coney Island back to Manhattan and google maps diverted me through Prospect Park. It took about 20 minutes to cycle through and at first there were police vehicles every few 100 yds. But then there weren’t anymore which made me a bit worried. However there were plenty of joggers

Brooklyn Premier Park

By Ed S |

Prospect Park is the Master Park of the Boro of Brooklyn. In the Center of the Boro it is accessible to many in each direction east, west, north & south. Bordered by four sides, you can see many of the neighborhoods of Brooklyn like Park Slope. Prospect Park West is like the Central Park West of NYC. Old style homes and buildings. North side is the Grand Army Plaza the cross roads of the Boro. Also the Main Library of the Brooklyn. The East side you will find the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and Brooklyn Zoo. The South portion is Parkside and Park Slope and nearby the historic Greenwood Cemetery. Park in the winter time has it's own Ice Skating Ring. And year around on the North side is the Grand Army Farmers Market. So much to do and see including walking and biking the paths of the Park.

The excitement

By Cam C |

There's so much to do here at the park, as well as things to be seen. It's a very big park. Great place to come for a quiet picnic with a few friends or to take a walk. On one side of the park there are a few activities in the park that's good for the kids and on another side is where most the land is. Although it's majority land, there is still a park located in between. Great park!

Former gem, still very good

By roadwarrior96 |

Beautiful, hisc toric huge park in one of Brooklyn's busiest areas. Spans many neighborhoods. Competes with Manhattan's Central Park. Beautifully laid out. Lakes, Meadows, wooded trails. Paved paths for bike, jog, hike. Small zoo. Sporing fields. We walked 2 hours and barely covered half the park.

Infrastructure and buildings show age, but akways a great oasis for families and individuals.

Beautiful park!

By Kimi2305 |

Ran the Brooklyn 1/2 Marathon in October and we ran 3 miles through the beautiful park and ended in the middle of Prospect Park. The park is free (obviously) and is a great place to walk, bike, sit, picnic, play pickup games, etc. Lots of space for kids to run wild! :)

Beautiful walks without the crowds

By Anshuman R |

I know it might not be a tourist destination, but I love Brooklyn. Great food, great neighborhoods and best of all Prospect Park!

Prospect Park is lovely. I really enjoy visiting right through the year, but fall is my absolute favourite.

And if you visit in the morning it's always calm and peaceful without the usual hordes you might find further north 😉

Great Brooklyn Venue

By Thomas C |

Good place to spend a day there. Very picturesque and serene. I enjoyed many picnics there! Bring your camera!

Great park

By SelineCR |

There is a lot to see and do in the park, a lot of locals do thons of activities and you really get a new York feeling with not much torist. The park is well set up and clean.

A Piece of Nature for Everyone

By H2NY2 |

Prospect Park keeps Brooklyn human. This concrete jungle is a place where our furry friends can socialize with some of their own species. Memories are made in this place. I'd say more memories than you'd get in Central Park. It's a community park that serves the community by being almost exclusively for the community. That is, it's like a library where most things are free for frolickers. Lol!

not to be missed

By Michael F |

a beautiful park to run bike boat explore unwind in middle of brooklyn. easy to get to with plenty of parking nearby

The Park in Brooklyn

By chechango |

Another must visit in Brooklyn: Prospect Park. Designed by the same designers of Central Park and Riverside Park (Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert B. Vaux) is a masterpiece of public spaces

Lovely Park

By OurAdventures2 |

We arrived for a few hours of bird-watching and got a few things there.

There was a twitch for a Mew Gull (Common Gull) which was nice.

Plenty to see and do here.

Get Over Central Park

By Culture39450723599 |

Beautiful park, well maintained, much more personal than Central Park. Go to CP for the history, but to to Prospect Park to really enjoy the peace and getting back to nature. Friendly people, not overly crowded, great for couples, families, and pets.

Beautiful large park popular with walkers and runners.

By Leza H |

Really beautiful park, spread over a large area. Come on Saturday's for the farmers market, see Brooklyn central library, wander around the park, see the arch in Grand Army Plaza and wander the botanical gardens. A great day trip especially if combined with walking from Manhattan over Brooklyn Bridge, through DUMBO area and then hop on a bus or the subway to take you up to Prospect Park area. Brooklyn is worth spending a whole day...if not two if you have the time because there's so much here and the restaurants are generally better and a lot less touristy than in Manhattan.

Peoples Park

By Dolores P |

Prospect Park is a wonderful place for a variety of activities. Very popular with families and sports enthusiasts. Great gathering place for family/group picnics. Lots of space to set up and organize volleyball , frisbee, etc games. Bikers are everywhere and Citibank bike rental is available. Miles of paths for strolling, walking, or running. Very popular for safe dog walking.
Beautiful sights with bodies of water and multiple playgrounds. Lots of benches to rest or people watch. Peaceful inviting park meant to be used by the people.

One of the nicest Frederick Law Olmsted Parks

By BrendanCunningham |

I think this might be my favorite park even over Central Park. Why, because it is fronted by Grand Army Plaza. You would swear you were in Paris.

Beautiful park, just needs a little more care

By Ben Lazo |

Beautiful park in Brooklyn by the same creators of Central Park. Only downside: not as well maintained as Central Park... could use better maintenance of paths, and more consistent trash & graffiti clearing these days.

Still, a worthwhile experience.

Prospect Park is a jewel

By ctm85 |

Beautiful nature get away! There are so many awesome paths and places to see here. Beautiful long meadows, winding paved pathways though forested areas, skating rink, carousel, children's zoo, picnic areas, lake with paddle boats & kayaks, many playgrounds, lots of benches, a drive for bikers, runners, walkers, strollers, music events, and more!

I've been there many times.

By Greg K |

Nice park with nice sculptures buildings, boathouse, bridges, water bodies, yet a bit dirty like many parks in New York.

However I'd recommend it for a visit in spring or autumn. In summer - it's full of barbecues, and noises, and a lot of people. However there are some quiet spots in a park even during the summer.

Beautiful park, huge trees!

By Ellen M |

This is great park for families with children or adults alone. There are many playgrounds, an ice skating rink in winter and picnic areas, bike paths galore. I love this park. An easy walk from my grandchildren in Park Slope, Brooklyn, New York.

Nice beautiful Prospect Park. You can easily spend the day here. Either for a walk/run/bicycle ride, a relaxing picnic or just to chill.

Brooklyn Pride!

By jonahNJ |

On a lovely late Spring Sunday, my wife and I spent the balance of our Brooklyn journey strolling through Prospect Park. This 526 acre park has much to offer visitors. The lanes on the paved path are set up for walkers, runners, cyclists in both directions. Even on a hot day, the trees along the path provide great shade! The grassy areas are open, clean and well kept. However, much of these areas are open to the skies—for better or worse. The day we visited was gorgeous, so lots of visitors were taking advantage of the sunny skies.

The Park even has a Picnic House which can be used for events such as weddings. It is a quaint building that is in a conveniently located place in Prospect Park.

Though it is approximately 200 acres smaller than Central Park, Prospect Park is just as impressive and provides everything from tranquility to exercise spaces to event locations for visitors.

Olmstead says it's the BEST

And who am I to argue? PP has everything you want...including a dog beach! and food and the library's nearby. Can't miss. Oh, and there's a 25 cent automatically self cleaning toilet!

Beautiful little getaway

I live next to this park. Its beautiful in every season. They have a lot of events going on here in summer

Great day for BBQ with the family

By benthony_ny |

Came here to BBQ with the family and all I have to say is wow. I seriously cannot believe this is brooklyn! I felt like I was in jersey or Pennsylvania I swear has a different clean outdoorsy smell. And the park is huge has a big lake for boating which we did and also offers fishing for the kids. Has a lot of turtles just swimming around it's cool never seen that in brooklyn before. Also has a zoo in the park as well as a carousel. Had also a old house on a farm I think which was standing from the 1700's I think I forgot but it's cool they let ppl go inside and check it out. We also rented the bikes they offer a few different selection of bikes for rent we rode around a few times it's cool and fun.

Beautiful park

By Glen W |

Wonderful and well designed Prospect Park is a terrific place for cycling loops, hiking or strolling, bench relaxing or picnicking. A nice alternative with less crowds to Central Park for a days outing.

Grand park

By Nolinice |

Over the weekend we enjoyed this busy space in summer, visiting a farmer market, enjoying an evening (free) Jamaican concert and pushing our bikes on one of the hills with a bunch of other cyclists. A great place to relax in nature

Fabulous Resource

By Thomas V |

There is so much here from the botanical gardens to the museum. But is is also a huge park serving a very populous area. Extremely well-maintained.

A favorite park in NYC

By MaxT7 |

Prospect Park is our favorite park in NYC and in Brooklyn. Its very different than Central Park. Both are worth a visit and both are designed by rederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux. Prospect Park is more relaxed and one can find areas where one is in full on nature. Central Park is more manicured and less chill but very beautiful too. Worth is to visit both parks when visiting NYC.

Another slice of NY history

By LolliCake |

Well,as a foreigner who sees squirrels as a cute novelty factor,I loved all of the parks I saw because they were full of cute little crazy amusing squirrels, but you know what?maybe I'm wrong and they're vermin. I dunno,i thought it was awesome

Stunning Park

By Emily Brillanti |

If you are in BK you must visit the park. In the summer there are so many activities; movie night, yoga in the park etc. If you have a dog, bring the dog in the morning between 6-9am or from 9pm - 1am. We love coming here for walks and laying out and having picnics in the summer!

Very enjoyable. So much to do and see

By Jubi B |

Prospect park is huge .There is so many options for things you can do with families with young children,as a couple as a group or by yourself there is lake views fishing, family bike rentals, paddle boat rentals and much more

Quiet oasis

By Robert W |

Expansive Prospect Park has plenty of room to stroll, jog, picnic. It has a decent zoo. We visited in December, but there was evidence of many flowering plants so it must be quiet beautiful in warmer weather.

Wonderful park

By BonsterMC |

Lots of space, lots going and and good people watching on a cold-weather Saturday - kids, dogs, games, picnickers, weddings, and so on. Wear comfortable shoes because you will want to walk and see the place. There are bathrooms, which is good, but they stank and were vile c. 4pm when I used one... that is the doing of the park-going public, but could be helped by an additional cleaning if funds were available. But for that, a glorious place.

My local park

By Chaarme |

I love prospect park. It's my go to park since it's very close to my house. The park is HUGE. There's something to every part. You can have picnics, go boating, ice skate, smorgasburg during the summers, children's playground, biking, running, bbqs! If you're in the area it's definitely worth a visit. It's open in the winter time as well and I find it very comforting. You'll see ducks and people fishing even though they shouldnt.

Pretty, Pleasant, and Phenomenal Park!

By Yeleny S |

The hubby and I stayed at an Airbnb two blocks away from Prospect Park and visited the park twice. On our first visit we had to kill time until our Airbnb was ready so we were able to visit the majority of the park. Although we were jet lagged we made the most of the views and experience. It’s a massive park with plenty to offer for those who visit. The first morning we went (on a Monday) there were dogs everywhere off leash enjoying each other’s company, the grass, and the river. It was a spectacular sight! We visited the Prospect Park Zoo too. The second time we went (on a Wednesday) we walked through and around to get to the Botanical Garden and Museum. The park is pretty, pleasant, and phenomenal. Definitely one of my favorite Brooklyn visit memories!

Beautiful!

By MissTibs |

Lovely place to visit with family, friends and your pets.
Lots of fun things to do....... you will never be bored! It was nice to see all the different types of dogs all dressed up and walking with their owners. I will visit again on my next visit.

Wonderful place

By Ariella |

I love going there. It's beautiful and has many options on how to walk through it. There's a huge field for picnics and a lake.

Oasis in the city.

By Kelley L |

Have been coming here for 20+ years with husband to visit family. Very safe, active area for families or on your own either biking, walking, running, fishing, or just relaxing and picnicking. Always came with the kids and now just take a run around the park on the 3.5 mile route. Always feel safe. Different areas to enjoy by water or up on a hill, in the dog park area or on the big open fields.

Wonderful wonderful place.

By Ariella |

I've gone there a bunch of times. Wonderful place to go solo, with children, friends, or just about anyone. There's playgrounds and natural playgrounds for children, a bike path, a lake. There are many beautiful rolling hills, and much much more!!

Prospect Park

By Fleetwoodmac9 |

Brooklyn's version of Central Park. Go to the pond and see lots of interesting birds and other wildlife.

Concert - Outstanding Venue

By solabares |

We saw a concert here, at dusk, among the beautiful trees and illuminated art glass sculpture. Ideal. Few places can compare for seeing live music in a relaxed environment.

You can bring in chairs, blankets, and food, so it's a real picnic scene. They sell some food and good beers.

A stroll in the park

By Russ1470 |

A great place to come and stroll, sit, relax and picnic. We got the subway down from Williamsburg which took about 30 minutes.

Great walk

By khangya |

We made an amazing walk in the Prospect Park which did not let us down. Beautiful area to chill, play kite, jog or simply walk.

Take the Q train to prospect park

By ?!’ |

The Q goes to the skating rink “lakeside” of prospect park. This is the zoo and botanical garden side of the park as well. There are many small restaurants on Flatbush Avenue just off of Lincoln road nearby. It’s near the meadow called the neathermead. Before 9 am there is off leash time for dogs which is quite a sight on weekends. You can also take the Q train to Coney Island. From the woody park to the ocean is only a 30 minute trip. Park slope is on the opposite side of the park and closer to the long meadow. Just look for two boulders marking the path from the center road, past the waterfall, dog beach and the ball fields to get to 9th street in park slope. Happy strolling adventure.

I'm biased

By CarmenSandiego2012 |

But this is my favorite park in the city. It helps that I lived 6 blocks from it for most of my life, but it's a great park, lots of nooks and crannies to explore (with someone else, even during the day!). There is a small zoo, a pond where you can paddle boat, roller skating (ice skating in the winter). Botanical gardens are nearby. Great place for picnic/bbqs and I frequent it for runs.

Great for as Picnic and to Walk Around

By nick w |

A very good-sized park with lots of space to walk around and enjoy. A mixture of meadow and woodland areas and a large lake. There is space set aside for wildlife and more amenity spaces. Cafe and toilets in the park as well as BBQ pits. Very popular park that is easy to access via the metro There is also a weekend market.

Great park for walking

By Brendan_H01 |

Every time we cone to NYC we make sure to take a long walk in Prospect Prk. I actually prefer it to central park in terms of feeling like you are away from the city.

Saturday Morning Stroll With My 4-legged Companion

By David B |

We walked through The Farmers Mkt to get some delicious apple cider donuts, then my wife and 3 y o went into the Brooklyn Library at The Grand Army Plaza. I took my boxer into the park to walk the large loop around the perimeter of the park.

The park banned cars last year so it’s a lot safer on the main roads. I let my boxer run for 5 min., while it only goes to 9am was well past the leash law, but other dogs were off leash too.

There is a lot more to do in the park once the weather is perfect for longer walks or picnics.

Beautiful park that feels almost secluded from the city

By Jennie H |

Beautiful park designed by the same landscape architect who designed Central Park in Manhattan. Foliage is designed to have color at all times of year. Beautiful pond with swans, ducks, and geese. Ice skating rinks, both covered and uncovered, along with baseball fields, tennis courts, and soccer fields for those interested in recreational sports.

Spring Walk through the Park

By Alexandra C |

We stayed near the lower end of the park and walked through the entire length of it to get to the Brooklyn Museum. It is a lively park on weekends, with a charity run, BBQs, and live concerts going on throughout all at the same time. The one washroom I stopped in was clean and also very eco-conscious, with signage about using the composting toilets. The park was very clean, we also enjoyed seeing different types of ducks and turtles in the ponds. It was a great taste of spring that day for us, coming from Toronto.

A beautiful oasis

By 157henk157 |

You would not expect this in Brooklyn, but we spend part of our fourth of July here and it is a fantastic park, not busy at all, but just enough people to make it interesting. Had we had our own barbecue, we could have easily spend the whole day here.

Off leash before 9am

By ?!’ |

If you want to meet New Yorkers at their happiest come to the long meadow or neathermead which are fields in prospect park between 7am and 9am when they let their happy dogs play off leash. The first Saturday of the month Fido Brooklyn meets outside of the picnic house on the long meadow. Dogs also swim at the dog beach and at the lake on the peninsula. The peninsula is near the new bathroom at the top of breeze hill.

Good fair

By lag2016 |

Love this park. Quiet and family oriented. Great walking paths. Much larger than I would have expected.

Prospect park

By Lenny D |

Prospect park is a mini Central park, but with a local charm. Parking is difficult but
the subway is available. The west side of the park has a few (but good ) restaurants. Try not to hang out on the south side, it can get a bit dangerous as it gets dark.
When the leaves start to change color, prospect Park is beautiful. Keep in mind that the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens is next door. Don't bother going to the Zoo. It is very limited in sections of animals to see.

Better than Central Park

By Valenomiya |

The perfect park for relaxing, picnic, tossing a Frisbee, interesting nature, cool status, there's a nice little hill you can climb. You can do paddle boats, work out, walk your dog, just a wonderful place to share with your love ones or by your own reading a book. During the winter there is a Ice skating ring. You will love it!

a true Godsend!

The vision Olmstead, et al. had to create this! Terrific to pass through each and every part of it noticing all the different sources of pleasure it offers to so many. love love love it!

Prospect Park Brooklyn - New York's best kept secret

By andy5sal@msn.com |

Prospect Park Brooklyn - still the best kept secret in New York City. Built by the same designers who built Central Park in Manhattan, the park begins at the Grand Army Plaza Civil War monument across from the main library in Brooklyn. The 3-1/2 mile road makes a great track for bikers and runners especially because of the long downhill on one side and the almost half mile uphill on the other side. Beautiful rolling hills, magnificent lake, huge Long Meadow, various tunnels, ravines, playgrounds, etc., throughout the park. Every season has its proponents - in the winter after a big snow children excitedly sled down the magnificent hills and in the summer the green grass, majestic trees, and countless benches are frequented by picnickers, ballplayers, vacationers and locals. Every New Year's Eve fireworks are displayed in the big meadow area. I'm an environmentalist, and I appreciate how well the park has been maintained after all these years. Prospect Park, New York's best kept secret!

SUNDAY AFTERNOON

Great park an oasis in Brooklyn! The walking paths were awesome. The Smorgasbord was delicious! Great lobster roll and banana pudding!

We love to visit parks when we travel, and this one was fantastic. Absolutely gorgeous, lots to do and plenty of places to walk.

Bucolic masterpiece in the heart of Brooklyn

By grahambyrnes |

Don't miss a visit to Prospect Park, it is excellent in every way. There are many paths and byways to follow as you make your way through and around the park. You have to see it in person to appreciate its charms. You'll feel a million miles from the city as you wander through this much appreciated city landmark. Those that live nearby, and can access its beauty on a regular basis, are indeed fortunate. Easy to get to, hard to leave.

Great park

By Lilly062 |

Hop on a subway or walk to it, it is well worth visiting. November with its beautiful colours is a great time to visit and walk through the leaves and feel like a kid again.

A Gem of a Park

By Thomas V |

A very large park in the center of Brooklyn with all sorts of attractions including the great Botanical Gardens, a zoo, lots of playing fields, places to hike and picnic. All with the city all around it, and served by the subway. A true gem.

Beautiful park!

By Jack |

Prospect Park is one of the best parks in the city! First off, it is huge and there are plenty of things to see and do there. There is the zoo, the botanical garden, the streams, ponds, and the lake, the lawns, the villa, the many walkways and bikeways, and the many statues and monuments. Overall, Prospect park has it all and it is a great place to do any sort of exercise as well as just to relax on a nice day. I highly recommend!

Walk and enjoy - natural and not overgroomed

By Eve A |

Brooklyn is a great place to visit and this park is a pleasure to find and walk through. I especially liked it not being manicured - felt real and like the country rather than in the midst of a big city.

Brooklyn's central park

By Leonhkny |

This is Brooklyn's major park. Although lacking the fame and popularity of its Manhattan counterpart, Prospect Park is still a lovely place to escape the urban bust. A stroll by the lake is a leisure pastime in weekends.

Thanksgiving vacation

Very nice park. Good for a stroll, great for a run. Tennis center is very busy. Call ahead. Lots of soccer fields. Wooded and open fields. Police station inside the park. I️ felt very safe.

Prospect park is a great place for concerts , picnics and romantic evenings out and family time ..I love it ..it’s the place where my husband propose and where we went again for our 1 year wedding anniversary..always a lot to to in prospect in the warm months especially

Cycling

By BKNY201 |

I always loved cycling here. Whether it was for training to get better in cycling or for a leisure ride. They have free concerts in the summer! You can run, walk, play volleyball, cycling or just hangout with friends while bbqing. It’s a chill place to be. The fall season is beautiful

Nice Time at Prospect Park

By deb752 |

I grew up in Brooklyn, so it was nice to go back to see Prospect Park. It's still a beautiful place--you walk off city streets and find yourself in a green outdoor space. You can walk around all day, I guess; there are benches to sit and relax, or you can relax on the lawn. People watching is fun. Just a very nice spot when you want a change from the city.

A breath of fresh air and tree space in Brooklyn

By HILLYvonnerich |

Great for a stroll and relaxation away from Manhattan bustle. There are small fields and walkways plus landscaped areas.

March maybe not best time to visit

By mooboo9 |

Not very pretty on March but imagine it’s nicer in the spring/summer. Saw a man hiding his alcohol but clearly drunk roaming around. He wasn’t the only one we saw as we wandered around. Popular with Dog walkers. Not much to see really

The great park in NYC

By Grumo |

What’s special about the park is the elegance of the design and the easy spirit of those in the park. Prospect Park has an elegant long meadow when you enter from Grand Army Plaza. There are lots of groups of friends and large family picnics and barbecues. It is delightful to watch children’s activities on weekends. A good 3 1/4 mike loop for walking or bike riding. Numbers of Citi Bike stations on the northern end of the park. On weekends and all week in the summer you can rent four seater biking carriages as well as funky bikes by the ice skating rink. Even when the rink is out of season there are fun activities for families. Saturdays and Sundays when dogs can be off leash before 9 a.m. it is a delightful to see scores of dogs running freely and playfully.

You really get the feeling that Prospect Park is a family and a community park, with all the communities that it abuts.

An oasis

By Dansker58 |

Beautiful park with lots of people biking, picnicking and relaxing. Nice lake with boat rentals. Peaceful paths to get around. Even has a splash park for kids!

For a change of pace from the iconic Central Park, we went to Brooklyn and checked out Prospect Park. This park is amazing. So many lawns and trees. Lots of space. There’s a lake. Boat and bike rentals. Worth the trek. Beautiful

fishing in the park 🎣

By the teach |

two novices went out to practice our hand at fly fishing.
The park itself was beautiful but hard to find a good clearance with enuff room to cast a fly.
It was a beautiful day, nice walk but lost a bunch of flies tangled in overhanging trees

Great day out

By tanagogo1 |

We came along to Smorgasburg for a leisurely lunch and then walked around the park. The teenagers hired a double bike and we let them off around the park. Slow service to hire, but they loved the ride. For us a lovely walk around the lake.

Love it each time

By Avner S |

A lovely park that is changing with the season.
On Saturday a nice farmers market with flowers, vegetables and fruits, dairy products and bakery items.
Walking in the park is pleasant, discovering hidden gems.

Enjoyed our walk through this park

By FLBFive |

What brought us here was the zoo, then walked through this beautiful park to get to Smorgasburg. Walkers, Runners, Bikers, plenty of open areas to play. Well maintained. Would definitely revisit and recommend.

Came for a Visit

By Raerae_Travels |

There's a tree planted here for one of my favorite musicians, Peter Steele. I came to find it while visiting. I found Prospect Park to be beautiful, even though it rained on and off that day. Overall its a great place to wander, jog, bring the kids or visit the zoo and Botanical Garden (which is free with the NY Pass card).

A gorgeous green park!

By Madhupotter |

We fell in love with this park- so so green, with families picnicking, playing baseball, ample space for runners and of course lots of dogs frolicking across the grass, this place is like a slice of heaven. Oh they even have a dog pool for dogs to swim in- trust me, its one of the happiest things I have ever seen! Spend a good two hours here walking around, or having a sandwich-you will love it!

Park poorly maintained

By invyfossil |

After visiting the Brooklyn Museum, we decided to visit Prospect Park which is within walking distance to it.
The park established since 1867, has lots of grand old trees, several statues of musician/composer, and a splash pool that operates during summer periods.
It was most disappointing to see the park was poorly maintained. The place littered with empty plastic bottles and other general non-degradable wastes, and the absence of regular waste collection round the place is apparent. Furthermore, structural maintenance may be appears to be non-existing. What a let-down for a historical parkland that claimed to have a turn over of over 8 million visitors annually. Not impressed at all of the park management standard.

Serious nature in the middle of the city

By NoKillMag |

Love this place. Wander away from the main area and you can see the red-tailed hawk, blue herons and other amazing birds. I never was much of a bird watcher but I can't help but notice them here. It's also truly a neighborhood park -I mean a BIG neighborhood LOL but full of actual New Yorkers as opposed to Central Park which is mostly tourists at this point. So if you want to relax with the real locals go here.

Green Space!

By SuperTed19 |

It’s a park. There is a lot of space to be at somewhat removed from the noise of the city. It does, however, feel a bit neglected and overgrown.

A beautiful urban oasis

By Howard B |

Everyone says Central Park is the best in NY, and maybe it is. But as a native NYC expat (to San Diego) and frequent family visitor, this gem may be even better! It is huge and has much variety, inclluding a beuatful botanic garden, open fields, forested ares, water features, you name it. Best time to go is early April through early June, when the weather is beautiful and the trees are blossoming and fragrant and the flowers and plants are at their peak. You can jog, run, bike or simply take a relaxing stroll and soak in the peace and beauty. Yes a "tree grows in Brooklyn", or in this place, millions of them!

Celebrate Brooklyn and Other Activities

By tswithers2019 |

I love this park. It is a nice place for a barbecue. There are concerts all summer and they often have other activities. I basically spend the entire summer here at free concerts.

Great park in a great area

By tntaglia |

We stayed in Park Slope during a tourist visit to NY and visited the park daily - beautiful, green, well maintained. There were concerts in the park almost every night (this was in July) and it was never very busy, easy to find a space to sit and relax or have a long walk or run.

Disappointed

By Carol J |

A large poorly kept park .
Major lack of cleanliness, benches to sit and trails with debris.
I was very disappointed as I had read so much about the park

Relaxing green space in busy Brooklyn

By gorlinjay |

A baby sister to Central Park with quiet spots , water views and good for watching birds. Nice walks and playgrounds. Not a trip special from the city but worth a stroll if you visit the art museum.

Bike ride

By Roberto |

Very large park, nice to enjoi by bike or on feet. Great also for a pic nice or for any outdoor activity with the family.

Prospect Park

By Flier22 |

Beautiful natural park filled with wildlife and far less people than one would expect. Large open meadows for frisbee games and gatherings, a dog beach at a small lake, boating, waterfalls, meandering paths, the Audubon Center... just go and recover from the pace of the city.

NYE 2018 Great Fireworks

By mjward74 |

A spectacular show of fireworks to celebrate arrival of 2018.

Free to enter and not overly crowded. Mainly attended by Brooklyn locals.

Beautiful Park

By neilb119 |

Prospect Park was designed by the same people who designed Central Park in Manhattan. While there are similarities, each has its on distinctive features. Over the years the Park has become much safer but they need to patrol the walking paths that are off the beaten path more often and put out more trash/recycling areas in the summer
There are many things to do at the park including winter skating, a zoo and a great area to run your dog.

I walk through the Park about once a week. On weekends many families, especially Latino families, have huge family cookouts that fill the park with music, aromatic smells from the grills and ad hoc volleyball courts.

Nature in the City

By Maya B |

You get a feeling of nature even though you are in the heart of the city. Make sure you visit the Prospect Park Zoo which has been updated to give the animals a more natural enviroment.

The perfect pick-nick spot

By aka_Beller |

Designed by the same people as the CP, you can tell, but perfected they say. It's wilder than the Central but I found it more intimate, more natural. Lovely for pick-nick, lots of people seem to agree.

Prospet Park

The actual park is ok when you get inside. However, Flatbush and the surrounding areas are scary and dont seem very safe.

Rolling hills = a nice run........Enjoy!!

Always a Pleasant Break

By HaroldHecuba |

I don't think Prospect Park is someplace so incredible that a tourist should go out of his or her way to visit. However, I do think that it's a terrific place to go and relax in if you live or work in the area. And over the years I've seen some good shows there - Bob Dylan, Nick Cave, Lou Reed....

Love it, so peaceful!

By Scubachick59 |

Always enjoy walking around this park and going to the zoo. It's not very big, but it is lovely. Been visiting since my children were little

Fine place for recreation in the heart of Brooklyn

By Jeffry b |

We stayed in Park Slope and walked up to Propsect Park. It's an island of green in a busy city. Surprisingly enough, there are few places in NYC to throw a Frisbee, which was what a group of young people were doing. The park is 526 acres (213 ha). Apart from the wetlands, the indigenous forest is charming. The band-shell, carousel and ice-rink are useful. Some 8 million people visit Prospect Park each year. Propsct Park is dog-friendly, but at the moment all dogs must be on-leash. Prospect Park has that rare thing in NYC -- publc open space.

What a wonderful place

By 54Ann77 |

Spent the afternoon in the peace and tranquillity of Prospect Park, took a beautiful walks around the lake. Not as crowed or busy as Central Park but just as beautiful. The autum colors were just starting to appear when we’re visited. Although a long way out of the city well worth a visit.

Huge, varied park

By Linda B |

Prospect park is huge -- about the size of Central Park in Manhattan I believe. There are many separate areas within it -- kids' play areas, kids' activity areas, playing fields, open areas, woods, etc. Adjacent or nearby are the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, the Prospect Park Zoo ( small, ideal for little kids), and the Brooklyn Art Museum.

Beautiful

By ljbmd |

Spent a sunny afternoon reading in the beautiful park, and ran here 6 times during our visit to Brooklyn
Loved seeing the Squirrels! The park was busy but didn’t feel crowded- lots of sport and families on the weekends... no where near as commercial as Central Park.
The running and cycling track is well maintained and roomy, about 5.5km to do the loop.
Bonus to see the dog ‘beach’ , where lots of dogs happily played in the water and with each other- funny to watch

A gem of Brooklyn

By Robert C |

The kind of place you'd think only Brooklynites would know about, an oasis, lovely park and lake. There is also an 18th century Dutch farm house that is worth a visit.

Amazing park

By USCKaboom |

Prospect Park in some ways is better than Central. Actual park rather than made. It has rolling fields and plenty of trees for shade. Lots to do and see.

Gorgeous amble through a wonderful community resource

By Beckie D |

Prospect Park is an amazing community resource with kilometres of easy walking through a variety of interesting vistas, including lakes, hills, meadows, playgrounds and don't forget the zoo abd botanic gardens. A fabulous park to wander, people and squirrel-watch, and soak up those Brooklyn vibes. Take snacks and water!

Lovely park in Brooklyn

By seema60 |

We went for a walk to this lovely park in Brooklyn. Lots of green areas even on this cold day. They have plenty of paths to cycle around or walk or run. There was a cute farmers market today. We walked up the steps to the highest point before coming down to the lake. We saw the skating rink. There were lots of people enjoying the sunny day though it was quite cold. It is a beautiful park.

Country in the heart of Brooklyn

By brooklyngirl2018 |

Prospect Park is a great place to walk or run on roads closed to traffic. Walking around the lake, you feel like you're out in the country, with lots of beautiful trees & flowers along the path. The only downside is the number of homeless people inhabiting the park. But the park is easy to get to, and is walking distance to the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Botanical gardens, & of course, the Prospect Park Zoo. Worth the trip.

Great urban space

By Dave S |

I utilized the running loop, which had excellent separation for safety for pedestrians and bikers. Good amount of water fountains and many wide green expanses that you wouldn't expect for sprawling NYC. Visited mid-day and the number of people around felt like a comfortable range, but I can imagine that at peak times it may be difficult to avoid the crowds on a nice day or a weekend!

Mini Central Park in Brooklyn!

By Mary L |

Prospect Park is HUGE and so many serene areas to walk, meditate, do yoga, ride or skate. There's actually a waterfall too somewhere in the center of the park. I've seen it, but only once. It's really a beautiful park...a great place to have a picnic solo, 1st date or with the family.

Peaceful

By NYSightCr |

Over many years, this is a place I have spent many hours walking, running and horseback riding. The perfect oasis in a busy city life. It is a favorite place to share with out-of-towners.

Like Central Park but a little smaller and more local (so more quiet)

By Ted W |

When visiting Brooklyn Prospect Park is a nice and quiet place in the center. It's a little like Central Park but more quiet and more local (less tourists). Just sit on one of the benches and enjoy the weather, the people, the nature and relax a bit.

Was staying in a relative's apartment which happened to be really close to the Prospect Park and as a bird lover, walked over there three times to look for birds. Unfortunately, it was not the right time of the year so not too many species were sighted, although I still saw northern yellow shafted flicker, red bellied woodpecker, northern cardinal, Cooper's hawk, Baltimore oriole, Eastern Kingbird, warbling vireo, gray catbird and plenty of American robins. Now I know that the best time for birding here would be spring and the fall, I will definitely be back. This Park is over 500 acres, said to be designed by the same professionals who did the Central Park in Manhattan. There are lots of trails to walk, bike and even horse ride plus plenty of activities like baseball, soccer and even open air concert. There is also a Samuel J. and Ethel LeFrak Centre for ice and roller skating, and boating. There is a lake inside the Park where one might see some water birds like Canada goose, American Black duck, coots and then there were small ponds of water reserved for dog lovers to set their dogs free for a bath. Seen plenty of students having activities in the fields during my three days. Bring water and if the weather is not stable an umbrella or a raincoat as there are not many places for rain shelter. Other than birds, look out for small animals like racoons, squirrels and chipmunks. A great place to spend at least a couple of hours.

The best time I’ve ever had at the Zoo

By Ashlee M |

This was a really great experience, the zoo was very interactive which made for a lot of fun. Would definitely recommend and visit again.

Exercise and picnics

Family outings, picnics, and exercising allowed. Free concerts from BRIC in the summer. Housing options around range from historic and modern.

Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and Prospect Park Zoo - Wow!

By JoyChristena |

What a pleasure to walk through both the beautiful Brooklyn Botanical Gardens in Prospect Park and the lovely natural paths in the Prospect Park Zoo. The Botanical Gardens has many beautiful areas with trees, bushes, shrubbery, flowers, fountains, green houses, and more. The green house is filled with lush greenery, trees, and flowers and is a special and great treat to walk through. The entrance to the Botanical Gardens is at 455 Flatbush Ave. The address is 990 Washington Ave. Admission is $15. for adults and $8. for seniors. It covers 52 acres. The Zoo has many wooded trails with unusual and exotic animals in a natural setting. The Prospect Park Zoo is home to 864 animals of more than 176 species. It covers 12 acres and is located off Flatbush Ave. on the eastern side of Propect Park.

Don't miss out on these fascinating and fun walks through the lovely Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and the Zoo At Prospect Park. All of Prospect Park is fabulous, so add a walk by the Prospect Park Lake and visit the great rink they have for roller skating or ice skating.

Pleasant surprise

By Bumpa |

First visit to park. Took 4 & 7 yr old grands. Lots of space to ride scooters and bikes. Awesome playground. Will return!

Beware

By Rebecanewyork |

Beware a lot of pot smokers and at night I didn’t feel safe. Don’t go alone specially if you are a woman. Went to a movie under the stars and the people were smoking pot so much that couldn’t stay, very disappointed. A lot of weird people and no security. Should have more security.

Incredible park

By Jen255093 |

There's a farmers market on Saturday mornings which is worth a visit. The park is a haven. Dogs off lead first thing in the morning and they are having so much fun.
Beautiful fields, wooded areas, playgrounds, bike tracks etc. Hire a bike, take a stroll, relax under a tree.

Relaxing

By Amy J |

It is outdoors so if it’s wet dress for the weather. But it is a beautiful park. My Son and his wife were married there several years ago.

Beautiful park!

By Joseph W |

It's a lovely park with small zoo and lake.
Fairly easy to get to. Especially now that the Barclay center is in the area.
If you are a tourist, there's a whole slew of things on your bucket list. But if you do have time and it is a lovely day, it's perfect.

Very pleasant cycling

By Gavatron07 |

Prospect Park is a delightful park to cycle in. It offers sweeping roads and paths that are not as busy as Central Park.

Lots of trees and grassy expanses and other features make it a very pleasant place to spend some time in.

We only had time for a short visit and would definitely visit again if we have the opportunity.

Pretty and peaceful

By simmosu |

We stumbled on this by chance after being shocked at the price of admission to Brooklyn Botanic Garden, so refused to go. It was pretty, centrally located but peaceful. However no toilets to be found anywhere. Those that were signposted were closed. Shame.

Oasis better than Central Park

By Stephanie M |

I fell in love with this park. It’s the people’s park to enjoy no matter who you are, what your level of fitness is or where you are from.
The different vistas and wide range of trees captivated me. A birders paradise to boot.

Great place for a run

By Dingdong29 |

Love running in prospect park. 3.3 mile loop with a couple Challenging hills. So many runners and bikers and great views. Best place to run in Brooklyn.

Beautiful

By AnaLeticiaPro |

Beautiful place in Brooklyn, it was awesome to have contact with nature, the park is well preserved and secure! There’s an old carrossel, also very charming! Nice place to relax or have a family picnic.

Really nice park! Big!

By Daniel O |

This is definitely one of the nicest places to be in Brooklyn, NY. It is huge, hilly in places, has a nice pond and has a bike/jogging path.

We were there for Fleet Week. The military utilized the entire park in scattered areas to display their stuff.

There is only shade in scattered areas.

There is a metro/Subway right next to the park.

Beautiful park even on a cold day in January

By frankhoustonTexas |

So glad I was able to walk around Prospect Park . Highly recommend it. Beautiful park with lots of monuments and statues. Definitely want to be able to return.

Nice.

By ellina520 |

I think it might be the second largest park in NYC. Not as big as Central Park, but its nice as well.

prospect park

By Jonathan C. |

I love that every borough in NYC has their own public park for everyone to enjoy! Prospect Park is spacious with something for everyone - the zoo, library, museums, places for your dog, plenty of room to walk, jog, or have a picnic.

Fun spacious loops to rollerblade

By John D. Lin |

A great spot alternative to central park. Get your exercise in and have more space without the noise and tourists. Try it out once!

Waterfall Hike

By 326ETa |

Came across a water fall hike on a nycgovparks.org email and decided to check it out. This was such a great new way to experience the park. First of all our Park Ranger guides; Chris Wood and Patrick Bailey were phenomenal. Not only do they know their stuff, but they also seemed to genuinely love what they do. I appreciated that so much. They absolutely contributed positively to our experience. The park is beautiful with many nooks and crannies to explore. And, there are many free activities/events available for every age. It’s a perfect way to take a time out from the hustle and bustle of the city.

great day

By TREK39 |

a piece of the country in the middle of the city. Nice lake. Beautiful place to walk bike or just chill

Wonderful wander

By Diana T |

What is there to say? Extraordinary, luxurious green space in the middle of the city! Brooklyn's Central Park (obviously).

Great green space.....fun for all!

By Mike D |

Designed by the same architect as Central Park, Prospect Park is significantly smaller and has a slightly different feel....it is well laid out with los of pathways for runners and cyclists, and plenty of green space to explore

There is a splash park for the kids to play in safely

The park does hold events and is at the tail end of a summer long program of free events.....may be wise to check the schedule

Pleasant setting but needs some TLC!

By MidwestKathM |

After picking up sandwiches from a deli, we were looking for somewhere outdoors to sit and eat. Luckily found a place to park along the southwest side of the park. The park is fenced with entrances every so often, so we walked to the nearest entrance and walked in. Not seeing any benches, and not prepared to sit on the ground, we started walking along a path where there were people and a set of concrete stairs. We found a cleanish spot to sit on rocks along the stairs. It was a pleasant setting on a dry fall day. But nothing super special. Definitely needs some TLC! Had we spent more time in the park, taking in the sites and the amenities, we might discover Prospect Park to be more than average.

Would pick Prospect over Central every time

By hrobinson1114 |

Being from the south, where there is less city and more green, I haven’t been overly impressed with NYC parks. No offense, just nothing like the miles and miles of rolling green space I’m used to at home. From what I understand, most of these places are packed during normal times, but as we are still in the middle of a pandemic, it was not very crowded. I liked Prospect Park better than Central Park. More dirt trails and trails through thickets of trees. Pretty bodies of water full of turtles and ducks, which were fun to watch. While walking through the forest on trails, there were birds and chipmunks everywhere, like a Snow White fairytale. The bridges, tunnels, and the boathouse were beautiful, and made for great photo ops. The roadways were wide and open through the whole park. Central Park has more famous statues, but I think Prospect Park has more personality. It’s also more peaceful with more opportunities to interact with nature. There is also Grand Army Plaza at the main entrance, which is an impressive piece of architecture. I would choose Prospect over Central Park every time.

Amazing place to run or just hang out in brooklyn

By Melissa M |

Stayed in Brooklyn for a month and went for a run most days in Prospect Park. It’s a great place to enjoy the greenery and get some good trail runs in also. Loved it. I also attended the Smorgasbord event on Sundays. It is not to be missed.

The Big Park in Brooklyn

By Thomas V |

What an amazing resource! It's a huge park in the middle of Brooklyn with subway stops all around, so it is easy to get to. It is so big that it has all sorts of activities, ball parks, picnic areas, gardens, forests, hiking areas. So much to see and do and it is so pretty, pretty.

Great outdoor space in a world of concrete

By ejyoung7 |

In Brooklyn for a week, I couldn't help but cross paths with Prospect Park. What started as a stroll ended up as a well spent afternoon exploring the green open spaces and patches of small woods. I was totally delighted by multiple cris-crossing trails which led me nowhere and everywhere. Several locals told me they use the park everyday and it's never gotten old. Try it. You just might find yourself in a good kind of lost.

Beautiful Spacious Park

By ayakua |

Used to live around here and make a point to visit every year. I love it. It is a perfect oasis in Brooklyn. And during the warmer months there are shows and activities.

One of the treasures of Brooklyn

By seanworc |

Prospect Park is a 500+ acre public park in Brooklyn. It is near Prospect -Lefferts Garden, Park Slope, Windsor Terrace, South Slope, Crown Heights, and Prospect Heights neighborhoods. There are many wonderful places to visit-- a zoo, a botanical garden, a cycling course, and ball fields. It has Immense historical significance. The park is built on the grounds of the Battle for Brooklyn during the Revolutionary War. There is a monument to the courageous men of Maryland who gave their lives to protect the retreating Patriots soldiers as the British routed the Patriot troops. Survivors ended up on British prison ships near the current Navy Yard area. For me, a place of solemn remembrance.

Perfect spot in Brooklyn for a relaxing stroll

By Calvin Lai |

First time visiting Prospect Park back in Jane, and I've immediately fell in love of this place. The park is huge and even offers more than what Central Park does (in my view). Whether you are there for bicycling, casual stroll, outdoor cookout with family, or even just a short nap, there are plenty of paths and space for you to do so.

With so many scenic spots located in the park, I truly believe that I'd go there literally every weekend if I ever live in the area.

It's like a perfect spot to visit esp. when it's super nice out during summer time, and it can get pretty crowded in the opened space (still not as crowded as Central Park).

Highly recommend everyone to pay a visit!

Great park

By facebook56 |

Huge trees, great atmosphere, good for relaxing with friends, a hidden gem. Very well laid out yet informal.

Huge park

By James H |

Having seen lots of Central Park, I decided to venture to Prospect Park. I was glad I did. The park had a very local living feel about it with families all around. The park also had lots to see from the Botanic Gardens to the Lefferts Historic House. Ended up lost in the trees and was on limited time-frame to see everything will definitely return.

Loads of space, but little amenities

By Charlotte L |

We went on a scorching day in jeans and tshirts, but enjoyed getting tired out. Really beautiful in the sun, and nice to see loads of people using the space for running, kids, dogs and there was even a film crew. Gorgeous scenery, really photogenic place, and plenty of chipmunks running around.
However, would be vastly improved with public toilets available, instead of a couple of portaloos. Would also help to have maps or directions, as we got lost! There is also a fountain area that wasn't working, which would've been a really lovely feature to see, especially in the heat.

Really lovely for a few hours out in good weather.

Peaceful

By Jana S |

This is a nice park. We sat and watched the dogs play. Walked around a bit. Large park. Some hills. Benches for relaxing. Bike and jogging path.

Wow! A great park

By _ssroy1 |

I have to admit that being a native New Yorker for decades, that I never visited Prospect Park. We were initially impresses by the Civil War soldiers Arch outside the entrance. We walked down beautiful paths and meadows. It was like there was no Brooklyn around you. So much to see, you'll need many days to explore.

Pleasant surprise - took a walk from business meeting - ended up in park - nice

By Joe F |

Nice park - close to Brooklyn bridge - great respite for me as I was taking a break from busy conference. Tennis courts, hills to walk - nice

Why travel to Manhattan if you're in Brooklyn?

By MamaBearCharlesworth |

Love the park!!! Always have! Don't need to travel all the way to Manhattan for some beautiful photos :)

Amazing

By Deon W |

Kind of don't want to give it a good rating because I don't want everyone here ruining it. It is an incredible park

Smorgasburg is great!

By ErinKristin |

If you are in the area on the day of a Smorgasburg event, you definitely should try it out! The food is delicious. Just don't forget cash (many places don't take credit cards and at ATM line was very long) or a blanket to sit on because seating is limited. We had the mozzarella sticks, fries, corn on the cob, and ice cream sandwiches. Although this sounds like standard foods, the vendors made their own special twists on them to make them delicious!

Great

By BarbaraT20162016 |

This park is great and big.
Well kept, it is always a good idea even for jogging or for a family picnic.
Really you can do any activity here.
The green is really beautiful.

Beautiful, safe place. The trip in could be different.

By Robert R |

My sister had her wedding here, at the boathouse. It was amazing. Not the easiest place to get to, but worth it if you'll be in the area for a while.

Take a walk and enjoy nature

By lovePinkPeppercorn |

There is lots of part to this park, you can take a stroll and visit the swans and ducks, or take a run along the streets with the cyclist, and dog walkers.

The park has several parts a hidden cemetery, places to watch rare birds, a high point to look out during the fall. winter and spring, or the lawn to sit and have a picnic, areas to BBQ and a beautiful building to celebrate, one birthday, anniversary or wedding.
Be careful because one can get lost in this beautiful peaceful place.

Beautiful autumn foliage

By Maps756939 |

This is a beautiful park, especially during autumn. Many walking paths, even a lake. Dogs everywhere - I love them so it’s always a treat to see them out and about. Just know that many of the dogs are off the leash but I didn’t see an issue with it because most don’t both you (unless you have something tempting in your hand). Definitely a to-do when visiting Brooklyn. There are also Citibikes nearby if want to rent a bike and ride through the park.

Most peaceful part of Brooklyn

By TravelReviewer1983 |

Prospect park is a nice refreshing place to enjoy a relaxing stroll, jog, or cycle in Brooklyn.

It is nicely designed although would like to see the water kept cleaner (has too much rubbish).

A pleasant oasis

By Henry B |

I visit Prospect Park almost every day. In the mornings I ride the bicycle path and later in the day I walk to the lake. It has a variety of terrain and provides a nice complement to the scenic neighborhoods nearby (Park Slope, Prospect Park South, Ditmas Park).

Wilder than central park

By Judith A |

Frederick Olmsted considered Prospect Park in Brooklyn his crowning achievement, ever better than Central Park in Manhattan. Both are glorious places in crowded urban areas. Prospect Park has more wildness in it, areas of thick trees and undergrowth where you can imagine you are far from civilization.

The park also has staturs of famous composers, ice skating rinks where both children and adults can learn to skate, an Audubon society house full of information and activities for all ages, a coffee shop, and who knows how many more hidden treasures we didn't have time to discover during our 4-hour ramble.

Prospect Park, A Great Place To Exercise Or Have An Inexpensive Family Cookout Or Gathering

By James L |

I walk or run in this park everyday for an hour or more. There is something to do for every age group in Prospect. You can cycle, skate, rent a peddle boat, ride horses, practice yoga and just have a great, great time in Prospect Park. Police are in the park at all times sometimes in unmarked cars and clothes. This helps to make the park a safe place for the entire family from birth to 100+. Come and enjoy the clean air of Prospect Park, Brooklyn. It is conveniently located close to the Q, B and Franklin Ave Shuttle.

Winter time but nice

By Neysa C |

I want to go in the spring or fall. Very nice area in Brooklyn. I love parks so this is a good one to see. It was cold when I went so not to much to do. Walk fast. We skipped which was fun. Lol

Parklife

By Steve S |

This park is unreal. Really doesn't feel like you are in the city and there is always something to do there. Ice rink is brilliant in winter and much less pretentious than Manhattan

Riding in Prospect Park

By Marco C |

While spending the weekend in Brooklyn, I brought my road bike to try to get in a workout. Prospect Park was absolutely beautiful. The circuit was well marked and I was able to jump in with some other cyclists exercising as well. The 3+ mile circuit even has a hill that provides a little challenge each time around. What a beautiful jewel in the heart of Brooklyn!

Has a bit of everything

By Mel W |

Prospect Park has a bit of everything for everyone. So many different playgrounds for kids, all with a water feature for hot summer days. Le Frak is a real treasure. Plenty of open fields for your own type of play. Prospect Park is the best!

Great morning run!

By Lin R |

Ran the 5K route during a recent visit to Brooklyn and it was great. Running, biking, and walking lanes clearly demarcated, clean path, pretty flat, surrounded by beautiful trees and foliage. What a way to start the day!

Movies in the Park

By Jax P |

Nice experience. You are in one of the largest parks in one of the most populated cities but movie night feel good liker a smaller town. Singles couples friends & fam eating snacks or dinner enjoying the band & movies. Children activities are available.

A nice scenic stop..in a busy place

By Ayana B |

Prospect park is a good place to relax. For those who love a bit of nature in the midst of a busy place..
There are many activities here in the evening as the place gets cooler then. Dress in something comfortable..and bring a picnic basket. A wonderful spot to stop and chillax ( chill and relax). A nice place to find friends who are into walking and relaxing in nature's cradle.

Mini Central Park

By Stan Tecza |

First time at Prospect Park. Cannot believe how huge it is. Saw the zoo from afar but will need to go back and see it proper. Boathouse and other old historic buildings look interesting. Really reminds me of Central Park. It’s my understanding that it was designed by the same people that designed central park. Super busy. Lots of people picnicking abs enjoying the good weather. Very busy and multicultural area. Good food nearby.

A forest and farmers' market

By varejeira |

A wonderful park, with lots of different areas and small woods to explore. Fewer people than in Central Park and a farmers' market at the entrance make it a good alternative for a Saturday morning.

Enjoyable Park

By Polaroids & Drinkin Stories |

I lucked into a day off while in town for work decided to hoof it on over and wander around Prospect Park. It was a Saturday and there was a nice farmers market out front. Also large area for composting which was nice. I strolled around the whole perimeter of the park. There's plenty of areas to sit and chill. Ball fields, waterviews, benches. It's crowded but there's room to not feel like people are on top of you. Great way to spend some time.

Pretty park

By EllicasMom |

This was a park worth visiting. Bikes were fun and there are tons of activities for kids here. The splash pool is very cool. Roller skating, paddle boats, bike rentals and more. Lots of spaces to play and sun. It isn’t as well kept as Central Park but the layout is similar even though smaller. This was a very nice and lovely park!

Curlfest 2017 was phenomenal!!!

By tynaia2017 |

Attending Curlfest was my sole purpose of visiting Brooklyn. It was an experience like I've never had in my lfe; there's NOTHING like natural Sistas...I will be back next year!!

Beautiful!

By Lisa L |

Vast park with so much to offer. We stumbled on a yoga class with probably 100 participants. Excellent bike trail. Great for walking. Beautiful monuments and statues.

Pleasant enough if you have spare time.

By Dale-icious |

Prospect Park was in need of some care and investment upon our visit, but made for a nice stroll. We were lucky enough to see a wild large bird of prey up close during a walk through woodland.

Highlight of Prospect Park: The creepy looking but full of potential, Lefferts Historic House (there's nothing I adore more than a creepy looking or haunted house, and genuinely hope to own my own one day) - The former home of Continental Army Lieutenant Pieter Lefferts. Now operating as a museum of family life in Brooklyn in the 1820s. Unfortunately, the house was closed when we visited.

You won't be missing anything should you choose not to visit Prospect Park, but pleasant enough if you have spare time.

Surprisingly lovely park!

By shazw23 |

We visited this area to take part in the the Building Brooklyn 5km race and were surprised by how lovely the park was. Very clean and pretty!!

Friendly local people and great environment!

A nice, relaxing park

By MaineGuy777 |

Prospect Park is the Brooklyn companion to Manhattan's Central Park (as it was also designed by Frederick Olmsted). It is relaxing to sit on a bench, watch a baseball game and listen to music from the bandshell, or walk your dog (or even let it swim), or just lie on the grass and watch birds and squirrels.

Pleasant Break!

By Harshita M |

I had gone to Brooklyn for an interview and while checking out things to do after the interview, I chanced on Prospect Park. So we decided to walk through the park. It's big and green. There is enough green cover and water fountains to escape a sunny hot day. the lake is really pretty but quite a bit of it was overrun with algae - I hope they do something about it soon. There is a dog beach in the park as well - it was really fun to watch dogs playing there. At one end of the park is a huge splash pool for kids to play in. There are barbecuing sites all over the park. So overall there is something for every member of the family.

Enjoyed having the park to ourselves

By Travels-4-Fun-Mom |

We took a subway from north Harlem directly to this park on a brisk weekend morning during a Thanksgiving holiday trip to NYC. The park was empty, it was very autumnal, but still lovely. My family of five enjoyed the stroll especially through the Japanese garden.

One of my favorite places to be in Brooklyn

By Nina C |

I love Prospect Park. It's beautiful! From bike riding to picnicking to just sitting under a tree with a good book or strolling through and breathing in the lush - this park is always a mood booster and a great time. It's so big, so you can come back many times and still have many areas to explore. Bring your family and friends and have a picnic. One of my favorite spots for that is by the picnic house. There are tables in the shade, tables in the sun, you can BBQ, and have a great time. By the boat house on the other side, you can be by a nice little pond, but beware of mosquitoes. Prospect Park is great for exercising out in the fresh air, so bring your bike, roller blades, sneakers, etc. Enjoy!

Nice walk with relaxing atmospeher

By Erika Š |

As its still winter, park was quite empty, and we only met few people (with dogs, runners, kids). So ideal place to have a walk, breath fresh air and clear your mind.
Close is also zoo and botanical garden, but due to weather we skip it.
Anyway it was a great time here! 😊

Biking trought the park is awsome :)

By Tallian G |

This park is so awsome to biking there.... Beautiful great kept park with full of life. Smaler than Central park and it is different because of the many hidden path.
There is a lot of possibilities to relax after a running week. Lot of bikers - slow and fat drive path - and many playgrounds for children.

Relaxing and Tidy Park

By sarahrawlings89 |

We wondered through Prospect Park for a few hours, it's lovely and clean and perfect for a picnic and a relax. Lots of different things to see around the park and not too busy when we went, would pass through again.

Well, it's no Stanley Park

By William C |

If you didn't have this in Brooklyn then it doesn't have anything.
I took a really nice walk to the park on the day of the Brooklyn Marathon ( which I would have won in my younger days.. but I digress)
It's your run of the mill city park with a big lake, trails and meadows. Believe me I needed it after traipsing around the concrete jungle that is the rest of Brooklyn in the few days before.
It's a great place ( indeed I think the only place) to go for a run or ride your bike.
I took a side trip to Lookout Hill but I got a bit nervous as no one else was around. It was a fool's errand because there was really nothing to see from the viewpoint ( back home we got the Northshore Mountains and the Pacific Ocean!)
So my need for green was satisfied, I certainly wouldn't make it a must do destination for Brooklyn but it does give you a break from row upon row of ugly buildings.

The designers of Central Park upped their game with Prospect Park

By Richard T |

Prospect Park is a beautiful oasis in the heart of Brooklyn, enjoyed by young and old and everyone in between. Groups picnic and barbecue throughout the park. People jog, walk, and bike. They sunbathe, read, meditate and chill in the park. They take in beautiful vistas of lakes, meadows, woods, and gardens. They enjoy the Prospect Park Bandshell, NYC's premier public performance venue accommodating thousands of concerts goers throughout the summer. The NY Philharmonic performs symphonies in the park. Families go to the Prospect Park zoo. Kids and adults play baseball at the ball fields and folks play soccer too.
Prospect Park is enjoyed by hundreds of thousands each year. Go and see for yourself what a wonder public park this is.

A Brooklyn must see

By Kit C |

If you are visiting Brooklyn, the park should be on your list of sites to see. It's large, so expect to spend a few hours hours exploring! Paddling boats, statues of various design, swans, open spaces and enclosed hidden gems. There is so much to see and do, a different element to explore around each corner.

Quite large and wonderful to experience

By PuzzleSolver855 |

We stayed just on the south end of the playground (also the soccer fields) and then walked it up to the Army memorial statues one day. It was so nice that I didn't care that the carousel was not open that a couple of other buildings were closed. I could see it had a lot of bicyclists, walkers, stroller parents, etc. What other park has a section where you can light up grills? In the evenings we saw extended families enjoying the sunlight until the last possible moment. The Brooklyn library is at the top and had a stunning exterior. It is safe and wonderful to experience this space in a very densely populated area. Well done! PS we also visited the zoo

Huge, couldn't see it all.

By Amber S |

It seems like there's a ton of stuff to do in this park. I only got to see a few running, biking and horse trails (also, there are horses in Brooklyn apparently!) and a massive lawn. The leaves were changing which is always great. There's a zoo too! We spent about 45 minutes traveling South to North in the park and only saw a sliver of what it has to offer. It could probably take days on foot to see it all. Looks like a fantastic place to cycle with elevated routes. Can't wait to visit the rest.

truly meditative! perfect for a walk and picnic

By Ann H |

Really love this space, makes you forget you're in Brooklyn. So peaceful and quiet and I did a meditative walking tour with a friend and it was a great way to relax at the end of the day. So much history in this space as well, wouldn't know by just walking around myself. Lots of fun people watching! Go for a picnic in the long meadow!

Central Park of Brooklyn

By tahirina k |

This park is beautiful and preserved so well. Love taking strolls and attending random events that take place during the year.

This is a place where you can relax with friends or family having a picnic or party.

By B.C.QAGELA |

The beauty of this park is that it has a lot of play ground for kids and adults, those who want to jog around a 5 kilometer track can do so along demarcated trails designed for joggers, there is also trails for cycling around the park, a beautiful place indeed.

A beautiful local spot!

By Patsy24248 |

This park is such a gem in downtown Brooklyn. I've only visited at weekends when there are no cars so it is idyllic for walking and cycling, with dogs, children in tow. There is a dog beach, children's water park, spots to get food, dog-off-leash areas, quiet areas. On Saturdays the farmers market takes place and it is full of delicious, fresh goodies such as fruit and veg of all sorts, cheeses, fish, pork, breads, pastries.Hours can be spent there no trouble!

Fun place to visit

By Maps208674 |

Great getaway from the everyday grind. From tikes to bikes to puppies running around. A great place to relax and unwind.

The Borough's Park

By Thomas V |

This is an enormous park in the center of this very densely-developed borough. Lots to see and do here, but especially enjoy the green space. Take a long walk and view the landscaping. Leaves were turning on our visit.

Family place

We walked the park twice during our family vacation. Our 22 months old daugther enjoyed the 3rd street playground as well as the small but well-kept Prospect Park Zoo. There is a lot going on in the park: people running, pöayong ball games, walking their dogs, celebrating parties. What I missed was public toilets, there are too few of them

Wild Oasis in the Heart of Brooklyn

Early mornings in a rainstorm and a sunny, afternoon traipse through the wilds of this amazing, large park with mature trees, rolling terrain and surprising niches to get lost in.
Felt very safe and not too many people at the times I was there. Amazing design!

Awsome Park!

Great place to ride your bike on a weekend.
Great band she’ll on prospect park south west
Beautiful park to have a nice stroll or a picnic.

In the Heights! Brooklyn that is.

You can’t be in Brooklyn and not visit Prospect Park. The market on Saturdays, the bycicle routes, the many paths to walk around and enjoy the scenery and people watching! The prospect zoo for kids, it’s small but children will love it. Love the park and discover something new every time I am at the park. While at the park remember Brooklyn Museum and the Botanical Garden are not too far away if you want have a very tiring day of visiting the vicinity. Easy to get there by subway.

Lovely park

What a great park right in Brooklyn. We hired a bike and rode across from one end to the other and it was really lovely. Also walked through a few times. Lots of little tracks to wander - and get lost! Great idea how tge road is divided up for fast cyclists, slow cyclists, runners and walkers

Tons of activities here

This is a huge, beautiful park filled with a variety of activities. From the carousel to the zoo, to the walking/biking paths and the open spaces, there's something for everyone. Set right in the middle of Brooklyn, it's a great way to escape the city into nature for a while.

Just a walk in the park for a runner!

By Seamus Murphy |

This is a fabulous park. Almost a mini Central Park. It has lots of paths that meander through woods and open areas. There is a dedicated lane for serious runners, joggers, walkers and cyclist.
Beware of cross park vehicles, Rangers,NYPD, delivery vehicles and so on. Vehicles drive very slowly and have hazard lights on. On my run I ran out of water due to the humidity. The good thing was that the park has loads of water fountains.
For dog walkers they rope off certain lakes/ponds so they can have a drink or cool their heels. Everyone was friendly and helpful desplte the humidity which was high for a visitor from Ireland.
There were marvellous playgrounds for kids and music festivals appear quite often I was informed. There are loafs of entrances into the park. Well worth a visit.

Lovely

They do not have parks like this in TEXAS. This was a beautiful place. We had gone to a little restaurant that was pick up only and we walked over to the park to eat. it was shaded and well kept. I LOVED IT

One of the best parks in NYC and the best park in Brooklyn. It is like a mini Central Park. Spend some time here on a nice day!

Beautiful and huge city park

A beautiful, huge and well-kept city park with areas where you can walk, run and do various sports. There is also a pond where all the dogs go to bathe. Inside there is also the Prospect Park Zoo which I absolutely recommend visiting for families with children!

The pride of the city of Brookline !

This beautiful park is the blessings of the forefathers of the city who had 5he vision and the dream for the generations . The bewitching Landscspe is spread over such area that it requires more then a day to really enjoy . The rolling green manicured lawns , the the tall trees create a magic . The best time is early morning in summer or the midday in winter to see and experience the beauty of his park . No entree fee . The nearby Botanic garden too is walking distance from here . Brooklyn library too is close by from the Grand zarmy aPlaza . There is farmers market every Saturday starting at 8am until noon . This park is a walkers paradise .

Brooklyn's Beauty, Bottled and Branded...

By Brian M |

It wasn't until this last visit to Prospect Park that it came out from under the shadow of what I consider its big brother (older cousin, maybe?): New York City's Central Park.
There's something about a crisp fall day, sunny and bright, before the leaves change, that makes Prospect Park magical. This time it was like walking through the countryside. When I went the last time, it seemed less well kept.
There is a lot to see in Prospect Park: the ponds, picnic spots, the pageantry of nature. There's the Carousel, Long Meadow, the zoo...there's just so much. You'll probably need more than a day to cover it all. I can only imagine what autumn, in all its kaleidoscopic glory, is like in Prospect Park.
Put it this way: if you're in Brooklyn and thinking about visiting this park, prepare to be delighted.

So much more manageable than Central Park

By Janet |

With a new ice skating rink (actually, two), a 3.33 mile loop roadway, and a zoo, this park has enough to offer for a full day's trip. There are bike rentals available during warmer weather, when there's no skating, and in the summer there are frequent almost-free concerts.
For the naturalist, there are woods and a variety of birds.
Unlike Central Park, Prospect Park isn't crazy crowded.

What a nice oasis in a busy place

By Navarro Canoe Co. |

We enjoyed walking through this park very much. We certainly did not see it all, as it it very large, but we took some very enjoyable walking paths and felt refreshed just to be outside. It is a little challenging to figure out where things are in the park, so be sure to grab a paper copy of a map or find one on-line. We did not see much signage or displayed maps as we wandered through the park, but it is definitely a lovely outdoor spot.

An escape to nature in the middle of Brooklyn

By CK11397 |

Prospect Park is definitely an underrated destination among my friend! Year round it is an excellent place to go for many different activities. Numerous paths go around the park to view all the different areas of scenery. It is one of my favorite places to bike, as there is a clear designated bike trail that circles the whole park. One part goes uphill and is slightly challenging, but it is worth the exhilaration after as you travel on a downward slope next to the lake. The seasonal activities at Lakeside such as ice skating and boating are also good options; they are fun and reasonably priced. This is a great site to just with friends and family and have a picnic or play ball under the trees. On Sundays it can get a bit crowded and noisy but it's not too bad as you can always find a nice spot in the vast landscape.
