So many good options

By The World is My Oyster |

Stopped there for lunch yesterday and enjoyed the various food options available. The place is huge and there's so many things to shop for.

Great place to grab a snack or meal!

By Mary T |

What a great place to experience a wide variety of food! There are no national chain places here. From what I could tell, every eatery is local. At first glance you might think it’s a tourist trap and the food might be subpar. Not true; we saw residents from neighboring buildings picking up lunch or dinner and others dining in. Prices are what you would expect for a center city eating establishment. One evening my travel companion ordered a Philly cheesesteak sandwich. It looked delicious but it was extremely greasy. She said it was awesome! There’s a fresh produce shop and several meat and poultry markets where it looks like the meat is brought in fresh daily. There are candy and chocolate shops in addition to the places to order chicken dinners, Mac n cheese, or ethnic food. Fortunately we stayed two blocks from the terminal and could walk there every day. Dining at our hotel was expensive; ($5 coffee, $10 oatmeal, $26 burgers). We had breakfast at The Terminal every day and dinner several times. The only drawback for dinner dining is the Terminal’s closing time of 6pm. It’s congested at times but it doesn’t take long to get an order of food. To get a good insight into the place, you can take a tour; it’s an interesting story. There is an office where you can sign up for tours and buy Reading Terminal T-shirts, mugs, and other souvenirs. If I returned to Philly for a visit and was staying at a hotel nearby, I would choose this as my main eating place again. By the way, the cast bronze pig in the center of the market is Philbert who is quite large and serves as a great reminder to put a dollar or two in the box he is standing on. The money goes to provide food for the underserved of the city.

Not to be missed

By Jasminrose |

The Reading Terminal Market was a highlight of my visit to Philadelphia. This is a great casual lunch place with choices from numerous cultures. Just walking around appeals to all of one's senses. Locals are friendly and it is easy to strike up a conversation with someone on a lunch break from work. It was hard to choose, but I settled on Greek food (Greek salad and spanakopita), though local Philly specialties are also on offer. Just a fun and unforgettable place!

Fun market!

By alilodd80 |

We stopped in for lunch, and even on a Saturday, it wasn’t hard to get from shop to shop. It’s fun to just eat your way around! There are plenty of choices for everyone, and the prices are reasonable, especially for big-city eating.

Lots of Hoopla, Not Much Reality

By William S |

Reading Market is a very busy food court. There are a couple of places which sell fruits & vegetables, fish, or non-food items but it really is a large food hall. Cheesesteaks, turkey sandwiches, bakeries, oysters, BBQ chicken, etc. There are a few places which offer seating while most offer only take-away. The building is fairly large so it takes a while to walk around and decide what you might want to eat. It’s all “okay” with nothing exceptional or really delicious. We tried a few places and bought some fruit to take away. Everyone says this is a “must visit” but I think you can miss it.

Come Hungry!

By nowpacking |

Opened in 1893, Reading Terminal Market is an enclosed public market located at 12th and Arch Streets in Center City Philadelphia and it is a feast for the senses!

Over one hundred merchants offer fresh produce, meats, fish, artisan cheese, groceries, ice cream, flowers, grilled cheese, baked goods, smoothies, crafts, books, clothing, and delicious specialty and ethnic foods. Everything is beautifully displayed. Two of the vendors are descendants of original merchants from the initial opening in the late 1800s.

Great location for lunch, shopping and every kind of treats imaginable!

Great food market in the center

By Dana K |

Nice colourful market, where you can ease yourself during a busy day and get something tasty to eat. Many diners and cafes, great pastry, cheese and meat - you can obtain almost everything in there and it will be just great 👌

Crowded but lots of options

By Richard C |

Sort of a huge indoor food court. Large crowds on the weekends (at least when I went, in June). Can be tricky to navigate when overrun by the hordes. Lots of food options... almost anything you want is here. Don't miss the mushroom cheesesteak at By George (it's worth the 10-minute wait).

Awesome variety

By Teran T |

If you do not know what you want to eat, head here. There are so many choices! It's a culinary Haven.

you wont be disappointed

By simon b |

after planning a trip to New York, we decided a day trip to Philadelphia would also be on the cards, and having seen the market online and on you tube, being a chef and foodie, it seemed like the natural thing to do.
was very impressed with the whole place, all manner of food to be had, lovely things to taste and try, great food to eat, a lovely buzz around the place, and i think i would eat there every day if i lived nearby.

Great, but not the best

By BRAD H |

This was a great place to visit to get a snack. Whike walking through we noticed many of the prices of the meat and produce were more than a grocery store. The food vendors offered meals which smelled delicious.
As a food market, I'm a little partial to the West Side Market in Cleveland Ohio.

Fun and Delicious!

By FunkyWanderer |

We loved this market; Philly's version of Pike Place Market in Seattle or Granville Island Market in Vancouver, BC. The local grocery, food, and desserts gave us a delicious taste of "Philadelphia".

Definitely a must-visit spot!

Great place

By MisEr89 |

Spent in Philladelphia only 2 days, had a dinner and lunch here. Good donuts (fresh, not the frozen ones), cheesesteak etc.

Foodies dream!!!!

By KNT5 |

Foodies dream!!!! Food! Food! Food! Mostly foods
Location is very central surrounds by hotels & restaurants

Walking in the Reading Terminal overall is an overwhelming experience but once you get your bearings right and focus, smelled and taste amazing different kinds of foods! From hoagies to Italian to Chinese to cheeses teaks to halal to Mexican; all is represented! The fresh meat, cheese, produce, seafood...!!!!

The place is crowded & noisy as massive amount of tourists and Philadelphia's. Difficult to find parking space

The donuts place is a cool stop, they make different pastries. An unexpected highlight was the infused olive oil and vinegar spot-- you should try everything.

The Amish merchants make donuts & fresh baked cinnamon rolls? Smoothies make with fresh fruits from the farmers market.

Should try Philly Cheese steaks, Salami, Beef Prosciutto, Pickled veggies, DiNic's is one of my favorite sandwiches in the world, warm Pretzels & Chicken wings with different flavors.

Definitely a good way to spend a few hours
Perfect place for tourists and locals to hang out!!!!!

Great buzzy place!

By Gill O |

This is a lovely market with so many different stalls. We bought some lovely meat from here! Everything was fresh and a really good price. We had lunch here which takes a little organising! There are lots of tables but also lots of people but it didn't take too long.

Worth a visit just for the experience. Also, the lunch options were good.

So many options

By LovingNewAdventures |

Lots of food options! Plus some good shopping. It’s fun for the kids to see the live lobster. We want to check out the ice cream and donuts. Apparently pretzels are good here, too.

The biggest we witnessed in US so far

By Traveller_123 |

The largest market we saw in US. So much choice of food and fun things to do. Some of the lines are insanely long but guess worth it. Unlike other markets, we saw a lot of sitting places though you have a look a little to find a place to sit.

Everything and more

By JoAnn P |

This is very like many large food courts/farmer's markets across America, but it is inside the old Reading Railroad Terminal (circa1850). The building itself is a sight. The food and foods offered focus on what Philadelphia is famous for: great cheesesteak sandwiches, every kind of Amish produce and preserves, bakery goods, butchers, you get the idea. We just loved soaking it all in.

Tastes of Philadelphia

By Vicky C |

Wonderful way to experience the taste of Phila under one roof. The food is delicious and there are so many choices.

interesting visit

By r2scenery |

Overall it is a good experience for tourist. Many different shops with a wide range of products. Good place for breakfast but often crowed.

A Fun, Flavorful Experience for the Whole Family!

By David |

Reading Terminal Market was a highlight of our Philly trip! It’s a bustling, historic market filled with unique shops and global cuisine, making it a great stop for families with teens. Our teen loved the variety and the vibrant atmosphere—it’s a place where you can explore, taste, and discover something new around every corner.

We especially enjoyed the incredible bakeries—Termini Brothers, Flying Monkey, and 4th Street Cookie Co. all offered delicious treats that were perfect for a mid-day break.

Whether you’re after a full meal, a sweet treat, or just want to soak in the lively local vibe, this market is a must-visit in Philadelphia!

Awesome!

By razz19 |

If you are in Philly, Reading Market is a must! Honestly, it is a little overwhelming with all the vendors (we just had a couple of days). There is something for everyone; delicious sweets, sandwiches and ice cream. It is extremely busy, but we were always able to find a seat in the center of the market.

Great Experience

By shop4ever |

You don't know what to try first. You can take your time strolling up and down the rows of food. There is definitely something for everyone. It is a good idea to bring a cooler with you, if you want to purchase foods to bring home. It is a wonderful place to visit. Enjoy!

Cool Place to Visit

By Sockster |

We'd heard so much about the Terminal Market, we had to come here- we arrived around 11:30am and it wasn't as crowded as we expected it to be. There's a ton of choices of restaurants to eat from- in every style. There's butchers and fishmongers as well. It was a very nice experience and is recommended on your next trip to Philly.

TIP: The garage offers $5.00 parking with a $10 spend in the market- just have the vendor you spend $10 with validate your ticket.

Pretty crowded.

By Ian Robert K |

At 1pm on a Sunday, this place was nuts. There were very long lineups for many of the popular places (mostly serving cheesesteak sandwiches). There were very few places to sit once you managed to get something to eat.

This market is not particularly unique in any way. It feels much like any other market in a big city. But if you are looking for a cheesesteak sandwich, this is clearly the place to go. Just expect to spend a long time waiting.

Options, Options, Options!

By justlis67 |

Stopped in for lunch on a weekday with my sister and her children, and walked up and down every aisle taking it all in before deciding from the many options on what to eat. Such a cool place with lots to take in.

Bigger and better than I thought...

By taimgxe |

We walked from our hotel to Reading Terminal Market and was blown away at the size and options of this place. You can't go hungry here. There is something for everyone here. Great food shopping. Just take your time and enjoy... but beware, it will get packed with the lunch time crowds.

Mixed Feelings about the Market

By Hampsteader |

I often walk through the market and take out of town friends to see the place, as it's interesting. There is a huge selection of foods including bakeries, chocolates, fruit and veg, meats, seafood, cheese, deli and ethnic specialties. There are also many places to stop and eat, not just buy food to take home. The Amish diner is especially popular breakfast and brunch.

The problem is the market itself. It gets incredibly crowded and noisy. People push and bang into you constantly (mostly unintentionally, but it gets annoying), stand in key junctions and block the way, despite you asking them to move, ram you with strollers, etc. The aisles are extremely narrow and just can not accommodate the number of people. The common seating areas for eating are dirty, uncomfortable and crowded as well. The back part of market always smells bad, too. I would hate to be in there if a fire of some kind of emergency situation broke out- it would be chaotic.

It's an historic building, which can't really be extended. I'm not sure what the solution is, but after a few minutes, I have to leave because I can't stand it. It wouldn't be the same in a gleaming, modern new hall, but it could stand improvement. There are always buskers and beggars outside the entrances on 12th Street, too, which make for a less than pleasant experiences on an already overcrowded sidewalk.

It's best to go quite early in the day. By late morning/lunchtime it's just too mobbed.

It´s a must!

By Lia H |

We usually tend to go to all market places everywhere we go, so philly was no different!
Reading is unlike any other market we had done before! Its probably a bit smaller than other markets, and there are a lot of little restaurants, a couple of places that sell fresh produce, and lots of sweets and candy! Among the places that stood out was a store in the back that only sold olive oil and balsamic vinegars.... absolute must! We tried most of the items and fell in love with the smoked evoo, the espresso and the fig balsamics! Dont miss it! There is a bulk store near by, that sells nuts, grains, candy, chocolate, etc.... and you just buy as much as you want! For lunch we did Carmens, which we waited about a half hour in line for, Hershels deli which was great and the fried chicken place! All really good! Its super crowded, so be prepared for that. Absolute delight!

Go, just go.

By Armen Pandola |

I have been going there for a long time. It used to be a little messy, and a little dirty. But the food was always great and the deals too. So go around noon. Take a walk around. You are sure to see something you like.

What a gem of a place

By Michelle C |

If you are a foodie, you’ll love this. The only difficulty is choosing! We went for a cheese steak, corned beef sandwich and whoopie pies. All were incredible. Wish I’d had enough room for more. If I ever get to go to Philadelphia again, I’d go straight back to the market. It had a brilliant atmosphere for people watching and passing an hour over delicious lunch. Could just eat another Cheese Steak from Carmens!

A Real Philadelphia Highlight

By Carole P |

A Great place to have lunch and buy groceries! Super for people watching. All kinds of ethnic and traditional Philadelphia & American food. Sandwiches a bit expensive, but big enough to share.Try not to go between 12 & 1 on weekdays. Popular lunch hour place.

A Market Full Of Wide Food Choices But “Too Crowded”

By Dwyer |

Get me out of here! What a Zoo, people bumping into you from every direction. Not a place to sit, relax and enjoy your meal without a crowd. One thing this Market does not lack is finding something to eat at any price.
We ended up going to Le Pain Quotidien on Walnut Street instead and shared the Grilled Chicken & Smoked Mozzarella Melt that was delicious - our Server Amar B was fabulous! He made sure we had everything we needed, and we gave him a generous tip since he was so nice.
So, if you you want a variety of food choices, and don’t mind crowds at a cheap price the Market is the place for you.

Slice of the past

By Gina B |

Took my tour group here for lunch. Loved the sights, sounds, smells and all the options for food. While busy- lines moved fast and it was so much fun to wander and look at everything. Reading is a slice of the past for today’s travelers. Only disappointment- the line for the donuts was too long- next visit!!

It's ok.

By trekker27nyc |

It's just an indoor food court. Although, I did not see anywhere to sit down and eat. If your in the area, just walk through to see what it's all about, but I would not go out of the way.

Best Experience

By Qpons |

Great place for all types of clothing; food; culture diversity, homemade crafts & jewelry. Tanks of live seafood. Right in the center of Philadelphia.

Amazing Slice of Philly - Food is Amazing

By Dave L |

My wife and I love to try and really get into the local hearts of the places we visit, and Reading Terminal Market is definitely one of those places. Great shops and restaurants, unique craft and artisan vendors, and people from all parts of Philly and surrounding areas.

We REALLY enjoyed our meal at DiNiC's. If you're visiting Philly, you've likely had at least one Philly Cheesesteak, but the pulled pork and greens hoagie at DiNiC's easily gives the cheesesteak a run for it's money. Delicious!

Not good for small children

By mlcdpt |

Very cool place but not great with small children. Very chaotic, minimal seating options. This is much better for adults

Reading Terminal Market

By Sharon P |

A must stop in Philadelphia. Dozens of vendors. Excellent food ready made and grocery like fresh fruit vegetables and bakery. Crafts and just a great experience.

Our kind of place

By robertmoffett |

Yes, the location can be frenetically busy, tables hard to find and many, many tourists... However, Reading Terminal Market also offers a wealth of both tasty food and variety. We visited several times over the course of five days in Philly and enjoyed each visit. If you don’t like crowds you may want to avoid or visit during non peak times of lunch and dinner.

Indoor Farmer;s Market

By Annie O |

Local groceries, Gifts and Munchies are prevalent. Butchers, Fish Mongers, compete with Green Grocers. Amish pretzels, popcorn and delights abound. Fresh Flowers mix with Bars where you can have lunch wwith a Gyro or Philly Steak and Cheese washed down with a local Brew. This place has it all.

You Gotta Go!

By Louis59 |

As a very frequent traveler, I always appreciate a place that's unique - something different to remember about a trip. In Philadelphia's case, reading Terminal Market is one of those places.

This place is a huge establishment, packed with food & beverage outlets from Thai to barbecue to deli to seafood to desserts, and everything in-between. There are even a handful of crafts stores, a large produce stand, flowers, and more. A group of anywhere from two to 200 people could arrive and fan out, each finding his/her own favorite place to dine, and have a blast.

I've visited five or six times, and haven't repeated a restaurant once. So many to choose from! Great place to get out of the heat, rain, snow, or for any other reason to rub elbows with a thousand of your friends for a unique experience.

An Amazing Market

By Kabelo T |

I have been to my fair share of markets and I absolutely love the vibe at Reading. There are various food choices and all of us who had a meal there were satisfied. Dessert to try is definitely a few donuts from Belair's.

Very busy, Great atmosphere

By Peter D |

We visited Reading Terminal Market twice during our short stay in Philadelphia, and both visits were excellent experiences. The market is always bustling and full of energy, with a lively local vibe that really captures the city’s character.
It’s predominantly filled with food outlets, and the variety is impressive — from local specialties to international dishes, there’s truly something for everyone. Although it can get quite busy, especially during meal times, that only adds to the vibrant atmosphere. A must-visit spot if you enjoy great food and lively markets.

An essential visit during a trip to Philly

By Vivian |

You can find a little bit of everything here. We first stopped in for breakfast (donuts at Beiler's Bakery) and then came back later for lunch (cheesesteaks and buffet-style country food). The next day, we ended up back in the market for pretzels, cookies, and a look through the produce stands. There's no way to taste everything, but you'll definitely want to! It gets busy at lunchtime, but we always found seating eventually. The enclosed space means you don't have to worry about traffic or blocking sidewalks, and this crowded, busy space is surprisingly calm and low stress.

Tons of variety

By estabrks |

I love going to Reading Market! It's fun to sample the wide variety of authentic options. The Amish donuts are fresh and yummy. Expect to wait in line. Our family typically buys from multiple vendors and share to try more things.

Such a great place!

By Meg G |

Great place! So much to see, to EAT! We didnt get discounted parking...paid $28 for an hour. But that was our mistake. Cheesesteak was good. Wilts strawberries are fabulous! Banana pudding is 10/10! One of everything please!

It’s just alright

By Jennifer Y |

Maybe I expected too much but this place was smaller than I though. I drove up from Northern Va to go up here and I don’t think it was worth for me. Things are expensive too. The parking bear is super expensive too.

Great place for a foodie

By Conor01 |

If you are looking for a unique spot with all sorts of delights under one roof then this is it

You have a huge combination of places to eat, drink but fresh produce and crafts

I as a foodie was really impressed with just the vast array of things to buy some of which I had never seen before.

I word of caution though this place does get busy with people eating and shopping so if you want to grab a bite be prepared to wait. It’s well worth it though

Becks At Reading Terminal

By Akilah C |

Becks is a must if you are looking for something different. The ALLIGATOR GUMBO IS TO DIE FOR. I eat there everyone I go which is once every 2months.

Great place for tourists and locals

By e_Williams191 |

The interior of Reading Market reminded me of an exhibition hall at a state fair with a bit of an industrial feel to it, but in an old-fashioned, authentic kind of way. From BBQ, to cheese steaks, to Greek, Middle Eastern to smattering of Deli's, there's a cuisine for every palate. It has cuisines from around the world with Amish food counters, specialty cheese shops, seafood, meat, produce, and so many restaurants to choose from, they truly have everything. Most of the restaurants don't have tables, only a counter and some stools. However, there are seating areas with tables and chairs set aside in the eastern part of the market for people who require that sort of thing. The market also had many vendors selling home goods, t-shirts, etc. If you decide to pass up the merchants food and cook for yourself you can pick up ingredients such as produce, spices from Spice Terminal and fresh cut meats. Around the market everything will be priced differently, but most items I thought were priced reasonable. If you come to downtown Philly, I would recommend visiting.

What a place

By Isaac S |

Awesome spot. Worth checking out. Had my first and probably only philly cheese stake with mushrooms. Almost killed me it was that good.

Hustle and Bustle

By travelbugJNS |

Reading Terminal Market was a real cool experience. Lots and lots of people to see, foods to try and things to buy. We stayed for about an hour for lunch. Wish we had longer to walk around and check out the entire market. It’s not a must see but I think it’s worth the visit.

A delightful sensory overload!

By wascocat |

Even on a crowded day, we enjoyed the hustle and bustle. Be careful, if you walk in hungry! A wonderful market experience.

It NEVER Disappoints!!!

By Steven A. |

Every trip to Philly consists of at least a couple trips to Reading Terminal Market! It has some great food, ice-cream, tons of awesome desserts and desserts and desserts, fun and unique specialty booths, fresh fruits, veggies, meats, flowers, jams/jellies ... a really fun place to be. You feel like a little kid in a really cool place overtime you visit! It is so much fun and extremely tasty! Trust me, if you like the farmers market/grazing kind of experience, you will LOVE IT - A must experience when in Philly!!!

Fun market

By Linda S |

A very large bustling indoor market. Everything you can possibly want. This is a worth a visit just to see all the different offers. Prices were very good, very competitive. Very limited seating so this is more of a grab and go market. It was also very clean.

Impossible not to find something delicious

By DPCharger |

The title says it all. The is a reason that locals still
Go to lunch at this very tourist heavy locale. The food choices are extensive and plenty. Wife had oysters and salad, kids had cheese steaks, and I had bites of everything. The most impressive aspect of the market is all of the fresh meats, veggies, and fruit to buy and take home to cook. Happy Eating!

What a fun place

By winags |

This place has everything you could ever need or want, food, groceries, candy stores. What a great concept and so much fun to walk through. We really enjoyed this place.

A Local Who Continues to Return (Although Hesitantly)

By lcattau |

As an actual Philadelphian, I try to avoid Reading Terminal because it is SO crowded and touristy. However, whenever I have a conference at the convention center or jury duty or am just in Center City, I'm drawn to this mecca of amazing local food. My personal favorite is the creperie and Greek food. I was on a 13 day jury trial, and I alternated between those two each day. I also love the Iovine Produce place. During my first six months in Philly, I didn't have a car. I lived near Whole Foods and would often go there with a backpack and two reusable grocery bags, but it was expensive. I started going once a week on the subway to pick up my fresh produce. The quality was evident and the price was great. The market also has a great bar with a good beer selection. I used to really dig the winery but now find the wines too sweet. There are also some great speciality shops, including one next to the wine tasting shop that sells Philly/PA gifts. My parents beeline there every time they visit. If this place keeps drawing in a local, clearly it is worth a tourist seeing!

Great place to visit

By ksu-ny |

We lived next door tot he market, and went in for brunch there, as well as to just browse. It is certainly a fun place to visit, with various shops offering various fare. THe only downside: it closes early...

Wonderful, Unique Philadelphia Gem!

By Chana L |

Reading Terminal Market is a Philadelphia gem, and not just for tourists! Natives go here all the time. In fact, the main complaint is how crowded it is all the time. Every kind of meat and produce you can imagine as well as restaurants and stalls selling everything from home made fudge to handmade soap to linens and more types of jerky than I knew existed. Don't miss it if you visit Philadelphia!

Lots of Choices

By AndyKansasCity |

There’s something for everyone here with a great variety of foods. We had cheesesteaks at Spataro’s and dessert at the Flying Monkey.

My Favorite Part of Philly!

By kimber72761 |

I LOVED the Reading Terminal Market. There is so much to look at and to buy. The large variety of food is very reasonably priced, and everyone can get anything they want. I could have spent several hours here, but we only had a couple. Very cool place!!

A Street Food Extravangza

By Seamus |

Lively and diverse market with dozens of food outlets and something for everyone. You can see the food being made, sit at an open table and eat it fresh there and then, A must for any traveller to Philly,

You want it, they got it!

By MississippiCatwoman |

My husband and I were in awe of all the sights, sounds and variety of goods offered in the market. It was a first time for us to see octopus in the butcher's window. A must see when in Philly. The Philly Cheesesteak at Carmen's was out of this world!! Had to stand in line but well worth the wait.

Bang for the buck

By remyredone |

Nice clean people are very friendly and helpful .all booths are related to food not much shopping stores related to clothing .not what I expected .but nice

Lots to see and shop

By Tonya F |

Reading Terminal Market is a good market, as this type of markets go. There are lots of yummy food options, local produce and meats, obscure books, baked goods, home items - a little of anything you might be looking for. It's not the place for you if you're claustrophobic at all - this place is popular! I recommend the fresh donuts for sure.

Crowded

By lafreed14 |

I bet the food was good and there was a lot to choose from, but there was no place to sit and there were so many people that I could hardly move.

Reading Terminal Market is an Awesome Place to grabe your Brunch!

By TheBambino03 |

This place is awesome. You will find lots of food of different kinds and varieties. We went there and had our Sunday brunch with my wife and dear family. What do you expect on a Sunday morning, lots of hungry people lining up to get a grab of quickie food.

And if you are there and planning to have a sit-down meal, make sure you come early so that you can have a table, especially when you are bringing your kids with you.

Overall, the place is clean, with good ambience and atmosphere. Since I will be visiting the US with my wife next year, I will not hesitate to have my brunch in this place again. See you!

Exceptional food with lots of choice!

By Lauren M |

We went to Reading Terminal Market on a number of occasions whilst staying in Philadelphia, there are lots of different stalls offering an array of food. We had some food and drink at Molly Malones which was great, it has an excellent selection of beer on draft. We also had a sandwich at DiNics after seeing it mentioned in TimeOut-the sandwiches did not disappoint.

Great market!

By Micah L |

Love this place! Great variety of food, restaurants, and shops. The fresh produce is amazing. It can get crowded and overwhelming, so definitely try and go during the weekday and away from peak meal times.

Great places to eat.

By jlcarter1975 |

I could have spent the whole day looking at the various places in the market. I had a roast pork sandwich while here at DiNic's. It was wonderful. Its been said the market has the best food in the city and I think it may be true. There was an information booth with a map showing the location of all the stores.

Always fun

By ldtc2 |

Great food options and this place never fails to please. Save your lunch appetite for here. If you are in Philly - you have to have a cheese steak. No matter what ..

Great food and a fascinating experience

By Jane C |

I love the Reading Terminal Market. I love the food itself, I love the history of the place and I love their policy of keeping it local and independent. No visit to Philadelphia is complete without at least one trip to the market - and I would argue one trip every day would be better.

Shop, eat, sample, experience Philly!

By Faith M |

Whether you want fresh, cheap, high-quality produce, a hot Philly cheese steak, a bottle of local wine, fresh flowers, organic oils, homemade ice cream, pastries, ethnic cuisine, or anything in between, Reading Terminal Market is a gem in Philadelphia and a must-see for visitors and locals alike. Allow more time than you'd think you'd need as this place seems to get bigger (not smaller) every time I visit.

Must-do in Philly

By Stacey P |

A typical, old-school PA style market. Lots of variety of vendors. Awesome places for doughnuts, ice cream, chocolates, etc. So many different places to find lunch / dinner (cajun, Amish home-style, cheesesteaks, Asian cuisine, etc) but also has craft stands, a butcher, and vegetable stalls. A little bit of everything. It does get super crowded, but it's worth a visit.

It's like one big buffet

By Princerman |

This place has so many food options to choose from. I think we ate at six different places here. There's a tour on Saturdays which I recommend highly if you're a foodie.

If you're in Philly, this is a must-do on the list.

By Tracy S |

There are some shops, but I definitely go here for the food.

Yes, it's probably known as a very touristy place to go, but you won't be disappointed with the great options for a lot of local favorites.
Go Hungry!! And there is something to make everyone happy, including some great homemade sweet treats!
The roast pork sandwich alone at Tommy DiNic's will have you planning your next visit before you leave!

Feed the family at the market in under an hour!

By Rainbowdops |

Here's the plan of action to get the goods and keep it all moving at Reading Market: As soon as you arrive dispatch one adult to stand on line for Carmen's (cream cheese and fried onions in this cheesesteak really can't be beat!), then take the kiddos to the back to the bathroom. As you make your way back up to the front, swing by Miller's Twist for a Pretzel Dog and lemonade, then head up to Beiler's to snag some donuts. Swing over to the side to get some spicy pickles from Bieler's as well and then head back to Carmen's. The adult left there will most likely still be in line waiting for the hoagies. Pick up a lemonana (mint lemonade mmmm) from Kamal's while waiting for your cheesesteak. Once you have all the food nab a table and chow down.

Tip: Park for just $4 at Hilton Garden Inn or Parkway garage with a $10 purchase validation at the market.

Unbelieveable

No matter what food you want it is available here, all fresh and cooked on the spot at a very reasonable cost

A PHILLY LEGEND

Their are tremendous number of ethnic options for meals and also many little stalls for food specialty shops

Food Glorious Food

By baz_0812 |

A proper food market that you could spend hours in just deciding what you wanted to eat or to take home with you. Not every vendor is purveying top quality goods, some of it is for quickness and volume, but most of what is on offer is above average and well worth investing the time and money in. Highlights - Sang Key Peking Duck House (roast duck and roast pork noodle platter), The Dutch Eating Place (apple dumplings), Beck’s Cajun Cafe (Train Wreck Po’ Boy) and voted the best sandwich in America is the Roast Pork Italian style sandwich at DiNic’s.

Bring an appetite and an empty stomach!

By Danielle A |

This is a must stop if you're looking for serious food variety. There is not a type of food that you can't find in this market. The hustle and bustle and fast pace of this market makes it an experience in itself. But the food... that's what makes it great. From baked goods to fresh cut meats, you can find just about anything. The restaurants also have fantastic menus. Its hard not to salivate while you're walking through the rows and rows of vendors. There is limited seating but depending on the time you go there should be no problem. Street parking is also limited but recommended.

Holy moly

Anything you want food wise is here!! Crowded but a must see! Seafood, Cheeseteak, candy, vegetarian..you name it!!

Really, the best conglomerate market in the U.S

Pike's Place Market in Seattle gets a lot of hype, and hundreds of thousands of visitors every year, but the real deal Market is Reading Terminal in Philly. It's way more stocked with way better stuff, better food, better stores, better products.

Great place for late breakfast

By RobboElviria |

We were recommended by a couple of people to visit here for something to eat.

We ended up having a late breakfast here on one of our days in town.

We ate in Molly’s diner which was excellent, but could have chosen one of dozens of options serving all manner of cuisines.

Also a bustling market serving all sorts of food and the like.

Well worth a visit.

A tourist attraction

By Anthony P |

Many places in here are over priced and just average ...There are many local gems throughout the neighborhoods of Philadelphia.. Especially south Philly where you will find the mom and pop shops that have been around for years...

Better if not so crowded

By Jenny |

My group of six went here at lunchtime on a Monday. Boy oh boy, was that an unoriginal idea!

There are so many choices of places to eat! I was hoping that there would be more non-food shops, but there were only a couple. Most were places to buy food.

We got two cheese steaks at a recommended place, over $20, but enough for the six of us to share. The workers were super nice, but it would have been better with a little more cheese. (This is my second time buying "Philadelphia Cheese Steak Sandwiches" in Philadelphia, but I have to admit that they are actually better at almost any New Jersey pizzeria!)

There are open seating areas in the middle, but good luck finding seats. We circled several times before finding seating for four, so two of us stood nearby.

When we wanted to look around more, we split up into three groups of two people. There would have been no possible way to walk around while staying in a group of six. I don't know how the few people with strollers were able to manage it, nor do I see how somebody in a wheelchair or scooter could possibly get around.

I'm glad I went and was able to cross it off of my bucket list. But it isn't something I need to see again, nor would I put it in a list top things to do in Philadelphia.

This place is a treasure

By loumsrea |

Went here for breakfast and a walk around the morning after a concert. Everything is a feast for the eyes. Loved it.

Awesome market

By emilysO2428GX |

This market was awesome! I stayed walking distance from the market for a week in Philadelphia and we went inside at least once a day. The market has great restaurants, specialty bakeries, a bar, a veggie market, meat market, and some gift shops. There was enough choices for everyone in our party for food, from classic Philly cheese steak to a delicious salad bar! Definitely will be back!

Loads of fun

By jer b |

The Reading Terminal Market is a wonderful public market that is housed in a beautiful 1893 historic building. Inside is an incredible selections of restaurant stalls and others selling meats, fish, flowers, fruits and vegetables, cheeses, candy and crafts. We selected food for lunch from a few places: mainly from Kamal's Middle Eastern Specialties. There is seating in a general area, but many of the restaurants have stools or tables and chairs themselves. Best approach: stroll up and down the aisles and see what is available. Note booths that interest you and return to them after your "tour" is complete. There is truly something for everyone here. It is nice to see that there are several Pennsylvania Dutch businesses located here. A must when visiting Philadelphia.

Awesome

The Reading Terminal market was a life-saver. I was at a conference in Philadelphia and for my dinner and an occasional breakfast, I could quickly run to the market, grab a bite and be off quickly. Good variety there.

There's food for everyone! Great selection of eateries! Could be overwhelming at first, but walk through and look at all there is to offer- there's a little bit of everything. We really enjoyed it. LOVED the Amish booths.

Landmark Public Market

By 22Senior_travels |

It was a very hot 33C day that I visited, and hot also inside the under cover Public Market.

I walked around to cool down and check out the place. Lots of food and different cuisines. I'd heard of the famous Amish food stall and hunted that out.

Friendly service. Value for money.

Bring your appetite!!

The number and types of eateries is amazing here. If you want the best Hot Roast Beef Sandwich, with au jus, DINIC'S IS THE PLACE. Then keep walking around Reading Market until you have room for dessert...then find Bassetts Ice cream. A perfect day in the City of Brotherly Love

Best market in America

By mlruddy |

I love this market. There are so many wonderful things to buy! If you want food, snacks, coffee, or dessert, then this is your place. If you visit Philly this should definitely be at the top of your list.

A unique market experience

By DinEd |

Whether you are from the Philly area, just passing through or attending a convention or business meeting, this is a must see stop. The market offers a wide variety of restaurants and food venues as well as shops and vendors that offer baked goods, household items, chocolates, spices, produce, crafts, books and Basset's ice cream. You can also get unique Philly area items for you or friends at home.
Lunchtime has the heaviest crowds and lines. There is seating available. Parking is limited on street but there is public parking nearby.
And don't forget to pet the pig 🐷

Won't leave hungry

By laura p |

Yesterday my friends and I ate at Olympic gyro and there lunch special was generous and delicious. We all enjoyed our chicken gyros and fries. Also highly recommended is famous 4th street cookies. Don't leave without one. And stock up on produce at Iovine's on the back. They had a large variety and some food sales going on.

Wow

By RickiePooFan |

Can you imagine living where you could shop weekly in this place? The produce prices were unbelievably low and appeared very fresh. Every type of meat, fish, seafood, and cheese as well as multiple bakeries. Packed solid with people but everyone was nice and polite. Ate a philly cheesecake in one side then walked across to the bakery for an amaretto chocolate banana!

highlight of our trip

this was the highlight of our trip. there were loads of food choices here. it was so good that we came back for a second day

A must-see for the Philadelphia experience

By Mark M |

It was our first visit in Philadelphia, and a local friend suggested we include the Market on our walking tour. Great idea!

It was a Saturday about noon, and very bustling. There are lots of interesting booths - vegetables, meats, etc. - and restaurants. Come with an appetite and you won't be sorry.

2 thumbs up!

A Must See in Philly

By TheMensch |

This is a signature attraction in Philly and you must eat here. There are plenty of food options for all tastes and some terrific shopping.

It can get very crowded especially when a big event is at the Convention Center but it is well worth the extra effort.

Treat for your senses

By daipayan8 |

This is a huge indoor market with so many shops and restaurants. I can't even list the types of food products sold there. There are many restaurants to stop and eat. One needs to be prepared what to order because there's always a line and pretty crowded.

a wonderland of food

By Lighthousetgl |

A must do! Go hungry and with a lot of room in your waistband! Everything from cultural food to American staples, dessert, wine, etc.

Great place for lunch or qualify food

By PedrinhoLondon |

Conveniently located in center city where we stopped for lunch. One of the attractions is the varied and large choice of stalls to purchase lunch from full meals to eclectic sandwiches and salads whether it be Chinese or American classics.
We chose the Fresh roasted turkey sandwiches with many options that were generous in size and great tasting. Go early as lunchtime is very crowded.

Great variety

By suzannebrady |

The market is great and has absolutely lots of different things for sale. It has its own food court and the usual Philly steaks, jambalaya, doughnuts, cookies, etc can be bought. There are also the usual market type stalls with fruit, veg, flowers and so on.

It’s a really well organised place and it’s really interesting

Busy busy busy

By Marie-Tess F |

This place has a lot of interesting stores and restaurants but I was not so happy about the difficulty in finding a place to sit and eat. I guess it may be a good place for some but I prefer a nice relaxing area to eat. Food was great but can't find myself to give it a 5 star.

Breakfast and Lunch Paradise

By Urius |

First time I came here, it was love at first sight. The amount of food available is truly staggering. For sweets lovers, it's paradise. For someone in Philly at lunch time, it's the best place to go. The PA Dutch girls are an integral part of the atmosphere. They show you a part of Pennsylvania culture which cannot be found anywhere else in the world. The hardest part about the Market is choosing what you want because everything looks delicious.

Holy Cow!

By Schweeda |

This place is awesome! I went three times in three days. Had my first cheesesteak here (to die for!) and brought home some Amish breakfast delights to share with friends and family. This is a must see if you are visiting Philly. I would avoid it around lunchtime though.

Busy and super crowded

By Teresa S |

We were there during our spring break and apparently, all of the state of NJ was there with us. All in all, the food was good but it was not easy to find a spot to sit and eat.

Very cool place...go hungry!

By peterrmans |

This is one of those “must do” places if you like to eat. It is a collection of smallish shops and restaurants with every imaginable food and dessert you can imagine.

This is a former train station converted to an inside marketplace.

After walking for an hour or so, my grown son and I opted for Philly Cheese Steaks sandwiches at a place called “BY GEORGE”. The sandwiches were about 12-14 inches long and packed with tasty shaved steak, American or provolone cheese, onions, mushrooms and peppers were an option. My son and I are fairly big eaters, however, this sandwich is a two meal deal, so make sure the fridge in your hotel is working, or better yet, split one and go back later for a fresh one. I love sandwiches, and this one was practically an event!

There are coffee shops, burger joints, Italian, deli,, ice cream, cake, cookies and farmers market stalls. Your kids, young and old will love Reading Market.

There are a few places inside where you can take you food and sit to eat.

This is a BUSY place, but really interesting place to have a great meal!

Must-see in Philly!

By Chrisdma |

What a great place to eat! We had a couple meals here and if it weren't for wanting to see more of Philadelphia, we would have eaten here more while on our trip. There are so many great options! The prices aren't touristy and overpriced. It seemed like there are locals eating here and the restaurants seemed to take great pride in their little patches of land. There are a few boutique shops and market-type stores. If you come to Philly, this is a must see, but come hungry!

Wish we had more time to spend here

By Cris W |

There are many vendors here - great food selections. Miller's had the best pretzels!! Very unique choices. Plan to spend awhile there -- and good hungry!!

Fun chaos for the food lover

By thunderpebbles |

Fifth time there this weekend and always pleases. Great choices from around the globe for a quick bite at lunch. Crowded and a bit chaotic. If you know what you want it definitely helps and which booth to head towards. Don't think you can aimlessly walk through without a plan of action. We headed towards the greek food, had excellent salads, gyros and spankopita (sp?) then ended our lunch with Bassett's ice cream (absolutely a must!) Biggest, best ice cream cones in the USA. This is a fast paced, fun environment so be prepared. If you want a comfy place to sit and talk, this is not it. It's for quick delicious food that you eat sitting on barstools with people walking by all around you.

My Favorite Place in Philly

By TravelingTre |

What a great place. You can get just about anything that you want here. When ever we are in Philadelphia this is one of our first stops. The food is great. They have great ribs, great cheese steaks, ice cream, pastries. You name it, they have it. And we grocery shop. Fresh produce and great butcher shops are everywhere. It's a bit crowded, particularly around lunch, but it's great.

Market for All

Multitude of things

By spoiledrotten1 |

You can find just about anything here from takeout meals, ice cream, butchers and vendors selling a mix of just about anything you could want. Be advised the close the maker early.

You have to come, see, and feel the hustle and bustle of the place!

By MJ Taray |

We came on a weekday, after 2:00 PM, and the place was bustling. We loved it!

Lots of dining options to offer, both local specialties and foreign varieties, other local finds, and the staff who work there all do a great job in keeping the whole market clean and tidy.

Make sure to roam around, and not to miss the cheesesteak either in the market or anywhere else in the city!

Make time

I wish we had more time. There are a couple hundred vendors here - from fresh meat and seafood to beeswax, diners, foodie and bakeries. I could have spent all day in there!

Fun! Donuts!!

By E Sam |

This is a fun place full of little walk up restaurants and farmers market type items. There is one place in particular you must go to! It has the most incredible blueberry fritters!!!! And the Boston cream filled donuts— oh my!!! Amazing! I am not going to get the spelling or name exact, but is was something like Beilers.

Something for Everyone!

By widdoc |

Reading Terminal Market has everything! I went there twice a day during a recent business trip to Philadelphia - starting my culinary adventure with pretzel caramel swirl ice cream! The Pennsylvania Dutch merchants look just like they did sixty years ago when I toured Lancaster County as a child; something has remained constant in this high tech world. The fresh fruit smoothies from Four Seasons were perfect. My bargain find was a variety bag of biscotti for five dollars from the Italian bakery. I had to buy another bag the next day - just to be sure my endorsement was accurate!

Stunning Market With Fab Food

By VikkiBee |

What a lovely market this is! It's filled with stalls selling a wide range of different foods including breads, pizzas, smoothies, baked goods and of course the famous Philly cheesesteak! It all smells so good that it's hard not to buy everything. I actually made two trips here during my stay in Philly, I liked it that much! One of the must-try foods is the Pennsylvanian Dutch (Amish) soft Philly pretzels which were just delicious! This is definitely a must for anyone visiting Philly!

Worth a look

By s c |

Yes it is touristy and crowded but if never been definitely worth a walk through. So many places to choose from if want a meal. Seating limited. Felt had lucked up on a seat. Take good look around then be specific about choice. I liked the salad bar at Tootsies.

If you love food, this is THE place for you

By VikingZoltan |

Absolutely fantastic market that offers every cuisine imaginable. We were left heartbroken that we were only in Philly for the day, as we would have visited this market regularly. It was a busy thriving atmosphere, which added to the experience. We would highly recommend visiting in the area, and on an empty stomach! There is a nice bar located at the rear.

So much to see and eat

By Cody2012 |

Rainy day so off to the market..Fresh veggies , meats, fish, flowers and desserts..Thats just the take home..Many places to eat a a wide selection of foods..Dint forget to your parking ticket stamped to save money.Rest rooms left rear corner.

A must to see

By katiequirk |

Wait in the queue to see a piece of American history. This is something you have to visit. Lots of information to read about - how the bell was cracked and how repairs were tried without success. The information panels were clear and keep you occupied whilst waiting.

Tons of choices

By PhilipAz |

Tons of choices of food, flowers, dry goods, gifts. You name it this place has it under one roof. Very busy but it's been around for over 120 year's and i understand why.

A small but interesting local "farmer's" type market

By Lori C |

I braved the snow to walk to Reading Terminal Market and was not disappointed. A wide array of local food items, too many to test, and a few crafts. I had a wonderful pork sandwich from DiNic's, a great coffee, and an amazing chocolate chip cookie. Just a fun way to spend an hour.

Another Amazing Visit

By AlexanderD |

My family and I made a point to stop here for both breakfast before the 2018 Flower Show and afterwards for a late lunch. We also took home pickles and bacon. No food lover should miss a chance to visit this amazing place and then visit it again and again. Embrace the chaos and just assume you are going to wait twenty minutes to get your lunch from a bewildering variety of incredible food stalls. Turnover at the tables is quick and you'll get a seat soon enough. I cannot stress enough that this is a place not to be missed.

Must Go!!!

By Courtney B |

GO AND EAT EAT EAT!!!! So many choices. Something for everyone! Many viral spots. Definitely hand to go to Uncle Gus Cheesesteaks! Soooo yummy

Reading Terminal Market

By 925Pamela |

This market is awesome. Living in the suburbs of PA, I never actually walked thru the market until I had my family visiting me from England. We had a fantastic time walking thru the many aisles of food, candy, flowers, coffee, etc. Everything was fantastic. Highly recommend it. The only thing I wish was better, was parking closer to the market.

Incredible Food Choices

By W-Hartford_CT |

The terminal is a series of, mostly, food stalls off interweaving passageways. This is a foodie's paradise. So many mouth-watering choices you feel like you have to make a few laps before settling on your choice. For one meal, I settled on fried rice with duck--and this had good chunks of duck. Another trip was a fully loaded turkey sandwich to bring on the train ride home. Prices are good. The problem is the crowds. The place is jammed so when you settle on a choice if you are there during regular meal times you can spend a long time in line. Still, an experience not to be missed if in central Philadelphia.

A treat for the senses

By hayesjilla |

This gives you the experience of being in Philadelphia 100 years ago. You can find any type of food from pa. Dutch , Bassett’s ice cream , Asian , fresh baked goods, produce, and candy. By the time you walk through the market you can’t decide what to eat you just want to try it all. Get a real feel of all of the different cultures you will see in Philadelphia. What a great way to start your tour of Philadelphia.

A good place to visit

By GSiva |

If you are visiting Philadelphia, this is one of the places you need to know. It is near to City Hall on a historial building. You can find there fresh flowers, fruits, vegetable, fresh farm products, as well as other products made my Amish communities. But maybe half of the vendors there are food places, so you will have a lot of places to choose from if you are there to grab a bite. Seating space is very limited, so if you go around lunch time on a weekend, you may have a hard time finding a place to sit.

Great place!

By Jerry P |

A definite stop in Philly! Fun and unusual range of food options. I enjoy "window shopping". I also use it in cold wRather to get in my steps. If you are a foodie you may never get out!

Busy but full of great food and shops

By Writer1953 |

Try not to go on a Sunday or you'll miss the incredibly delicious Pennsylvania Dutch Beiler's Donuts. DO eat at DiNic's! The market is popular with locals and tourists and there is $4 parking nearby (need to make a purchase at the market to get it).

"Real Philly, Real Food!"

By ThomasGX922 |

Roast Pork at DiNiCs? Local produce from the Delaware Valley? Vittles made the Pennsylvania Dutch way? (Beiler's Bakery) All of this can be found at this tourist NOT tourist location. Real Philly folk eat here as well as anyone else who finds out about it. It is real food and local goods galore. Ethnic merchants like Cajun and Thai sell various sundries and...sweets? Well, watch your blood sugar here if baked goods and other concoctions tempt you. A dangerous place. If you can't find something here to spend your money on, I am pulling your tourist card. Seriously! And if you are not hungry get a smoothie at Kamal's, and ask Kamal for advice about his middle eastern food and other places in the metro area if that is your thing. These folks here know Philly! I can say is expect lunch crowds during lunch hours on weekdays, but just after is good. Weekends can be crazy sometimes if something is happening to draw more folks into the city so plan accordingly! But a MUST see/eat/buy!

So much variety!

By arissalovesart |

If you're into good quality local food and you're in Philadelphia you need to sample the various vendors at Reading Terminal Market! We love DiNic's and Bassetts! Every time we go we discover something new. The market has goods as well (candles, stationery, fruits, vegetables, alcohol, etc).
One of Philly's biggest gems!

A Little Bit Of Everything!

By Betty M |

You can get anything you want at the Reading Terminal Market! There is a large variety of food, both prepared and fresh. It is true that there are crazy crowds at times, mostly weekends and during events like the flower show, but there are times that it is less manic such as week days at 10am for wonderful brunches. This place is a real treasure, we stop at least once when we are in town. It is worth dealing with the crowds to check out the amazing variety of vendors.

Delicious looking food but...

By mateo sz |

The food looked delicious but the Market is way too crowded and there aren’t enough places to actually sit down or at least lean and eat. It was cool for two minutes but then it just got tiring. Don’t waste your energy and go to one of Philadelphia’s great restaurants, which won’t be such an attack on the senses and hopefully won’t be so stressful.

Reading Terminal Market

By Kief2 |

Went there for some Philly cheesesteak at 9 in the morning, and it didn’t disappoint. All the shops here are great.

GREAT EATS!

By ChiefPKT |

This market brings you back to a more simple time when merchants sold their goods in a market like this. Great local flavors and aromas surround you as you walk (and eat) through the aisles. Great spot for food and local flair!

Good Heaven

By Caitlyn W |

We have visited Reading Terminal Market several times through the years. It is definitely a must whenever we visit Philly. I made sure our hotel is walking distance to the Market. I love the variety of prepared foods (ethnic cuisine, bakeries, chocolate/candy, steaks and pork sandwiches) as well as fresh produce, meats and seafood. We stopped by at least once every day of our trip for a meal. But we also made sure we brought some goodies home. We left with donuts from Beilers, candies from Sweet as Fudge Candy Shop, honey and beeswax lip balm from Bee Natural and jams from Kaufman’s Lancaster County Produce stand. Can’t wait to go again soon.

So many choices- never enough time to sample it all

By stinkykitty |

This place is amazing! You can eat breakfast, lunch and get items for dinner here. There is an overwhelming # of choices to sample. I was able to have delicious crabcakes and shop for vegetables for dinner in a matter of steps. This place can get very packed so plan to get there early or get there later in the day to miss the crowds. I must admit that my favorite hoagie place Salumeria is now gone but it is pushing me to sample other foods.

Interesting place

By MelbournePam |

What a delightful market and what a choice of international foods. A must see when visiting Philadelphia. Visitors to this area do need to be aware of the many aggresive, in your face homeless people around the outskirts of this market.

You name it, they've got it!

By redcatcec |

This continually busy market has been a resource of good food, although not cheap. They have it all, fresh, raw, produce, meats, deli's, Asian, Greek, Italian, pastry, etc. You'll find it here.
A few places serve alcohol,
Some locals we were talking to said it is always this busy. It is often hard to find seating, people roaming about looking about for an open chair to just pause and enjoy their food.

Our own food tour

By 🛶🏕🍷🍸🍹 |

Most of the Amish vendors are closed on Sunday so you might not get the same experience.

We walked around the market first to scope out all the vendors and see what specialties they had. We got there around 9am. Any later and you’ll wait in line for some things. You can also read my individual reviews on each places’ Trip Advisor page. Here’s what we came up with:

Coffee, there are several coffee roasters in the market. We had free Starbucks gift cards to use up so we crossed over to the evil Empire before we went to the market. I highly suggest getting a good fresh roasted coffee at one of their vendors.

Our first stop was Millers Twist for a unique breakfast sandwich. Eggs ham and cheese rolled up in a Philly soft pretzel. Get one.

Then to Beilers for doughnuts. Had a apple cider donut. Simple and old school.

Get a drink at Kamals, there is a lemonada on the Internet that everyone asks for, instead ask them what their favorite it. You’ll like it!

Di Nics is the place to go for Roast Pork, they’re big, so you can easily split one.

Then grab dessert at Termini brothers. Anything there is delicious and cheap for what you get.

One of the best places isn’t inside the market. Walk outside side and around the block to Toms Dim Sum, at 59 N 11th st. For soup dumplings. If you never had any, read my review for Toms on how to eat them.

A Must See if Visiting

By Nantieau |

Vacationing from Michigan the Reading Terminal was on our list of places we wanted see. Actually, my wife and daughter set up our plans and I didnt know what I was walking into.
Reading Terminal is an inside market place of food and groceries. Plenty to see, eat, and purchase.
CAUTION: YOU WILL WALK OUT OF THE TERMINAL WITH A FULL STOMACH... mostly because, after you eat food, there is plenty of desserts available. Ice cream, pastries, cakes, pies, chocolates and cookies.

I recommend starting at the south east corner of the terminal where you will find a map of the layout.

If this review has helped you decide, please give it a thumbs up. Thanks and Happy Vacationing!

Our return visit to the "Reading Terminal Market"

By James P |

We stopped over for lunch from the Flower Show. This market is huge and very crowded especially at lunchtime. Many different ethnic foods from many vendors. We shared a Falafel wrap which was tasty but messy. We had to stand eating due to no known seating nearby. Stop in when you are in the area.

favorite spot

By bigpittstop |

This is my favorite spot in all of Philly. take the foodie tour and eat your way through the market. come back and dabble in a little each day. Oh, and whiz with....its the only way to go!

Tips for First Timer's

By Tanya T. |

This place is huge, so if you have been on your feet all day and are starving, you can find something that will meet everyone's appetite here. Lunch hour is extremely busy, so expect a bit of a wait. I suggest getting fruit at the grocery area, it will help curb the appetite while waiting in line for some real grub! After your belly is full, THEN roam every aisle and enjoy the smell and sights of wall-to-wall food! BTW, it's pronounced "red-ing", not "reed-ing" - so you will not see books and magazines as I thought one should! You're welcome.

Great food options, fun and different type of gifts

By FinnRuns630 |

Fun place to visit, many food options for everyone and good shopping. Unique and unusual gift for the hard to buy for person. Classic Philadelphia !

Amazing gem of a food market

By Dunc1971 |

This is located to the rear of the old Reading Terminal railway station in Central Philly. It's crammed full of great stalls, selling meat, fish, fruit, vegetables, baked products etc. Additionally, and more importantly for the tourist/ visitor, there are numerous eateries selling anything from Cajun to French fries to salads. If you have a sweet tooth, join the queue (usually a long one) for Beiler's doughnut stall. Outstanding selection, great quality and affordable. A must-see in Philadelphia. Bear in mind, it's crowded, so if you hate bustle, head there early!

A MUST-SEE FOR FOODIE HEAVEN, CENTRALLY LOCATED DOWNTOWN!!

This is a huge variety of food and shopping market, so allow for time to visit, probably no less than 2 hours. Scintillate your senses, and go hungry. There is so much to choose from with reasonably priced, appetizing fresh food, from around the world, everywhere you look. Some places have a line, but they move rather quickly. I would suggest, taking time to look around at all the variety of cuisine, which could be half the fun, before choosing what to eat. There are plenty of places to shop, as well, for reasonably priced, flowers, herbs, wonderful fresh produce, fresh seafood, meats, delectable baked goods, chocolates, coffee, teas, or specialty gifts. The market is usually open from early in the morning to about 6 pm. However, some vendors may close earlier. Check the website, for hours.

Some of my favorites to try, are wonderful German sandwiches at Wursthaus Schmitz, devine handmade 40+ flavors of ice cream, shakes or floats at Bassett's Ice Cream, the lunch counter for old fashion apple dumpling or great chicken salad sandwich at the Dutch Eating Place, or delicious fried chicken and sweet potato casserole at Keven's Soul Food Cafe. Seating can be a challenge, usually you have to search or wait to be seated. However, oh my goodness, whatever food one tries, it is love at first bite!!!

If you are at the convention center, the market is a short couple blocks or less, walk. Parking nearby is every expensive, so one could take a hop-on hop-off, city bus, if located, elsewhere, downtown. If driving, try parking at the Hilton Garden Inn, off 11th, if available, as it is less expensive with a market purchase, when you validate your ticket.
Bon Appetite!!

Now I see what all the fuss is about!

Ok. This place is amazing. They literally have every type of delicacy in Philly. From cakes, cookies and candies to ribs, ice cream, nuts and honey - this place has it all. We purchased some cheeses, crackers and some produce from the vegetable market. We also bought a cake and pumpkin roll from Bieler’s. It is just aisles and aisles of everything delicious in life. Highly recommended.

TAKE ME BACK!

By nickmac207 |

If you are in Center city you are there. Peruse the markets as your Grandmom did. Fresh, made to order, every menu, national or international, sit and eat at group tables or take your goodies home with you. Any lines move fast but be assured the food is great. Row after row, you will not want to miss anything. A truly happy vintage experience that brings you back again and again.

Amazing Experience in Philadelphia PA

By satw59823 |

Even though I used to live near Philadelphia a long time ago I knew nothing about The Reading Market until my husband saw something on TV and wanted to go during our trip. Let me tell you, the Reading Market is a must do experience. It is amazing for food, culture and people watching. We had great food and so much fun. Don't miss this if you are going to Philadelphia.

Amazing Place but too busy to take it all in

By Albanach |

Visited at lunchtime Saturday, the place was outrageously busy, and there is so much to see and such a variety of food stands selling all manner of cuisine. Eventually settled for one where I would get a good cheesesteak, well you have to in Philly. I returned for a better look and breakfast on Sunday, had a good walk around and there is too much to describe this great multi outlet food market.

Amazing!

By TravelingFrancis5 |

We went every day of our trip. There are so many choices and everyone in your party can eat what they want. I highly recommend spending a little time in here just make sure you take out some items. They close at 6 every day

Food Heaven. Simple, complete, all-encompassing foods.

By JeffreyR411911 |

I ate at the PoBoy's and my wife ate at the Indian/Pakistani kiosk. But there were so many choices of cuisine: bakeries, chocolatiers, a specialty butcher, a specialty produce area, sandwich kiosks, Barbeque, a fish specialty shop, and the reputation here is supreme far and wide. Try whatever you are in the mood to eat -- it is there.

Essential Deatination

This is a must see for any foodie or person who loves good food. Had the absolutely best cheesesteak at DH Cheesesteaks and Liz the cashier was a delight! Go with the sharp cheese as it makes the sandwich.

The One Place in Philly You'll ALWAYS Find Something You'll Like

By Ash |

Where should I start? If you can't decide what type of food you're looking for - you can find everything from unique donuts to amazing pork/beef sandwiches at either end of the terminal. They always have a variety of produce to choose from and cupcakes/cookies to die for after breakfast/lunch/dinner. If you're craving a beer while shopping - head over to Molly Malloy's and ask for a beer in a to-go cup. Even after all the exploring in the market you decide that you would much rather just go home and cook - you have a variety of meats, cheeses and seafood to choose from to enjoy your food from home. If you're visiting Philly - you MUST visit the Reading Terminal. Here's a few other suggestions: grab some fresh Poor Richard's coffee beans at Old City Coffee; purchase a half dozen donuts from Beiler's Donuts (Esp. the Caramel Apple); and stop by the Sweet as Fudge Candy Shoppe. I guarantee you'll have a great first experience.

Good stop for lunch

By JWWA |

The only day we had to visit Philly was on a Sunday so unfortunately we missed seeing all the Amish shops. But we knew that ahead of time.

We were flying home in a few hours so just got lunch and some fruit. Make sure to plan on eating a meal. Some of the places have their own seating and there is a section of tables that were full. We just stood near one of the closed Amish booths and ate there.

So many options, so little time!

By Heather R |

Something for everyone! From Amish flowers to handmade chocolates, there is something for everyone. So many food options, so little time! Deli sandwiches, any hot dish you are craving, or just dessert, you will find it here. Lunch is your best option - closed for dinner. Great with our teenagers, but I wouldn’t recommend it for families with small children. It is about a 15 minute walk from Independence Hall.

Great Philly location! 👍🏼👍🏼

By christoffmarlowe |

On our first trip to Philly we saw several tourist sites but this was one of our favorite! Reminded us of Pike’s Place in Seattle (albeit cleaner). Great food stalls and vendors- we had awesome cheesesteak and donuts while we were there. Give it a visit!

Organized Chaos

By Sarah Mahler |

We went here because it was a stop on our tour, we made the mistake of going just before lunch and boy oh boy was it PACKED. They have sooo many types of food and treats... it’s unbelievable.

It’s definitely a must see but don’t go around traditional meal times because you will wait in line for a long time.

Great place to walk around

By gz3034 |

Well all I can say is if you are a foodie this place is heaven. There are many many food vendors selling prepared goods and fresh meats and cheeses. You can walk around for hours, it is a sensory experience. If you go down there take public transportation as parking is a little expensive if you plan to stay a while.

This place is fantastic!

By Kate M |

I've never been anywhere like this before. We started by eating breakfast at The Amish Eating Place (yum!). Then we walked around and purchased some souvenirs. We returned later in the day to buy sweets too. This place is so unique. I would loved to have spent more time here checking out all of the stalls.

Wonderful market!

By Patbow |

If you are hungry, this is the place. If you want to find some great local food to take home to cook, this is the place. If you need a gift or flowers, this is the place.

This is a bustling market with a variety of food, drink and craft vendors. The prices are very reasonable and the items are fresh. If in Philly, this is worth a visit.

So many choices!

By FergieSolo |

This place is amazing. My aunt used to come here often to buy her fresh meats. She would tell me about her trips but I had no idea it was so massive, with so many food vendors. For some reason, I was expecting more non-food vendors but that's not the case. This place is all about the food. I will definitely make another trip this year.

I purchased some vodka from Boardroom Distillery. The vendor was so nice and told me so much about their process. I searched for this vendor to pick up something for a friend and ended up buying even more for myself.

Bassetts ice cream and Mueller's candy were also very good.

I was there on a Saturday in June and there was an event with the ice cream vendors. A local told me it is usually not that crowded on a Saturday, even in June so I look forward to browsing more.

Great place for lunch break

By Brad R |

Thriving location with huge selection of convenient dining options. Everything you’d want from cheesesteak, meatballs, authentic creole, oyster bar, ice cream, and more. Also many shops stacked with speciality items that are great for browsing.

Good place to try different food

By thesizzlingdiary |

Reading terminal market has a lot of variety of food. It has termini Bros which have the best Cakes. It has Bassett for some yummy ice cream and shakes.

MUST VISIT

By Joe L |

This is a must visit on a saturday morning. The food and the produce and products that you can buy are amazing. There was only one issue ... there were too many options to choose from hahaha I ended up with the Meatball Sandwich from the italian place which was AWESOME !!!!

Great fun

By Erica P |

LOved meandering through this market. So much good food from local establishments. Come in the morning before it gets too busy.

Don’t miss it

By 305maral |

Wonderful assortment of food. I almost ate here daily during my trip. Don’t miss it. Very crowded on weekends though but it is high season.

Not just a market but a great options for eating

By kbelle71 |

This place is across the street from the convention center and parking is at a garage across the street. Bring your parking ticket to get validation to get parking for $5 otherwise it’s $16 per hour! We got donuts at Belier’s which is always 30 people deep but the line goes fast. There is something for everyone to be happy eating.

a foodie's paradise

By bluwaters17 |

any type of food that you could imagine. something for everyone. So many great foods. If going around lunch time, expect a huge crowd with long lines and limited seating. The crowds dissipates after 2pm.

Fam and friends

By lateefh2017 |

This is must see place. Tons of things to do. There must be at least 100 different restaurants to chose from. All the desserts you need and want ( get the doughnuts 🍩 made in front of you). Indian, soul, vegan, American food. Home made biscuits, ice cream 🍨 and cheese steaks. Place gets crowded but you will find a place to sit. The market is huge and right in center city

staying warm when it is cold outside, lots to see

By Rosine B |

i loved the diversity of the booth in the market, it's almost like a french market, you can find every kind of food you can imagine, the atmosphere is really cool, and the toilets are clean! i have a nice salad and a soup, all i needed to go back to freezing Philadelphia outside!

Must see on your trip to Philly!

By WanderingWayfarer |

Something for everyone, from cheesesteak, Amish specialties, burgers, sushi, cannoli, funnel cakes, fresh produce, pizza, ice cream, ribs, donuts, and much much more. All counter service but there are seating areas. Restrooms are in the back and the lines are never too long. Don’t miss this place when you’re in Philly!

Lots of places to eat, none particularly good

By BernardSpinrad |

Based on previous reviews, we came in with great expectations for a good breakfast/early lunch. Walked the entire market, didn’t find anything to eat that we couldn’t find better somewhere else in Philadelphia. Disappointed

Great experience for lunch

By Brad F |

There are so many wonderful places to eat at this market. The 4th street cookie stall had awesome chocolate dipped cookies. We also had some good Chinese food.

Cool place

By Tasha E |

I visited this market as a teenage about 15 years ago. I returned with my husband and 11 year old. It was busy on a Sunday. There are so many cool food places. I wish that I hadn’t had a huge breakfast so that I could try lunch there. I did eat cake from Terminal Bros. It was awesome! There is a huge crowd, so beware. It’s a cool place to visit while in Philly.

Nice central location for a quick bite

By BrakiWorldTraveler |

The Reading market claims to be the oldest US market. It's in the very center of Philly and on the way wherever you go. It was also favorable for us to come inside to heat ourselves from the early Jan Arctic ice storm.
The market has all kinds of food, raw and prepared to eat, and as many said it's a foodie heaven. You could choose from meats, Philly steaks, Asian food, Mexican,...you name it. Apart from that there are souvenir and gifts stalls, so there's pretty much for everyone.

Worth a visit

By swansfromBoston |

My daughter and I stopped by for an hour right when it opened and it was blissfully uncrowded and we were able to park right outside. There were many shops to choose from. We had been advised by a shopkeeper that the pretzel company was not to be missed. We ordered 6 pretzels and honestly they were the best pretzels we have had. We also purchased a dozen donuts at a donut shop and nuts/watermelon gum from the candy shop .

The Best Market Ever!!!

The Reading Terminal Market is the Best market they have a little bit of everything.
All the food is Delicious!!
A Great Place to visit in Philadelphia!!!!!

Go hungry

By Charlie S |

It has a LOT of food options. Can get crowded but you can find a place to sit or wait 5 minutes for something to free up. Only complaint is it closes way to early.

A ton of Options

By Matt P |

This is a foody paradise. So many choices. You will need to be patient. It is very crowded. Something for everyone! Hot food cold foods and desserts.

By ria1741 |

It is a huge indoor market with lots of stalls. Very busy. Many options of different things to eat and buy.

FOOD FOOD FOOD

By Tara Heagele |

Wow! What an overwhelming experience (in a great way). This place is huge and packed to the walls with shops, food stands, and people. There were so many delicious looking and smelling options, that I couldn’t figure out what I wanted! There were donuts, bakeries, cheesesteaks, breakfast food, a buffet, bbq places, a Cajun food stand, Greek food, Indian food, seafood, delis, coffee shops, smoothie stands, and many more that I’m probably forgetting. My recommendation is to bring your appetite, plan to spend a few hours, and try a little something at multiple stands. You also have shops that sell bulk food items (like spices, nuts, candy, olive oil, and vinegar). Then there are florists and produce stands and little shops that sell imported decor and jewelry. Just a really cool experience at the Reading Terminal Market! In the end, I only ended up eating a donut. But it was the best donut I’ve ever had in my entire life! And I consider myself a donut expert. It was from Beiler’s bakery and it was a caramel apple pie donut.

Love love love

By unec |

I don’t know how to begin. This place is incredible: all kinds of restaurants and shops under one roof: Italian, Amish, Southern, Asian, American, ice cream, farmers market booths, stalls, shops etc. Oh my... I wanted to try everything and eat at every place but alas 2 days were not enough.
You must visit this place if you are anywhere near.

Wow -- Just Wow

By elandja |

There is something for everyone at the Reading Terminal Market -- from baked good to candy to cheese steaks to pizza, from fresh fruits and vegetables to smoothies and ice cream -- so many, many choices. It reminds me of Faneuil Hall in Boston only much, much bigger. The Market is right across the street from the Convention Center so it was easy to pick up something to eat -- however it gets very, very crowded. Worth more than one trip to take it all in.

Amazing Mix of Restaurants

By Jim B |

I ate at 3 restaurants in this chaotic market. I was very much akin to a very large, crowded food court. There are restaurants for everyone, cheese steaks, vegan, gluten free, bakeries, and burgers. Not fancy dining, but great food!

Please visit here

By Michelle Manison |

An amazing array of foods from all over the world to choose from. When we visited we had pasta from a place called George’s and it was soooooooo good! The most popular place in the market seems to be Beilers which specialises in donuts. We went to see what all the fuss was about and we wish we had discovered it sooner. They aren’t conventional donuts because they don’t have a hole in the middle but they are to die for! Every flavour you could think of they sell. You will not be disappointed if you visit this place.

Unique and tons of fun

By Donna F |

I had more fun at the Reading Terminal Market. It was mind-boggling to see all of the goods/foods available for sale. I was hungry before I entered; I was starving pretty soon after going in!!! Ate a fabulous Philly cheesesteak sandwich while I was there - yum!!

We had to walk around a little bit before we found a place to sit down and eat our sandwiches, but that was because the place was so crowded. While it was crowded, it wasn't difficult to move about and, at least for our sandwich, it was a very short line and wait.

You could do some awesome people watching here - it was packed with every kind of person imaginable. I had never been anywhere like Reading Terminal Market. I just loved it.

We considered going back for dinner with a group but decided it wasn't a great place for a group who wanted to sit and visit. It was too loud. And, there were no tables that we saw that would have been good for a group of people to sit around and talk.

If there's any way at all that you can spend some time there, go!!! I would have loved to have had half a day or more to spend just there. Unfortunately, we only had a half day to see all of the sights we were going to see in Philly so we had to rush through.

Bustling

By Aint_Life_Great |

Bustling market with fresh food, butchers, take away food options. There were a few tables where you could sit and eat. Don’t miss the apple dumplings at Dutch Eating Place!

Great place

By Denter |

Great place lots of different places to eat. Breakfast, dinner, lunch desserts, shops, and everything I tried was good.

so many choices!!

By sandra f |

This historic building was packed with vendors and customers pouring in to buy a snack or a meal. We did have to wait for people to leave to find a table to sit down and eat our meals. Lots of food choices. Lots of traditional Pennsylvania dutch foods and baked goods. I actually had Mexican food and my husband went with deli food.

Still going strong

By richard f |

I was at the Reading Terminal Market in 1971, 1991? and 2018. It hasn't lost a bit of it's vibrancy. It's still well-kept, still has interesting food shops and good sandwich type food to eat there.

Everybody can find something yummy here

By SpanishteacherMD |

I've been here before, and had to return. You know what they say, to get a good pulse of a city, head to the market. Reading Terminal Market provides perfect insight into what makes this awesome city tick. Tons of great food, fresh meats, seafood, meals to enjoy either sitting down or on the go. All types of food: Italian, Asian, comfort food of all types, bread and pastries, fruit stands, Flower shops, gift stands, places for great coffee, smoothies, juices, desserts, anything and everything you can possibly look for, is right here in Reading Terminal Market. Highly recommended is the Crepe stand where they will make literally any crepe you want, sweet, savory, both, whatever. They're awesome and the quality is fantastic. The other location I tried this trip was Kamal's Middle Eastern food. They have everything, food, fresh juice, smoothies (which they will make any variety and kind you want...fresh ingredients blended right before you), desserts of every type that you will only find in the Middle East. This place is great and it helps to make Reading Terminal Market not only a fun place to visit, but it showcases the multi-cultural heritage that Philly offers.

WOW and YUM!

By RSN31 |

I don't even know where to begin trying to explain this place! The sheer volume and breadth of food vendors is unlike anything I have ever seen and I travel quite extensively AND intensively! I don't think there's a food type that you can not find at at least one vendor for, ranging from delis to produce and meat shops and multiple ethnic options and ice cream and bakeries and donuts and pickles and everything you can imagine! I was in awe. Words and/or photos can not do this place justice. Go for the experience, the atmosphere and of course, the food!

Foodies Paradise

By WilSc |

I have visited many markets but this one has to be one of the best. The broad selection of food and delicacies on offer was incredible. Go hungry!

Must do !

By StephenCross |

Weird that everything is mixed together. Food, food and food. Veggie stuff and everything else. Herbs , spices the lot.intreating to browse around for an hour. Fascinating actually.

A must visit

By Kate7316 |

It is a must place when you visit Philadelphia. A place that tourists visit but lots of locals eat, have a drink or shop at this covered market. Huge variety of bakery, hot food, drinks, cheeses, sweets, just mentioning a few kinds as you can literally find whatever you can think of. You won't regret it even if you have to walk for it.

Steak Sandwich

By Jane2458 |

We were told that Reading Terminal Market was a must see, it was a vast area of stalls selling everything from ice cream to Philladelpia's famous steak Sandwich. We had amazing icecream there aslo a steak Sandwich. Well worth a visit or two if you the chance.

A fun stop

By Lisa |

Reading Market was a fun stop but very crowded, loud and a bit overwhelming. If you have small children with you, hold onto their hands so they aren’t lost in the crowd if enticed away by the candy, pastries, ice cream, and cookie vendors ! Be prepared to wait and jostle your way to the vendors. A fun place to visit and I would recommend it. We enjoyed a yummy lunch at the Dutch Eating Place. having visited it once, I’m not sure I would return unless earlier in the day but it is a must do if you’re in Philadelphia.

Food Glorious Food

By NJ-Surfcrab |

Large building with multiple stalls. Some shopping, but mostly food of all types to eat in an informal setting. Definitely not high end, but a gret place to go if you like to sample things you might not find in other places and great variations of food you will find at home. Inexpensive for a big city. Generous portions. Close to the convention center. Some times it is difficult to find a seat. There is a general seating area and some places have their own areas. We shared a table with a group of students from Peru who spoke English and were there as delegates to a Youth Convention. It was a memorable experience. We always stop at the Amish stand for big, soft pretzels no matter what else. Dres informally, but you will see folks in suits as well -- usually at an event at the convention center or from local offices. If you have access to your car, there's a lot of fresh produce, meat, cheese, fish, nuts, candy etc to take home. Bring a cooler.

Awesome food selection

By KD0608 |

Great options for food from breakfast to dessert. Lots of delicious things to try. It is difficult to settle on one restaurant! Everyone can split up and find something they love. The only drawback here is seating. Don’t plan on sitting with your food, it can be really challenging to find a table especially for a larger group. Definitely stop by though if you are at the Convention Center!

One Stop Shop

By Angela SP |

I stumble on this place during a recent visit to Philly. I loved it so much that I went back twice in one day. Some many options in one place. This place has restaurants, bakeries, candy shop, mini market and so much more. If you are looking for food, you cant go wrong by visiting this place.

A must see Market

By D i |

We went here in the morning before seeing other sites near by. What a bustling large market with fresh produce and many cuisines with take-out food. Didn't see any place for people to eat, but we didn't eat there. We found it worth seeing as it had Philly's character we felt in this market.

Just Do It

By Julie P |

This place is incredible. I wish we had more time here. Flowers, Breads, Sweets, Fish, Meats, Fruits and Vegetables.

A WOW!!!

By ParTcake |

I come from Indianapolis and the market there has struggled to keep merchants...NOT this market...I was a great place to see the food available and the other stands. Ate at Molly's which has seating and table service and this is a good thing because seating is hard to find.

Bring your hungry belly!

By Stephanie S |

This place is incredible. I’ve never seen anything like it. Definitely allow yourself to have time here because there’s so many cool food, places, and vendors. I don’t think there was one thing they didn’t have here. Bring an appetite because there’s a lot to choose from. We tried Amish donuts and a famous fourth street chocolate chip cookie and we enjoyed both. I definitely would come back and try more food places. I saw Sushi pizza pasta, pickles, ice cream, meat markets, fish markets, cheese markets, pretty much anything you could think of. A very cool historic place.

Mobbed but so fun

By Corinne B |

Adjacent to the convention center, this market is incredible. It features a wide variety of food vendors (many different ethnicities) as well as butcher and cheese shops and produce markets. Very, very crowded but a wonderful experience.

What a pleasant surprise!

By Carole K |

We were in Philadelphia overnight awaiting a flight out the next day. With nothing to do as we had no car, a kind gentleman suggested we take the train from the airport and go visit Reading Terminal Market. Not knowing what or where we were going we were in for a big surprise! What fun, there was a group of musicians playing outside the market, and inside there was a multitude of of enticing food vendors. So many and such variety it was hard to decide what to eat. We settled on a bar and grill inside, and it was wonderful. A note to beer lovers, you can buy beer to go, at the bar and grill. Enjoy your suds while you stroll around tasting the offerings of the many vendors.

Love this place!

By Civanderson |

I go to Philly just so I can spend everyday eating at The Redding Terminal Market. The place is huge and offers everything your stomach may fancy. From succulent duck to ribs to the best pork sandwich ever, the (must get the)cheese sandwich to fresh fruits and veggies to desserts. You want Italian? You got it! You want to gorge on fresh just made doughnuts? absolutely! You're craving Indian or how about some turkey for lunch? Gobble Gobble, Nom Nom! Having a dinner party and you need some fresh seafood and quality meats? Don't fret. Want to have the fluffiest pancakes and omelettes? The Dutch Eating is a must! Green juices galore! Thai noodle heaven! Deli delights! Desserts! Candy! Even skincare. It's awesome and cheap! Did I mention AWESOME and CHEAP?

Don't go if you are on a diet

By wendymF3327FO |

What fun and variety of markets and food. Everything under one roof; subs, cheese steaks, breakfast bagels, bakeries, meat markets. You can have a whole turkey dinner or an egg roll. You have to go just to see a totally different way to eat and shop.

All you need.

By Sierra W |

You can find all you need freshly cooked or meats, seafood, vegetables and fruits. Reading terminal is costly but worth ever penny.

What a fabolous Market, don‘t miss it!!

By Demetrio |

The Reading Terminal Market is the best market I have ever visited, even the one in London can‘t compete. The location is fabolous, the choice of dishes, dessert, restaurant really great 😊 You got everything from sweet, salty and flavoury....you need a week to try them all!!! What to say, get there and start to enjoy!!

everything you could want in delicious food

By gay e |

best bet_ go on a Tuesday thru Saturday when the Amish area there--Beilers bakery is to die for and they charge practically nothing--I love their creamy whoopie pies in all three flavors-they now make fresh donuts and they are all incredible. There is a fabulous ice cream place and a creperie which makes wonderful savory and sweet crepes-my favorite being the blt. Go in early March and catch the Philadelphia Flower Show across the street-that should be listed under major attractions in Philadelphia. I have tried to recommend it on this site. take out food , fresh eggs and meats and cheese-fabulous from one end to the other-can be crowded, but go!

Fun Visit and Unusual Food Choices

By Jan S |

I grew up in Philly and now live in CA. I love to go to the Reading Terminal when I visit family. It’s wonderful to see the vast array of food selections. The Pennsylvania Dutch display their wares and good eats. There are many kitchen gadgets that are available. Good for buying gifts for cooks!

What to eat first?

By IJR |

The market offers a huge selection of produce plus baked goods, flowers, meat, beers, ice cream, and an amazing variety of food from corndogs to Thai food to places to try Philly cheesesteak sandwiches. The lines went fast at Spadero's where I got my cheesesteak and at Beiler's Bakery where I got my doughnuts. All good. Crowded but orderly lines! A challenge to find a place to sit when it is busy.

Wonderful Foodie Experience

By Dave L |

This place reminded me of Fanueil Hall in Boston...if that had about 4 times the food offerings! It was really amazing! You will certainly be able to find something to eat for every member of your party.

Foodie Paradise!!

By Donald H |

This is a must stop for foodies in Philadelphia!! Ate there twice and wished had more time! Dutch Eating Place for Breakfast-and DiNics for lunch!! Would fly back to Philly just to keep eating here! Prices extremely reasonable. Expect crowds but well worth it!!

Awesome Food

By Ken J |

A great place to get a taste of Philadelphia. You have to go to Dinnicks and get a roast pork and broccoli rabe sandwich. Save room for something sweet form one of the many bakeries. And the donuts looked fantastic. Something for everyone but only open until 6 pm.

A Philadelphia tradition

By deecook25 |

So many different food vendors, it's hard to decide which place to select. There is something for everyone!

Go there hungry

By flolass |

Went here with family during our trip to Philadelphia. Very busy market with lots of selections. Prepared foods, meats, flowers, Amish goods, flowers, etc. Great place to eat and browse! Parking can be tough but there is a garage very close by. Make sure to get the ticket validated when you buy something at the market, it will discount the price.

Great City Market

By Mark G |

The Reading Terminal Market was founded in 1893 and they are celebrating their 125th anniversary this year. Located next to the convention center it was easy to find but parking was so expensive I was going to drive away until I found the Hilton Garden Inn garage at 11th and Arch that offered $4 Market parking with a purchase of $10 or more and a merchant validated ticket stub. Well worth the stop.
The large market has it all, produce, chocolates, flowers, bakeries, seafood and restaurant stalls of every kind including a bar and a winery. We went for the Philly bacon cheesesteaks, one with Cheez Whiz and the other with provolone. Topping it off with a cran-orange scone, we found plenty of seating at noon on Valentine's Day, but I could see how seating could be a problem on their busiest days. Many large cities have these great markets and it was nice to enjoy the food, history and atmosphere.

One of the Oldest, Still One of the Best

By Clayton2 |

One of the oldest farmers markets in the country is one of the best spots to visit in downtown Philadelphia. Reading Terminal Market has it all... A wide variety of places to eat, flowers, dry goods and of course gift shops. But most impressive, is the wide selection of produce, meats, seafood, cheeses, candy, etc. If you're looking for something to eat or cook while in Philadelphia the Reading Terminal Market is he place to be. On her recent visit we have a cheese steak for lunch, shopped for table linens and bought seafood for dinner… all within the space of about 50 feet. The market is always very busy, but the vendors provide excellent service and products. Reading Terminal Market is located right by the convention center and above Jefferson Station which provides easy access via regional rail. Highly recommend a visit when you are in town.

So Many Choices, So Little Time

By Max P |

I visited RTM last year and took my family this time. the vendors were awesome, particularly if you ask questions and engage. They were very willing to give advice and tell their favorites and what to ask for. I particularly enjoyed the cheese monger and apple dumpling booth! There is something for everyone here. I must stop in downtown Philly. Beware it closes early.

Great for lunch

Fantastic selection of sandwiches, easy quick food joints and friendly unpretentious places. I tried the cheesesteak and the seafood bar and the ice creams and was pleasantly surprised every time. Service friendly and efficient, perfect for a quick lunch. I’m going back tomorrow 😊

Fun, flavorful, eclectic hub in downtown Phlly

By LisaKCharlie |

No visit is complete to Philadelphia without at least one stop at Reading Terminal Market. The bustling booths filled with a variety of ethnic dishes and baked goods, gifts, and special foods is filled with too many temptations to sample in one visit. Try to hit the market before of after lunch to avoid the crowds which can be nutty, especially if there is a convention nearby. You may need to find seating elsewhere since it's limited inside the building, but it's worth it in order to sample the endless variety of delicious goods.

Must see!

By Janet S |

Loved this place. We were staying close by and ate at several of the restaurants! Breakfast, lunch (Philly cheese steak) and awesome ice cream! Wish there was one of these where I live. There is a map at the information desk.
Biggest complaint is that they close at 6

Bad timing.

By Scotty |

I was there on a Saturday around 2 pm. The place was packed, I had a quick lunch of gumbo (very good) and left. It was really too crowded to enjoy. Plenty of food stands of all varieties, limited places to sit and eat. Validate parking if you buy more than $10 worth of merchandise.

Great atmosphere.

By StanEMiles |

Busy for a Monday at lunch time, but great visit. Love to return. Eat at Tootsie. Needed a Philly cheese steak

Great market

By Frenchhoosier |

Great place with many vendors selling all kinds of food. During the week, it opens at 8 and close at 5.

Shop till you drop, eat, drink and spend money

By ruthielong58 |

This is a really fun place. Lots of individual shops all under one roof. Every kind of food you can imagine, produce, butcher shops, or ready to eat (and drink). Sit at a bar, have a beer and do a little people watching. Have a meal, or a sweet treat. Plan to spend a couple of hours, and bring your wallet, you will find things you want to buy.

Foodie paradise

By Bill M |

Tons of options for some good eats. I like the lay out and vendors are generally friendly. The only thing I have to criticize was the only bar in the market was very limited in their offerings. No negronis, no mojitos, no Moscow mules, come on guys!

Philly June Trip

Very vibrant place! Food, crafts, shopping. Great variety of restaurants to choose from, American, Oriental, Mexican, Seafood. You can also purchase meats, cheeses and vegies to take home and cook your own meal.

Very crowded and noisy vibe is you enjoy this

Recommend to make this!

By Scott T |

Really nice but a bit overwelming. A neat place to go while in Philadelphia. My wife likes these kind of places and it exceeded our expectations. We had lunch and of course ice cream while visiting. Awesome!

Chaos with great food mixed into the equation

By jerryr111 |

I’m not sure what time of day or what day of the week you have to go here to avoid a crowd, but I guarantee that it will be worth the effort to work your way through the aisles for the wonderful variety of food and groceries, bakery and candy. The Amish farmers and bakers are here except on Sunday so make sure you visit their booths. My favorite is the booth that specializes in turkey and it has never failed to be wonderful.

Wonderful place to eat!

By AEB_MN |

This is much like other food halls across the country--it reminded me a lot of Grand Central Market in Los Angeles. Located right by the Convention Center, you can walk in and find loads of food options, whether you want something to eat there, a ready-made dish to take home, or just to do some shopping for fresh and local foods. You can find it all here! Of course, it gets pretty crowded right around the noon hour, so if you can go slightly early or slightly late, that's better. There are a couple of fairly good-sized seating areas, and several places have their own eating counters. Really great option if everyone wants something different and you just can't agree on one thing!

So many great places to eat!

By Susan G |

We spontaneously stopped here for some lunch. While the traffic getting in and out was tedious, this place was fun. I had never had an authentic Philly Cheesesteak and I am now a big fan. Delicious! So many fun places to eat and walk around.

Supermarket on Steriods

By Ellenlyn |

Philadelphia tourists have to put this on the list. Food vendors, deli markets, flowers, baked goods, hand crafted items, all kinds of things! One right after another in an indoor setting. You don't have to spend a penny, but you probably will. We ate an awesome cheese steak sandwich Spataros and bought some home made fudge at Sweet As Fudge Candy store (so much fun in there). I really could have spent more time in there, but my wallet told me to leave. We saw locals who presumably shop often.

Great Philly experience

By Thiago |

Huge food market with numerous restaurants from all different parts of the world. It's a great destination for whenever in Philly, especially if one is hungry.

Variety, entertaining food!

By GabeKatz |

When visiting The convention center, this is a highlight to stop in, walk around and grab some fantastic food!
Great history to this place (read the website) and such a pleasure to feel the heartbeat of Philadelphia in here.

Our go to place for company!

By buckigirl51_10 |

Everyone is able to find something to love here! We go for old favorites and to discover what’s new as the Market is always reinventing itself. There are many ethnic food choices as well as Philly specialties (cheesesteaks and roast pork sandwiches). The Amish who live relatively near in th outlying PA countryside are very well represented with stands selling full meals, home baked goods and some of the best doughnuts and soft pretzels around. However, please note that while the Market itself is open seven days a week, the Amish observe Sunday as a day of worship and rest, so no Sunday sales at any of their stands.

The Market also has fresh meat and seafood counters, along with some fresh produce and cut flowers. On my last trip I bought a nice bottle of olive oil that I chose after tasting many different varieties. There is a spice shop, cookbook stall, table linen stall. It has been a few months since I was last here, but wouldn’t be surprised if there’s something new to enjoy!

What a place!

By wbondar |

Greetings All, David and I made this another stop on our visit. Walked in and a WOW hit me! So many different vendors of all types selling there wares. Talk about a food court, just awesome, you can find anything here, good price's and great food! Enjoy! Cheers! William

Pike's Market on Steroids!

By Dana E |

I could spend a month in this market and not get to everything. Loved everything about the atmosphere, service, and energy (vibe) of the place. Philly, you are so lucky!

Love it

By ycram |

OMG This is a required visit for sure! Hustle and bustle but you will find the best foods in the land and great prices!

Several choices of food

By moseysmelody |

We stopped in here for lunch and was amazed with all the choices of places to eat. You can walk around this place for hours. Trying to find a table to sit can be hard because there is so many people in there.

Crazy Good Food

By Bernard L. Fontaine, Jr. |

The aroma from each vendor was so enticing!! We wanted to eat our way around while site seeing everything else there was to offer. Parking was a breeze next door and they compensate you if you spend at least $25 at certain vendors.

Some of the Amish meats are wonderful but not preserved so you need to eat them soon. The fruits and veggies are so fresh. There are condiments that cannot be found anywhere else. Certainly not in a traditional supermarket.

The only drawback is the crowd of people. It is difficult to walk around sometimes so go on a workday or rainy weekend. Sometimes the winter months are less crowded. In any event, this is truly a place not to miss if you yin Philadelphia.

Everything you could desire

By MiMiLavette |

The Reading Terminal is located in the heart of Center City Philadelphia. One of the great things about the Reading terminal is that they have many types of cuisine. Everything from seafood Soulfood Asian cuisine chocolate confections to herbs and spices. They also sell fresh fish fruits and vegetables.

Love this place- excellent variety of wonderful foods!

By Cyndi-Ryan |

Our family along with our friends visiting from Italy couldn't get enough of this place. We stopped for lunch and all had many choices from Indian, to Mexican, to the Philly Cheesesteaks, pretzels, donuts and cookies! A feast for the eyes and stomach. We parked in the garage next to the market and got validated parking after a purchase of $10.

A “must-visit” extravaganza in Philadelphia.

By kvasir |

A lively bustling environment, with stallholders offering an exceptional diversity of fresh meats, fish, poultry, cheeses, fruits, flowers, vegetables, spices, as well as some non-food products such as clothing or jewellery. The catering operations too are impressive- freshly prepared, in generous portions, and tasty. Wow!

A Must Visit in Philadelphia

By Aaron W |

Our family of four loved the Reading Terminal Market and all the sites and smells inside. Oddly, DiNics was very good, but not the star of the show on our trip. The fresh soft pretzels were amazing and at three for six dollars, couldn't be beat.

We easily found seats, but were there around 11:00. It was getting much busier as we were wrapping up. As Anthony Bourdain said, the soul of a city is in it's market. Enjoy a few hours here on your trip to Philly.

Overcrowded place

By kritilakhwani86 |

It is the place we had our lunch.
Difficult to find veg options still 1-2 shops offer it.
It is really very crowded and we ordered take away. Food was nice .
Located in downtown so a must place to visit

The Disneyland of Food

By Armené H |

How can you not love this place!? It's exciting on every sensory front -- tantalizing aromas, bustling shoppers, accented international voices, and then -- there are the tastes. Amish apple dumplings, cheeses and jams, Italian pizza and cannoli, Chinese specialties, Philly cheesesteaks and pulled pork sandwiches. There are groceries, fresh produce from local farmers, ice cream, chocolates in unique shapes (of feet, livers, hearts!), cookies, and more. But the best part? The chance to sit down with Philly locals and people from around the world. I know no other place like it. So, if you're visiting Philly, this is a MUST DO on your tour stop.

Just a tip: If this is your first time, the market can be overwhelming. Try to go a bit before the lunch rush to walk around and scope out the goods before you decide what to buy or eat. At the corner of the market is a directory mapping out the vendors.

Foodie Heaven

By Cynthia L |

If you're a foodie, you will absolutely fall in love with this place. Come here for a stroll - as quick as 15 minutes or as long as a couple hours. This place is food heaven with a little bit of every cuisine (American, Thai, Greek, Mexican, etc.), butchers, cheeses, seafood, Dutch Goods, homemade goods, and much more!

We came here on a Saturday morning and loved the hustle and bustle of it all (tourists and locals). A good amount of the prepared food stands were still not open and prepping for the day. I didn't check out the pricing for a lot of the food stands, but I'm going to say its not going to be the complete cheapest place to buy stuff, but it also won't be the most expensive.

*Restrooms, ATMs & seating available.
*If you have little ones, the stroller will be ok, but a tight squeeze in some areas.

An overpriced lunch

By Allan R |

Had jury duty for the city, just down the block is the market. Granted, it's loaded with eateries, bakeries, butcher's, etc. I chose a place called DeNics for a roast pork sandwich. The sandwich was great, but, $14.00 for a sandwich and a drink. Even in 2018 Philadelphia, I feel the cost is very excessive.

Great experience

By TripPhotographer52 |

I loved this place and only got to see a part of it. W went to the deli near the center and my wife and a friend got middle eastern food. I also got some delicious chocolates. So many interesting options.

Food Lovers Dream

By Dawn R |

I was really looking forward to stopping at the Market, however my husband is a bit of crank and was not prepared for large crowds and a lot of lines. I plopped him down in a bar (thank you Reading!) and wandered around. You can find just about anything in the Market, the vendors are fun and engaging.

I enjoyed myself and my husband enjoyed the bar. All in all it was a win!

Great indoor market

By JazzyYazzy |

This is another must-see place in Philly. It is of course a market for grocery shopping but you also have great food and should have lunch here she you can try some of the Amish delicacies. Doughnuts if you like them but most of all the hot apple dumpling from the Dutch eating place, best ever!!

Food, more food, and everything else

By em-2115 |

This place had all kinds of food and small shops. There were so many choices and things to do, but the places I went to were amazing! I would recommend sampling honey at the bee products shop and trying out the crepes restaurant. I would also arrive early; at 11:30 on a Wednesday there were no lines, but by 1:00 there were so many people. There's no question though: this is an absolute must when in Phily.

Your Patience Will Be Rewarded

By John G |

If you are visiting Philly, a stop at the Reading Terminal Market is a must, but, caveat emptor, you are going to need patience (and a friend who is willing to locate and claim a couple of chairs at a table) in order to enjoy the experience. Especially during the peak hours, roughly from 11:00 to 2:00, the Terminal can be a crush and your patience can wear thin waiting in long lines. Ah, but the rewards! Beiler’s Doughnuts, Beck’s Cajun Cafe, Olympia Gyro, DiNic’s, Bassett’s Ice Cream to name just a few. Sine Bassett’s is on the outer edge of the market and easily accessible from the street, I’ll sometimes pop in just for some of their amazingly good ice cream. Service is quick as lightning. I’ll usually say, “cone, two flavors, you pick ‘em” and then be pleasantly surprised. Some Philadelphians believe this is the only market of its kind in the US. Although it may be unique in certain ways it is not alone. Other great food halls and markets, in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Chicago, Minneapolis, San Francisco, Seattle, etc, are equally great, some even better, but Reading is an experience the wait.

If You Like to Eat and Shop for Food, Come Visit

By HoneyBrown1976 |

There's no way you'd be disappointed visiting this market, especially if you're hungry. You can find almost every kind of food. From bread to pastries to fresh oysters, this market has it.

Bring an empty stomach on your trip!

Go hungry

By Tricia L |

You can't go wrong going to Reading Terminal Market if you're hungry. There is something for everyone. My only complaint is I'm not here often enough to try everything. Herschel pastrami and DiNics roasted pork are stellar choices. Depending on your appetite you may want to split one with a companion. Portions are gigantic.

Always so so so busy - anything you can think of, they have it.

By Ukienomad |

This place is always a hustle and bustle with tons of people, especially at lunch time. Large selection of just about anything you can think of to eat or drink. Eating establishments are Typically overpriced but you’re coming for the experience so expect to pay for it. Vegetable stands are pretty reasonable. You can find any kind of meat, fish, poultry you can think of and stuff you never thought existed. A real fun place to come but make sure you’re handbag is zipped, and fastened - just saying.

Crazy busy

By 968rhondal |

We stopped here thinking that we would be able just to get a good Philly cheese steak while we were in Philadelphia. This place was so crowded that you could not move. The variety of food there is amazing. We did eat a Philly from George’s. I was not impressed. We did buy jerky from the Amish meat market. It was very good.

Great for Breakfast and Lunch

By Ken R |

Vendors are set up to serve every type of food; from Cheesesteaks to pierogies. We had to lunches there and enjoyed sitting at the tables jammed in with everybody else. The food is great and reasonably priced.

Best to wonder around and look at everything or you might miss your favorite.

DiNic’s Roast Pork Sandwich

By Tim G T |

This is a must stop when I visit the City of Brotherly Love. This sandwich is damn near perfect. Tender tasty thin sliced pork, sharp cheese, and broccolini on a fresh Philly roll. Alway a line but it moves very fast. Bottom line is it’s worth any wait.

WOW, what a fun place to eat and shop

By Becky V |

WOW, what a fun place to eat and shop! we visited the Reading Terminal market recently and were very impressed by the assortment of food stores and shops too.

Must-do in Philadelphia!

By Sheryl S |

This “indoor, year-round farmers’ market” is much more than that; it's an active, pulsating heart of Philadelphia, steeped in history and tradition. During lunch hour, it's a teeming mass of people grabbing lunch (of almost any variety you can think of: Asian, burger, melted cheese, deli, Italian, Mexican, seafood, Southern, Cajun, etc, etc.) and searching for a place at one of the long tables in the center of the market. One of these sandwiches was named "the best sandwich in America” by a prominent travel magazine: this is the pork sandwich from Dinic's — but you can't go wrong with any other choices from them, or anyone else in the market. You can get genuine Basset's Ice Cream (try the caramel). You can get a Philly cheesesteak there that's better than the more famous (but touristy and inferior) Gino's or Pat's. There are also butchers, fish shops, poultry stands, produce shops, cheese shops, spice shops, bakeries (you have to try the "German butter cake” from the Flying Monkey bakery: it's not what you might think, but it's very rich, so prepare to share), coffee shops, donut shops, sweet shops, olive oil vendors, and all kinds of other specialties I can't even remember right now. The Pennsylvania Dutch have many stands, where they sell produce, meats, crafts, preserves, etc. Also, there are other types of vendors, like crafts, flowers, jewelry, etc. (The market closes by about 6 pm, and the Pennsylvania Dutch stands aren't open on Sundays or Mondays; those days, the market is quieter, but not as interesting.). Do at least stop in and take a look around. The restrooms are amazingly clean and well-attended for public restrooms.

Hella Food!

By GratefulServant |

Went to the market on Saturday and on Monday. Saturday morning was packed full of people, Monday was way less crowded. Original Turkey, Kamal's Mediterranean, Fox and Sons Fancy Corn Dogs (5/5), and Hershel's East Side Deli (5/5), is where we ate on our visits. Fox and Sons is 100% gluten free! Hershel's made the best Ruben I've tasted. Original Turkey (4/5) was good and Kamal's shawarma (4/5) was good. We also stopped and bought some juice from Really Reel Ginger (5/5). We were really happy with the visit here, highly suggest visiting this place.

So tempting!

By inbrazilfornow |

This is a great place to browse market stalls and to engage in food voyeurism. When you can no longer hold out- "Dutch Eating Place" and "Down Home Diner" do not disappoint. Like everywhere else in Philadelphia, service people are helpful, kind, professional, and sincere.

OMG, every city should have one!

By Big Easy G |

I’ve never experienced anything like this market. Foodie Heaven fo sho! So many choices for food and drinks to mention

sensory overload

By pbaccash26 |

What a wonderful place to visit see everything smell all the foods and feast on whatever you desire. The pennsylvania Dutch pretzels are the best in the world. Indulge. The middle Eastern food is excellent. The flowers are beautiful The spices are awesome

So Many Choices!

By Alice M |

This is a giant hall filled with so many food options that they give you a "map" when you come in. We stopped by to find some lunch one afternoon. There were so many different choices, we decided to walk around and take a look at all the different vendors before we settled on a place with counter seats. It was very loud and very busy the entire time that we were there.

Wow! What an eyeful!

By Kathyindenver |

The last public market we visited was in Vietnam. This amazing place is every bit as colorful and interesting. So much to see—it’s huge. Culturally fascinating. Generally crowded, but worth navigating. A must see!

Good way to spend a couple of hours

By PSoTD |

And if you spend ten bucks inside and get your parking ticket validated, you save a lot on the parking garage.

We had a grilled cheese sandwich lunch - it is a specialty place there - although I really was tempted to eat at the German deli. We'll be back the next time we have a few hours in Philadelphia.

Soup to nuts, it has it all. And the table cloth

By dbbarker |

Soooooo hard to decide what to eat. From Amish Noodle soup, fab deli, Momma's Italian, Mid Eastern, etc. Baked goods, icecream, butcher shops, chocolate, coffee, spices, honey, nuts, produce, kitchen goods, handmade sewn items. And more.

Similar to other markets in the US and Toronto

By Kate Illinois1 |

Crazy busy around noon. Lines long at popular vendors. Limited seats to sit and eat. On a hot day, it's uncomfortable standing in lines....temperature similar to outside. Recommend Hershel's pastrami reuben sandwich. Restrooms on site.

What a great surprise

By DakotaAlex |

I was in for a trade show and stayed the Hilton when I saw the crowds going in ant I dropped my luggage and went over wow. They have everything and everywhere you have to look fast and walk fast or you can get stuck in the crowd. A must do for any visitor

Great market

By Potomac_11 |

This is a terrific market, especially as it reflects the city of Philadelphia very well. All sorts of fresh, prepared, and packaged food items are available in a crowded and lively setting of commerce.

I LOVE READING TERMINAL MARKET!

By LCH |

Not sure how many times I visited RTM during my house-hunt trips to Philly - many times! Enough times to have favorites already - donuts, pork sandwiches, cookies, pizza bread, crepes, iced tea, and more - with still so much more left to try! This is one of my top favorite places in Philly to visit - just in general, and for all the food options. Definitely a foodie's paradise!

Bustling

By Roses |

Love the energetic, lively vibe here.. It's full of colors, people, and options whether you're looking for a drink, a treat, a meal, or just some flowers. Their grocery section even has fun neon lights all across their wall, haha.

Deliciousness

By DMG1009 |

We enjoyed a Roast Beef sandwich at Dinic's and the best Mac & Cheese I've ever had from Hunger burger!! Love this place! The smells are heavenly!

Sensory overload--but in a good way!

By Carol A |

This primarily food-centered market is a true experience! Fresh meat, cheeses, and produce are available, as well as fresh-baked breads and pastries and a wonderful variety of prepared foods (including the famous Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches). It's great fun to just wander around here, pick up a little of this and that, then grab a coffee and pastry and people watch for a while.

Crowded but so much fun!

By Stefanie V |

I loved the Philadelphia cheese steak! it is a must dish to eat when you are there!

Also they had the best chocolate on the market and a lot of other choices. Fun bars and it is also fun for me as a dutchie to just sit there and watch people come and go.

Beautiful chaos

By TamB77 |

This busy and crowded market offers a variety of amazing experiences for all of the senses. There are so many things to choose from, we find ourselves wishing we had more than an hour to spend there.

Foodie Terminal

By Ⓜ️ MrMoreLight |

Visited in June 2016, Reading Terminal is an indoor only food market, equally divided between raw ingredients (markets) and on-site/take away restaurant stalls, some gifts and/or flowers stalls.

While there is something for everyone, I sampled Dinic's roast pork sandwiches (see my review) and 4 seasons juice bar, where I recommend the highlighted (see picture) wheatgrass/pineapple/apple/lemon smoothie. I had it twice, best one I had since Hawaii.

I was there on a Saturday which made walking around not that much of a pleasant experience, try to avoid that time. Set in a historic train terminal, I usually prefer open air markets but the historic setting more than makes up for it, and is a worthwhile visit - try to spot the glorious historic pictures around the building.

The layout make it pleasant to walk, rather narrow walkways though, still gives out a nice labyrinthine feel like the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, add very nicely designed neon signs left and right.

Overall a very nice visit, above average, avoid Saturdays at all costs.

Reading Market

By Janice K |

Do believe they have a little bit of everything! Very crowded. Stores seem to be grouped by sections but I would like to have a map to keep from walking it all! LOTS of food options. This is NOT a mall, not that type of shopping. Several little specialty shops but lots of food shopping booths.
