This place can be so much more, if the city will allow or hire someone with no ties to the city or commission. Everything is so political which people forget what life is all about.

The river walk it’s self is amazing for great leisurely strolls and for very pretty views. You can see the properties located across the river and stroll along the path. The only down side is the area you have to traverse to get there. The downtown Augusta area especially broad street needs some money from the city put into it. The shops are boarded up and the smell from the piles of garbage are enough to make you gag. There a couple of little bars and restaurants that are worth visiting but expect to be disappointed by the views on the way to the river walk.

We were here for the Masters, and had a day off. Our first choice was the Riverwalk. The lower level path is tranquil and lovely, with great views of the river, the train bridge, and more. The upper level has numerous historical plaques with photos on a great many topics, all entertaining and educational. There are lots of water fountains, a real benefit. Unfortunately, the adjacent Arts Museum is closed on Mondays, so we could not enjoy that.

good to see and walk or run. it was easy to walk on. we really enjoyed it. we went in early evening by the shuttle.

Spent an hour over the weekend on a walk here while in town for a wedding. Just a very nice pleasant experience. If the weathers nice it's a great way to get some exercise and and a great view

This place is beautiful! Walking along the river is so serene. Don't forget to take pictures of the 5th street bridge. Ours came out great. There are lots of local restaurants in the area for good food, cocktails, and atmosphere. Definitely a must see!

Walking along the river is great, my only complaint is that it is not long enough. However, really has great views of the SC side.

Very nicely laid out walk on top of the river containment dike. Very well done with display boards explaining the history of Augusta and it’s battle with river containment and flooding. The roots of some trees are making a few sections more difficult. Not for those who can’t walk stairs. There are a few ramps that show where to get up with a walker.

The Riverwalk is a nice place to take the family on a daytime outing. It is a beautiful and a fun learning experience. There is a small park for the little ones to play. It’s a nice little stroll with historical markers to give you a lot of info on Augusta history. There are many great photo opportunities with the beautiful landscape, river and railroad trestle. There are several nearby shops/restaurants to visit. If you visit when an event is happening such as the Ironman or Arts in the Heart, you can make it an all day outing. The only concern I would have is being there after dark. Unfortunate but true.

Pretty walk along the river. Cute shop. Not much happening during the week. Nice for a stroll but not worth a special trip.

Riverwalk is a great safe walk for families with children as it offers a path by the river and a pathed one above and slightly inland. We did notice quite a lot of trash, broken glass, and cigarettes, but still worth it. Good to move around and see the water and real estate and trees, and various art and sculptures. Worth it, but I'd advise this is a day time walk.

It was the saddest weekend I have ever had. To see GA put there money into a golf course and leave all the beautifull old buildings going to east on the river walk is truley sad. The veteran's who are out there should know not to go there. I have been setting my father's up for years and we try to set them up near a military base and river walk. Augusta GA will not be one of them.

Its not a place I would go to at night. There are some strange characters that lurk the downtown area at night. Other than that, its a great place to enjoy a calming, relaxing environment and collect your thoughts.

If in Augusta be sure to do the River Walk. Nice atmosphere along the river. There are signs that explain the history of Augusta.

Nice to be able to walk along the Savannah River after dinner. Sadly, as in many cities, we were approached by a pan handler although he was very low-key and we felt safe. Unfortunately, the river has picked up some grassy growth along its sides which take away from the beauty of the river. This seems to be happening all over the country to our waterways. Signage along the walk is very nicely done. Well-maintained. Broad street looks clean and inviting for a walk as well. We are enjoying our visit to Augusta.

Very beautiful, the beware of snakes sign had me a little worried but didn't see any. It wasn't crowded and I would recommend it for a romantic stroll. The surround area has some nice shops including two antique stores and a hugh costume store.

Lots of shade and benches, nice to sit and relax. Seemed safe as well. The area is really pretty. would go back

This is a lovely spot for a run/stroll. I saw all sorts of folks walking/running/being walked by their dogs/and doing incredible workouts running up/down the steps at the amphitheater on an early Saturday morning. Plenty of benches are located along the upper walkway, with picnic tables on the lower walkway closer to the river. Placards along the way give an interesting history of the river and it's importance to the city.

This levee, although handsomely renovated, provides a lovely stroll but prevents what could be a popular, thriving riverfront commercial district. When you look across the very large pool (which is dammed up) you see lovely homes & docks built way below the Augusta bank's level, constructed on stilts. Regarding flood control, the 1914 levee failed so many times three hydroelectric dams were built upstream and now control the river. It seems sad that practically zero people are having fun on the river or waterfront which could be lit up with bars, restaurants and shops... a "little Savannah Riverfront".

The Riverwalk along the Savannah River is a must see for all visiting Augusta GA. So beautiful and there are riverboat tours and kayaking as well. Shops and great restaurants just a block away on Broad Street!!!

This is a lovely, relaxing place to walk. Across the water, you see big, beautiful homes in South Carolina. Easy to park and benches to sit on. Then head to Laziza Mediterranean Grill. The food was delicious. Save room for their fabulous Gelato.

Hubby and I stayed at a nearby hotel and walked along the river most mornings. It’s been several years since our last visit and it does seem the walk is not maintained as well as it used to be. We encountered several homeless both near the river and along Broad St. Still, the view of the river and the expensive homes across in SC is very nice.

We visited early on a Sunday morning on a very warm day. As we were early parking was easy. It was very pleasant to walk along the river, enjoying watching the on water boating, families out and about, the restroom, shop, playground. The paths are in excellent condition. Some of the steps to the upper level are quite steep and seemed deeper than normal. We walked down the stairs but I queried whether someone could potentially trip walking up the stairs. An enjoyable place for a meander.

The Augusta Riverwalk is a beautiful place to visit and beauty in itself with the row of houses on the South Carolina side. The beauty of the flowers along the Riverwalk are breathtaking.

Scenic and well manicured walk area. Brick paved walkways and cast iron fencing and lamp posts, along with the flowering plants, set the mood for a leisurely walk along the Savanna River. A great place for a guy and his gal.

Beautiful area great place to get in your steps. Walk across the bridge to South Carolina. Easy walking and several levels. Nice playground. Good walking place and friendly people.

Great people and nice place to stay for short or long term. They are quick to help you and always upgrading the rooms and building.

My wife and I went to Augusta from Greenville, SC for a quick weekend getaway. Maybe August in Augusta is the off season? The Riverwalk was un-kept and un-populated. We were a little (a lot) disappointed. I can see how the Riverwalk and Augusta downtown could be a real attraction, but it wasn't during our visit. The river is beautiful and likely worth a second try if we timed it right?

Augusta Riverwalk is nice on Saturday mornings. You can go-to the Saturday market before hand and shop or get a snack. Nice breeze off the river and sometimes free entertainment. Only drawback is restrooms are port-a-toilets. You have to eat in one of the restaurants for inside restrooms.

Great relaxing walk by the river. Walk and relax at the many benches and swings on the way. Many areas to look at, great homes across the river to view, boats come by and you can exit several places to some good dining.

Riverwalk is a great place for a short stroll or a long walk, any time of year. You can walk on the upper level with a lovely view along the river and across to South Carolina, or you can walk on the lower level closer to the water. Placards along the way provide interesting details about history, design, flora and fauna.

It was a nice afternoon walk, not crowded. Beauitful views. Althought the trees were still bare and there were a few flowers. It's was worth the trip.

Enjoyed the view and the information along the way. Easy parking at the Marina and enough stairways to get from water level to top. Would have enjoyed seeing something at the amphitheater.

Augusta has done it right with this Riverwalk. Well kept with upper and lower walkways in some sections. Playground for the little kiddos and benches for the rest of us along the way. The only thing that would make it better would be a café or bakery close by.

Enjoy visiting the market on Saturdays. Usually go twice a month. There are a lot of booths set up with almost anything you could ask for. They have fresh fruits and vegetables, crafts and woodworking. Foods from all over the world and homemade desserts. They have live music and even people involved with Greyhound rescue. Plus after leaving the market, you have the riverwalk to visit. Makes for a good way to spend a Saturday.

Very pretty walk along the Savannah Riser in Augusta. We were there last weekend. This was our first visit. Thoroughly enjoyed.

The river walk is need of repairs, but, it is currently undergoing improvements by the city of Augusta and state of Georgia.

Great view of the Savannah River and good weather for a picnic. Stop by Hildebrand's on 6th street and take out a sandwich for the best lunch in downtown Augusta.

Even though it was very cold when we were here, we were drawn to the riverwalk by the view we saw from our hotel room. A lovely combination of business, local information, and personal residences... and a nice place to walk.

What a beautiful riverwalk! It was perfect day and walk with a 9 and 10 year old. It is very well kept, and a lot of history to be learned.

We enjoyed our walk through the river walk. Quaint vendors set up. Wish we had more time to see more. Very family oriented. Great place to walk, ride bikes, run, etc

The River Walk is a beautiful place to take a stroll or sit and watch the day go by. The Savannah river is almost mesmerizing as it calmly flows by. The river walk has picnic tables, benches, swings, as well as a playground and is very clean. The views are beautiful and worth a visit.

Having visited other cities with "Riverwalk" areas, we weren't sure what to expect. It was a Sunday and the area was pretty much deserted except for some of the locals sleeping on the benches. It was not a particularly warm day so we expected more people. The view across the Savannah river is one of beautiful grand homes right on the river and that was pretty. There is also an interesting old bridge that crosses the river. On the upper level there are many areas where you can sit and enjoy just being outside and historic boards with facts about the river and history of the whole area around Augusta. You can take a riverboat tour. The hours are posted. Just off the upper level there are two Marriott properties, restaurants, and the Riverwalk Center which houses the Morris Museum of Art. This Museum is not to be missed. I would like to return during the week to see if there is more activity.

Our after dinner walk on the river was refreshing. The brick walkway was nice and views great. The amphitheater was very nice.

Within walking distance from any of the downtown hotels or b and bs. The walk is about 1.5 miles long and is awesome since it is right alongside the Savannah riverwalk. At one end there were a few homeless folks but they kept to themselves. I do not recommend walking this riverwalk at night as there are some homeless hanging around and the walk is out of sight from the street. Great daytime activity though as plenty of people around.

A nice peaceful walk along the river. Or, a candlelight jazz concert every Sunday during the summer months. Close to downtown and many nice places to grab a bite and or an adult beverage.
My son and I went to one of the National speedboat competitions. And, of course, the 4th of July fireworks are always a good time.

The great place to take a walk and look across the river to see huge homes!
A fabulous fountain in the center with a bakery near by and a Japanese Gardens, Amphitheater, heroes overlook honoring the people who received Navy Cross. Take a picnic with you and enjoy the view. The walk is 2 levels at the bottom see the marks from floods in the past and how high the water got. I saw people walking their dogs, some riding bikes.

Beautiful landscaping. The Riverwalk is a peaceful place to relax and enjoy the view of the river or stroll along the walkways.

My wife and I enjoyed a quiet walk along the Riverwalk near the marina. It is scenic and relaxing during the daytime. Just folks walking their dogs or getting in a jog. Interesting plaques along the path describing some of the local history. You are a couple blocks from downtown with additional options for dining and shopping.

Augusta got it right with the Riverwalk. Such a wonderful area to enjoy a beautiful walk with awesome views. The walk is very safe and offers a great escape from the fast pace of the rest of the world.
There are lots of places to park - you have to pay. But if you are in Augusta this is a must stop.

The riverwalk is stunning and you should always make a point too visit the farmers market on Saturdays

Very nice walk with kayak rentals and boat tours, The gift shop at the marina has ice cream and much more and the lady there was extremely nice and answered all my questions about the bridge and river.

Came here while we were in town to get some Pokémon stops with my son. It had been a few years since we last visited!

Whether you just want a nice peaceful walk along the river, stop at the museum or a restaurant, see a concert, or just view the homes across the river, it’s a gem for Augusta. It’s a lot better than walking down Broad Street which needs plenty of help and revitalization.

We loved walking along the Riverwalk. It was a nice way to take a walk with my little one. It was a great way to take him out of the hotel to work off some energy. Beautiful walkway.

The Riverwalk is a nice, short (1 mile) stretch from basically the Marriott to the marina. Nice views on the walk. They have a little bit of a homeless issue, so just be mindful on the lower routes and better to have a friend with you if walking late at night or early in morning.

A nice place for a stroll along the river. Bricked pathways make for very easy walking. Very scenic views as you travel along the path.

We had to evacuate our home in South Carolina due to hurricane Florence. We ended up in Augusta GA. Since we had never been there we decided to take the time and look around. We checked out the River walk and were very surprised at how beautiful and relaxing it was.

Nice way to see the river. It's expansive. Near the main downtown area so you can walk off lunch. You can drive over it too. Perfect weather in March.

Had a nice time walking here with the family. Very well maintained, clean and easy. Worth a stop if you are in the area

Nice walk, good for a jog or a couples walk and also close access to several good restaurants. Also close to the Augusta history museum and broad street.

This is a lovely place for a stroll. We encounter some live music and a farmers market! That was a pleasant surprise.

Nice views, lots of places to sit along the walk. There is a center where performances take place - the day we were there someone was there practicing their lines for a play.

While on a business trip to Augusta, we ate downtown and wanted to briefly visit the Riverwalk. It was beautiful at dusk. We were able to have fun during our short trip and was also able to get in some great photos with the river as the background. There's a nice walkway one can enjoy and a place for public events when one is scheduled. Not sure if I would visit after dark, but so long as you're visiting in a group. I enjoyed my brief visit and would've liked more time to enjoy what was there.

There's a beautiful walk along the rivers edge right from the downtown area. Lovely. We went there from the Boll Weevil restaurant which had great salads and outrageously delicious cakes for dessert!

The riverwalk was peaceful and quiet. We went on a Saturday and it was a nice place to walk and see the river. The river itself could use some cleaning however. I would recommend this to kill some time during the day.

Perfect place to walk freely and breath fresh air, the view was amazing, you will find many benches to rest and enjoy the sound of the river

Hiking jogging biking kayaking canoeing
The River has it all and a good 6 mile trail
Clean bathrooms

The riverwalk is a beautiful area to walk along the river. We enjoyed seeing the houses on the other side of the river and it was a nice break in the middle of the day.

It was not as long as I thought it would be. The lower part of the walk is scenic, but the river itself has a lot of hydrilla and is slow flowing - a little stagnant. Also, I wouldn't walk at night.

Fantastic place to visit. Views are great. The marina is very nice. Had a great conversation with the young lady at the marina store. We went back on Sunday for the craft market. I highly reccomend a visit if you are in the area

This was a great learning experience if you haven't been here, plus it was very scenic with beautiful fall colors for this time of year.

We visited the Riverwalk on the 4th of July and it was surprisingly empty. The walk itself is very nice, wide and level. You can walk along the river or a large flight of stairs above at street level. We were disappointed that there were not any cafes or bistros with outdoor seating and a view to get a coffee or drink. We did enjoy the shaded areas and swinging benches. The town was a bit of a ghost town. Visitor Center staff was friendly and helpful. Things did liven up a bit after 4 when vendors moved in for the 4th of July events.

We took a brisk winter walk and met lots of hearty outdoors types enjoying the spectacular walk way and views along the upper and lower walks. There are interesting stations where you can read about the history of the city (once a thriving cotton market and mill town).

Very pretty walk beside the Savannah River. Playground area, benches & picnic tables along the River. We enjoyed walking in this area & visiting nearby downtown businesses.

Beautiful place to walk, jog, picnic, kayak or bike. Loved the place. The canal is a great piece of 1850 / 1870's engineering. The place is open to whatever you want to do - walk, bike, run. The canal caretaker house is impressive. Talk to the docent to learn more about the history

We didn’t seek out to end up in Augusta but what a pleasant surprise. Beautiful, quaint, romantic riverwalk! If I lived here I’d be proud of my city!!

Weather was good. After spending time in the car felt good to walk plus learned about the river and it's history. First tik.e in Augusta. Love to learn about new areas

We loved the Riverwalk! We highly suggest if you want a nice walk by the river with the added benefit of history, this is a must visit place for your and your family or just some me time. It is hilly in some area, so if you bring a stroller, plan to get your workout in.

Nice walk along the Savannah River. Right off at downtown. Are a lot of quaint bars and restaurants to stop it about a block or two up from the river. Amphitheatre there was nobody performing but it looks like a nice venue.

We walked along the riverwalk and discovered a wonderful Saturday morning farmer's market! The walk along the river is beautiful and the park-like setting very well maintained.

While visiting in Augusta we took a walk on the RIverwalk upper and lower walking route , Both have beautiful options for photos . Nice place to enjoy a bike ride or a stroll .

We went down for the little market they have on Saturday. Walked along the Riverwalk had a bite to eat at the market it was very nice. Riverwalk has a lot of places to sit, places to take pictures, or just stroll along the river. Nice view of the river.

Upper and lower level Savanah river walk. Recently upgraded. Relaxed walk along the river. Friendly people. Was a Saturday so local market in one area which added to the experience.

Ate at Boll Weevil and then decided to take a few minutes and walk up to the riverfront area. It was quite nice. There is a decent sized amphitheater right there and you can walk in both directions much farther than what we did. The walk is on the Augusta side and you can look across the river to North Augusta and there are some large homes that front the river. The walk way is wide and easy.

This stretch of riverfront can be very romantic for couples of all ages. It was also fun to watch the boaters and jetskiers having fun in the river. Other visitors maintained social distance and because it’s open air there was no necessity for covid protecting masks. We had fun seeing the bees taking nectar from the blossoms in the pergola trellis above the amphitheatre. Weather was perfect for us in April. This is one of Augusta’s best places to relax and hang out between meals. BTW we recommend Foxy’s Lair for drinks and Augustino’s for steak and Italian cuisine.

Quick tour for our mother and brother It was a little windy because of hurricane behind us but history of walk is amazing. Good time had by all.

The river walk was next to the Marriott which was very convenient. It is approximately 1 1/2 miles long along the Savannah River. It had 2 levels with picnic tables and benches to sit and watch the birds and the boats. There was also an amphitheater that had 80 steps from top to bottom. I had a 9 yr old grandson with me that was very adventurous and he was entertained for a couple of hours. I felt very safe with a lot of people around.

First time to visit the Riverwalk in Augusta GA. Very nicely done with two walkway elevations (upper and lower) that overlook the Savannah River and compliment each other. Not an overly long walk but enjoyable and relaxing with benches along the way. A pavilion and stadium sitting is available for concerts as well.

This area has so much potential and is a very pretty area however I don't think I would want to walk around this area at night as everything seems to be run down and not very well maintained. There a lot of restaurants and shops that are closed down and run down and I don't think that I would go out of my way to go there but it could have so much potential if only it was more well taken care of and some money was put into the area to update it. The Marriott hotel is right there and it has quite the view of the river. It's a shame that the area is so run down and that hopefully they have a gem that could really be an entertainment Hub if only some money was put into the area and safety precautions were instilled.

Just so beautiful, the river, the mansions across, and the art. Just take some time to appreciate it!

Was in town for a techinical training and company offered a bike ride along the river. Sensacional, awesome view, lots of trees, there are a few toilets along the track and the track is very easy. If you are around, rent a bike and go for it, totally recommended!!

We drove into Augusta around 10.30am and easily parked our car in Broad Street. 10 minutes later - having passed the James Brown statue - we were by the Marriott Hotel\ Conference Centre and the start of the Riverwalk. It was about 30 minutes each way and was well kept, clean and obviously a lot of money has been spent to make it nice. Plenty of bench seating along the trail and shade on the lower level. The river (The Savannah) seemed very tranquile and it was hard to see if any tidal water was moving at all. Also there were no boats actually travelling on the river which seemed strange. We felt safe as we walked the length of the Riverwalk to the Marina. The area was clean. On the way back we walked on the top level (street level) and stopped to read the many historial markers. Very interesting. Overall, a pleasant walking trail for around 90 minutes.

This is a very nice place to visit for couples, family, or taking the kids for an outing. They have a small little park for smaller kids. This is also a nice place for couples to get out of the house and go take a stroll along the water.

Monday evening, beautiful weather to check out the river walk on overnight stay in Augusta. However, no security presence at all made me a little nervous and not unhappy to cut the walk a little short. Probably better to do this on a weekend when more people are around.

This is one of the most peaceful, tranquil, and relaxing places in Augusta, GA. A great place to walk or bike anytime of the year.

The Ricerwalk if Augusta can be a beautiful place during daylight hours and especially at sunset. The walk is fairly easy and relaxing along the river. There is a lot of history to read about along the way, but make sure you aren’t there too long past sunset. The last few times we’ve gone for a walk there, we started seeing homeless people taking up the benches and wandering around. We have also seen small groups of people huddled together until we got closer and they scattered with profanity and vulgarity. It’s not the kind of environment you want younger children exposed to. Again, going during the day is safe enough, even enjoyable.

We loved the Riverwalk. Spring was in full bloom. (Last week of March). It was beautiful. There were lots of places to sit and relax or even take a picnic and sit at one of the picnic tables along side the River. In addition to the beautiful landscaping, the view across the other side were beautiful riverfront homes. They were so charming. There was also a play area for children. There are restrooms near the marina, which had a cute eclectic store. This was a highlight when you’re there for just one full day. Starting in the Spring they also have an open market to wander through. We’ll definitely will back.

This is a nice brick paved elevated walkway along the Savannah River in Downtown Augusta. It has great views of the river and nice homes across, and has several stairways leading into various spots in downtown. There are also other points of interest/displays, a playground, as well as an amphitheater. Nice walk with the family while exploring downtown Augusta.

Definitely walk the Riverwalk. The view is gorgeous and the walk is great. You can park once and walk the Riverwalk and then walk through town to get to shops and restaurants.

On a hot afternoon this is a pleasant walk in the trees looking at the houses and boats. Recommended

Beautiful walking next to the Savannah River! Close to the Main Street with lots of restaurants and bars. Good entertainment with family and great park

Nice walk on the river. They have great views and frozen lemonades. there's always something to see. Boats on the river, people watching, kids playing or just taking a nice long walk. The parking is everywhere, so the short walk to get to the riverwalk is short distance away. If you get hungry there are numerous places to get a bite close by.

Nice place to take a little stroll. Picnic tables are available to sit at also. Saw many little turtles in & along the river :)

This was the perfect walk for an early spring day. The upper walkway was stroller friendly (paved) and the lower walkway by the river had little places to stop and a nice playset for the kids.

While visiting our son and granddaughter we decided to check out the Riverview area. The walk along it was nice, beautiful homes across the river on the SC side. There's 2 play areas for kids along the River walk as well as a small giftshop for drink, souvenirs, etc. I was amazed by the old rail bridge that's been there since 1912 and even more surprise to know it's still in use!
For the Christmas season there are Christmas light up decorations on each light post on the upper part of the Riverwalk and am sure it looks great at night. I recommend that if you're in the area to stop by and check it out. We spent about an hour there which was mostly walking.

....Stagnant water, mosquitos and derelicts shortened my stroll here last week. The riverwalk has potential, but I think that the city needs to address the problem of so many derelicts with nowhere to go. We took a lunch to eat beside the river, and ended up giving it away to someone hungrier than us. So sad.

Pretty little walk if your looking to get some fresh air or just want to walk off some lunch. Could be nicer if they keep the homeless people off all the benches though.

Beautiful setting just be prepared for multiple homeless smoking weed and asking you for money both during the day and night. The area can become very uncomfortable especially in the evening. We were told not to go past 8th street and the riverboat we stayed on was on 5th.

We strolled the Riverwalk one Sunday am and enjoyed the nice views. Informative plaques were spaced along the way.

I am born and raised in augusta. Have attended many festivals and functions at the riverwalk. Its nice to visit if you like nature and the savannah river. But in my opinion, its better to visit the riverwalk when they have something going on there otherwise its boring. They have the arts in the heart festival in the fall as well as the latin festival among others. They also have frequent jazz concerts out there as well as a fireworks show every year. Also has some good restaurants around it (augustinos, boil weevil) Like i said, its a nice place to visit if there is something going on there. I personally like to watch the Iron Man competition there. People drive from all around to compete in the competition whereby they swim so many yards in the savannah river, ride a bike from augusta to south carolina and back, then run so many miles to the finish line on broad street.

A nice walk along the river. It's been a few years since we had done that and I can see a decline of the care. There is a playground for children and benches to sit on. We did see several homeless people as well, no issues with them. Parking is very easy.

Very nice walking along the river in downtown Augusta past some unique churches and popular hotels. During the season there is a farmers' market along the walk on Saturdays. In all it is a decent way to get some exercise.

Riverwalk is theoretically the area downtown between 13th and 5th street. This area is more public than other parts of the levee and canal area that are also open to bikers and walkers. Bring a camera as the river is ever changing and every season is a different view.

This place is worth a visit.Excellent scene and nature walk is really refreshing. On good day it can be a good place to enjoy good time.

Read the many signs along the way. What a rich history to see. Enjoyable time walking with my wife. Totally paved walkway.

We enjoyed walking along the river. It's nicely done and a good way to get around the area. We enjoyed the nice sunny day.

We were visiting family in Augusta and they took us to the Farmers Market at the River walk. We had a beautiful day... perfect weather. The walk is so pretty and the Market was great. We had lunch, shrimp and grits. Yum! We bought flowers and produce, listened to some great live music and just enjoyed being with family.

Enjoy sitting in this peaceful setting watching the days activity. Very serene and relaxing. I take visitors there each time.

Went early morning - surprisingly not many folks out. Lovely walk - great info markers. Well worth your time if you're in the area.

Maybe if they had a bike rental it would be more fun. Seeing the small dog named Rosie at the gift shop was the highlight of the trip. Area is clean, and no bums bothered us. It was deserted for a weekend visit, surprisingly. Charleston, SC was way more interesting than this place. Savanna, GA was better too.

Great place for picnics, long walks and even to just enjoy the views, which are amazing. First time coming and definitely won't be last.

We LOVE doing the Riverwalk every time we visit Augusta! Like that it has 2 levels, so never crowded. I enjoy reading the history plaques along the way. We do it in the AM before the heat descends upon us!

A lot of history, a great little snack shop and a nice marina! Great place to learn about Augusta past and present.

This provides a wonderful day or nighttime walk along the Savannah River from the Marriott to St. Paul's Church. the water is clam and the very nice atmosphere and houses across the river in SC are interesting.

Be sure to pause and awe at the Georgia veteran's memorials. There's stories of decorated vets who've been awarded the nation's highest honors.

Although some renovation is needed, this is still a great walk especially with a friend. Good restaurants along the way and some good stuff happens in the amphitheater. This is a don't miss.

The riverwalk is a great place to check out when you are in Augusta. There are a couple of different levels, depending on where you are along the way. Check out the plaques as you pass them for they will provide you some history of the area as well as some environmental information.
I walked along here on a Sunday morning and it was basically me and 1 or 2 other people. So peaceful!!! Gave me plenty of time to think. Look at the extremely expensive houses across the way. :)

Walked from the farmers market to the art museum and then down the other way. Was a very nice place to walk and talk on a first date!

This area is under used and under maintained. It is such a beautiful area but could use a completely overhaul.

I enjoyed getting to walk along the river in Augusta. I would love to see a performance at the amphitheater. I liked being on the water.

This is a lonely, well cared for walk along the Savannah River in Augusta GA. It was particularly beautiful with the Spring blossoms in bloom. The walk is a dual leveled mile of paved path, one upper and one lower. It is flat with the exception of getting up and down to the lower path.

Very pretty. Views of the river are nice. Good place for pictures. Lots of events in and around the river. Can be scary at night. Do not go out alone.

Nice stroll along the river in downtown Augusta. Cute shop and public restrooms near marina. ADA accessible.

Good place to clear your mind and gather your thoughts, also close to eating places and the museum.Going at night is the best time to me not a lot of people and its quiet

We were only in Augusta for a day, and after eating at one of the local restaurants, walked back toward our hotel along the River Walk... I didn't know there was such a place here, and was pleasantly surprised... there are two levels, one atop the levee, and one lower down, near the level of the river... both have brick paver walkways, plenty of sitting and even picnic spots, and nice shady spots... there was an amphitheater at the point we started, and a marina beyond the railroad cut at the east end... the place was very clean and well-maintained, and full of people enjoying the afternoon... there are markers along the way on the levee that interpret local history and development... great place to meander and take the family...

Every day that I was at my conference, I would walk along the beautifully decorated and maintained route. I was very pleased to learn so much history of this old town, too, while enjoying the river view! lots of areas for children to play, too, and for parents to rest.

Tried to get out the hotel and have some outdoors fun !!!! No regrets ! It was awesome , we had time to walk and enjoy the path

Nice place to walk and enjoy the breeze along the canal. You can rent bikes, kayaks, or bring your own. If you rent a kayak and go downtown, the current will be against you coming back.
Seeing how the locks work is interesting and the views of the Savannah River and the Canal are lovely.

Nice leisurely clean walk. It’s only two blocks off the Main Street in the downtown area. Lots of benches to sit and relax and just enjoy the view.

Lovely walkway along the river. points of interest details along waterfront. We visited a wonderful market located just off the riverwalk..farmers market style but with lots of food and item vendors

Spent a quick afternoon walking around, we were surprised at how empty the place was, some part are in need of a bit of maintenance.

Nice place to take a leisurely stroll and view the Savannah River. There are some good restaurants on the streets leading to the river walk and pretty landscaping to view.

I really enjoyed the view as well as the quietness. There were many people, but the atmosphere was calm.

I took my three grands during the summer. We visited the Aquarium first. They loved it, and so did I. Just a peaceful mini getaway for a few minutes. Great photo opportunities.

Its nice to check out the RiverWalk when downtown.
I really like to go in spring during the Foodmarket.
There is often live music.

We were visiting Augusta for the first time. My impression of their downtown area is that it might need a revival. It seems a little run down and dead.
We did go for a walk near the river and it was interesting and pretty. It is dog friendly and a good place to get some history and exercise.
There isn't much else to do, and it would be cool if they added some restaurants and bars to the area next to it.
It would be a nice area to picnic, bike or roller blade if you have extra time. They have a playground too.
We were approached by a couple of homeless men but they were friendly. I don't know if I would go there alone unless it had a fair amount of people.

If you are expecting something like the Riverwalk at San Antonio, forget it. The majority of this walk is on top of the levee and there are absolutely no shops, restaurants, etc.

We visited the Riverwalk in Augusta on a Saturday morning with my family of four. It was lovely and a perfect place for taking pictures! There were people of all ages walking and enjoying the area, and I felt safe. We were approached by one person who said he was homeless, so beware that might be an issue. There was a playground area with multiple families sitting on benches, as well as an area with a stage where a man sat playing the saxophone collecting donations. Not much else, but worth a quick stop and a great place to stretch your legs!

Several areas to walk along the river, handicapped accessible, along with plenty of bench seating along the trail. There were a few homeless individuals along the way but, for the most part, felt safe. The area was clean, trash cans throughout. Above the river walk (street level), there were numerous historial markers so you could read about the history of Augusta. May return when the weather is cooler to take more in. Overall, a pleasant walking trail.

What a great place for a long leisurely stroll. Too bad we could not find a nice little bistro to stop & have lunch.

When we asked some people what there was to do in Augusta they said "only the Riverwalk". Well, gonna tell ya - "only" is not appropriate. It was beautiful. We walked about a mile and enjoyed the beautiful trees and in one place the train trestle. The trees with the hanging moss are everywhere. If you want beauty without spending money this is the place to go. There are also a lot of eateries close by.

Took out of area visitor to walk the riverwalk and take a tour boat ride. Riverwalk was not as long or nice as I thought it was going to be and the riverboat company canceled the trip 25 minutes before because they said of heat but we were the only two people reserved for the trip so that might of been more of the reason. The museum connected to the boat trip was nice and worth the time exploring while we waited for the tour boat. It showed the way the canal system was made. Downtown was sad. The town could be such a vibrant area but needs investors and vision.

Great for walking around killing time in the daylight only. To much drama at night no matter what is happening downtown

Took a walk after a late dinner at Boll Weevil and found the Riverwalk to be very dark, even with occasional street lights. Had to photograph the historical signs with a flash to be able to read them later. Even though the walk was poorly lit, we felt reasonably safe and actually encountered few other people - that should have told us something. Jazz floated up from a nightclub; that and the breeze were pleasant.

This is a fantastic place to walk & enjoy peace & quiet close to the centre of Augusta. It is clean & well kept with beautiful views across the Savannah river.

The river walk was right outside our hotel. We walked the entire length - oneself on the top walk, then again on the bottom walkway by the river. Lots of people and families were out enjoying the walking. If we didn't have a dinner reservation ( walked to that too) we would of spent more time there.

Evacuated to Augusta from Hilton Head during Hurricane Dorian. Looking for something local to spend our time so we took a drive to Riverwalk. That pretty much describes it...walk along the Savannah River. It was peaceful and beautiful but I expected there to be some shops and restaurants along the walk like in Savannah. There were none. There were places to eat if you were willing to walk two blocks off the path into the city. Also they did have a nice play area and plenty of table and benches if you want to take a picnic lunch and enjoy the river views

I didn't take too long of a walk, but the view from the walk appeared to be of only huge houses on the other side of the river. I was there mid week so maybe a little more action on weekends.

Visited as part of a tour group. This was a break during a drive. Very pleasant just to stroll along the river bank.....some fabulous houses on the other side !! Nice to see plants in bloom , a well kept area, no litter, no graffiti or damage, people with small children also enjoying the area too.
Walked through the Jessye Norman Amphitheatre......this must be a great venue. I would love to see the great lady sing.

This is a scenic, peaceful riverwalk along the Savannah River with two bricked levels. We walked down the lower level and then walked back on the upper level. There is plenty of seating along the entire walk (between 6th and 10th streets) to stop if you need to rest or if you just want to soak in the beautiful views. There is plenty to do along the walk: fountains, kids playground, amphitheater, food, marina/gift shop, an art museum, a history museum, and a crafts market every saturday. You can spend as much time here as you want depending on what you decide to do. We loved it and I think you will too. It's easy to spend most of the day here.
One entrance to the riverwalk is right next to the historic St. Paul Church and burial ground but they don't want you to use their parking lot to do the riverwalk. Please find another place to park.

Busy on the weekends, rather unpopulated during the weekdays, both are fine to visit during the day. Seats, swings, brick path, amphitheater and many local restaurants make this a nice place to go, especially when the weather is nice or there is an event in one of the nearby hotels or outdoor areas, like the Augusta Commons..

A peaceful and serene view of the Savannah River in the CSRA. RELAXING. One can sit out here day or night and get lost in your thoughts.

Walked the river for some quiet time. Nice view and friendly faces. Took pics near the fountain and also visited the Museum.

Spent some time walking the path between sites and chatting with people. Good area for people with disabilities to geet a view of the river.

A little overrated, not much to see or do. It's still a nice walk along the top of the river bank. You can see the city on one side, the river on the other. Unfortunately there is nothing much to see on either side. We parked by the rail bridge, walked the top trail then returned on the lower river trail. There are lots of benches to rest on, if you can find one that a bum hasn't called home. If you're in Augusta then for sure visit and go for a walk, but don't go out of your way as it's nothing special. Just like Augusta city, nothing special.

The RiverWalk is a path that runs along the downtown Augusta GA side of the Savannah River. I come and go for walks here often. It is usually very relaxing and tranquil. But, this area can be rough (with panhandling vagrants and alike) after nightfall. So do not go after dusk, but during the day it's safe. I wold consider a trip to and thru the RiverWalk a must do for a visitor in the Downtown Augusta GA area.

I found this a great place to get away and take a walk during convention breaks. Restaurants are close by too.

Great place to walk. Start at the Lock Gate, I did not feel safe walking at the end by the Museum. The views are wonderful and the park was full of people early on the morning and close to the gate closing. Bring your camera to take pictures of the waterfall and old buildings.

Is a beautiful place, good to walk or run, is in good condition, maybe a little bit lonely and as a tourist you can feel insecure

We loved the history- make sure you visit the old church (st Paul's Episcopal ) with the beautiful cemetery full of history.

If you make it to Augusta, you have to take a stroll on the Riverwalk. There’s no cost and only beautiful scenery to take in.

Try to walk off your lunch at the Cafe 209 along the river. Hope to see a Norfolf diesel engine cross the old iron bridge while you do.

The Riverfront Walk is a nice way to spend an afternoon with your family. The scenery is nice, the facility is relatively new, and it gets you out instead of staying indoors like at the mall or something. There is a park where we enjoyed watching the grandchildren play right down from a marina that has a little snack/souvenir shop. Believe it or not, the prices for drinks and snacks were really quite reasonable. The public restrooms could use some sprucing up but hey, they're public. There is also a small amphitheater when you walk up the main staircase/entrance. I imagine it would be quite nice to listen to a performance under the cooler night sky. The downtown area on the way to the Riverwalk unfortunately suffers from the same abandonment issues as a lot of old downtown areas. However, a revitalization project seems to be underway so I wish them the best of luck. I say this is an excellent place to spend quality time with your family by just being together and enjoying the scenic river vistas. You could bring a picnic lunch and eat down near the water as a way to further enhance the experience. I don't know how safe it is after dark but given the amount of money the city spent on this project, I would hope they would have it safe for people to enjoy.

Lovely walk along the river. As a woman travelling alone I felt very safe. Didn't have time to take a boat ride but I will when I revisit Augusta.

If your looking for peace you will definitely get it here. I like walking and watching the river. It's clean and when they do the farmers market down there it's even better

Very nice place to take a walk with your loved ones. Has bathrooms and a gift shop with drinks, snacks and ice cream.

We were in Augusta as evacuees from Florence. We walked to the Riverwalk and spent a few minutes there. I can see it would be a wonderful place to "stop and smell the roses". We were tired and hot so we didn't spend much time there, but it would be a great ace to sit and read a book.

Lots of money has been spent making this a beautiful place to walk and view the river and its adjacent developments. There is a curving sidewalk along the river and a high walk along a wide wall. We only discover d it after many visits to Augusta. We will now use during most trips to Augusta. I suspect it is only recommended as a daytime activity. Beautiful place to get exercise and read and view Augusta history !

Wonderful walk along the river. The city built this outstanding park and walkway. Loaded with history markers along the way educating one about the cities history. Nice amphitheatre for shows. The marina was active and nice. benches along the walk provide a spot to sit and enjoy the river life. Wee done Augusta!

Just a nice easy ride with plenty to see. Clean and safe. The ride is along the dike that prevents the Savannah River from flowing into downtown. Easy ride.

Beautiful walk along the river. The mansions on the other side of the river are stunning. We were there at night and I did not feel safe.

We have been to the river walk several times over the years, and it unfortunately is not the best river walk area. It has potential but there's not much to do compared to others we have visited. The other biggest problem with the Augusta river walk is all of the homeless and "free loaders" hanging around harassing people and being a nuisance. Also, we have seen these same people and others just throwing there trash down as well. We went here again for a summer day and it hasn't changed much. We will continue to go else where instead.

We stopped briefly and the area was clean and tidy, no visible debris.
We would have stayed longer but it was very hot, about 100 degrees.

The river walk is very well done with great paths, vistas and benches to spend time just watching the river go by.

The Riverwalk is a beautiful place to enjoy a walk on the river. I truly enjoyed the many gardens and restaurants. I especially enjoyed the two museums that are located off the walkway. It is truly a great place for families to get out and enjoy the fresh air and enjoy the Savannah River.

Very pretty walk accented by historical information labels. Easy to find and parking, although signage could have been better, was not a Problem

At first we were sadly disappointed because we expected this River Walk to be like the ones in Savannah, GA and San Antonio, TX, with many shops and restaurants to choose from as they line the river's front. But that's not the case here.
It's a great place to walk your dog, take lover's stroll, or like some people we saw, have a photography/modeling session. Awesome view of the Savannah. Very peaceful.
So bottom line: If you have the expectation that you can bring a lunch and some beverages and enjoy a picnic in a gorgeous setting at the river's edge, then you'll be satisfied.

The Riverwalk in Augusta, Georgia, offers a picturesque walking path along the waterway, showcasing local marine life. Nearby restaurants provide convenient dining options, making it a worthwhile destination for a relaxing stroll.

Nice place to bring family who visits to sit and look at the houses across the river in North Augusta.

First time here at the Riverwalk we started at 5th street and walked up to 13th street and back to 5th nice walk , not crowded .
Lots of areas to have a seat and chill.

I have walked the Riverwalk several times and except for some seating here and there there is nothing to do. Occasionally there is a concert or movie at a pavillion at one end but I have never seen a lot of people or any security anywhere. It is not a place to be at night alone or even with someone else.

If you want a quiet time just strolling by the river this is your place it was idyllic very peaceful saw beautiful birds and butterflies heard the Red Cardinal bird and read all the monuments

Enjoyed walking along the river. It was such a pleasant experience. Great scenery and weather. Definitely a must see.

My husband and I went to Augusta to visit our son and his girlfriend. My husband and son went on a mountain bike ride, so my son's girlfriend and I went down to the Riverwalk and enjoyed a beautiful afternoon. The area was clean and beautiful, and we felt safe.

A nice walk, but could use some maintenance and tlc. The sprinklers were on, many were broken, more were not properly adjusted, made for a somewhat wet and annoying walk. The historical signs were nice, but needed fixing. Many have been vandalized with what might have been a ball peen hammer. Nice view of the river and North Augusta.

This is a great place for a morning or evening stroll. Quite, scenic and gives history of Augusta. We even saw the train come through town and over the bridge at the Riverwalk

Wonderful benefit for all Augusta residents! Beautiful river trail system along the Savannah River. From cement walkways downtown to earthen canal trails further out, this is not to be missed when visiting Augusta. Bikers, runners, dog walkers, parents with strollers and the casual ambler can all enjoy this lovely asset. Highly recommended

This a a beautiful walk along the Savannah River. The large trees, flowing water, flowers make for a very peaceful experience. There is an upper walkway and a lower pathway that intermingle with each other. You can see the beautiful mansions across the river and there are many historical markers with cultural information along the walkway. A nice place to take a leisurely walk. If your lucky you might get to see the train chug across the river on the old railway bridge.

The Riverwalk is an excellent place to visit. You not only see the Georgia side of the river, but you can see across the river to beautiful homes located on the South Carolina side as well. The Saturday market is held in the area on the 1st Saturdays on the month as well.

This was great. Did five k on one portion and came back to see locks. Geo caches. Dog friendly
Lots of friendly people
Go to visitor center. Friendly lady and so welcoming. It looks like a house but do go in
Got a National park stamp there too
Restrooms were clean
Great for kayaking
Lovely

Anchored by Saint Paul’s Church to the east and 13th Street to the west the Riverwalk is a beautiful and safe place to enjoy the Savannah River and Augusta’s history.

The Riverwalk is the highlight of Augusta after visiting the James Brown statue on James Brown Blvd. The Riverwalk was very inviting and serene. The atmosphere was nice. There was plenty of seating along the riverwalk, there is also a playground and a souvenir shop. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the boats and relaxing.

Pretty place to walk. Not many people around this time of year so I felt cautious for safety. Cute shop under the bridge.

It is great for a couple to walk down the riverside at sunset. Lots of free parking in the area but there is nothing else to see.

This is a beautiful place to take a stroll. We've been a few times and it has always been tidy and clean. The area is maintained nicely.

In Evans for a wedding held at the Savannah Pavillon. Prior to wedding we went down to see the river and the park based on reviews from Trip Advisor. Was not disappointed. Very beautiful place. Enjoyed the walk and all the nature very much!

This walk is very peaceful along the water’s edge
Plenty of locals fishing who are only too ready to stop and talk, very friendly people
There are plenty of places to sit and watch the world go by especially on a very warm day
If you feel adventurous you can talk a river cruise on a couple of different boats
Whilst walking or sitting there is plenty of local wildlife to see and the fishermen are willing to show off their catch
Take refreshments with you as we only found 1 café
A great place to relax

3/4 mile walk along the River. Enjoy sweeping views of the river and mansions across the way. They have a small kids park, lots of benches to stop and rest or people watch and they have a wonderful market on Saturday mornings. The market has fresh produce, a lot of food tents and other vendors with sauces, jellies and crafts.

Took a nice stroll along the river after dinner at Noble Jones. It was very quiet and peaceful. Easy walking and there were many places to sit down if needed. Seems safe and did not encounter any problems. We sat in a swing and enjoyed the nice weather we are having this time of year. Don't miss this experience if in town.

Outstanding place to get your morning moving , right next to the hotel and the view is something you have to see and hear as the train rolls pass at a distance .

Stopped here for a walk at lunch. Others were obviously doing the same. The whole area felt safe and others I passed were friendly. There's a playground and ice cream shack at one end. I wish I had known, I would have taken some cash.

If you need to cook off or clear your head, this is the place to do it. Go for a wKk, jump in the mud etc.

The River walk is a nice place to take pictures, take a leisurely stroll and see nice vistas! Right across the river is North Augusta, SC! We accessed the River Walk from Downtown Augusta, very nice walk and took great photos with friends.

Went with my daughter on a day trip. Walked along the river it was very quiet .There are some places to eat..We actually sat and watched some of the boats go by .There's a Mariana along the river walk

I loved the scenery and ran 5.5 miles along the river. There were many runners along the route. Dogs are welcome but please pickup after your pet. The run route is very long and has many entry points.

This place is quite nice especially on Saturday mornings when they have the Saturday market, great views and pretty clean but the city needs to do some upkeep and painting to .

Very nice quiet relaxing area.. Beautiful scenery..Nice landscape..Perfect place to go to walk and relax .Riverwalk is in the downtown Augusta area .

This area is beautiful and we enjoyed a relaxing stroll. Felt safe and bugs were not an issue. Later in the summer, bugs might be a concern.

Very nice area to walk along the river, quiet, peaceful and playgrounds along the way for children to stop and burn off some energy. Take a picnic lunch or snacks and enjoy the view sitting on one of the benches.

Lovely spot in the heart of downtown Augusta we were able to get a few pictures done with our son who is here at fort gordon

We didn't go on the walk, but sat and enjoyed the view. Very interesting about the flood levels and what year. It was hard to think the river could get that high.

An Augusta, GA must see. The view is amazing from both sides, SC and GA. But dont take my word for it. Go walk it, and feed the ducks too!

Nice trail along the river. Plenty of free parking at various entry points. The Savannah Rapids Visitor Center has more to offer, but if you just want to get outside this place will do.

After an early dinner at Beamies by the river, we were able to leave our car in the car park and walk the block to the Savannah River. It was just beautifully, but after the storms of the day before their was some damage to repair, as the work men were cutting up a tree that got lifted!! We walked along the top walkway, and was very impressed with the ease of the walk and the information notices. Nice end to a just perfect day in Augusta.

The river walk is exactly what the name says: a walkway along the river. It is nicely done with brick paving.

Had to come for a conference so I took advantage of the beautiful river walk. It was amazing I would highly recommend this to walk or take a run.

Nice walk With information posted along the way to explain floods and other historical events. Locals suggested we not go after dark and directed us to the ballpark area restaurants.

It was very windy, so we walked the lower portion in both directions because the wind was blocked by the steep hill. Very pretty, very quiet this time of year. Places to sit or even two swing seats to watch the river.

Spent some time walking the river. Quiet and quite peaceful. Better when weather is a little more comfortable but there is shade also. Nice place to visit. It advertises a "farmers market" but it's only on weekends and may be only seasonal. Be aware.

The area is beautiful. We walked the top part all the way down to the marina. Up there, there are several plaques that tell information about the area. We really enjoyed reading those. On the way back, we walked down by the actual river. It was really pretty and all but there is a lot of branches and leaves floating around.
There is one little shop at the marina with bathrooms, the souvenirs are not plentiful. It mainly has snacks and some older stuff and trinkets, not normal souvenir items.
There is an amphitheatre there but nothing was going on, on the day we were there. There is not a bathroom around that, that we could find.
We really enjoyed the walk and reading the plaques.

We went on Saturday it was a cute area with Farmers market. The area is well designed and very peaceful.

The Riverwalk is a nice place for a relaxing stroll with a great view of the Savannah River. Would be a great place for a picnic lunch!

Interesting to see how much money must have been spent to upgrade the physical structure around this levee. Apparently built on the Georgia side of the river to prevent flooding of Augusta, it is a beautiful feat of engineering. The upgrades with the brick walkway along the top and the paths and nooks along the river are nicely done. It is planted with very nice trees, bushes and flowers and is very clean and safe. We did get accosted by one homeless man on a bench who dropped the F bomb profusely when we walked away without giving him money. My son also noted that there is a nice nook with a waterfall in homage to a sister city in Japan, but it was missing the small stone temple for some reason that is supposed to shelter the "spirits" not sure if it was damaged, removed or stolen. There a plaques along the walk that talk about the history, flora and fauna. Not to sound like a troll or a drudge, but the one plaque that mentioned the cotton industry made zero mention of slavery or its legacy, and apparently this made someone angry as there were several dents in the metal signs that look like bullet impressions from a gun fired in anger (!)
There are several large businesses, hotels and restaurants on the city side of the levee all of which seemed relatively quiet. There was also a farmer's market packing up to leave one area as we passed by. The walkway leads directly to the art museum which was surprisingly interesting
I think it is an amazing feature of the city, and definitely worth the walk. Maybe it is the pandemic, but there is little visible activity on the river, and no boat tours. There is a beautiful amphitheater, but there were no scheduled events.
Overall, my sense is that the pandemic halted the renaissance of this charming area of the city, and I hope that the efforts to make this a great place continue to improve as the pandemic subsides. The physical infrastructure is all there (climate, open spaces, theaters, hotels, the water, the wildlife) but it needs people and their activities (concerts, markets, events) to make it feel alive.

We have walked down to the riverfront a couple of times during our stay in Augusta. During the week it was quiet with just a few other tourists, dog walkers and moms with little kids. The weather was nice so it was good to be outside. There is a playground and picnic area. A snack shop, gift shop and restrooms are down by the marina. On Saturday, there was a small market and some entertainment which was a pleasant diversion for an hour. As others have mentioned, there isn't much to do other than walk along the path, unless there is some event going on. There is an outdoor amphitheater, so you might want to check their schedule.

Nice scenery, good paths, well kept, overlooks the Savannah River. Highly recommend for families or just solo!

As it stands now Riverwalk is both a really neat place and a skeleton of it's former self. The city/county has plans to revitalize it with more security and funds to keep it up. On Saturday s in season the marketplace is booming and worth a trip. It is secure at this time and slot of fun. Food vendors, local produce, fresh baked bread and crafts abound. I wouldn't walk the river after dark at this time. Give it a while to be improved.

I have been to this place on multiple occasions. It is a great place for couples and it is also a wonderful place to just sit by the many provided sitting areas and just think and be at peace.

Usually a nice walk. Has some pretty views of the water and surrounding area. Only word of caution is the area is kinda rough especially at night. I wouldn’t go down there after sundown. Homeless, gangs, etc. frequent the area so try and enjoy during the day and in groups.

We went on the Savannah tour bus, it has so many histories site to see, we took a walk on the river walk.we didn't get the ship the line was too long. The walk has many shopping sites along the walk by the river.

The Augusta Riverwalk is supposed to be an outdoor historical display where all the flags of the nations which have flown over the city are flown.
Unfortunately, political correctness and cultural cleansing has caused the removal of the Second National Confederate flag and the Augusta-Richmond County flag is now being flown in its place.
This is quite interesting in that the flags of other nations that allowed slavery and even supported the Atlantic slave trade are still being flown.
The historic display is really a farce and the chance of becoming a crime victim while walking its path is greater as well.
Go for the view but be careful and read a book if you want true history!

This is a hard one to rate. Starting with the positives, it’s very pretty along the water and it’s a nice park. There are bathroom facilities in a couple of spots. The gift shop was open and there was a vendor selling food. That part of the park was busy. As you stroll along, there is a playground and an amphitheater. It looks as if a lot of money went into creating this, and it’s a lovely place for a stroll… BUT… the area looks as if its struggling. There were homeless people sleeping on benches (mid-day) and some things were closed what looked to be permanently. I didn’t feel safe enough to use the restroom facilities on the amphitheater side of the walkway… just seemed like a bad idea as there weren’t a lot of others around. It looks like someone pounded rocks or shot at the informational signs. A little visible security would probably go a long a way. Also, as an aside to detail, the Augusta City Council flag was hanging upside down. It’s a goofy little detail, I know, but it kind of brings home a larger point that perhaps they’re just not paying attention to the details that could make this place so much better.

This is the best place to go for a long walk with family or friends. It is an unpaved path with massive trees lining both sides and the canal nearby. You can also go canoeing. You can also bring the entire family and grill and relax

We love walking but the Riverwalk not only was scenic and enjoyable but also had the added attraction of a flee market that offered wares, goods and food a delight.

You can actually take this trail along the river from the History Museum to the Art Museum. You get a nice view of the river, and there are some interesting placards to read along the way.

It's nice, peaceful, and well thought out. There's a choice of either walking the river or walking on top of the levee. Even though I have some physical issues, I found it quite easy to get around.

This is a must visit. Very beautiful riverwalk, with the perfect landscape to enjoy on either side of the river (Georgia and South Carolina) whether you want to sit down and/or walk around. The river adds another benefit to the visitors, by having informative plaques about the city of Augusta’s past and present.

4th of July weekend was great! The Riverwalk is excellent scene for the fireworks. I will be attending again for sure!

It is a nice place to stroll along the Savannah River with your loved-ones during the day. I am sorry to say there are not enough lights to stroll here at night. Bring a camera, wear comfortable shoes, and enough water to enjoy the scenery. There are plans to spruce up the area by the county, hopefully that will happen soon. There are some nearby restaurants to enjoy some more of that river life atmosphere.

This restaurant was one of my favorites. The food wad GREAT and I like the location. Not too expensive just right for a couples visit.

Ever been to the Riverwalk along the canal in San Antonio? I've been there a lot. A little over 50 years ago it was essentially a sewer, backed up with trash, and when you combine its size with the size of our riverfront and many canals, plus Lake Olmstead, just going to waste, the San Antonio Canal is less than 1/10th the size. Now it's the biggest tourist attraction in Texas, and one of the biggest in the whole country. That's because San Antonia leaders had foresight, invested money, put canal boats that actually stopped at the restaurants and hotels that they built, as well as the fancy shops, and millions go there every year. Why isn't our riverfront and canals covered up with free water taxis, shops, bars, entertainment, condominiums along the canals that would sell like hotcakes, and events that bring people into town? Ask our County Commission. Or, if they were still alive, ask the businessmen who took I.M. Pei's plan for the Civic Center and redesigned it themselves, chopped it down, made it smaller, and put it on a little piece of ground with inadequate parking that a local big shot happened to own. Now they need to rebuild it because it's too small to attract big acts. As for the Riverwalk, it started with a bunch of boy scouts or something making a little playground in back of the now defunct Town Tavern around 6th and the river, The freight train used to stop there so the crew could eat lunch. Then progress stopped, except to make it longer. That was 40 years ago. Also, lower Broad Street used to be a happening place with the Discotheque, Lucifer's Follies, Chicago Lil's, Baby Doll's, et cetera, and who will ever forget the Rebel Room, but our city fathers decided to run these money makers out of town. Wonder why we don't get many businessmen's conventions? Not everybody enjoys picnics, bicycle riding, church suppers and prayer meetings. You've got to diversify. I go to the Tampa Bay area every chance I get. Riverwalk pffffffffff! Dull.

The river walk itself was beautiful. Winding sidewalks lined with pretty landscaping along the river. Even the azaleas and Dogwoods were in bloom already.
The problem is the downtown area is so delapitated, rundown and devoid of any shopping what's so ever. I am not exaggerating. Some of the buildings were crumbled hollowed out shells!
All I can say is you won't be spending any money shopping. I wouldn't book a hotel down there either.

Recently took a strowl downtown. Was surprised to see so many others enjoying themselves like I was.The flowers are in full bloom. Take a moment to stop and smell the roses, I highly recommend it.

Are you looking for a quaint little place to spend a Saturday afternoon and have a nice lunch? This is a good place. If you are looking for excitement, this is not the place for you. Maybe in busy months there is more. It was relaxing and peaceful.

I have been here before and waked it daily while there, This tinme it needs much repair. Sites are abandon and in horrible shape. The Japaneses garden is no longer maintained and shabby. The pavers many are broken. There are homeless all over the walk. It view of the river of course is exceptional. It need much maintenance on an on going bases.

When you first walk up to the river you see the view of the large homes across the river and it is very pretty. Quiet and peaceful on a Monday afternoon visit.

We walked the river walk for a small distance just behind the Marriott hitel. It is a very nice area with cafes and bars and shopping.

Was a beautiful day when we went down to the Riverwalk. Had a lot of benches along the way if you needed to sit. Saw a sign to be on the lookout for snakes but we didn't see any, saw a turtle in the river though.

I thought that this was a nice place to visit. It can stand some cleaning though. My husband and I enjoyed the views and the houses on the river. It's a beautiful spot.

A very peaceful spot. Hoped to see some boats going down the river, but on Monday morning it was very quiet.

Fun just watching the boaters out on the river. You will enjoy this city site you can even eat at the cafe.

We took a stroll along the Savannah river while we were visiting Augusta. It was an interesting to read the plaques along the way to read the history of Augusta. I did not know “cotton was king” in Augusta.

A lot to see. There are sculptures through out the walk. The place was clean. The homes across the river are gorgeous. However, there are very few people who were walking along the walk and the few who were appeared to be a bit questionable. Other than that, nice. I recommend a group walk and not an individual walk and keep it in the day time.

The views were amazing! We took so many photos! It’s good exercise. I definitely recommend everyone to go out and walk it.

Only Wilmington NC has a better riverwalk. This is without a doubt the best-constructed river walk I have ever visited if only they had more restaurants it would contend with Wilmington.

Beautiful scenery, beautiful walk, sadly the impact of bad weather last year has parts of the playground areas and aesthetics in disarray. 5th Street bridge walk closeby, plenty of parking. I am sure the spring and summer is more busy. We will revisit!

Without a doubt you can tell the city of Augusta put a great deal of attention and care in building this long lovely public park. We enjoyed reading the plaques describing the history of the area. Plenty of street side parking and LARGE parking lots all along the way.
We were told by locals to avoid visiting the area late at night- not verifying this information in any way just passing it along as they did.

While probably in need of an update, the Riverwalk has always been a nice place for Augustinians to travel to and get nice sights of the Savannah River and perhaps catch the local farmer's market and concert venue. While not the safest place to be at night, it has its charm in the daytime, although the number of nearby attractions has diminished over the last few years with the closure some years ago of the National Science Foundation's Fort Discovery.

This is a beautiful and relaxing place to spend a summer day in Augusta. We walked both levels and enjoyed the open market and music. Be sure to check out the boat ride that departs from either end & the museum that is only a short walk away.

The Riverfront along the Savannah River is a great place to walk or stroll with terrific views of the Savannah River and across the river is South Carolina with some impressive homes with great architecture.

A wonderful place to walk or bike along the canal path between the Savannah river and the Augusta canal. Level unpaved path with plenty of room for strollers. Distances are marked and there are multiple access points.

This is the most exquisite place in Augusta. The walkway around the river, shops and eateries are beautifully landscaped and beautiful Statues to tell the History of the Augusta National Golf Course. Wonderful day spent with Family here. Can't wait to return!

Pleasant place to visit for a stroll, jog alongside the river. There is a play area for small children. A cafe for drinks.

What a great way to see parts of Augusta! The riverwalk takes you past some beautiful boats/yachts, under a bridge, etc.. Parking is at a premium but there is a parking structure across the river where you must pay.

This was our first time visiting the Riverwalk. We enjoyed the scenery and tranquility of the river and surrounding areas.

Visiting during a trip to see our new home in GA and loved the outdoor shopping experience. Many vendors set up, selling a wide variety of items. Beautiful outdoor areas to sit and relax also’

The riverwalk was great for walking. It also has a playground for the kids. Very peaceful to get away from work and just enjoy the outdoors.

We walked the length of the riverwalk. Plenty of places to sit, take pics and gaze across at the riverfront houses on the South Carolina side of the Savannah River. Great place to unwind and get in a nice leisurely walk.

Very nice area to walk along the river, sit in a swing or on a bench and take in the view. If it's not too hot outside and a breeze is blowing, it's a great experience. Three story mansions have taken over the South Carolina side of the river, and you can hear all the construction noise and leaf blowers if you are there at the right time.

Love to walk along the river walk on Saturday mornings after visiting the Saturday farmers market. Bring the family & pets great views of the river. Super fun atmosphere on those days with great food, music, crafts and fresh vegetables and bakery items

Very clean good place to walk and a lot of events happen there and pretty view of homes on the river

Nice park like environment for walk. Right downtown for easy access. Enjoyed walking and watching boats pass.

I enjoyed coming here and climbing the stairs to the berm and seeing the river below. There are great historical plaques where you can learn about what life here was like 100 years ago or even about the local geology.
The river itself seems peaceful and tranquil and it's a nice way to spend part of the day.

The river walk has a high brick walk and a walk right on the river. We walked the high path. It's a beautiful brick path with buildings on one side, lots of interesting things to read built right into the path, a roman sundial, history of the river, Augusta, the trains, etc, plaques all along the way, amphitheater, lovely benches and seating areas covered by flowering vines on lattice . It's really the nicer part of Augusta .

The Savannah River is n a very real sense the mother of Augusta, where earliest settlements were on islands in the powerful stream. Later a succession of indigenous nations established themselves along Its banks to hunt, fish, and trade. When the British spread out from Savannah into greater Georgia, they used the vast river as their highway, stopping at the Augusta rapids through which they couldn’t safely advance their boats. They built great homes, amazing churches, cotton mills, laborers’ cottages and the Augusta canal, which made it all possible.
In the following centuries, much of earliest Augusta was washed away by fire, flood, and flight, but many treasures remain. The best way to experience the rich natural and and social history of Augusta is surely to walk sections of the about-12-mile Augusta Riverwalk and Canal Trails.
Begin at the Augusta Museum of History at 560 Reynolds St for an overview of life in Augusta. Pick up maps of the Riverwalk and Canal trails and plan your visit. You could easily spend three days walking, shopping, picknicking, kayaking and taking hundreds of pictures. This organization of trails is surely one of the most beautiful in Georgia.
Because the paths run from the oldest parts of downtown to the nature preserve between the canal and the river, you’ll need a car or bike to get to the various entrances to the trail. It’s easy to get on and off the path because parking is accessible and, once you’re out of downtown, it’s free.
Parts you won’t want to miss, starting from the *Augusta Museum of History
*St Paul’s Church, originally built for all faiths and so shared
*The Riverwalk views, playground, gardens, picnic tables, access to shops and hotels.
*The Morris Museum of Art. The Morris has a beautiful and fascinating collection of the finest Southern art. Even children are fascinated by scenes, portraits, and gatherings represented.
Drive to the Augusta Canal Trail, starting at the *Canal Discovery Center then to
*Sibley Mill, old Confederate Powderworks now cyber center. Endless photo opportunities. Occasional tours. Call 706-823-0440.
*pack water and a snack. Be ready for a walk along the towpath between the canal and the Savannah.
*Canal trail and waterfall. Wear appropriate shoes. Drive to and park in the lot at end of Milledge Rd. There’s a clean new bathroom. Cross the bridge and go down to the waterfall where it’s usually cool and sunny with lots of opportunities for play.
*From here you can choose your trail. Up and along the towpath you will see a wide variety of wildflowers, water birds, turtles, ducks, sometimes otters.
You may prefer to get your car and move it to another access point on the trail. Check the mile markers. Read the signs that indicate distances along the trail. There are no vehicles allowed on the trail so be ready to double back.
*Walk or bike with the canal on your left as far as the waterworks, then on to the picnic clearing. There is a toilet here. Do not believe those who say you can swim. The canal is deep and clogged with underwater grasses and sunken branches. The river is treacherous. Unsuspecting swimmers are taken every year.
*Continue still further to the lock system at the head of the rapids and the end of the Piedmont. If you doubt you want to walk up there and back, go for your carvand drive then visit the locks.

A good place to walk around when the weather was cool, no mosquitoes. The trail was easy to walk. However, there was not much water in the creek. We did not see so called swamp.

Water had a little trash that had collected, but sure they will work on that. All brick sidewalks connected to Marriott Hotel and a Museum. Nice to do on nice days.

The Riverwalk is a sidewalk along the Savannah River - nothing more. I suspect, in the beginning, this was a great idea. But, as with plans, they need funding, maintenance, and protecting. After the sidewalk was finished, the city apparently abandoned the idea. Lighting failed, the sidewalk crumbled, and the crime . . . well, do not go there after dark.

Nice walk. Very view. Several plackards to explain the area. On Saturday there is a market right off the Riverwalk. Good breakfast and local artists.

This is a creation for any city with a river way. We went on July 4th and thoroughly enjoyed the fireworks over the Savannah River. The Riverwalk is a must while in Augusta.

My life's love and I enjoyed the stroll along the river. Peaceful, and romantic. The day we went it was a bit cool so, dress accordingly. However, he did offer his jacket as he placed it around my shoulders. Great scenery.

Attended annual Augusta Mile Breast Cancer Walk. Beautiful site and vendor's and city support and friends.

Both upper and lower levels to stroll on. Benches on upper level. Enjoyed climbing and descending the stairs.
Great views. Nearby restaurants and hotel. Nearby fountain and free parking

Very beautiful scenery. Very quiet and relaxing. Can take your dogs walking. Can also take kids. Great place to walk or sit and just relax. Also has an amphitheater for entertainment. Also restaurants nearby.

We had a little time to kill before dinner so we toured downtown Augusta and ended up on the Riverwalk. It is very pleasant to watch the river and rowers zooming down the waterway.

Had a great walk along the shaded path on Saturday morning and found a great surprise; a farmer's market.

There is easy access to the riverwalk and it is a peaceful place with beautiful views. Great place to walk.

Nice park on the river. Few shops & restaurants close. Easy parking. Good playground for children. Saw several homeless people but nobody bothered us.
Quiet walk
The city is trying to revitalize the downtown and the Riverwalk is part of that. Beautiful homes can be seen on the walk as well as some shops. The art museum, located on the second floor of an office building across from the Marriott, is housed in a building on the riverwalk. Although not on the same scale as riverwalks in San Antonio or New Orleans, it is pleasant and certainly worth doing if already downtown.
