A very different beach

By Dianne O |

Covered in small and large beach stones and abundant driftwood, Ruby Beach certainly has a different look to the sandy beaches I am used to on the east coast of Australia, but beautiful nonetheless. It is the northernmost of the southern beaches in the coastal section of the Olympic National Park. The views from the beach are enhanced by the rock sea stacks close to the shore. Be prepared to climb over boulders to get down to the beach.

Such a great beach to explore

By Megan F |

This was a great beach to explore the tidepools. It is a bit of a hike from the parking area to the beach but worth the trip. The area was beautiful with the mist coming off the beach and the sky a beautiful blue.

Awesome

By Rachel D |

We thought this beach would be the same as Rialto Beach, but was pleasantly surprised! Great sand and mild waves. Our teen said she was living her best life there!

Wow...stunning

By nadomom2 |

This is one of the most beautiful beaches. The gigantic pile of driftwood was great to climb around on.

Absolutely stunning!

By TXMARTINS |

On a sunny day you will be hard pressed to find a beach that is more beautiful. Crystal clear water, old logs, beautiful rocks & huge trees. With a small parking lot this can fill up fast & requires some maneuvering to get over some logs & down to the beach so wear appropriate shoes! Little difficult to get small kids over the logs so plan accordingly!

Absolutely stunning

By Deborah T |

Be cautious walking down to the beach, but once you do the views and sunsets are absolutely to die for. Perfect place to get away from it all and enjoy the beauty of the PNW.

Gorgeous!

By reise3 |

What an absolutely stunning beach! Rock formations, driftwood, smooth stones, tide pools...a photographer's dream. This beach is worth a visit at any time of day or weather. Go early though if you want the beach "to yourself" & look at the tide chart for low tide if you're interested in exploring the tide pools. Be mindful of the abundance of stones & wear appropriate footwear.

Amazing

By OKWorldTraveler923 |

Turning the corner at Ruby Beach was breath taking. There were at least 15 foot waves on the day we went to visit. Simply a breathtaking site!

Worth stopping by

By Shubh K |

Short walk to the beach from the parking lot. Driftwood, tide pools, and some interesting rock formations. I prefer Rialto beach but this is a popular stop.

Nice beach

By Sarah S |

We liked going and seeing the cool rock formations. It is fun. Not for swimming but for exploring. Perfect for families

A highlight of my vacation

By malyko |

I am so happy we stopped at Ruby Beach. I loved listening to the water hit the rocks on the beach. I think this is a must.

Lovely

By pjgrad |

We had the pleasure of exploring Ruby Beach for several hours. First, the walk down is a lovely trail which opens onto a huge amount of driftwood/logs. Fun to climb on for kids I would think. There are sea stacks much like Cannon Beach. The tide was way out and the tide pools were great. There was also a very large dead whale on the beach...something I've never seen. The beach wasn't too crowded despite it being a beautiful summer weekend end day. I know it is supposed to have a ruby tint to the sand but frankly we never saw that.

A nice pacific northwestern beach

By Gregory S |

Despite being called Ruby Beach because of red stones there were very few of these seen. That being said it was still a pretty beach that was not crowded in July and did not have any pollution noted on the beach.

Great Beach walk

By DGoat |

Great walk down rocky/sandy beach. Saw eagles, porpoise and seal. Would have been better at lowest tide. Lots of drift wood.

Not to be missed

By BFRN17 |

Do what you need to do to get here, it’s beautiful. There are so many big fallen trees on the beach that have been here so long they are almost silver. The waves are such a nice sound. It was pretty quiet when we were there in September. No hiking required, you can park right next to the beach. There is a great expanse of dark gray sand (depending on tides) leading to smooth rocks, most oval. There are some large outcroppings of rocks off shore. The beach is so smooth it almost looks like concrete. The weather goes from sunny to cloudy to mist quickly but it’s a great place. No fee required for entrance here.

“Beach 4” just down the road - you could skip that one. It’s not very accessible and we saw no tide pools.

Nice views

By lorik221 |

Stopped here while doing the loop of Olympic national park. We heard there might be some starfish at low tide. We arrived a bit early but after waiting around we decided that there probably would not be any and left after an hour. The rocks are somewhat difficult to walk on and it takes a bit to get to the beach level. It is nice to walk around but def not swim the waves are too intense in some areas. We even met a couple who asked if we were from Ct since I had my UConn sweatshirt on.. They grew up 40 min south of where we live but now live out here . Small world. Great area to take pics though.

Beautiful, must see

By ILJules |

Popular tourist stop, but a must see. Gorgeous sea stacks and during lower tide you can easily see a lot of tide pool creatures. Stop and take a walk down the beach. There will be a lot of over tourists, but enough room to spread out. Parking might be iffy during high season.

Ethereal and otherworldly

By Mike M |

I wasn't even sure I wanted to go here and it ended up being my favorite place we saw on our whole trip!
Don't let the rain keep you away. We visited one afternoon and it was gray and spitting rain but it was so beautiful. I would use the word ethereal, otherworldly.
So we wandered around a bit and the next morning we had time so we back. It wasn't raining and it may even had a little sunshine but it was like a different place entirely!
Just stunning. We didn't see a sunset but it is amazingly gorgeous anytime of the day and I would say in any weather! Just Go!

Olympic Gem

By Debbie C |

A gem of a setting. With limited time in the area, this beach was selected as a stop. It did not disappoint!! It is an easy find with quick access on and off Hwy 101. It has a small parking lot which seemed to accommodate everyone on the day visited. Approaching the parking lot, it will be difficult to focus on anything but the view. Spectacular!! It's a short walk from the lot to the water. It was low tide the day visited which allowed for easier access. Once near the water, you will not want to leave this location. Wear sturdy shoes in order to navigate the piles of driftwood. Then, there are tidepools, ocean tumbled rocks, and a lovely mix of sea stacks, driftwood, and water as far as you can see! (sea fog may limit the view).
This beach whetted the appetite for more. Can't wait to return to the lush surroundings of the Olympic peninsula!!

Wonderful place and very convenient.

By Erik E |

Right off the highway and a short stroll from the parking lot. My family loved it here, it is absolutely worth a stop.

Beautiful West coast views

By MAR319 |

This was a beautiful peaceful beach that had beautiful west coast views, rocks, trees, lots of drift wood, just simply beautiful.

Must do

By ashish d |

A very scenic beach I have ever seen in USA. If you are driving by please stop by and enjoy the beach, In summer time temp at the beach is still 60deg plan for proper gears. You can see the rundown from mountains going into the ocean which is very rear.
Rocks on the beach are very unique and photogenic.

This is a must on any journey down Washington coast

By twysted2015 |

So glad we stopped here and highly recommend it to anyone travelling along the coast. One of the best stops on our way down to Oregon. Uncrowded and the walk down can be made by almost any age group. Clean, beautiful, stunning. We will be back.

A gem of a beach

By Wuckers |

This was the last beach we visited on our week long trip. It was also the best! Got there just after low tide and you can walk for miles and also a very wide beach- can walk out very far to the water line. Some of the rocks help a lot of critters including starfish! We got some great photos of them!
Trees and sea stacks make this a real nice beach. Very pretty!
Happened upon a dead seal with a bite taken out of it- sad but kid got a close up look at a seal and we talked a bit about what might have bitten the seal and how it may have died.
Would do this beach again for sure! Best beach to us by a wide margin.

Beautiful!!

By Rebecca H |

It was my first beach in PNW! So different & beautiful in a different way then the Southeast USA. The tide pools were amazing & filled with starfish! I’ve never seen live starfish in the ocean! The drift wood is everywhere & stones instead of sand on the beach. We made a half day of this trip, staying for sunset which did not disappoint.
Note, the beach is off the beaten path & not many places to stop if heading to/from Port Angeles area. You will want to stock up on food/snacks & gas before you go. There are bathrooms but they are port-a-potty nature in small brick buildings.
Hope to return!!

Beautiful but be careful driving into parking lot - HUGE potholes

By mtjenSA |

Try to make it to Ruby Beach at Sunset - it's magical. I recommend getting your dinner to go in Forks and have a picnic while watching the sun go down then taking a walk on the beach after dinner.

One note of caution, the drive into the parking lot is full of very deep potholes. Be very careful if driving in late without good lighting without a car/truck that has high clearance. The car in front of us hit really hard and had to get a tow out because the car was left not drivable.

Stunning

By Kathy M |

What a combination. Rock islands, tide pools, drift logs and the beach. It was a fun hike down to the beach that covered a nice trail, traversing some rocks and driftwood. We started out at low tide to see the tide pools; however, the tide started coming in so we didnt get out as far as we would have liked as we had our hiking shoes on. I can see why this is the most photographed beach in WA and is not one to miss. I felt like I was on a movie set.

It Was a Dark and Stormy Afternoon

By SuperTed19 |

On a sunny day, this beach is likely a beautiful place to visit. On a rainy day, however, it is STILL a beautiful place to visit. Dress for the weather and enjoy everything there is to be discovered on this jewel of the northwest.

Tidal pools and sea stacks

By Genvieve |

This was a beautiful beach to explore the many sea stacks and tidal pools on the Olympic coast. There are pit toilets at the parking area and a path that leads down to the beach. I spent hours here taking pictures of the rocks, sea stars and anemones.

Spectacular- even with adverse weather

By KristinW25 |

I am from the South, so I had never really experienced a Pacific northwest beach before, and this one did not disappoint. Easy to access if you're in Olympic national, ample parking, and free. Don't miss this stop!

Beautiful beach - strollers are not an option

By lpdutil |

We stopped with our one year old and luckily carried him down the path to the beach, because once there, you have to climb over a bunch of drift logs to get to water. However, it’s a beautiful west coast beach! We went during high tide so didn’t see any starfish, but still worth the stop!

A name fit for this beautiful beach

By Guido |

Easy access.
Dramatic rocky beach, rough sea, blue sky and a small stream that flows through it : picture postcard!
Best visit is at low tide.

Our trip down the 101

By davidpM9586WT |

We came across this beach on our way to the HOH rain forest. It is very close to the beginning of the 101 and definitely worth the stop. In August the water is ice cold, but the views are breath taking. You must walk through the forest and down a path (less than 200 yrs). Great drift wood and amazing rock formations make for some of the best photos I took on the trip from Washington to San Francisco CA

Tide Pool Exploration

By Eileen D |

Do not skip this spot. Be sure to go at low tide for best viewing in the tide pools. Not too crowded and plenty of area for visitors to spread out. We loved discovering all the little sea creatures in the tide pools. Be aware that you have to climb over rows and rows of huge drift wood trees that have washed up on the beach.

Wow! Just wow!

By Theresa A |

We took a leisurely drive up Highway 101 in the Olympic National Park and came across a sign that said "Ruby Beach". Parking was ample, there are toilets in the parking lot, and a trail that leads down to the beach which was easily traversed. When you get to the end of the trail, please note that there is a huge log jam so you have to crawl over the logs to get to the beach. Please do not do this at high tide!! At low tide, you can explore rock stacks that are pretty amazing along with tide pools. Beware of sneaker waves though if you venture among the rocks. I think this is my favorite beach!

Steep Path to Beach But Well-Maintained

By Doug Shaffer, Anderson Island, WA |

This may be the most beautiful beach on the West Coast, and I've been to many of them - even in Oregon. The trail down, however, is somewhat steep (but short) and ends in a huge pile of large driftwood that you have to cross to get the the absolutely wonderful beach. A bit tricky and not for disabled folks.

Essential beach view

By BeginsInWonder |

We stopped here early in the morning. The high surf made impressive waves. There were large driftwood tree trunks to climb over. The beach was shingle and curved around. There was a free standing rock that rose dramatically out of the sea. It is stunning scenery. You will love it if you are a photographer and have a good camera.

Beautiful beach

By debadritap |

It is a beautiful huge beach with rocky structures near the water. Went to watch the sunset at the beach and it looked amazing with sun rays lighting up the rocky structures. Definitely worth a visit if you are visiting the Olympic national park.

When ever your out this way you have to stop and see the beauty

By Bill P |

The beach is part of the National Park and just plain beautiful. We spent the morning there swimming, You have to watch for Rip tide. Some of us and walking around taking pictures. You can't remove anything from the beach according to the Rangers. that didn't stop the beauty for everyone to see.
The rock formations and pictures between the hole in one of them came out great.

Beautiful Beach

By djphaneuf |

First beach we came to after driving through Olympic Park from Port Angeles. Majestic view of waves and rocks from the top. An easy walk down to the beach and challenging hop over driftwood logs and you are on the beach. Very beautiful to see crashing waves, big rocks and tidal pools. Highly recommend the walk down unless you are unable to walk across logs.

Heaven on Earth

By snicholer |

Arrived about an hour and a half before sunset and wished I had been there all day. Driftwood, dark sand, rocks, reflecting pools...and the magical sea haze. Tall evergreens line the edge of the beach. Stunning. About a 2 or 3 minute walk down to the beach. Bring a meal, stay for a while. Wish I did!

The perfect northern west coast beach

By Christopher P |

Ruby beach is what you imagine when you think of a rocky Oregon/Washington beach. It's got all the dramatic features along with cool tide pools when the tide is out. Even if the tide is in there's plenty to see and explore. Great spot.

Tide pools, cliffs, rocks, and sand

By GoAlong2 |

Just off the highway, a large parking area with restrooms is the starting point to a short steep trail down to the beach. When the tide is out, the board sandy beach connects to a large seastack island with tide pools at the base with crabs, sea stars, mussels, and anenomies. This a great place for a beach walk and exploring.

A Gem

By kurt l |

WOW. Rugged rock formations, lots of large drift wood, pristine beach. My two grandkids spent a couple of hours checking out the scenery. They constantly wanted me to take pictures of them posing against the associated features. All of us really had fun. Caution- beach access may be a bit challenging due to the buildup of large driftwood (logs).

If you can, take the walk down

By Joebob747 |

Last time we were pressed for time, so we just kind of looked down from the parking lot. This time we went down the fairly steep trail, several switchbacks, maybe 100 yds, to beach level. Totally worth it. The tide was still going out so there were all these little rivers draining the water out of the sand. Really pretty, and yes, I'm still 8 yrs old sometimes, so fun to knock some sand into and watch it wash away. We did not find any tide pools but I'm sure we weren't looking in the right spots.

Texas Travelers

By Leighton H |

WOW!! This is a beach worth experiencing! Easy walk and just a picture opportunity galore. Parking can be a bit difficult/ hard to find. It’s worth your time no doubt.

Sunset Over the Pacific

By TrailTrekker15 |

Ruby Beach is known and named for the stunning sunsets. We had the privilege of witnessing the sunset over Pacific Ocean. There is a trail from the parking area down to the beach. Be aware that driftwood must be climbed over in order to access the beach. It is one of the most beautiful places ever! We lingered and walked down the beach. Great pinnacles of rock rise out of the surf and sand all along the beach. Giant tide pools are also present and present a chilly challenge to determine how to cross them. It is really difficult to comprehend this is a real place! Definitely make it a part of your trip to Olympic National Park!

Out of the way gem

By SergeGTS |

We’ve heard Ruby Beach is on of the most beautiful beaches in WA. It might be?!
It’s really nice. Surprisingly large and lots to explore. Go on a long walk, or climb rocks, or look at the tide pools… there is something for everyone!

The Pacific Ocean’s rock additions made this stop awesome!

By TennisStar602 |

I took a curvy trail down to the beach’s floor from the parking lot. There were bathrooms at this stop. I loved the major rock formations with some trees which were located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The terrain was difficult to cross due to many rocks and quite a few logs, as well.

Natural Beaty

By Jeri Jo S |

Views were beautiful but the water is pretty rough with lots of lumber debris so not a place you come to play in the water. We stopped at beach 1 and 3 also very pretty.

Short Walk to a Beautiful View

By laraeof6 |

On a recent visit to Olympic peninsula we stopped in to see Ruby Beach. It was recommended as a short walk. It was a easy walk until you get to the beach and then if you want to get nearer to the shore you do have to straddle or walk over some big driftwood logs. It is worth it. The view is great. Many families were enjoying the shore up and down the beach.

Traveled all over Washington and this was our favorite place.

By Lisa P |

Our family of 5 traveled to many beaches along the coast in this area and many places in Washington in general but this beach was the must see of our trip. The tide pools and rocky cliffs. The foggy mist coming up off the ocean and the creek set back with children swimming in it was wonderful.

A Wild and Beautiful Beach

By Claire M |

We started our day walking the beach. Luckily, we snagged one of the last spots in the lot. You have to climb over some rocks to get to the beach, but it was fairly easy to access. The tide was out but was coming in....do pay attention to the tides so as not to get stranded and have to wade thru the rough surf back to the start. There are lots of tidal pools, and it is fun to admire and touch the sea anemones, who recoil at your touch. You won’t harm them if you touch them lightly. As we walked along the beach, I saw what looked like a really large log washed up on the sand. I squinted, and kept thinking, “Log, no, could it be a beached whale?” As my husband and I got closer, it was indeed a beached whale. It had not been there for that long, because the flies and stench were not yet too bad. Poor thing.....my husband paced off along the dead body, and it must have been 35-40 feet long. A sad, but unique, sight.

Foggy Beauty

By Mandy W |

I am sure when the sky is clear and the fog isn't rolling in this place is stunning! We are from Florida, so our beaches are drastically different from the rocky shores of the Pacific Northwest. Crashing waves into huge rocks, pebble stone beaches, tons of driftwood. Not a place to sun bathe, but a good campfire and beer with friends sounds like an awesome day at this beach.

Absolute Favorite Beach - Beautiful Sunset & Tide Pools Galore!

By redhead_roaming |

Perhaps it was the incredible weather or beautiful sunset or just the fact that it's a huge beach, allowing a large number of people to really space out... but we absolutely loved our time at Ruby Beach. We went to Ruby, Rialto and Second Beach and Ruby was our favorite by far!

First off, if the weather is nice, I would suggest going for sunset. Low tide was also about 10 minutes before sunset so it was perfect timing to do both. If you follow the little creek to your right when you exit the trail, there will be a log (a makeshift bridge) to get to the other side. It's not going to sweep you away at any point if you decide to walk through but we didn't want to get wet. Anyway, the point to getting to the other side is that both places we found for tide pools are on the other side. They are on either side of the giant rock formation. We searched extensively at Rialto Beach for starfish and never saw one - Ruby Beach was hoarding them all! We were very much enjoying ourselves and only saw maybe 3 other people in and around the tide pools while we were there. I think because it's a little difficult to know how to get to the other side to even access the tide pools, most people stay on the left side of the beach.

We sat on the driftwood further up the beach, close to where you enter the beach from the parking lot, and watched the sunset. It was so magical. We were there for about 2 hours total and it wasn't quite enough but since the sun had set, I didn't want to worry about trying to get back in the dark. We did see people with dogs (it's a dog-friendly beach) on the beach but they all had them on leashes.

Beautiful, Unique Beach

By PowerTrippers |

We've visited hundreds of beaches so it's not easy to impress us but this was a beautiful and unique beach. It was great just to get out of the car for awhile, stretch our legs and explore this beach. Lots of old, bleached trees lying on the beach as well as some great drift wood. Definitely worth a visit.

Cool beach

By Nicole B |

My family enjoyed a picnic sitting on driftwood logs on this beach. It was cool as there was no sand, but round rocks. The day we visited was sunny and bright. It was rumored that this beach was featured in the Goonies movie.

Gorgeous

By SeattleKellye |

Wonderful driftwood beach. There is a long trail to descend, plus you have to climb over some driftwood to access the beach, so it would be hard for a disabled person to access,

Tide pools and Starfish

By WildHaireAdventures |

Stopped by Ruby Beach and didn’t wanna leave, just gorgeous, beyond words! We were there at low tide and we saw hundreds of starfish and other wildlife in the tide pools. Wasn’t crowded at all when we were there, beach was super clean. All the driftwood kinda gave it a magical look, can’t wait to return one day, don’t miss this gem!

Amazing beach with lots to see and do!

By Nocilantro52 |

My sister and her husband had been to this place and insisted we go with them. Didn't take much persuasion once we were there and saw how wonderful it is. There's a bit of a walk down to the beach and not suited for handicapped, but if you can navigate it, the reward is worth it!

The beach is made up of granite rocks of different size. But the most wonderful part are the big rock formations, many of which have arches and holes to explore. There are many amazing photo opportunities both on the beach and off the shore. We could have spent many hours exploring, but some of the family couldn't make it down the trail so we had to go back up. Plan to spend at least an hour because there is a lot to take in.

Forever Beautiful in my memory… Ruby Beach

By Heather A |

I have been in love with Ruby Beach for 8 years…ever since the evening my son , who was stationed on a nearby base, took me there… I was stunned by its beauty and peacefulness! I revisited it every year since ..
I returned August 20, 2021 and saw another side of my favorite beach…unfortunately not a happy side:.I witnessed a overload of people there..and even though there are trash receptacles and bathrooms VERY available i witnessed people(?) not bothering to utilize either…maddening and sad to witness…I will always love and remember the Ruby Beach I fell in love with but I will never return…I hope these dirty people will stay home or not “litter” this beautiful place in the future…❤️❤️.

Quick stop while driving from Lake Quinault to Lake Cresent - worth visiting for a while!

By Pam S |

Just happened upon Ruby Beach on our drive from Lake Quinault to Lake Crescent, and glad we did. It was a fun little walk down to the beach, and then the beach is absolutely beautiful. Reminded me a bit of Cannon Beach, Oregon!

It is a nice scenic place.

By bobmeen |

It is a nice scenic place not far away from 101 . We reached on a cloudy and rainy day. One could go for walks in the beach . Saw some people swimming in the beach but we didnot venture since we were not adequately prepared and had a busy schedule

Was much more incredible than pics can show

By Michael H |

I had no knowledge of this place and honestly didn't know what it was, except that it's a beach. It was cool the morning we went, but the sun shone through by late morning and it was warm. Our grandson especially enjoyed climbing and building in the driftwood. Low-tide wildlife is really cool to see in and amongst the rocks. Would go back again and grandson didn't want to leave

Gorgeous!

By BWO |

Being used to beaches on the SE coast, we found Ruby Beach so totally different and unexpected. The driftwood and rock formations added another level to the beauty of the shore. Children ran around checking out the small aea critters in thd tidal pools. Couples walked the beach enjoying the beauty and sounds of this special place. One of our favorite stops on the peninsula!

Beautiful beach with aquatic life

By Becki C |

The beach is beautiful. We walked out to the large rock and found starfish on the shores of the rocks facing the water coming in. A little bit of steep downward decline walk down to the beach.

Absolutely gorgeous!

By jautrey21 |

In one day we got to see Rialto, LaPush, and Ruby. All are so beautiful that they took away my words. Of the three Ruby was probably my favorite as its features really appealed to me. The flat stones stacked on washed up trees was a cool, unexpected treat and I placed a few of my own there. If in NW Washington state don't miss a chance to see these beaches. You will not be disappointed!

Rugged and Wild Coastal Tidepools

By Erlinda C |

A gorgeous beach with beautiful rock formations. Try to go during a low tide. A scenic walk on the beach too. We saw a few tidepool animals as well a few animals that had washed up (dead sea lion and a large skate).

Hidden gem for sure

By Grace K. |

I wasn’t expecting greatness but I got it. Despite it being cold, windy, and overcast, this beach had such amazing views and rivaled Canon Beach for me. The driftwood was such a fun thing to jump and balance test on, and I ended up spotting and rescuing a banana slug that I found along the road down. It gave me such an amazing view at one point, which I’ll include in photos. Fun fact, Forks WA where Ruby Beach is, is the setting for Twilight.
Only fun memories from my visit here.

Mystical Wonder

By Cindy H |

Our family did a quick stop to see the ocean front at Ruby Falls. We were taken aback by the breath taking views. The rock formations and large trees- that were stacked as drift wood in sections along the shore were fun to climb and explore. It was very windy, cool temps. with over cast clouds - but still very enjoyable. I wish we would of scheduled more time walking along the shore line.

Ruby Beach

By clifford.a530 |

This is an incredible place to visit - sea stacks, huge piles of driftwood, warmer shallow pools to splash in at low tide, awesome waves crashing in.

One Hour Walk

By ExcitedNYS |

Parked in lot, walked down to beach, have to walk over large logs to get to beach. Absulotely gorgeous beach.

Beautiful, rocky/pebbly beach

By MdTravelerX2 |

Ruby Beach is incredible. The beach is a pebbles and rocks polished smooth by time. The rocks are rich colors and mottled greys. It's generally easy hking with a few driftwood logs to cross along the way. We hiked to the Hole in the Wall but didn't try to access it as the tide was too high. Still, a beautiful and unique site. It rained, typical of the Pacific NW. One just puts on their raingear and keeps going. We didn't see "ruby"--apparently it is best at sunset.

Ruby Is Amazing

By Robson |

Been coming here for the past 3 years and it never fails. Amazing sea stacks and beautiful views. Don't miss it. It's worth the small hike down to the beach.

Excellent Beach

By TACOB0B |

This is a must do if in the area. The path down to the beach from the parking lot is steep and gravely but if we could do it just about anybody can. Once on the beach it is amazing. Highly recommend.

Unexpected Delight! bring a camera.

By Captains_Rum_Punch |

What a wonderful beach to visit. A short walk down to the beach is rewarded with a wonderfully interesting beach. Great for kids, dogs, lovers and photographers. Walk as far a you want. The sea stacks are amazing. The driftwood is also endless. Bring a picnic and make a day of it. Bathrooms are in the parking lot.

Great stop off US Hwy 101 and a delightful way to sample Sea Stacks, Cobbles and the Surf

By Bruce W |

We stayed at Kalaloch and visited Ruby Beach twice. Each visit was refreshing and a wonder to experience and behold. You take a short winding trail down to the beach, navigate around the large logs of driftwood and onto the cobble beach. Of course, many people have their pictures taken by the large Sea Stack with the 2 “windows” or holes-if it’s at low tide or thereabouts. Our visits weren’t quite timed to sample the aquatic tide pool life. Very exhilarating and well worth a stop.

Most scenic beach in this area

By Amarbat P |

This beach was most scenic and picturesque one within surrounding beaches. Please, make you cameras ready for shoot.

Nice and must stop

By wisconsinitesGOPACK |

If you are only going to stop at one beach, I suggest Ruby Beach. It is all what it is cracked up to be. You can walk either way on beach to see sea structures and sea caves.

You've seen it in many movies

By David A Edwards |

I knew I wanted to see this beach but couldn't remember its name when I was on the road, so I jumped at the first beach where 101S hit the water. I wasn't disappointed - the classic sea stacks, the pebble beach and tons of washed up timber (a lot with snow on them). It's certainly worth a stop and explore.

Fantastic Beach with Sea Stacks and Driftwood

By Losa C |

This is a must see beach. Everyone should stop here. The scenery is amazing. It's an easy little hike down to the beach. Definitely bring a camera.

Beautiful beach

By denise b |

We got there at low tide so in addition to the sea stacks, we had a ton of fun with the tide pools. Easy enough to get to and it's big enough that you're not crowded. We even got to watch a couple of sea otters run for the water. A great way to spend the day, especially if you have kids.

Sunset

By deetravelerworld |

Beautiful, romantic place to watch the sunset. Please capture the moment, must visit if you’re in washington.

Beautiful even in the worst weather

By Leftmehere |

We traveled here from Union. It was a miserable rainy foggy day but we were still captivated by how beautiful Ruby Beach was.

Stunning scenery

By LizzyB01 |

loved this beach it's pretty! just bring a jacket as it gets really cold here, but it's beautiful, don't miss this. it's an easy hike down to the beach.

A must to see

By linda r |

We really enjoyed ruby beach with all the tide pools and driftwood everywhere. While we were there the fog rolled in. Absolutely beautiful.

Calm, picturesque and easy to access

By anitgeorge |

There was some Sun and cold breeze when I visited this place(11/11).

This beach has good connectivity via road, good parking facility and restrooms. No food/water supply available near the beach, so carry if you plan to stay here for more than a couple of hours.

The beach is calm calm, clean and peaceful. A good camera would be handy

Super busy beach

By Viajera172705 |

Prior to stopping at Ruby Beach, we went to Beach 2, which was several miles back. Beach 2 was gorgeous with all of the driftwood. After searching for a parking spot in the lot that was full, we made our way down to the beach. Since it was super busy the day we went, it didn’t seem as peaceful or beautiful as the other beach.

Wonderful storm watching

By Senioronabudget |

Went during heavy storm. Watching the waves (from a safe spot) was dramatic. If calm, would be a nice beach walk.

Great place to visit

By Mindy |

My first experience on a west coast beach. A lot of beautiful rock formations and driftwood, played peek a boo with some seals and watched the sunset. It was perfect

Invigorating beach experience

By LSUTraveller |

An easy walk from the parking lot to the tumbled rock beach. Lots of flotsam washed up due to the tidal/wave action. Great scenes of the sea stacks and a great place for a picnic.

Spectacular and fun

By Imelda49 |

Ruby beach has lots of tide pools for enjoying the sea life at low tide. Anemones, starfish, barnacles, sea urchins and other creatures cling to the rocks and you can spend hours enjoying them. The beach is very wide and sandy, so it is a perfect playground for both adults and children. We climbed on the rocks and enjoyed the sea life as well as the waves. The access is tricky if you are handicapped, as there is a steep walk down and then large driftwood logs at the bottom, but once you navigate those, the beach is smooth and wide. We spent a wonderful day there.

Must see, best beach in Washington

By TravelinSuz |

A true national treasure. The drift wood, off shore rocks, etc. make this an idealic place for photography. It’s so pretty and peaceful and just a plain joy to visit. You owe it to yourself to visit this beautiful place.

Must see!

By Helen C |

This place beats Canon Beach and Face Rock in Oregon. With it's driftwood and pebble Beach, it's definitely more mysterious and stands out as one of the best on the West Coast. Need to watch your step on the pebble beach because we saw someone being treated by the park ranger for a foot injury. Our hiking sticks helped us keep balance. Parking is difficult to get on a weekend. There are vault toilets at the parking lot. I don't think there is running water.

Breathtaking Vistas and easy walk

By mariposa67 |

During my three week trip of the National Park, I have more outstanding photos from Ruby Beach. It is an easy walk down to the beach and interesting sea stacks to explore. Photos are best in my opinion from the ridge above the beach. However, take the walk to explore the various perspectives at sea level.

Beautiful in every way!

By Shandy V |

The best beach we visited on our trip to ONP. We stayed a couple hours, just looking at the tide pools - admiring the starfish, mollusk and urchins. The view was unbeatable. The rocks were amazing. It was just a great time building cairns and hanging out. Though there were several there, it didn't seem crowded and parking wasn't bad. The walk to the beach from parking was easy. I'd love to go again - like today (if only).

Gorgeous view marred only by "stone stacking"

By Eiei O |

What a beautiful natural site! It's too bad that there were hundreds of stacks of stones to mar both the beauty of the location. Also, moving stones around like that actually harms the ecology, by disturbing the ecosystem.

This is the Pacific Northwest!!

By Mary Jo F |

The moment you step on this beach you know there is no other place to be! It is gorgeous! It has the look that just scream Pacific Northwest with all the huge rock formations in the ocean with the waves crashing all around them! Do not miss this beach!! And the walk down to the beach is an easy walk!!

My favorite WA coast beach

By ruthandvern |

This is a really outstanding beach! We drove down for sunset and returned the next day and spent a few hours at low and slack tide. The rocks are each outstanding. The beach is easy walking and the driftwood constructions are so beachy.

Gorgeous

By Rachel B |

Easy to get to and easy to walk on once you are there. I am not sure why everyone raves about Hole in the Wall at Rialto. There are several hole in the wall rock formations here and they are 50-200 feet from the end of the trail not a mile away.

Great National Park with Rainforest hikes, beautiful lakes, glacial mountains and beaches.

Excellent park to visit....visit my YouTube Channel for a complete adventure of this park at Adventures with Wes and Jeff.

Highlight on the Peninsula

By Angela_Houser |

On a day trip to Olympic NP from Seattle, Ruby Beach was one of our first stops (husband, 4 year old daughter, me). We just loved this beach so much and ended up spending more time here than originally planned. The scenery is unreal, my daughter enjoyed playing in the sand, and it’s just an eerily peaceful place. It makes a good first or second stop on a day trip from Seattle I’d you choose to start on the coast first (which might be a good idea as most people start in Port Angeles and by noon many places we stopped at were quite busy even though it was a Tuesday in mid September). It was nice to have a rather secluded beach as there were maybe 20 other people there.

Stunning!

By Stephanie P |

I went on an impromptu solo adventure on the Olympic Peninsula and it was 1000% worth it. Ruby Beach was not really a planned stop but I saw the sign and took the exit and caught a stunning sunset. Be still my heart!

Spectacular Washington coastline

By phvi2617 |

Ruby Beach is absolutely gorgeous, from the driftwood and tall trees to the waves crashing against sea stacks. It's right off Highway 101 and a short walk down from the parking lot. There is plenty to explore, but you'll want to wear good shoes on the rocky shore. Definitely a must-visit spot when visiting Olympic National Park.

Pretty, but would be gorgeous in the summer!

By Jen |

It’s a pretty beach even on a misty late summer day. In the summer this would be SO pretty! There is a viewing point that is wheelchair accessible, and/or you can do a little walk to get down to the beach. They also had restrooms.

nature at its best

By wellsfam |

This wild coastline has the unspoiled beauty you've been seeking, and you will dream about later. Make sure to take off your shoes and wade in the shallow reflective water.

Perfect place to watch sunset

By Steve T |

We drove there at 8:30 PM and waited for the sunset at 9:15 PM. It was truly breathtaking. Make sure to bring a jacket as it gets windy and cold!

Neat even at high tide

By dreamspeaker |

We went to Ruby Beach during high tide because it was nearby. We know the tidepooling is better at low tide, but even at high tide, the beach was really interesting. The rock formations, all the driftwood and logs, and the perfectly rounded pebbles of all kinds of colors made it really fun to walk around. There's a formation on the beach with a hole in it that's good for pictures, and there are also lots of situations where people appear to have built structures out of the logs on the beach. It's just a neat place, even at high tide.

Most interesting beach on the west coast of Olympic

By SeniorTravelerTF |

Ruby is interesting, beautiful and - as a bonus, easy to get to. The beach has a lot of downed trees (logs) brought in by the ocean, not piled high so the beach is inaccessible but enough so most will enjoy the challenge of climbing over and picking a route to the water. There is also a ribbon on stones that the water has worn smooth on their journey that beachcombers may enjoy picking through. It is easy to wade into the water with its gradual slope, but it is not a swimming beach. There are also rock formations, stacks, that can be explored for creatures, along with tidepools at the right time of day. And, already mentioned, the parking lot is a very short walk along a maintained path.

Stunning but busy spot

By greenpanther30 |

Wonderful beach, stunning vistas and opportunities to enjoy the views. We bought food and drinks from the nearby store and had our food watching the waves roll in. Plenty of parking and bathrooms. Very busy midday so aim for early or late to avoid the crowds. Enjoy

Nice Little Beach

By pfefmeister |

Living in Northern California, we have our share of dramatic beaches, but this one is more desolated, wild, and just great place for photo opportunities - I eventually painted a picture of this intriguing beach. The sea stacks fade into the distance with the forest encroaching unto the sand. Easy walk from the parking lot, this is a must visit when in Olympic National Park.

A nice scenic place that's worth stopping to see

By Diane B |

We stopped on the trail from the parking lot and snapped some beautiful photos. Continue down the trail to walk along the beach and enjoy the serenity and beauty of the area. Many logs washed up along part of the shore and looks like a logjam. Don't drive by without stopping, you won't be disappointed with the sigh.

Beautiful beach with unique coloring and stunning stacks!

By Isabella J |

This was a great stop during our day! Here are a few takeaways:
- Plenty of parking
- There are pit toilets but only two of them and the line gets pretty long
- Decent slope down to the beach, and then uphill on the way back
- Beautiful stacks
- Cool driftwood
- Make sure to look at the tides. If it’s low tide, you might be able to get views of marine life.
- You could easily spend 30 minutes here or 3 hours

very nice beach

By IAM576 |

It is a hike down the hill to beach. Once on the beach walks can be as long as you like. It is peaceful and beautiful.

Best beach in the Northwest

By Kurt G |

This place has amazed our family since we first travelled there in the early 60s. Epic, gorgeous. A favorite.

Beautiful beach with an easy walk down from the parking lot.

By parksvisitor |

Unfortunately for us, the rainiest it was during our ten day Washington trip was the afternoon we stopped at Ruby Beach, and it was during high tide. It is still a beautiful beach and a must visit. It was surprisingly busy considering it was mid-September, and of course, the rain. I imagine the parking lot fills up quickly in season. I also understand you might want to visit the beach during low tide, when the tide pools capture a large and colorful variety of ocean creatures.

LOVE this beach!!!!

By madieshopper |

One of the highlights of our 32 hour road trip from Michigan was this beach!!!!!! It was amazing going at low tide and coming back a few hours later!!! Our whole family didn’t want to leave!!!! Get there early for a parking spot if you have an RV!

NIce stopping place on Olympic NP drive

By Richard R |

Nice place to stop and view the ocean after seeing lots of trees. Really good views of the rocks and sand.

Anniversary Trip

By Tammie C |

This place is a local favorite, so be aware of its popularity! They have recently enlarged the parking area, so that does help. Beach access is via a long set of stairs, not for anyone in a wheelchair, so be aware. Views are breathtaking!! Another stop to have your camera with you and ready to go. Restrooms are also available, but only in the parking area.

Stunning

By Christy W |

So beautiful! Make sure to get there right before low tide as the best tidepools (low rocks by the ocean on the left leaving the trail) get covered quickly. The beautiful creatures in the tidepools were so interesting. Definitely a must see! Kids enjoyed climbing on the big rocks by the island rock. Super fun for everyone.

Beautiful scenic beach

By Jonce' S |

We are very used to white sandy beaches so this was a treat. well worth the drive and so enjoyed our time there. Clean and nicely maintained - I'd highly recommend this for families.

Beautiful Beach!

By travelingbandacoot |

Beautiful beach in Olympic National Park! Highly recommend! A lot of beautiful logs and Sea stacks! Kids absolutely loved it! Definitely go at low tide!

Such a hidden Beauty

By coosbaygal |

Just a few steps away through a pathway lies the beautiful Ruby Beach. The stacks are so awesome. It would be best to come at low tide so that you can walk around. This is a good little trail that is super easy. Some with disabilities may have a difficult time but it’s worth the extra help to get there. However there is a great lookout if you can’t make the walk down. It can be very windy here.

amazing sea life in tide pools

By neetz |

We visited ruby beach on July 2 Nd, it was a great experience. The beach was easily accessible and we hit the beach at low tide and was very thrilled to see that amazing
Green Animoni , many sea stars and countless mussels.we loved the beach walk even though it was not chilly.

Climbing on drift wood!

By SeesTheWorld5 |

Making houses with drift wood. Throwing rocks! Making cairns. Enjoying the wind.

Our kids and we both loved this place. We had to tear them away to leave!

There are very primitive restrooms and trash bins in the parking lot. There is an inclined trail down to the beach with a few steps.

In October we didn’t attempt to swim. And when we were there the waves were fairly fierce so we didn’t really wade in either.

It’s a very lovely place.

Like another world

By WJ2011 |

This is definitely worth the trip and hike down to the beach. Its beautiful and wild. We were there in low season, and I imagine it gets very crowded during the summer. If you love the Pacific Northwest, this will feel like home!

stunningly beautiful

By bobbie5 |

Ruby Beach was the only part of the Olympic Park coastline I got to see on a recent trip, and loved its huge rock formations and the sound of the waves lapping the shore - stunningly beautiful.

So beautiful

By Candace R |

Beautiful beach. We walked up and down, stood on the beach wood and rocks. It’s romantic for couples, great for people with kids or if you’re just a beach lover.

Classic pacific coast vista

By dawgdok |

Beautiful sea stack beach just a short hike from the parking lot off of 101. Came on partially cloudy mid October day with only a handful of other people on the beach. We even came upon a humpback whale carcass that washed up, fascinating creature. My words don’t do the place justice, check out some of the pics and stop here if in the area.

A majestic beauty

By Tom D |

Ruby beach is truly a majestic beauty in the pacific coast. When you see the driftwood ii is worthy of 100s of pictures. The rock formation on the shores are incredible.

Do not miss

By GingerBiggi |

Don't miss this beach. It's one of a kind. It's a small path down the parking lot and you are already on the beach.

Nice tidal pools

By preas1986 |

Plan your hike according to the tides. It’s a great hike. Wear water proof foot wear. We saw sea stars, not a lot,but some, sea urchins. Loved the pelican fly overs.

Great beach to watch the Sunset!

By Kris H |

We loved this beach and went back to watch the sunset. Beautiful views and a short walk down to the beach.

Beautiful and Peaceful

By Anna L |

We got here pretty early in the morning and unfortunately, the tide was on its way in, so we weren't able to fully experience the rock pools. That being said, this is a beautiful beach with lots of rock formations. It is quite pebbly and there is tonnes of driftwood around which adds to the beauty. It was too cold -and too early - to swim, but we enjoyed our short walk down to the beach and the time we spent there.
There is parking but it's a relatively small lot. So I could see it getting quite full later in the day.

I would recommend visiting here if you have time.

Eerie rock formations!

By Jane S |

Birdie at the ranger station told us that many scenes from Twilight were filmed at Ruby Beach, and I can see why. The many rock formations erupting from the beach and the water would be perfect for the creepy atmosphere needed in that film. The fact that the smoke and fog covered much of the landscape just added to the ethereal feeling.

Pretty beach but crowded

By ARB1615 |

We were lucky to find a parking spot at Ruby Beach. Pretty beach with very interesting large rocks in the water. There were tons of people here so it was hard to relax and enjoy ourselves. Regardless of the crowds, it is a very pretty beach.

Beautiful place

By Carlos T |

This is the first time visiting this place and the overall experience was excellent! The view was amazing and worth the visit and drive! During a our visit it was overcast and the temperature was in the low 60's. Easy walk to the beach. The drive is approximately two hours from Olympia.

So Peaceful

By Aubin |

It's worth a visit on a beautiful sunny day!Visit on a weekday and enjoy more solitude on Ruby Beach where the views are stunning any time of day!

Gorgeous Pacific Northwest Beach

By gilber20 |

My wife, two sons (14 yrs. 12 yrs), and I drove all the way from Port Angeles, WA to visit Ruby Beach. It's a delightful spot that is well worth your time. Be sure to bring a sweatshirt or light jacket as Pacific Coast beaches can feel chilly on a windy day. The rock formations here are just gorgeous - if you're lucky to arrive on a sunny afternoon, try to visit the beach as the sun is descending!

If you have very young children, they can wade in the shallow tide pools which are a safe distance away from the surf. The ocean water is brutally cold - but you may see a starfish or sea anemone if you look hard. Our visit was pretty short (45 minutes), and I would encourage you to visit another public beach (less crowded) that is just a few miles south on Highway 101 (away from the Hoh Rain Forest) if you have time. That will give you a different experience with the Pacific Ocean and fewer crowds!

I will say that Olympic National Park is spectacular. In my opinion, the 3 "must-see" things in the park would be Hurricane Ridge (close to Port Angeles, WA), Lake Crescent (for hiking canoeing, or just a place to take a break from driving), and Ruby Beach. If your time is limited, I would skip the Hoh Rain Forest, which was OK, but not really worth the additional driving time (30 minutes) there.

Loving Ruby Beach

By Shelly |

Even with the drizzly weather, the beach was absolutely beautiful. We loved walking down the beach and being amazed by the stacks and the huge pieces of driftwood. The driftwood did make it a little complicated to get to the water, but it was a nice brain challenge to figure out the puzzle without having to climb over the pieces.

Great at low tide

By carrieul |

Short walk down from parking lot to a beach with lots of wonderful things to see like rock outcroppings, incredible waves rolling in set after set, etc.

Among the best beaches in the Olympic National Park

By Taughboyne |

A National Park Service ranger told me that Ruby Beach marks the end of the wild Washington coast; further south the coast more closely resembles that of central California - still beautiful but comparatively tamer. You can see this beach from the highway 101 that circles the National Park, something that is not possible for the even more spectacular shores that lie further north, most of which require lengthy detours out and back. There is a short but fairly steep descent from the parking lot and it would be useful to have a stout walking stick to aid in balancing one's way across the tree trunks that are strewn across the back beach. Once on the beach itself the going is easy and access to the rocks is direct. We had already OD'd on other beaches in the park and spent only a half hour here but it is clearly possibly to take a lot more time and not be bored.

Rugged beauty defies description

By JD C |

We had hiked the Marymere Falls, Hall of Mosses, and Spruce trails earlier in the day. We were a bit tired from the hikes but, as an afterthought, we decided to drive to Ruby Beach before returning to Port Angeles, our home base for the Olympic Peninsula trip. OMG! As spoiled and as jaded as we coastal Californians were, we could not believe our eyes when we witnessed and experienced the majesty of this pristine and rugged beach. Ruby Beach is not like any other beach we've experienced! The sea stacks and crashing waves were mesmerizing and we were overwhelmed with a sense of joy, serenity, and happiness. What a way to have ended our day. This beach is really a must-see-to-believe place. Spectacular! Breath-taking! Wondrous!

Moody and beautiful

By Stephen S |

Went here mid afternoon on a Thursday and it was not very busy. Lots of low clouds gave it an extra ambience. Easy to access and you can make this a short stop or a long one depending on your time constraints.

Very nice

By Moveco |

Via a small walking route you arrive at a nice viewpoint to see Ruby beach. You can then walk further down to get to the beach.

You have free access to this part of Olympic NP

Sunny or foggy it’s gorgeous

By GinaHx |

Heat wave broke when we hit Ruby Beach. Dropped to 69 degrees at 4:30. Fog rolled in but honestly made it still look very beautiful. We had gorgeous orange sunsets the nights before at Rialto Beach.

A spectacular example of Washington coastline

By Brian E |

Based on the Park ranger's recommendation, we were sure to pull over to see Ruby Beach. Even with it being post-Labor Day, the parking lot was full, as was the beach. We spent only a few moments there as, in our experience, there was lots of other coastline in Washington equally as spectacular and totally devoid of crowding.

Rugged and beautiful

By CColumbus |

Highlight of my Pacific trip and a short walk from the parking area 👍 The coastline is stunning and not to crowded.

Best beach on the 101

By SPKKPS2017 |

The last two weeks we spent driving the 101 around Olympic National Park. We visited many beaches and this by far was the most beautiful. The jagged rocks, soft sand and the whitewashed driftwood made it top in our books. I highly recommend coming here you will not be disappointed. When the tide goes out you can see quite a few under the sea creatures, such as starfish, hermit crabs, anemones and snails. It was foggy when we went and it made for some exceptional photos. The parking is quite limited so go early. We arrived on a Tuesday around 11 am and could only find parking along the entrance road and when we left a couple hours later the roadside parking was full.

Hands down one of the best beaches in the world

By j22445 |

Photos don't do this place justice. You have to see it for yourself. We spent quite a while admiring the marine life in the tide pools. Only down side was the temperature. It can be pretty chilly, but still well worth it.

Beautiful Beach...lots of BIG logs to see

By Sue E |

We were driving to Kalaloch Lodge & stopped at Ruby Beach which was just up the road from the lodge. Lots of people visiting this beach since it is so beautiful...from above & down on the beach. There is a good hike down to the beach & then back up.

Wonderful Experience

By Tanner L |

VERY BEAUTIFUL. The water is super chilly, but it is super beautiful. It is a must see when traveling to Washington.

Stony Shore is a thing of beauty

By Five Minute Travel Guide |

Even if the weather isn't perfect, a visit here is. Walk down to the beach and climb over the fallen trees and the millions of perfectly rounded and colorful stones. Some rocky features on the shore offer great photo ops. This beach and Rialto Beach are the best in the area. You'll want to walk along shore and explore for at least 30 minutes even in the rain.

Beautiful

By BarryandJackie |

It is a short walk to the beach, which is full of driftwood logs, along with lovely ocean views and a sandy beach. You do have to pick your way around the driftwood in some places. Interesting rock formations

Nice beach with interesting rock formations

By MattIowa |

We enjoyed about an hour at this beach. It's pretty spacious and has some nice rock formations which give it that Pacific Northwest feel. We did not check out any other beaches in this area and were satisfied with our stop at Ruby Beach!

Family Washington Vacation

By Ashley B |

There is a large parking lot with bathroom availability. There is a trail that leads down to the beach. The trail is steep going down, once there on the beach there are a lot logs, but you do not have to climb over them you can make a path through them. The view is amazing. It is a little difficult walking on the loose rocks, just be careful. If you want to go farther down the beach you will have to cross the river. Towards the right side there is a fallen tree, get a large stick to help you walk across the log. Farther down the beach, you can go to the very large sea stack and go see some sea anemones.

Must visit site in clear night

By Changseb Kim |

You can see really bright and clear milky way and stars in your naked eyes. Check tide and moon phase when you visit.

A stunning beach

Visited as park of stay in National Park. The beach is stunning although water is very cold and not suitable for swimming

A unique beach to visit

By Radhakrishnan R |

This place is about 40 minutes from Forks, WA. It is unique and worth the time spent there. There is ample parking in this place.

Pretty beach.

By siouxsy |

Very accessible with a nice parking lot. I would imagine it would be prettier during sunset or at low tides to see the amazing creatures in the tide pools. Regardless a very beautiful beach.

Stunning

By SBCindy |

It was foggy the day we stopped but still a gorgeous beach and well worth the stop. The beach has beautiful driftwood and black sand and rocky. It’s a little difficult getting onto the beach over the driftwood if you have mobility issues but they do have a nice overlook to enjoy the views.

Neat Viewpoint, Good view of Destruction Island Lighthouse!

By Mike Rizzitiello |

Great viewpoint of the Pacific Ocean and the Destruction Island Lighthouse. Hard to get right up to the ocean because of the big logs on the beach.

Beautiful Rocky Beach

By Alison I |

We actually had my friend's wedding on this beach and it was beautiful. Lots of great scenery for pictures. Walk down is fairly easy, we did it floor length bridesmaid dresses, and I'm also 8 months pregnant.

Stunning beach that's easy to access

By Shelby P |

Everybody who is driving down Hwy 101 should pull over to see this beach. It's just a short walk down from the parking lot and you can spend 20 minutes here, or all day.

Nice haystack beach

By mooresy2 |

It's a very easy walk down to the beach..make sure it is low tide or the surf crashes right up and there are lots of driftwood and logs crashing up too so can be very dangerous but low tide can be wonderful to explore the tide pools and the haystacks

Scenic beach

By Sérgio Backes |

Worth the trip from Forks (or elsewhere). My suggestion is that you go for a visit/ hike in the Hoh Rainforest and leave some spare time at the end of the day to go watch the sunset at this beach.

Beautiful coastal section

By LaVa Touristik |

Beautiful stretch of coastline just 20 miles from the Visitor Center of Hoh Rainforest and also not far from the village of Forks (27 miles) - a few steps down from the parking lot, which is off US 102, and you have already collected some good photo motifs with the rock formations as a mood for "La Push".

Honeymoon yrip

By Brenda W |

Loved Ruby Beach. We got there and the weather was great and the beach was the greatest place ever. Driftwood all over, small river, rocks, killer views. Everything you can want for beachcombing. Lots of photos...great place.

Spectacular beach.

By Mike D |

It was foggy and smoky giving a surreal feeling to the rock formations along the coast. The views along the Olympic Peninsula were outstanding.

Such a beautiful beach! A must see in Olympic

By Cara P |

We came to this beach as part of our trip to Olympic national park. It is an amazing beach and a must visit in Olympic. I would recommend visiting this stop for sure. The parking lot is small though, so go early. The mistiness of the beach only added to its beauty.

Tidepooling is now favourite family activity

By melnak2015 |

Sharing tide pooling with my two children 13, 10 and family friend 12years old was fantastic . Beautiful beach with not too many visitors pristine. Was a holiday memory to last a lifetime

For us the most beautifull beach we have ever seen !

By traveladdict3500 |

We were here in June 2016 and loved Ruby Beach so we went to visit it again in June 2018 and loved it even more. There is a large parking lot near the beach and you have to walk down to the beach. We were wearing watershoes so we wouldn't hurt our feet on the forest soil before we reached the beach. The beach had a spooky fog over it which made it even more attractive. The combination of the sand, the rocks in the sea and on the beach, the dead trees that washed to the shore, etc : it all makes Ruby Beach unforgettable. This time the tide was lower than when we visited in 2016 so we could see red seastars, green sea anemones and hermit crabs.

Spectacular Beach

By Sue P |

Not your ordinary beach. It was a long drive from Pacific Beach, but well worth it. It is well marked, just north of Beach #4. Good sized parking lot with restrooms. Fairly steep path down to the beach and back up. Can have some muddy stretches. Once there, enjoy the amazing round stones leading to the beach and the amazing rock "stacks" offshore. Even some large trees/driftwood washed up ashore. Not crowded in October, still beautiful.

Family vacation

By samchari |

Beautiful beach with rocks, trees, tide pools and sea life. Very nice shaded hike to beach from parking lot.
This one had it all.. including a mini hole in wall

Beautiful beach

By LaDonna S |

Beautiful beach near Hoh Rainforest area of Olympic National Park. Scenic, accessible, not too crowded. Easy drive to the beaches and great pacific coast scenery.

Beautiful compact, and easily accessed

By Karen M |

Ruby is, as its name suggests, a gem of a beach. Small and contained, it has tide pools at low tide, but even if you can't see it at low tide, it is beautiful none the less. You can quickly get there from the parking lot, and take tons of amazing photos.

Unexpected.

By paula t |

We drove there yesterday. It had been on my list for many years. I had no idea how really beautiful this area is. It was so much more beautiful than I had expected.
Good parking.
We drove north from Ocean Shores. It was 2 hrs give or take. It is just north of Klaloch and the roads are well marked.
Well worth the drive.

Ruby Beach was our favorite Olympic National Park beach! Stunning and easy to access!

By Carolyn G |

We went not once but twice to Ruby Beach during our recent ONP vacation. The beach is a short hike down from the parking lot on a very well maintained trail. Once you get down to the beach, you have to hop over a couple of driftwood trees to get onto the beach (you can sit and scoot over if you're not one for hopping!) You can explore the beach to sea stacks in either direction. I felt like this beach was the easiest to walk on for anyone with mobility issues - the rocks were well packed as was the sand below the rocks. At low tide, you can look around the rocky sea stacks for tidal pools containing starfish and anemone. Such a beautiful place!

So peaceful

By Steven J |

This beach is much more crowded because you can just drive to short trail but it is still so peaceful. We walked up and down the beach for about an hour. It was August and the temp was 65 with a great breeze.

We hit this beach every time we come up this way. You should also.

Vistas beyond compare! (Well almost)

By corneliaj649 |

Great walking experience. Exciting difference for these Floridians! Take care around the piles of driftwood but they make fantastic photo backgrounds.

Beautiful

By Garforthsoulmates |

After reading guide books you always wonder if it can really be true! Well we didn’t see any ruby stones just brown or grey but this is a special place. Sea stacks, fallen logs, expanse of sand and pebbles all add to the beauty and atmosphere. If you visit one beach on your trip to the peninsula then make it this one!

Beautiful beaxh

By TiffanyR |

We went at low tide to do some tidepooling and were not disappointed. The kids loved splashing in the waves on the warm August day we were there. Truly a national treasure.

Beautiful place!

By Julia t |

Sadly when we went there was a lot of mist and visibility was not brilliant, we still managed to get some great photos and the setting is just amazing. To see how huge logs can just be thrown onto the beach is unreal. Even on a misty day this place is truly amazing!

The Perfect Beach

By Brandy M |

This beach was everything I had hoped for: stunning views of a pebble beach with overhanging cliffs, picturesque sea stacks, driftwood and quiet surf. It was about a 2 1/2 hour drive from Olympia, but well worth it! One of my all-time favorite places along this coast.

We had no problem finding parking, the walk down to the beach wasn't too bad. The rock formations in the water are very interesting, making this beach a fun one to walk. We must have gone a mile before we turned back.

GREAT views

By Wacky_Weekend |

Awesome views. Great place to experience the Washington coast. The beach is rocky and not like a Florida beach. Wish we could have stayed for sunset.

A Stunning Setting for a Wonderful Stroll on the Beach

By dunadan |

On a day-trip north from Seabrook along 101, we spent a lovely hour or so strolling the gorgeous Ruby Beach. There were a fair number of people on the beach, but not so many as to make social distancing difficult. When we set off walking south, we encountered few people.

Along the way, we found a few small tide pools and marveled at the hundreds of anemones and other invertebrates. Further south, there are several small sea caves that make for interesting photo opps. Although the beach near the mouth of the river was pretty clean, we imagine that further south or north there are opportunities to do some productive beach combing and agate/seaglass hunting.

Best Beach

By cohoman |

I'd say this is the best beach of all the costal beaches in the area. Nice rock formations for photo ops. The beach is sandy, not so rocky.  There's easy access to the beach. Large parking lot, with vault toilets.

Beauty

We decided to go last minute to Forks WA... It was such a beautiful and tranquil place. Definitely wear water proof shoes or bring a dry pair.. We have a daughter that’s in a wheelchair and it was a little difficult to maneuver, but we managed..

Great Place

By Matthew C |

This beach has the quintessential Pacific Northwest look. Smooth pebble beach, cool evergreen smelling air, waves on the ocean, and sea stacks out in the ocean. It’s a little out of the way from the rest of the national park, but still a must see!

Beautiful beach for the whole family! ❤️❤️❤️❤️Well worth the drive. Weather is perfect around August.

Stunning November Visit

By ALG1603 |

We had this entire Beach to ourselves on a Saturday afternoon in early November. It is stunning, even on a gray overcast day. There are pit toilets up at the parking lot, a path to meander down to the water, and a man made path tight at the beginning through the many logs on the beach. We climbed on logs for quite awhile and watched some giant logs being thrown around in the water. Bring your camera, the views are spectacular.

Wonderful beach, lots to see

By Tansy2015 |

We did not see the red in the sand, it was very cloudy, and there was a storm front coming in. The beach is very rocky at the beginning, and then it gets finer and finer as it goes toward the water. There is a large amount of debris at the beginning of the beach that you have to navigate through. Don’t forget to go through the little archway, rock, and over, the plank bridge to cross the stream that is empty into the ocean. The path to the beach is a short slightly steep decent.

Fantastic Beach

By Crystaly303 |

Ruby Beach was a fantastic stop in Olympic National Park. It’s a great area to stop for lunch or relax. The beach was about a five minute walk from the parking lot. We didn’t have any problems finding parking on a Saturday the first weekend in October. We wish we could’ve spent more time.

Stunning beach

By Hev |

It looks like you are on another planet. It's a beautiful beach with lots of tide pools where you can watch starfish and other sea creatures. It's stunning during sunset hours.

One of our favorite places

This was our second visit and it did not disappoint! Gorgeous beach with tons of space to spread out from other people. Beautiful scenery.

Awesome

Just loved, loved walking along the beach. Great scenery, sea-stacks, giant bleached tree trunks, crashing waves. Would be fantastic at sunset, or rise.

A mazing beach !

By Ofer M |

The beach is characterized by an amazing world that is revealed at tides. A short walk in bare feet on the beach is very fun. It is necessary to check when the low tide to see the special beauty on the beach.

Worth the trip

By ida_travels |

Soooo beautiful. Even when it rained and was foggy it was so peaceful. Highly recommend going. It was a low tide so we could walk around the beach for miles.

Such a beautiful beach

By Melissa C |

The rocks, driftwood and sounds of the waves make this beach such a beautiful one to visit. Truly a raw and natural northwest beach.

Quiet Beach if you Go Early in the Morning

By PandaHouston |

We came around 9:30 am on Thursday 7/29 as we were driving from Astoria Oregon to Port Angeles. Since it was early in the morning, we had no issues finding parking and it was quiet when we first got there. However, when we left an hour later, the parking lot was getting full so if you don't want to have issues with parking, definitely get there early.

There is a trail down to the beach. Once at the beach, we walked to see the sea stacks and there was plenty of driftwood.

Ruby Beach belongs to Olympic NP but we did not have to show our park pass nor did I see any way to pay the park fees.

Stunning beach !

By Tricia A |

Must stop ! Gorgeous rocky beach area with huge driftwood pieces....just a beautiful place for a picnic and to enjoy the view and a beach walk !

Just a perfect morning beach stop ...wish we had brought lunch

By tuscolaman |

We were on our day outing to Olympic National Park and Ruby Beach was highly recommended. We checked when the tides would be out and in, prerfering to go when the tides were out as much as possible. This meant we would visit the beach in the morning on our way up the coast. There is a nice parking lot above and a trail down to the beach that cuts thru the washed up lumber on the shore. Once down to the beach there are several islands close to shore and one in particular that was quite large. With the tide down we could wade to most all of them. Quite fun and beautiful.

Wonderful tidal pools

By talkinghorse55 |

My wife and I joined a ranger-led hike to the Ruby Beach tidal pools at 7 AM during low tide (we cannot recommend enough the ranger programs in the National Parks (photo 1). Sure, you can look at the same terrain without a ranger, but then it’s not much better than looking at a postcard; with a ranger, you get information and stories that are harder to come by!). Anyway, Ranger Jeff told interesting stories about the logging industry and elks teeth and the fight to preserve the National Park (wanna know the connection? Join a ranger hike!). Ruby Beach had wonderful tidal pools, covered with an assortment of barnacles, mussels, sea stars, and anemones (photo 2). Highly recommended.

Must do coast stop

By Marcia S |

Easy trail down to the giant rock and log covered beach. Winter visits include powerful wave action.

Short walk to beautiful beach!

By Liz W |

Such a beautiful beach- perfect for rock throwing or just sitting and enjoying the ocean majesty! Easy access with a bit of climbing over beach logs. Watch the tide table and avoid at high tide!

Breathtaking beach

By lisa w |

Breath taking views , moderate hike on the beach .Hiked with our family of 8 , kids enjoyed climbing on rocks , skipping stones and looking for sea life .

Nice Beach!

By NatureBell |

Pacific Northwest beach with nice views and flat walking when the tide is out. Small cutout caves to explore if you walk south on the beach. The sea stacks are dramatic. Bring the camera and go early or late in the day. This is a popular beach with a smallish parking lot and you will find cars lined up along both sides of the entrance road out to Hwy 101. There are pit toilets at the parking lot but the doors didn't close the day we were there. All of that aside, still a fun and beautiful experience.

Rainy Day

By Christina B |

We drove over hoping the rain & mist would clear. Unfortunately it still sprinkled the whole time. Can’t control nature. Glad we went.

beautiful beach

By Louis R |

a beach that has something for everyone. The beach has small stones, medium and then sand to walk on. Plenty of driftwood lies on the beach. Several sea stacks can be seen at both low and high tides.

Stunning Beach and Rock Formations

By April |

Ruby Beach is one of the prettiest beaches on the West Coast. There's plenty of parking and you follow a walk path from the parking lot to the beach. Go at low tide if you can time just right. Several huge rock formations that are stunningly beautiful. At low tide you can explore in the tide pools for sea creatures. The beach is covered with drift wood that several visitors gather to make small structures that are fun to play around. Millions of smooth rocks are everywhere. Visitors like to make cairn statues that are on display to enjoy and photograph. It was a bit overcast when we arrived but it cleared while we were exploring. Worth the stop.

Lots of Pebbles on this Beach

By LLiberty |

This was my first experience going to a "pebble" beach. The views were amazing! Lots of large rock formations to photograph or to climb. The beach area was filled with large drift wood trees. And if you examine the various stones/pebbles making up the beach there are so many varieties or rock to see. I was surprised this beach did not have sand but then again... I am from Texas and our beaches are sandy. You definitely need shoes to walk around Ruby Beach but the trail down was easy to follow and to traverse. The water was cold but I did see some folks splashing around in the small ponds/puddles away from the surf. Lots of places on the driftwood to sit and watch the surf or just enjoy the beach. The parking lot is small but there was quite a bit of parking along the rode into the beach. And there is a restroom in the lot at the trailhead to the beach.

Green sea anemones!

By camox |

Ask the rangers for a tide chart and go at low tide. The sea stacks are the perfect housing place for sea creatures

Best beach for a family beach day!

By yellowdaisyfairy |

Ruby beach is beautiful! This beach is the best one for a family beach day. There is an area where the water is pooled up right on the beach that everyone was floating on tubes in and was a safe place away from the waves for kids to play in. Beautiful sea stacks. Small tide pools. Tons of little shelters and teepees that people had made out of the driftwood for fun. Not sure if it’s actually allowed but quite a few people had beach fires going. Really a fun beach.

Sensational landscape photo opportunity

By M. J. Leake |

This iconic landscape photo location is phenomenal to gaze upon the beauty before you.
I took the photos the day before the smoke from the western fires in 2020 settled in on the coast.

Stunning

By slmillerNyc |

Beautiful beach and well worth the drive! The huge rock outcrops, the bleached logs scattering the shore, the surf - it's all great. Even saw a seal.

Sunset at Ruby Beach

By Diane D |

We were lucky to catch the beach at sunset on a partly sunny day. It was absolutely magnificent! It is a very easy walk down to the beach.

Magical

By Betty N |

Not to be missed.. it is all of the wonders of the pacific coast: Surf, haystacks, beach with huge logs (BE CAREFUL)

Raw beauty

By Kevin W |

My girlfriend and I made the trip to Ruby Beach late July. We hesitated to make the drive up as we had already covered some miles up the coast of Oregon and Washington. We were so glad we did! This beach was amazingly beautiful. Mother Nature at its finest! Raw beauty! There were a few people on the beach near the bottom of the trail leading there. But, you can easily walk away from everyone and have this gorgeous place all to yourself. This place isn’t very close to much of anything, but that’s what makes so great. Do yourself Justice - make the trip.

Never Disappoints

By Bill K |

This is such a great beach. There is a little something for everyone. There are breathtaking sea stacks, tide pools teeming with sea creatures after higher tides, a relatively safe surf for kids to frolic in, and a spacious beach with room for the large crowds that come to this site.

Don’t miss the beautiful walk to Ruby Beach!

By nancy s |

September was my second time to Ruby Beach. I will come back as often as I am able. We stayed at Kalaloch cabins.

Superlative Sea Stacks

By Gryfudd |

I would give it more stars if I could. This is probably the most popular beach on the Olympic Peninsula and with good reason. The parking lot is large (at milepost 164.7) and there are vault toilets. A descending path (a little steep in places but mostly gentle) leads down to the cove beach along a tidal creek. Kudos to the park staff which has sawed a path through the drift logs so you don’t have to climb over them to get to the main beach. I’ve never seen so many sea stacks as here - all sizes and craggy profiles. Some are gigantic and some smaller ones which range along off the coast. The biggest one at the far end of the beach looks more like an island with trees growing on top. Most of the beach is sand but you will cross a cobbled beach too. If you want to get to the end of the beach take off your shoes and wade through the shallow lapping waves or cross the tidal creek. You can spend several hours here — take a picnic, a book, a blanket for napping. You can find shade in some of the sea stacks. There are just a few tidal pools here so you won’t see as much marine life as at other beaches. We saw a few green anemones and plenty of barnacle-like creatures. Just make sure you get back to the cove beach before the tide starts coming in too much or you may be cut off, unless you’re willing to get really wet in the tidal creek - but you probably won’t be able to do that at high tide.

What a view!!

By 83lovetotravel |

Beautiful views and must see scenery. Feels like you are on a movie set. Did not get to see the low tide as we wanted to see the area around sunset. Wear comfortable shoes as a ton of debris is washed ashore. Bring food for picnic and fun. Water is super cold but walking on the beach is super fun

Scenic beach

By christine l |

Scenic rocky beach at the bottom of a long steep access. The access and the beachhead are covered in logs which can be a hazard.

Very foggy

By BillyRedMadison_WI |

We visited Ruby Beach early on Aug 22nd and unfortunately couldn’t see much due to wildfire smoke and the early morning fog. However we saw a beached whale and what looked like a small Great White Shark washed up on shore

And to your left Ruby Beach...

By Elvis1983 |

My daughter and I were determined to see all we could of the great north west coast during our 4 day vacation in WA state. Our “home base” was in a cute little cabin on Puget Sound, wonderful place & people. So as we are driving through Olympic Park on our way to Hoh Rainforest, like a bat out of you know where. We’re zooming along singing to old ‘70’s & ‘80’s music making our way to Hoh as fast as we can before it gets dark. All of a suddden daughter shouts out, “That was Ruby Beach! We gotta turn around!” I’m like “It’s just a beach, we don’t have time.” Long story short, that was the best “semi legal” U turn we ever made.
It was like out of a movie. Words can’t describe the ginormous sun bleached trees that were washed up. We are from South Texas, gulf coast 72 degree water temp year round. I dipped my toe into the surf at Ruby Beach & it felt like ice water! That was a new experience for me. It wasn’t just cool it was down right cold. Words can’t describe the sights & sounds of this magnificent place. Again west proper footgear because you will have to navigate some huge washed up tree debris. The sand was like nothing I’ve seen before & the rocks smooth like a Ruby. I haven’t even mentioned the sun sets...

Awesome Beach Fun with shoes. )

By Cdbiam |

A short downhill hike to the water where you could beach-comb , explore the shore line, view the sea stacks or sit on the driftwood and absorb the wonder of where you are. The views were beautiful and opportunities to walk the shoreline were numerous. The beach at the tide level that we were there was all rocks- tender feet beware. :)

Breathtaking Views

By StacieA915 |

On our excursion around Olympic National Park, we were suggested to stop at this beach and oh, are we glad we did. We had a perfect day, not a cloud in the sky and it was absolutely beautiful. We were there on a Wednesday and there was hardly anyone on the beach, and it's very large. There is a lot of driftwood around and rock formations that were so interesting. Words can't describe the beauty.

A nice day trip to Ruby Beach

By JBSurfs |

This place is absolutely beautiful. I would have to say that it is the most beautiful beach in Washington State. Well worth the drive, which was about 3 hours, 15 minutes from Seattle. When we arrived, the weather was very rainy, then the clouds parted, giving way to plentiful sunshine. Either way, it was a beautiful spot. In addition to the numerous beautiful rock formations, there were lots of tidal pools, driftwood, and lots of rocks pounded by the surf into a smooth, flat oval and round shape. There is a good deal of red rock there, likely inspiring the name Ruby Beach.

One of our favorite locations in Olympic NP

By fsdukejr |

One of the most interesting and exciting beaches in the park. Crashing waves, sea stacks. loads of beach pebbles, tide pools, sand and lots of drivftwood. Kids have a ball here. Scenery is beautiful on a clear day but can be forbidding and dangerous if the weather is bad.

Wow! Bring your camera

By Helen H |

Ruby Beach is probably the most photogenic beach in Washington. Gorgeous rock islands, tide pools, drift logs, ets. Don’t miss it.

Unbelievable Experience

By Debbie M |

The beach and the rocky coastline is amazing. Its wilderness at it best. We were there at low tide and saw beautiful anemones, sea urchins and star fish were abundant. Be sure and check the tides

Beach Not to be missed

By jkweebs |

This is one of the most beautiful places in Olympic National Park. A nice little walk down to the beach not too long but can be a little taxing for some coming back up. We walked the beach for about an hour and a half early in the morning. By the time we were leaving so many people were coming onto the beach and into the parking lot. If you really want to enjoy the beauty of this beach go early and avoid the crowds. Either way, this is a must-stop and see in Olympic NP.

Wow! Just Awesome!

By Mike K |

Wow! Just an amazing beach to visit with awesome views! Highly recommended for anyone in the area. The beach was easily accessible and very clean with man different points of view and walking areas.

Worth the short hike to the rocky beach

By Cheryl B |

Beautiful beach lots of drift wood step hill to get down to the beach but worth the short hike . Try to time it to get there at low tide as there are supposed to be good tide pools we missed them but beautiful rocky beach

out for a drive

By 831patriciar |

this beach is amazing, its inside of the olympic national forest. great oceans views. rock formations . pleanty of parking. bathrooms are clean.

One of its kind

By SDR007 |

Famous for rocks and swept away trees on the shoreline. The wilderness coast provides a dynamic seen. Lower tide expose see anemones, see urchins, and see stars on the shoreline. The beach is pet friendly and is a brilliant spot for sunrise and sunset.

Not your average beach!

By janiewall |

What a totally unexpected great place full of people building things with driftwood and washed up logs, piling up the surf flattened rocks and leaving other creative mementos in the sand. Not your average beach! Don’t miss it.

Interesting beach experience

By John G |

Nice beach to visit but I don't think it's worth the 4 hour round trip from Port Angeles. Better off staying in Forks to visit this area and then move on to another area. This beach is a good place to eat a picnic as there are lots of logs to sit on. Actually saw a few younger folks go in the water.

Another fantastic beach on the Washington coast

By Alec D |

The beach's along the coast of Washington (in the Olympic National Park) are consistently beautiful. I love going at low tide so you can explore the tidal pools. Sunsets are spectacular.

Just beautiful!

By saradeer |

We didn't walk to the beach, but did take time to absorb the view of this pristine beach! Just right off the road.

easily accessible beach

By rexhans |

Ruby beach is right off the main road and just a short walk through the trees. there are some drift logs to maneuver around but not difficult. go at low tide and enjoy walking along the black sand exploring tide pools and taking amazing pictures.

Beautiful beach

By cohoman |

Wow, really nice rock formations on the beach. Most of the beach is flat rocks but further out towards the water is sand. It was somewhat foggy when we were there, but that made for better photos. Lots of people and kids there. No permit required for day use. Definitely stop by if you're in the area. Dogs allowed on a leash.

Tide Pooling? Not At High Tide

By MikeB1952 |

On our trip through and around Olympic National Park, we couldn't get enough of the beaches and ocean. So, driving to Quinault, we decided to stop at Ruby Beach. Nice beach, much like Rialto and the others we visited. Even at high tide, it was great to watch the waves come in and the rock formations out in the water. Being from inland (Colorado) we are always mesmerized by the ocean waves. We were surprised at how quickly the tide comes in. It caught us a couple of times (getting our ankles wet) when we were walking on 'safe' sand. Oh, and did I say driftwood? Well I should have. There as on other beaches there are piles and pile of gray driftwood logs. How did they get there? Pretty neat. Good stop.

And we didn't see any sea creatures in the flooded tidepools.

Amazing

By Noelia R |

Beautiful, worth the drive. Lots of drift wood. Take food and water no restaurants around . Weather was good. A must go in low tide.

Unusual stretch of nature

By nevmarch |

The walk down to this beach is a bit steep, and ends with a climb over a few fallen trees. However is it well worth the effort. The unusual rock formations that one can get up close to, and the sea-stacks in the water are dramatic features, vastly more beautiful than pictures depict. The low tidal pools, white sands and thousand bleached white tree trunks make one feel this is an ancient and revered place.

Ruby Beach

By GoVols79 |

We stopped at Ruby Beach while exploring Olympic National Park. There is a large parking lot with a short trail down to the beach. This type of beach is so different than what we are used to on the east coast so we really enjoyed walking around and taking it all in. We probably stayed less than an hour but it was definitely a highlight of the day.

Sunset was a Big Wow

By mooth |

We came here to see the sunset and it was spectacular. All the stacks, little islands and driftwood added to the charm. One of the best sunsets I've seen, even compared to the Caribbean, Grand Canyon and so on. Highly recommended.

Magical

By jensiblair |

Magical, even on a cloudy/hazy day. Didn't make it in time for the low tide, but would love to go back then. Just a short walk down from the parking lot. It's a must stop.

Next land is...Japan?

By Michael M |

This really cool beach has nothing commercial. It's just sand, rocks, water and scattered logs from recent...or maybe years gone by that broke up while traveling to the mill. Little sea critters are there on and around the rocks and are best seen at low tide. My grandsons found them fascinating!

Gorgeous beach!!

By Kevin B |

We stumbled upon this beach while road tripping through Washington and I'm so glad we stopped. The walk down to the beach was very relaxing and the beach is just gorgeous. We arrived near sunset and the view of the sun off the water was just breathtaking. Walking along the beach was very relaxing and we loved visiting Ruby Beach!

Plan to be here for Sunset

By Bernard W |

Ruby Beach is very special any time, but especially before sunset and then at sunset. Short downward path from the parking area leads to lots of drift wood. There is a path to the right on the way down. Don’t take it unless you want to climb a lot. go a few more feet straight a head to the easy beach access.Be careful of tides so you don’t get stranded. Waves are strong and powerful. Beautiful place with great rocks-boulders.

Stunning Scenery

By Laurie S |

This was an amazing beach to visit, with so many tidepools and all the little aquatic creatures in them. One must be careful to not lose one's balance on the driftwood, and to keep in mind that it's a very wild beach.

A very calming, beautiful coastal beach

By TravelingBubba |

No trip to the Olympic peninsula is complete without a visit to Ruby Beach. The rock formations catch the light and make the most beautiful setting.

Beautiful beach.

By 889lum |

Nice beach to walk and view wildlife, but when we were there it was too cool for the water. Large parking lot includes restrooms.

Beutiful, cool with changing tides and tide pool

By Brent R |

Our family had a blast walking the beach, brought back some really cool rocks and driftwood. Would love to see at sunset, but did not have enough time.

Simply the most beautiful beach we have ever visited

By Rami Ziv |

Words could simply not describe the beauty and grace of this beach. The river meets the sea through the rain forest, the logs, it is a perfect place to visit, at any weather

Busy but Gorgeous

By Matt F |

We got there right at low tide. We saw an amazing number of animals in the water (please don't touch people, several sea stars were dead due to people picking them up!!) This was one of the most crowded places we visited, but at 4 we were able to find a spot.

Amazing Beach!

By Jaros J |

Bring your water shoes. This is amazing beach you can walk for what seems to be miles. Walk to the beach can be slippery on a wet day.

Easy to get to, beautiful setting

By SeniorTravelerTF |

Ruby Beach, along with Rialto Beach, is one of the beaches you should make an effort to see in Olympic. Parking is adjacent to the beach so there is no hike, and you can walk on sand for miles. You get the Olympic experience with drift logs and sea stacks, and because it is right on 101 it is a bit easier to get to than Rialto (but that is the only difference, both great). Bring your camera for sunset.

Leave your troubles at home

By Senioronabudget |

The walk is rather steep and not suitable for wheelchairs. be sure towear comfortable walking shoes. Watch for tide.

Recommended by park visitors center in Port Angeles.

By jatoes |

Very busy beach with busy parking area. Hike the path down to the beach. Lots of driftwood and rocks. Nice photo opportunity.

An excellent beach, but not the best

By kdkn0x |

Perhaps it was because it was overcast, but I didn't see any 'ruby' at all. It is a very pretty beach, especially compared to the southern Washington beaches, but it wasn't in my top three. Those are Rialto, Second Beach and Beach 4. These three beaches all have more to offer for exploring...beautiful beach rocks, stunning colossal drift trees and haystacks. Ruby does have a sea cave at the southern end of it and some whale bones, but the tide pools were disappointing.

Awesome

By Fred S |

Although Ruby Beach is remote, it is absolutely worth the drive. This is one of the most beautiful coastal areas on the Olympic Peninsula. It is a photographer's dream at sunset. Not much can compare.

Foggy beach.

By Meander21073333380 |

I am sure that the rocky formations are amazing, however the heavy fog prevented to enjoy the full view. We waited several hours for the fog to lift and were rewarded with a few pictures. The Beach was so crowded it was hard to take a picture, or go to the restroom. Extra Portable Toilets would be great. It is hard to believe that this rich State cannot afford it.

Beautiful!

By Brian0ntheGo |

If you are visiting the Olympic Peninsula, make sure you include a stop at Ruby Beach. After visiting the rainforests and the mountains of the region, you'll appreciate the seaside beauty of this picturesque spot. It is just a short walk down to the beach area from the parking lot, and once on the beach, you'll be busy taking pictures of the amazing rocks that stand out of the ocean, the piles of driftwood, the tidal pools, and the crashing waves. While we were there in the afternoon, sunsets must be amazing on clear days. If you want to picnic, make sure you bring your supplies with you as there are no stores anywhere close by. You'll be glad you visited Ruby Beach!

Pretty beach

By MT1 |

My wife and I visited the beach while staying at a B&B outside of Forks. The beach is just a short drive down the road from the turn off to the Hoh Rain Forest and right off the main road (101). There is a fairly large parking lot and restroom facilities there where the trail goes down to the beach. It is just a short walk down to the beach access points and we had to walk over drift logs to get to the beach. It is certainly a very pretty area and well worth a visit. Nothing like the beaches on the East Coast of the U.S.

Another hidden Gem in Olympic National Park

By BrotherYo |

As you drive through the Rainforest of the Olympic National Park, you will be drawn often to stop and "Hike" a trail. Ruby Beach is one place that you must stop and enjoy. Peaceful, beautiful, a place for the Heart. Love the beach and the waves

Beautiful views, not too long of a hike for young children.

By Sam F |

The North Coast of Washington State is wild, beautiful and fun to explore.

I grew up in Seattle, so this area has been as much my backyard as the North Cascades, Dry Falls and Glacier Peak.

There are tons of trails in this area and it's a great place for a day hike. Nearby State and National Parks make this an easy place to visit while camping on the Coast.

Highly recommended.

It is my advice, unless you are experienced coastal hikers, to come in the summertime during the long, low tides that occur during the daylight hours. The tide can come in quickly in Fall and Winter, making what started as a fun hike into an emergency rescue situation.

Beautiful

By julshopper |

Lovely beach that is an easy walk from the parking lot. Ruby beach is much more accessible than second beach. There is not any drift wood to climb over as they have cut it for an easy path. However, this does make it more crowded than the other beaches.

Beauty of the Northwest

By pjsSeattle |

The beaches of the Washington coastline are not all about warm, white, put your feet in the sand. They are about the rugged, adventurist coastline with huge rocks jetting out of the water and tree lined full of natures beauty. From the walk to the beach, to just sitting on logs washed a shore, Ruby Beach just breathes Relax! This has become one of my favorite places to go.

Wonderful Tide Pools

By April |

Fantastic tide pools! My favorites things in them were neon green sea anemones and different colored starfish. The parking lot can get crowded but the beach is so large that it doesn't feel crowded with people when you walk down. Definitely worth a visit!

Very rocky beach

By Lisa O |

We stopped here while driving the PCH and I wasn't super impressed. It was okay but not as spectacular as I was hoping. There is a huge log jam at the end of the trail that you have to climb over to get to the beach. There are pretty neat rock formations to take pictures of.

Beautiful beach, lots of people

By Scott876 |

We stopped here on our trip to ONP and it was a very beautiful beach. The hike to the beach was easy and there was plenty of parking when we arrived (about pm). There was some driftwood we had to navigate through to get to the beach so plan on a little log climbing. There was a fair number of visitors so if you are looking for privacy, plan on a bit of walk to get away from the crowds or find another beach. The kids loved the sand and the rocks as expected. We will stop here again in the off season to see if the crowds thin out a bit.

Go at low tide!

By Jackie |

We all loved this beach. We made it during low tide and walked out to a sea stack and were just amazed at the life in the tide pools. The walk down and back up from the parking area was so much easier than our trip the day before to second beach. I am so glad we got to explore this beautiful beach!

Fun place to hang out

By Ginny W |

Make sure you check the tide schedule and go at low tide. It's a fun place to explore. It was a beautiful clear day out until we got to the beach and it was foggy. My husbands fishing guide said that the rivers flowing into the ocean are warmer so it creates a fog. Wish it would have been clearer.

Lots of driftwood

By LEHankins |

Large parking area and easy path but you must climb over driftwood to get out onto the beach. Pretty place but loaded with people.

Beautiful rock islands in the ocean and on the beach

By Robert S |

Of the three beaches we stopped at Olympic National Park this was my favorite because more of the rock islands that we could get closer to. It's a very short walk down a little hill to get right down there at the water. You will want to get down there to get a close view. Check out these pictures.

Good sunset but a lot of tourists

By CarolA_WaynePA |

For the serious photographer, the sea stacks add a lot of interest to sea shots. It is worth a visit at sunset even though there are tons of people. It is possible to get photos without people, although I found that they add scale to the stacks. Sunset can be hit or miss but hey, this is nature.

Beautiful spot

Beautiful beach with white logs and pebble stones. Definitely a must if you are in the area. Water was too cold to swim but the scenery is breathtaking.

Loved our visit

We enjoyed our visit to the beach. There is alot of drift wood around so plan to jump over it in some spots. You can walk miles in low tide see barnacles and sea stacks. Its a lovely experience. Wear sturdy shoes and sweatshirt. Its always windy even when its warm. Plan for a low tide visit.

A short walk to the beach. It was foggy and drizzling, the picture we took looks like white and black, but it was still very beautiful!

tranquil scene

This is one beautiful beach that happens to be right next to a forestry border typical of a rainforest. I've never seen anything like this at any other beach. Of course, being in the Pacific, the water is cold (55* in the middle of summer) and there were a few brave people that did venture out into the water. I just rested on a log and listened to the sounds of the waves. It is really worth the visit

Classic Washington Coast Beach!

An absolutely wonderful place to visit. No camping. Just parking and a wide trail down to the beach. Fantastic scenery. Lots of driftwood and small rocks by the millions. Pounding surf.

Crowded but Awesome

We got in early (730am) and the weather cleared out - parking lot was almost empty. By the time we left nearing 10am the lot was packed. Go early. heavily used but still beautiful beach and rock formations. We walked all over and had a great time.

nice hike, pretty views

By kencatron |

Nice, scenic hike that most people will be able to do. It's a relatively short hike, less than 30 minutes, and there's not too much elevation change. The beach itself is very pretty with lots of tide pools to explore. Definitely a not miss trip if you're in the area.

Photo Opportunities

Washed up logs & sea stacks with lots of different shapes make interesting subjects for photos.
Quite a steep slope down to the beach & then you need to clamber over logs to get on the beach itself.

Beautiful beach

We enjoyed Ruby Beach and had a great time walking along the water. My husband tried to revive his stone-skipping skills in the large pool at the back but had no luck. There are lots of great things for photographers here.

Pretty. Chilly. Awesome rock formations.

It’s very chilly on the beach so have layers on. Biggest tip: check for the hours of low tide so that you can go explore more out on the beach. When it is low tide you could explore the various tidepools and walk up closer to the large rocks. We enjoyed our time there exploring

This was a beautiful beach to visit. I loved walking along beach with my family as the sun went down. A little chilly so make sure you dress warm.

A Place for Adventure

By Linda Z |

My 4 year old did not want to leave Ruby Beach. We stopped originally intending to spend just a few minutes on our way to Quinault Rain Forest. Hahahaha. We ended up spending hours here, walking along the beach, finding shells and sea creatures. There are some fantastic tide pools to observe and many rocks to keep kids entertained.

Great Beach walk

We were here in early June so it was quiet and the beach was lovely to walk along and up to the rocks at low tide.

Foggy day for a visit- still beautiful

Weather was not our friend but we did get some interesting pictures. Gorilla rock was impressive. The beach was nice and we saw some tide pools as well.

Beautiful tide pools

Tons of starfish, anemones, and other life. Huge island. Just be aware of tides. They are dangerous no matter what beach you’re on.

Breathtaking Ruby Beach!

By GraceOC76 |

We had the most unbelievable luck with the weather on this trip. I’ve been dying to visit and photograph Ruby Beach at sunset. It was better than I could have ever imagined. We made it back the next day at low tide to explore and it was equally awesome! I LOVE it here!

fun for the whole family

We went beach hopping on our week in ONP and Ruby beach and Second beach are our favorites. So many things to do and see. Family loved it!

This is a great example of the rugged Washington coastline. If your in Olympic NP this is a definitive stop.

Great view for pictures. Was not in the ocean, since its October, it might be a little chilly. Spend about 2 hours walking on the beach

I would highly recommend a drive to anyone wanting to experience ..the beauty of Pacific NW beaches at its best. Ruby Beach has stunning rock formations and large logs on a rocky beach. Great place to visit with your pets .Many happy dogs were seen on the beach

Never seen anywhere like it!

We've only seen the Pacific Ocean once before so to come across Ruby beach on this trip was awesome, fantastic rock formations, wide sandy beach and huge piles of drift wood make a superb backdrop, a must see place if your in the Olympic park.
