Go at sunset

By Kate L |

The view from the top is amazing, I am terried of heights and experience motion sickness and the only time I even felt a sway on the way up was at the two towers. The guides were great and knowledgeable. We went up at sunset, 100% worth the trip.

Must do!

By Carriageforest |

Im afraid of heights and I still loved this. Very peaceful. Surrounded by gorgeous nature. The journey. Appreciating the moment.
Priceless.

Snowy Visit

By Colleen J |

The Tram was closed on Tues & Wed, when I could have gone, but booked Thurs, my last day to go, and the weather didn't really cooperate. We got at least 6 inches of snow in the morning, which made the view pretty bad. Terrence, my tram operator was awesome! By the time we went back, visibility had improved, but the experience was wonderful and the gift shop was wonderful & Ann was fun to talk to!

Sandia to the sky

By mitchell f |

I take every tourist whenever they visit. It's a really nice view with great photo ops. The new restaurant at the top is a big improvement over past attempts and made the trip a lot nicer. I'd plan on lunch.

A worthwhile trip

By l0vemyt0wn |

Purchase your tickets a day or two in advance, online and then plan to wear layers while keeping yourself well hydrated for those few days. The ride up is gorgeous. Our tram director was fantastic. He explained the ecosystems we were traveling over and helped ease the fear that a few passengers seemed to have about the 2.7 mile ride up. At the top, drink more water. There are several trails to choose from. We spent a good amount of time birdwatching on the backside (near the ski lift area.) Western Tanagers are in abundance and are simply gorgeous birds, along with many others. There’s a restaurant, but we didn’t go. We watched a (fellow) East coaster get altitude sickness, unfortunately. He had no water bottle, but we’d seen him on the trails. Plan wisely and it’s a fabulous trip up (and down.) We spent about 3 hours up top, hiking, birdwatching and enjoying the incredible views.

Awesome Views

By colt123 |

My husband and I were visiting Albuquerque and took the tram. It was well worth the money. The views are amazing going up and down, and from the top. Only downer was smoke in the valley from wildfires inhibiting some of the view. The restaurant at the top is also good.

Scenic

By msstokes80 |

I’m afraid of heights, but this was an easy, scenic and beautiful tram ride. The difference from start to finish was gorgeous. During the slow ride up, I did get slightly anxious, but I just focused on the mountains and didn’t look Down.

Beautiful experience

By Furguson |

Beautiful views! A lot of fun for seniors. We spent a half day there going up and enjoying the view and then back down. I would highly recommend!

This is a must do on a clear and sunny day in ABQ

By New Yawker |

You have to take the tram when in ABQ. The views are magnificent and the tram is very stable and a smooth ride.
There’s a nice restaurant on top of the mountain we equally amazing views.

Fanrtachic experience with the. Tramway

By Anita B |

It was a fantastic view and the sun was setting beautifully on the right side and on the left side there was thunder in the sky, all in all beautiful moments.

Not what was expecting

By TerryMO |

Waited an hour to go to the top-there are limited places to sit to enjoy the view unless you are willing to pay inflated prices. For beverages in the bar -starting at $11 and up. Then another long wait -1 hour to come down. Was disappointed in what the top had to offer.

A real downer

By Chambs |

Ditto to all the previous negative reviews. A two-hour wait to board going up, an hour-and-five-minute wait to board for the return. Spoke with a very beleaguered young employee who apologetically explained that management intentionally oversells tickets “because they don’t want to lose” the revenue windfall during Balloon Fiesta. Greed, plain and simple.

Some data: Two tram cars traveling in opposite directions, 45-person capacity each. Loading and unloading time on each end plus the run itself means an absolute maximum of three up bound trips per hour if everything goes smoothly = 135 up bound passengers per hour and the same coming down. There were easily 200 people standing in the serpentine line when we arrived and even more when we finally boarded at 5:30 pm. Do the math yourself.
Plus, the cars are overcrowded and the poor people stuck in the middle see absolutely nothing.

The only thing amazing about our experience was how patient the patrons all were. I felt sorry for the young employees who are the public face of the operation and nothing but disgust for management.

A Great Experience

By Donna L |

This was my second time on the tramway and I loved the views and experience. We were delayed this time so spent some time in the gift shop. Found something I wanted to buy as a gift but the tram was restarted before I could purchase it. By the time I came back down I had forgotten about it. I called in November 2021 and inquired about it and was told they were out but they would contact me when they received more. July 2022 I received the call that they were in so I called and ordered. I've received my order and am so happy with the service - to think they kept my number and item info for 8 months! Fantastic customer service!

A hidden jewel

By Oliver C |

Love the views as we ascended to the peak. The guide was very informative, including where a plane went down so many years ago. Many hang gliders.

Good to do once

By Shay A |

That's very excited to get to ride on the tram that is the second largest in the United States. Unfortunately, I got in the middle because I was one of the last 10 to get on. Could barely see. They were cramming us in to the tram. Once you get up to the top, you definitely have spectacular views but not really an indoor observatory. You could pay to do food and drinks and have good seats but I had dinner reservations. The people were very nice. Did get to see the sunset. Did get to see snow. But there was a lot of pushing and shoving both to get on and getting off. Maybe we should have five less in the tram.

Amazing experience - perfect views, unique, great trails, fantastic restaurant

By Tracy C |

We cane up 5 years ago (also in August) and it was cold, rainy and everything was closed, trails (due to wind) and the restaurant was being remodeled. FF to now - the weather was ideal, the trails were gorgeous, the restaurant was delicious and had the most incredible views. We had plenty of time to hike and then watched storms come in - we learned that the rain we can see from a distance is called a "vega" and seeing them come in with the lightning in the distance was SO cool. Will be back again!!!

Wanted to love it.

By SarahBNiles |

I typically don't believe bad reviews. I give every place a chance. This attraction does have beautiful views, and is worth it if you are willing to wait in line for hours for it. I thought people were exaggerating about the waits, but it is for real. We purchased tickets for the 11am-1pm slot and still had to wait 2 hours to board. If the attraction is that popular they should really limit ticket sales more.
I also assumed the cramming 50 people into the tram was a silly exaggeration in reviews, but that is true too. Being forced into that uncomfortable of a situation is absurd.
There also is just the restaurant at the top. The menu did not look very family friendly, and to pay that much for the tram to see what you can by hiking up is silly. We travel a lot, so maybe I'm spoiled by better attractions like this, but it was a big disappointment.
*One highlight was that the woman working at the top yelled at everyone in such an exaggerated, crazy manor that it kinda lightened the mood as everyone came together laughing at her insanity. I think she might be former military by the way she berated everyone, but it was certainly a treat.

Great trip, food and hiking

By Brandon S |

10-3 restaurant was great. The hike to the cabin was beautiful, a great day (go early in the day to avoid the heaviest crowds)

Must do!

By Leeanna5555 |

knowledgeable staff, great experience! Amazing views, guide provided lots of fun facts, clean and very organized.

Unbelievably Beautiful

By Patricia T |

We had to wait 4 days for the winds to allow the tram to open up, but it was worth the wait. The tram ride is very smooth and steady - and I don't like heights! The views from the top are incredible and the tram "Captains" are wonderful at providing information on what you are seeing on the way up and back down. NOTE: The weather is 20-30 degrees colder at the top of the Tram, so bring a coat! This is an experience you don't want to miss!!

Amazing Views

By njoireading247 |

This was a fill-in at the last minute because we couldn't go to White Sands. Glad we were able to experience this beautiful ride. Purchase your tickets on line and then dress appropriately. It will be cold at the top in comparison to the ground. The views and commentary from the tram were great, although try to get close to a window. Once at the top you can stay as long as you want. There are trails for hiking and places to just soak in the view. Do not plan to eat unless you have a reservation, especially later in the afternoon or evening. Also drink water as the elevation is quite high.

Fun cool beautiful

By Jack |

A very fun and unique experience the ride was very smooth and the conductor was very nice and the views were just breathtaking if I went on a clearer day they said we could see all the way to the Rocky Mountains we hiked 2 miles to the Kiwanis cabin and I could see all the way to where we started and then some 10/10 would go again

Extreme waiting to get off mountain until!

By Laura A |

This was an awful experience! We stood in line for 2 hours waiting to take tram down off mountain. They kept saying it was because they were unloading water for utilities. We had elderly people in our group and didn’t care that it was physically hard for them to wait that long. We didn’t get off mountain until 11pm. I will never recommend this place to anyone. Fill your water after serving your guests!! Don’t lie to us while you’re making us suffer. Very upset about our visit!

Spectacular views

By Pam W |

This was a great way to see a long view of Albuquerque. The tram ride was fun but with Covid concerns I felt there are too many people on ride. Masks were required. At the top we were able to be there for sunset which was beautiful. There is a restaurant which we did not try because it requires reservations. We did go to the bar for drinks while we were waiting for sunset and found the service was very slow and prices were very high, about 15-16 dollars per drink.

Beautiful place to admire the sunset on ABQ

By Benoit |

I went there to admire the sunset on ABQ and it was marvelous, with a view on all mountains around and the illuminated city.

I would advice warm clothing if you are going there in winter through, it was freezing, with strong wind gusts.

Must-do for visiting ABQ!

By Gbb |

I'm so glad I dedicated a morning to taking this tram! It was really fun and unique, and what a view!!!

A Must-Do for Visitors to ABQ

By Makenzie M |

Absolutely breathtaking ride up to the Sandias. The view at the top is an incredible panorama for miles and miles around. The hike was also fun.

Highly recommend

By Sydney M |

This was a must see. What made it even more special was there was snow on top of the mountains and the views were beautiful. Eat at Ten3 restaurant as view is breathtaking.

Breathtaking sunset

By Yomaira Perdomo |

A friend recommended to visit this place, completely without planning. Great decision! Arrived late afternoon and was able to watch thr sunset up at the hill, it was breathtaking. The restaurant on site is also very good, this is a must do experience while in the area.

Not to be Missed!

By Terri C |

We loved our experience at the Sandia Peak Tramway. Actually, the best part is all the things you can do at the top. We did a beautiful hike. We ate in the bar and watched the sunset. The food was good and the server was friendly. The big surprise was that we could see the fireworks from the Balloon Fiesta down below.
The things we did not love were the long wait in line and that we were crammed into the cable car like sardines. But overall, it was a great excursion.

Breathtaking views

By Tammy W |

The ride up and down is the main experience. When you get to the top you have other views too. There was not a lot to do since ski season was not in and the restaurant was closed but still worth the money to do it once.

Breathtaking Views

By Lisamarie L |

The views up the tram are really breathtaking, especially once you get past the first tower and look straight down into the gorge. When you get up to the peak there are some great views and trails.

One caution: I've done a similar tram in other cities and the cars were individual for each family. Here you are packed shoulder to shoulder (about 50 people) in a tram for about 15 minutes each way. Despite masks being ostensibly required, I did not feel it was a safe situation. Thankfully, we were fine, but if you are high risk (or have close contacts with high risk people) I would not recommend this until numbers have stabilized, especially if you aren't vaccinated.

Worth every penny!

By taraship |

Absolutely gorgeous from every angle. It was a little crowded in the tram on the way up and down so, if you get claustrophobic, make sure you are next to the window. Unless, of course, you can't handle heights. Regardless, if you are near the window, you see some amazing terrain on the way up and down. It's just beautiful. Then, at the top, the views are amazing. We also walked the nature trail, which was beautiful. We ate at the restaurant on top, a tourist trap, but the food was delicious and worth the money. We were surprised. I would highly recommend this if you can manage it. It's worth every penny.

To the sky

By Jessica M |

Great experience. Long wait if during balloon festival
Didn’t get to spend much time as it was getting dark. 10300 feet. Did meet fascinating people in line!

Timing wasn't great

By tcurrin |

We booked for arrival between 5 and 8. Arrived around 5:20 and the line was a mile long. By the time we could get on the tram it was dark and you couldn't see anything but the town lights at the top. I wish I had been told that there would be a long line and to arrive way before our designated time. We were offered to apply for another day or refund but we were just visiting so that wasn't an option. Greatly disappointed in the view we got because it was so dark you couldn't see the exciting climb up the mountain.

Fun way to get on to the top - great hike while you’re there!

By brayncandy |

A perfect 1/2 day trip from Santa Fe!
The tram ride was so fun!
Definitely take the 2.5 hours to “hike” to the Kiwanis cabin - totally worth it. It’s not a difficult hike - you can do it in gym shoes. Take plenty of water with you to ensure your getting your oxygen at 10k+ altitude.

Great experience, I would do it again and recommend it to my friends.

By Linda R |

The trip up to the peak was beautiful and the 10 3 restaurant was great. Nice atmosphere, friendly people and staff.

Beautiful views & fascinating area history

By Karen F |

Incredible experience with spectacular views! We were fortunate to see 5 hang gliders take off from the top. The tram experience was enhanced dramatically by our gondola guide, Cowboy Mike. He’s a gifted storyteller who wove in tales of Albuquerque’s ties to Queen Isabella, Tiffany’s, Hilton Hotels, Bill Gates, and President Reagan.

What an experience!

By roark |

I live at sea level. I am deathly afraid of heights. And no, the tramway did nothing to alleviate that fear. The spectacle is so awesome, however, that you take it all in and hope you don't piss yourself at the same time.

SO YOU WANNA RIDE THE TRAM AND EAT AT TEN THOUSAND 300 FEET ....

By travelcatz1 |

To be sure, this is a wonderful ascent on one of America's most stunning peaks, slowly climbing 10,300 feet (hence the name of the restaurant Ten3) to the crest of the Sandia (meaning watermelon) Mountains, offering visitors an 11,000 square mile panoramic view that is nothing short of spectacular. At the top, depending on the time of day, you have a choice or restaurants, one casual (where we ate) and one formal. The formal requires reservations and a dress code. Both restaurants offer about the same meals, yet for the life of me I had to ask the maitre d' of the casual bar/restaurant, why in the world they needed a huge television, a television that depending on your setting, demanded that you view its screen, a total distraction, where I can not believe that anyone would pay for a ticket, ride the tram, toss down some rather hefty bucks for dinner and actually want to sit there and watch television as opposed to conversation with the view of a lifetime.

All of the eats are more than worthwhile, that said, you simply MUST try the tempura local fungi oyster mushrooms ($21) ... while our Bison Burger ($31) with green chile bacon, Tucumcari cheddar cheese and caramelized onions on a house made sesame seed bun as a staggering hit, I went home remembering those shroom, wondering where I'd find them again.

Still, I believe the loss of the big screen television would not be missed by anyone.

Give yourself enougj time to see both sides of the mountain.

By Beth S |

The website is wrong. The tram only runs later when the restaurant is open. When the restaurant is not open, the tram closes at 8 (at least for our trip). The ride was smooth and the people within our tram were friendly. There is a guide who provides some information about the peaks, sights, and the town below. The view is spectacular from the top and I wish we had more time before we had to return for the last tram of the evening. At the peak, you can see both sides of the mountain. This is a winter ski resort and the terrain is steep.

What a view!

By hnre |

What a view.! I am sure that during sun set, this place can get crowded. They say to bring a jacket since it can be 5-10 degrees cooler. At their website, there is a cam, take a look and see what people are wearing and this will give you an idea of should you bring a jacket or not. You can take a one way ride up or down the tram and then hike either up or down the peak. If your going to hike the peak, do wear some good hiking shoes, walking pole and water. The view is really something to experience.

Miserable experience

By Dianne S |

We had tickets from 1:00 to 3:00. When we arrived, the line was so long that we waited over two hours to get on the tram. We found out the ticket times are meaningless. When we finally got to the top, we were informed that due to wind conditions, we had to turn right around and come back down. Another long wait outside, and in very cold conditions we finally got back to where we started. It was truly a miserable experience.

When in Albuquerque you must see this

By David G |

Sandia Tram is a fun trip. The views are spectacular in every direction! We rode up on a somewhat cloudy day but they cleared later in the morning to reveal the wonderful views. We hiked around the top a bit, but my wife was short of breath at the 10,300 foot elevation. Cute little gift shop too. We went early in the morning and were glad we did. As we arrived back at the bottom after our tram ride, there were bus loads of tourists lining up for the ride.

Sandia Tram

By William F |

This was a fun and breathtaking experience. The trip was about 15 minutes both ways. The scenery was beautiful and the ride was pleasant. On the top was a restaurant-it was lunchtime so we ate. Very nice. The staff in all areas were terrific! I would recommend highly.

Worth it for the view

By Jess |

I'm not one for heights but the experience I had on the tram was great! Not at all unpleasant and the view at the end was unreal- definitely made our time in Albuquerque! The walk at the top was also wonderful, something different from my normal.

Make sure to check the trams are running as we were told the week before we went it was shut due to weather conditions.

Great experience, gift shop closes early

By Chico C |

We got there around 7pm to go up the mountain. We quickly ushered into the line for the tram. With them doing this, we didn’t have a chance to stop at the gift shop and thought we’d catch it on the way back. Wrong! The gift shop closes at 8pm, so if you stay on the mountain to watch the sunset, then you miss the gift shop. They are losing a lot of money by having it close before people come down.
The ride was nice, very crowded tram. Which made my “afraid of heights” niece a little more anxious. Please be aware that up on top, it is a lot colder. We took extra jackets, but could have used our winter jackets because of the wind. Once the sun went down, it got really chilly and what winds made it cold. If you are going to stay up on the mountain for a while bring something to eat and drink (especially water). This was a great stop, except for the gift shop (the reason for 4 stars). Go for the sunset,

Nice views

By TravelMXN |

What i did not like:

-Expensive
-Crammed
-Long wait

I would suggest to reduce how many people goes in the tram so everyone can have a nice view since that is what we pay for.

Purchase tickets online in advance, and be prepare to wait stand in line for at least 45 minutes each way.

Grab some water bottles, a light jacket and comfortable shoes.

Make sure to have plenty of time.

By tstrle |

Waited 1 1/2 hours. Line moved at a snails pace. Ticket times do not matter, you just need a ticket and can show up anytime.

Would be helpful to have microphone on tram so you can hear the commentary.

Must Do in ABQ; Great Way to Spend Time in Nature

By Michelle L |

This was a really enjoyable experience and fun thing to do while visiting ABQ. We arrived just before 11pm on a Monday and hardly waited at all to get on the tramway. A couple of hours later it was very busy with a long line, though. The ride to the top is quite smooth and slow. You are standing the entire time, there aren't places to sit in the tramway. The person operating the tramway pointed out some fun tidbits during our ride. He also pointed out a cabin at the top of the peak and said "it's a nice, easy 3/4 mile hike to that cabin, I highly recommend it." So we took his advice and hiked to the cabin. Well, I believe the hike is actually more like 1.5 miles long and not quite as easy as he made it seem. The path has many large boulders that are so smooth and slippery to walk on. OR there is so much crumbly rock that also makes it rather prone to falls. I'm not an avid hiker, but I'm also not unfamiliar with walking for exercise. This hike was more work than I was prepared for, but we made it. Be sure to bring water if you take this hike! It was a beautiful view and great way to spend time in nature. We really enjoyed it and it was well worth it.

Tram ride

By Donna D |

The wait to board was 1 1/2 hour, we had a 5-8 time reserved. By the time we arrived at the top, the Ten 3 bar was closed and they would not allow visitors to use the faculty!
There was a single mens and women’s restroom in the loading area for 200 plus peole waiting to go back down. No water, no facilities. And hour and a half wait to go down!
For a quick view at the top. The view was wonderful, but not worth waiting 3 hours of waiting! I understand the restaurant was booked, but the bar was closed by the time we were able to go up the tram!
We started at 5 pm! They supposedly only sell a certain number of tickets. This was the last night of the balloon fiesta! It was a wasted night!

A must do!

By Megan B |

Absolutely love the whole experience! The ride, views all the way to the top, and the small little world at the top! Fun intimate bar, some outdoor photo ops and benches to hang. Can't wait to do this again!

Not a good experience!

By jeanaprather |

We were visiting friends who live in Albuquerque and had brought some guests from England with us to take in all that New Mexico has to offer. We had suggested this trip to Sandia as we thought it would be a good experience for them. Sadly, this experience was an embarrassment to the American hospitality! We were told as we entered the gate by a very surly individual that you could only get tickets online and would have to purchase them while we were parked in our car before entering the boarding area. We did this, much against our will. We were then greeted by another very grumpy employee and told to stand in line. We then discovered that it is not necessary to purchase tickets online. They can by obtained at a ticket office. The next disappointment is the restaurant/bar. We really wanted a cup of coffee. It was stone cold. The two ladies serving in the bar area really need some additional training in customer service! Not a pleasant experience at all. We sat at a table to be moved to the bar area to be told we could only have our coffee outside. This was the first day that the trails were open after being shut for a while but we were made to feel so unwelcome that we will not ever return. We reside in Texas, in our in our late seventies and my husband is retired military. We certainly did not expect to receive such an un welcoming and disastrous day on the mountain!

Confirm weather and tram times before purchasing tickets

By G S |

If you want to go on this tram during the cooler months, call them before purchasing your tickets, and I would recommend booking an early time. We happened to go on a day that was windy and cold for the 4-8p time, thinking we would see the sunset, but had to wait an hour 20 minutes outside in the cold for a tram. Never did it say on the website they were only running one tram, so by the time we got on the tram it was dark.
Also, when we you got to the top we had to wait another 40 minutes to get down.

Great ride, better views

By Rob S |

If it weren’t for other riders I would have given it a 10. We enjoyed the ride except for other people who kept pushing around and sticking their phones in front of your face to shoot videos and pictures. Why yes, your social media post is more important than my experience. Enjoy the moment in person instead of viewing everything through your phone people.

Unprofessional staff with contradictory statements

By Yulu J |

Absolutely unacceptable experience! We arrived at 3 pm for our scheduled time and were delayed a mere five minutes at the tram entrance, checking in at 3:05 pm. The staff's attitude was atrocious, blaming us for the delay and falsely claiming that trams run every 20 minutes. Despite his assurance that arriving at 3 pm would guarantee timely boarding, we were left waiting for an outrageous 40 minutes with no tram in sight. The staff's rude behavior and contradictory statements were incredibly frustrating and unprofessional. Their extensive disclaimers seem designed to cover up such poor service. Avoid at all costs!

Tram-tastic

By Immyness |

We stopped for a day in Albuquerque and headed to the Tram to hike and explore. Our family loved every minute of it. The wait time wasn’t bad and they run the Trans as stated (about every 15-30 minutes each way). The trip up is impressive and you really feel quite Tibet. Learning about the construction of the Tram was mind boggling. Trying to imagine 5,000 helicopter trips to finish a part of it was wild. The amount of materials makes you take pause because your so high and can appreciate building and manpower to a new level.

The hike to the little house at the top was challenging and worth every moment! Make sure to take water as you’ll need it. You can see for miles and miles and it’s just wonderful!

Beautiful Views

By lovestravelWV |

Winds had been very high first part of our trip and the Tram was closed several days. On our last day in Albuquerque the winds died down and we were able to ride to the top. What amazing views! I am scared of heights but hubby really wanted to ride the tram. I am so glad we did. A must do if you have the time. The views on the ride up and back down are breathtaking.

Highly recommend

By Julie K |

The room was very clean, smelled nice and clean. The gentleman who checked me in was very nice, very helpful. Definitely a good place to stay!

Don’t miss this!

By N4MATIX |

What an interesting and amazing experience. This is currently the second longest tramway in the WORLD. A guide rides with you and provides unique and insightful commentary as well as reassuring dialogue for those who might be fearful of the heights. Be advised the temps are always 20+ degrees colder at the peak which is over 10,000 feet. There is a restaurant at the top that seems to be busy, but we didn’t try it as it required reservations. Take a bottle of water with you, the bottles of water at the peak are expensive. :)

This was a HORRIBLE experience!

By Sherpa820268 |

This was a horrible experience! Waiting in the cold outside for almost 2 hours to board the Tran was outrageous. Once we were ready to board, they crammed 50 people in each of the 2 trams for the trip up the mountain. I am praying that we did not get the COVID virus because these were conditions for a super spreader. Once at the top of the mountain, it took another 1 1/2 wait to come down. We had reservations at the mountain top restaurant, Ten 3, but were so distraught over the tram that we decided not to have dinner here.

Excellent views and challenging hikes!!

By lmais |

The 15-minute ride is fun and informative with the tour guides that go up with you. At the top you are able to spend time dining, walking around or being challenged by a hike to the top. We went to the kawana's cabin which was 3 miles hike round trip and decently challenging. Beautiful vistas and helpful staff

Superb

By DestinationEverywhere |

Superb!!! A must do Activity when in Albuquerque, eat at the restaurant at the top, enjoy the views come back down at sunset…

Beautiful View of Albuquerque

By MaritaGodfrey |

The tram ride to the ski area in the Sandia Mountains is definitely worth doing. The vista from the top is amazing. Our plan was to ride up and have lunch at Ten3. Unfortunately, the restaurant is closed on Wednesdays, unbeknownst to us.

Awesome !

By Joe |

This is a must do for anyone travelling in this area. The trip up the mountain was awesome and got better yet when we reached the top. My wife and I hiked around quite a bit and enjoyed the awesome scenery. The man who operated the lift was very informative and comical at the same time. I highly recommend this place !

The views 😍

By Dame |

Outstanding views and staff informative and friendly. We went late afternoon and not too busy. Was able to get a great view down and up. We took some pictures but in person is so much better.

Fabulous view and fun experience

By Global56378987247 |

Amazing views, smooth ride. Friends went outside personal comfort zone regarding altitude, and another afraid of heights. Both happy to have taken the ride.

Above the clouds and beyond deck expectations!

By Stephanie J |

An incredible experience from start to finish! The Sandia Peak Tramway offer stunning views and a unique perspective of New Mexico’s landscape floating above the clouds feels almost surreal. The ride is smooth, the staff is great, and the scenery at the top is absolutely worth it. A must-do when visiting Albuquerque!

Beautiful scenery, and excellent tour guide

By Betsy Gard |

Beautiful tram ride, our guide was excellent on the trip up pointing out rock formations and giving history. A little pricey at $35 for the round-trip ride. Nice gift shop.

Great Views & Awesome Tram Ride

By Walter O |

Awesome Tram Ride to the top. Enjoyed some great views of the city and surrounding area. Staff was very good!

Horrible

By emil b |

None of your time is respected and is a scam. You're required to buy a ticket before even seeing the line where you wait for 2+ hours

Go in good weather, seriously!

By TXHusker |

The ride up was very pretty and informative. It was 23 degrees at the top. Once you get off the tram you have two options. Look at the view in the elements or go inside the bar restaurant area. If the bar is full you are able to get a drink to go, outside! The restaurant was empty but it would be 45 min for a table. I’ve been to a lot of mountain tops areas all over the world. This one was not pleasant at 23 degrees. They lack the space to accommodate a larger group of people for shelter, snacks, drinks or much of anything else. The vending machines take dollars bills. We spent about 30 minutes at the top and came right back down. 15 min of our time was waiting for the tram to come back. I wouldn’t suggest spending this much money on a mountain top with minimal faculties after you get to the top.

Fun Experience

By mimi_in_Texas |

We were only in Albuquerque for one night and decided to try the tramway. I'm afraid of heights but you feel very safe in the Tram. The people were very friendly and were very knowledgeable. The price is very reasonable. It takes about 15 minutes to get to the top then you are allowed to hike or just walk around as long as you want. Never felt rushed. It was a good experience and the views were amazing from up top.

Take the tram up and back for an exhilarating short excursion. And if you can afford it, grab dinner too.

By liz_unknown |

It's pricey but such a fantastic experience. This is not like any other tram I've been on where you're roughly the same distance from the mountain side. There are times you're dangling about “7.6 seconds” above the ground (according to our tram operator). You'll feel the wind through the tiniest if openings as you near the top.

View from the mountain tram.

Had a good time. Wish it wasn’t so cloudy but had a few clear spots. Crew were great. Wait was short.

AMazing

By Chuck C |

The gondola ride is not for the squeamish but the view of Albuquerque and the valley from the top of the Sandia Mountain was wonderful.

Awesome ride to the mountain peak

By Bluemoon |

Beautiful mountains a great place to hike!!! A must for nature lovers and hikers visiting the city. The tram is about a 15 minutes ride.

Hike to the cabin… it’s worth it.

By RLG764 |

The tram is running at full capacity again so be sure to get there early and don’t forget to order your tickets online and have your QR code ready. Masks are required on the tram and you can’t get on without one. Don’t miss the hike to the cabin… and plan for it… it’s about 4 miles round trip and the last 1/4 mile is all uphill… which was a challenge for a middle age Midwestern gal who walks regularly but was not used to the altitude. The views are spectacular at the top and there’s wild flowers and some awesome look outs along the way. Bring water and snacks and bug spray… the flies and other gnats etc were biting. If hiking is your thing this will be a super easy adventure and you’ll have no problem taking the additional trail.

Might be really nice, but even with tickets...

By CEBWaldron |

Wish we could have experienced this. Arrived at 5 pm for our 5-8 pm reservation and were advised the wait would be 2 hours, so we would potentially get to the top at 7:15 pm--sunset having occurred 30 minutes prior. Then, how long would the wait be to return? So. many. people. with tickets/reservations, standing and standing.

Amazing

By mszdbow |

Great, smooth tram ride. It rained the day we went so it was cloudy, cold, but still amazing. The views were great at the top

Great Morng Trip

By Carlton P |

Amazing views and the narrator bast funny and informative. The restaurant in the bar had views and the food and drinks were good. The service was fast and friendly.
There are trails to walk. You can even hike up or down the mountain.
Remember you are at a high altitude and the weather can change quickly.
Also, the later you go the more crowded it will become and the trams will be full going down.
There were hang gliders the day we went and it was fun to watch them drift by the mountains.

Great views

By amk |

We caught an afternoon trip up the mountain on the tram. Reserved times are required but made the same day. The ride was pretty smooth. The tram operator was informative. The views were amazing. It was windy at the top and quite a bit cooler than at the bottom of the mountain. We did a little walking then went and had refreshments in the restaurant before catching a tram down. I wouldn't hesitate to go again.

several of us were hit with vertigo going up and worse

By Marisa |

My ticket was between 9 and 3. I arrived at ten to 9 and still had to wait an hour in line to go up. By the time I trim came back down at about 11 am, the wait outside was about 3 hours to go up . There's only two trams and they take 15 minutes each way Although this is a unique experience, I just want to warn people that would happen to me have been to several people in my group. Half way up we got a little light-headed and we got to the top vertigo set in. I go on big roller coasters and in hot air balloons and have zero problems. This tram ride hit several of us really out of the blue. The ride down for us was worse, but we kept talking with one another and the woman/employee who came down with us was absolutely fantastic. Those of us that felt light-headed and shaky once we got to the top, we were all up there about 10 minutes and went right back down lol

A great adventure

By Chester D |

This is a must if you are not afraid of heights. This gives you a great view of the surrounding areas. The cables screeching and moaning can be a bit uneasy but just gotta put them thoughts and fears to the back of your mind and enjoy the ride.

Spectacular view!

By BHUANG69 |

Came here with a friend. I highly recommended this place because I have been to the tramway in Palm Springs. Round trip was around $35 but worth every penny. Not only was the view spectacular but when you think about it, this whole tramway was an engineering wonder. The staff operating the cars was also very knowledgeable about things that I asked. We were not hikers and so we only spent around one hour up there. But if you are into hiking, plan more time.

A must see!

By Dan R |

By far this was the coolest thing to do in Albuquerque! IT’s fairly priced and the views were just stunning! They only have 2 cable cars which come about every 15 minutes. The ride is about 15 minutes from point to point and was really smooth. There are no seats in the cable car, but there are plenty of poles to grab. There are also several short and long hiking trails at the top which we definitely took advantage of. I would highly recommend!

Had so much fun

By Julia W |

Great place and people I was a little nerves but the guy taking us up was so great and funny it mad it less scary it was all beautiful views and well with that wait

Awesome experience!

By Amy A |

We took the tram at sunset and it was a BEAUTIFUL experience! Just be aware, the tram carries a LOT of people at a time and is very crowded. The wait time was long, Very well worth it and the views were gorgeous! My sister and I loved it and recommend it!

Wonder struck!

By Val B |

Amazing scenery! Cable car was spacious and all glass was clean. Attendants were friendly and knowledgeable. Felt safe and secure. You owe it to yourself not to miss this if visiting Albuquerque!

Amazing views

By Karebear123 |

Travel up to 10300 ft above sea level to amazing views. Depending on how much time you have, there are several hikes you can do ranging from 1/4 mile to hiking all the way back to base, which could take about 6 hours. You can also just enjoy the view and perhaps have lunch at the restaurant located at top of mountain.

It was an adventure

By Reeni01 |

My 6yr old and I really enjoyed it. The wait time was a bit lo ger than I thought, even though we had a time slot.

Recommend getting an early time!

The Tram goes 10k feet high, you only see 2 towers from the building, but there are 3. Yikes!!

When we went it was super foggy at the top, so we couldn't see the lights from the top, and the restaurant was crowded. But it was okay. Taking the Tram was the highlight for us.

Albuquerque at night

By HMBSayre |

This was our second trip but the first one to come back down in the dark. The night was chilly, but the skyline was gorgeous.

What A View!!!

By CM11717 |

What a beautiful surprise this was - the view was amazing (definitely bring a coat - it was a great deal cooler up top than it was down below) We had a wonderful 'guide' who told spoke to the folks in our car about the park, their jobs and what it entails and about all we were seeing. You need to buy your tickets in advance which we did the same day we visited so that we knew about what time we'd be arriving there. We did not stay up top long and no one in our group could find the "casual dining" in order to sit indoors and enjoy the view, but we were all glad we made the stop and the trip to the top - I am sure you will be as well.

Spectacular Views

By Susan D |

The tram ride was worth every penny. We weren’t planning to hike at the top, but are so glad we did. The views are spectacular.

Albuquerque Gem

By schmebo |

The tram ride was smooth and took 15 minutes. The operator Chris was witty and informative. At the top, the walking trails are fairly easy and scenic. Or you can sit on a bench and enjoy the views.
Parts can get cool and windy or sunny, so bring a jacket and a hat.

Just kinda ok (meh)

By Craig M |

Honestly, this is going to be kind of subjective because everyone’s experience will be different.
We decided to take the Sandia Peak Tram up the mountain during our stay in Albuquerque during the annual balloon fiesta. Everything is a little more crowded during this week every year, so that influenced our experience.

The tram cars run about every 30 minutes or so, and we booked online tickets for a time block between 1 and 3 pm. Once we arrived we waited in line for nearly an hour to get on the tram. You’re then herded into the car along 20+ people and then proceed up the mountain. The views are amazing, if you are standing in a spot where you can see. The trip to the peak takes about 15 minutes, and again when you reach the peak, the views are spectacular.

At the top you can hike, have a meal or a drink or just sit and enjoy the view. You will eventually have to head back down on another tram car, and again we waited almost an hour in line for an equally cramped ride down the mountain.

Overall, there was nothing wrong with the experience, it was just too expensive for what you get. Although the views are very different, we enjoyed driving up to the peak on the opposite side of the mountain more, and it was essentially free.

This just really wasn’t our thing, so it’s difficult to recommend.

Timed tickets no guarantee

By Eddie S |

Do not buy tickets if you don't have at least three hours in your schedule. We bought timed tickets in advance. On arrival, we found an hour wait to board the tram with a warning from staff that it would probable be another hour wait on the top to board for the return trip. Unfortunately, we had picked a mid-afternoon time. With the wait, the ride up and back 2.5 hours assuming no time at the top. After waiting half an hour, and with at least another half hour wait ahead, we had to leave to return to town. The tickets are nonrefundable but they are good for one year, assuming we return to ABQ in that time.

Dissapointed customer

By Catherine B |

We waited almost 2 hours past our ticket time for our ride on the Tram. No updates as to why the wait. No one was moving for over an hour. Was dark and so cold by the time we got to the top and we weren't prepared as the line was in the hot sun until the sun went down. We only took a few pics and got back in line to go down because the sunsets were almost over. VERY DISSAPOINTED.

Spoiled by the teenage covid mask nazis

By TimWandMelG |

The tramway takes you to the top of the mountain (hint to the teenage girl giving the audio broadcast on the way to the top - the word mountain has a ‘t’ in the middle). The beautiful views from the top and the opportunity to wander around and experience the views, flora and fauna at the top of the mountain were spoiled by the teenage covid mask nazis who appeared to have been placed in charge. After being shouted at twice because a mask had slipped off a nose, we left.

A View From the Top

By Susan Dworkin |

An amazing tramway ride in the Sandia Mountains. Not to be missed! Views are incredible. And so peaceful to sit and look at this beautiful area

Disaster. Poor management.

By Luke S |

We took the tram up at 6:30 and immediately were instructed to go inside the welcome center due to rain. After the lightning stopped they were not able to run the trams due to a power outage. We were at the top until we were shuttled down the backside of the mountain at 1:30am. I called to ask for a refund and they claimed that it did not happen. We were not given a refund.

Enjoyed the tram

By Minder53 |

If you're going to the Sandia Peak Tramway, make sure you get your reserved tickets which are for two-hour increments. The tickets can be found on their website. I ordered tickets two nights before our arrival and they were available. However, when we arrived at the tram station, we observed a man who went up to the ticket counter and got his tickets.

The tram holds easily about 20 people so if you are claustrophobic, this may not be the activity for you. The windows were shut so it was a good temperature. It took approximately 15 minutes to arrive at the top. Masks were not required.

It's lovely scenery going up to the mountain as well as walking around at the top. I was hoping to eat our lunch in the restaurant at the top, but reservations were required. I was not aware of this. We went over to the other small restaurant and it was too loud/expensive for us, so we left.

They do offer military discounts. The ticket prices are ok for a one-time event.

Beautiful Experience

By Dan C |

This was so much fun. Positive Terrance made our ride to the top very enjoyable by providing background knowledge and entertaining stories. The view from the top is well worth the price of admission.

Beautiful views

By NomadicFamilyLife |

Buy your tickets online because they do sell out. We went on a Friday & bought tickets for one of the busiest time slots. There are 2 trams that work simultaneously. While one is at the bottom, the other is at the top. They leave every 15 min. It's hard to get pictures while in the tram if you aren't along the windows. There is a restaurant at the top but reservations are highly recommended. You are free to roam around once you reach the top. There are hiking trails in the summer and skiing in the winter. We were fortunate to catch 2 guys hang gliding from the top. My only complaint was the loud group riding up with us. We couldn't hear anything the guide was saying.

Have Patience!!!!

By Eileen L |

It was fun to do, but the lines were ridiculous and no where to wait! We waited three hours to actually go up on the tram. It is also pricey

Top of the Mountain

By DMEvans1993 |

This was a fun trip. Yes, it's a tad pricey for a ride up to the top of the mountain but they make it worth your while. The tram guide told us everything about the Sandia Mountains you could want to know, working in all the ecosystem levels and encouraging us to drink water to help combat altitude sickness (which is a real risk as you're nearly 11000 feet up). The irony is you weren't allowed water on the tram. (Naturally you could buy it at the top).

The day I went the restaurant/gift shop at the top was closed but I knew that. My disappointment was while there was a handicapped ramp from the tram station to the viewing deck off the restaurant but there wasn't one to the ground so you could go hiking. Now it's possible that was done because the trails would have been too rough and it could have been dangerous in an area where getting you help would take a long time (the tram is slow, about a 15-20 minute ride up). So I didn't get a chance to go down and hike around because there were multiple flights of stairs.

I did enjoy my time at the top. I'm glad I went.

Tram way ride experience

It was an awesome experience going up and down the mountains. The secret is in getting there early. The website does not work to purchase tickets. TEN 3 was also a good place to dine.

Needs information about the wait time

By Mark H |

Three of us booked for the 3 to 5 slot on a busy Saturday in October.
We arrived 3:30 and boarded 5:30. Stood in line for that time without food or water, no place to seat,
some shade! Live music worked hard but we did not need more noise. Fortunately, it was only about 70
degrees and the view from the stop was excellent. They should give information as to how long the wait
will be. Let us know whether we have time to eat, drink, or use the restroom. It should be easy to
predict waiting times because a tram holds 48 people and they run four flights per hour. They should send a survey after the visit, ask people what they want, and deliver some thins that the customer
needs. Bring a mask. Must be able to stand for 2 hours unless someone holds your place in line.

Amazing views, from every direction

By Paradise67861569192 |

This is a must do, if in Albuquerque. You can truly see the entire city from the top of the mountains.
The restaurant is really not worth it, though.

Amazing views!

By Nancy H |

Tickets are only sold 24 hours in advance and will sell out quickly. I set my alarm for 2 a.m. the day before our planned visit. I got 4 tickets for the 9-11 a.m. tram, but by 7 a.m. all the tickets for that time slot were sold out. When we were leaving, there was a long line to get aboard the tram, which holds 50 people. We attempted to have lunch at the café, but there was a 2 hour wait for a table. We did the short loop hike and found several spots for scenic photographs.

Amazing views and worth the trip

By Tracy K |

AMAZING views and definitely worth visiting! The kids hiked the trails…. I realized they I have A fear so I enjoyed the views from Ten 3!

The view is like looking out of an airplane.

By jatoes |

Beautiful view. Tram was closed due to weather on pre pandemic trip in the area 3 years ago. So glad we stopped to give this ride another try. You must purchase your ticket in advance now online.

Fun experience

By Meghan |

Fun experience to see the mountain views. Guide in the tram was very informative. Not a ton to do at the top but fun to walk around.

Great ride

We take a ride late afternoon. Dinner at the Ten 3 casual dining. We had a good dinner looking over the skiing runs. The ride down was just before sunset and saw a great sunset,

Sandia Peak Tramway Visit

By Betsy P |

The views of the Sandia Mountains were amazing. The tram took about 15 minutes both ways. Slow enough to enjoy the views but not too slow. The 'pilots' were very knowledgeable and willing to answer questions. Once at the top there were a variety of hiking options and one restaurant although it was not open. Definitely recommend going; well worth the time and money (about $35).

A great way to see the sunset!

By Stephanie M |

We went up with a group of 14. The wait for the tram was short, but it was packed full. (Wear a mask if you are socially distancing!) At the bottom of the mountain, the temp was near 100 degrees, but up top, it was time for a jacket. There was at least a 30-degree difference. There is a very small, but informative visitor center at the top and a gift shop at the base where you get on the tram. Views of ABQ are incredible and the kids loved the sunset.

Prepare to wait and wait and wait and wait….

By Parkball |

A three hour visit today consisted of 2 1/2 hours waiting in line for the tram. An older gentleman in front of me literally passed out during the wait (and it was later in the day not even during peak heat). The ride was pretty but totally not worth the trouble. They really should limit or better time their ticket sales because it results in quite a bad experience for their guests. Don’t bother.

Cool tram, reallllllly long wait

By Elizabeth R |

The tram ride was cool and the views from the top were great but the wait was extremely long. With only 2 or 3 trams running it took us over an hour and a half to get on one. The line was long and by the time we got to the tram we were pretty cranky. However, teh ride was fun and the weather at the top was great - a breezy 70 degrees compared to 90+ at the bottom. We packed a picnic lunch and enjoyed eating there. The wait to go back down was very short and much easier than going up. Basically the tram is definitely cool...but the wait was way too long. You have to stand in line the entire time and on the tram and that was exhausting.

Breathtaking

By AtimAR |

Lovely experience as always. It snowed up at the top. This is a definite must-do when in Albuquerque!

Lovely view; horrible management

By Joyce M |

The grand finale to our NM vacation was the tramway. The ride was spectacular and the view at the top was terrific. However, we waited two hours to get on the tram. Anyone with dinner reservations got to jump the line - we couldn't get reservations so we were going to sit at the bar. But we arrived at 7:45, due to the long wait in line for the tram up which was due to people with reservations, and the staff would not seat us, although they did seat the latecomers that had reservations. The stress of the wait and watching people jump the line is unfair to people that have tram reservations and to the employees who have to manage all of the confusion that this system causes.

Caution Once Tou Reach The Top

By Steve K |

We rode the tram after waiting 40+ minutes in line. The car was packed (This was on a Saturday) with the max of 40 people. The ride up was nice, but once at the top of the crest, what can you do? The winds were roughly
30 mph, and the temp was around 45 degrees. There's a restaurant / bar, which is basically the only place for shelter. My son and I went for a hike on the east side of the crest where there was o wind. Upon our return, my wife, who stayed back, was extremely frustrated because the restaurant / bar would not allow her inside unless she had a meal. She was not allowed to even sit in the bar area and have a glass of wine. And the prices at the 10-3 restaurant were in the stratosphere. All I can say is:NEVER AGAIN!

Save your time and money and take the scenic drive up to the crest from the east side, as it's well worth it.

Beautiful and scenic!!!

By NSouth |

Even though I am afraid of heights, I did it anyway. It was a smooth ride all the way up in 15 minutes. I enjoyed the funny stories told by the conductor and the great view.

A great view of the area

Trip was efficient and provided outstanding views of the Sandia mountains. The employees were all friendly and provided interesting insights into the operation of the tram and the views below.

Mountain Dining at Ten3

By blw528 |

Bought our tickets online but I suggest that you buy it at the site if you are from out of state because weather changes and may have delays. We were on queue with about 45 minutes wait time (we went on a Friday close to noon) and waited some good 15 min after we went up on the second floor where we waited for the tram. FYI- wear your mask inside the tram as it's quite packed. Weather in the mountain was in the 70s (high 90s below). There were picnic tables in the mountain where you can eat or dine at their Ten3 resto which we did for a full experience. We also did some walking in the hiking area (make sure you are wearing hiking shoes for a good grip) but there was thunderstorm coming which limits our time as announcement was made suggesting everyone to wait for the tram. Hiking down is quite easy but getting back up is challenging because altitude can make your breathing difficult. I would say that this place is worth visiting.

Great views!

By Cathy Brennan |

We heard about this from a local and it was easy to buy tickets online. We didn’t have too long of a wait, and the journey itself is about 15 minutes each way. Be sure to look for aircraft wreckage from TWA flight 260

Breathtaking

By Mgrims24 |

This was fantastic. Got in line early so we could get a spot at the very front of the car and it paid off. The views as you crest the second tower are breathtaking. All of the employees were friendly and engaging. Once at the top after taking in all the views we stopped at the bar at the 10-3 restaurant. Never had drink with better views. The bartender was friendly and made one of the best cocktails I have ever had. It was called the prohibition trail blazer and had Bookers bourbon, agave and burnt orange, which made for quite the presentation. The dry rubbed wings were also fantastic. Thumbs up all around. Made for a great day.

Worst Attraction in all of New Mexico

By David F |

This is definitely the worst attraction in Albuquerque, if not America. They oversell tickets and make you wait in line for 2.5 hours. Why would you make us pay for tickets with reservations but not be able to use the tickets in our allotted time? By the time we got on the gondola, it was already dark. All you saw was the city lights, but you can do that by booking a flight. Then by the time we got up, they stopped seating people for dinner but the best part was when the employee said there are vending machines. Only thing is that the vending machine takes only coins and it’s out of order! My dad who is diabetic started getting low sugar because we thought we would be able to make it up to the restaurant and eat on time, so now we had to go back down and then there was another hour wait! This place is a scam and whoever owns this place should be ashamed for hustling people. The tickets are not refundable to begin with so we couldn’t even leave when the line was 2.5 hours to begin with. I advise anybody visiting to NEVER come here. Worst decision of our lives.

Fun visit

By stasee000 |

This was a fun visit. The tram ride is beautiful, but try to make sure you get a spot near the window so that you can see the views. I'm sure the views at the top are amazing, but the day we went was too cloudy.

Ten3 is the restaurant at the top. It was great, but make sure you have reservations.

Line attendants should learn how to talk to patrons

By Maureen B |

We visited the day after Balloon Fiesta ended, which turned out to be a poor choice. The two staff members in the cars on the way up and down were great; however, the staff managing the line need some lessons in hospitality. First, we were lectured on how we shouldn’t have arrived at the beginning of our time window, which caused a significant wait. In addition there was no staff member at the end of the line to help newly arriving guests wait in the right place or understand why the line was so long. In short, guests were blamed for the operation’s inefficiencies in the number of tickets sold for each time window.

You must ride - Get reservations PRIOR to arrival

By Robert G |

So cool. Pick an end and take a lot of pictures or video.

The tram holds 48 people per "flight." Currently you must wear a mask on the tram.

Views are spectacular. This is a must see / do event in ABQ.

On the way down, evening, folks saw a bear. The tram was delayed due to thunderstorms, but safety was paramount.

After getting to the top there are nice trails to walk. Ski lift is on the other side.

Get reservations PRIOR to visiting.

Don’t miss this!

By Kristen S |

The Sandia Peak Tramway was amazing! Such an amazing view from all sides and the guide Patrick was very knowledgeable and funny. The restaurant at the top was great, with an amazing view. Highly recommend!!

Scenic Hike

By @atracks |

Went up around 12:30. The tram ride takes 15 minutes. Once up there a hike can be done that will take 25-40 minutes (depending on your fitness level) up to a cabin. It had very scenic views.

Get in line first if you want to reserve your spot on the tram going up or down.

Worth it!

By Molly R |

The tram ride was totally worth ~45 minute wait! I can't imagine a better way to see the city and experience all the incredible vistas the region offers. The helpful and entertaining staff made the experience even better. Conversing with our 'tram guide' Willow was the highlight of our trip. Thanks so much!

Beautiful But Be Prepared To Wait

By LM77WashingtonDC |

Arrived around 5:15 pm on a Sunday night. Stood on line about 45 minutes before we boarded the tram. Stood another 15-20 minutes for the ride up the mountain. The views are spectacular and so is the mountaintop hiking. They should provide benches while you wait (I have a bad knee). Also, when you reach the boarding area, apparently you’re supposed to check in. Unfortunately there is no signage telling you that. There’s signs only saying Group Check In, Customer Service, and Annual Passes. Still worth doing but a few easy fixes and this would get my 5 th star.

A peak experience in Albuquerque

By Phillip P |

The Sandia Peak Tramway is a “must do” in Albuquerque. It takes you from 6,000 some feet in the city up to 10,300 feet at the crest of the Sandia mountains. The tramway is modern and well run and affords magnificent views on the way up and at the top. Be sure get reservations on-line in advance. If you have the opportunity, be sure to visit the Ten Three restaurant at the top. The ambiance, view and food are all top notch and the prices are reasonable for what you are getting.

Restaurant closes early with no notification

By Elaine G |

As we went up the tram at night, there was not much to see, which was fine. 3/4s of the reason to go up was to eat dinner in the pub with family and friends. Half way up, we were told by the tram operator that the pub was closed because they were slow so they closed early! So we spent $125 (5) people, to ride a 15 min tram only to come right back down. Extremely disappointed and completely unacceptable. If your hours say open til 7:30, we can only assume you are open til 7:30! Poor management!!

Interesting commentary on the way up the mountain & breathtaking views. Some folks ride up and hike down.

Loved the experience

By Sggypsy |

Beautiful views and the sunset is amazing. Be aware as the sun goes down, it is cold so go prepared with a coat. Saw paragliders and a black bear at a distance. Albuquerque night lights are beautiful from the summit.

Excellent Views and experience

By iGoer |

Breathtaking views.
Views are really good, during the journey and also from the top of the mountain.
Our ride back was during sunset, and setting sun in front was us was a very view to keep looking at.
Crew is very helpful and courteous.

Great Way to See the Countryside

By Babu2773 |

Come up early to hike the mountain, enjoy lunch or dinner, and head down as the sun sets. If you want to eat at the fancy restaurant, make sure you have reservations. The ride up is fun, as is the ride down, and the scenery is beyond beautiful. We came down just as the sun was setting and it was super crowded. Check the website for ticket information and purchase your tickets in advance so you are not disappointed.

Go early and take water and layers. Worth the trip

By Julia M |

Really easy to book online and we got there early for our 9-11 slot and walked straight on. We came down at 11:30 and the queues were starting to build but it is worth the wait. The tramway takes about 15 minutes and covers 2.4 miles taking you up to 10,300 feet. There are amazing trails which are relatively easy to walk and it has amazing views of Albuquerque. Make sure you take plenty of layers it gets windy and the temperature can be significantly lower than at the bottom. We went early June on a Sunday and I am sure it gets busy but we loved the silence and peace

Exhilarating Ride & Fun Hike

By Gus G |

Our family of 4 thoroughly enjoyed our ride on the tram, as well as, the Kiwanis lodge hike we took at the top. The views are spectacular. If possible try to attend on on off-peak time. We visited on a Wednesday @ 4pm and had absolutely no trouble accessing the tram in either direction. The 3 mile round trip Kiwanis hike at the top was an unexpected treat that rewards the hiker with exceptional views and is very doable. Plan on spending 2 hours or so including wait times.

Go early cause it gets crowded and those trams aren't for the faint of heart!

Amazing Sunset and night view

By 830sunflower |

The view is great and we enjoyed very much! The tram is crowded, but everyone wears mask. We got lucky to see someone paragliding. The sunset and night view are the best. On our way back to our hotel, we also see the wonderful fireworks from the balloon fiesta. We are just in luck! Highly recommended!

A must for sure

By Bt119DP |

What a fun scary excited experience. The views are amazing. We did not eat at the restaurant but it did look very busy. Staff were all so friendly. A must if you are in the area and can handle heights.

Might not meet your expectations..

By Jonathan E |

Not quite what we expected, unfortunately! We were packed in like sardines (literally shoulder to shoulder) so the views going up were obstructed to say the least. Great hiking and views on top of the mountain, but you’d get the same by driving up yourself (with the added bonus of a beautiful scenic drive). As others have mentioned, the tram wait times can be long. Instead of blaming “busy times of year”, it would be worthwhile to adjust the arrival time capacity. Despite what looks like a reasonable refund policy, if you decide to change your mind and not use the the round trip portion of your tickets you will not be refunded the difference. Seems like a missed opportunity to help customers who were charged for services that were not rendered.

Beautiful

By kristin |

Beautiful views! Our tram drivers are both funny and provided good info. It was really windy at the top so we did not spend a lot of time up there. Be prepared to wait. We had the 5-8 ticket window. We waited about 45 minutes at the bottom and about 10 at the top. Trams leave about every 20 minutes and hold about 45 people.

Visit at off peak times of year.

By tallquilter |

It should be called 'Cramway'. With so many people (capacity 50) in the car, you couldn't move, couldn't turn around to get a different view. Taking pictures or video was difficult unless you were one of the lucky ones facing the glass side. Half as many people would alleviate this problem and make the long waiting times worth it.

Isn’t a scam, but it feels like one!

By Erin R |

We showed up for our 5-8pm time at 4:45, on the first day of balloon fiesta so we expected a wait. We didn’t expect the 2-5pm time to still have 200 people to get up the mountain when we showed up. We waited 2 hours in the downstairs line, there were yelling matches between people in line and the workers because no one was telling us what was going on and it seemed like people were getting cut (how hard would it be for a worker to explain that there are people from the previous time that still needed to get up? It was only once we started talking to each other in line we pieced together what was going on)

After that fiasco we were moved upstairs where we were told we would have around 45 minutes to wait yet, and don’t forget everything on the mountain closes at 8 and it was at least another hour wait to get back down. We picked this time so we could watch the sunset, showed up in plenty of time, but ultimately we left the line when we realized that by the time we got up, it would be dark so there would be nothing to see or to do, and we would have to turn right back around and come back down.

Management told us “there’s nothing we can do, it’s balloon fiesta” but they decide how many tickets are sold so it seems like the obvious answer is don’t sell so many tickets? But if you look at the one star reviews here, it seems this is a recurring problem at all times of year so maybe they aren’t looking to change or do better, I don’t know.

To me, if there was proper communication from staff and realistic wait times told to us in line, it would have lessened a lot of the frustration people around us were feeling. Personally I was beyond frustrated that we wasted hours of our night standing around.

The only way I would recommend others go is if you have dinner reservations and show up early for those, because that’s the only way you’re getting on the tram with less than a two hour wait.

Biggest letdown of our otherwise great trip.

Up in the Clouds

By Janay S |

Even though we had to wait a little bit (a little over an hour, due to a maintenance issue) it wasn't that bad. Being able to see the mountains from literally up in the clouds was memorable. It was cold up there but so worth it!! Even the kids couldn't complain once we were up in the tram!

Beautiful views and a pleasant ride.

By M C |

Smoothly run, efficient operation. The ride up and down is smooth and the operator provides commentary to enhance viewing. The topside views are magnificent. Find a way to work this into an Albuquerque visit.

Highly recommend- amazing experience!

By Chelsea P |

This was such a cool experience! My husband, 10 year old son and I headed here from Albuquerque. It was a beautiful drive! The ride was smooth and the view on the way is spectacular. We are not fans of heights but enjoyed this ride. It was about 15 mins and they have two trams running so not really long waits one way or the other. This is mostly a standing experience- there is one little bench in the corner for those that have issues standing. The bench is the best seat in the tram so you don’t lose out on experience! The older couple that were sitting on the bench had a great time!

At the top, the views are breathtaking. The observation decks are spread out and there are quite a few places to sit. There are good trails to hike or just meander around. Beware that altitude makes it a little hard to breathe so if you are hiking a bit and taking the tram back down give yourself time to get back to the station.

It was around 3pm and we last minute decided to grab a table in Ten3 for a cocktail and charcuterie board. The view was great!

An experience of a lifteime!

By Tomcat29 |

I have always had a fear of heights (except when flying) but this was an experience I did not want to miss. I wanted to conquer my fears and live in the moment to appreciate the beauty from over 10k elevation to speak about for years to come. From the ground, the elevation did not seem so terrifying but once and the ascend started, it seemed a bit terrifying but the magnificent views soon I forgot my freight as I was in awe.

The view from the top was superb and frigid! We went in late November so snow was present at the peak. We wanted to walk down the steps on the other side but the steps were covered in snow and slippery but managed to get some pictures and videos. The descending ride seemed quicker and we were luck to watch hang gliders - it was magnificent! Perfect trip to take in the warmer months with friends and family.

Beautiful day

By MReplive |

Was a great experience. Staff was great! Beautiful relaxing day!! I am definitely coming back with family next time!

Glad we did it!

By Treenzs |

Fun experience. The kids loved it! Very safe. It’s cold at the top so take a jacket. We went in afternoon. Restaurant not open when we went. Lots to explore at the top so allow a bit of time! Love the gift store down the bottom! Lots of nice things in there.

Amazing view and you can get wonderful food & drinks at the top!

By sonseekers |

I was here when I was ten. I WILL NOT tell you how very long ago that was, but when I was going back to NM, I knew I had to visit. A lot has changed and we loved the bar/restaurant at the top. What hasn't changed is the amazing view. You have to do this if in the area.

STUNNING VIEWS

By BigD51 |

We drove up to the tram station and were pleasantly surprised that we paid and rode the next tram up to the top. Trails were closed and the restaurant was closed. Thats O K because it was 20 degrees colder and only about 40 with strong wind. We saw and we were ready to ride the next Tram to the bottom. Still a great experience at 60 dollars. Unique experience. do it if you have the time. We did it in a little over 1 hour total.

Views all around

By Louis F |

Really awesome views but the cabin can get crowded. There isn't a bad view as ong as you aren't stuck in the middle of the gondola.

Tram was sold out

By Richard B |

We were driving cross-country across I-40 in early July 2022. Was looking forward to a ride on the Sandia Peak tram. Unfortunately, we were unable to purchase tickets because the tram was supposedly sold out for the entire day. The rude employee told us to go online and purchase tickets for the following day. We just did not get a very good feel for this venue because the few employees we interacted with were not very friendly. Since we had not planned to overnight in ABQ, we did not purchase tickets for the following day.

Disappointed

By Terri J |

Very disappointed! Wait was long, very disorganized organization. The best part was the ride up then down! Nothing really to see on top of the mountain. It was trashy. I wouldn’t go again.

If you are ever find yourself in Albuquerque you have to take this team ride. Amazing views and friendly staff. Gondola ride is awesome.

Awesome views!

By DoctorMama777 |

Must do if in Albuquerque! Amazing experience and a beautiful view from both sides of the mountain at the top.

Views are worth it

By Lori |

Beautiful scenery and good hiking. Good for any level of hiking. Great guides for a smooth ride. It's colder at the top so come prepared.

Amazing views over Albuquerque

By Jennifer R |

We loved our trip to the top of Sandia Peak. We waiting about 45 minutes to get to take our flight to the top. We ate in the casual part of the restaurant at Ten3. The view was amazing and the food was good. We did have an unexpected sleet and rain storm hit that delayed our ride down but felt that the tramway managed the situation well ti maximize safety. Bring a jacket as the temp changed multiple times.

Beautiful views

By Michelle D |

We went in the morning when it wasn’t too crowed. The tram operators were very knowledgable and the views from the top were incredible. Highly recommend !

Beautiful climb up the Sandia Mountains!

By Maggie B |

Enjoyed the tramway even if I do have an issue with heights. My husband saw a bear, along with most of the others on our tram. Unfortunately, I was busy clinging on to the middle grab-bar and missed the siting. We stayed for dinner up top and it was definitely worth it, if a bit spendy.

Waste of time and money. Waited two hours after arrival time to get on tram.

By Rebecca S |

This was a complete waste of time and money. We had tickets for the 5-8 tram. We arrived promptly at 5 and had to wait in line for two hours before we got on the tram. During that time it got dark, and do to the clouds we saw nothing.

View for days

By Heather J |

We got there right at nine and were the 4th tram up. It was super windy that day. One we were at the top the snow and I w was blowing and they said we had to all go back down. It was an awesome view and drastically colder. Wish we could have at at the restaurant. It was nice seeing the canyons and view of Albuquerque.

Amazing View

By Susan H |

We rode the tram up for both the view and the restaurant to celebrate my 60th birthday! It was a great experience! The young men running the tram, now I sound old (lol), were very friendly and knowledgeable! Each time we came to a tower, they gave us a heads up about the movement of the tram car keeping everyone feeling safe. We had to come down a bit early due to the winds picking up, but again the operators were calm and told us everything to expect on our ride down with wind gusts. Great experience and great employees!

I rode the Tram when I was 8 years old. Now 61 my wife and I rode the tram. Absolutely a wonderful sight for all. I would highly recommend to all.

Amazing views

By CSL122 |

I have a horrible fear of heights but pushed myself to do this. It was worth it. Beautiful views. Not much at the top except for a restaurant that doesn't open until 11. We took pictures and came back down. All in all, very glad we did this.

Be prepared to WAIT, STAND, WAIT and Stand some more.

By Jetsempress67 |

Even with timed entry tickets you will wait in line for more than 1 hr w/ no seating & jammed together, Your tickets are non refundable so you’re stuck. I inquired about our wait time and was rudely told to be grateful, the wait was 3+ hours earlier that day. My advice- skip it or if you try it, if the line is too long you can insist on a refund at customer service desk and then …skip it.

Timing is everything here.

By Adamz69 |

We went to the top early August 2015 on a fine sunny day and it was a beautiful experience. Not cold or gloomy and no waiting line. October 2025 (1st day after Balloon Fiesta), over 2 hours wait in line combined with cold, foggy, drizzle. There is zero view below when you're literally up in the thick clouds. We booked days ahead with an uncertain weather forecast and failed to imagine the fog and long wait, based on previous memories. Nobody to blame, but hope this helps others prevent an uncomfortable, unworthy adventure. Being so cold and wet outside, the restaurant at top was completely packed.

Sandia Mountains

By Yvonne M |

Can't say I loved Albuquerque that much, but Sandia Tramway was well worth the price and time. These tickets can only be purchased online 24 hours in advance. I highly recommend you make reservations to the restaurant at the top ahead of time. It'll help with wait times as its a very busy place. Reserved early evening in October before sunset which was beautiful. The tram ride is longer than you expect and it's pretty fun. The conductor tells a bit of a story with jokes and its definitely entertaining. Views at the top are amazing. Sunset was spectacular. We had a delicious dinner as well.

A lovely ride up to and down from Sandia Peak

By Galeda |

My friend and I were in Albuquerque for the weekend and bought tickets for the Sandia Peak Tramway. We arrived within the window for our 3 to 5 pm ride up the mountain and were a bit dismayed to find that the line to board the tram was REALLY backed up. They were doing maintenance and could only carry 25 people (instead of 45) per car. They projected a 2-hour wait, but we only waited 45 minutes, which we appreciated.

The ride up and back down was really beautiful but a bit scary, because at times we were more than 100 ft above the ground. But the views were amazingly lovely, and our car guides were very kind and reassuring. On the way up, our guide pointed out features on the mountains and told us the history and mechanics of the tram. We arrived safe and sound at Sandia Peak summit, which is 10,600 ft elevation.

Be aware that, unless one wants to go hiking on the trails, skiing down the mountain (the runs are on the opposite side from the tram), or dine at the restaurant located at the summit, there isn't a large area to visit once you’re up there. We strolled around for a little bit, chatted with a young couple coming back from dining at the restaurant, and spoke at some length with the hostess. She was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area, being an Albuquerque native, and gave us several helpful tips for our stay. She will be transferring to college in Arizona in the fall, with double majors in pre-law and political science. Wow!

There was almost no line for the downhill ride, and our car was only half full. The guide said that often happened, because many people choose to walk, rather than ride, down the mountain. It’s pretty rough terrain, so kudos to them!

We did enjoy our trip on the Sandia Peak Tramway; we would have probably had a better time had we done our research on what is offered at the summit and dressed accordingly. Thanks to the tram guides for the lovely ride!

Wonderful time there, first experience for me, was so amazing, i will be back again and another time of the year, October 5 was raining and the visibility there was low. Anyway I really enjoyed.

Expect Delays both directions

By Marion S |

They did not report to us prior to purchasing that they would be running the one and only tram at half capacity nor that bus groups are allowed to jump the line without waiting with the rest of the paying customers in their reservation window. Arrived at the start on reservation window. Boarded at ended of 2 hour window. When we arrived we were told it would be one hour wait due to above.

A great ride to 10,500 feet.

By Joseph Y |

If you plan to hike, bring lots of water. You can also hike up and do a one way down if you are so inclined.

Epic views, longest cable, hope you’re OK with heights

By Curtis S |

After getting off our plane and getting our rental car, this was the first place on the schedule. Tickets are best acquired online, which includes parking fee. Apparently, Thursday around noon is a good time to visit, as there were no crowds and we didn’t wait at all to get on the next tram. COVID protocols were in full effect and we even observed the interior of the tram getting wiped down between trips. The trip up is extremely scenic and the span between tower two and the top is the longest freestanding cable car span in the world. If you have issues with heights, stand in the middle and look to the horizon. Once up top, there are a couple of short easy trails that lead to vistas. One safety note, there are few barriers to protect you from sheer drop offs (and death). Keep a close eye (or leash) on children and pets. Probably only need an hour or two. recommended.

WOW

By Thesecretdiner |

This is right up there as a must do, the views are absolutely outstanding not only at the top but on the way up as well. The guides in the cable cars are also really friendly and very knowledgeable. You have to book ahead because it does get busy and may not run if the wind picks up but wow its really worth it.

Great Day!

By susan s |

We had a great day traveling up the tram for an excellent lunch at 10-3. The views are beautiful. Only a short wait to board, but a 45 min wait for lunch that passed quickly with a takeout drink on the deck.

Wait, wait, wait

By Mike D |

They seriously overbook these trams. We had tickets for 3 to 5 pm. We waited nearly two hours to get on. We waited an hour to get a seat in the restaurant and our meal took 2 hours. Then we waited 45 minutes to get back down. The restaurant is seriously understaffed.
They need to give up some profit and make the bookings more reasonable!

Avoid Sold Out Afternoons

By Stephen S |

I recommend not purchasing afternoon tickets during large events like the balloon fiesta or other days they sell out. They sometimes delay earlier passengers if it rains or is poor conditions resulting in pushing late afternoon passengers until the evening and potentially after sunset, and long 2 hour lines waiting for earlier timeslot passengers to get on. And if that happens to you - as it did to me - they do not guarantee refunds, which must be submitted same-day, by 5pm if possible.

Beautiful views and great way to enjoy the top of Sandia Mountain. Really enjoyed the experience.

By Lara S |

The tram itself was an experience with great views of the canyon below. The tram itself is a fun experience but be prepared to stand and they fill the tram up (may not be for someone who is claustrophobic. We did the cabin hike at the top and loved it. Finished the time on the top enjoying the views and food at the restaurant.

Tram ride to the top of Sandia Mountains in Albuquerque, New Mexico

By Don R |

What a thrill Ride !
An unbelievable view from the overlook on top of the Sandia mountains, even a warm building which was real nice . . .
The Staff were very helpful, Friendly and Courteous everything was clean ( including the restrooms ) Giftshop was nice and well stocked.
Restaurant on the at the top was very nice, had good food and great selection of Beer, wine and drinks.

Long Wait

By Charlottetomk |

Had a reservation for the 1:00-3:00 time slot. Arrived at 12:50 and then waited in line for two hours. Manager came out to make an announcement after about an hour and a half to say someone had a medical issue which is what was holding things up.

First, they should have made the announcement sooner. Second, they should have found an alternative means for boarding the tram. Seems like a failure at crisis planning.

The tram ride itself was nice and the views at the top are spectacular. We wanted time at the top for some hiking but the wait prevented that because we had to leave for another destination.

Great views

By rckndad |

A great way to view the local area. We were passing through and had some extra time in Albuquerque so this was a great way to view the area. It was easy for us fill a couple of hours on our trip as we passed through the area. We want to go back at some point and do more things in the local area. We would like to have hiked once we are on the top of the mountain, but we did not have the time. There was a lot to do once on the top of the mountain.

Beautiful!

By JohnBCt |

Three of us took the tram is was great with beautiful going up and coming down the views for on top were really nice Was a bit cool though

Gorgeous sunset views

By Pam⭐️ |

Oh my goodness what wonderful views of the city and up the mountain to the peak! At the top there’s a restaurant bar area called Ten3 that’s worth visiting for drinks and light snacks. Check out the sunset up here for spectacular views!

One of the best things to see in Albuquerque

By Lisa M |

The Tram will take you up to see some of the most amazing views ever, and there are some fun trails in the area, as well. Not cheap—but worth the price!

Not To Be Missed

By Wendy & Preston |

We were able to take the tram up but only stay for 30 minutes because the winds were picking up. The employees were very apologetic but it was clear that their primary concern was our safety. We appreciated this and the stunning views from the top.

Thrill and Relax

By PC of Edmond |

Thrill...Relax...hike...enjoy...thrill again! That sums up the afternoon we spent going up to the crest in the Tram and staying for awhile. The hike was wonderful, got stunning photos, and then got great shots on the way down.

Disorganized and a wste of our day

By Jonna G |

We bought 4 tickets for the 1 to 3 time slots online since we were told thats what we needed to do.. When we arrived there at 1 there was a line to get your flight number and the people in that line were from the 11 oclock time slots. It was going to be 1 1/2 hours to get a flight. Very disorganized. No refunds allowed either

I'd Do It Again

By Traveler2AM |

I was my Best Experience in Albuquerque. The views both on the gondola and on the mountain top are beautiful. The ride itself is easy even for the faint of heart. The cable person is very informative. The gift shop at the top is a very nice one, as is the restaurant. There is large decks with seating to relax before return down the mountain.

Wow wow wow!!

By SteveK28762 |

Wow... how great is this? So glad we found this in advance of our trip. We could only book tickets the day before (varies with the weather) so we did and got the first car up on the day. Staff were really friendly and knowledgeable.
Well worth it... the views at the top are stunning. We could have stayed there for ages just enjoying those views. Beautiful Albuquerque.
You have to time your trip down as, with only 2 cable cars, miss one and it can be quite a wait.

Scenic Mountain Views& More

By Mixa's Travels |

The Aerial Tramway is great for seeing the mountain and views of Albuquerque. Pre purchasing tickets makes it easy. You purchase for a block of time to board and arrive in the time period. The trams depart approximately every 20 minutes. We were in the front left on the way up for some great views of the mountain and it’s rugged terrain. We mainly walked around the board walk area at the top. The restaurant was not open in our visit. Riding down we stayed on the left for views of the city. Two workers rode on top of the tram up and back. Now that is a great view and for some a bit scary. We enjoyed the tramway and saw some great rugged mountain scenery. Construction of the Aerial Tramway is impressive.

Great views from the Sandia Mountains over Albuquerque.

By Mike B |

Great views when the weather cooperates. VERY crowded during the Balloon Fiesta week but otherwise not too bad.

Great experience!

By Lacey C |

Well worth your time! We even saw a black bear below us while going up to the Peak.

Be SURE to buy tickets before you go. They don’t sell them there.

You can bring a picnic to eat at the top or you can eat at their restaurant. Keep in mind it’s 20° cooler up the Peak! Lots of nice hiking. Take your binoculars.

Awesome from start to finish

By Pat M |

Totally awesome ride and view from the top. It's COLD AND WINDY at the top so be prepared. Reasonable wait times. The restaurant looked interesting but did not fit in with our plans.

Fun, but it's all about the guide

By Angel C |

The views were lovely and it crazy to leave mid-50 temps on the ground to walking through snow and ice at the top! But what really made this a fun adventure was the tram guide on the way up. "Positive Terrance" was awesome! Upbeat, funny, informative and more. He made the ride up so much fun!

Lots of queues, crowded, nice views.

By Gotron Ferret |

This type of attraction is somewhat mandatory given its uniqueness for pretty much any tourist. However, that doesn't automatically make it a 5-star venue. Fortunately, we arrived during a relatively slower time and there weren't long lines, but that's totally to be expected during business times. As you have to queue up at least 4 separate times before you can get on the tramway.

But my biggest issue is that they pack everybody in there so you are basically shoulder to shoulder. While there are windows all around, anybody in the middle is going to miss out on the experience. Plus it makes it very stuffy, as the minimal venting isn't enough. They need to have at least half the number of people in those trams. I'd also highly recommend masks - regardless of pandemic status.

On the plus side, if you can get to a window, the views are great, and the in-person guided tour on the ride to the top is nice.

And of course, once you get to the top, it's views on views. And then back to more queues on queues to get back to the bottom in an equally crowded tram.

It's fine to do this once, as it's the touristy thing to do, but I certainly wouldn't do it again.

Skip During The Fiesta!

By Nikzleez |

Went during the week of the Fiesta as a non-balloon outing option. Purchased a 3-5pm times lot. Arrived at 2:55pm to a long line. Stood in line for about 2 hours straight and did not board until about 4:55pm. Staff were saying that all the 3pm-5pm people arrived at 3pm instead of staggering arrivals at 3:30, 4:00 etc. Nope! The lines got longer and longer during the 2 hour wait and by 4:15 or so the 5-7pm folks started arriving. Although the 3-5 guests had priority, there was no way to avoid waiting that long. Views were nice if you can get a window view. Fifteen minute ride up. Was so disgusted, if there was no line in the return we would have made a u-turn back. Not so fortunate. Walked around. Breathtaking views. Too tired to try a hike. Line back not as horrific...maybe 45minutes+. A few guest remarked that lines are NEVER this bad outside of the fiesta week....no waits. Don't waste your time unless you attend outside of fiesta week AND you are next in up to board once you arrive ie can walk right on.

Really cool to do

By MyersFamilyTravelers |

I had visited her many years ago, and when we planned this trip it was one of the things I wanted to do with the family. We had a great day to go up (the day before had encountered a thunderstorm and had to shelter.). The ride up is very cool and the scenery is incredible. We stayed at the top for about an hour (you could spend hours at the summit hiking various trails) and then took the ride down. Well worth the time.

Sunday at Sandia Peak

By Alma G |

The trip in the tramway was nice and the staff was friendly. I loved the views, it is an amazing hike to take photographs during the sunset, the weather was perfect, but it does get cold once the sun goes down. We will come back to eat at the restaurant it looked spectacular.

Fun way to see the city and experience the Sandia mountains!

By AdventureEveryday |

Although I was a tad nervous going up over 10k feet, the ride was smooth, educational, and enjoyable. The staff were all super nice. It was a gorgeous day, so I was able to get beautiful pictures of the city and great pictures of the mountains. Teams weren’t super full because it was off season, which just meant there was a little more room to move. Great experience. Definitely recommend.

Excellent trip up the peak.

By Ann Z |

Wonderful experience. Great views, employees were very knowledgeable and friendly. Great talk with Michael, got to pretty his dogs!!

Beautiful day up the mountain

By Joni H |

Sandia Peak is a beautiful mountain with rough terrain. You can experience it via hiking trails or by Gondola. The Gondola ride was amazing. The view was extraordinary and the distance the cable run between the towers is the longest in the world. The temp was a lot cooler from the top.
We enjoyed eating an early dinner in the restaurant bar, Ten3. The food was delicious and server was great. Maybe didn’t have enough help in the kitchen as the meal took longer than usual.
The ski area is at the top also. Trails run out into the woods and hills from there as well, but all were closed when we were there because of fire risk.
So, besides the ride and the view, having a drink or meal, there wasn’t anything else to do at the top.
But we enjoyed the ride and the visit anyway. It was just a beautiful day.

Like a little visit to Switzerland.

By George D |

A very cool trip up to the 10-3 restaurant. You might have to wait in line a long time to get in. However if you have a confirmed reservation at the restaurant, you can skip the line. Great scenery on the way up, a view of city lights at night on the way down. Each way is about 15 minutes. Wear warm clothing, it's cold up there.

Safe nice ride!

By ruralgourmet |

A Friday morning tram was about 30 souls full by 10:00 am.  The young staff riding our tram was fun.  He really gave us lots of areas to look at and gave historical perspective of.   He told numerous "jokes" and he personally laughed at each one too.  What a really sweet 15 min ride "up" to the observation area of the Sandia Mountains.  Not to be outdone but the ride "down"  the tramway had maybe 10 of us and our staff was Terrence.  Terrance has been an employee for 6 years and he was funny, charming and thoroughly excited when he pointed out the two tram maintenance workers riding on top of the ascending tram and climbing on to the tram tower to grease the cables.  It was exciting to him and for us. The views from the top of Sandia can not be missed.  The trams were clean and safe.

A “Must Do” in Albuquerque

By sharrongeg |

Loved this tram tour! It took about 25 minutes to drive to the tram station from our downtown hotel (Doubletree). Best to order tickets on-line….but big caveat…you can only reserve 24 hours ahead of time. Price was about $25 per person.

Check in was quick and easy. Trams run about every 20 minutes and it takes about 15 to reach the peak (10,378 feet). At the top there is a fine dining restaurant, but it was not open our visit. Not to much to do on top beyond look at the view and walk around a bit.

Absolutely a “must do” while in this area.

Tram in Albuquerque, NN

By travelri |

The tram in NM is awesome. The price for seniors with tax was $34 but well worth it. The tram runs about every 15 minutes. The views are great. There is a restaurant at the top but a little pricy. There is a gift shop at the entrance . I would definitely recommend the tram.

Awesome time

By Iggy S |

Amazing views we stayed an extra day so that we can go because they’re closed on Tuesday because we did not want to miss this.

Amazing scenery

By Ellen B |

Went on a Wednesday in late August. I got on one of the first trams to the top, the ride takes about 15 minutes and gives great views of the valley as you rise. At the top get the color coded map, it’s the better trail guide. Head toward the restaurant, but go down the stairs to the right to pick up the trails. I hiked to Kiwanis Cabin then picked up Crest trail to just beyond the far side of Kiwanis meadow before turning around to head back. Not hard trails and they are well marked. You’ll need a lot of water and snacks and bring a jacket - it was 50 at the top at 9 am

Beautiful views!

By Leslie F |

Beautiful views! Good food at the top, too, in the restaurant. Totally worth the trip! Would highly recommend!

Up Up and Away!!

By Donovan C |

The views are spectacular as ascend and descend the Sandia Mountains!! If you are in Albuquerque this is a must do!! The lines aren't bad, but everything is done on line, so but your tickets ahead of time because you can't do it there.

A must do when visiting Albuquerque

By teenakay51 |

This is a very unique experience. The views from the tram were beautiful. We were pretty packed in. Even with everyone wearing masks, I was a little nervous.
We had a guide that kept us laughing as he pointed out features of the mountains. Nice trails at the top.

Very cool

By Julia A |

Great views, awesome casual dining. Check out the trails. Didn't give it five stars because it didn't blow my mind - but it's a cool experience. Kids would love it.

Good place to visit with family and kids

By srikanth0435 |

Tram experience is very nice. Temperature on top is very cool than bottom area, so jackets are mandatory. We made a mistake of not taking the jackets looking at the lower area temps. There was little snow for kids to play.

DO NOT drink the hot chocolate in the top of the mountain Ten3 restaurant. Its very bad and tastes like water.

Amazing

By Brett F |

It was a wonderful experience. Beautiful views. Staff was great. Definitely recommend. Hiking trails weren’t too difficult and we’re clearly marked.

Must do!

By hoopermm |

Absolutely fun place to visit, tram ride was beautiful and very scenic. Dinner at the top of the mountain, Ten3 Restaurant, was exquisite. Met a pot of nice folks from all over the world. Super fun experience.
***Watch out for the “security” gentleman at the entry gate… likes to yell at everyone going through. Even tells people to leave and come back when they have a restaurant reservation (don’t listen to him). Common theme chatting with the folks on the mountain.

If you have motion or mobility problems you need to read this

By Minnesota42 |

The round trip is a little expensive. Everything said that you had to buy the tickets online, which we did, but it turned out you could buy them there as well. Be aware that the trip is similar to standing in an elevator. There is one small bench in the car for about 3 adults, so if balance is a problem get on at the front of the line so you can sit. The views are amazing. It would have been fun to have a drink and a bite at the 10 3 restaurant/lounge at the top, but my partner was not feeling well from standing during the ascent, so we went back down.

Scary fun

By metalking |

Be sure and make a reservation before traveling. The Tram ride is very cool but may be frightening to some. The ride is slow and the view unfolds before you. There is a restaurant and hiking trails at the peak.

View from the Top

By riceland |

The cost is$39 for a 15 gondola ride to the mountain top where you can hike or eat (if restaurant is open). Restaurant at sunset probably nice. If you are not eating or hiking I would probably skip the ride and spend time and money on something else.

You Need to do this

By Scott M |

We had a chance to take the Tram on our last day in NM - while it was overcast and cold it was totally worth it. The views we were able to see before reaching the cloudline were incredible and then we got to the top and were greeted with 32 degrees and 6 inches of snow (we had left 54 degrees down below). Plan ahead and dress accordingly so you can actually spend a few minutes outside.

We plan to definitely go back again on our next visit and dine at the Fine Dining section of their Mountain-Top Restaruant.

Amazing views!

By brentdamer |

We had a great time! Incredible views! Hiked late afternoon/evening and saw the beautiful sunset. The ride down was beautiful seeing the city lights. Highly recommend!

Sandia Peak Tramway is a Must Do in Pretty Weather

By Chris F |

Tram trip is well worth the $30 per ticket price. Takes about 15 minutes to traverse each direction in a fully enclosed tram car and the top is over 10,000 feet. Beautiful native New Mexico scenery all around. 1 restaurant at the top. Each car holds about 30 people and if you wait to catch the sunset like we did, your wait time to come down could be up to 2 hours. Take at least a light jacket and bottle of water to stay warm and hydrated. Several walking trails and we were lucky to get to see a para glider take off from the top. Beautiful sights and full view of Albuquerque from the top. Sunset was pretty but with no clouds to bounce the reflection off, it wasn’t spectacular. It was dark when we came down so you did get a pretty view of Albuquerque at night.

Bucket List!!

By Colleen C |

The Sandia Peak Tramway is still the longest aerial tramway in the world and tops at the elevation of 10,378 feet. The tram takes you up almost 4,000ft. in only 15 mins. From the top you can see 9% of the state of New Mexico and that's of a cloudy day! There is limited seating in the tram cars ~ one bench ~ it is limited to the amount of tickets sold for the trams so even trough it's mostly standing in the tram you will not feel crowded.

It cost $29* for a round way trip ~ if you want to either hike up or down this 4,000ft. mountain you can since they do offer a one way option -from either direction for $18* {(*Adult prices) kids/senior/military $24 round ~ $18 one way}

At the top there is a cool chic restaurant called "Ten 3"- we went up had a single drink (since the altitude makes you feel it x2) and a little snack before going back down to the base where you can also find a store!

Great views from the tram & the peak

By Shoshana & Mich... W |

A fun ride hundreds of feet above the ground to beautiful views from the Sandia Peak. Trails for hikers of many levels go out from the peak.

A must do for Albuquerque / save $ and buy tickets online

By Stephen K |

Remember the temperature will be at least 20 degrees cooler at the top, so dress appropriately. Don’t get stuck in the middle, so get in the front of the boarding line. On the way up, move to the left and face the mountain. On the way down, move to the right in the front (standing in front of the tram operator). Don’t forget to purchase tickets in advance and save a few $.

Sometimes nature wins

By Tammy M |

First and foremost, thank you to the staff for being conscious of patron safety and not sending teams up in lightning. When we did get to go up the next day, the team operator was hilarious. The view from the tram was phenomenal. Unfortunately, we ended up on a cloudy peak. Nature, am I right? Still was worth the trip up though!

Beautiful Views!

By Tami H |

We bought tickets for a Monday trip and had a very short wait. Dress for the weather at the top - 15-20 degrees cooler than at the bottom. Give your self time to hike and explore the beautiful area at the top! Absolutely beautiful views! Our tram operator was entertaining and informative on the way up. A great trip!

Great family activity

By Jackie J |

Last time I rode the tram I was a child. I wanted to share this experience with my kids as an adult. So we reserved tickets online and got directions for the parking lot. It was very easy to get there and board. The guides were knowledgeable and kind. Once at the top we spent time wandering around the ski lift area, but not venturing to far as the last ride down was only an hour or so away. The crisp air was a welcome feeling from the heat in the valley. Watching the sun set was a blissful experience. Lots of photo opportunities and remember to bring a jacket.

RIP OFF

By Brandi P |

DON'T DO IT!!! This was a horrible experience and it was not an isolated incident!!! It is sad how poorly run this is, they need new management! They oversell tickets and, in our case, they had people from the day before coming as well because it went down the day before and they would not give those patrons refunds!. The management will do NOTHING to make it right. The manager Michael Donovan literally accused us of lying about our experience and hung up on me. As you can see from other reviews, Jessica F. will just thank me for a review and say she is sorry.

We bought our tickets the day before for the 5-8pm window and we arrived early around 4:30pm because the website says it can be up to an hour wait.
We stood in the line for an hour and there was no movement, so I checked in with guest services who assured us that they were taking care of the problem and reminded us there were NO REFUNDS. We witnessed several very upset groups of people.
We waited another hour and the line had hardly moved, so we checked in with guest services again. We expressed our concern that the sun was going down and we did not want to go up in the dark. They again told us there were NO REFUNDS and that it would still be a spectacular view at night.
We finally made it onto the tram after 7:30pm. They cram 50 people into each one, by the way, so don't expect to be comfortable for the standing 15 minute ride.
It was pitch black dark all the way up, we couldn't see a thing. I am deathly afraid of heights, but an adrenaline junkie and.....nothing. I couldn't see anything. They don't even have lights along the path to help with some kind of visual at that time of night. The staff taking you up is supposed to talk to you about the tram and Sandia, but that didn't happen, probably because she couldn't see to talk about anything.
We finally get up to the top and the average person can not get good pics because either you can see the people or you can see the background, not both, its too dark. Not that great of a view to see city lights from far away. I can see that in San Antonio, TX at the Tower of the Americas.
We were all starving because, at this point we had not eaten since before 4pm so we head to the casual restaurant and it is CLOSED. Then we headed to the bathrooms and they were CLOSED!!!!! How do you close the bathrooms with people up there and more were coming up.
We decided we had enough and headed to go back down and the line was going out the door. My elderly mother had started to get altitude sickness and there was no one there to help. It took us over 1 1/2 hours to get back down. There was no food, no bathrooms, and we were stuck outside most of that time freezing, it was in the 40s.
Once you buy the tickets they hold you captive and don't care what kind of experience you have.
I am having to dispute the charges with my credit card company because this is not what I paid for. This wasted so much of our time and there were lots of other things we could have done instead.

DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK! THEY WILL NOT VOLUNTARILY GIVE YOU A REFUND!

Potential Views at a Guaranteed Price

By Sean |

I would certainly recommend it at least once, but I'm not sure I'd do it again based on the price.

The views are amazing, if you can manage to secure a spot near the edge of the tramcar. Upwards of 30-40 people can and will be crammed into a single tram, so it isn't exactly the most comfortable of experiences. However, if you manage to find yourself near the edge, it is absolutely breathtaking.

But, as breathtaking as the views may be, the risk of simply being shoved into the center of the car arise not worth the $30+ tickets per adult. If you need to get to the top of the mountain for hiking or meal reservations, it still probably beats out the 9-hour hike up the mountain though.

Exciting adventure! You'll never forget! A perfect family get-away.

By MJ T |

One-of-a-kind experience! It's a GREAT experience for everyone. Highly recommended to do when in Albuquerque.

It also has a good and cheap place restaurant 10-3 (10,378 ft elevation). We had a great time! The scenic view of the mountains, terrain is AWESOME!

Just bring a light jacket, it gets windy up there.

Loved it!!!

By Joan F |

The scenery was so spectacular that I loved this experience. It is the longest tram ride in distance as well as without support between two very separate posts. Don’t worry, the ride was really smooth and they even carry water beneath the tram for ballast on windy days. The conductor pointed out interesting features and described the animal life. From the top there was a 360 degree view of the surroundings. We hiked a bit among pretty wildflowers. What a great start to our Albuquerque vacation!

Fantastic ride to the top

By Victoria |

My sister was visiting from NC. she had been on the tram 20 yrs ago so to get to go again was a highlight of her visit. The man going up and the woman going back down were so pleasant and had all kinds of interesting information. We took the tram going to the new resturant at the top-TEN 3. We went after Thanksgiving and it was really cold, but we had a wonderful time. Highly recommend it!

Longest Aerial Tram in North America

By Anthony I |

It takes 15 minutes either way to arrive at the top. You are rewarded with 360 views of Albuquerque and beyond. We went during sunset it was an Amazing site.

Loved the tram!

By TeriBfromSeattle |

I loved this experience! The people working there were nice (and also btw talked a person who was completely unprepared with small children from hiking the 10 miles back down when there was still some snow on the ground). It was a beautiful day! The ride is enjoyable even when it's a bit windy and the views are great! Plan to hike around when you get to the top, but bring a jacket for sure. Highly recommended for your visit!

What a View!!

By Carl S |

The trip up Sandia Peak is amazing because of both the view and the engineering feat. And the view from the top is just amazing.

SKIP IT! Drive.

By TxAriel |

Skip this!!
Drive instead- 40 oversized, close contact inconsiderate people, no window view, 15 min if misery for $30.
Terrible.
We drove it- was much better!!

Great views and fun ride

By Kelsey P |

Very cool experience and a must-do in Albuquerque! We went for the sunset and walked right onto the tram going up. Beautiful views and a lovely sunset - but do bring a coat. On the way down we had to wait about 45 mins so also bring your patience. We had the same operator up and down and she was Very Funny. Highly recommend!

Overpriced but stunning views

By coolmammaa |

4 starts bc it could be half of the price. $20 is more than enough
There is a restaurant on the top, which they recommend reservations

The views are stunning

The views were breath taking

By Nancy D |

We timed it to see sunset on top of the mountain. Be aware you ride standing up in a very crowded tram car. There is no heat and some of the windows are kept open. We dressed for the late November weather. There was snow at higher elevations. This was a fantastic experience. When night falls, you see all the lights from down below.

I only rate 4 stars because the casual dining experience was less than what we hoped for. Our food came out for 8 people at widely spaced intervals, some of the orders were wrong, and we had one person who asked for gluten free and her request was ignored even though the menu says 'just ask your server'. The server refused to let us speak to the manager. We ate and left very unsatisfied with the service. I cannot speak to the dining side that requires reservations.

Must do Albuquerque experience

By Susan M |

Amazing view. Tram operator informational talk. Friendly staff. You have to wait in line with no where to sit. Asthmatic people may have trouble. Great Albuquerque experience.

Spectacular scenery

By PTCtravelerJO |

The ride on the tramway to the Sandia Peak was such a scenic, beautiful ride! It takes about 15 minutes or so and the guide talks about the various peaks and canyons as you ascend. At the top you have as long as you choose to take in the scenery or go for short hikes. And of course being able to see the sunset is a must!

Beautiful Scenery

By kimmielou |

We bought tickets for the 5pm tram but didn't get on until 6ish; the line was very long, but most people were smart and wore masks. Once to the top, the views were beautiful, as it was approaching sunset. There is a bar at the top so you can enjoy a drink, but beware--its VERY windy and cold at the top. Some people were in shorts and no coats.

Fantastic Afternoon and lunch spot

By Trip4AWeekend |

This was a great experience. The ride up is spectacular and it is calm and quiet at the top. The views are breathtaking and I am glad I went, even though I am scared of heights. It was worth it. I had a beer when I got to the top to settle my nerves.

Very Worthwhile!!!

By Frances D |

Other than being very crowded into the team, it was a great way to see the scenery. Guide was personable and shared information & good stories.
Though they did provide us masks, I would have been much more comfortable and felt much more safe if they would have spread the groups out a bit more. I wouldn’t have minded waiting a bit longer in order to be safer.
This ride was well worth the cost and time spent! I would definitely do it again.

Definitely a High Point of the trip!

By Marc A |

Worth every penny and the time. Breathtaking views amazing nature trails and just overall an excellent experience. If you love nature and views this is for you!!

Amazing!

By Marsha S |

We started our day just soaking in the views and then had a great lunch at the restaurant. Food was great and so were the drinks. We hit a hiccup when we tried to leave because of high winds and were stuck at the top. I need to say how wonderful the staff was during this time, especially Positive Terrance. He did everything he could to make sure we were ok and got us down safely. Thank you Posi! So many memories made.

Incredible

By Valeria R |

One of the best and unforgettable tours! It is worth it! Just when you think it's over, another batch of beauty comes along! One "woohoo" after another! I loved it and Indian!

A great way to spend a few hours.

By Mary P |

Absolutely beautiful. Lots of trails to hike once on the top of the mountain. Great opportunity for scenic pictures.. Had lunch at the restaurant. Fantastic gluten free food. Service was excellent. A must see when going to ABQ.

Fun ride up and great views all around

By Xenon |

The ride up is fun and impressive as you come over the second tower.
The top is pretty cool to look around.
The ride down is fun too.

Now, we were there between Christmas and New Years, so the lines were super long. We waited two hours ( our entire allotted window) to get on the tram. That was disappointing since it messed up the rest of the day's plans.

Covid positive and no refund

By Debi |

Purchased 2 tickets but the day we were supposed to go had a positive Covid test. We requested a refund due we live in NC and would not be in the area later to use them. I guess they wanted us to come anyway and expose others to Covid.

A must do!

By TxSimm |

Great experience with beautiful views! Sadly, but understandably, due to the extreme fire danger, the trails at the top are closed, so it was a little limited in what you can do. Keon (I think that’s his name) was our operator and was super friendly and interesting. I also appreciated the distraction as the ride is a little long and for me, made me a little nervous, so having him talk was helpful!

Great Tramway!

By Dainius S |

It was amazing. Beautiful place! The Sandia Tramway up to the top of the mountain is a just beautiful and stunning view of the mountains and Albuquerque as a whole metropolitan area. If you're a tourist, this is a great thing to do for at least 2 or 3 hours.

Worth paying for the view

By MChods |

Went to visit friends in Albuquerque and they insisted that we go up on the Sandia Peak Tram. I am so glad that we did. It was an absolutely stunning ride up to the top of the 10,000+ foot peak with beautiful views of Albuquerque and the mountains in the distance. There was plenty of snow at the top and it made the photos even better. The guides on the tram gave a little bit of history about the area. We were also really lucky to see a pair of bald eagles on the way back down. As you can imagine, there is a gift shop and also a lounge/restaurant up at the top of the mountain. Prices were a bit high, but we didn’t plan on eating there anyhow. This was all about the pretty views. The $29 tram ticket was worth it.

47 people per tram

By Huck J |

47 people per tram. Did Not seem Covid safe. They had trouble enforcing mask rules. R do not recommend this if you are in a risk category.

A must do!

By dulcevida2003 |

Amazing visit! Anyone visiting the area must do this! Easy to find. Lots of parking. Buy tickets online ahead of time. The trip up the mountain takes about 15 minutes and the same for the return. Views from the peak were incredible.

Must Do Attraction

By William W |

This was our second time to take the tram to the top of the peak. First was a long time ago with our children. It's as exciting a ride as we remembered. The views from the top are fantastic. Put it on your bucket list folks.

What, no Social Distancing?

By Jack R |

I was horrified the way that that the tram operators crammed so many people onto one tram during a pandemic. I felt like a sardine as did my family. Sure, they require masks, but was good does that do when so many people are packed so tightly on board, no regard for social distancing. Something should be done to protect those on board the tram and allow for social distancing. Wouldn't recommend until pandemic has subsided or until social distancing can be provided. Beware

Pure fun

By KiminGranCouva |

I booked a ticket the day before and the couple who went with me was able to buy on the spot and to get on the same tram. The trip up and back gave a vantage point over the city and the mesa west of Albuquerque. The ride was thrilling and smooth, and the tram operator give a delightful and fun narration on the history, the fauna, and pointed out several striking and interesting rock and land formations, as we ascended. The view from the top was unparalleled. One could see 30 miles away to the east and as it was a clear summer day it was magical. The descent was as thrilling, so that one could see why this is considered one of the top experiences for visitors to ABQ.

Expensive. Enjoyable. But is it worth it?

By BrooklynRider |

This is not a cheap attraction, but it is the only way to the. Ten30 Restaurant. The Tram offers a unique glimpse of the mountain and is worth the ride; yet, it is still a challenge to justify the cost. We thought we ‘d have the fee discounted or even validated and refunded as restaurant customers. The views were stunning. The restaurant top-notch. The same experience can be had driving up to Sandia Crest on the east side of the mountain.

Once is enough

By Robin |

Views were great; be ready to stand in line for about 90 minutes before you ascend and 90 minutes again on the way back down. Not everyone has a view from inside the tram because of how many passengers are on

Best view of the city

By Daydream153972 |

Amazing views at the top. Food was great too. Staff friendly and helpful with any questions. Trails were very good too.

Great view

By Tom W |

They pack as many people into the tram as possible, which certainly isn't ideal during a pandemic (although everyone is masked). The ride up had several long delays because they were doing maintenance, but the ride back down was quick. Tip: Try to be among the first passengers in so that you can get up front on in back. If you're in the middle, you won't have much of a view and you won't get much fresh air from the tiny windows near the top.

Great views

By Verne K |

Nearly an hour wait even with reservations. Packed like sardines on way up and nearly so on return trip. Not idea in a high COVID even with required masks. Great view from top, but windy and cold. Fine looking restaurant at top, which requires reservations.

Nice views

By Gautam R |

We reserved a morning time slot (9-11) and we able to get on the tram without a wait. The car was packed! If you are one who values social distancing, this is not for you. 50 maskless people in each other’s faces in a closed car. The rides up and down are nice, if you have a window spot. If you are stuck in the middle, it is just OK. The guides are excellent - good information and jokes.

Take a jacket, as it is cool and windy.

Unfortunately, ALL the trails are closed due to fire restrictions. So, the view is nice, but you are limited to a 40 foot area from the stopping point. It is a shame they cannot open a portion of some of the trails.

We did not eat at the restaurant. Because there is no hiking, you spend 20-30 min at the top taking photos and then come back down.

For $29 round trip, it is probably worth it.

Amazing find!

By Tamieko B |

Even if you are afraid of heights, you can’t go wrong with this amazing tour. You are secured in a closed off tram. It wasn’t as cold because the windows were closed. The views were breathtaking! You have enough room to actually stand at a window and take plenty of pictures. The cost is very reasonable. This was amazing!

Great views

By tleeEvans |

Went up on July 4th on the first tram of the day. Chose the tickets time of 9-11 am which means you can arrive at the tram center between those times. Bring a jacket or sweater as it is a lot cooler at the top. Views are incredible. There is a restaurant up on top but it was not open at the time we were there. Plenty of walking trails which have just recently reopened. Once on top you can stay as long as you like. It was well worth the money. Staff all very nice and knowledgeable. Areas very clean

Don’t go without reservation in restaurant. Waited one hour and a half standing and should have left.

By noemir493 |

Don’t wait the long line and get into the sardine box tram with no space to breathe. Nothing to eat except garbage at the top. Restaurant completely booked : empty tables but still were kicked out saying that there was nothing available. Only machine garbage and no shade to sit and enjoy the view. The tram was so full I could not enjoy the Mountain View.

Great place for an amazing view of Albuquerque, New Mexico’s largest city and the surrounding country side!

By Deon K |

Me and my son were lucky to have the opportunity on a clear but cold day to take to cable tramway to the top of Sandia Peak! What a great view! Amazing viewpoints and views in all directions. This is something all visitors to Albuquerque should do.

The Views are Absolutely Incredible!!!

By Xoel |

The Sandia Peak Tramway is a must-see experience in Albuquerque! The 15-minute tram ride to the top is smooth and packed with stunning panoramic views—perfect for photos and soaking in the beauty of New Mexico.

Once at the summit, the views are absolutely incredible. There are several trails up there as well, so if you’re into hiking or just want to explore, be sure to set aside enough time. It’s about 30 degrees cooler at the top, so if you’re sensitive to cold, dress accordingly—it can get chilly even in warmer months.

There’s also a restaurant at the summit. I didn’t dine there, but I’ve heard amazing things about the food. Just make sure to book reservations in advance or arrive early—it gets busy fast.

Overall, a memorable, scenic, and unique adventure. Highly recommended!

We had a nice time on the Tram and the view was great. We had to wait about 15 minutes, but it was under a shelter. Not much to do once you are on top, but I would recommend this activity!

A trip to the heights of Albuquerque

By coati1602 |

In the afternoon, the road map included going to see SANDIA PEAK in Albuquerque: it is a very high mountain accessible on foot (8 km) or by cable car (called tramway). Unfortunately the wind is very strong this afternoon and the tram remains at the platform.

we decide to return to SANDIA PEAK. We are there 15 minutes before the first departure, and phew, no wind. Awesome.
$63 for the two of us. Fortunately we are seniors AND we therefore pay 60 dollars, plus this famous tax.
At 9 a.m. departure of the 1st journey to the heights; there were only a small handful of people going up and down.
The 2nd and 3rd trips were already armored; we were able to enjoy the landscape but what surprised us the most was when the doors opened at the end of the route: a freezing cold cut us in two.
In fact it was 0 degrees with snow on the stairs and in various non-sunny places.
We were freezing even though we had each taken our own sweatshirt - we went back downstairs; the outward and return journeys take 20 minutes and the landscapes are impressive.

Don’t Miss this in Albuquerque

By Wayne M |

An awesome experience! The views were sublime and the tram operator and guide was entertaining and informative. The restaurant at the top served excellent food, but make to get your name in early if you want to catch the sunset.

Disappointing

By Rebecca |

Arrived at start of our allotted time frame which was 5pm to 8pm. After two hours we still were not seated on the tram. The sun had already set by this time, so our plans to enjoy the views and the hiking trails sunk like the Titanic. We were told by staff that the view of the city lights in Albuquerque were what we would see, but nothing else to do as restaurant was full, and hiking a mountain in pitch darkness seemed foolish and fraught with danger. I also pointed out that we can see the city lights from the Sandia foothills for free, and dont have to wait 2 hours for that pleasure. Staff also could not state how long the wait would be to be brought back down, and we wanted to go to dinner before restaurants closed (9pm in ABQ). We asked if we could use our tickets another day and were told yes, if after balloon festival ends. The official end of balloon fest is listed as Sunday October 9th so we asked if we could come on Monday 10th. Staff said "no" because that day is still officially counted as balloon fest. By whom, exactly? Not the balloon fest itinerary, it seems. Just the staff at Tramway. If I wanted to see the night lights of ABQ I could simply climb onto my roof after dark and see them for free. I dont need to burn gas, stand for 2 hours, and pay nearly $100 for myself and my two guests to look at at the night time. Sandia Tramway should refund or reschedule, not keep customers' money when they did not provide the service in a timely fashion. My two guests had been looking forward to seeing the views and hiking the trails, and now they feel as if they have been cheated out of their money. Tramway ought to be fair and do the right thing!

Spectacular Views!

By Jennifer G |

This is a must do attraction if you are in Albuquerque. You need to buy your tickets online in advance. The ride up was amazing. Chris, our guide, gave us some history on the way up. Once you got up to the top, the views were amazing! There were trails you could walk around if you wanted to or just sit up at the top and enjoy the views. Make sure to bring a jacket or coat since it’s about 20 degrees cooler at the top. They also have a restaurant if you are interested in eating up there – we didn’t though. You can stay up at the top as long as you want. They have two trams that run constantly.

Skip week between Christmas and NY!

By Jeanne V |

I can’t say they didn’t warn us on the website. It said if we were booking during the holiday week, there could be a one and a half to two hour wait even though we booked the tram for the 5 PM block and arrived at 4:30 PM we did not board until 6:30 PM And we missed the sunset. Well we saw it from the sidewalk at the base I guess so they’re not kidding when they mean there’s gonna be a wait during the holiday week. It was cold. It was long and the tram ride was dark other than some beautiful city lights which my kids claim they’ve seen from airplanes before it was not worth the wait. Definitely would’ve been better in daylight hours to be able to see the canyons, etc. I do have to commend the tram operators. They’re extremely professional and well trained. There were high winds and they were very cautious.. As a professional airline pilot I was very impressed with their ability and training.

Amazing views

We took the tram to the top, took amazing photos and then came back down in the tram. We did not visit the restaurant due to our time constraints. We had a 9-11 AM reservation and arrived just before 11 AM. We waited in a shaded line for about 30 minutes. There was only about a 10 minute wait for the tram going back down. The trams were packed full; masks were required. The tram operator shared interesting informaiton on the way up. The site is easy to find and there is plenty of parking. I highly recommed this activity; take time to explore at the top.

Loved it

Awesome tram ride. Take a coat it is cold at the top. Us and another couple went and we all loved it. We'd been there 37 years before also.

Unable to enjoy it

Rode up and sat down for an early dinner. Within 10 minutes were informed everything was shutting down due to wind and ushered back down. Understand safety but our refund request was immediately denied. Avoid this tourist trap.

Nightmare! Wasted hours of our Vacation

By Baby Y |

Our decision to book this tram ride ruined our whole vacation. I really cannot recommend you DON’T DO the tram enough. We hit to the tram early allowing plenty of time knowing it was a very busy time of year for them. We planned up to an hour wait time but ended up waiting in line an hour and a half to get onto the tram. We were hoping to see the sun go down at the top but it took way to look of a wait so that wasn’t possible.

They loaded so many people onto the tram (I believe 40 people) that we could barely move without hitting anyone. It was like being sardines in a tin no joke. I tried my hardest to keep my hands as flat as I could against my sides so I wouldn’t bump anyone. I’m handicapped and there was only one seat on the tram and the seat was taken immediately. I could not see any of the view as I’m short and could not see out a single window with all the people. My boyfriend is much taller and also could not see out the windows.

The whole point of going on a tram is to view the beautiful view.. as soon as we got to the top the restaurant was closing in 10 minutes of when we arrived. We immediately ran over to the restaurant and were in the front of the line to get in but we were next in line when the host came out and said the restaurant was at capacity and we could not even go to the bar. We just wanted to grab a quick drink at the bar! The line was so long to go back down the mountain we decided just to get right back in line to go back down since our experience was so bad.

It took over an hour and a half for us waiting in line just to get back on the tram to go back down the mountain. By the time we got to the bottom of the mountain it had taken so long in lines there and back that we missed our dinner reservations we had planned for us when we got back off the mountain down below in town. We wasted hours of our vacation just waiting in line and it was a huge waste of money and our time. We were so sad we ever went on the tram. By the time we got home all the rest were closed or closing. It ruined our entire night and we regretted doing the tram so much.

Quite the thrill

We took the Sandia Peak Tramway up to the top....a bit apprehensive due to the packed gondola car ( social distancing ???)...but it was a great ride & the top of the peak was breath taking . did not get a chance to try the restaurant at the top, but maybe next time. Great attrection !!

.Long lines leading to an overcrowded, hot and pungent ride

By GlobalSicilian |

Hot, over-crowded, expensive. Avoid peak times such as weekends and warm weather (around here that means March-November) if you want a pleasant experience. A Tuesday morning in the middle of winter would be ideal. If you can beat the crowds, the experience will be memorable. Gliding up and down the mountainside, looking down on hawks as they soar, If you can't beat the crowds, do yourself a favor: drive up the back side of the Sandias and avoid the whole unpleasant mess.

What a view!

Lovely trip and an even lovelier dinner at the restaurant at the peak!
It was a bit windy at the top but we are so grateful it wasn’t too windy to shut down (which they said can happen).

The Sandia Peak Tram Ride is an excellent stop while in ABQ!

While in Albuquerque, the Sandia Peak Tram Ride is well worth the stop! We got there when they opened, so the place was not overly crowded. The ride up and back down was well worth the sites! The mountain views were incredible, and the guide was very knowledgeable describing everything we were seeing and the history of the area.

A must visit attraction in Albuquerque

Sandia Peak Tramway claims to be North America's longest aerial tram ride, and it definitely feels long! It provides an excellent way to see the mountain views of Albuquerque. You'll need an advance reservation (which you should be able to purchase online the same day) before showing up to the tramway. There was a line to get in to the tram when we visited on the fourth of July weekend, the trams depart every 20 minutes or so. While the tram was slightly crowded, the tram operator was very knowledgeable and extremely funny. Unfortunately forgot his name, but he delieverd a blend of facts and jokes, with some fantastic skill. He made our ride up on the tram very memorable. Not to mention the views while riding up on the tramway - there are majestic mountains on all sides and makes for some stupenduous views when moving up or down on the tramway. They have a number of warning signs about how the weather is around 15-20 degrees cooler above the mountains than at the point where you get on to the tramway, so getting a light jacket would be recommended. The views from the top, after getting off the tram are magnificent as well - there are some opportunities to get some beautiful photographs of the tram cars against the backdrop of the mountains at the top. There was not much wait time to get on the tramway back from the top. There are a number of trails to hike at the top of the mountain, but we didn't explore any. There is a little gift shop at the base which we visited after we came back down on the tram. A visit made memorable by some stunning views of the mesa and mountains, and a tram ride to slowly soak in the majesty of the scenery around Albuquerque. Oh, and also a tram operator who I hope, will scale greater heights (pun intended!)

High in the sky

Breath taking views, knowledge staff, explained rock formations along the way and history of the tram and area. The top was windy and you could hike several trails if so inclined we did not the trams run every 15 minutes, well organized.

Could be fantastic

By Dawn G |

Could have been awesome, but wasn’t.

Why on earth is it necessary to CRAM so many (50) people into the tram?
Oh, that’s right, $$.

There was NO WAY to see anything if you were wedged in the middle, looking into the head of a complete stranger.

Then, once at the top … no outside heaters/tables for folks to sit and enjoy a beverage/snack. No room in the ‘restaurant/bar’. Overheard one young dad be told he couldn’t bring his child into the bar to get a hot chocolate!

The only reason I am giving this two stars is because the young kid ‘manning/narrating’ inside the tram was funny AND, after waiting for two trams to return down the mountain, so we could be first in line and get a good view, it was a good view.

If you go, make sure you are one of the 15 people in the beginning of the line, or you’re wasting your time.

A bit pricey for what it is, however the tram ride up shows gorgeous views of the Sandias. Plus there’s a very nice gift shop

Tram to the Sandia Peak

Took the Sandia Tramway to Sandia Peak and it did not disappoint...the views of Albuquerque and surrounding areas was spectacular!!

Awesome Experience!

By BrianGinCincy |

This is our first visit to ABQ and we decided to experience the Tramway at the last minute. We purchased 4 tickets online, which was very easy. We were among the first to arrive and took the first tram of the day around 9a. Again, this was a very easy process. Once inside, the ride to the top was spectacular. Our guide was friendly and cheerful and full of good information.

Once at the top...just, wow! My wife (50) and I (51) were joined by our two daughters (20 & 18) and we all enjoy the outdoors. Look, this isn't a roller coaster, an amusement park or a 5-star resort. It's actually much better. We soaked in the views and took lots of pics. Most importantly, we walked down the La Luz trail a few hundred yards and stopped to smell the roses, er, the trees. The fresh, crisp morning air, the intoxicating smell of fir trees, the birds singing and the spectacular views made for an incredible experience. We just sat on the rocks along the trail for several minutes at a time and enjoyed the sensory experience.

If you'd like to see and feel nature while clearing your mind of life's complications, then this is for you. If you need a 3-ring circus to hold your attention or you want a luxury experience that pampers you, then this probably isn't your best option. Slow down, people. There's so much to enjoy. Close your eyes and breathe. There's so much to be happy about. This is one of those things.
