SARATOGA SPA CHAMPIONSHIP GOLF COURSE

By Harry G |

I have played at the Championship course off and on for over 40 years, and it is a beautifully laid out and routed golf course that puts all your challenges right in front of you. You can see what you have to do...no tricks or surprises. It is a genuinely wonderful course....that needs some serious attention. The course does get heavy play during the summer so they keep the greens longer than most other courses, to save on wear and tear. That's fine, but it would be nice once in a while, when the heaviest part of the season is over, to cut them down a little and give them some speed. The tee boxes need some help too. They have ample room to enlarge them so they can move the tees around and let them get so beat up. But it is a beautiful setting and a historic site...if you want to play golf in Saratoga, then try the Championship course at the the State Park. It is a great test.

Great Park

By Ruth F |

The park, just south of the city, has something for everyone. Biking, walking and hiking trails, two swimming pools, picnic areas, golf courses. The famous Gideon Putnam Hotel is located in the park as well as the Saratoga Auto Museum and the famous baths. Learn about history while enjoying the outdoors.

Snow Shoeing in February

By Cindy J |

We went to the Admin. building and was greeted by very nice people. The snow shoes are only $5.00/4 hrs.

Great job by Ken

By Rachel W |

We jumped into a tour being given by Ken around to the springs in the park. It was so interesting and we are glad we ended up following the group. Ken did a fantastic job of explaining everything to everyone, and it made me want to come back to spend more time on another day. Great job!

Great time in nature!

By LostInParadise6 |

We went for the mineral springs and enjoyed touring the state park very much! So much history and amazing buildings.

Easy to moderate hikes throughout the park.

By stephensW5608GK |

Hiking for all ability levels. Various trails in sun or shade. Saratoga Performing Arts Center on site. High end spa also in the park for luxurious pampering. Historical springs located throughout the park. Many people bring jugs to fill with the natural spring waters. Saw many families picnicking. Docent tours are available as well.

Well maintained

By Brian0ntheGo |

We enjoyed our time in the park and you will too. The trail near the Performing Arts Center was very enjoyable with a nice mineral spring that flows into the brook - very unique rock formation as well. Everything is well maintained and the park is very clean. If you are in the Saratoga Springs area, this park is well worth several hours of your time.

Pleasant

By Omann Ortiz |

A beautiful park! We started our day with a nice lady named Judy at the information center. We spent a very pleasant day walking around the scenic spots. The springs, geysers, stream, and overall landscape makes a very enjoyable walk. And yes, the pool was awesome!

Mineral bath

By Betsy P |

Awesome bath. Hard to believe that the spa is from 1930's. Staff very attentive and good price. Will take off of my bucket list.

NYS Airstream Camping Trip in the Fall

By Kathleen E |

The beautiful architecture at this park and the park itself ! An easy walk through the springs itself was wonderful, amazing and beautiful. I did not realize the natural benefits of the Saratoga Spring water. We ended our walk at the SPAC venue. Being a native New Yorker, I cannot believe I had never been here. GO and enjoy a wonderful trip.

Excellent outdoor experience

By Susan G |

Hiking trails well marked, stopped at several of the springs along the trail. The place is HUGE, so we didn't see everything, but did do the 5 Mile Trail, which is mostly in the woods/shaded. Interesting variety of fauna along this trail.

A fun day!

By RKordziel |

This is the perfect place to go for a hike in the fall, the park also has a camp ground and golf course. Definitely stop and see the geyser!

wonderful

By quintessaSRQ |

we walked the grounds a number of times, staying close by. Totally enjoyed the scenery, lovely place.

Amazing park. Clean and beautiful.

By likesthebeach8 |

This is a happy place for me. I'm originally from the Albany area and ran high school cross country in the area. All the big races were here, so its extremely nostalgic. I hadn't been here in nearly 10 years, the last time was for my engagement photos. This last trip I took my children and we had a nice trip. We walked the three mile cross country course and was pleased at the ample bathrooms (completely necessary with a three year old!) and lots of small playgrounds. Its a clean, well maintained park that's absolutely beautiful. Smells of fresh pine needles.

Great State Park

By Claire M |

It’s cool to learn about the healing properties of the geysers all around the park. There is a nice picnic area, with a trail along a small creek. In 1930, they started to build the pavilions to attract visitors to the healing waters. The designs were based on spas in Europe. You can still take the waters at the Roosevelt baths, with a large offering of baths, massages and other curative treatments. There’s a big pool that you can use free once you’ve paid the park entrance fee. Dogs are allowed, so bring your pooch, and enjoy the grounds.

Saratoga Springs State Park and spa

By Julie O |

My daughter and I recently visited here. This is an amazing place. Seemed to be in 3 segments, one area had several museums, an area for concerts, Roosevelt spa(need reservation) areas for bikes, hiking picnics fishing and just general family area( dogs too on leash) another area where the special drinking waters are where wealthy folks use to go to drink the healing waters. A park ranger heads this tour where you get the history and taste all the mineral waters.
The entire Saratoga area is a wonderful place to visit and offers lots of things to do to museums, the parks and of course the beautiful Saratoga race track.

Saratoga tour

By Ejkl |

We took the tour of the Springs. Ken was an excellent tour guide. We learned a lot about the health benefits of each different spring. It was interesting tasting the different waters and clearing our sinuses with vapors from one of the Springs. I enjoyed learning about the history of the area also. The park is beautiful and so well maintained. We live near Heckscher State Park on Long Island and our park looks abandoned. It was a pleasure enjoying Saratoga Springs Park.

Phenomenal concert experience, pleasant enough hike

By Renchard |

We bought lawn tickets to hear a weekday matinee featuring the Philadelphia Orchestra at the outdoor pavilion of the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. It was heavenly. The crowd was large but not uncomfortably so, and we were afforded a fine view of the orchestra (two jumbotrons also are on-site), as well as great acoustics. (We bought $5 soccer mom chairs at the local Wal-Mart, which proved more comfortable than sitting on the ground.) We couldn't believe that we were listening to one of the greatest orchestras in the country for $18 apiece. It also was nice sitting on the lawn on a summer afternoon. There also was ample parking. We visited the park again to take a hike and see the springs; it was a pretty nature hike but for us, not unlike the state parks we visit at home. There is much more to this park than just this, and we'll definitely explore the other venues on a future visit.

Going to Victoria Pool

By Andy C |

So I am very fortunate to be a native of Saratoga Springs, NY. The Saratoga State Park is one of the gems of our community. In particular the Victoria Pool is one of the best parts of the park. I have been swimming and enjoying the Vic since I was a little boy. Please go there in the summer. It does get crowded on weekends, but well worth it.

Staying at the Gideon Putnam

By nancy39 |

We arrived yesterday and went for a walk in the park. Very beautiful. Had a swim at the Victoria pool in the park. Enjoy!

Wow

By NHjo |

Just took a brief tour while in town, but was duly impressed. Beautiful classical architecture, mineral baths and springs, nice golf courses and swimming pools (especially the Victorian pool with arched promenades), walking and running trails, tennis, ice rink, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing trails, lovely picnicking grounds, and a few restaurants. It's also the site of the historic Gideon Putnam hotel. I wish I had one of these in my neck of the woods.

Beautiful park

By Ann c |

Lots of great walking trails by the stream, and plenty of tables for picnicking. It's March, so things are pretty muddy, but look forward to going back in summer.

Enjoyed our visit

By MsCasualTravelor |

What a gorgeous state park! We walked around the buildings, took a few trails, and even enjoyed spotting the life size uniquely decorated ballet point shoes.

Very clean, peaceful and zen.

A beautiful place to spend a fall afternoon

By theresa c |

My husband and I visited the park to explore the trails and see the water features. It was a crisp fall day and the foliage in the park was beautiful. Lots of trails to walk/hike or bike on. We picked up maps at the visitor's center, but they did not help us. We got lost constantly trying to find points of interest. We also ran into 4 other people while out walking and they all agreed the trails were very confusing and not well marked. We even met a man who said he's hiked all over Colorado without trail maps and found this park to be the hardest to figure out. It was a fun day just the same. But better trail markings would be helpful.

One of the best

By George W |

Didn’t have a tee time the day we are there but I have played the course before and it is challenging and well maintained. The park has a great swimming pool that is friggin’ huge! But definitely sign up to take a free tour of the water springs some getting water from over 400’ feet below the surface. A must see

Golf in Saratoga

By U4859VTdonaldm |

Great Golf Course in the State Park. From the Championship Tees to the Senior Tees, every hole enjoyable and fun to play. Many upgrades over the past several years, including all new sand traps. Always in Great Condition. Call and ask about rates.

Beautiful!

By M H |

Be sure to visit this beautiful park. Take a walk, go for a hike—whatever time you have, it’s filled with wonderful trees, birds, even a stream.

Natural Springs, great walking/running trails, playgrounds and picnic areas.

By leneyB |

We did the geyser trail and part of the 5 mile trail with our kids 4 and under. It is mostly flat, with some stairs in one spot and roots. The trail is well marked. We saw some animals, people fishing, picnicking, walking, running and biking. If you go during a concert, you can hear the music at some parts of the trail. Overall the bathrooms and park are clean and well cared for. There is lots of shade. The first day we went, there wasn't a fee for parking- maybe we went later in the day? - The second day it was $10 because there was a concert - even though we weren't going to the concert. But it was worth it.

We found the park to be relaxing and can't wait to go back again.

Great respite in a busy town. Golf was great, too

By DrWillie |

Was there for a reunion. Great place to walk and be peaceful. Played golf at the spa course (not National) and it was great. It's in good shape, classic layout (like Pinehurst), easy to play but enough trouble. Walkable

Ask at the booth is the springs are running!

By Emm |

This is a great park for picnicking, hiking or golfing. We've also attended concerts here in the summer. There's a small fee for entering the park. We were hoping for some spring water but only the sparkling spring was running. Don't drink that water it's nasty. But the regular spring water is excellent. On the Sunday they also had a large farmer's market.

Geyser trail

By Art and Ginny |

We walked the geyser trail. There were a number of the geysers that actually were fountaining into the air. There are picnic areas, playground equipment, a place to fill water jugs and some signage to explain the history.

Never expected such a great park

By MissS85 |

Our friend told us to take a walk in the Saratoga Spa State Park and we listened to her. She’s been living in Saratoga for a while and helps us with things to do when we visit. This was a win win!
We went on a beautiful Saturday morning for a walk and we were totally shocked how beautiful the park was. They have mineral spa baths there which unfortunately we were not able to go to. We had a very limited time frame to work with and we went for a walk and saw what the park had to offer. They have so many things to see and do, we wish we would have had more time. You definitely need a few hours to go around and explore. Next time we’ll allot at least a half a day to see more. It’s a gorgeous park with many walking trails and pavilions to visit. It’s a must to go to when you’re in Saratoga Springs.

Beautiful park - check out the Victoria Pool and the trails for running. Outstanding- truly. I also suggest just wandering round - get lost in the beauty.

By Doris S |

Nice leisurely walk thought the public golf course and throughout the park. Avenue of the Pines , as it is called A lovely place for you and your pet. The Gideon Putnam restaurant excellent . A little higher in price , but the buffets on Sunday are worth every penny. It is also just a stroll from the restaurant to SPAC Saratoga Performing Art Center for your evening entertainment. Great local events , as well.

Beautiful Spacious Park

By Emily M |

Perfect location for portrait based photography and weddings! The park is known to host a lot of weddings throughout the year because of its picturesque views. Due to the size of the park, it requires a lot of walking.

This is my hometown and The State Park is Beautiful! I recommend a visit there, especially in the Summer

Goo times

By WorldTraveler89 |

Many activities and great pools. This is a state park with a historic hotel located right on site. Worth a visit!

Great golf course

By golfnut51 |

The golf course is reasonably priced and in good shape. There are no gimmick holes or silly hazards. Hit the ball straight and you will score well. The rangers keep the course moving and if there is a problem they are quick to resolve it

Tour Guide Ken

By Melissa D |

We went on a tour of the springs as well as a nature walk- both with Ken. He was a fantastic guide and made our experience very pleasant! Ken was knowledgeable , made us laugh, and added positivity to our trip!

Bubbly Fun Water Tasting Tour with Range Ken!

By Brian S |

Stoped by to visit the park and see and sample the water from the famous springs. We pulled into pay for the park admission ($10 per car) and I asked what would they recommend and they told us about the Ranger let tours (offered 2x a day on the day we visited and included with park admission). Ranger Ken led the small group on an easy walk to several of the springs- and even had paper cups so we could sample. Giving a history and insight to the water and park. It was super fun and informative. We tasted and sampled the really interesting and different tasting and effervescent / bubble waters-and learned about the geography and formation of the springs. Ranger Ken was funny and interesting making this one of the most interesting of park tours. Well worth visiting and taking a tour with Range Ken! Bringing some water bottles so you can bring some home.

Pleasantly surprised

By jendav91 |

Really didn’t know much about the park. There is truly a spa you can pay to go to - but need reservations. They use the mineral water from the springs. The hike to the springs from the bath houses was great and easy. Really enjoyed seeing them. The best is actually one you could drive right up to by the creek center with parking lot. The river is gorgeous and you get to walk along side it. Worth a stop.

Living Keystone of Saratoga's History

By Mr_Snippets |

You mustn't miss this hard-fought victory of early environmentalists to save a precious resource from extinction by commercial greed. "Taking the waters" (mineral) might not be so medically recognized as curative these days, though we met regular visitors testifying to exactly that.

The manicured grounds are beautiful, and the spa baths are typically booked solid at least a few days in advance, even during our off-season visit. The lovely and historic Gideon Putnam Hotel still books lots of rooms beneath the towering oaks.

As our short stay in town kept us from booking the spa baths, we took to the trails with empty coffee-cups to drink from the "spouters" and enjoy the wide variety of tastes of the various mineral mixtures, formed from slightly acidic water reacting with underground rocks. This also produces the famous carbonation which drives the fountains - these are not thermally driven like the geysers out west. Some of these are also accessible by car.

Don't bother bringing bottles to fill: This water is like biblical Manna - a gradual chemical process, after the CO2 escapes above-ground, decomposes the loveliest water into something too ugly to drink.

Were it not for hard litigation and the intervention of the state's tycoon-governor Franklin Roosevelt (pre New Deal), all attractions in the town of Saratoga Springs would not exist today. Don't miss it.

Mineral Springs

By BlueJay5 |

This is a fantastic park for an afternoon of exploration. My kids loved exploring all the springs off of Geyser Loop Road. The geyser was fantastic. My son loved looking for crayfish in the creek. We took a nice & easy walk/hike appropriate for families, including grandparents and little kids. Our short hike lasted about two hours including many activities. We cooled off in the creek, saw a waterfall, tasted the springs, and enjoyed the tranquility of nature. There were bathrooms and a playground nearby. We can't wait to visit again!

Excellent Bike Trails!

By skipthelightfandango |

We loved the smell of pine in the air! The bike ride was so nice. We also saw the oldest outdoor pool on the east coast! I would recommend this park as a great place for a long walk or bike ride. Very flat trails for the most part.

One of my favorite places on earth

By rgstrip |

Traveled a bit, and I can say that my favorite place on Earth is Saratoga Springs, and the State Park is central to that feeling. It has a lovely golf course, great places to walk, and the Performing Arts Center is as wonderful as any venue around. 30+ trips to this place always has me yearning for the next trip. If you are considering things to do in upstate New York, make this place a must-see

Beautiful state park

By Carol M |

A beautiful drive through a gorgeous NY State park. We were fortunate enough to witness a band that was rehearsing for a Flag Day parade and we remarked that it was a perfect place for a rehearsal. The park has a multitude of pavilions for family and friends picnics. People were relaxing stream side with a good book. This is a very dog-friendly place. We tasted three of the springs, and they weren't to our taste, but we very much enjoyed being in the beautiful park in gorgeous weather.

Very nice park. Multiple attractions. walking paths etc

Don't pass it by- there is something for everyone at Saratoga Spa State Park. From the tall pines, to the Victoria Pool to the Roosevelt Baths and beyond, it's well worth an afternoon.

Beautiful state park with many outstanding attractions: spa, statuary, golf, nature trails. Auto museum, lots of history.

Great hiking in the woods, in the middle of town

By caringinthemoment |

We really enjoyed our morning on the Orange trail, winding through this wonderful urban park. We only saw one other couple in the trails the morning while the easy 2.9 mile trail. Really a lovely way to get a workout in.

Amazing!!

By Lastlightglow |

We took our children here to explore the springs. It was really fun for them to search and find each one(and even sample the water). One of the springs tasted like orange seltzer. The kids loved the playground. We brought a picnic lunch. We heard music from the performing arts theater and my kids were convinced it was Angels singing❤️.

Beautiful park with numerous walking trails. Nice way to spend a few hours! Of course, as is typical of Sate Parks, the trail maps and trail markings are confusing.

Nice State Park

By Mary J |

We went for a great morning walk around this park. Their trails are well maintained, you can bring your dog (on a leash), there are natural mineral springs around the park and a lovely stream flowing through it. Nice large picnic area with well maintained facilities and playground.

Beautiful Park and tasty springs

By Susan T |

Saratoga Spa State Park is beautiful and well maintained. I sampled a couple of the springs located in the park. Tried the Charlie Spring (not for me) and the state seal spring water which was delicious!

Wonderful day at the park

By Elizabeth Foothill |

This is a large, beautiful state park with lots of space to explore and natural beauty. If you head into the park office you can pick up a map of points of interest, including the famed mineral springs throughout the area. If you head towards the center of the park, there are about 8 springs in close proximity to each other to explore and taste. Note most of the springs, with the exception of State Seal have a strong metallic mineral taste and a few have a bit of a sulfur smell, so if you're not prepared for that it may be off-putting. Besides the springs, there are pools, tennis courts, golf courses, playgrounds, picnic areas, and a variety of trails to enjoy. Absolutely recommend spending a day or two here.

A beautiful walk or bike ride

By Jake K |

Beautiful walks and good facilities in an easily accessed facility without cost.. There are natural geysers and springs to walk past and enjoy.

Do not pass this place up. It’s a MUST SEE

By Bruce C |

Too bad almost every thing within the park was closed with the exception of the golf course and the Automobile Museum which was wonderful to visit. It’s small but for a car racing enthusiast there is a lot to see Also cars of the early years such as a Model A ford car and truck. The Pierce Arrow was spectacular. Lots of videos of Glens Falls races and other good stuff. If this museum is representative of the other museums on the grounds, they must be a joy to see. Too bad the Pandemic curtailed so much. You can spend time walking the paths or find one of the hiking trails. It’s a phenomenal facility.

Fantastic community pool for all ages

By Peter L |

We went for the community pool with our infant daughter on a VERY hot July day and the park was crowded but the large walk-in wading pool was more than adequate for the crowd. We were able to sit in the shallowest part to let our daughter enjoy the water. The two water slides were also a treat!

Beauiful and huge state park with lots of options for entertainment

By christopherwX3144AC |

This is an amazing park for hiking. The Saratoga Performing Arts is located here, plus several museums and a hotel. There is a 9 and 18 hole golf course on the grounds. Plenty of picnic areas. Two huge pools. One for children.

Beautiful place

We took the tour of the the different mineral springs and got to taste all the different kinds of water. Our guide was very knowledgeable. Do try to take the tour - it is well worth it!

Loved it

By VermontVagabound |

Very nice place to go for a walk and get away from downtown Saratoga Springs for a bit. We walked there, which took maybe half an hour and had a bit of a sad lunch/refreshment at the club's restaurant. Very interesting comparison to the still active baths we visited in Germany prior - while it's nice to see that the buildings are being repurposed, one can't help ponder the "what if". Either way, well worth a visit.

Gorgeous Park with Beautiful Paths to the Springs

By NYLadyDi2 |

A spacious and popular destination where runners, lovers and dog walkers abound. You can actually dip your toes in the natural springs. Tip: I was warned by more than one person that it is a bad year for tics.

Love this park!

By Tina S |

This park has so much to offer: Try to get a tour of the springs with Trent at the Roosevelt Baths Spa. A must do, as Trent is incredibly informative. You will feel wonderful for days after drinking the smelly waters. Great paths and bike trails, 2 pools, a historic hotel, restaurants, wedding venue, golf course, spa, concert venue, farmers market on Sundays and fabulous photos opportunities at the entrance gardens. I am grateful to live so close and enjoy every day!

Every community should have a facility like this!

By Linda S |

Many opportunities for exercise, golf, auto museum, accommodations, restaurant and concerts. One can find something to do during every season from swimming to snowshoeing.

Very Large and Nice Clean Park

By Scott W |

Park is HUUUUGE!. Because of size, doesn't look crowded at all. Saw people filling jugs of mineral water. Plenty of people getting walking exercise, bike riding and walking their dogs. Looks like there are ample areas t picnic or cook out.

Beautiful but a bit confusing to get around.

By Laurie S |

Visited the park so that we could see the springs and walk the grounds on a beautiful day. It was a very nice facility and informative when taking the springs tour. Trying to find the correct parking area for each of the attractions was a bit confusing.

Hiking and sightseeing in one!

So much great history here. The hiking trails are well marked and so many interesting sites to see. The park is well cared for and the buildings and architecture were beautiful. Two thumbs up!

Great Day For A Nature Hike

We had a wonderful time on the Nature Hike today. It was a perfect day for the adventure through the woods on snowshoes. I would highly recommend participating in this activity with your family and children are welcome. The park has snowshoes for even the littliest ones. The staff are friendly and very patient. I highly recommend visiting the Creekside Classroom for other offerings as well.

Bring a cup to taste the different mineral springs

By nicole_chelli |

We came on a Sunday and to our surprise admission to the park was free, I believe usually it is $10 for a car. You can park anywhere inside the park and jump in on one of the trails. They also have the spa, tennis courts, golf course and I believe a swimming area and other amenities. We were just passing through Saratoga and decided to stop to try some of the springs. I wish they had more maps available because it was a bit difficult to figure out where we were in relation to the springs but after spending sometime on my phone searching we were able to figure it out. We didn’t have a lot of time to walk the full walking trail to try all the springs, but we parked in parking lot “E” and were able to try 6 different mineral springs as they were all in similar locations, we did 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 10. On my phone I pulled up a little snit bit of each of the springs and what they taste like. Make sure you bring your cup to taste try all the different mineral springs such a fun experience to share!

Beautiful park

By Becky W |

This park has a lot to offer for many people. There are trails, which are good for taking your dog for a walk. We enjoyed taking some mineral baths in the park’s Roosevelt Spa. They also offer the usual spa things: massages, facials, etc. The grounds are beautiful, the air is clean and everybody you meet is nice.

Perfect spot to stop. The springs are easily accessible and mapped out to walk to. History plaques offer great info. They have lots of picnic tables, pavilions and playground. The stream is nice to see too. Lots of shade and a great nature spot.

Relaxing place to visit with great auto museum.

Park blends in with golf course so it seems really big. The automotive museum was great and host several "Lawn Events" during the summer months. Bring a jug and get some mineral water.

Saratoga Springs is a Fun Get-a-way!

By Ina F |

Saratoga Springs is a great place to visit. We went to the Race Track and saw the horses up close and enjoyed thrilling races. The whole atmosphere is friendly and welcoming like a state fair.
We enjoyed world class dining and charming places to stroll or shop.
The Saratoga State Park is a must to visit. Stately brick buildings also house a wonderful spa where had a thermal bath and massage. There are many trails to explore, plus a Performing Arts Center, Museum of Dance and a large outdoor swimming pool.

For a three vacation it was a quick getaway from Eastern Long Island and one we like to take often. Last year we stayed at the Hotel Saratoga which was a good budget friendly hotel with breakfast and all the amenities including free shuttle service. This August we stayed at the Holiday Inn which was walking distance to Congress park and the main part of town. Also a very good option with indoor and outdoor pool, free shuttle within 5 miles, restaurant, bar, beautifully maintained in and out.

If we were staying longer we probably would have checked out the Casino and music options in the lounges at The Casino Hotel but we so busy enjoying what we were doing. Last year we visited the Museum if Horse Racing and I highly recommend it. There’s also an Automobile Museum.

We were too early for bathing, but did take a nice hike. The grounds are lovely and the buildings architecturally interesting.

Great Park

By Connector191668 |

Great place to bike, hike, picnic, and relax. Be sure to visit a few of the springs. Take a taste. There is a five mile walking trail and shorter walks to the natural springs. It's beautiful there. Biking was easy, as well. Cars are slow and careful and usually park quickly.

Nice park to visit

By Afoodie65 |

Late on Saturday morning we drove to the park and were in time for a free guided walking tour of the park and its springs.
Our guide was a volunteer but very knowledgeable about the park, its history and its springs. Tour took about an hour then we were on our own.
Small problem: no signage to tell where we were and how to get back to our car.
We made our way to the area where the auto auction was being held that day and one of the guides there graciously gave us a ride back to our car in the golf cart he was using.

Memorable trip with family

Really enjoyed this trip with family and can’t wait to visit this place again . I would recommend to book your place in advance for a nice stay.

Great for all sorts of activities

Saratoga Spa State Park offers a great variety for everyone. The park is huge and has tons of paths and trails to run, bike, or walk on. The park is beautifully kept and has all sorts of interesting fountains in the park. There are things in this park for people of all ages.

Very cool

Lots to see, pretty park with springs galore! Wish we had more time to explore more. Any season would be great to visit.

Visit Saratoga Spring State Park.

By Sadiegirl2014 |

Having visited Yellowstone recently, I wanted to see what an eastern US geyser looks like.... LOL. Well, the springs at Saratoga State Park are not actually geysers, they were certainly very cool to see. The Island Spouter was the tallest of the spirting springs at around 10-12'. The Orenda Spring and Tufa Deposit was also very cool. The park has tons of trails and roads that meander through the park, some of which are tricky to know what way to go but taking a picture of the trail map upon entry can help you navigate. The park itself was beautiful, full of nature, flowers, birds, turtles.... even say a bunch of garter snakes taking advantage of the warm fall sun. Highly recommend spending some time here if you in the area.

We took advantage of the beautiful park right in our neighborhood to have our end of the year celebration. It was perfect! I feel so lucky to have such a beautiful amenity so close tonight home.

Wonderful Getaway, Concert, Massage, Mineral Bath and Hiking

By Edie M |

Wonderful State park in New York! We stayed one night at the Gideon Putnam had dinner (good food) the carnita Tacos were spot on with tender slow roasted pork. We had booked the 20 minute Mineral Bath with a 30 minute massage (should have splurged for the 1 hour massage) we used the steam room at the Roosevelt Spa. Went to see Chris Stapleton and Marty Stuart at SPAC so we walked from the hotel. Gideon Putnam Hotel was very nice. Single queen standard room was clean and comfortable (with mini fridge and keurig) bathroom was large.

History within a Great Walk

By Allen G |

The famous spa area, which includes the springs, was one time was used for medicinal purposes by Native Americans and European settlers. In the early 19th century, businesses over drained the springs which were feared to be permanently damaged. NY State stepped in to close the businesses and the spring waters returned to normal flow. The area has miles of walking trails looping the park, many small pavilions which can host 50 or so guests, and picnic tables near grills for a small group. There is a concert site there which reminds us of Tanglewood in Western Massachusetts. This state park is free and open to the public.

A walk in the park...

By Winda772018 |

Went to Saratoga Race course the day before & on our way home decided to stop at the Park to see the infamous “springs “.

Upon entering the park we were met at a booth by a park employee who informed us there would be an $8 fee to enter with the car or we could park for free just outside the booth & walk the paths to the springs. Asked if there were any maps, and she gave us one.. Alas, the map was NO help at all & there were no signs along the pathways to guide us.
So here it the easiest & most economic way to take in the beauty & tranquility of this grand park.....

Head to the Roosevelt baths and behind there is a large parking lot FREE of charge . Proceed to the very end of the lot & follow the trail to the far right. At the bottom of the trail is a “visitor “ type center where there are restrooms and a fountain that you can test the waters from. There are free guided tours that leave from that location at 11:00 am, then 1pm... and a few more after. But you can also walk along the river yourself & see several of the springs & see the tufa formations...follow that to the end of the trail where you’ll come upon a large staircase that takes you above the path you just walked. You will come upon Orenda & wind up at the “visitors” center again. Great & inexpensive way to experience the majestic beauty this park has to offer!

We spent a morning here exploring the park and it was truly beautiful! There is plenty to see and we even got to enjoy toasting marshmallows at the ranger's office. We'd definitely visit again anytime we are in Saratoga Springs!

Reprise from the city

By slr737 |

This State Park offers recreation, from golf, swimming pools, hiking, pinics, cross country and snow shoeing, to cultural offerings including ballet and rock concerts in the amphitheater, live theater, automobile museum and mineral baths/ massages at the public Roosevelt bathhouse. Hotel accommodations at the Gideon Putnam hotel

Good variety of passive activities

By saratoga1287 |

The Saratoga Spa State Park is a wonderful place to spend a few relaxing hours. The walk along the stream by both the geyer and various mineral springs is really nice, especially on a warm summer day. Most of the spring waters are not very tasty, but it is interersting to recall that at one time visiting and dringing mineral springs were a big in society. And don't forget to visit the Auto Museum which is located in a repurposed bottling plant. The rotating exhibit on the first floor imvokes special memories. Upstairs you'll see the major role the state of NY played in the early auto industry. Plus they have lawn shows most weekends dedicated to select group of autos.

The Massage of a lifetime! Michael

By Dawn828591 |

We visited this fabulous spa and resort for the second time! Stayed at the Gideon Putnam and went to mineral baths which is so soothing and restorative followed by massages. Each of us had the best masseurs in the Spa! My husband had Alex who worked miracles on his shoulder and all the knots. I had Michael who prided himself on being a problem solver and he sure was. He released knots in my shoulders that no other massage had done! I have issues with my legs and he made them feel so good! He taught me a little meditation and how to help my issues . I only wish I could go more frequently to Michael ! He has a gift ! Alex too!

Nice place to visit

By Trip24 |

We didn’t have time to use bikes, but it would be probably perfect to do a bike route around the park.

History and nature

By Edward W |

A neat and somewhat unexpected place to stop. This state park incorporates history into nature and provides a fun experience. In comparison to other state parks it is obviously not as natural or as remote as some of the, but it was still a good place to visit.

Beautiful Respite

By Plb50 |

There is something for everyone here. Most importantly the lovely natural habitat to enjoy. Terrific walking, hiking, biking, swimming, tennis, picnicking, natural spring water to find, and performing arts programs.
You cannot miss this gorgeous place, the towering pines, tranquil setting, and lots to do.

enjoyable outdoor experience

By AnnM |

It was fun traveling the park looking for the mineral springs. Park was well maintained and plenty of parking. Beautiful buildings add to the old time feel

Sun is out! Spring is here!

By michellepoccia |

One of my favorite spots in Saratoga Springs is the state park.
When I first visited here to scout out where we wanted to raise our kids in the Capital District, a visit to this state park sold me on Saratoga Sorings
Two golf courses, picnic areas, a hotel conference center, world class outdoor theater and sweet indoor theater, two pools and endless trails for safe walks around all these beautiful trees and venues.
We are SO fortunate to have this park!

Stop for a drive thru a lovely place

By Marilyn P |

We always enjoy our yearly visit to Saratoga. The weather was perfect when we visited on August 20th. There was no rain and we did have bug spray because the mosquitoes 🦟 and bees 🐝 can be annoying. There is a place to try the “waters” that made Saratoga a destination place for a hundred years. But, we careful & not drink too much or you will be spending too much time in the bathroom.
The Auto museum is wonderful but does have an admission fee. The Roosevelt Baths is wonderful. A massage here is relaxing and you will feel like you are a member of the “Gilded Age”.
Visit the Gideon Putnam Hotel for a glimpse into a beautiful old hotel. We relaxed in the lobby in the late afternoon. We saw the staff finishing up after a wedding ceremony and brunch in one of the banquet rooms. The desk staff were very helpful answering our questions.
We walked along the many parks. There is also a beautiful pool called the Victoria Pool that is free if you are staying at the Gideon Putnam. Otherwise, there is a charge.
There is a lake in the park that is free

Beautiful spot even in thecrain

By dizzyizzi6 |

Unfortunately it rained on our park day, but we still had a picnic and the kids rode scooters and hit a playground near the educational center in picnic loop. We also hit the car museum, which was totally rad! There was a farmers market at one entrance of the park happening as well. Looking forward to our next visit (hopefully a sunny one).

Quick visit.

By Ariana K |

Unfortunately we only had time for a quick stop on our way through. It was beautiful and I can’t wait to go back to do some longer hikes. Definitely try the fresh spring water!

Backyard Playground

By Linda M |

Previous review - there is NO CAMPING in this park, there are two lovely golf courses. We live nearby and also recommend the 5 Mile Trail for a lovely hike that takes in all the highlights.

Very nice

By Anika H |

I would highly recommend. You can walk around and there are many more springs that you can taste around the park. Saratoga Performing Arts Center is also located in the park and has lots of great shows. You can walk, bike, and run around the park. If you would like to do something in the winter you can cross country ski there as well. You can also visit the Victoria Pool and the Peerless Pools if you wish to cool off. 10/10

State has ruined

By Lee B |

The state of NY has ruined this historic landmark. By selling out to a golf course, a hotel and a music / arts entertainment venue. Supposed to be a state park that all can enjoy. That's not so. They sell out to bidders for private parties / occasions. You can't even find or get near the natural springs because they are gone. The only thing good on the property is the automotive museum.

Amazing place to have fun

By Jen |

There is something for everyone. You can hike, picnic, play, golf, run and more. Beautiful clean grounds that everyone can enjoy even you furry children.

Saratoga state park and spa tour

By Chuck |

Took a tour in Saratoga state park and spa .Tour consisted of water tastings of several different springs.Ken our tour guide was entertaining and extremely knowledgeable on each of the springs, pointing out the differences of water composition ,depth and history of each spring .

Nice enough

By saturdaydiner |

Love the outdoors and this is nice, but not exact!y a very understandable or well marked trail system.Kind of hard to figure out where to go.

Relaxing

By Tammy C |

Nature sounds. Nature in bloom. Relaxing to walk the paths with the dog. Always a lot of free parking.

Interesting an informative

By MissSiu |

Ken and Judy were the best part of the park for us, both were very patient and informative. You definitely need to go on Ken's tour of the geysers, as he takes the time to explain the different types of mineral water based on depth of the ground tap. Really enjoyed it!

Grand Spa Stroll

By Allen P |

The scale of this park is very impressive as are the various buildings and facilities. Take time and walk around the entire area, as the majestic buildings still function as intended almost a hundred years ago.

TIP: Taste the spring water at the spa, but just sip....

Big park, great for jogging or a walk

By Bill S |

The park is pretty big. There are a bunch of parking lots scattered throughout, so you can drive or walk/run. The geysers, small waterfalls and Roosevelt Bathhouse buildings are the big things to see.

Concert in a beautiful park.

By teach2016 |

We attended a concert in the park. We walked to the back entrance. The walk was lengthy but enjoyable. The concert was very good music but a little crowded on the lawn. Not much lawn left. I have to remember to get tickets closer.

Fabulous Park

By Diane R |

We drove through the park to go to the spa. It is very large, beautiful, well maintained. Wonderful paths for walking and biking

Mineral Springs Tour

By LisaAlford |

My mother, stepfather, and I did a tour of the mineral springs with a tour guide at the state park. There were about 10 people that showed up for the free tour. We tasted the different waters while the tour guide explained the different minerals in the water. Very informative. It was a beautiful park with a stream running through it. Nice tour.

This was really cool and worth a visit

By Chris M |

We only had time to drive through but were impressed with the grounds and buildings. We plan to return to explore more and join the crowds on the lawns!

Very Interesting

By Glenn B |

Haven’t really taken advantage of all of the parks amenities, but did tour the motor museum and while not huge, well worth the visit. There is a really great sign in the museum that has nothing to do with autos, it describes what the different spa waters were used for. There are some great trails through the woods, of course the natural spas themselves and really neat my picnic areas along the meandering river. Have been twice now and will definitely go back to play golf or a spa treatment

What other hikes ENCOURAGE you to drink the water?

By Chris E |

The hiking here is flat, varied, and average. But what sets this locale apart are the dozen or so natural springs, many of which the park actually encourages you to drink. The history of the area is fairly interesting. Great for families of all ages. There are natural creeks to play in as well as swimming pools.

Most interesting tasting the different spring waters.

By Judy H |

Ken the guide was very informative. It's a beautiful park to walk or drive around in. Well worth the $8 entrance fee.

Beautiful and educational

By Lisa S |

Very impressive .. beautiful grounds.. Especially helpful was the park employee who told us about the short hiking trail (while we were looking at the map) due to our time constraint.. all the sites were well marked and educational.

Beautiful area, great massage

By VinceyDog |

I was given a gift certificate to the Spa for a massage and it was wonderful. Last time I was here I had a mineral bath which was also heavenly. The buildings are so interesting. I do think they might spruce up the relaxation room, but other than that I'd say it was a great day!

Must do the walking tour w/ Ken!

By W_M_Freeman |

Great visit that included a walking tour with Ken! Has it not been for the tour the visit would have been underwhelming for sure. Ken, the tour guide was super knowledgeable and very personable. Loved tasting the various springs and learning about the history of the area

Beautiful grounds and venues!

By Jeff M |

A historical hotel, museums, famous baths, spring water, SPAC performing arts venue, lovely golf course and more!

Family summer fun

By Lisa M |

I planned a 2 night getaway for my little family to someplace we had never been before, even though we are all lifelong New Yorkers. The drive was only 2.5 hours from Long Island and we avoided most traffic. The park is quite beautiful, I wanted to see the cold water geyser and was not disappointed! Unlike the geysers out in Yellowstone, this one is continuous. The boys loved playing in the stream and we filled jugs with the delicious spring water. As seniors, park entrance fee was free. We stayed at the Gideon Putnam which was lovely. The guys played golf and the girls enjoyed the Roosevelt Spa. Truly a wonderful time.

beautiful place to pass a few hours

By Karen S |

Wonderful green areas for picnics, beautiful buildings along the perimeter, walking trails in the wooded areas.

A Beautful Park

By Stefania D |

This park is meticulously maintained. There is a pool, two golf courses, a spa, a bike share and miles of trails to walk or ride. There are also a performing arts center an auto museum and a a dance museum, Don’t miss the docent spring tour given by Zack! This was the highlight of our visit. Zack is an authority on the springs that made the area a destination.

Beautiful Park

By mav4324 |

This Park is worth going to. It has a beautiful golf course, areas where you can taste the spring water, and lots of walking and bike paths. Stop by the Gideon Hotel for lunch the place is filled with history.

Great Park

By Phillip K |

Unsure about the origins of this park but judging from the infrastructure, it was developed long ago to appeal the wealthy travelers. The architecture is a throwback to a by gone era. The park has a serious network of trails. We are from out of town but this is quite a jewel for locals to enjoy on a regular basis.

Fun and fast

By Rick M |

We played 2 rounds in 2 days and loved this course. About average length with well kept greens, occasional sand traps and only a couple of water hazards. Lies are generally good. If your drive is way errant it’s probably gone, but the fairways are ample and open. It plays fast and they don’t stuff too many golfers on at once. We’d love to play it again in the fall. It must be gorgeous then...

Saratoga state park

By Kathy J |

Great place for walk, run, picnic or just relaxing. Lots of trails and areas to explore including all the geysers. Be sure to check out the flowers at the entrance on Broadway. Pools are great as is Catherine’s for lunch. And on top of everything, there is the Performing arts center for great concerts from classical, ballet and to today’s top artists. Only thing to keep in mind is the schedule at spac for parking.

A walk in the park...

By johnK5878KC |

I walk the park at least one day per week. Walkers, joggers and bikers are frequently seem on any of the numerous paths that crisscross the park. The Saratoga Spa State Park or SPAC as it is known by locals has a very affordable 18-hole golf course, a par 3 golf course, and auto museum, fountains with fresh spring water, the performing arts center which features renowned performers and artistic companies like the Philadelphia Orchestra and top performers of the day.

Vacation

Went to spa booked one month ahead . Wonderful mineral bath in private suite and massage. Old world building renovated. FDR went for his mineral bath treatments

Great park!

By Diana P |

Beautiful park to walk through, with interesting history. There are pleanty of picnic tables and grills. There is also a big and clean swimming pool, $2 admission to the pool. $8 parking entrance. The Roosevelt Spa, SPAC, and the automobile museum are very close by.

Interesting

By GalitDadoun |

We didn't really plan this well but we're intrigued by the phenomenon. Learned a lot about this natural wonder but not sure we truly experienced it the way this place should be experienced. Everything was covered with snow and even though we endeavored to seek the natural springs, they weren't really easily found. Maybe because of the snow covering everything or because we weren't prepared to spend the whole day there.

The visitors center was super helpful in explaining how to explore the place but I feel that in order to truly to benefit of this wonder of nature we would need to do more research ahead of time next time and be ready to come here to spend the day. I have a feeling that a summer visit would be more fun if you could dip I'm the creek and explore in bathing suits...

Difficult to traverse.

By Kenneth B |

Could be am amazing venue, but difficult to get information. The road system is confusing and there is no audio tour to play in your car. The park personnel are very informative when you can find them, the springs are worth seeing but skip everything else. The car museum looked interesting but only parking for reservation holders? There are many good parks in the state, this is not one of them for us.

Local Gem

From the bike path, to hiking trails, to Victoria pool, there is no reason to leave town to have a nice day

Beautiful and delicious!

By QueensburyMaMa |

The carbonated mineral water is an acquired taste. The water is so healthy for you! The spring water that they have there is also very delicious. The park is absolutely beautiful! Plan on spending a few hours at this beautiful park!

Great for walking

Many trail options. Historical buildings with mineral springs and spa. Very near SPAC and a golf course. Plenty of places to park.

If you can’t visit, put it on your bucket list! It’s a must do,

By iMartie |

This park is BEAUTIFUL! We took a guided tour, took a hike, rented bikes and explored as many springs/geysers as we could find. We spent the entire day at the park and could go back for more. It’s perfect for a quiet walk alone, as a couple or with the kids. The kids we saw were loving it. It’s a must do!

Amazing Park and Trails

By Morgan |

Our experience at Saratoga Spa State Park was very nice and peaceful, and we would definitely recommend stopping at this amazing place. The park was very well kept and the scenery inside the park was incredible. The view of the spring was very pretty and the trails here are very nice and organized. Overall this park is a great place to walk, bike, and swim and is a great location for all occasions.

Great escape

By Jeffrey S |

The state park encompasses more than 5 miles of trails and nature that is a great escape. There is also pools and a golf course on the same property. We were there off-season (Oct), however the foliage and springs were a natural beauty. There are guided tours daily and natural springs throughout. This was the highlight of visiting Saratoga Springs.

a weekend visit

By Tt T |

The saratoga state park sits against a victorian back drop . The park is filled with mature pine trees this can be viewed by taking a stroll down avenue of the pines. The park has many natural spring water fountains that are used by visitors and many close by communities. on any day you can go to a spring and see people filling their bottles to enjoy the great taste of the water. if you take a walk on any of the trails you will find a well groomed and preserved park filled with native trees and plants everywhere. The parks offers many places to stop and have a family picnic or just to sit down and take in some well deserved peace and quite. the park also offers 2 swimming pools . The victorian pool was just remodeled and is open for business very larger and clean . lots of life guards on duty , a kiddie splash pool for the younger kids babies and up . a water slide for the older kids. something for everyone . There are many beautiful trails to walk down and discover wonderful hidden places in the park . The mineral water geyser is just amazing . once you discover where it is you really come to appreciate the Beaty this park holds. the spring water and mineral water are really historic to this area . the park has a beautiful golf course in it so if you love to play golf this is the place . Saratoga state park has something for everyone and is well worth the trip to visit it from any where.

By Christina K |

Beautiful park for driving around, picnicking, hiking the spring trail, walking about. Several playgrounds for younger kids with pleasant little streams to explore. Lots of walking/jogging paths with accessible walkways for wheelchairs. I recommend a visit for all ages!

Great hike through the park

By BobN06 |

Nice place for a long morning hike on a summer day on the 5 mile loop. Plenty of woods and shade. Got to taste three springs - make sure you bring spare water and gum to chase the taste afterwards. Loop allowed us to divert into the spa and pool areas.

Beautiful park

By Laura Z |

Beautiful lush green park, great bike paths, walking paths. Close to Saratoga Springs, near the farmers market every weekend.

Roosevelt Baths

A must do. Your own private room. Fantastic staff. Ask for Coleen during the week and Nicole on the weekends

Okay, but really an urban park

By TravelCritic1985 |

Okay, but really an urban park. The park has multiple springs, but not all have nature water. The trails are not kep well and the grounds generally poorly managed. Despite the hard work of staff and contractors to keep the place up, it very much appears they are failing. It deserves only two stars, but the fact that the Saratoga Preforming Arts Center (SPAC) is located in the park gets it the extra star.

Stunning park for all to enjoy

By wheninrome_manga |

I’m a runner, and this is by far my favorite place to run in all of Saratoga. There are bike paths, wooded trails, beautifully maintained picnic areas, lots of natural springs to refill water bottles and more. I can go 16 miles without leaving the park or doubling up on any routes. In the summer, I can hear bands doing sound checks before the concerts at the SPAC outdoor auditorium. I feel lucky to have this space in my town.

Great outdoor space!

By kianme |

We stayed close by (Homewood Suites) and were looking for outdoor activities close to the hotel. Jackpot!! There are miles and miles of trails! You could walk from the hotel, it's so close! or ride your bike. SPAC is within the park as well as the Automobile Museum & other amenities. Plenty to do for families, or anyone looking for outdoor activities; there is also a large pool and also picnic pavilions you can rent. Look for the mineral springs too! Would definitely recommend!

Hiking trails and par 29 golf course.

By Dan B |

My wife and I have hiked the trails and played golf at the par 29 course and were delighted at the convenience and beauty we encountered.

Be sure and visit this park and spend the day exploring its many wonders.

By Lita-Luise C |

Saratoga Springs is known for several things: its mineral springs, the Saratoga Race Course for its thoroughbred horse racing track, and its Performing Arts Center. With the city slogan of “Health, History, and Horses,” it’s understandable that their welcoming sign would be a man on a horse with fountains behind it.

We were there in late September, so much of the horse attractions were closed for the season, and besides our interests did not lay there. Today our destination was the Saratoga Springs Spa State Park, but only a small part of its 2,379 acres. Within that small area of interest were the mineral springs. We entered one of the many entrances to the park, found a parking spot near the center and started out walking to find some of the many places where water naturally comes out of the earth.

It was the Mohawk tribes who were attracted to this land for hunting, because they believed the springs had healing powers. In the mid-1800s, Saratoga became popularly known as a health destination with many bathhouses and mineral spas that are still open to the public. There are eighteen public mineral springs in town. Some of the smaller tufa springs, and one mineral geyser can be seen by walking the half-mile trail along Geyser Creek. Early carbonated soda companies capped off some of these waters for their flavored bottled sodas, but were eventually shut down, due to their overuse, causing the geysers to cease flowing. Only years after the soda companies went away, did the waters return.

There are many lovely spots to sit and look out at the central lake. A bear statue is there, though no live bears are anywhere around anymore. Our first fountain, which was really no more than a trickle, had water that was bright red, due to its iron content. Across the road was an outlet where that same spring ran out, like rivulets of blood.

Most “geysers” are small that spit up or spit out. We followed the trail this rivulet took all the way to the creek, where the water spilled over a cement dyke. Geyser Creek runs through the park and since it had been raining, it was running pretty high and wide. A half-mile path along one side of the creek had many walkers and joggers.

Some of the springs are red, some orange, brown, and others yellow. Some have no scent and others smell strongly of sulphur. Walking the path, we came to the Orenda Spring Tufa, a multicolored mound
of mineral deposits that shoots up mineral water in the middle of Geyser Creek.

At another end of the state park is a sculpture garden with fountains. Two looked of interest: one of the four Greek caryatids, and another of two mermen eternally spitting out water from two marble conch shells, called Spit and Spat. Be sure and visit this park and spend the day exploring its many wonders.

Beautiful!

By Earl Ingstad |

We stopped off at the park office to grab a couple maps which helped a lot! The maps tell you where the natural springs are. They are an amazing site! There was also a farmers market happening. There was a lot of great food and craft vendors. We went on a Sunday.

Nice and peaceful!

By Tina M |

We enjoyed walking around the park. It was very peaceful and scenic and we just happened to be there when they had a giant pumpkin contest so that was pretty cool. Lots to see and do and a nice break from shopping!

Spring Tasting Hike - A Unique Experience

By Luci_J_M |

This is a beautiful state park with so much to do! Highly recommend a visit here! We visited on two cloudy days and that didn't distract from the experience. We saw that some people did a spring water tasting with a park guide, but the guided tour wasn't available when we went. There was a map for a trail with the springs, so we did the whole thing. It was a cool experience and something you don't get to do every day. That being said, some of the water was very salty and mineral tasting so all you could do was a sip. Other water was delicious spring water that we saw people bringing multiple gallon jugs out of their trunks to fill and bring home. The trail was a totally easy hike and very picturesque and serene. We rode bikes around the park the other day that we came. There are pavilions to rent, bbq grills and picnic tables galore where no rental is needed. There are restrooms and a playground too. We know we didn't even scratch the surface of everything available at the park (disk golf, regular golf etc). The park staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. It's a place we'd certainly come back to on a visit to the area.

Lovely Setting

By colt123 |

We drove through the park, and stopped to walk into some of the natural mineral springs that flow into a creek. Very interesting history and geological formations.

Beautiful any season

By Eileen L |

A great place to walk, bike, cross-country ski, or enjoy a picnic. The geyser trail is beautiful. There's a nice playground for little ones and pretty spots for adults to relax.

Spas, Performing Arts and Tranquillity

By joanz359 |

The area is large and is adjacent to the Center for Performing Arts. Also part of the park has the Automobile Museum, the Roosevelt Bath and Spa and many trails. You can park for free in various locations to access the trails or pay an entrance fee of $8.00. There are maps but these are not very good. We paid and went on a tour of the hot springs with a guide. We visited four of the springs and some of the crystal formations. It was a brief but informative look into the history of the springs and you tasted water from different levels. We were there on a weekday and I am sure that it is crowded on weekends.

Wonderful Place to Explore!

We just went Saratoga Spa State Park for a hike on the Geyser Creek Trail - so much more to do there, but we'll have to com back another day! We'll bring the grandkids as they'll be able to visit at least 5 playgrounds along the trail as well investigating and exploring the area!

Ken's Tour of the Springs was AMAZING

By contessafan253 |

My family and I went to the park 2 days ago to catch a (free) tour of the springs. Little did we know what was in store for us! Ken took us on a 30 minute tour - we had a private tour, as no one else had signed up. He took us to 6 or 7 different springs in all, explaining the source of each, the composition of the water, w/ detailed explanations of the various tastes and appearance of each, the history behind the springs, and much, much more. He brought along paper cups so that we could taste the water from each of the springs - each one different from the next. It was a fun and educational experience, far beyond our expectations! Ken was a fountain of knowledge (no pun intended) and friendly and personable as well. We highly recommend this brief but very informative tour with Ken.

Love visiting all the different Springs!

By Callisto S |

This park has extensive walking trails - lovely! - and paths that connect all the sites for the various Springs in the Park. We really enjoyed the signage and historical descriptions at many of the Springs, too.

Pretty Grounds

By 46oceangirl |

We came here on a one night trip to Saratoga to see the area. This was considered one of the top things to see. So we get there and the grounds are beautiful. The only thing i would suggest is go to the offices and get a map. Nothing is well marked on the grounds. There was supposed to be a 2.90 mile walking trail through the woods, so we took the map. Have to admit, one of the worse marked maps ever. The tree's said 5miles the map 2.9, nothing lined up, some places you landed on the road others in the woods, but then it ended, nothing well marked and we live by New Hampshire and hike the woods of NH so this should've been a no brainer, instead very frustrating. None of the buildinds on the outside are labled well, no signage etc. If it wasn't for the map to some extend. There were arrows in white paint leading you in directions, so paths were near roads, to the map was very confusing. Other than that the grounds are well kept up. There are Red Markers on the trees, but still no help. Next time I'd just pack a book or lunch and read there, plenty of picnic tables on the grounds by the river/stream etc. Did see some of the marked mineral spring sections but only 2. Oh well. Must have walked over 2 miles trying to find the trails.

Beautiful State Park

By Heather B |

I highly recommend visiting this place if you are in the area. There are tons of trails and the natural springs are gorgeous. Great place to spend a day and get lost.

pretty, day use park with multiple springs adjacent to SPAC, auto museum, hall of springs and bath houses.

By Mike H |

pretty, day use park with multiple springs adjacent to SPAC, auto museum, hall of springs and bath houses. Peerless pool ( families) and Victoria pool ( more adults) are also adjacent . The park itself has several day use pavilions and walking paths though forested areas and streams. Cross country skiing and snowshoeing are popular.

Great park with many activities

By James C |

Our group of 12 had a reunion in the area. We had a nice picnic in one for the beautiful areas by the a stream. The next day we played a round of golf using both courses that were well maintained and fun. We also enjoyed a pleasant lunch at Cristina's by the Pool. Good food in great surroundings. All staff that we encountered were pleasant and helpful.

Want to golf? go to a concert? Walk a trail through the woods? Run on a paved trail? Be safe no matter what activity you choose? Top restaurant? You can gt it all at Saratoga Spa State park

Beautiful Park

By Maltipoo16 |

I was so impressed by this park and the beauty of it. The geyser spring was absolutely incredible, and I recommend everyone go and visit to see it. Was amazing to learn the history of the springs and spas of Saratoga at this park.

Water tasting instead of wine tasting!

By rhodak333 |

The spring water tasting tour (with Ken) was so much fun and so informative. We actually stumbled upon it at just the right time. Learned a bit about the history of the park, the geology, and why the waters from the various springs taste so different. Never thought we'd have such a good time tasting water! Ken was nice enough to also make suggestions about various walking trails and points of interest. The park itself is beautiful. We could have easily spent the entire day there.

Must take the tour

By chinsb |

Huge park with many things to do. Must the take your - we learned so much about the springs, and tasted them all. Did get lost in hike - trails not well marked.

Beautiful state park offering a unique experience

By Ryan L |

The park is an easy trip from the Albany area and well worth it. There are swimming pools, playgrounds and picnic areas to enjoy. There are also many trails to explore that feature natural springs and geysers. Each one is drinkable but I will caution some have a strong taste!
You won’t be disappointed taking the time to visit this state park!

Beautiful Park , However, not having bathrooms open due to Covid is misguided at best...People are coming. they will be

By redgatesfarm |

Nice Park , no bathrooms due to covid 19...People going bathroom in woods, no hand washing after and paper litter found. Misguided policy by State ...What are those mployees doing now since bathrooms are closed?? Some Park areas neglected....around Coesa Lake its a mess right now..Signs of mismanagement!

Great park for walking with interesting sights

By JWanderers |

We enjoyed walking around this large park and discovered it has some interesting sights such as a geyser, several cold springs and a river that runs through the park. There are several paths for walking. At least when we were there, there was a very friendly ranger providing explanations about the geyser activity and some of the history of the park. Would definitely recommend this park if you like nature.

The Roosevelt Baths are amazing!!!

By Missirius |

Go. Just go. They are a unique experience. Unbelievably relaxing mineral baths and massages. We booked one day, went back for 2 more. Treat yourself and go!

Beautiful

By john D |

This was our first visit to this State park. We walked the three mile Geyser trail, really nice trail that brings you past most of the sights. This State park is very well maintained. On Sunday we took a bath at the Roosevelt spa, I highly recommend doing it!

Orenda springs tufa!

By Hilary J |

We learned about the Orenda Springs tufa on Atlas Obscura and decided to visit that area of the park on our road trip through Saratoga. We found it to be the loveliest little hike, kid and dog and stroller friendly, to multiple springs. At the end of a quarter mile, people and dogs played in the springs. The starting point is near restrooms and parking.

Pretty park, great place to walk, ride bikes

By 0471sip |

Park is super accessible. Nice paths & trails. Fun tasting different mineral springs. Couldn't get social bikes to work. Called them and they said it would take 24 hours to reset.

Lovely views

By Elvira C |

We rode through the park to enjoy all the beautiful scenery! There were many trails to explore. Many places to picnic or just take a stroll.

Great activity for people who love the outdoors and trying something new

By catchat105 |

There are actually a few parks in Saratoga Springs that have water for you to sample, but the Saratoga Spa State Park is a great place to start. We pulled up to the Creekside Classroom, where rangers there will give you tours, and provide cups for you to taste the different mineral waters that sprout in the park. I could see someone with a sense of adventure and a love of nature enjoying this tasting tour, but someone who doesn't care to try water filtered by nature or someone who might be put-off by the mild odor around the mineral springs might not enjoy this activity as much.
We went after the period where fees are collected, which meant colder weather but it was still a nice autumn day. The staff at the park are very friendly and made the experience great for us. I'd actually recommend the tour because it's more interactive than just going around to read the signs that are posted. The tour is estimated to run for 45 minutes but it really just depends on the group you are with. We were worried about time because this was a stop over on our way to our next destination, but it was well worth pausing for.

An excellent park

By EyesGlazed |

What a nice surprise this park was. The concierge at my hotel recommended it when I had half a day to kill before I had to catch my flight from Albany. This park is so picturesque and great for a run or a walk. It has several pools, a golf course, running trails and a historic spa. For grown-up swimming, I recommend the Victoria pool. I wish I could have planned ahead more and booked a spa treatment as well.

A must see while in Saratoga

By frankcampolieto |

Come by yourself or bring the family. Everything from 18 hole golf to a picnic in the park. Probably one of the most beautiful and historic parks in upstate NY. You can even stay at the historic Gideon Putnam Hotel, in the middle of the park, and make a weekend out of it.

Excellent Place for Hiking, biking, strolling,

By Tracie G |

I stopped at the park on the way back from Lake Champlain for a quick stroll in the park and to take some photographs. It so peaceful and serene. It is absolutely wonderful. Please make sure to go and check out the mineral water geysers too.

Nice place to take a walk

By Cheryl G |

The majority of this park is built around the performing arts center and the golf courses. This allows for walking pathways that can be short or long walks depending upon what you want to do. A spring is across from the auto museum if you need a drink of cold, clean water.

Stunning

By Hgtravl |

We visited Saratoga downtown & walked down to the State Park! Simply beautiful! There are multiple wooded trails, beautiful pathways & the iconic spa buildings that are a photographers dream! The park was peaceful & we enjoyed venturing around! We didn’t get far enough in to try the water springs but seeing the buildings was stunning!

Quiet walk through the woods

By Rads12342015 |

The park is nice. the two reasons I wanted to visit was to see the geyser coming out of the rock in the middle of a stream, and then to see the feel of a spa town. Since during coronavirus pandemic a lot of places were closed, and not many people were visiting at the time we were there (Tuesday), the main promenade with the colonnade looked a bit like a ghost town, but it was nice to walk around. There was a lone gentleman giving information and there was a bathroom in the café, otherwise we were there almost by ourselves. After walking the main promenade, we started the red signed trail to the trail to mineral springs, it was about 3 miles walk and because we did not have a proper map, I didn't realize we started to follow the trail from the other side, away from the springs, so it took us about 2 hours to circle the trail and get to where we really wanted to go, but no problem, the walk was enjoyable and easy to follow. Just look for the red squares nailed to the trees. the walk was through the woods and it was very quiet. there were some nice areas good for a picnic. Now, the park also has two swimming pools but we did not go there during our visit. Overall it was a pleasant visit.

Beautiful Area

By PaleoGypsy |

The tall trees, open space , and well-maintained land contribute to the overall aesthetically pleasing experience. In addition to the spas, there are museums, theaters, golf courses, bike paths, and more. Multiple parking areas are located throughout the park per what you want to do. Some spaces are shaded, and others are located in the full sun. There’s something for everyone here.

Tranquil

By BradInDC |

Saratoga State Park is highly accessible. With a rich history, and home to the Roosevelt Baths and Spa. If a stroll through the wooded paths isn't enough, you can further your quest for zen with a soak in a mineral bath, followed by a massage at the Roosevelt Baths & Spa.

This place covers a lot of ground, both figuratively and geographically. It has a lot of things to offer: an historic health facility, performing arts, an automobile museum, hotel and dining, hiking trails, and over ten active water springs and geysers. We visited in late October, some of the venues were not available. We will certainly visit this spot again.

Worth a visit! We came in February, so mostly a drive through. I think in the summer this would offer so much more

Beautiful Day at the Park!

By BellaVita23 |

While visiting Saratoga Springs we spent a few hours strolling through the lovely Saratoga Spa State Park. We enjoyed the architecture of the Roosevelt and Lincoln bath houses as well as the splendid nature trails. We recommend a visit to the automobile museum, if you’re interested in cars from the 1950s, or the Batmobile. We had a fantastic time admiring these beautifully restored vehicles!

Drank from 10 of the fountains. They all tasted different!! Tallulah was my favorite. Very interesting visit. Amazingly beautiful location for a hike, picnic, or cookout. Plenty of tables and charcoal grills available. And a great playground for the kids. Loved it!

Beautiful park with many amenities

By MTrav |

This is a fantastic park. Easy hiking trails for kids and adults, especially the Geyser Creek trail. A number of different playgrounds. The playground adjacent to the Peerless swimming pool was a particular favorite for my 4 and 6 year old. Lots of sanitizer stations at the playgrounds as well.

Beautiful!

By cstage |

Very well preserved. We love walking to the different, unique springs, reading about the history and observing the grounds. Just one reason to go to Saratoga!

Great products and customer service.

By crashcarr |

I love the lemon olive oil and pomegranate balsamic vinegar. I buy it for myself and as gifts. Clean, well organized store with helpful staff.

A lot to see and do in this wonderful park

By Kent H |

We tried to walk to the park from the middle of the town of Saratoga Springs. We almost made it, but found citi bikes to rent when we got to Lincoln Spa. From there we rode all around the park — including the yellow trail that goes to a dozen mineral springs. These were fun. The water tasted terrible. The Roosevelt Spa is lovely. The Putnam hotel is worth stopping by for lunch.

Will stay here again.

By trinighal |

I stayed here for one night. I was attending a concert at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, so it was very convenient. As it is right on the grounds. I had dinner at the restaurant on site, good service, tasty food.
The room was well appointed, also had a large bathroom. Friendly staff, free shuttle. All in all a pleasant stay.

A true gem of a Park!

By Andy05255 |

We were in Saratoga for a getaway and stayed at the Gideon Putnam Hotel, located in the Saratoga Spa State park! There is so much in this park! The American Museum of Automobiles, the Roosevelt Spa springs bath house, there are miles of cross country skiing or snowshoe trails in the winter, and bike paths and golf course in the summer! When in Saratoga Springs NY, be sure to visit this park many times!

I spent the afternoon here with my 9 and 6 year old boys. We loved the trails, geysers, stream and just the overall atmosphere. What a great place to host a family gathering or just lay and read a book. The possibilities here are endless for outdoor entertainment.

Great park!

Very enjoyable park for both adults and kids. Hiking, natural springs, swimming, biking available. We really liked it.

Go to Creekside Classroom area of park for water tasting.

By Diane W |

Go to Creekside Classroom area to access several springs within 100 yards. Park near the classroom or park elsewhere and hike in. A Ranger gave us a brief explanation of the springs ' history, a cup and a table displaying the mineral content of each of the springs. The water tasting was fun.

Very unique State Park

By Pamela Tompkins |

We really loved checking out the many springs in the park and tasting the differences.
Wished we would have known they give tours of the springs starting after Memorial Day. You need to call the park and arrange before you go. Also you could golf there they have a huge golf course. They have a hotel on the grounds too. The Roosevelt spa is open and you can still make appointments to soak in a tub of hot mineral spring water. The grounds were amazing with trails and picnic areas. You could just spend the day there.

Pretty creeks and water spouts

By lebleen |

We were passing through the area and found this State Park online had good reviews. I'm glad we stopped to walk and hike. The staff at the entrance was very helpful in recommending a good route to see the geyser, water spout and water creek and spring areas. It was relaxing and peaceful.

“Springs Tour”

By KymJulia |

We visited Saratoga Spa State Park on the recommendation of the visitors center.A list of activities for the day was posted and the Springs tour was one of them . Ken met us at the Creekside Classroom and took us out on a guided tour. We went to 6 different Springs and tasted each. What fun and very interesting. Ken did a great job explaining the history of the park and Springs, and how the various springs were formed and what contributed to the different tastes. It was only the 2 of us, being off season and cloudy. Thanks Ken! We had a good time.

Great park and a hidden gem

By David G |

We came up for the Roosevelt SPA which is in the park. Great place to visit, walk, bike, play golf or tennis. Even more to do for couples and the family.

Lucky find

By djet17 |

We were staying next door and stumbled on this park for a run. We ended up going on a much longer run through the park. The trails seem endless and are almost all fully shaded.

Hotel a disappointment town and State Park fun

By Carol H |

We stayed at the Gideon Putnam that was a huge disappointment in need of a refresh everything in the public areas was very shabby. The front desk was seriously under staffed and badly managed
The town was fun an arty foodie town with some interesting shops
The State was lovely and nice to hike. The racetrack was dark on Monday and Tuesday so our timing could have been better
With the exception of the hotel we had pleasant visit

Beautiful area

We were there on a Sunday and brunch at the Gideon Putnam and after brunch we walked thru the park. There are lots of trails to wander down and plenty of people riding bikes or walking their dogs. We also went by the baths where President Roosevelt use to visit but they were closed. The Park is beautifully maintained, safe and a great place to take a leisurely walk.

Hidden Gem

By MarieCaruso333 |

Great spot for everyone. Provides great walking trails- lots of activities going on to create a wonderful location to get outside and get some fresh air.

Beautiful and calming setting.

By JTO_10 |

Understated and tranquil park with a lot of history. Flat running and cycling paths. Great for strolls in the sun and shade.

Minerals!

By Margaret M |

We took a mineral bath and sampled the mineral springs at Saratoga Spa State Park. Both were really fun. The mineral bath (40 minutes) was very relaxing. And it was interesting to be in the old "treatment" building. But drinking from the mineral springs was the best! Didn't know there were so many "flavors" of mineral water. We sampled around 8 or 10 different springs, and they all have different flavors, amounts of carbonation, etc. Well worth trying them. Remember to bring a cup or something to drink out of with you. At #5 (Hayes Spring) make sure to sniff the carbon dioxide to clear out your sinuses. Just don't get too close to the pipe!

Golf

By James D |

Really nice course at a reasonable price. We only played the back nine and I hear the front is harder with more water.

Very Well Maintained Park

By Traveler_200950 |

While parts are closed due to Covid, the trails are VERY WELL maintained. it is a pleasant place to picnic and also try Saratoga Spring water directly from the park tap.

Great place for a walk or run

This is a gem inside of the outskirts of S Springs. the trails are great and the fresh air is the best.

Beautiful Grand Park!

By Felixberto E |

We walked all over this beautiful park last Sunday! We would like to bike this park the next time! We could cover more of this very grand big park, on our bikes. The walk was very nice, we got to see the Spa, the geyser, and walked along the river stream! We also tasted the nice spring water, could only cover some parts of the park as it is very large, enjoyed the beautiful grand buildings and it reminds us of the European grand parks! We enjoyed it immensely! We will be back to see more of this beautiful park!

Beautiful park with so much to see!

By ahott2 |

What a beautiful place! From the gorgeous flowers planted at the entrance to the peaceful woods we loved this park. There is actually quite a lot to see here and the park is full of walking trails. We parked near the baths and walked from there into the woods to hit the Vale of Springs trail. The trail is not long or difficult, but very interesting as you can visit a number of the open springs in the park. Make sure to bring a cup for tasting! I have never visited springs before so was surprised they were just open and constantly pumping water. We tried all the available ones-they range from delicious, cold fresh water (State Seal) to very salty to tasting like iron. The Orenda Springs tufa (mineral deposit from the spring) was just amazing to look at and even climb up. The geyser spring almost looks fake, but reminded us of a much smaller Old Faithful. We saw locals filling containers with the fresh spring water and wished we had our own jugs to fill!

The park also has an auto museum, dance museum and the local outdoor arts/concert venue to check out!

Taste (and Spit) the Natural Spring Waters

By Forest-Hills-Cynic |

Saratoga owes its existence to the natural carbonated spring waters. Their origin lay in the Devonian Era (before land animals) 460 million years ago. When sea creatures died, their shells piled up on the ocean floor. As the continents began to coalesce into Pangaea, the Devonian ocean floor began to rise and the shells became covered in silt, which became thick enough to compress the calcium carbonate shells into limestone. Over the ages, the wetted limestone became capped by impenetrable shale rock – sealing in the remnant Devonian ocean & limestone. Eventually the land rose to the level of Saratoga, percolating the whole time, releasing CO2. Then 12,000 years ago there was a major earthquake that cracked the shale cap and the water began bubbling up, picking up minerals on the journey to the surface.

Each spring has a different chemical composition and thus taste. The state has capped each spring with a concrete head that funnels the waters to a convenient spout. Bring a tasting cup to sample each unique spring. Because the water is acidic due to the CO2, quite salty and full of minerals, it is sterile and so safe to drink, but frankly I found it to be unpalatable as apparently the Devonian Ocean was much saltier than the Atlantic and the CO2 much stronger than seltzer. Each spring has a unique small and taste. So I smelled, tasted and spit – like a wine taster.

The Mohawks discovered the healing qualities of each spring: some due to the iodine were anti infective and good for soaking wounds; some due to iron content treated anemia, and others due to the magnesium were effective for constipation.

Western medicine in the 1800’s had not advanced much beyond tribal remedies, so many conditions were treated with the “Waters” taken either in teas or baths. Beautiful bath houses were erected over the springs, many of which are now used as museums.

And thus arose Saratoga Springs. Rich people came for the cool summer airs and for water therapy, built their Victorian Mansions on Union St and brought their horses, which they raced starting in 1863. Thus began the summer racing season in Saratoga Springs. The rest is history.

The NYS Park is relatively flat and has good trails (bike and walk) to visit the museums, springs. It also has picnic areas, golf, disc golf, Par 3 golf, tennis and the concert/stage hall. You can still take the waters at the Roosevelt Bath House [Private Room with a tub filled with heated natural spring water – so you can bathe either in swim suit or au natural as desired – reservation needed].

Great for the family, couples, etc. Bring your own bike as I found the CDPHP rental bikes difficult to ride. First of all the app did not work when following the directions. We were able to free one bike from the rack, but it took us 45 minutes to rent the second bike and could do so only by using a new 2nd cell phone account. The bikes wouldn’t connect to the internet. Even experienced CDPHP Cycle users had difficulty. I know this because there were a bunch at the station all cursing the app.

Then the bikes are small. My 4’ 11” wife had no problem, but at 6’ 4” I was most uncomfortable. I cranked the seat up 7”, but the narrow handlebars pointing straight back, bad brakes, vertical seat tube, short top tube, small pedals, short wheelbase made me feel like I was on an unstable clown bike. I couldn’t get any leverage.

Dog Walking

The park is a great place to walk your dog. I take my dog here frequently. There are miles of trails and she even swims in the creek! Great fun and exercise!

THOUSANDS FROGS DYING, PARK MANAGEMENT AWARE DID NOTHING

By TrailThrasher |

PLEASE READ: I have never been so distressed visiting a park. The park itself is gorgeous, maintained-loved this part of the visit. However, the park staff we connected with about the following event could care less about their wildlife. THOUSANDS OF BABY FROGS ARE DYING IN THE REFLECTION POOL at Saratoga State Park. Go and look and see for yourself, please, and call the Saratoga State Park headquarters. We called numerous times and eventually, with no reply beforehand or being brushed off, got to someone who basically asked us to stop calling and said they ARE AWARE BUT AREN'T GOING TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE. The problem is that the reflection pool (official name of the pool) has straight, tall enough edges with beating down sun the frogs can't escape. Thousands of baby frogs are clinging to the edges, many floating dead, and many on the bottom. You can tell perhaps a few passerby's realized the issue-a few small sticks have been thrown in to which hundreds of frogs immediately have clung. It's so saddening. We spent an hour or so saving as many as we could. I'm still thinking about this weeks later.
**PLEASE CALL THE PARK AT (518) 584-2535 and ask for management to bring up this issue to invoke change.**

In my backyard.

By happytraveler516 |

Many trails for nature walks, two public pools, the performing arts center, the automobile museum, golf, picnic areas, the geysers, historic architecture. The park is simply beautiful and there is always something to enjoy.

PICNIC IN THE PARK

By Buster K |

My wife and I went early to explore the different areas of the park and wound up walking extensively. Beautiful well maintained park. We left and went and got some sandwiches and came back and ate at a picnic table close to the babbling brook that runs through the park.We also check out the Roosevelt Spa. Truly an enjoyable day and the weather was perfectly chilly.

Wish we had more time to enjoy it

By WA2world |

It was record hot the day we were there and the heat dampened the mood. This is a beautiful park and someplace I’d like to spend a lot of time. It was just too hot to enjoy on it the one day we were passing thru town.

We attempted to book a massage, but no times were available for walk-ins. Being too hot to walk the trails and enjoy the trees, we retreated to the air conditioned car and drove to our hotel for an early check-in and nap.

I’d like to go back in cooler weather, but Saratoga Springs, NY is a long way for us. Maybe one day after I retire and I have more time.

Loved it here.

By aquak5 |

We loved the grounds here and were surprised by how much there was to see and how well maintained it was.

A good walk through the park from town if you are seeing a show at SPAC

By rachelevine16 |

Stop by the Museum of Dance and walk through the park to get to the springs or the hotel next to SPAC. It's a nice, easy walk that's flat and has designated paths off of the car traffic.

NY takes care of its state parks!

By MikeEcsedy |

NY takes care of its state parks as far as both maintenance and staffing. We arrived and were greeted by a ranger/docent who led us on a tour of some of the springs. We walked some of the trails (bring bug spray if you're going on the wetlands trail) and checked out some of the historical Saratoga Springs buildings to the north of the park. Various springs on display throughout the park, all different mineral compositions of the water. Runners, picnickers, dog walkers (dogs and young children loved wading in the stream) in abundance. We didn't do the golf but there is a championship course and there is a par-3 course in the park. End the day with a dip in one of the two pools.

All about the water!

What a great park!! So many things to do but our fave was tasting the spring water. Not a lot of signage but we liked it and we met many friendly locals along the way. Beautiful grounds.

Awesome!

By w/thekids |

So i drove into the park and wasn't really sure where to go until I asked someone walking their dog. After paying for parking the man instructed me to where to go to find the free walking tour of the springs. They have free tours from their educational center a few times a day. We made the 1pm walk and we were able to learn sample 5 springs and that was such a cool experience. Didn't taste good but so interesting and educational. I highly recommend and I would def return.

Water tour in the park

By Deb J |

I’ve lived in this area my whole life and didn’t know about this FREE tour at the state park. The great tour took you to six springs and explained benefits of each one with just the right amount of information. The tour starts at the creek side classroom in the park. Tour guide was fantastic.

Wedding at The Hall of Springs

Wedding held at Hall of Springs. Couldn't ask for a better venue. The food, the staff, the historical ambiance was incredible. What a memory for a marriage!

Know before you go

By 17wandalust46 |

We just reserved a spa mineral bath for each of us—but upon entering, the front desk immediately pushed for an upgrade—how about aromatherapy?...according to all the materials, with any service, we were welcome to enjoy the relaxation room—how? Each room has a toilet, and a single mineral bath—no suit necessary. No one offered us bathrobes, and only one set of towels—service was okay. As a first timer, I would have preferred more explanation—I was actually even staying at the Gideon Putnam—we did get a $5 discount—but had I known, I would have brought my bathrobe from the hotel. More communication would enhance the experience.

Beautiful

By Vladimir H |

“Found” this park because we stayed at the Gideon Putnam Hotel. 2400 acres to walk or run around. Many people with their dogs. The springs were awesome to search out and try. Will bring our children back.

Wonderful Location

By Karen C |

how wonderful to have a state park in the town. This is a must visit while in town. You can stay at the histoic Gideon Putnam hotel, eat bruch there, visit the Roosevelt baths for a relaxing mineral bath or get a spa service, play golf on a professional course, eat in the club house, swim in either of the two pools, visit the Auto museum, see a play at the Home Made Theater, taste the mineral water, taste some fresh spring water, have a picnic, or just drive thru. This park has everything including police so drive the speed limit. There are walking pahs, pavillions for gatherings, events you may want to join in - like The Great Pumpkin Challenage held in October to benefit Saratoga Bridges who server the developmentally disabled. And you can do all or most of these things in the winter and summer. It's just beautiful.

Who knew NY had geysers?

By Jo R |

The park is lovely. The trails are well marked with tree tags and blazes. Most of them are pretty level with only a few areas with some fairly minimal elevation changes. But the best part are the springs and geysers. Some are small and smell of iron and sulfur. Others are crystal clear and great for drinking. And the Island Spouter shoots up from an island in the middle of the river. The trail winds along roads, by the river, and through the woods. It is a great place to go prior to hitting the spa for a mineral bath soak.

Beautiful park for many activities

By Ann K |

SPA Park is one of my favorite places to walk and be renewed by nature. I love the springs and the geyser. The path beyond the geyser has a unique rock wall created by minerals in the dripping water. My granddaughter enjoyed the ununusual mushrooms and fungi along the route.
The park is also home to an acoustically wonderful performing arts center and the Peerless pool a joyous place for kids. There is a lot more: picnic sites, golf course, mineral baths and massages, and an indoor performing space the Houseman Theater. Thanks to New York State for this affordable recreation area.

Acres of history and nature

We love New York State Parks and this did not disappoint. Easy trails, full of beauty and history. Enjoy!

Gorgeous trails, historic buildings!

By Revmartie |

What a marvelous park with such variety and so close to a small city. The trails are beautifully maintained with gorgeous tall trees and the stream running through. There are ample picnic tables and places for children to play on good playground equipment. I love that you can stop and try the different fountains where the mineral water comes up. (SOME OF IT IS HORRIBLE TASTING, SO JUST TAKE A SIP AT FIRST TO SEE!) I also loved going to all the old buildings that were constructed in the 1930's. Some of them need work, and restoration is always an ongoing project, but stop in and admire the workmanship of a bygone era. So glad they are still being maintained and used! There are tennis courts for use, and a golf course too. What an amazing park!

A great place to get away from it all

By Ben B |

We'd been driving quite a while and needed to stretch our legs in Saratoga Springs. This state park was a great place. It's quite large, so you really get a sense of being in nature. They have many facilities and trails. We didn't know what the "Springs" referred to and the information signs were great at explaining the fascinating history here. Glad they were able to preserve the unique geology.

Serenity

By Gseaman55 |

This is a beautiful park. It has lots of areas to explore and walking paths. Most of all it has several natural springs. Make sure to bring a cup to taste and a bottle to fill. You meet alot of nice people around the springs!

Very Nice Park

By Saluga |

This is a very large and beautiful park. The Visitor Center and museums were closed because of the virus, but the trails and restrooms were open. We walked the five mile trail which was well marked and easy. Admission is $10 per car, but parking for the trailhead is located before the pay station.

Beautiful Park

By The Five Road Trippers 🚙🎡🎢🧳 |

This is the nicest state park I've been to in New York. The grass is very green. Their facilities are very well maintained. I did see the golf course which was also very well maintained. On the grounds is a high end spa hotel, dance museum, and a automotive museum

Frustrating Gem!

By Snorkelbear |

This is a real GEM! But... We found the total lack of signage very frustrating. While there are large signs directing you as you drive in, once you get out of your car to explore the park and grounds you are on your own.

We finally found the Info Office and we were handed the same vague map we got from the ticket taker and pointed in the general direction of the Springs. What could have been an enjoyable hike from Spring to Spring was a frustrating maze of unmarked trails and very limited signage. Only a handful of the Springs had names or informational signage.

Unless you want to go on a guided ranger tour. Be prepared to wander and miss out on most of what this great park has to offer.

Great visit, be prepared to way find on your own!

By LST2323 |

Really excellent state park - beautiful with lots going on. There are golf courses if that is your thing, picnic areas and lawns, a number of trails, several tourist attractions, and so forth. Very dog and kid friendly!

I mostly visit parks for the trails and outdoor space and I had a great time walking this one. But I never knew where I was. All of the maps show only a portion of the park. None of them match up. There are no directional signs for trails (there are colored tree markers, but nothing at intersections and no guide to what the markers mean.) I came across one trail sign that wasn't on the map anywhere. I wanted to visit hte nature center, but that wasn't on the maps either.

Great hikes

By GMBG |

Great hiking and fun to check out the actual springs. The architecture of the historic building is wonderful. A great way to spend a few hours

Unique

By Chris T |

Incredibly unique park and dramatic entrance with the avenue of the pines. Easy to get to and navigate as well.

Trails, springs, & more

By Marie M |

Beautiful trails for walking, biking. Streets also are wide enough for pedestrians and bikes. Geyer area was worth the trip. Various mineral springs to taste and nice walking trail along Geyser Creek. Locals flock here for the State Seal Spring- taste like NYC water to me only other rival that comes close is the High Rock Spring in High Rock Park.
4 stars as bathrooms were closed and construction was being done which made navigating to the spring area a bit confusing on foot.

Must Go on the Guided Tour with Ken!

By Meghan |

I highly recommend going on a (free!) guided tour with Ken. He gave a highly informative and interesting tour. Even my children enjoyed the tour.

Historic natural Park

Gorgeous state park with walking and biking paths all around. Several natural
spring water sources and excellent bird watching. Wonderful experience in
all four seasons!

A park for the people

By genem54 |

This park has something for people of all ages. The people of Saratoga and the state of New York deserve credit for maintaining a treasure like this.

so lucky to live so close!

By Rachael R |

we love Saratoga State Park! It's a true local gem & we are so lucky to live close by. You could spend hours exploring!

Interesting Experience

By KFS_386 |

The park is massive and houses a museum, golf course, nature trails, and other amenities. If using GPS, enter the exact sights you want to see (for instance Geyser Trail).

Amazing park

By sightingsarah |

This place is worth the visit. The town is lovely, but this place is a must see. Walk around, check out the spa and enjoy the scenery. :)

Large Park

By Carol Ann J |

Saratoga Spa State Park is a large park with various things to do, including museums, hiking trails, and spa. It is a great place to exercise, walk the dog, or bring the children. Seeing the different springs was a bonus.

small state park, but very nice

By Bob D |

We spent a couple of hours here on a recent Saturday. There are a number of short hikes , and one loop that is over 2 miles. Be aware, this is not a wilderness experience much of the hikes are in site of roads or structures. We took the 30 minute springs tour and learned about the geology of the park, and sampled the waters. Very nice.

Beautiful Park

By Kay B |

What a great tradition that is well maintained. My husband and I enjoy old cars and the Auto Museum was worth the time to see. We also had our first ever mineral bath at The Roosevelt Bath and Spa very relaxing.

A great FREE way to see nature.

By Blondie1025 |

Beautiful trails to walk, run and to ride your bike. Mineral springs for a true taste of Saratoga "springs". The health, history and horses prevails here.

Beautiful

By Family Travels |

We were so happy to have stopped here for a wonderful afternoon stroll. Well kept grounds and care taken to ensure safety for visitors

Good way to cool off

By Trish A |

We all enjoyed playing in the Peerless pool which is geared to kids (Victoria just a pool for adults). The water was really nice and part of the pool shallow enough for our 5 year old to have some freedom. If you go after 4pm you don’t have to pay the $8 car entry fee. The Peerless pool is a bargain at $2 for adults and $1 for kids. There are clean changing and showering facilities.
After our swim we drive over to the Creekside education center where we could walk over to the sprouted geyser and about 6 other Springs all within a couple minutes walk of the parking lot.

Unexpected Treasure

By LongIsland1029 |

We took a free tour of the springs with a guide who works for the park. Each spring has its own history and is incredibly unique. We sampled each spring’s water and learned the medicinal and curative properties of each spring. Fascinating! This is a “must do.” It’s both incredibly interesting and beautiful.

Not Worth It

By BatchFam |

This is different from Congress Park. It’s massive, houses the bath house and the auto museum. Not walkable u less you’re hiking. Not what we expected. Congress Park has the sidings near by and very walkable.

Beautiful & Serene - Oh the joy of nature!

By Maggie A |

Saratoga Spa State Park is such a beautiful and serene park to visit. It's pretty large and you may need more than one day to see what the entire park offers. I stopped by on my way back to New York City from Montreal this past summer and got to enjoy some quite time while sipping some fresh cold spring water from one of the wells. Oh the joy of nature!

Beautiful trails
