Panoramic ocean view of the City of Ventura, California.

By John S |

Drive up the hill from Downtown Ventura with the family. Take a picnic lunch. Enjoy the fabulous view! Parking is free. Please don't leave any trash in the park. It's one of the quiet treasures of California.

Great Views

By Polaroids & Drinkin Stories |

I was nearby hitting up Salzer’s Records and decided to drive up the hill to see this spot. It’s a nice small park with amazing views of the coastline. A large cross is the center piece but really the views are what you come for. In the back of the parking lot there is a dirt trail to climb higher up.

Old Cross, Old Memories

By DrChipB |

When I first came to Ventura in November 1958 as a 13 year old kid, one of the first scenes I remember fondly is the "Cross" on the hill above the old Mission San Buenaventura that was the last mission founded by Father Juniper Serra (now Saint since 2015) in his historic expeditions up the coast of southern California along what is known as "El Camino Real," or the King's Highway. My friends, several of whom went to Holy Cross School at the Old Mission, and I would regularly ride our bicycles up the winding marcadem road that leads from a steep alley on the west side of the old Courthouse to the Cross, or we would climb the steep slopes from Ventura Avenue to the ridge leading to the cross. From up there, one gets the best and most complete view of the entire city of Ventura, as well as the series of "Channel Islands" that dominate the horizon on clear days (during foggy days, you've have no idea these giant land masses are even out there). The cross is not as old as the mission (founded in the 1700s) but its history is connected to the earliest days of the historic Spanish settlement. Great view, great artifact to visit. Simple but beautiful. Genuinely an old rugged cross.

Vacation

Located at the top of the hill with a great view of the ocean and surroundings. Proves that church and state can co-exist.

Came across this by chance

By Kirsten M |

This is where I ended up on my way to the Ventura Botanical Gardens. The park was okay. I didn't see anything special about it except the nice view of the ocean.

Best seat you will find in Ventura!

By terrynkathy |

Always a nice spot to take in the view! Areas for a picnic are available and a great place to watch the sunset. Evenings can be sketchy but the area is patrolled.

Stunning Views!

By rocky v |

This beautiful park high on a hill above Ventura California offers up a stunning view of the city and ocean. The cross is very impressive in size and can provide a peaceful place to meditate and reflect.

Great walk with amazing views

By Triker T |

The best way to do this is to walk up the stairs starting from the Mission then up the road to the Cross gives you a good work out and you can stop and look back at the views that you get of the city , coast and the ocean.

Stunning View and Great Hikes

By Tyskyr |

What an amazing park and such a picturesque view of Downtown Ventura. You can see views from all around. You can either drive to the top for easy access or there are plenty of trails for hiking in the area.

Amazing Views - A must See

By Kal4948 |

Serra Cross Park is a wonderful place to visit. We use to 'Hike to the Cross. Depending on which way you choose, depends on the difficulty on the hike. There are no bathrooms. Smart to bring a walking partner and water. There are Mountain Lions that live in that area. Although in all the years I've been here, I have never seen one at that park. Its always a nice place to view the Ventura Fair Fireworks In August or just a place to get a way and relax.

Great view and just 5 minutes away from downtown

By Suzanne C |

We visited Serra Park Cross park on a hazy afternoon last week but it was certainly worth the short drive up the hill. Due to the fire near Santa Barbara, ash was starting to fall and the visibility was not great. I can only imagine how beautiful the view out to the Channel Islands would be on a clear day. There were several vantage areas with benches as well.

Beautiful view of the city

By Alexandre H |

We went up this high part of Ventura with the goal of seeing the city from above and it was excellent. Entrance is free. From there, you can see the city, the beaches, the pier and the islands. Beautiful visual.

Beautiful views and the serenity of a special place.

By Lorraine M |

On a clear day the views from the Cross are amazing! We were there most recently in August and were able to spot the ferris wheel at the Fairgrounds down below. The pier and the curved coastline are lovely to look at. A short walk down to the cross, which commemorates Father Serra, is a peaceful pastime. A large tree with a huge canopy provides shade if you'd rather sit on the lawn and look out to the surroundings hills.

beautiful views!

By Brittany W |

This is a really great spot to check out if your in ventura for a short visit or even if you have lived here and never been. Its a little tough to find if you dont know where your going. as you drive up the "botanical gardens" are very lackluster. I dont recommend going for this alone. Once you get to the cross the view is very nice. you can see the channel islands on a clear day and almost all the way to oxnard. They also hold weddings and other things up there, they were having a wedding while we were up that at sunset, beautiful spot for a wedding!

Beautiful Vistas

By Alice F |

We ran out of time to hike the trial from the Botanical Gardens up to the Cross so just drove up the scenic road to the top. The view was fabulous even on a hazy day. A lovely surprise was that a young man had arranged a marriage proposal at the overlook and had set up flowers and decorations. We of course, didn't stay for the main event, but it was so sweet to see the work he'd gone to.

Praise God!!!

By dawglovr |

the best way to view the city. Beautiful during the day. Undescribable night view!!! Absolutely breathtaking!!! One of those moments that "take your breath away". A must see when in Ventura!!!!

View as far as your eye can see!

By EvelynSpeaks |

The Cross sitting on top of the hill in Ventura has tons of history. And the park is a beautiful lawn and tree park with a view that will make you think you are a bird flying high in the sky. You can see as far as Oxnard, the road to Santa Barbara, Ojai and Thousand Oaks while you see the Ventura Pier and even the islands. This is a must stop for those who are either visiting Ventura or live here. Don't miss it. You will love it.

Lovely views is all directions

By Amelia H |

This is a fantastic park. Not only can you see the cross dedicated to father Serra who founded the mission below this hill, you can see for miles in every direction. This would be a great place to see fireworks but unfortunately it closes at dusk. It also makes a lovely place to take pictures and I believe you can rent it out for weddings. nice place

Best view in Ventura!

By HoundHippy |

We got married at the cross over 20 years ago. The view is incredible especially at sunset. Parking is limited.

Spectacular Sunset

By Jeff M |

amazing that the cross was placed on the hill in 1782. Nice park with great views of the sunset. A lot of people taking photos. Free and plenty of parking. Well worth a visit.

Nice view of Ventura County

By Guy G |

The park has a great view to ocean and Ventura county. At times could be very windy but worth the view.

view is awesome

By Baopham316 |

drive going up is pretty neat. view is amazing, not something you'd expect for the area. drive up after a day at the beach, 10 minutes is all you need.

Views!

By Luke M |

One of the best viewing points I've found of downtown Ventura. We like to park off of Main Street and hike up to it then continue on to the botanical gardens which are just a short hike further.

Great Coastal View

By Karen A |

First time to see the coastal view from this spot in Ventura. Beautiful view of north and south of the city. Highly recommend at sunset. Also had nice hiking trails.

A walk in the park Plus.

By Lvig007 |

Many drive to this beautiful lookout but those of us who hate the gym hike up from downtown for exercise. Whether it's for exercise, the 180 degree view of ocean and Channel Islands or just to feel what the Birdseye cute over Downtown Ventura this is the best view in Ventura. Walk frinv the Mission, from Main Street, from gorgeous City Hall. For a real challenge follow Kalorama Street down over the foot bridge across the freeway to the end of the pier and then to the river uo to Main Street then up to the cross and that is five miles of urban, mountain, pier, ocean and river!! Oh and the historic cross is on the marine charts and hosts weddings and other photo shoots as well as hobbyists flying their gliders rivaling the spiralling birds.

Great view of the coast and town

By BJRSanDiego |

The park is located at the end of a windy road. It has great views of the town, the agricultural plots, the ocean and - - if it is a clear day - - of the channel islands. It is worth going to with your camera. Also, it is free.

Gorgeous views!

By Rick M |

I have grown up in the area and been to the "Cross" literally hundreds and hundreds of times. That view never gets old. Free to drive up and look around. All there is to see is the view but it is spectacular! On a clear day you can see the city, coastline and islands. It used to be open all night long, I'm not sure if it still is, but be aware of your surroundings if you go up at night. Crime isn't much of a problem in Ventura but the kids used to hang out up there and drink so be safe!

The View

By rahymapadron |

I love coming here just for the view. It's very peaceful and quiet up there far from the noises of the city. There is also plenty of parking. It's not my first time visiting, so I knew my way around. The road to the top is very narrow, but not long so it's not bad. You can also hike up there if you want. This spot is perfect for a picnic, there are benches and tables to sit at and just relax. On one side you can see Ventura and on the other Ojai. I love it!

Amazing View!!

By Snowbabies1 |

This is a must when visiting Ventura, easy to find and worth the drive. Views are 360degrees from the hills to the ocean and beyond! There is a constant trickle of visitors but never intrusive and never too many giving you an opportunity to enjoy the view and the solitude on top of a mountain!!

Glad we ventured out to see this.

By vacationrooms |

took an afternoon drive up the mountain and the view from here was spectacular. Was a little tricky to get to, Siri instructions were more difficult than location map.

Spectacular views

By sgs312 |

This is located above city hall Adjacent to the Ventura Botanical Gardens. The Gardens are under development. Mainly a nice walking trail with some plants at present time.

Lovely views and hiking.

By Nataleec7 |

We enjoyed a quick drive up from downtown ventura to enjoy the view up here. It was beautiful. Very quiet and tranquil. Theres some hiking trails and we enjoyed exploring the area.
You end up by the botanical gardens area and can just walk back up. You do pass a firing range and we saw some empty shells up there but it was closed on the day so we enjoyed the peace and quiet.
Only a few people around when we were there and they were all friendly.

Beautiful view!

By Lena L |

A gorgeous view of Ventura. A must have for family and friends when visiting! I go periodically just to take it all in...

“Beautiful Panoramic Ocean View”

By Buzzard100 |

This is a very short ride just beyond downtown Ventura in the hills. While the road is closed before the Serra Cross, it is an easy walk to the peak and likely one of the most spectacular views in the area.

A fantastic spot to watch the sunset or share a picnic lunch.

Best View!

By MediaByte |

You can actually drive here if do not want to hike the scenic trail. IT'S THE BEST VIEW IN VENTURA. Hiking, though, takes you through the newly developed Ventura Botanical Gardens.

Fantastic Views, Lovely Park

By Koda |

Just discovered this little gem after years of going to Ventura. The views are stunning and the cross is lovely, set on a nicely landscaped area with a lovely tree to the side - a great place for a picnic which some other folks were having. Plenty of nice benches for sitting and enjoying the view. Definitely worth the short drive up.

Your best view of Ventura

By DonaldYokum |

When I've got visitors from out of town, this is the first place that I take them to show off our jewel of a city. The view encompasses the downtown area, the West Side, where the city was born, and a lot of the midtown area. Plus, you get a great view of the Channel Islands! Then there's the historical aspect of the Serra Cross, the original having been erected at the direction of Padre Serra himself to mark the location of the Mission for passing mariners. The workmanship of the Japanese masons who constructed the stone ramparts at the top of the stairs leading down to the cross is notable also. A great place to show off the city!

Utterly Breath-taking!

By QuickWhitTravel |

My friends brought me up here the other day, and it was completely beautiful from every side! It's on a mountain overlooking the ocean, Ventura, and the desert mountains. I wish we could have stayed up here all day. What a beautiful spot!

Beautiful View

By psalyer2014 |

Drive up the hill for a great view of the islands and the City of Ventura. The cross memorializes to 100 anniversay of Serra's founding of the Ventura Mission. The cross itself is now nearing 100 years old.

Park with a View

By pirategirl27 |

Beautiful little park with an awesome view of Ventura and the ocean. We go up there every time before we go home. So peaceful and pretty.

Wonderful Views

By Dan W |

This park is so very close to Ventura proper that one should not miss it! The views are wonderful - on a clear day you can see to the Channel Islands.

Beautiful View!

By Bill H |

Nice day and you can see the entire coastline of Ventura, Ca.! Well maintained flowers and shrubbery.

Get view from here. Awesome place to relax and clear your head. Pray, dream or just relax. Must go to at least once

Winding road to a great view.

By CaliAllison |

A great stop for a bit of hiking. It's just a great way to see the city from an almost birds eye view! When hiking above the cross area, be careful not to stumble on the hidden homeless camps. Scared the heck out of me.

Great views

By Savcat |

Short winding road leads up to the cross and the fabulous views over the town and coast. We'd read that is was very windy but we were lucky that it wasn't bad at all. Nice atmosphere, not too busy and enough parking spaces (free).
You can hike up too if you prefer. Glad we made the trip to see the views.

Hidden Gem!

By Caroline L |

This is my absolute favorite place to come in Ventura! Why? Because you will behold the most breathtaking views of the ocean, pier, and town below. Situated up above City Hall, this park is a bit unknown to most because it's not visible from below. To get to it, you need to take the road to the left of city hall (if facing City Hall) and follow it up the hillside about 1/2 mile. What looks to be a parking lot at the end will actually be where you can step down to the grassy area complete with a picnic table, a huge wooden cross dedicated to the missions/father Serra, and many beautiful flowers. The view of the ocean and coastline from here is nothing less than spectacular. This is probably the most tranquil spot you can find just above the busy Main Street below. There are small small hiking trails here too so I'd recommend good walking shoes and sunscreen. Oh, and don't forget the camera!

Vista Buena

By Robert B |

The cross is the main attraction but the view is spectacular. Do yourself a favor, walk up. It's a steep climb but worth it.

Outstanding Ventura View

By Ed J |

Serra Cross Park is one of the highest areas to view the magnificent coast line of Ventura. The Botanical Garden Trail is also a very good and easy hike. The Ventura Botanical Garden, entrance located at the rear of the beautiful City Hall building off California Street, is a very beautiful place to visit., Great views and adventures... and free...

Views, Views, Views

By Klooster5 |

Very serine with fantastic views. We visited here 2 years ago when we were in Ventura and it is the only place our teenager asked to re-visit this trip.

Excellent Viewpoint Over Ventura

By classic1903 |

Wonderful job of restoration by the Conservancy after the terrible fires in Ventura in December 2017. Great viewpoint of the greater Ventura area and the Pacific Coast.

a little peace of heaven

By Marilyn F |

can't beat the views ..it is kept clean and I feel close to God when i go there ...a beautiful place to relax with a friend or by yourself to just enjoy the view

See Ventura and beyond from a lovely park setting

By Mike L |

If you're visiting Ventura, you owe yourself a stop at Serra Cross Park. It is a short drive up a fun steep and winding road. Partway up the ascent, you can pull to the shoulder and catch the view off to the East, overlooking Ventura, Oxnard and off to Camarillo. Once you make it to the top, park the car (or bike, whatever!) and walk down to the actual park where the old Cross stands. From here you will have an amazing panoramic view of the ocean, the city, and beyond. If you just want to see an amazing view of the Ventura area, get on up to Serra Cross Park.

Great for weddings

By JnRA3 |

My sister and her husband got married there before the fire and it was absolutely beautiful. The pictures that were taken all had stunning views of the ocean. Even the simple ones near and under the tree came out gorgeous.

Great place to get your mind right

By Kevin Corbett |

The view is incredible, there are walking trails and the near by Botancal Gardens trail, Not strenuous.

Serra cross

By Laurie F |

Glad I came across this little park. Go at sunset! It has some awesome views of the town below, the ocean and some of the vineyards off the hills in the distance.

The View Goes On Forever

By CWS55 |

If you want the perfect view of the coastline from Ventura all the way down to Point Magu Rock, this is the place. An easy drive up from downtown Ventura. Beautiful park with a cross at the top of the hill with a 180 degree view. Pack a picnic lunch. It can be very windy so pack a windbreaker at the minimum. You can enjoy the view from the parking lot or take a few easy steps down to the park and cross. Free parking. Twisty windy road to get up there but easy in any car.

Spectacular views

By Mitch M |

The view from the top is spectacular. You are overlooking the Channel Islands, the beach and the City of Ventura. The drive up is on a narrow winding road so it is a slow go but there is parking at the top. The cross itself isn’t all that special unless you are into historical references or construction techniques.

Just as popular as "Two Trees" to someone from Ventura but you can actually drive to it.

By Jedimasterkush |

The cross has been around for a looong time. I can remember back in the very early 80's (when I was a super young pup) when they stopped crusin on main street people would flock up here to go and drink beers, etc. on Friday/Saturday nights. Lots of good memories up here through the years. Best views to take in Ventura. Bring your cameras or binoculars with you for some great scenery and shots especially when there are scant clouds during a sunset. Great view of anacapa island too on a clear day.

You couldn't ask for a better view.

By petraso1 |

A beautiful little park with a spectacular veil of the Pacific and the city of Ventura. It was one of my favorite places we visited on our trip th Ventura

A must-do for incredible views!

By Lauren W |

We stumbled across this lookout after hiking up through the Botanical Gardens. My husband and I couldn’t believe we previously didn’t know this cute little park and lookout was here. Offers 360 degree views of the ocean, the islands, Oxnard and Port Hueneme, Ventura, and the hills back toward Ojai. Perfect for a panoramic shot or family photo.

Beautiful views but...

By Tashia |

The road to get there was really steep however once you start winding around those roads it's beautiful. The view is simply breathtaking. The only negative thing here is the open drug.use, drinking, loud music, and smell of pee.

What A View!

By MidwestLiketoTravel |

The view of the ocean and city of Ventura is worth the short drive up to Serra Cross Park. Obviously, you can also walk it if you wish. Once there, you get 360 degree views but the ocean and beaches right in front of the cross are impressive. On the Sunday morning we were there, it was a mix of people from popup yoga aficionados to dog walkers to meditators to tourists like us. There were plenty of benches to sit and enjoy the view. Lots of plant life here allows for many bees and hummingbirds to partake in the nectars (and be available for pictures). Although this morning was slightly hazy, we could still see a couple of the Channel Islands in the distance.

Magnificent Sunset view

By regis k |

What a view of the Ventura beach and the city. This vantage point also has the best view of the sunset in Ventura. Erected by Mission Buenaventura, one of several Missions planted by Father Junipero Serra in the 1700’s, this highly visible cross served as a road sign for travelers in search of the Mission. The cross has been lost to elements many times, but it is always replaced and continues to stand above Ventura. Today, this Cross is still a land mark in Ventura city and the land where the cross sits was dedicated as Serra Cross Park within Grant Park recently.

We had passed by this area many times on our way to Santa Barbara but never had a chance to visit here. Today, being the weekend, we finally decide to come to Venture to visit the pier and the Serra Cross Park. After, finished walking on the pier and had lunch, we drove about 10 minutes to reach the Cross Park.

What a view!! From the park, we had a panoramic view of the city and the beach. Since this is part of Grant Park, we hiked to take advantages of many great trails at Grant Park. We planned that we would hike first before coming back to the Cross Park to enjoy the sunset in the evening.

There are several hiking trails at Grant Park. We chose the one that goes up from the Cross Park. Once we reached the top, we had another magnificent view of the mountains and the beach. That view was just awesome.

After the hike, we came down to the Cross Park around 7PM just in time to see the sunset. With the amazing white scale-like clouds, the sunset view from this vantage point was just spectacular with red and orange colors splashed all over the hills surrounding the Cross. We saw many people were just sitting around the benches over the Park, rejoicing and totally emerging in the beauty of the sunset scenery. What a way to end a day!

There are many parking spots at the Park and you can park your car along the road as well.

Amazing views

By Claudia R |

As most everyone here has mentioned, there are amazing views here. The drive up is short, plenty of parking on a weekday morning. The park itself is huge but at the top it ends at a cul de sac for parking.

The ocean and mountain views are breathtaking. There are hiking trails up to this view and around the spot to go higher. Seating is available to sit & relax for a while. It was definitely worth the drive and the time and a great way to say goodbye to Ventura.

FREE VIVACIOUS VIEWS AVAILABLE HERE

Sweeping coastline and city views. Great location to hike or bike. There are a few scattered pic-nic tables in the shade

Beautiful Views

By Captain_Rick1 |

I've been going to the cross for many years to enjoy the views of Ventura and the Santa Barbara channel with its islands. Even the view off the west side looking out towards the valley to Ojai is breathtaking. I highly recommend this stop as a must see while in Ventura.

What a view!

By KCJ44 |

This spot was recommended by a friend who grew up in Ventura and it is well worth the stop. The views are amazing! Its a place you can come to pray, read, enjoy the views and relax. The Serra Cross, which has stood on the site since World War II. It survived the Thomas Fire in 2017.It was easy to believe since everything around the cross at Grant Park, including power lines, was destroyed.
The original cross was placed on the hill in 1782. Over the years, the original cross and replacements were lost to the elements. The current cross has stood atop the hill since 1941.

A beautiful view and a taste of Ventura history.

By Jason S |

The Serra Cross is a piece of Ventura history. Not only was this used as a landmark, it brings us beautiful location to have lunch and take family pictures. You can spend a rewarding 30 minutes there just to reset the mind over the magnificent beach views or spend a couple hours doing pictures and having lunch with the family. It makes for a wonderful meeting place for motorcycle runs and car clubs.

My advice is to read about the cross online before you go. It makes for a more interesting vist.

Fantastic Views

By MikeInClairemont |

Worth the climb. The views of the islands and the ocean as well as the surrounding countryside make it worth the hike up there.

Worth a Quick Drive

By Elaina E |

Best view of Ventura. Take a quick trip up to see the views of the water, mountains, farming and the island out a ways.

Great View!

By Sonshine2000 |

The park recently reopened after being closed since the Thomas Fire (Dec '17). The area around the cross has been re-landscaped with terraces of diverse beautiful selections of new plants in full bloom which will only get better as they fill in over time. There are several benches conveniently placed for looking out over the city and valley. Of course, the view of the ocean and cityscape is spectacular as always. The recent spring rains have ignited a barrage of vibrant yellow and green across the hills near and far. If you walk along one of the paths, you'll find a variety of other flowers hidden amongst the profuse mustard flowers. A popular spot, so parking can be limited on occasion but wait a bit as people are always coming & going; or park a little further below in a pull-off area & walk back up.

The Grand View

By swamijim |

On a clear day, you can see forever from here... even out to the Channel Islands some 12-15 miles offshore! As well, you get about a 300-degree view of Ventura which is just a few hundred feet below your outlooks. There's the beautiful sweep of the oceanfront from southwest of Ventura clear down around the bend to Oxnard... Stay a moment... be quiet... listen to the sounds below: The hustle and bustle of the city... the rush of traffic on U.S. 101... Amtrak passing through on the Union Pacific Railroad's Coast Line... activities at the Ventura Fairgrounds. There is nothing commercial about this place... it's a great location for a midday picnic or just for a few moments of getaway time.

Serra Cross Ventura

By Jim K |

Always a joy to visit the cross and enjoy the view of the city of Ventura, the pier, the ocean, and the islands, no matter the weather.

Stunning Views!

By smr+JMJ |

A visit to Ventura has to include views from this park! The coastline of Ventura can been seen as well as the Downtown and Westside of Ventura, the older part of town. On a cloudless day (more in wintertime) the Channel Islands can be seen. Take California exit off of the 101, head up to City Hall, turn left onto Poli St. Turn immediate right at the 1st steep street as Poli St curves to the right and just follow the winding road to the top pass hillside condos! The 1st Saturday of May annually, San Buenaventura Mission has Mass there at 8:15 AM... public is invited.

Absolutely gorgeous views of Ventura and the Pacific

By George O |

Our group went at 10 am and thoroughly enjoyed the experience! The views of Ventura and the valley along with the Pacific Ocean are incredible. It was very peaceful and well kept. Use caution on the road.

Gorgeous view!

By Cheri |

Visiting friends, we were encouraged to visit Serra Cross Park. What an experience - highly recommend. There were multiple parking areas, places to walk, great and I mean GREAT photo opportunities, and on a clear day, can see very far. We even enjoyed the flowers and watching the hummingbirds flittering back and forth, enjoying the nectar. Just a beautiful opportunity to spend time enjoying nature.

Hidden gem!

By Sun4me247 |

Just above the Ventura City Hall is a beautiful winding road that leads to spectacular views and this beautiful cross that commemorates the Franciscan Order that first erected a cross here in 1793, I believe. So worth the short drive from the coast!

Beautiful spot overlooking Ventura

By Bill B |

Just drive a few minutes north from Downtown Ventura and you are in a gorgeous natural area overlooking Ventura, the pier, the ocean, and some islands (I guess they are the Channel Islands).

Great views

By georgemaxson |

A must see for any visitor. Try it during a storm its the best. On a clear day you can see for miles and miles. You could take a picnic and there are hiking trails near by as well.

The Cross in Ventura,CA

By Laurie Z |

Most amazing view of the City, beaches, islands, with lots of hiking trails! We take anyone new to our area breathtaking!

the best place to see sunset

By gardener4313 |

At the top of Grant Park is the Father Serra Cross area. Not only is there a cross, but a Japanese stonemason built, without mortar, two structures next to the stairs. Idiots have removed some of the small stones so I hope the structures will survive.

Go at sunset and disturb all the young lovers. It is worth it

Loved the view from this place

By Barbara S |

You can see the entire Ventura coastline ad beyond. I went early in the day with hubby, and sat on bench overlooking everything while I spent time in prayer and meditation. It was a great spot. So peaceful....until a lady in a big SUV came along playing loud music with explicit lyrics. It was really vulgar, but it is a public space and it really couldn't be helped that someone showed up without a need to show courtesy to others in the area.

Most visitors were moderately quiet and considerate of others who were in a more contemplative mood. The large cross has a way of encouraging that.

so pretty to see our city

By MATTOX23 |

what a great place to go to very quiet and good place to take lunch to and just look around thanks ventura

Must see

By Tugboater |

The best view in Ventura bar none. Views of city, ocean, islands, mountains and up the valley of Ventura Avenue. By far the best way to see the beauty of Ventura.

Wedding held at the cross

By Ryder’sleash |

It was the most spectacular day and the the view was outstanding while our friends exchanged their vows at the cross. We had ocean breezes and island views for what couldn't have been the most beautiful wedding I've ever witnessed. If you've never gone for a a drive up to the cross pack a picnic lunch and make a day of hiking and people watching you will never forget the outstanding views of downtown Ventura.

View of Ventura from the Cross

By Rickard W |

Best views at sunrise and sunset are during the winter when there is less moisture in the air. ....super clear views of the Channel Islands during the winter. A must to see Ventura from this vantage point.

Amazing View of Ventura

By Ronald A |

Not often one can look straight down on a city and the Pacific Ocean. Plenty of free parking. Grounds were well kept and litter free.

Nice view

By califcasl |

This park has been the source of major controversy over the years, because there was a cross on public land. There is a lovely view of the town below, the vast Pacific, and the Channel Islands.

Stunning View! An Absolutely MUST See

By CharleySays |

Incredible, breathtaking and jaw dropping. What I can't figure out is how I missed this place for so long. It is a very short drive up the hill to this phenomonel vista. The GPS will work fine and will guide you there. There is plenty of signal for uploading the pictures you will be takong. The vista is sweeping, and wide and is a knockout. Just GO! Bring a picnic as there are tables, or a blanket, as there is a lawn. What ever you like. This is one of my best finds of the year.

Top Ventura Spots

By David B |

This is a must if you're visiting Ventura. On a clear day, you can see the islands, all the way to Malibu up to Conejo Valley and north toward Santa Barbara. And on most any day can see all of Ventura; the outline of the harbor and beaches and the pier. It's a great place to catch a sunset and enjoy the view.

Stunning views of the ocean spread out before you.

By OnParleFrancais |

You drive through the city's Grant Park, and then you enter this private mountain open space with a magnificent view of the Pacific Ocean on one side and the majestic mountains rising on the other. You can also look down and see the pattern of Ventura's streets and try to figure out where everything is in the city. A cross honors Father Junipero Serra of California-mission fame. You can walk your dog or hike on the trails leading to the mountains behind the city.

Classic Ventura Spot

By MadameFoodie |

When locals show friends and family around town, the view from "the Cross" is always on the itinerary. The way to do it: if you're not carrying an engagemenr ring to propose then you should have a burrito in hand. Enjoying the sweeping views while eating a burrito from one of Ventura's fine Mexican food establishments is the true Ventura experience. (Get your burrito at Corrales, Johnny's, Taqueria Vallarta or Lalo's.) On a clear day you can see the Channel Islands, the Oxnard Plain and up the Ventura River Valley to the mountains behind Ojai.

Best views of Ventura

By GwendolynAP |

The best views in Ventura are achieved via a short hike up the Botanic Trail or drive up the hill behind Ventura's beautiful City Hall. The Cross offers views of the beach, the city, and the Pier; on clear days, enjoy incredible views to the Channel Islands National Park. Great place for sunrise or sunset, moonrise or moon set and for picnics. Be sure to walk east to check out the stone walls: stone masons came from around the world to show how to do various techniques used in different cultures; they left the stone walls behind to continue to teach us.

Beautiful View

By Dan C |

One of the places I always take a new visitor to Ventura is Serra Cross on the hill above Ventura. The views of the city, ocean, pier and the surrounding area are beautiful. I always enjoy telling people a little of the history of Ventura and there are plaques around the Cross area that tell a little of the history of the Cross and why it was placed at this location. Few places have such a location to share the beauty and history of a beautiful city like Ventura.

Fabulous View!

By Thorns R |

This is a quiet, beautiful place to check out the view of Ventura and into Oxnard. The view is outstanding! The islands are gorgeous.

It is very peaceful at the Cross. There are plenty of benches to rest your feet. There is also a nice grassy area so you could bring a beach chair or blanket to just lounge around on while taking in the serenity and the view.

Fabulous place to watch the sunset, BTW!!

Best views of the city

By dtwsjw |

Serra Cross Park offers an unparalleled view of the city of Ventura, the coast, and the surrounding hills of the city. This park is one of my most favorite places in the world. The sunsets are beautiful and dramatic from this height. Most people are in awe of the the view and as a result, there is little chatter. This is a favorite spot for photos and weddings.

Best view in Ventura County

By Kent E |

A very historic site that was saved from destruction by over zealous separation of church and state types. A private organization took over the land and maintain it's heritage and maintenance. The view from Serra Cross Park is spectacular. I always take visitors to see it and often just go there, by myself, to just sit and unwind. Very beautiful and peaceful. Don't miss it if you are in Ventura and bring your camera.

Best Coastal View

By Brenda A |

Bring your camera! This is the best view of Ventura and the beach. It's my favorite stop when company comes to town. After 13 years, I never get tired of their reaction to this stunning coastline.

The best overlook of Ventura

By Diana5101 |

A trip to Serra Cross Park is a must-do when visiting Ventura. There is a nearly 360 degree view from the Avenue area to Point Mugu and back to Camarillo. Ample parking and seating makes it fun for the whole family.

Beautiful site for a wedding

By icandoit22 |

Whether you are there for a special occasion or just for a hike it is worth the visit. The view of the ocean and Ventura Pier is breathtaking. The park is clean and nice.

This is a can't miss spot!!!!!

By freshstart54 |

This is a MUST for all those friends and family who come to visit us. The view is amazing. Count on it being windy but sooo worth it.

Beautiful!

By I love travel |

This was a beautiful view and drive! Go there! But beware, you can fall easily. Uneven path. I would definitely go again.

Breathtaking Views of Ventura!

By Diane Grant |

This is THE place to visit at Sunset! Best 180° Views of Ventura! Best Photo spot! The old Serra Cross Still stands beautifully as A Beacon of Faith, a Survivor of the Thomas Fire of December 4th, 2017.
Don't miss this Special place when visiting Ventura!

Definitely a must see - beautiful views

By Mark I |

If weather is good, such a great vantage point with lovely views. There are also some interesting historic facts, though they aren't presented in the best way.

One of the best views around!

By Emily S |

If you are in Ventura, you'll want to visit Serra Cross Park at sunset. It's worth the drive up the hill! It's also a great place for family or vacation pictures.

Must visit if in Ventura

By Roadtrip1953 |

This is a must see if you visit Ventura. Rich in local history and a beautiful spot. The view at night is spectacular!!! Also a great place to pack a picnic basket, bring a blanket and book and spend the day.

Best view of the city

By Sandy L |

On a clear day, pack a picnic and just enjoy the view. The view of the Channel Islands is stunning at sunset on a clear day. A little tricky to get there, but with a map or GPS it no problem.

Beautiful place to view the Channel Islands

By Bob P |

Relaxing and quiet place to view the coast. Bring a foldable beach chair and a book, soothing experience.

The beauty of the cross

By goteamf |

My husband and I drove to the park and enjoyed the majestic coastal views while the cross is a beautiful reminder of God’s son Jesus.

Awesome views!

By Marsha S |

Serra Cross Park is one of Ventura's gems! When introducing friends/family and clients to this awesome city, I always include a trip to Serra Cross Park. Best views of our beautiful city, coastline and Channel Islands in the distance. The masonry work is amazing!

Possibly the best view in all of California!

By Neal P |

Stunning view from high above Ventura one of the prettiest cities I've ever been to. Enjoy hiking and be careful on the drive up and down but it is definitely worth it. One of the few places I consider "breathtaking"...

A breathtaking spot.

By Tiswos |

I love to stop by this spot -the views are spectacular. I always bring out of towners here, just to give them a birds-eye view of my favorite place in CA. Take your Camera.

What to do? Just a view

By MaryLOVESRivieraMaya |

Whatever you are here for gets done in 10 min. unless you're having a picnic, I get the view thing but even kids get bored really fast as there is nothing to do so keeping an eye on your kids is a must because there are no safety rails or barriers up there. I could say it is a place for couples or adults to relax.

Stunning views!

By glamourpuss1000 |

This is a great place to sit and look at the view during the day then wait for the sunset.
It is an ideal place for taking pictures.
There is a car park and the grounds leading up to the park are being landscaped.
Well worth a visit.

Closed but beautiful

By Lireyes820 |

So I've walked up there a few times since it has been closed. It's nice because you don't have all the stoners up there smoking AND it's pretty quiet! The best thing to happen to the park is for it to close. It's very serene and tranquil up there without the car traffic.

Serra Cross, Ventura

By bruysmerrill |

On a clear day, the view is especially stunning. My wife and I happened to discover Serra Cross on perhaps the clearest day we have experienced on one of our frequent trips to Ventura a few years ago. We have made it an occasional stop when visiting the area.

Dry and weedy

By Sunnyscout |

Definitely a work out but not sure the attraction to dry weedy trails and garbage filled parking lots.

Looks like there are some families trying to reintroduce native plants and attractive seating. Unfortunately, We saw a dead bull snake trapped in fencing material used on new rock walls.

Great view!!

By southerncaligirl72 |

We decided to hike the botanical gardens and up to the park. Total walk was 3 miles both ways. Nice little hike. Cross has such a beautiful 360 view! Great pictures! Fun family day. Nice thing is you dont have to hike to the cross, there is a parking lot right in front. There are also picnic tables so next time, I want to bring my lunch and picnic here. Lots of pretty yellow wild flowers everywhere! Couple huge trees for shade if needed.

It's a Cross

By RalphVentura |

It's wood and it over looks the ocean. Pretty views and there is hiking in the neighboring area. Parking is available adjacent to the government offices on Poli St.

Endless Beauty!!!

By Beth H |

This is without a doubt one of THE MOST BEAUTIFUL spots on the California coast. A little tricky to find, but take Brakee, Ferro or Kalorama. Set your GPS or ask any local. Take a picnic lunch , or watch the sunset. You can also hike to "the cross" as residents refer to it. Park in the upper lot behind City Hall on Poli. You will be so glad you took the time to put this in your schedule!

Pleasant

By Cheecha |

Mostly Pleasant with some beatiful views. Sadly, there was an idiot in his car sitting by the main entrance to the cross. He was utilizing his speaker on his cell phone while using foul language and derogatory terms with the person he was talking to. Maybe the area could be monitored a bit more?

Beautiful but temporarily out of commission 560106109

By Joan B |

is a beautiful spot, a heartrate-hill type walk if you need or want the exercise and atop it allows one to view a panorama of the Oxnard Plain, all of Ventura, the ocean, pier, City, and from the Ventura Avenue area to the Ojai mountain peaks. Sadly, The Thomas Fire which raged through the City of Ventura December 4 and 5, 2017 has resulted in park closure while repairs are made. I post this so that people can check status if they are planning on a visit or attempting to schedule an event.

Love this place

By Marcieyoutz |

True icon of Ventura. Amazing views. New botanical gardens hike that starts at city hall leads up to the cross. It is very tranquil and delightful.

Incredible Sunset & Panoramic Views

By Chris Westwood |

Perched high above the city, the park offers breathtaking panoramic views of Ventura, the coastline, and the Channel Islands on a clear day. Sunset is pure magic up here!

The park is small and simple & parking can be a little tight, especially at sunset, so be prepared to park further down and walk up the hill. But honestly, the short hike is worth every step.

I’d definitely recommend bringing a light jacket since it can get breezy, even on warm days

Great view of the city of Ventura and the ocean

By Foody00 |

I have been up there for a wedding and for exercising. Can also see the mountains of Ojai. GPS is confusing, just keep on driving.

Stunning Views

By janahn875 |

Easy to get to park with stunning views of Ventura, the Channel Islands and beyond. Convenient free parking. Beautiful cross. Don't miss it!

By balinabeach |

The ocean views are beautiful from the park. You stand atop a hill and look down at the city of Ventura. Lovely views of the ocean and the pier. The park has a small grassy area and a stone walkway to the cross. No bathrooms. There is a parking lot at the top or you can hike (around 2.5 miles roundtrip) up to it through the Botanical Gardens.

Great place to catch the sunsets 🌅

By leannleann |

I come here often with my better half to take a look at the surf and catch the sunset. Often we get a bite to eat to go from a local restaurant on Main Street then enjoy it woth each other while watching the epic View of Ventura county. I highly recommend coming here with anyone or just even solo.

Tranquil

By NormKeith |

We started our little over 2 mile one way hick at the Ventura Botanical Gardens to Sierra Cross Park, Father Sierra. My wife found several stones along the trail with different sayings on them. When we got to the Cross and after a dozen young people with their leader left the area was very peaceful. The Cross and the view was amazing. It was worth the walk even though we found that you can drive to the park which we did later in the day when it was clearer.

Just Amazing

By 64Kat2017 |

Go to the very top - don't stop along the winding road - the view at the top is amazing.
Great views of Ventura, Pacific Ocean, and mountains surrounding area. Road into park is a sharp turn and a little tricky to find - travel slowly.

Photo Ops!

By Sue H |

Great panoramic views of Ventura downtown, the pier, the ocean, and the road leading up to Ojai. The cross itself presents wonderful photo opportunities, especially at sunset. There is never a time when no one is there, so be prepared. Probably the best vantage point for views of all Ventura, though

IT'S CLOSED! YOU CAN'T GET THERE!

By blunoz708 |

Based on Trip Advisor recommendations for top things to see in Ventura, my wife and I tried to go up and see Serra Cross. The nearby botanical gardens have been closed since the Thomas Fire and say so on their website. There is nothing on the Serra Cross website about this being closed, and other Trip Advisor users have posted reviews as recently as 2 weeks, 3 weeks, and 4 weeks ago, so I figured it must be open. We tried approaching it from three different roads, but on all three roads, there is a gate across the road and signs saying "Grant Park is Closed." I would post this without a rating, but it requires me to submit a rating. My rating is only based on the fact they haven't updated their website to say they are closed and we can't get there.

Love the Cross

By Deborah C |

Best view in Ventura, so beautiful. Brought back so many wonderful memories. Great place to make some new ones also.

See everything

By robertwide |

When the wind blows you can see the mountains and all the way to Malibu. This can be a vigorous walk or mountain bike ride if you want. Not kidding, you can see forever when the fog and clouds aren't around.

Million-Dollar View

By VtaTraveler |

This is a very special place in Ventura. The site of a cross erected by Franciscan missionaries centuries ago, the current cross is now on private land surrounded by City property. There is some nice natural landscaping and some masonry work around the cross. The view from here is incredibly beautiful. It's a popular wedding spot, and you'll often find groups gathered here for one occasion or another.

Beautiful views

By Maria Chavez |

Had my daughters wedding there .They need restrooms for when they have weddings and maybe block the public while it’s being used somehow

I can see for miles an miles and miles

By joeytd |

A favorite spot of many is the father serra cross at grant park on most days yours eyes can travel up and down the coast. On really clear days the Chanel islands are on show. A great place to take a solitary stroll or to sit in medita time reflection. Family and friends will cherish their visit.

Great view

By JimmyJackk |

Park has great views and places to hike and bike. But not well maintained. The signature attraction the cross has graffiti on it.

Sweeping 240 degree views!!

By Marie G |

Serra Cross Park, located within Grant Park, are both located on the west end of the hills that frame and overlook the old part of the City. The vantage point offered from this location is like none other. You can look northwest across the Ventura River to lovely hills and terraces and to the south over the City of Ventura and harbor in the distance. Both directions with an expansive ocean backdrop! On a clear day, stunning! Breathe deep the fresh air! Parking available at the Serra Cross, view points and picnic type seating scattered here and there throughout Grant Park, along with hiking trails for the ambitious.

Late Night Lockdown

By Jeffery P |

The city and ocean views at night from the "cross" parking area were always a special treat. We hyped the visit before and took several out of state guests there after dinner and were disappointed to find a chain and locked gate on the access road. Not sure why this happened, but it seems unnecessary at 7:30 pm. The main city streets and lights below are laid out in the shape of a huge anchor only noticeable after dark. Another public access loss.

Absolutely stunning place, stunning view!

By solidgrounds |

My brother and SIL were married here last year. Not only was the view absolutely breathtaking, but the power of the Cross was almost palpable in the serenity of His Creation!

Great view - historic

By Daniel D |

Believe it or not -this is one of the most historic (and accurate) sites in all of California.A cross has been erect at this site for well over 200 years. Ships would use it as a beacon/bearing when out in the Channel. The Serra Cross was a religious and secular landmark. My grandfather who was a local Protestant Pastor in the early 1930's held Easter Morning Sunrise Services with other Catholic and Protestant Pastors at this very site. There is a small public park nearby & a private park available to the public for free on the site. Excellent spot for taking photos - especially at Sunset. And, of course - it is also a romantic spot. Bring a jacket or sweater after 5:30pm - and the breeze often picks up. Look at map directions - there are two(2) ways to drive up/gain access. Make sure to lock your car doors.

Amazing view

By CPC59 |

A short drive behind the City building you have an amazing view of Ventura and the open sea. It is a small oasis. The large cross sits beautifully in the center of a green lawn surrounded by trees and shrubbery. Definitely bring your camera. Very calming.

Cross @ the Park ....

By DAVID L |

Nice scenic hillside park above Old Town Ventura which pays homage to Fr. Junipero Serra. Super views of the Ventura coastline, Channel Islands and inland to the coastal mountains. Great viewing area. Enjoyed walking about and getting panoramic views of the area. Fun! Enjoy ......

Fantastic view of coastline. A must for photographers. View of pier, downtown, ocean coastline. mountains and canyon toward Ojai.

Awesome view

By Peipay H |

This place was highly recommended by one of the locals while we were visiting the mission. Its a very nice off over seeing Ventura. It would be a good lace to have a picnic and look down on Ventura. Will be back for the view

life time of memories

By surfintrekie |

the old wooded cross, neither fire nor protects for atheists have taking this cross down. lots of memories, great views.

Nice park, nice views from Ojai to Santa Barbara to the Channel Islands. sort of a lovers lane feel.

By gzgirl |

You can see miles and miles. It seems sore of a romantic spot and would be great for picnics and gorgeous at sunset.

Great View of Ventura and the coast.

By Philip R |

The Serra Cross, located in Grant Park, offers a wonderful view of Ventura, Oxnard, and the Coast. It was supposedly first erected by padres from the Ventura Mission. Over the years it has be modified and updated. On a clear day the channel islands are visible. Parking is limited, but there is roadside parking on the way to the cross. There are no services such as restrooms available, nor are there any food services at the cross. There are a few picnic tables and also a grassy area were a blanket can be spread for a picnic.

There is a nice trail beginning from behind the Ventura City Hall and leads up to the cross. It can be a tiring hike, particularly in the heat. I would not recommend the hike for kids under five or six.

There are plenty of great restaurants and cafes in downtown Ventura, just a block down from city hall. It is a wonderful start to a day of exploring Ventura.

Huge hangout for local teens at sunset…. Local hangout and maybe drinking spot

By hstevens001 |

The view is wonderful and there are numerous hummingbirds flying around.

The downside is this seems to be a huge hangout for local teens at night, some of whom are here drinking alcohol and blocking the view for others.

Ventura Landmark Linked to Urban Hike

By Vikki B |

Imagine hiking the Botanical Gardens and with a short detour you are at the Cross. Not only is the view magnificent, the grassy area is perfect for a quiet picnic or a rest from the hike. You can get here by road also so it is open to everyone. Check out the pictures.

Must see view

By Allie Rae |

A little hard to find the entrances to Grant Park, but the views up there and especially Serra Cross park are breathtaking. Go at sunset and enjoy the twilight turning into city lights at night.

beautiful view reasonably within reach

By theclaw1982 |

Really nice view just a short drive from downtown ventura. The gardens/landscaping is well kept, the hummingbirds were cute

Beautiful vista overlooking the coastline

By wuvhawaii |

We always take visitors here because it provides the best view in Ventura. It's also a nice place to take family photos. A large cross makes for a beautiful backdrop for photos as well. There is hiking in the surrounding area and it's 2 minutes to downtown Ventura. Parking can be challenging on the weekends.

View amazing from up here!

By mommabeara |

It’s worth the walk to take in the amazing view up here! A real find. I didn’t know about this place although I lived in the county for decades.

Great view

Drive up to Serra Cross park and there will be plenty of parking. Lots of great views of the pier, beach, ocean and the city of Ventura.

The best view in Ventura County

By sessa59 |

Do not miss the opportunity to head up to the 'cross' in Ventura. The view is breathtaking. Its a great place to just sit and observe. You have the view of all of Ventura overlooking the beach. On the other side, you have an amazing mountain view toward Ojai. Do Not Miss this place.

Best view of Ventura

By Sue D |

We love this park and its view so much we were married here! The view is incredible at all times of day, th giant cross provides a unique backdrop and the landscape is always well taken care of.

Wedding held at the cross

By Ryder’sleash |

It was the most spectacular day and the the view was outstanding while mour friends exchanged their vows at the cross. We had ocean breezes and island views for what couldn't have been the most beautiful wedding I've ever witnessed. If you've never gone for a a drive up to the cross pack a picnic lunch and make a day of hiking and people watching you will never forget the outstanding views of downtown Ventura.

Must see

By VanessaB |

Would definitely drive up here as it is a little way from the main town and all uphill. The views from here are amazing. The area is well maintained and there are lots of lovely birds around, including hummingbirds. No cost for parking.

This spot will always have my heart

By Linda M |

Grew up in Ventura county.. My dad proposed to my mom up at this cross and 20 years later my husband proposed to me here too. It has a winding skinny road to get up to it. The views are to die for.. The fire in 2017 burned a lot of the landscaping but did not touch the cross.. Thsi land mark is here to stay and many picnics, weddings, etc happen here.. Take your lunch up here and enjoy the views of the ocean..

Awesome Vista Point

By MoMartin66 |

The park is accessible either by foot or car. Either way it is definitely worth the trip to see the view. Views are much better later in the day once the marine layer wears off.

All about the view and masonry work

By lsihrofhhisc |

Way up on a hill overlooking both downtown historic Ventura and the ocean in the distance. Fabulous scenic point and little park with free parking. There are various architectural features in this park including the Serra Cross. Worth a quick trip up the hill by CAR for the view and peaceful setting.

great scenic view

By Joseph G |

just 4 minute drive from where i stayed, a great view of the coast and ocean and north view of mountains and farms. it is a model A car size twisty road with bicyclists and pedestrians to travel on to get to the parking area.

Great view!

By CarmichaelVentura |

The view is a knockout, but there's not bc a whole lot of park going on at the Cross. But great views, not just of the town and the coast, but also of the valley up to Ojai.

Great spot overlooking Ventura and the Pacific Ocean. Parking available and numerous hiking trails. Great for sunsets.

Great view on a clear day

By Dianne H |

Well maintained trails, gardens and parking areas near the cross. Wonderful views of the bay & Venture pier. Picnic tables and grass area around the cross are ok too for yoga, meditation and reflection. Just avoid the port- a johns at all costs- they are disgusting!

Watch the Sunset

By Tanay R |

This small area, (once you reach the top), is breathtaking. I recommend hiking it as often as possible. Of course, be wary of bad drivers. You have to be careful even if you drive up too.

I find peace sitting, or strolling around the Serra Cross. I have only been at sunset; it's the ideal time to go. Even with our world so into technology, it's a beautiful moment having a large group of strangers pause to enjoy the view as the sun goes down. Of course people are taking photos, but it's not as distracting as it would be in a restaurant. Everyone has their own front row view of the sun disappearing behind the water, or in adverse weather, behind the clouds.

Beautiful view of Ventura

This is a free privately owned park, wonderful views of downtown Ventura, the pier, and the ocean. You can walk, bike, or drive up there (although it is pretty high up).

Spectacular view of Ventura !

By Clo M |

There is no charge to visit this little park, but what a view of Ventura and the ocean! We've been there twice and found the area clean and uncrowded on the weekdays. Be sure to have a camera that can zoom and take panorama photos. Unfortunately, I lost my photos from this part of our visits and cannot post any.

Breathtaking views

By MissBowtie |

Highly recommended to visit at least once while In Ventura. Views are magical! There are people here all the time but you can find some areas where you can sit and enjoy the views. There are also hiking trails. Parking is not an issue.

Panoramic & Scenic view of Ventura

By Angela B |

If you ever visit Ventura, Serra Cross Park is the place to go. You will have to drive through the somewhat winding narrow two lane road to the peak. It can be scary if you are coming down on the right lane and not have any barrier. All that is forgotten when you reach the top to see the aerial view of the beach, the hills, the fields and the City of Ventura. Best to bring your binoculars. Lastly, drive carefully in and out of the park. You don't want to get distracted by the beautiful view that you drive off the edge or crash into oncoming traffic.

Can you say OH WHAT A VIEW!

By GoSeeDoTravelDuo |

A must for locals and visitors. The sunsets and the view of Ventura is a must see from up here.

Great walk up from City Hall using the botanical garden dirt trail. Park in the lot behind City Hall. Read up on the history here, its very special.

You can also drive up the the cross and at sunset MANY make the trek. The parking lot can be over-flowed. It's that special!

Stunning Views and Peaceful Place

By Silvia M |

I lived in Ventura many years ago and regularly took out of town guests here. We were visiting in April on a beautiful day with friends. A quick drive and not to be missed. The views of the coast, city and ocean are breathtaking. You can hike or drive to the cross but check the website for closures. Limited parking. There is a bench and a grassy area that would make a nice picnic.

Hike to the Cross

By Katrina1222 |

Fantastic view of the coastline and harbor. You can either drive up or take the hike from the right side of the City Hall. I think the hike is perfect.

Sunset - Perfect Timing

By Stephen J |

A must see. Great view. My wife and I drove up from L.A. to spend the night in Ventura. We were actually planning to check this spot out the next day but there was still daylight when we checked into the hotel, so off we went. We got there about 10 minutes before sunset...the sky was PULSATING an orange-red hue for minutes after the sun set. Then there were about 15-20 humming birds around a couple of bushes heading back to the car. Incredible sound!

Perfect view point

By Lynda B |

Beautiful place to stop and relax. Amazing view of the ocean and downtown Ventura. Lots of hummingbirds around the flowers and bushes, spend a little while just watching them hovering over the bushes and flying in and out in the blink of a eye. Nice area with benches where you can sit and enjoy.

Top of Sightseeing List

By LnS2004 |

A short drive up some steep slope led us to this summit attraction. The simple, solemn wooden cross was a spiritual, thought-provoking sight. The informative signage provided good background history of this famous landmark, most interestingly the 2010 stonework project. Of course, the breathtakingly gorgeous panoramic view of Ventura old town down below, the distant beaches and ocean stole the show. A group yoga session just finished on the lawn surrounding the cross.

Breathtaking Views of City and Channel Islands

By Kac |

I performed a wedding at the top of this site under the cross. It happened to be the clearest day and you could see forever. Stunning panorama and lovely feeling at this hilltop location. It's certainly a don't-miss-this kind of attraction. I understand it can be dicey at night with shady characters also enjoying the sites. Be careful. Lock your cars and stay alert while enjoying the night views.

Great panoramic views of the coast. Many different pull off views. Very close to Main Street!

By Yehbut |

We took our dog to this cool park set up high on the mountain top. Kind of disappointed that there wasn’t more green space, but the views are awesome. There is more mulch than grass so good for a picnic or a relaxing day just looking at the coast.

best view in Ventura for free

By jf002 |

Got a little time to spare , in Ventura and want to relax? Take some food or drink, or just yourself and your camera and go up to the cross. Sometimes crowded, often empty, almost always with sufficient free parking. This will give you an overview of the whole coast while you relax.

Top Notch View

By Alana M |

Having grown up in Ventura, this was always a wonderful place. Even with the fires that effected the surrounding, they managed to keep the cross, although it is somewhat charred. The view up there of all of Ventura is totally breathtaking, Perfect place to take out of town visitors!

What a view!!!

By Imacfix . |

This is a well care for little park on the summit of a high hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the City of Ventura. Great View of the Ventura Downtown, Beach and Marina areas. On a clear day you can see all the way to the Channel Islands to the West and Port Hueneme to the South.

Great views

We used the cross to renew our marriage vows. Nice view of ventura and the ocean, pleasant weather and nice setting.
