Great ferry service. Fast and friendly staff. A little expensive but well organized and efficient. Buy tickets online to save a couple dollars and time at the site.

Parked at the day use parking lot. We just missed the shuttle because it was full but the next one was there in 2 min. Ferry left on time and the departing ferry arrived on time,

Shepler's Mackinac Island Ferry from St. Ignace, MI is the best for all your needs in traveling with luggage and transfers to the hotels. Arrive early enough to obtain tickets and know your transportation via their ferries is the best way to travel. The personnel are efficient, knowledgeable and always very helpful. Staff are courteous and work under pressure as the ferries prepare to load and unload; not just when staff is helping you. Shepler's St. Ignace is awesome due to the staff and ferry pilots.

Your season is over and I hope it was a profitable one for you. It has been almost 5 months now and no word from Shepler’s regarding my stolen luggage. Sure I received a “sorry for your loss” phone call but nothing since. Luggage and contents valued over $2000 and no personal apology letter? What kind of customer service is this. My luggage was stolen while under your care and no offer to replace or compensate? Police report has been filed and they did the most that they could do and apologized several times even though it was not their fault at all. This woman who was on camera walking away from the unsecured Shepler's tent with my suitcase will most likely never be caught or prosecuted as she is in another state. This is all on you Shepler’s! Your tents are not secure and my valuable luggage which had my clothing (some of my favorite outfits), and gifts purchased on the Island were stolen because you told me the tent was secured by employees and I felt my luggage was safe under your care. Chris Shepler told me my suggestions for security cameras near the entrance and exit of the tents were a great idea. He knows items get stolen and people just eventually move on. I refuse to forget how Shepler’s ruined what had been one of my happiest trips to the island. Things like this happen all the time and thiefs/theft is a regular part of our lives but your handling of my situation has been very bad customer service.
Please use caution when traveling to the island and use another ferry service or if you have to use Shepler’s keep your bag next to you to the island and back.
A handwritten letter of apology from you and your holding company would have made all the difference. It would not have taken more than a few minutes.
Time continues to pass but these bad memories of being treated so poorly by Shepler’s will stay with me forever.

Fast as could be, comfortable and the nicest people. We actually lost our ticket and I had the receipt so they printed us new ones. Parking was easy and the shuttle very reliable.

Shepler's bought out the other ferry service so they hold a monopoly on getting you to Mackinac Island. We found that $38/pp was pretty steep for a two 16 minute rides. Plus the parking is now $15 instead of $10. Apparently there is a big rigmarole between them and the Island about pricing. Once we parked, there are some employees guiding you to where to get on the shuttle.
The ferries leave precisely on time (every 15 minutes) and carry 281 people. We were the 290th people in line because we went to the restroom before getting in line, so we missed the ferry and were a few minutes late to our Kayak Tour start time. So if you have a schedule, allow plenty of time for the shuttle and lines. If not, every 15 minutes is pretty quick to get you on the island.

Hosts on the ferry were very friendly and informative. Smooth ride back and forth to the island. Take the early morning ferry that takes you under the bridge, well worth it!!!!

Shepler’s Ferry has the procedure for getting one’s car parked, luggage boarded and people ferried to Mackinac Island so efficiently, one has no worries. The dock porters are an amazing crew. After the ferry lands on Mackinac Island, the dock porters load the luggage onto carts attached to bicycles and deliver them to designated hotels.

Returned to and from the Mackinac Island safely that is highest compliment. The water is overwhelming....it's a lot of water with a small ferry. The Shepler staff was very professional and organized. Every staff person from the ticket staff, the parking staff and the ferry staff. The ship was clean. I felt very safe.

Horrible experience. They sell outrageous amounts of tickets and we had to wait for over 1.5 hours to get back to mackinaw city . Never again.

All of the ferries, not just Shepler's, have become a money grab.
If you plan to park, bear in mind that if you are one minute over 24 hours, you will be charged another $25 for a second day's parking. (Their pricing of "$25 per night" is a very deceptive statement.) Locals advise making use of hotel shuttles and arrange to park there instead of getting soaked by the ferry companies.

Great experience! My family rode on the Sheplers fairy last week of July and we had a fantastic time. My kids loved riding and enjoyed the experience. We likely won’t go in July again to Mack Island because it was so beyond busy. We’d likely go in September when the crowds decrease.

Bring walking shoes, water bottle, sunscreen, and hat. Very orderly boarding process. Nice view of lakes from deck of ferry. Pickup and drop off locations conveniently located. Frequent departures / trips.

The ferry ride was fun and we had amazing views from inside the bottom part on the way to the island. We had a fun experience on the top part riding back from the island and we all enjoyed it! Staff was friendly and helpful!

we took the girl scouts on the ferry from st Ignace. they loved it . we also got the combo that includes a carriage tour which was excellent. both boats was excellent and the cast members was excellent also

Friendly, fast, and efficient process and staff. Everything went perfectly. Boat ride was on time and comfortable coming and going from the island. We stayed on the island so I appreciated that the crew handled our luggage and it was conveniently brought to our hotel. Highly recommend.

Shepler's is organized and efficient. The crew was friendly and courteous and everything flowed smoothly. Parking was free and located directly where the boarding/unboarding take place. Great job!!!

We rode up top over to the island. Great experience but it was cold so wear a jacket and you could possibly get wet depending on the waves. But it was really fun. Friendly staff. Decent line management. It's only 16 min to the island. Good Memorial day activity.

Our experience was very positive. They are very organized. Our trip to Mackinac Island was good. They also provide hotel shuttle.

Great Staff at ticket counter. My husband qualified for a military discount which was a good savings. Ride was smooth and informative.

Everyone was very nice and the ferries ran on time! Ticketing and boarding were easy and location was prime! The top deck was frigid so be mindful of the weather.

Taking the ferry to Mackinac Island was relaxing. Going past the 5 mile suspension bridge and the cool air in our face was so relaxing. It was our first time on Mackinac Island. Bring your bike for the amazing 8 mile loop around the island. We can’t wait to return and enjoy what the Upper Peninsula has to offer.

We visited Mackinac Island on July 13 and used this Ferry Service. We took the shuttle from one of the parking lots, it was fast and very little wait time going both ways. Morning Ferry's take a side trip under the Bridge, so that was pretty cool. And they offer a veterans discount too!

The ferry was on time and clean and the staff was friendly. The dock parking is atrocious. If you do not have a small car. Good luck getting into a spot or to get out of the spot. The turns to get out of the gate are impossible.

First time using them as the other lines have shut down,at most of the docks parking is usually free. We were directed by a member to a spot, after giving us a ticket, when we tried to leave the ticket was denied,so we went back talked to another member, who sent us to the cashier and bingo 45.00 us as it turned out we were parked in a PREMIUM AREA SO be careful, once thru the gate you pay, take their shuttle or park OFF SITE this should avoid any confusion

Very nice company to sail with. They have a large parking lot, They can park campers and motorhomes. Easy way to pay on line or at the ticket booth. They have a indoor waiting room with bathrooms if needed. Offsite parking for people that are staying on the island. It takes about 30min (if you take the trip were they go to the bridge) to go over and boats are comming and going all day so you can leave at any time. You pass Round Island Lighthouse along the way wich is very pretty.

Parking was a little confusing at first, but we found out that they had a free shuttle near the highway and it was very easy to use. We missed the 1030 ferry where they gave you a guide underneath the bridge,
We missed the recommended 10:30 ferry and got the 10:45 which wasn’t supposed to include the bridge tour and commentary, but they decided to give us that anyway. That was kind of cool and unexpected. The captain was entertaining and informative and friendly. And the boat ride was pleasant.

Took Shepler's Ferry from Mackinaw City over to Mackinaw Island for a few hours.
Buying tickers on line was a breeze, ferry was clean, staff were friendly.

Ferries were clean. They were on-time. They were not choppy. Crew were pleasant. Many options of parking and transportation to get to the docks.

Loved the ride over, especially since we made it on the ride that takes you under the bridge. Definitely a must if you can manage to swing it! Also getting the top deck is an awesome view, especially if wanting photos. We had a choppy water and windy day, so maybe a light jacket or sweatshirt for the top deck for children or someone bothered by the chill.

We took the ferry from St Ignace to Mackinac island for a 3 day trip. They have a very secure parking lot for overnight visits. A very quick ride and very well managed.

Went on April 30th and it was a little chilly but the trip to and from was very quick. They were following all CDC guidelines and was happy that we chose Shepler's.

Our crew on the ship was very kind and polite. The ride was great except for the temperatures at this time of year, but there is inside seating! The crew on Mackinac Island were rude and not very polite to guests! The same guy that yelled at me,also yelled at another guests. I guess he must be unhappy with his job! I feel the company needs to deal with this man before they loose business! There are more polite ways to get people to do what you want them to do! Plane and simple, boat crew excellent and guy on Mackinac Island is a jerk!

Free parking lot and shuttle bus to the dock. On-time departure. Quick trip to Mackinac Island. You might get wet up top on a windy day. Avoid the uncomfortable tractor-pulled trailers with limited legroom when you return. Save $2 per ticket by buying online in advance (no service "convenience" fee) to ensure that you can book the departure time that you want and get right on the boat.

Loved taking the ferry to the island. With the purchase of ferry tickets, you get a feee shuttle from your hotel, campground to the ferry that takes you right to the island.

If you can, take the one that goes by the Mackinac Bridge. It's a few minutes longer than the regular ferry, but worth the views (and doesn't cost extra). The ferry ran on time and everyone was friendly. It was easy to board and a comfortable ride. Return ferry rides were numerous and on time, as well.

Very nice staff . Nice ride to island and back . Parking free if day visit , over night is $40 if lake onsite . If off site it is &20 night .

Mom and I walked up to the ticket counter at Shepler’s and bought two tickets with no problem. Fair warning when Lake Huron is choppy, the top deck is closed. Still, there is plenty of seating inside the cabin. Be sure when leaving Mackinac Island to go back to the mainland to make sure you are in the right line for either Mackinaw City or St. Ignace as the two lines are right next to each other.

By far the best by recent comparison! I’ve traveled Star Line for work and won’t travel again by choice! Shepler’s has friendlier staff and a cleaner, quieter ride. Staff maintains professionalism and truly seem to enjoy their jobs. Highly recommend!

Traveling for the first time for a stay on the island, involving overnight parking and huge suitcases, and arranged transport to the Grand Hotel was enough for multiple anxiety attacks!! The staff at Shepler’s was obviously skilled at dealing with others just like us! The friendly lady up front at the entrance was extremely helpful and encouraging offering information and suggestions to enjoy nearby beach and view to kill some time before departure on the ferry. The staff at the counter were all helpful answering our redundant questions and directing us to our next step in the process. And then there were the strong and incredibly patient and kind workers who unloaded our ridiculously overpacked luggage from our cars ( and back INTO cars on return visit) who absolutely deserve extra pay for physical therapy caused by lifting luggage weighing more than an island horse!!! All in all, on both ends of this ferry experience, the staff at Shepler’s was incredibly kind and helpful at eliminating stress and handling everything for its guests!! Thank you all so much!! You all are a great team!!

Profession; convenient; well-run operation;
Luggage is handled; shuttle to parking lots; quick 15-minute picturesque boat ride to Mackinac; Entire staff are professional

We went to the St. Ignace location. Another location is Mackinaw City. Around $15 to park. Clean restrooms and (small) waiting space indoor if needed while waiting. No restrooms on the ferry. Approx 15 minutes to the island. You can only get to the island by a ferry. If you choose to sit on the upper deck it's opened and you can possibly get wet. Check the website for pricing and any additional information you may need to know. Friendly staff. Pets may be on board.

We came here to ride the ferry over to Mackinaw Island. We bought a round trip ticket at the dock. Mark is a vet from the Air Force so we got a discount saving some money.
Everyone was so friendly. Everything was smooth and seamless.
We would recommend this transportation

Our vacation was cancelled thanks to Delta Airlines. Even though they have a "no refund" policy, I contacted Shepler's by email tonight explaining our circumstances and asking if a refund would be possible. Within thirty minutes, Cari Peterman from that fine company emailed me and said that a full refund was on its way. This is an amazing company and we look forward to visiting them next year!

The ferry is on time and very clean. They offer a $2.00 book about the Island and a map. This is nice to look at while your on your commute. We sat in the downstairs seating and it was nice and cool. It’s a longer ride than what I was thinking it was going to be, but well worth it when you see how beautiful the island is. I would not hesitate to take this ferry again. I felt very comfortable and safe.

Service, direction and organization on the way to the island was excellent. Couldn't believe the level of positive customer service. They had people everywhere assisting and giving direction and they all were very polite and professional. Luggage can be dropped off right at the dock then you go to a designated lot, park, and take a shuttle back to the dock. Luggage was handled for you at the dock and either picked up on the island dock when you get off the ferry or delivered to your hotel, depending on where you stay. Trip back, not so organized and not so customer friendly. We stayed the weekend so had several items of luggage to get back to the car. There was little to no direction at the island dock re luggage. Once back at the Mackinac City dock there was little to no direction to the shuttle back to the lot. When we tried to board the shuttle, the driver was basically rude and unhelpful regarding where to put our luggage. There was no place to put it inside. He said he couldn't open the rear door to let us put it in back where there was an open storage area. He said put it in an open seat and directed us not to block the aisle with it. But there was really not enough open seats as the shuttle was pretty crowded. I was literally dragging luggage including a cooler over peoples' heads to try and put it somewhere. I ended up trying to put the cooler and suitcase in the back open area of the van as there were no open seats to put them in. Then when he took off, everything started tumbling all over the back of the van because the suitcase was on wheels. So I went back to try and secure it. He didn't wait or slow down so I was literally tumbling around with it. I did finally get it layed down and secured back there and was able to crawl back into a seat....got a mini roller coaster ride without having to go to Cedar Pointe this season......yikes! Other than that little escapade, everything went quite well.

Our experience with Shepler's Ferry was totally positive. They operate a well-organized system to transport people, bikes and luggage, with plenty of available staff to answer questions. Excellent customer service!

The two kids working the exit gate this morning treated us like we were career criminals because we couldn’t find an overnight parking receipt from 4 days ago. It took ~15 mins before someone instructed us to go to the ticket office to have them verify our payment( which literally took 2 seconds). That should have been the first thing we were told when we said we couldn’t find the receipt. Would have saved us the hassle of unpacking and repacking our suitcases.
The entire exit flow felt extremely disorganized, and disrespectful.

We were able to overnight in the Shepler lot for $10 a night which is very reasonable. St. Ignace waiting area has cover over it to avoid sun. Waiting area on dock at Mackinac side for return trip does not. Not sure why. People line up half an hour in advance for ferry so have water bottle and hat for return trip.

If you pay for parking plan to wait quite a while as they sent us to a different lot. We missed the ferry to go under the bridge bc of this. They have no one directing people on the shuttles so we were first in line and missed it bc everyone pushed their way on. Use the restroom before since there is nothing here. Use a different ferry line.

Great ferry company! It runs very smoothly , they have employees every step of the way to direct you or answer questions. The schedule is posted. You can buy tickets there or online. The ferry runs every 30 minutes and has indoor lower level or open air seating on top. They will take and tag your luggage and then you get it at the dock. Super easy. Nice, clean ferry.

I purchased our tickets on line through Sheplers website. Easy transition. They took care of our luggage to/from the island as well.
Great friendly service, helpful.
Went underneath the Mac Bridge going out.
Parking: we chose overnight-safe parking on site $35.
All in all: Excellent.

The ferry ran on time, got us to the island and back. The ship was clean and the personnel friendly.

Amazing boat crew & gate personnel. They really have their systems in place for maximum efficiency. On board crew was pleasant, friendly and helpful. Better directions and or instructions on parking could be worked on for clearer understanding. Shuttle service people were VERY rude, crabby, yelling at guests, etc. This happened both coming and going back to the parking lots. Really put a damper on the whole experience.

On Tuesday, May 10, 2022, I entered Shepler's dock in Mackinaw City, Michigan to catch the 8:30 am ferry to Mackinac Island. I was pleasantly greeted by the gate attendant who directed me to the vehicle unloading zone. At the unloading zone, Aaron assisted me with my luggage, asked which hotel on the island I was going to stay at, tagged my luggage, and directed me to the ticket window. He explained how I would retrieve my luggage on the island from my hotel's porter and patiently answered my questions. All of this he did capably, carefully, and in a friendly manner. I was very impressed, especially since I was there very early in the season. In my opinion, Aaron is an exemplary employee and is a good example of why I choose Shepler's on every trip I take to the island. The entire experience was wonderful due largely to the multiple Shepler's employees I came in contact with.

The Mighty Mac goes to the bridge before going to Macinak Island. The views are super and the ride enjoyable. The ferry is a highlight of our trip.

Everything about our experience was delightful. Shepler’s sent a shuttle to pick us up at the campground. We waited less than 10 min and we were on the ferry by 9:30. We met people who arrived an hour later than us and waited 1.5 hours to board. The morning ferry took us under the bridge (I didn’t realize that not everyone gets that special surprise). Everything was run very efficiently.

15 minute ride to the island. Luckily it was not a busy day so we didn't have to stand in long lines. A plus is you can take your fur babies with you. Although we didn't stay on the island, they are very accommodating for taking luggage for those staying overnight.

We took this ferry to get to Mackinac Island and I had a fine time on the top deck with the lake spray! Listen to the Captain about what direction the spray is coming from if you'd rather NOT have this experience.
The wind was high on the way back to the mainland, so it can be a bit disorienting (I kept thinking of the Gilligan's Island theme song), but it was cool to watch the Captain confidently navigate the waters. While I appreciated the spray of the ride back, I felt for the family on the back right of the upper deck with us. The poor man of the group look bewildered at those of us in front, as I pretty much saw his question of how he got a shower vs. a spray!

An amazingly well run operation. So many travelers and wait times were very short. Shuttles to and from local hotels made it even easier. Highly recommended to get to Mackinac Island.

Awesome experience- timely embarkation and we were able to go under the bridge to hear the history. Wish the speakers were a bit louder to hear the interesting facts.

Shepler’s has on-time friendly service to Mackinac Island from St. Ignace. Shuttles run every 30 minutes and are on time.
Staff are exceptionally friendly. Jon took the time to talk with our family. He recognized us from a few sailings and made sure to say hello each time he saw us.
The boats are very clean and you can see staff take pride in their jobs.
If you will be in town for a few days make sure to get the Mac n Back ticket that’s good for 3 days. You can only purchase this at the ticket window. It’s definitely worth it.

On our recent trip to Mackinac Island we were impressed with the personable staff of Shepler's Ferry. Everything went smoothly from luggage drop off to the ferry ride in both directions. We were traveling with our dogs and the ferry is very accommodating to our furry family members.
The trip back was in some fierce rain and up to 6 foot swells. The captain took us through them safely. We'd definitely use their services again in the future.

Everything went smoothly, right from buying the tickets online to boarding and transporting. The staff that assisted us were all helpful and friendly and seemed to enjoy what they're doing.

Long story short FANTASTIC SERVICE AND STAFF. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Long story: We used Shepler's on Sunday September 5th expecting it to be crazy for the Labor day bridge walk. First, they offered shuttle service from our hotel YAY. There was some rain heavy rain just before we left, but the sun decided to come out. When we arrived staff were cleaning benches with a towel, and drying service areas. Everyone was very friendly. The vessel arrived and a crew member shouted "lots of bikes lots and lots of bikes". I am not sure where they extra staff came from they just came from multiple directions. The way they unloaded was like a well rehearsed assembly line. They're were hand offs and lots of communication. My 13 year old said after they were done "wow I feel like we should applaud them they made that look easy and did it so fast" (so we did).
They disinfected the seats and sprayed the air and handles. And just like that it was our time to board. The staff were so polite, the ride was smooth. The return trip was just as smooth. Lots of communication between staff and the guest. Not only did I feel like these people knew what they were doing I felt they enjoyed their job. The parking lot seemed huge and seemed to have ample parking. We left from the St. Ignace location, but I can't imagine the other location would be much different.
Way to go Shepler's we will definitely be back.
The only possible suggestion I could offer is; it would be nice if there were bridge stops at later times. We drove 4.5 hours and only stayed for one night. The added bridge view tours were hard for us to hit, but maybe there is a reason they have to stop early.

What a fun way to get to the Island. Awesome ride. We sat up top. Nice views coming in and out of the island. A great was to get there unless you want to take the bridge

Shepler's ferry service to and from Mackinac Island runs like clockwork. From unloading one's luggage, parking one's vehicle, and loading one's luggage on the return leg, the process is seamless.

It was my first time visiting the island and I wasn't sure what to expect. The Shepler staff were very helpful in answering all of our questions. Our ferry went under the Mackinaw bridge which was pretty neat. Our luggage was safely delivered both to and from the island. When leaving the island our captain gave passengers a heads up on possible rain showers so those who were on top of the boat could move inside. I will be taking Shepler's ferry service on my next visit to the island.

This company is the best for taking people over the island. We have used them before. They are fast and efficient. They run about every 15 min so you don't have to wait long.

No masks for passengers/crew on the boat but by then you've paid and are stuck. Land persons had masks. Boat experience organized. Good deal for combined ferry/tour tickets. Good parking and has shuttles to hotels. My mom has used Sheplers for years from Mackinaw City and St. Ignace. They sell a book on the boat (cash only) that is also useful. Check online as tickets are not for specific times and some times have a lot of waiting involved.

Boat clean, on time and fast. Did all safety reviews. Checked-in while waiting in line speeded up boarding.

Shepler's Mackinac Island Ferry went above and beyond to accommodate me on two night cruises which were awesome, and they were friendly and helpful in every way. Choose a night cruise if you can. And, have a great time - just remember to dress warm on any ferry trip in the area during any time of year.

This was my first time here. We arrived early so we could park in Lot A. We took the tram over to the ferry cruise port. Public restrooms are located at the ferry cruise port. I was here with my family of seven including three children and three adults. We booked our tickets over the internet. We booked Shepler's enhanced boarding, which included a $38 basic roundtrip ferry ticket plus $12 Enhanced add-on or $50 per adult. So my four adults cost $200. It cost me $250 in total including the enhanced add-on. The enhanced add-on permits boarding prior to the lower cost general boarding customers. There was a $3 convenience fee associated with my online transaction. In my opinion the enhanced add-on was well worth our round trip ferry service. When we departed Mackinaw City we cruised under the Mackinac Bridge otherwise known as “Mighty Mac” bridge, which took a few extra minutes, but was a nice touch. See my videos. The bridge spans the Straits of Mackinac, a body of water connecting Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. The bridge is a significant landmark and a symbol of the state as one of the world’s largest suspension bridges. More to come regarding our cruise under the Mackinac Bridge (Mighty Mac bridge). Our return ferry did not cruise under the “Mighty Mac” bridge. We cruised directly from Mackinac Island to Mackinac City. We were on the upper deck of the ferry to and from Mackinac Island, which was nice. Our round trip ferry service was also very nice. I would return here again. More to come regarding our arrival and our tour of Mackinac Island.

The crew and staff of Shepler's Mackinac Island Ferry made this short trip very comfortable. The ferry was clean and ready with the quick turn around each trip.

We bought our roundtrip tickets online in advance of our visit. Embarkation was easy and very organized. Felt very safe. Stopped under the bridge on the trip over - very unique perspective.

Fast friendly service. Very secure parking for your vehicle. We will definitely use them again for our Mackinaw Island visits!

We were going to Mackinac Island for the day. The parking for Shepler’s shuttle was conveniently across from our hotel. We did the Mighty Mac Ferry that takes you under the bridge before going to the island. It was very nice and professional.

Left from St Ignace. Very helpful and friendly staff process was easy and it was a nice quick ride. They offer luggage porters to take your luggage to where you are staying as well.

Very professional, organized and welcoming from the moment you drive up to the entrance. Everything went like clockwork - unloading our luggage, parking, shuttles, ferry ride, and porter service on the Island.

Took the morning trip out of Mackinac to the island. This one took a short excursion under the bridge which was awesome. Everything is professional but I have one problem and that would be with the captain. He should understand that as a family we paid a fair price and wished to sit together. We came a long way and chose to opt for the 2nd ferry that morning instead of breaking up our family for the first boat. We deserve the right to experience the trip together and he should be considerate when making comments that could offend. Thank you

Forgot the other ferry company....website hard to navigate, doesn't give much info. Tried to call and ask some questions...forget it no choices for customer service.
The pamphlets for Sheplers ferry had lots of information & the times listed. Their website was informative and listed info about the discounts available one being for the military. That was super saved us some cash. YEA....
Also called them a real person answered was friendly & helpful.
When we arrived at the parking area for the dock on St Ignace all the staff was friendly & helpful. Throughly enjoyed the ferry ride.
FIVE STARS

This company was super friendly and helpful! Their shuttle also picked us up from our hotel. The driver was super nice as well!

LOST LUGGAGE! KEEP YOUR LUGGAGE WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES. THEY DENY ANY RESPONSIBILITY OF LOST LUGGAGE WHILE UNDER THEIR CARE.
Going to the island was smooth.
When you first drive to Sheppler’s Mackinaw City, the staff directs you to the luggage drop zone. Staff places a ticket on your luggage and gives you a matching claim ticket. They give you verbal instructions of where your bag will be upon arrival to the island.
You then purchase ferry tickets and parking at the ticket counter and drive your car to the fenced parking lots, at the direction of staff. From there you take a shuttle to the ferry.
Our luggage was already waiting secured at the hotel and we confirmed with our claim tickets.
We assumed the process would be the same with the returning ferry…
While docking the return ferry on the mainland, Shepler’s announced over speaker that all luggage was in a large unattended area and we were to self-confirm with our tickets we had the right pieces prior to leaving. This was surprising to us because this was the first time we were informed our luggage was not secured and we had no reason to anticipate this would be the case based on our experience to the island.
My parent’s garment bag was missing, despite hoping for the best.
When we notified the staff, they instructed us to contact our hotel. The hotel confirmed all pieces were given to Shepler’s. They reassured us this was COMMON and someone likely took the wrong bag. I filled out a lost luggage report and was told to call for the next few days, again reassuring it would likely turn up.
We called daily and it did not show up.
Today, my mother spoke to a very unprofessional male who sarcastically suggested her to call the police rather than Shepler’s for her missing luggage. When she asked what the next steps were to recover her things, he laughed and said there was no next step and it isn’t their responsibility.
I’m actually in shock of both the unprofessionalism we’ve encountered as well as the disorganized free-for-all your belongings are in upon return. I have traveled around the world to remote areas with a better system in place.
If we would have been informed by any one of the many employees we encountered that our luggage was not secure, we would have held on to our luggage during transport or found an alternative transport.
There were no “valuables” in our luggage per say, but I would consider a tailored suit, multiple dresses and blazers costly and am sad for my elderly parents who now have to replace their belonging, at no fault of their own.
The ferry itself is fine, but do not trust them to care for your belongings if you’re overnighting

I'll start by saying that you should park in the off-site lot unless you are staying on the island. The off-site lot is free and has shuttles/buses that take you to and from the dock. The off-site lot is free, the dock lot is something like $30 a day. The shuttles are fast and efficient. The one that took us back to the car is one like you would see at a theme park with 4-5 trailers full of people.
We took one of the earlier ferries to the island, so we got to go under the Mackinac Bridge, which was pretty cool. It allows for some photo opportunities. If you want to sit up top like we did, be aware that it get VERY windy. We sat inside on the way back.

Ferry runs on time, plenty free parking available as well as a free shuttle that picks up at nearby hotels. Ferry staff were all very friendly and I noticed that during each sailing someone was carpet sweeping! That impressed me! Regular trip takes about 15 minutes from St. Ignace to Mackinac Island. There are a few trips that take you under the bridge and gives a bit of information about it and that takes about 25 minutes total. They also run to and from Mackinaw City but we didn’t use that, no idea of the timing. We were very happy with this ferry!

On time
Professional staff and help
Free shuttle to the hotel
Frequent trips across to the island
Comfortable inside or outside

First time in the area and decided to choose Shepplers to get to Mackinac Island. Enjoyed the trip, went early and got to take the longer commute under the Mackinaw bridge. Lots of fun!!

We were on the 6:30pm ferry (boat's name was Captain Shepler) from M.I to Mackinac City on 8/16/2025. Normally, I have no complaints about Shepler's and typically very satisfied with the service, but the way the crew and CAPTAIN spoke to us was very unprofessional. We were on our way back from my bachelorette day-trip to the Island and it was raining lightly out. Naturally, the inside cabin seating of the boat was going to be full because people don't want to sit up top in the rain. There were only 7 of us, plus 1 baby sleeping in a car seat sitting inside, so it's not like we took up a lot of space. One of the crew members came up to my sister-in-law and advised she had to put her 2 month old baby on the floor in the aisle to make room for adults to have a seat. This is a WILD request to me. A TWO MONTH OLD IN THE AISLE? Is it not common knowledge that blocking an aisle (the only aisle) is a safety hazard/liability no matter the vessel or venue? With that logic, why not make the grown adults sit in the aisle? If something were to fall during the trip, wouldn't the adult be less affected than if something/someone were to fall on a baby? This crew member made my sister-in-law fully stand up and remove her car seat so other people could sit down. I can't recall everything said, I just remember this crew member being very domineering and adamant that the adults had priority and the safety of the baby meant very little to her. Multiple people told my sister-in-law to sit back down, which she did. Instead of recognizing that she was upsetting a lot of people with such an absurd request, this crew member kept fighting about it. A different crew member who witnessed this argument apologized and advised my sister-in-law she could stay seated because they found seating up top for the people looking for seats. The whole trip back, we were just so dumbfounded at the whole situation and honestly very angry. Once we reached the mainland, we were told the captain would like to speak with us about the situation. We thought maybe she'd offer an apology for how things were handled. NO. Captain Rachel made it very clear that WE were in the wrong and blamed us fully. "Normally people will willingly put their infants in the aisle without us even having to ask." I have a hard time believing that. "I'm sorry you were offended and took it the wrong way." Someone clearly did not go through the proper customer relations training. Everyone in customer service (including myself) knows the saying "even if they're wrong, the customer is always right." Obviously we were a little heated and angry coming from the situation on the boat, so to accuse, yell, and berate us for being offended by an outlandish request instead of simply saying "I'm sorry for how the situation was handled" is mind-blowing. We weren't looking for a refund, or free tickets on the next trip, just a simple "Sorry." Neither the crew member nor Captain Rachel was able to see past themselves and realize they were handling things poorly. We asked for corporate or a manager's contact information. Instead, Captain Rachel decided to yell at us and demand we leave. All I can really say is: Do Better. Put yourself in our shoes. Would you want your own 2 month old sitting in the aisle ANYWHERE? Likely not. While we had such a good time on the island, even in the rain, this ferry ride will be what we remember most of my bachelorette trip. I'm incredibly disappointed with how Shepler's team handled this. If you cannot handle interfacing with customers, maybe consider a different job. I don't plan on using your service again unless it is with anyone other than Captain Rachel. In hindsight, I wish I had taken photos or a video or ANYTHING of this interaction. I'm sure the cameras on the boat/docks can verify.

Got us to and from Mackinac Island quickly and efficiently. Buying tickets, lining up, getting on, sitting down, and disembarking were very easy.

This is a beautiful ferry ride to and from Mackinaw Island. Rides at the top of the hour to return back to Mackinaw city. There are both inside and outside seating. You can select the ferry that goes out and under the bridge so you can say you were in both Great Lakes!! Crew is pleasant and helpful, parking is easy and free for day trippers, and all are handicapped accessible

For my second experience taking a ferry to the island, I chose Shepler's boarding at the Mackinaw City pier, while my first visit a few years ago involved a trip from St. Ignace aboard the Arnold Transit Line, which apparently is no longer in business. During my recent ride, the outgoing Shepler's ferry took us on a little side trip under the Mighty Mac and we heard a bit of history about the bridge, which I enjoyed.
Having a wee bit of experience in riding ferries in a chilly climate, I opted for a front row seat in the lower enclosed deck, rather than up top in the open air. Vistas aren't 360 degrees below deck, of course, but quite a few passengers made their way downstairs during the 20-minute ride after deciding that the wind was too brisk above.
The ride was uneventful. The round trip price was $29 - no senior discount. Human passengers only - cars aren't allowed on the island, although you can pay extra to bring a bicycle. When I mentioned to the ticket agent that the Shepler's website did mention a discount for seniors ($27), she ignored me. If you happen to be staying at the Rainbow Motel in Mackinaw City, you can purchase discounted tickets there for $26 cash. Some of the other inns might offer discounted tickets. You can purchase a Mackinac Island guide on board for $2. No beverages or snacks are offered during the short ride.
Off season the boat leaves the island only one time per hour, on the hour. It departs the dock precisely on schedule. Get lined up early to secure seating on one of the benches provided. Otherwise it's a long wait while standing.

I’m not sure what the point of paying for premium parking 3 months in advance is if they are going to oversell the premium lot and force you to the off site lot, taking up extra time that you didn’t factor into your trip plans. If off site folks are sneaking premium spots, they should have lot attendants. If Shepler’s is selling spots that they have already sold, that’s terrible customer service. I’ve generally had good experiences here, but this time around left a bad taste.

Very efficient. Clean. Those ferry company has am efficient system good service. They have a very efficient system. Would definitely recommend

Nice big boat and friendly crew. We took the longer route to the island that takes you under the Might Mac bridge. I highly recommend you take the additional time to do this, which is probably only 15 minutes.

I've been on their boats before. I'll be back for sure. From the moment I drove up to ask about day parking and all, they know how to do this right. The shuttle, pulled by a tractor, picked me up at the free parking and brought me back at the end of the day. You can certainly walk through downtown and not use the shuttle since you aren't that far from everything. The boat is safe, the crew is so friendly, and who can't beat the views! It's excellent that you don't have to be there at a specific going to the Island or coming back. That flexibility means you aren't held captive to a boat schedule. Enjoy! Oh, yes there are midge at that time of year. They don't bite. They aren't mosquitoes. Once you are underway, you won't be bothered.

This Ferry service is first rate. We took our bikes and the person at St Ignace helped us unload, tagged our bikes and luggage and explained where to park and pay for the overnight parking. Tour under the bridge was great, make sure you are towards the front of the line to get a seat up top to get great pictures of the bridge. When we arrived at Mackinac Island they walked our bikes off and we were able to leave our luggage until we delivered our bikes to the B&B we stayed at and then came back for our luggage. Someone was even cleaning the carpet on our way back. Very impressive operation.

Leaving Mackinac Island one of our 5 bags was sent to St Ignace instead of Mackinac City. The baggage handlers @ St Ignace let the Mackinac City handlers know at 8:30 AM before we arrived. Thank you!!
However, we didn’t receive our lost bag until 11am. Putting us behind 2 and 1/2 hour on our 10 hour trip back home.
Emily the Mackinac City luggage handler was extremely helpful. Thank you Emily.
By Shepler’s company standards, it takes an hour to get the baggage to the correct city. That is completely understandable.
However, it took two and a half hours this time.
If it wasn’t for Emily’s persistence in tracking down the bag it may have taken even longer. She was very caring as she personally handed us our bag and apologized.
***I guess our biggest disappointment came from the response we received from Shepler’s front office when we made them aware of our situation and voiced frustration. Two of the people in management we spoke two immediately blamed Mission Point Resort for mishandling the bag, ignoring the 2:30 delay on their end. The stress that put on some of their own employees as they worked trying to help us.***
Shepler’s Management also explained that They could not compensate us for our time and stress because they don’t charge for a baggage handling.
They did charge us $13 to transport our each of our 3 bicycles. And $72 fee for each ferry ticket. Shepler’s ferry price must cover some of their baggage handling expenses.
Sorry Shepler’s. I don’t know if we will use your ferry when we return in July.
Thank you to Emily and the other mainland luggage handlers for your help, caring and persistence in tracking down our bag. Thank you for the care you took handing us our bag :)
As a side note: Another issue or traveling party had with Shepler’s was on our way to Mackinac Island. Some of our family member’s had 1/2 their luggage sent to the Grand Hotel instead of Mission Point. They took the 9:30 am Shepler’s ferry from Mackinac City and didn’t receive they baggage until 7:00 pm.

What a great way to see lighthouses ! Early morning beautiful & brisk. Thank you Capt Jeff and the guide from the the Lightkeepers Association.

Great service! Well organized!
Clean and beautiful boats.
Did the Mighty Mac tour. So much fun!!
Went 2 days in a row over to the island!

I was so surprised but delighted at the courtesy that EVERY SINGLE EMPLOYEE we spoke to or encountered with "Sheplers" was amazing! They were all extremely helpful and so incredibly kind EVERY SINGLE TIME! I made it a point to ask one of the ladies at the booth (right before boarding) if the company was family owned and she confirmed that it was. I told her my positive feedback and that compared to shop owners/workers down the street"Sheplers" blows them out of the water. She also informed us that "Sheplers" recently purchased "Star Line". I hope with the expanded company that they keep up their fantastic customer service. Well done "Sheplers!"
Side notes:
We intentionally caught the 9am ferry so we could get the longer ride under the bridge, we'll worth it.
Also, we caught the last ferry back (10pm) to Mackinaw City on Saturday night and were pleased to get to see 2 sets of fireworks.

I stayed on the Island 10/4-10/6! Parked my car in their secured Lot off E Wendell Rd D-2. I came back Sunday and to my surprise there was Plastic taped on my passenger window. I was shook, until I got closer and seen there was a note on my Driver window. They had noticed I left my window rolled down 🤦♀️ Lol. OMG I couldn’t believe I forgot to roll my window up!! Thank God the workers noticed that and took good care of my baby!! I was Impressed by your services!!! 10/10 Sheplers Parking!! Thank you for doing that to my car!!! 🚗😊

This is the best by far service to Mackinaw Island. So efficient and great people. Was amazed how smooth everything went. Safe competent crew in all aspects. From shuttle ,from parking lot, check in, all the crew were a well oiled machine. Plenty of help and smiles

We stayed at Tee Pee Campground in RVs and Sheppler's had a free shuttle which was very convenient. The process of getting to and from Mackinac Island was flawless. You have flexibility on returning as there are several time options.
My sunglasses fell out of my pants on either the shuttle or the ferry itself. I realized this when we got to Mackinac Island and called the office immediately to see if they had been turned in. They had not but I gave my information to them and a week later I got a call from Carrie telling me that they had been turned in and Sheppler's sent them to me via UPS. With so many clients and it being the Lilac Festival, Carrie went above and beyond during a busy time to contact me and I'm very appreciative!

If you're visiting Mackinac Island from Mackinaw City, this is the company to use. You're immediately greeted on arrival, given clear instructions for parking your car. Your luggage is taken and they give all details as to how it will get to your hotel. Overall, a very positive experience. The Grand Hotel could learn from them.

They are exceptionally well organized! Everything was made easy to understand and very fast. They went truly above and beyond my expectations when we returned to our car and found they had covered up a rear window on our car that I had mistakenly left open. There were several rounds of thunderstorms during the night we were parked there and they prevented my car from being full of water on our return.
I can’t say enough good things about them. Thank you Shepler’s!

Never been...yes..but viewed the review..beautiful..don't you know..community hospitality would be good...(see yourself now just like a dream in a dream)

I was nervous since this was my first time to Mackinac Island not knowing what to do once we got to Mackinaw city. As soon as we arrived at Shepler’s ferry there are plenty of staff directing you where to go for parking and how to unload your luggage. I bought my tickets ahead of time to save a few dollars and all tickets are round trip.
They do have on site parking that is more expensive or you have the option of parking a few blocks away that is cheaper and you are brought back by their shuttle.
Everything was seamless with our luggage. The porters tag your bags depending on what hotel you are staying at. Our bags actually got to our hotel before us. And coming back home the porter from our hotel brings our bags back to the dock.
Once the ferry arrives back in Mackinaw city you are escorted to a large tent to pick up your bags that are separated by hotels. I couldn’t believe how easy it all was.
Their teamwork and communication is excellent. I commend them as well for their customer service.
The ferry ride was only about 15 minutes. You can sit outside on the upper deck but we chose to sit inside since both days it was a little cooler outside.

They unloaded our luggage when we got there. They are very fast and friendly. The ride is very smooth.

We found a discount coupon and used that for $2 off our ride. They are well organized and the ride itself was excellent. Everyone was very friendly. We did not have to wait but a few minutes for a ride out or a ride back. They even took us under the Mackinaw bridge so people could see the bridge and say they had been in Lake Michigan as well as Lake Huron on the same boat ride.

The ferry is convenient, on-time and efficiently run. Buy your tickets ahead of time so you can just come and get in line for the ferry. Plenty of space inside the cabin as well as up top. We chose to sit up top even though it was a chilly morning. The sky was blue and the wind was at our backs. It was glorious and the view was magnificent.
Pat, at the ticket booth, was from Lancaster, NY originally which is one town over from our home town. We had so much fun discussing our favorite foods from the area. Had we known she was going to be there we would have brought her some of her favorites from our hometown. Pat was delightful to visit with and recommended some of the local restaurants to us for dinner.
There is preferred parking at the ferry dock for $45 per day or you can park at another lot and a shuttle will bring you to the dock. There are several shuttles running at all times and the wait is never long. It is a well-run operation.

Took the ferry over and back from the island. They loaded on our luggage from the bus tour group and wrapped it in plastic to keep it safe and dry. All luggage for the group of near 50 arrived safely there and back. Very friendly and well organized. They offer a map of the island onboard for 2 bucks. Recording onboard explains things you need to know. Ride was smooth. On the way out we rode under the bridge. Could see the Grand Hotel from the boat etc. Would recommend this ferry system.

By reading the reviews, we made a choice to book with Shepler's vs Star Line. Can't confirm anything about Star Line, but we can say that Shepler's was first rate. Their boarding procedure was easy to understand & parking was easy & free. The staff was friendly & helpful & the trip was fast. We elected to take the Big Mac trip for a short & sweet cruise under the Mackinaw Bridge. It was short alright & since we were one of the last on board, we were inside & couldn't get a picture, but still interesting commentary about the bridge. Recommend trying to be in the first 20 or so on the boat if possible. On the way back from the island we got to sit on top & that was much more enjoyable.

Travis! Thank you for all your help in getting me back to my hotel. You went above and beyond to help me out. I can't recommend this business enough!! Sincerely, your friend from Austin.

This ferry service is friendly and gets the job done ! Every care is taken for safety and concern of the passengers.

Very good service! Professional, on time, efficient and, reliable. I recommend only using this ferry service, we used both during our stay and saved 3 hours of waiting by using Shepler’s. They also have a great shuttle service which returned a phone promptly. We really appreciated them.

Great fun ride and staff was very helpful and friendly. Loved the morning ride under the bridge was the history of the bridge.

Organized. Clean. Very good for traveling with family. Friendly. Clear instructions. We enjoyed the ride

Best experience parking a car ever. Friendly employees and well organized. It was a great start to a wonderful vacation on the island.

Wow! What can I say that others have not already mentioned?? We took their ferry twice to the island and back and both times we were impressed. If you go in the morning try and get the 930am or so rides to the island as they will take you under the bridge. It is "surreal" to be under the bridge as traffic passes over you on top. And it only adds 5 or so minutes to the ride to the island. Heading back is equally enjoyable. But do yourself a favor and head to and park in the parking area (A) off of S. Nichol Avenue by the Mobile Gas Station first! The main parking area off of Central is for overnight/long term parking of ~$45.00USD per night, whereas the side parking in lot A is free and for day parking. The ride to and from the dock is maybe 5 minutes.

We were staying on the island overnight so Shepler's handled our luggage extremely well. Plenty of shuttles and the ride over and back was great.

If you ever use Sheplers to get to the island and back, I hope that you get Mario as a bus driver back to your parking lot. He was sweet and kind and patient. It was also a good driver. But he treated all of us that we're hauling bags and suitcases and luggage and shopping bags with kindness and patience. He was very cool. Thank you Mario

If you stay at certain hotels in Mackinaw City, Shepler’s will pick you up at the hotel. They will also return you to the hotel when you return from Mackinac Island. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Mackinaw City the night before we went to the island, and the front desk staff said that we could leave our rental car there at the hotel during the time that we were on the island. Kudos to the Holiday Inn for that option. When you arrive at the ferry terminal in Mackinaw City you simply pass your luggage to one of the ferry employees and they put it on the boat. Likewise, when you arrive at the island, employees unload the luggage and, depending on the hotel that you’re staying at, will take your luggage to the hotel. Picking up our luggage on the return was similarly very. The boat was clean and quiet.

Great service to Mackinac Island with a tour of the bridge. Could also package all the tickets to the Grand Hotel, horse drawn carriage tours, and Fort Mackinac. Very convenient and easy to get to to as well.

Wonderful service from Shepler’s Ferry. Buying tickets was easy and the employees were very cordial and informative. We were told we could call the morning of our excursion and Sheplers would pick us up. They were prompt and friendly and got us to the ferry easily. The ride to Mackinac Island was beautiful. Recommend Shepler’s for your island visit!!

Shepler’s is always our choice for travel from Mackinac City or St. Ignace to Mackinac Island. It’s clean, efficiently run, and has professional staff. We almost always ride on top for better views. You can get wet but the staff warns you before departing about where on top that’s likely to happen.

Can’t beat Shepler’s. These folks have been ferrying guests to Mackinac Island for decades. Boats are comfortable, clean, and very fast. Booking online was efficient and quick.

Everything on ferry was great and lots of departure times to and from the island, very convenient. Great company

Starline ferry is the service offered by the camping site we were staying at. Milkcreek Camping offers shuttle service and discounted tickets. However, when I went to purchase them I was informed that the ferry’s were having difficulty and that Shepplers was honoring the tickets, maybe. I chose to go to the dock to see about passage. There was a very long line and I bought the tickets online with a $2 discount. The line moved quickly and we boarded in less time than stated. The trip to the island took only 15 minutes. Shepplers staff was very efficient and friendly.

We took the Shepherd ferry ride to Mackinac Island. We went under the Mackinac bridge before the quick trip to the island.

Extremely organized and well run facility. Staff are very courteous. The ferry was great to with the commentary about the bridge

Professional and helpful service for first time visitors. They were awesome in every aspect - directions, tips, and very, very efficient. Thoroughly enjoyable experience and a local, family run company.

We purchased our discounted tickets at the hotel so we could get right into line, get there early and try to get on the ferry ride that goes under the Mackinaw Bridge as an added bonus. This ferry knows what they are doing and we enjoyed our ride

Ventilation is poor in the cabin. With over 100 people dripping in rain crammed together with no air and 77 degrees outside, it was very uncomfortable to the point of claustrophobia. Many people complained about it.

After arriving at Sheplers parking lot, we spent the next two hours and 10 minutes standing in lines until we finally got to the island. Coming back, it took a much more expedient hour and a half of standing in line, with no explanation from Shepler’s so we basically spent almost half of our day standing in line because of their incompetence. Been using Shepler’s to get to the island for over 50 years and have never experienced anything like this.

We booked online including parking and carriage tours on the Island. Parking was straight forward; you take a shuttle to Ferry and just get in line. Show your QR code and you are on! Don't have to reserve a time, dogs are welcome, well-organized. I would recommend going as early in the morning as possible to get on the island and start your magical day. We did the 9 am tour (I wanted to go earlier but my family was not cooperating!) and so we got to go around the Mighty Mac bridge which was a nice detour.

We had easy loading and unloading thanks to their wonderful staff. They assisted us without ever needing to be asked. They have a routine that works.

Speedy transport and beautiful views. We were fortunate enough to sit on the top level so had a panoramic view. If you want to sit up top make sure you are in line early to catch a top seat. The lines were pretty long but moved quickly once they started boarding. Would recommend going out to the island and walking around to see all the sights.

Every time we get to Mackinaw City, the sight of the Shepler’s dock makes me so excited for our trip to the Island. The employees are so amazing and the entire operation is first-class. We just returned from our annual trip to the Island and I couldn’t believe the stories I was hearing about 3 hour waits for Star Line and the horrific lines of people. Not at Shepler’s though! Customers for life!

What a great way to get from Mackinaw City to Mackinac Island and back! The ferry is absolutely spot on time and extremely clean. The crew was great and the ride perfect.

They sent a shuttle to pick us up from our hotel and took us back when we returned from the island. You can purchase tickets on line and have the QR code scanned when you are ready to board. The only issue I had was having cell service on the island and was not able to access the email with the QR code when we had to go back. Unless you have great service, I would suggest you print a paper copy, just in case. Other than that hiccup, everything was great. Everyone was great.

I think you hear "ferry" and may think the worst but no... this was a great experience. Shepler's seems to have this process down to a science; no time is wasted; they tell you what to expect along with some history of the area; very efficient and smooth journey...highly recommend for your trip to Mackinac Island

There are two ferry companies. This one is very convenient to the downtown shops. They depart every 30 minutes and if you get the right trip, they even take you under the bridge!

Eric restored my hope in humanity.
On our return Ferry from Mackinaw Island to St Ignace one of my bags was absent from the baggage retrieval. It had over $1000 worth of equipment inside. We told Travis what happened and he immediately went to work trying to track down where it may have gone missing. My wife and I had hotel reservations in a different city. We had to be on our way back home. I was in contact with my hotel and Shepler's that day and the days that followed. It became clear that someone had taken the bag from the baggage retrieval in St. Ignace. We all thought the person who took the bag would realize their mistake and either call our hotel or Shepler's since it was tagged. Days turned into weeks and there was no call.
Eric, the manager at Shepler's, went through security video and saw an elderly couple take the bag. The only problem is we didn't know who they were. Their hotel, The Lakeview, would not cooperate in helping us identify them. As the weeks turned into a month I reported the bag stolen to the St Ignace police. They seemed pessimistic. The feeling of indifference, all too familiar, lulled me into giving up ever getting my bag back. I just didn't expect anyone to try that hard.
Then, out of the blue, I get a call. It's Shepler's. So far I had been doing the calling. Eric told me he had good news. He had been working on the problem. It seems he had gone through quite a bit of effort looking at security footage and trying to match it with ticket office charges. He hit on the right strategy. He was able to match the elderly couple in the ticket office footage with the couple in the baggage retrieval footage! Then he was able to match the charge records with the couple. He had a name! Then he found them on Facebook! He had already arranged for my bag to get mailed back to me. He took care of all of it. I owe Eric a big thanks for getting my valuables back to me but more than that I want to thank him for giving a dam. Thanks Eric.

Really started our visit off on a high note. The lady working the day parking gate was so friendly! And the tram and boats were on time and efficient. Everything felt smooth and safe. The only feedback I'd add is to include some sort of shade on the docks on the island (if allowed).

$31.00 per person seems a little pricey to me. But we took an early ride so we could do the under the bridge tour. It was pretty cool to see underneath it. Smooth fast ride. Staff was nice and friendly.

I have used Shepler's many times over the years and they are just wonderful. They are very clean and always on time. Their system is fast and efficient and the staff is always very helpful. It is obvious they take great pride in the service they deliver!!

Amazing trip to Mackinaw Island with this ferry. It was easy to get on off the ferry parking was easy too. What a great group of people working the ferry.

Great ride to the island! Enjoyed the slow ride & under the bridge & tour guide. Return trip was super fast. We sat below going & on top return.

I love the professionalism of the crew. I felt completely safe. I knew It would get chilly and I had a wonderfully warm hoodie from a hoodie store in Mack city. Be sure to have a sweatshirt or something warm for the ride.

We recently took the Shepler Ferry to Mackinac Island from the Mackinaw City dock. From the second we arrived it was clear that this was a well run organization. The first attendant was cheerful and polite. He took his time to give us insights and next steps. We pulled up to the ferry, dropped off our luggage and were off to the parking lot in less than 5 minutes. After parking offsite, the shuttle was waiting for us and took us right to the ferry. We got our tickets, got on the line, and took a nice ride over to the Island. The return lines can be pretty long, but we came back off-hour, so we had no issue.
Smooth, easy, efficient and polite! What more can you ask for?

They want you to book ahead which is fine and then charge you a courtesy fee of $1.50 per person for using a credit card. When you arrive you show the printed ticket and they advise you to get another ticket to enter the area where you are directed to ( make sure you keep this ticket so you can leave the parking area to drive to the off site parking area) a parking area where to drop off you luggage where you are met by a person who takes your luggage and gives you another ticket so you can pick up you luggage when you arrive on Mackinac Island. So at this point you have at least 3 tickets to keep up with. Possibly more if you have multiple pieces of luggage. Of course although not requested but probably expected to tip the person who takes your luggage. You are then directed to the parking desk where they check your ferry ticket and pay for your parking. On the dock is $50 per day and four blocks away is $25 a day. Of course they charge you another $1.50 for using a credit card and give you another ticket to keep up with. You are then told where to park four blocks away (if you choose the $25 per day option). You drive there and hang the parking pass on the rear view mirror and keep the ticket that shows where you park. You then board the shuttle back to the dock and get in line for the ferry over to the island. Once on the island you are directed where to pick up your luggage and are bombarded by people who want to take you to your hotel by horse carriage or cart. We choose to just roll ours since our lodging was close by, so not sure what the cost is for the horse taxi or cart. So now you still have three tickets to keep up with. Do not loose your ferry ticket because you will not be permitted to board the ferry back. Good luck.

Love Shepler’s. We use them every time we come across to Mackinac. The on site parking in St Ignace makes transition from car to island very easy. The staff is AMAZING. We usually bring over a couple of bikes, but this time we brought our puppy. Everyone made sure we got our gear and puppy on board quickly. Transfer to Mission Point was also seamless.

High winds and cool temperatures forced us (meaning everyone) to huddle on the enclosed lower deck for the 20-minute ride to the dock on Mackinac Island. It could have been so much better outside but as it was the waves even obscured the view from the lower-level windows on both the ride over and the ride back two days later, not their fault but be aware that the smiling folks you see pictures of on the upper deck don’t happen every day.
The 35-dollar ride sounds like a bargain till you start adding up all the costs. My fault that I chose the secure parking option but an assist with checking my bags (taking then from me as I lifted then from the trunk of my car) steps from the ferry and parking a few minutes’ walk away was worth the extra cost as was the convenient retrieval of my bags on the return trip, that had come over on an earlier boat. Safe and convenient parking for my car was comforting.
Staying at the Grand Hotel the handing of your bags is seamless in both directions, waiting at check-in for us without ever handling them and the same on the return trip. I know the hotel tacks on an extra charge for the convenience but it truly is a convenience. Everyone I met was friendly, courteous and helpful. The years they’ve been in business really shows with the professional job they do and the sparkling clean image they portray.
Why go anywhere else?

This ferry was not only conveniently located to our hotel but is a well oiled machine. The trip to Mackinac is quick and efficient. They load passengers, luggage, bikes in what seems like record time. We were impressed with their whole process.

Grab your camera and sit on top on left side to take the best pictures of the Grand Hotel from the water. It only takes 16 minutes to travel from Mackinaw City to the island aboard Ms. Margie. Very efficient loading and on-time departures.

We made reservations for the ferry while going to Mackinac Island. We were taken to the ferry from the airport, the ferry staff took our bags and told us they would be delivered to the hotel on the Island. After that we waited comfortably for about 15 minutes and the ferry came, let people off, then we boarded and their was plenty of room on the top deck or the covered bottom if you preferred. Then it was a quick 18 minute run to the Island. Quick, efficient and professional!

We got to ride the Ferry that circled around the bridge and it was so cool! It's a neat little touch that made Shepler's worth it.

Our first ferry ride and it was excellent. Crew was nice, courteous, and professional. They helped us return to the right port after we wronged into a different one because of our hotel tickets, where our dog stroller got put off at the wrong port. Thankfully the Captain radioed back and they found and put back our stroller for retrieval. Can't thank them enough! All of the staff! EV charging at (at least?) their Day Lot on S Nicolet St in Mackinaw City. Excellent!

This business is exceptionally well run. Very well staffed with individuals who can answer any and all questions. They are also very friendly and helpful. Grounds are neat as are the boats.

Used this service to visit Mackinac Island two weeks ago. The ships are clean and fast, and the crew exceptionally courteous. We had to park off-site and take a shuttle, then we waited outside in a long line, in the sun, for quite some time at the Mackinaw City facility. The St Ignace side has shorter wait times and more convenient parking.

Beautiful, quick trip to Mackinac Island. We took the Might Mac trip which goes under the bridge. I would suggest that if you plan to take the Mighty Mac trip, you do not arrive for the first one. We told the ticket booth that is what we were there for, and they has us and a few other groups stand aside for the next ferry, which was scheduled to be the first Mighty Mac. However, once we were back in line, the next ferry arrived ahead of schedule and they said it would not go to the bridge and they would not let us out of line. Luckily, a crew member was able to get the captain to take the mighty mac course, but be aware that your mileage may vary and they first ferry on that schedule may not visit the bridge, at the captain's discretion.

We got great views of the lake and had a fun time. The staff was nice and did a great job keeping us organized and on time. It was a big ship, which our son enjoyed. We enjoyed going under the Mackinac Bridge and learning facts about it. Would definitely ride again.

We have went to the island a number of times over the past 20 plus years and have always been pleased. Professional, and friendly.

These people know what they are doing and do it well and effectively. We purchased tickets on line to make the process a bit easier, this made the day of travel so much more easy.

What an absolutely efficient operation. When we arrived, there was a huge line. The folks at the ticket booth were wonderful, informative, and helpful. That long line moved along quickly. Everyone of their team members were helpful and knowledgeable about every part of their operation. Highly recommend them!!!

Sat on the upper deck...great 15 to 20 minute ride to Mackinac Island. Shuttle service picked us up and dropped us off in St, Ignace, Michigan. Views of the Mackinac Bridge, lighthouses and the shoreline. Efficient boarding process. They also tag your bikes and luggage. Dogs allowed!

Nice ride back and forth to Mackinac Island. Nice staff. Upper levels and inside available for different passengers, can bring dogs and bikes as well. Get there early because there are lots of people.

I would have rated this ferry a 5 except for the fact that when we got off the boat our luggage was not on the boat with us. We waited 30 min to get on the ferry then we had to wait over 30 more minutes in “hopes” that our bags would eventually arrive. Employees were friendly and boat was clean. They are very organized and would have been a great experience until the end. What a disappointment. Take your bags with you especially if you need to catch a flight or are on a time schedule. They have a gift shop and clean bathrooms. Parking is safe. I left my car for 4 days and everything was fine when we returned.

Check in was efficient, ride was fine, boat was clean. Ladies any type of real human interaction. It used be be a friendly fun crew

This is one of the ferry lines serving Mackinac island. It is professionally run, clean, and has a good safety record. Discount tickets are easily purchased in advance of travel. Make certain to keep your receipt because it will be required on the return trip to the mainland.

Good quick trip to Mackinaw Island. They are very professional at moving large numbers of people efficiently. Trip took about 145 minutes.

all in all they were friendly and organized. But on the return trip, afetr we had breakfast and coffee and headed to the dock. the restrooms were closed till 8.. our boat leaves at 8 no bathroom on board !! not a comfortable ride. the folks around us had to too, they also thought it was stupid to NOT have a bathroom available before departure.

We just can't say enough good things about this operation. We parked in the free parking, walked a few feet to the buses which took people to the pier. You can buy tickets there for the Fort Tour (do it) and carriage Tour (also do it). There is a lot of walking (9500 steps 7 hours) and we saw maybe 15%. Folks brought their own bikes seamlessly. We went over at 0830 and the ride over was COLD. Dress in layers (maybe a hoodie). Return trip seamless--ferries leave every 30 min at the top of the hour and below. Takes 16 minutes to get to the island.

Blows their competition (Star Ferries) out of the water! Sheplers is a very professional operation from start to finish. Helpful, courteous, and organized.

We chose Shepler’s Ferry when we visited Mackinac Island and I would definitely use them again! They know how to do this job of getting people back and forth to the island, some with luggage. They will greet you, label your luggage with a tag for your hotel, load it on their ferry for you, deliver it to the hotel, and the hotel will deliver it to your room. Worked seamlessly! You can park free for a day visit or pay to overnight park. Their website explains all that. They run from St Ignace and from Mackinac City as well. The ferry ride is about 20 minutes long and you can ride inside or on top. The roughness just depends on the weather but we had a very pleasant ride even on a windy day. My only suggestion would be more signage for first timers on the island side so we would know where to go with luggage on the return ride when no one is there to ask. You can be confident in choosing Sheplers for your ferry choice … they know how to do this!

This was our second time using Sheplers. I have no complaints about the actual ferry ride. The boat was clean and the people working were friendly. My beef is that they lost my sisters suitcase. When we left, the dock porter picked up our luggage to take to Sheplers dock. When we arrived in Mackinac City, my suitcase was waiting. My sisters was not. We had a shuttle waiting and a flight to catch! The shuttle driver waited for the next ferry to come in, just in case the bag was on it. It wasn't. I overheard someone who works there say that was the forth bag that day to go missing, and it wasn't even noon!! They took my sisters info and we had to leave without her bag. A couple days later they finally located it..in St. Ignace. My sister had to give them her credit card info to get it shipped to Kansas, but they did reimburse her for shipping charges. My suggestion..don't let them take your bags. Keep them with you!

Shepler's is a fine operation. They transport a great deal of people and goods in a very efficient way. They don't scrimp on help. The staff is friendly and helpful. Also, the ferries are very well kept.
My only negative is that there is no information given about what to do in case of an emergency.

Pirate Ship
My son booked this ship which goes under the Mackinac Bridge, then to the Island.
They song happy birthday to me,also gave me a gift. This was so much fun!!!

Paid for ferry tickets online. It does cost an extra $30 to park overnight. A LOT of misdirection from separate employees when dealing with the parking experience, from where to park to how to pay. Ferry ride was nice.

Shepler's is fast and friendly. Our wait time was short. They are well organized. The captain was super nice.

Smooth trip. Frequency of trips is excellent. Clean. Helpful with luggage if needed. Basically one of two choices to get across.

This is a first-class experience. Well run and organized. We traveled with our two year old, luggage, and two bikes and the entire experience was efficient and painless.

The ONLY reason why I docked a star is because there is no security or bag check. I would have felt safer traveling with all those people if there would have been some kind of scan. The ferry ride and boarding were both smooth processes, and I usually get sea sick. I did not on this boat.

We pre-purchased tickets online for our recent trip to the island and the service and efficiency of Shepler's is unparalleled. When staying overnight on the island, you do need to buy overnight parking. You will pull up first to an unloading zone very close to the ferry and you tell the porters where you are staying. If you are at the bigger hotels, they will send your luggage off ahead of you directly to the hotel. If you are at a smaller place, there is a luggage claim area when you disembark on the Island. Once luggage has been taken care of, you drive your car to an overnight lot about a mile away and take the shuttle back to the ferry. You then get in line and board for a 16 minute ride to the Island. They were running ferries every 15 minutes the Saturday of Labor Day weekend and we did not have to wait at all (beyond a 5 minute boarding line) to get a spot. You can choose the top open air deck or the closed lower level, provided there is room. The top tends to fill up faster. You will pay extra for a bike or pet so check out their website for all the ticket info. Buying online lets you skip the line at the dock and is super easy.

While staying in Mackinaw City we decided to take the ferry to Mackinac Island for the day. Took the early ferry that also went under the bridge. Ok commentary but I would skip it next time. Also, seeing as it is September, I recommend sitting indoors as we started out in the upper deck and the wind was brutal. It is a quick 15 - 20 minute ride.

it was the most terrible experience i had on the rainy windy day we were to stay seated so pictures were imposable and others with children were yelling and screaming and crying not a good day with my hearing aids

Wonderful ferry ride to Mackinaw Island. The captain wasn't sure that we could take the ride over to see the Mackinaw bridge but the fog lifted enough for him to take us under it. We took our bikes to use on the island. Great experience.

We took the ferry that went under the Mackinaw bridge. I talked about the bridge, I wish they could have said more. It was a good ride, on top deck it got a bit cold, but was fun. 18-20 minute ride to the island. A tip for VETS-Get your tickets at the window, not on line or the hotel, have an id of sorts showing vet status. Thats what I did and instead of paying $34 a ticket, I paid $24 a ticket.

Be prepared for a very long wait…extremely long lines! We waited an hour and a half to get on the ferry. We should have left

I thought it was kind of dumb to go out of the way just to go under a bridge. But it's a perspective you seldom get to see otherwise and it was worth the extra time.
Dress warmly though. It gets cold out there, especially if you want to sit up top going under the bridge... And I don't know why you wouldn't.

We visited Mackinac Island on a day that ended up being a blustery one. Our trip back to Mackinaw City was an exciting one- my husband and I sat on top of the ferry and it was quite the ride! Overall, the ferry ride was great and the employees are helpful.

The ride to the Island was enjoyable. The water is so blue on a sunny day. The staff is friendly and organized. Seats are small and tight together on the lower deck.

Ferries are clean and comfortable on the water. Professional, pleasant and plentiful staff. It was easy to take our bikes across to avoid rentals !!

You can stay down in the enclosed seated area or climb up to the top to enjoy your ride. Great staff, very helpful and a clean boat. If you are staying overnight, you can park in the Shepler lot or choose a lot off premises for cheaper. If you stay in the lot it is $35 nightly, off lot $15 nightly. They will shuttle you to your car and back to the boat or visa versa.

Very efficient. You drop off you bags and then park your car. It is $35 per day to park on the lot. Less if you do the remote parking.
Buy tickets online ahead of time. It makes boarding very easy.
If you stay at The Grand Hotel, your bags will be delivered directly to your room or to the ferry from the hotel when you return the other way.
The ferry runs often each way and your ticket doesn’t list a travel time so you just board at the time closest to when you arrive at the dock.

Impressive ferry company. Organized, friendly staff, clean boats. Excellant customer service, helpful information when calling with questions. Phones answered fast (unusual these days). Really made our trip over to and from Mackinac Island easy and pleasant.

Very pleased with both trips, parking and taking care of the luggage. Made sure people had their masks on.

I am a nervous traveler and worry excessively. But taking the ferry over to Mackinac Island was one thing we didn't need to worry about!
As soon as we arrived, before we even entered their gates, a woman greeted us and asked us if we were staying overnight. She proceeded to direct us where to temporarily park and drop off our luggage. We then handed our luggage to another individual who gave us our baggage claim tickets and directed us where to purchase ferry tickets and parking. The line was relatively quick. We drove to the parking lots less than a mile away. Another person stopped us when we were nearing the lots, gave us a parking ticket and directed us to lot D where yet another person directed us exactly where to park. Minutes after we parked, a shuttle bought us back to the lot.
We just missed the 3:30 so we took the opportunity to use the relatively clean facilities. We waited for the next ferry under a covered area with limited seating. Since we arrived early, we were able to snag a bench. The ferry came on time. We chose to sit on the top deck. Make sure to sit on the left side (facing the front of the boat) to get good shots of the bridge!
Upon arrival we walked to our hotel which was conveniently right next to the dock. Our bags were brought directly to our room!
What a great overall experience. Bravo, Shepler's! I don't often give out 5 stars... But this time it was worth it!
Other:
1. You can pay extra to park right at the dock. $30 per night vs. $10. We chose the latter.
2. You can buy ferry tickets on line but not parking fees.
3. There is a Irish pub you can wait at if you arrive early.
4. Buy the $2 book on the boat - great info on the island and good map.

This ferry service to the island is very efficient. Ride on top for the true experience. The views of the water, bridge and island are incredible. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

We chose a boat time that would go under the bridge and get some history about it. Great short ride over. Lines can be long but move fairly fast. Check out their times so you’ll know what fits fit you. Lots of people took on bikes with no problems.

The trip to the island was a Mighty Mac crossing which is always fun. We brought our bikes and the staff took good care of them. The lake was rough on the return trip and the captain announced the best place to sit if you wanted to avoid getting wet. Parking for day trips is at a remote location with shuttle service. The shore staff said we could leave our bikes to go park and shuttle back, they made the parking lot sound miles away when, in fact, it was only a couple of blocks and an easy ride. Friendly and accommodating staff, highly recommend.

We have used Shepler's many times, and always are pleased with the service, the staff, and the experience. Though the premium parking was full this time, riding the shuttle from and to an off site lot was easy and quick. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

The 9:30 a.m. ferry from St. Ignace to Mackinac Island took us under the Mackinac Bridge. Awesome!
So is the fireworks by Sheplers after 10 p.m. The boat looks new and clean. The crew has a nice-looking uniform and are courteous.
I like the spray of water that the ferry makes😊.

First ride on the ferry was uneasy about getting sick on the boat. No problem at all. Ride was fast and smooth. Workers were very nice!

It was our first ever trip to Mackinac Island, my son bought us a gift card to go after he went with his girlfriend and loved it and knew I would love it too, I have read many many reviews between both Shepler's Ferry Service and Star Line. Well let me tell you Shepler's had so many positive reviews and the other company had alot of negative reviews.
We didn't know weather to part in St Ignance or in Mackinaw City and after much research St Ignance is only $10 overnight parking for your car Mackinaw City is much more per night to park. We had no idea what to expect. We pulled in, we were shown to a parking spot a great gentlemen took our bags gave us a claim tag for when we got to the island and told us where to park for the night. We parked then went to the window to buy our round trip ferry passes as well as our parking pass, I asked the girl behind the window if they had a Triple AAA discount and she said yes $2.00 of per ticket so we saved $4.00 hey $4.00 is $4.00 now a days. We then got in a line mostly in the shade under cover to wait to board the ferry. We didn't wait much more than 10 minutes as the boats run every half hour all day then they run once at 6 p.m. 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.
The boat was fun if you sit on the top out in the open you have great views of the area all the way over to the island it takes about 15 minutes. The drivers are great they dock these Ferry's like they have been doing it for years. You dock get off go right up the dock hand the porter your ticket and get your luggage it is a very smooth, well organized process we were very impressed.
The whole process is very precise and stress free. I would highly recommend this Ferry line and if you choose to buy your tickets online it also saves you a bit of money, and you can buy tickets anytime to use anytime the whole season

Pretty smooth experience. The staff was friendly and polite. Traveling to the Island 4th July weekend is busy, but had a pleasant experience on Shepler's ferry,

As usual, we enjoyed our trip to Mackinac Island, on the ferry. We prefer this ferry over the others. It is clean, well run, staff is friendly and organized.

Shepler's has definitely gotten this process streamlined. Everything and every employee was super efficient and friendly. Super organized operation. I would recommend Shepler's to anyone!!! I felt perfectly safe. the ride and view were spectacular.

We booked our ferry ride at the same time as booking our hotel. Sheplers had great staff, easy parking and shuttle, and made for a VERY enjoyable trip to the island!

Such a great experience! I bought tickets online, was super impressed with the information I got from Debra in the office. We also bought our carriage ride tix at this time. We loved the ride, each person we encountered was so professional.

There are actually other ways to get onto the island, but this one seems to be the most convenient.
The shuttle will pick you up at most hotels and delivers you back again. Make your reservation on line and simply call when you are ready, and at the curb. It arrives quickly. You can take your car and park in their large parking lot, but there is a fee.
If you don’t mind the detour, some of the ferries make a quick trip under the bridge for a quick closeup. Check the brochure or call for specific times. In general, the seats are first come first serve, and there are no reservations, so arrive a little early to guarantee your preferred seating.
Remember to check the departures times. The last ferry is the LAST ferry and rooms on the island are expensive and hard to find, especially last minute.
You can sit comfortably inside or on the top, but depending on surf conditions, the top might be a little wetter from the spray.
The crew was very nice, but remember to ask them about the destination, because the ferry services different locations.

Nice , clean vehicle to get to the Island. Ran on time, employees were friendly and accommodating. We didn't sit in upper deck as it was colder but the views were awesome from the lower deck. Exiting the boat at the Island was smooth and employees insured everyone was safe when exiting.

We pre-paid our round trip enhanced ferry ride tickets(helps get thru line quicker) Paid for on sight over night parking at the ferry yard. We showed up an hour early to make sure we had time to get parking and time to get our bags on the ferry. Every one was very helpful and kind. Please help the attends keep the line moving. Great ride over and the same 3 days later when we returned. Stellar service.

After looking through pricing and finding some online savings, we went with Shepler’s for our day trip to the island. We wanted to take the Mighty Mac for the narrative tour but due to the wind and other weather issues, they were not offering that ride. We initially sat up top for the views but were warned that we would get very wet and it was only in the low 40’s. We sat in the cabin and had an enjoyable ride. We had decided since we were going back to our Airbnb after our ride home, we would sit on top since it didn’t matter if we got wet. Again, we were warned about getting wet, especially due to how rocky the waves were and were told we would be so wet that we might as well jump in the lake. We again went down to the cabin and enjoyed the ride back. The people who stayed in top were soaked and freezing cold so we were happy with the warning again and that we moved.

Beautiful area. Well organized and manned. The only advice I have is to get there AT LEAST 45 minutes earlier than they suggested. We had to sit inside next to a window that didn’t open.

Shepler's has a system to get you off loaded, ticketed, parked and on your way in quick order. The staff is friendly, helpful and knowledgable. The boats are clean, sharp little ferry's without any added dorkiness (aka idiotic rooster tails) and will get you to the island with the least amount of rolling possible. If you wait after boarding a crew member will dry off wet seats for you if you are sitting on the top deck. The 'Mighty Mac' departures take you directly out and under the bridge with a short talk about fun bridge facts then you zoom out to the island. Its as easy a pie to debark and enjoy your trip.
Pro tip #1: if you are sitting on the top deck - sit all the way forward for less windage.
Pro tip #2: if you are parking off-site then wait to unload your bikes until you park and you can easily ride them back to the ferry dock - you walk onboard with your own bikes at which point a crew member will take them and park them.

Organized and well run . Very fun experience. Had a very short wait both to and from the island but Sheplers did a great job and the staff was very friendly.

While the ferry ride itself was fine, we paid a premium for the closer parking near the ferry and our car was covered with mites when we returned. Those bugs got into the car as soon as we opened the doors and we were swatting bugs for the next 45 minutes. Disgusting. The company showed no sympathy for our situation and told us parking was a no refund policy.

Quick ride to Mackinac Island. Staff is friendly and helpful. They had free shuttle service to our hotel which was a nice convenience.

If you want a superb experience going to Mackinac Island, do not use any other ferry service, Shepler has been in the industry for a long time and it shows. Extremely well organized and friendly staff. Parking lot was secure so I had no worries about leaving my vehicle there. Best experience ever!! Highly recommend.

Top notch ferry service to/from Mackinac Island. All the Shepler's ferry vessels looked clean and well maintained. Crew members and staff were all friendly, professional, and safety conscious. Nice facilities and large parking lots for those that need a parking spot (parking is not free).

We've always used Sheplers Ferry to get to Mackinac Island from St. Ignace when we have stayed in St. Ignace. (5 years) We love that the shuttle will come pick you up/drop off, whether you're at a nearby hotel or campground. (Call for pick up- shuttles will be on standby when you get off the ferry) The crew members are always polite and friendly with us and the kids! The views to and from the Island are beautiful!! The online ticket ordering is very convenient too, but you can purchase tickets and additions in person too.

loved it grandchildren said it was like being in another world loved all of it.
my husband is a veteran received some nice little discounts. we sent 2 and a half days there wish it could have been longer but we crammed in everything we coul we ate at the Grand worth every penny! various carriage rides and tour.Fort.,
sho
pping Shepliers was great I had a walker very helpful

I was super impressed with the whole operation.
-it offers trips every 30 minutes and stayed on schedule.
-The price was very reasonable.
-it was a quick and comfortable ride.
-It coordinated with the airport and the hotels to make luggage transportation relatively seamless.

Only service available when we went to the island bc we went late in the season but the ride was reasonably priced and a pretty smooth ride. The weather was absolutely gorgeous for late September. It was a great time of year to catch the ferry. We didn’t have a very long wait on either ride. We parked at the shipyard abs paid for overnight parking and our vehicle was safe and our luggage made it to and from without an issue. We were sad to leave the island it was so peaceful and perfect.

The boat's were nice and spacious. Staff seemed proficient and knowledgeable. Beautiful view of lake Huron!

Staff was super helpful from the time we arrived, parked the car in the close-in lot, bought our tickets, boarded the ferry with 5 minutes to spare, loaded our bags on the ferry, unloaded bags off the ferry and safely to the porter who would take them to my hotel. Helpful and courteous. I left from the St Ignace dock. Upon return I found my driver's side window covered in black plastic which was fastened down with painters tape. Turns out I had a "stupid moment" after getting my ticket and parking, leaving my window DOWN. Good grief! Staff saw this, and covered the window to keep the rain out (and we had some while I was on Mackinac). Bless them! The vehicle was fine and dry. Nothing missing from the car either. What great people. What great service. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Shepler's has a very well-organized operation. I made sure to understand the process for dropping luggage, purchasing tickets and parking, etc. before travel, but even if we had driven up with no knowledge, directions from the helpful staff would have been sufficient for successful transits.
Shepler's has friendly staff and enough of them to keep the flow of customers moving smoothly from the entrance to the luggage drop (for those spending nights on the island) to the ticket office to pay for tickets and parking with a map of the parking lots. We tipped the dock luggage handler who tagged our suitcases and cooler for our island hotel.
We chose off-site parking which was less expensive but still in a fenced lot a few blocks away. At the parking lot, an attendant directed our parking and then put us on a shuttle back to the ferry terminal. At the terminal, we were soon on the boat in seats on the top level for good views on a sunny morning.
We chose to take one of the morning ferries that detours under the Mackinaw Bridge before going to Mackinac Island. It adds 10 minutes to the ride, but for us the up-close view is worth the extra time (total 26 minutes plus time to disembark).
At the island, we were soon off the ferry where we learned that our luggage was already on its way via the hotel porter. We were far too early to check in, but we dropped by the hotel to leave our cell number for contact when the suite was ready. The hotel porter delivered our luggage to our room, and we made sure to tip him for his service.
Since we had only done car ferries in the past, I was interested to see how all of this would work. I must say, it was easy and pleasant.
On board the ferry, the crew was professional and friendly. For both transits, the trip was safe and well-managed. The elderly, children, and disabled were sufficiently accommodated.

Arrived an hour ahead of the ferry time we wanted and there was quite a crowd already. Was able to purchase tickets and pay for parking all online via QR code on a sign in the parking lot. Staff for the ferry came through the line and scanned everyone’s tickets before boarding. 15-20 minute scenic ride to the island was smooth. Returning back to the mainland was also easy - the ferry staff checked tickets again and we lined up to wait to board. Ride back was also smooth. I feel like it’s slightly expensive for such a short trip, especially since you’ll be spending on the island as well, but it was a quick and easy process so we just paid and enjoyed the day.

We walked up and it was like a Disney line but it moved fast. We didn’t catch the first ferry but didn’t have to wait long for the next one. The whole process went smoothly and in no time, we were at the other side. Ferry’s were clean.

The entire trip was wonderful. The tickets were less than the competition. The off-site parking was close and FREE. Everyone was very nice and they were on-time and efficient.

We went to take the Ferry to Mackinaw Island. It was a cool day. We started up top but shortly into the trip we went below. On the way back we stay up top so we could see the lighthouses on the way back.
I would use them again.

I did the one that goes under the bridge, which I recommend if it’s your first time. I felt safe. Social distancing was marked. Staff at ticket sales were friendly and helpful

They really have it all together. Everything runs like a well oiled clock. They take your luggage and you don't see it again until you get to the island. The ride is about 20 minutes long. You buy a round trip ticket and then you just go to the dock when you are ready to leave the island. Simple and quick. ( Make sure you put your ID on your suitcase)

Quality experience. They have the process down and although dealing with tourists is probably challenging at times, the staff seems to enjoy their job. My only concern is all the plastic they use to wrap luggage carts. Please tell me that you recycle that plastic!

My only complaint would be leaving the door open and our seats were so windy and we got wet. Not sure for the reason to leave it open. Otherwise it was great.

Fun, friendly and clean! Crew was friendly and kept the lines moving along. Would recommend to anyone!

Free day parking if taking the ferry. Clean bathrooms. Large boats with comfortable seats. Boats move at a good speed. The Mackinaw City port is much busier than the St Ignace port. Leaving the island round 3 our boat to St. Ignace was less than half full. I don’t know if the Mackinaw City ferry was able to fit all the people in line. As we were pulling out, their boat looked like it was getting pretty full and there was still a long line of people on the dock.

We took a morning ride under the bridge and then onto the Island. It was smooth and delightful. The crew was attentive and experienced. We bought the tickets online and checked in using our phones. We had a great time!

This ferry company apparently has exclusivity to access the superb Mackinac Island from Saint Ignace.
The crossing, which lasts 20 minutes, allows return trips every half hour.
From there to charging 78 dollars for the return trip for 2 we are at the limit of “racketeering”!
However, we will appreciate the arrival on the island with in particular the view of the legendary Grand Hotel with its immense terrace... which has received many celebrities and in particular several presidents of the United States... and also Putin... the mistake is human!

Be prepared to wait in line around the block for at least 1.5 hours to board. Only 1 ferry running during our visit this week. It is not like our previous visit. Wish we would of considered star ferry or another activity.

We caught one of the first boats in the morning so we would get to go under the bridge instead of directly to the island. What a treat! We parked in their shuttle lot and a shuttle came within 10 minutes. It's a short ride to the dock. I had bought my tickets online so we were ushered to the line to just scan our tickets and get on. The only issue I had was when we approached the woman who was scanning the tickets she said "you've got 30 seconds to catch this boat so get moving". With that, my two teenagers started hustling down the ramp while the woman scanned my phone. It didn't scan the first time and the woman screamed at the teens "GET BACK HERE NOW". With that, the phone scanned and off we went. She really shouldn't have told them to hustle without scanning the phone first. The kids felt bad but it really wasn't their fault and they certainly shouldn't have been yelled at like that. However, the ride was great, the staff on the boat going and coming were great and I'd definitely go with them on our next trip!! BTW...the shuttle was right there as we got off the boat to take us back to our car. Super smooth process using their shuttle!

Double the price with controlling employees. Just went to Mackinac Island for a family vacation. I’ve stayed away from Shepler’s because they were the only ferry company that charged for over night parking. Now that one company owns everything, it’s $20 a night for every night’s parking. And I looked, they have every parking lot tied up. Then almost every employee I had dealings with treat you like you’re a child. Bossy and condescending. Other two companies were friendly and relaxed. Don’t know what makes them so uptight.
Finally the dock set up’s are a mess with people walking through traffic, the lines to get on the boat are a back and forth mess to get though with bikes and bike trailers.
I would definitely avoid them if I could.

Good experience with Shepler's. We walked there from our hotel and they were quick to help us out and collect our luggage. We loved the option to go out and see the Mackinac Bridge on our way to the island. Price is pretty comparable to Mackinac Island Ferry/Starline, but Shepler's had some combo tickets (adults+kids) that saved us a little and influenced our decision to use them.
We were a little confused with where to take our luggage when we were leaving the island, not sure what we should have done differently to make it less confusing, but overall our experience was just fine.

We purchased our tickets online, which saved a few dollars and made for an easy process. I was amazed at how many people comfortably fit on the ferry—don’t be dissuaded if the line seems really long. Easy and efficient boarding process. They sell a historical booklet with a map of the island for $2 cash on your way over to the island. I bought it so I wouldn’t have to battle crowds at the visitor center when we arrived.

DO not purchase any additional tickets from this company. Only use it for the ferry. We purchased tickets for the fort and a carriage tour. We didn’t know that the tours by carriage ceased at 5:00 and we were still at the fort. Over $200.00 not refunded because they have a no refund policy. Terrible policy. You pay in advance and if it closes before you can get there too bad for you

Purchased tickets online, a discount for 2 adults & 1 Child, had to purchase an additional ticket for our other child, but still saved. Obtained a QR code for entrance, quick & easy. Ferry boarded quickly, and the trip was fast. On return, needed to wait about 30 minutes due to crowd. Free day parking with shuttle to/from the dock.

Friendly patient staff. We had bikes. They tagged all our luggage and cooler no charge for luggage or cooler. There was no rush to get everything out of our truck take our time. Our bikes needed to be assembled like the seats and baskets. Our bikes we walked in line then handed to the attendant. Once, we got to the islands, we got off the boat as the bikes were unloaded could claim yours. We needed to pick up our baggage could do that in 2 trips if needed.
We went to check into our hotel. A surprise to us, we gave our stubs to the hotel who picked up our luggage took directly to our room. A nice calm trip over to the island. Overall, a great experience. We parked on St Ignace side less congested than Mackinaw city. Would highly recommend Sheplers. Please note, we have in the past used them but always a day trip.

A very well run system of transportation to and from Mackinac Island. Even if you are staying on the island, your luggage is well cared for and delivered directly to your hotel.

There are two ferries operating to Mackinac Island; both are excellent. Shepler's charges you $30 for overnight parking; Mackinac Island Ferry service (the Star Line) offers free overnight parking. It is a no-brainer which ferry to use, i.e. Mackinac Island Ferry Service!

This was a very well organized and efficient operation. The ferries do well operating on schedule. Be prepared to stand in line for a while to board.

This ferry is a well-oiled machine. The quickly board and disembark large numbers of people. The employees work hard and their customer service skills are excellent!

I would highly recommend this company for going to and from Mackinac island. Friendly, clean, efficient and on time! The boats were spotless

We were taking a vacation to Mackinac Island and decided to use Shepler's Ferry to get there. As soon as we pulled in the parking lot, we were greeted by a friendly employee and directed where to go. Once we parked, another employee tagged our luggage and directed us where to go to get parking pass. It was easy and flawless. The boat ride was very smooth. I usually get a little sea sick and queasy stomach from boats, but this ride was quick and so smooth. No issues with the ride. We took the early boat which takes you under the Mackinac Bridge and its a must see. Very cool experience. It only takes a few extra minutes and then goes directly to the island. I would highly recommend Shepler's Ferry when going to the island. If you can, buy your tickets online, it saves you a few dollars and saves you a lot of time. If you are staying overnite, you just park a few blocks away and a shuttle takes you right back to dock. Great experience! Great employees!

This was so easy. Parking for the day and it was close and safe. The staff were SO FRIENDLY! The ride was educational and fun.

We decided to use Schelper’s to ferry to the island. And we wanted to take the cruise under the bridge. I would definitely recommend doing that. You learn about the history of the bridge and you get to see it from below. Which is pretty neat. The staff was great and friendly. Just make sure if you are doing the day trip to park in the day lot

The ferry is clean and safe. Employees are always friendly and helpful. The captain was knowledgeable about the area with nice details given about the Mackinaw bridge.

Shepler’s has got it down. So smooth and professional. Bought our tickets online, walked up and showed the QR code on my phone, and got onto the ferry. Safe trip. I felt like they really know what they are doing. Employees were all friendly as well.

Pricing right. Schedule great- boat leaves every fifteen minutes from 9:00 am. - 10:00 pm. Clean. Staff friendly and accommodating.

Ferry ride was on time! Staff was nice. Took extra care in placing bikes on ferry. Liked the brief tour under bridge. Will take again in future.

The ride was fast and informative at the same time. Make sure to catch one of the ferries that take you under the bridge

Shepplers is the main way to reach Mackinaw Island. The trip is about 15 minutes and pleasant if the Lake is fairly calm. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. You can buy ticket’s online before you arrive. They have several (paid) parking options. If you are staying on the island they will make sure your bags get to the hotel. Dogs are allowed. You can also take your bike. The ride around the island is lovely.

Loved that you can park in a lot and have them shuttle you to the Ferry. We parked in Lot A and it was an easy drive from our hotel.

Outstanding service and a fun and fast ride to the island. Good price for round trip tickets. The ride was very comfortable as were the seats. Long lines but what do you expect!

Shepler’s did an amazing job of getting my husband and I to the island and back! The service through Shepler’s was top rate. The employees were all friendly and helpful. My husband uses a mobility scooter and there were no issues getting it to and from the island. They offer a lower priced parking lot and provide free shuttle service to and from that lot. Huge shout out to Shepler’s for helping make our trip as stress free as possible!!

Great crew! Took the 9:30 a.m. ferry to Mackinac Island. This particular departure goes under the Mackinac Bridge which was interesting to see and hear some facts. Ferries are prompt and on time.

The people working on the ferries we took definitely like their jobs. They were very friendly. They are really dog friendly, one guy stopped by at the start and end of the trip to pet my pups.

They gave my luggage to someone else on my actual 40th birthday and basically blamed it on the other person. I was 4 hours from home on my birthday trip with no clothes and the staff didn’t care. They actually said sorry for the minor inconvenience and sent us away. Luckily we were able to contact the other person who was the sweetest lady of all time who’s husband had Parkinson’s and they trusted that the ferry had loaded the correct luggage into their car. I had been thrown from a horse earlier in the day on the island so all I had was the dirty clothes I was wearing and there were no stores anywhere close. Be careful trusting your luggage to this ferry because they don’t really seem to care. We had to make our own arrangements to get my bag which included an hour drive from home to pick it up from the town this lady lived. This was far from a minor inconvenience.

They get you to Mackinac Island quickly and professionally. The rides to remote parking are nice and they handle crowds very well. Two stars because they cancelled the Lighthouse Cruise last minute the week I went there.

I recommend if you get water sickness you sit on the top, but other then that very informative and great service.

Their service was superior. The entire staff (parking attendant, ticket salesperson, boarding personnel, ships staff, etc.) were very professional, courteous and extremely helpful. As a handicapped individual, they were very caring when entering and exiting the ship as well as during the 16 minute trip to the island The round trip is well worth the price.

We got in line early morning and waited only a few minutes to board the next ferry. We had purchased tickets online and they just scanned the code. It was a cool morning so we rode inside. Our local inn keeper had advised us to sit on the left side for a view of the Grand Hotel as we approached Mackinac Island. Disembarking was quick and orderly. On the return trip we rode on top which was fun!

I was very concerned about the whole ferry experience - where do I park? will there be seats left? what about luggage? etc.
I am here to tell you - DO NOT WORRY! Everything is super easy.
First, the Google maps directions provided by the Shepler's Ferry website get you right to the front entrance, where a "cast member" asks you about your plans (day trip or overnight).
In the archway, push a button to get a ticket.
Another cast member waves you into the ample unloading area, past the ticketing pavilion.
In the unloading area, another helpful "cast member" collects your bags, if you want them delivered directly to your room in the hotel (definitely recommended - car-to-door delivery both ways, can't be more convenient.)
Head over to the ticketing pavilion to get your ferry tickets, pay for the bag transport, and arrange for parking. For overnight parking, I chose the $30 "premium" option because the parking lot is right there, in the back of the pavilion.
Don't worry about running out of seats on the ferry. They schedule the ferries more often when they expect more people; they've been doing this for decades, and have gotten it down pat.
There are two levels on the ferry: upper deck, great for clear and warm weather (some seats get wet from the spray), and lower deck, which is covered and air-conditioned. If you must take pictures of the bridge and the island, I suggest the left side on top.
Walking off the island dock puts you right on the main street! Enjoy!

We had a great experience with shepler’s. We took it one day from mackinaw to Mackinac and the next day from st Ignace to Mackinac island. We had our doodle with us and she was free as well as day parking. Staff was friendly. Great experience!

Know what tickets you need to purchase before you go. Or better yet, purchase online! The young lady at the ticket booth was not very helpful and seemed irritated the more questions I asked. I did purchase the ferry ticket and the horse/buggy tour there at the gate. The ferry ride was Awesome. No Complaints, the rest of the crew was very polite and welcoming

There are a couple of ferries that take passengers to Mackinaw Island. This was an average ferry ride! However, everyone was kind and friendly. The shuttle driver seemed particularly passionate about the company and provided some back story on the company. The ferry we took went around the Mackinaw suspension bridge and I learned a little bit of history too! If I go back, I will definitely choose this ferry line.

We had a fantastic experience with Shepler's Ferry. All staff members were helpful and patient. The boats and facilities were all sparkling clean and comfortable. If parking overnight, consider taking the ferry from St. Ignace instead of Mackinac City - the parking is right by the dock and it is super easy and fast to get on the boat.

We happened to get the mighty max ride. That goes under the bridge was amazing. Everything is ran so smooth, for tickets entering and exiting the boats

Stood in line for more than two hours waiting to board a boat. Then was stranded after returning and had to walk a half mile back to my car. Totally ridiculous. I’ll be riding Starline from now on.

Their shuttle picked us up at the hotel. Driver gave us good places to go in town and was exceptionally nice. Appreciated not having to drive to go to the island

A ferry ride to Mackinac Island is the only way to visit the island, other than by small charter flight. Our tour group choose Shelper’s. The staff was friendly. This is a ferry ride to the island. No frills, once seated you stay there. They take luggage and bicycles too.

These folks made it very easy to unload luggage, park our car, and provide transportation to and from Mackinac Island. They've all been to the rodeo before, lol.

Sheplers got us to Mackinac quickly despite rough waves on the lake. The ferry is clean and prompt. However, I grew tired of the employees scolding me in an abrasive way for every possible thing I did wrong. I went to the wrong tent for luggage, I pulled into my spot too quickly, we didn’t get our ticket out quickly enough. Blah blah why don’t you yell at me for a few other things while you’re at it? And all this for a company we spent over $250 with between tickets for two and parking.

I purchased four round-trip tickets from Mackinaw city to the island. One was for my disabled wife, who really wanted to take one final trip to Mackinac Island. On the day of departure the sun was extremely hot for her and she wasn’t feeling up to the ride . I spoke to three different representatives of sheplers to ask if I could get a refund for one of the fares. All three told me yes and to go to the main terminal to get a sheet of paper explaining how the process works. I’ve sent sent two emails to sheplers with their promise of getting back to me within three or four business days so far I have not received a refund. I am extremely disappointed with their customer service. Based on this next time I travel to the island, and I also recommend others do this use the Star Line!

Easy to buy tickets. Friendly people. Seemed very well organized. Boats were every 30 minutes until about 10:30 pm with more frequent departures in the middle of the day. Passage was about 15 minutes. Stay down below if you don’t want your hair blown all over.

Visited Mackinac City on a Sunday morning. The travel there (7:30 am) ferry was fast, uneventful. The crew was very friendly and efficient. They spoke of ‘keeping distant’ to avoid spread of Covid19. On the way back, however it was a completely different story. Long lines and packed ferry. The younger female crew member stood at the front and pretended to be the expert on sea sickness and asked if everyone was ok to the point of people getting aggravated. She tried to be funny but came across as annoying. They certainly could care less about Covid19. If they did, they would not have filled the ships to capacity.

Highly recommend going out of St. Ignance. Easy parking. Easy on and off the ferry. The staff was outstanding! The ride was smooth and easy. We did the Mighty Mac departure and got to go under the bridge. That was a unique experience. Coming back from the island there was no line and we walked right on.

Employees were friendly and gave great recommendations for first time visitors.
Restrooms available at waiting area.
Free daily parking.
Parking area at St. Ignace was very spacious for our travel trailer.

Great trip and nice info about the Bridge. Only thing I would have liked was if my husband could have been seated sooner as he is disabled. Crew was very pleasant.

Took the ferry back and forth from the mainland and it was a pleasant ride. Nice to see the bridge from the middle of the lake. Staff all pleasant and helpful. Nice hearing the history of Miss Margie.

(So we haven’t been on the star line for 5 years (pandemic .border etc.)we thought we would park there it was FREE before..now it’s $20.00….but you can park across the street and walk back..or you could park on the paved area and then was directed to a non paved area..ah no..took the car back to the motel, parked and walked back..the tariff is away up $31.00 usd..each..then we thought we were getting the rooster tail again NO..ended up on a catamaran, which the only saving grace was that that trip went under the bridge. On the way back we had a trainee captain

Our family of 6 the first week of June used the ticket option that can only be bought at the ticket office. It’s for 2 round trip but can be used a few days apart. This worked great for our trip plans. Liked the little tour under the bridge in the morning. Rode inside in the morning (54*) and up top in the early evening (72*)

Great customer service. Clean ferry and leaves RIGHT on time!
However, the parking shuttle took WAY too long. My husband could have walked quicker. It literally took 20 min to get 4 blocks. On the way there, we had to get off the ferry because he was in the first lot to get picked up but still had to stop at 5 other lots. On the way home, he was going to walk but the shuttle was literally just about to pull away. STILL took 20 min for him to get back. It’s $15 if you park in the economy lots or $35 to park in the premium. Do yourself a favor and pay the extra $20!

Very efficient team and smooth service; very flexible parking and kind and professional staff. We’ve used them twice before and the ease and smoothness is very helpful

It is always fun to ride these clean, fast, comfortable boats to the island! Beautiful scenery all the way there and back! Love it!

Not accommodating enough for wheelchair users. Their Shuttles are too small for my wheelchair. I had to buy my handicap parking near the docs. It was $35. I had to sit in the back of the boat with the luggage because the boat had stairs. I shouldn't have had to pay $35 to park. They need to provide free parking for wheelchair users near the docs.

By your tickets early and enjoy this awesome ride thru lake Huron and headed its way to Mackinac Island. Its worth every penny of it. Great sites and sounds to see along the voyage.

The ferry is very accommodating to pets. Smooth operation with parking and boarding as well as disembarking. Easy getting our bags to and from the resort. Very friend staff! Would definitely use them again.
Visited in June so wasn’t too crowded or hot which was nice. As far as visiting the island with a pet, I don’t think I would take mine again. The number of places to eat with a pet is very limited and conflicting information as to where they can and cannot go. I would label the island pet tolerate.

This was an excellent trip to and from Mackinac Island. Going there, we sat on the top deck and going back to Mackinaw City, we sat on the lower deck. We went under the bridge. Very efficient in boarding and expensive, $78.28 for two people round trip.
Good schedule
The ferry was quick and easy. Enjoyed the schedule it made it easy to get there and back. I feel like it could have been a little cheaper but overall good experience.
