Relaxing.

By Alex Tarifa |

Nice contact with Central Florida's nature environment. Pleasant area and easy to access. You can use or own bicycle or rent one at the park.

A little piece of Old Florida nature

By srtidd |

Located on US 192 in Kissimmee amid the gift shops, motels, and cheap restaurants, Shingle Creek offers a visitor's center and hiking trails and splendid wtland scenery. You can rent kayaks and there is a nice bike path. Great place to get away from the theme park madness right down the road from them.

No bike riding

By Kevin S |

Visted park feb 17th 2022 No bike riding allowed in park ....website has not been updated was just a waisted of time

Afternoon walk

By Abby M |

Such a lovely, easy walk on boardwalks and trail. Great place for a picnic. Nice bathroom over at the kayak rental.

One of our favorite trails

By klutzWestBend |

We are leaving after 11 days in the area and this was last on our list, but we would rank it as one of our favorites. Lots of boardwalk and not way out of the way. Good history and labeling of trees, etc. It does come up quickly. Do watch for entry right after marker 15.

Small & Peaceful

By Rebeski |

Ubered here from my resort to get a breath of fresh air. I was expecting more hiking-esque features, but it was mostly a boardwalk with a trail. It was nice, but pretty short. A nice hidden gem, though. I would've loved kayaking, but didn't have time, but walking around was peaceful & relaxing. I'm not sure what area of Orlando this was in, but I felt totally safe as long as I was inside the park. I would recommend it if you need a break from all the touristy things happening in Orlando.

Awesome spot right in the center of a busy area

By mesjournees |

Just blissful to walk around. The pioneer house is small but interesting. This made for a great break in the middle of things. Really wonderful--highly recommend

Unsafe for us

By dej |

Unfortunately the homeless have moved into this park. We were on our bikes and came upon sleeping bags and picnic tables taken over by the homeless. We felt unsafe. Very disappointed as we drove 2 hours to go biking

When you need a bit of piece and quiet

By DavidA689 |

We were needing to get away from Orlando's hustle and bustle. This was just the ticket. 2 hours paddling a kayak down a beautifuly lazy Creek. Wonderful scenery and turtles abound. Bird life is amazing. Allegedly there are alligators but we didn't see any. Quite pleased really.

Brilliant outdoor adventure

By J HS |

Get back to nature at Shingle Creek. Walk through the beautiful scenary or hire a canoe to see the amazing area. Peace and tranquility. Watch the local wildlife including squirrels and birds and maybe an aligator or two of your lucky. You can also hire a bike if you're feeling energetic.

KAYAKING - Best Thing We Did in Orlando!!!!!

By Chip1031 |

This was the best thing we did while in Orlando for a week for a conference!!! Very quiet, relaxing and serene!! Easy paddling even if you have not done it before. A quiet oasis in the middle of all the hustle of Orlando area.

Not expensive....only $34 for the 2 of us for 2 hours!!

Scenery is beautiful. Lots of wildlife, even saw 3 otters!!!!

If you only have an hour or two, paddle the south portion of the creek.

Great non Disney experience

By TJHar |

Everybody really enjoyed their 2 hour kayaking adventure. Those that didn't get on the water enjoyed a short hike and visited the welcome centre across the road (subway) providing info on early Florida ++. Well worth a visit and free!

Quiet area to walk around

By cfuller603 |

The walking biking trail is only .6 mile so it's a nice stroll in the area. No nature signs but the pathway is paved so it's easy to walk. Lots of parking at the Pioneer Village.

Simply amazing!

By Adam P |

I was in Orlando for a week and ended up going for kayaking in Shingle Creek twice during that period. It is stunning! the second time had also chance to have close encounter with alligator (not too close though - I'm still in one piece ;) ). Great place and staff at the kayaking center also very nice

Unbelievable location

By SnowyOwl710 |

I never would have guessed that this nature gem was right off of 192 at marker 15! If you want to see real Florida nature, with no crowds, visit Shingle creek. We parked, and first walked south to Bass head and back (2 miles round trip). This was partially a boardwalk and partly paved - lots of shade. Then we walked north toward Pioneer village, to the 1st pond (2 miles round trip) on all paved bike path, mix of sun & shade. We tallied 18 species of birds in mid afternoon (3-5pm) including Barred Owl (heard), and Swallow tailed Kite. Saw red bellied turtle, and various plants.

A good little park

By CoreyNEF |

It's a good park for a short visit. I wouldn't say that it is the most exciting park that I have ever been too, but its worth a visit if you are near by or just looking to do something for an hour.

Worth A Look

By Anlaby-Traveller |

This is quiet spot adjacent to mile marker 15 on the 192, you can rent a Kayak if that's your thing. Or alternatively you can take a lazy stroll through the dense and varied woods on the wooden Boardwalk which lifts you above the swampy areas as you progress. I think an earlier start or a dusk visit would be more rewarding to spot the local wildlife - we did see two very large Owls while we were there, still not certain of the species.

An oasis of wilderness within earshot of the 192

By turkeyrun23 |

Well worth a visit, close to civilisation yet fells very remote. This was our last activity prior to heading back to the airport and it was very conveniently located a few minutes away from Old Town. There is a boardwalk which takes you through the swampy areas with very tall cypresses and palms.

Great place to see flowers and turtles and have a pic nic.

By travlynme |

This was a short drive from our hotel near Old Town. On our last day we chose this as one of our activities and it was a very pleasant way to unwind. After days of walking on concrete at the parks it was nice to walk on trails and boardwalks. The views are pretty and it was fun to watch the kayakers from the bridge. We saw some birds including a hawk and a lovely large turtle swimming towards the kayakers as if he wanted to check them out. Lots of great photo ops. Free parking too.

Best trip yet!

By Sherry E |

We live in the area and decided to take our canoe and 3 kayaks with friends. The rapids were crazy. You wouldn't have thought we were in Florida. Everything isn't quite clear all the way through to Marsh landing but we did make it! I love this creek.

A GREAT PARK IN THE MIDDLE OF KISSIMMEE

By foss4NorthBay |

Shingle Creek Regional Park is located right in the middle of a very busy area of Kissimmee, but you'd never know it. Once you enter the park, it's as if you're miles away from civilization. Breathtaking views and lots of wildlife. We rented a canoe for 2 hours and paddled the creek; even saw an alligator lounging by the shore as we paddled by. It was very relaxing and a great way to get away from all the hussle and bussle of the main strip.

Shingle Creek

By twinkle1o1 |

Went to see the Pioneer village and then had a enjoyable walk around the park.
Peaceful and enjoyed a good walk around the park ,lake and river .
Watched alligator and saw a ton of squirrels.
Would definitely go back and rent a kayak ,so easy to find and so near to
Kissimmee.

Educational

By Patricia B |

It was a very beautiful setting for hiking, canoe,or kayak rentals. There were also places to fish. We weren't aware of this so the next time we will bring our fishing rods.

An Oasis

By mimi1125427 |

Nestled in the middle of urban sprawl on a very busy road, our GPS let us down and we drove right by the entrance on the first try. After a couple of false starts, we did find the entrance which was actually well marked, but we had missed it because of the busyness of the cars and trucks around us. We chose to walk around the park and found it to be very refreshing. It is amazing that you can be so close to busy artery and find such peace and beauty. We were there for about an hour and were glad we made the effort. It really is a beauty!

Nice nature trails

By Barb B |

Beautiful. Hard to believe that the Bass Rd trailhead and the trail way to the Shingle Creek homestead are just feet away from the 192 Irlo Bronson highway. I found it very relaxing and excellent for dog walking

Great place to get away

By Cleora P |

Shingle Park, located right of US 192 in Kissimmee, provides nice, easy trails through quite woods. You can also rent canoe or kayaks for an easy paddle on Shingle Creek. A great place to get away from the hub-bub of Kissimmee and Disney.

Simply brilliant.

By Holly G |

We had a fantastic time kayaking at Shingle Creek. Beautiful surroundings, very peaceful and a great guide!
Throughly recommend :-)

Stunning Creek

By gretelschubert |

Absolutely stunning waterway, would like to visit again. Creek is lined with lots of cypress trees with moss hanging, great area to kayak on

Kayaking

By kitca |

2 hours of heaven. So beautiful. We went downstream first, and it was just gorgeous and a little tricky in a tandem in the current and narrows. But upcreek was not as picturesque or fun.

Best time ever

By Victoria-Ace |

they always have the right equipment and it always feels like we are the only one there and we are not in our city; like we are miles away and thats always good,

Good location for a peaceful stroll

By lbellfoy |

Shingle Creek Regional Park is a beautiful area to stroll around. It would be beneficial, however, if distance markers were placed along the north side trail. Also, small map handouts of the trail would certainly be helpful.

A peaceful spot

By dsimmer |

This park was just upgraded by the city recently and one their are things you can do here now include taking a nice walk. Park looks very y nice.

Relaxing Getaway

By Allister G |

We added this as a quiet way to relax during our Disney parks trip and couldn't have been more happy with our choice. It was a great way to see a different side of the Orlando area and recharge our batteries. It wasn't far from the parks, we saw lots of wildlife and the staff was friendly and helpful.

A hidden gem.... don't miss out

By FrankVito |

Hidden away on the bustling 192 (amongst the fast food outlets, advertising boards for loans & helicopter rides, and some very dubious motels), is this little gem. A lot of time & money has clearly been invested here to preserve just a little of the original Florida in this area. There are picnic areas and an impressive trail of boardwalks/footpaths into the swampy woodland - AND it's free access & parking. Kayak hire is also available and rates seem very reasonable. The museum just across the highway is also well worth a visit - don't miss this either.

A unique experience

By Shirley Anne Canales |

Was my first experience on a Kayak, they explained us how to handle the oars, how to stop, and to handle it. It was fun, really we enjoyed it. The park is beautiful, you're in touch with nature. They were two hours of relaxation, fun and would repeat. The employee who greeted us on September 14, around 1pm, was very friendly, attentive and helpful, thanks for your service in my B-day day.

An oasis in the middle of town

By Sonya D |

Beautiful natural Florida. Nestled in the middle of a busy area once you pull off the highway you are surrounded by the sounds of nature. Huge trees hanging with moss and native air plants. Canoe, Kayak rentals a must do. Explore Shingle Creek the headwaters of the Everglades. Lot's of scenic beauty, an easy paddle and wildlife abounds.Picnic areas, a boardwalk through the wetlands, several short trail hikes. Next door is a historic homesite with interpretive signs

nice kayak ride

By Andrew W |

Got a coupon for an hour kayak rental. What a peaceful and serene ride. You'd never guess it while driving down the busy road to the park, but once down the river, it's like a different world. Didn't see any gators (thankfully) but some big turtles and waterfowl. They also rent canoes and SUPs.

Very well maintained

By KarenM1_10 |

We stayed in the Kissimmee area for an extended stay and frequently biked at this park. The bike path is paved, and the main path is approximately 3-4 miles long (one-way). The path is very well maintained and flat (no hills here). You can also rent kayak’s and visit Pioneer Village and the Homestead. I would recommend this area for biking. We did rent kayak’s and they do get busy so make sure you make reservations in advance especially if you come on a weekend.

Doing our Part

By gdotson1001 |

Recently our team from SEA LIFE Orlando Aquarium visited Shingle Creek to clean up the water ways. This is a beautiful park, but just like any public space, it is common to find trash left behind by those visitors who don’t understand the importance of cleaning up after themselves. Shingle Creek is the headwaters of the Everglades so it is vital to keep this area free of debris. Visitors can find some beautiful views along with natural Florida wildlife. I think this is a great place to visit to experience Florida at its Finest!

Old Florida Free

By Raymond573 |

Located off Rt 193 East is a somewhat hidden State Park memorializing the early settlers to the area including exhibits of the wood cutting trade and historic cabins. There is also a walking trail and for a fee, you can rent a kayak and paddle down the stream. It's a scenic area as the vegetation is uncut and lost of moss hanging from the trees. Definitely worth a 1/2 hour visit. And free

Thoroughly enjoyable experience!

By Richard H |

We hired kayaks for a two hour jaunt along the creek. You see all sort of wildlife including crocodiles which you can get pretty close to. We got so close to one that it flicked it's tail at us and frightened the you know what out of us! On thing that really stuck out for us was that Creek is just off a major highway and you must be in the middle of a concrete jungle but it was so peaceful and tranquil. The staff at the Centre were friendly and helpful. Well worth a visit!

Nice open biking and walking area: Very hot on sunny days.

By Cynthia W |

Small playground, walking and hiking trail. Parking for about 40 cars. Outdoor porta-potty. For a small fee you can enter the old buildings they have assembled. Parking is free. A nice green, out door area to spend some time with the family.

very nice place

By chaimgluck61 |

very nice place they have kayak boats for very good prices and the trail is quite so it very good to take a good walk ..

Not all of that

By Nancy L |

Not all of that. Very hot paths of nothing really. Hardly any birds, no other wildlife. Maybe for a bike ride. Looking for a nice walk - go somewhere else.

Photoshoot along Shingle Creek

By lolalolita9343 |

Spent some time along Shingle Creek which I discovered was in my own backyard - literally! This is headwaters of the Everglades. It truly is REAL Florida and the scenery is beautiful. The Regional Park also has kayaks and other floating devices that enable you to explore the creek and take in the beautiful trees and palms. There is also some historical aspects here where you can see how the people lived here in the 30's and 40's. And it's free!

pretty

By Nina Queen Hyena |

very pretty....WEAR SUNSCREEN..DONT WALK BAREFOOT DONT TOUCH or go in WATER
as long as you remember at all times that Florida is trying to kill you, go enjoy the scenery

Fun and educational

By Tony |

We had a 2-hour guided tour and our guide, Josh, was very good. He was very professional, personable, and informative. We had a lot of fun paddling up and down the creek. I would definitely recommend it and do it again.

Great experience

By David A |

Looking for something a little different to do and we discovered Shingle Creek. Took a 2 person kayak out for a 2 hour excursion down the river. The attendant at the rental place was very friendly. He gave us brief overview of the area and set us up with our equipment. Would definitely recommend!!

amazing place

By alfie50 |

Loved it here, found this place on an early morning walk, and returned every morning.
I also hired a Kayak (28 dollars for two hours) which was an amazing two hours. Seconds after setting off it was like I was transported away from all the hussle and bussel and commercialisation of Kissimmee to a different world, peaceful and tranquil. I quietly paddled along the creek and was rewarded with several sightings of alligators, one a big one of about six foot who was basking in the sun on the bank who then entered the water and swam across the creek in front of me. I saw a further two small alligators sat on the bank in the trees. Lots of turtles and birdlife and beautiful scenery. A great way to get away from it all in kissimmee ang get a feel for florida away from all the otner commercial activities.

Fun place!

By Barbara H |

I really enjoyed the kayaking at The Paddling Center and at The Docks. Both locations are part of the Shingle Creek Regional Park. Facilities were clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. Highly recommend as a break from Theme parks!

A stroll thru nature, we chose to walk just under 5 miles.

By Ray K |

Nature everywhere Fish in the stream and birds in the trees. The path was easy to walk and smiles from those we encountered. Locals were enjoying bicycling and walkers were of every age.

Walking along

By Lucy R |

This is an amazing place quiet serene my friends from out of town want to just to walk around and not go shopping so this was a perfect place

Nice place to stop for a stretch and a hike

By Trippingalong2014 |

We needed a hike after a long drive and lunch. Could not hike far due to trail renovation, but the areas we could explore were nice, very clean, and the historical structures included interesting history. Plenty of space for children to get out and run without getting into trouble.
Wish it wasn't off season because we would have loved to rent a kayak and float on the pretty creek.

FAntastic Place

By Sue T |

What a hidden gem. Went for a bike ride and ended up kayaking. such a beautiful place. Can't wait to go back on Thursday.

Friendly staff, quality equipment and a real 'Jurassic Park' experience!

By RDCK68 |

Hired a canoe with my 15 & 12 year olds and headed off down Shingle Creek. The peace and quiet was immediate and astonishing considering where we started from. It really felt like we had gone back in time and despite a few steering issues in our boat we had a fantastic time and will be back.

One of the best things to do - highly recommended

By sillybillyiow |

Firstly there is a review of Ruba Park which is not Shingle Creek so ignore in context of this place and no idea why it is even on here? We stayed near to this and drove past it and we did not know what it was when we drove in.

It is an absolute oasis in the midst of such a built up and man made place. We hired a couple of twin seated kayaks and spent a really lovely couple of hours paddling through the Everglades. We saw many lovely birds and several turtles sunbathing on logs and we saw a lone alligator also basking in the sun.

It all made such a lovely change of scenery and pace from the various parks and other more frenetic days. It made you realise what central Florida was like before the builders moved in!

The guy at the place couldn't have been more helpful and I'd do one of the eco-tours if I went there again as like to learn a little more about the things I saw.

If you're on Orlando/Kissimmee area PLEASE do visit here - you will have one of the best couple of hours of your holiday I promise

Fantastic Bike Trail

By Nanalee3 |

We had a hard time finding this bike trail. It is off Hwy. 192 by Mile Marker 15. This bike trail is one of the best we have ridden on. Surface is either new concrete or blacktop. The trail is as wide as a street with many different loops. We rode by wooded area, ponds, development areas. It was a wide mix of areas but so peaceful and a nice contrast to the noisy, busyness of the rest of Kissimmee. We wish we had found this earlier in our stay. Don't miss it. You will also see the pioneer homes and a pioneer village. Such a gem!

Road Trip Roadside Attraction

By Cosmicroadsidemystic |

This was the first place my friend and I went to on a road trip to Kissimmee, FL. The Pioneer Village consists of a permanent collection of authentic structures which once upon a time stood in different areas of Osceola County. The Pioneer Village demonstrates how life was once lived before our modern times. We came here on May 26,2017. Admission was free on that day. Usually, it is $7 for adults. There was free admission for history month in May - Monday to Friday - 10AM to 12 PM.

It wasn't the most exciting place to go but it gave me a sense of peacefulness. Going to the Pioneer Village at Shingles Creek brings a sense of nostalgia to me. Looking at the furnishings and homes here and the sounds of chickens remind me of where I vacationed and lived at (The Cadmen Complex home) in a third world country when I was four. The village is well maintained and very clean. My friend and I were the only ones there. We saw builders constructing a small church at the heart of the village. It was my favorite building along with the Seminole homes, the chickees. We walked around the village stopping at each building and landmark. You could not walk inside the buildings unfortunately. So it was mostly peeking through a window or open door and gazing. Before we left, we left a donation and browsed quickly through the gift shop. I wanted to buy a postcard but they had none. 4 Stars because it was free , well kept, nostalgic, and peaceful.

Lovely place to Go for a walk

By RogueTrippers |

Date of Visit Wednesday. December 12, 2018

We rented a house around the corner from this park. We enjoyed several walks through this park with the dogs.
it is a beautiful place to visit, with great trails, and scenery.

Take some time to visit this park in your vacation to Central Florida.

Breathtaking / Relaxing

By Busch2 |

What a beautiful relaxing place among all the typical hustle and bustle of the Orlando / Kissimmee action. . The light reflecting off the waters highlighted with the larger cypress trees along the water was simply breathtaking, What a great way to spend an hour or two or three!

We were fortunate enough to get an air-boat ride down the creek to the lake. i highly recommend that if you get the chance!

A little bit of nature in Orlando

By George V |

Nice place to visit if you need a break from all the commercialism. You can bring your own kayak or rent one. There are some old settler's cabins and historical information. Nice way to relax for a while.

Great urban hike

By Martin S |

Recently completed urban hiking trail, the longest portion is 1.6 miles running from the pioneer village to the county welcome station and museum. Runs nearby Shingle Creek.

Good times

By DoreenV |

My husband and I were looking for something different to do. Visiting the park and raking a tandem kayak ride was perfect. Great staff and fun times. We even saw a few gators. Highly recommend.

Good for a peaceful stroll

By tina32Devon |

After going to the visitors centre this is a good spot for a peaceful walk and good to keep an eye open for wildlife.

Haven from The Tourism Cesspool

By jcurran94 |

Shingle Creek Park could easily be missed, nestled between chains of enormous fast food restaurants and shops hawking off-brand Disney and Apple goods to tourists. In fact, I did drive past it and have to double back (a tip - drive slowly in the right lane when approaching from the east; the driveway to enter the park is very small and abrupt).
The park is physically relieving to spend time in, after driving down the Kissimmee strip. There are historic mill buildings, a quiet picnic area, and several miles of trail through sub-tropical forest on elevated wooden walkways and also on sand. Don't pass this place by without spending an hour or two.

Nice oasis in an urban setting

By cmyberns |

We were in the area for a family get together. We were looking for a place to be in nature instead of going to a theme park. We found this place on TripAdvisor and chose to rent kayaks and go on our own. We rented two kayaks for a couple of hours and went down the creek then paddled back up. Although we could hear the traffic in the distant background, it seemed as if we were in a jungle. Although we hoped to see alligators, we didn’t. We did see some birds and a lot of turtles! It was nice to see there still some nature left in this area.

Great Kayak Tour

By Greg D |

Thank you Bill for the excellent guided tour today of Shingle Creek. Our family had a wonderful time today and Bill did a great job showing us the Site and history of the creek.

A very enjoyable park

By Andrea B |

We did an unguided kayak tour of the park. We spent about 3.5 hours paddling through the creek to allow for time to absorb the sights and sounds of nature. We saw many turtles, Ibis, an Osprey, and Egrets. We love to kayak all types of waters and I believe this would be a great first time kayaking experience for those who have never been.

An Oasis from the Commercial Madness

By Bfordtraveller |

Shingle Creek Regional Park is an oasis away from all the commercial madness that is central Florida. A nice change of pace to the traffic and billboards. My son and I rented a double kayak for 3 hours and had a great time. The instructors were helpful and friendly and the park appeared to be well-kept. We saw one GIANT alligator (8 feet I am guessing) and several small ones, Great Blue herons, turtles galore, Giant egrets, even an ALBINO Squirrel. Definitely recommended for the tourist (or the local?) looking for something different.

Quiet escape

By lottylady |

Free. Pleasant walking different lengths of marked walks. Canoeing available. Wildlife concervation area

Awesome kayaking!!

By veroniq77 |

This place is just simply great for kayaking!
Perfect if you want to do something different to break up your excitement and visits to Disney world parks.
It is easy to find, you can rent kayaks on a spot as we did and just go and explore the Creek. It is beautiful and such a fun. We have seen number of tortoises and a river snake, but no gators.
We did the North part of the Creek and it was just brilliant.
Highly recommended.

Great Place

By galos593 |

If you like it riding canoe or kayak here is the perfect place right over SR 192/W Vine st . come here rent your ride or just enjoy walking into the nature with high walking ramp under the shade of the trees. good for the whole family.

So relaxing!!

By Natalie M |

If you are looking for a relaxing outdoor activity in Kissimmee, kayaking on Shingle creek is for you! The area is beautiful with other activities if you don’t want to kayak! Wanted to go back it was so good! I’ve never kayaked before but picked it up easily. We paid approx $63 for a tandem and a single kayak, no idea if that’s reasonable :)

Makes Paddling Up a Creek FUN

By Bill C |

I was fortunate enough to visit her and speed some time on the water . It was super relaxing and the views were gorgeous. If you are any were near Kissimmee visit here for history and a great time

quiet and peaceful paddle

By Steven J |

we turned up rented our kayaks off a very friendly and helpful women. (sorry i cant remember her name) we went down the river we were the only ones on it. it was so peaceful and luckily enough we saw plenty of wildlife. it was 2 hours very well spent.

Great spot so close to so much developed land

By Yavuz C |

I was not expecting much in this place lost in so much development nearby. The walks were ok on a hot humid July day, but the kayaking was easily our top rated activity in and around Kissimmee/ Orlando area.

Great little park on US 192.

By Tim1949 |

This is a lovely park with a historic past. You will see the settlers house's & enjoy a walk with nature. Main trail is easy walking & only about a mile. There's a recreation center with kayak rentals, guides & more.

This is great place......

By It's me, again. |

You can easily miss the entrance. it's just after the big Walmart on the 192.
It's well worth a visit and it's free.

Pretty and serene

By momabe |

Our family enjoyed our quiet visit to the Shingle Creek park. Beautiful stroll into a natural environment.

Peace and quiet

By Michael C |

Great place to get away for relaxing,, alone or with your family or special someone. Have a picnic, take a walk, kick back for some reading. Peaceful and quiet. Shingle Creek looks just like it should in the Everglades--this is the headwaters of the glades--the dark waters, Spanish moss hanging in the cypress trees, herons flying. Check it out when you want to escape from traffic noise (or anything else) for an hour or a day.

Great park

By John A Carter |

A great park for a walk or hike. The north side is hard packed rock. The south part of the park is not as well developed, trees overhang the trail provides great shade. I liked this side better. In any case it is a great park

Splendid

By Veena P |

An amazing place in the middle of the bustling city. We went there in Dec 2023 after a stressful Disney trip, did Canoeing and was super excited for the wilderness around the park. We coudln't wait to go back which we did in Dec 2024 to collect more memories and we absolutely loved the place for the second time.

Things to do: Canoeing for a reasonable price, a trail walk with family (with 2 small kids), picnic (as we packed our food.
People we met: An alligtor, otters, various birds, turtles, snake. What more can you ask for on a vacation?

The lady at the counter is very helpful and suggested us the places to visit with kids. I would give her a 5/5 rating for sharing the information generously.

Have a great visit everyone!

Ho Hum

By dave R |

Pity the layout of the pathways didn't follow the river as it's the only interesting part of the park. Not much to see, not much to do, unless you want to kayak. Saw virtually NO wildlife and and plenty of people like us wandering around wondering was there anything to see!!

Shingle Creek divided in two, choose wisely

By MissRainy |

The first time we chose the northern by Babb road, it was under construction, but not closed. All trails we tried were dead end. The one on the south of 192 is better, and the trails are also not loops, and very short. But there are kayaks, canoes, and a cabin to tour. The moved the pioneer village to the northern location, and are not done yet.

Nature and local history in the heart of Kissimmee

By Discover713204 |

This is a natural gem right off the beaten path in busy Kissimmee. We visited during the shoulder season so it wasn’t busy. The wooded trails are wide and great for walking and biking. The interpretive signage for the original homestead and wood shingle business were informative and interesting.

Kayak n fishing 🛶🎣🎣

By RYBERG75 |

Rented a kayak for the afternoon for the reasonable price of $50 for 4hrs.
The creek itself runs for approx 1.5-2miles both north and south, i opted to go north bound running with the flow of the creek. I only managed to get 1 run from what felt like a beast of a bass ☹, there were plenty of little back hidey holes to explore and the wildlife along the way was awesome ranging from squirrels, raccoons, turtles and owls. Although the fishing was slow just being on the water was MORE than rewarding and i must say i THOROUGHLY ENJOYED MYSELF.
the staff were very welcoming and helpful in getting me on the water and informative as too where i would best off fishing.
10/10 for price and 100/10 for the scenery👍👌👍👍👌👍👍👌👍👌👍👌👍👌👍👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌

Don't think about it, do it!

By Katrina P |

Just off the main highway, you wouldn't believe such a peaceful place of nature exists here. It's breathtaking and you'll want to take so many pictures! I rented a kayak, they provide bags to keep your stuff dry and life jackets. Also good instructions on what to see. The waters are tranquil and winding and at times you don't even need to paddle. I saw so much wildlife - dragonflies, butterflies, fish, turtles, and AN ALLIGATOR! This place took my breath away. I can't believe I almost didn't make it here. Take my advice and just go, you won't regret it.

Fantastic day out.

We went to Shingle Creek to enjoy the kayaking, which was good fun. The creek itself is quiet, relaxing and offers fantastic views and some wildlife too if you're lucky.

The creek is easy to find, free parking and staff we very helpful.

Just avoid the crowds.

By Peter V |

You will be surprised when you visit this small park in Kissimmee to be fined at marker 15 location. It has two sections on both sites of US192. At the south side of the park You will find a short trail where you will use a boardwalk to cross and return to the parking place. There is also a paddling centre locate where you can hire canoes or kayaks to paddle the Shingle Creek. At the north side the park is under construction though you will be able to walk the trail. It's great to go here and avoid the tourist crowds of US192.

A qiet spot within the city.

By rbr369 |

We enjoyed kayaking along the creek and checking out the birds & animals. It was surprisingly quiet despite being close to development. Canoes were also available for rent. On land, the path easily handled a stroller for little ones. We didn't have a chance to visit the pioneer museum, but it looked interesting.

Single creek guided kayak tour

By Christopher W |

We had a great time. We took the guided kayak tour which was well worth it.

Saw alligators , turtles, lots of fish and birds. Ospreys flew over our heads.

Amazing.

I thought the park was beautiful. Walking around the boardwalk was really pretty. You can also rent kayaks there, though it was too cold to do that the day we went

Great day out at Shingle Creek Pioneer Village

By Jonathon C |

Started at the Shingle Creek Visitor Centre, great place very interesting exhibits friendly staff, great time there. Then we went to the nearby Pioneer Village great place nice to look round interesting buildings. Also there’s hiking trails kayaking and cycling trials and a picnic area a great relaxing day out. They are apparently looking at expanding the Village in the near future so I will be coming back in the future to see how much it has evolved.

Awesome photography opportunities

By Richard C |

I love this place too walk, take photos of the kayaking, actually did the kayak for the first time, very beautiful and picturesque

A little nature amidst the strip malls

By teachem4 |

We strolled through Shingle Creek during a week long stay at a nearby resort. It was a refreshing change from the manicured resort and the line of strip malls. The history of the settlement along the creek is chronicled along the paths. There are restored buildings and old artifacts to see as well. The boardwalk over the swamp was an interesting stroll. The whole park can be leisurely walked in an hour. There is an outfitter for kayak rentals as well.

Shingle Creek is a special place

By Bob P |

The only issue that prevented a 5/5 review is the signage to the car parking.
On my first visit, I walked the trails using the boardwalks only to find that several of these trails were closed, with me on the wrong side of the barrier. Another example of inadequate signage.
However, these areas were extremely interesting with a wide variety of flora and fauna, as well as swampland.
The trails are very extensive and reasonably easy to navigate, especially on the north side of Irlo Bronson Highway and all the way to the Beeline Expressway. A long walk which intend to complete on subsequent visits.
Definitely worth a visit. Camera is essential as it a supply of water.

Real Florida, kayaking, brilliant

By breagle |

Call at the welcome centre at marker 13 opposite the creek, it's really a mini museum of Florida, , we stayed in Windward Cay booked on Home away LAKESIDE Villa, it was fabulous, and mins from Shingle Creek and Disney.

AMAZING PEACE IN A CHAOTIC AREA !!!

By Frank d |

Wow, you turn off the highway into this beautiful park and it's as if you have gone back 100 years. I love the place!!! There are things to see including historical dwellings, trails to walk or ride bikes, places for a cookout or picnic, and canoe or kayak rentals to paddle up and down the Shingle Creek for up to five miles. Beautiful place. I will come here often.

2 of the best hours of our week long holiday

By Travell1ng |

We rented two double kayaks for 2hours and would go as far as to say they were 2 of the best hours of our holiday. Stunning scenery and really peaceful. Although not experienced kayakers, we decided against the tour as it was a bit more pricey but we had just as good a time and still managed to spot some alligators and turtles.
Really recommend.

Beautiful Landscapes

By crystal439 |

We unloaded our bikes at the kayak rentals and rode our bikes to the pioneer village. Beautiful, clean trails that are very well maintained. Plenty of bird life.

Quaint

By 889Brooksie |

Well done small museum like park with some interesting buildings. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great play area for children.

Beautiful park to explore

By igolfCA |

Beautiful park with nice walking paths. You can also rent kayaks or canoes. We didn't have time to stay as long as we wanted but plan to spend more time in the future. Definitely worth a stop.

Easy on the way out. Hard work on the way back.

By Lisa M |

I rented a kayak from Steffee Landing. It was a beautiful ride going south. On the way out you float along with the current. If you go all the way to the end, you end up in the center of the cypress trees. It’s gorgeous and you feel like you’re in a storybook. Then you have to paddle against the current all the way back. It was not easy so be prepared. I guess if you needed a break you could hold onto a tree or something, otherwise you’re going right back to where you came from!

Nice park with canoe trails

By luv2travel33549 |

They had canoes and kayaks that you could rent. The paths were very well maintained. They were concrete and wooden pathways. We took our dogs. They loved it, but be on the look-
out for poison ivy along the trails (three leaves). The trails were
very wide, a real family park.

Great escape from the crowds

By IwanBanens |

We found this place by coincidence on Tripadvisor. Thought we would give it a go and we really loved it. You can take a kayak (single or double) or canoe to peddle on the small river/creek. You can go two ways. Paddle through the creek and see turtles (for sure), alligators (maybe) and birds. Also you might see some snakes.

Paddling is really easy with the sit-on-top kayaks. Also there is no need to fear the alligators. They are more scared of you. We didn't see any. Still a nice place to spend a few hours and see Florida nature.

Definitely an amazing park open to adventures

By Luis G |

I was trying to find a nice place to walk and enjoy nature with family so decide to give it a try.
It was worth it and end up been much more beautiful than expecteded!!
Walked about 2 miles with wife and 11 year old daughter enjoying this beautiful place.
Found beautiful trails, lots of shades, amazing views, safe place to hike, walk, biking and great for kayak with facilities like bathrooms, picnic tables , vendor machines and kayak rental with great people like JJ and Richard willing to help customers with great attitude, tips and great customer service skills!!!

Definitely will recommend it to family and friends. 👍😉🚣🏻🐊🐟🌳🚴🏻

Great guided Kayak trip!

By Vienne |

The guide was very informative and the kayaks were easy to manipulate. We loved seeing the birds and alligators and learning more about the trees and plants in the area. Would definitely recommend this to anyone who visits the area!

A quick stroll through nature

By KTBJ |

Shingle Creek Regional Park, Kissimmee, Florida is the perfect convenient spot for a quick get away. Located right off of Hwy 192 but seemingly miles away from the hustle and bustle of the attractions. 2 Hours will give you a pleasant paddle through lovely hammocks and open areas. Just enough to enjoy but not too much that your butt hurts!

Cute hidden park!

By Ruby U |

Really fun place to explore, decent kayak/canoe pricing, and plenty of shade during the hotter days! Will return! Just wish it was a little bigger!

Great Nature Trails

By Darrin P |

Great place to check out nature in such a busy city...great trails, great views...also a few Geocache in the park.

Quiet and enjoyable

By Andrea G |

It is nice to just walk and enjoy nature. If you kayak they have rentals. If you are looking for adventure...this is not it. It just allows you to have time for nature.

Excellent experience... Highly recommended

By Murray |

My 84 Yr old brother in law and I rented a double kayak for 2 hours, it was his first time in a kayak, we were well looked after with good advice, we had a fantastic paddle down stream for 30mins seeing lots of turtles and large birds, to the really close cypress forest, then back up to the base.
Then upstream for 10mins where we spotted George !! What a thrill. He is one impressive, solid alligator, looks about 10 to 12 feet long, but really wide in the head and belly... fantastic.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Kayaking on Shingle Creek

By rt66pics |

Great place to kayak-- you can rent canoes and kayaks or bring your own-- with a launching fee-- Was $8 last time there. Watch out -- there are alligators and one is very large.

Peaceful remote kayaking

By FourOnTour444 |

Starting from the busy road, it took less than one minute to reach peace & quiet of Shingle Creek. Very well looked after, felt safe and revceived good instructions. Life jackets, waterproof drop box and paddles all in excellent condition - fabulous afternoon, highly recommend a visit.

Hidden jewel

By SanHen5 |

My kids and I went to Shingle Creek today and rented canoes. It was the most amazing experience ever. It was majestic and beautiful. There was even a baby alligator in the water. The rain didn't spoil the adventure either; it only made this picturesque boat ride more enjoyable. The staff was super cool and friendly and so helpful. This is a must go to spot for visiting the Kissimmee/Orlando area without breaking the budget. Canoe/Kayak rental was super affordable ($16/hour) and I believe there were bike rentals as well. We didn't get to go hiking due to the weather worsening but the canoe ride was sufficient. We are definitely going back before leaving. This is a hidden jewel amongst all the crazy expensive attractions in the area. Definitely take your camera for some awesome photo ops!!!

Kayaking adventure right near everything. Self service

By eyetacs |

Weekday girls trip to Orlando from Ft Myers. Found this last minute as we all love kayaking. Self service kayak rental right by the launch. Didnt know what to expect but wow we had an amazing time paddling thru the mangroves and cypress trees. Lots of birds turtles and wildlife. Was pretty serene and quit nice once u left the launch as its near a busy roadway. We went south and came to a sign that said to turn around now …but u can see the river went on. We went further and came to another sign (about 10
Min further) that said dangerous conditions ahead turn around now. There was kind of a current there with a much narrower path. We turned around at that point and headed back. As guessing something w the current and would be paddling against it on way back but would love to know why the sign was there stating dangerous conditions. This was an amazing kayaking adventure and prob would do it again as so close to Orlando- but not in the city hustle. I think it was around $35 for two hour rental . Also boardwalks for waking and some history and buildings on site we checked out after kayaking.

little gem

By biddyford |

this is a little gem only $5 per adult if you buy your ticket at the visitor center, the ticket gets you in 2 locations around the area, interesting looking at how the first settlers (crackers) to the area lived.

Nice place to canoe

By David W |

Shingle Creek is a natural river area with large cypress trees and other indigenous trees, plants and animals. Alligators can be seen as well as blue herons, Sandhills cranes, ibis, Eagles, Ospreys, Hawks and other wildlife. Picnic area is available and historic building on premise. Pleasant area to visit. Kayaks also available to enjoy river.

Peaceful part of Kissimmee

By rduinc |

This park is located off the main drag going thru Kissimmee and the entrance is easy to miss. But once inside the park, you will enjoy the relative calm as you wander the trails. You can also rent kayaks and bikes but the trails are not real long or elaborate so not sure if the bike rental is a big deal.

Really neat

By Kahley B |

We come to this creek a lot to fish. We live near it and have our own access from the community, but you can get here from Lake Toho as well. It's fairly quite and not a lot of people around. You can even kayak here and it's really fun. Just watch out for the gators!

Kayak tour

By DocSoop |

Jumped in a canoe with a colleague for a guided kayak tour of Shingle Creek.
Was quite good, very peaceful, saw turtles and osprey, some of our party saw an alligator as well.
Our guide was very knowledgeable, though it would have been nicer to start with the upstream trip before turning around to coast home!

Small but Interesting

By Lee P |

A good place to get a background of the region. The museum is well done and gives a great picture of the wildlife past and present. The park buildings across the highway were closed but the Kayak rentals were open and busy. Nice trails to walk and amble parking.

Had a blast

By Eliz J |

My family and I absolutely had a blast here. It's very lovely, I had packed a small lunch,we walked around, checked the place out and really had a good time. Next time we are in the area again we will definitely plan another day there.

Pass

By Rinah S |

On a lovely afternoon we decided to take a hike and see some wildlife. We were the second car in the empty lot. The trail is nicely paved and handicapped accessible. The trail went along some not very nice housing projects and there were some characters hanging out that made us feel uncomfortable. There was only one small area over water that had birds and major roads on all sides. Not what we expected from other reviews.

Great public park

By Robert G |

this has bene out go to park for walks wityh the doog. they also have a kyak rental with a great creek to paddle in. lots of trains, clean and safe

Peace & Quiet - Just miles from Disney!

By S&B Adventure Team |

Unless you have been here, you won't believe me that there is a place to get away from a large amount of the tourists, the Disney traffic, and the concrete jungle that is Kissimmee. It is right off 192 and FREE (yes, I said FREE) to enter and park. We brought our own bicycles and unloaded them from the vehicle. You have several different direction you can go. Along the trails (which are mostly concrete with the occasional wooden boardwalk) you will find historical buildings, good areas to stop and take a drink and read the history of the home and area. The trails are very well kept with only the minimal litter from guests that recently traveled through, not large amounts of trash showing that the city didn't care. There are trash cans along the way, so it is just worthless people that can't clean up after themselves that are ruining it from being pristine. There are also benches to stop and enjoy the nature around you, if you are so inclined. There are several loops on the parking area side that you can ride/walk, with no car or modern home in sight. You can then cross under 192 and enjoy another section of trails in the woods. Beautiful park areas just beg to be stopped at for you to enjoy a snack or lunch. Many times the trails will open up at the water's edge to enjoy the view of the tannic waters of Shingle Creek. This is a must do if you like bicycling or walking through nature. So very interesting to find just 6 miles from the entrance to Disney. Only negative, though I don't count it against the attraction, is that many people on the trails don't understand what "On your left" means. Either they didn't understand English when we would yell it or they didn't care to move out of the way of our bikes. Family of 5 took up the whole trail and wouldn't move as we can through and then got upset that we had to ask them to move. Had to ride in the grass to get around them. Just poor manners, like people littering. The bonus on the ride? We saw no less than 12 wild hares (bunnies) along the trails, just eating and doing their own thing. And listening to the birds call over our heads while peddling through the canopied trails was great! Now we just have to get our kayaks out here to check out the creek!

A place to take a stroll in Kissimmee

By wbullseye |

I decided to take a short stroll along the trails found inside Shingle Creek Regional Park after visiting the nearby Osceola County Welcome Center & History Museum. If you visit the museum first you have the option to walk the trail in either direction. If you head south from the museum you will cross under HWY 192 to Steffee landing. If you head north you will head towards the Pioneer Village. Both parking at and visiting the park are free.

The path south from the museum is along concrete and a short boardwalk, except if you take the side paths to the historical buildings. These paths are dirt and can be rough in certain sections with tree roots and flooded areas. You will first come across the paddling center on your right as you go under the bridge. While I didn't check out what they provided, there did seem to be a steady crowd going out on the water. At the paddling center you will find the Steffee Family Cabin dating back to 1880. There are also public bathrooms and water fountains at the paddling center.

If you have time I would recommend taking the short trail to the Steffee Homestead. There is also a public parking lot at the homestead site. Also in this area is a caretaker house dating back to 1920. At both the Steffee sites there are informational boards that explain the history. At the homestead site there are picnic tables available as well.

The trail leading to the Pioneer Village from the museum follows Shingle Creek. I would only recommend taking the trail all the way to the village if you have a lot of time and the weather is not too hot. It is approximately 1.5 miles one-way. However if you have time I would highly recommend driving to the Pioneer Village. There is a nominal entrance fee, but you get the chance to see multiple historical buildings. It is also the northern point of the Shingle Creek Regional Park.

While the trail is concrete and not necessarily the most scenic, I would recommend spending some time here. You'll get the chance to see turtles, squirrels and other wildlife along the way and get a history lesson to boot. Everyone of all ages will find something to do, from just a leisurely stroll to kayaking down the creek.

Adventurous Day Out

By Julie C |

My family and I spent a couple of hours kayaking early in October. We had a brilliant time and saw a very different side to Orlando. Our journey was adventurous with numerous turtles, birds, snakes, spiders and initially couple of 3ft Alligators. Eventually we came across a 10/11ft Alligator basking on the river bank - this was both awesome and terrifying at the same time, thankfully it was not interested in us!

Short bike ride on a hot day

By Nicki W |

The family and I recently visited Orlando and did a search on nearby Parks and we came across this one. There aren't as many trails as we are accustomed to but we still had a good time. The scenery was very nice.

Beautiful and Serene

By SunNStars |

We rented a canoe and Alex set us up with lots of patience for my 50 questions. Once you get past the traffic noise it becomes so tranquil and beautiful. We spent two hours here gently paddling through the creek. We saw some turtles and some very nice birds. I totally recommend this to get off the beaten path of the area amusements. Some portions were quite narrow so general knowledge of paddling is a must.

Nice getaway

By Departure817790 |

Peaceful and quiet. Nice place to get away from people and the crowds, especially from the crowds at Disney's resorts.

Great outdoor exploration opportunity

By lbjiowa |

We had a couple hours and wanted a peaceful place to ride our bikes. This was excellent! Wonderful, wide wooden paths (once you figure out where to find the start (look behind the Kayak Rental shak). We enjoyed all the plant markers, the old sawmill equipment, the family home (1911) and the Caretaker's Home(1920). Everything was in excellent repair.

Lovely walk

By Charlotte |

Lovely place for a quiet, scenic walk where we saw lizards, a snake, a possum, multiple squirrels, a scarlet tanager (bird), but unfortunately no gators! Not many places for shade so we were pleased it was a cooler day when we visited. We - unintentionally - parked off South Bass Road and did a walk in a loop which was about 4,000 steps. Would have preferred slightly longer but it was lovely for a short stroll. There's an option to visit the village which we didn't do, just walked past it

Lovely Park, Historic Center and Trail

By hoosierhiker |

Shingle Creek Park is an urban park in Kissimmee, Florida at the headwaters of the Florida Everglades. We stopped at the welcome center and enjoyed the historic displays of this area of Florida. Walked the trail both directions. It is a well-maintained wide walking and biking trail. A rental center has kayaks, canoes and stand-up paddle boards. Visitors can travel about two miles on Shingle Creek. Tours are also available.

My day trip.

By sunshine18102 |

A lovely walking trail threw the woods. Abit long maybe 1 to 2 miles. I say this because I have a bad knee and it was close to 100 out. Very nice but just too hot. They had some buildings and a homestead. Downside is they have a sign posted warning people that they are not liable if people got hurt. Maybe wild animals in there. I did not see any.

Kayaking in a beautiful Park

By Jacklyln S |

We could walk from the Baymont Inn to the Park. Then we found we rent a Kayak and go down a creek about a mile and half and then back. We had 2 hours of paddling and floating in a beautiful park. A wonderful relaxing afternoon. We also saw a Bald Eagle near a nest but no alligators. The staff was wonderful, experienced and helpful. We would recommend a visit to Shingle Creek Park for walking, biking, canoeing to everyone. It is also in an unusual location, the middle of Vine St.

Not my thing.

By Janice K |

Went here with my husband after noticing they allow kayaking. You can rent kayaks and equipment and kayak around there. There are some walking trails and picnic areas. I personally would not ever go kayaking here. I can't remember if it's crocodiles or alligators but they have them in Florida - everywhere. Oh no.

A quiet place to relax..

By DizTraveler |

and possible enjoy a nice relaxing trip down the creek, via canoe or kayaks. Very peaceful.

I came on a mild day, the weather was on the warmer side, like all places in Central Florida best times to enjoy outdoors is when its atleast mid 70s or less.

Great place

By wiganwonderer2018 |

First time kayakers (if that's a word) great staff really friendly we went about half an hour into the creek then came back did not see any gators as was to busy keeping the boat straight we really enjoyed the experience a little gem of a place

Good for biking or kayaks, not interesting hiking trail

By Judy B |

This is a well maintained park with wide paved trails good for bike riding, The creek is pretty with very slow moving water for those who want to rent a kayak. We were expecting a pretty walking trail following the river and it did not meet our expectations. Only a few birds at the two ponds in the middle of the day. Also a lot of the cement path is in the direct sun rather than being through trees.

Great walk or kayak on the creek

By MJNielsen |

We walked this trail for a bit, it’s beautiful. The path has stops where drinking fountains and restrooms are available.

Hidden wonder

By Ray H |

A kayak ride st Shingle Creek is the best ride in Kissimmeee. The views are terrific. Lots of wildlife and the trip is just fun. Highly recommend to add to your vacation agenda. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Will be back

Great park in middle of city

By Daniel C |

The park has boats for rent if you want to paddle the river. The trails are well maintained and have beautiful boardwalk sections through the swamp. Definitely stop by if in the area.

Mother Nature at it finest

By Ashlie T |

We strolled this park after grabbing a bit to eat in downtown Kissimmee. Absolutely love this park. Very clean and loved the boardwalk area. Parking lot is rather small considering how large the park is, but definitely a nice get away. They also offer kayaking and canoeing for a reasonable price. We will be returning to try out the kayaks one of these days.

Beautiful trail system

By Judi O |

We were visiting Kissimmee with three generations including grandson ages 9-17. We enjoyed the displays in the Kissimmee visitor center prior to going on a walk on Shingle Creek that left from the visitor center.

Relaxing Saturday Afternoon

By MrZabava |

We went to the Shingle Park Welcome Center to check out some local activities and learn about the park. The young lady at the booth was very helpful and pleasant. Inside the Welcome Center there is a historical display of the flora and the fauna in the area. We then went across 192 to take a walk down the paths and check out the kayaking area. It's a nice place to take your dog for a walk and is well shaded.

Nice place to take a walk, see local environment, but still close to town.

By Pam S |

Visited Shingle Creek twice and walked on the available paths. You can walk (or bike) as little as you like or 5+ miles on paved pathways. Kyaking is also available. We enjoyed watching the planes fly low overhead as we walked along the bike trail.

Ecco kayak tour offered by the Ritz and Marriott

By odilelosaltos |

When you stay at the Ritz or JWMarriott, you can take a two plus hour tour of Shingle creek by kayak, we have done this tour twice with the same great experience both time, Norm our guide was very knowledgeable about the area.
Not to be missed if staying at either hotel

Great bit of history

By EscortMad |

We firstly went to the museum and leant so much about the origional 'Crackers'. The children had a scavenger hunt to do so had a great Wee hour themselves finding out lots of information .we managed to get entry into the pioneer village for just $5 each as we had come there first. We decided to walk to the pioneer village.BIG mistake!! Very hot and pathway totally unshaded!! Got 3/4 way there and bridge was closed! Had to decide to walk the mile back or find a different route!! We opted for different route which eventually led us back t road and the car! We then drove around to the village. It's is a work in progress but a nice change from the hussle and bussle of Orlando! Learnt lots and both guides In each place were very helpful and very friendly.

Beautiful and peaceful spot for a walk

By nylady21 |

This lovely park is right on Route 192, and you're immediately transported to a more peaceful place. Great spot for a quiet walk or you can rent a canoe or kayak to explore the waterway. Beautiful photo ops and good place for some exercise and contemplation.

This is my 6-year-old son Skylar's 1st trail. This trail is perfect for beginners to enjoy cycling, nature, and relax cycling in the beautiful scenery.

Most are paved, and there will be a little gravel in the trail. You'll meet alot of friendly cyclist. Parking space is big, safe, the welcome center is beautiful. The restroom is clean and located inside the welcome center which is pretty much a museum!

Thank you! Enjoy the cycling!

Looking for a running or bike trail in Orlando?

By Rick_NL70 |

Looking for a running or bike trail in Orlando? I can advice this area. Nice secure trails to use for running or a bike (you can rent a bike for 20$ per hour). It's close to the commercial area US192 but you will not notice this.

Beautiful walk and Scenery

What a nice little park but oh, the mosquitoes!

By Linja |

We had a very nice walk around the historic area of this park and then tried to walk a trail but were swarmed by mosquitoes who were even biting through T-shirts so we high-tailed it out of there. We were just killing some time so had not planned for a walk in a swampy area. It was a very enjoyable (but short) walk until we got to the mosquitoes!

This looked like a great place to kayak and they have rentals right there but be sure to wear insect repellent!

Beautiful

By spwilliams13 |

This is a wonderful area of immense natural beauty which is easy to access just off marker 15 on the 192. You will not believe just how quickly you are in a wilderness area away from the road and experiencing such a beautiful setting. We hired a canoe which was very reasonable for a 2 hour hire and enjoyed every moment of the experience. We couldn't recommend this highly enough and so far has been the best day of our two week vacation and certainly the best 'ride' we've been on so far!

Clear water, nice scenery

a small refuge from the city and traffic.

By Bob Porter |

Want a little place to see nature but not far?
This is it.
Dirt and partially paved walking and bike path.
Not big and you still get car noise from road but okay.
Some folks were fishing when I biked through.
Trail cuts out to side rd.
Ample parking.
If biking in the area, cut through here to get away from roadway.
Also, washrooms.

Beautiful nature!

By Fl0ridaM0m |

In the middle of all of the Orlando tourism we found this amazing trail to do some family kayaking. It is quiet and beautiful. We did it with our 3 boys and had an amazing time. This was a nice break from the crowds and theme parks in Orlando.

Relaxing kayak trip

By Petal35 |

Everyone drives past this and probably doesn't even know it is there. I visited many, many years ago when you could rent your own airboat. That hasn't been available for a long time but now you can rent kayaks and canoes and paddle 1.5 miles upstream and feel as if you are a million miles away from all the hustle and bustle.

Lots of wildlife to see and, probably the best bit, you can float all the way back :)

The staff are friendly and it is well run. Would definitely visit again.

Very Nice Paddle on Shingle Creek

By 2Tuscans |

We are local and had guests from out of town. We booked a tour, with Alex and Tia leading. We had a slow paddle south from the launch, very pretty. Although there were 12 in our group, it didn't feel crowded. Alex did a great job as lead guide, sighting birds, turtles and snakes. We will definitely keep this in mind for the future.

Since we were in the area for a bit, we thought we’d take a hike to see some nature and take pictures. We were the only car in the lot on a weekday afternoon. The trail is paved and wide open and great for handicapped but it was adjacent to housing projects that are not in the best shape. There were some people lulling around. Just a small section over water where there was good bird watching. We didn’t feel safe and there must be prettier areas around.

Nice place to Kayak

By manyloco |

Great place to park and do some kayaking, love it, is a close place in the city to do some river adventures.

Peaceful and relaxing

By Ttribe4 |

My husband and I checked this place out late one afternoon. We talked with the staff, who where very informative and friendly, about their kayak rentals. They gave us many ideas for non-Disney things to do also.
We came back early one morning to rent the kayaks and waterproof box for essentials and took off exploring.
It is amazing to find a peaceful place like this in the middle of town. Yes, you can still hear traffic and the usual sounds accompanied with city life, but the further in you go the more muffled it gets, until you block it out.
The creek allows you to do both sides of highway 192, allowing you plenty of time to paddle there and back. We saw many different kinds of birds, including a bald eagle, and a turtle we could get close enough for good pics. The cypress trees are beautiful and the Spanish moss is interesting to see. You can imagine yourself paddling around long ago, not much would be different.
I recommend going early in the morning when it's quiet and the animals are out. We didn't see any alligators, which was ok by us!
We also hiked the paths and found the picnic and parking area to be sufficient and nice. The restrooms were clean and well kept. Definitely something nice to do!

Paradise

By williego1965 |

An urban oasis few people probably knows about right now . Hiking trail , biking trails and perfect spot for canoeing and kayaking . Recent additions like hiking trails on the side of the welcome center makes it even better to enjoy the place . There are picnic tables all around but without grills . The only cons so far that I can see are probably the lack of restrooms in some spots and a bike rental . Signs all around says bike rental available but couldn't see one . Otherwise , It's a place where the whole family could enjoy hiking and wildlife viewing .

By John W |

This place advertises in most Orlando car-hire booklets, so you would expect someone to come and unlock the gates, man the info centre at the Pioneer Village. This wasn't the case today - arrived after the 10am published opening time to find locked gates with very strong "No trespassing" signs and nothing else.
Looking around it appears to be a collection of early 20th century farm buildings with tools in, so maybe we didn't miss much.

Quiet and relaxing

We Sint spend a lot of time here but we sat and had lunch by the water. It was very quiet and relaxing. They have trails which we were unable to take the day we went

Relaxing guided kayak tour through a cypress forest

By Catherine S |

Our guide, Stephanie, a native Floridian was full of information about the plants and animals throughout the two-hour trip. She knew the creek so well that she knew where to look for large and small alligators, a Brown water snake, and and I sorry nest. She gently taught me, a novice paddled, how to successfully navigate the creek. Even though we were never far from developed areas, it was as if we were in the wilderness for two hours. Not to be missed.

Highly recommended; easy outdoor activity

By adam08 |

Getting in a canoe and paddling up a scenic river with real FL wildlife doesn't get much easier or cheaper than this. It is very easy to get to; people were really helpful, and the crocks were real. Great for a half-day adventure.

Kayak the creek

By Don K |

Rented kayaks and paddled up the creek. Had a very enjoyable time. It was fun for the kids also. Plan on doing this again and heading down the creek.

Beautiful and Serene

By Irene B |

We went Kayaking ($28 for 2 hours). We didn't do a Kayak tour we did the independent. There is a simple lake route for independent kayakers. What made this a little more thrilling was the sign in front of lake stating that there are Gators and snakes in the lake. Asked a staff member about that and their response was "if you don't bother them, they won't bother you". Nevertheless, I like the water and Kayaking although I'm a City girl, so went through with it ... it was AMAZING! The lake was so beautiful it reflected the trees/sky like a mirror. I would give this a 5 star rating but the staff was very, very unfriendly. They weren't helpful with equipment or helping you out of the Kayak. Next time in Orland will have to find another place to do kayaking ... I don't like paying for anything and being treated unkind.

Much potential

By HT01 |

Go to the welcome center and walk towards the Pioneer village. It's well marked and good quality path. The $4 per person entrance to the village is a bit of a rip off. Don't go back back over the freeway into the trails by the swamp as they are closed off. This area has so much potential which is being ignored.

Great Escape

By KenJean2014 |

A quiet and peaceful place to take a short hike and get away from the crowds of Disney's resorts. It is in the middle of the city.

Great Park

By Jillobeach |

Lots to do here, give yourself hours. I love to go geocaching here. Nice shaded walking trails. I’ve not been canoeing or kayaking, but that’s available here. Lots of wildlife to see. There are playground areas for kids and washroom facilities are available.

We went biking

By St_Albans_Vt_Jim |

We rented bikes at the Stefee Landing and rode the entire length of the bike path.
Great path, clean and well maintained. Very scenic.
Alex and Rich answered all our questions and provided rental quality bikes for us to ride.

Good

By Clarissa Macedo |

A good place to go for a walk or just enjoy the green and some animals...we tried to rent a bike but it wasn't available today...You can do some kayak too.

Free SUP launch point, and steady streams

By sasiki1 |

Pretty easy place to get to, and not to crowded in the morning to do some kayaking or Stand Up Paddle boarding. When we got there in the AM there were only a handful of people walking about, and by 12pm more people started to flock in. A good abundance of wildlife to see from red ear slider turtles to sleeping alligators (they are more scared of you) pretty simple sample of the swamps of Florida

Relaxing

By PHE22 |

After the hustle of the theme parks is a lovely place to relax a large expanse of park with very few visitors.

Pleasant park to stroll along the boardwalk or kayak the creek or bike to the pioneer village

By Arbiecan |

Shingle Creek is a refuge from the commercial sprawl of Kissimmee. An easy place to just wander along the pathway and the boardwalk. On one side of the highway, at Steffee Landing, kayaks and canoes are available to rent for $30 for two hours. The paddle is quite pleasant, and one can reach the park limit in both directions within the allotted time. On the other side, there is the Osceola Welcome Centre and Museum with exhibits showcasing the county's natural habitats & history. A short bike ride on the north side takes you to the Pioneer Village, admission tickets are available at the Welcome Centre.

Heavenly Nature Preserve just 15 minutes from Disney

By George Meredith |

Peace, serenity and nature are available just minutes from the attractions along 192. I like to think of this as 4 conservation preserves, interconnected by the shingle creek. This is a very important waterway as it is widely recognized as the headwaters of the everglades. There is a large natural preserve on each east and west side of the south part of the creek below Highway 192. Across the road is another preserve along the north part of the creek that is best enjoyed by canoe or kayak. Futher up in the headwaters is a large meadow and everglade preserve that is best reached from Old Vineland Road, behind the Bealls Outlet Mall. There is some on site bike and canoe rentals seasonally and a small historical museum on the north side of 192 that is well worth a look. This quiet, peaceful nature preserve is almost unknown and is the best escape from the hectic activities of the attractions area.

Nice enough

By Gannochy |

The park isn't that big and the trails are quite short but it is a nice place to go for an hour just to get away from the hustle and bustle. You can hire canoes and bikes.

Wild (ish) Florida in the heart of Kissimmee

By 49alan2702 |

ell worth a trip here - if you can find it. Lots of walking or biking along paved trails to the Pioneer Village. Or head in the other direction onto the boardwalks. The kayaking looked good too - although we didnt do it. Take some bug repellant with you.

very nice

By Kai C |

Beautifully preserved [if small] remnant of the original Everglades before it was filled in by the Army Corps of Engineers. Wooden bridges, sandy trails whoever is taking care of this is doing a great job. Too bad they did not preserve more.

Peaceful

A interesting and well kept park off the beaten track. Exceptionally well looked after with permanent picnic tables with sunshade.

Oasis in hell

By Beth N |

Along a strip of endless tacky gift shops, chain restaurants, and unappealing tourist spots, a patch of green exists that I was fortunate enough to read about on tripadvisor. How many done Disney a few times with our seven-year-old, and wanting a respite with some natural beauty, we ventured out on a little walk into the park. We stumbled upon the paddling center and were fortunate enough to rent a two person kayak for our family of three. We saw several gators and many turtles, felt like we had stepped back into the land before time. Truly an awesome experience. The guys who worked there were great and we asked for advice of other natural stuff to do in what seems like a waste land of Kissimmee Orlando. One mentioned rock springs in Apopka. Fortunately, we took his advice and travel day or the following day. Another awesome experience. thank you shingles park paddling center!!!

Include the kayak rental on your list when near Kissimmee.

By Traveling GM |

The park was closed due to the clean up from the last hurricane Ian. We saw the sign that the kayak rental was open. We rented a two person kayak and it was lovely. The guys at the rental were friendly and helpful. Saw several beautiful birds. A lovely way to spend part of our last day here before we fly back to WA state. I recommend that you include this on your things to do list.

lovely place

By Amy d |

We were looking for a quiet place to chill before leaving Florida, this place is so beautiful. I strongly recommend you to visit if you have a couple of hours to spare

Lovely quiet park

Excellent walks very quiet & relaxing. Park ranger told us about the eagle nest. A good day out away from the parks.

Kayaking with Alligators!

By WhiteMtnskier |

We visited Shingle Creek twice during our week in Orlando. The first time we took the short recreational walk through the tropical forest. It was hot so we enjoyed the cover of palms. We noticed the kayak rental and decided to revisit. We returned for our two hour kayak rental and had an amusing conversation with the guys at the hut about my alligator fear. They convinced me they posed no threat and off we went on our adventure. We saw Osprey and Herons and other sea birds. As the riverway got narrower and more covered we saw our first Alligator on the bank. He was about 5 feet long and started into the water upon seeing us... so we paddled quickly onward. The riverway got really narrow with downed trees... I really feared getting stuck in the muck or on a tree and having to get out to maneuver my kayak, so we headed back to wider territory. Once again, speeding past the Alligator who was halfway into the water. We went past the hut and down the other way for about a mile, but it had gotten quite hot so we didn't reach the end. We didn't see any more Alligators and none swimming in the water (thank goodness). I can't say I conquered my fear of them but I did it! Highly recommend!

Not much to see

By GrumpieGrampy |

We rented bikes and toured the whole park in a little over an hour, although the minimum rental is 2 hours. The park trails are well developed but set back from the creek so you really can't see much except fields and forest. It's a little more scenic if you rent a kayak but it is a pretty short paddle.

Great Time

By BarrieDad |

Went with my 10 year old son for something to do other than attend a dance competition. It was $34 for a 2 person kayak for 2 hours. The guide suggested going south on the creek as it is narrower and there's more to see. Even though the trip back up was a bit more work against the current, it was rewarding to see the turtles and large birds of prey. We didn't see any gators which was too bad. Totally worth the cost. No risk of tipping if you have even the slightest bit of athletic ability. Very peaceful couple of hours. Wear a hat & sunscreen - especially on the legs!

Beautiful trip

By Gayle S |

We took a double kayak on Shingle Creek. It was a beautiful trip. Before we did that however, I asked the people renting the kayaks about it. I admit I was a little nervous. Alligators in the creek and I am going to kayak there?? The people were so informative and set my mind at ease. I'm glad I listened as I had a wonderful experience. When we left they were right there to help us get going in the kayak as well as when we returned. This is a great thing to do while in Florida...

Back a nature in hustle of Disney

By Ian H |

We discovered the Shingle Creek Park while looking for a short diversion from the theme parks. This is free park, with free parking (something you will appreciate after disney). The park provides a nice walk from the natural florida woodlands and swamps on raised board walks so it is suitable for all, we took a baby in a stroller very easily. Really peaceful and tranquil allowing you to see what Kissimmee was once like. You can also hire canoes (although we did not) to paddle on the creek.

Awesome.

By westieb0y |

Visited as part of Airboat ride therefore with an experienced guide. Just fascinating, beautiful and peaceful.

Ok place for a walk.

By Elizabeth T |

I think this is more of a kayaking place than a walking place. Very shady on the rail we took. Right in town.

A beautiful way to spend the afternoon

By Ruralife |

We rented a canoe and a kayak and spent a beautiful afternoon paddling up and down the creek. Not much to see with respect to wild life but you really had the feeling you were far from the city while you paddled because the shores are lined with thick brush and trees.

Paddling was easy, a wee bit challenging at the very south end but completely doable if you have any amount of experience in a canoe.

By jnlo2000 |

This is a fantastic place to visit. Right in the middle of town, it's a small oasis that represents old Florida. We walked the hiking path that wanders through lush vegetation. If you are looking for something slow paced with some nice scenery after visiting the parks, this is a great option. It's not a huge city or county park but gives visitors the opportunity to kayak, hike or picnic.

Great local history lesson

By gmroseWestChester_PA |

My two aunts from Louisiana came to visit us in Kissimmee in July. We decided to take them to Shingle Creek Park to investigate the area since my husband and I had never been there either. The park has a nice walking area on the creek side. People were kayaking. It was very serene. We drove over to other part to visit Pioneer Village. It was interesting to find out the history of the families that developed the area. The Park Ranger was friendly and knowledgeable. The place is still a work in progress. There is a nice little gift shop and restroom facilities. Both my Aunts were handicapped and it was accessible to them. There is some stonier areas so just be careful. Would recommend visiting.

Beautiful!

By chirho |

Loads of wild life, amazing trees and trails. well worth a visit, no mater what your in to! Will visit again!

Brilliant

By Robert C |

Loved our 2 hours kayaking - highlight was getting up close n personal with a 9ft gator. Beats the theme parks hands down. Great walks too. 😊

Great slice of nature close to everything

By JGreen |

We visit this area every year we are in town. Well worth visiting and they keep improving it each year. There is a new pioneer village, new play structure, washrooms (clean outhouse), great trails. The new canoe/kayak rental place is great too. The boardwalks south of the 192 is my favourite area.

Nice park

By 954CaroD |

Loved visiting this park. They offer canoeing and bike rentals. We decided to rent some bikes with the kids and had a great time on the trails. Highly recommended to visit with the family for a few hours. Hidden in the middle of the city, you almost forget that you are right in the middle of Kissimmee

Need a break from Disney?

By shifter'sguitarist |

We read up at home about this place and have been to Orlando many times. the last time ( June 2015 ) we decided we had had enough of Disney and wanted to try something different. We popped in the day before and asked what the best time was to hire kayaks. The staff couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. We went back early next morning and rented a couple of 2 man kayaks and headed off down stream. Its so peaceful and beautiful. We couldn't believe were just off the 192. Plenty of turtles and birds around. lovely setting and we saw a large alligator but didn't hang around!! I would recommend a visit to this place you won't be disappointed. I would recommend getting there about 8.30a.m or as early as when its quieter with less folks around.

Weekend walk

By Jodnay |

Nature preserve with both rough cement trails and boardwalks over the swamp areas. Historical buildings of early Shingle Creek residents. No charge, and no crowds!
Our weather was cool and windy, but the wind was well blocked by the trees. Lots of interesting trees and plants, some with descriptive identification plaques. (some plaques missing).
Benches for warm weather rest spots. Bring water when warm.
Kayak rental at the Paddling Center ($32 for two hours, double kayak)
A great place to visit and explore.

Nice 1.5 mile stroll through wooded swamp

By Jack W |

Path is in good shape but not a whole lot going on. Didn't see any wildlife of any kind. A few signs helped a little to info but perhaps a few more on vegetation would help. A nice break in close proximity to large flea market on Highway 192.

This is a nice walk and we loved the little free museum

By hrivera72 |

My son loves to go and walk there, it is a very beautiful nature walk and there are other activities to do there that I have not experienced, such as canoeing.

Wonderful location to walk adn learn about the area

By TN-Resident |

One of the highlights to our trip. Museum was very informative. The walk to the Historic village was flat and good for a casual walk. The walk to the lake was SO nice, relaxing and beautiful nature sites.

Great Place for a Relaxing Stroll

By tallen001 |

This is a nice park to visit for an afternoon stroll as it has nice well shaded walking trails, good parking, and a couple of old homestead buildings and lumbering equipment to view. Some reviews have noted that the park was not as described but we found that the park has several small parcels not contiguous to the main area. Hence, if not familiar with the area, it is somewhat confusing where to enter as the park covers both sides of Rt. 192 (West Vine Street). The main entrance is on the south side of the eastbound divided highway. Actually the entrance has a rather large sign but it can easily be missed given the busy highway traffic. There are facilities there to rent canoes and kayaks to meander along the creek itself. We will probably be back in the Spring and rent a kayak or two.

Nice place for a walk

By David G |

Clean paths, beautiful scenery, Nature all around, Animals such as squirrels, rabbits, Hawks, Eagles and other birds benches to rest shelts for picnics. a nice place for family or friends

QUIET!!

By Donna W |

Even though it is off of a very busy highway, once you get back in the park, it is surprisingly quiet. The entrance is hard to get to if you are traveling west. You have to do a u-turn to get back to it. We were there in March, so the buildings were not open. We walked a couple of trails...dirt, and wooden. Really did not see any wild life, but it was green, and it gave us a chance to stretch our legs.

Nightly Walks in Florida Nature

By Tmp1127 |

I live about 15 minutes away from this beautiful park.
I walk this path 4 nights a week.
The paths are very easy walking and about 50/50 shade vs sun.

A pathway is currently being built to connect Babb Landing and Staffee Landing currently you have to cross the VERY busy highway. When finished the path will run along side of Shingle Creek and you will go under the bridge of the highway.

On the Babb Landing side there is a Pioneer museum Wirth homesteads of some of the orginal settlers who lived on the creek.

Although I have not personally kayaked or canoed on the creek many people do.
If you do not have your own you can rent either at Staffee Park.

If you are looking for a piece of real Florida this it it.

There is a fee for the museum and kayak/canoes but you can walk the trails for free.
If you have the time I recommend doing both sides Staffee and Babb Landing.

Peace river kayaking

By Melody E |

The water was low and there are lots of trees in the water. We were a few feet from a 5 foot gator, he splashed in the Water and went under our kayak. His tail taped my hand! It was kinda nerve wracking. We ran into a tree and it rained spiders down upon us. I screamed like a 4 year old. This was NOT my favorite trip and I suggest you be an experienced kayaker in order to take on all the downed trees. It is maneuverable with skill. On a good note, drop in is easy. Scenery was wild Florida and beautiful. Ruins of the old country bridge and lots of spots where the hurricane waters have dumped debris. Probably better at a higher water level.

Nature Break

By coneyhasit |

Enjoyed this as a break from a trip revolving mainly around theme parks. Our teens loved paddling their way through a beautiful park and we saw a gator, turtles and herons. Spring was a great time as it was warm and not buggy at all. We rented one kayak and one canoe for the 5 of us. Everyone was hungry for lunch or we would have stayed and hiked the nature trails. Maybe next time....

great park, smaller than it appears

By frogworlduk |

nice woodland/ river park that is smaller than it seems. Great trails that connect through to the edge of walmart. interesting pioneer style houses and canoeing rental. nice walk through. we saw a wood turtle.

Step back a few centuries

By Andrew P |

It was lovely to get a complete change of pace here. Despite that the center was literally just off the 192.

Wow!

By Angela L |

I can not recommend Shingle Creek Regional Park highly enough. It is quite simply a truly beautiful place to spend some quality time surrounded by gorgeous nature.

We hired two kayaks and took them out for a spin. The staff were helpful and friendly and gave us novice kayakers the confidence to go it alone without a guide. We had two wonderful hours paddling in the creek - I haven’t kayaked in 40 years but found it easy enough to get a hang of because of their clear guidance.

Don’t hesitate -even if (like us) you don’t spot an alligator you will see plenty of wonderful sights and have the time of your life.

Went for a walk

By Michael W |

Looking for some exercise a couple of days we went to Shingle Creek. They have a paved trail that runs from the canoe launch to the pioneer village at is a little over a mile long.

Beautiful

A must see. We had a group of 7 and going into Shingle Creek was so beautiful and it's so peaceful. We loved it!

Best adventure of the week!

By CrazyHamsterRuns |

Forget the theme parks amd crowds! Joined a friend of mine for this tour and we WILL be back to explore this area more! The quiet of the creek made you forget that you were just a few miles from one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world (with the exception of the occasional siren in the distance) Our tour guide Alex was awesome and has the best eye for spotting wildlife wherever it may be hiding!

Cant wait until next time!!

Family outing for kayaking

By dawgs1222 |

Great views while kayaking. It is a workout if you aren't use to paddling in very calm water. If your a beginner, only do one part of creek and not both. The staff was extremely nice

Kayaking with alligators

By Ivar J |

Me and my daughter and my grand child rented kayaks and went on a selfguided tour on the Shingle creek. It was the best thing on our vacation in Orlando. We saw big alligators, turtles and birds on our trip down the creek.

Kayaking and hiking

By SandraDee114 |

My daughter and I went kayaking and hiking here. It was beautiful there. I was a little hesitant about kayaking as I never did it before but they have double kayaks for the inexperienced. It was fun.......but be sure to bring sunscreen, water and a snack.

Very picturesque forest in middle of Orlando's urban setting !

By Bucklion |

This just down Bass Road, just minutes south of Orlando’s world famous theme parks . It is part of Everglades and its absolutely beautiful place. I went kayaking and it was definitely the highlight of my trip. Absolutely stupendous with very calm waters. There are turtles and lots of variety of birds and even seen some alligators! Alligators were probably used to people because they never moved. The people who rent out Kayaks are very helpful and show you best route to enjoy everything. You are going through foresty space and then supprized by huge open space.

Awesome

to Beautiful adventure. Informative and affordable tour. Our 14 y/o dyr loved seeing snakes, baby alligator and an owl. Can’t wait to go back the next time we go to FL. Felt like we were on another planet. So different from Los Angeles!!

We the adults loved it although the kids were scared of what could be venturing beneath the canoe.
It was so pretty and quiet.
Well worth a trip away from the theme parks.
We saw a bird and turtle but simply being with nature was lovely.
Staff were decent too.

Great place to spend a morning kayaking

By chrissyb_10 |

Great place to spend a morning or afternoon . Rent a kayak, and paddle along the creek in either direction. Saw herons turtles and birds, thank fully no gators. A very peaceful place once you leave behind the traffic noise of the 192. A lovely little oasis of calm and tranquility. We didn’t do walking trail but loved the kayaking.

CALMING, SOOTHING, NATURE

By Kizmet13 |

I have been boating on Shingle Creek since I was a little girl. The rope swing was a lot of fun. Nowadays I just relax in the boat going about 2 knots and place my foot or hand in the water. ( No I'm not worried about the snakes and gators.) Florida born and bred. Anywho, its a nice creek to quietly boat down. Although so close to the bustle of town you can still slip away into nature.

a nice change from theme parks

By spexmaniac |

If you are looking to get away from theme parks and crowds this might be the ideal get away, while away a couple of hours paddling through the water of Shingle creek. Do wear bug spray and plenty of sun oil, but a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours

Nice Place for a Hike

By rmorin49 |

My wife and I hiked for a couple hours in this park today. The weather was incredible, a slight breeze and temps in the mid 70s. The park is very nice, has a restroom and also a paddling center if you want to rent a kayak or canoe. We hiked one of the trails, it is about a mile long each way, so 2 miles total. Flat, smooth so it is fine with tennis shoes, you don't need hiking shoes. If you are in the area and like to hike, give it a try. We enjoyed it.

Hidden Gem

Noticed this park while driving down the road and pulled in to explore. Beautiful. Plan on spending more time there next year on our travels. I was surprised not to see it even mentioned on things to do in the area. Recommend this to anyone traveling to Kissimmee.

Kayaking Here!

Besides having a boardwalk and several paths, a playground and a dog park in the section off of the back part, they have Kayaks for rent. It is so close to the city, right off of Irlo Bronson, but it is a hidden gem.

Walk

By Steffie29 |

What a beautiful trail off of rt192 Kissimmee. I would say it is about a 3.5 walk total. The pathway is either would or cement so you could also run or ride your bike. There are ponds and lakes along the way with a variety of birds. Along the other side is conservation land. Such a wonderful trail to have amongst all the busyness of Kissimmee and Orlando.

Nature On The Doorsteps of the Parks

By mille7 |

I could not believe such a beautiful place was so close to the theme parks. We started our visit in the Osceola County Welcome Center, this was a great starting point as it gave a good insite to what we would later see. The staff there are extremely helpful and let us watch them feed their gator.
Next we drove up to the Pioneer Village (buy tickets at the welcome center for a discount). They have many original building that you can look inside and see what life used to be like in old Florida, the families stories are told on boards outside each building.
After this we drove down to the Shingle Creek Regional park, this is a beautiful area with a picnic site, country walks, river, hiking and biking trails, canoes and kayak rentals.

Lovely peaceful place just off the 192 ...

By Simon H |

This park is lovely and peaceful, despite being right next to the 192 and just up the road from a large Walmart store! It's easy to drive past it, as there are no obvious signs (and of course so many advertising hoardings to distract you).
We really enjoyed it here - there's been money spent on providing facilities (toilets, for instance) and hard landscaped pathways. We were going to return later in our stay to try out the kayaking, but I was so badly bitten by mosquitoes on the first visit that it put us off to be honest. Extra strength insect repellent a must!!
Give it a try if you're in the area and you'll enjoy the peace and quiet away from those noisy theme parks!

not bad for a peaceful walk

By Carla |

not very big or anything special but nice enough for a nice quiet stroll and a snapshot view of floridian vegetation

beautiful!!

By lauveen |

After walking the trail at Steffe Creek landing, we returned to rent a canoe from the Paddling Centre at 4266 W. Vine St. in Kissimmee. Everyone canoeing or kayaking had huge grins - it was just lovely.

Great walking trail

By pnmmoore |

Easy parking, quiet walk, connected to many trails that you could spend all day walking or bike riding. Also, many resting and picnic areas. The village area is very informative.

Brilliant

By Jayne2126 |

4 of us took 2 boats out - 1 x double kayak & 1 x Indian canoe. Very clear instructions given and advice. Bit unsteady at first as 1st time doing this but so glad we did. We went on a Monday as it was busy on the weekend. It was peaceful and effortless. Lots of wildlife to see. On the way back to return the canoes we saw a massive gator -about 7-8 feet long but so broad. Quite scarey but what a memory to have. Paddled back quicker after seeing him!!! Cost us about $32 per boat for 2 hrs. Good value for money. There was some shade but take a hat, sunscreen and water if going out. Would highly recommend as the Creek is beautiful

Back to nature

By Paul D |

The paddle down Shingle Creek generates a real wow factor. We rented a couple of tandem kayaks for 2 hours which is just enough time to paddle up and down the creek. The scenery was beautiful, hard to believe the proximity to the city. Various wild life was seen, including turtles basking in the sun. Staff friendly and helpful. A great 'break' from the parks.

Great Natural setting, very well preserved. Just for walk or kayak or bike. Great for family fun and bonding. Great for team outing as well. Parking is bit limited. Right off main road for easy access. The walking trails are great. You won’t be disappointed.
Very good park management and stuff to glimpse at while taking a stroll or walk or paddling.

Nice boardwalk through the swamp

By reise3 |

This is a nice spot to take a short hike, so it's perfect for families with small kids. The path alternates between a roughly paved walkway & a boardwalk over the swamp. Bikes are welcome on the wide paths, but if you bring small children, be mindful that some sections of the boardwalk are open on the sides. It's rather short, though, so I think walking is a better choice. There are a few structures to look at, but the nicest areas are some scenic, serene spots along the swamp. Occasionally you might see a warbird from the nearby Kissimmee Air Museum fly overhead. Next time, we'll make use of the kayak/canoe rentals & explore the creek.

No pressure fun.

By Nick C |

This is a great place to bring the family and bikes as well. Nice trails for walking or riding. Just be careful with young, inexperienced riders on the pathway that doesn't have proper railings. All in all, a great place for FREE family fun!

Kayaking tour — great experience

By hvonderh |

What a lovely break from the touristy, over-priced attractions of Orlando. Be sure to include this in your visit to the region. The meandering Creek follows a gorgeous path and wildlife abounds. Water is provided and the tour guides made even the novices feel comfortable. Single or double kayaks. Paddle boarding is offered, too.

Great place for walking and biking

By Shelley A |

This is a well kept trail that was popular with families, strollers and bikes. Some interesting points of interest to see along the way.

Beautiful

By Mel |

Hotel was outstanding. The hotel is located off the road for a very quiet area. There was golfing on site, a trail to walk around, large pools, and fitness center. I stayed their for business for one week. Runs where clean, and staff was very nice. There are some restaurants inside that served excellent fresh food. If you wanted, you can also walk across the street where there is a supermarket. They had available parking on site.

Kayak Outing

By steg |

Rented two single kayaks for two hours with a friend while on a girls weekend in Orlando. We had a great time exploring Shingle Creek by boat. The kayaks were in good shape. Staff were helpful and friendly. This was a spur of the moment decision so it was nice that they had small dry bags for sale. It was the perfect way to spend a relaxing afternoon.

BEST KEPT SECRET IN KISSIMMEE

By mountainmama79 |

This park is a hidden oasis in the midst of the busy city and theme parks. Beautifully maintained walking/biking trails and a “paddling” trail on the creek. Bring your own watercraft or rent canoe/kayak. We saw many birds and even an alligator in a lake along the trail! Stop and tour the Pioneer Museum and Village ($7 for adults). Great way to relax between hectic days at WDW.

Hidden gem

By Bevdoll5 |

We drove past the park a few times and didn’t realise it was there. A very peaceful sanctuary away from the busy 192 road and the even busier theme parks. Really enjoyed the trail round to the Pioneer village and the kids loved having a run around and eventually finding the play park while we ate a picnic. Would definitely recommend for a quiet walk

"Back to Nature"

By Billie R |

Careful not to miss this little gem of a spot while traveling the 192 corridor from Kissimmee, FL to Disney. Nestled among the beautiful trees is a little piece of heaven. A great place for hiking, canoeing, kayaking or nature photography. This quiet waterway follows the headwaters of the Florida Everglades and boasts plenty of birds, amphibian and wildlife if you take the time to explore. Peaceful and relaxing for the whole family.

Great fun outdoors in the middle of a city

By vac123q |

Park offers a paved trail that mostly parallels the creek where people can walk/run and bike. The main attraction is the creek itself though. Kayaks and canoes can be rented for a flat fee which is sweet. The water trail north of the 192 is sinuous and shallow and requires a certain skill level to navigate; it runs 1.3 miles north and just under a mile south. Wildlife consists of mainly birds and turtles, although apparently there is an alligator. Otters have been spotted too...

Escape from the madness

By madaboutholsBradford |

Great place for a walk or kayak so peaceful. unbelievable that you are in the middle of the madness, easy find just 2 minutes from medieval times. Well worth a visit just to to get some peace and quite

Off the Beaten Path

Shingle creek is one of those hidden gems. I found the park by accident. I am glad I did and I have returned regularly.

Beautiful - Highly Recommend It

By Christine H |

We passed by the sign for this park, check online and went for a morning. It is an exceptional oasis in the chaos of Disney. We rented a canoe and kayak. Grandson got to fish (3 bass!). Spent a couple hours paddling down a lovely creek, saw turtles, birds, 2 alligators. No charge for the park, the rentals were reasonable. It was great.

What an experience.

By jane s |

Had a brilliant two hours kayaking with my husband and six year old daughter.
After a quick tutorial we were off and immediately felt we were on an adventure.
We saw all sorts of wildlife including turtles and alligators.
I even managed to fall in the creek getting out of my he kayak, my husband has never laughed so much.
A truly fantastic experience that should not be missed.
We couldn't believe it was only 35 dollars.

kAYAKING

By midiala l |

If you are a Nature Lover's Shingle Creek is for you. It is absolutely gorgeous. Miles of pure forest, everlgades and wild life. you can rent single or double kayaks and canoes. Very family friendly. Great for pictures. Take Turnpike north exit in 242, make left in the light. Go down 1-92 for about 15 miles and the park will be on the left hand side. This is total relaxation at its best.

Real Florida!

By Camden50 |

A beautiful bit of real Florida right in the middle of Kissimmee/Disney tourism! So worth a visit whether you are a local or visiting from out of town. We packed a breakfast and set out for a morning kayak. Along the way we saw lots of birds, a Florida Red Snake in the creek, an alligator (didn't bother us) and lots of beautiful cypress trees. The staff is wonderful at educating you on all you need to know. Awesome experience.

Excellent Place to visit

By James M |

Shingle Creek is excellent for a bit of the outdoors in the midst of all the tourist traps. The rentals for the kayaks/canoes was easy to find and reasonable prices. The paddling was smooth and enjoyable as We did it with little help from the 9 and 11 year old children. 2 hours was plenty of time to get in all of the sites. Highly recommend this area.

Peaceful place to decompress

By 979kaw |

My family of four adults really enjoyed walking here. We saw a few flowers and a couple pileated woodpeckers. It was great to be here away from the crowds of theme parks and the massive traffic.

Wild wild life in a kayak

By Clark S |

For under $70 we took two double kayaks down the Shingle Creek Waterway and for most of the ride we were secluded and felt like we were in a part of the Florida Everglades Serene and peaceful we took a little side tributary after watching the tortoises and turtles egrets and many other wild birds we were surprised by a charging alligator no joke we were charged no one was hurt but charged by an alligator it jumped in the water right in front of our kayak and now our decision was to go back the way we had come or keep going down this tributary . Certainly more alligators or anything else that would scare us ahead we paddled quietly with a bit of frightened intimidation down the tropical narrow waterway and there again was either the same or another alligator waiting and this time it did the same thing jumped into its habitat the alligator was more afraid of us but I can't say how afraid we were of it . It was a great trip lots of fun unfortunately for some other paddlers their cars got broken into and so for that there seems to be a low level of security and I would say please beware when you're parking your vehicle at the Shingle Creek Regional park. And oh yeah be where the alligators and the snakes.

kayak trip

nice place to rent kayaks quiet peaceful very reasonable gentleman and his son extremely friendly and helpful

Beautiful two hour kayak tour

By Sharon H |

We thoroughly enjoyed the kayak experience and Stephanie our guide helped us spot a couple gators. You can take a tour or just rent or take your own kayak or canoe. Beautiful trip.

Beautiful and tranquil

By Peter B |

This is an excellent park, although the entrance is a bit difficult to find. Parking is free and there is no entrance fee. We enjoyed walking through the well-maintained trails.

It would have made top marks except their map is confusing and inaccurate.

By BarbaraPhinney |

We drove over to it and parked near the refurbished homestead. It's a bit noisy from the 192 hwy, but nice. We had our picnic lunch there, and then looked at the map to take one of the hiking trails. Well, the map is inaccurate and there are no markers to indicate which trail you're on. We chose the one that goes under the 192, and it was pleasant and easy to manage, excellent for bikes, although we were walking. We spotted a kite, a type of hawk, as well as turtles and two white tailed deer, just as they jumped the fence into the brush from someone's yard. The problem with taking the trail across the street is getting back there. You have to turn around, or go through to the Yates' park and playground then hike about 1/4 mile up to the lights to cross back over the road.
We do plan to return to hike the trails on the south side, however. The area is serene and lush and easy to walk.

Amazing place

By Inel10 |

We rented a canoe and had an amazing time in the pure nature of the Kissimmee wilderness and wildlife. It is stunning!
And also unbelievable that nearby is busy 192 Irlo Bronson Memorial Hwy. !! It is quite simply a truly gorgeous place to spend some time there. We enjoyed it very much. The staff were helpful and friendly. I recommend to visit Shingle Creek Regional Park.

Not to be missed, wonderful time-out from all the man-made excitement

By Berglind R |

Rowing on kayaks on the creek was one of the highlights of our Florida trip. After the excitement of the parks, this was a perfect relaxing afternoon. We had with us 4 children aged 4 to 20 and everyone loved the experience. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. Highly recommended.

A good time

By aliwdz5 |

Didn't see any gators while kayaking...and I didn't want too! Birds and snakes, yes. Beautiful scenery. We are definitely visiting them again this summer!

Peaceful Place!

By smile_again77 |

This park has a nice long wooden trail which is good for jogging, biking or just taking a nice walk while enjoying what nature offers. The trail eventually leads to an open road which seems a little odd at first but you can just turn around and take the same trail back to the beginning. I would recommend this park for a nice family picnic, canoeing or just taking pictures. There really isn't much else to do here.

Serenity away from the tourists

By puurplnova2005 |

Nice hiking trails, and Kayaking..Its so peaceful, IT feels like you are not in Kissimmee near the hustle and bustle of 192 and the parks..The Moss trees.the sounds of wildlife..you can picnic & hike,,,,

Right Off the Strip in Kissimmee

By Ron G |

Wouldn't have known it was there but for the Internet ad. Close by to our hotel, but a hidden little creek you would never know you were that close to all that traffic.

Office is in the middle so you can go up stream or down. We choose to go upstream and paddle back with the current as we were not sure how we would hold up. Friends pulled in on the way back I went a little further downstream to look around.

Nice quiet ride, saw one alligator (most were at the other end) and several turtles. Easy paddling, had two hours and made it with time to spare.

They had a good selection of tandems, canoes, or single kayaks, as well as paddle boards (why would someone want to travel by paddleboard with alligators in the stream?).

Wonderful Walking Trail

By DJEllis13 |

My family and I really enjoyed walking this trail. It is very scenic and a little gem in such a busy city. The only issue was that part of the trail is still under construction so it is not a complete loop. We had to turn around and trek back our original trail. Definitely a great place to get some walking done.

Beautiful place!

By suesX1579FI |

We was recommended this place from my brother, was a bit worried about floating down a river in a kayak(canoe) knowing alligators and other things could be very near by, but so so glad I went. The staff are very friendly and informative and very reasureing. After just a small paddle we felt as if we was in the middle of no where, such a beautiful and unspoilt area. Loads of wildlife to see and great fun. Do not forget your camera, even see an owl. Was quite upset in the end that we saw no Alligators was told they are more scared of us! Fantastic place, would highly recommend

Get a kayak and get out there.

By jakeandbella |

Such a wonderful place in the middle of all the insanity that is Disney and Universal. Truly a place where someone with serenity in mind would visit.

Away from the stressful city life

By Lizzie Sannum |

I come from Norway and I have lived in orlando for a year now. It is so hard to find anything similar to a forest or a quiet place which I am used to from back home.

I was amazed by how quiet it was there, and so much wildlife + a good paddling workout!
100% recommend it, I am going back! Excellent staff there too!

Must see for families

By tedateconomy |

This is the most underrated attraction in Florida . A great facility run by the National Park service (I believe) where a family can rent canoes and/or kayaks for 2 or 3 hours and explore the peace and tranquility of a quiet river system .

A peaceful gem

By smallessexfarmers |

Lovely peaceful park with walks through the forest, some reconstructed buildings, wildlife and a bit of history about old Florida. Loved it!

Great spot for a serene walk

By Bill H |

Located behind the Pioneer Village park. Lots of parking spaces. Primarily wide paved trail for walking or biking. Part of it parallels the Shingle Creek which is the head waters of the Everglades. Launch area for kayaks. Several shaded resting benches. Pit toilet and sun screen dispenser by Babb Rd.

a great day

By David S |

We absolutely loved the park. We kayakers for two hours up stream and down stream. Easy paddling, and great views. We didn't see any gators but we saw many birds, and a couple turtles. The staff was pleasant and patient while I quizzed him about the wisdom of kayaking amongst alligators

The Excellent Shingle Creek

By Paul_S118 |

Shingle Creek got its name because pioneers used it to work the local cyprus trees to make roof shingles, and ship them out using the small waterway. Just off the main highway to Disneyland, people can see how Florida was in the early days of settlement. People can rent canoes, or walk in the bush. It is all superbly presented and maintained, and the staff are friendly and helpful. If you are in the Kissimmee area for the other attractions, make time for this excellent state park.

Beautiful Park With Lots of Hiking / Biking Trails

By Tom_248 |

This park is located right in the city and offers lots of great trails for walking the dog and biking. A lazy river runs through it with kayak rentals at one end of the park. Wildlife is abundant... armadillos, birds, raccoons, etc. A set of historic first settler buildings are also there.

Raw nature in the middle of US 192

By TLL48 |

This unspoilt nature reserve is so inconspicuous that we didn't know it existed, even though we've been driving past it for the last 17 years.

If you're the sort that enjoys kayaking you'll be able to rent a kayak at this location, and if not you can still enjoy the stroll through the woods and take in the beautiful views.

It's hard to believe you can still enjoy nature in this way while being so close to civilisation.

Very quiet on a Sunday morning.

Tranquillity

Unexpected, beautiful historic Kissimmee in the middle of a theme park metropolis. A place to escape and relax from the urban rollercoaster. Kayaking and walking with plenty of wildlife en route - lovely.

A really lovely place just off the main throughfare. Several trails to explore from more than one entrance. Easy walking through beautiful surroundings.

Best of Nature

By Bob19512014 |

We spent 4+ hours here right off of Bronson. We saw 8 cardinals, 4 hawks, many other birds and insects. Parking was no problem. We even had a picnic lunch at one of their tables. The trails are great. Free park with boating options.
