One and Done!

By Wendy F |

Overpriced. The price of the drive-thru show was outrageous for the quality and lack of excitement of the show. For $15 + fees, 2.60, per person it was not worth the $$$$ or the trip. It was barely ½ hour to go through. When one of the traffic directors said, "Have a good evening" we looked at each other like that's it. I think we were all waiting to drive upon the WOW! Never happened. My adult son got more excitement over telling his 7&8 year old about the various roller-coasters. Just to try to spark more interest the adults were telling the kids oh look at those lights look at that. The kids just wanted more extremely over priced popcorn. My adult son said, "Oh we could have just driven through the streets of Rosemont for free."

Busy

By Richard W |

The place is very busy with crowds in the summertime. Food lines are long and the service is below average
Long wait for rides but they are great.

I love Great America in Chicago/ Gurnee

By Tamika B |

Excellent service for adults and kids the rides were great as usual and food at Johnny rockets was very fresh fresh!

Season Passes and Memberships Make shorter trips fun and not exhausting.

By Mommarazzi |

Great America continues to be one of our favorite places to take the grandkids with season passes and memberships. It allows us to go for shorter visits so we don't feel like we have to do it all in one day. Clean, well supervised, with additional staff this year.

Fast rides, slow foodservcie

By ORD-TGU |

As a first time season pass holder and also meal pass holder having visited many times in 2021 with my preteen kids, I can say that I love the rides. Like any other park, no one likes to wait in line, so we learned the system and strategized our time to maximize the experience.

What is shocking, is the lack of guidance and training all food service employees receive. It is painfully slow.

While standing in line for 30 minutes just to place an order, I have observed that there is no system and full of inefficiencies. Any fast food manager can come in and whip this place up to shape to speed it up. I think it is not a priority for management.

But the waterpark and rides are all great and a deal when holding the pass!

Holiday in the Park

By Rick C |

Holiday in the park was a very nice start to the Christmas season!
It was rather cool so we didn't stay a long time, but the lines were so short we didn't have to wait to ride anything that was open! Many things were closed but it was still a great time.

The flash pass is a must

By John M |

Cool rides and much improved food offerings although expensive, I would get the membership and also the flash pass option. The waiting time is less than 10 minutes even for the superman and you also get free parking plus 50% discount on food making it more reasonable

Most Coasters down

By Kathie G |

Brought the family only to find out that over half the costers are closed! Goliath, Batman, Viper, Demon, Justice League, Dark Night Coaster, X-Wing all closed ON TOP of the known closures of Vertical Velocity, Log ride, Maxx Force and Raging Rapids. I guess we will be riding the Wizzer over and over and over. ..

Slow fast pass ticket

By David S |

So you buy a fast pass and you think you’ll just be able to go up to the rides and get in line and move on your lovely day after spending the money to buy it. but that’s not the case what you need to do is you need to go into the park and you actually have to stand in line for 2 1/2 hours to validate your fast pass. and then something else all I know is that I’ve been here since 10 AM and it’s now 1230 and so I’m already 2 1/2 hours into waiting to upgrade my fast pass : sucks everybody in line is pissed and they don’t understand with technology how a amusement park that has the most amazing rides - are they as good quality as the service for fast pass. Or is this a sign to get out abs scrap this joint. David Selliman

Big bucks for thorough disappointment.

By jdmDEEZ |

Awful, awful place. Drove an hour and a half and spent almost $200 to go on ONE waterslide before they shut everything down due to a distant “storm”. Zero compensation. Overcrowded, overpriced, literally not a single redeeming thing about the overall experience. My family and I will never waste a dollar or a day here ever again.

Great visit

By Wildcat1111 |

We enjoyed our visit- I would say the $50 entry fee was very reasonable, the one thing I will say is the food and drink prices were pretty hefty, we didn’t look into the dining plan but I may advise people to check that or just bring small snacks in backpacks. We never really had lines or felt it was overcrowded. It did get pretty hot and humid while there, wish there was a few more misters but we just kept drinking water and utilized personal fans we brought which was a good idea. As for the rides- my 12 year old loved everything and my 10 year old also did most things. Check height requirements before arrival for younger kids!

The park was fantastic but the Batman ride was too fast and super bumpy so you were dizzy forever and you got a massive headache!!

Six Flags Technology stuck in 20th century

By Eric B |

The website says Hurricane Harbor opens at 10:30 am, but the gate workers don't open until 11, which creates an excessively long line to get in. The app does not list accurate wait times for rides in the amusement park. Both parks are under staffed so a lot of stuff is closed. The lines were excessively long and COVID-19 protocols were not enforced.

My kids enjoyed the 3 little roller coasters, but they are stuck in 20th century technology. They need a Twitter account, accurate app, accurate website, etc. That stuff all made our experience less enjoyable.

Never going back

By Matt D |

Huge waste of money. There was an unexpected storm that closed the park for hours. After $55 tickets and $35 parking, the rain day policy is that you get NO REFUND and no rain day Tix. Will never go back.

Memberships are great if you want to keep then forever

By Alex O'Brien |

I'm a big fan of six flags, which is why I decided to go ahead and get memberships for my wife and I last summer. Well, after about 14 months (the minimum time for memberships is 12 months), I decided to cancel our memberships, as we were moving and weren't going to have easy access to the park anymore. After hunting around on their membership website for about 5 minutes to find the cancellation page, I was greeted with a message saying that they strive to make cancellation as easy as possible, and I started putting in my information. Thus began the ~3 week process of repeated emails and phone calls that finally resulted in a cancelled membership. Not before the next month's payment was taken out of my account though, which I was told there was absolutely no way for me to get back. Six flags charges you for the next month if you don't cancel at least two weeks ahead of the next payment. I started the process three weeks before the payment, but apparently that didn't matter. Long story short, their customer service sucks and cancelling memberships can be a nightmare.

Nice thrill rides

By AZ-Traveler85253 |

One negative is that I splurged for the Platinum fast pass on a day when the longest line was maybe 20 minutes. Other than that, had a nice time, despite the humidity. The 4D ride was awful- technology is so 10 years ago- has to be upgraded.

Coasters were all safe and staff was attentive to safety. Food costs were of course high, but that's theme parking.

Great Place to Take your Kids!

By WorldTraveller |

This place is on par with most Disney properties, albeit a different set of dress up characters (though no outwardly weird ones like at Disney). On the plus side, the ride lines are typically shorter, the food and entrance costs are much less, and the traffic getting in and out of the park is hugely better than any Disney property I've ever been to (and that would be all of them in Florida and California, by the way). The downside is that you're not in Florida or California, so the weather isn't always as pleasant as it could be--of course, if you go here in July or August, it certainly is WAY BETTER than Florida.

Poor experience for family with wheelchair bound guest

By eldons344 |

They have a serious problem with how they handle disability access pass. On flat rides they ignore you at the exit and you have to give up and seat yourself when everyone exits. On roller coasters they ignore you at the exit. At Viper for 30 minutes at 3:30 p.m. Sunday and they ignored us and kept loading trains walking right by us. Finally they took our pass acted like they were going to load us, mumbled something we couldn't understand, then they opened gates and let everyone in. I don't know if they expected us to fight our way in?! We've been trying to ride the same rides for 3 days; unsuccessfully, as the rides keep going down for either mechanical issues or weather. Like the park, snacks and food aren't bad, and most of the people are friendly. But, this is just horrible how they treat people in wheelchairs. I also have an 8 hour drive home to Ohio; so, I really don't appreciate being screwed with like this. It makes for a very frustrating experience and I'm fairly certain violates the ADA.

Not the same as it used to be

By Lilly J |

We had a fun time walking around and shopping, but if you are someone who doesn't like roller coasters, I wouldn't recommend going. The whole theme park is mostly roller coasters and a water park now, with barely any rides for people who don't like roller coasters.

My family was extremely excited to go on the traditional rides (sky trek tower, roaring rapids, etc), but were saddened to see that those rides were both shut down. Along with this, a few of the shops were closed, and most of the carnival games were closed.

When it comes to the small arcade claw machine games, the prizes were all gone. Great America should focus on using all the money they receive from parking and food purchases, to restock their merchandise in those arcade games, as well as, refurbish a lot of the park. Most of the buildings and the pool at the front have chipped paint everywhere, the rides are all rusty (looking as though they could break at any minute), and the overall cleanliness is not good (garbage on the ground).

We were also very excited to see Looney Tunes things because that is what Great America is most known for. The shop that supposedly had Looney Tunes merchandise (cartoon shop), didn't have any of those products. The only Looney Tunes merchandise was in a small section at the front of the park, that included small stuffed animals from that show, and a lot of kids stuff only.

Personally, I believe that this park is going into the wrong direction. Instead of focusing on their roller coasters and water park, they should focus more on being an all-inclusive park. They should bring back the old traditional ways of the park. That way they would possibly bring in older generations as well, and be a park that is fitting for all ages.

Wonderful time!

By sonia v |

Had an excellent time at the Holiday at the Park. The lights throughout the park were amazing. The costumes characters were so adorable. Fun for all ages. Do as little or as much as you want and always enjoying a S’more or Hot chocolate made it that much more fun! Worth every penny!

All kinds of activities for all kinds of ages of kids

By Swiss_Zirks |

Took our kids here for some roller coasters and they really enjoyed. They started out with the lower thrills but worked their way up, now they want to return! There is also a water park which several levels of slides.

Six Flags with the grandkids

By LongabergerLady |

We always have a great time here. There were eight of this time. It was strange having that many with us this time, but since we weren’t able to go last summer, we had more wanting to go this year. Everyone but the youngest had a great time.

A really fun park, but be a little forgiving

By ben j |

We have come here a lot. Every time it starts out a bit rough. The lines are a bit too long, the drinks are a bit too hard to come by, and too much of the park is closed. Also, every time, everyone in our party has had a great time by the end. We have never left unhappy, and that is quite something.

First weekend of the new season

By Shirley B |

This trip to Six Flags Great America was awesome. They really went out of their way to be helpful. The mobile ordering for food made it easy to order on the way to the restaurant then get the food and eat rather than wait in line. We had a great time
Highly recommend

Loved it! Get a Season pass instead tho!

By Michael B |

Try Raging Bull at sunset! Absolutelly beautiful! Also Max force is totally worth the wait! Day passes are expensive! Season pass is better value!

Customer Relstions Sucks!

By Matthew R |

Guest Relatio s is ridiculous!
Peak time and only 2 people working the Guest Relations office. One for the line of people already in the park and 1 for people outside.

Slow, slow, slow .... and not friendly.

Checking off another park

By RideMoreCoasters |

Visited over Labor Day weekend. Weather was rainy first day - but surprisingly rides were still operational (although riding in rain is painful - so we tend to avoid). Nice little park - traditional expectations met of a Six Flags park - slow ride operators and food workers. Enjoyed getting on a few new to us roller coasters.

This was a very nice park and had great food unlike the Six Flags parks in Texas

By Venture550559 |

The rides were awesome. If you are a thrill ride/coaster lover you will think you've died and gone to coaster heaven. So many and so fun.

6 flags Hurricane harbor Illinois

By Stay51216414665 |

Never went to such place at that high cost with so low services
Half of the park closed and you cannot figure out before getting there...
FYI, 1 locker cost is $14
4 rafts only available for the Bahama Mama and Bubba Tubba which make the queue just crazy
Will probably never go back there

Great memories for my 6 year old great niece 1st ever visit to 6 Flags Great America

By enriquecortez1962 |

My 6 year old great niece 1st ever 6 Flags Great America experience and my 24th Annual 6 flags Great America experience on April 24th, 2021. all the staff from the parking staff to the ride staff to the exit staff went out of there way to make my great nice and i feel like we were the only ones in the park. It was so nice after not being able to go last year because of Covid. Thank you for the great precautions that you took to open the park safely

Fright Fest doesn't disappoint

By Heather F |

Went here for Fright Fest, loved that they have a new themed drink every year. Love at First Fright is always a show we need to see every year, and I loved the characters in the park. I also love the fudge they sell.

Sucks Flags

By ANNE T |

They tripled their prices. The service is even worse than before. Most of the facilities don’t work. The riots keep breaking. The water fountains don’t even work. A beverage cost over $10. What a waste of time and money

disappointed

Great place to visit but have your wallet ready to do some events in the park not all pass holders will have free parking ,get ready to pay for high priced junk food yes all meals at Great America is 15.99 per plate. If you ride the go carts its 12.00 a person a bucket of popcorn will cost you 10.00 ta pretzel will cost you 7.99 plus tax do not buy pass deals its not worth it buy your passes individually @ Jewel. The best time to go is doing the week. Pack a lunch and save your money unless you don't mind paying 24.00 for a refillable cup. Bring a cooler full of food and beverages your good to go. But try to enjoy yourself ! This at GURNEE ILLINOIS I can't speak for all SIXFLAGS good luck!

Nothing Open

By Kurt V. |

I went with my son (age 12) on 7/7 and half the rides were closed, including all the water rides. I figured that it could be a "mid-week" thing, so we went today (7/10) and it was the same with only the log ride open (for water rides). Most of the games were closed as well. The food was terrible, although that's not a big surprise for amusement parks. A hamburger with fries was almost $20 and it was cold and took FOREVER to get. When I was a kid and even right before COVID, it was still a wonderful experience with kids, now... well it more disappointing to see his sad face after the visit than if I told him we weren't going at all. SO LAME!

Too long of lines to be worth the extra pass

By Gina W |

Fright Fest is not worth the haunted house pass $. Too many people line jumping. We were here from 11-9pm. Got into one haunted house bc large groups of rude Karens think that their time is more valuable. The park is fun but the extra wrist band is not worth the $40. Maybe if security did their job instead of just warning people for line jumping.

Good but too hot

By Lee P |

The roller coaster rides were really great, but me and my fiancé went there during the summer time and you’d think that bring its busiest time of the year, they’d accompany for it. But unfortunately not, it was close to mid 90s or 35 Celsius degrees and there was no fans or shade for almost all of the lines. Felt like I was going to pass out from the heat

Fun adventure

By Hien bui |

It was a very fun experience! Went with a couple of college buddies and had a great time. The rides were very fun, took a while to get on but was worth it.

BEST PLACE EVER

By Taylor L |

I LOVE SIX FLAGS GREAT AMERICA!! I probably went there with my friend once a week during the summer, we are now in love!!!!

Absolutely not worth it anymore

By Carolyn |

Every visit this season has been terrible in too many ways to mention here. Key points. Don’t buy picture pass, they aren’t doing entrance or character photos and only a couple of the ride cameras are operating. Don’t buy a flash pass because if it’s even open that day you won’t need it. Don’t transfer cash to card because there isn’t anywhere to spend it. Less than a handful of games open in the entire park and they are the most difficult to win or require multiple players. If you are a legacy member or part of the rewards program you will have problems trying to redeem your rewards. If you use the parking reservation through the portal you are at risk of having you reservation canceled unknowingly by a stranger anywhere in the country because of a problem they have no intention on fixing. Do yourself a favor and skip the aggressive decline.

The mystery surcharge is now up to $1.30 on all purchases.

By DePaulAlum |

It's been about seven years since I was here, but things have only gotten worse. I noticed fewer staff, less picnic tables, less families, and more groups of teenagers (on a Sunday during the day). As someone else commented, you can't bring in food or drink, so if you spend some time there you are stuck with their rip-off prices for food. Want a turkey leg for $18? Actually the "surcharge" they slap on all purchases adds an additional $!.30 to any purchase you make. So apparently the $17.99 turkey leg would cost you an additional $1.30. According to their customer support, they charge the additional $1.30 on all purchases. Why? Because they can get away with it. Don't you just love places that charge high prices and then go out of their way to nickel and dime you to death?

6 Flags Water Park

Had a fun day but the lounge chairs were absolutely filthy. Water and other facilities were clean. Lots of shadey places to relax.

Great Family Activity!

By Michelle K |

I grew up going to six flags and always loved it. Taking my kids there now as a family is just as enjoyable! (If not more)

While some of the Greats of my youth are gone, they’ve come up with bigger and better rides over the years. The newer rides are faster and smoother and thrilling! Thought they still have some of the classics like American Eagle. They have a very family friendly atmosphere. (Except fright fest) The bathrooms have been clean the 5 times I’ve gone from Oct2018 till this last weekend. They have wonderful snack and beverage deals. They now offer meal plans and photo packages. They’ve definitely stepped up their game. We love going together as a family!

I will say, while 6Flags has many more options for the younger kids than it did when I was little, I personally wouldn’t come with small children that can do most of the bigger rides. While they have a parent swap option which is great, it’s not always functional with a child’s patience level!

I look forward to visiting many times this year with our affordable season pass!

Night time is the best time.

By Huck |

The park is quite dirty and rundown. That certainly doesn't mean I felt unsafe at any time. They do have a nice collection of coasters, which is all I do there. We're all going to hell, so enjoy the ride!

Horrible customer service and ragedy wheelchairs

By SWK D |

I visited this place for a birthday celebration and was disappointed by the lack of English-speaking staff. They mentioned having many exchange workers, but I’ve been to countries where English was spoken better than here, and this is Illinois!

The staff seemed more interested in chatting among themselves than attending to guests. The wheelchair I was using was broken and kept stalling. When I reported these issues to the staff, they were indifferent. After returning home, I emailed a complaint and was told I should have spoken to a supervisor on-site, which I did. They then said I should have spoken to a different supervisor. I spent an hour dealing with a food issue and another hour with the wheelchair problem. I guess they wanted my entire day to be spent trying to escalate my concerns.

Horrible place!

I have emails to prove it.

Think again on the flashpasses.

By Experience624406 |

Went for Frightfest and bought the most expensive Flash passes because we knew it would be busy. Well what they don't tell you on the website is that the people who get the cheapest Flashpasses and the ones who purchase the one-shot (basically a flashpass for one ride) can schedule all of their rides and take up all of the available times. I'd go on the app to schedule a ride, and it would say "queue full." This happened for hours. I paid $210 for one flashpass for this to happen to me. The haunted houses were great, the 13th Order was our favorite followed by Gates of Hell. We got express passes for the haunted houses though. The only complaint we had about the haunted houses is that they were hard to find. We walked past one (while looking for it), no lit up sign or anything. The scary decorations are really great. The food prices are getting ridiculous. I was going to get two slices of pizza and then realized that it would cost $30. A full pizza is $55. All in all, it was a super fun day because of the haunted houses, but I'll have to really consider going again with how expensive it was and not able to do all the rides we wanted.

Poor opening weekend

By melwing28 |

Attended the theme park Sunday for the opening weekend. Being the opening weekend you’d think this would be the standard of what would come the rest of the year. Unfortunately if this visit was anything to go by then I would worry what it’d be like in the summer.

The park wasn’t greatly busy, lines were maybe half hour at their longest. However, times could had been shortened had staff been capable of moving at a pace, it seemed ALL staff were taking their time doing their tasks. What also didn’t help was having one coaster for each ride only going, some also unloaded and loaded the same one that just went round which of course causes delays.

Unfortunately we were unable to do all of the rides, several of them kept breaking more than once, again not good on opening weekend. However for a Sunday that wasn’t too busy it is impossible to get on each ride.
Water rides were not open either which was a shame as the weather was great for the weekend.

Overall, definitely wouldn’t hurry back anytime soon. Several of the rollercoasters are good, however if you cannot get all rides don’t when it is quiet, it sure wouldn’t happen during a peak season.

Horrendous Facility and Customer Service

By ChiTravel2 |

This place is awful. I planned to treat my 14 year old to an afternoon at the park, bought 2 Ultimate Passes. First--don't ever buy those passes. We still waited in substantial lines. Many times we waited in line only for them to close the ride for whatever reason. Final straw was they left us in the hallways for the Batman ride for about 30 minutes (before announcing they had closed it), it was about 95 degrees, 100% humidity and zero ventilation. After that we tried to ride the Joker (closed of course) and then we packed it in. Overall was there about 3 hours, rode 4 total rides.

I gave my experience to customer service. Basically, their corporate policy is: we have your money, we don't care.

The park also looks like it had its best days in 1987. It is run down, dirty, smells and just generally is a dump. I honestly have no idea how this place remains in business.

I have been a member at Six Flags Great America for many years. I have to say the staff this year has shown a significant improvement. The ride operators are fun and entertaining. I highly recommend spending a day at Six Flags Great America!

Kids enjoyed the Holiday in the Park

By Allen21096 |

We came to Six Flags Great America on a Saturday evening for the Holiday in the Park celebrations. Certainly a week before Christmas, you can expect the weather to be cold, but that worked out, as the lines were short and the park was not crowded. The kids enjoyed the rides that were available. We had park passes, parking passes and food passes, so the price was reasonable for the seven of us. The park does a very nice job with the holiday themed attractions, festivities and food. The light show was really fun, as well.

Check out Fright Fest!

By TravelerJenny8 |

We are season pass holders, so we definitely like heading to Six Flags about once a month. The nice thing about Fright Fest is going early in the day with the kids to enjoy the free trick or treating and not so scary atmosphere. The only reason I can't give five stars is the fact that they always seem short staffed which leads to longer than normal wait times.

A little rain didn't spoil the fun

By James S |

We were at the park on a pretty busy day a year ago and at that time we were able to purchase 2019 season passes for less than day admission. So we returned this year on a cloudy day (Sunday of Labor Day weekend) after it had rained all morning. Our strategy is always to get to the park before they open, usually around 930am, have our passes and stuff ready and head right in towards the back of the park. Multiple rides with zero to 5 minute wait on Viper, Raging Bull, X Flight, Batman, 10-15 minute wait on Superman, Joker, Goliath, 30-40 minute wait for Dark Knight, about 1 hour for Maxx Force. We rode like crazy till about 1pm then walked around and got food at the main food court. There are many choices there so everybody gets what they want: orange chicken and rice, pizza and fries, chicken strips, quesidillas and nachos, burgers, salads, and sandwiches to name a few. A couple of rides weren't running or were closed for the season, and it was the last hurrah for the attached waterpark, but we had a good time. We don't waste money on flash passes but instead plan our visit so we get in plenty of rides with short waits. On cloudy/light rainy days they will still open at 10 or 1030 but may people won't go to the park until it clears up. It tends to fill up on those days in the early afternoon, so the waits tend get longer, sometimes an hour or more on most rides. Weekends and holidays are always busier than normal weekdays. Plan on spending $100 or more on food and drinks if you are there all day with a family, especially teenagers.

Had Better, Had Worse

By Amusementparkguy |

A friend and I had not been to this park in a while, so we decided to make another visit. Apparently, so did everyone else within the Midwest. It took quite a while to get into the parking lot. The line to enter the park was also very long. The wait time for rides was incredibly long. The rides we did get on seemed to be running well. Several of the rides were down, probably due to lack of staff.

The employees were not friendly but not rude either. I understand this can be a tough job as I worked at an amusement park years ago too.

Food lines were ridiculous. The line to get food was longer than the lines to ride the coasters. We left early, a bit disappointed in our day. Hopefully things will get better.

To be desired

By Matt M |

From my experience recently at Great America they apparently specialize in lies and deceit. Was excited about the apparent "All new DC Universe"to realize the only thing "All new" was the paint and some new signage. I mean how idiotic do you think your guests are?? The Yankee Clipper water ride is now somehow the Aquaman ride?? Why because you gave a paint job and a new name. Their was absolutely NOTHING Aquaman about it except a sign upon entrance. The food court had maybe 3 restaurants open. So many shops cloed and a bunch of rides closed as well. Is cutting the grass and a landscaping upgrade that costly? The weeds and foliage are such an eyesore youd think the park also had a Swamp Thing universe (why not right since its also a DC character?) The place is honestly just an overall dump that needs a power spraying and paint job like no other. If money is that tight just close the place.

Six Flags Great America

By Nate Flayter |

Riding on roller coasters always used to freak me out, but Six Flags Great America really made me like roller coasters. If you are ever bored and want to do something fun, visit Six Flags Great America. Six Flags GA is a great place because it is big enough to hold a variant of rides, the park is family friendly, and Six Flags always has different park themes happening!
The size of Six Flags Great America is absolutely enormous! The parks size is even big enough to hold two parks, one being a water park(Hurricane Harbor), and the regular amusement park with roller coasters! Six Flags GA has 75 rides and attractions(which will be 76 soon because of the new water ride being added), being the Six Flags with the second most rides/attractions(next to Six Flags New Jersey), and covers 300 acres! Just so you know, most amusement parks only cover a bit over 100 acres! Along with all of this, the park is very family friendly, which is what will be talked about next.
The park is extremely family friendly, meaning the staff is very helpful, nice, and fun, and the rides range from little kid rides, to thrill rides. The parks staff always jokes around, for example, on a ride called Vertical Velocity, the worker doesn’t tell you when you are going to launch and talks about random stuff and then BOOM, you’re off in the sky! For little kids, they can go on rides like Sprocket Rocket, Crazy Bus, Little Dipper, and many more. For older teens/adults, there are scary thrill rides like Goliath, Raging Bull, Batman, etc. The park will never disappoint! Including its fun themes!
Six Flags Great America is always having a different theme, including Fright Fest, Holiday in the Park, or different discounts on your ticket the next time you come to the park. Fright Fest is always a fun experience to take your pre-teens or older kids. Don’t worry though, spooky things don’t happen until 6 p.m. so if you get scared easily, there is plenty of time to enjoy the day before it's a scary time. Holiday in the Park was also a great add-on to Six Flags because it keeps the park open longer, usually, the park closed after Fright Fest, but now it ends on New Years! Although the wooden rides close, the other rides are still perfectly usable and enjoyed by many tourists!
In conclusion, Six Flags Great America is a great place to visit because of its big size, the parks family friendliness, and the different fun themes happening! Going to Six Flags is definitely a great place to go!

Excellent!!! We had a group of 8 and everyone had a blast. The food portions were HUGE and sold at a decent price. We will be back.

Roller Coaster Heaven

By HappyTraveler1998 |

My son just turned that age where he wants to ride roller coasters and I am old enough to not want to go on them. So for his sake, we went Labor Day weekend. I went online to buy tickets and they had a sale. $69 for a 2020 season pass but we can use it for the rest of this year. They also upgraded it to Gold so we got free parking and some other perks like bringing a guest once this year. They also had Platinum Flash passes for $229 but we initially passed on those. However, after going the first day, we quickly realized that we needed the Flash passes and bought them. The next day, we skipped the bulk of the lines and were able to ride many more coasters. Did I mention, I’m a born again roller coaster rider? The first day, we ate there but we had to wait over an hour for awful food so we’re not eating there again. You’re better off bringing your own food in a cooler and going out to the parking lot to eat. It’s faster and much cheaper. Overall, we had fun and plan to use our season passes a few more time. My main complaint is having to stand in line to get our Flash passes. After, that all we care about is riding the roller coasters and having fun. If you can afford the Flash pass, do it but if you plan on going more than once look into buying season passes for both admission and the Flash.

Fright Fest...NOT!

By 443robinr |

First time I went to Fright Fest. Not scary. Haunted Houses were a waste of time. Spent $40.00 each ticket and not worth it. The second house we went through they sent at least 100 people in at one time. Will not be back for Fright Fest. Enjoyed the roller coasters. The wait times were not bad until late afternoon.
Bought some cotton candy and one of the bags was not made right.

Great Rides

By cricket2017 |

This is the place to go if you like riding rides. There is something for everyone. Tickets are pricey but worth it. Get there early and spend the whole day.

Not as fun as I thought

By J E |

Six flags sucks now. Half the rides for younger kids were closed. Camp cartoon literally has 2 rides with 2 empty slots where rides used to be. Seems like there is not enough workers. Food is super expensive. I honestly don't think I would come again.

Don't buy the Daily Meal Plan...total scam!

By Barb |

We paid $78 extra for two "Dailly Meal Plans" for our kids to use at Hurricane Harbor and not worry about having cash. The website clearly shows the restaurants in Hurricane Harbor as valid locations to use the meal plans (2 meal plans, a snack and unlimited drinks). The kids tried to use their barcodes and were told they couldn't use them at Hurricane Harbor. When I called Great America to complain they apologized and said that they could "come back" and use the meal plan tickets at a later date. After all "the plans are still valid since they were not used". Are they crazy?! the plans weren't used because they didn't accept them! Do they really think I am going to pay another $140+ so the kids can go in and get chicken tenders from Great America's restaurant? They are out of their minds! Misleading advertising and taking advantage of 12 & 14 year olds. Hope you're proud of yourselves Great America staff!

After 30 plus years of fun coming back for more.

By Donna F |

Both my husband and I have been going to 6 Flags since we were little kids. This park is still fun for the 40+ age group :) 30+ years later and we still love Six Flags. Great rides, very friendly and professional staff ....unlike an Indiana Amusement park we recently visited... we had no issues with Six Flags Amusement Park. Even 40+ year old's can hop on rides and sit next to strangers on rides without the fear of rude staff targeting them because of their age. After you visit one really horrible Indiana Amusement park in Indiana you realize why you for all these years keep coming back to Six Flags in Gurnee, IL. It beats a lot of parks when it comes to quality and professional acting staff. Even 30+ years later your still not tired of 6 Flags and coming back for more says a lot about the Amusement Park.

Opening day 2019

By illhavetraffic |

Get there when the park opens, an hour wait to get in through security, an hour for Viper, another hour for Raging Bull, an hour and a half in line for a piece of pizza, followed by an hour wait for X Filght, only to get into the station to have the power go out. Wait 45 more minutes still with no power to half of the park, so ride time waits triple for the rides that are actually open. This was amateur hour for a major theme park. Get your act together, it’s a long summer.

Labor Day Weekend

By Betsy M |

Great way to end summer! The fireworks were a great way to end the day. Can’t it for fright fest they were already starting to decorate for fright fest.

Amzing

By Lexi |

My dad and I went to days in a row and finished all of the rides the second. We have a seasons pass and I would recommend one.

Rollercoaster Fun

By MayfieldParrish |

This is without a doubt rollercoaster mania. If you do not like rollercoasters your money is probably best spent elsewhere. The variety and thrills of the coasters is amazing! The park doesn't have the ambiance or class of a Disney or a Universal. It has a huge number of exciting coasters. The park could honestly use some maintenance and TLC. With Covid they had a reservation time system that helped keep the lines and number of people more manageable. If you have kids show them what an old fashioned ride centered park looks like. You can spend a day and not see or ride everything.

Ageing and lovelessly designed park with some pretty good thrill rides

By Benjamin T |

The park seems unlovingly designed and is partly outdated, several attractions were not in operation and a newer roller coaster (Maxx-Force) closed due to technical problems.

The entrance fee (online price) of usd 124 for 2 people seems fair at first glance, but is probably not quite appropriate for this park. In addition, the prices for catering are negative (1 beer pretzel and 1 5 dl bottle of mineral water = USD 17.55).

Overall, my impression is confirmed that Sixflags is focusing on squeezing lemon to satisfy investors' financial expectations.

Great time

By ZWP112 |

Had a great time! Always do! Love the characters and the staff is great! We will keep coming back! This is worth the money to go! Also if you can, get in on the season passes too! That makes it a little more cheaper!

Beautiful Day

By LostInTime |

We lucked out and got a day in the 70’s. It wasn’t that crowded so the coaster times were between 30 and 60 minutes. We stayed the whole day from 1030 to 9. Got on nearly everything. It was a great day. The number of good rides is amazing.

Don’t waste your money

By Joey C |

So I came here today specifically wanting to go on X flight. I got a fast pass to make sure I can get on the ride however when I got the little watch that allows you book things it said it was closed. In fact is said about 7 coasters were “closed”. I booked one of the ones that were available on the way there I saw those coasters that said they were closed were running. I kept checking to see if my fast pass updated and allowed me to book but it never had. So I thought maybe it’s broken. I went to guest services and talked to this boy named Noah. He said that was because the rides now no more reservation slots available. I told him that it’s said that since we got when the park opened so something doesn’t make sense. He thought it was weird too so he called the ride. They said that they won’t accept any all day because there was only one car running.
Still confused I asked him why the person that sold me that didn’t mention anything and how he didn’t even know that. He had no answer and only offered an apology which doesn’t really do much because I dropped 120 on two passes that I didn’t need because most of the rides it works for only had a 15 min wait to begin with.
In a separate obnoxious occasion during my time here we went to a place to eat. All we wanted was a burger and a grilled chicken sandwich. Keep in mind there’s a total of like 4 things on the menu. The cashier clearly had never heard of a grilled chicken sandwich before because she just stared at the menu board trying to find it. In the end we got charged for 3 Caesar salad and a burger.

In both of these instances no one seemed concerned with my level of disappointment. No one offered a refund. Just pathetic apology from someone who probably hasn’t graduated yet.

I’d avoid going here at all costs but if you do and you decide to get a fast pass ask about specific rides you want to go on and make sure they are okay with you using one of these things.

Fun Day at the Park!

By Courtney S |

We had a blast at Great America while on vacation. We went on a day when there was 50% chance of rain, so the lines were all fairly short, and there wasn't a drop of rain the entire day. I highly recommend going on X-Flight! It was the best ride there. I personally wasn't a fan of the Joker ride though, that one was just a bit too crazy for me. The park was great, and the souvenir shops also had an awesome selection to buy from. If I could change one item about the park it would be the food. It was all pretty expensive and not that great, but that's pretty standard for an amusement park.

Great America stealing kids money with debt card.

By Stanley C |

This is just criminal. If you buy one of thier debit cards and dont use over winter months they take 3 dollars and 95 cents so basically 4 dollars a month. My kid was devastated to find out it sucked most of the funds left.
I will never ever go back there for that reason alone.

promotes Unnatural sexual agenda to kids - not safe for kids anymore

By Dwayne J |

I am disappointed that this place has position themselves to promote confusion to our children regarding sexuality. I will not be getting another pass, I am disgusted, that my children can't enjoy a simple ride without being indoctrinated in an agenda that is contrary to nature and Gods design for mankind.

Fun way to spend a day

By Dave C |

This is a solid amusement park in suburban Chicago. A couple of us spent 7 hours there; got 9 rides in. We had a lot of fun, and it was well worth it. We focused on roller coasters primarily, but not exclusively. It is easy to come in and start with Maxx Force (which I recommend; lines get really long) and work one's way around the outer circle. The line was really short for the oldest roller coaster, a wooden gem called American Eagle. We got a very good lunch in the Southwest Territory. For some of the other rides, the lines were an hour (going on a weekday in late August). It is easy to find one's way around; frequent maps. Good mix of old and new rides. We just ran out of steam at 5:30.

Grandma team

By Penny B |

Part of the team is a teenybopper. We spent the whole day at hurricane harbor. It was great. The food and drinks were pretty pricey. We bought the refillable cup to save and shared all day.

Half Closed & Broken Down

By Drew C |

Been here many times and never had a day quite like this one. 5, yes 5 rides broke down while we were either on them or in line. That's silly. Several other rides were down as well, including the newest coaster. Most of the small attractions and small games are closed or gone. I understand some of this is not the park's fault as it is so hard to find people willing to work these days. That said, they need to make it clear that the experience has changed. The flash pass is really nowhere near as useful as it once was. Most of the flash pass entries aren't close enough to the start of the ride to make it worth the money. We typically waited 20-30 minutes from the flash pass entry point to to actually getting on the ride. They used to take you right to the front. Lots of flash pass signage is missing or incorrect as well. Yes, you can still skip the meat of a long line, it's just not worth the price anymore. Also, several rides had short lines and the pass still made us wait 30 minutes to get in. Only then would we see the line wasn't long and that people weren't even backed up to the flash pass entry point! The food is as gross and expensive as ever and we saw a large group of young men running around with police in tow. It looked as if they had been in a brawl - lots of bleeding. All in all it was just a really bad day at Great America but the rides we did go on were still fun. I have faith they will get things back in top shape eventually. For now it is best to avoid.

Too overcrowded

By Jocklyn B |

Never EVER go when frightt fest is going on. For an establishment this big they could have at least not overcrowd the hell for the food lines and rides. We only managed to get to 2 rides in 5 hours.

Fun fun fun

By Abe |

We went Labor Day weekend. Lines weren't bad. Rides were fun. Food was decent.

Some rides were closed though (although nothing that we missed). And it's expensive.

Generally what we expected and hoped for.

Wasted money nothing but Greed

By Jameela M |

As a family of eight we purchased the elite diamond membership along with food passes and flash passes. Big mistake big waste of money, The apps do not work in the park at home nowhere I was told to use a computer or go to the customer service desk and use their computers in order to make reservations in advance after speaking to customer service on the phone. I was given a A link to email their vendor to complain about the app not working no customer service none whatsoever. The place is filthy bathrooms no one cleaning, food tables chairs no one cleaning, no one picking up trash, cabanas filthy refrigerators in the cabanas filthy all beat up, Long wait in lines for those with elite memberships and don’t ask expect any assistance if you are disabled which I am. I was told I had to wait in the long line with a cane and barely could stand up. We were not able to take advantage of any of the services under the elite membership. Reservation are not accurate I received parking reservation for a week after I wanted to go to the park, the employees have no idea what’s going on they have blank stares on their face when you complain you are not compensated for any errors, there a long wait lines, in 90° no ice

DISCRIMINATION AGAINST THE DISABLED!

By Johanna Sodke |

I was discriminated against for being an AMPUTEE. They allowed me to board the SUPERMAN and then forced me to get off the ride after a short discriminating discussion and gimped myself back to my prosthetic in front of 100's of people. I WAS COMPLETELY 100% HUMILIATED. i have road this coaster at age 10 and `14 and was an amputee then too, but there was no problem at those times, but now that i'm a fully grown woman they're going to tell me what to do...? The park has DONE NOTHING to resolve this issue. AMPUTEES ARE NOT TREATED FAIRLY. DO NOT ATTEND SIX FLAGS.

No notification that rides were closed

By Jean R |

We drove nearly 5 hours & spent hundreds of dollars in admission and parking for nothing!
The majority of the rides were closed because of potential lightening. I appreciate that the park wants visitors to be safe HOWEVER they could have told us as we were walking in that the majority of the rides were closed. It wasn't as if the weather changed after we walked in. It wasn't even raining! We hung around for nearly 3 hours with the promise that they may open soon. We finally gave up left. I realize that they can't control the weather. The kids were heartbroken. They had been looking forward to the trip for months.

This place needs some big changes

By Aaron H |

I took this trip with 4 family members for 5 days. We were going to stay for 6 days, but we had had enough of the park by the end of the 5th day. This park is definitely not what it used to be.

Many of the rides were closed. Some of these closings were posted on the website as "temporarily closed", which was annoying, but fine. But half of the other closings weren't posted anywhere. Not on the webiste, not in the park, you just had to go the ride, expecting to get in line, and find out right there that it was closed. We bought season passes and expect to be able to ride most, if not all, of the rides. Or at least get some sort of notice if a ride is going to be closed.

Overall, the customer service is terrible. A majority of the employees at restaurants or food stands barely even acknowledge guests, and if they do, its one or two words, and they don't even smile. If you are at a theme park, friendly service should not be a rare thing. People pay a lot of money to be at these places, and should expect to be treated with good customer service.

Even on the rides, the employees barely do their jobs. Line jumping was a big problem. We saw many people cutting in line right in front of employees, and rather than ejecting the line jumpers from the ride, they pretend that they didn't see it. Meanwhile, we had a person in our group that was in a wheelchair, but they weren't allowed to use the marked handicap entrance to one of the rides. The ride attendant told her, "That would be considered line jumping, and that would make a lot of people mad." So they only enforce the line jumping rules when it effects people that physically can't stand in line.

The park is not clean. On our first day in the park, there was garbage on the ground all over the place. By the end of our fifth day, a majority of the garbage that was on the ground on the first day was still there. A lot of these problems are most likely because the park is understaffed, but you would think that cleanliness would still be a top priority.

We have season passes, so we plan to go back for Halloween and Christmas this year, but after that, we don't plan on ever going back unless there are big changes. The only saving grace was the dining passes they have. We each got the pass that gives 1 meal and 1 snack per day. So with the dining passes, along with the free refill cups that you can buy, we ended up saving hundreds of dollars on food and drink. If it weren't for that, I'd be rating one star instead of two. And its a shame, because I loved this park when I was younger.

Fun park for a day of thrills.

By Renee M |

We experienced the majority of the roller coasters in the park in one day and enjoyed them. Wrath of Rakshasa opened this year and was a very smooth ride though our group pretty widely agreed that X flight and The Joker were our favorite rides. We did not get the Flash Pass (fast pass), we arrived at opening and were able to ride 4 coasters in the first hour and 15 minutes. After that, wait times ranged from 20 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes for us when riding the coasters. We found the app for wait times to be pretty inaccurate and ended up not trusting it at all by the end of the day. Overall, a fun park for a day of thrills.

Nasty Park, Poor Shows, Great Rides, Great Food

By Ethan A |

As the title states, the good things of the park are found in the coasters and the food. As for their shows, my wife and I attend shows every time we enter an amusement park and I would say Six Flag’s shows were at the bottom of the list for quality.

Do Buy Season Pass. Do BRING your own food! Do NOT buy meal pass or flash pass, etc.

By Tweetyful |

Okay y’all...!!! Here’s the scoop on Great America. I read almost all the bad and terrible reviews & most agree.... meal & flash pass are simply not worth it! You’ll be disappointed!
But.... if you pack a few sandwiches & snacks with drinks & leave in a cooler in your car, you can enjoy music while you chat with your family & have a good meal whenever YOU WANT! no waiting in 1-hr lines for greasy junk food!

I’m more concerned with safety; are the rides SAFE for my children and their friends to ride and return home alive and healthy???!!! Everything else is minimal y’all!

TIP: buy your passes around Labor Day for their annual super sale... so totally worth it & it includes parking! Oh, & DO NOT LOSE YOUR PASS!!!! You’ll have to wait hours to replace & fee is $20 a pass!

Re-cap: 1- Bring your own food. 2- Do not buy unnecessary items like souvenirs or photos people (take your own pix (everyone has a cell these days). 3-Go really early or later in the evening, weekdays if possible. 4- If a line is more than an hour, try another (older not-so-popular ride) & return again later. 5- If you can, buy season pass during Labor Day flash sale! 6- Have healthy fun!!!

FYI...They will close the park so even if you’ve been waiting in line (almost 3 hours like my daughter & friends) & you’re next, when it’s closing time, they close! Everyone has to get out of line & out of park!

Halloween

By John M |

This is a great place and one that can be fun. Just keep in mind the lines can be long....during the summer arrive early and use the flash pass. For the Halloween it's anything goes

Great time

By Taryn B |

Lots of fun rides. Easy to navigate. Great shade for the most part when waiting in lines. Easy re entry. Friendly staff. There were some rides closed and it's to bad that the water parks not included. Also, parking is expensive. So is the food for what you get. They were selling grandma's cookies for $5.99 that you can get at a gas station for like $2.

Great place to spend time with kids

By Pavel S |

Was there many times with my daughter and we always had a lot of fun. Enjoyed not only the rides but water park also. In short it's a great place for fun for the whole family.

bizzard safety Collin

By lori w |

We have had great experience at both six flags and the harbor in Gurnee. We are visitors of 10 years! Visited the park july 10th. At the entrance, the safeties did not raise any issue. But another safety name Collin from another entrance came and did not allow my kid to enter because she was wearing water outfits (long sleeve water shirt and knee length shorts). He seemed he knew better than others and came from the entrace next to us. There is a small water park in the back of six flags. I see kids wear water outfits all the freaking time. Plus, people travel between 6 flags park and the harbor during the day. We went back to my car, I grabbed a short sleeve t shirt in my hand. we came back entered again with my daugher wearing exact same water outfit. Collin saw and did not say anything this time. Not sure what is wrong with this man. 6 flags should not allow staff to make individual rules. Collin's behavior is very annoying, like the insects at the park.

Christmas Fun

By InnyJ |

Yesterday was one of the warmer days to attend the Christmas Lights celebration. We arrived at opening, a time which wasn’t very crowded. We were able to ride all of our favorite opened rides with little or no wait. It became a lot more crowded after dark. I only gave it a 4 because some of the lights weren’t working properly, so the light show wasn’t fantastic. I’m sure they will rectify this, as it’s only the second week it’s open. All in all, we had a great day.

Great family day at Six Flags.

By Michelle B |

My family and I had a great time during our recent trip to Six Flags Great America. The weather was a little rainy but we made the most of our time there and managed to ride almost all of the coasters and many other rides. The staff from the food service, to the restroom attendants to the ride operators were all friendly and helpful. The food was a bit expensive, even for amusement park prices but having the meal plan helped. I highly recommend at least one person in your party purchase an annual membership when a special is offered. This was my family's second year visiting this park and I believe it will become an annual tradition.

It was just ok.

By fatima a |

Visited Sunday, May 16. Make sure you go early. The later it gets the more crowded it gets. Do not expect any social distancing anywhere. NO ONE is enforcing mask wearing and probably 50% of guests either had their masks under their chin, under their nose or the mask was just missing altogether. The food quality is atrocious. I could deal with the price gouging if the food tasted decent. DO NOT USE THE VENDING MACHINES!! My son wanted a Powerade and we couldn’t find one at a stand. I make a huge mistake and put my debit card in a vending machine to buy him one. The machine said $6.50 (1st mistake) so tell me why I looked at my account and was charged $10.00?! Lesson learned. On the plus side of you come early the lines are pretty short. Most staff were friendly. Parking, security, temp check and getting membership cards were all quick and painless. Maxx Force was down when we arrived but came back up later. They need to get the wait times on the app to show consistently and correctly.

Improved since My Last Visit

By Amusementparkguy |

A friend and I made this park stop number two on a recent amusement park vacation. We have been here many times before. It is a great park. There are many rides of all kinds from mild thrills to high thrills, something for everyone in your family/group. The employees were friendly and professional. Most of the rides were running on our visit. The ones that we rode were in good condition. The park was clean. Food service was a bit slow, even on a not so crowded day. But overall, we had a very good time here.

Six flag in Gurnee is a great park.

By BoardingPass69906 |

Park is clean. Food was good. Lines were not too long. I felft safe during covid. Thank you. Had fun

Amazing if you can get through the weeds and two hour wait times.

By Marie Lynn R |

Our family has been season ticket holders for several years and always add the mead deal with our pass. It’s a great way to save, especially when taking the kids. And the discount from having this pass is a nice bonus when purchasing items in the park. These make the 3 hour drive twice a month worth it.

The season drink bottle is a great deal too. The rides are a great experience once you are finally able to get seated, if they don’t break down after over an hour and half in line.

There are three major complaints I have with this amusement park and over the years, it continues to worsen.

Number one, the prices are astronomical. There is no reason a soda should ever be over $7 nor a bottles water over $6. We found out the hard way when we forgot our season bottles at home. If you purchase anything out side of the meal deal- be prepared to pay four times what you would anywhere else.

Number two, the lines are way too long. We’ve waited over two hours for a roller coaster to have it break down when we were five people away from being on the coaster. The flash pass is great- but it’s so expensive. There’s no way to finance this for four people with the season pass that is affordable. When we go, we are only able to ride three sometimes four rides when we are there all day because of the long lines.

Number three is my biggest frustration, being how we’ve waited in the ride lines for so long. Does Six Flags or Hurricane Harbor not have a grounds crew to maintain the landscaped areas in the lines?

We have been to several other parks in many other states and this is by far the worst aesthetically pleasing park. The rides are in desperate need of a pressure wash and clean up. I just don’t understand with as busy as this park is, how the management can disregard these areas.

What was once a well planted flower bed is clearly now overtaken. There is nothing but tall weeds in its place. This is over taking the walk ways in many areas too. It’s not just one, it’s almost every single one. I can count the very few number of maintained areas versus not.

It’s very disappointing to pay as much as we do and not have a better experience.

TOO EXPENSIVE FOR WHAT YOU GET NOW

By Kent M |

With the INSANE price increases for 2022 this has become a terrible value for families. We live in KC / often go to Chicago, St Louis and Dallas Six Flags in same year. $150 a person now for pass???? I don't think so. When we went to Chicago last summer a lot of rides were shut down and lines insane long / mainly because under-staffed. Hard to get drinks - food pass would be a joke with lines at food places. New CEO I am sure will regret his crazy price increase.

Not chubby friendly or kind.

By Michele L |

This park is fat phobic. I am not even that big. 240. I fit just fine on the Goliath the first time. The second time the belt didn’t fit. I explained that last time it did. They tried to get it closed and then kicked me off the ride completely humiliated. My daughter asked to please let her off to come with me and they refused. No one showed any caring or empathy for me. No one tried a different seat. I had ridden that same day.
All the big rides are awful. They are all catered to skinny fit people. I was so embarrassed and treated so horribly after waiting 90 mins in line. Don’t go here even if you’re a little fluffy. Not fun.

Never again

By Joseph G |

Horrible, price gouging at every turn. Parking was $42, can't get online tickets without paying for the picture pass. $8.00 for a soda. Fuk this place, never again. I will encourage people to not go as we all should. It's only for the rich.

TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!

By Sonja Richards |

My daughter wanted to do Fright Fest for her birthday. Bought tickets, parking, and Fright fest upgrade express pass online in advance. For the 5 of us it was $677. Got there only to be turned away due to capacity limit. How??? Why were we able to buy tickets? Such a shame! My daughter and her friends were truly disappointed. I'd better get a refund or be allowed to go another day. If not they can look forward to NBC Chicago channel 5 news to be contacting them.

A quick review of an opening weekend visit – Sunday April 25, 2021.

By slug |

As one entered the park there were tents set up for walk through temperature checks.

Reservations were required and it appeared that there were capacity limits in play. The park felt fairly empty. Of course, the temperature was 45 degrees that day so that may have also had an impact on the crowd level.

Six Flags staff were not enforcing mask requirements and social distancing standards. While the vast majority of people wore masks correctly, about 20% did not. People tended to bunch up in the ride queues as well.

Certain rides were loaded every other row, but not all rides. They appeared to sanitize the rides on a frequent basis. At least it seemed that way since each roller coaster was sanitized when I was in line. The seats would be sprayed and then the cars would run empty.

Hand sanitizer stations were set up on the main paths, but not at the individual rides.

Food lines were not long, but there were a number of closed food outlets. The self-service soda areas were also closed.

Flash Pass – I spent an hour in line just to pick up the flash pass. Ugh!

Load times seemed to be longer than usual. I am not sure if this was due to the opening weekend, new employees and/or not enough employees.

The employees I encountered were friendly and helpful.

The Washington Street entrance was closed the day I visited, so double check before you try to use it in the future.

A cold - but enjoyable day

By Dawn S |

The day we went to Six Flags was chilly- which kept away the large crowds. The ride times were short! The food was excellent. The employees were very helpful.

PAY EXTRA or BEING YELLED AT

By Jasmine F |

This is the worst water park I ever been to. A safeguard in lazy River white tube entrance is very rude. My 12 year old daughter and I got into the river from the blue tube entrance, a safety guard in white tube entrance ordered us to get off tube. I understand other people are waiting for white tube, now we know the rules. I said we left our shoes at the other entrance, she said we have to walk back without shoe. I didn’t want walk back without shoe and decided to float to my shoe. My daughter got out immediately at request, but the safety guard lady kept on saying bad words to her, such as “I’m the manager, I could cease your seasonal pass……”. When I met my daughter later, she was in a very low mood, didn’t tell me anything and just want to leave. We are very unhappy about the PAY EXTRA or BEING YELLED AT treatment in Hurricane Harbor Waterpark. As I learned later from my daughter what the safety guard said to her, I was very upset and would file a complaint if I was still in the park. We will never never recommend this park to anyone who wants a pleasant experience, who wants to be treated politely and equally.

Meal Deal

By Wauconda |

Purchased the one day meal deal for $34.99. Meal lines were longer than ride lines. 1 hour to order and receive chicken tenders. Food lines were severely under staffed. One worker to refill drinks, make & serve food. I will never purchase this meal deal again. Huge waste of money!

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY AT FRIGHT FEST

By Gianna L |

Fright fest used to be good...not sure what happened these last 3-4 years.
They have like 5 actors in each haunted house and they want to charge $30 a person for all 6 haunted houses and $99 for a haunted house season pass!!! That's more than the regular season pass! Not worth it...especially when they haunted houses are just basically decorations and no actors.

The lines are ridiculous for Fright Fest...doesn't help that many rides have been closed down! :(

What happened to the old six flags??? :(

Take advantage of the moblie app and (spotty) free wi-fi.

By illinois travelere |

Did financier J. P. Morgan really say, "If you have to ask how much it costs, you can't afford it."?

I dunno, but that brings me to Six Flags Great America.

I have been coming here since 1976.

2019 was my first Fright Fest. It was great for people watching, being entertained, and rides -- it was very disappointing for food, snacks, and souvenirs. You've been warned.

As others have pointed out, the food is crazy expensive -- like airport food, and for the same reason. Your options are severely limited. For example, a pretzel is $8.50 with another $2 for cheese. But if you crave a pretzel, it's the only game/price in town.

Yes, we show up in an on-holiday/vacation mental state ....but that doesn't mean we want our outing to cost the equivalent of a car payment. My suggestion -- get your left hand stamped and either take a tailgate break with a pre-packed cooler meal out in the parking lot, or actually leave the park and go to one of the nearby restaurants.

Be careful with hand sanitizer and/or soap and water so that you do not wash off your re-entry stamp.

Back to Fright Fest. The two shows and the parade are great.

Updated "Love at First Fright" is back for its 28th season. The sound system does right by the extensive and well-known musical playlist, but the dialogue was difficult to understand. Nevertheless, the music will have you singing along and bouncing in your seat.

The illusions in "The Ringmaster's Cabaret" are quite professional.

The "Uprising: Nightly Call of the Dead" is the beginning of the dusk-timed parade of scary creatures and vehicles, which follows the tracks through the park.

The costumes and make-up for all three shows work no matter where you stand/sit. They are eye-catching and designed to be seen from anywhere in the theater.
However, if you sit in the front section of the Grand Music Hall, you might get a fist bump from one of the characters -- they perform that close to the audience.

I've been coming here since the park opened as Marriott's Great America back in 1976. On our first visit, crowds were so small that we could exit a ride, get back in line, and ride again immediately.

The original Whizzer and the Columbia Carousel are still running.

There were plans to retire the Whizzer in 2002, but wiser heads prevailed.

The Carousel animals are in need of a fresh coat of paint, and the outer ring of animals on the lower level do not move up and down -- but the wait times are short and it is an iconic and popular park feature.

The Little Dipper, a ride I remember from the now defunct Melrose Park Kiddleland (there were family visits back in the day because of much younger cousins and siblings), was resurrected at Six Flags in 2010. I took a nostalgic ride and loved it. And yes, I waved from our seats to nonexistent watching family members.

Plans for next year include the "Tsunami Surge" -- the tallest water coaster in the world, over 86 feet high (that's eight stories). Signs are up already.

My best advice is to go online -- read reviews -- go to the Six Flags website -- put the app on your phone (gives wait times and other info) -- and do as much pre-planning as possible.

When all is said and done, Six Flags Great America has some of the top-rated roller coasters in the country. Which reminds me, if you prefer the comfort of a shoulder harness, stay off Goliath.

Fun and safe experience in mother’s day!

By Gabi |

We had a lot of fun on mother’s day at six flags great america! Park was sooo clean, not crowded at all and I really like having the kids attractions near the great rides so everyone can enjoy!

Great family day out

By Stuart C |

Even though we’re from the U.K. I managed to get half price tickets online in the summer sale which despite the parking charge made this a great value day out. On a summer weekday queue times for the big rides varied between 30 and 75 minutes but we did all the big ones we wanted. We also got to meet Daffy and Bugs. The refillable drinks are also great value and food wasn’t too expensive.

Grandson won a free day pass from school

By Moe V |

So we took our grandson since he won a free day pass. It was so much fun to watch him ride the coaster with Grandpa. LOL sometimes Grandpa wasn't too happy haha. Overall we had a great time. But some of the rides were down or didn't open till late. But over all we had a very fun day. Except water prices are way too high for a bottle of water . So make sure to bring your own stuff and be ready to take a break at your car ;).

Great Time

By edculp7 |

We visited on Easter Sunday and it was opening weekend. Had a great time. Weather was great and lines were only about 45 min. Did notice some rides not open.

Turned away due to being full even though we had a ticket.

By anonymous |

We bought three tickets (parking and entry) for a specific date (October 22, 2022). We drove four hours to get there and were turned away due to the parking lot AND the park being full to capacity. When we tried to get a refund we were told that there were no refunds and that we’d have to come back on another day. Needless to say, we have no plans of ever going back and were denied a refund. I ended up having to dispute it on my credit card.

Never Again!

By BiLiNuo |

Never again! The amusement park is a real disappointment! Many attractions broke down several time over the time resulting in overtime queuing… The food is terrible on site. No choice since we cannot bring foods and drinks inside… The water fountains were not even functioning! People in the park looked very unhappy and sometimes a bit rude. For those who already went to Europa-Park in Germany, stay away from Great America! On an average, 2 hours of waiting time for each thrilling attraction… This is the last time I will go to an amusement park other than Europa-Park!

Showing clear signs of age/neglect

By nikkilynn |

I had gone to Great America every year when I was a kid (20+ years ago!). I was excited to take my daughter there last summer when she earned a ticket with the Read to Succeed program. I have to say, I was really disappointed in the state of the attractions. Some from when I was young are still there but one in particular needs to be taken down. The American Eagle is in terrible shape. I was shocked to see it was still open. Other signs of neglect were all over - peeling paint all over, broken bathroom doors, general disrepair in pretty open areas. Just disappointing to see it not being taken care of - especially for the prices they charge for admission and parking.

That said, we will go back if my daughter continues to earn her free ticket, but we wouldn't go if we didn't have the free ticket, it isn't worth the cost.

Note: We did not visit the water park.

Good time

By Jes |

My husband and I visited Six Flags Great America this weekend. We ended up getting the membership because to us it was worth it. The price of the membership is around $7 each a month. The first day we went we were a little disappointed. Some of the workers were pretty rude and seemed to not like it if you asked questions. It was really crowded both days but it seemed stressful how crowded it became on Saturday. The second day however was much better. The first hour we were there on Sunday wasn’t too busy and we were able to ride a lot of rides without having to wait too long. The works we talked to or that were working at the rides were a lot nicer. It is a fun place to attend and we will definitely be getting our moneys worth this season.

Fourth of July Trip with the Grandkids

By LongabergerLady |

I hadn't been here for a really long time. My husband and two of the grandkids hadn't been here before. They had such a wonderful time. It was extremely humid and the lines were long, but everyone enjoyed.

Fun time!

By jeremyf987 |

We take multiple trips to Six Flags every summer. I go with friends with young children they absolutely love going there. So much for any age kid to do. My personal favorite is the show ‘Rocklusions’. And don’t get me started on the shows offered at Fright Fest in the fall! We will be back in a few weeks. Then again for Fright Fest! Can’t wait!

Fun Day

By Rachael Denmon |

We stopped here on a Thursday and wait times were great! The park was very clean and all staff were friendly! Definitley worth a stop to have some fun!

Long lines, expensive food, ads everywhere

By Talor B |

This was my first Six Flags park and I'm not sure I'll visit another any time soon. The park had ridiculously long lines (a flash pass available for purchase at $155), food was expensive ($18 for a plate of soggy spaghetti), and advertising absolutely everywhere. Not a great experience.

Decent amusement park

By Tina Tomas |

Decent amusement park with large variety of attractions. It is located in North suburbs of Chicago. Usually is 90 min drive with traffic from downtown Chicago and 1 hour from Milwaukee. Good place to spent a day with your family.

Something for everyone in your group

By MekkTekk |

There are so many different and amazing rides in this park, there will be something for everyone in your group. On a Sunday in late August, the lines were not bad at all. We could always find a major ride where the line was only 5-10 minutes. We skipped rides with long waits and found that they would be shorter later on because the crowds moved around the park in a sporadic way. I like coasters that are smooth, fast and don’t have too many violent rolls or jarring (makes be sick). For this my personal favorites Raging Bull, Viper and X-Flight. The smooth rolls in X-Flight were a really nice sensation. American Eagle was so teeth shatteringly rough that it took away from the experience. Also – the rides here seemed to close for maintenance a little less often than other six flags. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the Chicago area.

Gross..like a ghost town full of low lifes

By ana m |

This place is gross..many rides down..and a shell of what it used to be..went in October and the Octoberfest was not open at all despite being advertised as open …crowd was very seedy.i was warned punks and gang bangers hang out there at night (probably because the tickets are so cheap)..there was no life or energy to the place..the workers (especially on the race cars)seemed so annoyed to be there…not one cast member around..no trolleys..lines way too long because they have so few roller coasters..no shoes..no trains at all..no parades…no nothing…it was sad to see how it has deteriorated..go to Disney. Pristine and much better crowd.

Good park, but underwhelmed

By tripeo |

We have been visiting all the Six Flags parks in US and this was one of the last ones. Have heard great things about it, but the park didn't live up to what was expected. The rides were okay, but nothing really stand out. We did have a good time, but we did have an accessibility pass (get a return time to ride). Maybe it wouldn't have been as good of a day with all the lines.

Great day at the Park

By RJ Rockford il |

Went to Six Flags Great America on 06/18/2021. The experience was fantastic. The park was quite busy, very hot day. Able to get on rides in reasonable times considering how busy. Only wished that roaring rapids or the boat rides had been open for such a hot day. Enjoyed the Log ride a couple of times, lots of fun. Park was clean, staff was fantastic. Really a great day. Thank you Six Flags for continuing to play Justin Beiber in the park by the Demon. Love ❤️ Justin Beiber. Price of entrance fee is great this year. Myself, two nieces and nephew really enjoyed ourselves. Again, Thank You Six Flags for a memorable day of fun.

Over crowded chaos. Not fun

By Stormée A |

We bought the affordable season pass as it came with free parking and seemed like a good deal. We arrived at 11 a.m. and we're only able to ride pme rode as it was so over packed people could barely walk threw. They cheaped out for Freight Fest which used to be wonderful(I've been to Six flags in Gurnee numerous times in my life) was a few cheap costumes and smoke machines with the occasional monster statue. We luckily brought some snacks in the car as we weren't able to get any food to eat due to not only being over packed, there were teenagers running all over jumping the lines and None of the workers were doing anything about it. Waste of time money and a drive. Never went back.

Disability pass is worthless

By Becky C |

We have a child with a disability and wanted to use the disability assistance pass. The problem with the pass is that we are a family of 5 and the pass is good for only the person with a disability and 3 other guests. So our family can’t go on any rides together unless we all want to wait in line. The isn’t possible with my daughter. They suggested that my daughter can go with 2 people and then go a different time with the other 2. But that defeats the purpose of going as a family if we can’t ride the rides together. Especially when our other 2 are young kids as well. Very disappointed in a place I use love going to as a kid.

Middle finger

By Melissa D |

Waited 10 minutes at Steelworks Pub for a bartender to show up. 545, only my 2nd drink attempted to purchase. My first one at 12, almost 6 hours before... was a margarita. This time, after getting attitude from 4 different employees on why I'm waiting 10 minutes at the bar, I ask if I can get a jack on the rocks. No, just jack and coke. OK. I say jack and coke is fine. They say, no, we're not serving you anymore. Haha, okay, screw you too. And thanks for wasting my time.

Not My Best Visit Here, but Okay Overall

By Amusementparkguy |

A friend of mine had not been to the amusement parks in the Midwest for several years and asked if we could do our annual park trip to parks around me. We added this one to our itinerary.

As always, this park is CROWDED, even on weekdays. Of the many times I have visited here, there was only one day the crowds were low, and that was a cloudy, rainy, cool day about 15 years ago.

The rides were in good condition. Sadly, several of the spinning rides were not in operation, due to staffing issues. One of the ones closed was the Frisbee swinging ride, which is one of my favorites as well as a rare ride in the U.S.

Food offerings are typical of most parks. The food lines were not as long as other times. The food was not too bad.

Employees seemed to be friendly for the most part.

Overall, not a bad day.

When it comes to Six Flags parks you have to accept the good and the bad

By The Pidge |

As is the case with most Six Flags properties, enjoyment means having to put up with some inconveniences and frustrations.

The park, while nicely-designed, could use some TLC- pavement is cracked, flower beds are unkempt, and remnants of removed rides lurk behind untamed grass. The food isn't good, especially considering the high prices. Lines didn't appear too long but the combination of staffing issues and slow operations ensured at least a small wait for just about everything open- which wasn't everything, by the way. All coasters were running but some flat rides, one of the log flumes, and the observation tower were among those not open, and showing no signs of opening this season.

On the plus side, Six Flags Great America has an outstanding collection of roller coasters to appeal to riders of all ages and interests. Raging Bull, Viper, X-Flight, Goliath, Whizzer, and Maxx Force are standouts in a theme park with more than a dozen scream machines. The train circling the park is on the opposite end of the intensity spectrum but is worth a ride, if for no other reason than to give one's feet a much-needed rest. Despite some parts looking worn and tired, this is still a beautiful park.

I tried to alleviate the problem of long waits with Flash Pass and found it to be an expensive waste of money. Despite paying full price, not all rides advertised as part of the program were accepting Flash Pass riders, and throughout the day more rides were suddenly made unavailable. Of all the major theme park chains, the system in place at Six Flags is by far the worst. If you decide to pay for the upgrade, do yourself a favor and use your smartphone- the line to pick up the Flash Pass units quickly got longer than the rides themselves.

A depressed theme park.

By Larry W |

My family took me and others to G.A. Saturday before Fathers Day, we thought it would be a great idea until we arrived at the park, mind you the park was coming out of the pandemic. After we arrived at the park it was our worst experience, the park was in horrible condition, there were no shows, the rides were all rusted, the grounds were filthy and the workers seemed depressed and overworked. The buildings were in bad need of paint, the ponds had trash in them, the bathrooms had water on the floors and they looked as if they had never been cleaned. The park was overcrowded, very dirty and there seemed to be a big shortage of workers. Some of the rides did not work and the ones that did work kept breaking down, I will never go to any Great America Park again.

Never again

By Jua T |

Paid 170 per person 4 people, for flash pass when reserving only two were open, then Pais 100 per person for haunted houses the regular line was faster than the fast pass rip off

Great weekday visit with an 8 year old but ridiculous added prices and fees

By Ashley S |

My partner and I brought my 60 year old mom and our 8 year old daughter and we all had a great time. We went on a Wednesday and the lines were pretty short (especially in the morning). Our 8 year old just reached 48 inches and was so excited to go on all of the rides. Her favorites were the Sprocket Rocket, Wizzer, and the Little Dipper roller coasters. If you're taking a younger kid, I recommend these three as an introduction to roller coasters. We also took her on the Joker and she liked it but thought it was a bit too scary and didn't want to go on any of the other thrill rides after that. We had a great time and there was a ton for her to do at Kidzopolis and Camp Cartoon. All of the rides have bins to put your belongings, which made it easy to travel around the park with all of our stuff in a small backpack. Some of the rides were closed throughout the day but seemed to open back up pretty quickly. The price of anything inside the park is absolutely ridiculous (like worse than Wrigley prices-- see below), which we already knew. We were able to avoid spending money in the park by bringing what we needed and planning ahead. We brought empty water bottles and were able to refill them at several water fountains throughout the park. We avoided spending money on park food by eating a big breakfast in Libertyville on our drive up from Chicago and stopped at the Gurnee Dairy Queen for an ice cream on our way home. We were also able to bring in a few apples, pretzels, and granola bars. They didn't check our bag on our way in. We knew food wasn't allowed and we were prepared to have to throw our snacks away if they asked us to. Many people were also tailgating at their cars for lunch. Parking is $40. From what I saw, Ice Cream was $15, Turkey Legs were $19, Carnival games were $6 per throw (or $24 to play-to-win). It could have easily added up to hundreds of dollars for the four of us to eat, drink, and snack there.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE WASTE TO GET A PASS

By Lisa S |

We went to spend the 4th of July there for the firework show and they closed early at 8pm instead of 10pm! So after driving there just for an hour we hear on the speaker system no fireworks closing at 8. I have been coming there for 30 years or more and the park is turning to a dump! Most of the rides are closed and the landscaping is over grown and looks terrible!!!!

Six flags needs to step up

By Lindsay C |

Most of the reviews are spot on. We thought this was the best of the 3 parks we’ve been to but the bar is set quite low. I guess we got lucky that many of the rides remained open on our day. The wait times do not match with the app at all. I hope this new merger can get these parks on track because we definitely won’t be renewing our pass. As for food - this park at least at decent choices but, agreeing with others, if you’re going to charge Disney prices six flags better step up, A LOT.

Please please please consider making the pass benefits and rules consistent across parks. We have previously been to 2 parks where we showed our diamond pass and parked in the preferred lot, as is promised with our pass. When we arrived at great America, we were turned away from preferred parking because we hadn’t made a reservation 2 days in advance. I can not find one thing on the website or app that says we are required to make a reservation.

There seems to be no less than 3 different websites where passholders are supposed to create logins. Yet none of this is explained and none of this is mentioned in the app. So at every park we end up wasting time at guest services with someone finding our information, the staff being confused as well. The passes are supposed to be a benefit, and the price should ensure passholders can access those benefits without confusion on the part of the passholder AND the staff. Seems the best place to find somewhat accurate info is on Reddit

Dirty, half the rides closed, waste of time and a lot of money

By Gerad V |

This place is a money suck. Not concerned with providing an entertaining experience for anyone. Half the rides are closed or not operating fully. I remember when this place used to be a business that offered an affordable fun day for a family or for groups. Those days are long gone! Definitely avoid coming here even if you like yourself just a little.

The season flash pass

By Tim M |

I am a season pass holder . We are talking about getting the flash pass for all season to . What is the add fee to a one person to your season flash pass.

Flash pass not worth it...

By Winston C |

Have spent the past 2 hours waiting in line to pick up flash pass after buying it on line and I'm not half way thru this line. Save ur money. Flash pass is not worth it.

Sunday Funday!

By MarthaWK |

Overall I would like to give 4.5 stars so I will round up... The ride lines were pretty good for an amusement park. The food lines though are a waste of time/too long. Food was typical amusement park caliber & price. The park was over all clean & the staff was nice. We will be back next year!

Awesome

By Chris Kennedy |

Lots of family friendly entertainment for everyone in the whole family there is a little something for everyone at six flags

For the coaster enthusiast

By Wade |

This park has more coasters than you can ride in a day. Coasters for kids, adults; indoor coasters, outdoor coasters. Coasters that dangle your feet, coasters that have spinning seats. Fast coasters, slow coasters; steel coasters, wood coasters. They have roller coasters.

2022 passes are a good thing but here’s what I think will make the park better after that being said

By Laura W |

I just want to say that I get why people are mad at the prices. I realize you guys are butt hurt, but this price increase is for the benefit of the park, not the people who run the park but the actual park. Anyone who really has a passion for amusement and thrill life will appreciate this price increase and pay for it anyway. Every review keeps saying it isn’t a good deal but the thing is it is a good deal. Some people don’t like paying month to month so those people never got membership perks. It does save you money these new passes, it saves you a lot of money, just not an insane amount like the memberships were.
I will say this though: I think 6 flags should provide a hefty discount for families who have 4 or more people who usually get season passes each year in their family. The guy talking about passes for his family has a point 6 flags. It’s a great thing, have people prove they are a family and make a group discount like 50% off or something to make it affordable but only for families and trust me 6 flags you want to accommodate them because their children are your future and what makes your park strong.

Fun fun 🤩

By Markeba R |

My kids love one here I had to get them a membership because I was using so much money can I come every other weekend so now we come all the time we love going on the rides over and over and we love using the flash pass I really enjoy seeing them having fun in the park

Fright Fest!

By KAH30 |

First time visiting Six Flags in many years. I was pleasantly surprised. Clean park, excellent (albeit PRICEY) food, fun rides, and Fright Fest was AWESOME! Definitely the best part of our visit!

Pleasant Family Experience

By greathautdoors |

I felt the need to leave a positive review of Six Flags after our visit yesterday. Our group of 10 (3 adults and 7 kids ages 10 to 16) bought day passes online a few weeks prior to our visit. The price was MUCH less than I ever remembered paying for normal day passes which was refreshing!

The park opened at 10:30 am yesterday, we arrived at around 10:00 am and parked close to the front gate. The closest that we had ever parked. We never waited in a line to get in. Just walked right up to the gate and got in. As soon as the rides opened, we started knocking off all of the BIG thrill rides with very short wait lines. The longest wait we had all day was about 30 mins for Goliath.....we figured that the crowds would be coming, but they never did. We have never gone on so many big coasters in one day. It was refreshing!

Our expectations were low coming into yesterday as we had heard that rides were not all going and that some attractions just weren't happening. The food does cost an awful lot, so we plan ahead and pack a cooler. We get our hands stamped and go to the car to cool off and eat, taking a well needed rest.

It is apparent that the park is understaffed. Sad, but this is the case in every business across the country. I pray that people will go back to work and bring back our businesses to the way they were. With this being said, we still enjoyed a tremendous day at this park. They are doing the best that they can with the hand that they have been dealt.

Some take aways from the day..............people were friendly and happy to be there. NO issues with unfriendly people. We did experience some line jumpers. Nothing we could do about that, although my kids had wished that I would have done something about it! Also, given that the park is open during this Covid pandemic, they did not have many of their hand sanitizer dispensers filled which was quite frustrating. The majority of dispensers that we tried to use were empty.

The majority of the big thrill rides were open and running, giving us a blast of a day at the park. We WILL be back again and hope that we can have another great day as we did yesterday!

to much money for a broken-down park !!!

By joe |

it was horrible at six flags !!! none of the fans wer working on a hot hot day !!! everything looked as if it hasent been maintained for years ... way to expensive to buy water wont let you bring in water and food was bad and way to expensive ... just down right miserable not worth the money you pay to get in the park!!

Hurricane Harbor June 2022, membership info

By Cherylice |

Just a Hurricane Harbor update for people with memberships... the reserved seating for members is located in the worst area of the water park, farthest walking distance. This area used to be used only when the park was at maximum capacity, its a further walk from behind the bathroom by the wave pool. The check in area is still in the same location, but the new, blue padded chairs directly in front of the wave pool are now for sale, 2 chairs for $25, members are not allowed to use them.

One more thing, the online ordering for food is hit or miss. When I first arrived, only one of my kids meal passes showed up on the app. So prepare to wait in line to order food. We decided to go into the park and all of the meal plans worked great. No need to wait in line there. Food was great too.

Forgot to mention, the entrance for members is a bit quicker now, they had an employee standing in a short line to the right of the regular line entrance checking people for memberships, so that was a nice perk.

Filthy and Wayyy understaffed.

By Daniela N |

I visited this park as a kid in the 80s, as a teen in the 90s, and as an adult in the early 2000s. Had not been back since then until today. The park is extremely understaffed. We waited 90 min to get food. The food itself was overpriced and terrible. There used to be employees dressed as Loony Tunes characters walking around the park. Not anymore. The park seemed a lot cleaner and more vibrant when I visited years ago. I put my kids straight in the bath when we got home because they were so filthy.

Great America not so much

By BAB0821 |

Mooseburger Lodge is $15 for a hamburger (unclear if it’s partially soy) and waffle fries (good). Understaffed, slow, grouchy employees. $5 bottle of water . I expect to pay more at these places but burger needs to be high quality.
Slice of pizza and fries $15. Pretzel $9. Chicken fingers and fries $15.
Everything needs a coat of paint and or a good scrubbing. Bathrooms could be cleaner. Only have to go once a year. As you wait for the rides, you can see how grungy it is. Don’t wear light colored clothes!

Omar Brown is the best employee at Six Flags!!

Omar Brown is an all star employee! I cannot express enough how professional and kind he was in a moment of distress. Lines too long - bad Fast Pass experience!

By Alison S |

We are Six Flags members and have visited 7 Six Flags parks. Great America (why don't they just call it Six Flags Chicago?) has a lot of good thrill rides/roller coasters compared to other parks. However, we had 2 huge disappointments. First, the water park line was out of control. It was so long so early that we took one look and decided not to even try. We did come back out of the main park to try again later in the day and it was still just as long. Either they are not letting people in very fast or there is a SERIOUS need for more water parks in this area due to demand. Granted, it was a hot day but waiting hours just to get in followed by ridiculous lines for all the water rides? No thanks. Second, I have a huge problem with how they handled Fast Pass on some rides. My daughter and I waited for 2 HOURS in line for Goliath (line wasn't that long). When we finally got up to the front to ascend the steps we saw the employee was letting every Fast Pass person on immediately with very few (or sometimes none) regular riders. It took us 45 min to move 10 feet. This is unacceptable! I have a good job and could buy Fast Passes but I have a fundamental problem with the concept and refuse to support it. I would feel guilty basically "jumping line" because I pay extra. It's just wrong. If I buy theme park tickets I should not have my experience ruined by people who choose to spend their money on this. Fast Passers bug me on all rides but how it was done on the Goliath was over the top and really made it not fun. Six Flags take note - you can't pay the bills just on your Fast Pass sales - make sure to take care of the regular ticket purchasers as well!

WASTE OF MONEY

By Jessica H |

Spent $140 on a dining pass, doesn’t even include funnel cakes or beignets BIG waste of money. Not to mention $125 for a Diamond pass and you only get 4 fast passes for the WHOLE SEASON. Big waste of money in my opinion. Just wanted a snack and I will be getting a refund.

Fantastic!!!

By Sammie Medonic |

Six flags was absolutely amazing especially if your children and you can ride most the rides. Even at the end of the season with shortstop problems they had every ride going or at least every ride going throughout the day. The rights were great. However hurricane harbor which is their water park is anything but great half the water park was open and they kept shutting rides down. We have season passes to six flags to come back and we will definitely be back. I also advised buying the season soda fountain cup to get unlimited drinks while you're there it's worth it as well as the season passes are very cheap $10 a month.

Exceptional

By Douglas A |

Holiday in the Park Drive Thru is a must see. Millions of lights and happy dancing Characters throughout. Stop along the way and purchase food and drink like Funnel Cakes and Hot Chocolate. There is music in the park or scan their QR Code. What a fun family treat for anyone loving the seasons spirit. (Things to see on both sides of the car too.)

Never again I will purchase a season pass

By Adam R |

Everything was going well until a security guard asked me to put my backpack, which has wheels, on my back. I calmly explained to him that my back hurts, which is why I'm not carrying it, and that my backpack has wheels. I've been to many other parks and have never, ever, ever been asked to carry my backpack.

He rudely told me it was a rule to wear it. I told him I was going to customer service to explain.

Of course, my child was in a ride, so I had to wait.

I saw another security guard, #2, and I went to ask her about the rule, which I didn't see in their website. She told me her boss had asked her about it, but she'd never seen it as such. The other security guard, #1, came rushing towards me, talking into his radio, saying he'd just seen me still rolling with my backpack.

I explained to him that I hadn't even taken 10 steps to go see the other security guard, #2. He rudely told me again that I had to stop or he'd escort me out of the park. I asked to speak to his supervisor.

He arrived, and I didn't even have time to explain that he jumped on me, asking, "What are you still rolling your backpack around?" I saw my employee tell you earlier.

I stayed calm. And I tried to explain that it was because my back hurt.

He didn't want to hear of it. He also told me he would escort me out of the park if I didn't stop.

All this happened in front of people. Lots of people. I was ashamed. I was humiliated. I felt like a criminal. And for what????? For a backpack??????

What's the difference between my mini backpack and a wagon where children sit, or even a children's stroller ?????? I'm not hurting anyone.

Membership problems

By mastergravis |

Watch out if you have a membership. If there is a problem with your credit card ie: expired, they will not tell you. Instead they will just send you to collections. After complaining to customer service they send they sent out emails but out of all the emails I have from six flags dating back as far as 2012 there was none about any missed payments. DO NOT BUY THE MEMBERSHIP!

A Stormy Experience but still with plus points

By Tony B |

We visited the park from the UK on 18th August. The first shock was the $35 parking charge, this is more than Disney charge. More worrying however was the fact that the person taking the charge for parking disappeared into his booth with my credit card and took the payment with the card both out of my possession and sight. This might have been nothing sinister but in terms of cyber security and card protection it is a no no. I have frozen the cats as a precaution.
Entering the park was a long and slow process simply for the time it was taking to scan barcodes using the staff mobile app, the scanner didn't always register the first time.
We managed to get three rides in before all major attractions shut down due to weather. This can't be helped, of course but it was extremely disappointing.
We were left to use our pre purchased dining and drink bundle which caused us some confusion. The ticket terms started the every 90 minutes we could get an entrée and a side, first stop was ChopSix where we informed that we could have the rice bowl entrée but not the side. Ok, not that bothered, the rice bowl was sufficient. After this we used the Six Flags app to filter on the map for places were the dining pass could be used, this left 33 options. Unfortunately, a lot of the displayed options were not suitable as many were considered as desserts, and not meals, so chargeable separately. It would have been nice if the meal outlet clearly showed on their menus what items, if any could be included in a meal pass. This is a failing of the app. Other failings are the new ride not being on the map, every navigation away from the map meant that the filters reset to the default options not those set before clicking away to look at menus etc. The app also crashed a few times, and once had me in the water park next door, even though the GPS clearly showed me in the centre of the main park. Niggles? Yes. Iirritations? Yes. Show stoppers? No.
Theme parks should always be rated on the quality of the rides as the main measure of the overall experience. In this case we simply didn't experience enough rides to call the day a success. At a total cost of over $100 per person, without an option to come back if weather stops play. As it was the rides stopped around 15:00 and the park closed officially at 18:30, in truth most things had closed well before the final bell.
In summary, it was a disappointing day but likely if more of the park had been available to us I could have given a better appraisal. Sky Striker was pretty awesome.

Water park has problems (hopefully temporary)

By Zack K |

This review is specifically for Hurricane Harbor. We visited on Wednesday, July 28th 2021. It was mostly sunny and near 90 degrees. This was our only visit to Hurricane Harbor; so, I have no idea how busy it was relative to a typical day.

The main issue is that there weren't enough staff in the the park to handle the number of guests, so the lines were too long for our teens to have much fun.

Most of the attractions in the park are simply larger versions of similar attractions at Great Wolf Lodge; but, at Great Wolf, wait times mid-week are rarely over 10 minutes (in our experience), whereas wait times here were 30 minutes minimum. Our boys had no interest in waiting 30+ minutes for a ride that isn't substantially better than what they can get elsewhere.

There are a few rides that are much bigger/better than Great Wolf; but, the lines for those were well over an hour. At Tsunami surge, you had to get in a 45 minute line on the ground just to get a tube. I have no idea what the additional wait was once you got in line on the stairs!

Worse yet, in most cases, there didn't appear to be a good reason for the lines to be that long. In three different places, there are four slides that all begin at the top of the same platform. At the top, there was only one attendant sending one tube down at a time. They should have been able to have at least two tubes going at once, possibly even four (one per slide). Near the entrance, there are four "drop" slides. Each slide has its own "run out", so all four could be safely used at once; but, one person was sending one rider down at a time. It took 45 minutes to get through a line that only extended down one flight of stairs.

I assume these issues primarily stem from difficulty to find employees during summer 2021. I'm not sure what the right solution is. One obvious option is to limit the number of people in the park; but, I understand why that may be problematic given their promotion on season passes.

The wave pool has a lot of potential; but, it was so crowded you couldn't really play in the waves without bumping into people.

After our experience, I doubt I will ever buy a single-day ticket to Hurricane Harbor (here or anywhere else). We had season passes, so it wasn't a big deal to give up after a few hours and go back to Six Flags; but, had we bought single-day tickets we would have been *extremely* disappointed.

To be fair, I will say that the Wahoo Racer (the "mat slides") were a lot of fun and not that crowded.

Disappointing first use of prestige pass

By Terri |

This was our first day of the summer using our prestige season pass. We started in line for my son’s choice, Superman. Posted 15 minutes. After 40 minutes waiting it shut down. We left the line to get our season Souvenir cup at a line with no customers. The two girls chatted about who would help us. After finally filling the cup, she said it may not work so take your receipt in case they did it wrong. Then we went to Goliath posted wait 20. We waited over an hour because of only one train running (I expected better this year since it’s now a Cedar Fair park and we’re LONG time visitors to Sandusky where the park is beautiful and run so well.) After Goliath, we saw a posted 60 minutes for the new Wrath, but when we arrived we were told it wasn’t running and couldn’t get in line. So we went to X flight. Waited 30 minutes. As we finally approached the station, we were told the park had power issues and they would need to wait for maintenance. Over three hours in the park waiting in lines for ONE ride. My son was so disappointed he asked to leave. Overall disappointing. As “Coaster Enthusiasts” who travel around the country, I really hoped our home park would finally get it together. Still poorly run and dirty. Wrath looked cool, but it didn’t run much of the time we were there to see it.

Holiday in the Park Lights -- very good!

By resourcesaver |

The park is incredibly well lit up with lights -- but static and animated to music. Really stunning. Not too crowded (at least when we went). They had many shows (wish we saw more) and characters in costume (Scrooge was great!!!!). Only downside: food prices. $14.99 for a hamburger? $8.79 for cotton candy?

A place where you can do things

By mysteryeggsandwich |

I like this place because I can do things here. I saw that they have restrooms so I think if you need one while you are here, you could use them. But usually when you would be here, it is really hot and you will sweat a lot so you might not need a restroom. But they have some in case you do not sweat a lot or in case you had a bad meal the night before. When you are here, you should try to do things like I did because I think that would make you happy, and if you need a restroom, I guess you should use one of them on the property because you might miss out on doing things if you left to find one somewhere else and then came back.

Good Times

By douglas m |

We had a great time at Six Flags over Great America. We arrived before opening on Labor Day. The traffic on the express way was light for Chicago and getting into the park was easy with direct entrance into the parking lot .

Overall a great couple of days

By electroglidekid |

Visiting mid week during August before the park changes to weekend only I thought we'd be queuing for quite a few rides, but luckily the park was very quiet, the odd 20 minute wait but nothing more, some you could even go round again if there was no one waiting in line! A good mix of new and old rides, I bought a 4 meal deal pass which was good value as you can use it in Hurricane Harbour also.. Most of the rides were open at some point in the day.. Hurricane Harbour though not so great, Skull Island and Tsunami Surge closed, maybe short on staff? But the rides we got on were great..

Thrilling and Fun Experience

By RTR |

I really enjoyed the time that I spent here. Me and my sister both opted not to buy the Express passes and were able to get in 13 coaster rides in during the 7 hours that we spent there.

My advice to prospective visitors would be to get to the front gates of the park at least 45 minutes prior to the opening. You can knock out lots of rides during those first 30 minutes when the mob of people is still trying to enter into the park.

Surprisingly, the quality of the lunch we ate was excellent. We went to a BBQ place within the restruant with a great baked mac & cheese and smoked brisket.

The rides themselves are excellent. Lots of thrilling ones throughout the whole park. The Raging Bull and Goliath were my favorite of all.

Park sanitation could be improved. Locations like Dollywood and Disney put great care into this and it shows. Additionally, wait times in the app should not be trusted entirely. We waited longer several times than the wait time, but also experienced the opposite as well.

Your experience will be 10× better here if you show up early and commit to a plan for the day. It's very possible to ride everything you'd like within the hours of operation.

Excellent customer service fun for everyone

Six Flags Great America is my happy place

By SOS T |

I love going to Six Flags Great America. I’ve been to this awesome theme park a number of times. This is probably my favorite theme park to go to. I love riding all my favorite roller coasters at SFGA. My favorite roller coasters to ride are X-Flight, Raging Bull, Maxx Force, the Whizzer & Goliath. I can’t wait to go back to next month.

Fun, overpriced, understaffed

By Karebear2064 |

Love the rides, not the steep prices for mediocre accommodations. I do not mind paying for great things. Park has always been expensive, but they do not keep up with things like they once did.
Purchased refillable cut for around $20, long lines to get refilled, self service drinks were ALL out, NO ice & it was a hot day.
Lots of garbage & food on the ground, they used to have people constantly walking around sweeping.
Bathrooms were very damp, stinky and just dirty.
Makes me sad that it has gone downhill. My family loves rides, but not sure it is worth the trip so much anymore.

Six Flags, fix your operation system online.

By Anna R |

The park needs to have a more organized Lost and Found organization. Not being able to help look or call an operator during these times when valuables are lost is very disappointing. Not only that, but having a weak staff team to even look for it in the first place is absolutely appalling.

2022 Gurnee Great America Prices Are Ridiculous!

By Katie G |

2022 prices are ridiculous! Passes are overpriced, and now since the dining passes are no longer, there are not any good options. I never thought I’d say we would not be getting a pass, since I’ve had passes every year for everyone in our family, for the past 10 years. Very disappointing Great America, Gurnee!

Need to step up your game

By lovetheopenroad2016 |

I thought at the end of last year some money was going to be invested into the park. It doesn’t look like it, in fact the upkeep was bad. I find it hard to believe that someone couldn’t take a pressure washer and clean the town square with the train. Remove some of the weeds. A fresh coat of paint would have done wonders. Looks like a run down old neighborhood

Great Rollercoasters

By Ashley O |

You go to Six Flags for the coasters, and they have a lot on offer here.

As with every park, there are a couple of them that are not worth the wait time *cough* Dark Knight Ride.

Day was let down by poor quality of service for food, was overpriced, extremely greasy and staff could do with actually speaking instead of mumbling. Think it was called Big Lou's or something similar, so avoid that place.

Rollercoasters though were amazing, loved them all, would defy go again.

We'll always be back

By Joseph |

Fright Fest! I wrote a review last year so not much to add. Again, my tip is to get in early and get to the back. For the second year, we were on Goliath immediately. Same with the Eagle, Viper and short wait for Raging Bull. We waited a bit for Batman (20 min). People hit Superman quickly, so wait gets long later. G-Force is same way. We stay overnight, and the second day we hit Superman (first and were on the first coaster), then over to Joker (about 10 min wait) and finish with X-Flight (waited about 10 min for first row). This is about an hour in and G-Force is already past 30 min and even Whizzer is at 20-25 minutes). FOOD: Choose wisely. We had decent chicken from Strutters last year. Johnny Rockets burgers are waaaay better than ThrillBurger in Food Court. Pizza is mediocre. Not adventurous to try anything else. ENTERTAINMENT: It's good. Shows don't change much year-to-year. The Ringmaster's Cabaret is a pretty good show. Scare Zones are fun; however, WATCH OUT FOR THE KIDS! They get "scared" and start running from the actors and will just run you over. Always an issue. HAUNTED HOUSES: They're okay. Sometimes more of a scenery visit than getting scared. Lines can get long so Express Entry may be worth it. We always do that. THOUGHTS: Wish the food & drink weren't so darn expensive. Just crazy to pay $14 for slice of pizza, $15-16 for a beer/drink. Also, many thanks to all the Jamaican workers at the park!

Dead Inside

By Matthew Miller |

For being in the Midwest coming off of the Coronavirus pandemic, there is not much else to do. That is why my family and I thought it would be a good idea to retry the idea of Six Flags and give it another try. We purchased Six Flags Diamond Elite Memberships so we could try to have some fun during the summer. However, this place is really going downhill in most areas compared to years ago that I will get to later. The place is not clean whatsoever, the service is incredibly bad, and the value for money is also not good.

First up, cleanliness. I saw out in the parking lot that Six Flags is supposed to be the "cleanest park in America". They really have that wrong. After being at Disneyland a few years ago, Six Flags has definitely fallen behind in comparison to other amusement parks, and fast. One of the biggest cleanliness issues is that there is a strong smell of Marijuana lurking throughout the park in some areas. This is supposed to be a family park, enforce the rules on no smoking of anything! On top of that, when you are sitting down and wanting to eat the meal that you bought, none of the tables are clean, ever. They are always dirty.
My Rating for this Category: 1/5

Next, the service. Where do I even begin with this? No one here has any personality, it's like everyone got one hour of sleep that night and did not want to help absolutely anyone. My family went to go fill our drink bottles that come with our membership and all the lady asked us was "drink?" as in what type we wanted. The whole time we were filling up the bottles she looked at us with mean eyes as if we were inconveniencing her. Anytime we ask why the process of everything is moving slow or things are low quality/dirty, the staff always blame it on understaffing. At this point, they have been saying that for years so it is becoming a lousy excuse. There was one girl named Sierra that worked at the photo station at the entrance that was very nice.
My Rating for this Category: 1/5

Finally is the value for your money. This place has horrible value for your money, specifically if you have a high-up membership. When you pay for a membership, you can get up to two free "skip the line passes" per visit. That sounds great on paper but have fun actually trying to get them. These aren't passes that are loaded onto your phone or are handed to you at entry, you actually have to go up to the "Flashpass Headquarters" and wait up to three hours or more to get them. At this point, what is the point of even paying for the memberships when you'll just be waiting in line for half of your visit? On the brighter side, I 100% recommend the food pass. It is definitely worth it and you do get a wide array of options to choose from every visit.
My Rating for this Category: 2/5

We will be having these passes for the next eleven months. You do need to sign a one-year contract when you purchase the memberships, but don't be expecting any premier service with them at all. The place is dirty, the service is terrible, and the value for money is horrible. I would only recommend Six Flags Great America anymore to people that like people with bad personalities, the smell of Marijuana commonly, and want bad value for their money.

The Bowels of HELL!!

By Chris G |

Like all the negative reviews already explain what was once a great park is now a living hell. Lines that are insane even to get the actual fast pass. The food lines I mean seriously just forget that. You will literally spend your whole day in line and that’s all. To get into the park alone will probably take you an hour or so. I have been to most theme parks pre and post COVID and honestly can say your going to waste your money on this place and that’s what there counting on.

Lots of fun.

By Dinah662013 |

I was pleasantly surprised as I wasn't looking forward to this trip with my son and grandson. I would for sure recommend buying the express passes as we had little or no wait time for rides. The food was too expensive!

Plenty of rides for all

By Gordon G |

More bang for your buck than Disney. Several new rides and old ones give you enough options. My kids loved it, went on Monday and walked on most of the rides we wanted. Been 20 yrs since I've been there, I got a headache on some coasters though I am getting older and maybe my brain can't handle it. Food was pricey like Disney but it was pretty decent tasting, had to ask for a straw and ketchup where we ate, not sure why they don't have this stuff out. Staff could've been a little more attentive in spots. And the meal didn't include a drink, that was $6 extra... I liked the new sports bar, ice cold beer on tap. It's nice they have some areas to fill cold water into bottles fore free, Disney only had warm tap water so all in all this was a better time and so much cheaper than Disneyworld. We're only 30 min from Wisconsin so that's a treat. The water spray mists were still running also so that's awesome on a hot day. Wish they'd get the roaring rapids back up though. You can nitpick some things but for all the rides they have, bottom line this is fun place still.

Took My 8 and 9 Year Old, Very Good Experience

By Natalie R |

Very Good Experience, It was My Kid's First Time Going, I purchased Our Tickets Online, Along with the Parking Pass. Entering the Park was Quick and Easy, No Hassle. Love How they have the Bathroom Outside of the Gates, After Traveling for 1.5 Hours this was VERY Convenient. Each Ride has a Height Requirement Board, Which is Awesome so you don't Waste any Time in Line for Rides "Younger" Guests won't be able to Ride On. Food was a Bit Pricey, 2 Slices of Pizza, 2 Orders of Fries, Chicken Tender (Qty 4 Tenders) and Fries and 2 Refillable Cups ($24.99 Each, Refill All Day) Came Out to $83.00 No Condiment Station- Which is a Real Disappointment as the Food Place Employees are Rude Anytime You ask For Ketchup Packages/Refills (Tip: Take Your Own Food/Snacks and Go Out to your Car When You're Ready to Eat) If you are Not Looking to Splurge on a Simple Lunch. Ride Hosts were Very Interactive, and I have to Say THAT was the Best Part of our Trip. In particular Hosts at Goliath/American Eagle/Yankee Clipper- Really Shined. THANK YOU. Overall Great Experience. Will For Sure be Back in the Near Future.

Excellent service

By David M J |

My favorite experience was when George over at Pizza Orleans took me and my girls order for us nearly at the very end when other vendors were closing. He was very kind and still generous enough to take care of us. If anything I will come back to his pizza spa because of him. Good service comes only once in a while from someone that works hard when they're the last person there

Veterans discounts unclear. Bring your own food, bring a locker and be extra patient

By Sandra L |

The rides are fun, but that’s what the $60 are for. The lines though are terrible, both for rides and food. I would advise you get your own snacks and meals because honestly I’ve had the worst that day! Overpriced fried everything, literally the worst food I’ve eaten during a 3 week lomg holiday in the States! And the personnel’s completely unhelpful and annoyed, I don’t think I’ve seen any of the workers smile (which makes me wonder how poorly they’re treated themselvers...)
You can’t take your belongings on the rides, unless you have a fanny pack. If you have a backpack I recommend having a locker and lock it to the wooden boxes you have to leave them into.
My wife asked for the veteran/active duty discounts and there was a little bit of a fuss (they even asked me for my military id as a spouse, ridiculous!). We woul’ve bought the discounted tickets online the day before, but there was no military discount available and the customer service over the phone said we coulnt’t do it. NICE.
Would I come back? Honestly I don’t know.

Park is closed, but no refunds given

By m b |

The park is still closed, but no refunds are being issued for 2020 season pass holders. We bought our 2020 season passes in fall 2019. Today is July 12, 2020 and the park has not yet opened. In our case, we planned to use the 2020 season pass in May and June, when we had free time. We are not able to use the pass in July or August this year. If the park opens, we cannot attend regardless. I asked for a refund, and was told no refunds were being issued. Virtually every other business has treated citizens with some compassion during the Covid crisis, but not Six Flags. They are keeping our money and not providing agreed-upon services. Yes, I understand that it was not safe to open in spring 2020 and not even now in July 2020. That's fine. But you do not get to keep the money while remaining closed. Issue refunds to those who request them!

Understaffed And has gone Downhill

By Marzena P |

Six Flags Great America in Chicago IL has definitely went down hill. I don’t know who’s in charge of decision making as far as the parks workings go but they should be fired. I took a 2 - 3 yr brake from renewing our family’s season passes cause we just weren’t happy with their park issues and new changes on their season pass value. They changed their pass value so my family and friends decided to try again. Some of us had passes while others wore buying tickets. It was to my great disappointment when we arrived last weekend for a family funday to experience a bit of fright fest as we used to. We got there to get stuck out in the parking lot cause someone thought it would be a great idea to gate in the usual entrances where you had lines for people to buy tickets then another entrance for people to enter that already had Passes and Tickets and another entrance for the people that had the hand stamped to re-enter the park in case they had to say run out to their car for something. Now EVERYONE has to enter through one exit, making the lines wrap around the park in both directions waiting forever just to get in. Not to mention NO BATHROOMS in sight till you finally get to the park. While that might not be a problem for some, for others like me with health problems and medications it becomes a big problem. I had to leave the park to use the restroom and i wasn’t going to re-enter to pay another parking fee. I left my kids there and according to them they didn’t even have all the lines open for security when they finally got past the gate. Not to mention my kids spent an extra fee of $40 for the Haunted Houses and they say they wore severally understated. And here’s another thing that this year put a ridiculous spin on the parks attractions. While every year since I was little you can walk around the park and see all the amazing decorations with moving, talking etc. features incase you didn’t want to go inside the understaffed Haunted Houses, this year they make you BUY a device that if you want to see a decorating move or talk you use it to get the full affect now. I mean come on, what do they think they are Universal Studios Harry Potter World??? Seriously !!! Understaffed, over priced and unequipped. Very disappointing.

Amazing time

I absolute love this place, my favorite ride is the justice league battle for metropolis ride. I also like the American eagle ride. There food is great, and the staff are super friendly

Never going back to Hurricane Harbor

By Mark V |

Family of 3 plus $35 parking was $157. Many waterpark rides closed, resulting in very long lines for remaining rides. Waited an hour for a ride because they only had four rafts shared between two slides that share a tower. They do not allow outside beverages, including water. Could not find one water fountain. Vending machines were empty. Paid $10.78 for two bottles of water. 90 degree heat, long lines, limited access to drinking water seems like a recipe for people getting sick from overheating. Really awful. Will never go back.

Like We Remembered

By moop6883 |

We hadn't been to this park in 20 years and came kid free to ride everything and we were impressed by the following:

-other Six Flags locations are extremely dirty, this one remains clean and extremely family friendly. It's a beautiful well-maintained park.

-everything is taken so seriously-security, line jumping, ride safety, dress code, etc.

-normally ride operators feel dead inside, but the kids on the microphone had cute quippy things to say and were pleasant to deal with. Those are hard hot grueling jobs at times and everyone seemed to somewhat enjoy what they were doing.

We were not as impressed by:

-you don't go to a theme park to dine well, but there used to be a few decent options. A nice Mexican restaurant near the Giant Drop was replaced by only nacho fries and the homestyle chicken place I'm sure is long gone. We tried the BBQ indoor restaurant and it was relatively disgusting, but again, to be expected.

-the indoor rides were both a bust. You can't make people wait in long lines for those out of date experiences.

-we thought we were going during a busy week, but not all food stands were open. This felt strange.

Can't come in, full

By Greg S |

Gave zero stars. paid $300 total admission and Fright Fest drove 2 an half hours only to be told no at capacity can't come in. Nothing about getting my money back. Can I get my money back?

Seniors not important here and don't believe the rules.

By Diane S |

I am 74 years old and AARP should investigate this park. There are no elderly tickets and God knows I am not riding the rides. The site says: NO wagons, water, water borrles, food, snacks or Igloos. They state this is strictly enforced. We followed the rules and the other 90% of the attendees had full force of food and drink. Meanwhile I died of thirst and was stuck eating bad for me food. There was very little assistance when after 9 hours I couldn't walk. This park is NOT senior friendly. Bad, bad experience. I ended up dehydrated and sick.

Fast Pass WORTH every penny......Fun Day on Rides....Customer Service was another story.....

By Andrew |

** Went to Six Flags Gurnee, IL
** 45 yrs old & 13 yrs old
** Perfect 72 degree weather.
** Rides were fun and seem to be a good mix. Perfect for 13 yr old.
** Fast Pass seems expensive but it was worth every penny. Didn't wait more than 10 mins for a ride. I bet we rode at least 3 to 4 times more the rides anyone without a Fast Pass.
** Food & Beverage quality was not great.
** Food & Beverage prices were absurd. $5.50 for a standard bottle of water.
** Food & Beverage service was HORRIBLE.

Sixflags needs to update their online ticket purchasing!!

By Mari |

We got there around 6:30 pm and they open at 5pm. They did not let us in due to over capacity.

The reason for the one star is we bought day tickets that SAME day like an hour before online. Six flags allows you to purchase them even if they are over capacity. Instead of blocking out the day like other places do (letting you know they are sold out/at capacity).
There is so much technology they can send out an alert letting us know they are at capacity or SOLD OUT for the day. I just think it’s ridiculous being in 2021. Update the website hourly, send out an email, text alert.

Neglected & Overpriced

By Brooke |

It seems this place has gown downhill and is charging for more. I could not believe that parking was $40 plus tax. The weeds and landscaping were really bad. The park looks like it has been neglected. If they aren’t trying to keep the things that customers see clean, I can’t imagine what they don’t keep up with behind the scenes. I feel pretty ripped off. That being said, we enjoyed a couple of the roller coasters. We had a good time. The place is just way overpriced and is not taken care of like it used to be.

They've made Great America Great Again

By Jeffjohnsn |

I visited the park once annually as a child and remember those as some of my favorite summer days. As I young adult I was at the park twice, maybe 20 years ago and again 10 or so years ago. Both times the crowd appeared somewhat dangerous and the culture and cleanliness of the park radically different than my youth memories. Despite this my kids earned vouchers from a school reading program and we gave it a go yesterday with a work break and good weather. SO GLAD we did! Kids had a blast, I revisited nostalgic rides and we tried new ones. Park was pretty clean, crowd was courteous and not too big. We did 15+ rides, 6 coasters for the day.

Food of course cost double a restaurant's normal pricing but was decent, which is better than I expected. And why charge for the go carts? Are they any more costly to operate than other rides? Staying clear of the add ons (other than food) actually made me feel like we got a decent value compared with Disneyworld, Legoland etc.

We'll definitely go back and consider multiple trips to make a pass or meal package a better value than one day admissions and a la carte dining.

Great Family Fun

By TripleB718 |

I had not been to Great America in 20 years. Of course, many changes have occurred since then, as they should. I really like a lot of the new coasters they put in. The different areas, such as Southwest Territory, Mardi Gras, and DC etc. add a lot of flavor. With the exception of Southwest Territory, where there was no music playing, each section has great music to add to the ambiance. I went on a Saturday in June, expecting it to be packed, yet, there were very few people in comparison to years past.

The upkeep on the newer rides is amazing, but the upkeep on the older ones, well, you can tell that Six Flags stopped caring. Paint chipped, TVs that were either off, or not connected. I think 20% of the attractions were closed....on a Saturday as well. While we love everything new, we do still come for our childhood favorites, and it would be nice to see some care taken by the company.

Now, if your family is not one of thrill seekers, you can still have an excellent time. Rides such as The Lobster and Condor offer alternative fun. This is definitely a great place for everybody. If you buy early, park ticket prices are not that bad. Bring a lunch, as with any amusement park, food prices are nowhere near worth the quality you get.

One thing Six Flags needs to do is allow season pass holders access to both the amusement park and Hurricane Harbor. It is sickening corporate greed having to have separate passes for each, especially those that share a parking lot.

fantastic rollercoasters heaven on earth.the only bummer is the park isnt accepting cash!great america is the best since 1976!

It was totally epic.

Six flags great america was easily my #1 favorite theme park! The roller coasters were insane and I would go there again in a heart beat.

VIP pass is a must

By Jan_Bergendahl |

I think this review is directly associated if you did buy the Flash Pass or not!
Without it it would have been horrible.. We bought the Platinum and are happy we did.. 0-4 minutes wait and went crazy from morning to evening. After completing all the rides we just picked the cherries and jumped on the ones we liked a little extra.
A long exhausting day FULL of kicks... Without Flash pass I wouldn't even go!

Season passes are the way to go!

By G4899HOmarkg |

If you plan on going more than once a year, season passes are the way to go. It's not much more than a single day ticket if you buy the year prior, and it gives you parking and the freedom to go anytime. And if you plan to go more than 3-4 times, the meal plan is a good deal too. I recommend getting the basic plan that comes with a meal and a snack. I am a pretty big eater and am never hungry on that plan.

Great time. Went with my son and his girlfriend while I was visiting them in Chicago. We went Sunday October 6 and fright fest was going on. That was an absolutely amazing experience! The fright fest is no joke! Very well done.

16 yr SFGA season passholder ....but no more

By musiclvr66 |

We visited the park on 7/18 and this was our first visit to Great America in a year and a half (park was closed all of 2020) and to see the park in it's current state is beyond depressing. I don't need to go into details, just read the recent one star reviews. Those people do a great job explaining what you will be experiencing.

We have had season passes for Great America for 16 years straight and enjoyed many of those years with my kids at the park. But once this year is over, I will not be getting season passes again.

We also have season passes to Cedar Fair and have already been to Kings Island this year, which was clean, and pretty well staffed, and will be heading to Cedar Point soon. Yes, it's a 6 hour drive from the Chicago/Milwaukee area, plus hotel, but at least the experience at the park will be more enjoyable.

Horrific

By WILLIAM M |

On July 11th, I took my family to the company outing at the Gurnee, IL facility of Six Flags. It was one of the worse experiences I've had next to Michigan Adventure, which I attended this year as well. The worst part of the experience was with guest relations. It was pathetic and the managerial staff, Tess, was one of the most uncooperative, unreasonable, misinformed, ignorant and rude people I've recently met. The park was understaffed, dirty, overpriced and most of the staff members were clueless. Now I know that the Great America fanchise hires summer help on J-1 visas for foreign students in the hospitality field. Did they not apply this season? Where were the staff members? Why were rides closed. Why weren't soap dispenser and paper towels refilled. Why was the park dirty? Why do you close a park earlier than the posted hours? Why don't you train your staff properly to service the people who pay exorbitant prices for goods and services?
I was forced to pay for passes to Hurricane Harbor when it clearly stated our company had access to the water park. Then they decided to close the water park early and not inform people that they couldn't use the passes they paid for.
Then basically tell you to take what they give you or get nothing when a refund was requested. Now I've called the corporate number three times and have yet to receive a return call to address my complaint. Buyer beware!

Great rides, hit or miss food and service

By Cheryl J |

There was some good and some bad. Overall, a fun park and we would go again but compared to competitors it just gets an average rating. We got the all day dining which comes with a refillable cup. Our first stop for coke was out at the machine. There was another machine there but not sure if it wasn't turned on or if the person just didn't want to walk to that one to get a coke. The next coke was flat (we dumped it). The 3rd attempt the whole soda machine was down. We did finally get a coke later in the day. Employees were hit or miss on friendliness. The Max Force (first ride of the day) employee appeared incredibly annoyed that we asked to wait for the front car (we didn't). All other ride employees were friendly. Several other food or drink employees seemed bothered they had to work. However, the chicken place people were top notch, fast workers and friendly. As a bonus it was the best meal at the park! The sandwich people were also A+ on friendliness and service, too bad the sandwiches were stale with hardly any meat. Also disappointed there were no shows for the day. We understand on less busy days not having any shows but none was a bummer. Due to weather the park closed at 7. Weather is uncontrollable but we were having fun with the bumper cars, the shoot ride, the indoor coaster and riding the train so the weather didn't bother us. We would have stayed longer on those rides and eaten one more time on our all day dining despite the weather. On the plus side all the rides seemed very well maintained and the coasters lots of fun. It was a great day and will come back hopefully with better than "hit or miss" food and service next time!

Not Recommend Based on Proximity to Dangerous Envirnomental Carcinogen

By Rosie7070 |

Unfortunately, Great America is located near two plants that emit cancer causing gases into the air which are not addressed by the community or park (It's called EtO; google Stop Eto Lake County for info). Most visitors are unaware of this dangerous public safety hazard. I used to regularly attend Fright Fest which is fun if you're a fan of Halloween. However, since I am not a fan of cancer I plan to skip it this year.

Unbelievable lines just to get into the park.

By Teri U |

Waited 45 minutes to get into the parking lot then we were greated by the longest lines I have ever seen to get into a theme park. We stood in line for 45 minutes and weren't even half way through the line. Spoke with my teenagers and all agreed that it would be a waste of time to go in if the park was this packed. Starting to think we wasted our money on memberships now that they abandoned the reservation system.

Waste of time

By Truth |

Park does not except money as a first time goes there is no information around the entire park that says to get a card. Also parks are not reliable in transaction. All the machine they tell people to go to are in no order of use as all of them I went to did not work. Also rides are not that bad really not that scary not even from looks felt like I wasted 200 dollars coming here.

Can't wait to go back

By Carla R |

My friend and I purchased Season Passes as the price was too good to pass up. We visited Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey and America in Maryland. Great Adventure was our favorite but both parks were great! Friendly staff and Clean. I did want to mention 2 staff members who went above and beyond in Maryland. When our ride experienced a problem Eric Voelker was on spot and handled the situation professionally and safely. Also, I insisted on using the restroom by the Superman ride because it was the CLEANEST park restroom I had ever seen! Upon the one use, I made a comment to the person in the stall next to me. She introduced herself to me as a park employee and took credit for the cleanliness. Erin McCardle (sp?) She was a gem to meet!

Terrible!!!!

By James L |

Haven’t been to Great America in a few years and probably went for the last time. Terrible experience. I never saw so many rude and disgusting people in one place in my life. There were multiple dirty, bloody band aids floating in the water as well as clumps of hair and not to mention fake eyelashes in the water. The water park workers were unbelievable. Rude entitled little brats. Half of the water rides were not even up and running which was not mentioned anywhere on their website. Bought 2 park cups with soda and a piece of pizza with fries….$71.00. Never again!

Never again!

By Lucy L |

How to screw up a perfect summer day?
Go to 6 Flags!
Must be the worst experience in this world. They have perfect skills to do their ticket system up by using a UI from Ice Age. And I will never forget their horrible customer services at all! No matter where we bought the ticket online or at their ticket booth, you will always have a surprise rejection at the door:) Last halloween we bought our tickets online and they never allowed us to get into the park after 4.5hours wait at the customer service line. And over $2000 spent with nothing. Non-refundable and also non-entryway:) When this time we double confirmed with the booth manager that we will certainly get in without problem if we apply their membership. Ops, the same sh*t happen! Can’t let you in and your ticket are suspended! And also we can’t refund your membership even though you can’t get in the park... or none of our manager is available to talk to you but you still need to wait in the line for another 2 hours at 102 F(39C) and direct sunshine with no shades or air conditioner to get the response that they can’t do sh*t. Jesus Christ! The only reason they kept doing these is because they oversell their tickets and try to limit the capacity. Which is so ridiculous!!!#anti6flags

Great holiday visit to Six Flags

By JTomlinson |

Although it was really cold, we had a great time at Six Flags. Because it was Holiday in the park not all the rides were open but we knew that before we went. It was very well decorated for the holiday season.

Good Park but $$$

By avgjoey |

Visited this summer by prebuying the tickets with a form of discount. Parking is expensive add on. The park is clean and the rides are mixed with old and new school. Line management was fair but not a fan of people with money can fast pass others. Food is around and typical of these type of parks expensive, it is best to prebuy if you are going to eat. There became a storm watch and it seemed to drag on longer than necessary over 2.5 hours and most rides didn't reopen. When you come as a tourist this is the risk you take. better deal with season passes.

Long lines, unmotivated staff

By hmp2z |

We (myself, boyfriend, and 3 year old son) visited the park the first weekend in May, the second weekend they were open. I was extremely underwhelmed. The weather was beautiful and sunny, which may have contributed to the crowds. However, given the fact that attendees all need reservations, the park should have anticipated attendance and staffed appropriately. I waited in line for 25 minutes for food that I had pre-ordered. We got two drink refills, the first of which took 40 minutes and the second of which was closer to 20 minutes. Lines for food and drinks were insane, and exacerbated by the number of closed restaurants/food stands. The park needs to staff appropriate open facilities given the massive crowds, in order to manage wait times for basic necessities.
The funnel cake sundae place was staffed by a single guy who had to fry the funnel cakes, take orders and payment, and create the sundaes. I could not believe how long deceptively short lines actually were in terms of wait times, primarily because of understaffing.
Wait times for rides were much longer than they needed to be, given the policies for randomly loading only every other seat in certain rides. It really didn’t seem to make sense, given that some rides, like the little flying apples, are already quite separated. It certainly doesn’t have a scientific basis, now that MIT has done further research on social distancing policies outside. The best was when the attendants would spray disinfectant on the rides. We were near the front of the line when they did this, so we got to see how the disinfectant blew into the eyes of the guests at the front of the line. People around us were screaming that the disinfectant was burning their eyes though of course the attendant had safety goggles on. As an afterthought, after the screaming started, he commented that we may want to cover our eyes. Absolutely ridiculous. And also more pandemic theatre than anything else given what we know about covid transmission.
In all, we have a few lessons learned. We will always order food in advance, about 30 minutes before we actually want it. And we will scout out the every-other-seat rides that create huge bottlenecks. The toddler apple ride should never have been a 15 minute wait with the small number of people in line.

SPECTACULAR

Undoubtedly the best

Demon ride

By Italia199 |

I love the demon ride but this time around I had a mild concussion after riding, the bars need to be adjusted somehow where it’s not by our heads if it’s going to be so bumpy. I don’t recommend it at all until it’s fixed.

Intentional long lines

By Venus A |

Half the rides closed including lazy river. Half the open rides running on limited capacity due to staffing shortages. I get finding workers is challenging, but allowing same number of guests and crazy long lines is corporate greed!

Exhilarating Rides

By Andrew E |

Enjoyed my time here, but as a first time visitor I found the way finding signage really inadequate throughout the park.

Because I arrived as it was getting dark it was really hard to know where to go.

Having said that I would love to return here and take a couple of the rides I didn't get to.

Great rides terrible dispatch

By Brett K |

First time here and the rides me and my 15 year old son have been on are great. The problem is the dispatch times are ridiculously slow with the exception of eating bull. while sometimes it's the partygoers not following the rules for the most part it's the employees who just want to stand around and chitchat and are in no hurry whatsoever to check the restraints and launch The coasters. I will be back tomorrow and hoping for a better day. There's a reason I keep going back to cedar point. They hustle.

Six Flags Great America vs Six Flags Magic Mountain

By Lynn S |

I was in from San Diego, CA visiting and meeting some of my Cousins for the first time ever. They took me to your fine establishment.
Six Flags Great America is the winner, hands down!

biggest waste of money do not bother going to fright fest

By Melissa L |

They mislead you on there webpage saying some haunted attractions are not included while really none of them are complete bs not to mention half the rides were shut down causing the lines to be even worse. Went on two rides in the over 3 hours we were there before deciding to just leave because it was so miserable there. Then to top it off we spent about an hour and 15 min stuck in a traffic jam in the parking lot. I have never seen anything like this in my life. I will never go back just a big waste of time and your money!

Family vacation

By Nelly G |

I really enjoyed taking my two year old. She had so much fun! We are going again before leaving Illinois. They have plenty of places to eat with different kind of food. There’s also plenty of parking for everyone.

Not Orlando but still fun.

By Gary K |

This park doesn’t have the magic and wow factor as Disney or Universal, but the rides are fun for kids of all ages. I never went to the water park side so I can’t comment on that. Getting out of the park can be a major headache if you are there on the Fourth of July. The Goliath roller coaster even scared the crap out of me as an adult because there is nothing to hang onto. Great roller coasters. The kiddie part is kind of blah. The shows don’t compare to Disney or Universal and are kind of lame.

Best Six flags

By Noob meme G |

Best park I’ve ever been. The rides were smooth and enjoyable. I really enjoyed The Joker and The demon ride. I faced my fears and Because of This six flags I now like coasters. I highly recommend you to go here.

Beware purchasing tickets online!

By Claude R |

Stay far away! My son just graduated Navy boot camp this week. He wanted to go to Six Flags. We went online Thursday to buy tickets for Friday. We purchased "day passes" for Friday. Friday morning we found out that the park did't open until 5pm my son had to be back on base by 7pm. There was no message on the website when we purchased that they only had limited hours and what we purchased were not day passes as they stated. I spent an hour on chat trying to obtain a refund. I was finally told that the supervisor wouldn't refund me because park hours are available on the website. Then had the nerve to thank my son for his service! The site was misleading and I believe fraudulent. I will never give Six Flags another penny for the remainder of my life. My son shared his experience with all his ship mates as well.

It's a Crapshoot

By Anonymous |

We usually have a great time, but we do it the "right way." We have memberships, which means 50% discounts on a lot of food and merchandise. We get a Flash Pass every time, because waiting in line takes about half the day or more (no joke). You want to go on a weekday during the summer. If that's not possible, go on a Sunday. Saturday's are crazy busy. If you don't have a Flash Pass, you'll be in line for hours, literally. If you can afford it, and plan to go more than once over the summer/fall, get a membership and buy a Flash Pass. Food will be much cheaper, you get free drinks all season, and you won't spend most of your day waiting for coasters.

Overall, plan ahead. Food is expensive, so bring your own. You can leave to eat, and come back. Get a Flash Pass! Also expensive, but worth it. Don't be disappointed if it's too crowded. It's going to happen. Don't have unrealistic expectations about an amusement park. They're all pretty much the same; overpriced, crowded, long lines.

Fright fest at six flags

By judy o |

They go all out for Halloween. The decorations are spooky and amazing. The characters have incredible costumes and makeup. If you have a child with you they will not scare them. You however are fair game for all their chilling antics.

Loved It

My family and I really enjoyed the park. We will be returning soon. I recommend going when the parks first open that way it'll be less lines and less people. Overall we had a great experience.

Empty Park, Great Day!

By Fixerupperwifan |

We went to Six Flags on a Tuesday and it was so empty! The park opens at 10:30am but we followed some advice and arrived at 9:45am. We bought $30 parking online ahead of time and it was so easy to get in. Arriving that early gave us a great spot up front by the exit. We got through security about 10:10 and were let into the park early. We had bought all of our tickets online too. Googled a promo code and found a Coke code to save $21 per ticket! My kids were the only ones at some of the rides for the first hour. We did 23 rides and left the park at 4pm. We are a family of five and we bought 2 of the teal refillable cups. Totally worth the price! We refilled so many times! The etickets we printed had $2 off coupons on them too for the cups. We also did the popcorn bucket and refills on that were only 99 cents! We walked back to the car at 1pm and ate lunch. Such a great day! The only ride we did not like was Dark Knight - very rough, jerky ride.

Great day

By Wisky |

I think the key is to go on a weekday. We went in three coasters in the first hour. The new maxx force, raging bull and and Goliath. We did four more coasters over the next three hours. What a perfect day.

Amazing decorations

By LisaStgo |

I went for fright fest it was really nice the decorations were nice. The wait to get on the rides was not bad. Food is a bit expensive we brought our own food met in the parking at certain time to eat. I enjoy going to six flags during summer as I can enjoy the water park too. Overall it was a good experience.

Great America was okay.

By Jenny J |

Great America was very overpriced. Drinks were 8 dollars single and 20 dollars for unlimited soda pops. An Employee was smoking marijuana while operating the rides. It is totally unacceptable. My son enjoyed the outing but Great America isn’t how it use to be when I grew up.

Pleasantly surprised

By Mer |

My expectations were low considering it’s a Six Flags property. However, this park was clean and seemed fairly well maintained. The biggest con was the slow operations (Viper, Goliath, and Superman), but the employees were friendly. Food was pretty good and there are some decent options throughout the park. Not a park worth skipping if you’re in the area.

Hurricane harbor two thumbs down

Hurricane harbor: They charge extra for a seat at the wave pool. So your expected to stand or go in and watch your kids.

Amazing

By Matthew K |

Went to Six Flags Great America for Fright Fest totally wort the visit we went on a weekday and there was hardly any people at the park that night we rode ride after ride the only waited probably like 5 minutes for each ride. if you are planning on going to Fright Fest consider going on a weeknight avoid the weekend if possible

Excellent

By Crystal K |

Thank God for the quick actions of the staff at the Batman Ride and first aid members once I became ill! Their quick thinking allowed me to continue to enjoy the festivities with my family! I hope they get recognized in some sort of fashion. They saved me from the embarrassment of being sent to the hospital. I will forever be grateful for the staff at Six Flags in Gurnee, Illinois!!!!!

SUPER Expensive and time easily wasted.

By Ina L |

Unless you pay a super lot of money for a family to get a speed pass (which many time you still have to wait a while) get ready to wait for all the empty carts they don’t sit people in to just make you wait that much longer. I get there are safety tests.... thank you. Entrance fee is now $80.... anyway no thanks , not worth my motion sickness

Long lines, food stalls understaffed

By j v |

The lines were super long even though we arrived early. The food lines were even worse and took 1-2 hours. Dip n dots only accepts card not cash which was another 30 min wait just to find out. Ride lines became super long towards the end, 1-2 hour wait for one ride. Never again. Oh and save your money do NOT buy the meal pass or eat before hand because the food at Six Flags is atrocious.

Not a friendly place for a families with children!

By Mark K |

Dirty place with miserable employees! Definitely not a happy place! This place needs improvement all around the park . This place is dirty all around! The bathrooms are disgusting, in general buildings needs improvement, as well as rides!
Plus the employees are totally miserable! Supervisors are very rude and surely not happy to assist you with anything. Good Manners don’t exist over there!

Definitely some room for improvement

By TDDunk64 |

While most of the rides were open, the specific reason we asked about and purchased fright fest express passes was not. We were told by an employee that Saw would be open by yesterday, but sadly we were told uipon arrival that we were out of luck and maybe next week. Considering it's a 4 hour drive from us we aren't going to trek back 2 weekends in a row and pay what we paid to do it again the following weekend. Funds are not limitless for us, so it was a big deal to go this past weekend.

The other area where they are sadly lacking is allowing their guests with food allergies to be able to have anything remotely decent to eat. Yes, I do I realize we aren't going to a gourmet restaurant in the park but the "gluten free" options are SAD at best. Eat a burger with out a bun, because yeah that's exciting to a kid. Get fries that are cross contaminated and fried in the same oil as other gluten containing items but tell people they are okay to eat. Maybe for a mild food allergy but not for your guests with a medical condition (celiac disease). The food at Johhny Rocket's was ridiculous. For a hamburger patty the size of a white castle slider with cheese and what we thought was going to be lettuce wrapped but only had two flat pieces of lettuce (wilty and not close to crip) was more than disappointing. It was dry and the only thing they had to put on it was ketchup in teeny tiny packets. More disappointing. So for three pathetic patties, 2 shakes and a soft drink the bill was $88!!!!!! How is that even close to accpetable?

My husband asked where a restroom was and the kid pointed out to the park and said somewhere out there. Gee thanks, we could have figured that one out. He was just asking if there was one close.

The rides were fun and staff were helpful at most of them. NO reason to rent a locker at $1 each per ride to put your "loose" items in like purse, phone, hats, glasses. Just take them with you to the rides and put them in the cubbies that are available at each ride. Some lock while you're on your ride and others are open, but no issues with our stuff walking off with anyone else and I'm definitely not interested in spending more in addition to my admission and express for Fright fest to pay for needless lockers.

We had a 4 1/2 drive to the park, so packing food to sit all day wasn't exactly a great option but now after the $88 lunch bill for 3 and the more than lack luster food that was kind of hard to choke down I wish I had taken our own as it could not have been worse.

IF we do return and that's a big if (with so many parks doing WAY better with options), we would bring our own meals to eat while at the park. They do have larger lockers up front that you can put your items in and go back and get to have a snack or meals.

Saturday 10/19

By CKLB |

From age 5 till when I was 18 we would go to Six Flags great America once a year. I haven’t been there in probably 20 years, but I decided this year that we wanted to start a tradition with the kids. We went on Labor Day weekend. There was four of us and at the time, it seemed like a good deal to buy the season pass rather than just a single day pass as we sat in our first line for over an hour and a half. I decided to spend the money for a flash pass once again looking at the flash flash we made the decision to buy the season flash pass. overall, it was a pretty good experience. Yes, the parks a little dated, but there is a lot of roller coasters that are awesome. Our kids are young, but they like the roller coasters and the thrill rides.. This last week we decided to visit Six Flags during the fright fest we went on Saturday. We plan to take advantage of the season pass, and the flash pass. We went on Saturday and we got in line at about quarter after 11. It took over an hour and a half as we waited in line just to get through the front gates. The staff at Six Flags needs to figure this out continuously in lines and really just didn’t care about people that were being patient and waiting, this Saturday was not only the fright fest, but it was also also Oktoberfest and then it also had the kids boo fest. The second problem that we faced was that there were so many people in the park that cell service was not strong and even the Six Flags Wi-Fi wasn’t good probably because there’s so many people trying to use it and if you know anything about it is a website that relies on the Internet so there was a lot of people complaining that they couldn’t make the reservations on the flash pass because both Wi-Fi and cell service were struggling to keep up with demand. this isn’t a reflection of Six Flags, but more of a reflection of today’s people in society but when you have that many people together and nobody is patient and being polite, they’re all budding in line and talking is not appropriate makes for a bad experience. Overall, I’d like to see Six Flags figure out some of the problems that I’ve mentioned. Feel it would improve the experience. If the experience stays the same as we experienced I don’t think I would go back on fright fest again.

Reccomend if you want to have fun!!!

By Jesse |

If you want to come here with family or friends, this is the place. With endless rides, there is so much to do here. There is so many rides here it should keep you busy all day. The roller coasters are above and beyond. Probably one of the best roller coasters I've been to. I will definitely be coming back here, yes there is signs that say its the cleanest and I agree. The park is indeed very tidy and kept well updated. It's easy to get around the park, you can't really get most here because there is park maps everywhere and after you go around the park you are familiar with everything. If your looking for some theme park fun, this is it. The park does have a lot of themed areas as well.

Terrible and I got two rid 2 rides in 5 hours

By Enrique B |

Stop letting in so many people, it’s all a scam , they don’t care if you wait in line for hours . Terrible experience

Excellent food for a theme park.
Very clean and well maintained.
The dining pass is a great deal if you frequent the park!

Dirty, over crowded and understaffed

By electrical_steve |

For not being here for almost 20 years, this is not I remember the park being. The place was crowded, understaffed and dirty. I understand that covid has dropped the workforce everywhere, but how can an establishment pack the park to full capacity and have half the staff. All rides were a minimum of 2 hours long and food lines were about an hour long. Half the rides and food establishments were closed causing backups all over the park. My food for the day consisted of a bottle of pop, gummy worms and cheetoes because the gift shops were faster. For paying $55 for entrance and a $45 upgrade for the fright fest stuff, I feel I didn't get my $120 worth. Food was outrageously expensive.. forget getting a $14 miller lite. Oh and don't think about paying in cash. They are a card only establishment. Being at the park for 11 hours, I only managed to get on 4 roller coasters. The fright fest hunted houses were lame. The characters in the house just seemed exhausted and not really scary. They were just rushing you through to get the crowds under control. I dont think I will be coming back for a while. I honestly think you get a better value at the Disney parks and they max out the capacity based on staffing levels.

You get what you pay for

By greyat15 |

If you are expecting a disney or universal type experience...better adjust your expectations.

There is a reason the entry ticket is a fraction of the price.

The good:
Coasters are plentiful
Coasters are great (when operable, which is 50/50)
Flash pass now available on mobile phone (make sure it's fully charged)
Six flags app has a park map, which is highly useful

The bad:
Preferred parking is a complete ripoff. Avoid.
Understaffed - Many rides are closed due to lack of staff, including a few large ones but a lot of the smaller ones
Understaffed part II - Many restaurants/food options are closed, leaving less choices and very long lines (do NOT buy the tickets that include the food)
Understaffed part III - because they are having a hard time finding workers, the ones that they do find are less capable and lack social/basic decency skills
Signage throughout the park is horrendous, starting the flash pass pickup center - also has extremely long lines.

Overall you CAN have a good time...if you know what to expect.

DC Comics Rollercoasters

By Fabio Marques |

The best rollercoaster park featuring DC Comics properties in the whole world. It is a must go to any fan of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman.

Great experience

By Miranda R |

Very fun and exciting time. Enjoyed every minute of our trip. Park was clean and employees were all nice. Great experience with our premium flash passes.

Rollercoasters

By L B |

I had never been to Six Flags so I decided it was time to go on a road trip. Plus short lines. Dislike had to pay for things that should be included, Halloween time, houses you have to pay.
Walking around we would miss coasters and would have to look at the map and back track. Setup not that good. Had to ask were bathrooms were.
Coasters were fun.

Going Downhill in Every Way

By Chicago Area Dad |

I joined my wife and kids recently for a day trip to Great America. She had purchased 3 annual passes for her and our two boys during the winter, which at the time included some free guest passes. When we arrived at the park our problems for the day started with the 3 season passes not scanning properly, which forced us into a guest services line that was (early in the morning) already ~45 minutes long. Once we were finally at the front of the line, the passes were confirmed to work, but to my dismay we were told that there were no free guest passes to use and I was going to be charged over $50 for a single day pass. My wife repeatedly asserted that there were guest passes included when she bought the seasons passes. Eventually, after a bunch of delay including the customer service person disappearing behind the desk for 10 minutes, a supervisor appeared. I was completely shocked and angry when she told us "that was part of the package when you bought the passes, but the terms have changed since you bought the passes and the guest passes are no longer included". She sighted some terms in the fine print for the passes that Great America reserves the right to change the terms whenever they want. So, basically their explanation is that Great America reserves the right to bait and switch you once they have your money. What an awful business practice to screw over their season pass holders like that, and when you arrive at the park expecting a fun day you're left having to decide whether to pay the extra $50+ or disappoint your entire family.

Looking around the park, it was also apparent that their budgets and staff are not adequate to operate the park. Many of the rides look to be in disrepair, and either fully closed or "half closed" (with one of two sides shut down). As an example, American Eagle (the large wooden coaster that has been there for decades) looks like it hasn't been painted in many years. It leaves you wondering what kind of deterioration is happening to the now exposed wooden structure. The coaster was also "half closed", and the wait time was drastically understated on their app.

We were able to enjoy some rides during the day, but all in all it was a disappointment. I remember the park from my childhood, and it felt like it just isn't what it used to be in so many ways. The park now seems dominated by corporate penny pinching. Last I checked Six Flags generated positive earnings for the past 12 months, so it seems shareholders and executives are taking priority, not their customers.

If you still feel the desire to buy season passes, my only suggestion would be to not pay the full amount for the passes up front, and instead pay month to month. It might be more expensive that way, but at least then you have a option if Six Flags is not holding up their end of the deal you sign up for.

HORRIBLE practices

By Summer R |

NEVER purchase a membership from these guys! You are obligated for the time to pay them - BUT when I went and used my membership there were several times their systems were down and couldn't utilize my benefits OR get the food I pay for! NOT ONCE was I offered a refund and they still want me to pay. The staff is rude and unhelpful. NEVER EVER AGAIN

What going to an attraction park is all about!

By chuert |

This is a great place to go with family & friends. It has many different attractions and the rollercoasters and a must-do! Usually, you go to an amusement park and you see variants of the same and feel like something is left out; but here you can enjoy yourself and really have a thrill experience when your group is 18+ years old.

Six Flags needs a BIG remodeling for future experiences like VR and simulations.

Terrible

By Sam66 |

Bought tickets online for 70 dollars only to drive 2 hours to be turned away by police because the park is at full capacity. Terrible managing never going again

Great family fun

By Ellen |

We love this place, cannot wait to go to Freight Fest this year. Miss going each year since we moved and don't live as close. Highly recommended to any coaster fanatic!

Worst Experience !

By Yashashri K |

We spent a grueling two hours waiting in line for the Superman ride, only to be told it was out of order when we finally reached the front. And the disappointment didn't end there. After enduring another three-hour line for the Goliath ride, we were heartbroken to hear that bad weather had delayed it just as we were about to board. Our family had traveled over 500 miles for this trip, and the hours of waiting and the tears of our kids made it all the more frustrating. With only two roller coaster rides to show for our efforts, our day was completely ruined by the rain. It was heartbreaking to leave with disappointed kids in tow. We're asking for a refund or replacement tickets so we can try again without the letdown.

Better Than the Average Six Flags

By classicdj |

But that’s not saying whole lot. If you like coasters, it’s hard to beat. Highly recommend getting the deluxe Flash Pass. We paid $130 per person for this; however we pretty much walked on whatever coaster we wanted.

The exception: The Dark Knight indoor coated. The Flash Pass line joins in too far back and we had to wait about 15 minutes. I know 15 minutes is not a lot to complain about... but when you pay $130 it should be a walk-on.

Also, The American Eagle wood coaster has no Flash Pass option. I don’t know why. This is a major coaster that we waited at least 25 minutes to ride. It should be included.

You can get cheap online tickets but you will definitely pay $$$$ for food, parking, and the Flash Pass.

Awesome Place

By Anne J |

Hadn't been to Six Flags in a coupe years and it is actually so exciting! Had so much fun, the food is amazing had the waffle fries at the waterpark and they are delicious.

❤️ I love this six Flags park!

By your average traveler |

Oh great coaster lineup! I rode every single big coaster there my favorite had to be the superman coaster. It was an awesome ride. There’s many places to get food. I do suggest getting the all day drink because you can refill it as many times as you want and because they do not allow water bottles from outside places there overall I love the Six Flags park!!😊 there is so much to do for family to there are some shows and rides for younger kids! I would recommend getting the flash pass if you can afford it! Because it can get really expensive do expect money and some lines but if you go during a weekday, it’s not that bad anyway, I love this park

Never Again!!!

By Cinderella |

I’m currently sitting in the middle of Six Flags Great America..... pissed off and hungry. The computers have been down since before we entered the park. They should not have even opened the park today. Everyone is pissed and hungry. The only people that can get food is the dining pass holders. We paid for a membership to get extra perks of preferred parking, discounts on food, and flash passes to go to the front of the line at 1 ride of your choice. We parked, they took our pass so if we leave we would have to repay to park. We can’t buy anything. We can’t get our flash passes or anything to eat because the computer system is down. This is a health hazard!!! I’m here with my husband and 4 adult children for what we thought was going to be a fun day. All we have been doing is waiting in lines, to be told they can’t help us. No compensation, No “I’m sorry”.... all the people that work here are hiding from the customers in the back room. This is straight up hunger games. Don’t come here!!! I’m never coming back!! Should have went to Disney... #neveragain!!

Best collection of roller coasters!!!

By ashlynboulton |

My boyfriend and I visited on a Thursday and were in the parking lot at 9:50 AM ready to get in the park at 10 AM when they opened. They did not end up opening the gates until 10:20, which soured our morning a little. We are Six Flags members meaning we parked and got in for free so we decided to buy the regular flash pass for $50 each since we live out of state (10 hours away) and have never been to this Six Flags and wanted to get the most out of our experience. Also, it was just too hot to wait in line for 50+ minutes to ride a roller coaster that only lasts 1 minute so it was a no brainer for us to get the flash pass. Unfortunately, once we finally got in the park at 10:20 we then had to wait another 10+ minutes for the flash pass building to open.. by the time we got our flash pass it was around 10:45 so that's basically an hour wasted just because the park was not ready to open when it was supposed to be. I'm sorry, but if your hours say 10 AM to 9 PM, that means you open the gates and have the rides running at 10 AM, no excuses. People pay a lot of money to spend the day here. Finally after getting our flash pass we were able to start riding the roller coasters. Some of our favs were X-Flight, Goliath, Raging Bull, V2, Maxx Force, Batman, and the Dark Knight. Unfortunately Superman was down for the day but we have the exact same Superman coaster at our home Six Flags so it didn't really affect us. We were able to ride all of the roller coasters and we rode everything that we wanted to in the front row which was awesome. With so many coasters, it was difficult to ride all of them twice although some I would never ride again like Joker and Demon. The park was very busy and we stayed from 10 AM to 5:30 PM and didn't even have time to ride a single water ride or family ride even with the flash pass.. that's how busy the park was and how long the wait times were. We were not expecting it to be as busy as it was on a Thursday but with it being summer and school out there were lots of kids. Despite all odds, we have been to Six Flags Over Georgia and Six Flags St. Louis and this is by far our favorite park out of the 3. Not that we don't love those two parks but the amount of coasters this park has is unsurpassable. We love this park and would love to visit again! I would recommend the flash pass to anyone who is visiting from out of state and wants to get the full experience. Without our flash pass we wouldn't have gotten to ride even half of what we ended up riding. The flash pass is confusing to use at first but you'll get the hang out of it quickly. Make sure you reserve a ride as soon as you swipe into the next one! Also, the only two rides we waited forever for were the two coasters not included in the flash pass, Maxx Force and American Eagle so be aware of that. Don't miss experiencing this park!!

No refund even when they mess up

Made me wait 40 mins after park close to say no refunds. extremly rude!

If you can find deals through your local municipality or grocery, it makes for a reasonably priced day of fun for everyone, nice to be able to ride rollercoaster or waterslides

Haunted houses

By Crystal L |

Honestly a huge waste of money. Went through one of the haunted houses and only TWO actual live people were in the attraction. Just a waste of time and energy walking through a million curtains which were just cut up cloths. For the money spent it could’ve been 100x better. Seemed very understaffed and in another haunted house you’d walk by some of the “characters” and they wouldn’t even try to scare you, they’d just stand there. Also two people came out of character and tried flirting with my friend and I, stopping us to tell us we’re pretty and asked for our numbers. I wanted to be scared, not find a boyfriend.

Disney or Universal, it is not!

By Gaynor h |

It’s a bit grotty. Some rides (go-karts), were extra and not included, which is a ripoff, some rides weren’t open. Parking is $40. A burger and fries, $17.99, funnel cake $16.99, etc. The rides? Meh. Lines were not horrible (30 minutes at most), but rides as usual were ridiculously short. We were underwhelmed. Never again.

Worst Theme Park in the World

By Jeremy |

The only reasons why I continue to go to this park is either due to the fact that I must be masochistic or, the more likely fact is that it is the only theme park in a 100 mile radius and there is sadly little else to do in the Chicago area. In a nutshell, Six Flags Great America is awful. I never feel safe when visiting Six Flags Great America, as they cater to juvenile delinquents. If you want proof, visit yourself and see all of the unsupervised teenagers who literally run through the park without any regard for other visitors. Even better, perhaps you can visit and dodge the basketballs, or other foreign items that will be possibly flying at you or your family, courtesy of the above noted juvenile delinquents. Don't worry about the possibility of seeing a Six Flags employee address the safety issues or try to enforce the rules, as they don't appear to have the brain capacity to do so, or they simply don't care at all. If you address your concerns with the employees of Six Flags, they will quickly dismiss your concerns, or act as if they are surprised to hear of such news, even though it is present EVERY DAY. Sadly, if someone at Six Flags at the executive position would actually care about their reputation or the general safety of the non-juvenile delinquent visitors, it could actually be a fun theme park. I only bring my family to the park in the early parts of the year, as the crowds are generally low, but sadly, the mentality of the Six Flags employees is the same.

Holiday in the Park--a Joyful Time

By dgschulz |

The Holiday in the Park was a delightful way to spend the afternoon/evening. (The park doesn't open until 2 pm.) The millions of lights were fun to see, and the Wonderland at the Grand show was great. The songs and dancing reminded me of the "White Christmas" movie, with lots of energy and fun. There were not many rides in operation. As a season pass holder, I was happy to have one more day at the park this year.

Worse drive-tru light show ever

By Mirz |

Sumarized for everybody, DO NOT GO! To the light show drive-tru, it is a rip off. Lights were static, music didn't sync with lights, poorly done. Over priced, so disappointed. My young kids were falling at sleep and waiting for the show.

Best Six Flags Experience!

By Jessica R |

We were aprehensive to come, but this was hands donw the best Six Flags experience we have had! Rides are not open, but most of the water park is, and the children had a great time! We went on all the slides, lazy river, pool, etc. Hardly any lines for food, and there is mobile ordering. Extra staff walking around cleaning, especially at the eating areas. If you are a season pass holder you are basically getting this whole summer free, plus your season pass extended for every month once they reopen. Dining pass is also valid this summer!

Fun for all

By Jeanette L |

Went on a Tuesday. Great rides and lines were short. Friendly staff. Tasty food. Something for everyone!

Great potential but poorly managed

By Jennifer H |

the only reason i’m giving this place a 3 is because the rides really are fun and worth going to BUT here are just a few of the problems worth mentioning...

we arrived to the park at 1045, right after they opened. we purchased fast passes online and went to pick up our bands, the line went out the office and through the square! it was 1:30 before we got on our first ride!!!!! absolutely unacceptable! the entire check in process was unorganized and good luck finding an employee to help! the one kid who came by actually said “i don’t know” when we asked if we were even in the right line and then walked away. i suggest printing your fast pass purchase barcode or taking a screenshot of it because there’s no service in the building and you can’t get your email to load. honestly the check in process put a damper on the whole day.

we purchased the platinum flash pass but i’ll be honest i’m not sure what the difference was between that and the gold. you only get to skip a portion of the line. you don’t get to go up to the front of the line and the gold goes to the same place as the platinum. it would only make a difference on the first ride of the day so let me explain: let’s say you (a platinum) wanted to ride the same ride as the gold member, you book and it says the ride is available in 8 minutes, the gold books and it says 18 minutes. you both get into the line at the same spot which is not even up front, it’s just close to the front. once the gold member scans in they can book their next ride while they are waiting in line for the current ride and then they they never have to wait again just like you (the platinum band holder). also online it says the platinum fast pass gets you the ability to stay in your seat and ride the same ride twice in a row. well that’s outdated and they quit doing that years ago. oh and get this, on 2 of the rides there wasn’t even a worker to scan the pass in, so just anyone could hop on in line and then you had to figure out how to cancel your fast pass bc you can’t book another one till you ride the one you signed up for!! total joke.

...the armband is similar to a disney band but you use it took book the rides. it’s like 80s technology. it freezes up, says some of the rides are not available for fast passes and the maxx force fast pass can only be used once and that’s it. if you want to ride again you have to wait in the line with everyone else. don’t get me wrong, i’m all for waiting 20 minutes instead of 60 but don’t go into this thinking you’re going to the front of the line. at kings island we went to the front with our fast passes every time!! now that’s a place i’ll go back to again!!!

there were 3 of the major rides that weren’t open but a few hours! the ride that takes you straight up in the air and drops you so many feet, the one that goes forwards and then backwards was only open for 2 hours and the band said it wasn’t available for a fast pass and the red wooden coaster was stuck. makes you wonder how safe the park really is.

speaking of safety there were only kids running this place. literally zero adults. if something were to go wrong would they even know what to do!!

the rides take so much time to get on and off because you have to wait for everyone to put up their bags and drinks and take off shoes and hats. then on the ride exit everyone goes through a single file turn style!! now i’m by no means a genius but 30 people grabbing their belongings and exiting in single file while the new comers are trying to wade through you to put their stuff in the bin is just not my idea of fast and efficient! am i right?

hope this helps someone. we only had the weekend to spend in chicago and had i done better research on this place i most definitely would NOT have wasted a day here. very disappointing.

Kids and family top attractions around Illinois

The rides are really fun for both kids and adults. Huge parking lot to accommodate more cars. Plenty of rides for all ages.

Not scary

By debbie t |

Was prepared to be scared! Saw quite a few "actors" talking among themselves not bothering to even try. At first thought it was weather related s it was rainy but not so. Disappointed in lack of enthusiasm by actors

WORST OF ALL SIX FLAGS

By SARAH B |

DROVE AN HOUR AWAY SPENT OVER 100 DOLLARS, JUST FOR THEM TO TELL ME THE PARK WAS CLOSED, THEN WONT EVEN GIVE ME A REFUND BECAUSE THATS WHAT COMPANIES DO, THEY STAY GREEDY AND DONT CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS. HOURS ON GOOGLE SAID OPEN, PUBLIC SAFETY MAN AT GATE SAID CLOSED.

Badly maintained. Awful experience. Avoid.

By Simon K |

Here for fright night. Most rides are delayed or not working. Avoid coming here. Just awful. Kids so disappointed. Stuff are clueless. Sending us to the wrong parts of the park to purchase a fast pass which we needed otherwise we wouldn’t get anywhere near any of the few working rides. Turns out you have to buy them online.

Old, tired, greedy and no longer family friendly. Overpriced and underwhelming.

By pledges |

We took our kids to Great America every year as kids. It was reasonable to get in and to park. We never needed a fast pass and never waited that long for rides. We loved the shows too. Food was always expensive but nothing like it is now.
I just took my two preteen grandchildren. We were sad raging river is still closed. And only 1 real show that wasn’t that great. The singers seemed good but the sound system distorted and punk is not most people’s thing. We waited for a “show” at 5:30 and found out it was a small parade thing that kept moving. The other “show” in sw territory was at same time frame as the adrenaline one. That seemed stupid. Nothing for little kids. I know there were more theatres and shows years ago and usually some kind of thrill/acrobat show.
Rides seem they have not been kept up or refurbished over the years. A lot of weeds growing everywhere. Inexcusable. My parents enjoyed the park years ago. There would be little for older adults to do now. Tower closed. Used to be a 3 armed Ferris wheel that’s gone. 40.00 parking? Wtf. Pure greed. It’s why no one goes to the Dells anymore either.
Only good thing was we enjoyed the food at Windy City brew pub. Large portions.
But really 2 burger and fries and 1 order of fried pickles was 57.00. (I didn’t order food for myself…I just helped kids finish theirs) Thankfully my brother had season pass with parking so we rode in with him. He also had extra drink cup too and we shared that.
I won’t likely be back unless there are major changes. And bring back the twicket or include water park for minimal charge. Most people aren’t going to buy a season pass and all the extras or buy passes to two parks! Six flags used to be family friendly and fun. Now it’s just old, tired and greedy. And definitely no longer family friendly. Nothing for over 40’s who don’t do roller coasters.

Thrilling, exciting and sometimes scary

By Harpiytravel |

This was my second time in Six flags, last time I did on a family trip at New York and this time in Chicago. Rides are really very chilling , each ride offers you something different (even though most of them are coasters). We took flash pass for 2 which was around 100 bucks and that helped a lot to avoid long lines. We did batman, x-flight, superman, dark night, giant drop, demon, hangover, raging bull, revolution, V2 from the flash pass and remaining with regular ticket (59 per person). Overall it’s very awesome but pricy too. They have lockers near every ride and we used initially for 2 hours (6$) but later realised nobody is bothering about lockers and keeping their items in the box 📦 available near ride (no six flag guarantee on items), so we also started the same and my recommendation is also to use temporary boxes before rides for the luggage. Park has plenty of food options and many places to have some good clicks. Flash pass counter is in the middle of park with almost no direction to it, so it’s a kind of messy that way, you will spend much time finding it and then coming again to return the flash pass watch to the location. Also wait time written is not accurate, it’s generally more than what depicted.

Too pricey food and drinks!!

By Madhu M |

Rides and park facility are good but meal and beverages too pricey!! like who would want to spend $18 on single slice of a cheese pizza and $7.6 on 500 ml of water bottle?
too pricey, clear no to six flags!!

Thrills-focused

By patlv23 |

Six Flags is definitely a thrills over atmosphere kind of park. There are some areas that they paid decent attention to though like Battle for Metropolis. If you're not into thrill rides, you might not get your money's worth as there are lots of crazy rides, a decent number of kids rides and not much in between. Plus of course, there are the lines on busy days. If you are an adrenaline junkie though, this is the perfect place for you.

Opening Weekend Disasters!

By Kemis3 |

One would think that Opening Weekend would be a great joy at Six Flags, but disappointments abound. The lack of rides available for my 5-yr-old were many. Her favorites rides were all closed. Even rides that were open at one moment were closed the next. The iconic carousel? Closed earlier in the day, and later when it was open, only the first floor was.

The 99 cent surcharge on everything? Who’s pocketing that money? $10 for a bag of Doritos (includes the surcharge.) The Dippin’ Dots kid wouldn’t give me my discount for having a Season’s Pass.

The new Sky Striker isn’t even close to being finished. Ads in the fall said that it would be ready opening day. The paper said later this spring. The American Eagle isn’t open because the Sky Striker isn’t finished.

There is construction everywhere on the grounds, including the front entrance. What was going on during the winter months, when it snowed twice and temps were in the 40s? Nothing was painted since October. The place is run down and dirty.

We have to register our car for the Speedy Gonzales Lane, and it wasn’t working. They have the cones up.

$40 to park if you don’t have a pass?

What a disappointment. Good thing my daughter is too young to understand all the complaints I have. My husband had more fun working outside the house today. He would’ve been livid if he saw what we paid for with our Seasons Pass.

Great Family Place

By Kevin K |

My husband, daughter, and I had a wonderful time on at 3 occasions. The only drawback was the excessive lines. Everything else was great.

Fun for the whole family

By Tonifaj |

We went here with my 5 year old daughter and even though she’s too small for the “upside down” roller coasters, we were able to ride the Whizzer and the two other coasters. There are also other water rides for her and she had a blast!

What a great time!

By kend0622 |

My family is from Buffalo and we have season passes from Six Flags Darien Lake. Since we can use them at other parks we decided on Great America. What a great choice it was. The park was fantastic! We spent most of our first day in Hurricane Harbor. It was a hot Monday. Lines weren't bad at all. We had a Cabana so didn't have to search for chairs, but there were plenty open. Waterslides were great. Lots of different types for all ages. Park was very clean. Most workers were less than enthusiastic but typical for an amusement park. Second day was just in the regular park. We spent the whole day going on all the excellent rollercoasters. There were so many it took all day. Lines were not bad. Longest we spent was 45 min for Maxx Force. If you like coasters, this is a great park...equal to Cedar Point. Food was average & most places to refill cups were quite slow. The park was very clean and well kept. I would definitely return & honestly wish our Six Flags was more like this one!

Disappointing

By Rachel M |

I've been going to this park for many years and my first visit of this summer was very disappointing. You have to pay full price for a ticket just to get inside and find out a number of rides are closed for the day (no water rides open in 90 degree weather?), no compensation or lower ticket prices for this. Their food and drinks have somehow gotten even more ridiculously overpriced. Very long wait times even on seemingly slower days due to other rides being randomly closed. The few staff members I interacted with were friendly and kind, but the park seems very understaffed compared to previous years (wasn't as clean as past years). I was surprised to see quite a few rides have been removed or are sitting unused, making the park feel empty and incomplete in many sections. Very unimpressed with this park after attending for so many years when it was so well cared for compared to now.

Good combo of theme and water parks

By LMM |

Good variety of rides / they do add ones on a regular basis too - and water park right there is great for hot days. Tickets are a good value, especially in comparison to ones like over-rated and political Disney. Could use a little more staff, food choices, but heard may be adding some name brands to parks. Have seen it a little better, cleaner, and with enviable crowds just last year / before, but I know they will get it back as these times are a little hard this summer.

Great experience all around

By WaiPRUSA |

This is the third different Six Flag park that we've visited so far. It has a few good things going for it.

1) Spacious
2) most of the rides were open
3) clean
4) places open for food and drinks spread out across the park
5) it has a new thrill ride
6) helpful employees

Cons:

1) skip the line benefit for being a pass holder doesn't work for the new ride.
2) a lack of Six Flags Great America merchandise.
3) lack of security

It's located around one hour away from Chicago. There are several hotels in the area. We did not have the time to visit Hurricane Harbor so I will not comment about it.

Better than expected

By Amusementparkguy |

A friend and I wrapped up our park trip with this amusement park. From past experiences, this park is ALWAYS crowded, even on weekdays. Lines can move slowly. This visit was better than expected. It was a very busy day at the park, but some of the coasters had lines less than 15 minutes. One in particular had no line at all, and we were able to reride it a few times in a row.

The park grounds were clean. Employees mostly friendly. Food service is the worst thing we experienced. High food prices and super slow service from lackadaisical workers. This can be improved upon easily enough.

The new coaster, Maxx Force, was not ready yet. The long winter and wet spring slowed down construction. It looked good.

Overall, not a bad day.

Fright Fest, quick advice

By Joseph |

Fright Fest. This our fourth year going. Just wanted to put some advice out there.
- If you want to get on coasters, this is the time of year to go. Get there when the park opens and head to the back of the park. We were on Goliath, Demon, XFlight and Raging Bull in an hour., then over to Viper. Went back next day and finished up with Joker, Vertical Velocity/Flash, Eagle and ended with Maxx Force. Now, Maxx Force is a one-train coaster, so the wait is long no matter what. We waited 1:15. The coaster is a 20 second ride, but it's awesome. If you want to get on that one quick, just go there first and wait in the line. It will never get shorter. We did that last year and still waited about 20-30 minutes. The park gets more crowded as the day goes on!
- Food, of course, is pricey. Best burger is Johnny Rockets. Strutters chicken is good also. Never tried much else.
- Haunted Houses: We pay for the Express pass and it helps, but it's pricey too. Of the six houses, two were pretty darn good. Others were okay. Depends on the actors and scares. They are generally same year-to-year, though they change them up a bit. Scare Zones are always fun.
- Shows. Seem same year-to-year, but they change it up a bit. Worth the break.
- We hit the coasters first, then first show, train ride, second show, then the Bewitching Hour is right after. Then off to the haunted houses.
- There are a fair share of somewhat unsupervised teens, so beware. They were pretty good this year, but they get loud and silly at times. Normal.
- We just buy the season pass (with parking) on specials. It's generally cheaper than a day pass plus parking. Even if we only go once a year, which is the norm now.
- We book early at one of the hotels across from the park. We're 1.5 hours away so no need to drive home, and with the season pass, we can hit it the next day for a bit to fit in what we missed.

Overcrowded and bees everywhere

There were bees everywhere I had my kids and grandkids and bees were all over us the whole time. We went on a Saturday and only rode a few rides because the lines were Soo long . Atleast 2 hour wait for each ride . Definitely not worth what my family paid. Don’t waste your money I came from Michigan and won’t do it again.

Not what it used to be

By dennydee348 |

I brought my wife and daughters to Six Flags today to pay my semi-annual penance. The girls had free admission from their school, so it just cost my wife and I admission and parking. My wife used a Coke can, got $10 off but still paid almost $70 per person, plus parking.

On arrival it was busy but not extremely packed. The ride times were a lot longer than stated. For example, the Giant Drop said approximate wait time of 15 minutes...it was just under an hour. Guess they underestimated a bit....but they have a remedy...an app for your phone...do I want to look at my phone all the time while supposing to have fun? Is the APP accurate in telling me how long the waits really are??? Obviously, their signs aren't.

Six Flags really is a money making place....you can always upgrade your daily admission to a year long one, which would be the best bet, as long as you go a couple times. But it's still a bit pricey.

The food and soda were extremely overpriced. $10 for a waffle cone....$15 for a refillable soda. The Sprite was flat and tasted lousy at most places. Again, pay almost $30 and drink for the entire season...great if you go often!

They offer a food program for about $35 per person..it includes a meal (usually a burger), snack (ice cream or cookie) and unlimited drinks...a bit overpriced? Not sure how a family of 4 does it.

What used to be carnival type games are now machines (think the Crane game). There are a few games with real people, mostly with a basketball and undersized hoop, or weighted bottles on a table....where did my Flip a Frog go? And what about the guy who could guess my weight or age? Ok, my bad, maybe not so PC in today's world.

And then the fast passes...another way to scam money so you don't have to wait as long...again, a total up charge. This place was once affordable and is now almost expensive.....

Then the safety issue...on some rides the fast pass entrance is the general exit for that ride. Imagine leaving the ride and almost getting ran over by kids coming the opposite way to get on the ride. It used to be, exit was for exiting only...

So my kids got entrance for free by reading some books, but our family still dropped over $300 for a day (did I say the kids had free admission???) Six Flags knows how to make the $$$. And don't forget...if you want to do special things-like Go Carting...add more $$$ and time waiting!

This might be great for those who go a few times a summer as opposed to once...at least I'm cover until 2020. I'll tell my kids to chill on the reading this fall too. This place is not what it used to be.

Extremely long lines at rides and concessions and everything else

By Rosemarie G |

While I understand labor shortages, but on Oct 30, about 1/4 of rides and 1/2 of concessions were closed. this resulted in crazy hour+ waits even for unpopular rides. Popular rides were 2 hour+ waits. And even food lines were an hour long. At that rate, during the 11 hours were were there, our family was only able to ride 6 rides and have one meal.
At that rate, we paid over $8 per ride... It was not worth that at all.
I understand labor shortage. But with the $ saved with a smaller work force, closed concessions, and closed rides.... the tickets should have been cheaper. I felt like Six Flags made the consumer bear the brunt of the labor shortage through these crazy prices with little return on the ticket price.
Haven't been in years... won't be going back

Wait times are out of control

By Midwest167 |

Wait times are out of control. First of all, the wait times are not listed anymore at the front of the rides. I was so disappointed as I had paid for my family to go as a graduation gift to my son. He literally went on 3 rides. All rides had a minimum of 1 hour wait and one was 1.5 hour wait. The flash pass was minimum 90 dollars per person which was too much so they had to wait. In addition, the train was closed, all the water rides were closed and there were no shows in the indoor auditoriums. So, they have no filler attractions to distribute people to other areas. Unless you have flash pass you will have a terrible time. Six flags also increased parking fees. The minimum there is 40 dollars a day. They need to do better. They are extremely short staffed as well. The one area that they did do well was the food as the food was decent and not that long of lines. Otherwise, they would get a zero review for the experience.

They shut everything down earlier than their advertised time

By Kris_and_Becky |

Oh, let me describe today's magical Six Flags Great America experience. I get season passes for the kids, and meal plans. This was the first time we went this year, so I had to go through that process....that was not bad.

We went after work, at 5:30, because they have advertised hours for meals until 7:00, and the park is open until 8:00.....but no.

We got to the food court at 6:00, signs EVERYWHERE saying that meals are served until 7:00.... no. They shut everything down at 6:00, no warning, just started slamming the metal gates shut so that you couldn't use the meal plan. My kids got pizza, the only thing that remained open, at exorbitant prices.

So fine, they're done eating about 6:20, go on American Eagle, we keep walking...7:00, one hour to go....and they shut down EVERY RIDE IN THE PARK. Again, to be clear, advertised hours until 8:00, and at 7:15, you have a bunch of confused people slowly walking out.

It's good to know that, even post-Covid, Six Flags remains a complete mess.

HOLIDAY at the Park is Fabulous

You wont want to miss the Holiday at the Park at Great America! We had a fabulous time at the Holidays at the Park event both this year and last year! It is truly a magical time! The shows, Wonderland at the Grand is superb!!! Looney Tunes Christmas is great fun for kids of all ages! The food options are terrific, get the Dining Pass! It is worth getting a Season Pass for sure, just visiting once will pay for the cost of the Pass!! Walking around seeing all the lights was beautiful and great fun! The Holiday shopping was fun too! Make sure you visit this terrific attraction at Great America!

Get their Early and Leave Satisfied

We recently went for the day and were pretty happy with the experience. We purchased tickets in advance, got the flash passes (gold level) and our daughter had a disability pass. The workers we had experiences with were very good. One was continuously picking up trash by the Superman ride and noticed someone left their order on the table. He went out of his way to find the owner. Another offered to say a prayer for my husband as he was recently injured at work and was still bandaged. Still another saw my credit card wasn't working and offered to pay the $6 for my purchase (as I was on my own waiting for the family to return from a ride). I didn't accept and put back the items, but I was flattered that he would show this random act of kindness. Thank you.

The only down side we had was that the bathrooms could be cleaner, and some rides showed up as full when we had a Flash Pass (happened on Aug. 3) . We made the best of it.

As for food, we do a variety of snacks in the park and tailgate in the parking lot. Funnel cakes are a must (set aside the calories for a day), and we enjoyed a drink or two as well. We did pack our own snacks/sandwiches and always leave midday to head to the vehicle to eat. It's a nice break and gives us a chance to regroup. Then we go back for more.

This is an annual trip for us, and we look forward to returning in the future.

Madeline was awesome

By William R |

I had gone on their website with no luck and somehow got through to customer service. I was lucky enough to get Madeline who helped me get everything we needed and also helped me cancel an order we had done my mistake. Madeline is top notch when it comes to customer service.

Fright fest was awesome HUGE crouds

By Kevin M |

The kids and Us enjoyed all the sites and monsters for fright fest.
We loved it. the crowds were huge. average wait time for rides was about 60 minutes. but this was expected for fright fest though.
Food is pricey but good (get the food pass if you go more than once)
Much better than St Louis and bigger. The layout is much easier to follow too. More rides. its just a shame for us that its over 3 hours away.

Used to be ok, now it's got too many problems

By Neverlandpirate |

We are somewhat local and go usually 1-2 times a year, but haven't been back since 2019. Great America just keeps going downhill, it's actually borderline depressing right now.

PARK-The park itself is just dirty all around. There is nobody walking around cleaning, tables are dirty, trash and gum everywhere.

STAFF- The staff is barely responsive to basic questions. The ride operators are probably the most friendly/competent, but they are so busy that they can't really answer questions. That leaves the staff in the parks and they are all zonked out. There seems like there are no adults that work at this place.

FLASHPASS- On the one hand, I cannot see doing this park without a flashpass. THe lines are SO LONG. On the other hand, the flash pass has gotten worse this year. Early in the day, there were a number of rides that were not available on the Flash Pass (Demon, Viper, Loggers Run, Dark Knight). As the day went on, a lot of other rides were "full" like Goliath, X-Flight, Raging Bull, etc. I also noticed the wait time (with a Gold) were pretty long, much longer than what we waited over the prior years. Having said all that, we were able to ride a decent amount. We did most of the rides 2 or 3 times, it just took a lot of back/forth.

RIDE CLOSURES- Lots of closures overall. Some rides will close mid-day, lots of games closed, restaurants. It puts the pressure on the remaining rides to service the customers.

OVERALL- This place is suffering from an EXTREME staffing shortage. I talked to someone who said that the reason rides aren't available on FLASHPASS is because they don't have the staff to man that part of the ride. My kids like roller coasters, so is the best/closest option, but it's not a great "family" spot. I didn't see anything all that bad, but it had a different vibe this year vs. prior years.

Don't buy their upgraded membership season pass

By Patty P |

Warning! If you buy the upgraded diamond pass, they advertise that you get a front of the line pass each time you go, for all their major rides. We bought this upgraded pass with the intention of taking advantage of it for their new ride Max Force. there was a line out the door just to get the front of the line pass then we find out they only give it to the first 50 people that asked for it. each day only 50 people get a front-of-the-line pass for that ride. very deceptive and unfortunately you pay a monthly fee for the upgraded pass and are locked into a contract. I didn't expect a scam like this from six flags, buyer beware!
the park is often very crowded their goal is to make their season passes as cheap as possible and when it gets so crowded it will force you to buy a flash pass, or suffer crowds that will get you on maybe three rides at the most in one day.

Disappointing!

By kms |

Believe the reviews about Fright Fest. I wish I would have read them before I invested so much money and time to go. We visited on October 23, 2021. I expected there to be crowds; I expected to wait in some lines. But nothing could have prepared me for the ungodly lines at EVERY ride and food place. In 6.5 hours, my daughter and I only were able to get on four rides....and that's because we were there right when the park opened and we were able to get on one ride fairly quickly. The crowd wasn't so bad before 1:00. After that, forget it! Lines were well into the pathways.... I mean WAY into the pathways. The common theme I heard from several people that are regulars at the park was "over capacity!" They said even on the most crowded summer day, the crowd and lines were nothing like this day. Then, there's the lack of costumed staff roaming around. The advertisements tease of the level of scare; they say they "take no mercy," they say it may be too scary for children under 13. Really? Where? I've been more scared at my church youth group haunted house. I wanted to love this experience. I've been wanting to go to Fright Fest for half my life. I was finally able to do it, drove six hours round trip, and it did nothing but disappoint. Save your money and go at a less busy time.....if at all. (One other thing. If you are in line and someone in your party has to go to the bathroom or wants to go get something to eat or drink, forget it! Some of the rides have security officers at the gate and won't let people back in line to rejoin their family. They literally tell people they have to go to the end of the line, even after having already stood in line for God knows how long. Horrible.)

Fun cost...and a lot...

By Abdul M |

If you are willing to spend a great amount of time and money, then this is the place to go. It is not the same, with pricing of course, as before. Many things haven changed and so have the entrance fee and food as well. Tripadvisor didn't have an entry and can't add anything so I am writing it here. I am writing about Mooseburger Lodge at Six Flags great America--Gurnee, IL.

First, Six Flags itself has its perks, tricks and rip offs. The pricing, the parking, the food, the drinks, and now the packages. You can buy from basic to Diamond Elite package for your convenience--whatever rocks your ride ;). As I wrote before, money talks! You have it and want to spend a lots of it, then this is the place. Single day ticket is $60 and if you know that you will come back then get the season pass for $82. But wait, there is more! The parking cost as well, for single day it will be $30 (insane), and for the season for 70 to 82 dollars. But wait, there is more! You can get all the perks by being a Gold, silver or a Diamond member, with parking for Diamond members, not just any parking but preferred parking. As I said, if you have the money you can get what you want.

The list is infinite for this money rolling business, you can get a season bottle with gold color for $27 for one and if you buy 3 it will go down to $20.

Secondly, I just want to write about Mooseburger Lodge, since there is not entry for it here in Tripadvisor and I don't know why we can't add entries. But here goes. Yes, it is overpriced for a burger around $15. My students liked the cheese burger, the veggie was ok. They forgot to put the sauce, etc, and it was dry. The fries are excellent and good amount given. The funnel cake is great as well.

I hope you have enough credit limit to continue on with this... Enjoy the rides have fun...

Great customer service and management!

Kim (Supervisor) and her team went out of their way to make sure my son and I had rain ponchos during our visit. Top notch service!
