2 of 17 Best Attractions in Jackson

During our school summer break we were looking for a fun family activity close to home. Something exciting enough for a 10 year old but relaxing enough for an 80 year old. We choose to go to Great Adventure's Safari Drive Thru in Jackson.
The Safari Drive Thru is a 350 acre animal preserve with over 1,200 animals from six continents and, on a hot summer day, you can see them all from the comfort of your own air conditioned car as you drive through the park. New to the park is the Xpedition Dino exhibit which can be combined with your Safari Drive Thru ticket for an extra fee and offers 30 life size dinosaurs complete with movements and sounds.
I ordered four tickets to the Safari Drive Thru online and printed them out to take to the park the next day. On the day of the trip, I added an additional passenger by ordering an electronic ticket which I can display on my cell phone to the attendant at the gate.
We arrived at the park at 2PM on a Tuesday. I discovered the entrance to the Safari Drive Thru had been moved from where I remember it. Previously, the Safari shared an entrance with Hurricane Harbor on your right as you enter the park from Route 537. (In fact Google maps City View still shows that entrance sign as being there.) Now, upon entering Great Adventures there is a new entrance which is still under construction during our visit - with orange cones set up on the right immediately after the Hurricane Harbor entrance that lead us to a gravel path and a Safari Drive Thru sign.
We stopped at the gate, had our tickets scanned by the attendant and was given a road map to the park. They also gave us a paper with QR codes to access audio tours for both the Drive Thru and the new Xpedition Dino exhibit from our cell phone. But I was able to play the audio tour for the Drive Thru portion from the Six Flags web site on my cell phone without using the QR code.
With the exception of the Xpedition Dino exhibit and fact that the lions and baboons were now caged, the Safari Drive Thru was the same as I remember it many years ago. Back then the lions and baboons roamed free as you drove through the park. But, the Safari Drive Thru was still as much fun and enjoyable as it was back then. Only, much safer for cars with the baboons and lions caged. We especially loved seeing the giraffes, zebras, water buffalos and brown bears close up. Unfortunately it was a hot summer day and many of the animals were either laying down, in the water or hiding in the shade away from the road. But it was still exciting to see the animals we could see during our visit.
We were not overly impressed with the Xpedition Dino exhibit. The dinosaurs look fake and moved like robots which took away from the whole experience. We wanted to see them do more than just slowly wag their tails, slowly open and close their month or slowly move their eyes. We hoped for more life like movements to go with their life size. The Xpedition Dino exhibit was added on a hilly gravel road to your left as your leave the Tiger Section (Tigris Asiana) and before you enter the Baboon Village. There was an attendant dedicated to the entrance of the Xpedition Dino exhibit who re-scanned all our tickets – so if you paid for this exhibit you want to keep your original tickets close by and accessible after you enter the park. At this point I used the QR mark the attendant gave us to access the audio tour for this exhibit – since it was not available on the Six Flag web site.
All in all, we had a great time at the Safari. One thing to know before you enter the park is that there are no rest rooms in the Safari Drive Thru. There is a port-a-potty close to the entrance at the start and there are rest rooms, food and drink after you exit the park. Our trip through the Safari and Xpedition Dino land took about 2 hours.

If you drive through here, don't do it in a convertible. Lots of animals to see, Giraffes, elephants, monkeys, lions, and baboons. But be careful of the baboons, they will attack your car.

Website is unclear- it's no longer a drive thru and not included with gold season passes. I was told we have safari admission but we had to pay to park even though we have free parking at the theme park and water park. They should make this clear on the website and app.

Make sure you go to the Safari FIRST when you get to the park. The line fills up fast. Seeing and feeding the giraffes is amazing. You are up on a platform about 6 feet off the ground and they eat sweet potatoes right out of your hand!!!

We went to six flags especially for the safari. It was incredible. We didn't expect it to see so many animals. You don't drive your car anymore now you travel on a truck. we got off the truck at the halfway mark and we saw the giraffes up close , fed them , and even took a picture with them. It was a great time. And even even the rides afterwards.

very interesting with a lot of animals about an hour to go round and sometimes you can stop in the middle and get out to see the animals

This is an awesome attraction. Not only are the animals close but, the tour guide was excellent! Justin was so knowledgeable and quite witty! He made the tour an unforgettable experience!!

My wife and I recently took our granddaughter and a friend to the Safari Park at Six Flags. We went on a weekday as the schools were closed. We enjoyed our visit and the girls really had fun. The entry fee is reasonable and the excursion is worthwhile. There are many animals and the experience was up close.

A great place for families along with the adults. The Safari is A+ and with the Giraffe feeding is an amazing adventure. We went with a group of adults and we had just as much fun as the kids.

Very interesting, fun. You can feed the giraffes. My favorite event of the day was the safari tour. Took us 3 hours, becasewe stopped at camp aventura which is a little place in the middle ofthe tour where you can feed the giraffes, use the restroom, go on a mini zipline..lots of fun!

I have been to a few of the drive-through parks with animals. I would be disappointed if I paid $20 per person to go on this one but it is a part of Six Flags and included an admission. There are a lot of animals of the same type and the ride in the truck is worthwhile. Try to go at feeding time. They do close the attraction early.

Riding through the plains in a retro fitted army truck, you will be one with nature! An amazing attraction that is part of your Six Flags experience!

This was a nice surprise in a day filled with disappointments.
Everyone we encountered was very nice and informative and the animals were spectacular.
We did not pay extra for the giraffe feeding at the halfway point. Definitely worth doing.

If you remember Six Flags NJ Safari as a drive-at-your-own-pace-and-risk from before, it is no longer that. The Six Flags Safari now is a guided tour. You'll get in a truck with about 30 (?) people and the driver and tour guide will take you to different "continents" and discuss the animals living there.
So, I'm kinda torn how to rate the Safari now.
On the plus side, there's a knowledgeable guide to tell you this-and-that animals. At least I'm not just driving around not able to identify half of the animals I saw. I love that they still have some animals like ostrich, bison, kangaroos and zebra freely roaming the area. And it's good that you don't see a lot of cars/trucks driving while you do too. You get to enjoy the animals way better this way and it has a better feel of being in a real safari.
On the negative side, you can't just get near and feed the giraffes anymore. If you want to get that experience, you need to pay $6/person ($5 if you're a season pass holder). And because you're in a guided tour, if you see an animal that interest you, you can't stop a bit longer than you want to. And, where are the monkeys???
TIPS:
1. Try to avoid the last row seats. It's too bouncy and you'll feel every bump and jolts. I think best row is in the middle. -- I took the Safari ride twice, it's why I'm able to compare seats.
2. This is a very popular ride and the line can get really long. Besides, I asked a ranger, and he said that the animals are most active in the morning. So best thing to do is take this ride as soon as you get in the park.
3. Take the edge seats regardless of the row you're in. You'll have the best view of the animals specially of those which are roaming and can be just beside the truck. It's best to take pictures too.

This is part of Six Flags Great adventure as long as the lines are not too long it is a not to be missed attraction for animal lovers. This past trip all the animals were very active including the herd animals moving as a herd as it was near feeding time. The lines can get long I have heard of waits exceeding an hour for this ride.

Let me start with, I am an ANIMAL LOVER!! I purchased tickets for the annual Grape Adventure at Six Flags Safari. Its a wine tasting event paired with the safari tour. It was EXCELLENT! We interacted with a bunch of different animals. I fed giraffes, lamas, pigs, donkeys, miniature horses. Got up close and personal with a parrot, a barn owl and a chinchilla. All of this while sampling wines from different vineyards. It was the perfect day. Not going to lie.....I enjoyed the animals more than the wine. But the combination was perfect. I will definitely return again and recommend to any animal lovers (children or adults)

very informative, dont sit at the rear of the trucks. bring a camera and some money..the trucks stop at an area with snakes, giraffe feedings, snacks and toilets.

Fun, clean, always a good time! Near jersey outlet center, if you just would like to drop teens and pre teens!! there is a convenient drop off pick up area.

The safari is a family ride, amazing! You feel like in a real safari in Africa! You must-to-see!!!
This was one of my best moments at Six Flags.

Gone are the days where you were able to drive your car through the safari at your own pace. Now they take you on a safari type of truck through the park. If you do not get on line as soon as the park opens, expect a 2+ hour wait. The good news is, the safari lasts a lot longer than a typical coaster so it makes the wait a little more bearable but overall, they could do a much better job with their safari. And of course, there are no shortage of up-sells such as feeding the giraffe's or VIP safari tours. All in all, a good experience but the long lines ruin the excitement.

Excellent for family trip. Kids enjoyed the trip, executives are friendly and really helpful.
Must visit for all families and friends

I grew up watching this small animal park grow into an amazing animal reserve. The animals will come right up to your car.

I have never written a review but felt the need today. I am at the park right now and wanted to check out the new safari because we came last year the last week the old one was open but cannot. We got to the entrance at 4:30 to find out they closed it at 2:30 due to volume of people waiting to ride. My kids are in their mid to late teens so their reaction was oh well. However watching small children crying because they can't see the animals was so sad. The parents were so upset because it was the only reason they came to the park. There was a sign when we first came in saying wait could be up to 3 hours. Heard people were waiting over 4. It's horrible. Six flags you blew it! I think this will be the last time we will be coming here every thrill ride was a 2 hour wait. Security check was over fifteen minute line. Hershey he we come! Never have a problem there.

Fortunately you don't have to get vaccinated and travel to Africa for your family to experience an animal safari. A 90 minute drive from NYC, Jackson, NJ has a 350 acre preserve located in adjoining grounds to Six Flags Great Adventure amusement park. This is even accessible via public transportation from NYC.
I was disappointed when they closed in September, 2012 and began construction to renovate it to become the Safari Off Road Adventure. This new version of the Safari is now accessible only with admission through the amusement park. There is no additional fee for this attraction.
I wasn't disappointed, however, when I took this evolved adventure. The safari is really quite something. The adventure begins when you board an open-air safari truck complete with guide providing factual and funny information about the animals. The truck takes you though bumps and turns on a dirt road that thrills the little ones inevitably putting my daughter into a fit of giggles. Being seated in an elevated truck gives you eye level perspective with the giraffes and overall great views of the 350-acre animal preserve. The safari boasts over 1,200 animals from six continents including elephants, lions, giraffes, rhinos, tigers, kangaroos, ostriches, zebras, bears, flamingos, water buffalo, gazelles and the list goes on. Some of the animals are behind barricades but many are roaming the preserve and the trucks sometimes have to stop for them to cross the road. The guides are great at giving the spectators photo ops whenever the close encounters arise.
Midway through the ride you are given the chance to disembark the truck and visit Camp Aventura. This is more like a zoo where you can walk around and get closer views of reptiles, birds, visit the gift shop and see baby animals. We once saw ridiculously adorable bear and lion cubs in this area. For an extra fee, you can ride the "Screamin' Eagle" zip line and, at certain times, you can feed the giraffes sweet potato slices for a small fee. Feeding the giraffes has become our favorite part of the safari, so if it's an option when you visit it's worth the extra few dollars.
The off road trucks run continuously, so you never have to wait long when you're done visiting Camp Aventura. You line up again and within about 5 minutes you'll likely be back on the safari.
Tips:
There is no minimum height for the ride, if a child is accompanied by an adult. To ride alone, you must be at least 54 inches tall.
There are bathrooms and a snack bar at Camp Aventura.
The line can get quite long for this attraction, we always do this in the earlier part of the day to avoid the peak of the lines. This line is cut off at 5pm, so this attraction has shorter hours than the rest of the park.
Safari Off Road Adventure is located in Frontier Adventures section of Six Flags, just past the log ride.
We normally have a stroller with us. We park this near the line and pick it up when we return. We've been lucky and never has it been tampered with.
The total ride is about 45 minutes including a 20 minute stop at Camp Aventura.
You can take NJ transit from NYC to the park

its a great attraction for kids and adults for first and sec times it gets exciting when all the monkeys just jump on ur car but all in all its a nice place to visit

The safari lasts about an hour and is a beautiful way to learn about various animals in their real habitat. The narrative is very informative and presented with a sense of humor too. The trip is divided on two parts, where you are having the ability to visit the Great adventure center Camp Aventura, where you cna see some extra animals and for a fee to feed the giraffes. Highly recommend the giraffe feeding - it was the highlight of the trip. However, we was not very lucky with a good camp member, because she was not very eager of taking pictures of us with giraffes and was rushing us to be fast, which comparing it to the other member's interactions with visitors like us was a bit odd. Anyway - the giraffes were great and its memory to remember.

Board open air trucks that drive you thru the large safari in Jackson New Jersey. Elephants tigers lions, zebras, giraffes, and so many more animals. Makes a stop so you can an get off and do a zip line and feed animals.

I liked the bears kind of free roaming. The grazing animals were beautiful and all animals looked well-cared for. If it is raining, the safari trucks do not provide much cover so bring a rain poncho if it looks like wet weather. There is a stop at the halfway point. You have an option to get off and see some animals up close and I recommend this. We saw the giraffes being fed, an anteater up close, a skunk and a sloth.

It's really something to see!! Just Beware, the ride is very very bumpy!! You have to sit is your seat so it's hard for little children to see. There is a place to get off the truck and the children then get to see some animals up close.

We went here with our grandson. It was well laid out and not too busy. You can get really close to the animals. We liked the audio tour also, be sure to use that. We added the dinosaur experience, that was lot of fun for only $5 a head.

The updated safari is a lot of fun. Tour guides are energetic. There is a lot of animals to see. Highly recommend making this your first stop early in the morning if you plan on doing the park. Otherwise the line gets way too long.

painfully long lines to board safari bus the advertisement showing a giraffe near your bus never happens you have to pay to feed the giraffes in a designated area for a short time to make way for the next sucker to step forward the bus ride is uninformative and takes a very long time after which you are dropped off to spend money on drinks food etc without much else to do then you wait once again on a long line to board the bus back figure on 3-4 hours total for this *%#&%@# experience

Great time! Our tour guide Hassan was hilarious ! Learned a lot about many animals . Saw elephants , giraffes, Tigers , bears and more !

The tour guide was good (we got off at the halfway point and got the same guide both times) was a little put off that to go up near the giraffes you had to pay $6.00 with the price of the park that seems like a lot to charge. They also needed to have some empty trucks come back up and get people who got off at the halfway point. We had to wait over 30 minutes to get back to the park as 3 trucks rolled in and only about 3 to 4 people got off each truck which is frustrating when there is a huge line to get back to the park.

The Safari at Great Adventures is a great attraction for animal lovers, kids, and families. I myself enjoyed it because unlike the past when guest drove their own vehicle thru the safari, now Six Flags provides transportation. The vehicles are awesome, they are high enough to provide good views.
Compared to the safari ride in Disney's Animal Kingdom, Great Adventure's is way bigger and covers animals from very continent (except Antarctica), it use to be a separate property. While Disney's only covers Africa. Despite the size difference Disney does a better job of landscaping and theming. Disney is also better organized and overall has more animals roaming free. Of course comparing Disney to Six Flags might not be fair.
There are negatives. First is getting through security and the park entrance which is the longest and most disorganize of any theme park I've been to. Then the queue line itself is long and mostly unshaded. The other negative is Camp Adventura, which is located half way inside the safari. There is a gift shop, restaurant, a few animals, a deck for feeding giraffes and a zip lines ride. The zip lines is not worth the extra fee. Then you have to wait in another long line to get back on the safari truck. Camp Adventure is not worth the stop at the moment, perhaps when they develop more it will be worth stopping.
Overall it is a good attraction, get there early make it the first ride in the agenda, animals are more active in the morning time and avoid the long lines. If you can avoid Camp Adventura, its not worth the stop or money. Bring a camera taking pics of the animals. Hopefully Six Flags can develop more.

We have been to Safari Six flags for 8 years now, each summer, sometimes even couple of times per summer. We live close by, and I thought it was a nice experience to go there, drive through in own car, in-laws took our son there - went on their own, again in the car. You always knew - you will get there.
What a horrible change, it was such an unpleasant surprise to learn that now you have to get into the Six Flags park (wait in line to get there), then get through the park (signs for Safari are not really good - we had to ask for directions to safari) --- and then - another surprise: first time we tried over the week-end in the afternoon - the wait was 2 hours!!!!!!! What normal person (I cannot imagine a child) could stay in line and wait for 2 hrs to get into the truck!!! Bad, bad!!!
So, we didn't even get into a line, so the whole week-end trip to Safari was a waste of money and time, as I only wanted to get into Safari with 2 kids (and I couldn't imagine that there was such a change since last summer). Second time we went on Tuesday, were there by 11 am, still had to wait for 40 min, got into an open truck (I think they put 30 people there - 5 persons per row).
Off road experience!!! - toooooo bumpy, unpleasant for kids, my daughter got scared, kids cannot see well if they are sitting next to/ behind adults.
Terrible change!!!!
Have been your loyal customer/visitor for all these 8 years, but from now on --- not even a foot there, and that's the experience I've been sharing with friends and co-workers.... unfortunately.
There are twice less animals as before, they don't show monkeys anymore, and the safari guide that we had in the truck --- not worth...

This safari ride was very well done. We arrived around 11am and there was no wait. The guide was very good and we saw many different animals. It was about a 45 min tour in a pretty comfortable vehicle. The trucks continually run, so there is no set time for your tour.

DO NOT GO !!!
instead of giving out numbers for the trucks, so you can spend time on other rides and come at the time that your truck is scheduled (numbers like they give out in most public wait lines) they make you stand in line for 3 to 4 hours!!
Try doing that with three kids!!!!
Every body complains SIX FLAGS don't care!!
THIRD WORLD SAFARI !!!

It was horrible experience boring even for the children. You have to wait hours in the lines and after that you go on some track and you can see the animals far away lay down on the ground most of the time.
It use to be that you can ride with your own car and it was very nice, just too bad that they cenceled it.

Good variety of animals, the tour guides were very friendly and knowledgable.trucks were not bad, a little bumpy but to be expected

This was a great tour. The animals were interesting and the tour guides did an excellent job of explaining all about them. Would like to have stopped at each animal place a little longer but they must have a schedule to adhere to.

Don’t waste your time on that safari, unless you like looking at animals in small cages. I guess I’m so used to going to Disney and seeing their set up for their safari at animal kingdom. I didn’t expect it to look like theirs because well it’s disney! However I thought they would have had a section that looked like the savanna for the African animals and so on, but it was just patchy brown grass. I hope they fix the safari in the future seeing how they have all that land. Very sad and depressing looking safari. Once we entered into the gates in the safari I wish I could have gotten off immediately. Even my 10 year old noticed how depressing it was.

Came here with the family and every minute spent on this safari was awesome! After making a line for about half an hour, jumped on the back of a military style truck and off we went on our journey!
I was amazed by how many different animals they have on the premises. The ride in goal is about 45 minutes where you will get so see Lions, Tigers, water buffaloes, bison, Impalas, ostriches, cranes, Rhinos, kangaroos, black and brown bears, Elephants, Zebras, giraffes, a variety of Rams, Buffaloes, etc.
our kids were in awe after having the chance to experience animals of the wild so close to them. However, that awesomeness didn't prevent us from being sad due to the fact that the elephants and other species have very little space to go around their business; but we were told that most of those animals were rescued from circuses and other places where they were being neglected and abused. This part gave us some type of peace.
My advice is, when you go to great adventures, put the Safari as the first thing to do, because is something that is worth seeing, specially if you are on a family trip.

This is such an amazing safari tour. You get up close and personal with the many animals they have like bears, lions, tigers, kangaroos, giraffes, birds, cattle, hippos, rhinos and many others. There is a break halfway through where you can get out use the restroom, buy merchandise and see other animals like snakes, goats and more. There are photo ops too when you stop. You ride in an open top vehicle and they drive right up to the animals. It is so much fun and you can get some great photos. Would definitely recommend anyone to take a trip.

We enjoyed the safari, it was a pleasant experience, we went on an off day so the crowds were better.

I'm not big on taking wild animals into captivity in general. Having said that, if you want to see lots of wildlife, this park has a great many animals and they were, for the most part, all outside and visible despite 100-degree heat. Not sure if that's good for the animals, but it made for happy visitors.

I really enjoyed seeing all the animals and didn't know Six Flags had so many endangered species. The whole experience was great and getting to interact with the animals.

This is not worth anymore. Earlier we used to drive thru and it is really good but now they take you thru and not much fun at all.
Now I see that it is more of money making business. If there is no queue then you can try otherwise skip this ride.

The safari. Is awesome you use ur own car at a very slow speed. With audio. Lots of animals roaming free. Great place

This was definitely the highlight of our vacation! We got to see lots of animals and they all looked healthy and cared for! Seeing all the babies and feed the giraffes at the center was awesome!

The Safari is excellent. I was amazed at how many animals, and how many different species there were. The trip through it does take awhile, but it was worth it. The layout is great, you go from area to area in a large truck. As you enter a new area, it is set up to feel like you are in the natural habitat of the animals in that are

Pleasant ride guide was knowledgeable and friendly. Line was bad as we went on the safari not to long after it opened

If this was the one in the park we highly recommend it! We did not do the drive on your own because years ago we saw monkeys ripping things off from peoples cars! Go directly to this attraction when you enter the park! Earlier in the day it is cooler and you will most likely see more of the animals! Lots of fun and have your camera ready!

We didn't like having to wait in line again half way through as they drop you at a viewing souvenir area. We just want to get done an keep going. This burned an extra 15 minutes. The animals were nice though.

I like the fact that it has become part of the park, actually a ride.
Found it to be fun and also interesting . I like the fact the trucks are open so much better then driving through in your closed up car, you get to feel you are with the animals, a lot closer
Overall a fun 30 minutes, didn't stop at the mid point
Best was the bears..

I am one of the safari drivers and I don't want that to sway your opinion. But, the kids just seem to love it. We take you semi-off road, where we are permitted to leave the roadway. There is a camp you can see animals up close and personal. You can schedule 3 hour private tours and feed the animals. My hint go first thing in the morning before the lines get too long. Not unheard of lines being 3 - 4 hours long, first time we opened they were close to 7 hours. 1 day for 1 ride crazy.

The kids had a great time!.. they do have a lot of animals. We took great pictures. The only bad thing is the ride is very bumpy, so if you have back problems be careful.

my husband and i took this ride. it was not as good as i thought it would be. an unlike the commercials, there is no interaction with any animals unless you get off at the half way point and pay MORE money to feed the giraffes. no monkeys jumped all over as another reviewer wrote.

Great experience. A little long , but worth the ride. You could speed it up by not exiting the bus for feeding giraffes and small zip line attraction (these are additional $) It's a nice break from the park if you want to sit back and look at animals.

I really enjoy the safari. Always have. Unfortunately for me, I don't like the safari trucks as well. I miss driving through at my own pace, with air conditioning. The upside is that you get much closer to the animals. Tour guides provide very good information along the tour.

Giraffe section closed off it was our main interest, most disappointing as was the rest of the tour. We do not recommend.

We went on a cloudy day that did rain a little bit for about an hour. Because of this the park was empty. We brought light rain jackets, and the kids got to go on the rides as many times as they wanted. There were no lines at the rides, no lines at the restaurants and it only rained a little. We had a great day and didn't mind paying the expensive entrance fee because everyone got to go on all the rides they wanted numerous time.

Katelyn is an outstanding narrator/ guide whom is very informative, knowledgeable about the animals and friendly. She made it such a pleasure to enjoy the safari.

We LOVED the safari! Informative tour guides who had endless bouts of information made the already exciting ride even more exciting. Halfway through the stop at Camp Adventura gave us a break from a bouncy ride and a chance to see some other animals and get a snack. Definitely do this earlier in the day. We waited for about 30mins around noon, and when we got back at 1 the wait was an hour long. Will definitely be going back next time I’m there!

I don't care for zoos. This sarafi doesn't have animals in cages. They roam freely which is nice. Great way for children to see animals while comfortably seated in the car with snacks and juices. Kids will love it when the monkeys climb on the car. Highly recommend this safari for younger children.

A very unique type of place...no where else in NJ can you see allt hese animals up close...its a cool experience for animals lovers!

The first time i experienced the Safari at Six Flags i was inside a car and quite frankly it was not very fun and adventerous. To my surprise my second visit was the total opposite, i learned that the Safari was no longer done with one owns car. This time it was more of a real experiennce, a all terrain vehicle took us through every exhibit while experincing the closes thing to Africa. It was a one of a kind experience, if i had to do it all over i would. The Safari has many species of animals, Elephant's, Gazelle's, Rhino's, Giraffe's, Ostrich, Zebra's, Lion's, Tiger's, and a very intriguing creature, a ant eater. The entire family had a very good time.

No matter what time we go, there is always a significant wait time to go on the Safari. The sheer number of large animals is awe inspiring. If you get a good guide ( one that gives actual little known facts-like increasing or decreasing number of a particular animal in the wild or captivity,) your ride can be great. If not, you're just riding through with a guide that doesn't give much info, then its just a nice ride in a big vehicle looking at the animals. In about 8 times on the Safari, I've experienced 1 that horrible (I was in the 2nd row and couldn't hear him- he wouldn't answer questions, and looked like he didn't want to be there.) Even the guide that lost her voice midway through was pleasant, professional, and gave facts that most on the Safari had never heard. Kids usually enjoy this. The baby animals always receive a big response. As do, the giraffes, lions, and bears. The Zip Line was ok-not quite what I expected. You can feed some animals at the half point stop over. Hopefully, one day they can just eliminate the lines.

It's a good time driving through the safari. Just be careful, the animals do come close to the vehicles.

Nice morning drive with animals. Get there early, to avoid traffic and to see the most animals, since they are more active before noon.

The good. Kept clean. Lots of rides suitable for all. Safari great. Breeding giraffes fun and great experience. Lots of food venues and restaurants. Staff nice. Pleased with day time crowd. Lots of roller coasters.
The bad. Parking cost is ridiculous. Crowd not so nice at around 5:00 - 5:30. I would go during day. It was 92 when we were there with heat index of 105. They should use concrete instead of asphalt. Three ice cream cones cost 18.00! Come on! Expensive to get in so, I would recommend an annual pass. Food outrageous cost. They are not Disney. Some rides cost extra in addition to entrance fee. Many in fact.
Tiring and hard to do in one day. Annual pass if you want to go often and live near.
No light at exit either. Bad when there USA mass exodus.

We had an AWESOME time in the safari today! The lines moved smoothly and the staff was very friendly! There were so many animals to see and it was so fun to see them up close and personal. The kids were enthralled with seeing all the animals interacting in their own habitats. We would definitely recommend this trip- especially for families with children. We were in and out of the park within an hour and a half even though it is a busy season now! All in all it was a perfect day!!

10/10 the worst experience I have ever had at Six Flags. You're cramped in to a truck with a million people and it’s shoulder to shoulder. On our ride in particular, an entire family cut in front of us in front of the woman controlling the line and she said nothing. She just let it happen. That family then continued to ignore the rules the entire time and were obnoxious and loud. I understand the actions of the family aren’t the parks fault but if we could still just drive through it never would have been a problem. Also the employees were rude and all had the attitude of someone whose dog was just ran over. One family was told their passed “just didn’t work” and wasn’t allowed to go on the safari. One of our passes, that has been used multiple times this year already, wasn’t registered. They have completely destroyed the safari experience.

We were among the first on this ride in the morning and walked right on. They have a ton of animals and they were all out roaming. So awesome to see so many living 'free'. Loved the walk-thru area too

I booked the VIP safari tour for my best friends birthday and it was truly incredible! Three of us attended and we really felt like VIP's the whole way through! We were greeted by our tour guide Tom. He was extremely informative about every single animal. He was super friendly as well as patient with us and answered all of our questions and made sure we got as much time with each animal as we wanted. During the tour there were awesome surprises including feeding giraffes and elephants, petting a rhino, seeing lions and tigers up close, and so so much more! This tour is totally worth the money! I highly recommend it for any animal lovers!

So entertaining! Our guides were very knowledgeable and truly seemed to enjoy their jobs! Definitely a fun and exciting improvement over the old self-drive-through safari!

Loved the Safari ride immensly. Many different animals throughout the ride. Only problem was how rough some of the roads were

Really fun place. Used to be able to just go in your own car, which was really fun. Such a huge assortment of beautiful animals! Definitely recommend! Rating: 78/100.

For me, the Safari was definitely the highlight of my day at Six Flags Great Adventure. I love Giraffe and there are so many more animals I fell in love with by the end of the Safari. The Safari was actually very educational and all of my kids ages 22, 11, 8 loved it!

I cannot believe it took me a total of 3 hours wait time before I was able to get the tour. In order to enter the park, there was an 2 hour wait. How incompetent are the employees that cannot move the line along faster? Shouldn't there be a better way to get the lines moving faster? How about enforcing lines instead of letting people create their own waiting lines. Then another hour wait to see the animals during the safari. How can anyone find this entertaining? By the time I was able to see the animals, I was exhausted from all the waiting. I bought a one day pass and I can surely say, I will never go to Six Flags ever again and will make sure to tell all my friends about this experience so they don't have to suffer.

It should be seperate from G.A.
safari is good. I LIKE THE Truck tour. Makes the experience more fun. No waiting behind individual cars. Too bad its part of The amusement park. Kind.of makes you hate the entire place.

Very nice animals. Very friendly staff. You can get off at the halfway point in feed giraffes🐾🐆🍎. See a lot animals that are extinct in the wild🐾🐃. A very a great experience🐒.

Totally worth visiting. Don't skip it. I went on a day with an overcast the animals were actually up and moving all over the place. Bears were swiming, Lions were playing and laying on their backs like house cats and tiger were running parallel to the vehicle we were in. Awesome!

a bit different now that you have to climb into their trucks, its really just another way for them to get cash out of you while making you pay for parking. used to be nice to drive down go thru then go home .. .but now get hit for the 10$ parking first

Amazing safari a lot of animal all kind of animal.
The tour guide is very profecional and the story a biut the animal is realy fan

Don't let the roller coasters block your view, do the safari first. The staff is incredible especially the tour drivers. We had two great ones. Stop at the midpoint camp and visit. Ask the staff questions and definitely feed the giraffes. Well designed and again the staff is open, friendly and knowledgeable. Great for all ages, especially younger kids.

the attraction itself was good, the employees could be better informed and friendlier, i didn't like the fact that we were told we had to get off at the half way point and then you have to stand inline once again to get back on, and while in line we seen a truck that gave some of the riders an option that was crazy overall had a good time.

This was my first time driving through the Six Flags Great adventure's Safari. We went in the car with six passengers including two young children during covid 19. We had a reservation for 9:45 a.m. and it took about two hours to go through. It was about 5 miles per hour and we saw quite a number of animals. In fact somewhere very close up to the car such as the giraffe and the the ostriches. We all enjoyed it very much. The price is quoted at $20 per passenger and free for children under 2. However it's much more because the weekends are about $24 per person and then there's a processing fee and tax on top of it and everything is done online. You have to make your reservations in advance. They said 24 hours but I would do it a little earlier because time slots are filled up very quickly. There was one Porta-Potty along the way which we had to stop at. The attendance sprayed it for cleanliness after each person. We really did have a nice time.

You get in an open air army truck with a guide that educates each guest and will answer any questions you might have. There is one stop where you get off and can roam around. You can see snakes, baby lions, feed the giraffes and go on a zip line. This is a great experience for adults and kids alike.

It a great start to our visit to Six Flags New Jersey. We enjoyed the Safari ride and the crazy monkeys made it so special at the end. Highly recommended to young kids!

This safari was amazing. I cannot believe it is included with the entrance to Six Flags. We really didn't do any of the rides. We mostly went for the safari. There was one rude employee when we were getting ready to board the vehicle again who shouldn't be working there but I was not going to let that ruin my trip with my girls. You get to see animals close up that you regularly would see at a zoo only from far away.

Our 3 and 5 year loved seeing the animals. I would get there early and get it done first before it gets too hot or the line gets long. There is a part in the middle or the tour where you can get off and walk around a small park. I probably would have skipped this and just stayed on the truck. Once you're done you have to wait in line to get back on another truck to finish the safari.

I had great things about the safari park how cool it would be. We stood in line for hour and a half in 90 degree weather with hardly any shade. Two tents and water mister at the front of the line. I watched people pass out from being to hot also watched people jump the line. Got told by security that those people had a flash pass and that they could do that. That's not true when you get a flash pass you go in through the exit completely surpassing the line the people that are jumping the line are gambling that you don't know the difference. Staff is rude they seem like they really don't care. We took two kids and they had to sit in the middle so they couldn't really see the animals. The driver was in some kind of rush. We found out from another couple that when you take the tour your not supposed to see the other trucks our driver rushed so much that the girl couldn't tell us anything about the animals. Its supposed to take roughly an hour to do the tour I stood in line longer then the tour lasted I'd say because of driver it took him 20 minutes tops in fact when we pulled up at the end of the tour the manager said to the driver your back sooner then you should be next time slow it down. I submitted a complaint I have yet to hear anything back & I doubt I will seems that the owners of the park only care about getting money. The park as a whole looks out dated and poorly maintained the rides break down frequently the paint on the rides is faded and rusted. The animals didn't look to healthy but then again I'm not a vet if it was hot for a human I couldn't imagine what it was like for a bear or a lion there wasn't even shade for them. This place is waste of time and money. Don't waste your time or your money and don't complain because they don't care and it shows how much they don't care.

It was so much nicer when you could drive through the safari yourself. Saw so much more and did not have to wait on lines.

Many species of animals to see and learn about. A large vehicle takes you through the area to see the animals, some very up close and personal. Area where you can feed the animals too. Roads can some times be bumpy.

This was a great way to spend a few hours with the kids. The lines are a bit long but a great way to experience some wild life.

You have to ride in an open air post war military vehicle that allows the visitor to smell and see animals who are not well taken care of, years ago you brought your car through and bought new wipers and moldings due to damage by monkeys, now only you suffer the damage by seeing them in a sad state, a shame

The animals are great and the staff are wonderful with the children! The ride is more comfortable than I thought but bumpy as expected.

I loved my trip through the safari. Nice beautiful animals. A garaffi wal right I. Front. We fed a garaffi half way through but he left before we could take a picture. Awesome tour guide. I must go back and upgrade to see baboons.....

I am a Disney freak, and will admit it. When I saw the safari I remembered the animal kingdom safari- so I wanted to go.
Number one- I should have never compared the 2. Apples and oranges.
I guess what I really did not like was that it was fairly obvious that the animals are "pushed" out into the open so that they can be seen. At the other safari that I've been to- we enter their habitat, if they don't want to be out so be it. Here- it just felt forced.
Do not be fooled into going to the camp area in the middle of the ride. All it is is a big tourist trap- you will be asked to spend money to do anything there. The worst part- is that you need to get back on a truck. We had to wait almost 40 minutes because there were not enough seats on most of the trucks that came through to allow people on to go back to the base area.
I really don't think I would do this again-- unless I had just eaten lunch and wanted an activity to do prior to going back on the coasters!

We had to wait almost 2 hours and then you sit in a truck and travel through a mostly open park. Nothing really special to see. Most of the animals are resting as they do in the summer sun. At the halfway point they have a gift shop with truck stop food. It really wasn't worth the time. My Boys were 11 and 15 at the time and love zoo's. They have never asked to go back.

If you like spending over two hour in bumber-to-bumber, stop-and-go traffic then this "safari" is for you. Otherwise, stay away. We went about a month ago when the safari first opened and it wasn't that bad. It took about 75 minutes to get through and you saw a lot of animals. Since then, they have overbooed it. I returned today and we spent about two and a half minutes in a traffic jam. By the end I was getting road rage. Save your sanity and avoid this traffic jam.

Six flags is where it's at!!! If your into thrill rides and a whole lot of family fun. You have to go too six flags NJ. No doubt!! We bought season passes for the first time and we figured if you go twice it pays for itself plus in the summer they have a water park!! Then fright fest and x-mas in the park. Unlimited parking. It's well worth it. Get there early to beat the lines or go after 5 in the afternoon. And you can get on all the rides. It's a must go!!

This is part of Six Flags Great Adventure. We actually have teens AND young children and the safari pleased them all. Lots of animals. My 4 year old was excited to see his favorite (rhinos) up close and personal! So many babies too! Total experience is probably an hour or more.
The ride can be a little bumpy, be warned!
There is a stop in the middle. It's pretty obvious they are hoping you will spend money here (gift shop, giraffe feeding, zip line, food...and the picture they took of you!) but you don't have to. There are bathrooms and a small play area. There are several reptiles, birds, a bear cub (when we were there), pigs and tortoises. Depending on what you decide to do here you can easily add 30 min. to an hour to your safari. Then you have to wait in line again (shorter though) to get back on the truck.
The second half is literally lions and tigers and bears. I think there were some kangaroos. All the animals are out in the open except the tigers. That was neat.
Overall a really good experience. We were told in line that the picture was part of the trip. So we took one instead of refusing it. But really it is a $15 purchase if you actually want to take the picture home. That was misleading. But the safari was fun and the animals were really neat!

Probably is not what you really expect (or for me it wasn’t what I had expected), but you can see a lot of animals free during your ride in a shuttle. Is not like safari in Africa, but is nice. I think for children is a very nice experience.

So being a Jersey native and a season pass holder for a few years now I have experienced the drive through version of the safari and this new version.
The only thing that can be said is that this is horrible. The waiting, the money grab and the lack of animals is just amazing. After waiting nearly 2 hours (short by many accounts) we took a picture and proceeded onto the loading area. After waiting another 10 to 15 minutes we were bumped because of the famous fast pass holders. Thankfully we were able to get on the next bus and start our "adventure". Needless to say this consisted of a very avg guide and very few animals. The highlight or should I say lowlight of the adventure was the truck bouncing around while my kids (3 and 5) are being thrown around like rag dolls on rock hard seats. 10 minutes after the start they pull into this "station" that has food, some terrible animals and the money grab (feeding giraffes and a "zip line") and lastly bathrooms. So we get off and look at a pig and go to the potty. We decide to get back on the truck but low and behold we have to wait in line to get back on. So we wait another 15 minutes and we are back on the truck. We see a few animals and the ride is over.
One word that describes this experience/ride is HORRIBLE!! I will never ever do it again. Maybe if they paid me $500 but other then that its over. I would love to find the person who goes back on this ride after doing it once. Dont waste your time. The Safari is over.

Amazing. The drive was about 90 Minutes’s 5mph. It was amazing how close the animals were to us. Some of them would cross the road between the cars. Sometimes the audio does not match the scene because the animals move around.

We had a enthusiastic and informative guide which made the experience more enjoyable. They have a good variety of animals (giraffes, lions, tigers, bears), yup, oh my. Our 9 year old niece loved it, as did we.

There's a very long 2 hour wait in the sun & heat to board the Jeep for the Safari but it is the best feature at Six Flags. Lions, bears, old elephants, & some extinct animals. Get in line 1st when you arrive & be prepared to walk long distances to get there. Water park requires separate ticket, don't waste time riding over there without it. Ride the spinning cups, you'll have a ball. Water logs looked like fun but the line was too long. Good luck getting rides for your handicapped to the check in, the Park is not customer focused. Dress for the weather.

I really enjoyed this part of the Six Flags Jackson New Jersey. I expected a few more animals but overall I was very happy. I would go again in a heartbeat. The employees seems to know a lot about the animals and explained very well. They were very friendly all the employees seem to really want to answer all your questions. I would recommend going as soon as you get there, the lines do get long. I got there first thing in the morning and there was no line on a week day.

it was losing its funnnness when they locked up the monkeys and you could not feed them. Now you get totally different experience. its more like a wanna bee safari tour but I guess its better for the monkeys but not us. just get the speedpass and ride the coasters you hammer head!!

If you are going to do this I would recommend doing it first thing. At 4 they actually had to close the line since they had to many people on the line to go on the safari and they were open another 4 hours. The safari is an awesome experience we had giraffes come right up to the truck. If you want for a fee you could go on a private tour of the safari.

Guess it was because of the holiday weekend, but it seemed more crowded than usual.. All in al it was a good day.

Go early. We went during the holiday weekend July 4th and waited only 15 minutes to get in. The key is to arrive early (we got there 10:15). When we left around 11:45am, traffic was backed up waaaaaay past the entrance down the highway and looked like it was a long wait. So if you want to have to an easier time on a weekend make sure you go early

Long lines over 2 hrs line(atlest 50 min line in open sun -brutal) for 45 min tour.
Just ruins half of the day and, you are not left with enough time for other rides.

I know the lines are long and the kids are hot or tired and don't want to wait but if they can just hold it out, it's definitely worth it all!!!! I saw more animals and learned more than I would at my local zoos, there's a stop 1/2 way through, get out and feed the giraffes, look at snacks and reptiles! Enjoy, I promise it's worth every minute during the wait! My son had a blast!!!!

I rated poor ONLY for the fact of the pricing. To pay $39.99 per person not per car load is crazy. The baboons were behind cages, the bears were also. for a family of 4 just doing to drive thru safari is $160. Glad I went once because I will NOT go again. These parks are costing families a fortune when times are tough.

Our group of 5 ranged in age from 10 to 46 and we each had a wonderful time. Even my 12 year old son-- who only wanted to ride roller coasters and was mad we made him go with us-- enjoyed the safari! David, our guide on the last half of the trip, was so much fun and really interactive with the group. His personality and commentary totally made the experience!
We somehow managed to not have any wait time, despite being there at about 11:30. Maybe the heat scared everyone away?!? Our gain! Perfect experience seeing all the animals! Be prepared for a bumpy ride!

The Safari was a uniquely rare chance to view an impressive range of wild animals outside of an old-fashioned zoo. The ride in the truck gives you a bit of a tussle, but is generally fun and educational, as an enthusiastic announcer guides the tour. I was particularly enthralled by witnessing a small fight between two brown bears, and it really gave the feeling of being out in the wild.
My only real complaint is that I wish that the Safari environment itself was more attractive. To be honest, it appeared rather drab and in some spots even somewhat barren. I found this a tad bit depressing, as I felt for the animals that have to live there. Perhaps I should give the benefit of the doubt and chalk it up to the sparse rainfall we've had in New Jersey this summer, which apparently has made all the grass go brown and dry.

We were having a horrible day in the rest of the park and decided to take a chance on the safari. It used to be a stand alone but they made it a ride because people kept feeding the animals.
There is an outpost in the middle of the trip. You can eat, get drinks, use the facilities and even feed the giraffes.
This alone is worth the trop.

We visited the drive thru safari during the COVID 19 pandemic. After purchasing tickets, I attempted to make an online reservation, but the system was not functioning properly. After several emails and phone calls, I finally made a reservation. The website stated that capacity was limited by reservation time. The moment we approached the Six Flags exit, there was a several mile backup approaching the park. We assumed there was an accident, but the traffic was the start of an hour and half line just to approach the entrance to the safari. Once we entered the park, we waited about another hour in bumper to bumper traffic to enter the area where the animals were located. We were told that the safari should take approximately one hour to complete. Three hours later, we cheered as we finally approached the exit. During the safari, you are stuck in a bumper to bumper two lane traffic jam and you are unable to escape. Desperate for food and bathroom facilities, we were exhausted and miserable. In a normal situation with a reasonable crowd, the animals were interesting and engaging. The safari itself was certainly adequate, but given the disorganization of the crowd and the fact that the activity took 4 hours longer than advertised, it was a disgraceful experience. The website also asks you to prepay a fee of $20 for parking. I almost paid, but then realized that it was a ridiculous fee and did not seem warranted. They never asked for the parking fee. The day was a claustrophobic jam of people desperately seeking entertainment during the pandemic. Don’t be fooled! We paid over $100 for our party of five to enter the safari and we all agreed that we would have paid double if we could have gotten out of that horrific jam after the first 10 minutes.

Kids were very excited to go for this but had to wait in hot sunny day for more than 90minutes. Even though some part of the lines are covered..be prepared with your caps a sunglasses. The drive is an amazong experience and we also had great time with feeding the giraffe and the eagle ride was awesome experience. Elephants/deers/tigers/lions/Kangaroos/wild buffalis/bears/giraffe/Zebra/rhinos protected in natural habitat is an amazing experience

The last time I was in the safari I drove my own car through the compound, they changed that, now they put in big trucks and drive you around the park. This was I don't have monkeys pulling parts off my car. Interesting but with the cooler weather some animals are getting ready to hibernate. I think if some of the kids want to feed the giraffes it should be free.

My husband and I wanted to end our vacation on a fun note so we decided to do a Park. I would recommend the Safari a million times over! EXCELLENT Amazing time!!!! Very much worth the price. Tip: Buy tickets on line and save $20 must be able to print! Mobile purchase will be $69. We went on a weekday and the wait for the safari was about an hour. Very well worth it! The guides are knowledgable and very friendly! Everyone seemed to Love their job. Lots to see I especially enjoyed the Elephants and the Bears. The Zip Line ride was not all that! Food and drinks are very expensive. Lots to eat but costly!! Example: 2 small Rita's ices were almost $10. 2 bottles of water $6. Funnel cake and a lg soda $15, burger, fries and lg soda $12.50. So, If you want to save money, pack lunch and drinks. You can't bring any food or drinks into the park but, You can have your hand stamped go to the car eat lunch and return to enjoy the rest of the park. But, if you don't care than what the heck- it's VACATION TIME. ENJOY.

Kids love the Safari. Warning if you want to visit the Safari you ha e to be on the line 3 hours before sundown before they close it down.
It does not run until the park closes. Take note of my advice.

The safari ride was my favorite. I love animals so that was right up my alley. You can feed the giraffes. A little upkeep needed but otherwise fun.

Up close and personal and best yet- safe during covid restrictions. It was entertaining and the staff made it super easy

Take a step into Africa with this crazy tour including exotic animals. Did not expect to see this in New Jersey! definitely good for kids

The park was wonderful and great for the teenagers not the younger kids. They enjoyed the safari and funnel cake sundaes. What a blast on my pocket!!! #Anything for the kids.

We took the safari mid-day on a Tuesday and waited about 45 minutes. The tour is about 40 minutes and there is a tour guide. Ours was Jen. She seemed very knowledgable about the animals and they looked well cared for.

The last time I went on this safari was close to 15 years ago. Back then you drove your own car though the exhibit and it was not special. Now that six flags took a page from Disney and made it a off road adventure in a truck. The experience is so much better. First off I liked that I can see and get close to some of the animals. Most of the animals are free roaming and you get that up close experience. About halfway though the ride they have a drop off point right in the middle of the safari where you can feed some animals and have a more up close experience. The ride is about 45 minutes to an hour. However it is well worth it. It’s best to do this when the ride first opens as the line gets long quick and you could be waiting up to two hours to get on it.

We arrived and we go first on the Safari, was really funny, the guy was funny and make the ride more funny.
All the animal was beautifull and sometime i fell to be in the savana.
The good experience was to give the food at giraffa, for $6 a person.

This used to be a drive through Safari, but now is a ride attraction in the main theme park. It is still a great way to see the many animals. The only down side is the line is usually long and slow to get on.

We stayed at the Savanah Sunset glamping
It was truly amazing! Our tent was incredible, the food was amazing and we played corn hole and made s’mores at night. They have a complete bar and the service thru out the sunset safari was 5 star!
Your stay includes a safari tour, and that is great, but we bought the VIP tour and u recommend that above everything.
Our guide was Patrick, and it was 90 minutes of pure thrills. We got up close to the animals in the comfort of a Rover.
Your stay includes admission to both theme parks on two days.
It is pricey but so so worth it!
This is pricey but it is do worth it!

We read many reviews that we shouldn’t waste our time and should save our money. Our original reservation was for 12:45pm due to a morning conflict but after reading reviews of long wait times and tons of traffic, we changed to date so we could choose a 9am start. We went this past Saturday and had a really fun time. No wait times, the animals were being fed and were mostly active. A giraffe, a bunch of bison, and some type of goat (about 20 of them) all walked right in front of our. We even saw a male and female rhea mate! The whole tour took about an hour and 15 minutes. Then we went to have breakfast at a nearby diner. Fun morning activity!

The new jeeps are great. Way more interactive now. Kids love it, especially the giraffes. Lines were long, but thats expected with anyothing at six flags.

I really enjoyed this the animals are smelly though and if your lucky you may see the birds matting dance

2 hour line to ride a really bumpy truck jammed with 30 people for less than 30 minutes. Waste of time and just not fun.

We went on this "ride" because we had never been on it before, and it ended up being one of the highlights of that day. The guide was awesome and I was happy that the animals are so close to you as you ride by. We never wanted to do this when we had to take our own car, but since they provides the trucks now, this is a ride I would go on again. Too hot to get out at the "camp" in the middle of the ride, as there doesn't seem to be any shade there, so we'll do that after the weather gets nicer this fall.

Just to be clear to all those not familiar with this place, this is the safari INSIDE Great Adventure. There is no separate entrance, you get here from inside Great Adventure, which is extremely expensive without a season pass or discounts.
This is the old safari that you were able to drive through in your own car, but a few years ago it was changed so they drive you through. In addition to a guide that explains all about the animals, they added a building at the halfway point that has bathrooms, animal feeding, a zipline, and the typical touristy crap in the gift shop. If you go to Great Adventure, you should check this out at least once. Cool experience.

and it was ruined by taking away the option to drive through with your own car. Bad, bad idea.....Huge disappointment!

Trip was very very informative and nicer than when hubby and I went 20yrs ago. I am very disappointed not to see any monkeys but was told they were on site.

The safari was amazing and could’ve been a completely separate attraction from Six Flags Great Adventure. It truly made our day and is very different from Great Adventure. The employees were very-knowledgeable and came up to you and asked if you had any questions. They were very nice! The animals were very active and happy. There were lots of animals and a variety. They told the stories of the animals. Please note there is no barrier between the safari car and most of the animals. We spent a good 1 1/2-2 hours, and we were surprised how amazing it was. You stop halfway through the safari at a little camp with food, drinks, restrooms and additional animals + experiences. The food and drinks were in our six flags dining plan which was another bonus. I would definitely recommend this!

I loved the safari and it was amazing to see all of the animals living together. They seemed very free and happy and really quite content with their habitat overall.
I think that the only thing that I wasn't happy with was the fact that the you couldn't see all the animals from both sides of the vehicle. So you basically had to ride the vehicle twice and sit on opposite sides each time just to make sure you could really see all of the animals. That's the only part I wasn't pleased with.
The line for the ride is also extremely long. Usually well over an hour wait unless you get there first thing in the morning or have a flash pass. I can see why it's such a popular attraction however. It's worth the wait, no doubt about it. It's also well worth the price of the flash pass if that's the route you take.
The only major issue with the attraction is that you have to pay extra to get close or to feed the giraffes. With the cost of park tickets alone, there shouldn't be extra fees to do what you've basically already paid for. I paid for all of the park attractions and rides when I bought the ticket.
However, besides the giraffes, you also had to pay for the zip line ride. The price for that was outrageous!! It was like $10 per person for a maybe 1 minute ride up a short distance and right back down. Not impressive and not worth the extra money. The additional fees for these things make me feel very ripped off. They're part of the park, they shouldn't cost extra.

Great safari ride. Expect to spend at least an 1 1/2 on the ride. Wait can be long if you catch it on the wrong day. Lots of fun for the whole family.

Few things to remember - line closes as it gets close to dark
Line can be long so bring water
Ride is broken into two parts with a pit stop in-between
Sitting in the back of the truck can be bumpy and smells of exhaust the entire time

Let me tell you as a mom of two kids this place really makes me want to stay home but i had to suck it up because the kids loved it looking at animals yeah real nice but let me tell you its not like it used to be when you could bring your car but overall its really nice.

The Safari is no longer a stand-alone, drive through attraction. It is now part of Six Flags Great Adventure and I don't think it should have it's own category any longer. But since it does, I will comment.
Price for the safari is included with park admission. There are extras that you can pay for if you stop at Camp Adventura.
Prior to this weekend, we’ve never done the current safari because the lines were long and we preferred going on the roller coasters. We finally went this weekend – went first thing when it was not crowded - and found it was a great experience. It’s obvious they are trying to compete with other parks like Disney and are doing a good job. I enjoyed the safari as much as Animal Kingdom’s in Orlando. The ride was comfortable and we got a good view of a lot of animals from all over the world including giraffes, bears, kangaroos and more.
We got off ½ way through at Camp Aventura. For a small fee, we fed the giraffes and did the Soaring Eagle zipline. Free things to see at Camp Adventura included an anteater, bear cubs, a lion cub and small birds and reptiles.
I had done the safari several times as a drive-through, but find that the Safari Off Road Adventure is much better. The guide makes the ride much more enjoyable & educational and being in the open safari “jeep” makes it more fun too.
If you are a coaster lover, Great Adventure is the place to be; The roller coasters are worth the price, but you may have to choose coasters over the safari if you have only one day at the park, there just isn’t as much time and the safari can take up 2 or more hours.

Lot of fun for 3 year old let them seat at end they are safe and can clearly see. Stop at middle is cute chance to get close to griiaffe.lines can be very long to try to time it right

Included in our VIP tour of the park we enjoyed the safari. It's a quick opportunity to see some amazing animals. The Bears were swimming in their hole and lions lounging next to the fence which gave us a good vantage point. We opted to stop half way and enjoy feeding the giraffes. They were cute. Kids loved it. They had lion cubs and a baby European bear for viewing. All in all we loved the animals.

First off, let me say that I never visited the Safari when you drove through on your own. It seems that a lot of the negative comments are from people who have driven through before and have emotional attachments and family stories which is understandable. The old way never seemed appealing to me, kinda like sitting in a traffic jam in a zoo. It was also unsafe for the animals due to constant exhaust and of course people not following the rules by rolling down windows, feeding/taunting animals and such.
The park advises that you should try to get to the safari early if it is a must-ride for you. We arrived around 12:30 and had about a 45 minute wait. The "safari vehicles" are authentic, they are actual military surplus trucks and not "buses" as many people call them. The ride was bumpy, but that's the point.
People complain that the tour doesn't stop when they want it to. Personally I believe that the pacing was very good. The vehicles are spaced out enough that you are not constantly seeing other vehicles. You are not simply sitting in a line of trucks moving through the park. This is a big plus for me. True the tour will not stop so you can stare a zebra for 30 minutes but it is by no means rushed. We got very good pictures of many of the animals. Thanks to carefully placed electric fences and some very large gates separating the areas, some of the bigger animals, like bears, are very close. The gates are actually operated by the wardens (in the Jurassic Park like zebra trucks). On our safari the bears tried to escape.
The halfway point allows you to get off the truck and visit with some smaller animals (birds, tortoises, potbellied pig, etc). You can also see the giraffes and zebras up close. (for those who stare at zebras for 30 minutes :P) This is also where they have the giraffe feeding. This is done at 12:30, 2:30, and 4:30. This is one of the main things we wanted to do on the safari. I was a little nervous reading some of the reviews about this part. However it was actually an amazing experience. This is a "value-added" attraction (six flags speak for "costs extra") $5 for season pass holders and $6 for everyone else. Nobody likes paying extra but it limits the crowds to those who really want to do it. The employees in this section were very nice and we didn't feel rushed at all. They let the three of us spend quite a bit of time with the giraffe and actually suggested that we try putting the sweet potato chunk in our mouth and feed it that way, epic.
Yes you have to wait to get back on the truck, but it is short, nothing like the original wait. Many people don't get off so you have to kind of fill in the seats.
For those who say that this attraction isn't as good as Disney Animal Kingdom, I would point out that the safari is FREE with your park admission. True you can't pay to do just the safari like before, but really people it's included in your admission. Adult gate price at Animal Kingdom is $90!
So in conclusion, yes the wait is long. Would I wait 3-4 hours for the Safari? No, that's why I plan ahead. If you roll up at 3 on a summer Saturday you're gonna have to wait, a long time, no getting around that. It would be nice if the wait were shorter, but there's just no way to get that many people through the safari without having the traffic jam experience. Oh, and the monkeys that everyone misses, they're coming back. You can stop freaking out, they'll be back causing havoc next year.

If you really love animals and don't mind spending a few bucks make sure you upgrade to the VIP Safari package. This package is found on their website under the VIP tab. You need to book a least a few day in advance just an FYI. Well worth the price!! Our guide John was excellent he knew almost every question we asked him. We were able to feed the bears, giraffes and elephants up close and personal! The tour lasted about 3 hours, such an amazing day!

Went on the Safari both days we went to the park. Read that people had really long waits but we went around 11-12 both days and didn't wait more then 20 mins either time.
Safari itself was great, guides were upbeat and knowledgable. The middle drop off point is optional but worth it if never done the Safari before. Some interesting animals including many snakes and a Giant Anteater. Best part was feeding the Giraffes. Cost $5/person but kids definitely enjoyed it. Overall was a great experience mostly bc i didn't wait long in line. I could see it being a bad experience if you need to wait in line in the sun for a long period of time. Kids do need to sit in the middle of the 5 seats so can be difficult for them to see at times if they are under 5 i'd say.

We were something similar to Animal Kingdom in Disney World, but this was huge. So many animals and the tour guide was fantastic. John, (as an Australian) Emu is pronounced,
'Ee-myou' not 'Ee-moo' :)

I've driven through this safari countless of times. I didn't get to go on the safari the last time I visited the park as it had turned into a ride with some very ridiculous planning issues. This whole park is just terrible these days.

Came with teenagers on the 6th April, nearly half of the attractions were closed and the rest were operating on and off, from lunch time to 20:30 we managed to do one attraction, as after waiting in the line for 2 and a half hours we were told that they can not fix a technical problem.
For the price we paid we axpected more!

Ok now I give you an honest review. I usually don't bother to write any reviews but this time I'm willing to spend some time just to let people know how ridicules the safari became now. We used to go there every year multiple times with two kids 5&3.5. So did we this year however when we get there it turned out the real safari on your own car adventure is no longer available, it's a part of the park now and everyone who's in a park can get there on a busses they provide. Great idea isn't it? Yes right! To the exception that now you have to stand on a line just to get to the bus is 3-4 hours!!!!! With kids, no toilets around, you have to go back through the whole line to get out to go to the bathroom. No food, no nothing. There are just a couple of busses circularing that is obvious not enough for the amount of the people. Basically by the time you get to the bus you don't even enjoy it. After all the whole ride is not even worth it. The ride is very fast, the bus doesn't stop to see the animals. It seemed that there are even less animals than before, no more monkeys. Gyraphs don't come close, it's just all different and the uniqueness of the whole traditional safari is not there any more. Then in the middle if the ride they force you to get out of the bus to go spend more money on other damn things and then wait another 20-30 minutes for the bus - just what you need after standing 3 hours in line. That is complete [--] what was done to the whole safari. Never again we go there and I do not recommend to anyone.

We went through this years ago when you could drive yourself through at your own pace. We took our son this time and now you have to ride on a "safari" vehicle. To start you get to wait in line in the hot sun instead of your air conditioning in your vehicle. Next you get herded onto a vehicle that has 5 seats across so if the animals are on one side you get no chance to see them. Then you come to the mid point of the tour and they have you get off so you can purchase a bunch of extras (we didn't), and see how poorly the animals are kept in dirty cages. Then the best part. You get to wait in line again in the hot sun... NO SHADE! Worst safari ever, and it's unfortunate since it used to be a 10!

Unlike olden days when visitors drove through the safari in their own vehicles, guests now ride aboard open-air trucks, so get ready to be bounced. Each truck has a guide to educate visitors about the animals they see and answer any questions. There is a location where guests can disembark, but it was closed the day I went. They have snakes and other animals you can get close to.
I like there is a place on the queue where you can take your own photo in front of a jungle backdrop. You can also get a photo taken at the mid-point drop off location, but it's very pricey (for me, anyway.) Be sure to get on line no later than a half hour before safari "closing" time. That way there are no riders boarding trucks after closing time.

In a world where everyone is stuck at home,a trip through 6 flags safari park can refresh your whole outlook on the world . Lots of animals in the safety of your own car. Reservations required as of 6-4-2020.

The safari off road was awesome! The giraffes walked right passed our truck and the animals were out in the open and not caged up. My family and I can't wait to do it again!

Every park associate we encountered was very rude and unfriendly. They were not helpful at all.lines took forever to get in the park let alone get into a particular attraction. Food was low quality and exorbitantly priced. Definitely jot money well spent.

I went there by the car, l enjoyed it very much, almost all the animals are free to go around your car.

The safari used to be better when you can drive your own car and take your time and enjoy. Now you get shoved an a safari bus with a bunch of people and zoom through so fast you can't see all the animals let alone try to take pictures. Even if this was free I would still not want to go back.

My first time going to 6 Flags NJ, my boyfriend has been before and was excited about the Safari little did he know since his last visit you are no longer allowed to drive through yourself so we got squished onto one of their trucks and, it pretty much sucked didn't even get that close to many animals and they went through so fast you didn't even have time to snap a picture smh complete waste of time drove all the way from CT waited an hour in line and the thing was over in about a half hour thats including the stop they do.

We came here during the height of covid and my children and I had a great time. It was open to private traffic for the first time in a long time, and we absolutely loved it.

I understand during this time there is not much for families to do, that being said Six Flags had way too many cars to really enjoy the drive through safari. There was not many exhibits and the safari looked unkempt, nothing to really see. It took way too long considering the drive to get there because of the amount of cars allowed in at one time. Very disappointing. Make sure if you go the children have things to do while waiting to see animals.

The safari and the theme park make Six Flags Great Adventure one of the best attractions around! Our guide was energetic and very enthusiastic about the animals and was engaging for the smaller children on-board the cart. There is a great variety of wildlife for visitors to see and they all seem happy and comfortable in their surroundings, which is always nice to see. Would definitely return.

First time on the off road safari and really enjoyed it. Parents with 2 boys ages 9 & 12. It was a very long wait to go on - over an hour - but because it was October and cool, it wasn't to bad. My recommendation is to make sure you have water/drink and a snack on the line for the long wait. Once on the "off road" vehicle with about 20 other people, it was a rough (in a fun way) and educational ride of abt an hour. Our guide was very informative and upbeat and told us some interesting facts about the animals, many of which we had never seen before. If you can stand the wait then definitely go on this adventure, it was very good.

Don't come. They just opened the park today, is a mess, nothing is working, the drive thru is not allowed and you have to take the trucks. There is only three trucks and over 300 people waiting in line. Over two hours waiting in line, we have a baby and they didn't even want to refund our tickets. What an unconsiderate joke of business. I complaint for the refund and they denied it in repeated times. Sam and Aiden (supervisors) totally unhelpful.

Think this is a great activity for little kids and teens. You go on this truck that fits about 25-30 ppl and go through the different regions of the park. The entire tour is fully guided and you get to see all of the animals you're supposed to see. The baby animals are the cutest, as always as they have baby zebras, buffalo, brown bears, deer, etc. However, you don't get to see the baboons unless you're on a VIP tour.

went over the summer to the Six Flags great adventure safari and got lucky and saw all the animals, a great family experience for sure!!

The view and professionalism of the staff is great! I was pleased with the safari. It took about 90 mins to get thru when you stop to feed the giraffes. Definitely the best part about great adventure.

This was so worth the wait. Way better than Disneys Safari in FL. Would highly recommend it. The wait is long but if you go first thing in the am making it your first ride than you should be good! So worth it for the kids!

We got to Great Adventure super early and were waiting in line for the park to open. The minute they opened the gates, we jetted off to the Safari ride. We wanted to be the first ones to get on the ride because the wait will become terrible later and they sometimes close early. It was the best decision as we were on the second truck and got the best seats, at the front. We got an awesome guide named Alex who has a deep voice that's just dreamy and sounds like he should voiceover those nature shows. His sense of humor throughout the ride was wonderful and made it so enjoyable. The animals were amazing, and I got to see so many up close! Sitting on the left side was best because a lot of animals seem to be on that side. The animals looked close enough to touch - rhinos, giraffes, elephants, ostriches, and much more. We didn't get to feed the giraffes but we didn't really mind. Loved it!

We really enjoyed the new safari. Next time we want to go back and feed the giraffes! I loved the mini zoo in the middle and loved the picture they take before you get on the truck. Lots of fun!

This was an excellent opportunity to see so many animals from all parts of the world up close my daughter is 8 loved this adventure we actually did it twice it gives you a realistic feel what a safari might look like in other parts of the world. The tour guides explain the origins and many facets about them. There was an opportunity, a must do, to stop off and learn more about and feed giraffes and see other exotic animals. The tour without the feeding is about 45 minutes over rugged terrain...

If you've never been, I highly recommend you go at least once. You'll need to get to the Safari first, once you enter the park because lines will easily get to a 2 hour wait time and will close completely around 5PM.
After a few failed attempts, we finally got on it. The guide was super knowledgeable and had plenty to tell us about each species. In the center of the reserve, there was a place to get off and had some interactions with the animals (I believe you can pay to feed the giraffes)
The nice thing is that it is included with your Six Flags ticket, so go at least once!

It is all new and is included in the cost of admissions. It is a great ride and lots of fun animals. It is worth the trip!

it was nice to interact with some of the animals, you have to be carefull they may damage your car, but it was nice

Bring back the car trails, away with the safari trucks.wait time to long , you must do this attraction early in the day.

As a gift to my mother for her 68th birthday, my husband and I brought her to Six Flags Great Adventure for a private VIP Safari Tour. We were so impressed by our tour guide, Ray, that we wrote the park president directly to tell him about the great experience. Ray was very friendly and knowledgeable, answered our many questions, and catered the tour to our specific interests. He and another tour guide, Jenn, went above and beyond to insure that we had the very best experience. Ray took us up as close as possible to all the animals. We were able to scratch a rhino behind his ears, have a private giraffe feeding, and learn about all the animals from their care takers. We learned about SFGA's conservation programs and how they're helping endanger species. It was just over three hours of education, endless laughs, and getting closer to the animals than we ever imagined. Mom said it was the BEST birthday ever!

Honestly this is the best safari I've ever seen, and I'm a Disney World girl. They pull over so you can see the animals up close, ask questions, and enjoy the safari! The animals all look happy and well cared for. The Safari workers love their job and are full of cool information. If you're lucky you'll get Ashley or Jeanette, the best Safari operators you'll find! I love that it's ADA accessible, you can stay in your wheelchair or transfer to a seat. GO you won't regret it!

The safari is great. Although I miss driving through I can understand the danger that imposed to the animals. I was disappointed not to see the monkeys and our driver, I'm assuming because it was later in the day, seemed to rush through the cats.

We really enjoyed seeing the animals in their natural habitat. The vehicle that you have to ride on in order to see the animals is very good for viewing. There is a stop halfway into the safari that allows you to get off and see some smaller, baby animals.

The safari was a lot of fun. If you have not been there in awhile they no longer let you drive through. They have nice converted military trucks that take you on the tour. If there is anything I can suggest is that you should not get off at the little area they have half way through. It was a complete waste of time and we were then stuck there since all the other trucks were full. All and all just stay on the safari and enjoy the ride. It takes about 45 minutes.

I wish I could do a ZERO STAR! They don’t even deserve a one star! It is fun at first but then as you go more deep into it the it starts getting worse! They are not fed and they have no water! Poor little lions are and kangaroos are bony. Tell thick Rick and fat Pat to keep their hands off the lions food! Clearly these keepers don’t miss a meal!

The Safari park is no longer a separate park now, though I recommend visiting when you first get to the park as the longer you wait the longer the line. We loved our visit and want to mention that Hasson was a terrific tour guide, kids loved him, great sense of humor and knowledge about the animals.

New experience to draw Seniors during off season to
Safari park Private tours, Animal Feeding etc Adults with Disabilities compliant.

We went on a monday not very busy but steady we have the season passes so all we had to do was pay for food because our dining passes did not work at this park ... The food is WAY OVERPRICED.. Just for a small chicken basket it was $12.49!!! Crazy!! You only get 4 small chicken tenders ans frys!!! Other then that had a great time!!!

Lots of animals to see glad they have a pretty decent area to roam around and there not by themselves!

My family and I loved the safari!!! We went on Friday, 08.23.13 and were among the first people on the safari. Our tour guide was excellent and the animals were out.
You need to go early or the line is VERY long. We are season pass holders and were able to get in the park 10 minutes before the general public.

Lots of animals and variety here. It was about a 45 minute wait in the severe heat. The trucks you ride on are bumpy but realistic. Animals from different continents are separated into different parks.
You can get off half way and participate in a giraffe feeding ( extra fee of course).
My kids loved the white tigers and lions. This is the best part of great adventure!

The trip on the military truck was ok, but I prefer the old road with your own car. the truck did not stop almost anything, do not get much time to take pictures. monkeys were not, do not have them, they were my favorite .. but the biggest problem was that we had to wait more than 4 hours in line to 85 degree with two children, was criminal, and more. They want to sell you water in the line at $ 3.50, Lemonade $ 5, you have no choice to buy in 4 hours of waiting. not recommended if you have a young children or newborns. You could not buy the ticket of the safari alone. no more, you have to buy the ticket for the park that includes the safari.. After spending more than four hours and dehydrated, what more can you do. it was a big disappointment after traveling 2 hours from PA

My husband and I really wanted to see all the animals here as I love wildlife photography, even though obviously, not the real "wild". First, the cost to park was outrageous. Then lines just to get into the park, even though we had free passes through an employer. The map and signage to the safari (or anything) is poor and we got lost twice trying to find the safari. No one was around to ask directions so we ended up asking the cleaning personnel. Finally, found the safari but had a 2 hour wait in line in heat and humidity without any beverage options. NO - WAIT! They were selling water at the very END of the line right before you get on the truck - but you weren't allowed to take it ON the truck! Another ridiculous holdup in the line is trying to get everyone in the line to pose for photos before a picture of the safari trucks. We just refused.
The driver on our truck went so fast over rutted dirt roads that you really felt every bump and pothole. He didn't slow down or stop at all to allow us to appreciate the animals, let alone take photos. Then you get to the half-way point - "camp something-or-other. If you want a drink, there is one small stand with no organization and the cost is outrageous. Want to feed a giraffe? 6 bucks per person. Want to simulate a zip line? 20 bucks per couple. Women's rooms without toilet paper or hand towels. Driver on 2nd half of trip much better - he slowed and even stopped for the bears and other animals.
Will NEVER do this again! WAY too expensive and frustrating.

It was a very nice experience. On a army truck, you see many many wild animals. Especialy White bengal tiger was very interesting to see

I think the whole point for re-opening the safari tour was to recuperate as much as possible the lost sales from the main theme park. It was not meant for families to have a good time.
- There was 2.5 hr long wait(backed up trafic) to get into the park
- Two lanes of bumper-to-bumper traffic through out the duration of the trip
- Weird rules like no rolling down of windows, no opening sun roof
- No opportunity for animals to come close to you.
- No opportunity to feed animals
It is a pity that Six flags prioritized profiteering in leu of providing a good experience for families

I enjoyed the new Safari because as the driver I was able to sit back and enjoy seeing the animals and talking about them with my family.

Great trip we all enjoyed the safari. The entire time was great. It's not as big as certain others but is worth going.

You are going to a trip from inside the Six flag adventure park. We waiting for 90 mins on the line but recommend to do it at least one time. The tour is on a big truck with around 20 people on the truck with guide that explain on the tour and on the animals. there is stop in the middle of the tour to see some animal on exhibit. Recommand to go down and later go up again on the tour.

This was by far the best part of our Six Flags tip. The young lady narrating was very personable and knowledgeable about the animals. We saw all the animals and lots babies. The truck has a good view where ever you sit.

Was great.... must be your FIRST ride upon the park opening. Lines can be 2-3 hours long just 45 minutes after the park opens.
My kids loved it, very authentic feel to it. We fed the giraffes, we saw a lot of cool animals, and the jeep ride was cool with knowledgeable staff. Get off at the rest stop to see your pictures, feed giraffes, do the zip line, reptiles, and other animal attractions. Its a great addition to the park IF YOU RIDE IT FIRST THING!

Like that you can drive through in your own car. Does not take long to get in, just pay at the entrance and drive your car in - kids dont have to use seat belts and had a great time watching the animals. Recommended to visit at least once.

Love the safari especially since you can now board from within the park. Very educational for the little ones and it makes a stop midway so that you can purchase refreshments and take pictures. There's also an area in which you can feed the giraffes for a fee.

Amazing …..nice safari tour …..Great adventure and kids had lots of fun and they can able to see different types of animals and learn as well. Thanks

We had a lot of fun with the Safari. We played the audio tour while driving in the car and enjoyed learning about the animals. The morning at 9:00am at the very first opening of the Safari of the day was pretty busy, we arrived at 8:50am and were in line waiting to enter until about 9:40am. Once inside however, it was great we were able to see all the animals and go at our own pace utilizing the two lanes. Years ago when I visited I remember the fear as the monkeys used to be able to climb on the vehicles however, I was very relieved to see that the monkeys are now set back a safe distance from all cars! We went ahead and got the Season Pass in order to get into the safari for free!

Not the best part of six flags but it is still fun to do once in a while. The best part of the safari is feeding the giraffes (but its an extra $5)

Sometimes the lines are long but this is a fun time for kids of all ages , lots of animals to see. The ride is a bit bumpy but the drivers make it a fun trip and the areas are beautiful to see.

Really nice and big it used to be a seperate park but now they moved it into the six flags theme park you used to be able to go in with your own car bit now they have those tour busses you go in and they drive you around in it and they have a person explaining something about each animal just like a tour

Very nice safari. A long wait if you don't have the Flash Pass. Worth the trip if you haven't been to the zoo in a while. They will stop half way thru the tour to let you off and spend some money feeding the giraffes and zipline, etc. Beware.
The tour guides were friendly and knowledgable.

We were very excited to go on the safari as we heard it was fantastic. We went right to the line as soon as we entered the park. We waited over an hour when the line stopped moving . About 25 minutes of the line not moving, we hear from people ahead of us that they were closing the safari and were not sure when or if it would reopen. We checked our weather apps and did not see a storm approaching. Sky's were clear. We waited another thirty minutes and during that time we saw people unloading from the vans but no one was loading. No one came by or announced what was going on. We finally decided to leave the line after waiting almost two hours and never getting on the ride. It never even rained.

The safari is a great place for the kids to see animals. Make sure the doors are locked as kids get excited and some animals are loss and may come up to the car.

Its nice to drive through and see all the animals. I prefer this over walking through a zoo. Not as fun ever since they put the monkeys in an exhibit. It used to be so fun watching them jump on cars and run through the streets when I was a kid..

We went to Six Flags on a weekday in June. My family prefers the typical amusement park rides, but this was the one thing I wanted to do, and it's easier now that you enter within the park. The line was not bad, but this was a weekday, so I don't know how popular this is on weekends.
The first half of the ride was fairly smooth, and we saw lots of animals, including many baby animals, which my daughter liked. There is no interaction with the animals, unless you pay extra to feed the giraffes, which we didn't do. There is a zip line as well at the midway point, extra as well, but my kids didn't even want to do it. There were lion cubs there as well, very cute.
We switched to another truck on the way back, and this was much bumpier, some people may not like that. We saw different animals on the way back--bears lounging in ponds, lions and tigers in regular enclosures, kangaroos.
Overall, I liked this safari, it's not as fun as some of the other safaris I've been to, like the Virginia Safari Park, which is interactive and hilarious. I would definitely go again if I am at Six Flags with my family, as long as the line isn't too long.

We visited during the Covid reopening and we were pleased with our experience. When I was child we had visited and the animals were all in the road and the monkeys were ripping antennas and windshield wipers off cars. The animals were much more contained and monitored then my last memory. There were lots of different animals to see from the safety and confines of your own car. There were also lots of staff present to guide you through the park. It took us about 2 hrs to make our way through the park but we enjoyed every minute and had lots of visual stimulation.

I used to love the old safari. It opened 1 hour before the rest of the park, and you could take your time exploring in your own car.
It has now been repackaged as a poorly organized in park attraction. The lines are slow moving. The loading/unloading is slow. You are at the mercy of the driver regarding what you see. The "off road" is not as rugged as you would expect. The guide was a wealth of knowledge, but his commentary and the additional themes do not add enough to make up for the additional hassles and wait. If you have never done the previous safari, give it a try if the line is short. Otherwise, don't bother.
The only suggestion that can potentially save this attraction is to be able to schedule your departure time in advance. Hopefully they will consider that.

Visited in August 2025, from the uk after previously doing the safari before when you could take your own car round. We were in the first safari truck of the day with Christina and Tom, who have lots of facts and pointed out animals, we even got to see the bears being fed and the giraffes being fed so was glad we got there early to see that. Overall it was a nice experience.

After reading several harsh, terrible, and disappointing reviews and things about the new Safari Off Road Adventure, I was worried it would not be as good as I thought. Let me start off by saying if you want to avoid hour or longer waits on the line, get there at 10:30 w/season pass, or 11:00, no later, without the pass. I recommend you bring a water bottle, or buy a water bottle before you go to the entrance of the ride. I was very impressed with how well everything was executed. So many different species, and interesting facts about the animals that your tour guide will tell you. Half way through the safari ride, the vehicles (not busses!) will drop you off at a place called Camp Aventura. Here there were so many things to do: bathrooms, gift shop w/reptiles and a sloth to look at, giraffe feedings, zip line (soaring eagle), and goats, chickens, deer, and zebras to look at. Water is sold inside the gift shop. The other half of the tour was more animals and more information given about them, some very interesting exhibits of bears, and kangaroos! Keep in mind that the giraffe feedings start at about 12:30, and continue in a pattern from there. $5 giraffe feeding, $4 with season pass. The zip line was $12 per person, $20 for two people, or $15 for two people with season pass. You can only do the safari when you buy a them park ticket, not separately, which is the only downside, but it's included with theme park price. I thought that this whole experience was never going to happen, but it did, better than I expected!

Haven’t done this for decades, but decided to try it out while our teens and their friends rode coasters all day. We waited a while and the line moved pretty slowly - seems like their cadence of vehicles wasn’t consistent the day we visited. But when we finally got on, we really enjoyed it. There were a lot of animals, the wide open spaces were cool to see and the ride was fun. Right side of vehicle seemed to have a few more photo opps than the left...

The staff is really great and very professional!! We were so pleased to go to this safari as we saw a lot of animals which usually you can see it on the zoo.... Lions, bears, giraffes.... Definitely the best part of our adventure at Six Flags!!

this was real cool, got to see many animals, i would suggest this if you need a break from the park its nice to see.

After a very long wait on line in the hot sun with young children, you are expected to take a picture before boarding the safari bus. Young children are not allowed end seats and it is difficult for them to see past taller riders, so much of the viewing is obscured to them. Our tour guide was yelling at the top of her lungs into the microphone unnecessarily as she described the areas we entered. The road is very bumpy and I feel they should have warned us about this or at least adjusted the speed for road conditions since my daughter was obviously several months pregnant. And since I have a bad back, at the speed our driver went over the bumps it was very painful and even frightening. At the rest stop half way through the trip you can feed the giraffes for an additional $6 if you want to, purchase food and drinks at very high prices if you can get the clerk taking your food order to understand you, and eat at picnic tables with flies all around. The only good thing was that we were able to board another safari bus with a different tour guide and perhaps a better driver. As far as the animals go, there wasn't as much to see as there was years ago when you were able to drive through at your own pace. Would I do it again, nah.

Loved the drive-thru safari! Animals are meandering across the road or right next to you! Pretty cool! The giraffes come and slobber on your car, well it happened to us! Bear area is really great, their heads were poking up out of the water!

The sign said, there is "40 minutes of wait from here." When that snaky line approached an end, it dovetailed to another maze/line which said "60 minutes of waiting from here." When that snaky line approached an end, another maze showed another sign "40 minutes from here." In all, our two little girls and we waited almost 3 hours to take a ride through the safari. In the old days, you would drive through in your own car, but that system has since been replaced with the open bus rides which are similar to Biblical exodus, movement of large numbers of people.

I wish they sold safari as a separate ticket. it is a great open air trip where the animals are so close you could reach out and touch them.... you don't because they would eat you but you could. The tour guide was very knowledgeable. Best part of Great Adventure but not worth a full price park ticket.

Tour guides share a lot of surprises about all the animals we drive past on this ride. It is so much better than the old drive-thru format.

Not at all the experience I remember as a child or hoping for my child! We had “reservations for 1pm along with about 1000+ more people apparently! We sat in bumper to bumper traffic the entire time! Me: “oh look! An elephant!” My 6yo: “no mom, that’s the same elephant we saw 15 minutes ago....” halfway through, my six year old was so bored, she laid down in the back of the car and said “tell me when this is over!” We all had to pee so bad after it was over and what was available? A line of port-a-potty’s in the parking lot! Talk about sanitary conditions during this coronavirus! Yuck! I know we are all bored and itching to get out of the house, but believe me, this Safari takes boredom to a whole new level! Save your money!

I was contemplating to give 2 stars because of how badly our day started at Six Flags, but I don't normally complain and leave negative reviews so 3 stars was being nice.
I bought 2 tickets for the VIP Safari Tour for June 6th, 2015 for my boyfriends birthday. We arrived to the park and in the details of our tickets, it clearly states, "As you enter the parking lot toll booth, please present your tickets to attendant - DO NOT PAY FOR PARKING." A young teenager called his manager over she said our tickets were nothing special and that we had to pay for parking... Which we regrettably did. I paid A LOT of money for these tickets but what's an additional $25 on top of $400+ bucks, right?
Neither of us have been to Six Flags in many years, and the last time we were there the safari was separate from the Amusement park. Our tickets instructed us to go to guest relations but, as I stated, we have not been there in years. We had no idea where guest relations was located. So we talked to MANY employees and asked where we should go for the VIP Safari Tour and NOBODY knew what we were talking about, nor did they know where to send us. It was like the VIP Tour didn't exist and we were making stuff up. After some searching and asking a lot of clueless employees, we found our way to the entrance of the new Safari attraction. As we were asking an employee where we should go for our VIP tour, a guard pulled my boyfriend aside and asked if he wore that t-shirt into the park (if you've ever seen the movie spring break, the front of his t-shirt had the four main characters in their bikinis on it). He said it was inappropriate, called his supervisor, took his license and wrote down his information. We were now a half hour late to our tour and very annoyed already that nobody knew where to send us. His supervisor finally came and deemed his shirt inappropriate. We were told that she could escort us to buy a new one or that we could vacate the park. I asked if he could simply turn it inside out but they didn't trust him and thought he could easily turn it the other way around. I guess I can understand that it's a family park and that his shirt might be a little sexually aggressive, but there's a flippin water park where I'm sure MANY women are walking around in their bikinis. And I honestly don't think that the animals would care what he was wearing on our PRIVATE tour through the safari. But whatever. This t-shirt situation aside, this whole experience really set the tone to the start of our day.
After we were forced to buy a t-shirt and put it in a locker, we spoke with the guard's supervisor about where we should go for our VIP Tour. They talked on their radios and seemed to figure out where we needed to be so the guard escorted us to the front of the general admissions line for the safari tour and just told us to have a seat on the large truck where 20 other people were sitting, then just walked away. My boyfriend and I knew this was not right, so I asked the guide on the truck and she told us to wait at the bottom of the ramp where our personal tour guide should meet us. We were weary if this was the right information but finally, an hour after our tour was supposed to start, our guide met us there.
Some sort of signage throughout the park would've been helpful. Or better yet, knowledgable employees would've been ideal. I paid too much money for these tickets to be treated the way we were. I was very disappointed with how we were just told to wander around like lost souls in order to find our starting location and the overall customer service. So much for VIP treatment...
However, after we finally started the tour, both our guide and the tour itself was excellent. Jackie was very pleasant, informative and apologetic (probably the only employee who was) about trying to find our way to her. I don't regret going, as the overall experience WITH THE ANIMALS was a great one, but if they expect people to pay that much money for these types of events, then they should be a lot more organized and treat their customers with more respect.
I left a complaint through their website and received a confirmation email that stated, "Your message is being forwarded to the appropriate department at the park and we will contact you as soon as possible (definitely within seven days, but usually much sooner)." Well this is day 8 of not hearing anything back... I get the feeling they don't really care. And, quite frankly, it showed during my visit there.

Lots of animals and they are pretty close too. The guides are very friendly and nice. Conveniently, they have a snack bar/gift shop in the middle of the ride, in case you haven't bought enough $4.50 waters yet. Plan on at least 1-2 hours for your safari.

The safari is accessed from inside Six Flags and shouldn't be missed. The tour takes place on open-air military type trucks and the guides are very entertaining as you visit 6 "continents" to see various animals. Guests have the opportunity to get off about half-way through to feed the giraffe and see a number of small exotic animals.
Really good stuff.

We had a reservation for 9 AM on July 4th. We got there at 8:45 and went right in with no wait. Tons of animals - we especially enjoyed the bears. Took a little over an hour. My recommendation is to make the first reservation in the morning and get there a little early. They let us in with no waiting.

You have to try it. Makes your heart beats faster.
I closed my eyes the entired ride. It's a long line to wait to get to the ride.

This was my first time on the safari so I really didn't have any expectations. The app said the wait time was 20 minutes, it was more like 40 minutes by the time you were on the truck.
There are 2 parts of the experience. Each is approximately 30 minutes. About halfway through, there is a stop where you can get off. There is a gift shop, and some displays of snakes, spiders, small animals, etc. inside. You can walk around outside and see some of the animals and there is some extra fee attractions such as feeding the giraffes, a zip line ride, etc. There is also a small food stand there if you get hungry. We spend about 30 minutes at the stop.
During the safari, you pass through various sections and see different animals in each area. There is a wide variety of animals present and it seems to be enough room for them to roam . The tour guides are quite good and knowledgeable. We saw two adolescent brother bears frolicking and wrestling in the water. We also learned about the different types of bears.
Overall, it was a nice experience that lasted about 1.5 hours including the stop. This is something you should do if you have the time. Since we have season passes, time away from the rides is not a big deal. If you only have one day and are a ride person, this may not be the best use of your time unless the ride lines are ridiculously long.

We do have to say, the changes that have been made to Safari are excellent! What began as a respite from the sun turned out to be a highlight of the day. The ride now affords everyone an infinitely better overall experience as far as engagement is concerned and eliminates the potential for catastrophe that the once used 'individual cars' format (three lanes of cars veering every which way) carried.
Now, pls understand, ultimately we are all at the mercy of the animals and what particular mood they may or may not be in. On this day, we were rather fortunate as virtually all were feeling quite sociable.
Regardless, not being confined to the road makes a huge difference as the safari truck is granted great allowance across the park's terrain. Many times we got up real close to the various animals (yet maintained a proper and safe distance). This allowed ALL passengers to witness these incredible animals as well as take photos to our hearts' content. The pace of the vehicle is proper (there is no rushing through) and the guides are both knowledgeable and personable.
The stop at the Visitors Center is extraordinary as you have various animals (many adolescent) displayed at arm's length with the ability to feed them (proper food is provided, as is hand sanitizer). Further, there are specific feeding times for giraffes (if I recall correctly, there is an upcharge for this but well worth it). THIS is a MUST! To be that close to these magnificent animals is a privilege. And they are surprisingly photogenic!
Of course, you also have the souvenir shop which includes various items and food treats (for people, that is).
As far as timing, we understand it's probably best to do this earlier rather than later in the day, as the wait can get long. For us, we enjoyed breaking up the day with this attraction. To each their own, I guess.
All in all, we do believe GA has figured out how to successfully place this unique feature back in the forefront and would highly recommend all to make the time to experience it.

The safari experience had changed over the years and now you take a ride in a open air vehicle. Just to see all of the endangered animals thriving really makes the experience a plus. Love the big cats, bears and of course all the other African animals. Very safe experience and the stop in the middle of the ride to feed the giraffes and all those lovely turtles. So much to enjoy. The staff is really friendly and loves to talk about the animals.

This was by far the best part of Six Flags, the staff was GREAT, very welcoming and personable. The giraffe feeding was so much fun although it was an additional cost $6-8. It was well worth it.

So many animals! Our small 4 person group thought the $100 or so dollars were worth it! Giraffe came up to car and put boogers on our car. 😂 Gas would be needed right before it! Long line so need lots of gas!

Now that Six Flags changed the way you go through the Safari, the wait line grows very quickly. The best tip I can give is to get in line as early as possible. Plus, they said the morning trips out are some of the best. You travel through various sections such as Africa, Australia, etc. and then you stop at camp where you can get off and feed the giraffes for $5 per person. They also have other animals to see there such as snakes, turtles, a sloth, goats and chickens, etc. You can do a zipline there for $12 for a single rider or $20 for a double rider (I think). Then you re-board a vehicle to finish the last half of your journey. It was neat to get to see the wildlife up close. Your experience can really be different depending on your tour guide. The guide on our first half was blah, but the guide for our second half was great!

As I have mentioned in 2 other Six Flags reviews I just wrote today 05/21/14. This was better as a drive through Safari. Now I will sugest if you want to ride go there first because after the first hour the park is open the lines backs up and the waitn is forever. The reason for the long wait is they now have a photo op right before they let you go up to the loading platform. You can go past the photo people but they staff alomst make it feel like an inconvenience that you do not want to a photo at their special spot. We gp right past it obviously. Now the safari is still good but I understand cost cutting and animal safety as they are free roaming on the safari it is all a change in the times. But still worth the ride.

This is worth the wait. You get into a big truck the ride is a little rough. There is a guided tour they tell you about the different animals. The animals get pretty close to the truck too. They have birds, elephants, tiger, bears, lions, kangaroos, giraffes, zebras. My kids loved to see all the animals. The truck stops halfway thru at another spot that you can get off. There is a bathroom other animals a small park some food also if you need to fill your souvenir cup you can do it here. Then you get back in a small line to get on another truck and continue your tour.

Six Flags Safari was amazing. My kids had so much fun watching all the animals approach our car. The smile we got from our kids was priceless. lots of surprises on the route and lots of thrills. you can also get the chance to feed some animals upclose and personal with an extra fee off course. This I swear is a must when in NJ even if you don't go to the Adventure park. Just come and take the drive through the Safari and it will be worth while. Thank me later.

This is the closest thing I a Safari Adventure in Africa that I may ever come close to, and I'm and quite alright with that. My 7 yr old son said that this was the best part of Six Flags Great Adventure. This is coming from a child who LOVES rides. The first time we took him this past Summer, he was in awe at all of the different animals and how us close and personal we got to them. He asked to go back during Fright Fest, and this time asked to wear his "Safari" vest that we bought at The Rainforest Café in EDISON, NJ. He was all ready to go with his safari hat on and aviator sunglasses, binoculars, safari boots and khaki shorts. If your kids like the zoo, they wil fall in love with Great Adventures' Safari. The like builds quick, so, do it first thing when you get in the park. It's located near the Log Flume and Runaway Train on the right side of the park. There's also an area to get out in the middle of the safari adventure, with a play area for children, a gift shop and a deck to feed the giraffes. There are also other smaller animals to view.

We had a great time. The animals were very nice to see up and close. A lot of different animals it was funny to see them

So much fun, feed giraffe's it's a must do at Great Adventure. Best part of Six Flags is Safari, visit my review of Great Adventure, NJ. We saw many animals and learned a lot from Britney our wonderful guide.

This is a nice safari with lots of different animals that you can see. I liked the gates that separated the "worlds". There was also camp Aventura which they have fun activities there like Giraffe feeding and gliding. Gliding cost extra money. Otherwise, interesting informational fun tour for kids.

Unlike other Safaris in the United States, you can see animals up close. It was a good experience for any zoologist.

My kids love it.. but not the scary rides. I'm not a big fan of big rides too. So for our family there is not much of adult rides. Kids rides are good .. Congo rapids is our favorite. We have our yearly passes Everytime but we are more of water guys. Love the hurricane harbour ..
Everything is so expensive inside .. ice cream cups are 7$ , coke small bottle is 4.50 $ .. insane ! Better to eat outside on your way to park or when u leave. And on weekends too much rush. Wait times everywhere.
We love animal safari though.

Spent just over an hour in the park, great for family with kids. The drive through Safari takes little over an hour.

Move over Busch Gardens, Tampa. This ride gets you close up and I mean right next to the safari and to the window close up. You get to see animals roaming free and close enough to think you are on an actual African Safari. This is great for kid and adults, the guides are hilarious and very informative with the guests. Loved this ride, however, be prepared to wait in long lines, this is very popular, especially in summer. Make this one of the first rides to get on or last ride. Highly recommend.

Pay for a 4 hr bumber-bumber traffic jam, with a few animals sprinkled in? No thanks. We were dying to leave the entire time. Awful

Like that your on a safari like vehicle to ride through the safari. The animals are free to roam and not caged like a zoo. The guides are pretty knowledgeable and can answer most basic questions that are asked.

As with many people trying to get out of house with their kids during covid, I decided to take my kids here when I used vacation time from work. I was probably last here 30+ years ago and haven’t done the safari since then. You have to buy a timed ticket but I’m not sure how much it matters what the time is. We left late and was probably 20 min past our time but seemed to not be a big deal. There was half decent amount of cars here for a late aug thurs morning. I would suggest getting here in morning since animals are more moving around. We saw tons of animals. There were multiple backups at the big animals (elephants, lions, tigers and giraffes) but eventually it would move and you got your turn to gawk at them. Probably 1.5 hrs to get though it and near the end you are just ready to be done with it. 4 people cost around $100 with the fees and taxes. It was fine to kill a few hours of the day. I wouldn’t go back probably ever again.. saw everything.

Been wanting to take a trip to the Safari for a while now since I haven't been since I was a kid...back in the days of rolled-down windows and animals eating food from your car hoods...those days are long gone.
Conveniently located right off I-195 with lots of fast-food and resting options nearby along Route 537/Monmouth Road - Wawa, McDonalds, Burger King, Popeyes, Taco Bell, KFC, Starbucks and Seven-11.
We purchased tickets in advanced: $25 per adult and $15 for seniors and children under 48". There is a +/- $5 for each ticket depending on the day....i.e. midweek or on certain holidays.
We followed the signs for the Safari (there are also lanes for Hurricane Harbor and Great Adventure) and presented our printed tickets to the booth attendant. We then proceeded on to the Safari.
They do stress not to roll down your windows and maintain a slow (max. 5 mph) pace throughout the safari. Most cars kept pace except for a few who stopped for a few extra minutes to take photos of certain animals, or those who made their way closer to the road making for some great photo ops. There are two lanes so those who wish to go around can do so...and those who wanted to wait a the photo ops patiently waited for the cars up ahead to pull up.
Overall is was a good experience...I wish there was a bit more to see or more animals were closers or ventured closer to the road.
Also, as an avid picture-taker...taking photos with the windows up creates all kinds of glare issues....so it is really difficult to get any good and clear photos.
Although the "Audio-tour" was interesting...it was only about 45 minutes and it takes about 1.5 hours to navigate through the safari...so the pacing made it very difficult to follow as you have to (or assign someone else in the car) pause and wait for the next area.
In the past they offered and tour truck where you can ride around in a high truck which has an open top allowing for some great photos...it didn't seem to be open this year. I hope it returns in the future since that will ease the issues of driving yourself.
At the end of the safari, there is a small gift shops with some stuffed animals. There are also bathrooms available there.
I don't know if the experience is currently worth the admission prices....keep in mind that everyone in the vehicle requires a ticket...so a family of two adults and two children under 48" will pay about $85-90 after fees....I don't think that is worth it based on the experience, or lack there of. I believe more appropriate prices would be $15/10. I also was unable to find any discounts for the Safari.

We enjoy riding on the trucks and listening to information about the animals as we see them. They have elephants, bears, tigers, white rhinos, water buffalo, just a large variety of animals.

Awe and joyful to have a true encounter with the living zoo animals. Some of them roaming around like the giraffes peeking at our sun roof window. Friends asked where is this real encounter with animals. It is not in disney but in six flags - a discovery.

Love this place but sometimes the animals can be too close esp the giraffe. The kids will definitely enjoy its like being at Disney

This was a fantastic way to get up close and personal with over 1200 wild animals from the comfort of your car. Amazing photo opportunities and great habitats and care for their animals.

I love that you can take a ride through the Safari and touch the animals. This is a nice calm ride that everyone should take.

Great reason to visit! Better than Animal Kingdom to me! Been to Disney but this safari is even better. Don't miss it and being included in the park admission to great America it's a deal.

I've already been there twice.......... once as a child, once with my child and now going with my son's family and grandsons! They say you now get to ride in a vehicle provided with driver and wisdom on the animals............ CAN'T WAIT!!!

My partner and I decided to do the safari ride when we visited this park. However we weren't even waiting at the 30 minute line mark and waited almost over an hour and a half for this ride. A truck would come every 5-10 minutes is what we were told my the park employees however that was not the case it was more like 15-20 minutes. We finally got on the safari truck and had a trainee do the tour and she was horrible at it. I felt bad for the poor girl because she was so embarrassed finally the rookie jumped on and finished giving us the tour. Overall the ride was very informative and my partner and I learned a lot the animals weren't amazing but what do you expect for a six flags safari tour?? I gave this attractive 2 stars for the wait time and length of the ride overall it was a long ride but not worth the time spent in line.

I had previously rated the Safari as "Awesome"... but that was before they made you take the Safari Bus Tour.... first, the wait time is incredible... there's even a sign that says lines may exceed 3 hours... on a not-so-crowded day in the park we waiting approx. 1 and 1/2 hours before being made to stand infront of a backdrop to take a safari-themed picture... most of the line is under tents, so at least we weren't in the blazing sun... after boarding the open sided bus they put on this cheesey video starring people with Australian accents... which I suppose is their idea of a "theme"... Disney's Animal Kingdom this ain't!!!
Your vehicle is staffed by a guide, who seems semi-informed, but rattles off the information as though the memorized a script... the driver sort of pauses infront of herds of animals, to stay on schedule... its really difficult to take pictures because of the rush through the safari. You're basically taking the same road that the cars used to, with one or two exceptions where you go over some bumpy terrain to make it seem off-road. All buses stop at the Exploration Station where you can get off, see some smaller animals, and pay more money to feed giraffes and llamas, or pay for a ridiculous "Zip Line", which is more like a chair lift at a ski lodge that runs along side of the building. Trust me, you're not zipping over any ersatz African plain! With the outrageous waiting times, plus the addition of the loading and unloading at the Exploration station, you've got to budget at least 4 hours for this whole "adventure" ... so be prepared that this may be your only ride at the park, especially on a busy day. And, of course animals are unpredictable, so you might see lots of animals close to the truck, you might see them all laying off in the distance coming no where near you... the experience will change every visit, but the huge wait times and rush-through ruined the safari adventure for me.

Now a ride in the park, got here at 11:00 am and there was no wait line. was a very fun trip, many animals and experienced guides. There was stop in the middle with giraffe feeding, bathrooms, and gift shop.

We made the mistake of not getting the cut your line pass or what ever they call it. We waited in line for and hour and a half in the heat, horrible. But once in the vehicle the experience was quite good. Better then when you use to have to drive your own car through and get attacked by the monkeys etc.. Would recommend paying for the pass the line ticket.

The animals are amazing. The guides are knowledgeable, friendly and patient.... and they don't talk too much. Different animals are out different times of the day so consider going more than once.

we have gone here numerous times. in the summer the animals are hot too and more or less lie around. cooler weather brings them more energy and it's more fun. great place!

Really enjoyed the Safari Ride even though we waited over an hour to get on. We saw a lot of animals from 6 different continents. You can get off halfway to see reptiles and other small animals. My favorite animals were the elephants, giraffes and bears.

VIP Safari tour is worth every penny. Animal lovers will not be disappointed! Our guides were outstanding and we really did get to see a lot - and to feed a lot of animals!

If you can try visiting the Safari ride when you go to Great Adventure. Go early since the lines can get long.

Loved the new safari ride at Six Flags but I went on day that there was no wait,it was almost like a private tour for me and my family, normally there is way over an hour wait and i believe the safari closes earlier than rest of park so you really have to come early and plan your day to experience it

This was a fun experience. I never got to do the drive through safari so this was new for me. It took about 2 hours and was great.

As I mentioned in another post, the newly renovated attraction is MUCH better than before! The ONLY problem is that they should have kept it as a separate park. Having to access through the main park is a little inconvenient if that's all you feel like doing.

We thought it was fun riding through the safari area.
It was great to have the chance to get up close to the giraffes and other animals along the way. The guides were very informative.
We enjoyed our afternoon at the park.

I visited this place twice, 2012 & 2017. Previously it was open for private vehicles, but now they are arranging a vehicle and it is now part of Six Flags rides.
This is should be your first ride in Six Flags as the waiting time is ~1 hr. You can avail fast pass costing $25 extra. Also, plan to avail the ride around 12/1/2/3 PM. After around 15-20 minute of the ride, it has a stop for the camp adventure where you can feed Giraffe. It is an exciting activity for childrens.

This attraction is well worth it. Great for all ages. I am 64 and my granddaughter is 8 and this is the first thing we do every time we go to GA. We have season passes and go on average twice a week. Everytime we go on Safari we see something new. It doesnt get old

Important note; try to get the back...a little bumpy but you can get pics through all angles. Was really surprised by this attraction. It was spacious, animals appeared happy (but who knows), and it was really fun. You go on the truck for a little bit, stop half way and you can choose to get off to feed the giraffes, check out the bear, snakes, and some farm animals. If you choose to get off, the wait for another truck can be awhile. The rest of the ride is equally fun. Good times all around.

Six flags safari is a part of six flags adventure Park, the safari is conducted on very big open truck with cheerful guide narrating everything on the way, large no of animals r kept in natural style habitat, really appreciate & beautiful enjoyable safari with smart cooperativ team of safari Park, must visit while in flag 6

My child loves animals. This happens to be his favorite part of our mini vacation! Definitely suggest checking this out!

The Safari at Great Adventure is a terrific experience. I went many years ago and I like it much better now because they have narration as they take you through it, which was not possible when you went in your own car. I do wish that it were separate because you have to pay for the whole park in order to go through it and you have to walk a great distance to reach it. Halfway through this Safari you can get off the vehicles and have something to eat. There is an area where you can feed the giraffes, a very enjoyable experience!

The safari is a truly unique part of the park. You are able to really see the animals close up as you drive through. I've been going since I was a kid. If you have kids, you have to take them through this. It is a chance to see the majesty of nature in New Jersey

We truly enjoyed our ride and even stopped half way to feed the giraffe, zip lining and get something to eat. it takes easily two hours to enjoy the whole ride.

Hmm not sure how I felt about it. I remember enjoying the private drive around version better. The line to go is always long but fairly fast moving. You can feed giraffes at the midsection. Definitely not a must, but if you have young or short kids who can't do some rides, this is not a complete waste of time.

Tons of fun for kids and adults alike. Lots of different types of animals, and the animals were all easy to see. a couple of reviews from may/early june mentioned long lines in the first few days after the park opened, but we went on a friday afternoon at 2:30 on June 11 and there were only very short lines - it seems like great adventure has figured out how to manage crowd sizes with their reservation system. One thing to consider - the ticketing and reservation system had some snags, we were not able to reach a live agent over the phone to get it fixed. i don't think that live operators are available. The chat feature didn't work for us. we filled out the "contact us" form and did get a response a day later, but it took us a lot of time to switch our reservation.

I enjoy the ride and the time seeing the most amazing wonderful animals there. As well as the wind beautifully blowing during the ride was great too cause it was 95 that day.

Really Great place to visit, worth the price of admission, you get to see a bunch of animals in open spaces roaming freely. Great time for people of any age.

I love animals to begin with but this was amazing to see all the wildlife roaming free and together (except for the lions and lioness of course). The day i went it was very hot but i got to see a baby zebra feeding from its mother, a bunch of elephants in the water, and alot of brown bears in the water being silly.

Terrible waste of money, we spent hours in a “traffic” jam. Two lanes of stop and go traffic. Very difficult to see anything on opposite side. When we finally got to see the giraffe’s we were waved forward not being able to stop and enjoy. It is obviously all about money and not on customer experience. VERY disappointing.

Nothing new been to Singapore night safari had a better experience with live animal shows and open kart to see animals, this safari is now outdated and old with no show need to update .

I loved the six flags Safari ,it is like to be in the jungle with wide and free animals ,very clean the animal are very well treated so beautiful inside i love the experience

We have heard about the safari and were looking forward to the experience. Our family arrived at the entrance at 5:30 pm to be met by bad news - the Safari was closed! Rep said that the safari closed at sunset. Disappointing!

The revamped safari is really great. You must get there first thing. First of all the animals are more lively and the lines get long. Definitely time your safari so you can feed the giraffes. I think they only do that twice a day. The open structure is great. Once you get to base camp you can stay there as long or short as you want. Just grab another safari truck and finish up at your leisure.

I went last year after not going for a couple years and it was dissapointing. You used to be able to go into the safari in your own car and it was fun. I remember the monkies used to get on top of the cars, some animals would even get right on your windshield! Now they take you in this jeep and it's less interactive. The animals are less prone to get closer, the tour guide talks all the time (it's annoying), etc... The only cool part is the huge jeep you get to ride in! Save your time and raise some money, head to Africa to the actual Safari!

Included in your admission the Safari is worth seeing. Animals from all over the world including Africa, America, and Australia roam freely and sometimes come over to your bus. The tour guides are very helpful pointing out the animals they see and there is a stopping point with a gift shops and animals to see. Make sure to stop by.

Speaking as someone who had visited the safari often when you could drive through in your own car, I liked the safari truck and tour guide version more than I thought I would. The open sides of the truck do make it feel more up close and personal with the animals. Not much else is different except for the optional stop in the middle at Camp Aventura. We did stop and explore there which added quite a bit of time. All in all, the safari with the stop took us two hours.
At Camp Aventura there is an option to buy the photo they took of your group at the start for $20, feed the giraffes for about $6-8 per person (depending on if you get the season pass discount) and a two-person sitting zip line for $5-6 per person. We did the zip line which had a very slow line to get on and the view was not as exciting as we hoped--just the fields with animals. In addition, the Camp has a variety of animals: snakes and lizards inside and tortoises, goats, pigs, owls, parrots and more outside. There is also a food truck with the typical park food and drinks as well as bathroom facilities. The line to get back on a truck to finish the safari was painfully slow until they finally sent some empty trucks to the rescue.
All in all, my family enjoyed the Camp and the safari ride. It did turn out to be time-consuming so when we got back to the park, the lines for all the other rides were long. I also want to mention that we got the the park when it opened at 10:30, but the Frontierland section where you get on the safari did not open until 11:00 which made for a large group waiting to go to the safari ride. When we got back after the safari, there was no line for the ride.

The lines are long but that is expected at most amusement parks. Unless you can really stay all day and plan it out, you can only get on a few of the more exciting rides. Shows are decent. Food is decent. Entrance fees per person are not cheap but parking was really high, twenty five bucks is a bit steep. The safari is now a jeep ride, you have to make your way to the back of the park and it opens later than the theme park. This isn't clearly explained so you lose time waiting for the safari ride to open. People just wait in line while others come late and rush to the front at the last minute. So after the ride opens, your ten minute wait turns into an hour as late comers crash the lines from the left.

We loved it! The off road adventure is awesome! It was like actually being in Africa. Just the right amount of time. The wait can be lengthy I heard, but we were lucky and got right on. Everyone should check it out!

Hadn’t been on the safari since you drove thru in your own car. Comparable to the Disney Animal Kingdom safari. NOTE: go first thing in the am - when the park opens - otherwise lines get long. Was able to get on one of the first jeeps. I was looking forward to the giraffe-feeding 🦒 exhibit. Loved it!! Up close and personal with the giraffes! There are some other animals midway thru the safari - anteater, skunk, lynx babies, goats, pot-bellied pigs, mini horse - also gift shop. Get your tix for the giraffe-feeding exhibit at the gift-shop before feeding the giraffes. You can linger here as long as you want - keepers are very friendly and informative.
Good variety of animals thru the safari.

This safari was probably the best part of Six Flags Great Adventure. Nice ride, nice place to stop In the middle...great amount of animals.
You can tell it is older....

Nice to sit back and relax a bit and enjoy the animals! Nice trip for the kids as well. Go earlier or late and always when its raining to ensure that you will see animals.
Company Outing
I love going to company functions, but Great Adventure was a bit much for a company. Lines were extremely long, even with the flash card. However, no complaints, as long as my kids where happy, so was I, and that's what matter.
