Lots of quality runs close to town

By Cooper M |

You can't beat having a quality resort this close to town. There are a lot of great runs for what otherwise feels like a small resort. It gets crowded during the holidays but it's usually not bad at all.

Ski & Snowboard

By Polar1988 |

Took the family for spring break 2018. Beautiful views, very organized ski resort. Kids took group lessons for ski and snowboarding. Group ski was crowded and hard for my daughter to get the instruction she needed, so we got her a private lesson with John O. He was amazing and had her confident on the slopes in a single lesson. My son picked up the snowboarding quickly in his group lesson. Unfortunately he hurt his wrist the last day, but ski patrol took great care of him. Fortunately it was only a sprain.

The downside is the Wi-Fi is very weak, and there’s no cell signal at the lodge. So I had to search for my son to find out he was injured. Also, the lodge itself if pretty basic if you’re not skiing. It could use some upgrades. But still, it’s a great, affordable place for a family trip.

Very good skiing, close to Santa Fe

By David B |

This ski facility has really improved in the last few years. The new runs are challenging, so you don't feel compelled to drive all the way to Taos if you are an advanced or intermediate skier. The views are tremendous, and runs well groomed. You can be off the mountain and washed up for dinner in Santa Fe. Nice.

Nice smaller ski resort.

By Glenthetraveler |

People here are very nice and friendly. Pretty good value for skiing. Not a very large resort so it's pretty good to ski for a day or two. During Christmas and Spring Break get there before they open if you are renting as the line to rent will be very long. Fun time.

Lots of skiing, NO LINES

By Paul |

A very nice little ski area. Nothing too tricky, but plenty of nice runs. Plenty to do for a three day ski. Great snow. Best of all, NO LIFT LINES. NONE. We skied Thursday, Friday and Saturday and never had to wait, even at the base lifts. At the top of several lifts, some excellent views. This is not a resort. There is no lodging on site. But, it is a nice, quaint ski area. It's not real challenging for experienced skiers, but a great place for those who are lower level skiers. There are numerous short blue and black runs that provide a little more challenge, but are short, so you can give them a run and they won't wear you out. The blues are "light blue" and the blacks are somewhat toward "grey". However, you stay in Santa Fe and drive fifteen miles each way. But, the drive is gorgeous. The base restaurant is very spacious and the food is quite good AND quite reasonably priced. Portions are very large. The midway pub and grill is very crowded all the time, but the same good food and beer and spirits. They have specials and I saw a $4 beer special a couple of days. Are you kidding? Overall, we enjoyed it quite a lot and would go back.

Skiing in New Mexico is a secret

By JBentraveler |

Spending Christmas in Sante Fe included skiing. The slopes are an easy 30 minute drive from down town and the windy mountain road is beautiful. Once at the mountain the process of renting equipment was flawless and simple.
The slopes are not the steepest, but the runs are challenging enough for most. While there we had fresh snow coming down and the powder was excellent! The lift lines were not long and things moved quickly. The only downside is that all the lifts are uncovered and the wind can make the trip to the top quite cold.

Favorite Ski Area Closest to Home

By hilaryyaileen |

First off, Ski Santa Fe has toilets that flush. The espresso on the mountain is fresh fresh fresh. The food is great; it's not all fried! Friendly staff, and last but not least, the skiing is awesome. We are already planning another trip back.

One of the reasons why I live here!

By WanderlustDust |

Most importantly, its only 15 miles from downtown (30-45 minute drive depending on road conditions). The lift opens at 9AM, but I get there before 8:30AM for decent parking. You can rent equipment at the basin (Ski Santa Fe), on the way up the mountain (Cottam's), or in town (Ski Tech/Alpine Sports). Lessons are available for beginners (snowboard/ski) and there is a nice variety of diamonds for more experienced skiers. Live music at Totemoff’s on some Saturdays is a nice addition.

Close to Town

By Shelley K |

I enjoyed skiing at Santa Fe because it is closer to town and easy to get to. Check the conditions and you will enjoy it. I lived in Colorado for years, so don't expect a huge area, but if you're in the mood for skiing and in a hurry, its a nice place.

Sunset at the Overlook

About a half-mile from Ski Santa Fe off 475 there is an overlook with incredible sunset views. Bring your camera!

My goodness we loved this place!!!! The people were incredibly nice and helpful. I've never been to a more friendly helpful atmosphere and we're from Oklahoma, the nicest people on earth, haha. Loved it, we will go back every chance we get. My 18yr old ready to move out there. Great place

We love the easy access to Ski Santa Fe and the great runs and tree trails. Love to meet up at Totemoff's for lunch as well! Especially good ski area for children, not too big but great snow!! Rentals there are easy too!!

Great Mountain for beginners and Intermediate Skiing

By Bill E |

Ski Santa Fe is a mid sized Ski resort 20 min. outside Santa Fe.
I would claim to be a intermediate skier, but have not skied for 10 plus years. I brought my teenage girls up here for their first ski trip in late Dec. 2017.It was great, weather was 32-40 degrees each day. They had about 8 runs or so open, and a base of 24 inches of man made well groomed slopes.
Tips - Renting
Arrive early. Get your gear first. Even if you sign up for a ski school package, they will credit you back when you sign up for class and get your lift ticket at the ski school window. Get gear first.
Ski School - The "Never Ever" package designed for the first timer was very through. 2 hours in the AM, take a break, 2 hours in the PM. Includes beginner lessons, rentals and beginner slopes lift ticket. Ski school I remember was 45 min. learn to snow plow, turn left and right... hit you on the butt and send you up the mountain. These guys made a day of it and seemed to do a good job. Was a little crowded, but between Christmas and New years, with 40 degrees and sunshine, have to expect it would be busy.
Main Lodge - Fairly nice. Enough room to spread out and eat. Decent choice of food and beverages.
Down side - No Coffee refills ? No Wifi. Suppose to be wifi, but it was over taxed, They need a tech up grade! ZERO Cell phone connectivity, your in the mountains.

Only being 25 min outside Santa Fe, this was a nice place to go and a lot of other things to do in the area. Great for family skiing with out breaking the bank.

Southwest Winter Delight

By Skywalker4259 |

Ski Santa Fe is a mid-size ski area that is well run and has enough diversity to keep all skill levels happy. Not as big as the Colorado resorts, but located very close to Santa Fe. This makes it a great destination for a ski vacation. Elevation is very high at about 12,000 ft, so snow is good most of the year. The season is a little shorter than Colorado, but the crowds are also normally less. Well groomed runs. Views from the mountain top are spectacular! They have new shuttle service from the city up the mountain to the ski area, which takes a lot of the hassle out of the 15 mile drive.

Great place and family friendly

By Carol T |

Great local ski area. We go almost every weekend and it is a ton of fun. Recommended for all ages and levels

Great ski trip

By John_B56003 |

Ski santa fe is a nice pleasant scenic drive up the mountain with great views. Not the biggest resort, but it's perfect for a short two or three day trip during spring break. Staff was helpful and lines were short. We have taken kid and adult ski lessons and everyone was pleased. We are beginner skiers, however we couldn't ask for much more, especially considering santa fe is a short drive from Texas. We will be back.

Most Unaccommodating

By GhostRyder5 |

Still the most least accommodating Ski location I have ever been to. It is the closest place for me and they had snow. I always say I won't do it again, but I was taking friends who had never skied and I was able to go during the week. So I arrived on Monday to find The main Ski lift that allows access to the mountain lodge was shut down. It never ran one day while we were there. Which meant difficult or no access to our new skiers. Just a reminder this is not a friendly place as a whole. No comparison to Ski Resort locations that rely on Skiing. There is just always a feeling there that you are bothering them by being there. I also felt this from some places in town. I guess being there during the week when things are a little less busy, means you're just bothering them (servers/workers). In fairness I did deal with the ski/board rental guys who were very friendly and helpful. On the mountain there are TVs in the bar, they were left off as opposed to having ski shows or something on. A good deal of the time the music was off. There is little, to no effort made to what could be such a much better experience. I stood at the bar for some time, when who I identified as the manager was standing behind the bar, very close to me, while he was talking with a buddy. He let me stand and wait, until the one and only bar tender finished what she was doing and waited on me. Don't make this a vacation, it seems there not there to accommodate, It's for if you live there. They don't care if you enjoy it.

Best kept secret

By JohnnyRoswell |

For most of my adult life I passed this area by thinking that the only 'real' skiing is the one about an hour north. I was completely WRONG!!!! The snow is at least as good (and probably better). Plenty of powder after snow events. Lift lines are generally short, main runs are well groomed, and the staff is friendly. Prices are fair.

Amazing Ski Weekend!

By marycbsmith |

My fiance and I traveled to Santa Fe for a ski trip over Valentine's Day weekend (also President's Day weekend) expecting a packed mountain. I was very pleasantly surprised! The weather was superb- about 50 degrees, and there were NO lift lines! I couldn't believe it!

There is a 30-45 minute drive from downtown Santa Fe to the mountain, but the views are so gorgeous, you don't even notice how long you've been driving. Also, I like that it's away from it all- not near as packed as Beaver Creek/Vail/Angelfire.

My fiance had never skied before, so he signed up for the "Never Ever" Group Ski Class on Friday. I took advantage of the time to go all over the mountain on slopes he wouldn't be able to handle.

I spent most of the two day trip skiing on my own. Again, NO LIFT LINES. It was absolutely incredible. I was able to get right onto the lift, and went on all seven lifts in one day. Apparently, this was the most snow Santa Fe has had in over ten years, so that explains why the skiing was so spectacular.

I have heard mixed reviews- some say this place is a great place for beginners, but I tend to disagree. Many of the resorts I've been to offer plenty of very simple greens, but I felt the greens were more challenging than what I typically expect. There was one beginner/bunny slope which my fiance stuck to, but he was not comfortable at all on the green that we tried at the end of the day.

Lift 7 was my favorite; the views were beautiful and I had the best time flying down Sunset Trail to Lobo. Best run all day!

I already can't wait for our next trip!

First visit to ski Santa Fe - was not impressed

By N5894SAmichelleb |

If you like long lines, expensive worthless ski lessons - then this is the place. Arrived 1.5 hours before ski lifts started - already had equipment (thankfully - the line was at least an hour long there). Waited an hour and a half to pay for lessons. Kids ski school had sold out - so had to do adult for my 10 year old. Was put in a group with 3 other kids (6-8) and these kids did not want to be there - they made snow angels & threw snowballs - the instructor never took them from the flat 10 foot square (in 2.5 hrs) - returned after lunch - no instructor - took 45 min for the managers to figure out where we go - now with 3 small kids & 2 first time women - they were further behind than the kids in the morning. The instructor suggested I just take my son and move him to the slope - which I did. What a waste of money and time. We went to Sipapu the following 2 days - free ski lessons - no lines & half the cost.

Great place overal

By BellaHump |

Just visited Ski Santa Fe on President’s Day weekend with the family. Skiing was super fun! It was our first time and our kids 7 and 9 absolutely loved it!! There are great instructors for adults and the kids ski school at Chipmunk Corner was awesome! The team was attentive and great with the kids! I was amazed at how much they learned. The kids area gave me a pager in case they needed me which they did not. The scenery was gorgeous!! It can be confusing when it comes to getting and returning your rentals and the ski boots are hard to walk in when you’re trying to figure it out. I wish there would have been more people directing us on where to go so we wouldn’t have had to walk around a lot looking. The only other downside was the cafeteria’s food was so-so and the price was expensive and lines were long. Other than that I would recommend for a family ski trip— especially for first timers with young kids. There were, though, plenty of lifts and high, challenging slopes for the pros. That was fun to see too.

To Instruct or not Instruct, this is question

By Vincent M |

Well, where should I begin. Paid over $200 for small group instruction for my two teen responsibilities. I pick them up after a very early morning start and they report that the group instructor focused all his attention on a ski bunny and left them with a Snow Plow that didn't bring them to stop.
My Advice to the Ski Instruction Management is to plant a Secret Shopper to be certain Ski Instructor Flirt less and Instruct More. Suggest the Secret Shopper Ski Students are:
1. Young, but not white, maybe African American Teens
2. Maybe at Hottie to be sure the instructor does't loose focus

In summary, if you have non white teens and you drop them off for a SKI School day, don't be surprised if the day ends with basic skills not part of your students muscle memory and bunny hill disappointments. They will however learn a valuable lesson, Blondes Have More Fun at Sante Fe Ski Lodge

Nearest to Santa Fe downtown

By maria c |

Fun for the family. Plenty of options. Small, but only 30-45 minutes away. Taos is hours away. And in the storm we had, I was very happy we only had to drive 45 mins. home.

Had a great powder day!

By Sandy G |

Ski Santa Fe had great runs with amazing views. Challenging for all levels of skiers. We enjoyed it much more than Taos Ski Valley the day before with similar conditions.

So enjoyed our trip to Ski Santa Fe

By esmorrow |

What a great couple of days on the mountain. We were lucky enough to have our children home for semester break. We had great snow, sunny days and pleasant helpful staff during our trip. Love being able to ski at such a beautiful spot.

Small but Adequate

By Pam T |

This ski area is small but the location and proximity to Albuquerque make it a great place to ski for the day. There is no lodging at this ski area, however, it is very easy to drive there for the day. There is enough mix of runs to entertain all levels of skiers.

Never Ever to Pros

By Frank C |

Well, not pros per se, but definitely two people looking to come back for more. Ski Santa Fe was the right place for my wife and I to learn something new together. As Floridians, skiing isn't something redly available so we needed to start from the basics. We came a day early to pay for our lesson, get our gear, and conduct a gear check from the people who work at the school. They applauded us for coming a day early. It came in handy because we were able to check for all the perfect measurements before getting out on the fresh powder.

We also lucked out with our instructor Marc "with a C." He was very patient and moved the class at the speed of the group and not one or two individuals. We luckily picked up the "pizza and french fries" maneuvers quickly and met every new obstacle with great instruction and zero pressure.

I've heard the location called "kindergarten" for skiers but it was perfect for our needs. Everyone from the equipment team to the instructors took the necessary precautions and attention to their work to assure all guests they'd picked the right place.

Beautiful views on the drive up. Well organized.

By Michael W |

A good learner to intermediate series of slopes. Has reliable snow most winters and is a friendly facility well used by locals and visitors.

First time ever for my husband to attempt to ski

By peach615 |

I was not impressed with Ski Santa Fe as it was Not vacationer friendly. The signage does NOT direct vactioners to the proper protocol for signing in. We had to search for the place to pay for the lift fee, then we found ut that we needed to first have to go to the sign in area, then sign waivers, then pay for the rentals, then finally make our way aound to pay for the lift fees. NOT IMPRESSED. If you do not want out of towners to spend money here, keep it up. However, if you want first time (and unfortunately only one time) new skiers to come here, please make it less confusing. However, you have a beautiful facility.

Great Escape!

By Jennifer |

This mountain was perfect in January! The way up, though, was a little bit of a nightmare for me - I’m highly afraid of heights! There were twist and turns all the way up for 30 minutes and the drive down was even scarier. Recommend 4-wheel drive and not to go over the 25 mile speed limit - let people pass you ha!

The kid program was great and the staff were super nice. My child wished they had more toys though.

Skiing was great! Loved the little restaurant up on the mountain and stopped for some $5 nachos and a beer with hubs for a quick date.

Overall, a great escape!

(Stop at the ski shop about halfway up for a $5 parking fee and sled with the kiddos.)

Good but plan ahead

By TravlingTexan |

Bring gear with you. The rental process on the mountain is a circus. Yes, we went during the holidays, but shouldn’t they staff/plan for that? Get there early to avoid the craziness. The drive up is nice. Once you are on the trails, the skiing is nice. The gift shop sells locker tokens. Parking was ok even when lots were full.

Great visit to Ski Santa Fe

By Jake V |

Our visit to Ski Santa Fe was what we’d hoped for. Renting equipment went smoothly, the lifts were well run and there were a lot of great runs for multiple skill levels. We skied on a Tuesday and Wednesday. We had learned from TripAdvisor reviews to arrive early. We arrived right at 8 the first day and were among the first in line for rentals. We were also able to park close enough that we could leave our lunch in the car and only rented a locker for shoes. It was good to know that once you open your locker you cannot use it again without paying an additional $2. At one point, my son was frustrated after several falls. Ski patrol stopped to check on him. “Wheels” was very kind and helped turn his day around. Overall great experience and I hope we’ll be back!!

Fun to Explore

By Jack C |

The trip to the mountain was not too long. Once up there we got our a tickets. A bit pricey. After spending half the day skiing we had a nice place to stop and eat at the middle the of the ski basin. The snow was good and had a great time overall. We will definitely come again.

Santa Fe Ski School experience

By Tim N |

For years, I kept having problem with the skis not actually parallel during turns on steep slopes. I thought it was due to the way I stand and was very frustrated trying to correct by researching online, trying different drills but didn't improve. I decided to take a lesson on 12/23/25. I wasn't sure if I could fix it but the ski instructor, Mr. Kurt Sullivan, pinpointed what I did wrong and helped to correct it. He is so awesome and took time to fix my boots, walked me through different drills, and showed me the tips on how to correct, improve my ski technique. I am very, very happy. It was one of the best decisions made. I am very grateful for his helps and highly recommend him. He is the best. Thank you.

Scenic Drive in Summer

By Beekeeperjudge |

This is a beautiful drive if you have a couple of hours (round trip) and want to get out of the Santa Fe summer heat. You will see New Mexico high country -- green, wooded and cooler.

Lovely!

By ThorntonNYC |

I visited during the summer and the drive was wonderful. Very close to Santa Fe and breathtaking views! The campgrounds on the way looked like tranquil places to stay. The walking trails were lovely.

Nice small mountain

By travelingtexas2019 |

Very high altitude usually produces good snow conditions. Good mix of easy/moderate/expert trails. Totemoffs, the "mid mountain lodge" often has bands on weekends and is always a great place for a break/drink/people watching. On new snow days, be sure to get an early start driving up to the mountain. There can be long lines!

Easy, family friendly

By luvplayacar |

Ski Santa Fe was so easy and so much fun! Great place to take the family. Day trips only. And I do recommend only driving a 4wheel drive since there are lots of shadows on the road that keeps the ice from melting.
7 lifts and all open at MLK weekend. I plan to retune every year now!

Huge fan, as an infrequent skier

By robotmuppet |

Been coming to SF for many years and really love this basin. Welcoming to people who don't ski that frequently, but with enough variety for all skill levels. Our daughter went skiing for the first time ever here and loved the Chipmunk Corner. Also, Totemoff's has the best Green Chile Stew in town.

Easy skiing

By CAM |

Nice place and friendly people. Although it was busy on a Saturday, you never felt the ski runs were over-crowded or dangerous. I had a beautiful day to ski.

Great getaway an hour from Albuquerque

By Kathrin C |

Love this ski area. Has something for every level and if you have kids, you can drop them off for ski school for the day while you enjoy the slopes. The bar mid mountain offers great food and hot drinks for when you need to refuel.

Good for the intermediate skier, like me.

By Herman B |

Nice mountain when everything is open, they have alot of intermediate fun trails connecting the upper and lower parts, reasonable lift ticket prices and ski rentals...

The main thing here is the drive.

By Townie-TRIP |

This is kind of part of the "Road of Enchantment" which truly is enchanting. Beautiful vistas, changing flora and hairpin turns made this ride a lot of fun. It was mostly closed when we went (restaurants and sky lift) but the ride was worth it

Another secret gem of NM

By HF-SantaFe |

Fast lifts, short lines, perfectly groomed slopes, interesting, challenging, relaxing slopes. Lunch with a green chili burger, the friendly atmosphere all around and decent prices. Before I forget - "easy to get there, and come back to Santa Fe?" There's a lot to smile about at Ski Santa Fe!

Best ski resort for your money

By acox25 |

This is my favorite place to ski. Perfectly groomed runs, awesome people, no lift lines. The town is perfect. Stay at The Lodge. Nice bar and restaurant.

Super skiing

By saildancer0711 |

Great powder for skiing or snow boarding. Normally pretty good depth, as well. Only about 20-25 miles from the hotels.

Easy, beautiful drive in summer

By Bowmanator22 |

The drive up to Ski Santa Fe (and back down the mountain) is a simply gorgeous and easy way to get some great views around Santa Fe. This curvy road is full of enchanting twists and turns, with some great little state parks along the way. You can get to the top and back in under two hours.

Some of the best skiing

Loved this place. Love the trails. And totemoffs bar and grill is fantastic too. Can’t wait to come back!!’

Pretty Drive up in April - Closed, but worth the trip

By Dan R |

As a first time visitor to Santa Fe, the drive up to Ski Santa Fe is worth it. The aspen must be beautiful when with leaves and the fall change of colors. The resort was closed in April, but take the trip up. A quick drive from town, probably 40 minutes.

Opening Day!

By Crystal C |

I have not skied in nearly 15 years, and decided to go while on a visit to Santa Fe. I had the BEST time! Ski Santa Fe staff, from rental, to ticket to lift operators are just awesome. They are patient, work hard to get the lift lines moving and have really good attitudes. The tickets are fairly priced, they have plenty of runs to choose from, at varying degrees of difficulty. Expect all the extras like ski school and a nice proshop. The rental prices are fair and it's worth getting there so you don't have to lug that equipment from the car. If you do bring your own, they run a shuttle from the parking lot to the base. It was only a 40 minute drive from Santa Fe, and it was very scenic. I had a great time and glad to find out that skiing is like riding a bike- it comes back!

Great for beginners; nice kids' school

By ertofu |

I'm a beginner and went here with my 5-year-old who had never skied. They have a great variety of slopes for beginners, and it looks like there are plenty of options for more advanced skiers as well. The kids' school is well organized, and my son had a great time.

Woderful place

By Eliseo L |

Great snow quality, beautiful views of the mountain, near of downtown, wide assorment of food, very good ski school for children, good service.
On the road you can find areas for sleding and walk with snowshoes or downhill areas.

Beautiful Drive in October for Fall Color

By IN_Travelers47906 |

We don’t ski, but we made the drive. We were there on October 5, and drove the road late in the day to see the fall colors. Locals had told us that due to the weather the colors were not as brilliant as in some years; however, they were amazing to an old guy seeing aspen in the fall for the first time.

Although the road is a bit windy, it is an easy 15-mile drive from town. There are several pullouts along the way, so you don’t have to do anything crazy to take a picture of that one special tree. In fact, cool your heals as you drive past your first golden aspens. Wait until you are 9-10 miles on your way. Instead of 1-2 aspens you are seeing hundreds carpeting the hillside. That is the time to get excited.

Always a Fave!

By renalrully |

I love Ski Santa Fe. I have had great visits there with my kids and also solo. I visit Santa Fe often and am not always up for the drive to Taos (which is also fantastic). When the snow gods have favored New Mexico, you can have suberb skiing in Santa Fe. This year was one of those years. The view from the top is stunning. I love the glades and the bumps, two things I do little of on the East Coast. There is terrain for everyone. The original lodge mid-station is fun. Live music, sun and happy people. When I was there solo, everyone was willing to talk and share advice on terrain and were just generally friendly. A local even bought me my mid-day beer on the deck just because I mentioned I was visiting. Bonus!

Our Go-To

By Chris L |

Living in Albuquerque, we love the fact that this is just 90 minutes from our home. It's a moderate slope, so appropriate for beginners. There are a variety of chair lifts and we have hardly ever had to wait in line to board one. We love the medley of runs and being able to access the different faces of the mountain. The main chalet has a large cafeteria and there is one chalet mid mountain that is smaller but offers food and alcoholic beverages. The rental staff has always been friendly and helpful.

High Altitude Skiing at it's best!!

By Jessica M |

I have been skiing at Santa Fe Ski area for many years. For several years I was a ski instructor teaching at Chipmunk Corner. The instructors are trained professionals where you will not have to worry about dropping off our children and enjoying a fun day out on the slopes while your kids are well taken care of. The skiing terrain goes from beginner to expert with some fun tree skiing. The snow is some of the best in the nation with light and fluffy powder that swishes over you as you glide down the mountain. I like to stop in at Totemoff's as the day is winding down and hot chocolate. In the spring Totemoff's is alive with skiers sitting and enjoying the beautiful blue skies and the fresh mountain air. Enjoy!

Ski Santa Fe

Place was awesome. Lots of Snow. Lots of runs. Great people, great atmosphere.
Every employee I ran into was very friendly, courteous and very helpful.
Lots of runs for your current ability whether you want to stay on Green Run or go to Blacks.
Will definitely visit again

When I went there was lots of powered so it was definitely a good ski trip for me and my whole family!

Awesome First Time Experience

By Nova159 |

We decided to try skiing while in Santa Fe and noticed that there was a Never Ever program here at this ski resort that covered lessons, rental, and a lift for the day. This worked perfectly for us as we had never been skiing before and didn't know anyone who had. We were paired with other adults who had also never been skiing which was a huge relief after seeing the little 6 year olds zooming down the trails around us. John M was a very informative instructor and helped us get the basics of skiing. Sometimes we got a little too much information but I could see how John thought that was important if your only skiing information came from that lesson. John also stayed after the lessons were over to help my girlfriend get more comfortable with skiing and figure out some problems she was having.

Our biggest complaint was from the instructions given on how to get there. Almost all the addresses listed online are wrong. Their website tells you for Google maps to enter in Santa Fe Recreation Area and displays a Google maps of their "location" which is what must have been their old office location. They say for GPS to put in 100 Artist Road but just putting that in to Google Maps doesn't seem plausible at all because it's right above downtown Santa Fe and nowhere close to the mountains. We finally called and figured out Artist Road is where the road signs start that lead you out to the mountain. It would have been much more intuitive to put that online and update the map next to the directions as we were trying to plan our day while the resort was closed and had to call right as they opened to figure out how to get there. Overall though, a great first experience and good day here.

Superb Spring Skiing

By Diana Hartley |

Even though this has been a terrible year for snow in New Mexico, the skiing for our Spring Break was perfect. There were no crowds and we never once had to wait in line at the Quad lift. They do a great job of grooming and made the best of a light snow year. Totemoff's is one of the nest mid-mountain bars at any ski resort. Nothing beats an Optimator as you sit outside at a picnic table and listen to fantastic music.

Very nice ski area

By red1990 |

Grandkids took ski lessons and had a great time. Only problem is a parent has to stay there if child is under a certain age. 40 minute drive up the mountain from Santa Fe. Need to check that out. If you don't ski nothing else to do up there. Still great for the kids

Lots of fun

By Arizonatrip |

Great snow this season love taking a break at the lodge and having a cold one. Cool when they have music outside and the snow bowl contest

learning to ski

By littledominican47 |

This is a very nice & beautiful place. Make sure that you buy the pass were you save $25 every time you ski. The card cost $59 but it will pay for it's self after 3x that you ski. Look them up online as they have different group playing music.

We went skiing at this facility back in 2009 but I couldn't put that date on there so I just used May 16 but honestly was a great great time going skiing for the first time we rented skis and everything but I think we got like the 1980s version so I would recommend renting spend a little bit more money and getting the more up-to-date equipment. we actually didn't know there was a training area and went on the mid-level and it was the funniest thing in the world because we didn't know how to ski and you have five people going down this massive hill and just stumbling all the way down so there is an area for beginners and for children and I would highly recommend doing that a few times getting used to it before you go on the mid-level or the high-level

Great hill, nice people, close to town

I have a season pass to Ski Santa Fe, also known as the Santa Fe Ski Basin. Not a huge resort but a local mountain, great variety of terrain and you never have to wait very long in line. Stop mid-mountain at Totemhoff's for a warm drink or lunch!

Well maintained

Great ski instructors! We took Ski lessons with Bill, he was very patient, understanding and was an excellent coach!

Skiiing Santa Fe Style

By MickeyDeefromSA |

The drive to the Ski area is easy, beautiful and invigorating. The "accommodations" are all that you could ask for. Many trails, great conditions, well-attended by staff and patrons both. A great time - even in March. Would I return? Yep, I would.

First time skier - great experience

By Bianca |

The price was absolutely great - the first day I took the beginner lesson and thought it was a great value (about $100 for the ski lift ticket, skis, and class). The classes could have been a bit smaller but the instructors were quite friendly. The second day I got to go on my own. I was a bit scared on the longer green runs (as I'm afraid of heights) but they were really fun. I highly recommend Sunnyside and Easy Street for beginners.

great medium size ski area

By diverguy |

I was there at a time when it had not snowed much for a few weeks and several friendly locals I chatted with on the lifts apologized for the poor snow quality. I live in Vermont and am accustomed to much worse conditions so I actually found the snow at Ski Santa Fe to be excellent.

The place was not crowded during my visit. Really good advanced / expert trails.

Beautiful scenic route

By Rick G |

We heard that it was snowing in the mountains, and decided to drive up to the Ski area. It was really a beautiful experience. The drive up the mountain was thrilling, especially with flurries that soon turned to heavy snow. One of the many great experiences in Santa Fe, New Mexico

Good option for Family Ski Trip

Incredible place for the entire to spend time skiing or learning, you can rent the equipment in the very same place, prices vary depending on age and hours (complete or half day)

Mountain Top Fun

Made way up to Ski area. We didnt ski but looked around and lots of activity. Stopped along way for some enjoyable hiking down below. Looks like a nice little ski area for locals but many from out of state.

Saving your money

By KimberlyX |

We went there during Christmas 2015. It was generally good. The lift ticket was cheaper than Colorado ones. But ski rental on the mountain was not cheap. Basically at least it was $32 or so per day. There was a ski rental store on the half way to the ski area, the price sounded cheaper ($2-3 less), but they charged you with tax, so they were the same indeed. Buying 3 or 4 day ticket together could save you some money.

Christmas was very crowded. They did not have wifi, the worst thing was no cell phone signal!
They started bus service from the town since Christmas 2015. Good thing!

Fun time

By Maria Otelia C |

The distance to Ski Santa Fe was reasonable- 11 miles(about 30 minutes drive). My son enjoyed snowboarding and he went back to this place thrice during this week. There were lessons offered for snowboarding and skiing.

Peaceful and free

By Charles043 |

It was a pleasant surprise to drive up and find that seniors 72 and older may ride the chairlift for free! The aspens are peaking.

Small Ski Valley with Easy Slopes

By HollyTravels365 |

Ski Santa Fe is a great little area for beginners and those looking for a relaxing day of skiing. This would be a great place for children to learn and inexperienced skiers to ski. The bar/restaurant at the top of the mountain is a great meet up spot. It is a bit of a drive from central Santa Fe, so plan to spend your day there. The staff is very friendly and should you need assistance, Ski Patrol is always around.

Great Value

By roadstarAustin_TX |

Lots of trails, lines not too bad. Great snow. Something for everyone. Not the fanciest place, but I had a great time. Lodging was also very nice at a great price just 30 minutes away in Santa Fe. I will be back.

Ski Santa Fe

By Brooks |

Only 25 mins from downtown Santa Fe, it can seem like your personal ski resort on the weekdays. Green and blue ski runs are well groomed, and there are many tree runs, and some quite tough black diamond runs as well. Restaurant is mid-mountain very close to the upper terrain lifts. Staff is super-friendly, and lifts rarely have a line. Tops out at 12,000ft, so the snow stays late into the season.

First time skiing

By denhou1974 |

Our first ski trip. Arrive early because it takes awhile to get boots that fit (go up one size). We took the lessons. They were helpful but the instructors move quick. A few people in our group felt as if they were left behind. It was not too busy, we didn't wait more than a couple of minutes for a lift. There were personnel on the mountain to slow people down near the intersections. We'll be back.

Do not put your kids in skii school..they will not want to come back

By Tdbostwick |

My husband is a boarder..we decided to take my kids snow skiing for Christmas. Brought their cousins..all 5 kids and one adult because she skii when she was 12. End of day..my kids said they didn’t want to come back because the skii instructor was rude. Every time my little ones express to her that he doesn’t know how to stop or turn..she would condescending tell him “you know how to turn”. She ignored them the whole time and they ask if they can get on the lifts..she told them that they didn’t have time. I have it on videos with when he told her that please help me..I can’t stop and I can’t turn..she just turn around and went off. I think they would have had a better time if they were taught by their dad and uncle. I wouldn’t waste my money in this place.

2019 What a Year!

By Bonnie C |

They are calling this the "year that keeps on giving". I have skied Santa Fe for years. I don't ever remember a better year. Lots of snow and always well groomed.

Skiing!

By hikingsierra |

Had a great day skiing here, nice snow and weather. Not a super crowded hill even for a Saturday. It was my first time skiing in many years, and I had a good time. Great views. And I didn't get run over by a snow boarder, which has happened to me numerous times before. Would go again.

Pleasant afternoon

By TrudiC44 |

One ski lift runs weekends only from Labor Day weekend until Columbus Day weekend. It was very crowded Columbus Day when we went last year. This time there was no waiting at all which made the experience much more enjoyable. This year we decided to walk down the mountain. It wasn't too steep but it was rocky. As seniors we took our time and meandered a bit. Just a reminder, it's over 11,000 feet at the top, so beware of the elevation. Don't forget water and sunscreen!

Family Fun with Awesome Kids Ski School

By Noah M |

My family and I came here on the recommendation of a colleague who said it was a great family ski mountain. He was totally right -- we had a truly great time here and my four-year-old kid hasn't stopped talking about how much fun ski school was.

For the ski school -- our kiddo was nervous about going to a different school without his friends, but the whole staff with the 'little chips' was truly amazing. Jim and Sarah in the front office somehow made all the kids feel welcome and comfortable while getting everyone checked in. Then on the slopes, Mila and Greg were terrific instructors and made sure he had fun. We went for two mornings, and at the end of every morning, he was excited to "show us how to ski" and "give us some pointers" -- it was awesome. When it was time to go on the second day, he was upset that we wouldn't be coming back the next morning.

This all worked really well for me and my wife, who hadn't gone skiing together since he arrived. There were plenty of trails to keep us occupied in the morning, and the kiddo's package came with rentals and a lift pass for the rest of the day so that one parent could hang out with him on the bunny slope and the other could enjoy some quiet lift rides and sunny afternoon skiing. We totally enjoyed the laid-back vibe, short weekday lift lines, low crowds, and low stress -- perfect vacation material.

Again, I can't say enough good things about the ski school and family experience -- we will be back next winter!

Spring Break

By cansand |

This place is awesome! We were all never ever skiers. Took lessons our instructors were Dick and Petra. Both of them were excellent and very friendly made us feel right at home. It was Texas Spring break so it was busy on the beginner lifts but the other lifts went pretty fast. You can rent equipment but you have to get there early cause the line was long in peak times.
They had the lodge were you can eat and take a break. We really enjoyed Ski Santa Fe. Can't wait till our next trip!

Great time!!

By Luke H |

We just went this last weekend and it was awesome for all 4 of us! Skied all day long and the kids loved it! The equipment rental and lift pass employees were very nice! It’s only 30 mins from our hotel in Santa Fe. Decided to take the drive from Dallas and so glad we did! Thank you Ski Santa Fe!

See rhe golden aspens

By Peter O |

During the fall of 2019, two photographer friends and I went in search of yellow-leafed aspens in northern New Mexico and southern Colorado to shoot. We ventured into southern Colorado first, but we were too late: most of the aspens had already lost their leaves.
So we drove to Santa Fe and looked toward the ski basin, easily visible from many points in the city, and we could see massive swaths of yellow. So we located the road to the ski basin and began our ascent.
I had been on that road 35 years ago on a late winter ski trip, so I didn’t have a good frame of reference for what we would find. But were we ever in for a treat!
The road is paved all the way up, and there are plenty of pull-over-and-look spots along the way. The afternoon we went was clear and the pavement was dry, so traveling was easy and the vistas were breathtaking. Aspen leaves “quake”, and since they are translucent and shiny, they shimmer and glow with the sun behind them.
There is a park at the entrance to the basin itself that is ideal for picnics, and many aspens are on lawns instead of slopes, making taking beautiful group photos easy. Since the forest has evergreens too, the pallet ranges from dark green to spring green to bright yellow, with an very occasional peach-colored tree here.
I suggest you venture up there some fall. Be sure to take a windbreaker, water, and sunscreen, and at least some fruit.

Brilliant Skiing

By Chris L |

This is a great venue for beginners, moderate and advanced skiers alike. The mountain itself is not as steep as Taos, for example, so it's a good place to start out. My older knees like this slope better than the steeper ones. There was a short wait at all chair lifts (we went for the half day pass) but the chairs themselves move fast. The chalet at the bottom has a nice sitting area for lunch or a snack break. They do not sell alcohol there, however. There is alcohol at the upper chalet. The staff we encountered were all friendly and helpful. There is a free shuttle service to get you from the parking area to the ski area.

Ski Santa Fe does not care anymore about its season pass holders

By Steve N |

Despite 21 inches pf new snow in the last 48h, Ski Santa Fe has still not opened the upper mountain. Only the beginner area on the lower mountain is open.
My ski pass is now worthless!

This was my first time skying on I had a blast! the weather was just wonderful, the night before they had 7 inches of new snow and the skies were sunny and clear.

Great Experience All Around!

By Jeana H |

My husband and I visited over President's Day Weekend. This was my first time ever snowboarding. I took a private lesson with Billy, as my husband has snowboarded previously, and he was AMAZING! Two hours was just what I needed to feel comfortable on the slopes with my husband without making a huge fool out of myself. He was very so calm and explained the basics so clearly that I went up to one of the biggest runs the same day of my lesson! If you take a lesson, Billy is the person you want to instruct you! The cost of the lesson was 100% worth the payout because I never wiped out like I thought I would, which I think is why my experience was so great! The mountain is beautiful and so peaceful and exactly what we needed! I was very impressed with the resort altogether. Everyone was very helpful and kind, and the experience is one we won't forget! We already want to go back and can't wait for our daughter to be old enough to go with us!

Skiing, what else?

By landscaperjohn62 |

Well, it was great skiing! Lots of snow; about 86 inch base. Super warm on Saturday and snowed on Sunday. The best of both worlds on the slopes on the same weekend.

A good place to ski but not a good place to eat

By Thenhan N |

A good place for never ever skiers. If you go there and want to have a private ski lesson, look for Marc.

Ski Santa Fe

By butterscotch5 |

Nice mountain. Some of the trails not as wide as I'd like. Good place to refuel at lunch half way down the mountain. Enjoyed skiing there so often because we loved getting a hot tub and massage @ 10,000 waves Japanese Spa 3 miles from the bottom of the mountain road after skiing all day. Aaahhh!

Applaud their Accommodating

By Kaley_Daniel |

We showed up during Texas Spring Break with a group of seven "never-skied-before" ranging in age from six to 40. They typically don't teach under eight in their ski school, and even though they were short/handed on instructors, they made an exception since our group made a whole class. It might've helped that we also had an adult who was not going to ski and be on hand for the six-year-old.

IF you're going to do Ski School, don't make the mistake we did - your rentals and lift tickets are lumped in with the Ski School cost. (Since we didn't rent from them, I'm not reviewing them for the ENTIRE experience they offer.) Build in time if you need to be fitted for boots, skis, poles, and helmets.

Yes, the cafe is expensive ($40+ for two burgers, two pizza slices, three bags of chips, four M&Ms, a pudding cup, and two bottled waters), but it sure beats lugging a bag of snacks that you have to rent a locker for and cram them into. IMO, better to plan for the splurge.

Stunning 40 minute drive to see spectacular views over Santa Fe

By Roy Awbery |

The Ski area was closed when I got there but this meant that the roads were nearly empty. On the crisp sunny day that I drove this made for a really enjoyable drive with frequent stops to take pictures of the views. There were still people up there snowboarding and sledging but the chair lifts and the amenities were not open and so you take your chances. Stunning scenery though. Be warned, its about 10,000ft above sea level so take lots of water and be aware that, if your're like me and live at sea level, the altitude really does affect you.

Chipmunk Corner

By Michael_M_72207 |

This is a review of Ski Santa Fe's Chipmunk Corner. My 3-year old daughter (she is almost 4) spent two days in ski school in December 2018. She had FUN.

I cannot speak highly enough of our experience with Chipmunk Corner. To a person, the staff and instructors were fantastic with my daughter. The instructors did a good job of keeping the kids hydrated and fed. We were somewhat skeptical about the offerings for a 3-year old, but these concerns were alleviated when we saw the program and saw how much fun our daughter was having.

Most importantly, the instructors did not push too hard on the ski instruction. When my daughter was tired, the staff would take her inside for a break/snack or put her in "snow play," which involved building snowmen, swinging on a ski left chair swing, getting pulled around on a sled, and other fun activities. One of the instructors made origami cranes that are sitting on a shelf in my daughter's room now.

As far as logistics, we arrived at Ski Santa Fe early to get my daughter checked in. We filled out the paperwork and then said goodbye. We received a pager that the staff would use to page us if we were needed (I got no cell coverage unless I was on one of the high lifts). The ski school area is completely separate and apart from the main ski area.

My daughter was upset when it was time to go on our last day, and she already wants to go back. We we will definitely be returning to Chipmunk Corner.

Thanks so much!

Great Snow, Fun Mountain

By Rock W |

We lucked out with the El Nino snowfall in 2015. 70+ inches at the base with all runs open in late December! The staff were very friendly and helpful across the board.

The resort was packed with people also. If you rent your equipment at the mountain, or enroll your children in ski school, get there by 8:00 AM, or you will be in for a long wait. The ski lodge reminds me of a public school cafeteria in layout and food quality, with no fireplace, TVs, or comfortable seating for people that don't want to ski. If not for these issues, this ski park would get 5s.

Fortunately for the skiers, the ski park runs enough lifts to accommodate the crowds. They open runs all the way from double blacks to bunny greens, and it takes at least 3 days to experience all of the runs properly if you ski all levels. The tallest runs are above 12,000', and conditions at the top can get very windy with an afternoon snow. Pleasantly, the lower runs remain much more peaceful during the snow storms.

Nice ski area. Family Friendly.

By Jill T |

We enjoyed the ski slopes at Ski Santa Fe and liked the variety of runs offered. We skied green, blues, blacks. We had nice powder while skiing and the weather was amazing. From what we observed, the amenities offered for brand new, beginner skiers appeared nice and not overwhelming for a new skier or adults with very young children.

Great place weekdays

By dimar992001 |

Been skiing at Ski SF for many years and it still is one of our favorites, especially this year when hubby can ski free at 72. YAY! Weekdays are fantastic with wide open runs and no lines. There are runs for every level of skier.

Great drive

By DENNIS F |

very enjoyable and cool (Temperature) drive. many scenic stops along the way to the top. Had a really great morning excursion.

Nice, but watch out for scams

By Will |

It is a very good mountain to ski for beginners, prices are reasonable and it's close to Santa Fe.
Rental store and lift tickets open at 8 am and the lifts at 930 am. During peak season it can take you more than an hour to rent equipment there, so the best is to arrive super early or rent them one day before in the afternoon, or someplace else.
I am giving it 3 stars instead of five, because we contracted a ski lesson with myskilessons.com (the same as lessons.com, tennispro and other names), and we never got the instructor.

Epic Day

By Rich30350 |

I was visiting Santa Fe and couldn’t time our day at Ski Santa Fe any better. Skied on Friday after a 3 day dump of 50”. The slopes are 40 min outside of Santa Fe. We arrived at 8:05 and the lifts started up a bit before 9. This is a bargain at $98 with tax for an adult ticket. The conditions were amazing. The lift lines very short (it was a Friday). We took so many runs and spent time eating and drinking at the mid mountain bar and grill. This was an epic day.

Fun with family

By hestebanr |

This place is soo good specialy for someone who hasent seen the snow ever! My daughter was very pleased with the place everyone was very friendly

Nice local ski area

By family0f6traveler |

We skied a half day on Christmas. Staff was friendly and plentiful. We were able to quickly move thru the rental process and get to the chairlift. Staff was efficient in keeping lift lines short. The snow was good on the open runs. A nice place for beginners to ski.

Extra Tips for First Time Visitors to Ski Santa Fe

By drhlh |

First - the average rating is not for the actual skiing or the mountain, but for how disorganized the ski facility and process seemed, and the layout. I get it’s the busy holiday season, but if, like us, you’ve not been to Ski Santa Fe there are very few signs or staff to guide you or assist with what is located where and the sequence of things. We arrived at 7:30am and got close parking, then over the course of two hours trekked back and forth between the ski school line, private lesson line, very long equipment rental line and lift ticket lines. Over the course of the day people poured in, no tables available to sit or eat in the one indoor snack area, lines there as well; it seems the facility has been outgrown by the number of visitors but maybe it’s again just the holiday period. Would be nice if upon arrival a staff member could direct new visitors to avoid all the back and forth. I looked at reviews on here before going and also called to ask questions but information was minimal, maybe the reviews were for non-busy times of year. So that’s why I’m writing this review, it might help someone else and I wish I had known some of this to better prepare and know what to expect our first time here. :)

The snow and actual skiing were great at a Ski Santa Fe.

Extra tips and info:
—No cell service on mountain.
—Book Chipmunk Corner way in advance if going during holidays, even if you don’t know if you’ll use it. Can cancel 48 hrs before for full refund or half refund if under 48 hrs.
—Don’t take a child two and under unless you made a prior reservation for the chipmunk corner, and the waiting list for that if you didn’t have a reservation is a mess in and of itself, you put your name on it only in person at 7:30am (we were first), and then wait two hours to see if you get in, it seems there could be a better process for this, and usually you don’t get in per the staff; daycare for 2 and under is more limited in staff and spots apparently. There is nothing for them to do inside the main facility and nowhere to sit or hang out, except a table and stool in the eating area, and there is only one bathroom with a changing table to be found in the main facility near some lockers.
—A local told us leave the mountain before 2pm if you want to avoid traffic later, we heard they closed the roads one day due to a car getting stuck, and traffic was backed up. We didn’t have any problems and have a four wheel drive truck. On a snowy day there was a truck clearing the road and dropping sand/salt.
—Cottams ski shop and Hyde park area (halfway up/down the mountain) are great for free sledding and tubing, just pull off and bring your own sled/tube or can pay $20 for the round plastic sleds at cottams. My kids 2 and 7 loved doing this and didn’t want to leave.
—People say rent ski equipment from Cottams beforehand but only if you make a reservation; while inside trying to buy gloves and goggles etc we saw people being (abruptly) turned away as if they should have known to book a rental reservation months in advance. It’s super small inside, we finally got someone to check us out after milling around aimlessly for a while, we were on our own for selecting our items, we only spent $400 on accessories (geez), assuming they cater to locals/regulars/those with reservations?
—The bar Totemoff’s people mention “mid-mountain” is only accessible by skis from the ski area, not mid-mountain via driving.
—Skiing and sledding will wear the kids out, plus the altitude, going from 8am-1pm was plenty for us and they were asleep in the truck before starting down the mountain. Going later than early morning will also have you parking far from the facility entrance.

We stayed in downtown Santa Fe a block from the plaza square, which was approx 30 min from the ski area if no traffic, was easy to get to.

Friendly and engaging staff

By Paleomomo |

My husband and I drove up to the mountain in our plain clothes in December. The parks and winding roads to Ski Santa Fe was a delight. We had no idea what to expect. Immediately upon walking up to the resort we were greeted by a very friendly and helpful gentleman. He told us where everything was that we could easily walk to, but also directed us to a 1/4 mile hike on the slopes we could walk as we were. It was Toomoff’s which was a bar and served lunch. It was great! We looked a little goofy being there next to the skiers and snowboarders, but it was one of the highlights of our entire trip to Santa Fe. We will definitely be back and next time we will ski!

Unexpectedly good

By Tifani73 |

Wanted to go to Taos but it was 2 hours away and was too tired. So we decided to trek up to Ski Santa Fe. It was only 30 minutes from Santa Fe and it was nice and low key. The skiing was good and the lessons for my son were great. We were not expecting much but it was ask around a very good as ski trip. Don't overlook it just because it isn't Taos.

Friendly team, Efficiently run, great skiing

By LifeInTheSun |

My wife and i visited the week before Christmas. We had great snow, but what really impressed us was the friendliness and helpfulness of everyone working here. Brandon in the rental ski fitting area was especially helpful and gave us some great info about the resort. He went above and beyond. From the minute you walk in, it's clear that the group is trained and managed well. Everyone was attentive, friendly, and eager to help. Well done. We will be back from Florida.

Great day of skiing and pleasantly surprised by the terrain quality and variety!

By OutdoorsEnthusiast12 |

I was in Santa Fe for 4 days in early/mid February 2019, after spending three days in Taos along with one fabulous day of skiing at Taos Ski Valley (9-12 inches of fresh powder). I fortunately met a Santa Fe local while skiing at Wolf Creek Pass earlier on the trip, so we met up and skiied at Ski Santa Fe. About 1 inch of snow was forecast, but we were lucky it was dumping on the way up to the mountain, and we ended up getting 6 inches of very light and nice powder. My local "guide" knew all the best runs (we did mostly expert runs), so I was able to get a great highlight tour of the mountain and was really impressed with the variety of terrain, especially the abundance of great tree skiiing! The base facilities and food were fine, so even though this is a relatively small, locals resort, I was very satisfied and will be back again in the future!

Great skiing, great people

Back here for the first time in 15 years. Fantastic skiing conditions. Great adult beverages at Totemoffs. A bit chaotic and crowded on the Saturday of Presidents Day weekend. I'll be back.

Great hill!

By reddust44@aol.com |

Ski Santa Fe has really long runs and good snow. It rarely get above freezing in the winter so they hold their snow well. Ski all day and it will wear you out. Facilities are above average as well as the food.

Uncrowded Gem!

By Nakanoob |

Many, many years of skiing this area. One of my favorites. Great snow and not crowded at all. Sometimes you have to look for someone to ride the lift with if you are solo! Make sure to get some green chili stew at Totemoff’s mid lodge. And a local brew, Santa Fe Brewing makes great beer!

great mountain, not aspen but great

Ski Santa fe is small mountain with enough for any type of skier, is not Aspen, Vail or other places in Colorado, but for the near by areas of Santa Fe, it is really great

Great day

By danfm9 |

This was our first time skiing so we purchased the 2 lessons package however we got stuck with a terrible instructor who spent more time talking about the "personality of the skis" rather than teach us how to ski. So we forfeited the 2nd lesson and taught ourselves. Turned out to be a pretty good day. The rest of the staff from start to finish were efficient, friendly and helpful. I wish they had a larger place for eating as the walkways and halls were packed with people eating as all the tables were taken.

It doesnt get better than this if you love recreational leisure skiing by day and a beautiful city filled with nightlife and fire at night. Its historically good and the views are amazing. Its the ski resort near the city and its wonderful. Enjoy

Bad customer service

By Getaway257933 |

I also spent two hours in a traffic jam and despite calling the resort twice saying we weren't going to make it in time for a 1pm lesson, they insisted we come. They were part of the reason for the traffic jam as they were stopping cars at the entrance to the resort so they should have know how bad it was. of course when we got there they told us we were too late and my daughter was in tears.

Amazing day care staff 3 month and 3 year.
Skiers loved the terrain ( and through the woods). Great views. Great snow. No food/gas access road.

Poor customer service

By SkiDave |

Had issues with accessing their website resulting in missing special rate. When contacted customer service, was told too bad, should have done it earlier. I guess Website issues are ok on last day of special. great skiing though.

Underrated

By jim b |

First: No slopeside accommodations. You'll just have to resign yourself to staying in Santa Fe, 30 minutes away, at off season rates.

Pros: Suitable choice where not every one in the party is an avid skier. Good for a long weekend. Easier to get to than you think. Santa Fe is an easy hour's drive from Albuquerque by car.

Yes, they really do have expert skiing here, tree skiing especially. You could hurt yourself.

It's been years since I've taken a lesson, but during my formative years ( I learned to ski as an adult) Santa Fe had the most consistently good ski school.

I noticed that the food menu is almost reasonable. I think they just neglected to raise their prices. Good snow conditions this year. Good quality of snow due to very high altitude.

Taos is a reasonable drive for truly ambitious skiers who want/need to learn humility.

Cons: Some of their tree runs could use a thinning for those who aren't thinking of auditioning for a Warren Miller movie.

Technically able groomers but odd grooming policy. The black runs don't get groomed except perhaps once a season and that's that. No blue diamond mogul runs. Also few bailout type runs where an advanced intermediate can try out some moguls and then divert to a less challenging run. Once you are on a run you are sort of committed.

Tip: "Muerte" off the quad and "Parachute" off the top are really advance intermediate groomers.

Great times!

By Raymundo G |

Ski Santa Fe is a small skiing area but with many fun runs for young teenage kids and family groups.

On the 24th of December it had enough snow and not lots of people so we would go onto the chairs fairly quickly... we truly enjoyed our time here!
Not cheap, but they do have many different price levels for kids, students, beginners, and so on...

Food on the slopes was better than in other ski areas..

People and mountain are first class

By Matthew M |

Just got back from a 4 day trip to Santa Fe where me, my wife, my 9 year old son and brother in law spent 3 of those days skiing at Ski Santa Fe. First off, I am an intermediate skier, and the others are just beginners. The mountain itself is not huge, but has plenty of runs for all abilities. The ski school is well attended and the instructors all seem top notch that we heard as we went down the runs. I unfortunately had a rough accident getting off the quad lift and broke 3 ribs and almost bit through the tip of my tongue. Not going to share the gory details, but the response from the First Aid team was amazing. They were right there to assist and got me down the hill. Jack who runs that team, took 1st class care of me. Overall, the people that work there are amazing, super helpful, especially with the others in my party that were more new to skiing. Workers there go out of there way to help. This is no high end, CO or UT mountain, meaning no overpriced meals, no overpriced, rentals, no overprices lessons, etc. The quality of the facility is great, lots to eat, places to sit, rent equipment, whatever you need. I saw a lot of disabled skiers and blind skiers, it was really great to see the attention they got and the joy they were having on the mountain. In addition, there was numerous international skiers, which says a lot of the reputation of the mountain. And the 30 minute drive from Santa Fe is really beautiful. I've skied all over the US, and I really appreciated Ski Santa Fe, it has wonderful people and a nicely sized mountain. Going to get my ribs healed up and we are going back next year!

The Aspens were gorgeous

By Wdilda |

The .5 hour ride up to the mountain is worth it no matter the season. Lot's of spots to picnic , great views and in October the Aspens are pure gold.

Perfect conditions

By Charles043 |

I couldn't resist going. Over age 72 skies for free. My day cost me $2 for a locker to store my shoes. The conditions were perfect, and I’ll guess this is one of the best snow years in a while. I found the mountain a bit boring, but that's because I’m an older guy on blood thinner who mostly sticks to groomers. Sadly, there wasn’t much to offer in the way of black runs which were groomed. But I can say that with the base they have now, there was a lot of challenging black terrain and trees which aren't available when there isn’t¡t this much cover. In my younger days I would have plunged into a lot of it. As it is, the lifts are old and slow and I’ve been spoiled by the high-speed quad era which has not yet reached Santa Fe. Still, it’s hard to be free.

Nice Skiing- Easy Access

By Dfwchristopher |

What a GEM, great skiing- fast lifts and friendly employees. This is really a great location, not far from Santa Fe, the skiing is not for hard core skiers, but if you like to relax and take it easy with a green or blue, this is your place. It does have black/diamond but not world class as say Taos, or Wolf Creek. The rates are awesome, pleasantly surprised by how cheap a day pass was. Truly a nice experience- Enjoy!

Simply outstanding skiing

By Swimfins |

I learned to ski in Santa Fe as a child, and skied there off and on as a young adult, but before this trip I had not been back in a good 25 years. I regret waiting so long to go back.

We were there the week after New Years, and the skiing was simply fantastic. We were blessed with clear skies for 3 of the 4 days and great skiing temperatures. While we didn't get any new snow, the slopes were in great shape, and almost every run was open (I think a couple of blacks were closed, but I only ski greens and blues nowadays). While there aren't any high speed lifts, we experienced near-zero lift lines, so it wasn't too bad.

Thoughts:
Buy your lift tickets online if you can.
Food is fairly expensive in the cafeteria (understandably), but if you're able to do so pack a lunch.
There are shuttles from the parking lot on the weekend - but there weren't during the week (but not so many people, so parking was close anyway)
Pay attention to the weather - the sole road to the ski area is two-lane, narrow, steep in places, and twisty - while they plow the road in the event of snow, you'll need to be properly prepared if the road is snowy - you can't go without snow tires, 4WD, or chains.

Great for beginners

By conrodz |

This season I learned how to ski and this was a great spot to learn. Easy street is a semi-easy, fun ski run. I also took a few lessons this year and I can say the ski school was the best choice I made. Spooke was my trainer and he made the learning process worry free. He helped stay calmed and relaxed when learning ski basics. By the end of the season, I was able to ski on my own and felt comfortable skiing in easy street, and the other green runs. The drive to ski Santa Fe is beautiful and scenic, the location is amazing.

Smallish and expensive, but packs a punch

By Ben F |

Not huge, not cheap, but a remarkably good ski experience 15 miles up the hill from the Plaza. High speed chairs, nicely variable terrain, seldom too crowded, and you'll be back into town in plenty of time for margaritas.

ski right in your own backyard

By Ellen B |

what's not to like about the ski hill. It's about 25 minutes out of town not very crowded and has a little some thing for any level of
skier/rider. This year they even started a bus so you can let someone else do the drive from town. Visiting in the summer? There are lots of great hiking trails starting from the parking lot. A popular spot for mushroom collectors.

We'll be back

By Stryderz51 |

For our first family ski trip we chose Ski Santa Fe (we also stopped by Taos on this trip). Between Taos and SSF I'd take SSF. SSF looked a lot better organized and kid friendly. Their kids ski school had lots of staff who took good care of our two. We'll definitely be back.

Best ski resort in the Four Corner states

By HubCPrairieDog |

Here is why I recommend Ski Santa Fe: (1) very inexpensive compared to Park Cities and Boulder to Aspen, (2) wide variety of slope difficulties -- accommodates the whole family, (3) close to the city of Santa Fe which has some of the best food ever.

First-time Skier loves the slopes

By nbwrig |

First time skier! Ski Santa Fe offers group or private lessons, and I spent the day with my instructor (Shane) and a small group. Shane was patient and got us on our skis quickly. By the end of the day, I was flying down the green hill.

Ski Santa Fe provides lots of lunch options in their cafeteria. Prices are a bit expensive, but the food satisfies and tastes great!

Parking is just down the hill a bit. Brings layers for varying mountain temps. Also bring cash for locker tokens. And if you want to drink, BYOB in a cooler in your car.

We will definitely return.

Good Skiing, Poor Lodge

By Allan R |

Skiing is challenging and lots of trails. Good for young families with all different levels of skiing. Lodge is no frills cafeteria. Many people just bring their food (which I would recommend) food and bad.

Sledding with the grands

By Dawn C |

We drove up towards the ski slopes and let the grandkids have a try at sledding. So much fun playing in the snow. We will be back!

Great Ski Trip

By ih1958 |

We visited 2 days after a 7" snow, all the trails and lifts were open - very good snow about 53" base. We are intermediate skiers and found plenty of blue trails. The Mountain is just over 12,000 ft and the views from the top of lift 3 are incredible, it was sunny both days we skied. There is no lodging at the ski area which is about 12 miles from Santa Fe - I was glad we had 4wd, but there were plenty of cars up there too, I'd say 30-45 min drive. The car parks and parking along the road were served by a shuttle (open stand-up trailer pulled by pickup truck). The food in the café was expectedly spendy ($3.50 16oz bottle of coke). Best of all there was little to no wait at the lift lines even though it was a busy weekend (MLK) and we got many, many runs in. There were only a few people in line to buy the lift tickets. We will be going back, we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Santa Fe which is on the other side of Santa Fe, and a little dated but worked well for us.

Good vibe, but needs updating

By jared l |

Santa fe is my favorite place to ski skied here every year for 35yrs, weather is warm jan-feb good time for spring skiing afterwards snow quality is always spotty. No lodging on the mountain but drive from town isn't a deal breaker, most resorts charge 200-400 night for rooms anyway on the mountain. Lift prices are little high for the place. Ski shop is fine, but no skis or boots to buy. Nice low key chill vibe overall. My preferred
Place.

Limited green runs

By Linda N |

If you ski blues and blacks, fine, but if you need greens for a half day to warm up, you are rather out of luck.

Great place for everyone in the family

By David A |

Ski Santa Fe has a wonderful array of easy and difficult runs to keep everyone happy. Just as good, it sits above one of the best cities in the country!

My Husband Went and Loved It!

By Mindy M |

My husband went to Ski Santa Fe so I'm writing this review for him. He had skied in Colorado for years and was excited to see what Santa Fe had to offer. It was only about a 1/2 hour from our hotel and he did warn that the road is a little icy so beware, especially when you leave. He loved the views and thought the skiing area was perfect. He spent about 5 hours skiing. He rented skis so his overall cost was $110 for just him.

A Close by Wonderland

By skyhawk13 |

The area is only about 20 miles north of Santa Fe and offers a large number and different challenging runs. You can not stay overnight here but it is an easy drive. Arrive early. You can take lessons and rent gear and they have a large cafeteria for a meal.

Details of how it works

By Laura E |

Want to know what to expect? Read on. I’ll try to provide a lot of details as I did not find much in that before we went. Here you go:

- March 13-19 (2022) is spring break so expect 2 + hr waits for rentals and weekend prices .

-rentals- veeeeery confusing and crowded but it all somehow worked out in the end. If you signed up to do a lesson that included rentals, YOU DONt HAVE TO STAND IN LINE! This is crucial. Ask someone in a red jacket where to go if you have a lesson. We were able to go straight to the rental back door and get started.

- lessons- bring a pen bc you have to fill out a form for each person in the lesson. Don’t loose that paper bc you need it at each station to get equipment, have your Drivers License #

-boots- don’t try to try on your boots in line to get skis. They will be tight, your kid will fight you, you may need help. Just get all your stuff and go find a bench. If you have to exchange, there is a “boot exchange” in the locker room. The girl was super nice and came and helped my sons get their feet in and buckled.

- helmets- they have them , but it is one little line in the locker room. Try to rent them with your bibs from the outfitters around town (more on that below)

-if you don’t have lessons, you have to wait in line to get gear. We got there at 10:30 and had all our stuff by 1 and that was with the short cut. Good luck if you don’t! I called at 9 and they said the line was already out the door. If you have gear, you can go straight to the window and get lift ticket.

-parking is free . We got there at 10:30 and there were spots but it was filling up. You can drive up to drop off people and gear and then go find a spot. (May get one honoring if you are lucky)

- if you are going to ski more than one day, consider renting your gear for the full amount of time and just hang on to it. Rather than re-renting each day. They said they had storage but - agaiN- the line was so long that we just took them with us.

- bring cash- dollars to be precise. You need $2 to get a locker. Lockers are small. They fit only 2 pairs of snow boots. It is one time use. If you go back to open again and so you turn the key to open it, you have to put in more money to lock again so plan carefully

-don’t forget to tip your instructor! They are awesome. We didn’t have cash and our guy gladly texted me his Venmo.

- bathrooms are clean and all the gear was well kept and clean. They ran out of ski poles, but then I found a huge pile up at the ski school so maybe you can snag some up there.

- we rented bibs from Cottoms which is half way up the mountain. We called 3 times to ask if they think they would run out or if we need reservations and they said no. We went up there around 9, there were 20 ppl on line ahead of us and it took an hour. They had no large or XL- they had run out. my son is 5’9 and 140 and he wore a small so it worked out. We should have gotten helmets from there.( one less thing to figure out at Ski Santa Fe) Any way you slice it, you are waiting in lines.

- everyone was SUper friendly and helpful. They clearly love their job. So all in all , it turned out fine. Just expect delays, expect a little chaos, but worth it in the end and your will be great.

Have fun! Great place for families- just very crowded and busy!

Very Clean and Organized

By Rommy Y |

The place is well organized, people are very respectful and cordial. The lines are longer than Ruidoso but the mountain is much bigger. Even when it's a lot of people in line they disperse in the mountain. The parking lot is huge and they have carts that pick you up. You can bring your own food and they have microwaves for you. The food they sell is really good with reasonable prices and with a lot of selection. We rented the skies there, but must of the people showed up with their own. The bathrooms are very clean as well the installations.

Pleasantly Surprised - Really Fun Mountain!

By Josh S |

Great local mountain which is very convenient. We flew into Albuquerque, rented an Outback via Hertz, grabbed a hotel in old town Santa Fe and simply drove to and from the ski area each day which worked out fine (there are no ski-in ski-out options at SFSA that I am aware of).

Based upon other TA reviews we purposely avoided holidays and weekends for our first visit to Santa Fe Ski Area (SFSA) and we really lucked out. We missed the big holiday and pre-school crowds and skied mid-week (last Tuesday-Thursday) and it was great.

One day was a bit foggy but not a big deal and we had plenty of terrain to cover on the lower part of the mountain. We were then rewarded with Blue Bird days and lots of fresh snow and spent our remaining time working the upper runs. We dined at the mid-way resturant which had an adequate selection and the food was good, as was the beer plus the staff and vibe was really fun. The base resturant/visitor area is huge and for the mid-week days was uncrowded.

Since we skied mid-week the lifts had next to no lines so we were able to log lots of vertical. We were initially worried that the mountain would be limited in options but we were completely wrong. There were plenty of runs and challenges for all levels and since we never had to wait in a lift line it was no problem to have a great (full) day of skiing.

Having skied NM area locations like Purgatory, Taos and Ski Apache (Ruidosa) - for many many years - but never SFSA - we realized that we had been missing a well kept secret. We also noticed that the costs at SFSA (lift tickets, etc) were significantly lower than the big name resorts in Colorado, Utah and elsewhere.

All around a good experience!

Good ski area not great

By Scielbi |

Nice small ski area. Good tree runs and not crowded during the weekdays. Very busy during the holiday season though.

Great start for beginners!

By Rachel R |

Took my husband to ski for his first time and there were plenty of wonderful staff to guide us along. They gave great tips for different trails and where to really start out. They drive up was beautiful and the trails were fun and challenging at points. Will return!

Enjoyed the skiing, that's about it....

By Carley B |

The skiing was pretty good. Was that because of the fresh snow? Maybe. But that's really the only positive thing I can say. The drive up the mountain is not fun. No signage. No cell service. Parking lines were backed down the mountain. The worst part was that it was so crowded there was no where to sit! Standing in those ski boots all day long killed my legs. The locker area and cafeteria were suffocatingly packed with people. The amenities here are pretty lackluster. If you go take some Walkie Talkies.

Family Spring Break 2016

By Tammy S |

Returned to Santa Fe for Spring Break 2016 with family of five. Second year for ski school for our kiddos and want to give all of the folks at "Chipmunk Corner" a shout out. Great instructors, friendly staff, and overall, a great experience! Skiing at Santa Fe is no frills as it is not a resort but love proximity to Santa Fe and close enough to drive from Texas. The only con is that Mother Nature could help out with some more snow!

Great Mountain, Great Snow

By Rick C |

I see everyone complaining about the traffic jam. I say, get up earlier. Seriously, Who starts skiing at 11 am? Lazy . And dont drive up the mountain with a 2 wheel drive and ruin my time

Not decent people, and I don't say that lightly

By colorful500 |

I was in the midst of pulling together my winter ski plans at SSF in September when my dad lost his home to Hurricane Ian. 4 feet of water throughout, and I jumped to help him with FEMA and insurance paperwork since he had no internet, sketchy phone, and no electricity. Fast forward half a week and I contacted SSF to ask if they could cut me just a little slack on five passes I was about to buy the week before and extend that pricing ONE business day rather than hit me with an extra $150 cost. Sent them the waterline photos and the insurance paperwork from the house that I had been busy with instead of focusing on my recreation. Nope!!! Apparently they use computers and because of computers they, unlike so many decent and caring businesses when crises hit, cannot do ANYTHING. So I have my lodging that was booked and paid in September, and now they'll get $150 extra for me having jumped onto the FEMA queue for my dad instead of booking my skiing. Prices go up again in two days so despite my asking multiple times this month, asking them to have some higher-ups consider the decision, time's up. I guess my $150 is a big win for them.

great mountain

By Takarr |

Had a wonderful family ski trip. Fortunately the weather was nice! This is a nice mountain to ski. Most of the blues are quite easy (compared to Colorado) which made this a very family friendly place to ski. I like that the lodge allows you to bring in your own food and even has microwaves available. The only negatives: cell service is very spotty, and the drive up is very winding road....would be treacherous in bad weather. Also, I think they should sell lift tickets online at a discounted rate like most resorts. Other than that, we loved it and will return.

Amazing snow this year

By Cabella L |

Ski Santa Fe is a big secret. We had over 267 inches of snow this year. The ski basin is closing this weekend on the 14 of April. There are amazing runs lots of snow but only the cool people know about Ski Santa Fe. It's 1100 feet up. But the best sking in the south west. Trails are from beginner to advanced. We had fresh powder almost every other day this season. The lifts are great and of course the snowboarding is awesome. Just want to spread the secret!!!! At holidays busy but if you get there early you will have the runs to your self.

Ski Basin- Santa Fe

By lulubliss |

You would think that you would want to go to the Ski Basin in the winter to ski- not so! This area is the most beautiful area to hike I have ever been to! At the top you can walk along running streams and if you have furry kids they will love to be off leash and explore this beautiful area!

Needs new management

By Not Y |

A great local mountain with so much potential. Management stresses the importance of customer service, but they don't have a clue what is needed for great customer service. When management treats employees like pieces of machinery, peons, or worse- how can they expect employees to treat customers well? Being rich doesn't qualify you to be a manager and it shows. Hire real business managers. Go away abruzzos

Great convenient skiing

By fireman262 |

We have come to Ski Santa Fe two years in a row. It's a great family ski location. It doesn't have on site lodging. It's 12 miles from Santa Fe so no big deal. We have had excellent runs both years. Well taken care of runs, groomed. Staff was friendly. My teenage daughters like the green runs and I loved the green and blues. We rent our skis and we're happy with the rental process. Two thumbs up overall!!

Close and Lovely day area

By bpark2017 |

I have been coming many years and I have always enjoyed this friendly day ski area. The intermediate runs are always groomed and the ski class is excellent for beginners. The high elevation makes this a go to area for Texans like me with just a 20 minute daily ride up the mountain. The combination of ski area and downtown attractions is hard to beat! The hotel prices in town are much cheaper than staying slope side in a resort area and there is more to do in town than at a resort, especially with a family.

Invigorating half day on the slopes

By Kerry L |

I visited on a Sunday morning. I was by myself, so had reserved a private lesson with an instructor, Brian, to show me the slopes. Brian did an excellent job of providing me some tips to improve my skiing and I spent a very nice 4 hours exploring the slopes. This resort is wonderful because there are lots of trees and a good mix of terrain, from beginner to advanced. Even on a busy Sunday, waits for the lifts were short. There is a convenient cafeteria in the lodge, as well as a bar/grill midway up slope (did not get a chance to visit here). There is no cell service but there is free wifi near the lodge.

Great Fmily Ski Vacation

By DBergstrom |

It's been 25 years since I've skied. Family of four. Great staff, great condition, did I say great staff. Usually ski resort staff are like golf pro shop staff, rather snooty. Not here. Gould not have been nicer, more helpful and accommodating. Man, when did skiing get so expensive. Busy over the holiday break, full of families and college kids on break. I saw lots of parent’s credit cards going around. Merry Christmas Mom and Dad. Still a great time, My family loves this place.

Always a great place to go

By Kimberly A |

We have been visiting this place for years and have never been dissappointed. Best slope grooming ever. 20 inches or 107 inches--the skiing is always great. No lodging on site but, you stay in town at reasonable (non-resort) prices. Lift tickets cheaper than a lot of other places. 15 min. Drive from Santa Fe.

Many people do not know we have a ski basin in Santa Fe

By Cabella L |

Probably the best snow in the area. So many trails and the vistas are unforgettable. You can see Albuquerque when it's clear. This is a family place or just ski if you want to. You will be exhausted at the end of the day. Hot meals and a ski shop meets everyone's needs.
Most years the Ski basin closes in April because the season is over.Spring skiing is awesome! If you are a skier don't forget Santa Fe.

Great skiing, atmosphere, green chile stew and beer on the sunny deck

By robotkin |

Why go all the way up to Taos and wait in lines when there's a great slope in the backyard. Little bit of a drive up the mountain, but take your time, its a one lane road and you'll be there soon. Its a shame the moved the ticket price up, but they've done a lot of work and its worth it.

Damn Expensive but fun!

By Adrian L |

Going alpine skiing is really really expensive, $60 for an adult ticket and $50 for a kids all day pass here, but if you have the dough than its an awesome experience.

The place is exquisitely beautiful offering many runs ranging from black diamond moguls to easy green runs and adventure lands. Navigate your way through the forest on small trails by yourself or ski down many of the large runs next to others. A very enjoyable experience about 20-30 minutes up the mountain from Santa Fe!

Beautiful drive up.

By Shelley S |

The mountain doesn't open until after Thanksgiving. Unfortunately there is nothing open up on top. We were hoping a restaurant or bar would be open. The drive is scenic but very winding. There is no lodging at the top of the mountain.

Great staff, lots of fun

By MrsFoodie |

Although it was my first time skiing (SO i don't know much about the trails) the bunny hill and "easy Street" hills were lots of fun, So was the beginner trails (the green marked trails up the mountain) The staff was incredibly nice and helpful. The hot cocoa was delicious and the view on the chair lifts..OMG beautiful. The drive up to the ski base alone is great. Go check it out yourself ,

Great for beginners

By PETER H |

Took my son who had never been skiing before. Started with the "never ever package", it included 2 lessons, rentals and lift ticket all day. We started lessons with Ray. He started him on the conveyer lift and after some initial lessons had him up and down the small beginner hill. By lunch time he was on the green lift! It was a great beginner experience!

We didn't ski-there wasn't any snow. We rode the lift up and walked down.

By C5686CEbarbarab |

What a fun trip. Such a short drive from Santa Fe to the ski hill, and what a scenic trip it is. The lodge is clean and neat, but the weather was great, so we stayed outside. They had an event going, with a live band, which was good, and they served beer and wine. But all of that was at the end of our journey.

We bought one way lift tickets, rode to the top, which is at an elevation of 11,250 feet. The view was amazing. Gave you a bird's eye topographical view of the area, complete with a viewpoint of various landmarks. Upon the advice of a lift operator, we followed a road down the hill. Along the way, we came upon Frisbee golfers. That looked like a challenge, especially at that altitude.

This is a great trip to get you out of the city, and into the woods, that everyone can do, since going down is a bit easier at that elevation.
You might want to attempt this later on in your trip, when you are a bit more acclimated. We also saw a lot of people simply just riding the lift up, walking around on top, and then grabbing the lift for a ride down. They are open chairs, that seat four abreast, as opposed to an enclosed tram.

Average

By drdudethatswho |

Nothing special here. Lift ticket prices fluctuate and half day prices are the same as full day. The road to the resort is will take about 30-50 mins based on weather. Food prices are terrible, so bring your own food, bevs, and alcohol. The trails are fairly good, but stay away from greens if you snowboard.

Beautiful topography

By Tom H |

We drove up the hill to see the ski lodge. There wasn't any snow on the ground but it was a beautiful drive. The state park was very inviting and the overall view at the top of the amounts in was quite stunning.

Great slopes very near downtown Santa Fe.

By mr_larry_smith |

This is a large and good ski area near downtown Santa Fe. There are five lifts leading to more slopes. There is ski daycare, cafeteria and everything you would expect.

Best in New Mexico

By paula_s |

After a very unpleasant experience in overpriced and boring Angel Fire and Taos Ski Valley, we decided to check Santa Fe during Spring break and were very positively surprised. Even though there is no option to ski to door, it is so much nicer experience and ski lifts prices are more reasonable ( 60% less than Taos). There are many very interesting double diamond runs and really pleasant atmosphere. Just 30min from Santa Fe downtown, there are many nice old hotels with many places to eat and walk.

Great Family Ski Area

By Shamerider |

This is quick 18 mile drive from the downtown area. It is well maintain. Just know going no booze at the bottom of the hill have to go to mid mountain location. Great staff.

Beautiful Aspens

By VirginiaLove2Travel |

Heard the Aspens were at their peak color so we decided to take the drive to the ski resort. We took the chair lift ($14 round trip) up to 12k feet and then walked around taking great pictures. There are plenty of hiking trails to wander about. The weather was great so it was a great day trip.

Tree Skiers Paradise

By James O |

Although it's not a destination ski area Ski Santa Fe has lots of tree and glade skiing and some challenging chutes for serious skiers. Because of it's high altitude (10,300' at the base lodge) the quality of the snow is often quite good.

Great Spring Break Ski Vacation

By wearethemillers |

The skiing was great despite the lack of snow in the last month. Of course, the sunny weather was an added bonus. The lines weren't too long on the lifts and the snow was well groomed.

We missed being able to enroll our kids in chipmunk corner for lessons the day of, despite the phone convo I had with someone on our way up the mountain. 🙄. However, we were able to get semi-private lessons for our kids with instructors and may have gotten the best for our money. Charles was very patient with our daughter and her friend (ages 6&7) and Bobby knocked it out of the park teaching our son (10 years) to snowboard! He loved the entire experience and went on and on about how great his instructor was. I will say that I'm really glad neither of them got the instructor who so rudely told me to move because I was "in the middle of the run" in front of a class full of kids. There is nothing marked where they do the school and I was sitting with my daughter during a break in her class.

Otherwise, it was overall a good experience. We rented our equipment from Cottam's on the way up to the mountain. That experience was the best I've ever had with equipment and service.

Skiing the way it used to be...in a very good way

By Yablonski |

We love Ski Santa Fe for its charm and authenticity. While not as large or challenging as Taos, there are plenty of runs for all skiing ability and rarely have we waited in a lift line. Even over Christmas. As a lover of Taos Ski Valley, I had never really considered Ski Santa Fe seriously. I wish I had opened my mind and tried this hill sooner. I've skied on three continents and Ski Santa Fe holds its own for a day destination slope without lodging at the base. The 45-minute drive up from Santa Fe is easy and very scenic. The view of the desert valley and distant Jemez Mountains to the West is spectacular. My favorite thing about the on-mountain amenities is Totemoff's, the mid-mountain lodge. Go inside an order the tamales from the bar! You will not be disappointed. The best ski food ever! Or order any number of items from the outdoor grill including hot chocolate. Or opt for stronger drinks inside the bar. You won't find a terrain park like many of the larger resorts offer but boarders and skiers can find challenging terrain in many places at Ski Santa Fe. I highly recommend this mountain if you're visiting the area.

Nice Family Option

By Pdxgirl817 |

We have been skiing at Santa Fe twice now and enjoyed both times, but some helpful tips are a must to enjoy this very popular and crowded site.
The ski area is very easy to access from town, we stayed at the Drury Plaza, excellent location, and you can easily pick up rental gear from Cottam’s on your way up the mountain. Plan ahead and reserve your gear online so they have it waiting for you.
The biggest piece of advice is get to Ki Santa Fe early in the day. The slopes open at 9, but you should be up there by 8:30 at the latest. This provides you with the best parking options, a chance to sign up for ski school, get your lift tickets and avoid ridiculous lines.
This location is extremely busy and you will have lift lines all day. That is just Santa Fe, but the ski school options are nice for kids and higher up the mountain has lighter lines.
As I mentioned, get your gear ahead of time at Cottam’s. If the weather is questionable get tire chains/cables at the local Walmart. If you don’t use them you can always return, but you don’t want to be the car that can’t get up the mountain and stops all the traffics on the single lane road.
Lift tickets are $80 adult and $60 for students. They do offer military discount with ID.

Fund day of skiing last Saturday in February

Wow...what a great place to ski! We had one adult in group who never skiied, took the lesson package and it was well worth. I loved how compact and easy to navigate the lodge was..easy to get to rentals, restrooms and dining area. We skied mostly greens and blues. Gay Way trail was awesome..incredible vistas. Staff were overall friendly and helpful. Great healthy options in dining area. Rarely did we have to wait more than a couple of minutes on most lifts. I want to go back! :)

Fun, fun, fun!!

By LittleR0cker |

I've been skiing at a lot of places...Washington state, Oregon, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Colorado, and New Mexico. I can honestly say that this place was one of the more enjoyable experiences. The slopes are set up extremely well for getting kids started. Both of our kids picked it up really quickly here. The facilities are good as well as the food. If you're looking for a laid-back day without tons of double blacks, then this is the place.

Great skiing

By springmissy |

This a beautiful, slightly remote, ski area. While the skiing facilities are good; getting there can be hazardous! The slopes are a mix of difficulties from very beginner to expert. There are also ski schools and overnight ski storage
When we decided to ski Santa Fe, there was very little information online. The Ski Santa Fe webpage was more like a glossy brochure which failed to give the real “how-tos”. So we booked our flights and hotel and decided to figure it out!
The town of Santa Fe is about 15 miles from the ski area. We had read about the “blue bus” that provides transportation to the area. BUT the schedule did not fit our needs. We are past the up at dawn, ski all day phase so catching a bus at 8 am or waiting til 11 am for the next bus did not meet our needs. We decided to rent a car to get to the slopes.
We did a trial “drive” and were about to give up on finding Ski Santa Fe, when the sign popped up. Fifteen miles on the twisting, turning, hairpin roads of the National Forest took about an hour. There is a good amount of free parking available when you do get there. On a weekend, after a foot of snow, parking filled up and skiers parked a long way from the ski area.
Ski rental is available at the ski area. It is not a customer first or well-designed system; so be patient. As an alternative, there is a ski rental place (part of Christi’s Sports) near the park entrance. If you have the ability to transport skis / boards / boots, we were told their equipment is better and rental is cheaper.
Along with free parking, lift tickets and refreshments at the ski area are very reasonable. The lifts were in good repair and the staff was great.
This year presented a LOT of snow to the area. They had 28” in 24 hours. The next day, the drive took 2 hours. Staying closer to the ski area (ski in / ski out) is not an option. So plan accordingly.
As for wi-fi and phone reception: do not count on it. We were not able to use our phones at all while in the area. Enjoying the skiing instead.
In all, we enjoyed the trip and skiing. However, given the stress of the drive, we might think hard before going again.

Colorful Aspen Trees On Display

By Kathleen L |

We rode the chairlift from the base to the top and enjoyed the marvelous fall colors of the Aspen trees. We arrived a few moments before 10am when the ticket office opens and the lift operates. Our timing could not have been better, the trees were magnificent.

Place is Excellent

By Derek L |

I absolutely love Ski Santa Fe. I skied there 5 times last season (2014/2015). Great place to ski. The 2 upper lifts take you to 12000+ ft. Awesome runs off both. Few lines. Parachute is a great run. Sunrise and sunset are fun to cruise. Lobo is fun mid mountain. There is a bar with music mid mountain as well.

Always 1st class!!

By David D |

Ski Santa Fe never disappoints! They really exude the New Mexico charm! Everyone on staff is welcoming from the minute you drive up! Parking attendees greet you with, "Good morning!", you walk through the gate to a "Welcome to Ski Santa Fe!" and everyone beyond the gates treat you like you are their only guest! Special shout out to Luke in the Ski Patrol Aid for helping my boy recover from the high altitude. The 2' of powder dumped on us over the 48 hours we were there really was the "cherry on top" of our short weekend from Texas!

Good option for family

By ckbrasil |

Overall a good experience for a reasonable price.
My 8y.o. son was a first time skier, Last time I skied was 20 years ago and pregnant wife had to stay with 2y.o. boy; so, I was ok with a quick experience not spending much.
Pros:
- rental equipment staff was very nice
- prices seemed reasonable
- it was Spring Break so lot of families, but didn't seem overcrowded
- close to Sta Fe downtown
- the place to sled on the way to the ski area was a a great surprise; many kids having lots of fun, for free.

Cons:
- lack of food options; a bit pricey.
- the only restaurant's staff was clearly fed up serving at 1:30pm; the pasta guy made it very clear, saying it out loud. Had to wait 15 min for 2 small bowls, he didn't want to understand my order, giving it to other girl who came after us; he Said ran out of salad and bread (menu says pasta comes with both items), told me to ask the cashier for a discount and guess what - they didn't want to discount. I had to argue and then 2 salads magically appeared (I made sure to watch them preparing them). My son waited 15min for 2 pizza slices, had to speak up otherwise the guy serving (another unhappy staff) wouldn't serve him, passing to other customers.
It's a shame the restaurant isn't at the same level as the rest of the complex.

Cross Country Skiing Too!

By HermanTheGerman-inTX |

Cottam's Ski Rental up the mountain had our ski ready, in and out in 10 minutes. Friendly service. Cross country ski area is remote from downhill ski area, quiet, well laid out. Enjoyable.

Santa Fe's Secret

By 1608 |

Ski Santa Fe is a great choice for skiers of all levels. It's a 40-minute drive from downtown Santa Fe, and the conditions this year are fantastic. Lessons are available at all levels, and the mountain is challenging enough to satisfy the most demanding skiers.

Great for all skiers and snowboarders

By Tommy G |

My wife and I have been here twice, once in March 2015 and once in February 2016. Both times we had a blast. Hotels are very affordable in Santa Fe, the food is unique, the town is quirky and fun, and the skiing is awesome. The ski shop has a bunch of cool stuff too.

The snow quality was near-perfect- not icy, nice and powdered, plenty of un-groomed glades if you're into that. They've got a great mix of easy, intermediate, difficult, and expert runs. It was my wife's second time skiing ever, and it was an awesome place to learn for her. I am an intermediate to advanced skier, and I never got bored.

We were living in North Texas at the time we went to Ski Santa Fe, and it's less than 8 hours from Wichita Falls, less than 5 hours from Amarillo, less than 8 hours from Lawton, and less than 9 hours from OKC. To me, unless you're an expert skier who needs a big mountain with bowls you have to hike to and tons of ungroomed glades and stuff, it doesn't make sense to drive all the way to, say, Breckenridge to ski. Save yourself the time, go to Ski Santa Fe, and have a blast. And it's about HALF the price. What a deal! They've got a great bar halfway up the mountain that serves awesome warm drinks and great tamales.

If you're from Texas and you're learning to ski, or going with beginners, you got to here. Even if you're a great skier, you'll love it here.

We rented our stuff from the mountain and it was fast, priced right, and the equipment was nice.

great conditions right now

By xtra4 |

wonderful new snow makes the skiing here really good these last couple weeks. There are no crowds, no lift line.

So Much Fun!

By GREGORY S |

My Nephew really enjoyed his ssnow-boarding lesson. Watch for special discounts for children's lessons, my sister found a great deal. Make sure to visit the cafeteria for lunch and some delicious hot cocoa. Parking is not much of a problem since there are shuttles to take you to and from the areas. Ski equipment is available to rent as well as a pro shop on the premises. A great time for the entire family. Dress warm!!!

Small, Short Lines, Groomed, and Inexpensive

By dgordon10 |

My family and I went there for Spring Break. The first thing you'll notice is the size...it's a fraction of the size of the other Colorado ski areas I've been to. However, it some ways, that's a great thing. The cost of skiing here is less than half as the other ski areas I've been to and the lift lines are short. I never waited more than a few minutes to get on a lift. Because of the size of the ski area ALL of the runs were groomed. To top it off, all of the staff I talked to were helpful, kind, and grateful that my family and I were there. This ski area is definitely at the top of my list.

Additionally, I would strongly suggest that you ride the bus to and from the ski area. It costs $5 each way and they give you a $5 token to use on anything except alcohol.

Happy To Ski

By jaztinker |

Close to ABQ Ski Bueno works when you want to ski and need somewhere close. We skied two days. I read all the comments about lack of cell service and dismissed it as people that were addicted to their phones. WRONG! So frustrating when you are with a group and get separated, want to stop for lunch and need to let the others know where to meet or contact the people that are picking you up, and the ones that are at home waiting to make you dinner. They need to at least get service at the base so you can text. With that said the snow was terrific, the staff friendly/helpful and the quad chair lift moved quickly. The lower mountain/beginner slope was crowded and the dual chair lift was slow. Upper mountain had some good terrain. Multiple days and you might get tired of the same runs but we spent two half days and had a good time (we would have had longer days if we could have communicated better spent lots of time looking for members of the group). Lift tickets were $58 for half day. The second day we experienced back ups going up the mountain and challenges with the parking (big snowfall night before) but once on the mountain it was not crowded. Spending an hour crawling up the mountain was tedious.

Excellent place to ski

By Shopandtravel |

I have been going here the last several years. The instructors are top notch, great hills, and the food isn't bad either. Great place for beginners especially.

Very beautiful drive

By MnWonderer |

The drive up the mountain was very beautiful, it did take some time and was slow, allow time for that. The staff very good.

Great skiing!

By G z |

This is a wonderful ski area. The only draw back is the drive up the mountain.
This is not a ski in ski out property. The cafeteria has very good food.
Avoid Christmas holiday time as it is very crowded.
Ski lessons, a nice ski shop for ski clothes and accessories and a perfect Mountain.
Long runs and a nice beginner area. Also the ski school for children is a great value, Chipmunk corner.

Hidden Gem of a Ski Area

By culler83 |

I am an expert skier who has enjoyed Ski Santa Fe over 40 times in the past 8 seasons. It is a real treat of a mountain (big enough to offer enough varied terrain for every skier level that you will never have to take the same line twice), but unheralded so you rarely have more than 2 groups ahead of you at any of the upper mountain chair lifts. I would not plan a vacation around coming to Ski Santa Fe (go to Taos), but if you have other reasons to be in Santa Fe in the winter than this is a GREAT locals hill with relatively cheap lift tickets and medium length runs over terrific terrain is sure to put a big smile on your face.

Great Day Skiing... My home slopes.

By Chris K |

I've skied Vail, Beaver Creek, Steamboat Springs and I enjoy the fancy slope-side restaurants, lodging and other amenities (not lift pass priced ..LOL) but I always enjoy coming home to Ski Santa Fe.
This is a great place to get some turns in for the day!
I like skiing in the glades. I always manage to find some untouched powder to drop into when coming down through Big Rocks Glade.
Lines move fast, I've never really felt crowed there other than the beer line! ...they always have some good local brews in the lineup.
Staff is always friendly.
The groomers are always in good shape.
It would be cool if they had lodging at the top...

Can't Wait to Bike Down the Mountain

By mbotoole |

We took a ride up the mountain (15 miles from Santa Fe) to check out the ski area. It was a beautiful drive with spectacular views and many hiking and camping spots along the way. We later read that a shuttle bus leaves from Santa Fe to shuttle skiers up and back and will be available this summer for cyclists all for the low price of $5. What a ride it will be!

Great place to ski

By Chris C |

We went on Spring Break, and I can't say one negative thing about this place. Great service and help from the staff. The lift lines were short, and there were plenty of options for varied abilities of skiers. The lessons were great too. Neither of my kids had ever skied before. After their lessons, they were all over the slopes. If you want a ski resort where you stay in a lodge at the basin, this isn't for you. OTherwise, this is a great ski location. Stay in santa fe, and make the short drive up the mountain.

the place is not the best to take lessons

By JLRendon |

they are getting big groups and takes forever and you end not learning a lot, the place is good for ski if you know and it is a little crowded.

Good for a Ski Weekend; Consider the Shuttle

By The_Texas_Rambler |

My family and I went to Ski Santa Fe over President's Day weekend. We expected crowds, and by the end of Sunday they arrived, but it was never bad.

The longest we ever waited for a lift was about 5 minutes, and lots of times (especially in the morning) we skied right on.

We've been told this was an amazing year for snow, and they weren't kidding. Though we never had snowfall while we were there, the runs were well groomed and had a good base. We didn't see any patchy spots or icy areas, though we didn't ski every run.

The lifts are well-run. Sometimes the operators have to turn into drill sergeants to keep things moving, but I personally like that. It keeps people from trying to muscle forwards, and keeps it orderly.

There are several food options at the mountain, ranging from an indoor cafeteria style area, to two different outside grills... one at the base, and one slightly higher. We got burgers, green chile stew, and hot dogs, and all of it was good. It IS expensive, though, since they have captive customers.

Speaking of cost, there are several people on here complaining about how expensive lift tickets are. While it does cost more than some resorts, it is DRAMATICALLY cheaper than others. If you've skied other places, especially places like Aspen or Vail, you won't have sticker shock.

I do wish you could buy lift tickets on-line at a discount, or on-line at all, but at this point that's not an option.

As with any mountain, there are slow areas where the schools are working. Take this seriously.

There are a number of good runs, but for an avid skier, I think you might get bored after two full days. That said, it's great for a weekend!

My last recommendation is that you consider taking the RTD shuttle. RTD is running a shuttle from downtown Santa Fe to the mountain. It runs three times a day during the week, and several more on weekends. It's $5 a person, but then you get a token worth $5 that can be used to reduce the cost of your lift ticket or food. Then it's $5 to get back to town, so basically it's $5 total. It takes you right to the front gate, past all the parking, and was incredibly convenient. This is the first year they are offering it, and I hope it continues, because it was great to sit back and relax while riding up that twisting, winding road.

Beautiful scenery, good runs

By Newmexiconativ |

I've skiing most resorts in New Mexico but this was my first time at Santa Fe. It has great intermediate runs and gorgeous scenery. It is far less challenging (steep) than Taos. Good facilities and rental shop. Snow was still quite good (middle of March) despite streak of warm weather in New Mexico. Easy access and right outside of Santa Fe, where amazing restaurants, shops, lodging and culture abound.

SKI SANTA FE - Yeah!!!

By Edmundo1012 |

It's only 20 minutes from work to the lift lines. I sneak away for a few runs down the hill and can be back in the office before anyone knows different (it helps that I'm the boss). Sometimes I'll bring my employees too and we all love it.

Great mountain!

By annabelle h |

Terrific vertical, lots of terrain, several almost empty chairlifts, crowds only in base lodge.Wonderful outdoor grill at Midway.

long ride up but worth it

By Sandy C |

bring your camera (but don't drop your lens cover on the lift)
I did so I bought one that attaches to the camera. When up at top you can see for miles. It was awesome when the Aspens where in bloom, beautiful yellow

Skier Delight

By Ned F |

My first visit to this resort was on Monday of President's Day weekend. My concerns about crowed conditions were unfounded. The chair lift capacity & choices prevented any noticeable wait. The food selection and service staff were superior. We were delighted by the long, scenic runs that are well suited for intermediate and expert skiers. We returned to the mountain on Wednesday, and often enjoyed the feeling that we owned the resort as we never waited a moment for a chair, and often had runs to ourselves. We are looking forward to revisiting this wonderful resort!

Best Opening Day

By acox25 |

Thank you Ski Santa Fe for a great Thanksgiving/opening day. The snow was perfect. Your grooming is awesome. You are all friendly and helpful. It's our favorite place to ski.

The Sky Lift

By Traveler2AM |

I can't comment on the quality of skiing because I went in the summer. However, the views from the lift were not worth the cost.

Top of the World

By Deborah B |

We visited Santa Fe 3 days in May.The ski lodge was closed but the ride up the mountain is stunning, 13,000 ft I believe , thru the clouds. Only 28 degress out an we did not have winter wear , or would have hiked. Alot trails , well marked , easy access. Many picnic areas, we packed food but to cold to get out an enjoy. But if we had packed warm clothes we would have enjoyed picnic in this gem of a setting , STUNNING!

Great ski area

By OldOkie |

We have skied Santa Fe several times but it has been several years ago until this visit. It has a high base of around 10,000 feet which makes for great snow. The workers there are super friendly. It's not a huge area but not real small either. The only complaint I have is the 15 mile drive up the mountain, but the skiing is definitely worth the drive. I love their green chili stew in the lodge try it.

Our Favorite New Mexico Ski Resort

By Whitney W |

We live pretty close to NM so we have skied most of the popular places in NM. This one is our favorite. It’s a beautiful area with plenty of runs for all ski levels. I’m not good at all, I just go for scenery, fun with friends, and the awesome little mid-mountain bar. They have good food, great live music and some pretty impressive hot drinks. It’s family oriented so adults and kids can enjoy it. For really good skiers who just love to zip down the mountain all day, Taos is probably more appropriate, but for me and my friends and family, this is a great place! Plus the town of Santa is large with a ton of things to do. That’s not the case at Taos, Red River, or Angelfire.

Power Day at Santa Fe, Stay Away!

By Krychek |

I spent 2 hours in a traffic jam up the mountain for my first visit to Ski Santa Fe; the traffic jam was the result of insufficient parking there. The experience got even worse once I hit the lift line. After paying for a half-day lift ticket at 12:15, I managed to complete only 4 runs by 3:30 PM. Lift lines were unreasonably long, with only a quad chair and two double chairs serving the lower mountain. The mountain had received 10" of powder the prior day, and it was clear from my experience that Santa Fe does not have adequate parking, lift capacity, and operational leadership to manage a ski resort. There was no management of the lifts, and about 25% of chairs were going up empty despite very long lift lines. Perhaps this mountain would be reasonable on a day without powder (but if so, why are you running a ski resort??), but I would stay away until they resolve parking and lift issues. I do not have an Epic or Ikon pass but was simply a skier in town who wanted to try Ski Santa Fe.

Great place to ski.

By JRsNeighbor |

Went to Sante Fe to ski over spring break in March. We decided to stay here and not drive a few more hours to Colorado. This was a nice place to ski and it didn't break the bank. Ski school is available and they were good. However, if you have a child with any special needs please inquire about your instructor PRIOR to arrival. This is a nice alternative to Colorado and quicker to get to from Dallas.

First time 🎿

By jgurl115634 |

I went to sante fe ski after reviewing some information online. This was my first time skiing and I'm glad I booked Sante Fe Ski. Everyone was extremely nice and informative. Everyone we encountered was great. Thank you to the gentlemen in the parking lot who helped us get unstuck. The beginners package was a great deal and Brad our instructor was the most patient and encouraging instructor we could ask for. Thanks Brad! I'll definitely be back for my next ski trip.

Favorite Hill

By Bill |

I really love skiing here! It is close to home with lots of snow and a variety of runs. Staff is very friendly - though often disorganized. (Some organization and attention to detail would be a nice improvement this coming season. The snow plow also needs to get an earlier start so it doesn't take two hours to get up the mountain after a snow!) The food is surprisingly good and reasonably priced, given it has to be hauled up the mountain daily. While the skiing end of the business is run a bit haphazardly, the food service is run well. Despite the resort's laid back approach to service, I love coming here!

Good for skiers, not for waiters

By Soyaliaga |

Good experience for skiers, not for waiters, there´s not much to do except for skiing. Missing activities or cozy restaurants to wait

Get what you pay for

By EAtexas |

The vibe at this ski area is disorganization. From the rental process (we went up a day early at 2 pm as instructed and it still was sub par), to the ski school (horrible organization of which groups go to which instructors), the lack of ski patrol monitoring out of control people (yes my Son got taken out from behind by someone out of control. Thank God for his helmet), to the filing into the lift (it's a free for all most of the time even at the base going on a quad). You get what you pay for. I'll save you the details on each point. We will take our money and precious vacation time elsewhere.

Perfect powder day!

By bdurance |

Fresh snow, first lift up (almost), I got lucky. I skied from one side of the mountain to he other and hit every blue run and a couple blacks multiple times. I only had on day in town so I just stuck with the fun runs, repeatedly. It was a blast. The quad lift is super slow but others are zippy.

Really Nice Mid-Size Ski Area For All Ability Ranges

By agnitfom2000 |

This ski area is a great mid-size ski area for all ability ranges. It goes from easy green runs to alarming double black diamonds. Someone with low intermediate skills can experience the entire area, even though they will need to avoid some trails.

The ski area is at a relatively high altitude. Base is at around 10,400 ft and the summit is over 12,000 ft. Views are absolutely spectacular; that is one of the reasons I keep going back. You can see all of Santa Fe and beyond to Mount Taylor which is around 100 miles away. Gayway (Blue) and Parachute (Black Diamond) have the best views. The top of the green lift from the base of the lodge also has a viewing area which points out what you are seeing.

Snow conditions here are generally good. If they don't have snow, they make it. I've rarely encountered ice in the years I've been coming. 2015-2016 was an incredibly great year for snow for them. They were 100% open at Thanksgiving, which had never happened before as far as I know, and they were still 100% open when I went. Having this repeat two years in a row would be incredibly good fortune.

I have not taken any lessons here, but they do have a large learners area and many instructors. Based on limited observation I suspect they are quite good. They also have an adaptive skiing program for handicapped skiers that has a good reputation, though I have no direct experience. If I ever were in such a situation, I would probably come here.

Food is good here, but not fancy. Typical fare is hamburgers, hot dogs, burritos, and other similar items. They feature green chiles more than most ski areas. They have a nice grill at mid-station.

They have ski rentals here, too. Lines can be long, and I'm not sure about the price. Consider alternative ski rentals if you intend to go to multiple ski areas.

The ski area is easily accessible from Santa Fe. It takes about 40 minutes to get to the area. No hotels exist at the ski area. You should stay near the Santa Fe Plaza - the access road is about 1 to 2 miles away from the plaza, and the entire trip is around 16 miles.

One nice thing about the area is that it hasn't been "gentrified". They have not tried to turn themselves into an imitation of Vail with the outlandish prices to match. Hopefully they won't do that in my lifetime.

great ski resort.

they have bunny slopes for beginners, and they have ski school. and they have a bar higher up in the slopes, they said its walkable but with the snow shoes... its almost impossible. staff is very friendly.

Love Ski Santa Fe!!!!

By Josh J |

We really enjoyed Ski Santa Fe!!! It was perfect for young kids. Really close to our hotel, would highly recommend skiing this mountain. Definitely show up early!!! We showed up early like at 7:30, and we were still like 40th in line. By the time we got our rentals, the line was all the way to the parking lot.

No, it's not Vail

By Sheena N |

A few months ago, I was reading reviews of Ski Santa Fe, and someone was knocking this little mountain because it didn't have the fancy lodge and mountain bars that big resorts like Vail have. Well, duh! That's not what Ski Santa Fe is about. It's a locals' mountain that is fabulous when the snow is good in a town with a whole lot more to see, too. The instructors are nice, the green chile cheeseburgers are decent, and the midway bar, Totemoff's, serves delicious beer. Is it a little rugged and worn? Yes, but you can stash your stuff in the warm dining area without worrying about someone stealing it (don't leave cash or electronics, obviously) and ski all day at HALF the price of those Colorado resorts, with HALF as many people.

Great little mountain

By Lisa M |

This is a great little ski mountain. Nice wide open slopes and plenty to choose from as long as they have a good snow base.

The people are friendly and the prices and moderate. The food and drink at the mid mountain restaurant is fairly good as well.

I was not a big fan of the drive up the mountain to get to the facility. It is a small two lane road with about a thousand turns between the bottom and the top. Even though it is only 15 miles it takes @ 45 minutes depending on the rate of speed the traffic in front of you is going. It made be nauseous due to all the turns. If you have ever been to Hawaii it is similar to the ROAD TO HANNA. Or at least it felt that way to me.

Small but great ski option

By manuelavina |

We went there for spring break and didn't know what to expect, we found a lot of snow, very friendly green trails perfect for beginners, and also the blue trails are very friendly, did not felt too crowded even though it was spring break, short drive from texas and every kid that works there is very friendly!! Great ski option!

Great Spring Break Trip!

By BlondeSquadMom |

We went to Santa Fe with a group of 6 adults and 8 teenagers. After enjoying a day and a half of what the town had to offer, we headed up the mountain for two fun-filled days of skiing. Rentals and lift tickets were inexpensive and the employees were friendly. The ski area was the perfect size...lift lines were not too long and many of the runs came down to a central area, so it was easy for members of our group to find each other to go with different people.

15" of freshies 12/15/15

All but 3 trails open, amazing tree and steeps skiing. Bumps and downhill are perfect if your not up for the double black super steep stuff. We ski here at least once a week. A treasure in the Sangre de Cristo's. Only an hour and 15 min from Rio Rancho.
Newly renovated and enlarged base lodge, they have lots of food choices all fresh, delishciousness, at good prices.
Do go and check it out!!!

Great skiing......

By santafeyo |

no crowds, reasonable prices and excellent multi-day program for locals.
During the week, you will not encounter lift lines, nor crowded runs.

Love skiing here

By Kyla M |

I adore skiing Santa Fe. I tend to stick to blues and easier blacks but Santa Fe has something for everyone. Lots of long runs and decently fast lifts keep you busy all day. The little restaurant is nice too, I'd recommend the hot buttered rum. Definitely get there early in the day or early in the season though because the road up the mountain tends to get backed up.

One of my favorite locals ski areas out there

By Unpossible |

Granted it's an hour from my house in Albuquerque, which doesn't hurt. However, this is one of the few decent sized ski areas with decent vertical that is not insanely corporate. Lift tickets are reasonable and there is a morning halfday ticket. One of the greatest things a ski area can offer in my opinion. The base facilities are comfortable, but not luxurious (a huge plus in my opinion). Totemof's bar is one of the few great remaining ski area bars left in the country. Local New Mexican beers and a tamale for like $8. You can barely buy a soda for that at Vail. There are some nice steep, groomed cruisers that are fast. There are trees and bumps. You might not want to spend a week skiing here, but spending a day will not leave you disappointed and may even remind you of when skiing was just silly, affordable winter fun and not a 4-to-5-figure expenditure for the family.

Beautiful Fall Foliage

By HummingbirdLover |

We went just to see the aspen trees changing and it was just beautiful. It was crowded so did not ride on the ski lift but still was a very nice visit. They had a band playing outside and it was fun for a fall festival, we went on October 1.

awesome mountain an views

By Alberto P |

My girlfriend and I travel to Santa Fe for ski trip over new year eve, and we definitely love it, we have a really good time, the quality in the snow was great beside the trails are really good mark, I definitely recommend this place to spend more than a weekend because we will need to need to travel about 15 min from the town to the mountain and the parking lot area are not that close

Fall colors and great hike

By NKWPT |

Quick drive from Santa Fe . Take the ski lift to the top and walk down . It's an easy walk.. 45 minutes. Absolutely beautiful Fall colors!

Our new favorite

By Choie82 |

This is my husbands and I first time to ski here. We went on a Sunday, didn’t arrive to the top until about 915 and were spilling over into the third parking lot already. The tram was great, easy and effective. I’ve seen other reviews about traffic and parking but people should realize there is also parking along the mountain so no need to pull all the way into a parking lot if your group has the capacity to walk a little bit. No line to check in and rent ski equipment. Please note you have to use a token every time you want to open your locker so pack a lunch, pack backpack for your yeti water bottle so you don’t have to access your locker so much. I saw lots of people putting their backpacks and lunchboxes along a window in the main cafeteria at the bottom of the mountain. Many runs for all levels of skiers. The mid mountain bar and grill was super fun with a DJ. No problem to sit anywhere because people are ready to scarf some thing down and get back out on the mountain! I’ve heard lots of things about the blue bus, if you ride it up it is hard to find a ride back down because there are more people that want to go down than ride it up. Good luck! We will return and bring our 7-10 y/o kids next time!

Don’t do private lessons

By Jaw4316 |

Don't pay for private lessons. I paid $345 for a 2 hour private lesson for my daughter and 1 hour private for my two sons. My sons said it was worthless. They said the instructor taught them nothing and kept trying to be funny saying the word pizza over and over. They said it was a complete waste of time and money. My daughter got maybe an hour and 15 minute lesson out of her 2 hours we paid for. Neither lesson started on time.

Terrible ski school

By Matt C |

Do not put your kids in the chipmunk ski school. Teachers are incredibly rude to the children. Left my child laying in the snow for minutes on end after a fall, completely ignore them, etc. it would be hard to find a worse experience for your child.

Least Friendly

By GhostRyder5 |

I’ve been to Santa Fe Ski area many times I haven’t been in several years, each time I say I’ll never go again, but it is the fastest easiest drive for me to get to a place (Santa Fe) to snowboard and they still had decent snow and then there is Maria’s which has never disappointed. It wasn’t 10 min on the mountain. Our young 20s female guest went to buy her lift ticket (first time snowboarder/first time Santa Fe) and wasn’t clear on the question she was asked reference her lift ticket purchase. The older female employee said “that’s why we have signs, if you read the signs you’ll know”. Ok so no one else is in line, not busy, no rush, it’s just a yes or no answer, but the employee wants to rant her frustration. Ok, I know if you read and study every sign, research and prepare you will know everything there is to know about the Santa Fe Ski area’s rules regulations, policies and procedures, but there are signs everywhere and,, That’s your ^@^%$# job lady.. The most unfriendly bar staff on the mountain I have ever experienced in many years of skiing and snowboarding. Just sayin. Oh, the lift line guys were great not to be included in the overall evaluation of Ski Santa Fe, which I have never found to be an overall Ski Friendly place, and that’s my 2 cents

Great view at the top

By Dennis B |

Somebody in Santa Fe recommended we travel up here on a Saturday. It took us about 40 minutes drive up here. There are some beautiful pull over views on the way. The fall colors are terrific. Once at ten ski area, we purchased tickets for the chairlift to the top. It is a nice ride. The views from the top are really terrific. I suggest bringing a warm jacket and gloves; it’s much colder at the top. There was a band playing live outdoors.
On the way back, we stopped to hike one trail which was about an hour hike. A very beautiful trail.

Aspens Are Beautiful

By maggiet0813 |

Went Oct 4. The chairlifts were closed but we drove the winding road uphill. The views of the golden Aspens were beautiful and the view of the mountains were great. It was about 10 degrees cooler at the top and very windy.

Gorgeous ski area!

By catann50560 |

This ski area has beautiful surroundings with fabulous long range views. It offers all levels of skiing! I am not really a "skier" per say, however, I have taken many guests here! The smell of the grilling of burgers in the air is sooooo... enticing! Fair;y busy, also offers lwssons & ski rental. The long range views are sectacular! Many visitors from out of state as well as locals with ski passes!

Poorly run ski area, outdated facilities

By T H |

The ski area's web site does warn people about long wait times for rentals and to get there early (we skied on Dec 29th, 2016) but the wait is ridiculously long (2hrs start to finish) Many people that have skied other resorts all over the world were complaining,
many of them europeans. We have skied Vail, Winter Park, Durango over the holidays and never experienced such disorganization and long wait times compared to Santa Fe. Staff should have people in line start filling out forms before they get to the cashiers to expedite the process. Easy fix.
The mid level restaurant has one line for beer(took 20min) with no outdoor heat lamps (2 were out of commission) extra staff was just picking up trash left everywhere, run down metal picnic type tables out in the snow with no place to sit. Management needs to pay attention to some of these details. Not sure management is even aware or even cares.

Spring Break

By wearethemillers |

Snow was good, upper runs weren’t too crowded and they do a great job of managing traffic, parking and loading/unloading.

I guess the only thing that could have made this trip better would have been at least some outdoor heating (patio heaters or something similar) on the upper patio. Maybe it was an unusually snowy week for spring breakers, but there was definitely not enough room inside for all of the skiers so we had to eat lunch outside. Of course we were dressed for cold weather but would have been nice to be able to at least stand under or beside some source of heat. Of course, we all managed the conditions, so nothing major enough to decrease the rating.

Family oriented and a great place to learn how to ski..

By Cam012 |

This is was the fourth time we have been to Ski Santa Fe.
We drove from Houston, it was a long trip but we are used to it by now.
Rented a house right at the base of the mountain, still took 30 min to get to the slopes. There are no rentals or hotels on the mountain.
Lift tickets for all day was 65, and half day was 45.
My son took a few lessons on how to snowboard..😀he said skiing is much easier.
Affordable and lots of family, I felt very at ease here.
We ate at Maria's Mexican restaurant..
The wait was over an hour but it was worth it.
They have over 100 types of tequilas!
Will be back next year.

Nice Powder and Good Runs

By WorldSprinter18 |

Have skied Santa Fe mountain many times with no complaints. The powder is good and the runs are varied and worthy of a full day of skiing from intermediate to advanced. It's not my favorite ski resort (prefer Wolf Creek ~ Colorado) but it's convenient when in Santa Fe or ABQ. They offer senior citizen discounts.

Best ski season in iver a decade.

By Kate C |

An easy 17 mile trip up the mountains to beautiful Ski Santa Fe with runs for all levels of abilities and snowboarding.
Tons of fun witmhout long hours of drive time to begin your downhill adventures.

Snowboard fun

In Santa fe for some snowboarding. Snow today was awesome, as were all the workers and fellow boarders and skiers.

Back again tomorrow.

Skiing Santa Fe

By LHPritchard |

Awesome snow on Easter day and had the slopes to ourselves.
Staff on the slopes were very friendly a great laid back place. It would be a great place for kids and grandparents to go.I was impressed and we have skied all over.Only 16 miles from Santa Fe and a easy drive

Fabulous February Skiing

By BestTravelsNow |

Very impressed with check-in, rental, and the lifts. All staff were very helpful. Snow was amazing. Looking forward to many returns.

Nice ski slopes but overall disorganized

By Lucybelle1 |

We drove from Santa Fe, we were lucky it has snowed earlier in the week and the lower but not upper part of the mountain was open.
My kids went to the school and they had fun, their instructors were nice but the check in process was atrocious. Unlike other places that everything can be done online, most things were required to do in paper (not easy to do while waiting outside while it was 15 degrees). The worst is that we had to repeat the process the following day… 🤦🏽
The rentals were fine, still a long line but we took them back to the hotel to avoid the line the following day.
The ski lifts were sometimes busy, maybe a little slow. I got the impression that signals were lacking, many first time skiers didn’t know where to go….
The slopes were pretty clean and the overall atmosphere was nice.
Probably will not go back…

Good for intermediate skiers from TX

By JayneLandua |

My 17 year old son and I spent three days at Ski Santa Fe and we will be back.

Pros:
1) A reasonable ski area to get to from TX where we live
2) Good variety of slopes, especially for intermediate skiers
3) Snowboard instructors were great. My son took a "never ever" lesson in the AM and his instructor agreed to move him to a "day two" lesson for the afternoon. He is athletic and tends to pick up sports quickly, but the instructors were great and he was responsibly snow boarding easy blue runs by late afternoon. (More on the ski school organization below)
4) Reasonable prices for food (I'm using Breckinridge prices as a comparison).
5) We had a great time skiing here and actually extended our stay by a day

Cons
1) The staff isn't overly friendly (seems like a no-brainer necessity in a tourism industry)
2) After skiing for a couple of days with me, my son decided to give snowboarding a try. He was at the designated gathering area 15 minutes prior to lesson time, as instructed when we bought the package. Fifteen minutes AFTER the lesson was supposed to start he was still in the unorganized cluster of people taking lessons. I was told they were getting a late start because someone's friend didn't show up for the lesson and they were waiting on her. What?! I'm fine with waiting a few minutes, but after those few minutes pass, start the class and offer the latecomer a spot in the next lesson! Nothing the penalizing those who were on time. They also ended the lesson early,so in total he lost 25 minutes in his morning lesson. I respectfully talked to the ski school manager, expressing my concern that the lessons aren't cheap and people should get what they pay for. He verbally went through the motions of agreeing and saying that he would pass along my concern, but his nonchalant attitude told me he really didn't care.
3) The lodge near lift three needs updating.
4) The lift lines are a bit of a free for all, esp at the base of the mountain.

Lift suggestion- take the 2 person lift half way up the mountain, then switch to lift 3 or 7 and use those. We found those lifts to be more organized and shorter, at least when we were there Mon-Wed of Spring Break.

Overall we will go back. It's not as nice as Breckinridge or Tahoe where we've also skied, but this is also easier on the checkbook and is still a good ski getaway especially for those of us from Texas.

A great place to go take the grandchildren to learn to ski

By darrellstravel |

Ski Santa Fe it's a great place the train is excellent the snow is deep frequent snow showers up there on the mountain some of the best snow in New Mexico be long runs are very good some of the black trails are very well maintained and lots of bumps Lodge has a very good cafe in it and there's also a mid-level restaurant then coffee shop that also has beer available if you're into drinking beer while you Ski which I'm not

Pretty Good

By Tiffany R |

Just spent one full day there and it is a fun experience. they have nice little fun trails on the sides of the main runs. Thanks for the experience Ski Santa Fe!

Nice local resort

By Chuck S |

Parking can be problematic on busy days...I crawled the last 2 miles and parked on the side of the road 0.3 miles away. Snowing pretty hard today. I’ve been here when it is blowing hard, too. Someday I will have a bluebird day. High enough to be light powder. Lots of terrain from expert to beginner. I enjoyed intermediate terrain off every major lift as skiing in loose stuff is hard for me. A bit breathless, both from altitude and my poor condition. Lifts are pretty long, a bit older and slower than at higher end resorts.

There is a decent base lodge and a mid-mountain lunchstop with outside tables that is fun. Burgers and beer.

This is not Aspen, but it is great fun, and without traffic, an easy 25 minutes fro downtown Santa Fe. Tends to be a local (and Albuquerque) crowd because Taos is the local high end magnet.

Great Winter Skiing For All Levels

By 777_Night_Owl |

Took a quick weekend trip since snow reports showed excellent snowfall and base. The 12-hr drive was well worth it. Ski Santa Fe did not disappoint. Even though it was the holiday weekend (President's Day), we didn't have to wait long in the lift lines; the longest wait was probably only 3 - 5 minutes at the most popular / most used lift (Lift 1). The lift operators were vigilant and kept everything organized. Lift 1 is a unique conveyer belt lift. Makes loading on the chair much easier. The runs were well groomed and kept. Our ski party ran down greens to single black diamonds; but no one braved the mogul runs or through the trees (but definitely saw challenging runs for those advanced skiers). Everyone had fun! As for dining, we enjoyed lunch mid-mountain where they had a grill, chili, and a bar. They even had a water container jug at the dining area to keep you hydrated. For long ski runs, ski anything off of the Millennium Triple Chair. Highly recommended.

Great place to learn and to ski

By Britton G |

I love this place. I, as an adult, learned to ski here, as well as my 3 year old. It's the perfect size to learn with wonderful runs, and I felt very safe here, both as a beginner, as well as safe with the quality of people who come here.

They have a large parking lot, a shuttle available, and a drop off spot near the front.
The teachers are very friendly, and I learned to ski immediately.

Beautiful!

By Chelsea B |

Staff is very nice and helpful and the mountain is beautiful. Love the bar mid-way down the mountain with warm coffee/liqueur drinks to warm up. Do not recommend going the week after Christmas...it was way too busy/packed!

Best year skiing at Santa Fe!

By SOFL4FUN |

Very pleased with the snow conditions this year, this laid back mountain offers various terrain, amazing views and great staff without the hype or excessive cost or hype of CO resorts.

where I learn to Snow Board

By Que B |

Cool mountain to learn on! I have actually never been to the top so I am not sure what its like from nothing higher then the middle mountain bar. The bar is pretty cool worth going to if you want to enjoy a cold one on the mountain. I suggest having cash it makes it a lot easier. I do know they have really good burgers in the cafe so if you like burgers try them out.

Great place to ski!!

By Ativ01 |

This is a great place to ski, period! I have been skiing here on a regular basis since 1996. Since its high elevation skiing the snow is excellent, especially in the trees. They also have some excellent tree runs. Get up early in the morning as the parking lot gets full. The top 2 lifts are the best to ski. Remember you are skiing at high altitude so if you are coming from low elevation you need to acclimate.

Ski after work

My home town ski hill.
I have a season pass and get it really early. Unfortunately I did not ski much this season. Thank you for staying open one more weekend ! The snow was epic!

Genuine ski trip

Amazing staff! Both Williams and manager-Jeremy provided us excellent service! Family and I felt so welcomed. The ski lift staff continued the warmth with their sincerity. This is our go to place!

Only one issue, otherwise very nice

By One_with_the_Road |

Ski Santa Fe is a beautiful area with some very fun skiing.

My only issue is that my wife only skis the green runs. Most mountains have a green path down the lifts, with only one or two very advanced lifts with no green path down. Ski Santa Fe only has 2 lifts that to the top of the mountain, neither of which have a green path down.

That meant my wife could not see the most beautiful part of the mountain, and was stuck going up the same lift over and over on the right side of the ski area.

If your entire party are Blue+ skiiers, this won't be a problem and you'll have a great time.

Mountain Beauty

By Amy R |

As a non-skiing family, we wanted to experience the beauty of mountain snow. We took advantage of the public transportation bus and barely made it to the top due to the weather. We felt safe in the bus, but saw many cars stranded coming and going. The ski lodge was bustling with activity and the scenery was breathtaking. Skiers all seemed happy and eager to hit the slopes. It was a nice couple of hours with beautiful memories.

Exceeded expectations!

By JHUTZ |

No lines. Did I say no lines!!! Yes! Beautiful vistas. Great family prices. Nice people working here. Will return!

Good ski area for family & children, not for experts; rude staff

By ali s |

I am not sure where to start about this place. This is not a ski resort or ski destination but a ski area mostly for locals & people who come from neighboring states, especially Texas, like me. There are no lodging facilities @ the base. You must stay in Santa Fe & either drive to the ski area or take a blue shuttle (it charges you $5 per person each way). We came here in early March (3/5/17 thru 3/7/17). This place has 7 lifts & the peak is @ 12,073 feet. It is an average size ski place. The snow was good for us & the lifts were not crowded at all.
This ski area is good for family, children, & intermediate skiers. The children's ski school (chipmunk) was excellent. My 7 years old son & 5 years old daughter learn a lot in 3 days of school. My wife trained in a private session with a lady named Courtney. She is awesome.
The drive from Santa Fe to the ski area takes about 25 minutes & is very scenic.
Here are some of the problems with the place:
- The food in the cafeteria is just that: cafeteria quality food. You have no options as there is only one place to eat.
- The younger staff don't know the words "please", "thank you". & "may I help you". Not once in 3 days that we were there any of the younger employees use the above words. That is obviously a problem with the management as they tolerate that with their employees. One employee in the rental section burped loud without apologizing. If I pay $800 a day to ski there with my family, I expect better than that.
- The Wi-Fi & cellular don't work there. Their own Wi-Fi is at best spotty.
- I needed to find my wife in the building & because cell phones don't work, I needed her paged. So, I asked one of the employees in the cafeteria (who was not doing anything at the time) to direct me to do that. She said it is not her job very rudely. Then, I asked a supervisor for the same. She asked me to go to the ski station (which is in a different building) for paging. I asked her how she expects me to walk from the top floor of the main building (where the cafeteria is) down & out the another building with my ski boots when she can simply call them & ask my wife to be paged. She said it is not her job to do that.
- I had a suggestion about improving their cafeteria & brought it up to a supervisor. She told me I should write to the owner as he does things around here his way & she cannot change anything. That may be true but it's not my job to talk to the owner. I finally talk to operations manager about how unprofessional his staff are & he apologized but not sure how sincere he was.
I WILL NOT GO BACK. Read other bad reviews. They all have some good points for you to consider before planning to go to SKI SANTA FE.
Leave this place to the locals & choose another destination for your next ski vacation.

Fun Little Mountain

By MTD44 |

This is a fun little mountain. Parking and ski rental was very easy. There are 8 (I think) chair lifts but they all seem to take you to the same runs at the top of the mountain. If you decide to eat while skiing, hit the lodge in the middle of the mountain not the one at the base. It serves fun food and beer. Many of the green runs near the base are pretty crowded, but there are blues and some greens at the top of the mountain that are much more clear.

Great Ski resort to bring the kids to learn to ski

By Sgarzacorona |

This place is a great spot to bring the kids to learn to ski. Instructors are kind, knowledgable and friendly. Most important the cost of lifts / rentals / classes is much lower than Vail Resorts around the USA. Also, there is only one base so when the kids learn and go by themselves, you can be confident that they will not end up in another peak.

Great Place

By SABoy |

This is a great place to Ski. It is affordable and offers many runs to enjoy. I will do this place again and again.

Good Times

By Ivette N |

Our group was 5, I was the picture taker and my friends learned to Snow Board and Ski. It is not to say I did not enjoy myself. I snow shoe up and around the slopes. Our day was fun, they had their classes for both skiing and snowboarding and the instructors were great very patient with all of the ladies and by the end of the day all of them were on the chair lefts coming down the mountain as if they were on boards or skies for years. A great place to learn and have fun. Ski Santa Fe, is only 15 miles from the city of Santa Fe, NM and takes about 40 minutes to get to the slopes. The roads are very windy and only 2 lanes and if snows it can be very slick, so caution is advised. As for spending a day at Ski Santa Fe do it. One other thing they take mask wearing very seriously, so please wear yours. They do have a cafe one can rest and eat at. And as for parking come early the spots fill up fast. Enjoy, your ski day.

Surprisingly good

By montanapescado |

Santa Fe doesn't have the rep of more famous ski areas, but the product is mostly excellent. The mountain can comfortably welcome beginners but what is largely unknown is that it has some serious gnar for the more extreme skiers, including steep slopes with tight trees and plenty of boulders to huck off of. The southerly location and less than ideal exposure can make for a short season though, and can lead to less than ideal surface conditions at times. The price is excellent relative to the modern ski industry.

The best last minute Christmas Vacay!

By Sheree K |

We book ski school private lessons for a family of 5 with Michael Poland! The best instructor with amazing humor! I was paying attention to the other instructors and they were super boring to listen to! He made skiing fun and memorable, took amazing photos of us and encouraged us to keep trying! We drove up the mountain and had the most beautiful scenic sight! Skiing Christmas Eve was by far the best Christmas!

Great for intermediate to expert

By AggieJoe79 |

Had not been skiing here for over 20 years, the addition of the quad chairs really makes a difference. Visited on a weekday, no crowd at all, plus 6 inches of fresh powder. The staff were very friendly and helpful with rental gear. Lots of good blacks, fair amount of good blues, not as strong on greens.

Great family ski fun!

By Heather L |

Plenty of well groomed beginner and intermediate slopes for families. Staff was friendly and efficient, from the young boy who sold our ski passes, the older gentleman working the quad lift, and the lady working lost and found. Although we went during the busy Christmas break, we had a very nice time and never had to wait too long in lift lines the three days. There could have been more organization to lift 2 merging lines, but we had fun and would recommend.

Good Ski Trip!

By Amanda |

Good customer service, great skiing, appreciate the layout of the trails and lifts. Had an area for kids to learn beginner ski skills or just play, I went one week with kids and one without. The little lodge halfway down was always a fun stop. I liked having some healthy options available. All in all, favorite place to ski in New Mexico!

Beautiful

By glmorgan |

Take the drive in the fall to see all the beautiful trees. It’s a great place to view the fall foliage, hike and enjoy nature.

Yes, there really is good skiing in Santa Fe!

By John B |

Most people think that New Mexico is mostly desert, and have no idea that Santa Fe is actually the southern end of the Rocky Mountains. The city is about 7,000 feet above sea level, and the ski area is a little over 15 miles from the center of town up a fairly twisty 2-lane road. The base of the ski area sits at 10,350 feet and the top is over 12,000 feet. Visitors MUST focus on drinking enough water to avoid dehydration. But, the skiing and the views are incredible. I am lucky enough to live in Santa Fe, retired (although I still work as a volunteer firefighter), and able to pick the days I go skiing. This week I went up on a weekday after 5" of new snow to enjoy terrific conditions and virtually no lift lines. This mountain truly has something for any level of skier; there are 3 lifts to the top (where I spend most of my time), and even those have a good selection of Green, Blue, and Black runs. There are no accommodations or fancy restaurants, but Totemoff's in the middle of the mountain offers a basic food and beverage selection (with beer likely the most popular choice) with both inside and outside seating (which is usually preferable) to accompany the typically beautiful weather. Be sure to spend some time in Santa Fe to sample the unique and delicious southwestern food, visit some galleries and museums, talk to some of the very friendly locals, and have a great time skiing! Check out the website for pictures and more info.

Scenic Views - Even Without Snow

By Anne O |

If you have the time during a visit to Santa Fe, a drive to ski Santa Fe would be a pleasant experience, even in the summer. The winding road up the mountain is heavily wooded and features campsites. There is a scenic overlook at the top from which you can view the mountains in the distance. Our ski vacations normally take us to Colorado and Utah, but this might be a future destination.

Thoroughly Impressed!

By Jesse H |

I grew up skiing in Colorado and Utah so I'm somewhat of a "ski snob." My daughters have only been skiing twice and that was 5 years ago. Anyway, we decided to take a last minute Spring Break trip and drive up from Texas to Santa Fe. We chose Santa Fe because of the short drive versus Colorado and because we wanted to stay with our friends at Glorieta Camps outside of Santa Fe (I HIGHLY recommend Glorieta, btw). I honestly wasn't expecting much from Ski Santa Fe versus Park City, Breckenridge, Crested Butte, and other places I've been. Needless to say, I was surprised! We drove up the day before and rented our equipment, which saved time the next morning. Our first day, we were on the slopes by 8:30am. The drive up isn't so bad and the parking is easy.
ALL THE STAFF WE ENCOUNTERED WERE AWESOME. From the guys in the parking lot, to the rental folks, to the lift operators - just all friendly as can be and eager to help out. Lots of Ski Patrol were on the mountain making sure folks weren't skiing or boarding too fast.
All the lifts were running smoothly and lift lines were 5 minutes at most (usually no line at all). No, it's not a huge mountain, but we skied 4 days in a row and never got board. The upper mountain has a great selection of blues with lots of trails through the trees that my kids loved.
Again, Ski Santa Fe exceeded my expectations. We will definitely be back!

Friendly Santa Fe skiing

By Brooks |

Ski 25 mins from Downtown Santa Fe. Very well groomed, interesting runs, short lines, and nice powder make for a very enjoyable afternoon skiing. All levels of runs, no back country

Great time, watch for when they've had snow & lower temps.

By MaryAnn H |

We had good snow, I watched the ski reports and saw they had new snow the week before. The temps were predicted to get up into the 50s later, so we went before that happened. At that point it starts melting, re freezing at night and the conditions get icy. We experienced this on several trips at Spring Break.

Great Tree and Rock Skiing

By kmaconsulting |

When the snow is good, as it was this year, the tree and rock skiing are great. To navigate the trees, you better good. Great place.

Great Spring Skiing

By BillWaconia |

Did a half day afternoon of some great Spring skiing. Easy in and out, great rental folks, well-maintained runs.

Play in the snow at Bug Tesuque

By CakeCo |

We went here for spring break March 13-20 week but due to Coronavirus they closed Ski SF. If you were hoping for snow you can still head up the mountain and pull off on the right at Big Tesuque in Hyde Park. It was beautiful and had feet of snow for sledding and play. We stopped at the ski shop before heading up and bought sleds for $15. The ski shop, Cotman’s (?), was closed yesterday too though, so call ahead if you need gear.

Best most reasonable cost in US boarding

Good Family or Solo Experience

By GRO3 |

My family and I have been traveling to Ski Santa Fe since for 25 years. They offer a ski school (Chipmunk school) for children to learn to ski or snowboard. They have a large dining area at the base of the mountain in the same building as equipment rental. Their rentals include ski, snowboard, appropriate boots depending on your activity rental, poles and helmets. One reason I love this resort is the fact that they also have a large number of instructors for alternately abled skiers (visually impaired etc.). The inclusive nature of their offerings is one reason we keep coming back, not because we have needed that service but because it speaks to the business's heart of choosing to service as many people as possible.

There are several lifts from conveyor belts on bunny hills to lifts that take you to black diamond difficulty hills. If you are looking for a place to ski outside of Taos and other usual places this is definitely where you want to be.

Great Day Skiing just outside of Santa Fe

By pott1432 |

Ski Santa Fe is not a resort but it provided us great day skiing. There were runs for the every ski level. We rented our equipment outside the area so we did not have to wait in line to rent at Ski Santa Fe. It was a great move, the only lines at the place were in the rental area!! It was a 20 minute drive from Santa Fe Historical Area where we stayed. The runs are well maintained. No waiting for lift chairs and we were there the week before Christmas. Big cafeteria area with plenty of choices for food. If you want to ski for a day but don't want the lines and prices of Taos Skiing, Ski Santa Fe is a must do!!

Great snow, got very crowded by afternoon

I followed advice on the Ski Santa Fe website and got there early (9:30). Parking was relatively easy at that time. Two out of three ski lifts were working. The equipment rental line was out of control. It took1 hour to get get our equipment! After that, things were quite enjoyable. Left around 3:30 by which time the plan was getting really crowded. I mean no space to walk around at the bottom of the hill. And I could see the cars parked all the way 1 mile down hill.

Parking area full!

We knew it would be busy so we headed up the mountain at 8am. Traffic started at 845 and soon came to near halt 2 miles before the ski parking area. No cell service and stuck in a two lane road with 4 kids that had to use the restroom. We finally gave up at 10:30 when we had enough cell service to see the ski area parking was completely full and not letting anyone in until someone left. Very poor organization and we had prepaid for all our arrangements. Was easy enough to get refunds but it was 1130 before we were finally back in town after figuring out a way to turn around on that two lane road with a small trailer.

There could easily be better ways to manage this but they seem content to ruin hundreds of peoples day sitting in a line that will Never go anywhere for hours!

First very good skiing, North of Texas.

Found this spot to have well groomed trails and fairly deep powder; however, that varies with time of year.

A hidden gem

I had never heard of Ski Santa Fe until we booked a stay in downtown Santa Fe for Christmas 2016. It's not a ski *resort* so much as a ski *area* - there is no accommodation on the mountain, so anyone wanting to ski there has to trek up the mountain and back each day. The up side of that is the lack of crowds - on Christmas Eve the runs were clear and fast, and lift queues were almost nonexistent.

As the roads were pretty clear, I decided to drive myself up the mountain, but the city bus service runs a bus up and back several times a day for those that don't want the stress of driving in iffy conditions. And if you do take the bus, your $5 fare includes a $5 voucher that you can put towards the cost of your lift ticket, so the ride up is effectively free!

Excellent ski resort

Surprised about this ski area. It as big as Colorado but runs were enjoyable. A fellow skier said how she enjoyed skiing in the trees. She said that there is a lot of tree trails that she enjoyed. We will return

Very fun and great instructors

Our group lesson turn into a private lesson when nobody signed up (yay!) and our instructor was very attentive and understanding of our limitations. He still pushed us a little farther but respected our limits. The slopes are very fun - especially at an off season because there's almost nobody on the mountain!

Very Cold Fun

Lots of fun and options for different levels of skiers. I probably would have preferred a few more easy greens but that's because I'm a chicken. I'll definitely come back.

Breath taking views

Beautiful drive up the winding mountain road to the ski area. Overlook views to stop along the way. Optional trails at the bottom.

Tucked away but worth the drive

Needing a day away from it all, I came here for a quick ski trip. The road to the mountain is windy through the national forest, but once you get there you are in for a treat. Different days have discounts, so look ahead and plan accordingly. The staff was friendly and the mountain was amazing, most trails had been maintained in the morning for the best experience available. Worth the drive for anyone wanting a ski day close to town.
Although...if it starts snowing, the county WILL NOT plow the road into Santa Fe, so plan accordingly if you don't have 4-wheel drive

Fun Ski Area

This ski area was overall good and enjoyable. If you go during peak time like we did, bring your gear! Waited in line for equipment at Ski SF over an hour. There was 4 cashier/registration workers and for peak season, didn’t make a lot of sense. The particular equipment rental cashier we had was rude and didn’t seem as though she was thrilled about being there at all. Every other employee from rentals were very quick and nice. Staff working the lifts were very organized and efficient. One particular lift worker was very sweet, the others were just there. For s small ski area with a lot of competition within a drive to SF, I would think they would be on top of their customer service game! Parking attendants were great, helpful, and organized. The gentleman at the entrance to the park welcoming and thanking patrons for their visit seemed so genuine and kind!

The trails were well groomed well and really good for any experience skier from beginner to advanced. Many wide trails for beginners as well. Our ski levels vary and everyone in our group was very satisfied. The main lift is pretty slow compared to other ski areas/resorts but with many inexperienced holiday skiers, that might be a good thing seeing as though the lift stopped often-a good indicator of falls somewhere at the boarding/get off.

We did not eat food from Ski SF, unable to comment on that, however, the “lodge” was large and accommodated the large crowds comfortably. You can take your food and sit at a table, which is what we do with several food allergies in our family.

We did not purchase anything from the gift shop so, cannot comment on the shop or prices. The prices for skiing and rentals were very reasonable making this ski area very affordable. Our family typically skiis Colorado, but we’ll definitely keep Ski SF on our list! :)

Great Skiing, But the Rest is All Downhill

Headed to Ski Santa Fe since I heard they had a lot of snow this season.
The first problem was even though I had a GPS device, there is absolutely NO signage as to whether or not you are headed to Ski Santa Fe when leaving the SF city limits. It's as if they are trying to keep it hidden to be used only by the locals, but not good marketing if they want to increase their revenues. I kept driving up the snow covered mountain road praying that the GPS map was correct; it was.
Parking attendants pointed out where I needed to park. I trudged up about 1/4 mile to the lodge which was very lackluster. Fortunately I brought my own food and drinks as the cafeteria looked as bad as the lodge.
The runs and snow were great however
Finally, the ski area has no Wi-Fi or cellular coverage so I was unable to contact the rest of my group to set-up a time for dinner in Santa Fe. All I could think of was if I had an accident on the mountain I could not call for help with my cell phone.
So the bottom line is great skiing, but otherwise everything else is primitive and archaic. Before I visit Ski Santa Fe again I will make sure that they have done a makeover of the lodge and installed the ability to communicate with friends and family from the area.
