This one -lane, ridge-running road offers amazing views and sweeping vistas. It is very safe will places to pullover for a picture. I highly recommend going.

I loved the one way road on top of the world. At least that is what it felt like. Some parts seem as if you’re driving off the edge but it’s just an illusion.
It can be hairy if you’re leery of heights but it’s still fun to drive it.

Just along the highway west of town is a one of a kind drive with history, thills, views and Sky everywhere. Once you commit to the road there is no turning back. Some of our party had white knuckles, sore throats and a few more grey hairs after we got back down. It is well worth it all, if you have a vehicle under 20’.

A little scary if you don't like driving on a narrow road with a cliff on one side, but well worth it for the views and dinosaur tracks up top!

This is an awesome drive!! Need to have someone you confident in there driving skills. Very narrow road with no guardrails. If you don’t like heights not you cup of tea!! This is a 15 minute drive. If your coming back from Royal Gorge make this a stop. It goes back into Canon city from west to east!! The view is beautiful.

Do not miss this. It has some of the most breathtaking views and it’s a fun road to drive. We loved it so much we drove through twice. Will be back to drive it again.

Was a little freaked out about the height but was a fun adventure. The road is narrow so looking down can be scary but the view is awesome

We drove this twice. I discovered a fear of heights so the first time thru, I could not get out of the car. But the 2nd time thru I loved it, got out and hiked to the highest point. The views are breathtaking. My whole family enjoyed this experience.

So we read reviews they all sounds very good but oh may we had an excited time. My kids were laughing, screaming and just having an amazing time. The thrilling ride keep us up all day, take it slow and walk around it you could is like hiking in a car ...lol

The views up this drive is amazing!! So worth it! It’s a one way road and there are little paths you can stop and get out.

Beautiful drive, complete with dinosaur footprints! But if you are at all nervous riding/driving on a narrow road, with valleys on either side, I would avoid it. It’s a little like driving on a rollercoaster. I am from Florida, so not really used to hills and to not being able to see what is in front of me or over the next hill. Just make sure you trust your driver!

We took this short scenic drive before white water rafting and it was surprisingly awesome! The road is thin and as you drive it’s somewhat thrilling as you pass beautiful mountainous views. Our family was pleasantly surprised with this short detour I would highly recommend if you have a few minutes and you’re in the area.

This is an amazing drive. Take it before you reach Canon, when coming in from the West on 50. One way road, two cars won't fit. Stop to look at the dinosaur fossils on tho West side (going up.) If you have bicycles on the road with you just stop and let them go by. Take your time. There are spots at the top to pull over. It can be a bit scary. I would NOT take a trailer camper RV over it.

Fun drive on an old narrow road, along top of a ridge. Moderately steep, no guardrails. Several viewpoints but keep your eyes on the road.

Very cool road! We had a kiddo who is afraid of heights in the car, she was terrified, so I don't recommend for those. But amazing views!

A nice, short 10 minute drive where you can see all of Cañon City and an impressive view of the mountains!
It is a paved road along a ridge.

This was pretty amazing. I read the other reviews and thought it would be crazy or scary but it is neither. Its a fun, very quick drive. The edges are not too bad. I expected steep drop offs but its more like a hill. My Jeep could easily go down most sides. Its not a bad experience, I really expected worse. On a nice day this is definitely something you want to do. I honestly dont know what other reviewers were talking about, there were a lot of other people there and everyone was hiking or driving and everyone seemed to be having a great time. Yes you are very high up on top of a hill. Living in Colorado I have seen WAY worse, and I have driven much better places. Wish it was longer. If you dont stop, its a 10 minute drive at 15 miles an hour from beginning to end. I would actually rate this as tame, but the view from the top is breathtaking. For me there is plenty of road, just stay on it....its not that hard to do.

My lower rating is solely due to the lack of guard rails on this very narrow road. If you are an adrenaline junky, this is definitely for you. Unfortunately, this was terrifying for my husband and me knowing that certain death would be waiting for us with one miscalculation.

White knuckle experience, but SO WORTH IT! If you don't like heights, may not try. Dinosaur tracks at the top. Was amazing view of the city and all around!

Beautiful scenery and view of Canon City. Constructed years ago by inmates from the penitentiary. Dinosaur tracks and display boards for an educational experience of the area.

Very nice hike, it is a pretty easy climb and has some pretty great views all along it. Worth a drive up to it.

Pretty exhilarating drive with beautiful views. If you text and drive on this trip, you'll only do it once.

Beautiful drive built by inmates way back when. A great place to view the mountains around Canon City, and check out some cool dinosaur footprints found when college students were excavating.

Narrow road but in good condition. Great view of the city and surrounding areas . Need to be careful when you are driving.

The views are incredible, the drive is thrilling and there are wonderful informational signs everywhere.
I would love to do this drive at night as well.
It's a one way, 15mph trip that's well worth your time.

If you enjoy slow, single lane, one way roads with 360 degree views and no guardrails up in the sky. Then my friend, this is your line.
Please note, this review is from a two and three wheeled perspective.

This free, one way drive is so much fun. The views are great and you can stop and see numerous dinosaur tracks on the drive which are over your head. This is something we always do when in Canon City

If you're afraid of heights - don't go. But if you have any driving ability at all, just stay on the one way paved road and let your passengers look out the window at the scenic views! Plenty of places to stop.
PRO: Great views. Bring a camera!
CON: Don't like to drive narrow roads? Let someone else drive!

We actually did this twice - the first time we missed the dinosaur footprint fossils! This is a one way route from Hwy 50 back into Canon City.

It was a adreline rush, scary but awesome. Cant beat this view!! Def not for anyone who is scared of heights. Have to drive slow and enjoy the views.

Amazing ride. The edges are so close I was glad that someone ELSE was driving, but the views were magnificent!

Thank you to the inmates of Colorado who created this 2.3 mile drive on the rim of a mountain. Thanks to my husband who surprised me with this little adventure.

So, you’re saying you’ve driven mountain roads and some are a little scary, but you’ve navigated them. Well, this is not like that. There is no mountain wall to hug on one side. It’s straight down on both sides! It was built by the Canon City penitentiary in 1905. I could not look away from the road for a minute. Use the overlooks because the driver literally can’t take their eyes off the road. It’s a one-way road, 7 miles long. Nothing over 20 feet long, nor would you want to. Do this upon your return from the Royal Gorge (as it heads east above Canon City). The entrance is well marked and also has an arch at the beginning. There is lots of folklore which the lady at the Visitor Center in Veterans Park in Canon City can catch you up on. Some of the factoids; there are rocks along the way from every state and there are rocks spelling out “JFK”. This is really a white knuckle experience and we are really looking forward to switching drivers and taking more time. Really an experience of a lifetime.

Free and easy access. While the driver will need to pay attention, nothing to be afraid of here. I may hesitate in inclimate weather. Unique vistas. Short diversion not to be missed.

This Skyline Drive was quite unique in that only one car could drive on it at a time! The city views are quite good!

The drive is up to the top ridge of the Hogback, along a route that is over 100 years old. It's narrow, one way and the speed limit is 15 mph. The views are incredible, especially early in the morning and at sunset. There are a couple of pull outs, but be careful of the edge. It's free. If you're here to see the Royal Gorge, make this part of your tour of Cañon City.

It is a very fun, short, narrow, and free ride where on one side is the flat city and on the other side the red beautiful mountains of CO!

This drive had beautiful views and free to drive- several places to pull over for photos - just go slow! If you pass through or stay at Canon City be sure to look up Skyline Drive!

Fun drive to hit while taking a break from rafting! Views are cool and the novelty of the road is worth the 15 minute drive.

Ride atop a row of hogback ridges overlooking Cañon City and the planes to the east. The narrow road with drops on both sides at times makes for an exhilarating drive for flatlanders like us.

this drive is a one lane drive one way. it has a lot of scenic views of the valleys on both sides of the drive, as one is driving on a ridge a couple of thousand feet high. well worth the half hour it takes to do this drive on the way to the royal gorge.

Beautiful, but very narrow one-way road. The only way out is to keep going. Over a mile at the top where one side of road is a sharp drop off and other side isn’t much better. If we’d known this before we’d gone up we probably would have skipped it. If these things don’t bother you it’s a beautiful view!!

This is an amazing drive that overlooks Canon City. It’s one way so take your time, pause and enjoy the views as you drive on a ridge with no barriers on either side of you. And it’s free - that’s the best part.

Drive slow, use caution. Pull off and take a look at the dinosaur prints. Stop at the top and take a look out over the city. Learn the history (built by convicts). And it's FREE.

If you go to Canon City, definitely take this drive. It's so scenic but one way and a bit narrow, but it wasn't scary at all. We highly recommend it.

A little scary but beautiful drive, don’t look down and you will be fine. I would recommend you do this one way drive if in the area

Believe me, all the cautions mentioned ARE VALID.
It is one way. Opening entrance arch prevents over-size vehicles from entering. Once you begin, you're committed to completing the drive: fifteen to twenty minutes, two-plus miles.
If you're the driver, the majority of your trip will be focused on keeping the car on the road. No enjoying the scenery while the vehicle is in motion! It's along what they call a hogback ridge so drop offs are severe and on both sides. Once to the top and not knowing what they were getting into, I can envision a party pleading for another visitor to drive their car the rest of the way.
The drive has fantastic views but is better suited for the adventurous rather than the faint of heart. We didn't stop at all the pull offs so we never saw any mention of dinosaur tracks.
Enter the drive west of Canon City on US 50. It drops you off near residences downtown.

Great short drive with amazing views of all the mountains and surrounding areas. Also stopped for Dinosaur foot prints in the rocks.

WOW,this is the most amazing drive with a view. It is a one way road that goes along the mountain. There are many places you can pull over and take pictures. It is a must do!

Simply awesome! If in Cañon City take a few minutes to drive Skyline Drive. There are several places to pull over and take in the beautiful scenery! Driver doesn’t get to enjoy as much since the road is very narrow!

The check-in person at our hotel told us to go on this drive and to check out the Dinosaur tracks. So after going to the Gorge, we went up on this one way drive which was really neat. The road is quite narrow at some places but the scenery is beautiful. We did, however, Forget to check out the dinosaur tracks and only thought of it after we were long gone😏.

Nice quick drive with some nice views of the area. Worth the drive and stop for a few photos. 20 mins up and down.

My family and I took a drive up Skyline today. If you are afraid of heights, do not go. If you can handle heights, you will love it. They have places to pull over to snap pics also. Would do this again. Also it is free!

No traffic! One way around. Less one mile. Even can walk, run, ride bike or motorcycle. Rain or Sunshine.

If you’re in the area, take this little side trip!! Beautiful views! And a few dinosaur footprints!!
Let me know if you find the Michigan stone on the archway.

You feel like you are going to fall off the "mountain". It was a very unique and really fun drive. It took 30 minutes.

Great views along this roller coaster of a one way road, way above Canon City. Great views, some easy pull offs to jump out and take photos or take a short hike. Well maintained and easy to navigate. Whoever is driving....focus on the road and not the glorious views!!

If you want a shot of adrenaline, take this one way road across the ridge top of the mountain! One car wide for sure and drop offs on both sides. 360 deg views. And it ends up right in Canon City. I believe there is also a segway trip for the especially daring. That's on my bucket list because this is a beautiful drive. It is paved. Amazing.

Well worth the time to drive a bit out of town to take this drive...it was included in our Colorado Jeep Tour that we took so didnt have to drive it ourselves. The drop offs on both sides of the car is a tad intimidating but also fun at the same time.
Doesnt take long to get there or to drive it so no reason to miss it!

This was part of our Colorado Jeep Tour (1/2 Day). It was nice, high drive with views over the countryside!

I drove our Dodge Ram with my son up and over the Skyline Drive. It was wide enough but a little nerve-wracking, especially if you're even a little afraid of heights. Although vehicle traffic is allowed (1-way), I would prefer to walk it as most sensible people were doing. Next time! The views were totally worth it and seeing the topography and geography of the razorback hills was amazing from up high. I couldn't make out the dinosaur tracks myself, but I guess they are there.

Short trip, but get out and check out the dinosaur imprints. Has good views of town, especially in the evening.

Only takes a few minutes but a great drive. We had 6 people with 2 kids ages 10 and 4. Road is narrow but adequate. One way road.

From my first time to just last week I never get tired of the drive up and then down Skyline Drive. At night, with the lights and stars. such a great reminder to stop and take a moment.....

BUT the drive was beautiful well worth the drive. One way road. Must experience this road.you are above everything.

Great views of the town and the valley. Also dinosaur tracks were very cool! Interpretive material and direction on where to pull off for the tracks could be better. Also, you have to travel out of town to take the one-way road back into town. Included in the Jeep tours.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: Part of the drive has sheer 500 ft. drop-offs on BOTH sides at the same time... so if you have a fear of heights - this drive is NOT for you. The best part of this drive are the dinosaur footprints and the view (duh), but it feels quite dangerous and treacherous at points. If you don't have a fear of heights - enjoy!

While in the area we took this drive to help orient ourselves to the town. Its a well maintained and easy trail! Loved the views. Definitely plan to do on foot.

I live here and i have been over this so many times. I highly suggest to use caution if you are ob a motorcycle. The curves going down hill are very tight and there is loose gravel on the pavement especially if it had recently rained. I did this once and had the choice to lay the bike down or go over the side into the prison yard. Needless to say i got a handle bar in the chest, but im still breathing! So if you are not experienced or dont feel confident or you are stoned...reconsider!

Fun drive with pretty neat views! We felt very safe while along the road and out looking at the dinosaur fossil spot. There's a few areas with some shorter hiking trails which were fun. It was pretty quiet on a Sunday afternoon.

This has been thee sketchiest drive I have ever done, I have done some off roading, drove Going to the Sun rd, Pike's Peak, etc. don't let this little know road fool you. Yea it is paved but you're literally driving on a spur only wide enough for the narrow single lane road with drop offs on either side

It is a one-way only road for a good reason. The steep drop-offs along the road might be unnerving to some. There are some pull-offs.

We just stumbled on this road while killing time. It's worth the drive-up. <3 It's a narrow, one-way drive over a ridge looking out over Canon City.

Wow! We were encouraged to drive this road by some locals and so glad we did. If you are afraid of narrow one way roads with steep drops...don’t go. If you want stunning views , add this to your day!

I was introduced to Skyline drive 40 years ago by my to be wife at the time. We have returned to Canyon, her home town, several times. We never miss the opportunity to drive Skyline when in town. Free easy to access, thrilling drive and spectacular view. Always go once in daylight and return after dark.

This one-way paved road the puts you on top of a hog back give you great views of Canon City and the surrounding area. The street starts on the West side of town on US 50 just past the Pueblo CC.

An awesome one-way road with amazing views of the city and surrounding mountains. It is one-way and I know a bunch of people thought it was a tense drive but to be honest it was a piece of cake if you have any experience driving up to the top of say Pikes Peak, Mt. Evans, or Independence Pass this is a walk in the park if you have experience with that kind of mountain road. Well worth the drive and some pullouts with some amazing views as well as some dinosaur tracks on the way up out the driver side window. It dumps you right into a neighborhood and right at the edge of town by the correctional facility. If I owned one of those homes I would tell every first time visitor that you have take Skyline drive to get to my house. Very quick drive. Obviously the smaller the car the less tense it might be we have a Ford Explorer and it was fantastic.

We loved the breathtaking beauty of Skyline Drive! The views went on forever. We hiked some if the area and thoroughly enjoyed every minute!

Driving or walking this wonderful road has many rewards. From the beauty of the city to the fresh, clean Air, you will not be disappointed. The calmness of looking out on top of canon city is an incredible sight. I recommend for added fun, walk the road instead of drive.

Easy short drive over Cañon City. Beatiful view plenty of places to pull over. It's narrow and one way. The entire trip starting the trail is about 10-15 minutes without stops. Maybe.

This is a short little scenic drive that we took went on during our Colorado Jeep tour. We saw dinosaur foot prints on it. My husband & I even went back & drove it on our own with our rental car. Nice short drive.

This is one of the highlights of the trip through Canon City, and ITS FREE! We loved this so much we did it every night, and the sunsets are amazing! A must see even if you are just driving by.

This is a one lane road from the west to east. The view is awesome but take your time. There are a few pull offs.

We were a little nervous going up the drive but the views made it completely worth it. You really do feel like your so much closer to the sky. A must see if you are in the area!

Quick amazing drive up Skyline Drive. Great place to catch a romantic sunset with amazing views! Road is one way up and down into a neighborhood.

Thrilling and scenic. I have never been on such a narrow mountain road. I highly recommend this drive!

This road takes you up and along the top of a ridge. The road is one way so you don't have to worry about traffic. You can see the town and surrounds from both side of the road.

We loved this. Loved! Took our teens after Royal Gorge Railway (also a must). This one way switch-back drive puts you on the side of a narrow rock formation. There’s a spot where dinosaurs are documented & the views are unreal!

My husband & I drove Skyline Drive in September after going to the gorge. Wow! This little drive is terrifying. The double drop-offs were a total trip. I don't know why but it felt like we could just fall off the edge of the earth. Exhilarating. We didn't stop but it was only because I just wanted it to be over. I was freaking out a little. We want to go back and do it again. We'll definitely get out of the car to look around a little more on the next trip.

Of course there are no curbs or railings and a smaller car would be better for this drive. The views are remarkable and with a couple of pull over spots you can take your eyes off the road.

You can see the whole town from one spot and not feel like you might fall at any moment. nice and free adventure.

I can't believe this is free! The views are so beautiful here but the drive is a bit scary. It's a one way narrow road overlooking the city and there's literally no room for errors as there are no guardrails. There are also hairpin turns so don't try to drive this with a trailer or motor home. We were able to stop a few times and take in the view as there was noone else on the road with us that day...I'm sure it's busy during the summer. It's definitely worth a stop...or should I say it's worth a drive.

This drive is only a few miles from town. It does not have any admission fee. It is a pretty quick drive but very unique and has good views as you drive to the top of a small mountain. A good quick trip. The road is one way and one lane but really not that narrow and navigating the road was not a problem.

Gorgeous! Simply Gorgeous! Lots of pull-offs for picture taking and the view is just... wow. No kidding about the narrow roadway and switchbacks, but Blanquito (my minivan lol) made it through, he's a trooper. :)

It was a recommended drive to us and definitely would give a thumbs up. It's a 1-lane, 1-way road (just FYI) that you need a confident driver for.

It is a hidden gem that will give you a memorable riding experience watching two different sides of the mountains. I wish there was a desk that extends the photo experience; most of the time we took pictures in small rest area-like places. Overall top-rated experience.

Fun little 3 mile drive. One way up to a beautiful view of the the town below! Some trails at top but great views even if you don’t get out of car!

This was an amazing drive! It's one way only traffic, no vehicles over 20 feet and is a winding, narrow road. If you're afraid of heights you might want to give this one a pass, but it is absolutely beautiful!

Beautiful scenic drive but not for the faint of heart. Narrow road winds around the mountain. Definitely worth the trip.

Drove the skyline drive with my wife and her cousins. She sat in the back seat during the ride. We got to the end and I thought what a thrill this was. I asked my wife what her thoughts were. She replied that she never opened her eyes. So much for that adventure.

The road is narrow, drops off steeply on one side, makes it look like you’re driving into nowhere, but well worth the visit. It’s only about 20 minutes total. It’s one way from highway 50 (thank goodness) returning to Canon City. It will take longer, of course, if you opt to bicycle or walk it. Don’t miss the dinosaur tracks!

Our family enjoyed this drive on the paved, one-way road. The views are amazing from the top of the ridge. Other reviewers are correct when they say it's not for the faint of heart! Drive carefully and slowly. There are frequent turn-outs if you want to stop and look. If you do get out of the car with young kids, be aware that there are no guard rails, so watch them closely!
If you prefer to hike instead of drive, there are trails all over the area. You can park on a neighborhood street at the end of Skyline drive and hike up.

The Skyline Drive in Canon City, CO is not for the faint hearted! The one-way road is narrow and a little nerve wracking, but the views are fantastic. I highly recommend it!

We just headed up this road not knowing what it was. Super awesome views. We went on a Jeep tour and it went here too was great to go twice even

We drove the Skyline Drive on our way to whitewater raft at the Gorge. Such a neat little addition to our day!

The Road is high and narrow with amazing views! Steep Drop offs on either side... makes you a bit....puckered! Its free!

It's a fun drive over looking Canon City. It's not as narrow as lead to believe because it's a one way road so the while width of the road is used. The dinosaur tracks are fascinating, but only if you know what you're looking for. There are signs pointing them out, which is great, but they aren't very impressive without knowing what they are

This is a one-way road, starting west of town and ending back in town. Great views off both sides of the mountain.

Great hiking trails! Well marked, nice view. Plenty of pull-out spots to keep a one-lane road very manageable.

Interesting history, dinosaur tracks, very narrow. Scenic. We enjoyed this trip. We were on a tour in a Jeep so it was extra scary. There are areas you can pull over.

Occasionally I drive this on the way home to observe my new home and admire this beautiful place! Single lane road if you have a fear of heights this will give you a thrill! Like a paved roller coaster!

At the recommendation of our B&B host we drove up this road. My husband was the driver and he is a good driver. But he actually admitted that this was the worst and scariest road he ever drove on. And this one was paved unlike the old Fall River road in Rocky Mountain national Park. It was tense at some points where there were cliffs on both sides. The view is great however. But he did say he would never drive up there again even if he was paid to.

This was a blast, we were on our way back from the Royal Gorge train and our elves on the train told us of this adventure. It will test the driving skill of the best driver, and the road is only one way, and the lane barely 2-3 ft wider than your car and NO guardrail.
Great vistas of the local area, doesnt take 15-20 minutes, but the views and grins all around are worth it.

Not nearly as scary as some reviews made this out to be, although I wasn't the one driving. Pretty cool road to see the surrounding areas.

We took Skyline Drive coming back from the Royal Gorge Bridge to Colorado Springs. It's a road that goes up into the hill above the main road, with drop offs on both sides that gives it a unique vibe. Definitely take it if you're travelling through the area. Very cool.

This is a terrifying drive, but if you are brave and don't mind VERY NARROW roads, then it is well worth it. When at the top, you can see for miles in both directions. There is also a hiking path near the overlook, but we were way too cowardly to go up it.

This is a one way drive (fairly short) but great views of Canon City from high on a ridge. The road at places is very narrow which be scary for some people.

You have to seek this one out and ask the locals because if you don't know you may not realize where the entry is and that you can take it (one way). Steep and narrow drive, but places to pull off and fantastic views at the top. We drove this several times as we were coming back from Royal Gorge Bridge park and Royal Gorge Zip Line tours

This beautiful drive is cost effective, but not for the faint of heart. It is a one line drive across the top of some large hills/mountain. There are a few pull over spots where you can climb a few rocks and trails. It is a must do in Cañon City

This was absolutely terrifying. I hated every second of driving here, but my family said it was an absolutely spectacular view and they greatly appreciated this drive. For a short excursion that is free I strongly recommend this drive if you are the passenger or have no fears of narrow, high roads with absolutely no safeguards.

Best thing ever! It's a narrow, one-way, three-mile road with beautiful views, dinosaur tracks, and some scary ups and downs. What could be better?

This was crazy!! Impressive and scary! Great views. Don’t do it if you are afraid of heights. It is a one way road only. There are a couple of very skinny pull over spots.

It's a short drive but it has spectacular views. Well worth the trip. The road is one-way only. There are several spots where you can pull over to take pictures.

I didn't get to enjoy much of the view b/c I was driving but my passengers loved it! They at least showed me pretty pics!

had a great view of all around you. saw dinosaur tracks. saw a couple sleeping in their car at the top.

Meg, our zip line guide at Royal Gorge Rafting & Zipline Tours, recommended we take this little 10-minute detour when returning from ziplining to Canon City. It was worth it - a narrow road along a ridge with stunning vistas Just make sure the driver is comfortable with heights!

Beautiful views of Canon City & surrounding area. Very fun to see the dinosaur tracks. If you are afraid of heights would not be fun. Great views & narrow road. Very fun drive or walk if you like steep hills!

So this is a short little trip after a day of rafting or whatever in canon city. Its this little road that runs along a ridge. There are significant views and falls on both sides. There is even a section where you can get out and check out dinosaur footprints. It is 10 minutes out of the way. But it is very cool

They say that one of the first signs if age is your feet become made out of clay. I guess this true ,I drove skyline for the second time 25 years after driving it.
If you like heights, conquering personal fears then I would recommend it,otherwise skip it. You drive through a non descript entrance. The road is as narrow as people say, demanding your full attention. With few pull offs.
Lastly even if the road appeals to you I would suggest you visit only If it is on the way to somewhere as it is not a destination type activity

Only takes an hour or so...must do if you are in conon city. Stop and check out the dinasour fossils

The drive is a nail biter and I wouldn't consider it if the weather isn't nice, but the views were incredible.

totally lame. such a waste of time and not at all what they made it seem. took 2 mins to drive up and down the road.

A short but thrilling drive! Definitely a perspective like no other. Added bonus.....Dinosaur footprints!

Go now while you can, because this incredible drive is FREE! Expect that change drastically when the government decides to start charging $5-$10 per car for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Awesome views, well-maintained road, plenty of pull-offs for photography... And its FREE!

This was the highlight of our jeep tour. What a great vantage point of Canon City and the dinosaur fossils were cool on the way up.

It's free, short in duration, and you get to see some cool dinosaur tracks. If you are there, you might as well do it.

We drove Skyline twice during a recent visit and despite the unnervingly narrow one way road, it was well worth the trip. It begins just off the main highway and you'll begin to gain altitude immediately. Built on a now-abandoned narrow gauge railbed that clings to the side of the mountain, the single narrow track is overshadowed in places by massive boulders, ledges and even some visible fossilized dinosaur tracks. There are several locations to pull off and admire the view, but use caution when standing close to the edge, as the drop off is impressively steep and there are no guardrails except for an old sagging cable barrier at the very top. As you descend, you'll encounter a couple of switchbacks that have to be negotiated on the way to the bottom. Although they didn't seem as abrupt as those found on Pikes Peak, you'll still have to be careful when driving to prevent any problems. This is another beautiful and interesting free activity to do while visiting the Canon City area, and missing it would be a real shame.

This was ok. The view was very nice, and it was something that we can check off our list of things to do here. Road was in good condition.

This is a drive for the brave. A one lane narrow road off of Hwy. 50 that empties out in town. If you are not used to mountain driving it will get your adrenelin going for sure. No guardrails, straight down both sides. But kids should love it and the views are great.

A little scary. Passenger had great view, driver could not take eyes off the narrow road even for a second. I loved it .

We were told about the sky line drive by our rafting guide in 2016, we were touring on bikes and only managed to get over it once, while we were there. This year the weather was good and we stopped at the top to take in the views and dinosaur foot prints, if your in the area and heading into canon city its a no brainer.
A word of warning if your on a motorbike and there are storms or high winds give it a miss, it is a single track tarmac road at height and very exposed, we had issues 2 years ago, and our first day this year we gave it a miss in the morning, the evening was perfect and the following day.

Amazing scenery, but the road is very narrow. I would only recommend driving this road in good weather.

If you have a steady driver with a NOT large vehicle then be sure to take this drive. We went about 4 in the afternoon which was a good time. Loved the beautiful views. Tried not to think how high up we were. Be brave do it!

Quick free experience. Best if you can have your windshield nice and clean as you stay in your car most of the time

Just a 15-20 drive at 15 mph that is sensational. I've never had the opportunity to DRIVE a hogback!

This is a short and delightful trip, but not for people who are afraid of heights or steep drop offs. There is no turning back once you're on it. The view of the surrounding area I'd great, especially on a sunny day.

My friend and I drove this narrow strip of toad first thing in the morning. What a treat. We got out to see the dinosaur footprints and then met some runners that regularly run up this road. Breathtaking views . If you go to the Royal Gorge you simply MUST take a turn and drive up this treasure.

Beautiful view of the city! This was our third time to Canon City and the first time we tried Skyline Drive. Worth it!

This is a great free attraction that might not be well advertised, but you don't want to miss it. We just stumbled upon it when a server told us about it. Just outside Canon City look for a sign directing you to turn right. It's a narrow one way road along the top of a mountain crest that gives you a wonderful view off both sides of the crest where you can see all of canon city on one side and the mountains on the other side. Several pull offs where you can park and get out as well as trail connections if you wanted a vigorous hike.

Gorgeous views, make sure to stop and see the Dino footprints. Amazing trek with views of Cañon City, the Penitentiary, and the high plains off in the distance.

I read on Trip Advisor that Skyline Drive was a top thing to do while in Canon City. Our family drove the Drive in early evening, and the view was spectacular! However, the road itself is white-knuckle for someone who isn't accustomed to it. Just take it slow and enjoy the road, and you will have a blast!

Not for the faint of heart but stunning nonetheless. It’s like a roller coaster in spots. I don’t recommend it on a cloudy day.

This is a short oneway drive going over a hog back road. It has excellent views and you can stop to see some dinosaur prints. When you get to the end of the drive you are right in town and close to HWY 50.

Amazing panoramic views. No cost. Not for people with a fear of heights. Short trip, located near royal gorge. Check it out for a quick detour if on the area.

We loved this drive! We rented a Jeep while in Colorado for the purpose of beautiful drives such as this. Be sure to stop on your way up to see the dinosaur fossil and stop at the top for some beautiful photos!

Amazing drive and views... For the record this road is ONE WAY, had it not been I doubt I'd have driven it. The road is narrow (but is wide enough for the width of one car). I'm afraid of heights, but drove the road anyway. Although it was intense, the drive was fairly short (maybe 10 min max) driving at a very slow speed. I'd definitely recommend doing this drive if you're in the area.

We had the opportunity to do this drive as part of one of our tours. Worth the time to experience it. It is quite a view and drive.

This runs parallel to the highway and luckily is a one-way street. The road is very narrow so plan on going single file along the way and just looking around as you drive. There are a few spots to pull off the road, but otherwise it's just about the view before you head into town.

A narrow paved road with wonderful views. At times you are driving along the spine of the mountain with a lot of nothing on both sides. Well worth it.

This drive had many awesome views! We did it as part of the Colorado Jeep Tour! They do the driving for you🤗

thrilling views! scary narrow roads... totally worth the short drive out of town to see this! dinosaur footprints, opportunity to park and walk trails.

It takes ~30 minutes.. do it.
The views alone will take your breath away. We always stop in for a look especially when traveling through the area during evenings.

Mild compared to Pikes Peak, but readied us for our Pikes Peak trip tomorrow. Great views and hiking looking great! Clear day- we could see as far as the eye could see.

YOu access Skyline drive while heading to the bridge, it is one way and basically takes you back to where you started by the train. It is a harrowing drive across the ridge of a mountaintop with no railings. So, a blow out, aggressive driver, well... your done! Seriously, it was a fun drive, surprised it is allowed. We did have a moron race up behind us in a little rice burner doing twice the speed limit, we let him go by (there are a few pull overs locations) We were a bit surprised we did not see him at the base of the mountain the hard way, but he lived to see another day. Near the peak there is a parking spot where you can climb to the absolute ridge. Gentle hike and great views.

Awesome views - let someone else drive, especially if you don't like driving on the edge of a ledge - so you can enjoy the views.

This is a one-way trip. Once you start, there is no turning back. In places, you are driving on the top of the ridge where literally the only thing on the top of the ridge is the single lane road. The views are incredible!!! -- but the driver had better not be afraid of heights because unlike the his/her passengers, he/she had better not close their eyes.
There are a few places where you can park the car along the way. One has a spot for viewing dinosaur tracks. Very interesting!

Breathtaking views with plenty of turn offs for pics. Views on both sides. Short ride but worth the time. One way driving only and not as scary as it appears. I’d definitely do it again!

We had so much fun the first time, we hit it again on our way back. Very easy to find, thrilling to go up and worth the adventure.

Skyline Drive gave us great views of Canon City and the surrounding area. The one-way road was narrow and in good condition. When we were there last week (Thursday afternoon), it was not crowded at all -- we only saw a few vehicles passing us while we were stopped at the pullouts. There were plenty of places to pull off the road to take photos. There was also a hiking trail, but when we were there it was just too hot for hiking (93 degrees). We completed the entire drive in about 30 minutes.

I've been going across this amazing drive for over fifty years, and it still excites and makes me smile. Don't miss this wonderful ride if you're in the area!

We take this short but exhilirating drive every time we come through. We have driven it in trucks and jeeps, although a car would do just fine. A great place for pictures.

Once you get to the top, the views are amazing. It was windy and chilly but definetly worth it. Went up in a Jeep and had no problems.

Wow! It is an amazing drive. Glad my husband drove it. It has great views but was I scared? Yeah! I’m glad I did it though. Would I do it again? If I forget how scary it is! But must do at least once. If you are a scared driver?...may want someone else to drive it for you.

Wonderful view of the area from atop a one way ridge road. It is paved, but not for the squeamish. No guard rails and steep drop offs for most of the drive.

Such a wonderful drive to sight see and marvel in the Colorado's beauty! I am so thankful someone at Royal gorge suggested this drive to us!

It’s a fun little drive down a one way road. You can stop look over the edges and take pics. Just a fun few minutes out of your day.

Some of my family is a little afraid of heights and do not enjoy this trip but I love it. The one way drive with the dinosaur foot impressions still gives me a sense of awe even after 5 times on the trip.

You should be scared once every day. This drive is for that day. White knuckles. Tight grip. Focus on center of the roadway. I had to wipe my hands a few times because I had sweaty palms with fear. The road climbs to a dizzying narrow peak and steep switchback. Still couldn’t relax until the smooth transition back in Canon City.

We did this drive a couple times over our weekend in Canon City. Nerve rattling but def worth it! My 11 yr old was mesmerized by putting hands in dinosaur footprints and view incredible!!

small one lane one way road on the edge of the mountain. Quite intense a drive for me...I don't like edges! But there are fossils and you can park and check it out...beautiful views

This is a must see! It’s such a unique experience driving down the peak of a mountain and being able to see both sides. It’s also interesting to see the size of dinosaur feet.

Just in the outskirts of Cañon City lies this "one way" road
Allow some 30 minutes to experience the (short) drive from up the hill and the view(s)
Make sure you pay attention to the narrow drive.
It is not crowded

Pretty cool experience. It Took only a few minutes, go slow in good weather. Free so why not! Make sure your car truck is not longer then 22ft.

Many of the reviews describe this drive is somewhat scary, but we found it to be more awe-inspiring than scary. The views are incredible and there are plenty of places to pull to the side of the road to take pictures. Totally worth it!

We took this drive as it was just a mile from our hotel. It was a nice unplanned thing to do. Beware, the road is very close to the edge of the cliff at times.

A narrow one way road that twists and turns through the mountains. You should be comfortable with heights though.

This is a stunning drive and a great place to park and get out of the car and get a little exercise and see some incredible views ! There is even a spot to see fossils of dinosaur prints ! I highly recommend this !

If you’re afraid of heights, I’d probably avoid this, but it is a really cool short drive. Narrow road atop a mountain ridge with great views.

What fun it was to travel this one way road where one could see in all directions while being so close to Canon City!

We went there in the late afternoon and the scenery was beautiful. We could see the mountainous areas on one side while the plain on the other side. It was also a good place to take pictures and selfies! But you must have a good driving skill if you want to get to the top!

Scary. Very scary. I was afraid I was going to fall off. White knuckle drive for sure. Hot, beautiful day. No wind. If it was windy or raining, I would have crapped my pants. The dinosaur prints were cool.

Great views. Not for the faint of heart, however. Road is paved and well-maintained, and there are several places to pull off/park.

This scenic drive will get your heart pumping! A couple of things to note-it is a one way paved street. It’s one way because too narrow for anything else! And, watch for bike riders. Don’t miss this drive if you’re in the Canon City area.

3 miles of one lane, one way road with no guard rails. A motorcycle. Not much more you can say.
You can see forever as you drive up, make a sharp U-turn and come back down with only a few tight corners to worry about.
Don't regret it, take this drive today.

Paved 1 way road. And it’s a narrow road with drop offs on both sides! Not for feint hearted. Only a 5 minute or less drive. Awesome views of the city

This was really something, the views from here were awesome. So glad we found out about it. Didn't know it was there

Go slow and take your time the road is narrow and there’s only room for one car but it’s a one-way road. Beautiful drive in the daytime and the nighttime I wouldn’t do it, but I even saw some people walking along the road.

The drive was spectacular and adrenaline pumping! If you are scared of heights and driving near cliff edges don't attempt this drive. However, for us thrill seekers this is a quick experience that is well worth the trek!

This one way road located on a hogback is a must if you are in Canon City. You can drive it in about 5 minutes if you do not stop. There are really cool views from both sides of your vehicle. The highlight is getting out and looking for the dinosaur, ankylosaurus, prints. They are on the left, shortly after you begin your assent.

I'm glad I wasn't driving! The weather was clear and the road was fine, so we did it. The views are beautiful and the dinosaur tracks are very cool. Glad my son was willing to drive us! Beautiful!

This is a relatively short, one-way drive that gives you great views of Cañon City and the surrounding valley. As others have pointed out, the road can get a little narrow, but as long as it's a nice day, you have nothing to worry about. There is some room to pull over near the top so you can walk around and get some pictures.

This was a fun drive. We got to see dinosaur footprints, and we also had a beautiful view. The road is narrow, so be sure you're not drunk when you do it!

Very short and simple but extremely scenic and unique! I went maybe 5 times in the month I stayed in this area. When you come out the other side you'll be downtown Canon City also so it's convenient as well :)

I live in Canon. And I drive over this every once in awhile just to be reminded of the beauty of our area. Fabulous vistas that can't be seen any other way.

As a part of the Jeep tour, we did the Skyline Drive and it was well worth it. I'm just glad I didn't have to drive it. Never driven the top of a hogback. Great views, not for the faint of heart. Well worth the time.

Been across it twice. Very narrow, cars only go one way but well paved with clear pull offs. Nice view and picture spot.

We were just passing through and after deciding against The Gorge since it was $28 per person and more time than we had we stumbled upon this drive created by prisoners in the early 1900s. It was narrow but not treacherous. All paved and offered spectacular views. If you don't stop you can finish it in 20 minutes.

This is a free short drive along the ridge of a very high cliff, it is scary and amazing! You need to give this a try.

It's a good thing this road is one way! I'm giving this 5 stars but a couple people in our group would give it a minus 5! White knuckles for the driver and a blanket over the head for one of the passengers! This road looks like a helicopter flew over and randomly poured concrete on a mountain ridge. Great short walk with wonderful views at the top, and only a few miles long, I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes riding on roller coasters. Leave the merry-go-round riders at the bar up the hill and pick them up later!!

If you like heights this is for you...... hear the grandkids scream....some joy, some terror!!!! It's a hoot.

Do not do this if you are scared of heights! The road is narrow, and the drops are steep in parts. That said, the views are amazing. There are hikers on the road, with a few areas to pull over to take in the scenery. I would recommend this nice slow drive!

Suicidal drive! No warning once you’re in the path, there’s no turning back. It’s one way and the road is tiny ( fits a small car), no guardrails, and one wrong move and you’ll fall to your death. Pictures I’ve seen make it look wider than it is. The cliffs are super steep, I’m guessing 500 + feet high at least. It was a terrifying drive with my teenagers who helped me stay calm amidst my arms shaking and heart beat of the charts. To top it off, it got super windy and started to rain. I didn’t see any views as. I was only concentrating on not falling off. We prayed the whole 15 min drive at 10 miles per hour! Horrific experience !!!

If you are afraid of heights I would not do this drive. All in all we had a blast. You can see for miles. It is a one way drive so no worries about cars coming to meet you.

No pictures will do this experience justice. The feeling of driving at the end of the earth is exhilarating! There are multiple crests in the road where it looks like you’re about to drive into oblivion. Amazing! There are also places to pull over to enjoy the views and hike. My family loved this!

Exceptional view from both sides of the road. Drive goes along peak for a good distance. A few pull outs are available as well. No cost. Length restricted to 20 feet. Had no problem with this driving 3/4 ton crew cab pickup.

We've done this several times but never get tired of seeing it. The views are good and our favorite part is the dinosaur track area. Free to drive on it.

Best Views over looking Cañon City, peaceful, beautiful place for pictures. Places to pull off and over look the views.

We drove up Skyline Drive at about 8 pm. It was so amazing driving so high up on a one way road with no guardrails! I love that places like this still exist in our country. There were several pull off places to get out and take pictures. It is right in Canon City so not out of the way at all.

Just an utterly amazing view and fun thing to do. Maybe drive it first then park at the botton and walk back up!!!

take your time, look at the dino tracks and enjoy the view! It's a one way street and it empties next to hiking trails.

Having seen video and found out it was only 2.8 miles despite my vertigo I gave it a go.
Road is fully tarmaced, one way with a 15mph speed limit. Quite a few places to stop and take photographs.
Really glad I drove it

This is a Canon City favorite, a single lane drive overlooking the city on the Dakota Hogback. The road is safe, provided the driver is careful.

A short and very straightforward little drive on a one way road. There is a small parking area near the start which allows you to walk on some of the tracks and enjoy the views. It is only a small height above the surrounding area but offers surprisingly good views. The remaining short drive is a bit of fun. This isn’t
Something you would go out of your way to do, but if you are driving through the area it is worth a short detour.

Short fun scenic drive. Could be a little scary if you are afraid of heights. The dinosaur tracks are really cool to see from this perspective. There is room for maybe two cars to pull over, so don't be a total jerk like someone was on our drive and think it's ok to just sort of pull halfway off the road so that no one can get around you to continue the drive. It's not like it's twenty miles, go to the end, go back up the highway and drive it again so you can actually get off the road to park. There's not much that takes tons of time so no one is stopped there more than a few minutes. Beautiful views of the town and surrounding area!!!

A can't miss if you are in the area. Very unique drive. There are dinosaur tracks along the ridge, and a great view of Canyon City. It's not very long of a drive but you can get out at a couple of places and walk around.

I don't like heights and this road made me extremely nervous, but we did it and it was unique. We debated if people really ride their bikes here and who built this road.

Sheer drops on both sides of the narrow road but spectacular views and interesting signs explaining the area's dinosaur history. Fortunately, it's also not too long in case the drive frays your nerves!

rode motorcycles up here great view of the city. Fun experience would recommend it to anyone.Rode good for bikes.

Some friends recommended this to us; and even though I am afraid of heights, I actually drove this twice with my husband encouraging me on!! Not only were the views wonderful, the rocks and the dinosaur footprints were an unexpected surprise!!

Amazing although scary, but let’s face it, a lot of drives in Colorado are scary! It was worth the drive, I wish we could’ve stopped, but the limited parking was already taken. A real treasure in canon city!

We were passing through Canon City and did Skyline Drive in rain. We could barely see, but it was still a fun ride.
It’s easy access to get on, and when you get off you are near downtown.
There are pull outs along the way to enjoy the view.

This drive was part of our jeep tour and the views were amazing! I'm not sure I could have driven it myself, it is pretty crazy!

This was a short drive with great views...perfectly safe, but not for the faint of heart! Nice stop on the way to the gorge.

The views are amazing but the narrow road and extreme heights made it hard for us to enjoy. There are no guardrails on the road so it definitely is an adrenaline rush. We made it but not sure if we’d do it again. It is free to travel the road.

White-knuckles for the driver, beautiful views for the passengers! This is a one lane road with not a lot of room on either side. 15 mph speed limit. There are a few pull offs along the way to get out, if desired. There is a place for a few cars to park at the top.

Not a destination by any means, but if you're in Canon City, check this out. Its a narrow one-way road that offers excellent views of Canon City and the foothills of the mountains surrounding the Gorge. There are a few palces to stop, get out, and take pics...if you want. Definitely worth 30 minutes of your time. However, the road is very narrow and the driver has to pay attention.

Well if you're scared of heights like I am, you better buckke up lol. I don't know why I do these things to myself. Maybe my love for beautiful & fascinating things is stronger than my fear. This is just a 3 mile, one way road in Canon City, CO. But the views are amazing. There are places you can pull over & get out & take pics if you want. It's like, I think they call it, a ridgeback??? We went after we left the Royal Gorge. It doesn't take long & brings you back into Canon City & so worth the drive.

The Skyline Drive is a hidden gem. It is a must see and allows for incredible views of the mountains and valley.

Preparing for my trip I had seen this as an option. It looked really exciting, but also seemed a little scary. I decided not to do it.
We were driving around, it was a Tuesday... We saw the entrance to Skyline Drive and I took it. I expected to be told to stop or turn around, but I wasn't. What followed were 15-20 minutes of white knuckle excitement. It's not a scary twisty turny kind of road. The fear comes from the sheer drop off at the edge of the single lane road, the drop off that does not look survivable if a driver makes an error.. As the driver, I got through it by focusing on the lane and not looking down -- though twice I looked down and almost bleeped my pants.
I wouldn't recommend the drive: after dark; when the road is slick (rain, ice, snow) or even when it's busy -- you don't want to feel rushed by the guy behind you.
But do it. It's a thrill. Setup a dashcam before you go.

July 2019. Just a couple of miles outside Canon City on the road to Royal Gorge Bridge. This is a fun drive along the ridge of a mountain. It is a narrow one-way paved road about a mile long. Four wheeler not required. It terminates near the historic district in downtown Canon City. If your passengers don’t like winding mountain roads without guardrails then leave them back at the hotel! 😂

My bride and I were on our way to Summit County and spent a few minutes in Canon City eating a burger, driving through the downtown historic district and driving on. Not too far out of town is the Skyline Drive. It's not long but it is thrilling to say the least. Most of the way is a sharp drop off on either side. We drove it in the rain which made it a little more exciting Take the time, drive the Skyline Drive. It's FREE!!

No trip to Canon City is complete without driving the notorious Skyline Drive. Height aversive folks will love the views! 🤣 Seriously, though, the scenery is spectacular...and you can see some dinosaur footprints. Sunset or sunrise would be great times to visit Skyline Drive.

Beautiful views, very narrow road that was sometimes scary. Husband loved it I on the other hand would of liked some more room on either side of the truck as we drove, lol!

Amazing drive. First time our Jeep tour took us on the drive. Loved the views that we had to go back. You drive 10-15mph so you can take in the view. I felt very safe as it was one way and everyone driving slow. We enjoyed both the drives. Took lots of pictures.

A narrow but fun drive along a ridge overlooking Canon City. Great for sunrise/sunset or just a nice drive. Not for people with strong fear of heights!

Beautiful views. I was the passenger so didn't have to worry about driving us off the cliff to our deaths. Mike had to have his eyes and attention focused on driving the narrow one way road. There are pull outs you can stop at for photo ops and for the driver to take in the views fully. Not for inexperienced drivers or those fearful of heights.

Great views on this one way, narrow road. We were happy there were areas where we could park and enjoy. Highly recommend!

This is a MUST DO if you visit Canon City / Royal Gorge. The views are spectacular, and it's a blast to drive along the top of a ridge.

Ok people if you would like to scare the hell out of yourself and enjoy it too take the drive. Personally it's not too scary however my other half dang near pee'd herself. Great views of the area, just do it.

A friend told us about this ride, it was the most dangerous road i have driven on. As a driver u really can't enjoy the scenic view while driving, but it tests your driving skills. The path is so narrow that a couple of inches on either way, u end up on the dirt, no guard rails either. So enter at your own risk.

Jack and Dana from Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Jack and I loved our guides we were the oldest couple in our group. Emily and Tristan were very patient with us and made sure that all of our group knew the safety precautions. Zip Lining is much fun. It was my first time to go zip lining and I loved every minute of it.

If you are headed to the Royal Gorge or just in the area, this is a great time. What an awesome one way road on the mountain ridge with a wonderful view. We had been before and our daughter was driving and didn't know what was ahead - it was hilarious. Her 5 yr old was laughing at her the whole time..

This road is something to do if you are near. We drove without stopping at any of the pull offs and it only added about 15-20 min to our drive back to Colorado Springs. It is a one way road with no room for error is most places. A very cheap thrill for the whole car. Several places it looks like the road just droppes of the face of the earth.

A Beautiful, one-way scenic drive. Highly recommend!! You'll see cool dinosaur prints, too! A short but lovely look at the area.

Go white water rafting at Arkansas River Tours and then leave using this one way road. Scary amazing drive for FREE. DO it!

I am afraid of heights and was scared to go as a passenger in our pick-up along this 2 mile stretch of road, but my husband - the driver - absolutely loved it. The views are fantastic and make it worth it, but I was a bit nervous for quite a bit of the drive. Fortunately, I trust my husband’s driving, and he understood how worried I was, so he took it nice and slow, making it bearable. Worth a drive, if you’re in the area (and don’t have anything larger than a pick-up).
The trepidation ahead of the drive was worse than actually doing it.

Not for the fainthearted. Fear of heights? Don’t do it! No guard rails. No fear of heights? This is an amazing short drive that should not be missed!

This is a quick little one-way scenic drive that gives you a beautiful view of Canon City and the valley area. There are some trails that you can walk on, although we didn't take the time due to our travel schedule. We did stop and look at the dinosaur tracks and information boards on them. Very Interesting! Definitely worth doing if you enjoy this sort of thing. A short stop and way to "smell the flowers" on your journey.

As we went up on Skyline drive, my wife send “let’s turn around.” Well guess what, you can’t! The we gained some altitude the road seems to get fairly narrow and there is a drop off on both sides. The view is beautiful but a bit scary. Don’t leave Cañon City until you have tried this. It’s fun!

Very narrow drive with cliffs all around. Great views of the town. Some cool fossils and a few places to stop and get out to take pictures.

A short drive, with awesome views and some dinosaur tracks to check out! Make sure that your driver is not faint of heart though!

If you go to Canon City, this is a MUST!!!!!!! Absolutely breathtaking. We went after supper and was able to stay and see the sunset and the lights of Canon City.

Great views and interesting place to see all of Canon City! The hog backs are a very cool rock formation.

Quite an experience and view and best of all.....it's free! Drove it 3 times. Not much more to say than that.

Single one way lane which offers amazing views of the area. Has a couple areas you can pull off for pictures. Free to drive through.

This was one of those “I’m glad we did that, but we don’t need to do it again” rides. The view is spectacular (which is really what the ride is all about) especially if you are the passenger. I was driving, so to say I was a bit fixated on the pavement in front of me is a mild understatement. The road is a one-way road that rides a rocky ridge, and it is not wide, and you definitely would not want the tires to go off-payment. My wife gives this a 5 star (she wins), I give it a 4 star just because it took me a bit to unclench when we were done.

If you live in or around Canon City, or just visiting, you have to try Skyline Drive. This road was built right on the peak of the ridge so you can see both sides of the mountains at once. Be brave though, the road is one lane wide.

It was a fantastic view on a very unique "road" that was so easy to get to. There are pull off parking areas along the way and short trails to get better views. Just a 2 minute diversion off of the main road makes it one you don't want to miss.

We do this ride every few months and always take guests. Great views and even dinosaur tracks to see.

Scary! This narrow one way road carries you above Cañon City for a spectacular view. The road is so narrow there is very...very very little room on either side of the car. Once you’re on it, there’s no turning back! We will NOT do that again!

A perfect drive if you have an extra 10-15 minutes to spare! There are several pull off spots to get out and look!

The views from the drive are amazing! It only takes a few minutes and is free! Worth the time if you are looking for an easy adventure.

My brother recommended this while we were in Colorado on vacation. I wasn't sure what to expect and boy was I surprised by the outcome. It was a thrilling ride and I'm glad I got to experience it.

Brilliant views, well worth the extra few minutes it takes instead of the highway. After reading reviews of heights and how narrow things were, I was a little nervous to take our Yukon XL on this road but it was not a problem. It's one way, the road is plenty wide and there are several areas to pull over and take in the views. Free, not out of the way, and far more interesting than the highway. Don't miss it, it's worth it.

This is a bit scary if you're from the flatlands of Texas like us! It's very narrow and very steep. It is also very scenic and very beautiful. Take a camera. We went later in the day but it seems morning would be perfect for sunrise photos and views.

One way over the skyline, great evening activity, We observed several people running, walking and biking over the skyline.

It was okay and didn’t take long. A few stop off points, but they really weren’t worth it. If you are in the area I would do it, but I wouldn’t go out of my way.

Not a highway nor a secondary road, this quite safe but soooo much narrower one-way road is such a thrill you'll wand to go around and drive it again ! Which is easily done.

One way narrow but paved road with stunning views of the mountains and Canon City. Several places to pull off and enjoy the views. Not for those afraid of heights…no guard rails and the road has drop offs on both sides at times. Stunning but a little scary!!

A short drive and the views are fantastic. Several pull over viewing sites. Well worth the 30 minutes or less

This is a 3-mile trip on a ridge above Canon City. I think it's the scariest road I've ever been on. It's about 8 feet wide and drops down on both sides. Not recommended for the faint at heart.

Beautiful view and interesting history but it was a terrifying drive with steep cliffs on both sides and incredibly sharp turns. I would never drive this myself.

Skyline Drive immediately north of Canon City on Hwy 50, is worth doing if you’re driving thru on your way to Royal Gorge or other western sights. I only gave it 3 stars because it is short, 2.6 miles.
Narrow, one lane road on a ridge top. Great views.

It’s free and can be seen any time of day or night. Go at night and chat with whomever is up there. You’ll meet locals and tourists enjoying the view. Drive slow and freak out your friends when it appears you’re about to drive directly into thin air!

This was worth the short drive out of town to look back down upon it and the surrounding area. Included are some dinosaur tracks (tough to spot) on a rock outcropping near the top. If you are afraid of heights, this might be scary. If you have small or adventurous children, keep them in the car as there are only a few places to stop and a step or three in the wrong direction could be very hazardous to your health.

This was freaky scary but enjoyable at the same time.
Really had no idea what to expect, but the drive was awesome

Really nice scenic drive across the ridge of a mountain. One way in and one way out. We were in an RV sprinter van and my son was driving and he said it was OK. A little scary but OK. We stopped at the very top and did a small hike. Took some beautiful panoramic pictures. It’s really worth the drive.

Fantastic view. Unbelievable experience that is safe but a little scary. Be sure to stop at the parking lot near the trailhead and walk for 5 minutes.

Wow! What a view! Our family took this narrow drive to the top. We parked and were able to get out and walk around. Would recommend this drive and it is free!

Somewhat nerve-racking in areas, but amazing views. Definitely be sure to do this while in Canon City!

My dog and I loved the drive, it’s a narrow-ish road I was comfortable the whole time and feel like even up to a full size sprinter van would be fine as well. Amazing views as well, went up to the top of the ridge by the parking area too.

Great views of the surrounding areas. Be prepared - the road is one way so it is a bit narrow and there are no guard rails. If you are nervous about heights it might be a bit much - it is a bit exposed. But definitely worth doing

This is a 7-mile one way road. If you get out and enjoy the views, this will take about 30 minutes to complete. You will access Skyline Drive heading west on HWY 50 just outside of Canon City. There are road signs that will assist you to find where it starts. If you have been on mountain trails, this is not to that magnitude but it is an enjoyable and fun drive. There tighter switchbacks on here so we had to drop the trailer to make the drive as they do not let anything longer than 20 feet on the road. The best part of the road is the ridge you ride on as you reach the top. Stop and enjoy. Skyline Drive ends back in Canon City. It is well worth doing if you are in the area.

This is a must! Great views, good hiking, free fun activity for all! Easy to find the entrance of this one way drive about 3 miles west of Canon City through the stone entry gate on the North side of the road.

Such a beautiful little drive, stunning views on both sides of you and way less intimidating than I expected. Definitely worth a stop!

We drove this after rafting and it was a wonderful experience! Great "cliffside" driving lol! But you can also hike around and the views are great too.

This is basically a narrow one-way road with areas that have an extreme drop off on both sides. Gorgeous view for those not afraid of heights. My husband was driving and said he did not get to enjoy the view, he was too focused on not getting too close to the edge. It only takes about 30 minutes, so if you have the stomach for it, it's a must see!

Highly recommend this fun short drive. Amazing views of the town and area. Very interesting and there are a few hiking trails.

This is an amazing drive but definitely not for the faint of heart! One lane, one way, no guardrails! So very high up it's unbelievable.
Who ever is driving better have their wits about them and focus. Breathtaking views! I guess I'll rate it as Excellent as my family loved it, and we didn't drive off the edge to our deaths.
Beautiful but scary!
If you don't like heights, skip it... If you don't mind heights, have fun on this drive but be careful!! Don't miss the small sign that shows where the dinosaur footprints are! It is one way so when you start you are on that road to the end! We laughed through the ride because the driver was a bit nervous due to the heights!
