Absolutely a must see!!

By Paul G |

We were able to return this year after visiting last year as well. Was thrilled to be able to attend the 12 noon mass!!

Beautiful but crowded

By MacKenzie Pereira |

Beautiful but crowded. I couldn’t get close enough to read about the saints. I think it would be interesting to go back for a service.

most beautiful cathederal.

By Gary P |

This is the most beautiful cathedral. I just walked thru the cathedral and looked at all the side altars with the different saints.
Went to mass. This is a must see when visiting new york city

Beautiful Church

By butterflydiva7 |

Beautiful Church in the heart of NYC
Lovely to look around, the only thing is that they allow it during mass which is a bit odd
Try to go between services

Breathtaking cathedral

By BeckyB46156 |

This cathedral is breathtaking! The stained glass windows were amazing with the sunlight shining through. We were there during mass and the singing sounded beautiful. Must see!

Stunning and pristine

By MJH1 |

Impressive building, not as gilded as some you’ll visit but immaculate
I guess it’s not as old as many but it’s design and stained glass windows made it feel much more ancient
That said, immaculate inside
Back to back masses occurring which was interesting for me as an agnostic
Worth the visit for sure

Bishops Seat - Three ways to visit

By CraftBeers |

Cathedrals are always beautiful and enjoyable to visit. They are marvels to consider how they are built. This church is able to be called a Cathedral because the Bishops seat is physically located here. You can see it on the left side of the dais.

To tour the cathedral, there are three ways: Free, video guide and VIP.

The free approach is to just walk through the front doors and look at the sights. You do not have to pay to walk around. Areas you may not access are roped off. There will always be a crowd of people coming and going.

The self-guided video tour costs $25 per person. You'll get an ipad and headphones. They will explain when the building was constructed and what's what. They will point out the significance of certain statutes, carvings or stained glasses. The bishop's seat is explained as well as several other key facts. You do not get access to restricted areas with this fee. In general, I probably would not be interested in this at $25. $10 maybe.

The VIP is $99 per person. There is only one tour per day at 10:30 AM, and only 7-10 people total are allowed. You must have advanced reservations and be properly dressed. They let you in the back door. The director of media gives a personal tour. It starts in restricted areas where others cannot go: sacristy, burial vault, and the bishops private sacristy. You will see their private robes, cap and crosier. They actually let you hold the crosier for a photo op. The tour then continues by using the hidden stairs that take you up into the church on the dais. Pictures are allowed there where the rest of the crowds may not go.

I really enjoyed the VIP and seeing the hidden parts of the church.

Great place to visit to escape the wilderness of NY

By Habiba C |

Lovely cathedral, reminds me almost of St Paul’s Cathedral in the middle of London. There were mass services ongoing throughout the day and a memorial to Pope Francis, which was quite somber a mood. The two security guards in the photo were super friendly, very warm to welcome and chat to us. Also the staff checking bags- all extremely friendly and welcoming. I’d recommend a visit, even if a fleeting one like mine.

There is some refurbishment work taking place to repair the organ. Side note only, nothing which affected us at all.

Beautiful Architecture

By Laura H |

This church is magnificently beautiful. All of the alcoves with the different Saints, are beautiful. The one thing I don't find beautiful are the credit card kiosks asking for $5, $10 or $20 donations.

One of the New York City greats

By Kittygal 🇺🇦 🌻 |

I stopped in for midday mass on a busy Friday of exploring. As always, it was serene yet imposing at the same time.

On my last few visits, there was scaffolding everywhere, but after three long years away, I could once again enjoy the views that are familiar from years of watching movies, Bishop Sheen TV shows as a child, and more.

Always a good visit.

Lovely.

By Hatmyr |

Great Cathedral. Was Mass when I was there.
Check the bags, security check.
Have to pay money to light the lights.
A lovely place

Linda Catedral.

By Bianca Blaezer |

The cathedral is located on the famous Fifth Avenue, very beautiful and well ⁇ ined, free entrance and always with some activity, be it Mass or wedding.
It's the chance to meet the church that turns and moves appears in movies.

1st Visit

By TRACY M |

Love to visit old cathedrals and churches. This is no exception, so beautiful and rich in history. I wish we had more time to spend inside but getting as much in as possible on 1st visit. We will plan a longer trip.

Enthralling Cathedral in Midtown Manhattan

By Paul Legate |

St. Patrick's Cathedral is a dominant building located between Madison Avenue and Fifth Avenue with the its frontage opposite Rockefeller Center.

The Catholic cathedral is the seat of the Archbishop of New York and is also a parish church. It was designed by James Renwick Jr and is of Gothic Revival architectural style. Construction of the cathedral started in 1858 but because of the American Civil War wasn't completed until 1878 with its doors opening in 1879.

It is very impressive inside with a profusion of stained glass windows giving it a bright and uplifting feel. It is an enthralling building and is worth a visit whilst in New York.

Beautiful Church

By Simon |

Absolutely beautiful Church. Attended for the Sunday Mass which was lovely. The singer was brilliant.

NEOCLASSICAL CATHEDRAL

By Felix S |

St. Patrik’s is the Cathedral of New York, located in the best area of Fifth Avenue, highlights the height of its towers and how large it is, you can visit it for free
Highly recommended

Perhaps the most beautiful church in the country.

By jgbtravels |

Is there another church in the U.S. as beautiful as this? Perhaps not. It’s a majestic presence in New York and close to Rockefeller Center. As impressive as the outside is the inside is absolutely gorgeous. Of course it offers you a place to sit, relax and cool off in the hot summer. And for those who are religiously inclined a place to reflect pray and get closer to God. You feel humbled in the towering and massive structure. Do remember to be respectful of those who are attending mass as we are merely tourists in their house of worship.

Great experience

By angelica i |

Cathelen was our tour guide. She was wonderful. Very informative. I learned a lot of the Cathedral. Visited places that are not open to public. I feel now I want to learn more about it. It was a great experience.

Impressive Gothic cathedral

By neeratraveler |

St.Patrick’s cathedral on 5th Avenue is a very impressive Gothic cathedral. It is calm and very beautiful with its many stained glass windows. I walked around and sat for a few minutes to take it all in.

Monumental peace.

By OscarAbella |

St. Patrick's Cathedral is an oasis of serenity in the midst of the urban bustle. Its architectural majesty and tranquil atmosphere offer a spiritual respite from the city.

Stunning

What a stunning building! We were mesmerised by it and stood looking at the design details for so long. During our NYC stay we went back several times just to take it all in again

Beautiful Gothic Revival Architecture

By TravelingSoccerLoon |

Beautiful church located on 5th Avenue in Midtown Manhattan near Rockefeller Center. Worth a look inside if you are in this part of town. Open to the public. Donations are requested but not required. Completed in 1879, St Patrick's is the seat of the Archdiocese of New York City and is the largest Gothic Revival Catholic church in North America.

Lovely Cathedral

By Helen J |

Staff were really welcoming and spent time telling you information about the cathedral's history. Thank you!

St Patrick’s Worth the Visit

By Michelle |

The cathedral is stunning the recorded tours are great some of the items on the tour don’t work but overall we loved the tour. Just stunning architecture, stain glass windows and flooring

You can't stop going...

By Lacobrigense |

Our trip to Dublin would not be complete without a visit to the cathedral dedicated to the patron saint of Ireland, without a doubt one of the city's most popular attractions.
We had been wanting to do this visit for a long time, so we decided to do what is traditional when going to a place we don't know: “buy a guided tour”.
For those who love history like we do, the Portuguese speaking guide is the best thing to do in Portugal.
A very good explanation, I made the recording and I will try to explain the visit in a few words.
The building, dated between 1220 and 1260, was built next to the place where it is believed that the saint baptized believers - a beautiful place inside and out, full of history, relics and also where the remains of several personalities rest.
Dean of the church between 1713-1745, Jonathan Swift, the author of “Gulliver's Travels”, is one of those buried in the church. This, in fact, is one of the reasons that most visitors come to the site, where it is possible to see up close objects such as Swift's death mask, a bookshelf containing some important works and even a pulpit belonging to the author, which started to be used by the cathedral.
You can't stop going...

Breath taking !

By Bohemian_me84 |

I come from Europe with many old church buildings around , traveling North America I have hard time to find that breath taking architecture … I am glad we step inside this one . It’s breath taking , entrance is free with donation or even with out donation , there is gift shop and you can light up a candle in intention of your choice . You can take photos with out flash .

Entering the Gates of Heaven.

By Conny Wylie |

St. Patrick's Cathedral is a catholic cathedral in the mid-town Manhattan neighborhood of NYC. It is massive as it occupies a city block bounded by Fifth avenue, Madison, 50th and 51st streets and in spite of it's attractive power, it is an active parish. I visited St. Patrick's to appreciate it's Gothic Revival architecture.....impressive. As I entered the cathedral I was enthralled with the stained glass, the opulent alter and 'the way of the cross' statuettes. The environment enticed me to say a Hail Mary and light a candle for my Mother who was a devout catholic.

Beautiful church

By Diane B |

Very glad to see this is still open to public as it is beautiful. Tourists were very respectful and it is a delight.

A symbol of faith!

By Daniel A |

St. Patrick means a lot to me as a person of Irish decent. He is a symbol of hope and freedom to all the Irish across the globe. I'd love to attend the annual celebrations of the Patron saint whenever opportunity arrises!
It is fascinating to see this cathedral, rivaling the ones in Germany, England, France, and even Spain in the heart of New York. Simply marvelous!

The gothic Architecture

By Pete |

It’s the building with the “can’t miss” gothic architecture. The website mentions two famous people associated with the cathedral, Babe Ruth and Vince Lombardy, which I read in their respective biographies. However, I really thought I read something about LaGuardia being associated with it. I used my visit to light and say prayers at the prayer candle stations.

Beautifully decorated for Christmas free entry

By Burdej |

Enjoyed reading about the saints and looking at the beautiful Christmas trees. Tranquil with candles available to light in remembrance for $ 2

Lovely building

By John C |

busy, lovely well kept cathedral. I have seen numerous nicer and bigger cathedrals in Europe but this is still worth a visit.

A very nice cathedral

By Kevin S |

A very nice cathedral, quite striking externally but not on the grand scale of significant European cathedrals internally. Some good stained glass windows and several altars internally but not comparable to the best but very striking externally sat amongst high rise buildings.

Beautiful, worth a visit

By guido s |

Among the skyscrapers of Rockefeller Centre, the Cathedral certainly does not go unnoticed. There is the possibility of participating in the Catholic Mass in English or Spanish.

Beautiful cathedral

By Serge Ydo |

The Roman Catholic Saint-Patrick's Cathedral is located on Fifth Avenue, off 50th Street. It is one of the most important church buildings in the USA. The cathedral is the seat of the Archbishop of New York. The church was built in the period 1858-1878 .. the two high pointed towers were completed in 1888. These are over 100 meters and were at the time the tallest buildings on Manhatten. Hard to imagine because now most buildings in the area rise high above the cathedral. The Saint Patrick replaced an earlier cathedral of the same name, built in the period 1809-1815, located on a different location. This previous cathedral still exists and is now often called the Old Cathedral. It serves as a parish church. The new cathedral was designed by architect James Renwick Jr. (1818-1895). The architectural style is neo-Gothic. The exterior is beautiful. Impressive bronze entrance doors, beautiful towers. Also the interior is spectacular .. many side chapels, very nice stained glass windows, beautiful pulpit, high vaults. Don't forget to check out the impressive Piéta, in the back of the church.

Beautiful space

By Mike H |

Wonderful architecture and beautiful surroundings made for a wonderful time of meditation. I can't wait to return and attend a Mass there.

Must See!

By GoPlaces31627690385 |

So beautiful! We happen to visit on Sunday, December 1 and attended the first Sunday in Advent Christmas service. The organ fills the church and so angelic! The stain glass, the intricate details are amazing! The manager scene is incredible! You can respectfully enter the church and walk around, no reservations required and no fee. A truly incredible experience! Highly recommend! The Lotte Hotel is across the street and also a must see!

Beautiful Architecture and History - Self Guided Tour is Great

Beautiful Architecture and History - Self Guided Tour is Great
The self guided tour cost about $25 pp - and provides you with a tablet ear buds and visitor credentials pass. Interesting and informative

Go Inside

By Went To America |

I’ve been to New York 5 times and this most recent time is the first time I’ve been inside St Patrick’s Cathedral and would now say you can’t walk past without going inside, even if it’s only for 5 minutes.

It’s as spectacular on the inside as it looks from the outside, you can walk around and view the history of the building, light a candle for a loved one and there’s also a gift shop. It’s a welcome respite to the busy Fifth Avenue.

The largest Catholic cathedral in the United States

By 𝐴𝑛𝑔𝑒𝑙𝑜 𝐷'𝐴𝑔𝑜𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑜 🇮🇹 |

Dedicated to Saint Patrick, whose name reveals his Irish Catholic origin, it was built in the second half of the nineteenth century directly on Fifth Avenue. Absolutely unprecedented to see its characteristic neo-Gothic appearance in contrast with the very modern skyscrapers, a decidedly beautiful image. Internally it is enormous and is inspired by European Gothic cathedrals, although it does not reach their artistic grandeur.

St. Patrick's Cathedral

By K.L.D |

Very beautiful building, the architecture is remarkable and well preserved, a must when you go to New York

Stunning...

By RnWP |

Beautiful building and be sure to go inside, even for a short time. Stunning interior and well worth seeing.

Stunning church

By lizakq |

It's a beautiful gothic church with stunning architecture. You should added to your list of things to see while visiting NYC.

Stunning Cathedral!

By Jack |

St. Patrick’s Cathedral is a must visit in NYC. The Cathedral is huge! Right along Fifth Avenue, St. Patrick’s Cathedral is gorgeous, and in my opinion, the best Cathedral in America. I could not recommend more.

Nice indeed

By Birgitta-Kenneth |

One of these old gothic cathedrals with very beautiful ornaments and it is well worth a visit if you are interested in old cathedrals.

A must see unique experience.

By Kisha C |

I’ve been to NYC multiple times and was looking for unique things to do. St. Patrick’s Cathedral was not only unique but impressively beautiful and the self guided audio tour was filled with interesting facts about the history of the church. Just fascinating. They give you free headphones, adapter, and a map. Do yourself a favor and book this tour. For $20/person you can’t go wrong!

Beautiful guest choir performance in a stunning cathedral

By Lalo765 |

We attended a choir concert in this beautiful cathedral. The music was awesome - the architecture a huge bonus! Check "music" and "concerts" listings on their website for guest choir performances.

Beautiful church on St Patrick’s day

By Mark L |

We were there t. Patrick’s weekend and it was busy but so large it was accessible for everyone. Very pretty and well maintained. Great place to see the art of the church and get a sense of the reverence this place has

The money changers are back in force.

By Warwick H |

They never stopped begging for money. At every alcove. Took the enjoyment off the visit to be constantly harangued to donate.

Beautiful building near Rockefeller Centre

By SamMeeBou |

Beautiful building. Take a gander while you are checking out Rockefeller Centre. Very beautiful and ornate. Didn't go inside. Beautiful floral arrangement around the entrance.

Great Experience!

By mjblue |

Stumbled upon St. Patricks Cathedral upon our walk along 5th Ave. What a great institution. An immense presence in Manhattan. Fantastic architecture along with the stained glass windows and the huge pew / seating area. With the wife being Catholic made the visit much more meaningful.

Famous

By Hgtravl |

Beautiful & historic part of NYC! beautiful to see this church rising high among the modern skyscrapers. Take a moment to enjoy this historical part of NYC.

Holiday Tradition

By kgduffy72 |

It's become a tradition to go to St. Patrick's around Christmas, light a candle for a loved one and pray. No matter the religion, all are welcome to St. Patrick's and it's always well decorated.

Remarkable church, excessive merchandising

By ballinora4 |

Naturally, the cathedral is well worth a visit and is a very special place, sitting in the heart of Manhattan on 5th Avenue.

However, we were appalled at the level of merchandising inside the church. A store selling all sorts of cheap looking religious items, machines to imprint an image of the church on your coin, etc etc.

Unfortunately it is a tourist attraction more than a place of worship. One might say that the temple needs cleansing.

Architecturally beautiful - Quietly solemn

By Vlad R |

Despite the big crowds that come & visit, the staff is able to keep the solemnity of this Catholic Cathedral - specially when mass service is performed.

Light a candle for that special one

By John S |

It's a very large cathedral like something you only see in Germany or France. Quite impressive for the US. Worth a visit

Beautiful Architecture and Glass

By phat_dawg_21 |

This beautiful church is a must see attraction every time we visit NYC. It was jammed with worshipers and tourist when we stopped in on a Sunday afternoon.

A donation is now recommended.

Beautiful

By travelingal31 |

Beautiful cathedral. There is a quiet chapel behind the alter, with a glass door. Wonderful place to sit quietly, since the church is always busy with people.

Magnificent monument

By Emilie Stoupy |

The cathedral is magnificent! We were also able to participate in mass.
It's impressive like the city, the buildings have grown around such a monument.

Huge!

By lde457 |

I opted out of the (paid) guided/audio tour and wandered around on my own instead. It's colossal inside and very beautiful. I didn't particularly appreciate the recorded chant which was being played - especially as it was from a Requiem Mass... It's a weird experience when you go back outside as the church is dwarfed by surrounding skyscrapers.

A must see

By Jackie |

what a lovely and interesting building this is. The architecture of the cathedral takes your breath away. Even though there was a very lot of visitors going in and out it was so peaceful inside. it is well worth a visit

Amazing Cathedral

By George M |

A very moving place, regardless of your creed. It is well maintained and kept very clean and it is worth visiting. A lot of history in just one place

Cathedral to visit

By newsey |

A must-see monument in NY. On 5th Avenue, she knows how to get noticed. It is magnificent both indoors and outdoors. Building to visit without a doubt.

Gothic at its Best!

By ArrowVoyager |

This Church is actually breathtaking. The Gothic architecture is unforgettable. Even the doors are admirable. Always welcoming to anyone. Wish there were more places like this!

Hands-down Highlight of NYC Trip

By Jacqi D |

Do the VIP Guided Tour!!! It was the highlight of our whirlwind trip to NYC, exceeding expectations. This is a unique, inspiring and humbling experience. There is nothing like a local parish guide (hope you get Randall who I dubbed St. Tour Guide for his patience and grace with other tour group members) AND the opportunity to see (basement) parts off-limits to regular visitors AND hear the fascinating insider stories. We paid $99 each and it all went to support the cathedral. (Sidenote: we have been blessed to be able to give a bit more in offering. Hope church keeps tour price point this accessible. Group pre-registration was limited to just 10. ... That said, I enjoyed this far more than pricier tickets to Christmas Rockettes though Wicked musical was fun. We were blessed and have been changed for the better, by this unexpectedly special tour.)

Pretty church.

By Jolie J |

Pretty church but not the most beautiful I've seen. It was also quite crowded by tourists but I decided to attend mass which was less busy and gave me some time to rest and observe. No need to pay for a tour.

Beautiful, spiritual experience!

By Martha R |

The last time I was at the Cathedral there was a lot of restoration going on. Everything was beautiful. You really need to spend some time to see the architecture, the stained glass windows, and partake in Mass, it is very special. The choir was beautiful!

How to go home

By Lorenzo P68 |

I believe that part of the notoriety of this immense neo-Gothic Cathedral is that it represents an unexpected presence along 5th Avenue. Once we cross the threshold we almost feel like we are "coming home" to Europe and then return to American reality once we leave, at the sight of Rockefeller Center.

Gorgeous Cathedral

By Jennifer S |

I wish we had time to tour inside. The outside architecture is so beautiful. You must stop by! In city center, easy to walk to

The Cathedral

By Andres72423 |

What an amazing Cathedral. S as you walk in you can help but be in are off this magnificent church. As you walk in they have various statute of saints, a Nativity session among other religious items. As you walk from section to the other you are able to light a candle in honor of whichever Saint you like. I personally light a candle every year for Saint Jude who has been an inspiration to me. They allow you to sit and kneel at the press which I like to do, just to offer a few personal prayers. I definitely would like to come back and attend a Sunday service.

Beautiful church

By Max P |

I popped in while walking around. It is a beautiful space. It is located not far from Rockefeller Center.

An oasis in the big city

By 845tommy |

It is one of the largest Catholic cathedrals in the world. Its neo-Gothic architectural style and the intricate decorations inside are truly beautiful. It is not a so-called "tourist temple." It is a place of pious prayer where mass is held several times every day. You can enter during mass, but please be quiet. The sound of the pipe organ is also soothing. There is no admission fee. You can enter the cathedral after a simple baggage inspection. If I ever return to New York, this is the first place I would like to visit.

Beautiful for Sunday Mass

By Laura D |

Went for Sunday morning Mass my second day in NYC and it was beautiful. The last time I'd seen it, there was a lot of construction/renovation happening, so this time I was even more blown away by its majesty and beauty.

An oasis of calm

By 241anon |

So peaceful and calming. A beautiful cathedral, providing a space and opportunity to sit and reflect.

MAGNIFICENT

By David S |

Truly magnificent building both inside and out. My wife and I visited New York for two days as part of a larger cruise tour and really enjoyed the chance to visit this amazing religious site. Free to enter but donations are encouraged. While we where there a mass was ongoing and the opportunity to observe it close up was both touching and emotional. The cathedral is quite easy to find being Midtown just past Times Square and close to the Rockafeller Center.

Highly recommend!

By sartin23 |

Our guide, Anthony, was terrific! He took our group on a detailed tour through the church and shared interesting facts about the church's history in New York, as well as some of the meaningful contributions made by its church leaders. I highly recommend this tour if you have a couple of hours set aside for it. It is definitely worth your time!!

Sunday mass

By Reslimpan |

Stopped in at the cathedral on a Sunday morning about the same time as the mass started. The cathedral was pretty packed with people who was there for the sermon. The cathedral is very impressive from an architectural standpoint and well worth a visit.

Tranquil

By TwitterEngland |

Although I’ve been to NYC many times I had never had the time to visit the Cathedral. I was pleased I managed it this time.
Very calm peaceful place as you’d expect.

Amazing

By cornwall666 |

An incredible building with amazing acoustics; we were lucky enough for the organ to be playing when we visited - a must visit.

Maybe another time.

By Chris H |

I really wanted to love this, but the audio tour we got on the iPads were all different! We were effectively a group but not on the same tour. This was such a lost opportunity.

Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin

By Sarada Bonnett |

Saint Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin is a captivating blend of architectural grandeur and historical significance. The soaring spires and intricate details of this iconic landmark create a striking silhouette against the Dublin skyline. Stepping inside, the interior's vastness and elegance inspire a sense of reverence. The cathedral's rich history, including its connections to Saint Patrick, is artfully displayed through exhibits. Whether you're drawn by its religious importance or architectural beauty, Saint Patrick's Cathedral is a must-visit, offering a serene escape in the heart of Dublin.

Beautiful cathedral

By scrunchy17 |

After seeing this cathedral from the outside on our first visit to NYC, the tour was high on my list of things I wanted to do. Finally made it there on our third trip to NYC and it was worth the wait. We did the audio tour through the app and I enjoyed both the tour and the expansive beauty of the inside of St Patrick's Cathedral. It was especially nice to visit at Christmastime with the decorations and nativity scene. The architecture is amazing and I would recommend this tour.

Outstandingly beautiful

By Lisa |

This cathedral is breathtakingly beautiful. Loved our visit recently. Cannot believe it was actually free entry. A must see!

Nice Place

By olivias33 |

This church was still nicely decorated after Christmas. You can walk around the whole entire area, sit in the pews, light a candle or even take a tour of it.

Calming walk through

By COGirl68 |

Truly beautiful church. Lit a couple of candles to honor and say prayers for my deceased in-laws. Thanks and glory be to God that this majestic building still stands in this bustling city.

Excellent Place to Visit

By Gene K |

Stopped at the Cathedral during a walking tour of New York City. First time that I had been inside. All are welcome to visit, even if a service is underway. I highly recommend spending some time there.

St Patrick’s is an active community church not just attraction!

By Paradise36016988019 |

St Patrick’s is incredibly beautiful and absolutely worth seeing IF you can get in! We purchased the audio tour x 2. The first time we got there was a funeral and the whole church was cordoned off, we came back later and the church was partially cordoned off for another funeral and then fully cordoned off to make time for a wedding rehearsal. I recommend going but don’t waste your money for any tour until you get there and find out the church is having no life events. No money back policy! Life happens and this is an active community church not just a beautiful tourist attraction.

Awe-inspiring

By Dimitris L |

St Patrick's is a large Cathedral and its Gothic architecture is awe-inspiring, as are most other cathedrals we have seen in Europe. It is a beautiful building and we were fortunate enough to go inside during mass. We only spent a few minutes inside but it was enough to appreciate the enormity and beauty of the place.

Stunning Church

By tony c |

Beautiful church in midtown Manhattan. You can walk in and light a candle or just look around this stunning church.

Beautiful cathedral

By Sebastien_D54 |

We went to visit St Patrick's Cathedral during our stay in New York. The exterior architecture of the Cathedral is truly beautiful and striking compared to that of the much more modern surrounding buildings. We took a tour inside, everything is really beautiful: the vaults, the ornaments, and extremely well maintained for a place that sees so much passing. On the other hand, there were far too many people to fully appreciate this visit.

The Private Tour is a MUST!

By michelle m |

Do not miss the private guided tour with Randall. He is brilliant, knowledgeable, funny and can relate to people of all ages. My 15 year old son went reluctantly and loved it, in large part because Randall made it fascinating. I loved everything we saw and learned about the Cathedral.

Beautiful cathedral

By lbyrne99 |

Beautiful building . Well worth a look inside . A quiet sanctuary in the midst of nyc . Nice photo opportunity from across the street

Beautiful cathedral, book the guided tour!

By Teresa S |

We did a guided tour through the church, and it was well worth it! Anthony took the time to help us see the church through the years and understand the history as well as the beautiful artistry of this amazing parish. This is definitely worth it!

World Class Cathedral in NYC

By KJ D |

Beautiful cathedral in NYC. You can stay a day, an hour, or walk through in 15 minutes, but you do need to stop at here when visiting

America's Parish Church

By Jim G |

We visited St. Patrick’s Cathedral twice during our stay in New York City. Our first was a walk through during a weekday. The flowers surrounding the main entrance were beautiful and the side altars bring to mind ethnic and spiritual devotions. The high altar is spectacular and the adoration chapel provides an opportunity for quiet prayer.

Our second visit was for 10:15 Sunday Mass. Although Cardinal Dolan was on pilgrimage, the presiding bishop proved an exceptional substitute as he enthusiastically challenged us to draw more deeply into the Faith: Believe, Accept and Respond. The choir and organist contributed to a beautiful Mass.

I strongly recommend Catholics attend Mass at St. Patrick’s, America’s parish church. Those only seeking an artistic enlightenment ought to walk through also.

Visit spoilt by rudeness in souvenir shop

By sue j |

A beautiful peaceful majestic building . Marred by rude impatient assistant in souvenir shop who was awful inthe way she communicated to us . Spoilt the whole experience

Highlight of the trip

By December traveler |

St. Patrick's is a must see if you're Catholic, and even if you're not! There are so many beautiful things to see and discuss with your children. Candles to light and also masses to attend.

It is located on the 5th avenue, where perhaps the liveliest and most luxurious shops of the city are located. Its construction started in 1858 and was opened for worship in 1878. It stands out with its impressive beauty with its magnificent architecture and structure among the huge skyscrapers. You will definitely pass by it while wandering around, it is an exquisite architectural structure whose exterior is very special and striking, and whose interior is extremely worth seeing. Located right across from Rockefeller Center, good sightseeing

Always grand

By Sandy R |

Visited to recapture previous indulgence inside this magnificent building. Not disappointed. Just sit in a pew and look around.

Stunning

By Peter Mc 67 |

Went to visit to light a candle for our recently passed Dad.
Stunning architecture & a beautifully serene place to spend a few moments.

Maravilhosa. Must visit

By Gabriellabrandao |

One of the most beautiful churches ever. The first day I went was quite empty and I could walk around and see the altars. Highlight for the high of Padre Pio with Santo Antonio on the right side of the church.
On the second day the church was crowded and I saw a wedding. Seeing the organ playing is too beautiful. The church is impressive one of the most beautiful q I have ever visited.
Wonderful

Worth knowing!

By Wagner Corrêa |

The cathedral is really beautiful, it's worth visiting. The day we went, we witnessed a wedding. It was really special!

Beautiful architecture, lovely prayerful environment

By Natalie1204 |

St Patrick’s Cathedral or #catedralSanPatricio in mid town manhattan is a catholic cathedral of the archdiocese of #NewYork

However it’s doors are always open - and it has more than five million visitors of different nationalities and faiths come in through those open doors. The fact that more than one million prayer candles are it is also indicative that people come to open their hearts here and seek prayer, not just as tourists.

I was so excited to see a statue of Saint Teresa of Calcutta. Being from the city, this really warmed my heart.
.Once inside those six thousand pound doors, you will also see works by Michelangelo and Raphael, beautiful altars and dedications to Our Lady of Guadalupe, William Partridge's Pieta, prior Archbishops, etc

Dedicated in 1879, The cathedral has an interesting mission. Just like it’s doors are always open, it invites patrons to also always open their hearts and welcome Jesus in 🙏🏼

Divine Visit

By Marco Wanderlei |

An unforgettable place to visit and have a divine encounter. The Cathedral is a spot that cannot fail to be visited very special!

An awesome Church to visit!

By Bryce S |

On Saturday, I attended the 5:00 PM Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. It is a huge Church that has been beautifully restored. There is a security check when you enter. It is very discrete and polite. The onsite staff does a very good job of both respecting the sanctity of the Mass and also realizing it is a site tourists will want to see.

The Church has a large central Altar at one end and a huge organ on a balcony at the other end. The side walls feature a series of small Altars which I think are marble.

It was a very good experience.

A beacon of light…

By Nomad |

…amidst an increasingly banal and bleak surrounding city. Upon entering you will feel the expansive beauty of this Gothic Revival cathedral lift your spirit.

We were awestruck...

By kaiscat |

What a treasure to behold just steps away from Rockefeller center. MEN- be aware you must remove hats to enter, and you will be asked to leave if you don't.

Very peaceful and tranquil

By Josh R |

A truly wonderful tranquil & peaceful place to visit during our holiday from the U.K, just had to be done a must on our to-do list, the quiet place in what must be the noisiest city in the world, the flower displays were amazing from mother nature & human hands, I sat peacefully to reflect in the lady chapel at the back of the cathedral, all of which just added to the new beginnings & hope we have every Easter because of the sacrifice the Lord made for us all 🙏

To visit

By sara f |

The St. Patrick’s Cathedral is one of New York’s most important religious and architectural landmarks. Located on Fifth Avenue, opposite the famous Rockefeller Center, it is one of the leading examples of neo-Gothic architecture in the United States, with its 100-meter-high twin towers, stunning stained glass windows, pointed arches and elaborate decorations that recall the great European cathedrals.
The interior is equally impressive, with wide naves, decorated altars, side chapels and an atmosphere of great solemnity. The cathedral is not only a place of worship, but also a popular tourist destination, which can be visited freely by tourists and worshippers.

Take a moment to look quietly at the “stained glass” windows.

By Karrempje |

Nice to see such a cathedral among all those skyscrapers. Went inside for some rest where a service was taking place. Your bag will be checked and you can continue walking. You can go around the back where you see that the “speaker” has large spotlights aimed at him. As if he is on stage. Which may be true in this church. The inside isn't too much to look at. We especially loved the stained glass. And we had some peace from the noise outside.

Gorgeous

By Louis F |

Gorgeous Cathedral with plenty of alcoves to check out. It was busy but I didn’t feel packed in. Worth checking out even if you aren’t religious. It is free to enter although there are donation boxes if you feel inclined.

Self guided tour

By Ellen K |

I reserved the self guided tour. I was unable to load the app that was sent to me. The indication was the app was too old to load on my phone. I went to the Cathedral and was told that the woman responsible for tours was out for the day and I was directed to the gift shop on east 51st street. There I was given an iPad which worked. The self guided tour is good. I have been to the Cathedral many times and I learned quite a bit.

VIP tour is excellent

By Janet B |

The VIP tour is worth every dime. Ginny, our guide, was excellent and this tour gives you the history and behind the “rope” places you don’t get to see otherwise. Five stars!

Un outlier

By Viajero_pajarero |

This neo-Gothic cathedral (only about 150 years old) stands out among the surrounding moles. Once the tallest construction in NY (its towers are 100 m high), it has now been dwarfed by its neighboring skyscrapers. This old-looking building (even though it isn't) is an architectural outlier in the middle of the big block. The view appreciates a little variety. Inside it's pretty bland.

Wonderful, peaceful building

By zoehannah |

A stunning building full of history, mystery and beauty. Free to visit but also well worth buying the audio tour too. Can spend about 1.5 hours in here, also services on daily

should take a look if you are in NYC

By ELKW |

it's a very big, and beautiful church, I think it the most people visited church in the New York City, but you need to go through security check before entering the church

A must do when in NEW YORK CITY

By BATMAN & CATWOMAN |

St. Patrick Cathedral is just an iconic and amazing structure representing the Catholic Faith. The transformation and reconstruction inside is remarkable. A must do when it New York City.

A great Church to visit

By Bryce S |

I recently attended Saturday evening Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan. Mass was excellent, however the Church is a sight to be seen too. The interior is awesome. The organ music is incredible.

There is security in the rear of the Church, but it is very low key and tactful.

Beautiful place to see

By MillsMama |

This is a working church so please be respectful when you enter. Absolutely gorgeous to see all the beautiful altars and pieces of art. I really like the explanations of the Saints at each altar too.

Great place

By The Baobab Republic |

Take a walk at the 5th Avenue and to visit all of the so famous place in New York, including St. Patrick's Cathedral and all other tourists attractions.

Do Not Miss 5:30 PM Runners Mass for NYC Marathon

By Loungesong |

If you are Catholic (or not) you have to go to Saturday evening mass before the NYC Marathon. It is always a highlight of our trip to NYC for the race. Sadly it is rare to see a large church this packed not on Christmas or Easter. The altar blessing after mass is special and the service is efficient with great music and a relatable homily. God Bless you all!

Beautiful

By Lesley V |

Visited St Patricks which is a beautiful and breath taking church. Also did the Catacombs by Candleklight under St Patrick's Bascilia. An interesting tour. Very informative. Great tour guide.

Moving

By Anne-Sophie |

Returning to this cathedral moved me greatly. It is very bright. It is a haven of peace in the frenzy of New New York.

St. Patrick’s Cathedral is inspiring

By Razorfish |

My wife and I visited NYC this past summer for our wedding anniversary. We walked by and admired St. Patrick’s Cathedral during our self guided walking tour of Midtown. It is beautiful architecturally. We didn’t take the time to go inside but just took several photos.

St. Patrick's Cathedral

By lithlith |

This Cathedral is massive! It's easy to get to mid-town and you can't miss it. It's also free to worship as well as be a tourist. Once inside, I recommend walking all the way around the Cathedral including behind the altar to see all of the little side chapels along the way.

Sisters NYC getaway.

By Gerri |

The cathedral is fabulous. The architecture is so beautiful. Lit our candles for our loved ones. Took the time to take it all in at every station. The stations of the cross on the walls are amazing. We toured one day and then went back for Sunday mass. The priest was great, very welcoming to all. Also greeted parishioners as they left. My only qualm would be that in every pew all along the pew, the money being asked for. It was a bit over the top. People will contribute what they can, if they can. Let that be. We were happy to contribute when both baskets came around for offerings but again all the scan to pay qr codes etc. made this very special holy place seem very commercial.

It is a must when in NYC .

By Drew L |

Great tour. So interesting and informative. Saw thing you can only see if you go on this tour. I took my 81 year old mother and it was perfect. It is real NYC history even if you are not Catholic. It is perfect for all!

Awe Inspiring

By JMagicfan |

Awe inspiring cathedral. I am not Catholic but was truly amazed and astonished at the beauty of this church. The days of such an ornate accomplishment in architecture and display of art will never return.

Come for the view, stay for the mass

By RayVuoleMangiare |

We walked in just to look around at the beautiful architecture just as mass was starting. So, we got a seat and enjoyed mass in this magnificent structure. Sound quality was really poor, so I could not really understand what the priest was saying. It was a nice service even though we could not hear a lot of it.

Lovely

By eagertraveller123 |

Lovely cathedral in the middle of the tall buildings and modern architecture. Very pretty nave and windows. Friendly staff

Look for Groupon Deals

By HappyFamily43082 |

I purchased Audio Cathedral Tours for Four through Groupon at a considerable savings. Otherwise, an audio tour purchased at the Cathedral is over-priced. You can walk through the Cathedral for free, but the audio tour does add interesting tidbits. As Protestants, my family learned a lot about Catholic history that was new to us. Sit in a pew when you can to listen to the commentary; your feet will thank you, but be aware of the metal kneelers on the prayer benches.

Beautiful

By Beanbag2013 |

Beautiful, but far too busy. As a place of worship would it not be better to restrict tourists to times when services are not on? Was shocked to see people wandering about taking photos when people were trying to pray. We left as soon as the service started to give worshipers some space. Donations for lighting a candle should be what people can afford not $2.

Don’t spend your money

By Michael F |

To walk through the cathedral is free of charge. Way too many people to adequately speak with someone to redeem your “self guided tour”.

Incredible!!!

By CathyP1953 |

What a beautiful House of God!!! The stained glass windows are so unique and breathtaking!!! I always go to this church while in NYC!! The easter roses and assorted flowers were just beautiful!!! Loved it!!!

Beautiful church.

By lshearn |

A beautiful neo gothic Catholic Church in NYC. This was my third time visiting the church. Every time I go inside I feel like I am in a European country.

St Pat’s……….

By HolidaymakerfromHove |

Free to visit. This is an amazing cathedral on 5th Avenue. Combine with a trip to Rockefeller Plaza.

We spent approximately half an hour here. We lit a candle.

Great photo opportunities and a little time for reflection. Lots to see. Don’t forget to look up.

Very highly recommended. Worth going out of your way for.

The architecture is breathtaking and a gem in the busy city of NYC

By Karl Walker |

Absolutely beautiful inside and out. A must see whether you are Catholic or not. The architecture is amazing. The inside is incredible. The marble alters, statues, nativity, State Christmas Tree, pillars, and agrandiose building. Makes you feel the presence of God... Come in and renew the spirit within. Pray, reflect, and remind yourself......
Jesus is truly the reason for the season. Blessings to all. Merry Christmas and a Happy Healthy New Year!

A beautiful cathedral located a few steps from the Rockefeller. The exterior is pretty. The interior is large and beautiful. I advise.

Speechless by its beauty

By delfinacuario2000 |

Stunning cathedral that leaves you speechless the moment you enter it. The architecture is beautiful and the building is very well maintained. Staff checks your bags upon entering and they are kind and polite. Located just across Rockefeller Center, easy to get there with several metros and buses. Totally worth it to visit!

America’s Parish Church

By Kevin M |

A truly breathtaking experience. We had the opportunity to celebrate Mass as well as sit in Eucharistic adoration in the Lady Chapel across a handful of visits during our time in the city. With it’s incredible marble architecture, side altars named after various saints, stained glass windows, and rich history, the cathedral has so much to offer.

Fantastic Journey

By carpediem2019 |

Fantastic tour. Randall was the perfect tour guide: informative, full of insight, good-humored, and respectful of the cathedral. It was such a wonderful experience to walk through and learn about the walls and figures within this majestic masterpiece. A truly special place in New York and a must-see sanctuary in the heart of Fifth Avenue that reminds us of our ephemeral passing through earth and the immortality of the soul.

Patrick's Cathedral

By RandomTraveller |

St. Patrick's Cathedral is a stunning Gothic landmark in Manhattan, with beautiful architecture and a peaceful interior. While it's a must-see, be aware you might encounter some beggars inside. Still, it offers a quiet escape from the city's hustle.

Free to visit

By GAR |

This palace of a cathedral is free to visit. I was lucky enough to visit during a mass, which really added to the atmosphere

Wonderful!

By Susan W |

This magnificent cathedral is a sacred and beautiful place. The tour was so interesting and informative.

Great self guided tour

By CHuffmanKC |

Great way to tour St Patrick’s. We enjoyed the ability to do the self guided tour at our own pace. Beautiful space. Well worth the time

Stunning Architecture and a Calmness in the city bustle

By Praneet Singh |

St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Fifth Avenue is one of those places that hits you the moment you walk in. The gothic architecture, the high vaulted ceilings, and the level of detail in every corner make it stand out even in a city full of landmarks.

Despite being right in the middle of Manhattan’s noise and traffic, the inside feels quiet, steady, and almost disconnected from the chaos outside. Whether you’re there for the history, the architecture, or just a few minutes of calm, it’s an easy spot to appreciate and absolutely worth stepping into.

Great to see such an iconic church

By Beachguy43 |

Would not have made a special trip just to see the cathedral but we were in the area so went in to see this location where so many noteworthy events have taken place. Beautiful

Aww Inspiring!

By Sandy Dill |

Visited St. Patrick's while visiting NY City and was in absolute aww of how beautiful the church is. They startered a mass while we were touring the church, so we got to have a catholic mass.

Incredible experience!

By Shortnik6 |

A friend recommended the private VIP tour and it was incredible. Our tour guide, Sophia, what was the wealth of information. Our group was very small, (only seven total), and only my husband and I are Catholic. She answered every question. She took us places into St. Patrick’s that the general public can’t get to. She explained so much history of the cathedral and the years it took to construct the building. We were able to tour the private altar with the relics. She took us to the burial crypts and talked to us about all the Cardinals laid to rest there. Sophia was a wealth of information. This is a must see for a trip to NYC!

Impressive cathedral with live organ music

By Jose Carlos G |

When we went to St. Patrick's Cathedral on our trip to New York (May 14-20) it just so happened that there was a live organ concert going on. It was on the afternoon of Friday, May 17. Entering a cathedral like this, with so much tradition and that I have seen in so many movies, and with the addition of organ music, was even more impressive. Because of the concert there were a lot of people but we didn't get overwhelmed. We liked the visit.

Always stunning

By StephenCross |

St.Patrick’s Cathedral is located on the Famous 5th Avenue in NY. Cross streets are 50th. It’s always stunning to view.

Guided Tour - Not Informational

By Megan D |

The Cathedral is breathtaking and glad we were able to walk around in areas not open to the public. But the guided tour was not informational - rather filled mostly with the tour guides own experiences with other tour groups and stories of her personal life. We were expecting a knowledge-packed tour, but instead had to constantly ask questions to get some answers. The self-guided tour would have been more of what we were looking for.

Stunning.

By Coondog99 |

Made a quick stop here while wandering the streets of NYC while on a first time visit.

Anyone can walk in and look quietly. They offer audio and guided tours as well. Formal service could occur while in the cathedral.

We left a donation as a courtesy.

Enjoying St Patrick's Cathedral

By janice t |

I enjoyed the guided tour very much. Randall Satin, our tour guide added so much information to the tour. I have been to St Patrick's many times, but my first tour. his friendly, upbeat personality just added to the enjoyment of the tour. I recommend taking the tour. it adds so much to the trip.

A Church to Rival the European Greats

By Rose Tea |

It felt like being in a different country entering into this gorgeous church, what an absolute marvel of a building. We enjoyed some quiet reflection time and appreciated it extra to escape the hustle and bustle for a moment.

St. Patrick's Cathedral Tour with Randall

By Irish M |

I took a group tour of St. Patrick's on March 26, 2023 and it was fantastic!
Randall was a very nice and attentive guide and was a wealth of knowledge regarding the building itself. The Cathedral was very active and services were being held and that only added to the experience. The structure is a monumental achievement in both structure and societal meaning. We were given so much information and the tour still could have continued a couple of more hours. Being in the crypt of the late Archbishops and Cardinals was a rather emotional experience.
I highly recommend this tour for Catholics and non-Catholics alike. Anyone interested in the history of NYC would find this tour very informative.

JUST STUNNING

By karenCFC |

Amazing to see such a beautiful construction on 5th Avenue amongst all the modern buildings. So beautiful inside. A must visit when in New York

Great Traditional Style Cathedral

By DutchPirate1 |

I never miss an opportunity to spend a least a short visit to this classic cathedral even though i am an atheist. The art work mixed with the easy access allows the faithful and those interested only in the architecture and art to enjoy.

VIP tour of St Patrick’s Cathedral

By Danc1952 |

We took a tour of St Patrick’s Cathedral yesterday. It was fantastic! Extremely informative, very interesting and flexible with answering all our questions. So much history, inspiring architecture, and stunning stained glass and sculptures. We would highly, highly recommend.

Disappointed Catholic

By Steven H |

We had a self guided tour we paid for my wife and I for March 23, 2025. We live in Fl and was scheduled to fly to NY city on March 20th Thursday morning. During the night my suffered an attack had to seek emergency medical services, so due to her illness I had to cancel our entire trip. The airline, hotel, Theater and transportation reservations including St Patrick Cathedral ticket seller was notified. Everyone was very understanding and offered a full refund except the ticket office for St Patrick tour. The told me that NO REFUND will be offered despite having me called three days before the tour and explaining the reason for the request.
I find this flying in the face of everything the catholic values should stand for. Compassion, love your neighbor. I am not happy that we were denied a refund.

Must see! Breathtaking!

By DLA |

St. Patrick's is almost always open to anyone that wishes to walk through. It is beautiful, like the cathedrals of Europe. The first time I visited I was overwhelmed by the beauty and presence of God. Every time I go to Manhattan, I make a point of seeing St. Pat's again.

Breathtaking cathedral

By BlueandBittysMama |

Absolutely beautiful!! I booked an audio tour as part of my family vacation with my tween boys. We are not religious; however, I find it terribly difficult to pass up the beauty and architecture of cathedrals. The stained glass is breathtaking. Definitely worth the time and minimal expense for the audio tour. The entry is run efficiently. The woman who helped me in the little store was wonderfully helpful and provided much needed guidance in choosing a gift for a dear friend.

Free opportunity to walk around the Cathedral

By Andrew M |

Away from the hustle and bustle of New York and especially 5th Avenue, the Cathedral stands for the longest time for a place to unwind and get in touch with your religious side.

Must Visit!

By Stephan W |

This is perhaps the most beautiful church/cathedral I have visited. IT was maybe my favorite part of our NYC trip around Thanksgiving!

Breathtaking

By marlenecastilyn |

I love this church. The sounds of the choir are amazing. I will make it a point to come here more often. The echo of the church really shows it's age

The Roman Catholic Cathedral

By Thomas V |

I stepped in and walked around while I was in the area and was not much impressed. The design tries to imitate grand cathedrals in Europe, but this does not come close. And this place symbolizes a lot of pain for a lot of New Yorkers for a lot of reasons. I did try to admire the church for its architecture, but it did not work for me.

I wish the audio tour was better organized

By TigerMO |

I purchased a cathedral audio tour before I left home and downloaded it to my phone. I really enjoyed the information provided in the audio tour, but it was hard to follow. It seemed that some of the chapels were skipped and stops were not in the correct sequence. The audio advanced automatically, so you were hearing a description of something other than where you were standing, so I was repeatedly having to stop and restart the audio. They should be able to do a better job of matching the tour audio to the stops along the route. But, the cathedral is lovely and worth the trip.

Great To See In Person!

By The Trusty Trip Gal! |

I always have seen this Cathedral in movies!

We was on our way up to Central Park Zoo but we took another route so we would pass the Cathedral on the way by!

It is a stunning building outside! I would of loved to have seen it inside but didn’t have time to get round to it!

Would definitely go inside next time!

Transcending Beauty

By perrypickerign |

The St. Patrick's Cathedral in NYC is a marvel. The scale and beauty of the building are breath taking. Yes, God is with you where ever you are and not contained in a building. However the majesty and artistry of this building is a must see.

Beautiful

This church is absolutely beautiful, it doesn’t matter what religion you practice it is worth visiting.

My only drawback was that I didn’t have a enough time to really take things in. Beautiful

A NYC must see

Heavenly experience

By john l |

Been there many times and always look forward to my return. The peaceful atmosphere adds to its beauty as does all the altars and statuary.

By Luca R |

Beautiful Cathedral to visit early in the morning when there are few tourists and before the museums open. Do not miss this visit with or without guided tour.

Beautiful cathedral: Worth A Visit!

By Bhushan Timla |

St. Patrick’s Cathedral is one of those landmarks in New York that you can visit relatively quickly, because of its central location as it’s near Grand Central Station, just in front of Rockefeller Center. Visiting St. Patrick’s also feels almost familiar, because it has appeared in many films, making it a recognizable spot.

The architecture is amazingly wow! Absolutely beautiful both inside and out. Stained glass windows are so impressive, great light inside. Regardless of your faith whether you are Catholic or not, its a must see Church. The cathedral is both incredible and grand, offering free entry as well.

Gorgeous RC Cathedral

Beautifull!

By Gabycoral |

St. Patrick's Church is beautiful and impressive inside and out. It has a lot of art that would take a long time to describe. It is a stop that should not be missed.

Beautiful

By Tammy T |

The virtual tour was totally not worth the money or effort. The church is beautiful and worth seeing. Only needed about 30 minutes to see everything there was to see so we had plenty of time for more sight seeing. Going into and observing the church is FREE, the only cost is the virtual tour which is optional.

Stunning, beautiful Cathedral

By Schleny2 |

This was the most beautiful Cathedral I have ever seen. The architecture was amazing and the ornate detail was like no other. You can sit and pray, light candles and say a prayer. There is a small store to buy medals and rosaries. There is no charge to tour the church and you can walk all around. It wasnt too crowded so you can see everything within an hour

Great beautiful Gothic Christian temple

By TRAVELLER Foodie ✈️ |

Gigantic Gothic style temple, super well maintained, large windows, good acoustics and located in the heart of Manhattan on 5th Avenue

Its exterior architecture surprises you and once you enter, the floor, the columns, the stained glass windows, everything is impressive.

It is very well preserved and cared for and there is a lot of security.

Negative point everything is done to make money with candles, donations,...

Peaceful

By skd22 |

We entered the cathedral with no line and no waiting. The gentleman was at the front asking men to take off their hats. No mention of women's bare shoulders. We were able to take pictures and walk around the entire church. Lovely architecture and holy space.

A beautiful in-depth walk through the cathedral

By Kelly F |

This was a well paced walk through the cathedral, guided by a seminarian who was incredibly well versed in the history of the cathedral. Since it was just the 3 of us, we could stop, ask questions, and share our observations together. We went into the crypt and onto the main alter and talked about several of the beautiful small alters that line both side walls. Anthony showed us pictures and drawings from the archives of the early days of the cathedral to give us some perspective compared to the surroundings today. Although we’ve been to the cathedral before, this gave us a wonderful new view of an iconic New York landmark.

Beautiful place with poor service

By Jared H |

They should not sell audio tours immediately prior to an officer’s memorial. Many of the sites towards the back were roped off and they roped us off as well. We were then asked if we were private family to which we were confused and waved out by staff. It was an embarrassing experience and my condolences to the families impacted.

A stunning cathedral worth while stopping to take in on your trip

By Joyce J |

We had a list of things to do and see and this was one of the Iconic buildings on our list.
It's a beautiful cathedral and so iconic and another location that has been seen so many times on screen in movies and tv. Located on 5th Avenue and just stunning architecture. We wanted to a photo stop here so we put it on our route from Times Square to Central Park.
We visited early on a Tuesday morning and were delighted that it was open and we were able to enter. No queue we were just able to walk straight in and not too busy
It's such a beautiful building inside and out. This was such a bonus as we thought we may not be able to go inside and it was free to enter with a request for a donation towards the upkeep of the cathedral.
We were lucky to walk around the inside of the cathedral and get a glimpse of the interior. I know you can book an official tour but we hadn't planned that but I think next time we get to New York this is something that will may do to really appreciate the architecture. We are not religious but feel that buildings like this need to be seen and discover the history behind it.
A definite must see for anyone visiting New York

NYC Must See

Landmark plus Rectory Helmsley Palace

By lovetotravel |

The reverence is immediately felt upon entering even if you are agnostic. The calm that descends upon your being after the hustle bustle of 5th Ave is welcome.

We arrived on the 24th of December and the nativity scene was incomplete because the birth of Jesus was the next day.

Nice church

By LostInTime |

The cathedral is quite nice. You can enter in the back for free but appear to need tickets for the front. You can get some quick pictures from the back and get a feel for it. It’s a big building.

Awe-inspiring cathedral of old European tradition.

This cathedral imposes an inescapable deep sense of spiritual awe even in the agnostic soul. One cannot help sense the presence of the divine and supernatural in the mere enormity of the building much like what one often experiences in the great expanses of nature like the mountains or oceans.

VIP Tour St Patrick's Cathedral

By jacksonsfriend |

Took the 10:30 VIP Tour with Randy. Only 6 of us in our tour so it was intimate and conversational. I highly recommend! We went over a little in time 1 1/2 hours which was a true gift. No one wanted it to end. You cut through all the crowds and throngs of visitors and get the most detailed insight to the history and character of the Cathedral. We are Catholic but I don't think you have to be to fully enjoy this Tour. Randy has insights and access to parts of the Cathedral not normally open to the public. Definitely put this on your agenda. For us it was unforgettable

St. Patrick’s Cathedral is a landmark in NYC, a must visit spot for Catholic brothers and sisters

By kunwoo.lee_matthew |

St. Patrick’s Cathedral is a landmark in NYC, a must visit spot for Catholic brothers and sisters.
I went to the cathedral half as a tour and half as a catholic for Sunday mass. Both points were well met.
Cathedral is well constructed with hints of the history and culture felt on many corners. Yet, it was very well organized and maintained.
Mass was taken in a holy, exemplary yet inviting manner, I felt ~30% were visitors around the world like me and rest were local brothers and sisters. Cardinal was a inspirational figure during the Sunday Mass

free to visit

By Matt L |

Nice place to visit. you don't requite a ticket or to pay on entry and you can light a candle for loved ones. Very busy, naturally, and I think you can have a tour through the Sightseeing Passes but you don't require one. nice place to visit if you are passing.

Amazing experience

By Jackie H |

Rodney the tour guide was amazing. He made sure he took his time and showed us some of the greatest of architecture of the church and the told us about the history.

So beautiful

By lilbit1023 |

So beautiful. A lot of history. Everything I expected it to be. Was not disappointed at all! I would love to go back on my next rip to the city.

take a break of serenity

By globtrotteuse |

It's surprising how small the building seems considering the buildings surrounding it.
Come spend a moment there and take a peaceful break.

Beautiful!

By boymomdfw |

Beautiful cathedral. We made it in before mass so it was open late. Enjoyed the poinsettias and Christmas decorations.

Please close during Mass times

By AZ_Margie |

I agree with other comments about sightseers entering during Mass. As Catholics we are taught to have full, active, conscious participation at Mass. This was challenged by the presence of sightseers walking up the outside aisles taking photos. To attend Mass in this beautiful sacred space is a true gift (that's why I gave an excellent rating), However, please allow us to enter fully into the Real Presence by closing during Mass times. Tourists will certainly understand and appreciate our reverence.

Right in front of the hotel

This is a neo-Gothic cathedral located next to the Palace Tower where we stayed. We were able to tour the interior after a simple body check. I'm sorry that we had to look down on it.

The Cathedral

By angela0809 |

The Cathedral, dedicated to St Patrick, was built in neoclassical style, according to the dictates of European Gothic cathedrals, in the mid-800s. The majestic interior, 120 meters long, is illuminated by large polychrome windows. Very suggestive at Christmas time with trees and nativity scene. To see!

Located on Fifth Avenue, opposite Rockefeller Center, a Gothic-style Catholic church appears in the shopping district of many department stores and boutiques.
The powerful contrast between classic and modern makes it stand out very spectacularly!!
St. Patrick's Cathedral, or St. Patrick's Cathedral, is a neo-Gothic Catholic church in New York City, United States.
The Cathedral of the Catholic Archdiocese of New York and the parish church are Gothic Revival-style buildings and are one of the major tourist attractions in New York!!

Yes, this a real church and that is a real church service

By Stephanie S |

To all the tourists huddled in the back of the cathedral taking pictures and gawking at the people in the pews who kept psuedo-whispering to each other "Is this a real church service?"

Yes. Yes, it is. So be respectful, don't wander up to the alter in the middle of the service to take a picture, and stop talking so loudly. Instead, tithe $5 into the boxes to thank the parish for allowing you to visit, light a candle for your loved ones, and either sit down and pray or quietly take your leave.

All are welcome as long as they do not disrupt.

Well worth a visit

By Fleckney |

This is a lovely old Church and is well worth a visit. It is free to look round, but if you want a self guided tour explaining all about the icons and pictures, plus the hostory of the Church, you can hire a tablet for $25 which will provide you with all of the details that you need

Sites of cultural and religious interest.

By Álvaro T |

It is a must-see in New York City. Free access. You can enjoy its images and refined architectural style. And of course, find the image of Saint Patrick and his prayer at feet.

Lovely

By hsasmith |

Lovely church. Visited on a Sunday when Mass was taking place which was very interesting. The stain glass windows were amazing

Well Organized Flow of Visitors

By Melaney68 |

The staff did a very good job of monitoring and welcoming visitors. Large bags were checked as we entered and it was fairly easy to then visit and take in the beauty of the church. Bathrooms were on site, but the line was long.

Magnificent

By Kicco66 |

When you see it in front of you, it's a punch in the eye in the middle of Manhattan skyscrapers, a wonder, mind you, but it seems out of context. Despite appearing small compared to the buildings around, it boasts impressive dimensions, the spires exceeding 100 meters. It dates back to the nineteenth century and is the largest neo-Gothic cathedral in North America. Externally it is massive and majestic, inside you can admire the ceilings, the three naves and the stained glass windows. There is also a replica of Michelangelo's piety but of course the original is inimitable.

An unexpected gem

By Nick Creal |

Was up early one morning and had seen the cathedral in the guide book and thought that it would be worth an explore. The building was vast and there was a daily service going on every 30 minutes which was interesting to listen to while walking around the outside of the inside of the building. The architecture was spectacular and worth a visit

For the Faithful a must stop in NYC

By @IamMrsMACKS92 |

If you are Catholic I this is worth how crowded it might be. We went for noon daily Mass and would absolutely do this again! Visitors can walk around during Mass so just be ready for that. The various altars are beautiful. Unfortunately, we were not able to go back to the area where the Pieta replica is, but we understand the need for caution with where visitors can go. We actually had a celebrity sighting, Comedian Shane Gillis was in attendance. Returning to do the Catacombs tour will be on my list.

Cathedral in Manhattan

It is a place of worhsip inside a beautiful building. We visited to have a moment of peace while visitng super busy Manhattan for vacations.

Peaceful

By delagioventu |

Wonderful cathedral right on 5th avenue, a real haven of peace in a bustling city, we really enjpyed to be able to spend some moments here.

So beautiful

By cs0622 |

I was here on a Wednesday afternoon and there was a service in session, so others were not allowed to really go into the church. I stepped up to the ropes to take the attached photo. Such a beautiful church.

One of the best in the United States

By 1234texas |

I have walked, driven and run past the cathedral for decades, but never stopped to see the interior. Today was the day I took the time to go inside. It is a lovely structure outside and inside. If you are in the city--do not make my mistake!
There are many cathedral in Europe that are far better, but this is ours. However, the good news is that the pictures speak for themselves .

Cathedral VIP tour is good! :D

By m0ta17 |

Beautiful place, iconic views, a must see! Took the VIP tour. Bit pricey but you get to go to the core of the Cathedral and take some incredible shots. Really like it and worth it!

Incredible Architecture

By BatchFam |

A must see whether on a tour, driving by or walking around. It’s near Rockefeller center and tons of shopping. Go inside if you can!

Worth a visit

By mrk |

We did the audio tour & learned a lot about the catheter while walking around, beautiful stain glass windows & designed inside would recommend

Completely renovated

By Sébastien D |

A very nice Cathedral that is right on the way to Sightseeing and Shopping.

A completely restored building, which has therefore lost some of its soul, but which nevertheless allows to immerse itself in the US religious atmosphere.

One of the most beautiful religious buildings in all of NYC.

Impressive

By Lonnie G |

The cathedral is breath-taking and impressive. A lot to see and so well preserved. I would have liked to have been able to read more about different aspects but understand this is still a functioning church. I thought they did well to allow tourism while still maintaining respect. A must see!

always wonderful st patricks

By china t |

always go. It is in the heart of NYC. in passing, stop by to thank and bless the trip. There are masses every day. several and one in Spanish

Spectacular and Serene

By Nostalgiyeah |

The Cathedral is opposite Rockefeller Center. It is a magnificent structure located in Midtown. In the middle of a vibrant and constantly moving New York, this cathedral is a very solemn spot. While the exterior is beautiful, the interior of the cathedral is quite regal with large columns and magnificent works of glass art. Walk silently around soaking in the majesty of the cathedral architecture or sit down at one of the benches and take a few moments for a quite reflection - there are different ways to enjoy the serenity and calmness this place has to offer, outside the hustle and bustle of New York City.

Magnificent

By FascinatedTraveller |

Truly beautiful, especially by day with sunlight streaming through the stained glass windows. A moment of calm and quiet in the City That Never Sleeps...

New York's cathedral

By phvi2617 |

This is an iconic cathedral built in an immense neo-Gothic style. The art and architecture is stunning and inspiring. It is a little touristy (they even have credit card readers for candle donations!), but there was peace and quiet at the 8:00 AM daily mass.

Tour of St. Patrick's Cathedral

By Susan J |

Randall was a wealth of information, entertaining and very personable. I would take another tour with him as the Guide.

If you like Churches, this is a must

By Claude F |

Not being a big church fan, i still loved this one. The inside is amazingly beautiful and definitely worth a visit.

Wow!!! And FREE!

By Love2travel19892 |

St Patrick’s cathedral is a MUST to see while in NY. It is a 2 minute walk from the Rockefeller center and a true piece of history - absolutely beautiful.
You can walk in and look around at no cost or you can book a tour.
Our time was limited so we just walked in and looked around.
Very easy to find and walk through.

A morning well spent

By Jeanne H |

The tour guide Randall was superb. He was knowlegeable, humorous, organized and well organized. So interesting to see things I have never seen as a NYer and churchgoer. A morning well spent!

Outstanding architecture

By Moochie-La-La |

Catholics and non-Catholics alike are welcome to visit this incredible Cathedral, right downtown Manhattan. The majesty and detail in every corner is impressive. Really gorgeous structure!

Breathtaking Architecture

By Chris W |

I did not take part of an organized tour. The building is absolutely astounding from the outside. The interior is even better!

A bit of a money grab

By Robin B |

We had been wanting to visit for a long time, but it seemed like it was either under renovation or closed for some event every time we were in New York. This is a beautiful, huge cathedral. We spent about 30 minutes strolling around. I think there is an audio tour, but I never saw the person manning the tour station the entire time I was there. This cathedral is very heavy on religion (more so than other churches and cathedrals), and seemed to be asking for donations every time I turned around. There were countless prayer candles for numerous saints throughout the church, kiosks for medals and commemorative coins, a small gift shop with more pricey medals, rosaries, etc., a holy water stand where you could bottle your own holy water and simply a credit card kiosk to swipe your card just to donate to the ongoing upkeep of the church. All this while being surrounded by priceless marble, gold relics, beautiful carved wood, stained glass windows, etc. It is worth a stop but I really didn’t connect in ways I have with other, smaller churches.

Lovely church. Organ was playing and it was glorious. Go for it!

By Annie N |

Very welcoming and unbelievably gorgeous! Stain glass and architecture is simply stunning.
So glad I took the detour. Easily accessible by subway

Imposing

Beautiful, huge cathedral in the middle of Fifth Avenue, currently decorated for Christmas, a place of reflection and tranquility

A Quick but Essential Stop: St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York

By Ciro B |

St. Patrick’s Cathedral is one of those landmarks in New York that you can visit relatively quickly, but it’s definitely worth seeing. Its central location makes it easy to fit into your itinerary, as it’s near Grand Central Station, Rockefeller Center, Bryant Park, and the New York Public Library. The cathedral is both beautiful and grand, offering free entry, with a $5 fee if you wish to light a candle for prayer.

Visiting St. Patrick’s feels almost familiar, likely because it has appeared in many films, making it a recognizable spot. If you’re in the area, I highly recommend stopping by to appreciate its impressive architecture and serene atmosphere.

Beautiful Cathedral

By Veronica |

Being from Spain, I loved the architecture of this cathedral in and out. I absolutely loved it. Amazing religious site.

A special place in the heart of New York

By Watzmannsfeuerwerk |

Serenity in a crazy city!

By Anna E |

I’m not a religious person but I like visiting cathedrals/ old churches as I find the architecture and history quite interesting. There’s almost always a quiet calm about them which offers respite from the craziness of a city!

St Patrick’s is free to enter and has a bag check which is quick and simple.

It’s a beautiful place inside and out and worth a visit.

Quite nice

By Julie1962Qatar |

It’s free and quite pretty inside. I was in the area so decided to have a look. I’ve visited lots of beautiful churches in Italy and the Notre Dame so am a bit spoiled as nothing will compare to these but it is worth a visit if you like old churches

Meh. Tourist trap.

By J J |

Church is beautiful. Definitely a tourist spot, which is very distracting. The security guards are so uptight. The pews have a weird divider on either side of the cathedral and its impossible to get back to your seat. This one guard yelled at me and said, "stop doing that" (which is bad english because I only did it once and it wasn't a continuous action). I just stared at him and he walked away trying to act like a tough guy and said, "yeah I'm talking to you!". Is that even appropriate for in a church setting? I wish they would stop treating this place like a tourist trap and retain some sense of sanctity for people who want to pray.

Went in to light a candle

By Herbert C |

Pretty spectacular cathedral on a par with any of the best in Europe. The sheer number of stained-glass windows is amazing.

A must see

By charles s |

If you have never been to see this Cathedral it needs to be on your list of things to see. This is a stunning gothic style cathedral right in the heart of NYC. I found that no matter your religious affiliation you can enjoy the beauty and reverence of this building. you only ned about 30 mins to walk around the inside and can fit this between most other tourist activities.

Beautiful Building

By Bennettbrian |

What a fantastic building.
Inside and out, the architecture is amazing.
The stained glass windows are something else.
The calming, peaceful feeling inside is wonderful.
A great place to visit while in New York City.

Next time I’m going inside

By coconutugly |

So many trips to ny and haven’t yet been inside. Gorgeous from outside and always a great time to stop and reflect. Love it

Impressive cathedral

By Lovetravelling |

The cathedral was decorated fantastically for the holiday period. Wonderful place of worship. We were lucky enough to have a fabulous view of it from our hotel room but it was also lovely to go inside and see how beautiful it is from the inside as well as from the outside.

Amazing architecture

By AlfLondon1 |

Great place to visit close to the Rockefeller Center and lots of places to eat/drink around it. Worth a visit.

A majestic building with a non-transferable atmosphere

By Mariia K |

Beautiful place. Excellent for both religious service and tourists.
The place is popular and a large number of tourists even on weekdays, this is worth considering when planning a visit here.
Admission is free.

A true Cathedral in the heart of NYC!

By Frozen_72 |

Apart from the lack of the "Hunchback", there really is everything in this cathedral. Spectacular front facade, immense naves and presence of sculptures and paintings of great quality and size. It can be visited entirely independently and is striking for its vastness as well as for the attention to detail and the conditions in which it is preserved. It is an element apparently "unrelated" to the New York context, but nevertheless it does not clash but rather its contrast with, for example, the very nearby Rockefeller Center is striking.

Very Special

By plesprue |

VIP Tour was very engaging!
We had an outstanding tour guide who was so genuine. Note that the tour begins at the Parish House so just pay attention as navigating to St. Patricks.

Lovely

By Glowbtrahtter |

This was wonderful. So beautiful and reverent. A must see in New York. Great location and short walk from Times Square. Definitely would visit again.

Beautiful & Inspirational architecture

By Gary R |

This is a must see when in area. Unmatched architecture in a huge cathedral setting in downtown area. The detailed and ornate design throughout are so inspirational while walking through the magnificent structure. A great place to pray or visit on your next NYC trip.

A truly amazing church

By marshaymes |

We went one morning but unfortunately there was a funeral being held,
I went back on my last morning and so glad I did, it’s the most amazing place I have ever been too, I’m not religious but do enjoy visiting church’s and st Patrick’s is the most beautiful church inside and out
I spent two hours just taking it all in wandering around and sitting people watching. A visit is a must !!

Stunning!

By Reviewsbymom |

Gorgeous church to just go in and walk around, it is free. Stunning architecture if you are in the area to visit it. The church bells go off on the hour.

Beautiful cathedral well worth seeing

By Moxieone |

Beautiful cathedral but was expecting a 90 minute tour with more access to special access behind the scenes areas. Tour only lasted 40 minutes and our group of six people on the tour could not go to many areas as there were events going on that Saturday afternoon. Recommend going during the week to get a more comprehensive tour. Also came back for Sunday mass and got to see Arch Bishop Timothy Dolan at no cost. Very lovely impressive cathedral with a lot of history.

Superb building that must be visited

By Régis1972 |

If you only have to visit one cathedral in New York, it may be this one. Its construction began in 1858 and today it sits majesticly close to Rockfeller Center. The interior is incredible, more than 700 stained glass windows. It can accommodate more than 3000 people. Beautiful building worth a visit.

Worth a visit

By kawkaw k |

Worth a visit and it's FREE. Ignore the city passes that say it's included in the pass. Unless it's a tour, it is free anyway. I suggest making a donation during your visit, which seems only fair.

We visited when the sun was shining through the stained glass windows. Really lovely.

Too touristy

By kunduku |

Like many other cathedrals, a beautiful building with lots to gaze at but very touristy.
As I am not religious, it did not bother me but anyone there for a spiritual experience I fear would have been disappointed. We did not do the guided tour but enjoyed our wander around and, for us, it wasn't too crowded. Beautiful windows, carvings and a myriad of sculptures and chapels but the price of candles and other items within the cathedral seemed to be extortionate, even for a NYC tourist attraction.
We are glad we went and enjoyed what we saw but this is far more of a tourist attraction than anything else.

in the Cathedral of NY

By valygar |

neo-Gothic cathedral probably among the most famous and important in the United States also for the location in the center of New York and today surrounded by countless skyscrapers and shops, which gives it a particular touch; we are talking about a church that is just under 200 years old, so for a European something hardly imaginable, however there is no denying that the size and its grandeur are respectable; free visit, more or less you can access all the major areas; in my opinion it takes just a half hour

Beautiful

By Antonietta Pellegrini |

Beautiful cathedral in the heart of New York. The controls are very quick, you can admire the wonderful colored glass mosaics. Absolutely worth seeing.

Impressive church building

By LaVa Touristik |

It is the largest cathedral built in the neo-Gothic style in the United States and was completed in 1878 - an impressive place of worship even by European standards.

The 123-meter-long, 53-meter-wide and 101-meter-high church is located on the "shopping mile" 5th Ave. and opposite the Rockefeller Center.

Very nice

By mkunnen63 |

Very beautiful Church in between all the violence of the tall buildings on the fifth avenue.
Nice to walk through here and see all the beautiful things. Of course a candle lit for the people who have missed us. More than worth seeing this beautiful Cathedral

Fantastic

By William V |

We took the VIP tour and were not disappointed. Anthony, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable and was able to explain the history and meaning of area of the cathedral. We highly recommend this tour

Deserves a visit

By Gordon S |

Visited the church with my wife. It was breathtaking and deserves more than a 30 minute visit.
Will visit again, if in the area

Gorgeous cathedral

By NikaNumber1 |

It’s big and cavernous. A lot of blind spots to the alter. I see why there are TV screens.

Beautiful details on the columns, the stained glass is gorgeous and the relief depictions are so amazingly detailed.

Lots of smaller alters on each side of the cathedral, since the main alter is blocked off for prayers.

Just plain beautiful.

By Piotr B |

The cathedral, in the neo-Gothic style, looks absolutely amazing against the background of the modernist buildings of Manhattan. This tiny patch of greenery among the skyscrapers and... the majestic beauty that emanates from the stone walls makes a smile reflecting the current state of contentment and artistic fulfillment appear on your face involuntarily. Just such an architectural and artistic breath from the concrete of New York.

Do not buy tickets

By Piet |

The tour in the cathedral was impressive. But do not buy tickets. The admission is free, the guided tour is also free. The password to unlock the app is given at the entrance. We made complaints, but bo reaction.

Beautiful Church

By shazaca |

Decorated beautifully for Christmas. Really enjoyed the peaceful chapel in the back of the church for prayer and devotions. Loved being able to step off the sidewalks of the busiest city and find peace in this church.

St. Patrick’s Cathedral

By Emily L |

An absolutely beautiful church in the middle of the city. You can do a self guided tour free of charge. Definitely worth a visit.

Large Church

By Acineto |

I was aiming for the Rockefeller Center and came across the church on 5th Avenue. The Church is quite large and does invite people in. There was a mass going on so I didn't have the opportunity to enter the church itself. I did get into the atrium and see the interior from there.
The high ceilings were quite nice. It is also quite nice to admire from the outside with all the spires.

Amazing Building

By Ricky M |

I have walked by this building in the past but have never entered it until last week. This building is amazing and unlike any church I have been in before. It is absolutely huge. Admission is free or by recommended donation ($5) which is very reasonable. It is self guided and you can walk the entire sanctuary.

Stunning and a true landmark

By Eva |

Breathtaking…it literally took mine and my moms breath away. Absolutely stunning especially decorated for Christmas.

Even with the crowds, you could move through nicely and really appreciate the architecture and spiritual feeling.

A must, even for those not religious. Just simply appreciate the monument.

A pleasant and informative short tour.

By International Traveller |

The guide was lovely and we enjoyed the one hour tour. There is not really a lot to see or learn and the tour could have been completed in 30 minutes. I do not think the tour is good value for money - it is far too expensive for content and duration.

Beautiful cathedral

St Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland

By Jeffry b |

St Patrick's Cathedral is the largest Catholic Church in New York City. St Patrick's is in the heart of New York. It has large congregations during holy days, such as Easter and Christmas. When the Cathedral was built in the mid-19th century, most of the diocese consisted of Irish people, for whom St Patrick was their patron saint. St Patrick's Cathedral is a holy center for the Catholic Church in the United States.

I think it's the only church we visited in NY, considering that NY hides so many of them. Very beautiful and very touristy, free entry.

We visited this church on st.Patrick’s day after the watching the parade. It was beautiful so many stained glass windows. Well worth a visit. It’s free but a donation is always welcome.

A Must-See Icon of Beauty and Faith

By Lainie L |

As a local, I've been to St. Patrick's Cathedral but it's been years.

I stopped by for a quick visit since I was in the area.

I forgot how beautiful it is, especially during this festive season.

The beauty of the architecture, with the intricate details and the grand stained glass windows, creates a truly magical and spiritual atmosphere.

The cathedral was crowded with both tourists and locals, strolling, taking photos or worshipping and praying.

As a local, I often take for granted the presence of this iconic site, but spending just half an hour reminded me of its unparalleled charm and historical importance.

There's no fee to enter but check the website for when Mass is held if you're interested in attending one.

If you find yourself nearby, no matter your beliefs, I encourage you to take a moment to visit and experience the beauty and wonder this iconic cathedral can evoke.

Beautiful Gothic Revival cathedral - certainly a national treasure. It’s worth a visit whether you’re attending Mass, lighting a candle for a loved one, listening to the beautiful music, or taking in the magnificent sculptures and architecture. It’s truly special.

Iconic and beautiful

By Dr_Waugh |

Iconic and beautiful. We called in to take in the beauty of the Cathedral. We didn’t have time to take Mass but did have a moment to say a prayer.

If you want to light candles in memory of a loved one have small bills with you. Suggested minimum is $2 and we were cashless.

Imposing cathedral in the heart of New York, very beautiful in neo-Gothic style. Artistically nothing unforgettable but a visit and a prayer I did willingly.

Guided VIP Tour

By Kerry V |

Went on a guided tour with my 9 year old daughter and 3 others. Our historian, Anthony, was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the history of the church. We got to attend some areas that no one else gets to go to such as the sacristies on the lower level, the small chapel below the Lady Chapel that everyone sees from the main floor, the crypt, and have the main altar to ourselves.
