A very small zoo. Great for a half a day visit. Recently remodeled. Not very big animals. Great to walk around for kids.

Feed the animals. Fear the snakes behind glass . Listen to the laughs of children. Great place for a fun afternoon. Food available and gift shop. Small fee to enter. Nit as many animals as years ago. Still a good day out

Not too small not too big but just right.
The Staten Island Zoo is a nice place for children. Not overwhelming. Informative, entertaining and well maintained animal environment.

this zoo is clean and well kept: Many new additions to visit and enjoy; Kids had a great day; we went with a group of kids and spent all day there,Lost track of time. Staff is great Food is within an average budget, Price of admittion is not a bad deal will go back again

Situated in Barrett Park, this little hometown zoo is a favorite of young and old. One of my dearest friends was its director who was instrumental in modernizing the exhibits and the nursery. Petting zoo is a favorite of young chldren.

One of the better around. The aquarium and reptile room were fun to experience. The kids loved it. It is not as big as the Bronx zoo so expectations should be somewhat tempered, but it is a nice afternoon.

My daughter loves going to the zoo. The lemur habitat is fantastic, allowing people to get safely close to wild cats. The carousel is adorable for a small additional cost. The feeding/ petting zoo is a highlight for kids.

Upon visiting the Staten Island Zoo, I was impressed how well the animals were cared for, Their space was plentiful and they all looked quite content. All the exhibits were very informative and I learned quite a bit. Also, I was very impressed with the restaurant available to the public. Just remember to bring a camera because you will want to take pictures of many areas.

Not quite, but snakes there are. SI Zoo is known for its excellent display of worldwide snake specimens, especially rattlesnakes from North America. In addition, they have a children's zoo complete with donkeys and baby pigs. In addition, they have a meerkat exhibit complete with a desert setting. While the zoo is small it offers a wide variety of animal species to see and is just the right size to visit with children without wearing everybody out. Nice place to visit for a day.

Animals all look well taken care of. Place is very clean. petting zoo is the best anywhere. great day with the kids.

A nice zoo a little small though . Wednesday's are free admission (voluntary donation ) also free parking across street from zoo. Clove lakes park right next to zoo must walk through .

I brought family i had visiting from Italy here with there young boy and girl and it's a great place for children to visit learning about various animals. and a peaceful place to take the family out for the day .i went in the summer time not a good time when it is too hot .a great place for spring or fall months to bring children. the price for the day not to bad and the food court had decent food at lunch time. it is not that far away from home that is the best thing about the Staten Island Zoo!

This zoo has a huge reptile display, outdoor petting zoo, monkeys and many other animals. It is a great rainy day activity as well as outdoor. In good weather they usually have pony rides. Don't hesitate to bring kids here - they will love it.

If you are on Staten Island and have kids then this is the place to go. Easy and free parking across the street. A short walk from Victory Blvd if you are taking the bus from the ferry. Not expensive. A petting zoo inside costs extra.

Zoo does terrific job organizing this event. There are games little ones can participate in and they get candy or a prize. Nice shows. The zoo is decked out for Halloween. There was a walk through area clearly marked for older kids that was scary but most activities were great for toddlers and a bit older. There was a corn maze where little ones could walk through made of bales of gray, so it was nice and low. Great idea!Highly recommend.

Being from Australia, our zoos are incredible with only the best enclosures, surroundings and care for our animals so I was super excited to visit the local zoo on Staten Island. There was no admission fee when we visited as they were doing maintenance work although we left a $10 donation. The zoo is extremely tired, drab and depressing. The tiger was pacing back and forth (making a worn trail) and looked so depressed. It took us about 10 mins to walk around and we couldn't wait to leave. Not sure what work they are doing to the place but it desperately needs something to liven it up and give those poor animals some quality of life. It needs greenery, fresh surroundings, colour, much larger enclosures which resemble the animals natural environment. Hopefully they are going to improve it and if not, please relocate the animals to better zoos.

Lovely small zoo.
I appreciate that it is appropriately-priced given its size. ($10 for adults and $6 children)...for reference the Bronx Zoo, which is MUCH bigger charges about $38 for adults and $28 for children.
The main parking lot (free) is along Clove Road but there is also lots of free street parking along Broadway, if you are coming from that direction. There is also an entrance gate on Broadway for easy access.
It was fairly empty on a Sunday late morning.
There are a few animals to see along the outside area but the large indoor area is where most of the animals are. The zoo is well-maintained.
There is a small cafe and gift shop. Again...both are reasonably priced...$3 for bottled drinks, $3 popcorn, $3 hot dogs, $6.50 hamburger...much cheaper than the average NYC venue/attraction prices.
All staff we encountered (the gate, gift shop and cafe) were very nice.
Although it was nice, due to its size, don't plan on spending more than an hour or two there...work in some other nearby attractions/eateries to complete the day.

Feeding the Kangaroos is our favorite, followed by goats & alpacas our second favorite. Excellent reptile/snake exhibit! We always enjoy our time here... My only wish is for a major upgrade to the cafe food. The cheeseburgers are so greasy, they make the buns soggy...my burger-loving husband didn't even like them. And no healthy options whatsoever. (Actually I think they have fruit cups or something on the menu, but the one & only time we ate at the cafe, they were sold out). Great zoo overall! Bring your own lunch!

This is a great zoo. Its small compared to others but it has a lot of animals to see.
Very well maintained and the animals are well cared for
Great zoo for the kidsz

This is a quaint little zoo but excellent for children . You have a lot to do there and the kids will enjoy it. Lions and monkeys and a great petting zoo. Have fun spend a few hours and enjoy.

My family and I have always enjoyed visiting the Staten Island Zoo. Its a smaller scaled zoo that has many cool exhibits, which is nice. There is indoor exhibits, as well as, outdoor. There is also a nice carousel for the kids, as well as, a petting zoo area. There is a nice little eatery for lunch or snacks where you can sit either indoor (which is air-conditioned) or outside. Wednesdays is free, you may make a small donation if you'd like, but its up to you! There is also a free parking lot located across the street from the Clove Road entrance. If you sign up for their emails, they always have nice year round events for the kids. Spooktacular is my favorite Halloween event! My family loves this zoo so much that we have become members. My children both attend the Zoofari program in the summer and they both love it!

We paid $27 to get in with a child who was seven and a child under two (who was free). I think that is a lot for what we got to see. In addition, they nickel and dime you to death once you are in there. Two dollars to pet the animals two dollars to ride the carousel, or try the wind tunnel etc etc. The were some animal exhibits that were nice, but nothing to rave about for the price!

its has the largest snake collection in new york city and you can see feeding on sunday..the zoo has a nice petting area for the little kids.. the whole zoo is small but alot to see..

What a nice day out with your little ones. Its great for a family afternoon outing. Nice amount of things to see and the staff is very friendly and knowledgable if you have any questions about the animals. Always a favorite for me visiting this zoo!!

This zoo is easy to walk with young kids, new carousel and clean exhibits we love this place it's close to home.

I spent Mother's Day with my daughter and her eight-month-old baby girl this was her first Mother's Day and I wanted to be there with her and we spent it at and her eight-month-old baby girl this was her first Mother's Day and I wanted to be there with her and we spent it at the Staten Island Zoo. Great zoo lots of great animals the peacocks were beautiful the Lemurs were adorable the spiders were Erie great way to spend an afternoon

a day of enjoyment with beautiful animals and scenery.people so nice and you sit at times here the birds and the noices of the differnet animals in the air and the wind and feedin some.

The zoo is rather small, but it is perfect for toddlers. My daughter loves the pony ride and the carousel. We were at the zoo for two hours. We probably would have stayed longer, but we just couldn't stand the smell. If you have older children, I recommend the Bronx Zoo it has so much more.

Staten Island Zoo isn’t as big as Turtleback or Bronx Zoo which is great when you have little ones you don’t want to carry around but like to run s d have fun. Lots of shade and includes farm animals and pony rides. Price reasonable, plenty of parking, can bring your own food in and Wednesday’s are free (although of course a little more crowded but good day to try for first time and decide about place for yourself

Its a small Zoo that packs a big punch. Especially if you like your reptiles.
When my kids were smaller we would go every couple of months - inexpensive good time and they always seem to be doing some upgrade or renovation. I also like how they have interactive exhibits.

Took my first trip to the Staten Island Zoo on a beautiful Saturday afternoon and was amazed to see a variety of animals from the majestic Bald Eagle to an Ostrich , two different species of Lemurs , Meerkats and a beautiful blue colored Peacock that freely roams around the Zoo.

Hahaha this is the most depressing zoo. Literally I think they need to hire a Ananias psychiatrist becacuse those animals need a xanax. The aquarium is comparable to the fish section at petco. The snake section is quite nice to bad it's about 30 ft. They did away with the huge alligator enclosure and they now have 3 alligators who look as if they are willing to become next years handbag. The leopard or cheetah exhibit is beautiful but makes you wonder why it's completely
Out doors,Especially with New York winters. If your really bored just look a peacock in the eyes there and they'll try and square up it's pretty funny. Or if you wana goood laugh while your bored out of your mind hang out near the llama and whatch it spit in everyone.

Love this little zoo! The Staten island zoo is a neat little place with a lot of fun exhibits. Some rotate, which makes it more fun. Never a bad time.

This zoo is cute nothing like the Bronx zoo but nice for family's and to go with your friends very relaxing and not expensive

Despite being a NYC resident my whole life, somehow I never visited the Staten Island Zoo until now, with my wife and kids. We were pleasantly surprised at how well-organized and well-maintained this modest-sized zoo is. It is not a "small zoo" like the Prospect Park Zoo in Brooklyn; it is larger than that, though obviously nothing like the size of the Bronx Zoo. Though not under the supervision of the WCS, like all other NYC zoos, this zoo still packs in a great variety of outdoor and indoor animal exhibits, with animals from around the world. Upon entering, there is even a dinosaur exhibit, though thankfully none of these cage-free animals is actually alive! Free parking in a lot right across the street as well as a very reasonable price of admission (compared to even smaller zoos) really round out the appealing qualities of a zoo we will often be returning to. Thank you for a great summer day at the zoo!

I'm here several times a year. 25 years ago was the SI Zoo's peak. Great animal exhibits, including Lions, and that big beautiful cow that died a few years ago.
Most of the exciting animals and exhibits are gone, no matter what improvements the zoo and politicians now say. They've concentrated on the Rainforest, which none of the children I've brought over the years - either my own, or with schools, have really wanted to stay in due to humidity and boring animals.
When there's a demonstration inside or out, it is very enjoyable. I'm not sure if the tiny cafe/expensive gift shop is open any longer -- the last 2 times I was there tit was locked and no sign. And there's rarely any staff around to ask questions (except an occasional custodian sweeping).
The admission price is better other zoos, but it peeves me to see 8 illegal aliens on line in front of me get in free, and I had to pay full price for each one in my family. (But hey, I enjoy helping pay to support those animals).

My family and I enjoy this zoo. It has a little of everything. Safari animals, sea life and forest animals. It has a famous carousel that we ride over and over again. The zoo may seem small but it has a lot to offer. One of our favorite places to visit that is close to home. We never get tired of going.

My daughter loves the zoo so instead of paying each time I go I purchased the yearly membership. The zoo is small but if you take your time and see all the exhibits you can spend hours here. On certain days the staff takes several animals out and your child has the opportunity to touch them and learn more about the animal. You have a corral as well which is fun, plus the farm.

hidden treasure in staten island,,great place to bring the little ones and they will be transported into the animal world.
the great staff is knowledgeable and friendly. so head on over and have fun.

Still fun to visit. Quiet and not as crowded as other zoos. Reptiles and prairie dogs are my favorites.

well for me was amazing find more than one zoo in nyc area, so this one was really beauty and easy to visit

It’s a small zoo but has a good variety of animals- particularly the different species of snakes. However, several enclosures didn’t look fit for purpose. Some areas verged on depressing.

A lot bigger then expected for the price and looks small when you first go in. We were visiting NYC and choose to get ferry over for a visit. Cheep taxi from ferry port and zoo was included in out new york pass.

Every visit to this charming zoo really justifies the trek from Manhattan. The (free) ferry ride is always fab; the bus from the ferry terminal is frequent and then the wonderful collection of creatures - all so well looked after - is a real delight. Don't miss Chuck, the groundhog, and the 'nursery' area of baby animals!

Many different animals, old world feel. It is cheap enough for a budget, yet there is much to be learned here.

si zoo is a great place for young kids to see the animals and just walk around,,great for grandparents to take the grandkids for a few hours

me and the kids had a great time!! thank you mike!! is very clean to be a zoo and plenty to see and explore perfect for adult and kids

Very entertaining. I tried to take pictures but by phone camera died. great for the kids. Prices very reasonable.

hidden n staten Island a nice small zoo to visit to make a day of things to do outside in Staten Island

Nice for little kids and a nice local activity. Petting zoo is what kids like. My kids used to love the pony rides. They have some nice events but they get crowded at those times and so you have to go early.

Far to small to accommodate the amount of animals. The poor cheater which was rather large was just one animal who needs a lot more space to run around.

This place is by no means comparable to the Bronx Zoo or even a Brooklyn Zoo in size or animal selection, however is worth visiting on a day when time is limited and if you do not want to drive far to visit a full blown zoo. The funnest activity is off course feeding the farm animals and birds. Kids like visiting it once in a while but always feel like the visit was too short, or rather exhibition was too limited for a big city or even a neighborhood.

I did not have the time to go to Punxsutawney, PA this year for the Groundhog's Festival so I found out when Staten Island Chuck was going to make an appearance and headed out to the Staten Island Zoo to see their festival. It was really a nice morning!
The Zoo staff set up a small stage and had their groundhog, Chuck, in a small encasement with a curtain on it. They had a local school choir sing and a local band perform their song "Staten Island Chuck" for the event. Then the politicians gave their usual long winded speeches. After that they had a small ceremony and brought Chuck out for the prediction. It is going to be an early Spring.
What was nice is that the zoo did not drag out the ceremony like they do in PA and it was over quite quickly. The groundhog they have is really cute. I found out later it was so cold out that the zoo staff had to bring him inside.
After the event, they let the people there roam the zoo for free and see all the exhibitions. There were zoo staff all over to show us some of the animals and most of the buildings were open that morning. They also have a nice cafe that was open as well as well as an adjoining gift shop. Their prices for everything were reasonable.
It is a nice zoo with a variety array of animals and wildlife. It is also not overwhelming so you can see the whole zoo in one afternoon. I just wish it had not been so cold!

Great family day out. Enough to see inside and out. There is also a no fee entry a certain day after 2. Call for info

The place is small but it has nice things to see and take a stroll with children of all ages. Even my nieces that are in thier 20s enjoyed it.

The Zoo is kept clean and the animal attractions are presented to emulate the their natural environment . I visited with my young grandchildren and they had a wonderful day.

The zoo has evolved into an animal sanctuary, using the venue to educate as well as entertain visitors - especially young ones!

Go often with my 2 year old granddaughter. She loves it especially the carousel and when animals are out for a close up experience petting them.

Great place to take the kids for an afternoon. Most of the animals are indoors. Snow leopards are a must see.

Visited on a sunny but cool day in April. Wasn't sure what to expect with 8 acres, but the layout & indoor versus outdoor habitats was well-distributed. The kids (11 & 13) loved it too. They had a petting area where you could feed certain animals & there was plenty of shade if needed. Their water fowl & bird selection was varied & unique. They were not over-loaded with animals & they all seemed well cared for & healthy. I was taken back by one of the interior displays with the meerkat. I am used to seeing these fellas outdoors in Texas & Arizona so to see them in an interior habitat made me somewhat sad, Their gift shop was small compared to others but was perfect for this size zoo. I would consider this more of an animal sanctuary than a zoo.

I have been to many zoo's around the country and our little zoo is comparable only on a smaller scale.

I have been going to this Zoo for many years and it is a great place to take the Grandkids. They like it so much I became a member. We go about 10 times a year. The kids really like feeding the animals at the petting zoo and the carousel. They also like seeing all of the snakes. It is a small zoo so you can go through it in about an hour. The also have a little play area with statues of animals that they like playing at after we are done with the exhibits. It's a nice place to spend some time and Clove Lakes Park is right down the block if you want to take a walk around the lakes. Worth a trip.

There is a large natual outdoor Siberian Tiger enclosure. There is an outdoor children zoo featuring goats, ducks, pigs . Llamas ,ostriches etc. Indoors is a small aquarium, indoor rainforest and one of the largest reptile collections in America. Other attraction include a visible baby animal nursery. They added a beautiful carousel for additional charge of two dollars

A nice little small zoo. I have to take a train and a bus but the bus stops right in front of it. I also got to see Staten Island Chuck for all Groundhog fans

We finally made it to this event, which you need to buy tickets for in advance. Great for kids of all ages, plenty to do. Just grab a costume and go on in. Live entertainment including Magician Mike Lane and Patrick and the rock a silly band were a real treat!

A very small zoo that takes very little time to get through. The carousel is overpriced and they want to charge you more to go into the petting zoo.

The Zoo staff works very hard to keep the animals happy and healthy. I appreciate the care they take to stimulate the animals, educate the public, decorate for the holidays, and expand their park. I've loved this zoo since I was a little girl and my son loves it too. My favorite parts of the zoo are the nursery and the free roaming peacocks.

Great little zoo near our home, good for small children to spend few hours outdoors and feed cute farm animals.

The Staten Island Zoo is small compared to the Bronx Zoo but it is a nice zoo with a little of everything. It takes only about an hour to do it quickly. Great for small children who can't focus on long day trips or older people who can't walk long periods of time.

Very few people who are not from Staten Island visit our zoo. They are missing out on a very nice experience. It's a relatively small zoo, much less overwhelming for children than a mega-zoo like The Bronx Zoo. The exhibits let you get close to the animals, and to see what I am told is the finest collection of rattlesnakes in the world -- fortunately all safe in glass-fronted tanks. Our daughter loved visiting there when she was young, and we can't wait to introduce her kids to it soon. Note that you may qualify for free admission with an NYC-ID card. The zoo is run by the Department of Parks and Recreation with support of a lot of volunteers and contributors. It's a great example of how well government can do something with the support of the community and really dedicated staff members. I would highly recommend a visit to the Staten Island Zoo for people of all ages. If you are driving from off of Staten Island, the zoo is about 10 minutes from the Verazzano Bridge, and 15-20 minutes from the New Jersey bridges. Please consider a visit to the zoo.
Hope this review was helpful to you.

I've been going to his zoo since I was a young girl. It's a decent size on a small island with a decent selection of animals and reptiles.

This zoo is ok for very young children, under 8 years old. It is very small & does not have many exhibits. It's one redeeming quality is the reptile exhibit which is extraordinary.

Being a native Staten Islander,I had not been to the zoo in about 5 years. My wife and I decided to take the grandchildren for a local adventure..and what a wonderful morning it was!! The zoo offered so much for both children and adults. The exhibits were well presented and informative. The grounds were well maintained and offered many photo ops for the children to experience large sized animal replica's.Roaming peacocks throughout the compound brought smiles to all in passing. The petting and feeding area is a additional charge but was worth the smiles on my grandchildrens faces. The staff and zoo keepers were wonderful and readily answered any questions..parking is free and easily accessible. The entry fee is very reasonable.Senior discounts are offered also.Spotless bathrooms, picnic tables and snack bar make for the perfect experience. This venue is a must for visitors and locals...It brought back my memories as a child and made new ones for my grandchildren.

We wondered why it was such a cheap admission fee... Only to enter and then we understood why. This is not a zoo. It's just a small yard with animals cramped into small cages and randomly placed. For example in with the monkeys were birds. The African part smelt so bad I was almost going to be sick. The stench was appalling and unbearable. No Cafes or gift shops were open.

It's great we don't have to leave the island to go to the zoo but it's tiny and could use sprucing up a bit!

A small zoo that's easy to walk through. There is a lot to see and do. My grandchildren love the carousel ride. Getting to pet a snake was an exciting experience for them too.
Staff pleasant and knowledgeable about the animals being showcased.

We brought our grandkids to NYC for their first visit. This was a great day. Starting with the ferry ride. The enclosures are nice and the nice mix of animals is engaging. Lots of shaded areas. And a great play/picnic area.

An out of the way zoo and definitely underrated. Free parking( where in New York can you find that ?) We saw some animals that you don't see in other zoos. The price is $10.00 per person which is very reasonable and there is alot to see.

This is a little zoo with a big zoo feel. You are able to walk through the entire zoo in about 2-3hrs however you might miss something. It's a great outing with the kids, they will love the petting area. We have spent over an hour in petting some days. The reptile room is a must, my kids love the Africa building as the love seeing Timon (meerkats) and King Julian (lemurs). It's a must do on the island.

The Staten Island Zoo is an excellent small zoo where animals are up close and easy to see. The entrance fee is nominal and the zoo employees walk around with different small animals for the children to pet if they wish. There is a children's zoo area with deer, ibex, joeys, sheep, and young heifers, and a large outside pond with ducks to feed. Also included is an African animal section, an aquarium, and a reptile house.

Great for children parties. Very accommodating and the kids love to see the animals. Great foray age!!!!!

The Staten Island Zoo is a great place to kill some time, it's a small zoo however they have wonderful animal exhibit and a cool little aquarium. I will admit that I show some concern about a few small exhibits for some of the bigger animals. Although over all it's a beautiful time to spend and educate with the kids.

This zoo is very small and it is excellent for toddlers. The entrance is only 8 dollars and it is free wednesday after 2pm. I took my 2 year old son and he had a great time. He loved the petting zoo.

Smaller than most, but it is very relaxing to walk around. I am a senior and my wife and I loved taking a casual walk throughout the zoo. Great way to spend a few hours.

This is another place I have been going to my whole life. It is a quaint fun little zoo. It is just a good time. I went there in my childhood and rediscovered it taking my son in his. Just a bunch of stuff to see and your not there all day or too long for the kids to get antsy. Don't think you'll be dissaponted.

I decided to take my son here on Easter. This zoo is very underwhelming. There were way more animals in the petting section that the entire zoo and I could have honestly went to the local petting zoo free of charge. My two year old was even disappointed being that he was looking for more animals. The only things there that excited him was the leopard and the carousel which you have to pay more to ride. The gift shop was open but there wasn't any one in there to help us so unfortunately we weren't able to make a purchase, which made my son a little sad because we always get a souvenir. Hopefully they'll put some work into this zoo. Overall it was a waste of money and I probably won't be coming here again any time soon.

It’s a small zoo, compact and easily seen in a few hours. The exhibits are fun and the kids really enjoyed the carousel ride more than once. The parking lot is close by, so the walk is not very far. We’ve been there many times, never disappointing. In the fall, great outdoor decorations.

It's small, concise, and so much fun. Nominal price for great experience. We go there often and every time like a first time.

Yes it was cold in February. The zoo, however, is small, but cute. The staff, mostly volunteers, are very friendly and helpful.you can't make a day of it, but if you're in the area, its a pleasant visit.

My daughter loves this place so much!Beautiful place to visit in hot summer days!Very interesting not just for kids.

We live right down the street from the Staten Island Zoo and I have been going there since the day I was born, literally. My grandmother lived across the street and that was my first home. Now our grandchildren go everytime they come and they never get bored or tired of going to the zoo. There is always something new to see and do. The events are great. Come see this special place when you are in Staten Island!

I had not been to the Staten Island Zoo for almost six years due to the zoo canceling the event since 2020, when three weeks after the event, I got up early and went to the zoo to see the event this year and it was a very nice visit.
The zoo does a nice job promoting Staten Island Chuckle in the smaller ceremony than its counterpart in Punxsutawney. The crowd was definitely bigger than previous years and very lively. Chuck predicted an early Spring and the crowd went wild. I had an early lunch in their Snack shop and had a really great Grilled Cheese lunch. Then I walked around the zoo.
I swear the poor animals were shivering it was so cold even the ones with fur coats. That was just the weather. I was able to visit the indoor jungle exhibitions and enjoy the monkey and aquatic displays. Overall a very nice visit.

Have been going to this zoo since I was a baby. (There are photos of me on the pony when they had pony rides.) A few years back, I even adopted a red panda. The zoo is great if you want to pet animals, which who doesn't want to pet animals?!
It does need some upgrades but at the same time it doesn't because I am reminded of my childhood since it literally hasn't changed since my childhood.
It's a cheap and easy attraction to visit on Staten Island.

This zoo has much to offer, great for families, couples, teens, everyone - great children's zoo and also petting zoo. At times there are many baby animals which are great to see. The reptile house is the best in the five boroughs, people come from all over to see it. You can get up close and personal with all types of animals. Great staff. Picnic benches and you can bring or buy food. Free parking across the street on Clove Road.

The Staten Island zoo makes for a nice short day trip. It has a great selection of animals. Fish rain forest monkeys alligators and also a nice childrens zoo. There is a gift shop also.

The zoo is small but perfect for something to do on afternoon. My daughter loved petting the animals.

This zoo is quite nice for a small zoo. I give it five stars for the petting zoo because you enter the corral with the goats, sheep and alpacas; they are not behind gates or bars. If you love animals, you'll appreciate the close contact. It was great. There were some real surprises: kangaroos, ostriches, an amur leopard, and a river otter you can watch swim under water. The zoo also has lots of reptiles. They had a program where the interns presented some reptile and allowed touching. The carousel is awesome because the kids can ride all different animals. It was a great day!

I remember visiting the Staten Island Zoo as a child in the 1980's, when there were large animals like lions and tigers stuck in small cement enclosures and who were sadly pacing back and forth all day. At the time I didn't really think about animal rights, but 30 years later that was on my mind when I returned to the zoo with my wife and 3 year old daughter.
And boy what a difference 3 decades make. Most of the very large animals are no longer being exhibited, and the enclosures for most of the animals look quite reasonable, and the animals appear to be healthy and well taken care of. The leopards' enclosure is a bit small for my liking, but other than that, I was very impressed by the zoo's changes and improvements.
My daughter especially loved the kid's section where we could go into the pen with the sheep and goats and feed them pellets. It was an absolute blast and definitely worth the $3 extra per person for admission.
Overall I found the zoo to be great for young children, and a perfect way to spend a couple of hours. We'll certainly be back.

Have been here numerous times, this visit was very disappointing. Not all the exhibits were open. The aquarium had one tank with fish, the others were all in disrepair. The childrens farm had not animals in it and most of the exhibits had one or two animals in it. The snack shop was closed at 3:10PM, yet the zoo closes at 4:45PM, so therefore, no place to get a drink or a snack. Upon paying admission, there are no guide books to help direct you through the exhibits. Don't waste your time or money until they have their act together.

Fairly large zoo with a huge snake exhibit. Multiple buildings house a variety of animals from all over the world in a park like setting. where the animals can stay in outdoor cages or inside One of Staten Island's hidden gems.

The Staten Island Zoo has Something for Everyone!!! It celebrates the holidays, has seasonal festivals and Great kids activities!! This "Gem of a Zoo" is warm, inviting and although it is "in the neighborhood", boasts an aquarium, petting zoo, one of the largest reptile collections in the Northeast, A Carousel, wildlife habitats, animals from otters to kangaroos ostriches to leopards.
It offers a Phenomenal Kids Summer Camp,
and it's Groundhog Chuck is a Nationally Televised Celebrity!!! Truly a Great Find!

Being that I live on Staten island, I take my toddle to the Staten island zoo almost every month. Takes about 2 hours (no rush) to see everything. Parking is free and located right across the street. My kids love learning about the animals. Take a break and jump on the new carousel. About 3 dollars for a single ride. The best part is the zoos nursery. Most times they have baby animals, And our luck we always catch the zoo keeper feeding them. They have a feeding area, whether you choose to feed them behind a small gate or up close for $2. Great Staff, amazing animals. hope you enjoy your stay!

Excellent.... the drinks the food the service the music Beautiful outside garden the whole feel captivating it's a must visit you'll get hooked

You can tour this zoo between 2-3 hours with animals from many parts of the world ,, from leopards to bald eagles. It holds one of the largest collections of snakes in the u.s.
also a very nice petting zoo with plenty of up close feeding for kids of all ages.
located in the center of the zoo is a large carousel which instead of horses has an assortment of zoo animals for the kids to ride on... a souvenir and snack shop are also
available....I take my grandkids here at least 2-3 times a year...

At least 2x a week we go to the zoo. Our grandkids just love it. They are always so friendly and
usually have a hands end segment were they let u touch t animals

This is a nice, well-managed smallish zoo. A nice place to stop if you are in or travelling through Staten Island. There are a nice variety of animals and a little petting area for the kids. This is a site where many of schoolkids from the surrounding area come for field trips so it can tend to be a pretty busy place. Since the zoo is small you can get through it pretty quickly. The animals are fairly common but it is still a lovely little place to visit. This is an especially good spot for young children.

Had a fun time with the family. This visit was very interesting, place was clean, workers very helpful.

The SI Zoo is the best kept secret on Staten Island but it shouldn't be. It is a great place to take the family. The animals are well cared for .Although they took the live ponies away and replaced them with a carousel. The price is a good value.

I've been here many times. Enjoy the large reptile room and Staten island chuck. The new leopard display was very good.

very nice quaint for the kiddo's we had a great experience here with the grandkids .very picturesque and has a very nice carousel

The Staten Island Zoo was a bit bigger than I thought it was going to be based on reviewers saying how small it is. We spent over 2 hours and I thought their animal collection was very good and various. The admission was more than worth it and the parking was easy and free.
Two adults had a great time. Visit and enjoy!

Its not the best zoo in nyc but definitely the top 3. If you live in Brooklyn or staten island or nj and jave not been yet, i would highly recommend a visit.

The Staten Island Zoo is truly a Gem. It has been here as long as I can remember and every visit is fun and interesting. Great for kids and adults. The Zoo offers specoal exhibits, theme days such as Halloween, and plenty of unique animals. A visit there is like a short "EDU-VACTION". For NYC Tourists, it should be on the list of things to do. There is a large parking lot and easy to get to by car or public transportation. Its favorite of many parents especally in the spring and summer months. Its near Martlings pond which is a very scenic area and a true escape from the busy streets of Manhattan.

I would take my wife and son on some weekends to the SIZ. For what is available the entry should be close to free. There was always some animals unavailable for reason x. The reason its not a one star is the petting zoo part, although small and an extra fee, it was my sons best part.

Such and adorable zoo. Perfect for staten island. Not a very large zoo in comparison to others, but it will make for a great day with little ones. Parking is also available across the street.

My granddaughter visited from Florida this summer. She is only 5 but loved the fact that she could feed the animals and the walk around was just perfect for her little legs. Good place to take the kids to kill some time

I agree with the other reviews, children coming to this zoo should be young. theres not that much to do. ( this is not the BX zoo ), The pony ride is great for young children, and the tiger inside the little house is cool... but I will be going back soon in sept the when the weather is cooler... be aware also the zoo is free on weds after 3pm I believe, they just ask for a donation.

We had a grand time seeing the animals. This is a small zoo, and we spent a very nice 2 hours here. Our favorite animals were the Amur leopard who sat on a rock staring at everyone passing by, the baby lemurs who leaped about playing and the snake that tried (and almost succeeded) to climb to the top of its glass case. We actually came here to ride the carousel. It’s a very interesting one made by Carousels and Carvings in Marion, OH. While the animals aren’t as refined as the ones made by Carousel Works, they are still beautiful and fun to ride.

Pretty grounds. Some outdoor farm animals like goats and cows that you can feed. Excellent indoor aquarium. Excellent humane indoor animals in their natural habitat like a jaguar and a cerval. Excellent reptile section. This zoo at one time had the largest rattlesnake exhibit in America. There are also miniature pony rides.

Its the smallest zoo I have ever been too, you could honesty see everything in about 2 hours (if you take your time). With that said it is one of the friendliest zoo I have ever taken my kids too. The staff is amazing, and always knows the answers to all the kids questions. My favorite part is the nursery, you can see baby zoo animals behind a Glass in the nursery. The petting zoo gets quite packed, and you have to pay an additional charge to get in but overall, it's still an awesome place to get the kids out for the day. If you visit Staten island, I recommend a visit to the SI zoo, and if you go in the morning, you will still have time to fit something else in for the day!

The zoo is a great place to take the kids for a day trip! The animals are well cared for and the entire zoo is neat and clean. Staff are very friendly and helpful. There is an admission charge, but there are discounts and some free admission events. They also have some very exotic animals there.

Me and my family visited this place recently, nothing special just a small zoo, clean, not very crowded.. informational and child friendly 😌 will I come back ? I don’t think so but worth the one time visit !

For a very small zoo, the smallest I've ever seen, they do a lot with the area they have. Good exhibits, well designed and very compact. I think the entrance fee is much but NYC has to get money from somewhere.
Again, unlike many NYC attractions, this one is taken care of to a point.

Some nice additions. Mostly doesn't change and somewhat rundown. Petting zoo is a catastrophe. Wish the place was a bit cleaner, even for the zoo

Fun for any young child, and even adults.
A very pleasant walk-thru of this local zoo is perfect for little kids, but even us big kids can enjoy the well-kept animals which are being "preserved" from the wilds of nature--where they can live even longer under the care of the zookeepers.

For an enjoyable day trip with the kids, the Staten Island Zoo is the place to go. Plenty of free parking across the street, affordable admission, and well keppt creatures for 7you to observe and learn about.

I went to the zoo back in September with a friend of mine and her 3 grandchildren. What a lovely zoo we have here on Staten Island. The only problem is that right now the Aquarium is being renovated. Everything else was fantastic. The exhibits are wonderful and clean too!

Good if you have kids or are fond of snakes. For this little zoo has one of the country's largest collection of venomous snakes. It is also home to the city's most famous groundhog.

I have pictures taken of me here from 1963. The original inside pavement stones are still there.
Recently visited the infamous San Diego Zoo. Utterly disappointed and all I kept saying was “the Staten Island Zoo” is better! Not to mention the passionate people who care to work there.

The day we went to this zoo there was no one else there and can now understand why! The enclosures for the animals were TOO small and not appropriate for any of them. In a few indoor enclosures the animals had baby activity centres to play with or mirrors which is not suitable. I came away from this zoo feeling sad and sorry for these poor animals. I have never seen such a overweight cheetah but am assuming that with the lack of space it can not exercise. Would definitely not recommend.

It's a great day. Worth every penny. My kids had a great time. Animals nice and clean friendly workers.

I came out for the Groundhog's Festival again this year and it was a nice day. The ceremony was much quicker than last year as it was Super Bowl Sunday still it was a nice morning.
It was much nicer this year as the weather was warmer and all the animal were out after the ceremony was over. I got to see most of the outdoor animals like the Eru's, Kangaroos and Ostriches this time around.
Don't miss visiting the gift shop/snack shop when at the zoo. There is a nice selection of foods that are great for kids. I also got one of the stuffed Staten Island Chuck's from the gift shop and it was really cute.
It is a nice way to spend the afternoon. Take time to see all the indoor displays as well. There is a interesting exhibition of snakes and monkeys to see and even a small aquarium.
It is fun to walk around the zoo.

It only takes a couple of hours to walk through the entire zoo but with a small child you can double that. The exibits are well kept and there are plenty of things to see. I would definitely recommend it if you have small children.

The Staten Island zoo has been expanding, growing with the help of our community and fellow contributers. Each visit is unique , so much going on. Exhibits, new animals, a new carousel. You can tell the zoo keepers really care and have bonded with the animals. I visit every chance I get 😉

Although the zoo is small it is a nice day out for the kids, and even the adults. It is a nice place to visit and see the animals.

A great small zoo that can easily been seen in an hour or you can spend most of a day. Nice special programs and very very friendly staff!

I took my grandchildren ( two boys) to the zoo to enjoy the animals in a natural setting. They were amazed at how the animals looked and acted. They also enjoyed the Zoo's petting area where they interacted and fed the grazing animals: goats, sheep etc. It was rewarding to watch the expressions of interest and happiness on the boys' faces and I am sure it was rewarding for them . A great experience.

Child-friendly, signs that are informative and easy to read, nice holiday activities & events. The exhibits could be bigger for the animals, but it's also NYC and space is rather limited. So it's understandable.

Nice little. I mean little zoo. Cant spend more then 2 hours here. After 2pm its free. So thats the best time to go. Parking is easy and free. I grew up at this zoo. And i take my son often. Especially if we need to kill a few hours in the day.

Nice grounds but not huge so easy to navigate. Good petting zoo and enough to keep the kids entertained.

Zoo on Staten Island is not big, but very proper one. There is a big variety of species… and a kid’s contact zoo area, where they can touch and play with hogs.

The Staten Island Zoo, is very famous for its snake exhibit. They have loads of animals here.,I always enjoy watching the monkeys interact with one another. This is a fun way to spend a family day out with the kids, ride the carousel and have something to eat. Admission is reasonable and is free on Wednesdays...If you aren't a resident of Staten Island you too are most welcome to visit.....you will not be sorry

This was my second visit to the zoo in 15 plus years. I took my cousin who was visiting from Canada. The entrance fee was very reasonable and street parking was no problem for a random weekday in late morning. I was pleasantly surprised at all of the different animals and exhibits there and I loved the petting zoo. Wish I had more change to buy more food pellets. I was sad to see just one tiger, she looked very lonely please give her a friend! I will definitely return next spring, when the weather is warmer and will spend more time. Please support this zoo, they seem To be doing a good job but definitely need more than just one kind of any animal...

Though small compared to some other NYC zoos, this one packs a wallop for it's size. Most parts are newly renovated are undergoing upgrading. They have an excellent reptile exhibit as well as African and Rain Forest environments. Emus, peacocks, domesticated farm animals, aquatic environments, and the like. The snack concession is hood too and staffed by developmentally challenged folks. Right across the street is Clove Lakes Park which you can add to your days outing.

Free parking, low admission cost, well-kept grounds with beutiful flowers. informative displays and a cafe with truly inexpensive prices! Docents were providing activities for children and answering guests questions. We all had a most pleasnt 3 hours here-lots of benches too for taking breaks

I visited this zoo with my grandchild and was disappointed. I had been there about 5 years prior when things were a lot nicer. The zoo needs a serious makeover .The exhibits smell the place is dirty and very used looking. I did observe many workers there but out of the 5 workers I observed only 1 was working the others were either on the cellphone or chit chatting to each other .There is no acknowledgement of the public as a hello or any type of greeting its as if they would prefer nobody was visiting even the woman at the pay booth was kind of annoyed that we were there .It is obvious that the budget for the zoo has been depleted to the point were it has become an eyesore and the workers are just going thru the motions.

The zoo is a terrific quick visit in a nice setting. The collection is a mixed bag , an excellent focused reptile snake collection , next to a poor aquarium. Very nice Serengeti enclosed area that highlights a dozen species well including small fry favorites lemurs and porcupines. We went as a couple and encountered tons of summer camp groups. Many happy kids having a good time, free parking ,minimum fee entry.

It's a nice little zoo nothing special I would not recommend traveling from another state or borough just to come to the zoo but if your here check it out its small takes up to 1 hour to see everything

I am a local have lived on Staten Island for all of my 65 years and the Staten Island Zoo has been a Hallmark of local Beauty and education ever since I was a little kid its Mission has changed as have all zoos the large animals that used to be housed here have long since been move to other more appropriate places but the Staten Island Zoo has invested much money in creating habitats for small mammals and birds it has a world-renowned rattlesnake exhibit thanks to the legendary Carl Kaulfield who was a collector of rattlesnakes during the 50s and 60s there's a lovely petting zoo for kids and the Barrett Park location is shaded and just across the street from clove Lake Park which is another wonderful Sanctuary on a hot summer day highly recommended.

Have 6 grandkids from 2 to 10. Something for all to be entertained! Kids loved the snakes & animals outside, especially prarie dogs. Older one, the petting zoo & info stops. Had a great day, plus free parking.

it has a few farm animals and those animals that look like an ostrich. that's about it. really a mediocre zoo for small kids under 8.

This Zoo isn't as large as the Bronx Zoo but there was a lot to see. Lots of cool animals and aquarium area. If you're pressed for time, this is a great place for a quick stop. You could see everything in under 2 hours

The zoo here is a nice, clean place with lots of animals. There was always someone around to answer questions if you wanted more information. I liked the mix of indoor and outdoor activities to mix things up. Great place for everyone, not just kids. This was a place I went on a date, and it was one of the best dates I've had.

The Staten Island zoo is small and very manageable. Especially great for small children. Interesting animals to see, fun special events, and a good amount of open space. I used to picnic there with my kids when they were younger but I do have to say their little concession makes some tasty foods. There's a petting zoo, pony rides, and a carousel too.

This zoo is best appreciated by children. It is somewhat cramped and the number of animals exhibited is limited.

I have loved going to this zoo since I was little. Great variety for all weather conditions. Just wish they would bring back the prairie dogs.

what a great place to spend a day. Just the right size. wonderful assortment of birds animals reptiles and other attractions

A lot of renovations going on, the space is not the cleanest, there are handfull of animals, petting farm is a joke... good for very small kid, but i would rather trek to nj for much better zoo

This zoo is pretty small compared to some of the zoos I've been to in other cities however if you are going with young kids this might be the perfect size to keep them interested and not tired.

I've been coming to the zoo since Inwas younger then my youngest, who is 2. They have expanded and grown so much since I was a child and am happy that I get to bring my children there. They have a carousel which is nice, it's $2 A child you have to purchase tokens for it. If your kids are very small 1 parent can ride with the child. They got rid of their pony rides, which stinks but the kiddie area where you can pet and feed the animals is nice.
If your expecting a huge zoo don't. I couldnt imagine spending more then 2 hours there.
The food is kind of meh and over priced but you can pack a lunch, they have picnic areas.
They have peacocks roaming around which is nice, nice until unruly kids chase them around stressing them out. Let's not do that. Control your children.

Great place to see all types of animals in their natural environments. Great job by the zoo! Cost is nominal and helps the animals too!

When kids were smaller it was nice but it has gotten even better in last few years and the improvements are noticeable. Leopards are stunning and rest of the zoo has been upgraded. Not much as far as big game animals other than leopards but snakes and otters and petting zoo for kids really nice.

After 3 super fun trips to the zoo this year already, we decided to join. I am excited to see the newly renovated aquarium when its finished! My son loves to chase after the chickens! Lots of fun summer afternoons will be spent here.

Kids love it. Well maintained and educational. Nice area for kids to run around as well after seeing all of the animals.

This was an amazing, quaint zoo nestled in the heart of Staten Island. It was easy to access / park (they have a lot) and the animals were quite varied and clearly well cared for. I enjoyed, will go again, and highly recommend!! also beautiful gardens.

Overall OK lacking animals..a lot of empty spots most of the fish aquariums were empty I guess they were renovating.. No more pony rides

We took our grandson here and while the zoo itself is small it had some really great exhibits. The experience could be greatly enhanced if the zoo would have staff do talks and education periodically throughout the day.

First off, the idea of a "zoo" is a terrible one, which profits from the exploitation of captive animals. Second off, if you're going to run a zoo at all, at least give the animals ample space to live. Their poor, purposeless lives are spent in cramped, smelly cages, while humans point & take photos of their plight. It is rare that people even think this way, but they should start. The Staten Island Zoo is just one zoo, but its so-called "habitats" are absolutely absurd. And then we wonder why large animals act out (and then get punished for it, but that's a separate issue). The meager amount of land this zoo has to house all of the animals is not nearly enough space to be even close to ethical.
If you want your children to learn about animals & nature, show them photos & let them watch videos. By bringing your child to the zoo, you're only instilling in them that mistreatment & lack of value of animals' lives are both acceptable.

The Staten Island Zoo is excellent for a small city zoo. the collection caters to kids and there is a petting zoo in the warm months. the reptile collection is strong.

If you have young kids, there are pony rides....that's always a thrill. Nice little zoo and if you're into snakes, it has a lot of species.

Wonderful zoo. Free on Wednesdays. Free parking in large lot close to rear Clove Road entrance. World class snake collection. Beautiful aviary and fish collection. Delightful farm animal petting zoo for young children. Large grounds to explore and picnic in. Grandparent's delight to explore with grandchildren!!!

A classic on Staten Island for as long as I've been alive, the Staten Island Zoo has grown exponentially over the past few years, and features a lot of one of a kind exhibits that you wouldn't expect in a zoo of this size.

The staten Island zoo is small but fun not a bad place to relax for a 1 or 2.. . They have the small pony rides and petting zoo.. The reptile section isn't too bad

SI zoo is just an underrated zoo. Having the NYC and Bronx zoo near, people don't think about the one in SI.
We took the kids and we had a great time. So many animals to see and the zookeepers are so nice. Kids had a blast playing around and learning new things. We loved the sneaks area.

Always a fun time at the Staten Island Zoo. Been going there since my kids were small. Now that they are older, they still have a great time there. It just gets a little crowded when the schools and camps go there on a field trip so, it might be better to go on a Saturday.

This is a zoo on the smaller side but still a good time. Some of the indoor areas are a bit smelly and some of the fish tanks seem as if they are not taken care of, but it's the only option on the Island.

Very well kept and a lot to see.in country setting.Bring the kids and pend the day in a hidden gem.Lots of animals to see.

Great place to get away with the kids for half a day. Not enough for a full days of activities, but we still live coming here, have a seasons pass.

The SI Zoo is a great local park zoo for small children for a day trip. There really isn't enough to do for a full day, but for a morning or afternoon separated by lunch or with a picnic...it's very enjoyable. There is a carousel that is only $3 which is cute too, and inexpensive enough to ride twice. Try to schedule going when the zoo has an interactive event ...which will make it more fun for the kids for sure

I've been taking my children there for years. It's a nice zoo and it's been renovated since my last visit. It's a great place for children ages 3 and up. During the summer months children are able to go into an area where they can pet the goats. There are also pony rides and a lovely aquarium. Grandparents and parents can enjoy a day with the little ones.

A place to enjoy and visit with your family. Our family and family friends always enjoyed a great day at the zoo. Not to big not to small just right for any age.

We like our local zoo, good exhibits, superb snake and reptile collection.
We wish the zoo stayed open until 6 or 7pm on the weekend in the summer. We also could have done without the grumpy closing time announcements screamed at us over the loudspeaker system. COULD HAVE DONE WITHOUT GRUMPY CLOSING TIME ANNOUNCEMENTS SCREAMED OVER LOUD SPEAKER SYSTEM.

I was pleasantly surprised by this zoo. Despite it's small size it has many interesting animals to see, and a petting zoo. The zoo was also quite reasonably priced. Our extended family group (containing a wide age range of children and adults) brought a picnic lunch with us and had a very enjoyable day. If you happen to be in the area, it's well worth the visit.

Small zoo but a nice few hours for small children. I have been here a few times with my kids until they got older and they always enjoyed it. Well kept and not overly expensive.

It's a fun indoor and outdoor place! A lot of various animals from all over! Great for just a day out! Good for rainy days too. Perfect for locals a little boring for tourists

A great place to go with the family. Good exhibits with the helpful staff. Also very educational. A wonderful place for class trips also.

Don't go expecting the Bronx Zoo. This is a nice, small zoo. We did spend about 90 minutes here and that is really all you need. The zoo is easy to walk around and for a small zoo, is nicely organized. Great for families with small kids, for sure. There's free parking in a lot across the street, which is great.
The only reason I am giving the zoo an "average" rating, is because of it's size. I wouldn't make a special trip for it, but it's worth it if you are nearby and love animals.
Beautiful peacocks wander the property and lots of animals are there waiting for their pictures to be taken.

Kids had so much fun, definitely will continue to take them to the zoo.they enjoy the animals, ride on the carousel.they also had fun petting and feeding the animals.people are friendly parking available awesome time.

I came to the zoo on a visit from the UK. I had to go solo as my friend I was visiting needed to go back to work. I was really surprised at how many wonderful animals they had. The animals seem well cared for and happy and the staff were all really friendly. My only minor comment would be I ate lunch in the cafe, only had a grilled cheese sandwich but the lady serving me didn't wear gloves when she was wrapping it up. Saw the same when she wrapped another person's burger. However the price was super cheap and tasted really nice. Great place for a little wonder around and its super popular with school visits.

The Staten Island Zoo is not the Bronx Zoo,it's a nice quaint zoo with an ample amount of animal exhibits to keep your children occupied for quite some time. it's nicer to go when the weather is nicer,so you can take advantage of the feeding area and the other outdoor exhibits….The Otters, pony rides, etc….It's a nice zoo to spend a morning or afternoon with your children.

It's not huge, but nicely laid out with interesting exhibits. Had been a long time since I visited, am now returning with the grandchildren. Added several new exhibits and an area to feed the animals. I only wish some of the animals had a larger area to move about in. My granddaughter kept on pointing to the carousel, but it was closed the morning we visited. It's only open on weekends and school holidays. $3 charge to ride and I believe it was $3 per adult and/child to feed the animals. Plenty of tables if you wanted to bring a bag lunch. Much quieter during the week. Heard it is packed late Wednesdays due to free admission.

It was not bad, some sections were going to be rebuilt and that will be a big improvement. I guess it is better than no zoo, The best part for us was the LARGEST RODENTS- wow were they huge. It certainly is not the Bronx Zoo. Most of the animals are small. If you don't have a zoo where you live or are bringing children is is fine. The carousel was only $2 a ride. The souvenirs were not expensive. It has a petting zoo too. One thing that did bug us is that you buy tickets at the ticket box, but no one collects them, and cheap people and families who you know can afford to pay just walk right by the ticket booth into the zoo without paying, So it appears tickets are really a donation - typical liberal NY style subsidizing. Please support the Zoo and pay if you can. I would not go on Wednesdays that are called "free" unless you want to be aggravated.

Never knew about Staten Island Zoo because it was no need for Zoo . All changed with my two year old granddaughter. We went once and can't stop coming back. Zoo showcase animals kids understand, unafraid and can totally relay to (thorough books, toys, movies...). Leopard was a start and remains a celebrity for our granddaughter still . After the first visit, where Leopard came over to the safety gate , she started to let everyone know that Leopard cannot eat her pit bull and that Leopard is her favorite based on his ,Leopard , clear understanding of how she will never let the Leopard to "upset" her pit bill. So, come on everyone , support SI Zoo. It's a never ending happiness. Make it even bigger and better.

This is a great place to spend a lazy afternoon. One of the largest reptile collections will be found here, along with many other unusual animals.

The zoo is a wonderful place to bring your children to spend a day watching and learning about wildlife. They have a large reptile house and a petting zoo fro the children to enjoy.

Staten Island Zoo is a small zoo that is comfortable to navigate. If You're taking a trip on the Ferry to Staten Island, don't miss this zoo.

Though this zoo is much smaller than Bronx Zoo, they do a lot with what they have. The animals seem happy and active. They have some great habitat designs for smaller animals that are a joy to watch. The staff is super friendly and they seem to really care about what they do. I usually find zoos a little depressing, but this one always has a fun, welcoming vibe. Great for kids or a date. I also love that they have chickens and peacocks roaming freely.

This is a perfectly good zoo for very young children to be excited about. They do have some programs for older youth to help actually do volunteer work, but its limited. Nice if your local, but I wouldn't travel far to see it.

It was very nice for a smaller zoo lots of reptiles some interesting animals overall nice day outfor family

A small Zoo located in Staten Island , NY. A good variety of animals, clean and very family friendly. Food concession with gift shop. Not an all day stop, maybe a few hours to see the whole zoo. Admission on Wednesday is free after 2pm with a donation of your choice! Free parking.

My kids loved it there. There is a biutiful garden where kids can feed the animals.Sheeps, goats lamas etc.Planty of chicken and ducks. For older kids there is a lot to see also.Crocks, monkey, snaiks and other reptiles.Nice freandly staff.

I can't say how many times we visited this zoo, but it is at least ones in the season :-) This zoo is small, but nice. You can pet farm animals such as sheep, goats and lama for 50 cents through the fence or pay $3 and go closer to them behind the fence. Zoo has small variety of animals outside and more inside. Now inside area of the zoo is closed for renovation. Zoo has nice carousel for kids $2 and also each weekend they do a performances with small animals where kids can get more information about animals and pet them.

Very nice zoo with many exhibits/animals. Good place to take the little ones, as entire visit can be done in less than two hours. Worth the stop.

The Staten Island Zoo is a great place to spend the day. Its fun for a date or to take the kids. there are many animals and attractions too see.

Many times, when we go to zoos, it's difficult to get up close to see the animals. The SI zoo was very different--you have an opportunity to truly experience different wildlife, and the staff are so friendly!

This is the perfect little kids zoo.A nice zoo for the kids 6 and under.I always took my daughter here when she was young. My wife took her toddlers here too with her day care job . Can't go wrong pack a snack for the kids and it's a good afternoon or morning trip.

I've been to this zoo a few times now, usually go every other year it's nice and clean but very small. I'm also used to the Bronx zoo so everything is small compared to that. Wed afternoon is free admission and they have petting zoo there also. Nice little place if u want to kill a few hours.

I really love this zoo. It's a nice size for little children. It has enough animals for children to really enjoy.

I live nearby so I walk thru on Wednesdays after 2pm and give a donation. Love seeing and hearing the peacock. Lots of animals and fish. Great place to spend an afternoon.

Fun zoo with lots to engage kids. Too bad they replaced pony rides with modern carousel but I guess less poop to scoop? Petting zoo and many varieties of animals indoor and out. Good any time. Easy parking in big lot across busy street. Take time crossing.

If you have kids or just like zoos and you are on SI it is worth a visit. It boasts a very large snake collection. It is easy to get to from ferry.

This Zoo has a little bit of everything...from exotic animals to opportunities to interact with farm animals, to educational options, to beautiful grounds. Not hard to cover the whole zoo with your little ones in tow, and if you bring supper for the kids after 4 on Wednesdays, you get in for free. It is also really close to the park, which is also beautiful. Well worth the trip over the Verazzano or the Goethals.

Best small zoo in the U.S. Good family outing. Good petting zoo. Has the World Famous Staten Island Chuck Groundhog.

Volunteers walked around showing us animals. Got to touch a leopard gecko, rat snake, and Chinese lizard. They had a petting zoo and you could feed the animals.

It's not the Bronx Zoo but my grandson still loves going there we me and discussing animals and biology at 11 years. Just took my 8 month old there for for the first time. He just had a calm interested look for over an hour -- I'll have to wait until he's older to ask him what that meant.

They have everything little kids need. They have pony rides, petting zoo. Variety of animals small place to get food and gifts. Great way to spend a day very educational for kids

This zoo is great for kids of all ages because the younger ones will enjoy seeing the huge array of animals they have, including an aquarium and exotic animals from other parts of the world, as well as the petting zoo. The older ones will enjoy the educational aspect of the zoo and the staff is super knowledgeable and helpful. It is very affordable and every Wednesday past 2, the zoo is free (donations accepted) for all. A must see if visiting New York City of if you live in one of the five boroughs.

Nice place to spend a few hours - quiet, great layout for little ones. We took our three year old and teenagers - everyone was happy. They have several "selfie spots" set up for photos, a nice play area, and a very nice collection of beautiful animals to learn more about.

There was a capybara, would recommend i love capybaras. Capybara=life #lovingthecapys the only think i would say is that the capybara was a bit lonely, i informed a member of staff about this and asked if i could take it home.she said no.

I actually took my little for her birthday in 2012. We all loved it! The little ❤️ed all the animals.

I have been here a couple of times over the years. They have a really good reptile area. It never disappoints. They have a pretty good sized petty zoo. Some aquariums and other exhibits.

Great lizard exhibit and those small monkeys are a hoot. Nice small zoo on Staten Island that's also known to house Staten Island Chuck, our version of the winter predicting rodent.

This little sleeper of a zoo was adorable, inexpensive and unique. You can get pretty close up to the animals and some areas you can touch or feed them. Peacocks roam freely and baby nursery was adorable. Even Staten Island Chuck was out and about. Many animals were asleep when we got there but walking back through on our way out they were awake. Toucan was so pretty - really nice place -
Very easy to get to as well -

Excellent location with ample parking. Very friendly staff. Tons of cute (and not so cute) animals.
Activities for kids throughout the day, outside and as well indoor attractions.
Perfect way to spend the day.

Best reptile exhibit nex too San Diego Zoo!
Great holiday fun for all, Holloween great.
One first zoo's to do Walking With Dinosaurs. Great Exhibit.
Also nice animal corral for children.

I took my class to the Staten island zoo in June and they had a fabulous time. the children really enjoyed having a picnic lunch and watching all the animals.

We go every year, this is a very nice family outing great for Halloween when they have the pumpkin patch.

This zoo is a wonderful place to visit. It is no too large and the improvements are amazing. I used to go with my children and now going with my grandchild. It is well maintained and is a lovely feel to it.

It is small but very friendly and informative zoo. My kids know this place by heart but visit 3-4 times a year. They always have something new and interesting. My kids love to pet goats, lamas and sheeps.

The Staten Island zoo is small - definitely just a few hours will do. Parking is free (a plus). There are few animals but some that are pretty cool to see. They have a kids petting zoo part. The maps (if you can find them) are hard to understand so I am not sure if I saw everything or not.

It's a nice small zoo which is very pleasant and well organized. Our favorite animals are an arctic fox and an Amur leopard. It's a great place for kids: not too overwhelming and not crowded at all.

The section that contains the fish definitely needs a re-haul.
This zoo has added some new attractions and it has enhanced the the overall visiting experience. Well maintained for a local zoo. A good way to spend a morning/afternoon with the kids.

Just moved to Staten Island and started to explore the area I have a 7 year old and decided to try the zoo. We both loved it, people are courteous, it's a friendly environment, and my daughter had a great time seeing all the animals they had. Great for small children.

This is a great little zoo. Always expanding and improving. Beautiful Carousel. Cute petting zoo. Great for little one andbigger kids.

I was pleasantly surprised at how the Staten Island Zoo has improved in a year. I recently visited with my two grandsons, who at from out of state, and we loved every thing. It was very clean, the animals were easy to see and we got to see the snakes eat. There is also a park area on the Broadway side for the children to play. It was a very nice day.

Although this zoo is fairly small, it has an amazing array of animals. It's a great place to spend the day. It has a very large selection of snakes and monkeys. There are alligators, otters (my favorite), as well as a petting zoo with goats, llamas, and deer. Wednesdays are free admission although donations are appreciated. Look into the educational experience where you are able to learn about and pet some animals. Not sure if this is offered to everyone but it is offered to schools.

Save your money and do not go to the zoo in Staten Island. Besides the free ferry ride over in which we saw the Statue of Liberty close and the nice view of NYC from the water, this was a horrible waste of 2 hours. All of the reptile and aquarium smell so putrid you cannot be in these buildings for more then 5 minutes. There are boring animals and really nothing exotic. After 45 minutes we left extremely disappointed and wished we would have planned another activity like the zoo at Central Park.

This is a great and different idea for a child's birthday party. The party included the room with table set-up for the kids to make animal mask, paper goods, small animals they bring in to the room for kids to learn about and pet. They also supply pizza and juice boxes. with a complimentary ride on the carousel. Try it - your kids will love it.

This zoo is a clean and well planned zoo. The kids will love it. I recommend it price wise as well.. A must do on your list of activities..

We got in free because we have a membership at a reciprocal zoo. Without the pass it would cost $8?, not expensive. Since it's a city zoo, it has fewer animals. Some of the highlights were the kangaroos, emus, giant rabbit (I never saw one so big!). It's got a petting zoo area which is an additional $3.00. It also has an amazing collection of venomous snakes. The cafeteria is run down. But overall it's a great excursion for young children. I would recommend it and go again if I'm in Staten Island.

The Staten Island Zoo is a little gem. The zoo combines in house exhibits and outdoor exhibits and a nice little children's zoo. There is also a aquarium featured. You can grab a little snack or bite to eat in the cafe. Small little gift shop reasonably priced. It is a nice visit. All the animals seem very well taken care of.

Took my grandchildren, they liked the zoo but were disappointed since the zoo is so small. They need to get more animals, most of the animals were nit out.

World-class reptile collection, nicely landscaped grounds, great for small children, and adults, too. I like to pet the animals, too! Be sure to visit when they have special events, such as the Halloween Spooktacular.

I hadn't visited the Staten Island Zoo in quite a while, so I recently went with a friend. It is a small zoo with an emphasis on reptiles. They do not have big animals like elephants and giraffes, but they have an interesting collection of critters. The signs detail a lot of information about each resident, and an animal lover of any age will enjoy a visit to this S.I. treasure.

The Staten Island zoo has come along way... They have made a lot of improvements and exhibits .. For a quick day out it is great for the kids who can go on the carousel, check out the alligators and monkeys and have a snack 👍🏻💗💙

I always enjoy visiting this zoo either with my family, friends or on a class trip. It's never too crowded and they always have a great selection of animals. I heard the boo at the zoo is amazing but books up fast.

love this zoo it huge and there are so many diffrent animals you get to see plus love that I can go for free on Wednesdays

This is a nice Little Zoo, not too big like Bronx which will require all of your day & then some & tire you. Has enough to keep small kids excited. They also have some programs where they show some small animals & also let you test touch some of them(like a small snake).
They have a decent collection of animals, ranging from, Fox, Eagle, Owls to Cats (leopard & wild cat) to Snakes(quite a good variety of them) and sea lion
They also have a nice carousel for kids & small eatery. Also a small play area with some dummy animals which toddlers enjoy.
Overall good place to spend few hours. I agree with another reviewer that this is good to visit if you stay near by i.e. within an hour of travel nothing beyond that.

We've visited the Staten Island Zoo dozens of times over the years and it's always a hit. From the time my husband and I were dating (like 25-30 years ago) to now when we go as a family with my 16 year old daughter - always something new to see. Always clean and a nice few hours of interesting things to learn about. Parking is close and free and we went after 2 pm on a Wednesday, so you can enter for free or for a donation of your choosing. Otherwise, it's about $10 for adults and less for children.
Shady stroll to see the many outdoor exhibits and several buildings with everything from alligators to snakes to birds to tiny monkeys and bats. There's a small petting zoo/farm animal area that small kids will love and they don't rook you for the food to feed the animals. They are always making improvements (the aquarium area is being updated now). Great fun that won't break the bank. There's also a nice park just beyond the parking area with walking trails and a lake.

While not a large zoo, the Staten Island Zoo has an excellent and renown collection of snakes. In a city with several well known zoos, Staten Island's zoo is a bit of a sleeper, but it is both informative, and has a good variety of animals and activities for both old and young.

not as big s the bronx zoo obv. but it's on the island and has great exhibits and i love seeing animals, no matter where it is lol

This zoo is good but very small, you can be done with the whole thing in less than 2 hours, good for kids 12 and under.

The zoo is perfect to bring small kids. There is plenty for them to do from looking at the different animals to being able to interact with the more domesticated kind, like the goats and llamas. Every Wednesday my cousin takes the child she cares for, who is on the spectrum, to the zoo and it is one of the highlights of his week. He greatly enjoys the experience. Wednesday is when the zoo offers reduced fare prices, so I would highly recommend going for a cheap, but fun experience.

We have visited the SI Zoo many times and we always have a fun afternoon. My children enjoy the baby animals exhibits and riding on the horses. It's not a big zoo but just enough to have a great experience.

While it is not the huge Bronx zoo, it is just enough for the little ones. They have a carousel, a wind machine, petting zoo, reptile and acquarium collection, monkeys, a gift shop and a small cafe. There is enough interactive experiences to keep little ones occupied. There is plenty of parking across the street and if you go on Wednesday after 2pm you can get in for a donation. Bring change so it is easier to buy feed for the petting zoo. This is a great, no hassle place to bring the kiddies. Clove Lakes Park is very near to the zoo so if you want to have a picnic, watch the ducks, ride a boat in the summer this beautiful park is close enough. Near the park is a Dunkin Donuts and a 7-11 (Clove Road and Victory) you will need the coffee to keep up with the kids : )

Food is really good. We enjoyed the three fish antipasto. The smoked muscles and salmon were great. The smoked lox was really good too.

family was in from out of town the zoo was very clean staff very helpful and friendly restrooms where very clean snack bar was nice a very relaxing place to visit for the family

I am affiliate of the SI Zoo. For good reason. The focus of the Zoo is education and they do this right. A variety of creatures, a variety of environments, this is a gem.

My Grandchildren And I Had A Lovely Day At The Staten Island Zoo .This Day Their Were A Lot Of People And Children Visiting The Zoo .My Grandchildren Enjoyed Watching The Animals And Was So Excited To See The Monkeys Eat The Bananas And Swing On The Trees .We Also Ate Lunch There
Children Were Very Excited To Help Feed Some Of The Animals And Pet Them .Staff Are Very Helpful And Have Nice Working Attitude .Come On Out And Visit The Staten Island Zoo And Also Their Is A Nice Ymca Right Across The Street .Bus Stop And Stores In Area .So Let The Fun In The Sun Begin

The Staten Island Zoo has come a long, long way from how it was when I was a kid and there was just rows and rows of barred cages and concrete floors. Today there are well cared for natural looking enclosures and for the smaller animals these appear perfectly fine. But there are a few larger mammals where (IMHO) the enclosure still appears too small for them. There is a small aquarium section that is very well maintained, and their new reptile exhibit is second to none. They also have a pretty interesting invertebrate exhibit where all sorts of tarantulas, exotic roaches and other creepy crawlers are maintained. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area.

Perfect spot for small children. Clean and friendly zoo. Just enough to keep the littles ones busy. Great areas to
Picnic. The kids loved feeding the animals.

We had a wonderful time. The Zoo has many attractions and many interactive exhibits for children of all ages. Having said that, I still haven't grown up and love going to the Staten island Zoo.

Parking is free, there are specials on certain days. My kids love to feed the animals and that was available too. I also like how some if it was indoors so you could cool off from the heat.

Having lived most of my life on Staten Island , I have been to this zoo many times. I think for a small zoo it does have a nice charm to it. They have a decent selection of animals and aquatic species to look at
But compared to the other big zoos they don't have Lions , Tigers , Elephants. But if you want a relaxing day without walking miles and miles to see animals, this zoo is for you. The whole zoo can be completed in about 2 hours or less. Also the admission price is very reasonable at just $8.00 for Adults kids are $6.00. I would definitely recommend this zoo.

Entrance into the zoo is so cheap and child friendly. It is a great way to keep kids entertained while also letting them interact and see animals! If it's cold out, the indoor areas are still great to view but it is probably best to go during the spring and fall. The zoo usually has different animals on display during different parts of the year so it is always worth a trip back! The little cafe is kinda lacking but I don't think anyone goes to the zoo to eat. Plus being so close to Forest Avenue, better off making a day out of it and hitting up any of the many great restaurants in the area!

This is Bruce the zoo guy doing a review of the Staten Island Zoo in New York. This is a small to smaller medium-sized Zoo. There are none of the big animals here like elephants giraffes rhinos hippos or anything like that. There are quite a few though of the medium size the smaller animals as well as Birds. The zoo could use some attention to keeping it clean. Most of the enclosures here look like they do the minimal amount to get accredited as a zoo. They need to pay more attention to detail and get these things clean and more animal friendly. Even the paths in all the foliage was quite a mess. Did like the main building which is kind of a rainforest atmosphere that had some monkeys and fish in other animals. Other than that was not very satisfied. And parking here is a joke.

I see so many kids here, may be since this is a small zoo they love to visit often. The price is very cheap so you can visit any times you want.

Visited this summer with my God daughter and 11 year old daughter. Its an ok zoo!! My god daughter enjoyed it,a first time experience for her which was nice! But this zoo is missing more,if u want families with kids of all ages u must keep them wanting more! Make exhibits more exciting!!

The Staten Island Zoo is just enough of a zoo for little children. It keeps their interest without the Bronx zoo type of mental wearing out. Would recommend at least one time.

Great way to spend a couple hours. My cousin was his town w her 2 young children. We took a bus from Manhatten to get there. I wasn't expecting much. I was delightfully surprised by all of the interesting animals. A very nice children's corner where you can buy and feed more domestic animals. Clean and the animals seem well cared for.

We visited here on Wednesday afternoon as they offer free entry on that time. The zoo is cozy, not a big one like we have in Tokyo. Still, a variety of animals live there and surely my 1-year-old son enjoyed it.
The bus we took from the Ferry Terminal was very crowded; not ideal when accompanied by a small child. It is a short walk from the nearest busstop.
A good half-day-out spot.

Small zoo but young kids will love it! My daughter loves it but I can only assume older kids will be bored. If you look for something on the level of the Bronx zoo you will be disappointed but if it is a day out with a small child then it is a little gem of a find.

Small zoo done well, I have been going for 20 years and still love it! Easy to get to, lots to see, and kids love it. I think they still have a free day once a week.

Wonderful small zoo (8 acres). Most of it is contained indoors (3 wings). The outside areas contain many animals including the largest Amur Leopard exhibit in the US and a petting zoo for the kids. It can all be seen in a couple of hours and well worth the visit.

is a great day trip for grandparents to take the little ones. Not crowded, and definitely will help the kids forget the world of "devices." From wandering with the sheep and goats to pet and feed them, taking a ride on the carrousel, to petting a snake and learning how they shed their skin, there i always something to keep the little ones interested. No big animals, except for the alligators that are part of its well known reptile exhibit, but you don't even notice their absence, as there is do much other things to see and experience. A great afternoon trip that won't break the bank.

I always enjoyed taking my kids to the Staten Island Zoo , when they were small. Now that they are grown and married they take their kids. They tell us that they had many fun memories there. The zoo is small , but very exciting for young kids . I think they still have pony rides. If you go to the zoo on Wednesdays its free , they would like you to give a small donation to help the zoo. There is free parking across the street. I would suggest to bring some lunch with you . It can get a little pricy to eat there. It is worth the trip.

A great place to go and get away.A very good selection of animals and if you like snakes this is the place to go.

My kids love the ZOO and we try to visit often. Our little girl really loves every visit there and loves the playground with big fake snake. A really cool attraction right here in our neighborhood.

The SI Zoo is a great place to spend the day, or many days, for that matter. We have had Family Passes for years (They are a great value as they also allow free admission to Lots of zoos, including TurtleBack Zoo in NJ, and several zoos we went to in Hershey, PA and Philadelphia, PA), and my kids, no 8 and 5, never get tired of it. They have been expanding and adding to it quite a bit recently, while still maintaining that close-up small zoo atmosphere. There is a lot to do outdoors, including their version of a Petting Zoo with lots of Farm Animals and their new Leopard enclosure, but also lots indoors if you are concerned with the weather. It is easy to get to, and parking is ample and free. Admission is inexpensive, in case you are not a member. Staff are friendly, and it is a beautiful place to walk around or let the kids run. We don't usually take advantage of the food sold on the premises, so I do not have much to add about that, but we do bring food and enjoy it under their covered dining area. We highly recommend our Staten Island Zoo.

Love the zoo. It is a great small zoo and very manageable. Great for younger kids too with a special section just for them. The zoo is divided into the savannah, the rainforest and the reptile wing. The exhibits are informative and the animals are close up.

Fun way to pass a few hours with little ones. Some new attractions have been introduced. Docents are always available to inform and educate

The zoo is the perfect size for small visitors. Being a "smaller" zoo, the animals are closer for better observation. You can cover the entire zoo in just a couple of hours (or longer), which is great to get everyone moving and keep their interests. Highly recommended for families with younger children.

The Staten Island Zoo is better than ever. The exhibits are much better now with an emphasis of getting close to animals. there are many programs manned by volunteers which make it a community effort.

One of Staten Island's "Treasures"!!! Wonderful place for the whole family. Great exhibits, great staff! I get such a sense of "peace" and relaxation whenever I visit.

The zoo is very nice, the people are sweet, and it's not too big that your little ones will get exhausted. It's a really nice trip!

My 5 year old likes it and so did my wife and I. My 19 year old was amused. It’s not a large zoo and i wouldn’t make the trip there if i didn’t live so close but it’s a fun day out of the house.

The Staten Island zoo is a wonderful hidden NYC gem. Although it's NOT affiliated with the other NYC zoos, it still advocates conservation and education for wildlife in the world. It has fun statues for selfies, a delightful, affordable CAROUSEL, one of the best reptile exibits I've ever seen, picnic tables, children's zoo, delicious affordable food, free parking, and a lovely variety of animals in fun, stimulating settings.
Things I wish they had: electric scooters to rent, more access to the nursery: perhaps a live feed?
Oh! And of course the Staten Island Zoo has NYC'S own CHUCK THE GROUNDHOG!!! [who has a better record than that phony Phil....just sayin'....]

Must say who ever takes care of this diamond of a Zoo Great job keep up the good work that you guys do there. The Kid not only had a great experience, but also had an education.
Thank You
Jim R

I went on a sunday to thee zoo with my grandson, daughter, and husband.
we all had a great time. My grandson really enjoyed feeding the animals and watching the kangaroo. thumbs up to the zoo.

Zoo is very dull and boring. No shows interaction with animals or birds Nthing that catches a child's eye. Needs to be painted with color

SI zoo os average zoo. Parking is not too bad and staff is helpful. Not for anything sometimes you feel the people visiting the zoo escaped. I found visitors pushy, sone rude and kids without manners. Spend day at Bronx zoo,at least they have room for the visiting animals to spread out...

The SI Zoo is a cute place to walk around with your children. I have been on many class trips with y students there and they always enjoy themselves.

If you're in Staten Island, the zoo is a nice visit. Street parking as well as a pay for parking lot are available. The zoo has some nice attractions and is very kid friendly.

Took my 5 and 3 year old grandsons. We had great time. Military and their dependents get in free. Also if you have the National zoo pass, this one is included which means your membership fees allow free access for you and however many guests you have prepaid for on the annual pass,. If not, it cost 11.00 for adults and I believe. 6.00 for children. I have been to many big city zoos in my lifetime and while this is a smaller zoo it is not without its charms. It has a 1970's feel. The animals are up close and personal. The area designated for feeding and petting has a rustic feel with adorable animals. There is an indoor attraction filled with fish, birds, smaller animals and a learning center where the kids can get up close and personal. To parrots, turtles, etc, . Out back is a play area and nice walkway where chickens and peacocks come right up to you. It may not be the biggest and best zoo I have been too, but it is filled with Zootopia charm, a nice place to spend the day..

Great for families. Staff stationed throughout zoo with small animals (turtles, reptiles etc) Very knowledgeable. Petting zoo for additional fee but can also pet through fence. Feeding area for animals.

This is not a big Zoo, so you can complete it with just a few hours. Kids love it. Not expensive, plenty for all ages to enjoy.

With time to kill in Staten Island we decided to check out the zoo. We did not have much time before it closed but decided to try it anyway. 2 hours is plenty of time. The zoo was clean, had lots of shade, and there was a nice selection of animals. We enjoyed feeding some of the animals such as lambs, rams, pot belly pig, and more. The exhibits inside were just as cool as the ones outside. Be sure to check them out. We found the "Tropics" on to be our favorite. It is fun to walk by all the wondering peacocks on the loose. Overall we had a nice time and would recommend the zoo, esp. for young children that might be too tired at a larger zoo.
Tip: Bring hand sanitzer and or wipes if you are planning on feeding the animals.

An excellent Zoo for children of all ages !
Very wide variety of well-fed & well-kept animal kingdom "specimen" types...enjoyable even for very young children...
Several visits prior to 2015

A great way to spend a day with your children. Small and not much walking a great place to visit for all ages. Also my favorite was the petting zoo all the animals are awesome and oh so so friendly.
Small but good
It's on the small side, but has a lot to offer. Great reptile exhibit, lots of fish, a petting zoo, and other animals. The size means it won't take a full day to see everything if you're an adult and perfect for kids since there's not a lot of walking.
