Stephen and Tabitha King's house is a must do drive by if you are in Bangor. Gone are the days of them handing out candy to the kiddies on Halloween but you may still catch a glimpse of the author of horror taking a walk in the neighborhood when he is in town. Do take a photo of your fellow travelers in black and white in front of the house to capture the essence of the thrill.

It is a quick stop to see this beautiful home surrounded by other beautiful homes in the neighborhood. The gates are unique and if you are a SK fan then this a must stop.

Tip, if there is a tour bus just drive around a minute and it will be clear. The gate was open but I’m not sure if its open to the public.

I had known that he lived in Maine and had seen photos if his house, so while we were in Maine I looked to see how far away it was. It wasn't too far so we went to it. It is so unique, especially the fence! That is my favorite part. While we were there, there was a crow sitting on top of the house crowing! It was so perfect!! I had read that people had been leaving red balloons, so I thought there were going to be lots of them, but there was only one that each person posed with and then reclipped to the fence.

I’m a diehard Stephen King fan so I have always wanted to see his house in Bangor in real life. I live on the West coast of Canada so when I traveled East this summer I made a point of visiting. It was a really neat experience to see the house and the neighbourhood it is located in.

Great tour, great house, recommendation highly if you are a Stephen King fan. People
Very friendly. Saw the water tower from It.

We stopped here after breakfast for a quick look and a photo. The neighborhood has some beautiful big old homes; worth a walk if you have time. We were there about 10 minutes and there was a steady stream of people pulling up, posing and helping each other with photos. It was fun talking with people.

Beautiful old home. They have added onto the back making the whole house about a block long but the front still has its original architectural integrity. The wrought iron fence is incredible with spider and dragon accents. Guest house next door has an interesting story too. Neighborhood is lovely. Well worth seeing if you are even a modest SK fan.

I cannot imagine people dropping by my home to take pictures outside the gates but that is exactly what we did at the home of Stephen King. He lives in a normal neighborhood with normal people and his home is awesome! We did not go in, of course, but we did take pictures outside with his really awesome Stephen King Worthy gate. It was cast iron cobwebs and bats. HOW COOL. Passerby's said it is pretty cool living in the same area as him and they said he was really down to earth.

We were in town for the night and it was on our way, so why not go take a photo or two. Easy to park across street. Nothing I would make a special trip to do.

Beautiful estate the grounds were well groomed, the wrought iron fencing was amazing, loved the bats and three headed dragon, the home is one of the oldest in the area

The sculpture that Tabitha King commissioned for the tree trunk was exquisite. It contained various animals and artifacts from King's novels and movies. Also, the King's are wonderful at supporting literacy and funding various needs in Bangor and the State of Maine. For some reason my photo of the tree insisted on loading upside down.

A walk by activity. The house is surrounded by interesting fencing with bats and spiders and tree that has been designed into a fun wood sculpture that has new things to notice each time you look at it. The wood sculpture was the highlight of the visit. The Victorian house is unique in Bangor and fits nicely in with the lot. You cannot go inside.

Do understand that you cannot tour the house, and the famous author almost never comes out if he is there. Interesting "totem pole" carved tree. Gate is appropriate and interesting - spiderwebs and dragons.

I have to agree with a previous rater that is it hilarious that we are rating someone's house! But, it is Stephen King after all, and his writing has influenced a couple of generations of horror-genre culture. It is a beautiful home on a beautiful street. Most of the houses in this area are immaculately kept. Plus, Bangor has a small-town feel to it - so I can appreciate the pilgrimage to this spot. There is something very human in trying to connect with someone by visiting the places they live(d) and worked. Well worth the short drive-by if you are in the area - plus driving by is free :)

Beautiful house. I was disappointed that I was there two different days the week of Halloween and it was not decorated at all. I thought the Stephen King house would be spooky.

I am a big fan of Stephen King and had wanted to see his house forever so it was a real thrill to actually stand in front of the place where he spent such a large part of his life. The house definitely has his "vibe" and there is a tree outside that had to cut down but in SK style they had the trunk carved into this amazing sculpture. Highly recommend seeing it in the fall with all the leaves changing. Be sure to walk around the block and look at some of the other amazing homes in this neighborhood.

I have not read any of Stephen King’s books but I have seen some movies based on his books. I expected the house to be a bit unusual. The house itself was a beautiful Victorian house in a nice residential neighborhood. Outside the hours I found what I expected…a black widow spider fence, dragons, frogs and an unusual wood sculpture. Many people stopped to look at SK’s house and the house provide great photo opportunities.

While you can't go inside this lovely home, it is still worth a drive-by and quick stop. It is especially stunning in the fall.

Beautiful house owned and lived in by an amazingly talented writer. It was lovely to meet people from around the world as they stop by to see where a true national treasure lives. You should follow him on Twitter as well.

beautiful house. The wood carving was so cool.So many people stopping by to snap pictures. The gate was so cool

I mean it's Stephen King of course his house is going to be epic! It's actually right off the main highway and very accessible with plenty of street parking. It also felt really private so don't worry about bothering anyone who lives there since it's far back enough from the street. We met a couple other fans which was cool. And during October it was very atmospheric.

It’s a house.
It has cool wrought iron gates.
It’s well, a house where a famous guy lives with his wife.
Done. That’s it.

This Victorian mansion sits in a very pretty shaded neighborhood at 47 West Broadway and is not open for tours. We parked across the street and walked over to look through the fence at the house. The wrought iron gates are decorated with bats, spiders, and webs, and there are gargoyles on the fence posts at the corner. There is a very impressive tree carving on the left side of the lawn so be sure to zoom your camera on that. I read later that Stephen King and his wife have given the house over to a nonprofit to be archives for his work.

How cool is it that prolific author King advertises his home?! Just neat to be here and experience the neighborhood... Thank you sir!

Beautiful house and fans keep stopping by, taking pictures and leaving red balloons! The fence is a work of art!

We completed our Bangor pilgrimage with a stop at the famous King estate. My daughters thought it was very cool to see the house of the author of "It". Both daughters took multiple photos near the gates etc. There was a tour guide who drove up with a family and started to tell them stories about the famous author - we learned a lot for a 100% discount

Ok, sure, I felt like a total tourist but there I was. I'm a huge Stephen King fan. I feel bad for Stephen, hopefully he appreciates the complement. It's a quick stop, nothing else to do there but take a picture in front of the fencing or gate. There was a another family there so we swapped cameras and took pics of each other, passed cameras/phones back and went on our way.

Really nice place to see! Really beautiful place to visit and see! We took lots of pictures to remind us of our trip!

We stop to see the Stephen King house every time we are in Bangor. It is really easy to get to and it is right on the street, so it is also easy to take pictures of. The iron fence has bats on it and is really spooky. Very neat architecture. Check it out if you’re in town!

This is a beautifully maintained private home with a unique wrought iron fence that perfectly suits the owner, author Stephen King. I don’t think there are too many fences featuring bats, spider webs and a three-headed monster! Easy to find, near some good eateries (splurge at Frank’s Bakery!) and definitely well worth a quick viewing. Easy to find curb parking in a lovely neighborhood with wide streets. Bangor has some fantastic and beautiful old homes and this is one of them. There were a few other respectful and quiet folks admiring the home/taking photos when we came by with others arriving as we left.

Stop by and respect the privacy of the King home on West Broadway, the wrought iron fence will give away that you are at the right house! The Kings are a very generous and well respected members of the Bangor Community!

Walking around the Bangor downtown area we found The House by accident. It was fun to see and all the other tourists in this beautiful neighborhood...

While in Bangor, I knew that I absolutely wanted to swing by Stephen King's House, so that was our first stop after breakfast. It's apparently not uncommon for fans to take photographs out front. When we got there, there was only one other car. As we went to walk across the street, the lady in the car flagged me over and told me that the house next door was actually his library.

Lifetime memories of watching Stephen King and all of his novels/movies, so we decided to take a ride through Bangor, Maine and were not disappointed. If you're in the area, stop by and take some photo opp's and see this marvelous house with all of it spooky gates and bat features.

Fun to walk past and gawk! Whole street has lovely homes and huge canopy trees. Makes a good picture to send to all your Stephen King fan friends.

February 2021
On my son’s advise, we drove the surprisingly short route out of our way to see SK’s house. I was surprised to see how “in town” and really “normal” his house was...i expected something so much different! However.. let me say, if nothing else, the iron gate/fence, seemingly “ out of place” frog statue and the beautiful wood sculpture were definitely different and worth the visit! If you’re in the area of Bangor,ME,please do make this surprisingly short drive to see this place...DEFINITELY WORTH IT! (and if you're into the “Little Roadside Libraries” as i am,... you will find one next door to SK’s house..:to the left of his house, at the sidewalk/road!)...and NO, there were no SK books in there!😂.
HAVE A WONDERFUL VISIT!!😁

Not open to the public, simply a drive-by to see that he lives rather simply on a public street with neighbors on each side and the front door not 50 feet from the street. He's a citizen of the community from what it looks like.

Although it felt a bit weird to stop and photograph Stephen King’s home, I’m really glad we did. Besides viewing the house (and guest house) from outside of the uniquely designed wrought iron gates, our tour guide offered some interesting trivia about the large green frog, and how the Kings came to acquire their guest house. There were a number of homes available for sale in SK’s neighbourhood so we even got to dream about being neighbours. Sadly he didn’t pop out to say hello but clearly he can’t be doing that everyone someone stops for a photo opportunity.

Many people stand in front, to have their photos taken. The owners, are well known writers in Bangor, Maine.

The thought of seeing one of America's most beloved horror authors conjures sinister throughs in one's mind...what will I see. Well, Mr. King's house is quite charming and the most sinister thing is the elaborate wrought iron fence with spiders, dragons, and such. You can go up to the gate, stare, and take pictures...but that's much of it. Bit of advice - get there early as tour buses will come and take up every view. (Bonus for us....when we visited there was a single red balloon in the front window)

We came up to Bangor for a concert, but decided to waste time and go here. Worth the trip! The house is beautiful and it was easy to park and take as many photos as you’d want.

A free selfie landmark to go park and grab a selfie. Check out the front gate, spooky! Also check out while in town Pet Cemetery and the man hole that gave Stephen motivation to write IT! Hope your not afraid of clowns lol

Got goosebumps finally visiting the maestro’s house . Coming all the way from Germany . Well maintained building , several King fans in front of it taking pictures .

I don't know, I guess, because I come from an area where beautiful Victorian homes are plentiful this was not impressive. If you're a hard-core King fan, I'm sure you'll feel differently.

We parked on a side street and strolled the neighborhood walking by Stephen King's house. Easy to find using Google Maps and there is street parking right in front of his house as we saw someone parking there and jumping out to take a picture. The tree in the pictures on the left of the house has been carved into an amazing carving with a variety of images, ravens, and nods to his work. That is something to see in and of itself. The ironwork on the gate is nice and this house and other houses in the neighborhood are incredible to enjoy the architecture and history. It's great to explore the area that he writes about in some of his books.

Former home of writer Stephen King. The house was built in 1854 and is a rare example of the Italianate villa style architecture. The home is now maintained by the Stephen and Tabitha king foundation and does lots of unheralded good deeds for the community. Like most private homes, you can’t go in unless invited. Like vampires.

this was once a lumber barons home and Stephen did a total remodel yet kept the great look of the home
the fence has bats and gargoils on each picket. It is on West Broadway in Bangor Maine

Easily drove right up to the front of the house and snapped a few pics. Very cool, gothic inspired fence surrounding the house.

I'm such a fan as are my wife and daughters. My girls work at a summer camp in Maine and while visiting them, we took a day to drive to Bar Harbor/Acadia. Bangor is right on the way so I thought we'd check out Stephen Kings house. First off, it's super easy to find. Second, the compound is beautiful and it's in a nice neighborhood. People who were stopping were respectful and quiet. But I do have to say sorry to Stephen King just because it's a little weird for an adult male and his family to stop in front of someone else's house just to gawk. I did, however, find it interesting that there was a lost pet poster stapled to a pole across the street.....real or tongue in cheek? Had to peek over my shoulder to look for men in yellow coats.

My wife and I were traveling, stayed in Bangor one night. What is there to do in Bangor? Not a lot, but to see the famous SK house is at the top of the list. My wife has many of his books, I have read just a few, and have seen more than a few movies made from his writing. His mind is an amazing place, so what kind of house would he live in? I guess this one fits his character somewhat. Here is the mystery though, why did he have a home that is so visible and easy to see? It is not a big home, though some may call it a "mansion" it is not. It is a normal size two story home with a couple of towers. What makes it unique is that he really owned and lived in it. More interesting is the fence and unique gate. Also the large wooden sculpture in the yard...was it really his? Who knows? It is a beautiful neighborhood with other larger Victorian homes nearby and very large and majestic trees shading the street.
One thing that was annoying while we were there, was that a family pulled up, parked facing the wrong way in front of the house with back end of the car kitty wampus and poking out into traffic. The four of them jumped out of the car leaving the doors wide open on the car, then acting stupid and goofy in front of the house. Fortunately, they only stayed about 2 minutes. They reminded me of some of the goofy/strange people King writes about in his books. Ha ha.

Drove by to see his previous house. He no longer lives there. I’ve heard they are going to making it a Stephen King museum. Don’t know if true. Very pretty house. The iron gate outside has 2 headed dragons & spiders & stuff. They had an ash tree that died so his wife had someone do a carving of the tree. Very detailed. Even a little dog like they had. Not busy, just pull up & park & take pics or videos

I am a fan so had to see one of his homes for myself. Saved my money did not book a tour. Went during the week and it was non stop visitors but knd of like one at a time so everyone got to take pics and look around without a bunch of others in the way. There was a great green huge statue of a frog in the yard which I loved! It had black gates which were open, with gargoyles and bats, Huge grounds but the house was cool and not overly big.

An amazing house and gated fence. Just what you might imagine that Steven King would live in. It is easy to take a quick picture as you drive along the street. There are no tours available of the inside of the house.

Unique older home gaited home. It has gargoyles on the gaits. It has very spacious grounds. Great that a well renowned writer stays in a quaint city and does assist both Brewer & Bangor.

On our way down to Bar Harbor I talked my husband into stopping at the house. Mr. King was there the day we checked out the house...we waived at each other. Great architecture was nice iron works decorations. We enjoyed our look see and were glad that we made an effort to see the house.

It was very easy to find and not far from the center of town. Plenty of parking. What I could see of the flower gardens was beautiful.

The mansion is a stately home in a quiet residential neighborhood. There were some other cars on the street, but everyone just took turns taking pictures. No noisy crowd. This house just screams Stephen King.Gave me the shivers like someone was watching from the tower room.Definitely a must see in Bangor.

Beautiful neighborhood and interesting home. Fencing is unique and cool with a 3 headed dragon and spiderwebbing. Snowed a few inches before arrived and was awesome.

We enjoyed a nice afternoon photographing Mr King’s home. I read many of his novels and watched just as many of his movies/series. His home looked just as I imagined it would. It was a nice addition to our New England trip.

Beautiful street and the wrought iron fence has amazing details. Good for 5 minutes to snap a few photos.

If you love Stephen King - and let's face it - who doesn't? You will want to check out his house in Bangor Maine.
It is such a cool building, with amazing wrought iron fencing - complete with creepy sculptures, gargoyles, etc.
Very appropriate for the master of Horror.
We stop by and take photos every time we in or passing through BANGOR, MAINE.
Be respectful when you are there because this is still a residential area, and while everyone expects tourists to visit - it doesnt mean you can be rude, or disrespectful.

It was a fun stop. East to find. Couldn't believe how many other people were stopped there, too. Not worth going too far out of your way, but lovely neighborhood.

My girlfriend and I are both huge fans of his work so while traveling through New England we couldn't pass up the chance to visit his home. Beautiful home with the cool tree artwork on the side lawn. Unfortunately we did not get to meet the Master of Horror but it was still worth the stop.

It felt kind of weird to go look at his house. I was uncomfortable about invading his privacy. We had lunch at a cafe nearby, and then walked around the block to this street. It’s a lovely street, full of gorgeous homes. Some are for sale. You could be his neighbor. We enjoyed the walk, paused for a photo op, and continued on. As we began walking away, a truck pulled up and people got up to take some photos. I heard someone from across the street yell something. It was either, “He’s not home” or “leave him alone.” That took me back to my initial discomfort at showing up at his house, even if it is in google maps. My wife says I should have tweeted to him from the cafe and invited him down for a coffee instead.

I took my morning run and ran to Stephen Kong’s house- at 8am there were already ppl there. I also did the SK Tour- highly recommended!- and got a more in depth description of the house & it’s history.
Pro-tip- Susan Collins’ House is tight down the street.

Love his books and the house is cool to see. Beautifully maintained for an older home. Gargoyles on the fencing are nice and add to the decor.

We were in town so figured "Why not". It was very exciting you see his home but also the architectural elements that make it a unique home.
A few reminders. Its a residential street so be mindful of the neighbors. You can park infront of the gate but don't crowd the sidewalks.

Looking to TripAdvisor to once again help fill my day with interesting things to do and this was a must do! I have been a Stephen King fan for…35 years or more. Having never been to Bangor before I wanted to do a little exploring before heading home.
Not surprised but there were at least 10 other small groups here in the short time I was here. It was as interesting as I thought it would be…I didn’t go in and your…actually read they weren’t open for tour’s anymore and though the gates were open I didn’t enter the grounds…actually, no one did. Everyone was very respectful

Super quick stop. Beautiful house and had some nice family photos in front of the gate. Teens liked it. Good stop if you are in the area.

Stephen King is a historic horror writer and if you are in Maine, feel free to stop by and take a picture of his house. Yoiu can't go in the house and tours stop by periodically but definitely worth the time to stop and take a picture

I had read about Stephen King's House so we checked it out. Loved seeing his beautiful House and tree carving. The fence around his house was amazing. Several others there taking pictures while we were there. Worth stopping to see it!

This is a Quick easy to find photo OP . you can easily find this famous house and do a quick Drive by for a photo and a look see.

If you are in Bangor, one MUST visit Stephen King’s House! My wife and I were in Bangor Sept of 2019 and took the SK Tour(With Stew) and one of the stops is SK’s House. Love it! Also, to top it off, it was opening night of the new IT movie. SK had a red balloon in one of the windows, and tied around the gate(which anyone could’ve did that though)He supposedly went to a few theaters to watch the movie too....just catching 15-20 minutes then going to the next theater. The ‘guest’ house to the right of his house is equally amazing! Huge, White House. Highly recommend stopping and staring in awe!

It’s a quick stop and look, no tour or any thing but very neat to see. Living in Bangor I always take visitors there. I enjoy the neighborhood and it’s very nice to visit in the summer. Very nice house, not sure if he still lives there.

Quick and easy and lots of parking. Its a quick stop and the house is beautiful. The house is guarded by a really cool fence too. It’s a wacky side-street find that we enjoyed!

This is a quick stop in a predominantly residential area. Most visitors take the obligatory photo while standing in front of the gate. They miss out on walking to the white house on the right. This is the property of Stephen King, too. He has spent millions of dollars to turn this building into his personal library. Generally speaking, if you are curious about his real estate and happen to be in the area, take the time to view the exteriors of both buildings.

When I saw this house in TripAdvisor, I realized this is a great way to find the best houses in Bangor. We parked in a nearby park and walked around looking at the old, large houses. Worthwhile to get a feel for the local area.

Stephen Kings's home is an interesting structure. It actually looks exactly like what you would think he lives in. If you're a fan of his work, this is a must see

While in Bangor, my husband and I stopped here to see Stephen King's house. It's a huge Victorian mansion. Other beautiful Victorian houses are in the same neighborhood. From reading, the horror writer lives elsewhere now due to privacy, but this and other spots in Bangor are neat to see as he used them in his books. Construction work was going on on the sidewalk in front.

If your a Stephen King fan it's worth the stop to see his home. It's located just off the interstate with easy parking right in front of the house. You can't enter the grounds but still have excellent views an easy access to take pictures.

You are only going to be here for 5-10 mins top but it is good if you are in the area. It just adds to the mystique of Stephen King.

The house is gorgeous, the wrought iron fence is second to none. Gates were open to get a full view of the house. The owners are extraordinary! Always giving back to the community.

I asked my granddaughters a trivia question, what famous author was from Bangor, Me. The prize was a souvenier T-shirt from our vacation. Research revealed Stephen King and an added bonus was visiting his home. It is truly unique to visit in that quiet neighborhood, except for the regular tourists arriving and leaving after their photo of his residence. The only regret is that I would have loved to see the inside! Not to miss is the wood sculpture not revealed in the picture.

We had driven to Bangor and I had looked on TripAdvisor for things to do and this popped up, I was so excited! So, of course we drove up to see his house and it was so beautiful. We actually saw him outside for a minute talking on the phone, it was so cool. I love his movies and books. He’s very talented. I want to do the tour next time for sure!

This was my very first experience going to a celebrity home to snap a picture from outside. I felt a little uncomfortable just pulling to the side of the road and grabbing a few pictures. The house is in a lovely neighbourhood. I hope this doesn't become a problem and tourists can show respect for Steven King and his privacy. I took a few pictures of the fence which really are the only thing that makes this home stand out from others in Maine.

Nice to see house and have a photo opportunity Right on main road. Kids enjoyed seeing it. Driver says King is often there and very friendly.

As others noted, it looks exactly as you'd think King's house would. That having been said, it's a private home not open to the public. You'll get more information by reading the other reviews

It is a delightful older home. Great fence and garden area. I am sure everyone who travels to Bangor would be interested in seeing this large old home of a famous writer.

Beautiful Victorian mansion, well manicured garden and property. The neighbourhood was old with gorgeous Victorian homes and shady trees - very quiet. We got there early at 8am and although the gate was open we minded our business and stayed on the main road to get our photos making sure not to trespass on the property. Every visible window in the home is covered in a shade so you cannot see anything inside the home.

This is the first place I take anyone who comes to visit us here in Bangor. It's a beautiful spot and easy to find. The house is grand and its a lot of fun to meet others there and take pictures. Not much else to see or do, but a beautiful street with some beautiful houses.

Really cool and spooky. Just sitting there on a regular neighborhood road, you can walk right up and look at the home of the King.

This is a good destination for readers of Stephen King's Horror fans. Park the car, walk by the fence and gates. Take photos. Be respectful to the neighbors and the family. Also, take a side tip to see the youth baseball stadium that he had built for the community. He is one good citizen.

Not much you can say about this. It looks great, has great gates and a huge “totem pole” Just another house on a street with many large and unusual looking houses. Good that you can see so much, the gate were wide open. He doesn’t live here anymore.

Easy to find, very easy to park on the street in front of Steve and Tabitha's place, this is just one of those things you do when visiting Bangor. I have been a lifelong fan of Mr. King's work, and since we were in the area, it was nice to get a look at the place that birthed so many incredible works of fiction. Definitely check out the ironwork on the gates, as well as the large timber sculpture in the front yard, but of course, remain respectful of the fact this is someone's private residence.
5/5, would recommend.

Fabulous fence gate of spiderweb design with gargoyles overlooking made for a great photo opportunity.

Just because. While he doesn't live here full time anymore, it is a cool place to stop by and see. Equally cool to the decor he has placed on the fence tops, the people who stop by leave intereting trinkets inside the fence.

I am actually happy that Stephen King no longer lives here, as I would have probably not visited if he did so as not to disturb him and his family. Now that he does not live here, I was very happy to visit. What an awesome stop for a super fan! There is ample free street parking, along with lots of other fans stopping by for a quick photo. The house is beautiful and the gate is quintessential King. I've read that the house will likely be turned into a museum and writers' retreat. Hopefully I can stay for a few nights some day.

We were road tripping thoug Maine and made the stop outside Stephen King’s house for a few quick pictures. My teens were a little embarrassed to do this, but his house has an interesting look to it and it was a fun memory to look back on.

Not open to the public, but fun for a quick photo stop. The gate is exactly as you would expect! Definitely worth a drive by!

Beautiful house and area whether you are a fan or not. The detail is amazing Interesting to see it

Everyone in Bangor talks about how Steven King lives in Bangor. Not much to do here but see the beautiful Victorian house. The home is pretty, but as the security signs allude- it’s private!

This was such a great experience for me. I'm such a fan of Stephen King I've read his books watched his movies since I was a kid. He's had such a major effect on me And having the ability to stand in front of the home of this Mastermind Was amazing! I love that he has his house open to the public, very welcoming. You're able to take pictures and get a sense of where he lived. I visited it twice over 2 days and each time my boyfriend and I went, there were people coming and admiring the home. I literally burst into tears when my boyfriend pulled up in front of Stephen King's home. This was such a great present for me from him, I'm so grateful.

We flew in to Bangor and knew we'd squeeze in finding some SK locales on our trip, though not truly diehard fans. Our first stop off the plane was his house! It was so neat. When we checked in to our hotel, our front desk gave us a self guided tour...we hit just about all of the sights mentioned, and loved seeing every one! When we got home, we all watched It as a family, and it was even more neat to see the places in the movie that we'd found on our tour. Definitely more Stephen King fans now!

This is not a house you can tour, but it’s an easy drive by stop for a picture or just to take in the architecture & the gates. Not far from Hanford Park so we stopped for a picture & then ran the kids off at the park for awhile!

I love the fact that we can see this author house from the street. How nice of him to give back to his readers by allowing us to gawk at his residence. I enjoyed seeing this house and just knowing that this author loves my home State makes me feel good.

Very beautiful town and very nice house with beautiful fence.you can feel the magis in the air i am a huge Stephen King fan

Although not allowed to go inside (still a private residence), photo opportunities outside are welcome.

The house is nice to see but nothing exceptional--it is close to the airport and if you have time you can drive by--if you are not a Stephen King fan it is not worth it--the picture you see on line is what you see in person.

Stopped here just because it was Stephen King's house (he no longer lives there). We were able to park on the street, jump out for a few pics, and off we went. If you are close by, stop and do the same. It's only a five minute drive from the giant Paul Bunyan statue. I wouldn't go out of my way for it though.

There are many changes underway at the former home of the Kings. Steve & Tabby recently petitioned the City of Bangor to rezone their property in order to make it a non-profit. The main house will become the home of their archives - currently housed at the University of Maine at Orono, 10 miles north of Bangor, and will be available for inspection by appointment for research purposes. Unfortunately, there won't be a museum or anything public, in deference to their neighbors. There is a second house on the property that the Kings also owned as a guest house. It will become a writer's retreat, with up to five authors being housed there at any one time. Reports are that it's about a year away from fruition...So it still makes a great stop if you're nearby - as examining the detail of the gate and fence is amazing...and the property is a fitting tribute to the King.
If you are in Western Maine's Oxford County, head for Kezar Lake...that's where they spend summers now - look up Pietree Orchard on the Waterford Rd in Sweden, Maine....Tabitha's very own farmstand is open daily!

Private gated residence in Bangor neighborhood. You can see the house and a cool sculpture. Additionally the fence around the residence is really cool.
There were two people when we arrived. One was this self proclaimed Super Fan. When we left 20.mins later there were probably 8 people.
Good Quick no cost fun!

A great little stop. The house looks like it could be from some of his books! Be sure to look at all the details in the wrought iron fence. There are several other magnificent old homes on his street.

It was nice to finally visit S. King’s house. His home is fitting for the books he writes. It was a very quick stop on the way to Bar Harbor. Another bucket list places to see checked off.

It was interesting to see. It is kind of spooky. Actually the whole neighborhood is. Strange things in the years and the gate bats are interesting

I always heard about his house, but never actually went to look at it. Finally 20 years later I finally did with the kiddo. Had her pose, told her this is the reason why their our clowns in the sewer. I wouldn't mind living in this neighborhood or at least go trick or treating there. We pulled up to his house, not sure if we could stop right in front but we did. Snapped a few pics of the kiddo, then drove off. After that more people started to come out of nowhere and start taking pics too. Bummed we didn't notice the frog until driving away. Wish he was home, could have asked him if my high school english teacher really babysat his kids.

My wife and I went to Bangor a few days ago and decided to go see this house. Its really cool! Nothing else to see really than able to say that you’ve seen it. Drive around the neighbourhood as well as there are nice houses!

Well, the house is pretty much what you might envision Mr. King would live in. Really neat house. The iron fence is adorned with spiders, webs and little gargoyle-like things. Of course you are not alloed to go inside, but small tours show up at the curb with people taking pictures. A must stop for fans of Stephen King.

Easy to find with GPS. The entire street is beautiful. The architecture, the spider web gate is all gorgeous, but the tree is breathtaking. I had not seen pictures of it before I got there. The skill and craftsmanship is phenomenal.

Ok so I drove past a famous authors home.... and?? The gates are cool as they have a spider web design with little bat or gargoyle enhancements. But otherwise it looks like a big old New England type home.

Mr. King's Victorian home is in the Whitney Park Historic District, where there are several other beautiful mansions. I stopped by on an early weekday morning and took a few photos from across the street. It was very quiet, there were a few vehicles in the driveway. Lots of birdsong, some people taking strolls, one woman pushing a stroller. All very normal, except when you stop to realize that this is STEPHEN KING'S neighborhood and he's probably having breakfast or maybe looking at this annoying tourist taking pictures of his house. In my defense, I love historic architecture as well as Mr. King's books.

We drove on our way home from bar harbor and decided to stop in Bangor to see Stephen King's home. It was cool to see his home..when we pulled up there were three other cars pulling up behind us. We all wished we could go inside but fun to see the outside and a chance to take pictures.

Broadway street has a lot of big nice old houses and this is one of them at the end of Cedar street. Ok to pass by car to see the gate and frog but bo harm if you do not go.

The iron work alone is worth the visit! It is an absolutely stunning house that just kind of keeps on going. I love the frog in the corner too.

The Stephen King House was our third Halloween Themed stop on our Maine Road Trip. We had done the Evans City Cemetery, Sleepy Hollow, and now the King House. We hit it about perfectly too. We got there as the sun set, so we got the full creepy factor of enough light to see the house and enough dark that it looked ominous (at least a bit). Add in the cloudy sky and dampness from an earlier rain and it was super cool.
We were there for about 15 minutes and multiple groups of people stopped for pictures at the front gate. We also walked over to the IT storm drain a few blocks away.

This is a place where you need to stop for a photo opportunity. You cannot enter the house as this is occupied. The gates were open and there was a car parked in the driveway. Not sure if the author was in town. The gates are interesting with mounted bats.

This is a fabulous view of the birth place of many of Stephen Kings gay characters including Adrian Mellon, Bill McGovern and Helen Deepeneau. The King home is worth visiting to look at the iron fence alone. If you are transiting through Bangor the house is an easy find on Broadway.

Interesting home and on quiet street. Wife and daughter needed a photo. Interesting stories from locals about Stephen King and being part of the community.
No crowds. While we were there taking few photos, cars would show up in ones and twos and take a photo and drive off, and very courteous about their time in front of the home.
Interesting fact from some family friends, not sure if true but fence was there before he purchased the home, so always has been a unique part of Bangor.

Any Stephen King fan will want to make sure they do not miss the opportunity to have their picture taken in front of one of Stephen King's houses in Bangor, Maine. The street is wide and it is easy to pull up right out front and take a picture. The iron fence is incredibly designed.

This is a great quick stop to see Stephen King's house. The street is wide with plenty of room to park. Most people stop for just a few moments. I would feel bad if anyone was home or we were disrupting the neighborhood but locals stop by to chat so it seems they are used to it. Cool house.

It is just a home on a street you can’t go in but it has some interesting gargoyles on the fence, overall a neat and quick atop.

To be respectful, I just snapped a few photos and moved along, but if you are a fan, it's a must see.

Beautiful home, lovely yard, super cool fence. When people ask us what Bangor is known for we always name two things, Paul Bunyan and Stephen King. (Stephen is number one)
Enjoy viewing the house and remember REAL people live there!!! Respect please :)

Must see if you are a reader. The bat fence posts are really cool. The grounds are very well kept. It is open to the public for no cost. Does it get any better than that.

A large house in a lovely quiet area of town with some interesting gates and features to see. You can only view the property from the sidewalk and it's surprising how many come to visit but most people are happy for a quick chat about Stephen Kin's books so it's fun.
And it's free of course!
Good fun if you are in the area.

Just a cool place to drive by and catch some photos if you're a Stephen King fan. Other than that nothing special.

Fantastic experience just looking at ll the little details built into his home from his love of horror as well as his books.

Stopped by Stephen king's mansion while passing through Bangor. The intricate wrought Iron fence is a dead giveaway as to the home's owner.
No tours given, but its worth a photo for sure!

My husband and I went in search to see Stephen King's house and we did find it on a lovely quiet street. We looked at the house through the fence and took a few pictures of the house, gate and fence just to say we were there. I was disappointed that it was just some random house. No information was provided and no tour access, which I would expect seeing that it is noted as something of interest.

If you're a Steven King fan then a trip to his house is a must. Beautifully decorated in a well kept neighborhood...yes neighborhood...just like your average home owner. The design work of the wrought iron gates are your first clue of who the resident is behind them and the wood carving of the tree beside the house is nothing short of spectacular. Well worth a visit even if you aren't a fan if only to see his artistic creations on the grounds. Do be respectful and take pictures from the sidewalk.

We stopped here via the SK Tours of Maine, which I highly recommend, because the tour guide will answer all your questions about everything Stephen King and Bangor/Derry.

We stopped by during hurricane Lee so we could get a look at my wife's favorite writer's home. We managed to get some very nice pictures from inside our car during the heavy rain and winds. The weather seemed appropriate for the stop, lol.

You can’t get inside so it’s just an outside experience, nice gates with bats ensuring you have found the right place

Another quick visit on our Maine trip. Just an interesting place with a lot of class. Steven King is great and it's worth the stop and selfies.

While in Bangor, we had to at least drive by Stephen King's house ... especially to see the bats on the iron gate. It's nice they're going to be using it for a writer's retreat. I was surprised it was in such a residential area.

The Kings home has become a tourist attraction. They are fine with photos but don't want to be disturbed. You'll often see the family around the area; you may not even recognize them. Be sure to see Gerald Winters & Son bookshop on the Main Street featuring rare King works and tasteful souvenirs. Gerald Winters is a very knowledgeable King fan!

Only stopped for a minute as this is someone's home. I read another review saying they rang the front door bell! Don't do this! There's a sign that tells you not to anyways, have some respect. We were surprised to see how close all the neighbors are, but they all have lovely houses as well! Many other people were there during the short time we were. Thank you to Mr King for allowing pictures as I'm sure this must be annoying for him and his family at times. Beautiful home and gate.

I've still yet to see Stephen King at his house or anywhere around town except for in photos. His house is unassuming, an old Sea Captain's house with a wraught iron fence. It's just very special to be in the same space with Mr. King!

As a Stephen King fan, I was delighted to stop by. It is a fun, quick photo op. While we were there, there was a constant stream of people who were also delighted. If you are a fan, take the extra few minutes to pop off the freeway and grab a quick pic.

Such an awesome house! We stayed just long enough to take a few pics but it was the highlight of my trip! Loved it!

I have been a Steven King reader for years, so I was glad to see one of his three homes. Our hotel gave us an outline of other Steven King highlights through town. Some sites in Bangor have been used for his movies!

It's his house. That's it. It's cool looking and pretty clear it's his. When IT came out, he had a red balloon floating in his front window. That was clever. I've never done a tour, but lived around the corner so I would wave every day on my way to work.

Made a quick stop by Stephen King's House (one of several that he owns) while in Bangor, and was not disappointed. The mansion itself had an open driveway with vehicles outside of it, which I found incredible considering that the occupants blended in with the other homes in the neighborhood without the guise of celebrity.
I completely respected the author's privacy, so I just stopped by vehicle on the very wide street of Broadway, and turned on my emergency lights just to allow enough time to take a couple of photographs. There was no way that I intended to do anything else otherwise. Seeing the home up close was certainly surreal. The vampire bats that adorn the front gates was fun to look at, and I had to give Mr. King a nod to both his sensibility toward his fans, as well as sense of humor altogether. A Stephen King novel, or home for this matter, wouldn't be complete without a hint of morbidness. I personally liked it!
The home is about a mile from the primary airport in Bangor. What's fun to imagine is that Mr. King could've easily walked to the airport from his home, much less accessed the interstate for an afternoon in nearby Waterville. This is a regular neighborhood without any pretense, nor folks that are trying to sell you anything that can capitalize off of the author's celebrity. If seeking snacks prior to visiting this area, there is a gas station just down the road, as well as several small cafes and other venues.

You can't go in, but however, for many people to get this close to the master is enough for them. We were just passing through to New Hampshire and we were sort obligated to pay homage to him.

I’m a Constant Reader. Loved visiting Stephen Kings Home!
It’s a well kept, beautiful older home. A must see!

Drove to see his famous dwelling. Easy to locate. When we were about park, first thing I saw was some people and a guy walking a corgi back through the gate. Silly thing was I gravitated to the corgi first. After parking, a lady told me I just missed him as he was walking his dog, the corgi. Dang!

If you're a fan of Stephen King, standing in front of his stately Bangor mansion shooting selfies is definitely going to be on your bucket list. From the spiderweb front gate to the bats adorning the tops of the fence, King's house is simple Gorgeous. The week we were there the town of Bangor voted to approve the King family's request to turn the property into writers retreat and library for King's papers. In the future King's house will be about the man, not his actual home. The Kings have left their footprints all over Bangor with their generous philanthropy over the many years. It was amazing to see.

My husband and I were driving through Maine and decided to take a short detour to see Stephen Kong’s house. The house is easy to find in a residential neighborhood. There is plenty of on street parking. The author does not live there currently, but it’s a fun place to stop and take a few pictures. There were quite a few people there, so you will have to take turns and be respectful of the neighbors who do still live in the area.

My esteemed spouse and I have a daughter that recently bought a house near Stephen King 's house, so of course, we had to do the obligatory photo op by the front fence..and its a whopper of a fence! It felt a little silly but you know what? I'm glad we did! It's a beautiful home and I must say, the pictures turned out cute!

In the end it's just a cool old home since you can't really tour it and if it wasn't for the internet you probably wouldn't have a clue who lived there just by driving by. That being said we still stopped to get a quick picture with it. Just remember to be respectful as it's on a residential street.

The house is quite lovely, but the highlight would be the fence. It’s an art work unto itself. Well worth visiting if you’re in the area.

There isn't much to do in Bangor and we were trying to figure out a way to kill a few hours before our friend's wedding. I saw this as a top attraction and we decided to check it out. It's a pretty house in an upscale neighborhood. The iron fence out front had very cool "spooky" creatures on it. It's very easy to locate and a quick way to spend a few minutes in Bangor.

It was a fun stop, especially if you’re a Stephen King fan. It’s a cool house to look at and take pictures. If you’re close by, I recommend seeing it. There was a constant flow of people wanting to see it but most don’t stay too long.

Despite the title of this review, we did drive by and stop. When we were there, it looked like Stephen was bringing in groceries from his car. I mean really... I couldn't even allow him that much privacy. I felt like a putz and left....

One of the perks of living around the Bangor area, is getting to see the Kings home. The “SK tour” first took us here. We have however, driven by many times since. It is a beautiful home, and of course the wrought iron fencing and gate reflect Mr. Kings exquisite taste.
We always hope for a glimpse of our local celebrity. But I probably wouldn’t even be able to recognize him, even if I did.
It is a nice neighborhood, with a big park and close to some small shops and eateries.
The house does make a nice photo op.
I recommend this as a place to see.

Well, this attraction does not take long. In a Victorian section of Bangor is Stephen King's Mansion with a wrought iron fence and a long stairway to top. Take a few photos like the others stopping, think about his stories and off you go to the next attraction on your list.

We only stopped by here for a few mins to get some pics, but it was definitely worth it. Even if you don't read Stephen King novels or watch the movies, it is nice to just say that you saw his home. The house and property are stunning and definitely have a vibe that matches him. The fencing around the property is also very creepy. There is also a tour in the area that doesn't just bring you by his house, but takes you to other areas where some of his books are based. There is a bookstore downtown Bangor that sells a number of his books, movies, and has some great collectibles. Some of the books were 1st editions and would be great for collectors.

Beautiful house in a beautiful neighborhood with other beautiful homes. That alone makes it worth visiting. Wide, quiet street with plenty of room to park. Gorgeous, intricate wrought-iron fence decorated with one red balloon this Halloween!

A street side view of an old historic home on West Broadway in Bangor. Pretty much the photo says it all. There is not access to the home or beyond the fence. Tickets are not sold to visit. Google the address and drive on by - post in front of the fence and home for photos! If you are a King fan - it may be a must do of bucket list. When in the area visit Mount Hope Cemetery where part of the Movie Pet Semetery was filmed.

Easy to get to with a car and can park right in front, on the street. Beautiful home and a creepy carved tree stump, spider web fence w/bat decor! Unable to go inside because its a private residence. But worthy of seeing from the sidewalk especially if one is a Stephen King fan. Attractive neighborhood in Bangor.

If you're a Stephen King fan and you're in Bangor it's worth stopping by to see, but that's it. Snap a couple pictures and move on since it is a private residence. The house is also included on the SK Tour so you can see it that way too.

Beautiful house, funny to see it on TripAdvisor. Oh course, I feel a little uncomfortable taking pictures of houses where people are living.

A beautiful house to view from behind the gate. Take as many pictures as you want. Sometimes SK will even come out and chat with guests. The white house to the right is also owned by SK. Take a moment to enjoy the wood carved stump in his yard. It has different aspects from his books carved into it.

Cool house, awesome gate. You've got to take your picture in front of this iconic author's house. Just do it!

Saw Mr. King getting his paper. Very cool. Saw red balloons. Scary. Clowns ...no no clowns please. Had to see where he lives. His home is lovely and creepy at the same time.

It's a house. Behind a unique fence. On one of Bangor's nicest residential streets. Worth a picture? I suppose if you're a big King fan, sure. Other than that: nothing to see here.

A unique stop to quickly park, get out, and look around. The carved tree and fencing are both interesting and spooky. Several Stephen King stops are close by.

It was very cool to see in person but what was even cooler was Stephen King himself came strolling down his driveway with his dog and chatted with us for awhile. We were all in shock, especially our twin daughters who love his books. He’s a real friendly guy, very soft spoken and easy to chat with. We are from Iowa, so had driven a long way. We asked us some questions, too and we enjoyed our visit with him very much.

At this time you can only park nearby, look at the house, and take pictures outside the gate. But the spooky gate itself and imposing manor have plenty to spark the imagination. Exactly what you'd expect from the master of macabre writing. Don't miss a self-guided tour of the sights in the nearby neighborhood that inspired scenes from IT and other novels!

Easy to find, on a wide quiet street, West Broadwa.y which sounds like a busy street but its not. We just stopped for a few photos and were on our way. It's just a short distance off Rte 95.

I visited Stephen King's house on a tour and it was beautiful. The gate was amazing and spooky. I would definitely go again.

If you are in Bangor you have to stop and see it. Take some photos and enjoy the details of the property.

While in Bangor, Maine waiting for a late afternoon flight, we drove to Stephen King's house for pictures. When we arrived there was a group there taking pictures, so we held back. The street is beautiful with lots of shade trees. The property had an black iron fence in front with a entry gate and a driveway gate. The driveway gate was open, but we could see spiders and bats made as part of the gate. The gates also look like spider webs. The house was reddish with white or grey trim. I believe it's a Victorian style, but not sure. There are buildings in the back that match the house. A local told us that there is a basement and they is his writing area. We took pictures and as we were leaving a large tour group arrived.

If you find yourself near Bangor, and you are a Stephen King fan, you have to stop by. Unfortunately, these days, you probably won't see Steve or Owen or Tabbie...they don't spend as much time in Bangor as they used to...Before, you'd be very likely to see Steve walking down the street in jeans and a t-shirt. Now I guess he's in Western Maine or Florida more often. The house is a beautiful old Italianite style mansion at 47 West Broadway...the fence is definitely the most interesting thing you'll see from the sidewalk. But the house is impeccably cared for - with a pool in the back... Little known fact, he also owned the house next door at 39 West Broadway. It has been written that he bought the house to write "IT" with Bangor being the real Derry.
He also owns 3 radio stations in town; WZON 620am - WKIT 100.3 FM & WZLO 103.1 FM, all under the ZONE RADIO banner. You can listen on-line at their website.

The property is easy to find with plenty of available street parking. The beautiful well cared for home is easy to see and photograph from the sidewalk in front. Be sure to check out the fabulous wood carving in the front lawn. The property is private so you cannot enter or tour it.

Stopped here for a quick photo op.
The King home is beautiful and is on a very nice street with other lovely old character homes.
Worth a stop if you are a fan - gates are awesome!

Located in a neighborhood loaded with cool old houses, this one invites a stop. The fence is cool/creepy, featuring bats, cobwebs, spiders and the like. There is an interesting wooden sculpture featuring animals carved into what looks like an old tree. The author does not live there any longer, but it remains his archive. Great photo op, and easy to find. Ten minutes and you're done. Street parking.

We were not sure what to expect here. When we pulled up on super-wide Broadway, we saw 12 people walking the sidewalks viewing Stephen's property. 47 West Broadway. His home is huge and a beauty. So are the other homes on the street. There is a Little Free Library just to the left of his house.

If you are in the area it’s worth driving past it. I wouldn’t make a special trip here. Just be prepared to get yelled at by the locals.

It was pretty much what I expected from this brilliant writer. Love his books! My husband and I discovered 30 years ago, this was something we had in common. First trip to Maine and loved every second

Kind of amazing that King's house was in our GPS! Cool fencing with halloween themes. We stopped there on the excellent SK Tour led by Stu. He told us the large frog in the front yard was given to King by the publisher for Dumas Key!

I'm not sure if there are tours available. We swung a bit out of our intended itinerary just so we could say we had been there. So we saw it. And everyone survived!

We were worried that there would be lots of cars full of tourists like us. Not the case. The house, and gate, are definitely worth seeing even if you are not a big Stephen King fan. This is a very pretty street not far from central Bangor. We were able to park right in front and take photos of the gate and house.

This house is Fascinating all the way down to the wrought iron fence that surrounds it. Just wish i could have gone inside

Ive been here a few times (most of the time hoping to catch a glimpse of the man who has given us nightmares successfully for so long. Someday maybe they will open the home up for tours and we can really get a grip on what causes his nightmares to become a reality.

Stu was our driver and guide. We drove by many locations that inspired and/or were used for locations of Stephen Kings books/movies. There were only four of us on the tour, a couple from Dallas Texas and my wife and I. The couple from Texas were true Stephen King fans. My wife has read at least half of his books, me not so many. I was really suprised how much I got into this tour. The final stop was Stephen Kings house. WOW! What a really interesting house and guest house in the compound. If you are at all interested in Stephen King's background and are in Bangor, Maine you should take the tour. About 3.5 hours.

Living in Bangor, we still never get tired of a drive down West Broadway to see Stephen King's house! And whenever we have guests it is one of the main "must see" locations when we give a tour of Bangor. The fence alone is worth a photo and you in front of the fence is even better.

We stopped by and took lots of pictures. It was easy to find. Cool place! Interesting fence. Glad we went!

This site requires only a short visit and it's free - but a must for fans of the works of suspense writer Stephen King. The writer's home is in a lovely and quiet neighborhood, just a short drive from Bangor's center. The house is a fitting abode for the author and is easily recognizable by the gated fence (look for the spiders and the bats) around the property. Keep in mind, this is a private residence (the gate is closed) - so make your visit respectful of the author and his neighbors. We were able to park in front for a quick photo op. A fun thing to add to your itinerary if you are in the Bangor area.

While admittedly there is little to “do” there, if you are a fan and reader of the Stephen King novels, you will appreciate the look and feel of the house, right up to and including the bats on the fence post.
I am sure some people have the opportunity to actually see him, but not us on that day.
Oh, the house next door is for sale if you are a really big fan.

His house sits in a beautiful quiet residential neighborhood. It's a gorgeous house, and the trademark front gate is worth the visit. Just try to be quiet and don't linger.

We stopped by here to take a few pictures. There were several other couples who were doing the same. His house is decorated rather creepy befitting of the author of so many horror novels. Since this is his private residence, they do not do tours of the interior, but do not mind if you stop to take a few pictures.

Stephen king house is amazing, beautiful. You can park right in front and look around. The gates are closed. Its definitely something to check out if your fan!

Great old style home with "spooky" gate. It feels the part of Stephen King and his novels. You can picture Stephen up in the towers deep in thought penning his next novel.

The house and homes around it are beautiful old estates. You will only be there about 10/15 min. I suggest stopping in the AM and taking your morning stroll in the beautiful older neighborhood if you're looking for some exercise and scenery. You can pull right up to the house and park on the street. The view is clear even in a parked car.

Right on a public street, easy to find and easy to park. No restrictions on photos, but lots of signs warning of surveillance, so behave and don't think you can go up to the door.

We went to pay homage to the writer , master of what goes bump in the night. The house looks like the home from the 1960's show the Munsters. With weird sculpture and creepy foliage Behind the main house, was it seemed modern looking buildings. I am guessing to house ,offices , friends, parties. People left notes inside the gates. One local said if King is in residence, he will sometimes come out for a brief chat with the fans! You can beat the price either for checking out the house.

Very cool home! Worth the stop if you're in Bangor. This is a stop on the SK Tour (run by friends of SK himself)

King’s house lived up to my expectations. What was interesting, although not surprising, was that the driveway gate was wide open. You could literally walk up to the front door. That being said, there are plenty of security cameras and you may not make it more than 20’ inside the gate! Even if you are not a King fan it is worth a visit.

If you're in the area it's worth a trip down Broadway to the King residence. A wide avenue lines some beautifully grand homes. Stephen Kings home stands out among them all. Very gothic

I’ve seen pix of the Stephen King House in Bangor, but just being there was a thrill. The property definitely lives up to the author’s name! What a quick, fun stop. There were only a few other people when we visited. Easy parking right in front of the house.

Neat just to stop and see this beautiful home with some unusual features. Fun to look at the fence, frog, and gates.

Definitely a place you have to see to appreciate! Constantly see people taking pictures in front of his place, even tour buses parked out front for pictures too!

A great spot to visit! The fence is amazing and the house absolutely Beautiful. I am so glad I got to se it!

Can finally cross this off. Loved seeing the house so many creepy stories were thought up in. Wish i could have gone inside.

Told my wise guy son in law that I am going to Bangor for business and he said what are you going to do there. Said work. He said are going to see Stephen King's House. So as a joke took a picture of it and sent it to him.

Who doesn’t want to see where this famous author lives? It’s so cool because while the home is lovely, it’s on a residential street and even the gates were open. All tourists were respectful and I’m glad Mr. Kings family lives in peace.

Just fabulous. Beautiful property, the gates are magnificent. Been a dream of mine to visit and wasn’t disappointed. Great experience

While in Maine for a visit to Castine, we took the opportunity to take a "quick" trip to Bangor to see Stephen King's house. The Old Lady loves his books and, while hating the idea of infringing on his privacy, couldn't resist the idea of seeing his house and famous fence/gates. We parked down the block and walked by, looking at that wonderful fence, the large frog, and those magnificent gates. He could have had any fence installed but looking at this, it seems he wanted to please his fans as well. The gargoyle, dragon, bats, spider, and webs were worth the trip!

Beautiful house in a pretty part of town. A nice walk from the center. Particularly liked the bats at the gate entrance. You can’t get on property and you probably won’t see Stephen King, but it is a nice walk through a pretty part of Bangor.

I was in Maine with family and we took a two hour trip from Freeport to Bangor. It was easy highway and the one sight my kids wished to see was easily accessible and a fun day trip. Small town, and fun sights and not really all that crowded during what seemed to be a great time of the year. It was right in the middle of a beautiful neighborhood with amazing tree lined streets, beautiful walnut trees... Really nice place and only a mile or so from the city scape...also a fun place to see.. Thank you Bangor!

although i have no idea what it would be like to have scores of strangers constantly popping up on my front sidewalk gawking at my propoerty hoping to catch a glimpse of the owner, i appreciate that the resident allows folks and fans to appreciate the intricacy of the artwork as well as provide an unobstructed viwe of the property. the only complaint might come from neighbors who may not welcome the traffic that this house draws and the curbside lawn worn out by the hordes of people who have walked on it to get near the propoerty.
everything from the spiders to the gargoyle, to the letter "K" in the gate speaks to the whimsy of the author and makes me feel grateful that one can respectfully get this close. if want to get closer, many of the homes on the street are for sale and can be a neighbor to the famous author, including the one next door (a 6BR, 5bath, 5000 square foot place that was listed under $600K)

It is a lovely home. The homes of the neighborhood growing up, were exactly like this. Classic Victorian mansion. Bat gate, everything you would think the master of the macabre would have. Many were tempted by the open gate. To me, it’s enter at your own risk.

Go visit the house and youll see why Mr. King wrote all those quirky stories.
The yard and grounds are really beautiful. Stop by and take a selfie

It is exactly what you’d expect from the King of Horror and suspense. My favorite part was the front fence with its spiders, webs, dragons and gargoyles. Easy to find, with curb side parking. The gates were open, but we didn’t see any movement and nobody stepped off of the side walk. If your a Stephen King fan and your in the area, it’s free and it is cooool. And check out the Stephen King rock station while in town also on 100.3......

My favorite author so I had to stop by and see this unique home. The house itself is not open to the public. My understanding is that he no longer lives here and this will become a museum. Worth a quick stop if you're in the area.

My favorite part of the experience was touching the gate. I was inspired to write another great original song in Maine. Thank you. Sincerely Maine Songwriter, Cheryl Jeanette

Beautiful House!! Thank-you King family for allowing us, and so many people to stop and take pictures every day!

Easy access to park and take a picture. Gardner was out working on garden and answered my questions.
While there-a tour van pulled up; a creepy guy came out of van; we think they were filming a commercial for their company which tours the city or other (not sure). Worth the quick pic oppurtunity.

Stephen king is brilliant writer and his home is certainly beautiful. I was more impressed by seeing his name associated with the rock radio station . It shows us that he is still an integral part of the community

Beautiful time to see as the sun was Dow. No one around so photo options good. Couldn't access anything but it was beautiful.

The house is beautiful! Super easy to get to. I love the fact that it’s in such a local area and it looks like a normal property with a touch a King on the outside!

There were two or three cars there when we arrived and in the roughly 30 minutes we were there taking pictures cars were constantly arriving. We were told by a neighbor that the huge white home next door on the north side is used by Mr. King for guests. Certainly unique and interesting especially the fence with its 'scary' animals.

This was an amazing tour with so much information about Steven and Tabby King. Our tour guide was amazingly full of all kinds of information about the King family and Steven's movies. We could not have had a better tour guide (sorry I can't remember his name) or tour. We would highly recommend this tour or any of SK Tours to anyone. If we are ever in Maine again, we will book another tour with them.

This was just a house on a street. Nothing interesting except the bats on the wrought iron fence. Wouldn't go out of my way to see it.

When I found out the hotel we were staying in was only 4 mins from Stephen King’s house, I had to visit! Funny how exciting it can be to simply stand in front of a place and have your picture taken. We were very fortunate to have nice weather in March. I did feel sorry for these poor people always having strangers at their front gate. No privacy. The house is lovely and the bats on the gates are so cool looking! Glad I visited.

Just a short drive to see a unique house of author Steven King. I loved the fence and the carved tree. Doesn’t take long but sometimes fun to do.

Home is in quiet neighborhood where I parked, took photo then drove off in all of 2 minutes. If you're a big fan of his then perhaps it would be more meaningful.

Loved hearing the background provided by our host who knows Steven King personally. Really enjoyed this tour, even though I have been too faint of heart to see Steven Kings movies!

We had a great time looking and finding this home. We love Stephen King,s books and movies. We found it on Roadside America.

It is indeed a cool house and has enough of an eerie edge to be associated with the famous horror author. But it's really no more impress a house than thousands of others in various historic districts and were it not for the author, wouldn't draw anyone as a destination.

Beautiful home! I looked at the house across the street that is for sale, but ended up with another home in the area. After taking the SK tour, I learned how much Stephen and Tabitha King have done for the town of Bangor, Maine. They are a truly fabulous couple!

While I wouldn't travel to Bangor just to see this, if you happen to be in Bangor, it's a cool house to drive by. There's a fence in front that will surprise you. Apparently, Stephen King doesn't live there anymore, so you won't be bothering him.

Four of us took the 3 hour Stephen King tour. Stu was outstanding! He is friendly and so knowledgeable about Bangor, Stephen King and all his work. His insights and narration of the various movies, books and life of Stephen King was extremely entertaining. Seeing all the sites around Bangor mentioned in the book "It" was pretty cool. This tour is a must for Stephen King fans!

For years, any time I have had visitors from out of state and we happen to be in Bangor, I always take them down this street. They are thrilled be photographed standing in front of the ornate iron fence with Maine author King's blood-red home behind them. However, if you are a fan of architecture, strolling down one side of the street and back on the other is such a treat. In fact, all of the homes in this immediate area are just lovely. It is so worth the wander! King's street is extra wide with mature trees and beautifully kept gardens and naturalized landscaping. A simple pleasure that will cost you absolutely nothing. Be respectful of residential privacy and don't litter, please. Enjoy!

The house is a beautiful vintage home in full view from the street. The fence itself has spiders, bat-winged creatures, and a three-headed reptile all decorating the black wrought-iron. This is our second visit. On our first visit Mr. King came waling up the sidewalk and entered the house.

This was a cool thing to see! Very unique experience for Stephen king fans. We went just after Halloween and there was a red ballon attached to the fence. “You’ll float too”

Did not have time other than a quick picture, but great day with leaves changing and framing house. Enjoy!

My daughter and I are huge SK fans so this was a must see while vacationing in Maine. Very cool spiderweb fence that had a red balloon on it. Such a beautiful old home in a really nice neighborhood. We loved seeing where he writes his novels. A must stop for any King fan!

Search Google Maps for Stephen King house and it is there - it is even titled on the map. Just 3km from our hotel and I was up for a 10km run. Fantastic looking place. Literature says he is occasionally there. Gate wide open (key pad entry) at 7am suggests family probably not in residence. Wrought Iron fence and gates attributes a gothic look to the house - which given the owner - is probably intentional. At left front there is a statue (1.5m) of a leaping frog - quite odd and I wondered about its reason.

Drove around for a while until we found it. Beautiful but creepily eery and worth the viewing. The master himself was getting his newspaper when we drove by!

Must see if you are a fan of Stephen King! Parking is very limited on the side streets in the neighborhood so may have to park other places and walk a bit.

Taking a stroll thrugh Bangor's historic district is a treat. Add to it, Stephen King's home, which has lovely gardens. Don't need to gaulk, its very visible and quite a home to see.

Visiting from England and a long time fan of his novels so while passing through town how could I not stop and get my photo taken in front of the house in which Mr King wrote so many contemporary classics? The house is on a beautiful street and we were there quite early in the day so it was very quiet and the house absolutely looks like the kind of place you would expect the master of horror to have lived (he doesn't live there anymore but it is still a private residence). If I were the owner I would go crazy at people pitching up at all hours for photos but I guess if you buy Stephen King's house....

Great stop, it only takes a few minutes and the see the home that Stephen King, actually love on and wrote some of his amazing stories in was thrilling. Worth the stop.

A visit to Stephen King's neighborhood was on my bucket list for this trip and it didn't disappoint. Although Mr. King was not home (if he was he was hiding) the house still did not disappoint. A beautiful house it is.

Stopped by the Master of Macabre's house, the Thomas Hill Standpipe and sewage drain (on the corner of Jackson and Union) that inspired "It". Mount Hope Cemetery used in the original "Pet Sematary". Pretty much everything in this town looks just like "Derry, Maine". Also checked out the Dysart's Truck Stop in Hermon and the Paul Bunyan statue downtown. Finally ended the trip with a pretty good chicken fried steak and eggs and Nicky's Roadside dine where King himself often eats. All in all, an awesome adventure in Stephen King's very own backyard.

Enjoyed taking pictures and chatting with other fans at Stephen King’s house. We didn’t know about the carved tree trunk in the front yard before we got there…. It’s amazing! As longtime fans, we really enjoyed this slice of American literary culture.

It feels somewhat voyeuristic to stop at someone’s house and take pictures. But he is a public figure and well known in Bangor. The house is very cool with some great details. There is the wooden carved tree and the gate has some spooky bats that guard the house.

If you are a Stephen King fan, this is a must. It sits in a quiet neighborhood and you can walk right up to the gate. Dont miss seeing his home. The tree carving outside is awesome.

A really neat looking house - loved the details. We Happened to see Mr. King pull in while we were there and he waved hello.

It was a fun stop. Couldn't believe how many other people were stopped there, too. lovely neighborhood.

I was on my way out of ME and had to stop. Note that he no longer lives there but it was cool to seethe nice details..

Nestled on a wide not overly busy street, Stephens house is a great place to stop when visiting Bangor. His black iron fence with lifelike bats are a great camera shot with home in the background. Stop by soon to see the eerie red balloon in the window.

Seen this on Trip Advisor and made a quick stop. It is located about 10 minutes from the airport. It is also free.
You can not go in the house, just take a picture from the public sidewalk out front.
You can’t help but wonder while your there, how many creepy novels have been written within its walls, and with the cemetery where Pet Cemetery was filmed right down the road from the house. You know that’s where his great novels and movies came from.
Pretty neat if you really think about it.
Love the gate!!
I would recommend
Happy Travels

We stopped here quick after eating at Moe’s Original BBQ as they’re close to each other. If you’re a Stephen King fan, it’s fun to see his house. Spent a whole 2 minutes there but fun to see a cool
Old house!

Lived down the street from him for four years and walked by his house many, many times. Love the iron work fence and the style of the house. Mainers love their celebrities and give them every privacy we can, but taking photos in front of his house is the thing to do!

This house in downtown Bangor is a great stop if you enjoy Stephen King books. The house is beautiful and the gates are really appropriate.

Our last stop on SK Tour was in front of Stephen King's house - loved the design on fencing and gates !

Very nice to look at all the homes on West Broadway. The King home is beautiful and the black iron fencing with bats makes sense.
It is really just a drive by event

We stopped here during our SK tour of the Bangor area. It is a beautiful home in a beautiful area. Fully enjoyed the stop. :)

Whether he lives here now or did in the past, it's worth the short trip into Bangor to check out this amazing property. Interesting photo op.

Popped by on our way downtown to eat. It's a beautiful home with great architectural details on the outside. I love that he embraced his genre of fiction to install a very haunting fence that just seems so Stephen King.

It was a cold November morning and I didn't stay very long, but I did take a few pictures. The details in the fence surrounding the property are a lot of fun. Worth a look for fans of his work if you're in the area, and the rest of the neighborhood is lovely and deserves some admiration as well.

As we were leaving Bangor to continue on our travels, we decided to do a quick drive-by of Stephen King's House. The quick drive-by turned into a stop for some photos. The house is beautiful and the wrought iron fence and gate are so fun. Be sure to find all the fun (scary) things included in the fence and gate. While taking pictures, a truck pulled up to the gate. My husband and I looked at each other and mouthed "is that him?!". Well the gate wasn't working, so he got out of his truck, said Hi and then tried to get the gate to open. It never did. He walked through a smaller gate, got his newspaper, and walked up to the house. Was it really Stephen King? I'm going to go with yes.

We stopped for a few minutes. Really cool that the home isn’t down a long driveway or hidden behind bushes. Very cool.

Every Season the home of Stephen King looks AMAZING! I’m a California Native who goes thru Bangor Maine to visit my Daughter & Toddler Grand Daughters who now live on Grand Manan Island NB🇨🇦. I love to look @ this house & brought Gramps to see it in winter. Just BEAUTIFUL! I hope Mr King will gain more Creative Inspirational thoughts from that Tower room. Maybe not too sick 😂.

Stephen King lives in the same town as I do. It's always fun to take friends and family by his house....hoping for a glimpse of him or his family. He's a great guy who's family does a lot for our community.

Interesting architecture, statue & wrought iron gate
Stop for 2 min for pix
Nice landscaping
Easy to find/access
No tours

This is not where Mr. King lives anymore...but it was definitely his. The design of the fence and house are all Stephen King like! Free stop, free photo, free street parking!

I summer 5 miles form Kings house. When I have visitors it is always the first thing on their list to do. The home is beautiful and the Iran gatework is amazing. Renditions of Bats and dragons give the home a very spooky feel. This is a private home so there is no tour of the house. It sits in a neighborhood filled with many other gorgeous Manors that are also worth the visit. There is plenty of space in front of Kings home to park and take photos and generally there are others there doing just that. Be sure to check out the giant frog statue. as you face the house it is in the far left corner near the fence. Kind of uncharacteristic given the rest of the place but I guess that's what makes it stand out. Just passed Kings house on the same side is a Take a book leave a book Library box. Check it out ...MAybe Stephen left something in there..... :)

We decided to avoid the lurking and parked down the street at strip mall. Local icecream stand and stroll through neighborhood was perfect for the season. Beautiful homes.

Unfortunately they were doing work on it so we couldn’t go in, but it was still cool to see! He doesn’t live there anymore, but does live in the city on the other side.

We are big fans of Stephen King. While there's not much to review exactly, it was a highlight of our trip to Maine. Bangor is a cool town. Definitely recommend if you are a fan.

We were surprised it was so easy just to drive up, park in front and take photos. Lovely Victorian house in the neighborhood of other historical houses in Bangor. Interesting gate to the home.

Had to see it since we were driving through. He looks to live a fairly modest life and gate wasnt even locked. Anyone could have walked up and knocked on the door. Claassic writer but wish people like him would keep politics out of things and do what we pay you for, entertaining.

This is just what it says it is. Stephen Kings house. It looks the part as well. Nothing to do but look.

Great place to stop by and take a few tourist pictures. Easy to locate on a sleepy street. just wish others had consideration for the fact that the home is occupied.

We have avid Stephen King readers who were intrigued to see his house. I have it a 4 only bc you get a street view, as described. A tour would have been so intense, even if a paid entrance. But as it is, we could only stand out front and walk along the sidewalk. All of 10 minutes and moved on.

Loved stopping and seeing this house. Great iron fence with bats, spiders and web along with a 3 headed dragon. Loved the carved tree. So much detail on it. Beautiful homes all around him. As with anyones private residence, respect his property. Photos only !!

We did this because you "kind of have to" when you're there, but I quickly became very glad we did. The home and grounds are beautiful. The fence has many wonderful features, and from his garden and window decor, we realized that Mr King obviously has a good sense of humor.

... and you like his work, go on by for the novelty of it. Snap a few photos and move on. It's one of those things you do because it's there and so are you.
Apparently a must do...
We weren't going to go here but family members asked us to do so. It was cool but we don't understand the hoopla over it. It must be because we don't read his books. Easy too get to and plenty of room to park. The wrought iron fencing goes around a white house next door as well... not sure who lives in that one.
