1 of 30 Best Attractions in Stone Mountain

Its been 20 years since I first visited the Park. This time, we enjoyed the park much more. Lots of updates. You can see the carving from the base of the mountain, on the lawn, or in the skyline lift. They have a laser show on the weekend, the show is geared towards kids.

I cannot believe anyone would want to remove this from the side of this mountain. It is a historical tribute.....

Took the family and a family friend to see Stone Mountain and the laser show. In spite of an annoying rain the show is fantastic and is very patriotic. I have been to the show several times, but I always still enjoy it. Our family friend from Pennsylvania was very impressed as well. I would definitely recommend a visit to Stone Mountain if in the Atlanta area. In the past (but not this time) I have taken the cable car ride to the top, which is also fun and worth it.

Whether you agree or disagree with the content of the carving, take a moment to gaze at it's awe inspiring size and beauty! One of the largest stone carvings in the US, this is worth seeing at least once.

The carving is awesome. It is truly a work of art and the story of why it is there and the rigors of completing construction is interesting. There is no attempt to glorify the men in the carving and the light show has Gen. Lee breaking his sword and the North and South reuniting to become one country again. Anyone that knows anything about Gen. Lee knows that he was the biggest proponent of his former soldiers becoming good citizens and putting the War behind them.
I'm afraid all this will be lost by the liberals that see the carving as glorifying former traitors and slaveholders and will pressure the state to remove or cover the carving. If this ever happens I will never spend a other dime in the state of Georgia.

It’s large. You cannot get too close, but good viewing areas. I felt a little uncomfortable the way it celebrates the confederacy.

It is very impressive to see how the carving in the stone mountain seems so real, you must take a picture with this background.

This carving took many years to complete and was finally completed by several different people. It is huge and interesting

Walking to the top of the mountain only takes about 20 minutes. You can also take the gondola up and/or down.
The entrance to the trail is very far from the entrance to the park; it’s about a 20 minute walk! So if you park by the trail entrance, is better to hike down than to take the gondola.

Must have been so beautiful in its natural state and cannot understand why anyone in their right mind would spend so much time, effort and money to create such a carving.

Pictures do not show the majesty of the carving. The closest one can get to the carving is by going up the skyride. At 76 feet tall and covering 3 acres, the carving is larger than Mount Rushmore. Make sure you visit the museum to put it all in perspective. There is a replica of Black Jack's bridle and nose and it is taller than I am. A couch is the same size as General Lee's thumb. It truly is a work of art and a must see. Loved it..

The biggest and largest granite rock/mountain in the world. Quite impressive, surrounded by beautiful park, with walking trails, enjoyed it tremendously. Rode the Skyride to the summit, and the 360 degree view was spectacular.

Always wanted to see this relief and and was a beautiful carving that capture an important part of our history.

What a stunning piece of history. Lot's of folks want to remove history. This is an interesting monument to American history. Right or wrong. Never forget what used to be acceptable so it never happens again.

True Confederate leaders on the Stone Mountain were very iconic and majestic to me, though. Each leader had his own purpose, different leadership style, and different mission as all of them graduated from the West Point Academy. That's why the committee selected them before they were sculptured with glowing characters. That's how we came to focus on the Carving only for analysis purposes. Otherwise, the Carving was a real attractive to the history buffs.

The carving on the side of Stone Mountain is an amazing artistic feat that probably would not be attempted today.

This was a "bucket list" item for me. Carving was much bigger than expected! A unique and fascinating piece of history!

Th rock and the surrounding area are part of the natural beauty of the country.
This carving is a clumsily executed artwork adjacent to a laughable landscaped lake area which backs on to a poor quality amusment park. If you'd rather see that than look at a mountain, trees, birds etc then I can only pity you.

I've waited 8 years to see this work of art. It was well worth the wait. Absolutely amzaing. I was very impressed by the detail.

The carving is excellent. The largest in the USA even larger than Mount Rushmore. They cut through the trees and created a great viewing area called the Memorial Lawn - great place to eat lunch and look at the mountain and watch the train go by.
Stick around after dark for the Laser Show Spectacular. They animate the whole side of the mountain - music, fireworks, lasers. It is free and it is amazing.

When I first moved to Atlanta back in the 70's they were still working on the carving. It is a great thing to see finished. Good part of US history and a great attraction to see for people from all around the world

Pictures of Stone Mountain do not do the monument justice. It is huge and the detail is amazing. We walked the grounds and were able to get really close to the mountain. We were disappointed that the visitor's center was closed because we were looking forward to learning more about this amazing work. Stone Mountain is definitely worth a visit.

I found this carving to be absolutely amazing and have never seen anything like this before and so easily viewed

We made it to the carvings right before sunset on a cold winter day. I wish I could have seen the carvings 20 years earlier with less elements damage

With so much to do and see at Stone Mountain, you could spend the entire day there. We were amazed with all the activities the park has to offer. Great for families with young children or not.

I really liked the place, wonderful view, the bus ride and the train is very cool, 4D cinema for the little ones, dinosaur park, pretty cool.

I know it took 60 years and a lot of hard work to carve this, but it just doesn't look like much. Maybe some cleaning and repair would help. In the meantime, at this time of year, the noisy "Snow Mountain" attraction is right there, making it hard to get a good view of the carving.

The carving is a work of art, not to be missed. There are very few places in the world where you can see stone carving of this quality. Do not miss it. Men died in the process of completing it. And, there is a wonderful, beautiful park to enjoy.

It's amazing how it is made but spending more then 10 minutes looking at it is ridiculous. I would not drive for it.

Nice couple of hours to spend, we rode the tram up to the top of the mountain. Good views and can see for miles. The tram is worth the $12.00 dollars to ride and you get up close to the carving to see the beautiful work on the side of the mountain. There is a little gift store and a snack shop to eat at the top of the mountain. If you have a couple of hours to spare it is well worth it. We had gone to the aquarium in the morning and drove on out to Stone Mountain afterwards for the afternoon it made a nice day.

This is really nicely done and provides a backdrop for the laser show. I really enjoyed watching this from vantage points through out the park.

Brought several family members down to the park to check it out and get an up look at the magnificent carving on the mountain. They were all impressed at the size and quality of the workmanship of the work. They hope it never changes so more people can enjoy it at well.

Most of what we visit closes early, but the park is open later. The was a great walk-stop-look place. You pay a parking fee to get in. You can get your steps in for sure.

I was able to see the holiday program for the price of the parking fee. All atractions carry a separate price.

On the side of Stone Mountain you can view a carving of Confederate soldiers. Nice carving. You can view the carving from the lawn, the train, & sky walker.
Also at night you can view a laser show and fireworks on the carving.

We're big fans of Gutzon Borglum and Mt Rushmore, so when we had the chance to visit in the Stone Mountain area, we couldn't pass this up, even though his work isn't there any more!
The carving commemorates the leaders of the confederacy and honor their commitment to the southern states and their perceived sovereignty We rode the tram to the top--you get a great up close view from the tram, although its equally good from the base of the the mountain. .
Cool place just to see the rock--but the other pieces of the park--the walk through the Confederate States and the museum/visitor center--were pretty cool too.

I'm very happy to have the opportunity to get to see this. It is very well done and is a part of history. Erasing history does not change it. Sadly, I am afraid this will be removed at some point in the next few years

the carving of the mountain is something a person would have to see for themselves, its undescribable, we didnt see enough of it and plan on going back

Huge disappointment. Saw carvings at 4:15 their time. All shopping, historic craft demos, museum open for three hours in afternoon only. Laser show Saturday only. No restaurants open at 5 pm.

Stone Mountain park is one of those places everyone should visit. While there, don't miss the stone carving.

I think everyone should visit this amazing piece of HIstory. It has something for everyone kids to adult. Bring a cooler and blanket have a picnic then go get a good seat for the laser show.

The carving is very impressive in person especially when you realize that the figures thumbs are the size of a sofa. To really get a sense of it’s size, take the sky lift to the top of the mountain. It goes right by the carving

It’s one of a kind ART!!! The history and how is was made will blow your mind!!! It’s beyond believable, that and how this craving was made!!! Fabulous!!!

The history behind the stone carving so cool. Lots of dedicated time went into this detailed carving. Worth the drive!

While Stone Mountain was impressive and fascinating, the carving was disappointing - in contrast to the size of the mountain - and hard to see any details.
While the artistic work may have been outstanding, the choice of subjects was depressing, idolizing men who promoted hatred and cruelty rather love and peace.
It seemed delusional, not to mention untruthful, to depict the Confederacy and it's leaders as heroes, rather than unabashed racists.

We spent an afternoon/evening here in March during the earlly days of covid-19 shutdown and enjoyed our hike up the mountain. All facilities are closed but the park is open after you pay the $20 fee/car to enter. The drive around the mountain is nice with the stops at various trails open for hiking.

The carving is absolutely amazing. Not enough history and the theme park takes away from nostalgia. Wish there was more to enjoy

We came to the park for the Christmas Village and while there we had the opportunity to check out the carving in Stone Mountain. THis is an important part of history regardless of what some people think. We need to learn from the past so not to duplicate it in the future. We need to teach our children of the past so that they can make a better future for future generations. Its time to stop all this non sense of taking down all these historical monuments because all of a sudden someone is offended. Please, these have been here longer than most of us have been alive. Study it, appreciate it and learn from it.

I have been going there and taking guests for most of my life. The carving really is spectacular and it is history; not meant to be a political agenda item. This is a family friendly place with the multiple things to do; the lawn at the base of the carving is good for relaxing and taking in the laser show.

The carving is our history.Even though sometimes our past might not have been as good as others but without it where would we be.History carves itself and if we would embrace the love the hurt and be thankful for where it has brought us....then we all might can unite better.

The largest bas-relief sculpture in the world, the Stone Mountain Carving depicts three leaders of the Confederate States of America - President Jefferson Davis, General Robert E. Lee, and Lt. General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson - and serves as a memorial to all Confederate soldiers. Also depicted are the men's horses, Blackjack, Traveler, and Little Sorrel.
The carving can be appreciated and viewed in several ways - from the observation deck, from the memorial grounds, at the reflecting pool, or while ascending up Stone Mountain in a cable car. There is also a museum exhibit and several videos inside the Memorial Hall that tell the story of the conception of the carving and the history of its making. Please note that some of these exhibits require tickets.
Stone Mountain is probably the single most famous attraction in Georgia, and I would consider it a "must see" for all tourists. Please note that the carving is just one attraction of many at Stone Mountain Park.

This is impressive if for nothing but the size and skills involved in it's making. It's especially cool to see it closer while riding up the mountain in the skylift. They say one finger on the carving is the size of a sofa and the top of the horse's head big enough to fit two school buses! Even if you're not a fan of the historical aspects of the park, there is plenty to do here at the park! We didn't want to leave!

We first (and only) saw the laser show 34 years ago and they are now celebrating their 35th Anniversary so things have really changed! Free lawn seating still available but we decided to opt for reserved terrace seating - got assigned to the South Carolina area right up front and our $10 seats included soft drink or water, unlimited popcorn and.....a glow stick. Very popular with our granddaughter. Just folding chairs but off the ground, away from the ants & didn't have to bring blankets. Show itself had it all - salute to military, Georgia musicians & songs, history, 35th anniversary memories of 1983 TV, movies, etc. Not just lasers but fireworks, drones and shooting pillars of fire. Pre-show warmup with music, dancing, prizes for kids. We had such a good time and hope this landmark stays around for many more years.

This is very nice and they have a laser show but ee got rasined out, but it is a nice park for family aweith other attractions as well.

What a great retreat within the park.
Great areas to sit and enjoy the view.
Take comfortable shoes and clothing.
Take blanket to test.
Great when weather is cool.
A must visit.

Incredible story on how long and the number of different artist used for this. It is beautiful to see in person

I’ve actually been twice. The 1st time in about 2006. I would go a 3rd time. When you see the history of what the workers went thru designing it makes you appreciate their dedication.

My wife and I enjoyed learning the history of these 3 men of which the carving is about along with learning about how this Monolith of Granite the largest on earth was formed.
Also enjoyed the other attractions around this site which made it a great visit for the day.

The carving is spectacular. It was originally designed by the same person as Mount Rushmore. Due to a design argument, he left and went on to complete Mount Rushmore, so it was finished by another artist. The grounds and additional state carvings and statues are tastefully arranged and well maintained.

For whatever reason, I thought that this rivaled Mr. Rushmore. Unfortunately, our expectations were a bit high.

Stone mountain was full of history with lots of fun things to do. It was primarily an outdoor adventure of us. We look forward to go back

It looks like crap, that is what I call legal graffiti, that beautiful mountain was defaced what were this people thinking when they came up with this idea. I see no reason why they couldn't erect a separate sculpture of the three confederate army leaders/soldiers on the bottom of the mountain. The sculptor seems to be undone and you can hardly make it out. It's a beautiful park but that carving is a disgrace to sculptors everywhere.

I went, I saw, I wouldn't go back. $20 for parking seems a bit steep, then there's another fee to get into the area to actually see the carving on the mountain. Geologically, Stone Mountain itself is actually pretty cool. There are plaques around the area outlining each Confederate state's participation and the count of men that participated in the war. Honestly, I think there's little attempt on behalf of the Park to ensure the narrative isn't slanted, which I found kinda shocking in this day and age. I can appreciate the work that went into the carving, but you just can't get close enough to it to understand the sheer scale of the carving. There is a history museum there, with some great historical items from Indigenous tribes as well as early settlers, and that was worth a visit, but definitely not worth a $40 charge (parking plus admin) to see.

It's amazing how large this carving is. You need to take the Skylift to really appreciate it. Highly recommend.

We were staying at the Evergreen resort in the park and decided to take a run by the carving. We took a few pictures walked around a little bit including the gift shop and took the long way around the property back to the hotel. We didn’t see the fireworks but understand fireworks and/or a light show are nightly events in the summer. Friends of ours hiked up the mountain and said it took about 30 to 40 minutes. They do have events here where people sit out on the lawn with blankets or lawn chairs.
The carving is amazing but my 10 minute look was plenty. There really isn’t that much more to do here.

The carvings were stunning. I can’t even image how much time, strength and talent it took to make such a beautiful historical carving. I appreciate that history is being preserved in such a creative and beautifully displayed way. At the park they also explain how Stone Mountain was formed

The carving is never of great interest to me as it portraits some confederate 'heroes' who used to fight for slavery and racism. But from the prospect of art appreciation, we still would like to see it. However, it was blocked by an amusement (Christmas) park and was charged $35 per person for entry. Couldn't see it when we were right in front of it. Such a disappointment.

The thing I find most amazing about the carving is the fact that men hung off the side of the mountain, on rudimentary scaffolding, 400' above the ground and were able to get the scale correct. Especially during the first go around in the 20's. Amazing!!

Best family adventure ever. Kids are 21, 19 & 18 and they were surprised at how much they loved the gondola ride, walk out over the mountain and laser show. Could not have scripted a more perfect trip. Everything was top notch. Hope to go back with grandbabies and start new traditions.

There are many things to love about Stone Mountain Park. The beautiful scenery is relaxing. The walking trails are exhilarating. There are adequate camping areas. There are enough activities for the whole family. If you want to shop, there are some very nice places. There are activities for children to love as well. If you want to get away for a nature excursion, you will enjoy this park.

The Stone Mountain Park is well worth seeing. The park is very clean and the staff friendly. Make sure you ride the trolley to the top of the mountain, the view is amazing. Highly recommend.

I was very excited to revisit this carving after almost 3 decades . My memories were more impressive than the actual artwork.
There is a lot of controversy regarding Confederate memorials at the moment . We went with open minds . Maybe after seeing Mount Rushmore relatively frequently this didn't impress us . I've read that this is larger than Rushmore and being on the side of a massive hunk of rock makes it difficult to gauge its actual size. It was just ok to us. Nothing special . Looking at old pictures from 1990 it seemed to be much lighter back then . I'm not sure if it is because of the light , old film camera or pollution but it appeared darker this time. Rushmore and the in progress Crazy Horse carvings are much more interesting to us .

Had wonderful time ...would go back ...lots to do and view from mountain was great ..all staff was friendly

I was amazed with this park. It was a winter day but drove and walked the park areas. The rock mountain is so outstanding to view....one huge rock!!! The lake, mountain, park and history is a must go for anyone but especially Southerners, our history still alive. I will go back again and enjoy. The wooden covered bridge is to be appreciated too! Thanks Stone Mountain and the caretakers.

Spent the weekend at Stone Mountain and had a good time. It’s a little piece of History that you should see. We took the Sky Ride to the top of Stone Mountain. What a view. There is fun things for children to do. They have a Laser Show and fireworks at night

I have hiked, fished, been to concerts, watched fireworks on July 4th, attended Yellow Daisy Festival, family cookout's, ate at restaurants, biked, walked ,took kids to playground. visited Memorial Hall, seeked out history about mountain, walked up the mountain dozens of time, attended Easter services, viewed Christmas decorations with family, etc. I grew up in the shadows of Stone Mountain/Dekalb Co., absolutely love this place. It is a memorial to those who gave their lives during the Civil War. It is one of the greatest pieces of art in the nation on the side of that mountain that men gave their lives to produce. Loaded with history.
This should not be a place for ANYONE to protest in this park period.
Enjoy this park it is beautiful and should not be disturbed just appreciated. It has been and will continue to be a huge part of my life. I hope you enjoy the memorial for what it is. A memorial, history, art, a treasure for all.

Some construction going on at the time that slghtly obstructed the view. Otherwise nice facilities and wondeful carving.

We loved Stone Mountain not our first visit here but it’s been awhile. We rode the train around the park but an extra price for riding it which should have been included in entrance price. There was a 4D movie that was really good. They also have putt putt golf for an extra fee. They have a climbing rope place and a rock wall. The high light of the visit is the laser light show and fireworks at night that is illuminated on the carving of General Lee, Andrew Jackson & Jefferson Davis an important time in American history. You can climb the rocks up Stone Mountain or take a tram to the top. When I was younger we climbed it. Very pleasant way to spend the afternoon and evening.

This is one impressive stone carving. Make sure to see it from the tram!
Hint: ride on the right side going up!

$20 to get in the park. The walk to the top and back down were free. Years ago it cost nothing to get into the village and view the carving up close. Now it’s $43 apiece to gain access to the village, carving and train ride. We just wanted to come in and see the carving up close, shop for souvenirs and eat at the restaurant. But for a family of four, I’m not paying $180 to gain access to buy souvenirs and buy a meal. This used to be a cool place to visit that didn’t break the bank. but the nearly empty parking lot spoke volumes.

The carvings are amazing to look at from the ground but even more so from the sky lift!!! The museum was pretty cool to learn more about the Civil War and the Carvings!!

It was exactly what we expected as far as the carving goes, but the amusement park exceeded expectation. This is a definite must do especially with kids.

There is more to do here than just do see the mountain carving. There's a museum and train ride and, if you are there at the right time of year, a night laser light show. The skyway ride gives you a better appreciation of the size and complexity of the carving in the mountain. You can also test your inner athlete by running up and down the mountain (base to top).

Still like viewing this monument even after many, many years. its amazing how big it really is upclose.

The history behind this monument is so interesting. Didn't know how many years it took to complete this carving. So glad we came here to view it! The view at the top of the mountain was just awesome!

Stone Mountain, like Mount Rushmore, has carvings in the Mountain. They have a laser show most of the year and it is awesome.

The Carving is cool, the skylift is a nice ride, maybe I had high expectations, but I was not impressed with visit. It's like an amusement park with no rides, long lines, expensive food and not alot to see. I don't know how this is the #1 rated attraction..Would no go back.

Since I wasn't interested in the park, I decided to climb the mountain to see the carving. Unfortunately, no where online was it clear that you could not see the carving if you climbed the mountain. What a disappointment! Many others also did the climb with the same misconception and weren't happy about it. It was a moderate climb, so elderly struggled to get to the top. Once there, I decided to spend the $12 to ride the gondola down so I could see the carving. I then took the shuttle back to the parking lot designated for climbing the mountain.
The carving was overrated.

A must see this place the carving is so clear and very high do not know they do it. The largest high relief sculpture in the world, the Confederate Memorial Carving, depicts the three Confederate figures of the civil war. President Jefferson Davis, General Robert E. Lee and Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson.

Skylift was down on the day we visited so carving was only viewed from museum. The "carving museum" is not all that great.

Stone mountain is definitely a monument everyone should go see. The history and workmanship on the monument is amazing.

A must see. The skyride to the top is fast but very tight. Everyone stands close together. Make sure to stand on the correct side so you can see the carving from the skyride. At the top you can walk around on the rock til closing. Snacks / srinks / restrooms & gifts are at the top.
Make sure you check ahead to see the hours the skyride is open.

I is worth seeing but I would not visit it again. It not stand out or provide the artistic value that I was expecting.

I read you could enter the park without a cost but to drive in it cost $20 then when we got to the entrance to see the carving there was an admission booth. If you only want to walk and see the carving because everything else requires a ticket ask them if you must buy an admission ticket. That part is not clear and the activities are really geared towards children except the tram to ride over the carving or the train to drive by it neither is necessary if you only want to view the carving.
I had friends tell me the carving is more spectacular then Mount Rushmore. I dont agree but it is a very interesting exhibit.

Beautiful carving on rock which has become controversial. My family viewed it when I was a girl and it was being worked on. No matter which side of the controversary people take sides with, it can not be denied that this is a beautiful piece of art. It is amazing and worth a trip to see this and consider the effort it took to create it. Anyone who appreciates fine works of art or wants to better understand parts of history that may be neglected in some school programs will want to view this and read about those on the carving. And there is so much more to enjoy at Stone Mountain.

This is the coolest thing I’ve seen in a while. How was this even done? It is totally awesome and worth checking out. Pictures do not do it justice!

I love the carving and the story behind it, as well as the whole park. The only thing I could say negative is the pollution has really made the rock dark and spotted so much so that it is difficult to see the detail of the carving. Maybe they could sand blast or pressure wash it? I don't know the answer just could use something to help it show up more.

The fact that this monument exists is a slap in the face to fair-minded Americans. It's not history. It's a monument, a tribute to white supremacy. A piece of taxpayer funded hate. It should be sand blasted smooth and returned as close as possible to it's natural state.

The mountain is awesome to see! It is amazing that you can stand at bottom and look up at it. Or ride gondola to top!

this is a trip that never gets old. the carving is magnificent, and most impressive. riding the gondola is much fun, but the hike is too.

We decided to go to Stone Mountain Park for the 4th of July! I am glad that we made that decision which turned out to be a good one. The carving in the mountain is said to be larger than the one at Mount Rushmore. It is easy to view from the grounds of Stone Mountain Park. They even have a laser show year round at the rock.

It costs $15 to enter the park but it is well worth it to see the largest relief in the world. Although Mount Rushmore looks more impressive (the details on this carving are harder to see), it is still a sight to see. We did not take the Sky Ride to the top but spent time in the museum looking at the displays that show the size of the carving. You can take great pictures next to these replica parts of the carving.

Great historic attraction! They also have this amazing laser light show every night. We normally bring a blanket to lay on the lawn and a cooler filled with drinks and snacks. Note: during holidays, you may want to come as early as possible because the lawn fills up quickly.

Beautiful carvings. Enjoyed listening to the story of how they were etched into the stone and how long it took them. Worth visiting.

You may as well stop by and take some pictures at the carving if you're going to be in the park anyways...lots of history in the park and many activities also. View was blocked by the winter structures though...

One of a kind beautiful place to visit. The view is absolutely amazing. I recommend if you have not gone, to go at least once.

Yes...this ARTISTIC carving on this huge exposed granite is magnificent. Anyone who came here from another country and who viewed it would not know the history and would instead be amazed at the sculpture itself and what it must have taken to complete it. First and foremost, this carving is the largest single work of sculptural art in the world. The carved-out area on the face of the mountain measures 190 feet by 305 feet for a total of 57,950 square feet.
General Robert E. Lee, the central figure in the carving, stands 90 feet high and 27 feet wide. His head is 12 feet 6 inches by 15 feet 6 inches and his left arm measures 38 feet. Lee's sword measures 50 feet long and the carving of his famous horse, Traveler, will measure 141 feet from nose to tail. Some have said that the horse is not the true portrayal of Traveler but who am I to challenge this claim.
Even Mt Rushmore in South Dakota can't be compared with Stone Mountain's carving for several reasons. The figures on Rushmore are four individual carvings, completed and unveiled at different times and only about 65 feet in height.
The Stone Mountain carving is truly special for our time and it is a proper memorial to those who served and those who died in behalf of a cause that molded and shaped the destiny of America.
We need to all use this as an historical reference about our past. What is that saying you always hear? It goes like this, "Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it."
Come and see this and remember and not repeat that part of history.

This is a must see, it is bigger the mount Rushmore and the detail is spectacular , you can see it by cable car but what a work of art.

You can't really tell how big the carving actually is. It is really cool and impressive to see it on the side of a gigantic mountain of granite sticking out of the ground.

Politically correct or not, the story behind the carving and the carving itself are pretty amazing. The shear size is crazy. Other than the Black Hills, I am not aware of anything like this in the states. The carving as the backdrop for the laser show is awesome.

Very disappointed. We had trouble finding the carving. Better guidance signs are needed. The whole place is outdated . The carving is not as vivid as I was expecting it to be. I will not be recommending anyone to spend their time to see it.
The history of the making of the carving was very interesting, and I am glad that there is a monument to the history of our nation.

We were recommended to this park by friends who had stayed here in the summer. We were disappointed that many of the things to do, such as the train and laser show were not available when we visited. The camp site was tight and slanted for our Motorhome. The view however was wonderful, we also met some very nice and helpful people in camp sites around us.

After 20+ years living in the Atlanta area, I am still amazed at how anyone could carve something this detailed and large on a completely vertical mountainside. The fact that it recesses 42' into the mountain is amazing. It covers nearly 1.56 acres and is 75 feet high and about 160 feet long.
While the subject matter of the carving is increasingly contentious as of late, and there has been local discussion of its potential removal, it is hard not to be awestruck by it.
The carving is something you have to see on your first visit to SM.

Jefferson Davis, Robert E Lee and Stonewall Jackson carved into a mountain. This 'memorial' to the Confederate States is magnificent. It is pretty spectacular when viewed from ground level but you can get even closer on the Summit Skyride.

Very pretty area to visit. Be sure to check out the museum that has a documentary about the history of the mountain. Very interesting if you enjoy history.

Definitely worth researching and viewing while in Atlanta. Went it’s a bunch of friends and everyone enjoyed the opportunity.

Great to see and learn about the history here. We try to come many times a year and always learn something new. If you get a chance to watch the movie in the theatre about the carving it is very intersting.

Was an awesome sight. Rode aerial tram and could see just how big it was. Learned the history of it. Didn't realize that it was carved so big. The show they put on was awesome.

This monument may not last long. But, if you want to see it, I found that the skylift is the best way to view it. To get to the monument, you need to pay a pretty expensive fee for entrance to the Stone Mountain park. Then you need to purchase a round trip ticket on the sky lift. There are other site, but they all involved a lot of walking or another big fee for an attraction.
On the Sky Lift, stand on the right side. You cannot see it from the left hand side as the visitors block your view. The carving is impressive. It has four horsemen of the Confederacy. The Skylift attendant does give a short introduction to this monument with it dimensions and the names of the Horsemen.

Great history of carving in the film presentation to help you understand how it was done. It is much larger than what you percieve it to be.

The world's largest relief carving never disappoints. Unless it's viewed in person, the massive size and work it took to create Stone Mountain's carving are truly hard to appreciate.

It's been a LONG time since my parents first brought me to Stone Mountain, but as an adult I can appreciate the work that was put into the carving. Very cool to see in person...but the laser show is highly overrated and a tad on the cheesy side.

The museum is a great place to learn all about the carving. There is a short film detailing how long it took to complete and the contributors to the process.

I don’t think this gets enough promotion. The carving is amazing. We parked at the Quarry exhibit which is also very interesting and walked to the park. This is a well done park used by everyone and a memorial to our history. The park is well maintained and worth the $20.

No need to guess about this one. It's plain to see the site is outdated and all you see is the horrible picture of what's in front of you. A nice monogram would look great there in this day and time. We're moving into the tech ages. This depiction of the confederate army is a waste for a good visual.

As you learn about the size of this monument you realize it’s much bigger than it appears! Laser show is on hiatus but it’s a site to see none the less.

Whether you are a Northerner or Southerner, this is a place to start your family discussions about a pivotal part of America's history.

I visited Stone Mountain with my wife and daughter. It's an impressive feat of art. We then traveled through the park to the Quarry exhibit. That was very informative.

You're going to be one of two different types of tourists to this site: One of those "Heritage Not Hate" people who celebrate the Confederacy, or someone totally disgusted that they were still building monuments to Jefferson Davis as late as 1970. There's no history to be taught here, just an anti-intellectual, rose-colored romanticism of the Civil War. Be aware of the experience you're signing up for.

Great films and museums that go into the history, environment, and then a theme park too. The top of the mountain is a great place to view the area and is a wonderful vista. Good for a hike or challenging run on the rock. This place is much more than just this great carving.

the carving on stone mountain is awesome. They also do the light show in front of the carving during the summer , We haven't been in a while but always go at Christmas and the fall festival .I remember when the yrly pass was 2.00 , now its 40.00 :( bummer

Smaller than you would think lol but a great landmark to visit. The history in the memorial hall was interesting too. Would go again if we could avoid that stupid, price gouging to get into the park with the all attraction passes and $20 parking.

You can view the carving without paying an admission fee. Scaffolding (presumably left over from the laser light show) obscured our view and prevented us from getting good pictures. Free ten-minute video with comfortable seating inside the building. $12.95 fee for adults to go in the two-story museum. Nice gift shop with a good variety of goods.

It's neat to see but doesn't take long. This is just a pass through to other attractions. There is a large lawn to put out a blanket and chairs for the laser show.

The carving is amazing up close and personal. The foliage around it was breathtaking. Such great history!

I have been to Stone Mountain many times, and looking at the carving never gets old. It is truly a work of art. Lately our history has come under attack. Thank God this one is carved in granite. You need to see the story of the carving in the theater in the Memorial .

Awesome to see in person. The park is kept very nice. Certain nights they have a laser show at 930p. Bring a blanket and you can lie on the lawn. Must see!

I'm a native European Southerner, with even a strong claim that I descended from General Nathan Bedford Forrest on my mother's side, Forrests from Tennessee. But I detest the carving and wish it weren't there. There are many reasons to be proud of the Southern heritage that European descendants and African descendants share, but anything to do with the slavocracy is not one of them.

This was a great sight to see. I loved the adventure with my son and my niece. My son loves history so of course he loved this.

We had a lovely ride to the top of the mountain. It was a clear day and we were able to see Atlanta. After returning to the ground, we continued our day. We enjoyed the train ride and played miniature golf. My granddaughter enjoyed the challenge course. There is a rock climbing wall that older children were enjoying. Lots to do.

Went to visit Stone Mountain with the sole intention of viewing this carving. We were told the history of the carving and toured the museum, but the carving overall left a lot to be desired. To begin, the carving is EXTREMELY dirty, and it's very difficult to actually distinguish the relief carving from the dirt surrounding it. When asked how often the relief was cleaned or touched up, the staff seemed confused by this question as though it never occurred to them. I'm not sure why the relief is so dirty, whether it's from acid rain, runoff from the buildings at the top of the mountain, or what. However, they need to institute a method of cleaning it so that the carving is at least discernible among the rest of the mountain. I've seen other photos where the carving is clean, so I know it must occur.
Overall, the carving and the history behind it are really cool, but I wish that the carving was maintained better so that it could really be the masterpiece it was intended to be.

It doesn't seem like much in photographs, but it's quite impressive in person. The size and the context of the surroundings surprised me. It's not the campy thing I was expecting but a real work of art. We only had the afternoon to see the area and we missed the laser show that evening and it was still worth the visit.

Those of you traveling in search of the truth in US history will find this monument interesting, cultural stimulating as well as a boost in understanding the times we live in.Those of you with an artistic background will marvel at the status nature of this living memorial to history

This area is amazing and the carving and the mountain definitly worth to watch. I 100% recommend taking the ride on skyride.

I visited Stone Mountain with my two boys. We learned quite a bit about the days of the Civil War from reading the various plaques while walking around. The ride up the mountain is a highlight, as well as standing as close to the edge as you can (safely, and with fencing all around). The views were pretty great from the summit and I enjoyed the brief history lesson on the ride up and back down!
My one complaint is EVERY single thing is an additional charge. There were extra things for kids (aimed at kids a bit younger than mine, who were 12 and 13 at the time of our visit), but each one was an additional charge. We were just starting our journey across the entire US, so I had not counted on EXTRA charges at an attraction we had already paid to enter and enjoy. Needless to say, my kids were slightly disappointed that we could not find a single "extra" that was included in the price of admission.

Favorite colors in mountain view in the field and distant thunder is appropriate for me. The smell and experience with the right person who enjoys being a part of Life. A wonderful day in the park with laid-back guy who will stroll down to earth and throw a blanket on a corner spot to pass the time with visual arts and music is probably worth his weight for the long haul. Experiencing the different types of family, cuisine and atmosphere is appreciated and sought after in Southern United States of America. It's just knowing someone that is willing to solve the mystery of the Southern part of the individual. The best part of our life together in the region is secret get aways unscheduled awesomeness. Knowing what you like. The people are there and so is the views. Enjoy Georgia.

The carving is a work of art and should be treated as such regardless of any political views. It is also freaking huge. The tram that takes you up to the top gives awesome views of both the carving and the surrounding area.

Went to check out the park, while in Atlanta. We went about 5:30 pm. They charged each car $20.00 to enter. We had never been there so we asked what was there to do. The collection person, said well the main park is closed for the season but you can hike. We weren’t hiking but wanted to see the carving. Told her that’s what we wanted to see and she said we needed to pat the money to get in.. We paid and went in. The carving was beautiful, but I think if nothing else is open, the price should be lowered or no charge at all.

As a professor of history, I support leaving monuments, even those with which I disagree because they can tell us so much about the time period when they were created as well as the people who created them. Put them in context, tell the story, but never take them down.

Carving is excellently presented and not intrusive at all. Make sure you explore the history behind the carving. It is a piece remembering a piece of history and the characters in that history.

I recently went to see Stone Mountain with a friend. The large viewing lawn was covered by the "Snow Mountain" park, which made it hard to get good pictures from the free area. Overall, I just don't think this is that great an attraction.

Very beautiful carving. It's a lot more impressive in person LOL We didn't get a chance to ride the sky line but I can imagine that seeing it from that view is even better

The carving at Stone Mountain is a marvel. The history is fascinating. There is a memorial hall with exhibits that include "life size" pieces of the monument. They make you realize how immense and amazing it is.

the mountain is located inside of the park and it was the only thing we could see when we were there. everything else was closed

This was real cool! My sister and I enjoyed it very much. There’s so much history! Will definitely do again!

The carving is breathtaking and certainly an historical icon. The message of unity and brotherhood was so inspiring and blessed. Clearly there is no issue regarding the glorification of slavery. It is our history and whereas slavery is a component, it isn’t the crux of this monument. It was extremely well done. The laser show was also very good.

In a nearby building, there are large photographs displayed on the wall that feature the sculptors at work. The sculpture is monumental in size. And, at night, this is where the laser light show takes place. Feel free to get a close view by taking the sky ride.

Fantastic carving of historical figures. Large enough that you can see the carving details from the cable car.

this is def a "do not miss." try to go at night at christmas. the place is amazing and a great drive thru in your car with the family. decorations are fantastic. the laser light show will bring you chills and the music is great. we had season's passes and went here day and night all the time. miss it now that we no longer live in georgia.

It doesn't seem like much in the pictures but is quite impressive in person. The sky ride really gets you up close and personal. The museum was a disappointment; considering the carving is of three confederate heroes, there was no mention in the museum of who they were or why they were important enough to be memorialized.

I enjoy the park and the available activities, too. Walking around the 5 mile mountain is the most rewarding part for me. The boats when I was lots younger were fun. My deceased maternal uncle was an employee that did the carving.

Celebrate the men who fought to divide the nation by visiting this beautiful bas-relief monument in the heart of Georgia. Commissioned by the founder of the second Ku Klux Klan in 1915 William J. Simmons, this symbol of pro-slavery leaders, Jackson, Davis, and Lee towers over the natural beautiful landscape of surrounding the mountain. Take in the stunning views of the surroundings on the skyride gondala to the summit of this monument of white supremacy. At the top of Stone Mountain you can brood at the city of Atlanta with it's majority black population which can be seen from a distance. These generals of hate come to life at night with the Lasershow Spectacular is a not-to-be-missed Georgian tradition.

First time being in Stone Mt. Saw the laser show tonight - wow, really impressed. With the current political climate, they did an excellent job of saluting the USA and not dividing groups of people but unifying us all. Don’t miss this.

we took the cable care up to the top of stone mountain - very pretty and you are able to walk on the top of the mountain. Beautiful views of the surrounding areas.

We had a truly disappointing experience, as the explanation given by the ticket vendor was confusing and very unclear regarding the cable car schedule and the possibility of walking at the top of the rock, which was our main objective in order to appreciate the view and the landscape at sunset. It really wasn't worth paying more than US$600 (there were eight of us) only to be prevented from enjoying nature and instead being pressured into taking a tour designed for children, through tunnels and enclosed structures that didn't allow us to appreciate the scenery. Additionally, at the ticket office, despite being required to specify an exact time for taking the cable car, which was 5:15 p.m., the schedule was clearly not followed. We were kept waiting for more than 35 minutes before we could actually begin the journey. Even more unbelievable is that they supposedly shouldn't have sold us the tickets in the first place, since it was only possible to go up and explore the top of the rock until 4 p.m., something we only found out later in a surprising and inconvenient way. To make matters worse, when we requested to speak to the park supervisor to explain the situation, her presence was completely useless because instead of giving us clear explanations for the mistakes they had made, she denied that it had happened and even argued that we were lying, even though another employee (at the top of the rock) had already confirmed to us that they had received several complaints about the same mistake in previous days. Unfortunately, the expectations we had for seven days, hoping for the best weather to enjoy the view at Stone Mountain, were shattered by inaccurate information, negligence, and poor customer service from their staff. For this reason, we do NOT recommend that you waste your money on this attraction.

We saw it on the way up. Not sure it is qualified as a separate attraction but whatever. It’s a stretch. But obviously took time and talent.

The park is very large and the carving is the centerpiece. Is there any way of protecting it from the environment, the pollution?
Enjoyed the history lesson

Great place for families. You can hike to the top or take sky ride weather permitting. There is plenty of space on the lawn to watch the laser show. Bring your own chairs or blankets. There is also reserved seating options along the lawn area for a fee. Includes popcorn, ice cream and soda/water. The train ride is OK, best part is last 2 minutes as it passes the carving. The laser show is about 45 minutes. It has something for all age levels. Good variety of music during the laser show. If you are buying a package on a busy day, get the VIP add on. For $10, you go to the front of the line and you get free photos to include the digital ones.

This park was so much more than we had expected. We took the sky lift was definitely the way to go if hiking is not your thing. It was amazing to be at the top of the mountain and look out over the trees and see the Atlanta Skyline in the background. The carving on the side of the mountain was amazing, as well. Definitely a must see.

This carving is amazing! It is huge! We didn't get to see the laser show, was canceled due to weather. But they did shoot off fireworks. Climb to the top if you can.

Okay.. So it's a carving, right? But it's much bigger than it looks and amazing that someone (actually several someones) were able to do this. Also, great views at the top!! Seriously a must see.

We gone to Stone Mountain Park to see the carving...Pictures just doesn't do it justice, this is an attraction you have to view in person..

Poorly maintained and doesn’t exactly provide the type of history that the USA should be known for to the world.

The history of this carving is very interesting and if you are in the area don't miss it. In the evening there is a laser light show which brings the carving to life. It's a little cheesy but entertaining.

The carving of Robert E Lee, Jefferson Davis and Thomas Stonewall Jackson is an incredible sight to behold.
Bring one of the largest relief carvings in the world, it brings a uniqueness to Stone Mountain and to the state of Georgia.

The carving is in very good shape. All kinds of vantage points for a photo shot, but the best view is from the Summit Skyride.

In the building in front of this Confederate carving is an information table with pamplets giving information about the carving process and history. Reading this helps make one appreciate the vast size of the carving. There is also a movie about the process.

While most park attractions were temporarily close we were able to enjoy walking around and driving around. The laser show was being ready for the winter season. We did get to walk near the carving and see it. The park reopened the week after we were here.

I thought the carving was good, but not a must see. It is viewed from a distance, and though I appreciate the time and effort that went into it, it did seem underwhelming. The area around the viewing is commercialized and unappealing. We found the hikes around the park to be more stimulating. But, do see this before the PC police dynamite the bad confederates off the mountain!

Stone Mountain is a nice family spot, something for all ages even swimming.
If you like hiking or a quiet stroll this is the place.

I visit Stone Mountain Park weekly and walk however, I rarely go into the lawn area to see the carving. I went on the lawn one morning very early around 7.am. Very quiet and had the chance to sit on the lawn close up. I was very captivated to see the carving close up and there were no distractions.

to see these carvings in person is all inspiring! The entire Stone Mountain Park is an amazing place with so much to see and do, so I highly recommend taking several days to visit.

When you first see the carving, you just think it is a carving. When the carving is examined you see the carving is really detailed and a lot bigger than you think. I learned things about the carving that I didn't know like the depth of the carvings and the generals. This is an interesting piece of history.

We wanted to see the carving while we were in town. Something for everybody here. The train was ok, but the skyride is a must. Try to get on first and get next to window for best view of carving. The top views are amazing.

Worth a trip! Part of American heritage, stop here! Amazing natural feature. Gorgeous carving, doesn't matter if you are from the south or not .part of our country's history

Really neat to see the carving in person! Incredible views and informative displays of the states. Well worth the visit to the park and see the neat attractions.

Amazing carving which I saw in 1972. It's weathered the years well. Trees need to be trimmed away from other monuments on the property. Museum, does not exist!

This carving was designed and carving originally began by the person who carved Mt. Rushmore. The carvings takes up 3 acres and is the largest carving in our country. It features Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson, all leaders of the confederacy. There is a museum and video to learn more about the history. Whatever your feelings are regarding the Civil War, it was history that shaped our country and we can all learn from it. The art work itself is impressive and the carving is large enough that you can see detail in the faces of the men.

With all the destruction of Southern heritage that has been taking place, we wanted to pay our respects to the hero's on the mountain. I was so excited to see the carving in person and was amazed at the detail. I pray that the state of Georgia will not now down to the political correctness movement and that this true work of art will remain a tribute to my Southern roots.

It was just ok. I enjoyed the lawn, laser show, and fireworks on the 4th of July week. There is some interesting history plaques around the lawn on each Confederate State.

My grown daughter and I visited Atlanta for some mother/ daughter time. We had two occasions we were celebrating, so we had our own fun for four days. Stone Mountain was filled with interesting things to do. Of course, we went to the top of the giant rock and had a spectacular view of the area. We saw the pumpkin patch and went to the Daisy festival. The evening laser show was wonderful. Stone Mountain is not to be missed. Also, the employees seemed to enjoy where they worked and were welcoming and helpful.

I enjoy taking my friends and visitors to the park to see the carving, and tell them about the history behind it.

This is a great venue to visit. It is a great way to see the outdoors and relax. The etching is absolutely beautiful and has history that we should all be reminded of. Fact. The etching is bigger than Mount Rushmore. It does cost twenty bucks to get in the park. But everything that you need to see is free from there. Bring a cooler and chairs and enjoy.

I wish I would have worn good walking shoes not flip flops. This is a great family fun place to go. I will return

Wow, it begins with a tribute of all branches of our military being recognized and appreciated and ends with the National Anthem!!! AND every minute of this show, in between, is enjoyable and inspiring.

This was a spur of the moment, for splits and giggles type of stop. Though we wanted nothing to do with supporting a confederate monument, it’s one of those we’re here so we might as well before it’s gone types of things.
First of all, admission is now $20. If you want to see it, you have to pay. Unlike Mount Rushmore, that you can see from many viewpoints in the parks and natural areas around the sculpture park, you can’t see this one unless you pay to get in.
The lawn area is no longer free with admission. You now have to pay extra. The area that you view from that is not on the lawn is now surrounded by a metal fence. The gondola was down due to winds.
As for the monument itself, I couldn’t stop laughing once I saw it. You have this HUGE mountain dome and this teeny, tiny eroded little carving. You could not even make out who was supposed to be who or anything. It was HILARIOUS.
I feel embarrassed for Georgia that this is one of their major tourist attractions. Sure you can enjoy the trails and other aspects beside looking at this tiny, poorly done carving, but that being said, there are much better, FREE places if you just want to hike and enjoy nature such as Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve, Panola Mountain State Park or heck even Brasstown Bald.

This is the kind of attraction that suits all ages. The gondola ride up to the top and down again is narrated and gives visitors all kinds of great information. OR you can hike it, of which there are varied trails of challenge. Seeing Atlanta from this vantage point is spectacular and realizing the nature of how Stone Mountain came to be is a wow factor. Let’s not omit the stone carvings on the side as well. History, geology and art all in one visit.

Visited Stone Mountain to see the famous carving on it. Managed to see it albeit from a distance. The stone mountain itself is huge indeed. My friend who brought me here is a local, hence I got a bit of history of how the carving got there & its amazing size. Glad that I come here.

I guess I am one of those that believe that we should study history, not rewrite it. This carving is to honor the men who served in the confederate army. I do not believe we should destroy things because they might represent something we do not necessarily agree with. This is a part of American history and I think if you are in the Atlanta area you should plan to visit this carving at Stone Mountain.

Perfect experience. Read the history before you go. Appreciate this beautiful piece of history. I never imagined our monuments disappearing or being removed. Makes seeing these pieces of our nation so much more needed.

Great mountain to hike with your family! Not difficult, easy walking trails to guide you. We also got on the train and toured around the mountain.

The park is nice and clean, but a tourist money trap for sure. It is worth going to see the carving, but be prepared to pay to play. it was $20 per person to enter and many of the park areas are roped off and require additional purchasable wristbands before you can even walk through the area.

I’m not sure I had even heard of Stone Mtn, let alone it’s craving. Was looking for something to do with 4 teenage girls, that wasn’t very expensive . We were all in Awww. Iit is a must see.

Definitely take the Skyride to the top of the mountain . . . unless you want to hike the trail to the top. But DO get to the top. Down below, there is a ropes course, a "geyser" climbing playground - will get wet, and a animatronic dinosaur park (probably interesting for the little ones). You can purchase the "Attractions Pass" online if you want to do everything, but you can also just pay for the Skyride separately the day of your visit. We did not stay for the laser show.

I must see! Spend the day and do everything! The view from the top is breathtaking. Just sit up there a while and just look around. Learned a lot and kids had fun. Laser show was about 45 mins. Take chairs, blankets, and pack a picnic. Great to see family's playing cards or throwing a frisbee while waiting on the show.

The Mountain carving the nice. But that was the only thing that was nice. The rest ever experienced with horrible

Don’t go during Thanksgiving time through New Years if you want to see the carving for free. They charge you $42/person to see the carving. No free views at all except over a building! You’re better off getting the attraction pass for $40 and get to do fun stuff in addition to seeing the carving. Our budget wouldn’t allow that for our family, so if you’re on a budget, plan to come during the other part of the year.

laser light show at night is awesome, they do have reserve terrace seating or you can just sit out on the lawn

It was cold and windy when we stopped by so there wasn't much open. With that said we enjoyed seeing the carving and taking in the area. If you find yourself in the area, added to your list of things to see.

stone mountain is a great place to be during the fourth of july. theres so much to do. me and my family went on the sky life, and the stone mountain hotel is great. on the 4th of july, people sit in front of the mountain and watch the fireworks and laser show . 10/10

Not nearly as magnificent as Mount Rushmore, but still very impressive. We missed the laser show, but I'm sure it's great.

Great place to visit, would highly recommend! The tram is a 13 dollar ride a peice but it's worth the view.

I love Stone Mountain Park. As a native Georgian, I have been climbing this mountain since I was a small child with my family and now my own children and grand children enjoy it. I have been a Mountain Member for many years. However, the new memberships are so limiting and to enjoy the park's features you must pay and book separately. It is no longer enjoyable.

We really enjoyed our day here. There is a charge for driving in and parking (I believe it was $15, but wasn't driving!) Then there is a charge for entering the park itself, normally $30 pp on up depending on age. That gets you an all attractions pass which gets you in to all exhibits and activities. We rode the tram up to the top of the mountain and saw amazing views. The tram has several bench type seats, and the rest is standing room with hang straps to hold onto. There is a snack bar up there if you are looking for something to eat.
Memorial Hall was a great place to get the story on the background of the carving as well as to see some replicas of a small part of the carving which gives a nice way to see how large it really is. The train is a nice ride all the way around the mountain and gives a different view. Two members of our group did the ropes course and said it was fun (ages 35 and 62). We didn't have time to do the miniature golf course, but it looked like fun.

The place has a lot of things to see and do. The sky lift and views from top are great. Train ride and history interesting. Laser show fantastic- graphics and sound. Bring chairs or blanket. Food mostly for kids-pizza, burgers and dogs.
Easy to picnic and bring your own with easy access to parking lot.
Good walking shoes needed!

We had a great time snow tubing. Lines moved quickly. Got several rides in. Wish there was more to do around park. We had Snow/Christmas combo with meal. Defentally recommend getting meal with combo. You get your meal, unlimited drinks all day, and a hot chocolate. Overall it was a good time, especially if you're from Florida and don't get to see snow. Kid will love it.

This was our second visit to the park. We loved sharing the history and the park to our son and his girlfriend.

Enjoyed our visit to Stone Mountain. It is one of those things that everyone should see. The history and presentation were good.

Overpriced but this a beautiful place to visit. Check the calendar: almost everything is closed except the sky lift and historical area. Be prepared there’s a $20 parking fee you have to pay before you enter. Lift ticket is $15.

This is an amazing mural. This was a treat on our trip. If you are a history buff it’s a must see. Love it!!

Got to see the carving when we visited the park. There is a small museum where you can see the carving as well as life size replicas of parts of it. there are also informational pieces and comparisons of the carving to other attractions such as Mount Rushmore and the Statue of Liberty.
Absolutely beautiful and breathtaking. Highly recommend.

This is such a strange place to visit. Interesting history and monument. Everything around the memorial is just confusing. I just picture the meeting when they are discussing the fact that attendance to the confederate memorial is down. Some person raising their hand and saying “Let’s add dinosaurs!”, and that’s exactly what they did. The park beside the memorial has a strange dinosaur museum, a 4-D movie that was playing Yogi Bear, and a year round Christmas store. Such an bizarre combination of ideas to get visitors to a confederate war memorial.

The monument is awesome. The size is deceiving. The laser light show is great. Definitely take the cable car to top.Come see it before the fanatics have it sandblasted

If you are going to visit Stone Mountain you wouldn't want to miss the carving and the ride up the mountain. You can also walk up the mountain if you want. Takes around 30-45 minutes

This carving is really neat to see . Many ways to see as taking a walking trail, relaxing on the lawn , night laser shows , with the quarter binoculars, inside the exhibit they have giant scales of some of the men and horse as well. See this exhibit before the acid rain destroys it or lightning hits this beautiful art

We came to Stone Mountain to see the carving, and we were able to do that, albeit from a distance and through scaffolding. Nowhere on the web site did it say that nothing was open before 10AM, and that the train (and other attractions) don't even operate every day. We had hoped to ride the train around the mountain, but instead had to settle for driving...which was fine. On a Wednesday, there were really only joggers and bicylists to contend with.
At least we did get to see the carving, and we did get in a gift shop. And now I can say I've been there, done that.

Stone Mountain sure has changed since I had seen it last. Many new attractions there, including reserved seating (that was new to me). We enjoyed the laser light show. We did get to the park late, so we had to park further away. We would have felt better about more street lights around or 'park rangers' around. It got VERY busy towards the laser light show. Lots of fun!

As impressive as Mt. Rushmore. A part of our southern history.
Great time seeing this and riding to the top and seeing the views.
Went with my brother and my wife. She stayed on the ground while we rode up to the top.

First make sure you see the documentary on the story behind the making this tribute to our Nation's past! The documentry shows the years spent and the many lives touched in producing this great historical artifact. And showing how many times it almost never came to be..
EM

Somehow, I expected the carving to occupy more of the face of the mountain than it does. Unless you plan to get very close, you may need binoculars to get a good view of the 3 Confederate heroes depicted. For some history and background, sure to see the 2 films about the Mountain and its carving at the Confederate Hall before you do anything else.

We saw it at night during the lazershow and it was absolutely gorgeous. Bring a chair or a blanket and go to the show! It's free (just the $15 parking fee, valid for the day)

I went there everything was shut down because you're expecting rain very disappointed nothing was open we just walked around but will try again next time

It was an amazing day and night the carving itself was unbelievable to see and the view from the topic of the mountain was breathtaking. The laser light show was very entertaining. The only complaint was the food services were very expensive and not very good.

Beautiful! Part of our history. Sad that the statues have been removed. Gift shop needs to add more shirt sizes to inventory.

Appreciate the work that went into this but it was nothing after seeing Mt. Rushmore! Hard to make out details on it.

Should be protected - Piece of Art - amazing craft work - with really beautiful details - a joy to see!

It's a very nice and beautiful relief to see.
But the Skyride has been closed because of the wind, while we were on the line to get our tickets.
So we didnot have the chance to see the view from the top of the mountain.
Maybe next time ☺️🙏

For history buffs, Gutzon Borglum who ultimately became the chief designer of Mount Rushmore; had his horrible work blasted off the mountain and replaced with the incredible work that exists today.
For everyone else, enjoy the period piece that it is. Go to the museums, see the movies, learn the history, climb the mountain.

We had prepaid tickets including a meal. The market place was not at all organised. You didn’t know where to go or where to pick up food. Not many tables to sit down and eat. Food was lukewarm once you found a table. The cable up to top of mountain was good but packed. Great view. Laser show was cancelled and it was too cold to go back for fireworks. I think it is overpriced for what is there.

The famous Stone Mountain, not really, the amusement park right in from of the carving, not impressive. $ 15.00 in to the park is one thing but not my cup of tea.

This particular Granite Stone carving is a masterful art sculptured wonder to behold! It is gigantic and immense in; size, scale, and scope... It is also the biggest stone sculpture this side east of the Mississippi river! This particular stone carving depicts three southern war generals and heroes of the great American Civil War, in which "the price of freedom" cost us so many American lives on both sides... This monument is not a tribute to "Hate Mongering" as some might foolishly believe! I would kindly suggest, thoroughly researching the entire history of the Civil War, not just what's printed in liberal media textbooks or was portrayed by Liberal Hollywood media-moguls, after the war... It, was a long drawn-out, bloody, battle series of wholesale-slaughter, death, destruction, and horrendous war-atrocities committed on both sides, by our past American military forces, under the command of General Leadership, taking their “marching orders” directly from our nation's former Union and Confederate Politicians! They sent many good “God-Fearing”, Christian-soldiers to their deaths, fighting for what they were told was right and believed was right, at that time. All just to prove or secure (The Government Politician's) own politically/monetarily motivated self-interests, and points of view! Far too many of our Nation’s men died, fighting for or either against inevitable-change, for “better or worse”, at the steep price of our Nation's grievous, growing-pains, and the eternal struggle for Freedom; at all costs, on any front! This is where “all paid some and some paid it-all!” So, why should we bother honoring our fallen military war heroes? Because, most of them paid with their lives, as the ultimate price for freedom, believing in their Government Leaders and fighting for National stability, or change! They are not villains, they are simply human beings and Americans who fought for what they believed in, and they gave their lives to defend that cause! Just like we Americans have always done and still do to this day! We, keep "Freedom, Flying-Free" in America, it's what we continue to live for and will die for any day of the year! This Sacred and Wonderful Monument Honors some our National Heroes from our Past, and our Flag still stands, because of them as well!...

In this age of people with no respect of history I am thankful this monument is still here. For so many it's only a carving but has incredible history for the deep south! It could use a cleaning. We went late November 2017 and they had the snow mountain in the lawn in front of the mountain. Getting a good view without all the congestion was impossible. I am not sure that we ever got out grandchildren to see it and understand it for looking at all the people in the "snow"....

See,heres the part that shows people only go by what they are taught in school. I cant speak for jefferson davis. Yes generals lee and jackson were confederate officers. Dont mean they were on board with slavery. True. General lees family owned slaves, but he never owned any. General lee felt slavery was immoral and a sin. Any know who jim lewis was? Probably not. School systems dont teach about him. It would ruin their slavery narative. He was general jacksons black valet. He and general jackson prayed together every night. General jackson would ask for jims input on battle plans. Jim lewis was at general jacksons house the day the general passed away. No. Theres no hate coming from those 2 men towards the blacks.

Seeing the carving up close and personal is something to behold. A true work of art carved into granite. A beautiful tribute to the Civil War Heros. Riding by on the train or in the cable car gives you a close view of this carving and how detailed the features appear. A piece of history I am so glad I was able to visit.

The carving is a piece of our nation’s history. The mountain itself is so much larger in person and the carving is so detailed, and worth seeing.

This is an amazing masterpiece that took fifty years to complete! Very similar to Mt. Rushmore, you can get much closer to it. The size is overwhelming!
The associated museums, and other activities make for a great place to spend the day. One MUST take the cable car to the top of the mountain for excellent and unforgettable views!
The Laser show at night is a very entertaining show. Bring a lawn chair to sit in on the "Memorial Lawn". You'll be much more comfortable.
My only ironic note is that there it is in the heart of the South, with the three most revered men of theConfederacy, and nowhere do I see a Confederate flag anywhere. Well, almost nowhere. They did fly the four Confederate flags at the trail head to the trail to walk up to the top of the mountain, but they were overshadowed by a larger, higher, US flag. During the Laser show, the American flag was frequently emblazoned over the carving. Not once was the Southern flag. Come on... they couldn't spend 15 or twenty seconds out of an hour plus presentation to show the Confederate flag over these men? What would they think if they were to see this? That is a real shame.

The carving was amazing. Apparently the man who started it also went on to work on Mount Rushmore. There is a Wikipedia site about the history of why the carving is there, so I won’t get into that but I’m so happy I had the opportunity to see it and the park. I found it to be an amazing work of art and I think anyone might be interested in how the carving was accomplished.

Viewed it during the day from the train that circles Stone Mountain. Not as visible as I expected. Perhaps easier to see at night and also if you are not moving on a train

The Stone Mountain Carving is a great piece of American history. The entire process is an amazing story!

I viewed from the skyline car but you could see the detail and the side was incredible.
They explained who the statues were on the ride past and slowed so we could take photos.

We enjoyed the carving, nice piece of history. The laser show was nice and entertaining. A cool way to spend a summer evening.

Visited on Labor Day, great lazer and firework show over the carvings, party atmosphere and picnic, a free event.
Parking a little difficult and not enough rubbish bins as the ‘guests’ left food, beer cans, plastic bottles all over the ground of the amphitheater. Human nature i guess.

I loved the hike to the top, i just kept telling myself, " I cant quit, gotta reach the top."
Best selfies you take are w pure wilderness around you.

Take the time to learn the history, and to explore the area. Wonderful shows and museums. The carving has a detailed and complicated history.

The history here is one sided, it is what it is, but it is a really nice place. It is a great place to spend with the family...the kids love it! The train ride, Sky Hike, 4-D movie, and all the other sights as well. It's not about erasing history and things being outdated. It's about being in nature! Walking, fishing, boating, camping and all the other things you can do here. When you get here and ride or walk around the park, you see so many different people enjoying themselves. You see people that have made this place their home and they are proud. It is evident by the flags being flown outside their homes. And when you look closely everything is not what it seems. You see the proud people of Georgia come to a place where they feel safe to be out in nature. You have to remember this is a park, yeah a crazy history, but that is history, it's a park...! Come and enjoy yourself and see for yourself!

Very unique to this area and interesting to learn about. It is exciting to learn and study. It is a must see for the family.

The park is huge. There are two golf course, both in great condition. A lake, camping area, train ride around the mountain, many picnic areas, gray hotel, and a lazier show at night. The only thing controversial is the Confederate carving on the mountain.some say it’s history, while others say it glorifies hate. It actually is both. That should not diminish the rest of the park.

Trip up cable car and review of surrounding area from the top of Stone Mountain easy cable ride and walk around at top only feeling was that the cable car charge was excessive

This is a beautiful reminder of our past and how far we have come. It is a teachable moment and wonderful to see people from all cultures gathering at this site.

We used to do this every year when kids were little. Haven't been in about 30 years but went back last year and loved it. For an elderly couple it was worth paying for terrace seats. No way we could sit on the ground or carry chairs down and back. Great seats and great show. I loved how they outlined the carving with lasers and then animated the figures.

At first glance, the carving doesn't seem that impressive but when you hear it is bigger than Mt Rushmore you get a better feel for the effort that went into making this monument.

This relief carving is very cool. I believe it goes approximately 40 feet into stone mountain. It is a depiction of Robert E Lee, Stonewall Jackson and Jefferson Davis. This relief carving is the focal point for a weekly laser show during the summer. If you can put aside the controversial subject matter and appreciate the work itself… It is worth a visit.

Nobody is going to be removing this memorial, privately funded, there are concerts and shows at the base during the summer months. close to the freeway between Atlanta and Augusta.

I absolutely loved seeing the carving! Even if you stood on the ground you had a good view! It’s not insanely large, but it is pretty big! It’s definitely worth a stop in Stone Mountain especially if you love history!

This is definitely a sight to see. It seems small but the statistics they have really put it in perspective to how large the carving actually is. You can see the carving from anywhere in the park. It is a centrally located for all audiences to view no matter where you are. You do not have to sign up to see it. I really enjoyed seeing it from this area with nothing blocking the view i.e. buildings or etc. It made for a great picture! This area is located to the right of the "Snow Mountain Town" near the trails. There was a pond and a large grassy area which would be great to let your kids run their energy out if you needed them to.

A monument to the leaders of the Confederacy. A huge carving on the largest granite stone in the world. I am torn between marveling at the sculpture and artistry and wondering why we are honoring traitors to the United States of America? The museum goes into detail of the men who designed and carved the monument. A video of the Civil War in Georgia seems slanted to the losers and their cause and I frankly find that a little disturbing. Granny from "The Beverly Hillbillies" used to always say "The South shall rise again"... and I got the feeling that people still believe it. I predict that one day the radical lefties will want to blow this carving off of Stone Mountain... just like the Taliban blew the statue Buddha off a mountain face in Afghanistan and history and art will be lost forever.

viewed this during the laser show and tram ride up the rock. Pretty amazing! They carved 42 feet into the mountain, which is 90% underground. The rock spans 10-15 miles around the area.

Stay on the right side of the skylift going up for a really great view. Stay for the laser show to enjoy it the most.

But the carving is 3 acres in size and when you see copies of bits of the carving in the museum it reoriented. I remember Rushmore as more impressive because their faces are vastly bigger this is a must see

This is an amazing site to see how large this carving is. It could stand a pressure washing to make it stand out even more.

We were tipped to come here to see the three Confederate leaders carved into the rock. First you had to pay to go in and park ($20) then you would pay additional to see them closer up. We didn't do that because it was so windy and cold so we didn't want to go up the cable car. Took a photo from the parking lot.
But cool to see when you have also been to Mount Rushmoore.

We stopped at this park enroute to the Atlanta airport at an acquaintance’s suggestion . We were interested in seeing the carving and viewing some Civil War history . The carving was located on a small “mountain” in a lovely forested park. The carving was interesting but not what I expected. As described to me, I expected more of a Mount Rushmore type of sculpture in the mountain . At Stone Mountain, the faces were as many describe - carvings on the side of the mountain. The garden walk which discusses the Confederate states and their leaders, important battles occurring there, and notable people from the state was interesting. The park has conference facilities, restaurants, shops, lakes for kayaking and forests for hiking.

Not to ruin the ambiance...
But this carving is even more grand than it appears... at almost 50' deep in places it is huge.
Taking that into consideration, only makes it's backdrop even larger.

The laser show is a very nice attraction. The show starts at dusk and is great for all ages. You can bring a chair if you don't want to set on the ground.

This was recommended by our hotel staff as somewhere a lot of people go visit when in the area. $20 for parking is kind of ridiculous when everything was literally closed. Apparently everything except walking up to the relief is closed except for the weekends, which they don't communicate at the gate. We walked down to the relief and put aside the subject matter to appreciate the sheer size and work that went into the carving. We have yet to be able to visit Mt. Rushmore so seeing something from the same artist was cool. It opened a conversation with our younger child about the Civil War, of course in terms he would understand. There was a dinosaur something or another close to the carving, but it was closed and blocked off so you couldn't even see the one that was outside of the building. Apparently, they do some kind of light show at night, but we were there during the day. Driving out, it seems that the park has a lot of camping areas and is probably good for fishing and biking and hiking. We didn't have time to explore more. We can say we have been here, but we won't be back.

Didn’t feel compelled to take pictures. Our comments were “oh look there’s a mural. Someone worked hard on that I bet.”

it really worth a visit. all family had fun . tip: you should wear suitable clothes as it is really freezing up there. it is well organized and park is clean.

We drove through the park to see the carving on the mountain. No it's really not that impressive. I kept driving around thinking there was more that we had missed. Sadly there was not. Really not worth the side trip.

The carving is very unique but once you look at it, take a picture and leave. NO social distancing in the park

A must see if you come to the Atlanta area. Lots of history behind the carving. Just
Loved it. I would highly recommend this

Stone Mountain is a gem of a place to visit for adults, teenagers and kids. It is stroller and wheelchair accessible. The activities are great for everyone. The carving is beautiful and interesting to see how time colors it through the natural process. I wonder how often ( if at all) they clean the carving. The park is built around the carving in a respectable manner with smooth paths. We enjoyed staying for the awesome laser show too! We will return and recommend it to everyone.

This is a must see if you're in the area. Pictures of the carving don't really show the amazing work that must have gone into creating the carving.

A classic piece of American history incredibly carved into the side of stone mountain. A sight to see!

This is a beautiful carving. The laser show at night off the mountain is awesome. Going to the top is fun. They need to keep this beautiful carving on the side of the mountain.

It was a good exp to visit, way to many shops and not enough attractions to warrant a pass, and vip pass is a waste of money. But the train ride was nice on a hot day, the view was awesome. The junkyard band is more for young kids and they seem like the are off beat with the music, but very energetic. The 4d movie was pretty good with a suppose at the start. Food was reasonably priced. The sky ride was shaky and fun to top of mountain. The view on top is like no other. The ride down seemed quicker. Couldn’t find a shirt in shops above 3x.

Stone Mountain was a nice hike that probably took 30 minutes to reach the top. Some spots are a little steep but there was a railing to help. The hike would be very slippery if wet so use caution. The carving can be seen from the park at the bottom and is incredible due to its detail.

The carving is pretty big. great viewing area. It's a tourist destination but not overly crowded. Fun!

Spent the whole day here hiking. Lots to do in C for kids. Park is showing it’s age and is a little expensive. Bring your own food and have a picnic.

If you have never been to Stone Mountain, it is a must see. The carving is amazing and awesome to see. Come to Georgia and enjoy one of the most visited places - Stone Mountain Park. The park itself is beautiful with lots of things to do and places to shop.

We were very disappointed when we got to the mountain and saw the carving. We recently were at Mt. RUSHMORE and knew the man who designed and worked on that started this carving. It was nothing like Mr. BORGLUN'S work. I will have to go and see who actually finished this work after the departure of Mr. Borglun. The hike to the monument was nice.

Just moved to Georiga and having researched for places to visit - decided to give Stone Mountain a try. We booked a tee time for a around of golf and then planned on staying for the laser light show. What a beautiful day. Golfing was a bit challenging but fun. The carvings in the mountain was great. The laser show was very well put together and right on spot for message. A wonderful night to enjoy a piece of true history.

We've been to Mt Rushmore and this is much more spectacular! You have just got to go. One of Georgia's best kept secrets.

We spend the afternoon, did the skyline, the trails, the wooden bridge, the quartz exhibition and walk around the edge of the top of the mountain. Bring comfortable shoes and lots of sunscreen!!!

This is quite work of history and art. It is larger than Mt Rushmore. It is very interesting to see the visitors center and experience how this marvelous carving happened. It is not to be missed.

The carving are amazing. The book they sell in the gift shop tells a lot of information about the carving in the rock.

A great place to walk and picnic. The laser show has signifcantly changed since I was here last. The carving sculpture is impressive as art.

Always a good place to visit with my family. We love the carving and the history behind it. A must do is riding the sky ride to get the best view of the carving.

Great location with lots to do. The hotel staff is great. Local restaurants affordable. Staff at hotel friendly and very accommodating.
Beautiful
At a time when we are erase or rewriting history. It was amazing to see the stone carvings . Easy to see from the ground. Even better as you take the sky tram up
