We went for the Chihuly glass exhibit and were not disappointed but would have found the admission fee too high for just the home tour

Through the expertise of Justine, our tour guide, we learned a great deal about Frank Lloyd Wright, and his fascinating winter home, Taliesin West. This also became his architectural school where his apprentices not only learned under Wright, but also helped build and maintain the buildings. This is a walking tour with many opportunities to stop and sit while hearing interesting details. It is definitely worth the time to visit!

We enjoyed the audio tour and learned about Mr. Frank Lloyd Wright and the basic of his design concept in an hour. It’s a brief introduction to our 10-year-old daughter. Will definitely check out his other work including Taliesin in Wisconsin and Fallingwater.

It is a memorable place, very interesting and beautiful. I would definitely recommend to anybody that wants to experience a good memory!

We took the tour of this amazing school and toured this beautiful property Taliesin. I highly recommend this especially with teens considering architecture or any one that loves Frank Lloyd Wright. We were all amazed at the entire place and the stories to go with it .
The homes students created in the dessert were also incredible

Got there in the nick of time to get the audio tour (please note the last time they will allow you to take the one hour audio tour is at 4pm promptly)! The audio tour is set up to go through your phone. You get excellent instructions on where to walk, where to sit/stand, and what to observe. It was very informative and the house and grounds itself were fascinating. FLW was so thoughtful on how he used the local elements and the environment to create not just a pleasing looking living space, but one that is functional and in harmony with the local surroundings. Oh, and the gift show was excellent too! Beautiful earrings, jewelry, sculptures etc not just from FLW but from artists inspired by him.

Chihuly Nights was beautiful. Five gorgeous pieces of art with an iconic backdrop, and I was fortunate to go at sunset as well. That being said, it took me 20 ish minutes to walk through and then… that was it. Unless you want to stand around and wax philosophical on each piece, there’s really nothing else to see or do. Also, despite limited ticket sales, the grounds feel very crowded and every amateur photographer will be falling over themselves and you to get THE perfect shot. I wish I had spent $15 more to get the 90 minute tour during the day, as I may have walked away with more of an experience?

A must for fans of Frank Lloyd Wright and anyone who appreciates design and architecture. The location offers incredible views of Phoenix while also being visually stunning and interesting in its design. A short drive from Old Town Scottsdale and a unique stop to add when visiting the valley of the sun.

What an interesting place! We joined a guided tour and the guide was VERY informative. Like other Frank Lloyd Wright homes we have visited, this property is a marvel of bringing the nature in and placing the home in its natural surroundings. The story of its design, build and purpose is fascinating. I think teens would enjoy it, not so sure about smaller children. The guided tour is 90 minutes long, but well worth the time and cost. You can do a self-guided tour as well, but I would highly recommend the guided tour.

We visited Taliesin West on November 3 and were amazed at what we saw. We have visited several other Frank Lloyd Wright homes, including Falling Water, and had an idea what to expect, but still, the impact of seeing this place was strong. For one thing the size of it dwarfs other Wright homes we have toured. The location he chose makes it seem like the home just arose from the rocks. I highly recommend a visit.

We did the Taliesin West/Chihuly tour on 4/12/22.
Our tour guide was excellent, the tour and buildings were fun and the Chihuly glass exhibits were awesome.
The tour ran around 1.5 hours and cost $49 pp. We thought it was well worth it.
The site is easy to find from Frank Loyd Wright Blvd and has plenty of free parking.
A must see if you are a FLW fan.
Note:
You check in at the ticket booth near the gift shop prior to your tour and get a colored sticker for your tour. The tour guide rounds you up about 5 min. before the tour starts.

Ventured to Taliesin West in Scottsdale. Took a guided group tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable of The home & school. She shared some interesting insight in the life of Frank Lloyd Wright. Would highly recommend this tour if in the Phoenix area.

Our tour guide Myrna was lovely and so knowledgeable. This is wonderful gem worth visiting!
So many interesting details from that time in history. We were transported and loved every minute of it!

We took an Uber out there only to find that they were “sold out” for the remaining time slots, which was a bit disappointing. However, we happened to have time the next day, so we booked tickets online in advance and went back. We really enjoyed the experience and were glad we did. I’m not usually super into audio tours, but this one was really good. I downloaded the app on my phone and my husband and I each wore one side of my AirPods so we could go along the experience synchronized. It was really interesting and allows you to go kind of at your own pace to experience the aesthetics and feeling of the different spaces. I feel like I learned a ton about architecture, history and Frank Lloyd Wright and the impact he had on the world. We really enjoyed our time here and were so glad we had the time to go back. Their limited hours are a little annoying, but the limited number of tickets in time slots make sense so that there are an appropriate amount of people to make it a good experience for everyone and not too crowded. But do plan in advance and get your tickets ahead online to guarantee your spot.

This is the “summer camp” and home / home of Frank Lloyd Wright carved into the foothills of the mountain near Scottsdale. His unique and timeless architecture is on display everywhere and melds wonderfully into the backdrop of rugged terrain and saguaro cacti, mesquite and other desert flora.
Access is by tour only so be prepared to pay a fairly steep fee of $40 per person. In my view though it was well worth it. Our guide Kraig was exceptional and it was obvious he has studied the history of Mr Wright extensively. Ask for him for your tour if possible.

Great way to spend an hour while visiting Phoenix/Scottsdale. I really got a sense of Wright's philosophy of architecture. The audio tour was MOST helpful and easily comprehended. Just a terrific natural setting that enhances what he designed.

A must see/do tour if visiting the Scottsdale area. If you are lucky enough to have an engaging tour guide, you won’t want the 90 minute tour to end.

Incredible architectural Mind,Frank Lloyd Wright, that melds form and function to mirror and engage the surrounding desert and mountains. Enjoyed a guided group tour by Lori who was very knowledgeable about all things FLR. The tour was both outside the buildings (no masks) and inside the buildings (masks).
There are current installations of chihouley glass that fit seamlessly into the environment. They are spectacular beautiful and massive! They seem like they have always been there and I grieve for their future removal
Go now while the glass is on display. If you have visited before the C glass go back ASAP
Very very highly recommended
Slainte!

Like a flowing, flooded river in the desert. The building moves, builds energy and moves on like a river finding its way in a flood. Open spaces, pools of water collected, then bursting into a confined shady channel. The property seems to take you on a journey through timeless space, geometry at low ceiling points giving an eerie feeling of confinement that makes you stop and wonder at the simple brilliance of the architecture.
I choose not to listen to the audio guide and instead felt my way through the various spaces in silence, listening to my body and won’t say if I liked or disliked my tour as I don’t want the sensory experience to take on normality and fade away as it still lingers.

I loved seeing this beautiful place at night. Our tour guide was a lot of fun, with many stories about Frank Lloyd Wright and his proteges.

I took the basic 90 minute tour which was very informative and long enough to learn a great deal about Frank Lloyd Wright, his family, his apprentices and his legacy.

Our tour guide Frank was amazing! So knowledgeable, and answered all questions. We are frank Lloyd Wright fans, We have toured Falling Water, which is Stunning, but Frank really made this tour fantastic. He even took extra time with us. You can tell this is not just a job for him, He's passionate about it. Next up we plan to tour Taliesin in Wisconsin.

GUIDED Tour is a MUST! Tour Guides are EXCELLENT. The Self-Guided Tours require using your OWN phone or head-set---what a headache. More access to rooms/sites with a LIVE Guide. Taliesin West is a Frank Lloyd Wright gem. Be sure to visit the BILTMORE HOTEL in Scottsdale which he designed--- after seeing Taliesin---to see a functioning Frank Lloyd Wright design.

Beautiful and compelling! We took the in-person tour option (not the audio one) and it was worth it, especially to be able to ask questions. Even though I knew a good deal about Frank Lloyd Wright, I learned a lot. Well worth it!

Great stay, enjoyable staff and an overall good time. I would visit again in the future without a question

We love architecture -We went on the 90-minute Insights Tour, which was one of the best tours I have ever been on anywhere for anything. The facts were interesting. The tour host - Phil C - is a fantastic guide. He has a good speaking voice, shows his passion for Taliesin, and also exhibits just enough humor to make it fun and interesting.
I totally recommend touring this great treasure.

We went but could not get a tour because it was full
So would recommend to book in advance
We decided to stay there and around the gift shop also have a tea at the outdoor shop and just look at the architectural wonder that this place is !

We purchased our tickets on line about 3 months in advance. We booked a 9:15am tour. Unfortunately, I found the light at this hour not conducive for good photography, but due to our travel schedule, it was the only time that worked. If you’re into photography, perhaps an afternoon tour would be better.
On the day, we parked (complimentary parking, yay!) and checked in at the ticket booth. They directed us to the gift shop where we picked up the audio tour headphones. (You’re encouraged to bring your own as the audio tour is played through your phone).
The tour starts outside, so be prepared for being in the sun. I found each audio station quite long to listen to.
You are then directed to various rooms and more outdoor points of interest. There’s a docent in some rooms if you have questions. You can linger as long as you like and even sit on chairs and take in the moment.
Since everyone’s listening to an audio tour, it’s a tranquil experience.
The gift shop offers really quality items, including Christmas ornaments, books, hats, table linens, clocks, T-shirts and garden decor.
Restrooms are available in the gift shop.

It had been 10 years since we visited Taliesin West and we are so happy to come back. The insights tour is perfect to learn about the architecture and history of the home/school.

After visiting the one in Wisconsin we were super excited to see Scottsdale, but ended up super disappointed. It isn’t his western home, it is a big building with about 4 rooms and some outdoor space. We took the audio tour, it was over in an hour and could have been done sooner. Very little info about his life, the building materials, ongoing maintenance of the structure, not much to see. Very expensive and wouldn’t go back - go to Wisconsin and you won’t be disappointed

Make a reservation in advance and enjoy the exceptional audio, self-paced tour. You will learn so much about architecture and specifically about Frank Lloyd Wright.

What an interesting combination of Chihuly at Taliesin West when Frank Lloyd Wright was known to be a control freak about all the design elements of his spaces! The audio tour included facts about both artists & was very interesting. The small sculptures on display along with the beautiful plantings there were a bonus to the architectural details of the compound.

We've taken our out of town guests to all of the tours offered at Taliesin West. But the winter tour is our very favorite tour. It's $50 which includes a 2-hour tour with the outside all light up, the beautiful Dragon is afire, and the atmosphere is very dramatic. With that price you get a ticket for a glass of wine either before or after your tour, the wine is actually quite delicious. The views of Phoenix and Scottsdale from Taliesin are picture worthy especialy since you're there around sunset.
I'd suggest going a little early to visit the Gift shop which is filled with wonderful items and ladies if love jewelry you'll be in heaven. If you leave in the area the membership is a good deal and can be obtained immediately.

Truly enjoyable and good information shared in an hour. One suggestion would be to open with telling us what the meaning behind the name “Taliesin” is. It’s welsh for “shining brow” and a nod to Wright’s Welsh roots. And I had to look that up. Our tour guide Mandi was enthusiastic but oddly would never make eye contact when she was speaking to our group or when we asked a question. All in all we are glad we went.

The tour is excellent, nothing needs to be said about the house. It is simply brilliant. Booking in advance is needed, don't expect to just turn up on the day. There is a DIY audio tour available but I recommend the guided tour as I think it includes more and is excellent.

This was the second FLW property I have visited. The first, the only tour was led in person and no photos were allowed inside, which was disappointing, but we did learn a lot. Taliesin West operates very differently, some things better, some worse. First, the website isn't super straight forward on tours. You have to click around a bit to figure out that ALL of the guided tours are very limited and only at certain times of day, sometimes only once a day or a couple of times a week. Due to the main reason we were in Phoenix, our only option was the 4pm self-guided tour on a Friday. We arrived a little early and without the earbuds that the tickets reminded us to bring (in the wrong travel bag!), but they were nice enough to point us to a desk in the bookstore that gave us what we needed, including a listening device for my son, who doesn't have his own phone. After that, we were free to start the tour. Some of the stops have an awful lot of talking, which my son found boring but I found interesting. Some of the stops were quick and easy. Yes, for some people, it could have been much shorter, but for others, much longer. There are docents throughout that were unobtrusive, but available if you had questions. What I loved here is that you could sit in many of the areas, on actual FLW furniture, as opposed to everything being roped off with "do not touch" signs. You were really able to immerse yourself in the areas you did see. I do wish more areas were open to the self-guided tours, but I presume they would have to use those "do not touch" signs then. This group of buildings is very interesting, as it's more of a workplace, than living space, but they stress the word "fellowship" a lot - in that many of the students were family, so it was almost one big living compound. I could happily live in the Garden Room and the breezeway would have been great to just sit a chair in and enjoy the space for a while. Overall, I wish we'd had more access, both the the rooms and information, but it was well worth our visit. The price is high for getting no human guidance, but this place is also very well cared for, which surely isn't cheap. Finally, the gift shop was large and had a wide variety of souvenirs at a wide range of prices. Unfortunately, we only had about 15 minutes before we were reminded they were closing. We made a quick purchase and headed out. Be aware, as the tickets remind you, they do not have water fountains or any for purchase on site, so bring your own on a hot day!

Taliesin West is a stunning property. The views and the building sites are well explained on the self-guided tour which I highly recommend.

Another of Frank Lloyd Wrights masterpieces! Worth the visit for sure. We took the self guided tour, and they will supply headphones for your phone. It was well done and worth the visit. The gift shop was an adventure as well. Part of the tour is outside and the home sits in the desert so plan accordingly! You must order your tickets in advance for both guided and self guided tours. There is no RV parking here.

The views were amazing, but the tour itself was honestly boring. I also wished I could speed up the audio on the audio tour. Unless you are a die hard Frank Lloyd Wright aficionado, give this one a pass and spend $44 somewhere else.

What a wonderful peek into Frank Lloyd Wrights life and home! It was MUCH more interesting and enlightening than I thought it would be. I am amazed at his talent and foresight in architecture. The tour was excellent with much historical information as well as design details. Loved it!

My favorite thing we did during our week long visit to the Scottsdale area. You don’t have to be an architect to appreciate the genius, quirkiness, and controlling Frank Lloyd Wright. I wish I could get in a time machine and go back to the 1940s and see the place when it was really humming with all his disciples. If you only have time for one thing to do in the area, this is hands down my pick. We did the regular 90 minute day time tour but they all look great. My photos don’t do it justice. Plan ahead- you absolutely need tickets in advance. Enjoy!

I was amazing that I enjoyed it so much. The highlights audio tour was a wonderful way to learn and look at my own pace. It gives everyone as much time as they need to admire the beauty of Taliesin West.

We went without tickets late in the day and were turned away. The people did provide a lot of information and suggested we review the site online. The online tour was well worth the time. We did make reservations for 2 days forward but due to mobility issues, we decided my wife could not do the tour. We have done other Frank Lloyd Wright sites and think they are all great. This one is also outstanding and staffed by caring, informative people. Check out the website.

Our tour guide, Phil C, was very informative, knowledgeable, and entertaining. He deepened our appreciation of this unique and wonderful place!

You have to see this place to appreciate the beauty and design. Loved this tour! The guide told us some great history about the home.

This is a beautiful and interesting place and if you are a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright, then I think it’s a must see. It’s set in a beautiful desert area with Mountain views. My only criticism is that it could use a thorough dusting.

Walking around this place feels like stepping into another world, the design blends with desert nature in a beautiful way. The tour is interesting and you can feel the vision behind every detail, definitely worth the visit.

I love mid-century modern homes and furniture. I’m really into that retro vibe. My wife and I were just in Scottsdale for a little R&R and registered for the self-guided tour at $40/person. The audio tour was 1 hour, and I was a little underwhelmed compared to Falling Waters. The home/school has seen better days, and maybe there is a refresh in the future. Not sure. I had an okay time but I guess I expected it to be more grand.
It would have been nice if the gift shop offered more than a water fountain to drink. Why not sell soda, ice teas, juices? It gets hot as heck out there.

It's very expensive for a 90 minute tour of about five rooms. The Chihuly exhibits were truly incredible. If you're a Frank Lloyd Wright fan (I'm not) it may be more enjoyable.

Took an audio tour of this fabulous architectural creation and really enjoyed learning about the history of the property and experiencing the vibes in the various rooms and outdoor areas. I only wish I had paused longer in certain areas to take it all in.
The only negative was that it was a little difficult to get transportation when leaving - tried Uber and a taxi company and was finally able to get a ride via Lyft.

We went to the Sunset and Sips put on my the foundations for a evening out on our girls trip. They had a blown glass exhibit that was stunning. The evening was beautifully lit up with colors from the glass and white globes along all the walking paths. We were able to chat with Marta about the history of the Frank Loyd Wright home. Will definitely be going back to take the full tour. This is a magical place that deserves to maintain all its history for years to come.

Overpriced waste of time and money. Unfriendly staff and unwelcoming experience. There are better examples of Wright architecture elsewhere. The quality of the design and construction are poor. Upkeep is poor. Time is better spent elsewhere.

Place was truly magical. Would highly recommend for anyone with an interest in architecture its a must do

Best FLW house we've seen, and we're seen a number of the eastern ones. Fabulous, relevant today, great stories, a working graduate school, fab docent tour. Best for adults or interested older children. And the art!

I took a wonderful, guided Insights Tour of Taliesin West on Tuesday, February 25 as I was up from Tucson for a work conference. The structures and grounds were extremely interesting, and an it was an extra beautiful day with the wildflowers blooming all around. The $35 is slightly pricey but worth it. Guide Nicole was really the icing on the cake as she was engaging and knowledgeable, there wasn't a question she couldn't answer. I have a short attention span and she really kept things moving with her energetic, dynamic style.

The tour is really interesting in how FLW envisioned desert architecture. Guides were super informative. Ending with a coffee outside was a fitting end to the day!

We've been to Phoenix many times but some attractions are always on our list including: Taliesen West, the Heard Museum and Katcher caves. Weather was great and we thoroughly enjoyed our time.

we were completely blown away by our amazing experience.
All the staff were extremely helpful as well as friendly.
We wandered around at our own pace listening to the very clear and informative pre-recorded description’s of each of the areas.
The only slight downside of our visit was a younger school party being shown around. The teacher had quite a loud voice, sometimes it interfered with the audio we were trying to listen to.
I completely agree children should attend this amazing place, but maybe you might want to think about having a specific time for schools ?

We took an afternoon tour and found the tour guide to be very knowledgable and friendly. She was very passionate about the place and its mission.
As a fan of architecture, and FLW in particular, this was a definite bucket list item for me. The setting is beautiful--enhanced by the Chihuly exhibition--and the buildings are really interesting--more rustic than I expected.
Not sure if this can be done without a tour, but I'd certainly recommend having a guide.

My wife and I did the night time/date night tour and found it really interesting. Of course we had dinner beforehand then the tour finished with complimentary drinks for both of us. (Non- alcoholic available as well). The house is very interesting in itself and worth a visit if your into old historic places and want a brief look into the life of Frank Loyd Wright.

A fascinating look at the quirky world of Frank Lloyd Wright. If you don’t know much about Wright, you may want to Iearn a bit about him before your visit.
I took a guided tour… the audio tour may be different. The tour focused on Wright’s early years at Taliesin West, including design and construction of the complex, as well as the fellowship program (the fellows did much of the work in this period). Every element of the complex had significance. I could have done without the Dale Chihuly glass pieces on exhibit at the complex.
My guide certainly held my attention, but at least one person was consumed with their phone. Their loss, I guess.

Wonderful tour with a very informative guide.
Masks required inside rooms, Be prepared to walk a lot.

Really enjoyed the audio tour. It was well produced even if a little wordy at times. Takes just over an hour. We had a 2.and 3/4 year old toddler with us but she did great, we timed it outside of meal or nap times. Museum shop was fun as it had a lot of neat gifts even if a little pricey but quite unique so we spent a little in there.

I've always been intrigued with Frank Lloyd Wright and looked forward to our visit. Honestly $44 each is really steep for this tour. At 1/2 this price it might have been worth it. For this price, water also should be offered for free. It's a very warm environment - obviously. Disappointed.

The location is beautiful, the tour (Insights) was very interesting, and our tour guide was excellent. If you have any interest in architecture or are interested in learning more about the history of this property, take one of the tours. Our tour guide was excellent - very knowledgeable.
Tip: Parts of the tour are outside, and it can be uncomfortable on a hot day. Our guide did a good job of keeping us in the shade when possible; consider bringing a shade umbrella during hot weather.

Loved the setting for the home, away from the hustle and bustle, and in tune with nature. We were able to tour maybe four rooms at the most, which were beautiful. The early spring budding trees were spectacular. The Chihuly exhibit added greatly to the beauty that was already there.

This house and property is so cool. Your ticket includes an audio tour you can do from your phone or their devices and took just over an hour. The structure of the building, and the surrounding exterior areas and the way it is nestled into the natural surroundings is just so well done.
It really is a gorgeous home with amazing use of design to create open, inviting areas. I liked the information provided in the audio tour about some of the reasons for design choices and learning about its comparison to Taliesin in Wisconsin. FLW made some awesome buildings.
The gift store (where you get the audio tours setup) offered umbrellas to borrow to protect from the sun on your tour, and had a nice selection of items for sale.

Talliesin West was Frank Lloyd Wright’s third home that he built fort himself. The long lines and functionality lend themselves to the desert by inviting coolness and putting the view in front of the building. Our tour of the home was very interesting. The guide discussed why buildings were built the way that they were and emphasized the personalities that impacted the design.

I studied architecture in college many years ago and always was fascinated by Frank Lloyd Wright, his principles of design and his influence so when we planned this trip to the Phoenix area I knew I wanted to tour his winter home & work camp.
The self guided tour through the app is very easy to follow. I was not disappointed by the fun facts and information shared throughout the tour and appreciated sites being able to experience most of the spaces actually sitting and feeling a part of the space. Worth the money paid for this tour.
The gift shop has a lot of very unique and interesting gifts related to art and design and I found myself buying plenty of souvenirs to take home.

Get inside the head and home of this iconic American architect. Available by tour only, I think having a docent is the only way to go anyway. His design style is unique, and you can walk and live each room imagining life in his world. Our docent was well informed and shared lots of details about why his designs are so unique and at the same time comfortable and welcoming. Bring your camera....every view is photo worthy.

Fascinating tour into the origin of "organic architecture" and the genius of Frank Lloyd Wright. We did the "Insights tour" and found Wright's integrating the natural environment into his living space inspired.

The Frank Lloyd Wright architecture is, as always, unique and interesting. Our guide was one of the better tour guides I've experienced.

We had a great tour guide with plenty of insight into the past and present of Frank Lloyd Wright. Took the 1.5 hour tour and felt like it was just right.

We so enjoyed the tour of this massive FLW home.....Justine, you were amazing with all the info and details you provided to us during our lengthy tour. Thanks so much!
We were amazed that we were able to walk on the carpeting and sit in the chairs in the home.........when's the last time that you were permitted to do that in a private house?
A tour of Taliesin West is definitely a must-do when in the Scottsdale area. We HIGHLY recommend pre-booking it before your arrival.
Excellent signage to to get you to the property too!

A beautiful experience from start to finish. Even in the midday heat, I loved every bit of this tour. The audio guided tour was a great way to experience this work of art.

First time to visit a Frank Lloyd Wright home. Interesting story of location choice, materials used, design ideas and establishment of his architectural school. Guided tour lasts little over 1 hour.

We opted for the self-guided tour, as we had visited years before. Unfortunately, the audio via headphones and their own iPads, just didn’t work well. We had trouble with volume, moving to the next segment, and completely being unable to restart the commentaries. There was no one on the route through the tour to help, and many of us had the same problem. The simple solution would be seamless - not clunky- tech, and why not have small discreet signs indicating which number of the audio corresponded to where we were, as many museums with audio guides do? Our enjoyment was hampered by missing a great deal of the self tour. Taliesen and the Wright legacy deserve better. We also found the pairing of Wright’s philosophy with Dale Chihuly’s forced and detracted from fully understanding this great master’s designs. That said, a fabulous setting for a seminal architectural style.

Took an audio tour here. Was one hour long and quite informative although it would have been good to have learnt a little about the Architect's younger life. Think maybe a guided tour would have been better.

FLW's west headquarters offers an interesting contrast to his Wisconsin home. But both are the same. They are "of the place." This site offers a self guided tour with headphones. I was skeptical but turns out for no good reason. The taped tour offered plenty of information, and allowed us to proceed at our own pace A definite must for any FLW fan, building buff, or just someone who wants to enjoy some tip top architecture.

I took the 90 minute tour and it was a wonderful experience. The tour guide was informative and engaging while the setting and house were beautiful. I’ve done other tours of Frank Lloyd Wright sites and this was the perfect length and amount of information. I highly recommend it.

We were staying not too far away and a friend had told us not to miss the Frank Lloyd Wright museum that this is.
Wonderful experience. You must reserve online first and pay ahead of time and either print out or have bar codes ready at check in at the desk. ($40 per person)
Plenty of “guides” around for questions. they operate self guided tours using your own phone and headphones but do have ipods available if you do not have a smart phone.
Nice gift shop at the end of the tour. Good views of the surrounding landscape from the tour. There are also human guided tours available at select times (See website)
Worth the $40 each as it also pays the bills there.

My first FLW. I was so excited to go. The space, landscape, light and structures inside and out did not disappoint. I am super glad we made the reservation to see it.

Well worth it. We took the audio tour (one hour) and enjoyed it very much. Later we saw the beginning of the longer tour that has a guide and were surprised at how many people were on the longer tour. We were glad that we took the audio tour because it was not crowded. Note - with either tour, you will be walking / standing for nearly the entire time. The gift store is well-stocked with very interesting items. No food is sold on site but there is a faucet for refilling water bottles. There are also some tables & chairs near the entrance where you are allowed to eat food you have brought with you.

The guided audio pool tour really digs into the theories and reasoning behind the FLW style and thought processes.
Not only was he gifted at making buildings fit into the environment, he worked to bring that harmony inside the building as well.
Can't imagine what that place would have been like during the heyday.

Definitely worth a visit if you are a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright or architecture, did the audio tour, if you don't have your own headphones they provide you with an MP3 and simple earbuds. No need to go more than once but definitely worth 1 time visit. It is beautiful, creative.... Staff for the most part is happy and helpful.

On our first trip through the Phoenix area we didn't visit Taliesin but on our way back out west we had time to kill so we took the $39 plunge and booked a tour! Oh my gosh, I'm so glad we did!! What an amazing, stunningly gorgeous work of art Frank Lloyd Wright created. It was a studio, home and camp all in one and is a true example of his brilliance! We did the self guided tour and were able to wander at leisure which is our style. Each and every space was created with nature and with intention. From the entryways to the roofline, there is meaning in everything. Learning so much about something we knew nothing about or that it even existed was the best part! It's peaceful, historical and magical all at the same time. Super friendly folks around to answer all your questions and an amazing gift shop with very unique artwork, books and souvenirs.

Did an in person tour with a great guide. Very interesting tour that covers the how, why and when of Taleisin West's beginnings, as well as information about the buildings themselves, who visited, and life at Taleisin West. The tour covered the outdoor areas around the buildings as well as some of the interior spaces (his bedroom and bathroom, the garden room, his wife's office, work spaces, theatres, and a couple of others). We recently visited FLW's Gordon House in Silverton, Oregon, and this was a very different tour from that one, which went into a lot of detail about the reasons behind FLW's design choices. Tickets for the Taleisin West tour are quite pricey, IMO. Other attractions in the city, such as the MIM, are much better value. But I'm quite interested in the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, so was glad we went nonetheless.

Planned trip to Phoenix for after the holidays, and wanted to make sure family could tour Taliesin West. Site not updated with current hours, so called and left message w/ director of marketing to schedule tour on New Year’s Day. Never had decency to return call - but eventually did update site. Continued to include tour in our visit.
Got to Phoenix and was not able to confirm tour availability- again because nobody was available to answer the phone or return our calls. Frustrated enough decided to make trip out to property and make arrangements in person.
Several small tour groups in progress when we arrived, so found ticket booth and curtly told no way possible to purchase tour tickets. Was told we should visit the gift shop - which I felt was fairly insulting after what we went through trying to get basic responses on tour.
As members of the Chicago area FLW Foundation, we’ve never experienced such rude treatment with a “could care less” attitude. Taliesin West appears to be little about promoting the legacy of FLW and more about accommodation of the group operating the location.
How this has become a top location to visit in Phoenix is beyond us. Def not due to efforts in marketing, website maintenance or person manning ticket booth today. They have a prime attraction - and know it, treating public as an inconvenient intrusion.

Our delightful guide enthusiastically showed us around this unique home of Frank Lloyd Wright. His first home is in Pennsylvania. This was his home west of the Mississippi. Frank was the architect of the Guggenheim Museum in New York and was very ecologically aware. His buildings are typically low, sleek and organic.

Beautiful! The guide knew everything about Frank Lloyd Wright! Fun, educational tour. Since we were on a Roadscholar tour I think we got to peek into more areas. I loved hearing about his life.

Best audio tour *ever*!! Perfectly paced to take an hour. Split between inside and outside so you don't get overheated. The stuff you learn is incredible. It's a beautiful place. So glad we made a point to go there.
Note: definitely, definitely make a reservation.

What a beautiful property and tour. Our guide was great, very informative and fun. We went on the first tour before it got extremely hot. Took along hats and water since about half of the tour is outside. Totally enjoyed this tour.

We purchased tickets for Chihuly Nights. At $50 per person for the guided tour during the day I went for the $35 self guided tour at night. What we got was a beautiful night with well-lit dazzling Chihuly sculptures and a beautiful sunset. What we didn’t get was anything to do with Frank Lloyd Wright. I guess the audio tour that is supposed to be provided for the self guided tour has been discontinued. There were several tour guides standing around that you could ask questions of if you were willing to wait and if you knew what to ask. And we did not get to go inside any buildings. So for $35 we could have gone to the Desert Botanical Garden and seen beautiful Chihulys and learned something. Instead we got to walk around a house and pay $35 for the privilege.
Pass on the night tour and pay the extra money for the day guided tour I guess.

Certainly an interesting place to see. Good views. Did not enjoy our tour guide at all. She was very self absorbed. While Frank Lloyd Wright was a genius, she made him out to be without flaws-a perfect man. We did learn some new things but her style was very off-putting!

I had been to Taliesin West back in the mid '80s but had not allowed enough time and hadn't taken the audio tour, which may not have been an option then. Taliesin West is a must see, a pilgrimage if you will, for Wright aficionados. The audio tour was a big upgrade to the experience as you get a great deal of insight into Wright's design philosophy, including sound clips of Wright himself. The foundation has done an excellent job keeping up the property. We were rather amazed that you could actually sit on most of the furnishings. Of course, the gift shop is amazing and in impeccable taste .. as you would expect.

We had to wait for our tour but it was well worth the wait! Taliesin is beautiful inside and out and has breathtaking views!

Really expensive place. In a city full of working class people they could lower their prices a bit. Honestly it seems kind like hostile gatekeeping against the working poor. Will not be going back. I guess culture is rich person's hobby.

Our guide, Bruce was exceptional, we believe the other guides to be equivalent?
Dale Chihuly exhibits elevate the tour to a 5!
Research: website Taliesin West from the gallery photos is just okay, but nothing much?
With the guide's insightful "triangular" perspective about Wright's functional "sunpath" building orientation and Chihuly's sculptures mirroring Arizona surrounding mountains/trees+++....you'll leave "knowing" WHY you simply just "connect" walking around Taliesin West!
Democracy: Let the Apprentice Cabaret Rock...a visitation teaser!
Enjoy!

The audio tour provides an immersive experience into Frank Lloyd Wright’s winter home. The app is user friendly and provides precise audio instructions. The grounds are gorgeous and we loved learning about Taliesin West’s growth and changes over time. The gift shop is a must visit, showcasing art in addition to the usual gift store items. We would visit again!

First off, I'm a huge FLW lover and I visit his POI's all over the country. This is one of the best and I absolutely loved the AZ setting and mid century modern look. Keep in mind, this isn't a newly constructed building/attraction, this is someones life work. The grounds outside were my favorite; the neat statues, copper art, and flowing water that was incorporated into the house. We did the self-guided tour because we like to linger and don't want to feel rushed. If you're a fan of architecture, history even engineering, you will appreciate this gem.

Docent led tour is excellent. Great thumbnail sketch of Wright and his work. Grounds/buildings have been kept in wonderful condition. Tours go inside the buildings. Loved this as a fan of architecture, and of Wright. The Chihuly art complements the grounds and surroundings.

What a beautiful, amazing place! Despite the incursion of civilization and subdivisions in the area, one can still see the beauty that inspired Wright to make this workshop here. The site is well preserved and maintained, and the audio tour lets you move through the site at your own pace, stopping to enjoy all the details.

We heard there was a FLW house here so we decided to go since we love his houses and have two where we live. You need to have your own headphones with your phone or they give you a MP3 player to borrow. This is a new thing for me. I’d rather have a person give the tour. We weren’t too impressed with this house. Scenery was beautiful, but that’s all I can give it.

We highly recommend visiting. Hoping this clarifies the ticketing/admission. Yes, the price per person is quite high. It ALWAYS includes the self guided audio tour. Saying you don’t want the tour will not get you a lesser price. You simply don’t download the app, get the earbuds, and follow along. It looked like we were the only visitors NOT using the tour, making our experience practically silent, as everyone was listening, sitting quietly and reverently in each room. It was an unusual experience. We felt we could read in detail anything we wanted to after the fact, while absorbing the vibe of the rooms as we each wanted to. In addition, other reviewer comments about “Make a reservation” do hold true. We were lucky upon arrival to get into the next timed admission with very little wait. By all means go for this unique opportunity!

We did the sunset tour. It was amazing and so worth the visit. We learned about Wrights 4 pronged philosophy in architecture, and the guide let us see his property through his eyes. The sunset was spectacular. The tour was an hour long. It was very memorable. Do not miss visiting this site. The sculptures in the garden area at the entrance were beautiful and stirred the soul.

A beautifully and sensitively curated Frank Lloyd Wright residence in the desert of Scottsdale, AZ. A mobile phone app contains a self-guided tour of an amazing complex showing the masterful architecture of FLW molded into the landscape of the desert.

After taking out of town friends to the Az Biltmore Hotel, talking about its history, seeing the Mystery Room, looking at the photos of movie stars and how Phoenix looked back in the 1920s & 30s we were curious to know more about Wright, its consulting architect so we drove over to Taliesen.
Taliesen has a fascinating history and was built by a man who was both quirky and genius. It’s worth a visit. Our tour guide gave us a captivating view of why it was built and what it was like to live there when Wright was alive.
I've lived in Phoenix for many years and never took time to go through Taliesen. It's a step back in time. Most of the surrounding land has been preserved and protected so that you can imagine what it must have been like back in the day.

We decided to go to Taliesin West when we decided to come to Scottsdale. Both my husband and I had been to Wright’s house in Oak Park, so we decided to add to to our Wright houses visited. The house makes it easy. You make a reservation online and then you show up a few minutes before for your tour. We took the 90 minute tour. It was leisurely but packed with info. Waking is relatively minimal and you sit down part of the tour. It is relatively pricey so probably not for families. Lori was a great guide: knowledgeable and friendly.

My favorite part of the experience was being able to experience Scottsdale with my close friend Maya Elizabeth Lee and her family. We had never vacationed together and Scottsdale was the perfect place to get to know each other better whilst respecting each other's boundaries and personal space.

You don't necessarily have to be a big Frank Lloyd Wright fan to enjoy the exterior/interior 90 minute tour. It was extremely interesting...our guide was very engaging and I was amazed at how much we learned from him (wish I could remember his name!). It wasn't cheap: $54 per adult, but it was totally worth it. Just keep in mind that there is no food or drink available on the premises.

My husband and I did the guided tour and it was very interesting. Beautiful grounds and knowledgeable guide. Would definitely recommend!

I was very disappointed at the tour of Taliesin West.
1. The Chihuly exhibit was set up in the middle of the Wright designed property. This completely changed the appearance of the buildings and, knowing Wright, not something he would have approved.
2. Our tour guide never contextualized Wrights place in modern architecture. Yes, he was important, but he was part of a modern architecture movement. No discussion of his mentor Sullivan or other influential movements like Art Deco, Art Nouveau and Bauhaus.
3. The tour guide made a number of inaccurate statements. For example, she stated that Wright knew that there was water because of the presence of river rocks. Nonsense, those rocks could be millions of years old and have nothing to do with available water sources. She also stated, as a matter of fact, that Wright would have liked Chihuly. More nonsense, Wright was conceited and self centered. He would have scoffed at Chihuly’s glass work.
4. The tour guide misrepresented certain features of the building. For example, she noted that the skylights had channels to collect water. Wright did not plan it that way, all of his skylights leaked. There was black mold on the ceiling. He was a great designer and a horrible engineer.
5. Due to time spent on the Chihuly exhibit, we did not get to see the bedrooms or other buildings.
I have taken tours all over the world. This one was not a good tour.

Take the insiders tour. Well worth the couple hours and taking the 4pm with the views at dusk is incredible

THE SELF-GUIDED TOUR WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE. THE NARRATOR WAS CONCISE AND KEPT YOUR INTEREST.
THE WEATHER WAS PERFECT AND ALLOWED THE DESERT EXPERIENCE OF TALIESIN TO SHINE THROUGH. IT DIDN'T SEEMED RUSHED, NOR WAS IT CROWDED. THE VIEWS OF THE VALLEY ARE SPECTACULAR.
THE EMPLOYEES WERE THERE TO ASSIST, BUT NOT IN THE WAY.
DEFINITELY WEAR STURDY SHOES AND WATCH WHERE YOU STEP, THE STAIRS ARE NARROW AND EASY TO SLIP OFF OF IF STANDING SIDEWAYS TO GET AN ANGLE SHOT FROM YOUR PHONE OR CAMERA.

We went on a group tour during the Chihully exhibition. The guide was very good, really a model docent. The buildings are as they were when FLW lived there including his art collections and furniture he designed. There are students working in some buildings. It is a beautiful location that should not be missed. The gift shop is irresistible with some really nice things for decent prices.

Amazing and beautiful space, great example of Mr Wright’s legacy. I learned a lot about him and organic arquitecture.
We weren’t able to take a self tour since those are available until the evening so we took a guided tour for 90 minutes. It was very informative but extremely long and a good portion of it is outside and we were at 98 degrees today. A couple seniors looked overheated and it was just Where are you too long. After 90 minutes the guide said she wast done but we decided to leave.
I would have preferred a self tour, i hope it was available all day.

You have to arrange tour in advance to visit. Seems am visits have human guide while pm are audio guide. They pretend the two are equivalent but, of course, they are not.
Fortunately the Concierge at Four Seasons Resort was able to resolve our difficulty obtaining the human guide. Our guide, Deb, was outstanding: she really knew everything anyone in our group of 25+/- wanted to know and made everything about the place as interesting as possible.
While the actual building at Taliesin West isn't as nice (in my personal opinion) as the original Wisconsin Taliesin, it had it's own charm; by the time FLW moved there, he seemed to have what he wanted to achieve pretty nailed down.
On site there is also a nice shop with souvenirs and books.

If you like Frank Lloyd Wright homes you will love this camp and winter home of Frank Lloyd Write. The house looks like it comes out of nature. The compression and release design is very nicely done.

I have seen 2 other Frank Lloyd Wright's properties including Falling Water in Pennsylvania. They were both magnificent. This desert property was unique but desparately in need of a face lift. We understood from our Docent named Rachelle, that the Schoolof Architecture & Design was closing in 2021 and that Taliesin, Wright's home was also going to close in 2021; hopefully for that must needed face lift.
The setting among the desert hills of Scottsdale was eye popping. The stone for
most of the foundations and sidings of several buildings and the main house were harvested from the mountain just behind the home. We were told he had his students bring the stones down from the mountain to be used throughout the property.
The tour was detailed and very informative; we got to see almost all the buildings as well as the theatre. It was disappointing, though, to see how much work needed to be done to bring the entire property back to life.
Tickets need to be ordered on line for a specific time slot. The cost was about $30.00 for seniors.

Looking for an alternative to Spring Training the lovely Tally Ho Concierge suggested F. L. Wright’s Taliesin West. With modest enthusiasm we said, “Sure!” Boy are we glad we did! What a stunningly beautiful afternoon, combining Guide Nicolle with the quirky genius of Wright. They really have this tour down to a science—well informed (our group never asked a question she didn’t answer) well organized journey through the grounds (wish we could have wandered further from the house) and the house itself. Filled with just the right amount of information, delivered in enthusiastic narrative scale, Nicolle lead a well paced group from place to place, offering shade and seating at just the right times, picking and choosing tidbits and broad stokes in alternating manner. A very quick 90 minutes well worth the time and expense.

Very inspiring and interesting site! Each room was unique. The story behind the rooms and areas on the site were personalized with stories of Frank Lloyd Wright.
The site itself is set far from the road. Uber and Lyft rides can be difficult to come by. Fortunately for us, Sue, an employee at the site was sweet enough to give us a ride at the end of our tour, Closing time. We are extremely grateful to her.
Worth the visit!

If you’re a FLW fan, you’ll love visiting his winter home, Taliesin West. They’re doing a nice job during our current situation with social distancing and keeping the numbers to only so many people going through at a time. We did the self-guided audio tor and highly recommend it. You download their app to your phone and you’re off hearing about the property as you go. Bring your own headphones or they have some you can use. I would have given this visit a 5 rating, except that $40 seemed a bit steep for an hour tour that was self-guided.

This fascinating building was architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s winter home and school from 1937 until his death in 1959 at the age of 91. Today, it is the Headquarters of his namesake Foundation, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
We became huge fans of FLW’s brilliant and innovative architectural designs after seeing his “Falling Waters” in a movie, and have tried to visit his famous buildings if we happen to be in the area where they are located.
We took a Guided Tour of this facility after pre-booking it. The tour included the unique inside and outside of the home, plus the Theater, his School and Studio. We heard a lot of anecdotes about his life here, and it was inspiring to see how he has managed to incorporate the surrounding nature into his superb designs.
We loved the fact that we were able to immortalize our visit through our numerous photos (without a Flash, of course).
This is a “Must See” for those to appreciate ‘out of the ordinary’ architecture, and for those who are students of it.

Our visit to Taliesin West in Scottsdale was very rewarding. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and shared interesting information about Frank Lloyd Wright and Taliesin West. Highly recommend this tour

I'm not even sure I can put into words how this beautiful place made me feel. I'm a big fan of Frank Lloyd Wright and of Chihuly so it was only natural that I would visit here while in Phoenix. I wish I had the chance to get a tour of the inside of the house but there were no tours at night. Sunset was an absolutely stunning time to go because the lighting just enhanced the scenery. I could've stayed there forever. The sense of peace and calmness was absolutely amazing. I can't wait to return.

The only reason I'm giving this a '4' and not a '5' is that as of June of 2021, they were still mandating masks on-premises for all visitors. To hell with science, I guess.
As for the tour itself, everyone enjoyed it. I had to book it awhile in advance (there is a rolling window of when you can book, so I tracked that). We went as a Fathers' Day gift.
We arrived after 9:30 a.m. for our 10 a.m. timeslot. It was extremely hot that week; I think it was over 100 degrees F (and climbing) by the time the tour started. We browsed in the gift shop before and after the tour - they had some neat items there, but pricey.
The tour began promptly at 10 a.m. Our guide was a confessed Wright 'fan-girl' but I guess that's how you wind up giving tours here. I'm not complaining - if I weren't something of a fan myself, I wouldn't have booked the tour, after all. But I can be a fan and still recognize Wright's flaws. Anyway...
The tour was about 50/50 indoors vs. outdoors. They show you the grounds and explain the evolution of the site / buildings. In contrast to Fallingwater, you were allowed to take photos on this tour (there you had to book a special tour that allowed photos). There was only one place they didn't allow photography and that was due to some current architectural firm utilizing it - a couple of people ignored that and were taking photos anyway, but I didn't see any active monitors or paperwork that would expose any trade secrets, so it was probably harmless).
You get to see pretty much the whole complex - living quarters, conference rooms, the main drafting room, a theater, etc. I thought it was a well-structured tour.
If you are interested in Frank Lloyd Wright or architecture in general, this would be a very worthwhile stop.

While the experience was excellent, I rated it a 3 because I had to pay admission twice. When I arrived in Scottsdale Arizona I decided to tour the Frank Lloyd Wright home/business here and looked it up on the internet. I discovered that the facility is called Taliesin and bought your tickets.
When I arrived I was told the my tickets were for a Frank Lloyd Right home in another state -also called Tailsin. It turns out that the facility in Arizona is actually called Tailsin West.
I purchased another ticket and waited 2 hours for the next walk-in tour time. There were no refunds for the original ticket here and my email to the address on the first tickets for questions was returned as undeliverable.

We had Glen as our tour guide- he was fantastic. He was able to answer all our questions about the house and grounds as well as the man himself. I would ONLY do a guided tour. It will make the experience much more fulfilling. You will be able appreciate Frank Lloyd Wright and his life much better after the tour.

An hour and 15 min tour of America’s famous architect school and home. Well conducted with knowledgeable docents.
Plan in advance and get tix online as these tours are limited in size.

Easy check in process. Umbrellas available to keep the sun off. App worked great for the audio tour. The facility is gorgeous and clean. Of course the great architecture is not to be forgotten. Neat little birds and roadrunners hopping around.

What a great piece of American history and architecture. Such a special place, but was totally ruined by the tour guide. She obviously wanted you to be impressed with her when we should be focused on the building and structure. The tour guide made FLW sound more like a cult leader with disciples.
$40 for 6 people just horrible. If you get PAM, run, wait for the next tour. Its a shame. I wanted to see this historic place, but it was so ruined by this guide I am still distracted.

Unbelievably beautiful! Be sure to make reservations online as the guided tours seem to be booked ahead of time! Must see if you’re in the area. Tour guide, Jacob, was informative, funny and knowledgeable.

The audio tour of the house is okay. For the ticket price, I was disappointed that there were not more rooms on the tour such as the kitchen and a bedroom.

We took the 90-minute guided tour (the only way to see inside or even much of the outside) in a group of 26. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and gracious in moving the group along and keeping it interesting. The tour requires walking, some steps, and ducking through small entrances. Portions of the tour are inside buildings, but about half the time we were outside, so dress for the weather. Admission for our tour was $40 per person- expensive, but worth it for a unique experience.

Our guided tour of Taliesin West was worth a visit, especially with Chihuly's glass art on display. The location is set on a hill with a view of a stunning desert landscape. The buildings here are modern for the era they were built and are well-preserved. Frank Lloyd Wright used angles, triangles, and cement to create his designs. We were allowed to sit on his custom built furniture. Most pieces were small in design and uncomfortable. They were probably designed for very short and small people. There is a really nice gift shop but no snacks or drinks sold here.

Frank Lloyd Wright was a future thinking architect. He managed to incorporate nature in his design and building process.

Beautiful place to visit & amazing history with ingenuity all around. The tour was excellent with all kinds of facts & humor. If you are in the area we highly suggest taking this tour. We were impressed & decided to see his home Waterfalls in PA traveling through as well.

My daughters book a 3 pm tour and it was the perfect day!! The drive to the property was outstanding and gorgeous. Parking was free and very close by. The docent was very knowledgeable and entertaining. The design of the house is so extraordinary built with the landscape taken into account. To be in the presence of where the master taught his students was amazing. To see his bedroom, movie theater, living rooms and office all designed with geometric shapes, slopes, custom furniture and much more was a remarkable journey. If you are in the area please put this on your list!

Carolyn was our guide, and she was incredibly well informed. On-script, but she made all the facts seem spontaneous and fun. You could tell she really thought this place was awesome, and her enthusiasm was contagious. She also did a great job trying to keep the youngsters in our group (who weren't as interested in an architecture history tour...) engaged. She covered a lot of material, as the Chululy exhibit was covered as well. If you are a FLW fan (like us) this is not to be missed! A one-of-a-kind place.
The gift shop has lots of unique treasures.

I loved the tour and my guide was excellent. The only disappointment was that the tour did not include entering certain spaces due to time constraints because of touring the Chihuly exhibit. However, it was worth it. This is not one of my favorite FLW homes, but enjoyable none the less.

Don't miss seeing Taliesin West while you're in Scottsdale. We took the 90 minute tour and it was just right. Our tour guide was excellent and helped us understand the importance of Frank Lloyd Wright's timeless designs. You are able to take photos everywhere.

If you are in the area you Must go to Taliesin. You can do a self guided audio tour and/or the Shelters tour. We did both. Truly an amazing glimpse into the genius of Frank Lloyd Wright!

Such a cool experience, with stunning views of the natural beauty in Scottsdale! Our tour guide, Glenn, was fantastic - really engaging with us, and asking us questions like "how does this make you feel?" and "how do you think they achieved this?" as we viewed each room of the house. We could tell he was super passionate about the subject matter, and wanted to share that with us without just monologuing at us. Thanks Glenn for a wonderful tour!

Excellent tour of a beautiful architectural gem in a stunning setting. (If you're not into architecture, you may find the tour too detailed.)

toured this school as a child in the 70's, and again just recently. You cant see the property and hear the tour without respecting what Mr. Wright was trying to do hear, so sad the school is closing, so glad it will remain at least as a museum

Be sure to get reservations on-line. As you drive up to Taliesin West you can look out over the 500+ acres and imagine yourself in the 1940s. The tours are well run, small groups, able to hear and understand the guides, not having to wait from room to room. You are able to sit on the furniture and listen as the guides tell you about the life of Mr. Wright and his wife. It is also very interesting to see the way Mr. Wright used left over wood and other scraps for decor. The grounds are beautifully kept and I loved walking from room to room, not through hallways, but through coves and oddly shaped doors. It is a very interesting tour, I highly recommend it.

I visited with my husband and father and left the tweens at home (that was the right call). Our tour guide gave us great information about Frank and the history of the home. I get apprehensive about tours some times, but our guide was informative without being scripted and the pace of the tour was perfect. Highly recommend to anyone in the area interested in architecture and history.

I am a FLW fan and have been to other sites and I this left me overwhelmingly lacking. I did the self-tour and can't believe shop doesn't carry cheap earbuds (left mine at camp) so I had to hold the phone to my ear. The gal at the shop acted as if I would DARE to think they carry such a cheap item! But it is a great shop! I agree with another review that stated it would be helpful if they noted stops...it was a little hard to follow.
I understand the structure will match the desert, but not a fan of all the concrete. Only get to see four rooms (FLW office; the Garden Room - a meeting room; the drafting room - nothing spectacular there; and the cabaret - another meeting room).
Also agree with ohters to bring a hat and water!
I've been to the Biltmore in Phoenix and found it much more magical than Taliesin. And it's free!

We learned more about Frank Lloyd Wright than we ever expected to know. The audio tour works on your cell phone so you can use your own earbuds if desired. It walks you through at your own pace, examining rooms, overlooks, etc. Not all areas are open to the public, but there's enough to see to keep one interested. How often does one get to sit a FLW's drafting table? Gift shop has some unique items.

We took the 1 1/2 hour Insights Tour and found it worthwhile.
As with any tour, much of your enjoyment is dependent upon your guide. Our tour guide, Mandi, was excellent. I've read other reviews that didn't have very good experiences because of their guide. Mandi's enthusiasm came through and she was very good at explaining the architecture with antidotes about Frank Lloyd Wright. We never felt rushed. If you're going on a tour and have some flexibility, I'd recommend you ask for when Mandi is leading.
If we were ever to come back to Phoenix I would probably take one of the other tours such as the one that's done at night.

1 star for Frank Lloyd Wright to honor his genius, -4 stars for the rude staff and horrible experience. We traveled 2700 miles and this was the last stop on our trip and one we were really looking forward to.
We researched the website and had one in our party who has been before and walked through with the audio self guided tour.
Understandably the site is open for 3 hours and we checked the website that morning saw no advisories of any kind and arrived an hour before closing. Went to the ticket booth and were told that they were only allowing people inside on the guided tours and the last one was 10:40, which we missed by 20 minutes. When mentioned that we did not see that anywhere online, we were told without a shred of empathy, we could go to the gift shop, come back tomorrow, or look at the public areas by the entrance.
So we walked toward the site and saw other people enjoying the inside and looked from the outside. Walking toward the front (a one minute walk from the entrance) to at least take a picture we were yelled at by someone on the second floor who said that it was off limits and there were rattlesnakes around. We said ok and started back toward the car when a second more aggressive person burst out of the house and yelled at us to leave.
So here’s the thing. If you are closed, close the ticket booth and put up a sign. If you are closed due to heat (it was 98), put up a sign and an advisory on your website, pretty simple tech to add a ticker at the top. If you ONLY allow tours put that online. If you have people come and have to turn them away an hour before you close, show a shred of empathy, and no I did not ‘ask to speak to the manager’. If you have rattlesnakes put up a sign telling people not to go there. It is not a huge area. Take a cue from the park service at Montezuma castle.
Horribly disappointed. Also the grounds around and approaching the site are shabby. Partner with the botanical gardens and do something to improve them the cacti look like they are on their last breath and many are dead.
Bottom line if someone shows up an hour before closing they should be able to get in and do the audio tour it seems like they care much more for selling merch than their patrons. Customer service is a big zero.

The employees are so thrilled to be able to exert some authority over people, that they cannot wait to jump you for not having a mask on. This started as we approached from the parking lot. We were not within 10 feet of the first employee before she said “you need to put in your mask!” No “welcome”. No “Hi there. So happy you came”. Nope. Just a reprimand. And again, during the tour, while we were alone with our family, an employee told me to “put your mask over your nose!” We were at least 12 feet away from her and we were outside. The rudeness completely ruined the tour. I would not advise anyone to spend their money here

We had a wonderful tour, with lots of history, stories and plenty of details. We delayed making reservations as we still needed to make plans for other days of our trip, so ended up on the standard 90-minute Insights tour. It was just what we were looking for to walk through the buildings and learn how they were built and the amazing people who came to the desert to craft this masterpiece.

Very organize and practice safety practices during the pandemic. Very interesting site of Frank Lloyd past residence.

This is a great site to visit if you enjoy architecture and in particular Frank Lloyd Wright. We did the self guided tour which came with audio. It provided great description and background of the site. You will learn about the history of the site and the architecture school led by Wright. Visitors should make reservations in advance

So glad we went to this! Three of us did the audio tour. It was a nice day in Scottsdale, not too hot. Tour was great and easy to follow along. They had headphones and devices in case you didnt have them. Tour guides around to point you in the right direction. Loved the giftshop, spent a fortune there. Hopefully we can do Falling water in Pennsylvania one day soon.

Our visit to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Western Home and Workplace was a great part of our trip to the Scottsdale area. Learning the History of the property was very cool. And it was super easy on the self guided audio tour, because they utilize an app that you can download on to your Smartphone and follow along the tour using your own earbuds. Definitely a tour one should make.

We booked a 10 AM tour of this house that was built and lived in by Frank Lloyd Wright. The tours are self-guided and require the download of their app and headphones. About half of the tour is outside and half inside a number of the rooms so plan to bring some water and maybe a hat (they do have some umbrellas that can be used for shade). The audio descriptions were very informative and it took about exactly an hour to complete the tour.

I've been to Falling Water and found this location just as charming, but in different ways. Sitting in the various rooms was calming to my sensitive soul. Even with more than 20 others present, it was an oasis of peace for me.
Highly recommend allowing yourself the pleasure of being in an environmentally amazing place.

Great self guided tour. Timed entry and you are provided with a link to set up your phone for the audio tour. Enough information to give you a good overview.

We just completed out 90 minute tour of Taliesin West and were not impressed with the condition of the property. At $40 per person, we were surprised to see faded and peeling paint, chipped and patched concrete and furnishings that were frayed, faded, and dirty. The canvas “roof” had water stains. The property/campus seems to be in a state of neglect. Where is the money going??? Researching the property, we discovered the Foundation is abruptly closing the School of Architecture in a few months, blind-siding the current graduate students. Something smells fishy here...

Must see historic cultural site if you’re in Phoenix. Even the audio tour is fantastic. Even if you’re not a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright, this amazing winter camp for his architectural practice has attracted artists, designers, architects and luminaries since Wright purchased it in the 39’s. Go find out why!

Taliesin West was Frank Lloyd Wright’s winter home and a place for students to learn the art of Frank Lloyd Wright in an immersive way as they lived there as well. We took the audio tour and it was fantastic! The narrator explained so much about the spaces and the ideology behind the work. I had not been to any of his buildings before and I found it fascinating .

We loved the tour of Taliesin West. It was very interesting to learn about Frank Lloyd Wright's history and tour the beautiful complex.

What an incredible place. The architecture is just on a level that only Frank Lloyd Wright could do. A must visit when in Phenix....Ayelet the host is amazing!

Having grown up with a dad who was a huge FLW fan and having visited Falling Water as a teen, I was super excited to see this house. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. The audio tour was lackluster and repetitive, in addition to showing only limited areas of the home. The devices were finicky and required constant adjusting to play the appropriate tracks at the appropriate times. To add insult to injury, the staff member who gave us the devices gave us an attitude when we told her we would need to borrow devices and headphones as we didn't have headphone on us. Apparently they expect you to pay for the tour and supply your own equipment. If you don't have time to take the guided tour, don't waste your money on an audio tour. The house and grounds are beautiful and worth seeing, but the experience was definitely ruined by our issues with the audio tour.

We took the two hour “Details Tour”. Our tour guide was George, a man with over 50 years of pure passion for all things Frank Lloyd Wright. George provided history and insight, bringing the property to LIFE. His enthusiasm was contagious. The tour was easily the highlight of our Scottsdale trip.

Taliesin West was on my bucket list to see while we were in Phoenix, and it was incredible! I am fascinated by the unique architecture and the audio tour was very good at explaining Wright's inspirations for his buildings. We had seen Fallingwater a few years ago in Pennsylvania, and while Wright's "compression and expansion" theory is evident in both houses, Taliesin West in the desert is completely different from Fallingwater, which is located in the lush green hills of Western Pennsylvania. This home is a must see while in the Phoenix area!

Nice place to visit and learn about one great architects . We new some facts but the tour guide gave us in depth information about Frank Lloyd the human architect. We saw first hand his designs and his thinking behind his designs. If you enjoy history and architecture you must visit this place.

We spent an informative morning at Taliesin West on an audio self-guided tour. Book ahead if you want a live group tour! This is a World Heritage Site so we did not want to miss it on our first trip to the area. Very informative insight to the work of Franklin Lloyd Wright. We thought it was worth the time and $$. Site is clean and well maintained.

Call in advance to book a tour. We went in Nov. on a weekday, and every tour through the day was booked up. Felt lucky to get a spot. We did a 90 min. tour. Our tour guide, George, was great. He was informative, had a great attitude and great presentation. He brought FLW to life through his descriptions and stories. We learned that Frank Lloyd Wright had an amazing career and life, a very gifted and talented architect, with interesting viewpoints, attitudes and interests. And of course getting to walk and around and observe Taliesin West was just great.

Our tour guide for this Frank Lloyd Wright site was excellent and very knowledgeable about FLW and the history of these buildings. Her enthusiasm was infectious. Much of the tour was outdoors but the winter weather was pleasant and it was an easy walk. We timed our tour to see the sunset just as the tour ended. There was some good bird watching there also.

Visit the site of Frank Lloyd Wright’os home. There is an interesting gift shop which contains a tour agent. Tours are$35 per person which we found expensive. Without the tour one cannot enter the house. You can get some views of the house the surrounding area but generally unsatisfying. Unless you plan on taking the tour it is not worth a visit.

Went with a friend while on a girls weekend. This was interesting, but the tour is expensive and the guide was just ok. Frank Lloyd Wright has a brilliant history and the guide brought none of that to light. I might have well been listening to a Wikipedia explanation of his life.

If you have ever heard of or seen any of Frank Lloyd Wrights homes you have to make this trek to the east side of Scottsdale. Not only is the desert setting spectacular, but the home tour is a delight.
I can't remember the exact cost (I believe $25), but it is worth it and while you must be accompanied on a tour with a volunteer, it is invaluable. We were lucky enough to have a theatre student as our guide who was not only highly knowledgeable, but extremely entertaining.
The home and property are majestic, especially for its time and it was fascinating to hear all about the details and thinking that went into the creation of this home. Take you time and enjoy this architectural wonder.

You have to be a real architect fan to pay for this museum (?). Yes, he was genius, but more needs to be done. Listening to the docent telling you how great he was became boring. There is no display of his famous works.

I love visiting Frank Lloyd Wright houses and have seen many however this one prices at $44.00 a person for only an hour tour was egregious. I loved the house however you couldn't walk the grounds everything was roped off so once the audio tour was over that was it. There was property that we could have seen behind the house and it was off limits.

Clever use of the land & marvelous tour that you can really take at your own pace. It was stunning standing in the front of the house with views of the yard, house & mountains. I took my family that lived in AZ and they were thoroughly impressed. I went to the OG Taliesin 9 months prior and thought that one was a cooler property, but I much preferred the self guided tour of this property. That window vase was pretty dope.

3 couples thoroughly enjoyed a recent tour of Taliesin West. Our guide was interesting & helped us understand what we were seeing, & about Frank Lloyd Wright,- his work, & his family. Landscape “added glass pieces” by Dale Chihuly put a glow of extra color to the desert geography. Make a reservation for early morning if possible, because it is HOT in the PM ! Small gift shop on property.

Wonderful place; very interesting!!! We took the audio tour and learned a great deal about Frank Lloyd Wright, his architecture design type, and saw a very interesting home with gorgeous landscape!!!

We could not resist learning more about the life and work of Frank Lloyd Wright. Not an attraction I see myself coming back to often, but a piece of local and American history that I'm glad to have learned more about. We took the audio tour, using our own phones and headphones, which covers slightly less of the facility that the guided tour, and is a little cheaper. For the novice, it seemed like the right balance.
There were lots of volunteers everywhere we went, so we didn't feel in the least shortchanged, as anytime we had a question, it was easily answered.
I'm very happy the FLW Foundation has maintained this property.

If you love architecture, and want to learn more about Frank Lloyd Wright, make sure to book a tour of Taliesen West. We had a great guide (Ayelit) and learned many new things about this world-renowned place.

Thoroughly enjoyed our tour. We've been to several properties and always learn something new about FLW and his life. We should have booked earlier in the day, it's starting to get hot in Arizona, but it wasn't too bad. Highly recommend!

We booked the one hour tour (and thanks to our tour guide Molly, it went for little longer since we were all so interested). Even if you are not familiar with Frank Lloyd Wright, this tour would be fascinating, but if you have even a little knoweldge, it is riveting!

My expectations were high, the house of such a famous architect, but beautiful no, interesting yes. Why FLW built it as he did, which room had light coming in at what time, why use of canvas and concrete, these were questions which have to be answerered. Our guide Bruce was full of knowledge and approachable for all kind of questions and further info. You can book a guided tour and also an audio tour. We prefered the guided.

I was so happy to be able to visit Taliesin West- at long last! All I can say is that all of Wright's brilliance, creativity, and eccentricity, the last supplied by our knowledgeable docent, is evident during the tour. I've been to many of his buildings, but Taliesin west was really his first, where he was able establish his very unique style. I hope you enjoy the tour as much as I did.

I am a Frank Lloyd Wright fan, but that is not a requirement to appreciate Taliesin West, in my opinion. Purchase your tickets online in advance. We choose the self guided tour and downloaded an app on our smartphones. Be sure to bring your own earbuds for convenience and quality. Have bottled water with you, it was allowed. There are some shaded areas to escape the direct sun. We chose to listen to the narration mostly in the inside spaces which were a little cooler but even the air conditioned area are not cold so be prepared. So interesting to experience Chihuly glass incorporated throughout. I thought it added to the experience in a colorful and meaningful way. I recommend this experience.

I had already visited Taliesin East as a very FL Wright anus and West, although smaller, did not disappoint me either.
We went around with the audio guide as the only one available and, despite the heat, it was pleasant. The descriptions are interesting and not too long-winded.
The place itself is really nice. Recommended if you love architecture.

We did the audio-guided tour. It was an hour long, which was the perfect length. The grounds are beautiful, and we learned a lot. Staff are very nice and helpful.

Taliesin West was a great place for me to host a work event for about 23 people including myself. The staff was wonderful to work with and made our dinner very memorable. It was just us on the property and the volunteers were very nonweldable of the property and engaging. This is a must stop if you are interested in architectural.

My wife and I took the early morning audio tour and we both enjoyed it so much! It was amazing to tour the place and to learn more about Frank Lloyd Wright.

Many thanks to Caroline for leading our Wright-Chihuly tour on Jan 9th. I've been on many FLW tours and hers was exceptional. She showed a deep understanding of the lives and works of both Wright and Chihuly and was able to convey this to the group with humor and energy. As a fellow docent, I know that this is not easy to do. Thanks, Roger from Buffalo

Our tour guide was enthusiastic about sharing her knowledge of Frank Lloyd Wright and the apprentices that worked at Taliesin West. Although the day was extremely hot, we still enjoyed experiencing the home, studio, and beautiful grounds. If touring in summer, bring plenty of water and a sunhat or umbrella to manage the heat.

Highly recommend this tour, we thought it was fantastic. Self guided tour that lasts about 60 minutes, but you can pause the audio and wander as long as you wish. We went in winter so outside temps were not an issue. The condition of the house and gardens are very good considering age and extreme conditions. This was a great two hours.

Whenever I am in a location with a house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, I am eager to visit. Taliesin West did not disappoint. We had a tour guide who was friendly and knowledgeable. We each learned interesting tidbits about the property, the environs, and the architect. This property fits so wonderfully into the Sonoran landscape, it really is a must see.

My husband and I first did the audio tour, then signed up for the behind the scenes tour the next day. Admittedly, I was a significant Frank Lloyd Wright fan coming in to the experience...but this is by far my favorite one of his works. The level of detail...each view framed beautifully, each shadow precisely designed...as one of the docents said, this is a work that Wright and the Fellowship created for themselves. As they were the client, one might consider this the highest order of their work. The behind the scenes tour covers the broader campus extensively and gives a better sense of what life as part of the fellowship was like. Highly recommend.

Worth visiting, we enjoyed the tour and history from the guide. We have visited Taliensin in Spring Green, WI and found this one to be much more primitive with only basic levels of comfort. We were surprised to see canvas roofs and to hear that originally it didn't have glass windows. Beautiful surroundings and a nice drive to get there.

The woman who gave the recorded guided tour was extremely knowledgeable and guided us at a perfect pace to take in all the sights and to explain the history and significance of Wrights architecture

Everything was so beautiful I was really blown away. The staff was tip notch. I will be going back soon.

As a former architecture student, it is always wonderful to visit a masterpiece done by a master like Frank Lloyd Wright. The tour is great but I truly believe it was because of our guide. The other tour we walked by did not have as rambunctious of a host. This place is worth a visit!

The design and architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright is enjoyable to take in and Taliesin West was no different. I thought the tour was well done and enjoyed the narration of the self guided tour. The snippets of Frank Lloyd Wright talking were interesting. It did a good job of brining out, explaining his design concepts while experiencing them first hand. In a few areas the ability to sit in his designed furniture while taking in audio information on the room and furniture as a cool experience. It was interesting learning about Wright's work that was completed in AZ.
A couple other thoughts:
* I am on the fence on a self guided auto tour with headphones vs. a live guided tour. To some extent it was nice as gave ability to hear everything and go back if didn't hear something easily. It allowed one to be kind of immersed in the tour. On the other hand it also made it kind of impersonal. Even if in a group of people everyone has headphones on and any shared experience is a bit diminished. There were a few guides along the tour for questions, but..
* The tour fee is a bit high at approx. $40, especially when taking into account very little interaction with any guides or personal touches of a tour.
* Ability to see additional areas within the property with the core tour would have been nice.
I am glad I took the tour and added another Frank Lloyd Wright tructure to my list of toured buildings. If you are not familiar with Frank Lloyd Wright this will give you a good overview of some of his concepts and all the structures he has played a part in.

Taliesin West is an easy going excursion in the desert as compared to the hikes up mountains or peaks in/near the Scottsdale area. The tour provides one a good history of Frank Lloyd Wright, his and his apprentices' lives and architecture. It may be boring for kids, but it is only 90 minutes.

My husband and I had visited Taliesin before and took the complete tour. So we understood that this was only the lights of the Chihuly exhibit at night. We got there just before dusk so we were able to experience the difference between day and night. Overall if you like art this is definitely the place to check out.
Once it was dark

Good tour. We were the last group (4pm) so our guide was a bit more relaxed and let us lag behind a bit to take pictures, which I really appreciated. It's always hard to get good pictures when there's people moving all around. I'm not really into architecture and don't know much about FLW but the information was simple and easy to understand. A bit bummed we can't see into more of the rooms. They kept the gift shop open late just so our group could get a chance to get some souvenirs :) nice gift shop too, much more than what's available on the website. Overall good tour but $40 per ticket is steep (we got student $30 but still steep for a 1 hr tour), glad we could do the guided tour since the self-guided tour isn't any cheaper.

Truly a "must do" when in Phoenix. We were visiting friends and knew nobody who had been here, and not sure why. The architecture is truly fascinating- and the views of the desert are stunning. The tour really helps to capture how to appreciate the uniqueness and beauty of the area. We made the mistake of not buying ahead of time. We just went into Scottsdale and came back - but smarter to online before you go. But do go- you won't regret it

Admission was exactly the same as Desert Botanic Garden’s Luminary walk. Garden was prettier, had ambiance, music, performers, and overall more linger factor. Taliesin is interesting but for the admission for (just an hour) I would think it would be in better condition. Audio tour was very good, nice details. Definitely lots of sun, wear your sunglasses, bring a hat. Pretty crowded. If you are a Frank Lloyd Wright fan it’s interesting, but a little time worn.

Audio part of the self directed audio tour did not work for me. Audio kept stopping and repeating from start. Spoke with 2 technicians on the tour & could not get problem resolved. Was told they were having tech issues on that day (3/31/2022). On returning earbuds told of this issue. Apologetic
clerk said at least I was able to appreciate the area visually.
Somehow his apologies did not compensate for the fee paid and missed audio part of the tour.

So we recently visited Taliesin West and it was a good experience. My friend is in a wheelchair but we were able to see the whole estate. I loved the audio tour

Another amazing Frank Lloyd Wright design. The guided tour was excellent. A must see if you're in the Phoenix area.

This place was great. Open spaces, unique approaches with small entryways and larger rooms. Lots of artwork as well.
I think most people would enjoy a stroll and guided tour or audio tour (we did audio). Also think kids would enjoy
Thoroughly enjoyed

We toured Taliesin West and were amazed at the architectural genius of Frank Lloyd Wright. The tour was comprehensive and fun. Our tour guide was named Jim and he was informative with some humor thrown in! We joined the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation as members and intend to visit other homes in the United States which Frank Lloyd Wright designed. We live near Springfield, Ohio and will visit a house FLW designed there. We get to Chicago on occasion and will visit his three properties there.

I was there for a Valentines Day special event which included a tour, wine tasting, chocolate tasting and live guitar and piano music. The setting was perfect and the sunset views are amazing from this beautiful home

Tours are very well done. Sad to say, the architecture school will be closing soon (too expensive, they said) but the grounds & tours will still go on. Sorry to see the students go.

My husband and I consider ourselves FLLW enthusiasts. We have been to his Oak Park home and studio and Taliesin. We’ve stayed in his hotels, been to many public buildings and toured countless homes all over the country. This was somewhat of a pilgrimage for us. Most certainly a bucket list trip. The staff were all very gracious and welcoming before and after our tour. And of course the allure of FLLW did not disappoint. We opted for the behind the scenes tour as we are so familiar with most of his living spaces and wanted to see things which were less recognizable. The tour included many things that we were allowed to enjoy away from the general tours. However, our guide was off several times on dates and had somewhat of an elitist attitude toward the tourists. He often asked questions as you might do to a fifth grade class instead of a a group of engaged adults. I found it off putting. His misinformation made me less inclined to believe him on other things and I felt as though he had a disdain towards Olgivanna which seemed unnecessary.
It was also surprising to us to hear about so much of the space being occupied by the foundation staff. It certainly makes sense that the space would be utilized by staff but the foundation should really consider the size of the footprint they’re using in relation to the total property.
This is certainly a trek we’re glad we made but I think we were less enthusiastic about it than we have been about any other FLLW property we’ve viewed.

This is an excellent tour that is full of detail about Frank Lloyd Wrights life at Taliesen West. Tour guide was fabulous

A friend suggested we take the tour, and I really enjoyed the experience. If you know all about Frank Lloyd Wright, or even if you know very little (like me), you’ll enjoy the tour.

Took the insights tour led by Jim. Knowledgeable guide shared info on life with and studying Frank Lloyd Wright. Interesting!

A wonderful experience.
If you are remotely interested in Frank Lloyd Wright, then take the tour. You see and learn so much more. Mountains in the backdrop and even coyotes in the distance.

Frank Lloyd Wright’s buildings are sculptures spread all over the world. If you enjoy what he stands for, you need to take the effort to travel. This is my fifth in five states. Like Falling Waters, this placement into the landscape was critical. Wright has the ability to pull you into the landscape. This house has been on my list for twenty years and am so happy to have finally seen it with my wife, a high school teacher.

Not worth it! There’s no way to see anything (besides the gift shop which is v nice btw) unless you buy a tour for about $50 per person! And half the tours are recorded audio you have to bring your own headphones and own phone for. Crumbling and decrepit, boring tribute that feels more like a Wikipedia page on Wright than the stories that bring him and Taliesin West alive. Waste of money.

Stunning spade and tour. The docents are extremely knowledgeable which was the primary reason this tour is an exceptional experience. The Chihuly exhibit currently there is also a plus. A “must see” if in the Phoenix area.

This is truly and amazing place. Its beautiful and worth the visit. Its recommended that you plan your visit because tickets will sell out. The auto tour is good and they the place is accommodating if you do not have headphones. If you love Frank Lloyd Wright. go there.

What an amazing place. We did the self guided tour and really enjoyed learning about the home and Wright's design philosophy. A couple hints for your visit (1) download the Taliesin West App before you go and (2) take your earphones with you. (They have earphones if you don't bring yours). The tour only took about an hour but you can wander about as long as you would like.

Skip the self guided tour…..you will see inside four rooms……perhaps the guided tour is better.
The recording you listen to is nonsense….as fun as waterboarding. Describes four themes of Wrights design, Space, Site ……..and Democracy. Like to meet the woke staff that came up with democracy, what nonsense.
Should have stopped and got a refund when I heard this……didn’t get better.
Instead of this go on line and look at the pictures.
.

A very nice audio tour of this wonderful site. Very interesting history. Not much shade and a lot of the tour is outside, so something to plan for.

Incredible architecture and well crafted tour. A great excuse to get to see the desert countryside. The audio tour is informative without being boring. Just a stunning house, grounds & views. Make reservations ahead of time (it’s a good thing they limit the number of people at a time, so it doesn’t feel crowded or claustrophobic).

Not really a review as much as a heads up. You have to book in advance to take the tour. If you don’t book, you’ll be allowed to look in the shop and then be snipped at by the overly self important gal at the front if you dare to ask if you can view the outside of the home.

There really are no more superlatives to describe this place. FLW’s thoughtful combination of form, function, and art must be experienced. The property is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and very well maintained. Great gift shop. It would have been better to not have the subdivision houses nearby to destroy the view, but that’s modern life.

An incredible visit for any FLW aficionados! We thoroughly enjoyed our tour and all the details and historical perspectives provided by our tour guide Martha. Would love to visit again and highly recommend it if you’re in the area and appreciate architecture.

Another gem of Frank Loyd Wright's. His use of organic building materials from the site of construction is one his trademarks. The tour guide-Jim-was great. He had many insightful comments and facts. The house was amazing. Have toured several of FLW's houses and each is unique and amazing. Must see.

I was a bit dissapointed in the tour. Perhaps I'm not as big of a Frank Lloyd Wright fan but for somewhere not too keen on architechture or FLW history I was probably the wrong candidate to do this tour. I guess after hearing about this for yrs I thoght that the home would be more spectacular than it was. No problem with the tour or facilities but to me unless your really into the history of FLW or really into mid century modern its an attraction you can pass on

We cannot write a fair review since we tried to go 3 times & was unable. I studied this in college for Interior Design & Architecture. 1st it was closed for a corporate event, then 2nd time it was closed for holiday then Scottsdale got rain for a few hours the night before & that morning but the sun came out at 10:00. You have to buy tickets online & luckily we hadn’t bought them the day before because they were closed for inclement weather. The road, Frank Lloyd Wright was dry as we drove by heading to Glendale. Price seems high for a walking tour that you provide your own headphones & no senior discount. Maybe we’ll get to see it someday?

The self-guided audio guide was very good. We enjoyed walking through all of the various rooms and we learned so much about FLW throughout the visit. Go early in the summer, as you are outside a lot of the time, in the dessert sun. The price for just an audio guide at $40 was a bit steep, but I tried to look at it as entertainment and a contribution to help maintain this wonderful piece of property. If you are a FLW fan, or just want to learn more about him, don’t miss it.

A must for any FLW fan. Magnificent designs as always and great to see how it was used as a work and entertainment space. I was a bit disappointed that you didn't get to see the entire property, but parts are actually being used. Was nice that you got to sit in actual Wright chairs in places.
They are currently having a Chihuly glass art exhibit which was nice to see. However, I think they should have placed some of the sculptures differently. The ones that were off to themselves were appropriate, but I feel the ones directly in front of the house in the reflecting pool detracted from Wright's design. So, mixed feelings about the placement of the sculptures.

So the tour is $39 or so and no spots were open. We did tour the gift shop for free. Then we left. Nice desert scenes , also free.

Whether or not you're a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright, this is a beautiful place to visit and learn about the history of American architecture. The free audio-tour is available via an app, and it provided a good sense of place and Wright's approach to design. It is paced well -- interesting details, but not too into the weeds. The setting is beautiful, but it can be hot. Much of the tour is outdoors, so plan accordingly!

I don't usually write negative reviews, but while the house and grounds were spectacular, the staff rushed us through the tour to the point that the experience was not enjoyable.
We had booked the last tour of the day and arrived promptly on time for our tour slot, but they did not even let us complete the first outdoor section of the tour before rushing us into the house. After that, we did not feel like we could enjoy the exhibits at a relaxed pace in the same way that other visitors were encouraged to by the audio guide.
Also, when we reached out to give constructive feedback, they did not respond for several days, and when they finally did, they were dismissive and condescending.
I love Frank Lloyd Wright’s work, and made a special trip to see Taliesin West in particular, but I have to be honest that I don't think I would pay such a high price ($44 each!) to see another of his houses, especially after how we were treated. To any future visitors, I would highly recommend spending your time and money elsewhere.

If you are a Frank Lloyd Wright fan this is the tour for you. Great insight into his design style and life.

Frank Lloyd Wright, Dale Chihuly, In the desert. Just beautiful.
And as my favorite architect (yes I have a favorite architect), the pilgrammage to Taliesin West was really high on the old bucket list. And glad am now able to check it off.
A beautiful campus with the dramatic mountain backdrop. Several classic Wright buildings to show his understanding of nature and building in harmony with the environment - absolutely stunning. Add in the grand glass sculptures of Chihuly and you end up with the complete package. And while you cannot see too much of the buildings, it is more then enough to get a true sense of the mastery of FLW.

Amazing Frank Lloyd Wright property. Took an in-depth tour which as totally worth it. Great for architecture buffs. Beautifully restored and maintained. A true jewel in th desert

I’m not an architecture buff but I love history. This was a very interesting tour and worthwhile to go see. Our guide was outstanding and really gave us super insights into the man, his family, his life, his career and his legacy. We learned a lot about the Arizona desert and were inspired by the fact that FLW did most of his best work in the last 20 years of his life.
Tip - take a hat and sunglasses as a good part of the tour is outside.

As a lifelong fan of Frank Lloyd Wright, I was excited to see his winter home and workplace. While the facility was truly unique and impressive, I found nearly every aspect of the self-guided tour to be, honestly, an annoyance. From the high admittance fee, to having to download an app, to the uncomfortable ear buds, to the excessive and superfluous jibber jabber by the narrater at nearly every stop, it all was just a bit too much. A pamphlet handout explaining each stop would have sufficed. Seems like they have ruined what would otherwise be a truly remarkable experience.

Always wanted to visit this landmark & so glad we did! Our tour guide, I believe her name was Martha, was informative & very friendly. Group of 20 people from all over the USA. The tour was about hour or so and gave us a lot of interesting information about FLW life & his architecture.
Worth the visit

Amazing to see this world heritage site in the hills above Scottsdale. Requires reservations. Well managed so doesn’t get crowded. Excellent tour takes you through Frank Lloyd Wright's winter home and studio. Current addition of exhibit of glass art by famed artist Dale Chihuly fits beautifully into the landscape, and the guide brought alive the similarities between these two artistic geniuses. Must see when you visit the Phoenix area if you are interested in architecture!

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The tour guide was outstanding. She did a great job immersing us in the history and development in the area. This is an important piece of history that can be appreciated at all levels but even more so if you are a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright.

We took the 3¼-hour tour and loved every minute. Our tour director did an excellent job, and we learned more than I can ever remember. Not only did he tell us about the school, FLLW, architecture, and everything else, but he had a lot of amusing anecdotes. Each story seemed to illustrate Wright’s genius, arrogance, and eccentricity.
One special treat was a guest speaker—a woman whose mother was one of Wright’s first students. The speaker grew up with the Wrights, now lives at Taliesin West, and is an historian and archivist.

Wonderfully organized and informative. A lot of thought went into the organization of the facility and the tour. We were lucky to see the Chihuly exhibits, go now, gone in summer

Very impressed with how the home blended in with its surroundings.
There were a lot of people working here standing in most rooms, but no one was cleaning the items. We saw dust covering bowls inside & dirt covering glass balls outside. Still 5 stars because of the ease of using the app & headphones to walk through the home & grounds. Hearing FLWs voice in various clips was wonderful.

We had an enjoyable morning at Taliesen West. We booked our tour on-line and thoroughly enjoyed it. Mr. Wright certainly walked his own path. It was well-worth our time and recommend a visit.

As a FLW Foundation Members, we were able to book a free guided tour. We had a fantastic guide, Marla, who you could tell really loved her job and used to be a elementary school teacher so she was engaging and full of fun facts. I'm a huge fan of Frank's architecture and try to see his buildings when we are near them. It was a lot of fun to be able to tour Taliesin West before heading north to the Grand Canyon. Tour included Wright's office, many rooms in the house, his man-cave movie den, the drafting room, the theater, and the cabaret. It was a Sept afternoon so pretty hot out. Bring plenty of water, hats, and sun screen as it gets toasty there in the warm months. The gift shop has a water refill station for your water bottles in addition to restrooms and anything you could want to buy related to FLW.

The stunning grounds are a highlight, and we enjoyed discovering the evolution of Taliesin West throughout the years. We can’t wait to return for another visit!

I booked the tour at Taliesin West as our last activity on our vacation, before heading to the airport. It was ideal way to end our trip. The guided tour was informational and really takes you into compound, through many spaces. I was surprised how much we got to see and experience, including sitting in some of the rooms. It was a good length tour, not too short or too long, and also uncrushed. There was an art show in the pavilion area the day we went, and that building was cool to see too.

We had not been here in quite a few years and decided to return. Signed up for a tour and it was a wonderful experience. Our tour guide was quite knowledgeable not only about Taliesin West but also Frank Lloyd Wright and was able to answer any questions. The tour was very done at a very relaxed pace and we were not rushed through the buildings. I would certainly recommend it for anyone who had not done it before.

This FLW house was the first stop of many of my trip around the United States. We visited in September. It was beyond beautiful. Spectacular. The tour was good! Would have loved to spend more time in the house. This place is a must see.

I thoroughly enjoyed visiting FLW's west coast home and architectural school. Pretty campus. Great views of the valley from the property, too. My husband knew very little about FLW and he was pleasantly surprised to learn about the man and see his work first hand. Highly recommend. Nice gift shop as well.

Taliesin West has been on my bucket list and I was not disappointed. Frank Lloyd Wright is my favorite architect and his inspiration and design are wonderful to behold. Highly recommend visiting here. During Covid make sure you make reservations ahead of time.

This was well worth the time and the cost. A very interesting site, and the tour information was great. It took us a little less than 2 hours to complete. I would recommend you bring your own airpods/headphones, as the self-guided tour is recorded from their app. They did have earphones (for free) and plugs (must return) for all different smartphones (and even a small device for those without a smartphone). The tour is very well done, and provides lots of interesting facts about the site and FLW. Glad we put this on our itinerary.

I've been wanting to visit here for 30 years and delighted to have finally made it. I love the fact it far out in the hills of Phoenix right below a lovely mountain ridgeline. JUSTINE was the fabulous guide who led the tour (btw? Called the Insight tour...perfect!) throughout the house and premises. Her knowledge of Wright's ideas and implementation coupled with his personal life was fabulous insight to this somewhat elusive but most talented and historic architect. The roof line, the windows, the seating, doorways, stone work, etc. ALL were unique and wonderful and if you know anything about this man's life? Absolutely TRUE to who he was. Fabulous morning!

Taliesin West is a must-see if you appreciate architecture, design, or history. The self-guided audio tour is beautifully organized and gives a great sense of Frank Lloyd Wright’s creative world. We spent a peaceful morning walking through the studios, gardens, and desert landscapes — it truly feels like stepping back in time. Complimentary parking and friendly staff made everything smooth. I work at Scottsdale Dental Arts, about 9 minutes south, and often recommend this to anyone visiting the area for a cultural experience beyond the usual tourist spots.

Expensive (as all of these are), but worth the price. On the audio tour you see the public spaces - anywhere the students would have gone, but not private living quarters. Audio tour is well paced, and you can hang back to let groups pass for best photo opportunities (there's decent spacing as everyone moves at his/her pace). Recording at times verges on hagiography (FLW was in some ways a petty tyrant), but then this is a sanctioned version, lol. Fascinating man, always fascinating architecture, and they do point his shortcomings - he was not s structural engineer, nor an ergonomist! Stunning in conception and a place of real beauty even at 100 degrees.

If you are a fan of architecture then this is for you! We opted for the tour so we can see the spaces inside the house. Our tour guide Justine was extremely passionate about the property but a bit all over with information as we traveled from space to space. Expected to hear a bit more back story on who Frank Lloyd Wright was since not everyone traveling with us had heard his name before.

Taliesin West is a good architectural tour but to get real insight into Frank Lloyd Wright you’ll need to read up ahead of time or go to the original site in Wisconsin. The self guided audio tour focuses primarily on the history of the site and its architectural features.

Simply outstanding tour combining the FLW structures with Chihuly glass installations. The best part of our visit was Rebecca, our tour guide. She was super enthusiastic and matched her enthusiasm with great knowledge.

We thought that the audio tour was very informative, and it was just the right amount of information. It allowed for people to spread out for good social distancing and COVID-19 protection. Masks were also required and enforced. They have iPads with the audio tour so if you don't have a mobile device they can lend you one. The tour went to the outdoor courtyard, FLW's office, the living room, the reflecting pool, the studio, the theater, and many more rooms. The staff was helpful and friendly. They have a nice gift shop with unique Frank Lloyd Wrighty items for sale. Make sure to reserve a tour for the time you'd like because you can't just drive over and walk right in without a reservation.

We visited the museum and took the 90 minute guided tour. We were very impressed by the detail provided by the guide and the ability to truly experience the house and grounds. This is not the typical off-limits museum — you can really get into the living areas and get a feel for what Wright was trying to accomplish/build and how he did it. We were positively surprised by the tour and recommend it to anyone visiting the area — you don’t need to be a Wright fan to enjoy the experience.

We were there just before the COVID-19 outbreak shut it down. Our tour guide was Rochelle and she was remarkably knowledgeable and very friendly. We were very lucky to have such an informative tour. Clearly a highlight of any trip to Phoenix.

Beautiful venue and great tour guide with Deb. She knew her stuff and was so pleasant for our entire tour. Highly recommend a stop here

This was another 'special' I wanted to visit as unique to Phoenix on my first visit. It did not disappoint. The general tour is quite good and lots of good photos with wide angel lens but they do rush you through for $35 tour. It was enough time to really enjoy the property and look at all the unique architectural pieces of the property. Really loved the living room and even got to sit down with the tour and check out some of the architecture. Loved the big auditorium of quarzite - So unique. Also allowed to sit down to really take it in. I was expecting a hard hike through the property but VERY enjoyable pace even for a person with some mobility challenges. We sat down a lot and all explained. LOVED IT! I heard the school was having financial problems and may close as of Feb. 2020. I SO hope that doesn't happen. This needs to be preserved and the students are the best people to learn about preserving architectural gems. Really even feel like FLW's was present as the excellent docent gave great stories about the man and his life at Taliesen with his families. This is a must!

A tremendous example of Frank Lloyd Wright;s design. The guides were knowledgeable and provided an informative and entertaining tour. Well worth the time and a unique experience.

Staff is horrible. Mask enforcers with no manners or way to treat customers. Not very helpful with any questions you. I have been a member of the Frank Lloyd foundation for several years. Booked online a couple of months ago to go with my 3 Sons. Since I am a member I did not need a ticket. Flew from Oklahoma. Check in with my 3 sons tickets and they would not let me go on the tour because they had not booked me and due to Covid only 10 people were allowed on a tour and I would have made 11. They had a little meeting with the manager and she came over and was less than friendly and lectured the group on the seriousness of Covid in a very condescending manner. I did not need that as a lot of my family member have had it and I have buried three of my close friends that have died from Covid. She then proceeds to not practice social distancing on the tour.

It was a great visit. Informative, interesting and fun. It was a very hot sunny day and they had umbrellas to use. The audio guide was good and I learned so much. Pretty setting.

Taliesin West was Frank Lloyd Wright's home and studio and architect school for half of each year during the most productive period of his career. The buildings are fantastic, and the tours are incredibly informative.

This was our first visit inside of a Frank Lloyd Wright designed space or a UNESCO world heritage site. The audio tour was well thought out and made it easy to walk around the space at our own pace. Anyone who is a fan of architecture or Frank Lloyd Wright should take the time to visit.

We had beautiful weather the day we went. The house is secluded out in the desert, very quiet and peaceful. We had a great docent give us our tour and he really loved telling the stories of the man and his architectural school and home. It was extremely interesting.

Taliesin West is an interesting example of Frank Lloyd Wright's design and the escorted tour gave you an insight into his originality. Our guide was rather too gushing for our taste but others seemed to enjoy her enthusiasm and 'folksy' tales. However, what made this particularly wonderful were the Chihuly installations around the grounds which perfectly chimed with the architecture and made the visit particularly special.

Horribly expensive if you are not a fan of architecture.
The concept and the story are interesting but it is not worth the detour for the neophyte.
Lovers of constrained architecture, design, will surely appreciate.

Taliesin West epitomizes the life and work of Frank Lloyd Wright. The basic tours brings the architect and his life alive with anecdotes and stories about life, building the center, earning a living and dealing with apprentices. The setting is spectacular, and this tour should not be missed. We had a beautiful day to top it off, and a great tour guide.

We went for the evening Night Lights tour. It was raining that night, but the crowds were much smaller than the daytime tours. I was able to get a lot of stunning photos by hanging out towards the back of the tour and waiting for folks to head to the next spot. Our guide was very enthusiastic about my enthusiasm so she let it fly. I've toured a few FLW designed homes around the Midwest but none of them came with as much insight on the man himself. As an architectural designer, I knew a bit but the tour was very informative, giving tons of little tidbits about his philosophies, ideals, and life. Definitely would do it again! My only complaint is that it was raining that evening. I went back the next day to see if I could get a few decent exterior shots without the rain and the ticket person was kind of rude.

Taliesin West was awesome. Granted, I really enjoy his buildings and try to visit homes he has built whenever I am on a road trip. But even if I wasn't into the architecture I think I would enjoy checking the place out. It was expensive though and I don't think kids would enjoy it so if you're a family on a budget maybe skip it.
We did the audio tour. I would prefer a guided tour as tour guides with other Frank Lloyd Wright properties are very knowledgeable and can answer questions; however, the only guided tours were at 10am which is too early for people like me who are on a night shift schedule. The audio tour was good though with interesting info.
It was a LONG line in the gift shop to pick up the audio devices, but I was happy my personal earbuds were compatible. Keep in mind a lot of the tour is outside. When we were there in April it was a great day and only about 70 degrees, sunny skies and no wind. Probably not a good idea to visit in summer or a rainy day. The building and grounds were cool. Loved the triangular pond and how the interior was decorated.
You don't have to pay to get into the gift shop. That's separate from the rest of the property. They had a number of interesting items.

I am a FLW fan and have visited many of the properties he designed. This tour was less that expected. The guide was well intentioned but while the "script" focused on some key facts about the property it omitted many of the unique design elements that differentiated FLW from others. I had to read up on the property afterwards - not a good sign after paying $ for a tour. The tour was long and rambling and HOT!. Make sure you take one of the umbrellas offered to shield from the sun. I suggest doing the audio tour instead so you can go at your own pace.

Very fun. We got to explore the campus and ask lots of questions to the people who worked there. Super fun people and an amazing place to watch the sun set! If you're a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright this is a must see stop!

I am so glad we went on this tour. Even my 9 year old son enjoyed it. Paula was our guide and she was so knowledgeable. It was interesting and we were able to take a lot of pictures inside and outside.

Beautiful home built by Frank Lloyd Wright. Self guided tour was easy to follow. A little expensive. An hour to tour the home and property.

Absolutely incredible building.
The audio tour is amazing really brings the site to life and explains why things have been designed the way they have.
Tickets do sell out and are limited to avoid any crowding so book in advance.
Take your own headphones but they do supply them. The tour is accessible via their app and they do have WiFi on site if you don’t download it in advance.
It’s a beautiful site both inside and out, the building is like a time capsule.
It is incredibly peaceful and absolutely unique - don’t miss out.

Our daughter is an architecture major so we really enjoyed getting to take this tour. Currently they have Chihuly sculptures on the grounds so I believe the entry fee was higher than normal as we didn't think it justified $50 pp to get in. That's higher than seeing other famous people's homes, etc. We took the audio tour and it was really drawn out and the voice-over person was terrible. We just fast forwarded some of the sections as you do it on your own phone. Some of the areas normally on the tour are not available because of Chihuly. Bring your own water as there's not any to buy and the water out of the fountain was not good.

Interesting place and beautiful setting but did not like the mask requirement for the tour when not required by CDC guidelines. Guide did not really encourage questions or provide much information about Fank lLoyd Wright, the person. No time to look around at each stop of tour.

A great educational tour of what Frank Lloyd Wright provided to the world! A in depth personalized tour (with a knowledgeable guide) provide not only great insights but living examples of the FLW architecture. I would highly recommend this tour

We took the Wright and Chiluly tour, and it is so worth it. I have wanted to see it for a long time, and we took advantage of it during a cross country trip. It was amazing to see Wright's work up close and get inside it. Our guide was fantastic and very engaging, and gave us terrific insight into Wright's process. And Dale Chiluly's sublime glass sculptures just fit in perfectly with the architecture and the desert landscape. I highly recommend visiting Taliesin at least once in your life.

We took the 3-hour tour. I’ve been to a few other FLW properties across the country, but the folks we dragged with us had never really heard of him and had minimal knowledge of him.
We all agreed it was a great experience led by a docent (Paula) who had vast knowledge of the property and just as interesting, the biography and backstory of Wright.
The three hours went very fast and we all walked away with a greater appreciation of the site and the man.

Must do for fans of FLW. Astonishing aesthetic in desert setting. Most of the home and studio is accessible. Audio tour available. Wonderful drafts for the Guggenheim Museum on view in the studio. Visitors are welcome to sit in the rooms, which really enhances the experience. (Not the case in the FLW homes in IL and WI).
Expensive. No food for purchase onsite. Events held frequently, see website. Not appropriate for children, not ADA accessible. Free parking. Amazing giftshop.

This was my second visit and it was just as good as the first. If you have an opportunity to see Chihuly in the Desert, it was a real treat. Another treat was our tour guide, Rebecca. She was fun, entertaining and full of great information! We really got our money’s worth and I will definitely return for a third tour. One thing to add, if you have been before; we did not see the exact same rooms/areas as my first time. Some were the same and some were new, so don’t expect the tour to be the same if you go again. Not disappointed at all, just different.

Taliesin West is a fascinating place and a must-see for FLW enthusiasts. It is also an easy drive from Scottsdale; I recommend the combo of staying at the Hotel Valley Ho and visiting Taliesin West. The behind-the-scenes tour is definitely worth jt; Laura did a nice job of leading the tour. Just know, though, that you don’t get to see all of the spaces; so, that was the only disappointing thing.

This tour gives you a great insight into FLW mindset and type of architecture. We weren't expecting much, but after the 1.5 hour tour we were glad we came

A visit to the former home of Frank Lloyd Wright (FLW) is a treat! He considered sight, space, light, and use as he designed, built, and lived in the spaces of this winter home (the summer home, just Taliesen in is in WI). An hour long self-guided tour is part of the admission and allows one to go at their own pace, talking while you walk even. Everything is well-marked, and the home is truly an example of mid-century modern as one would expect from FLW. Only disappointment was we didn't really get into many of the actual furnished living spaces. The parking can be challenging but well worth persisting. Make a timed-entry reservation and pay online before you go.

We went on the tour for “Chihuly in the Desert” and it was beyond outstanding. Our guide was Jacob who was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. You really get to see a lot of the interior and get a very good sense of the place, for Frank Lloyd Wright and his overarching vision. Well worth the ticket cost. I don’t know how long the Chihuly installations are there but it is amazing.

Do not hesitate to visit Taliesin West. It is an absolute ‘must see’ for young and old, design students, inquiring minds, history buffs and more.
A unique view into the mind of Frank Lloyd Wright and his talented students, turning a baron piece of land into an amazing architectural wonder, winter home and design studio.
There is so much to take in, visually and emotionally as you walk around. An amazing and insightful audio tour guides you from space to space. Light, texture and flow are the result of this masterpiece created out of literally nothing.
Get there early. Better still, arrive before it opens, that way you can enjoy the amazing views and audio tour in peace before the crowds begin to gather and slow down your experience.

A visit to this facility is a rewarding experience for both an architectural enthusiast and well as an ordinary inquisitive person. A reasonably paced self guided tour using headphones and a playback device, let's you see, experience and witness how this unique residence and studio of a prominent American architect was built, with only locally available materials , stones and a small cement mixer.
Worth taking the time to drive out to this facility .........the view of the surrounding landscape was good too.

We loved visiting this beautiful compound ! The architecture is amazing and it is so well maintained with gorgeous landscaping and artwork. Our tour guide , Frank, gave one of the best tours we’ve had anywhere. He is passionate about the site and Frank Lloyd Wright. He is enthusiastic, funny and articulate and brought everything to life.
This is really worth going to even for people who aren’t FLW fans.

This is a really interesting landmark. I've always loved architecture (all kinds) and it was really cool to see a home designed by one of the preeminent architects of the 20th century. The home has lots of clever and unique design features and beautiful spaces. There's a nice gift shop with lots of options, and most items based on Wright's designs. We took the guided tour, which lasts about 90 minutes. There are modern, clean restrooms, a fountain to fill your water bottle, and they even have loaner umbrellas (first come, first serve) to shield you from the desert sun. I do recommend booking ahead online if you want a guided tour, as those book up well in advance.
The only reason I gave Taleisin West 4 stars instead of 5 is the cost. It was $50 per person for our tour. We did a 2 hour guided tour of a wildlife conservation park a few days before, and it was not only longer, but more dynamic and only $35 pp. I used to give downtown walking tours in Nantucket that were similar in length, included about a dozen stops and only costs $20 pp. And Nantucket is one of the most expensive places on earth! I was hoping to visit Taleisin in Wisconsin at some point, but I just looked it up and their 2 hour tour is almost $70. I'm not sure why they charge so much more than similar sites, but I probably won't be visiting the Wisconsin FLW home at that price.
Scottsdale, Taliesin West and Desert Botanical Gardens!
We toured Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin West and the Desert Botanical Gardens in Scottsdale as well. We have always been interested in touring Taliesin West...and with the addition of Dave Chihuly's glass display...it was absolutely beautiful and educational! The Chihuly display at the Gardens also was fantastic. At Taliesin West we took the guided tour and that was very, very informative! We love the Scottsdale area and this became a highlight of our 2022 visit!
