We ran the marathon here. Nice park with a unique bronze of city workers. Good place to enjoy morning coffee.

Beautiful lake and park at the north end of the Mill Ave. District. Excellent for walking and bike riding. Also boat rentals available.

We were at Tempe Town Lake. The lake was so beautiful.
There were many people buying a rental board.
There were many people on this rentals.
I liked the bridges as well.
There were many bridges. Wow!
Also there is a beach as well.

It's actually not a beach in the conventional sense. It's a man-made resevoir for boating and fishing.
There is no way to go swimming and quite frankly after seeing the water, I was happy my hotel had a pool.
It has a nicely groomed walkway and bike path and was worth an hour strolling along it.
There are also paddle boats and canoes for rent if that's what you feel like doing.

The first week of January I visited with my daughter who lives in Mesa, Az. Having arrived in Tucson shortly before Christmas, I promised I would spend some time with her. I wanted to do
something new and since she knew I loved water she suggested the park in Tempe. When we
arrived I was surprised by the size of the lake in the middle of a town, it is 2 miles long and at
least a half mile wide. There were a few people fishing and then I saw the boat ramp. They
rent row boats, kayaks, pedal boats among others and I decided to get my exercise with a
pedal boat. This was an inexpensive way to spend an hour for two and boy did I get a work-
out. Plenty of people in the park, including an AZ Guard unit taking PT, lots of fun.

We had a fun time here. Our family rented a covered 3 person bike and enjoyed a ride along the river. It is very scenic and there were a lot of people in kayaks and using SUP boards in the water. This is a nice recreation area filled with runners and other people enjoying the sunshine. You can pack a lunch and enjoy eating outside in the areas that shaded picnic benches.

This was a wonderful venue for an outdoor festival. It's clean, well serviced, and has lots of room to play.

Home of many triathalons and Marathons, Tempe Beach Park is the perfect place to go to bike or run.

Saw a concert there. Waited over an hour just to get into the venue. Missed 3/4 of the first band just waiting to get in. After 3 hours there were over 100 people in 4 lines just to get a wrist band to have a beer. I'm 61 and really don't think waiting an hour to get a wrist band should happen. The most unorganized venue I've ever seen. After 4 hours there were 4 people at each banding station just standing around. Very poor management.

In the summer, kids love the splash pad. It is also a nice place for a picnic with a perfect view of Tempe Town Lake.

Very nice, well-kept park. Easy to get to. Lots of activities, including paddle boats, kayaks, canoes, paddle boards. Concerts are given at various times, as well.

Was expecting perhaps a little more. It’s not really a beach or a lake. You can rent kayaks and paddle boards etc. Did some walking around and it was a beautiful day.

We were there on a Sunday night walking off our dinner, and the place was hopping with folks out for night-time bike rides, walks, fishing. Huge waterfront park. Check out the train bridge with the changing light show that reflects in the water. Very lovely!

As I walked across the Second Mill Avenue Bridge (aka New Mill Avenue Bridge) towards the Mill Avenue District of Tempe, I couldn't but admire the scenic views of Tempe Town Lake - a vast reservoir in the Salt River basin.
There are two bridges across Tempe Town Lake - and both are quite functional, one of them - First Mill Avenue Bridge, also known as Old Mill Avenue Bridge - is close to celebrate its hundred years old fairly soon, historically speaking: in 2031.
Both bridges also decorate and add visual volume to the scenery, and they also enhance the meaning and significance of Tempe Town Lake in the contemporary life of the city.Tempe Town Lake is popular for sailing, kayaking and rowing. From the bridge, it looked very peaceful and beautiful on a sunny day.

If you're looking for a peaceful stroll come here especially in the early evenings during spring time in April and in March when the weather's not so hot. It's quiet no one ever comes and its peaceful

Visited here in late September in the morning and was still too hot to enjoy. Not terribly exciting to walk around a man made lake but I guess in the desert - it is a change of scenery.
Would not visit again.

A great place for a walk in the park, literally. You can see the artificial dam, the river and their are boats to rent. The front of the park features a bronze pair of first responders, and a dog. Travel down Mill for eateries in all directions. Many big name employers are showing up in the area, so, you can work there as well, plus the stadium near A butte is around the corner. Worth the trip.

I was a little disappointed that this park was labeled a "beach". It really wasn't a beach. On the plus side, It had lots to see and do in regards to boats, bikes and scooters.

Had family in town. We decided to go to the beach area and rented an electric boat for an hour. Our grandchildren enjoyed the boat ride. We supervised them while they tried driving the boat. They supplied life jackets for the kids. Had a great time. Want to do it again. They also had paddle boats, paddle boards and 2 sizes of electric boats.

This is a nice park and walking/biking area in Tempe. It is easy walking distance from the Mill Ave restaurant/bar scene and a good getaway from there and will give you some exercise and fresh air. There are paddle boats avail for rent. I saw that they have concerts and other events in the park during the year. Long walking/biking paths along the Salt River drainage. Nice sunset the evening I was there.

For some reason I really love biking in city parks. Maybe it is the contrast of seeing nature in the midst of buildings and so much development. It looks like an impressive amount of work was done here to create a lake in the first place and to create the park space and paths on both sides.
We rented bikes at The Bicycle Cellar and biked primarily along the Lake. It was pleasant enough. There were others jogging, biking, and fishing on the weekday morning we were there, but with all the space and so much construction still going on around, it felt somewhat artificial. Maybe I'm being a bit unfair in comparing it to biking in Central Park or along the Schuylkill River in Philly, but it just wasn't the same.

Take time to visit enjoy the lake enemeties.
The great walking trails on the north and south shores.
The south shore has the Tempe Beach Park but it is a pain right now due to the street construction.
Late evening walk is a great time to walk the trails.
Did not enjoy the water activities but others did.
a nice place to cool off.

This park adjoins the Tempe Town Lake, a shallow (16' deep) artificial lake created by damming the Salt River. Swimming is not allowed, except during the triathlon event, but plenty of rowing crews and sailors enjoy boating on the lake. The beach is one of many locations for July 4 fireworks, but due to its proximity to ASU it is very crowded. Not worth a special trip, in my opinion.

Tempe Beach Park is relaxing and a nice place to watch airplanes and enjoy the Arizona sun. Natural beauty.

This place is nice if the day isn't a hot humid one. I rented a water item from them twice-the first was a kayak, the second a paddle board. I definitely enjoyed the kayak more. You can only rent for one-hour increments so standing on a paddle board gets pretty tiring after a while.
The girl who took our money was pretty rude-not a fan, but the guy who got us into the water was pretty cool. -- I wouldn't do this over a good hike, or maybe a horse-back ride. It's a little pricey, and tempe town lake is pretty gross.

First off do not be mislead by the "beach" title. There is no beach here. It consists os an aprox. 2ft wide shore line of pebbles before the lake. I guess you can name it a beach when you live in AZ.
The lake overall is great though, We took our daughter there and there is a long path that takes you around the entire lake where you can bike, rollerblade, walk, jog etc...
There are boat, kyak, canoe and paddle boat rentals.
Bathrooms are around with a playgound and picnic areas.
A refreshment stand with snack, ice cream and drinks too! They do take all credit cards incase you have no cash on hand.
It was a nice way to spend the day ;)

We rented a green bikes. ...it's $7/hr. ... we had a nice ride. ...
The park was fun. ... there a lot to do. ... you can rent bikes, scooter, boat, and etc. ...
The views was serene. ... it was very nice. ...

This is a happening spot in Tempe where you can walk along the water, enjoy a concert or festival, rent a kayak or a boat, or just hang out. The proximity to the Mill Avenue District make the Tempe Beach Park one of the most desirable places to meet friends, share a romantic stroll, or sit and meditate on the merits of being in the Valley of the Sun.

Tempe Beach Park is a great place to catch some fresh air. It has a great walking and biking path that runs right along the "lake" water front and has large grass lawns to sit and relax. There is a rental shop on the lake that rents boats, kayaks, and paddle-boards. Tempe Beach Park is quite large, so I'd recommend downloading the app, Avem, to help you discover and find different park amenities.

When living in the dorms at ASU I used to jog to and along the lake frequently. I've even cooled off in the splash pad after a long run. Its a nice park where you often see families fishing, people walking their dogs, kids on the playground/splash pad, bikers/joggers or couples out on a peddle boat. I loved walking my dog there because of the frequent waste disposal stations and even a few doggie drinking fountains. I've ridden the pedal boats and really enjoyed them. They have a canapy you can put for shade. You can watching the rowing teams practice if you're out at the right time. It is a great place for festivals; I've even ridden a ferris wheel at the park.
Over all I have some great memories at this park and plan on going back for the 4th of July.

We need the lake in Arizona to get another perspective. A psychologist friend once told me, "When you need to think, go to a location where you can see long distance." I love this area not just for thinking but for bike riding, paddle boating or walking. or for one of the many festival held in this area.

Hired the e-scooters and travelled around the lakes footpath at 15 miles per hour. Great fun and lovely scenery.

Absolute garbage, complete waste of time. I can’t stand this city. It’s hot, it stinks, and its the closest thing to Dante’s inferno you can get. It’s scarily close to getting radiation poising and slowly having your skin melt off while your body decomposes. I think phoenix is Gods greatest disappointment and it should be smited from this earth.

I work in the area and my family often comes down for lunch and we walk along the lakefront. When they have events, it is always easy to get in and out of. The water features are great for the kids on hot days and you can rent a paddle boat to cruise out on the lake.

I've done a 10K here, gone to the Arts Festival, watched the Dragon Boats, ridden the light rail, tried restaurants, and had great drinks. Just a fun place to go visit. Another favorite place to bring visitors.

We had a blast here for a couple of hours. It is located in a nice Tempe neighborhood, close to businesses, restaurants and ASU. We rented a tandem kayak for an hour. The water was refreshing considering it was midday and 100 degrees! The water is clean and not overcrowded. There are places to boat as well. There were a few homeless people in the area but they didn't bother anyone. The park was clean and nice, no graffiti in sight. I did not see any area to swim, however, this is more of a reservoir turned park, not necessarily a place to swim.

Living in the Phoenix area, there isn't much water so walking around this man-made body of water was a delight.

We were doing a walk aound Tempe and came upon this nice park on the wide Salt Lake right by the Mill Ave. Bridge. Water playground, paved walkways, benches in a refreshing setting. A nice oassis in town.

man made lake in the normally dry salt river bed,it is used by the A.S.U. rowing clubs and others.looks neat

Start the day with a bike ride around Tempe Town Lake and then have a great breakfast at NCounter. Always somthing going on at Tempe Beach Park.

Cute little park area and paths next to the lake. I had read there is a splash pad for kids; however, apparently that closed down a year or so ago. There was no festivals going on when we went. You can rent bikes, paddle boards, pedal boats, and kayaks. There are some areas to play volleyball and a memorial. There is not an abundance of shade.

Lovely place! Great to rent a stand up paddle board and check out downtown Tempe. The walking/jogging path is beautiful and a great way to see all the lake has to offer.

Stand Up Paddle boards were AWESOME! The Tempe Town lake was attractive and super clean. They had paddle boars, kayaks and more. A very enjoyable time. We will go back for sure!

I've always enjoyed visiting this site when I'm around town. But now that they have developed it, especially the beach and small boating area on the north side, it's even more appealing. Locals like to roller blade, cycle, and skateboard here. The bike path goes on for quite a ways. Though there is free parking, it does get busy and you might have to park elsewhere and walk over.

I come here more for events than to actually walk around and check out the scenery. Came here for John Kerry's campaign party where the Foo Fighters played, truly a great time. Then again for a few beer festivals and music festivals. Well organized, staff is helpful and their set up is on point. Really enjoy spending the day walking around a festival here, always feel welcome and relaxed.

We go here for the Aloha Festival every March. It's a large venue, but with no shade if it's sunny. The Tempe Town Lake is right there.

I went there for the 9ll tribute, quite moving, even though it was ll0 degrees out, the tribute and the water made it seem cooler

Good place for a stroll and to soak up the sun.
Water sports facilities are available and food trucks on certain days.

Lovely open space. Lots of cement and not enough shade.

This is a nice park in downtown Tempe along the river. I didn't love it by any means but it's a nice place to hang out. Great location if you are playing Pokemon Go. There is a place you can rent boats or paddle boards to play on the river. And the beach is very pretty at sunset. Worth checking it if you have a couple of days in the area.

This is a really nice area to bike or go for a walk. Getting over the bridges is not marked very well, but once you figure out where the entrances are it's really nice.

Guess if you have nothing else to do, but I wouldn't make this the choice of the day. If you like reservoirs, this is the place for you.

Love the lake and what Tempe has done with it. If it was for the lake I wouldn't live in my neighborhood. It's what drew me to the area. I'm from a place with lots of water so naturally I was attracted to this place. Lots of events and festivals. It's simply beautiful there. It's a breath of fresh air in the valley in my opinion. I could see living anywhere else in the valley because of this lake. The theater is really nice to visit while there as well as other things like paddle boarding.

This is a great place for the young and the old.walk, ride a bike,
Skateboard or go for a ride in paddle boat alone the river.I know
Sometimes there is music playing.

Wonderful area for picnicking, strolling, or going for a small paddle boat ride. Easy access and nice views from the bridge above the park.

Well-maintained urban park connected with extensive paved paths along both sides of the river. I walked a few mile long loop down towards the airport, across the river, and back up the other side. The whole thing was very clean and well-maintained, and it seems like a popular spot to run/bike.

This is such a cute little lake with fun boats and a clean trail that goes around it. We ALWAYS have a good time when we come to Tempe Town Lake. I recommend the paddle boats, for sure! It's super romantic but make sure to wear bug spray. It's also a nice place to get your steps or play Pokemon.

I recently visited Kiwanis Park in Tempe, AZ for an Islamic holiday celebration. This holiday was Eid. Eid is an Islamic holy day of feast and celebration which follows and marks the end of Ramadan. Ramadan is a holy month in which Muslims fast from sunrise to sundown, and through the whole Muslims may only touch food and drink during dark hours. This event located at Kiwanis Park included free “carnival like” foods such as pizza, chicken, snow cones, and cotton candy. The quality of the food was average at best.
The entertainment included a kid’s jump house, a petting zoo, volleyball, basketball, and music. The cultural aspect of this event was not really present during my visit, although the festival had some meaning it seemed like a regular not well organized event. Most of the audience consisted of elderly parents or small children. This made the experience much worse for someone my age. (17) There was virtually no way to cool off and it was over 105 degrees outside, and there was not a bathroom in sight. I must criticize the way the organizers had children helping out on the snow cone and cotton candy machines just made the lines slower and longer.
The location of the event was poorly located at the least convenient area of the park available and organizers could have done a better job of choosing a better spot. The event started at 4pm and ended at 8pm and should either be moved next time to start early in the morning and end before 1pm or start later in the day and end before 9p. Overall the organizers could have chosen better staff, a more convenient location, a larger variety of foods, and made the event more cultural. I suggest maybe some background information and religious talk next time, and maybe some live performances. I would give this event 1 out of 5 stars, possibly 2 out of 5 stars if I were an elderly parent or younger child.

We stumbled on this park by accident and decided to get out and take a stroll. We were very happy we did. The lake, man-made and nothing like the Finger Lakes at home, nonetheless was a welcome sight where water is at such a premium. The park was nice with benches, a splash pad, kayak, paddle boat and board, and bike rentals, and a nice path you could take all the way around. There is a free museum at one end of the lake. The building itself was fantastic plus lots of art inside. Would love to see one of their shows. Staff there were very friendly, helpful, and explained the history of the museum and lake to us. It's a good place to relax and kill an hour or two. As others have said there didn't seem to be a beach.

Since I live here I fished there almost every other weekend I enjoyed walking jogging riding my bike seeing the area there is so much to see and do you can rent boats you can rent paddleboats there are classes for kayaking just everything in the world really a great place

Walked around here in morning, noon, evening and night. Best place to be in.
No matter the time this place is just amazing.

I enjoy riding my bicycle on the paths along Tempe Town Lake and have taken the public art walking tour and viewed dozens of art installations there as well. It's an odd little way to experience water here in the Sonoran desert.

Different view of a desert town. Be sure and walk along the lake from the Park toward the Tempe Center for the Arts.

A great place for an evening run to enjoy the sunset and see aircraft coming in to land at the nearby airport

wow from a nice walk or run to kayaking, SUP's or paddleboats!
watching the ASU rowing team .
Just beautiful and clean !!

It is a clean and nice park. Close to Red Lion Inn There was a triathlon there over the weekend and it was well organized within the park.

Have been bike riding in the area a few times. Clean, good people enjoying walking and bike riding.

The weekends in the winter time are a great time to visit the park. Paddle boats, grass, and open spaces are waiting for you here.

While staying in Tempe, my girlfriend and I go out for morning exercise. She runs, and I walk. One day we both decided to walk together and headed north on Mill toward the Tempe bridge. Saw the Beach Park and did a loop around it. It's beautiful. Nice scenery, clean, and lots of people. We crossed the foot bridge across the river and then made our way back over the Tempe bridge and back up Mill. A great walk. The Beach Park is a great place to get some exercise.

During my recent work related visit to Tempe, I came across this attraction by chance. I had a couple of hours spare time after work and I asked a local hotel staff for a recommendation. It was kind of cold that evening but I definitely enjoyed by leisure walk by the lake. The parking was convenient and free. There were few people taking stroll by the lake and it was about the sunset time. The sunset was so beautiful all around. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys nature. I wasn't here on a warm day or did n't do anything else so can;t comment on that but sunset definitely impressed me.

Great place to enjoy a late afternoon snack, have a rest and take in Tempe! It was a hot day - but enjoyed a bit a breeze off the water!

Lovely place to relax for even just a moment. There's some sculptures and art scattered about, a little splash zone for kiddies, spots to fish, stairs leading down into the lake for paddling, and hills of grass to relax on. Day or night, both occasions are great, as I've been here both times of the day! Come sit back for a bit before or after roaming around Mill Ave, it's worth it.

When you visit downtown Tempe, you really get a small town feel, yet this little city in a big city has whatever you want. Students attending ASU get an enormous University experience in a small town environment.

People need to get out more often with their kids and let them run wild here. Soft and bouncy flooring thats shock absorbing with lots of water features that can be kind to the back and knees.
Besides the more athletic and acrobatic ones get to do flips and other moves reserved only for them w/o the risk of injury.
Trust me, I know first hand from the grandkids....oh ya.
Especially when the weather is favourable you will spend more time here. It's in the middle of a college town,Tempe on the campus of ASU ( Arizona State University) in an area that's been revitalized over the last decade or so. Tempe town lake, the bridge and light rail bridge are all adjacent to it at one end of Mill Avenue, a college crowd hangout jammed with pubs and restaurant/fast food places. It's an area to visit in the evenings or nights too for various reasons. Anyway the park is well done and with lots of visitors during the day especially due to its location that's easy to get to by car, light rail or other means of transportation. Sun Devil stadium is proximal too and is now udergoing a massive renovation. It has once been the site of a Super Bowl as well among a host of other sporting and non sporting events.
All in all a fun place to visit in an area of Metro Phoenix that also has a lot to offer tourists, visitors, locals and others.
Recommend it for all ages.

Tempe Beach Park is laid out along the similarly misleadingly named Tempe Town Lake. I don't recommend visiting the "lake" or the "Beach Park." Both are a desperate and misguided effort by the city and the chamber of commerce to pretend Tempe is an oasis in the desert by creating an expensive and wasteful water feature in the Salt River flood plain. It is little more than a superficial visual amenity. The "lake" is a long, narrow and virtually sterile reservoir of pumped groundwater lined by a concrete bank with two inflatable dams at each end to hold the water in place. It's not useful for much of anything and it has no ecological function. It is only functional as an expression of resistance to the reality of the desert. Although I admit that the lights of the Mill Ave bridge look nice reflecting on the water at night. The linear park is a good place to get exercise: walking, jogging, roller blading, biking. It runs along the "lake" for more than a mile. Be aware, however, that there is little shade or shelter and a lot of brick and concrete, so if it is a hot day you will be uncomfortable.

Love to take the dogs for a nice long walk here. Also great for roller blading, kayaking, and events such as concerts and festivals.

Great place to walk the dog or have a picnic on the weekend. I don't recommend going there late at night though.

Lots of things to do here. Great multi-use park. Walk, run, kayak, etc. They have great markets, concerts and tons of other events here.

My friend and I met for a stroll along the river on a lovely day. This is a very nice park. I am looking forward to bringing my grandchildren to go out on the water in a paddle boat soon.

The area is large with a manmade waterway along one side. The waterway is great for paddleboats or kayaks. The paths are good for walking, running or bike riding. The open area is good for picnics. Throughout the year, there are a number of big events in this large space. Right at the end of Main Street, it is a short walk to this nice college town. The immediate corporate campuses and new housing have been developed nicely.

What a lake in the desert, yes it's man made but it is lovely and there is always something going on for kids of all ages

A nice and quiet park to visit on weekday morning. The views were nice, the park was clean, and is close to downtown.

The place is okay, but I would not drive from Chandler for any event held at a park with a man made lake with no swimming allowed.

Always something going on at the park. The war memorial was there when we arrived. People paying their respects to our warriors. It was a nice day. walking along the lake watching the ducks and other birds. You can rent boats and eat hot dogs , the kids could get their faces painted. Great day....

Well worth a walk or an evening stroll. This is within easy walking distance of Mill Avenue and ASU. There are some boats for rent or hire. Shade trees and grass in many areas. Rare large urban lake in the Phoenix area.

Almost a hidden gem in the way that people just drive past it or around it, Tempe Town Lake is an adorable little park on the north edge of the Arizona State University campus that offers plenty of aquatic activities...boating, sailing, paddleboarding, and plenty of other things too. The lake is also flanked by little parks and walking paths that are a great way to get in some steps. Conveniently located right off the 202...a fun place to stop by, especially early morning or late at night! Some of the best sunset views over Phoenix.

Fun activites held on many weekends. Miss the touring boat for out-of-town visitors, but refreshing on hot summer days, to be around the water.

My family visited the Tempe Beach Park on a Thursday afternoon. We parked in the paid parking lot ($2/hr) and walked East down the river walk. Since it was the week of Christmas there wasn't a lot of people at the park or riverwalk. Plenty of Bird Scooters available to rent and ride. Paddle boats, donut boats, etc were available for rent, but they were a bit expensive. We didnt find much to do here, so we walked into downtown Tempe to check out the shops and eateries. Definitely a nice place to enjoy the sunshine.

It was the hottest day ever, which isn't their fault. While everything is overpriced like most vendors, it is a nice big and open outdoor venue and parking was fairly easy (though a bit of a walk). Layout allowed for the lead singer of Weezer to literally climb around the whole venue's fences which was fun to watch. Stage when setup was fairly large and it was easy to get up as close as I wanted.

This area is completely taken over by the race. It was easy to get to , plenty of bathrooms. It was a beautiful walking area. The water is cold, but you don't normally swim there.

I was here in the morning for a run. The place is clean and seemed safe. There were some rowers out on the lake. The paths are well maintained. It was a nice place to watch the sunrise.

This place is perfect for walking along the river. You can even rent a boat or bicycle. There are lots of benches to rest on. The park is very popular during the evening. It is worth to walk in.

We arrived at the park just as the parade of bikes took off through the streets. Great area for gathering and having fun or just to have a family picnic.

well maintain the grounds are secure a guard or Tempe parks officer around timely

Drove all the way down on a hot evening to be told by an angry teenage girl that I cant rent a canoe because they are closing at 8. It was 6:50! Guess she had a date.

Ride your bike along the canal paths or on the Greenway from the north. Circle the lake on a paved path, including a bridge for walkers/bikers on the west side of the lake. Many watercraft on the lake, including paddle boats and rowers. On the south side of the lake, east of ASU, visit the Mill Street District with many viable lunch options.

I've been here for concerts, and for a city sponsored 4th of July celebration. Awesome park and small lake. Really good paved trail around the lake. Kayak rentals. I spend time in Tempe on business and noticed most things happen on or near the Tempe Beach Park.

Let me start by saying I love this place and I bike ride walk and fish Here all the time. or at least I used to. over the last two years the homeless problem has gotten ridiculous there is an encampment at the spillway end of the lake that is huge And there are no bathrooms for these people so guess where that stuff is going yes into the lake Soon as the monsoon season starts all of it will flow into the lake along with the garbage that is created by this camp. The pictures I left only show one small piece of the homeless encampment It goes on for a 1/2 mile. It was terrible,,, garbage everywhere It is important to note that this area is not in plain view of the general public But the general public We'll see the effects When water starts to flow in from the spillway yuck. Come on City of Tempe This is a health concern for the lake

It's interesting to find this delightful park along the edge of a large urban area and college. This is a lovely park along Tempe Town Lake. There are nice paved walkways and lots of picnic areas and clean restrooms. There is also a large and very nice splash park for children.
A nice walkway all along the beach lets you wander along beside the water where many new buildings are popping up to the east or wander to the west down to the Tempe Center for the Arts.
There are boats there for rent and we saw two girls paddle boarding. Yet you are only a few blocks from the shops and restaurants on Mill St.

The place is so clean and I felt safe. People being active with biking, running, walking, paddle boarding, etc. I also saw people having a picnic and others fishing. Great place for people watching, relaxing, or being active.

I have to eat my words. I was a Tempe resident who mocked Tempe Town Lake when they first built it. It took a few years to work out all the bugs, but now it's a nice place to go for a stroll, whether with the family or out on a date. I've been there for a few events too. It's become my favorite place to go for a concert. I like open air concerts and it's very transit friendly. It's also one of the best places in town to catch Pokemon. It attracts a large number of players, so you have a shot at the rare ones. I've not tried the paddleboats but they look like a lot of fun.

A great place to spend a day with family in friends. The Tempe Beach Park boat rental is affordable and something different to do from a normal park. Be aware there is not a traditonal playground for childern which is a bit of a bummer but, there is plenty of bike paths, open grassy areas and sand volleyball courts. The park also hosts many different events through out the year that allows you to enjoy. The 9/11 memorial event is a must see.

We came here for Oktoberfest. The festival wasn't what we expected, but the park was great. We ended up sitting by the river for most of the night, which was relaxing w/ a drink.

I went to this park for a dog walk event and the place is a great place to stop and walk, bike, run and walk your dog. You can jog along the water and there are several places to stop and sit. It's close to Tempe's art district with some great restaurants and bars. Easy light rail access too.

we just moved to arizona in 2011. needless to say, moving from an area where you are surrounded by the great lakes to the desert is a big change. when we found tempe beach park we weren't sure what to expect. we headed out there and were delighted to see a beautiful park with water! it has a wonderful walking route that you can walk, bike, skate, run etc... there is a childrens palyground, a little booth to get drinks, ice cream, chips etc... you can also rent paddle boats, canoes, boats etc...to have fun on the water with. we loved it there and spent all afternoon.
i will warn you though that there is no beach. what they call a beach is on the other side of the water-way which you can get to by walking over the bridge. the term beach is relative as you cannot swim in the water(you can fish), and people are not basking in the sun on the sand. the little sand you do find in mixed with rocks.
other than that little downfall its very nice and tempe certainly keeps it up

Sunny breezy walk around the lake one February morning. Stopped along the way at the Tempe Arts Center to investigate for a future event night and found a gallery to visit. Along with a host of events to enjoy at a later date. COntinued across the pedestrian bridge to the other side walking full circle by crossing another shared pedestrian/auto bridge back to downtown Tempe. Be sure to check out the art along the trail as review the interesting info and history on display about the dam. Rental bikes/kayaks and more are available along the shore.

We Love to bike around the lake!!!, great vibe here, walk your dog, your stroller, cycle, roller blade, kayak, etc, you can ride for hours along connecting trails.
Check out the new “ Bike It” website for more info on how to get around,
No bike now problem, you can rent through bike sharing apps like Lime
Enjoy!!!

Full disclosure here, Tempe Beach Park is most enjoyable again when the weather is not in its severe form of torture which is 100 degrees and above. However if you are fortunate to be in Arizona during the cooler months this little gem right in the heart of the major metropolitan cities offers a wide assortment of natural beauty , man-made structures , wonderful rich history , and people watching. The beach park is located relatively close to the major university so you might run into some crowds here and there but most are very polite and offer an insight into what's hip and trendy should one be away from the college scene for a while. While this might not be a whole day trip, you could certainly spend half an afternoon at the beach park and then wander further uptown into Tempe for more college experiences since you won't find it hard to find a bar or club around those parts. Check out the pride of all lakes in the Phoenix area and see Tempe Beach Park. Always bring water and sunscreen even in the cooler months and try using the light rail system which takes you right to the park. happy visits.

Excellent place for an evening stroll. Located on the south shore of the Salt River, it stretches from the Tempe Center for the Arts in the west to Mill Ave in the east. Stand along the pedestrian-only bridge and watch the stream of airliners disappearing into the sunset as they land at Phoenix Sky Harbor airport. Walk east and admire the whimsical flashing array of LEDs adorning the rail bridge. Or just sit in one of the benches and watch the people float by in kayaks. The US Airways headquarters is situated on the eastern end of the park and the ASU campus is not that much further. We'll make plans to rent one of those kayaks the next time we're in town.

Paddle boats and more great for a break from spring training. You have to look hard for the free parking. We parked in a public parking garage and had to pay.

Visited during the last day of Pot of gold festival. The park has a lot of space for the concert goes. Try to get early if your attending a concert, so you can get a good spot. If you are planning on getting a shirt of the event, I suggested to get it at the end of the concert because usually the prices drop. If you get caught in the middle of the mosh pit, don't freak out, and move as fast as you can to the back. Bring enough cash for beverages or food.

Nice easy rental of stand up paddle boards. Son (18) and daughter (13) both enjoyed it. Pleasant way to spend an afternoon.

The Salt River was a dry wash for the previous 50 years. Then after a couple of hundred-year floods in a row - someone got the idea that possibly "river" and "water" might go together. It isn't large - does offer boat rides and fishing. In short - It's all we've got - in a hot desert. So Enjoy.

This is a great place for a stroll or jog. You can rent boats or just sit and soak up the sun. However, if you need a restroom you won’t find one here! Is this a way to keep homeless out of the area or just an oversight?

I was here during the Iron man to help support my friends who were participating. It was really pretty and they have a great park for kids. I had two little ones with me who did not care too much to watch the race, so it was great to have somewhere to take them. The path around the park was really well made and it was very clean despite having thousands of people walking through from the race. Same thing with the bathrooms, clean and supplied.

It is strange to find a lake in the desert but Tempe has pulled it off. It is a nice park for a stroll. You can rent scooters and boats. There are a lot of dead fish in the lake and 10 of 12 restrooms are out of order due to vandalism. These two points cut the score.

We rented paddle boats from Boat Rentals of American and it was great fun! $35/hour was reasonable and fit four people! They do have some fun looking donut boats that are motorized but they were sold out for the day. Look to make a reservation online they said!

It's a place to walk to. It might be nice at night. It's not really a beach. It could use more seating and shade.

Aside from the great views and great weather. It was nice to take get adventurous and have options for paddleboats, kayaks, paddleboard ect. The lake is not to swim but if you have good balance, I highly recommend paddle boarding!

This is a great place so close to the city and university. So much going on during the day, evening, and especially weekends.

Tempe Town Lake is a nice place to stroll along the lake and view the beautiful Arizona sunset. Parking is a bit tricky but once you get there it's worth it. The avenues are broad and there are picnic areas and seats along the way. It isn't too crowded. You can rent paddle boats. We walked to the foot bridge and back.

I went to this park twice: once it was a during daylight, the other to contemplate the Tempe Boat Parade. During the day you can see it's a nice park to walk/jog or even have a picnic. During the Boat Parade it really was cold and very crowded, but very nice to see so many people there to see the illuminated boats to festives.
The only thing it's a little annoying is the fact that the park is in the runway to the airport! You can see a plane in the sky every minute!

Ugh.....the only desirable portion of the Tempe town lake, is North east of the concrete monolith, upriver of the un-natural, unattractive"Bureaucrats monument to" urban restrictive architecture" & human control...beginning.under the 202 freeway bridge, running North East, into the undisturbed indigenous Sonoran Desert transition plant species that draw in a" myriad "of wildlife and natural beauty for all people to admire as the only example of Arizonan Riparian life left intown.
in the ignored upriver portion of the lake backwater, you can see Snowy Egrets Great Egrets, ,mallard, red Head and Pintail ducks, Great Blue Herons,Green Herons, American Bittern, NeoTropic Cormorants, White Pelicans, Brown Pelicans, grebes, sandpipers, rails, Osprey Golden Eagles, 12 varieties of buteo hawks and acipiter falcons, hundreds of migratory birds and our Sonoran indigenous birds as well.
Problem is, you cant get at it.
The Tempe Town lake however is DEVOID of ALL ANIMAL LIFE EXCEPT THE URBAN HUMAN VISITORS LOOKING FOR A PARTY, A WALK ON A NEW SIDEWALK, A COMMON HOLIDAY CELEBRATION OR FIREWORKS.
LOTS OF COPS THOUGH....CRIME MUST BE A PROBLEM.
WE WOULD NEVER EVER GO THERE FOR ANY REASON.
THE ICE CUBE COLD GLASS HIGH RISE BUILDINGS TOWERING OVER THE URBAN CONTROL ZONE ARE REMINISCENT OF THE CHICAGO RIVER OR ANOTHER FOREIGN EASTERN CITY. WAY TO GO GUYS.....WE COULD NEVER TELL WE WERE IN THE DESERT AT ALL.....HAHAHAHAHA ITS AN EYESORE UNLESS YOU'VE GROWN UP ON CONCRETE ASPHALT, CARPET AND TILE AND HAVE NEVER TOUCHED DIRT.
FOR THOSE CITY CONTAINMENT-ALTERNATIVE REALITY-DOWNTOWN-OPPOSED LIFESTYLE TO THE NATURAL WORLD.... ENTHUSIASTS.......YOU'LL FEEL RIGHT AT HOME

When there are festivals, it is a great venue. Aside from that there really isn't much other than biking along the path. The boat cruises are long gone.

We used to visit this place often in the late evening during our stay in Pune. It felt nice to walk beside the lake even on those warm evenings. It was favorite among the children also as they got enough space to run.

This place is beautiful at night. If you're looking to escape the craziness of town, head out to the lake and enjoy the lights from the bridge and the calmness of the lake

I saw Flogging Molly here for St. Patricks day, and if that wasn't perfect enough for the Holiday this venue is gave me sensory overload. I'm used to seeing scenic amphitheaters and this one definitely didn't stray from the bunch. I'd for sure see a show here again.

Take the family for a day and rent an electric boat, a paddle boat, sail boat...sit and relax stare at the water, have a picnic, enjoy the water park in the summer, catch some rays. Concerts in the park from time to time. Just a unique venue for fun days anytime alone or with the family!

This is a good place for recreation to either walk, jog, bike or boat. There are benches for sitting along the route. Nice and peaceful.

Love going down to the "lake".
It is great during the day for walking, boating (can rent paddle boats, etc), and sitting and people watching.
It is beautiful at night with all the lights reflecting off the water. We like to go and watch the planes going over from Sky Harbor, we even got the phone app that tells you where the planes are coming from/going.
Also a nice place to go to get away from the crowds during events on Mill.

A bit of a misnomer calling it a beach, but the park is nice and clean with great wide paved area to walk alongside the lake, take in the bridges and art center and then stroll back into town. If you are staying downtown this is a must to see, and a lot easier walk than Tempe Butte!
Walk west towards the art center and see the dam and the tiny Salt River at the far end.

Great place for a run if you enjoy walking or running this place has it's charm! What I don't like is your in the path way of incoming flights flying in to Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix. It can get pretty loud between monday thru fridays from 10am-4pm.
In the late afternoon to evening is the best time for your walk or run.

From its almost weekly events to its magnet for great real estate, the City of Tempe has created liquid gold with their Lake. Probably the best part though is that you walk, run, bike or paddle for miles and not be affected by traffic, streets, etc.

This is the only place that I go for a run while I am in town. Depending on the route you take, you can have run lengths of roughly 3.15, 3.75 or 5.65 miles per loop. After you determine your preferred route, you can add additional loops as necessary to reach your goal for the day. There are some elevation changes which add to the difficulty if you so choose (along the south side of the route between Mill and Scottsdale Road). The route is safe, lit, no road crossings and an absolute beautiful view of Tempe and the associated lake. I love it and recommend it to everyone I know that enjoys running or even walking.

A friend and I discovered this on a walk and discovered lots of great photo opportunities! No real beach but there was water and families seemed to enjoy the area.

So much fun! Probably my favorite attraction in all of Tempe. There was a great boat rental place with tons of kid friendly options. Made my trip completely worth while!

besides being a lovely park near water in the desert, there are activities like paddle boats and rowing so you can get onto the water, then go eat at Monte's without having to get in your car

This lake was very close to the hotel my family and I were staying. When we arrived we saw a little electric boat on the water so I thought, neat they give boat rides, but they do not. You can rent your own electric boat (the 2 they had were taken for the day), pedal boat, kayak, bike, or stand up paddle board. I believe the prices were reasonable , about $25/hr. There is no swimming at this lake. Very nice area, would be more convenient for tourists to offer a boat ride instead of having to rent one.

Get o the water and see the lake from another perspective. In all the years I have lived here I have only paddle boarded the water to the east side. I finally got to experience the West sideof the town lake on "Daffy" Duck the peddal boat. We did 1 hour for $40. It was a kot of fun We got lucky wiht the weather and the time we hit the water was perfect (5 pm) tempe Town Lake has so much to offer. Wide cement walkways perfect for runners, walkers even Tik Tok dance teams. lots of action going on here. The bathrooms are kinds sketchy tho. Highly recommend the park for a variety of moments, dates, and events. Definetly do the boats or Paddleboards. The variety of scenery and vintages of the bridges is a very cool thing for architecture buffs and photographers

Loved the festival here. The park was gorgeous and we were able to view a stunning sunset while the bands played- loved it!

This is a great in-town getaway and easy to get to, with parking readily available. The amazing manmade lake offers a gorgeous view and cool air with just a touch of ocean beach aroma. Rocky Papago Park and the zoo are visible north of the lake. The park is a walker's/biker's paradise with many details and small decorations that make it inviting as well as practical. There are water fountains along the waterside path, shade trees and enough elevation here and there to help build your wind. That's a godsend for walkers in Tempe, which is pretty much totally flat except for the daunting Tempe Butte. There are boat rentals and plenty of activity on the water for those who are inclined. Visitors from out of town should note that it can easily get up to 110F here in the summer, so if that's when you're coming it would be best to visit at dawn, dusk or evening. In cooler weather, you can cross the pedestrian bridge and explore the north side of the lake, walk over to adjacent downtown Tempe for a meal, cool drink or shopping, or even catch an event at the Tempe Center for the Arts at the west end of the lakeside path. This park is another reason to be thankful to live in Tempe.

It's so pretty at night. You have city lights and the bridge, train tracks. It's a great place to walk or go running. We usually go for walks at night to relax.

The park was expansive and filled with beautiful landscape and a little splash park for the kids (the water had not been turned on yet though). We spent our time kayaking on Town Lake for two hours and had a blast.

We could not make it during the day time so night time was the choice. A lazy walk along the bridge admist blowing cool breeze is an enjoyable experience. The colored lights and their reflection in the lake water is a pleasant sight.

Excellent running course.
The Marina was a new discovery.
Several ways to enjoy the lake, i.e., Kayaking, SUP and etc.

Two days of pure walking up and down both sides of the lakes. It was a little chilly on a January morning but we warmed up quickly. The pedestrian bridge near the new dam is really neat. Check out the various bridges so you can walk BACK over the lake to the south shore. Be prepared for almost non-stop jet noise because the jets in and out of Sky Harbor Phoenix airport fly right over the lake. It wasn't too bad but if you're expecting a nice, peaceful, quiet walk, you will be disappointed. And, very few bathrooms! Beauitful office buildings, apartments, condos, etc. Lots of new construction.

Sure it's man-made but it's a lovely place to go running or biking, or whatever hobby you enjoy. When the weather is nice, it's fun to pack a picnic and catch some rays!

Great place for a picnic and bike rides/rollerblading with your family if the weather is nice. Bring a blanket, food and have loads of fun!

We went to the festival of lights for the first time. I was so disappointed with how it went. No directions, not sure if we needed chairs, I was the only one who actually got to see some of the boats due to everyone just standing in tight quarters. We waited 30 minutes to even move out of the parking lot. Eat before you go!!!! Never again.

I live by Tempe Beach Park and take advantage of the excellent paths on both sides of the lake to ride my bike. Nice easy ride, just look out for the pedestrians, especially those idiots with earbuds stuck in their heads. The paths also link up with bike trails that can take to other parts of the area as a destination like down town Scottsdale or just for a nice long ride along the green belt
If you're visiting the area this is a good place to amble about before or after dinner (plenty of places to eat at on Mill Ave close by). There is also a water park in the the hotter months for the little kids to cool off.
The only problem I have is the frequent events hosted at the park although this may be why you are going. Still, all in all, nice place,

lively if there are events--pleasant walking area when weather is nice--as it often is

Great place for the St. Patty Day concert. Flogging Molly was great. I will go back next year for sure!!! Only problem is once you go into the concert you can't leave.

Perfect location for a relaxing stroll on a beautiful day. Lots of people walking, pets and water sports. Liked all the bridges and airplane spotting. Great view of downtown in the distant.

Saw this area on the way to dinner one night. It is a beautiful urban "river"walk with bicycles, dog walkers, picnic goers, boat and paddle board rentals. It is adjacent to the Tempe Fine Arts Center and financial district. Well done pathway winds next to the water with views of picturesque bridges. Clean and safe.

We saw this on Trip Advisor and tried it for a morning walk. NIce trails along the water, well paved and wide.
Pretty flat so you can get lots of steps in without maximum exertion.

When they say it's in the desert, they aren't kidding! Easy to get to and convenient parking. Disappointed that due to ASU homecoming they wanted to charge $10 when we had to drop our bikes off on Sat for the Sun race. We found parking meters for less a short walk away in the business park. Nice grassy areas, and a beautiful area for a race day swim. Great views.

We biked here and had a good time. The paved trail is great. Fun to watch the birds on the water.
Boat rentals are available. Very relaxing!

Its great that this was developed but it definitely needs more water activities. I get why you aren't allowed in the water but not being able to enjoy it more when it is 110 degrees out is just plain nuts. No wonder hardly anyone was there. Its like sending the kids to the pool and telling them they cant go in it.

Nice place to walk and enjoy company if loved one!! We spent an hour here and also climbed mountain nearby!

this is a fun , and pretty place to take your bike and go for a ride. There are always people out kayaking and SUP boarding etc. it is safe and clean

If you can beat the heat this is a great place to spend your day there is so much to see and do with one of the hugest art centers in az there also places for drinks and food it's a super cool place to see

I was in town for a conference and walked here from my hotel on the last day. It was a nice peaceful walk, and it was interesting to walk over the bridge where the dam stops below.

This place just keeps getting better! Spacious, clean, safe, great water activities for the kids and those who want to get on the lake.

Nice park for concerts and events. Parking is limited, so carpool or park off-site for large events. Tons of different events to check out. We have attended a few concerts here, and always a fun time! Plenty of seating and shade around the lake. Perfect for picnics and family events. Dog friendly (outside special events) park for a relaxing stroll around the park & lake.

Love to walk here with my dog. Very pleasant early in the morning.

I am staying near here for the winter and I love all of the activity going on here. Walking, running, biking (they can be obnoxious...like its a race or something) & scooters. On the lake there are paddle boards, pedal boats and rowing. Currently there are so many pelicans to watch, It is great to see people outside getting sunshine and exercise. It is in the flight path so many planes overhead.

This is the #2 most visited attraction in Arizona, behind only the Grand Canyon, and that's for a good reason. Basically, every weekend some event is going on. Typically music, some sort of sporting event, or beer/food event. If you are looking for something with a bunch of people in Tempe on a Friday night or Saturday afternoon, there is a really good chance you can find it here. There are always people jogging around the lake.

Imagine that a beach in Arizona. There is a lot of activity even during the week. A great place to go bike, skate, or just hang out.

Friendly place & parking was easy too. We were able to catch a gorgeous sunset. The only negative is that the bathrooms were disgusting, totally unusable! Yuk!!

They should really invest into cleaning the water. What a waste to not be able to swim here. The water quality is absolutely terrible. I rowed crew here and several of my team ended up with blood poisoning from putting their hands in the water to ease blisters.

Went to Tempe, AZ for this show on Halloween. Everything was fine but my only complaint would be that they let people smoke cigarettes inside. So nasty to inhale second-hand smoke for a few hours. Ban them as a deterrent so people would have to sneak them in instead of just letting everyone smoke.

We came as a bunch of rowers from Boulder, CO to Row in the Desert Sprints Regatta. Our Masters races are not even until tomorrow but the practice sessions made possible by the Town Lake Parks & Rec staff in addition to the Xavier Boathouse people has made this an amazing weekend for those of us from CO. A brief respite from chilly temp’s, frozen water and a chance to get on the water as a team to Row is heaven. What a great venue for a crew team.

We traveled to Tempe for the annual Monster Mash Music Festival located at Tempe Beach Park. Saturday night was sold out. Over 30,000 people were there. Kind of cramped inside the park with that many people. The headline act was Tool. Their only concert in 2015 so we met people from all over North America.
There was some slight renovations happening in some areas of the park which bottle-necked people getting to/from the food court area.
Overall good concert experience despite the questionable views that I read. It is hard to find good spots to see the show where there are lots of people there.
Bottled water around $3.
They had free water in big buffalo tanks.
Beer was $8 or $9 but I was not drinking.
All types of cuisine to choose from.
Vendor based concessions.
-Jason

Swimming is not allowed but there are various boats, kayaks and paddle boards for rent - somewhat speedy though. Great place to walk and close to town restaurants. Might be a little warm on a mid-summer afternoon.

We were bike riding around Tempe Town Lake when we got to talking to Matt, the manager of Tempe Boat Rentals. We have never paddle boarded, a little apprehensive. Matt said just try it , it's not that hard. He was Very enthusiastic to say the least. So we did it for a bit and it was great! Super guys, very helpful, It' a must do in Tempe!

you can rent boats and there is a place marked off for swimming (when the water is ok, but they will post that)... it's pretty and nice, but do not expect a CA or FL beach... not even close...

it was very sad to see so many homeless people living under the trees, here, especially in the 110 degree heat. shelter would be so much more humane.
it is a beautiful park, though

Great place for to walk, run, and bike. Always bustling with activity.

We had some out-of-state visitors with us, and coming to Tempe Town Lake was a really good way to get outside and spend some time together.
Weather was perfect!

We were here for a Heart Walk in 2012. The beach area was full of vendors and health related booths- but the area was quite beautiful. I hear they have paddle boat and kayak rentals. Lots of walkers, joggers and cyclists come through here on the paved pathways and bridges. Lots of ducks and birds too. Nice and relaxing area.

Came here for the 9/11 heroes run sept 2016. The race was great! The park just seems to be alittle park next to the water were you can just hang out and relax. Nothing to write home about.

We rode the light rail to Tempe. it was an easy trip. Walked Mill street and headed to Tempe Beach Park. The park is beautiful with a great walking trail. We rented a peddle boat for an hour. We had a nice cruise on the lake. The water is green with algae and I feared for the health of the kids paddle boarding since they were in the water. Visit the park but I would NOT swim.

We had a blast on the paddle boards, we liked how clean the park was, and we enjoyed the walking trail on the side of the lake. Next time, we will bring our bikes! We didn't like the very small parking lot!

Right next to the river, offering great views and access to the bicycle and pedestrian path. Nice benches to sit and soak up the view.

We go here every time we're in Tempe as it is a super easy to do walk. You can go short or long and walking next to the water is relaxing. Never crowded and easy walking.

We had a wonderful time at Tempe town Lake. We have biked around the lake and also boated on the lake. A great place to relax. It is also close to all the restaurants on Mill Avenue. A great place for family and friends!

We thought there should have been more security, due to the mass of concert-goers in line. That was the theme of the night, waiting in line. The bathrooms and vendors were in one area, separated by a small, fenced in stairway. Every time you wanted a drink or to go to the bathroom, it was get in line to get up or down the stairs. Getting out of the concert was a trick, as we had to shuffle out in a mob.

This is a lovely city park with places to walk your dog and see kayaks on the river. It is only a couple of years old and very well maintained.

This park has lots of space, sand volleyball, boat and paddle-board rentals, an arts center, frequent festivals and events, and great walking paths. The only negative is that access to the actual lake is really limited (no swimming and I'm not sure if you can bring your own non-motorized kayaks, canoes, etc.).

Boats were clean and worked well. Beautiful buildings and landscaping. Enjoyed family and friends and amazing weather!
Really expected more dead fish though.

This park offers a nice size splash pad which is perfect for little kids. theres not really anything for adults to do unless they have a concert going on. But if you have little kids, this is a great FREE(if your on a budget) place to take them, and let them run wild

If you want to walk, bike, enjoy time with your dog, have some water fun, have a picnic, this is a good option.
It is a good addition to the Tempe area.
When they put it in I had my doubts and when the dam burst a few years ago those doubts continued. But now that they upgraded the bookend dams that make the lake it is really a good destination place.
If you want to enjoy a causal walk or exercise you can certainly do that by the Tempe Town lake.

A cool breeze off the water welcomed us. We enjoyed watching the rented paddle boats and canoes out on the water. The nice bike /.walking path was scenic . There was even a footbridge to cross the water to the other shore. There were facilities .

I pick up my daughter and her service animals at Sky Harbor and take them to Tempe Park so the pups can run. They enjoy this so much more than the bone yard at the airport!

We have spent many days at Tempe Town Lake. We bike, walk and have even rented a kayak. There is a nice path all the way around. Lots of people exercising or picnicking. The is lots of new building being built so it's changing but excited to see what is new. Wish there were more restaurants.

We stumbled upon this little gem while touring the Tempe area. What a wonderful, relaxing place by the river. We went there several times during our trip to walk & enjoy the tranquility. There is a splash area for the kids with sprinklers to keep them cool. We walked all the way from the free parking lot to the end which is about 3-4 miles round trip. I guess they refer to the "beach" as the riverfront since the walkway goes along the river. During the weekday in Oct. & Nov. not too many people were around but come 4:00 the college kids started coming, riding bikes, running & walking. The river has boats that can be rented. We watched a college team practicing on their kayak type boats on the river. There are some trees along the river with benches which made it nice. They are constructing huge office bldgs. along the waterfront. There are also some apartments along the waterfront. When we returned in Nov. on a Sunday, there was a Military drive & event so parking in the garage was free. The walk is easy since it is mostly sand & you can go as far as you want. I thoroughly enjoyed this park & will go back every time I am in the area. One street away is the Mill Ave district where there are all kinds of shops & restaurants & a lively atmosphere.

This is a great gem in the heart of Tempe. There are various festivals that occur throughout the year. We recently visited the Healing fields in commemoration of 9-11. What a beautiful sight to see all the American flags and read stories of fallen citizens. Our children born after 9-11 learned a great deal of this great country's history. There is plenty to do at Tempe Beach Park you can rent paddle boats. It's a lovely place to go for a family picnic too.

Tired of being cooped up in the house with covid 19 hibernating, we decided to go for a drive. We ended up in Tempe Home Lake Park. It was nice to water and see how people were enjoying being outside in mild summer weather, after such a hot summer. Folks were walking dogs, renting paddle boards along with dragon and swan pedal crafts. This is a scenic place...a place to spend some peaceful time.

Sandy beach like area, pleasant to watch the college women play beach ball..... reminds you of a beach town yet stuck right in the middle of a dessert...... kind of nice considering the blazing summer heat in the cooler months of feb and march..... nice place to relax..... highly recommended for families, solo travelers.... or simple explorers.....

Have been here multiple times and mostly during evenings n nights. Nice & safe during nights too when there are not many people around. Have done the paddle boats too and it was tiring if you are not used to it. The lights on the bridge and around the lakes makes it beautiful as hey change the colors and with the plane flying above towards the airport is also a good view. Then there are the restaurants & pubs at walking distance on Mills Avenue. If interested in a short hike then the Hayden-Butte "A" mountain is nearby.

Nice area. Too bad the city has allowed the homeless to take it over. Be prepared for one to approach, claim to be a veteran, and ask for money.

Enjoyed this park today taking a long walk along the canal. Great breeze & enjoyed watching the people kayaking. Kayaks can be rented very reasonably. Bathroom facilities available as is a park area for small children.

It is great to see some water in Phoenix and the walking path is really nice. We enjoyed people watching and just sitting in the sun.

What a great attraction. Something for everyone!! Great physical location within 5 minutes walking distance of downtown Tempe shopping, bars and restaurants. Light rail one minute walk. Miles of walking and bicycle trails around Tempe Town Lake. Venue for festivals and celebrations. Safe for families. Lots of grass and great people watching.

If you need a break from work and relax your mind walking in this beach park is the best option. I like to go there whenever I am stressed and just watch the lake, people and pets. The park is clean, well maintained and very well located.

Worth a wonder around if you are staying in the area. Not a lot of shade, so early morning or late afternoon would be the best times.

Saturday December 13th from 5:00 on, there is a festival at the beach. Starting around 6:30, over 60 boats, all decorated for the holidays with lights and Christmas figures (Santa, Rudolph, etc.), parade around the edge of the beach. Afterward, a spectacular fireworks display goes on. Also, during this time, different groups play holiday music. Luminaries surround the sidewalks. A very festive evening.

This is the best part of Tempe in my view. At nights, the lights are multi-colored on the bridge and in the right time of year sunsets are nice over the lake. Good walking paths, but tight parking is usually an issue. Just park by the Arts center if its crowded and lots of events jam the park in the pleaant montghs, so check calender. Good place to reflect and check out the cute ASU students jogging.

I've been to Tempe Beach Park for family celebrations as well as for numerous charity walks. It's kind of a baffling place, really. The restrooms are nearly always locked. There are few benches or picnic tables from which to enjoy the view of the water. For a park in the desert, there is remarkably little shade and few drinking fountains. And I've rarely seen children in the playground.

We were looking to kill some time before our 9 p.m. flight so we stopped by this park. It was fun to see all the locals out getting some exercise and playing. They have paddle boats and kayaks to rent.

Paths along the water provide ample opportunity for exercise (great for running, biking, walking!), alone or for the whole family!
We love this park! Boat rentals including paddle boats or kayaks available, too!

Why is there not a massive beach and swimmable water yet? Great location with a city full of people that would kill for a great weekend on the water and spend, spend, spend!

We are here for the ironman race, so there is lots of nervous energy. This is a great spot near the race to let all 4 kids in our party run around like banshees without worrying about them!

Weather your looking for a day out with the kids or an awseome concert venue for a weekend show. This place fits the bill perfectly.

Easy to access running trails cover miles on both sides of Tempe Lake- gravel trail or paved trail, take your pick. Quiet, scenic, with many areas to stop for a park bench break.

Cool view, nice idea, but it was too crowded and over run with vagrants.

Adjacent to downtown Tempe and near ASU campus, our time at the lake was spent walking and enjoying our time together.

This annual event is fun and festive for anyone who enjoys music, cultural performances, food and beer. Join in with your lederhosen or dirndl!

We love to spend time at our Tempe Town Lake. Best place to watch boat races, walk or participate in sporting activities or festivals.

Nice waterfront trail. You can make a loop out of it by crossing bridges.
Also close to the trolley, and Mill Ave. cafes / restaurants.
There are a few shade trees and shade cloth areas, if you are there in the daytime and need a break from the sun.
And if you want to add a little vertical to your walk, there's a nearby ASU trail that goes up to a rocky overlook.

Unfortunately, the park was under construction when we visited....both the childrens' splash park and the lake itself so we did not see it at its best. However it did look as tho it had the potential to be a lovely place with various things to do once it was completed. We only visited the south side. Plenty parking....once we actually found it and so near to the humdrum of Mill street and ASU.

Although it’s way hot. Great place. Will come back for sunset and another day for paddle boat rental.

If you can get over the incongruous presence of a lake in a desert, you can really enjoy the paths and vistas in this semi-urban park. It's flat and easy for biking and hooks into other trails. The south side is more lively but the north side is fine for riding/walking, etc, and there are restrooms. Bridges allow a circuit ride around the "lake", including a nice pedestrian bridge roughly in the middle. On the south, you can continue onto Mill Avenue with cheap eats and other ASU-focussed activities. The lake is currently undergoing some re-construction, so there's no boating but there is water in it. Not a sensitive use of water in a desert, but then, that's the Phoenix way, pretend the water will last forever.

This was my first trip to Arizona. I went to see the person I’ve been taking to for a while. He was so excited to show me the lights at night and the area. Well it was nothing more then amazing. I fell in love with the area and also may possibly be making big changes as I also don’t like the cold weather where I’m from.

they have a good splash pad. a partial bridge that used to be ash ave bridge. lots of lawn area and good to sight see

Stuff for adults? Stuff for teens? Stuff for children? This place has it all. Walking trails, boat rentals, splash park....something for everyone! Easy to get in and out of and complete year round fun!

Great place to enjoy a walk but I would recommend to come early. Multiple places to park and short walk to Art museum.

My daughter and I did our 5K down here and it was such a beautiful place to walk. The lake was beautiful and it was a very easy walk.

We come here often. Summer time walks after the sun goes down are the best here. While its still hot, at least you are outside in a nice pretty setting. The city of Phoenix could learn a few things from Tempe here. The park surrounds the man made Tempe town lake. There is a path that is great for biking, walking, skate boarding around the whole entire lake. Paths are wide and mostly flat. The south side of the lake is where the bulk of this park is. Grassy areas, benches, winding paths, bridges, parking and boat rental. Apartments and offices over looking the lake and planes flying overhead. There are facilities here so it can be perfect for a picnic or to spend the day outside. Plus, Mill avenue is close for food. Also, lots of events are held here throughout the year. This park has recently become very popular since the release of Pokemon go. Which for me is kind of annoying but I am more happy that more people are outside.

My Family had such a great time on the beach. From walking to seeing all the beautiful buildings in the back drop. There was some sort of festival going on which brought a very nice friendly crowd. My teens really loved taking pictures.

Walking around is easy, great place to take the kids. Nice for couples or pets.

We went to the Innings festival in this beauty of a park. The shows were as amazing as the view. will visit again

My daughter and I took a walk around Tempe Town Lake with some friends of hers. It is a fairly long walk to go all the way around, but there are benches along the way where one can stop and rest if needed. Don't forget to bring a bottle of water for your walk/hike so you can stay hydrated!

Walked here from my hotel early in the morning and took some nice sunrise pictures. The bridge(s) also provide some good photos! Very quiet early in the morning. Lots of families later in the day using the splash park, etc. Didn't try it out but they have kayaks and paddleboards that you can rent as well.

Tempe beach park is a great place to walk, run or do any kind of exercise if you like to. This park has nice scenery of the tall hotel & businesses along the water front which is awesome.

Not terribly exciting but nice. My kids enjoyed the walk across the bridge. Nice walking place. Mellow place.

Drove in from California to attended the Pot of Gold Festival with my teenage daughter and her friend here March 15. It was a great time! The park itself is medium size with plenty of open space for all the concert goers. Food area was away from the stage with plenty of options. The park is located next to the river. Looks like a very nice place to go with the family for the locals. It has a splash pad for the kids and big restrooms.

Easy access plenty of parking. Waterfront has nice access for running or walking. There is a boat dock if you want to bring your boat.

This is a nice place to take a walk, especially on a warm night. Parking is limited, however, and pedal-boat/equipment rental rates are a bit high.

We love all the festivales and events hosted here. Being close to a body of water while living in the dessert is refreshing.

It was very refreshing to see this park and lake in an urbarn area. They had a number of watercraft from paddle boats to pontoons for rent. But the walking trails were also inviting. On our visit we attended the "Aloha Festival". This was a very lively festival celebrating the polynesian cultures. There was plenty of food drink and merchandise available. They also had performers on three stages. It was obviously very popular and crowded when we visited.

We thought we would spend our last day in Tempe at the Tempe Beach Park. The park itself is nice but based on our map we thought there would be places to relax and lounge around and were excited by the lake aspect. The lake was more like a concrete cannal and you couldn't go in except to paddle boat and the like. There were large dead fish floating everywhere which was gross, not sure what that was all about.

The view of the water is lovely as you walk along the wide, flat, paved path beside the river. The park and its walking paths are reachable by the light rail and are within walking distance of the ASU campus, many shops, restaurants, and hotels. Highly recommended for some fresh air and exercise.

Who expects to find a beach in the desert? That's exactly what you find at Tempe Beach Park - complete with walking paths, place for boating and hiking, picnicking, and more. Great place to spend the day!

There are soooo many events that take place in this park. Concerts, New Year's Eve, Octoberfest, Bicycle Festival water activities- could go on and on for many other events. The promoters always do an excellent job of preparing for large crowds. Great for families as well as going with friends for the more adult evening events. We are so fortunate to have such a facility so close to all of the restaurants, clubs shopping etc. on Mill Ave. The Light Rail is also very convenient ot get to and from the Park. Love it !!!!

Amazing to see the lake: marina, beach, grass, etc. I can see why it is popular. Wonder if it is best use of water but is beautiful to see hrom the freeway and nice to see up close. Must be great for families.

Tempe Town Lake is indeed a great place to visit. So much to do in the area you might nerd a couple of days to get all the action in.
Boat rentals, biking, walking, art and just relaxing are just some of the things to accomplish. I've added just a few pictures to enjoy. Would need an album to really appreciate what is in the area. Don't be timid or shy about getting around and about cause it's well worth the trip.
Today I meet Andrew who was fishing and caught this tiny catfish. Hopefully he gets to view this photo. Thanks for the read, and enjoy your travels.
✌

Another gem at Tempe, just down the Mill Avenue with an artificial lake/stream, large ground and childrens play area. This isnt as big as Kiwani's park but still a good place to wind up after spending time at the crowded Mill Avenue.

There were people enjoying all types of activities - my family and I decided to take a full circuit around the lake with a late evening stroll. There are very easily traveled walking paths and foot bridges for walking, but also plenty of room for rollerblading, skateboarding, biking, etc. Looking back at my phone the circuit we took around the lake was 1.6 miles - very easy to do on a comfortable winter evening of 70 degrees.

I have been to Tempe Beach Park for a couple music festivals and have enjoyed it. Clean, good atmosphere and generally good vibe.

This is a good place to go to attend events. Other then events, there isn't much to do here. You could go fishing or take a boat out there, but the views are not very scenic.

There are paths close to the water to walk, or a path higher that has a lot of bikes, scooters and hoverboards. Peaceful walk that’s probably a mile and a half long. Saw a marina and volleyball courts, and lots of docks to secure boats at.

I was in town for Ironman so I sent a lot of time at the park. very nice venue - great for walking and for the kids to play. Also enjoyed the paddles boat's

Simple put, this is a wonderful area to enjoy a walk, a ride or a skate. If the sidewalk isn't good enough, rent a paddle board, a paddle boat or an electric or sail boat. There are lots of options for a family day out or to get away by yourself. I've even seen people fishing there. When your finished with your activity, there are lots of places nearby for a treat.

I take my kiddos to the splash pad during the warm months, and they love it! There are many features to play on, as well as shaded seating for the parents that don't want to get wet.

Attended Desert Sprints races and really enjoyed this wonderful facility. Beautiful concrete work with public art, walking/running paths wide enough for lots of people. Clean restrooms with warm water, hand soap and hand driers. Very friendly people, gorgeous views.

Nice place for spend some quality time with family or friends. People can do cycling, jogging, walking around the lake side road and bridge.

By the time we made it to the beach park, it was dusk. All of the activities had closed for the day. Being unfamiliar with the city layout, we went around in circles before we found out how to park there. It was still beautiful at dusk and well lit. There were still people in the park. One group was holding a fitness bootcamp. The area was clean for the most part and smelled clean. The bridge was lit up at night and makes a wonderful backdrop for pictures. I would like at go back during the day for activities if I ever return to Arizona.

Beautiful park right in downtown Tempe. Easy to get to from light rail. Nice mountain views, drinking fountains, picnic areas, and wide walking paths. Great sunset vantage point from the bridge by the Tempe Arts Center. It's also very pet friendly.

Great venue for events, nicely laid out next to lake

Tempe Beach Park is nice, but kind of overrated. It always seems dirty and full of trash when we are there. Don't go at night, it's a hot spot for transients and kids looking for trouble. Oh, and there was a murder there in broad daylight not too long ago.

Kudos to Tempe developers for trying to up the ambiance of Tempe with some water in the creative lined "canal" of normally dry Salt "River" flash flood drainage. I hope the precious groundwater loss to evaporation is offset by the ambiance and developer-city dollar return...while it exist. Yes, Virginia, the climate is changing regardless of so many local deniers.

This is a great place to go for walks. Also to meditate. The pedal boats are awesome a good place for a first date.

It is fun to watch the birds and the boaters on the lake. It is a great place to jog or just to walk. Very nicely done and accommodating.

We drove from Illinois to see a concert at Tempe Beach Park. I've gone to outdoor concerts for years in several different places and this was by far the worst experience. The area is flat unlike most outdoor arenas that are bowl shaped. The seats that were there were fenced off and you had to climb over the fence to sit there. This was a sold out show so I don't know why that was. Also as someone else mentioned yes the cigarettes are awful combined with so many people drunk and high stumbling around. So I was unable to see at all and could barely hear the bands because I had to move so far back to try and see. The prices charged for this show was also much higher than most outdoor lawn type tickets. I'm glad I planned a bunch of other stuff to do driving out here because this was the worst part of my whole vacation.

Good little area right next to the water. I am not sure about how well it is coming here during a concert, I have heard it just gets crazy crammed with people and crowded. There is not a lot of roads to move all of the masses, but it is a great place to head to for any other day when there is not an event.

The biggest plus of the park is that parking is free. Seldom you get places in this land where you have privilege to park without paying money!
The bridges across are several and some of them add to the charm of the place. The LRT bridge interior is LED lit which changes several colours and some of the combinations please eyes at night hours!
A leisure stroll along the salt river or park lake relaxes the nerves and day's stress!

Walk this trail at night, when it isn't so hot.
There are boats for rental and plenty of other things to do in the area.
Parking is a nightmare, but getting to the beach is worth it.

Nice park to take a stroll. I would recommend in the mornings when the temperatures reach 100s. The park is clean. There are paddle boats. The park also has festivals at times.

Located along the Salt River (at this point they call it a "lake") this area has long paved paths that are used by walkers, bikers, etc. Note: virtually no shade. Limited free parking to north of Mill Street bridge that fills up early...paid lots available in area as well. Often there are festivals in the park on the south side of river. Mill Street eateries and bars are in immediate vicinity and are very popular. Very near ASU.

Now that the temperature is below 100 degrees I had a couple of wonderful walks down to the Cultural/Theatre complex and to the McClintock Bridge at the other end. Lots of seats to have a rest and apart from the freeway across the lake, very peaceful. A great place to go and meditate/scheme.

Tempe Beach Park, part of the larger Tempe Town Lake, is a MUST SEE in Phoenix, AZ. Tempe Beach Park offers cycling, paddle boarding, boating, running, a playground, special events, access to Mill Avenue, places to meet with friends, and so much more. Tempe Beach Park offers stunning views of Tempe Town Lake and is one of my favorite places in greater Phoenix!

Great place to catch a festival/concert, plenty of room and great places to sit back if you do not want to be part of the debauchery that is right in front of stages. Good food and plenty of selections on food types.

There are lovely paths around Tempe Lake that are wonderful for exercise of all kinds. You see people walking, running, biking and just strolling and enjoying the sites around the lake. There is a bridge that spans the dam that is being built and it is fun to stop and watch the dam being built. There are plenty of grassy areas to play games or have a picnic. There are many varied events held at the park. This is one place that I love to go for exercise or take family to. Just a great out of doors place to visit, exercise at, or relax and look at the lake. At one end of the lake you can watch sail boats launch and watch people sailing or take your own boat out on the lake! At the other end there is an Art Center that has free art displays that change periodically. Always fun to check this out and see what art they have on display.

A great way to spend a day strolling along the water. Nice wide sidewalks. We walked along the canal, crossed over the pedestrian bridge, back the other side. You can extend the distance a lot farther if you want.

Easy access from light rail and Mill Ave.. Close by to lots of cool funky shops and trendy food stops and / or bars. Tres chic

a good place for a FAMILY picnic and events are held there once in a while. good place for walking and just sitting on the benches and relaxing and watching the water.

Have visited Tempe Beach Park on several different occasions and during all four seasons for concerts, fairs, dog walks and marathons.
Always well-kept!
Small waterpark for the kids and Fido, great views of Tempe Town Lake.

We went at sunset and the views were lovely. The walking path runs next to the lake and crosses the other side via a footbridge at the far west end of the lake. Many people around doing all kinds of activities on the path and in the park area. There are rentals to take paddle boats or kayaks out on the lake, but we didn't do that. We walked the path and enjoyed the views.

The homeless population have taken over the south side of the lake. Bathrooms are constantly locked with homeless sleeping or hiding inside. Drinking fountains are being used as baths. My family and I tried to use the shade and picnic tables but they were overrun with homeless people repairing their bikes, sleeping and damaging the tables. City won’t do anything about them as their every day. They even bath in the fountain next to the arts center.

my walk in the sun at Tempe beach park was lovely . I thought I was at Venice beach in ca : j"m joking but it is the best next thing with the long bike trails and fishing and boating and canoeing along with games and sun splash for the kids i do recommend this for the whole family .

Stunning view of the Lake with a backdrop of Sun Devil Stadium tucked in next to Haydens Butte. Always stuff to do. Roller blading, running, kayaking, horse stables, Art Center, Vollyball, Frisbee golf, Mill Avenue shopping and eating. Everything You need.

It is a really nice place , not really a beach but you can walk or bike along the Salt River. There is always something to watch like rokers or peddlers. Plenty places to sit and to picknick.

This is a nice park that borders Tempe Town Lake. Lots of space to walk, run, ride your bike and soak up the atmosphere. The one clarification is, it is NOT a beach where you can actually jump in the water. It also depends on the time of day and activities that are going on in town, that will make the park come alive with excitement.

A great Tempe asset. I have been going there since it was built, generally biking there and around the lake. I have done many events there from Triathlons, 10k's, and recently visited the 911 flag memorium. The Art center and bridge are also a great addition. A great place to just walk and enjoy the outdoors and close to Mill Ave for a bite to eat.

We should of checked to see if there would be any services open in the area. It was a let down.

Very relaxing avid peaceful! Definitely a good place to just enjoy the fresh air and get your thoughts together!

Nothing really to do much besides run/walk around the lake. They have built a lot around the lake taking a bit of the nature-feel away as it is in the middle of Tempe and Phx. But nice to walk around if you like to exercise outside.

Park looks fairly modern and right on the river. Pot of Gold Music Festival held here in March with lots of bands and nearby restaurants.

Visited here today. Car park very small but eventually got parking. Had our 3 year old on his bicycle but had to stop him from going onto the main road (which is beside playground) several times. Playground was poor. It consisted of 1 slide which the kids got bored with quickly. A nice place for couples to walk but not for kids as not enough in it to keep them occupied.

Nice place to take a walk, ride your bike or just enjoy a picnic. Nice place to watch the sunset. Its close and convenient. Clean and safe.

Walked though the park in the evening and it was a relaxing and peaceful stroll. Nice views of the bridge as the sun goes down behind it. Stayed at the AC Marriott which made it easy to walk along the river to the park in the morning. Also had the race after party there. Looked to be other recreational activities like boat rentals. It's a good park.

We were tired when we got to our hotel. It was too early to turn in so we went for a walk. This area is a man made Lake that they have gone to efforts to give the feel of nature. We enjoyed it

There is no swimming here . . . so don't expect to if you come. Even SUPing or kayaking is sketchy in this water. The grounds are nice, but there isn't much shade at all and there isn't much to do. The museum that is there was nice, and had some nice features. We saw homeless in the park, nervewrecking, and the bathrooms were far from the walkway.

Good place for a nice little walk or bike ride. They also have swan boats which can be fun in the fall and spring months. Just be aware of occasional run ins with the homeless.

Surprising find in the middle of urban sprawl. Well maintained and near downtown Tempe which offers a large variety of dining experiences.

The lake and beach park exceeded my expectations. The parks was clean and well maintained. The lake itself seemed a bit dirty. I wish i would have had the money to rental a boat.

I was visiting from the uk while on business. My first impression was that there were a lot (and I mean a lot) of homeless people sleeping, drinking and hanging around which made me feel uncomfortable especially when aground decided to follow me until i got to a more populated area and they gave up. I'm sure it is a beautiful place but not for me on this trip.
Great place for a run
During my stay in Tempe I ran several times around Tempe Town Lake. It was well-suited for a run because it was quiet and not very crowded.
