10 of 357 Best Attractions in Louisville

Definitely my favorite place in Louisville any time of year. Don't miss is if you are driving through. It's a great spot for a picnic, to get some fresh air, and stretch your legs.

This is a must see if you are visiting Louisville. Such an amazing site to see especially when it's lit up at dark.

It's not often that a major structure such as this bridge can be repurposed so beautifully. The entrance ramp is aesthetically pleasing and practical. The bridge has been restored nicely and provides wonderful views of downtown. Best of all, it's free!

A beautiful everyone watching the lights change and the river was calm to the reflection was perfect. I want to walk this sometime at night.

Nice walk across the Ohio river with cool view of downtowns Louisville and Jeffersonville. The access to the bridge is limited to pedestrians and cyclists.

We decided to take a river cruise m perfect weather for it as its cooler on the water. We enjoyed seeing thw lights at night. Its very windy and we were outside so we felt very safe with social distancing .

We enjoyed walking the bridge. We ended up choosing the hottest day of the year - 97 degrees but there was a breeze so it was not that bad. It is clean and well maintained. Then spend some time in the park in KY. It is nice.

We walked the bridge to Indiana for brunch.. Really cool idea, round trip is approx 3.5 miles or so.. Great idea, take water for your journey, if day time.. Clean, safe , different thing to do.
Great view of Lville. Beautiful at night. Actually re furbished train bridge

This is a pedestrian bridge that connects downtown Louisville to Jeffersonville, IN. The bridge is located at Waterfront Park which is expansive. There are benches nearby as well as a kids play area.

Walked across the bridge a d read all the information. It was truly interesting. It was really windy, but not too cold. Everything was beautiful. We walked around a little on both sides of the river, finally eating at the Red Yeti in Jeffersonville. Great way to end our day.

We walked the bridge on a cool but sunny day. We were rewarded with beautiful views of Louisville and the River. We were there during the day and there were plenty of people so even if walking alone, I would have felt safe.

We walked from downtown from 21c to the bridge over to Indiana. Chilly morning with sunny skies! Walking to Indiana we were greeted with music midway. I was disappointed that there were no signs on either side saying "Welcome to..." but a great way to start the day, with a quick job, walk, or ride. The parks on the KY side rock!

Recommended to us and so we took a short drive from the hotel, parked and strolled up the curving path onto the bridge. Great piece of history and a lovely way to view the city as well as the working river on your way across the state border into Indiana.
Halfway across the bridge you get some lovely classical music playing out of speakers disguised to look look part of the ironwork bridge.
Well worth an hour or so. In spring or a nice day, there are some lovely swings and seating areas along the riverfront that you can sit and relax.

What a gorgeous park and walk! You must do this if you’re in the area! The teens liked it too. There’s a little ice cream shop in Indiana at the end of the bridge that has picnic tables in the back.

The Big Four Bridge is Amazing!! Great place to take a walk. In fact, if you walk all the way across the Big Four Bridge then you will end up in Indiana. Awesome pedestrian bridge that crosses over the Ohio River. The bridge lights up with various colors at night. Fantastic sight!!

My father from SD LOVES this thing. I think it was one of the best investments our city leaders have ever made. When I was kid this whole area was a rail way junk yard. So pretty at night with the lights.

Th ebig four bridge was very interesting to see and walk across. Great view of downtown Louisville. Be sure and park on the kentucky side of the bridge.

We walked the bridge in the evening and as the lights came on, it was beautiful. It was hard to know were you can park for free.

Beautiful bridge to walk across to Indiana! About a mile across to lovely little town of Jeffersonville . Good place to have lunch on the River .

Perfect place to see the river views while walking for your health. Walking with friends makes exercise fun!!!

What an incredible treat! Such an awesome experience to walk from Kentucky over the Ohio River into Indiana! Independent musicians across the bridge added to a beautiful ambiance! Highly recommend and will be back. Also, the bar on the Indiana side is awesome- open air w great beer selection and friendly service. Bridge offers incredible, romantic views.

A really nice walk on a clear day. The views are amazing and the walk is not overly long. Pretty neat to be able to walk from one state to another. Would recommend parking on the Indiana side - seemed easier and less crowded.

During my stay is Louisville, I took the opportunity to run across the bridge (and back) in the early morning before the sun was up. The entrance to the bridge was lit up nicely and I enjoyed the run (extended to do areas along the river on each side). The bridge (entrance ramp start to entrance ramp finish on the opposite side) is about a mile each way with a very nice view. I am glad I had the chance to do this run and there were a lot of other runners and walkers enjoying the bridge as well.

We enjoyed walking the bridge even though it was raining. Would love to come back with better weather when vendors are out

At the base of the bridge is a playground and walkways along the river. We found that the best time to walk across the bridge is just before sunset for a beautiful view of this and the Louisville skyline. Music plays as you cross over the Indiana state line to explore the area at the bottom of the walkways. When you are headed back after dusk, you will experience beautiful colors as the bridge is lit up.

We stayed in Louisville one night and had a fun time.
Went to the Frazier Museum and I would highly recommend it.
Then went bourbon tasting at Peerless. Our tasting host was informative, cheerful and friendly!
Then we went to dinner at Connor’s Steak house and would highly recommend. We went with friends and we all agreed our meals were fantastic!

Went down to the river...a beautiful evening to walk the bridge. You begin on a graduated cement walk...then the bridge...and ends with another graduated cement walk. We began in KY ... walk over the Ohio River ... and you finish in Indiana ... you have walked two miles round trip! And it’s free!!
We saw a high school graduate getting her photo taken...a couple just engaged getting their photo...and lots of people enjoying the walk.

Fun walk over the Ohio river into Indiana. Only about a mile, easy to do. Great views and some benches if you need a rest. Fun.

As a parent of four children, I love finding ways for them to explore new places and be active. Bonus points if that activity is outside and doesn’t require an admission fee. This bridge was perfect. We walked from Kentucky to Indiana and back. Enjoyed a great view of the city and saw people of all ages and ability levels. The safety fences are reasonably high and the height of the bridge wasn’t overwhelming once you are up there. As a bonus there is a playground near the parking area on River Road just in case the kids have more energy when you finish on the bridge.

We almost didn't make it to walk the bridge. We came up for a spontaneous trip on Memorial Day weekend. We planned to walk the bridge on Saturday afternoon/evening to see the lights of downtown but that was rained out. We were trying to get to the River Road to park and walk the bridge and there was a Hike/Paddle/Bike race happening on the Monday of Memorial Day Weekend. We had a really hard time finding parking near enough the river front but we finally made it - thanks to a couple of police officers who helped direct us. It was really crowded walking from Louisville to Jeffersonville with people who were doing/done the race along with families and tourist enjoying the holiday. We got to the other side of the bridge about 10:45 am. Really nice views from both sides of the bridge. Would be a great spot to visit if you had kids because there is great green space to run on one side of the bridge entrance and then a park & splash pad on the other side of the entrance (both on Louisville side). There are restaurants and shops nearby on the Jeffersonville side. You must be aware of the bike riders - there was alot of them but not sure if that is a normal day or if it was an exception because of the holiday and/or race.

Rode across all the bridges for different perspectives of the Louisville water front. I’m a bridge nut so this was interesting for me. Love the architecture of the bridges.

I was in Louisville for a week for business and found the Big Four Bridge on my first day. I loved it and included it in my run every day.

We enjoyed the crisp, clear fall afternoon by walking across the bridge and back between states. Fall foliage, river views, and sights of downtown Louisville were lovely scenery. Parking was relatively easy in the waterfront park on Silver Street.

I had to walk over this bridge after hearing what people in the hotel were saying about it. The views were absolutely amazing! This is a must whenever in Kentucky.

On a cool night, we took a walk to see the riverfront and walked all the way across to Indiana.. Great date night material

The walk over the bridge is only .5 miles. It is easy to access and the parking lot is free. The bridge is clean and well maintained with a park on either side with restroom facilities.

You will love walking in this area for a night stroll before going to bed. The environment is family friendly, safe and beautiful with the lights across the bridge. I only wish they would allow pets to walk on the bridge, but I understand.

I will admit everything lined up, perfect weather no crowds and helpful locals. The walk across the bridge great.

We walked on this beautiful bridge. This structure is amazing and many locals use it to bike/walk to work or ride across both Louisville and Jeffersonville. Both sides of the bridge have wonderful places to visit and you can take amazing photos from the top of this bridge.

Really cool to walk this bridge. It is a 2km round trip walk from Indiana to Kentucky. They also have bikes or Segways to rent?

Walked from Indiana side to Kentucky side then back. Nice day and awesome view. Just be aware of the cyclists who also uses the bridge, sometimes they cycle so fast as if they're in I-65 and not in the bridge. There were street performers too. Overall this was a perfect stroll on a perfect day !

Great park space and a neat way to see Louisville from a different perspective. It was a little chilly the day we went but still glad we did. The bridge provides a nice walk and a chance to get some fresh air and see downtown Louisville and learn a little about the history of the bridge. Should check it out if you are in town.

Looking on either side of the bridge is beautiful especially at night. And it's a nice little walk. But great experience

Enjoyed walking the waterfront and over the bridge. Beautiful views of the city and barges. Very fun!

Great place for an after dinner stroll - it is about a mile each way. Benches placed along the bridge for those who need a rest. Many opportunities for scenic photos. Several locals using it for biking / running.

This is a great place to walk for exercise or for fun while enjoying the beautiful riverfront view. There are history markers and information along the way and relaxing music as well.

This is a nice way to spend a day or evening. It is an easy walk with a good view of the river fronts. There is plenty to do on each end of the bridge. We rented a little peddle car which was a fun way to tour the water front. My only complaint is there are more and more street performer's and beggers on the bridge which is making it harder and harder to navigate. The police need to do a better job enforcing the rules on bikes and pets. If you are in the area it would be worth your time to check it out.

I love seeing so many bridges close together! I didn’t have time to walk them but I would definitely come back to do so!
There is a couple of places to stop and take photos along the water.
It’s a great impression of Louisville. This was our first time here!

We had never experienced anything like this. Usually, you’re either driving or moving too fast to appreciate the view. It was a slow, calm walk with excellent views and interesting people.

Walking this bridge was so enjoyable, it has lovely views. But the best surprise was on the other side: the small town of Jeffersonville, Indiana. It has a cute downtown with boutiques and a terrific antique shop called Sugar Maples (I drove my car back there the day after my walk and bought some stuff!) The town also has a really fun-looking indoor-outdoor bar and restaurant called Parlour with outdoor games like ping-pong, and fire pits. I wished I had planned it so I could stay longer in the town.

This scenic bridge takes you over the Ohio River from Kentucky to Indiana. It is a nice walk and there is an ice cream shop and lovely restaurant with outdoor seating at the end. Definitely worth the exercise! Parking is available on the Kentucky side.

Fun experience to walk across the bridge and back. You’ll get a lot of steps in but enjoy it so much you won’t notice how many you did! We had great weather too. Lot of great views downtown Louisville and the other bridges nearby. People watching, etc. I’d do it again with the kids!

The bridge is plenty wide for many pedestrians. They allow bikes but no pets. It offers plenty of places to stop and sit for those who need a rest.

Everyone that comes to Louisville must go to The Big Four Bridge!
It's better in a sunny day! It's a good option of entertainment and also to exercise, if you cross to the other side.

The many "big beautiful bridges" over the Ohio River are impressive. We drove over the bridges just to see the river from these bridges.

We walked the bridge during the day as the sun reflected off the water while enjoying the view of downtown . The bridge is kept up and not crowded. We then returned at night to check out the colored lights. It was very impressive.

Louisville is reconnecting to our river roots. This is a walking bridge connecting louisville and Jeffersonville Indiana. The Jeff side is booming with restaurants cafes and shops. The last Wednesday of the month from April to September the Waterfront hosts live music from local and up and coming national acts. Free, food trucks carnival food and beer.

Great way to spend some time enjoying the fresh air and the scenery. Beautifully peaceful, clean and just an enjoyable stroll. Perfect for all; solo/group walk, run or biking.

We sat in the Gault hotel on the 25th floor with a mint julep and watch the sunset over the 4 bridges. To top it off a barge came under at exactly the right moment.

This walking bridge was amazing and I wish every city could have a structure like this. It was awesome taking a stroll in the morning hours without worrying about traffic but actually getting to see some great views of both states. There was convenient parking at the base of the Louisville side.

This is a great way to spend a sunny afternoon either on your own or with family of all ages. The views from the bridge are fantastic. There are great views of the Louisville city skyline and the Ohio river plus Jeffersonville Indiana. It is approximately a mile there and back so is easy for people of varying abilities. It is also wheelchair accessible and we were able to push my Mum over in her wheelchair. I would highly recommend this activity.

The Big 4 Bridge takes you from Louisville, Ky. to Jeffersonville, In.On the Kt. side you have Lou. Slugger Ball Park, places to eat and Museums. On the Indiana side there are a few shops, Olive Leaf Bistro and a GREAT VIEW OF LOUISVILLE. One thing not to miss in Jeffersonville is SCHIMPFF'S CANDY STORE. It's only 130 years young and
serves The Modjeska!! (GREAT)

Great fun historical experience to cross the walking bridge from Indiana to Kentucky or vice versa highly recommend this experience

Was pleasantly surprised by the bridge. We had an hour to kill and decided to check it out, beautifully maintained, excellent view of the city and waterfront. Lots of people exercising there, running/biking/etc. Only walked halfway across but glad we made the stop. Small parking area but we went early so had no issues finding a spot. Bathrooms are available next to parking area.

Always good to be close to the water ! Even more when you can walk with your gf or bf . Such a romantic and nice place to be away for some time .

This bridge leads from Louisville, KY to Jeffersonville, IN. There are a lot of places to eat in Indiana. There’s an ice cream shop. It is enjoyable to walk with friends or family. You can rent bikes to ride.

What an amazing bridge to walk or ride across without worrying about getting run over by vehicles! It is big so lots of room, and mid way across there is music. The views are amazing! What a gem!

A great stroll between two states. It is an easy walk from KY to IN. Beautiful place with lots of great views. Benches placed along the bridge for those who need a rest. There are many opportunities for scenic photos. If you have the time, you definitely should try to take a walk across this beautiful bridge! This is an excellent asset for the community and its visitors.

It was great to take a trip by bike over this historical bridge. We biked from Kentucky to Indiana over the Ohio River and back. It was beautiful not to mention the bridge has historical plaques explaining the importance.

The old railway bridge is nice place to walk from one state to anotherone.
It is amazing view to Louisville downtown. You can park right onder bridge.

I am sure it is spectacular to see when there is a special event causing these lights to be on. We were down there when evidently the Elite 8 was being played and that didnt qualify for the light switch to be thrown.

We visited this at night and it was so pretty. The walkways were closed because of the weather but we walked under the bridge by the water and it was so nice! Highly recommend going by and looking!

Took advantage of a beautiful day in October to visit the bridge for the first time! It was a great walk to Indiana and back. The bridge is absolutely stunning at night with all the lights! Definitely a place all should visit!

One of the favorite things we like to do is walk the bridge over the Ohio river, I can not walk very fast or for very long without taking breaks and sitting down and there is plenty of benches along the way, there's also a bicycle rental, & a kicking park on the KY side!!!/:0)

Another great touring spot for visitors. Have them walk the bridge and head over the Schrimffs(?) Candy store for a real treat and step back in time.

I love walking the bridge especially at night. Highly recommend to everyone from family walk to romantic walk...very peaceful.

What a blast....2 mile round trip walk across the Ohio into Indiana..check out Schimpfs candies! Worth the walk. Jeffersonville is a quaint town.

One of Louisville's best decisions to turn the Big Four Bridge into a community experience. Walking the bridge and visiting Jeffersonville bars and restaurants is always a great trip.

Bridge was not illuminated when we went. Bummer. The ramp to get up and down is very easy to walk, bike, scooter. There isn't a designated traffic flow, so watch out for scooters or bikes that just drive anywhere they want.

great way to spend a warm (for March) afternoon outdoors. nice area and kids enjoyed the playground.

We walked the nice bridge with nice views and it's ok like every other bridge on which you can walk.

My two grand daughters wanted to see the Big4 walking bridge so we took em and it was almost a major mistake, way too many rude and unruly teenagers looking for trouble for me and the empty police car in the lot was not much of security help. Trouble looking for a place to happen and could be the death of downtown if not put into check. I will not go back and risk my grand childrens safety.

We had a great time walking the Big Four Bridge at sunset and learning about its history along the way! The views of the city were spectacular and we enjoyed watching the boats pass under us on the river, including the Louisville Belle. The best part was the light show which begins around dusk and continues until 1am.

I've done the Bridge walk a couple of times. Most recently to go a festival on the Indiana side. Great little walk and nice to be able to park away from the immediate crowd.

Beautiful to see at night all lit up and enjoyable to walk on. We have encountered street artists/performers on walls and it's enjoyable to take in.

The Churchill Downs tour was disappointing. The guide was very good, but they had radio blaring over loudspeakers that made him difficult to hear. The museum was OK but not worth the admission plus driving time from downtown.
The Muhammad Ali Museum is a must. The 21c Hotel was also worth the visit. There is a good bit to see in walking distance if you are staying downtown plus free concerts at Fourth Street Live.

We visited Louisville during mid-September. The days were hot and humid. We walked the bridge later in the evening when it started to cool. There are two parking lots and a pleasant walkway leading up to the bridge. The lighting is pretty, it changes color constantly. The views of the Ohio River and the Louisville skyline were picture worthy. As you meander across the bridge, people are friendly, and musicians were entertaining with their street music. We didn’t visit Indiana but I was told there are some really cute little shops when you leave the bridge. I wish we were closer to the bridge I would’ve walked it every night.

You can view the bridge and travel across it on foot or bicycle. Lakefront picnic areas and the great lawn nearby. Good views of the waterfront.

We walked from our hotel via the Waterfront Park. The bridge was busy for a Tuesday afternoon! There is parking at the base of the bridge.

We made a quick overnight stop in Louisville on our way to Gatlinburg, TN. We got into town around 8:30 and after checking in went down to Waterfront Park and walked on the Big Four Bridge. The views from the bridge are quite scenic and worth the stop if you have time while in Louisville. We stopped and read some of the history of the bridge. Being from a city with a completely underutilized river front area we thought the bridge and park were a unique way to highlight a riverfront area, well done Louisville!

Fun to run across went over to the Belle of Louisville then back to Indiana side not gonna be able to get 100 characters don’t know why I have to elaborate was a nice run

Great walk with spectacular views. Definitely doable for even the out of shape. We enjoyed a quick stop at the Parlor on the Indiana side as a break before heading back.

Very nice walking bridge. Like that it had benches to sit and rest along the way. Only issue was people riding their bikes and scooters across the bridge and yelling for you to get out of their way. Need some type of security at the entrance.

The Big Four Bridge was a mile walk from our hotel, plus another mile walk across. It’s a nice flat walk, except for the small incline to access the bridge. Prior to accessing the bridge there are a few food trucks if you want to grab a drink, sno-cone, or a quick bite. Once you reach Jeffersonville, Indiana, there are several places to eat or get a drink. The bridge was busy, but not too congested that you were bumping into others.

Use to be a bridge for the railroad now it is a pedestrian bridge. Kind of fun to walk from Kentucky to Indiana and great photo opt opportunity.

My 10 year old daughter and I walked the bridges and spent a few hours on the waterfront. It was a gorgeous day and many people were out enjoying the sunshine. Even though there were lots of people out, it didn’t feel crowded at all. I easily found parking and places to sit on the swings in the park after our walk. The bridges were cool and my daughter thought it was so fun to walk across and be in another state. At the end of the bridge in Jeffersonville, IN, we sat and enjoyed a frozen yogurt at a Sweet Treats place. It is a lot of walking so wear comfortable shoes. We saw lots of people biking across as families and you can rent the bikes right below the bridge on the Kentucky side. Beautiful bridge and part of Kentucky to see! I highly recommend.

This was a great place to explore! Lots of room to run with an awesome walking path. The view was gorgeous and it was the perfect place to get out and get some fresh air.

We Louisvillians wondered if this walking bridge would ever come to fruition. It was worth the wait! Tie on you comfy shoes and enjoy the views of river traffic, city skyline, parks and people. It isn't every day you can walk "across water" from one state to another, so don't miss this chance. On the Kentucky side, you can explore the spacious parks along the riverfront. On the Indiana side, hike to have lunch or ice cream at one of the restaurants not far from the base of the bridge. DO NOT MISS Schimpf's Candy! You can watch them make the confections, taste a sample, and bring home something sweet for yourself or to share.

The Big Four Bridge offers a nice walking surface and some great views of city. Like visiting most large cities, it pays to be aware of your surroundings at all times. Don’t let your small children wander or leave your sight. With that said, if you’ve never explored here it’s worth the effort. Recommended.

The Big Four Bridge is a must-do for visitors and residents of Louisville. As you walk the mile from Louisville to Jeffersonville, Indiana, the skyline of Louisville is stunning and Jeffersonville is a beautiful town on the mighty Ohio River. It's a free pedestrian bridge with nice places to rest and snack on either end and benches if you need a break on the bridge.

The walking bridge is a great way to show family and friends an overview of Louisville and Jeffersonville. Had a friend come to visit and after all the wonderful food we enjoyed in Louisville, wanted to get a little exercise but continue our sightseeing. I took a friend over and we really enjoyed crossing over the bridge and stopping at some of the stores and the coffee shop in Jeffersonville.

The best parking set up for the downtown area (free)! Enjoyed our walk. Wish we had our running gear!

This is a fun and beautiful walk. A nice way to spend an hour. The walk is about 2.7 miles round trip. Highly recommend.

Nice nighttime stroll with my husband. I felt safe while with him, however I cannot say that I would have felt safe if alone. Kind of dark in the area surrounding the bridge, so I probably wouldn’t suggest this while alone at night.
It was very pretty though with all of the lights . We walked from Jeffersonville, IN to Kentucky across the bridge. Not a bad walk. Easy access.
Our hotel was within walking distance so we did not have to worry about finding parking.

It's nice to walk to the neat shops in Indiana, but be alert if you are not crossing with others. Parking is limited and don't leave anything showing in your car. Several breakin's in the area and there are often shady people on the bridge. Recommend to go in a group like I always do. We visited a candy shop and had lunch at a quaint little restaurant

Pedestrian bridge from Kentucky to Indiana. Nice views over the Ohio River. Bridge is lit in different colors at night.

It was so cool to finally see this bridge in person. I didn’t realize how big it actually is! From far away, it looks like one of those bridges you put together as a kid in tech class out of popsicle sticks lol.

Wow, just head on out for plenty of free parking and a unique park where you get to cross the Ohio river into another state! Walk, jog, run, board or rent a scooter. Beautiful views of downtown from up high a "re-claimed" railroad bridge, that unfortunately claimed the lives of 7 workers when it was originally built nearly one centure ago. Enjoy, we did!

We walked the pedestrian bridge from Louisville across to New Albany and it was a nice walk with beautiful scenery of the river.

We rented biked and rode the bridge into Indiana. Super easy ride, fun views, clean. Really worth it to get the view of the Ohio river and the Louisville skyline.

This bridge is part of a very nice park and walk very near downtown. The park is almost 30 years old, well maintained with lots of green space, statues and history of the area.

My son and I walked (most of) this bridge one evening. It has beautiful views and is enjoyable! It is handicap accessible as you can use a ramp to get to it or take stairs.

Easy, iconic, beautiful, and we had a great time. It is a must do to travel across the Ohio River, we did it on a cool day with clear weather.

What a great activity to do for free. Take a nice stroll and enjoy the view. We walked over during the day and returned in the evening.

Nice views of the river and Louisville skyline. Perfect for a walk during the day or early evening. Very good repurposing of this old railroad bridge.

Nice walk over the Ohio on a pretty day to go from KY to IN at a leisurely pace and do some shopping. Located right near downtown and the sights

It's a bridge. You can walk across it from Louisville, Kentucky to Jeffersonville, Indiana or vice versa.
It does not have a marker to indicate when you have crossed the state line.
It's April 2022 and there were no food options or drinks around the beginning of end of the bridge, but on the IN side there is a charming downtown area with pleasant restaurant options.
This experience requires a walk of somewhere around 1-2 miles including the on ramp. This requires some physical ability, but the overall experience is mild.
It's recommended but not necessarily the most mind blowing attraction of all time.

Nice walk from Kentucky to Indiana. It would have been nice to have a Welcome To sign at both borders, woulld make for a nice photo opp. Great kiddy park on the Kentucky side. Would go back to see at night.

I loved this bridge. Not only is it cool to look at, but having a dedicated place to run walk across the river without having to deal with cars and trucks is awesome. It’s also 1/2 mile across.

The Big Four Bridge was coverted in 2015 to a walking bridge. There is easy access from both sides of the river and it makes for a nice stroll. The entire length of the bridge is nearly a mile.

Walking the big four is one of my favorite things to do for exercise! I am thrilled to live in such a beautiful city as Louisville. It’s also nice to have the walking access to Southern Indiana! There are a few fun restaurants on that side of the river.

Made our way to The Big Four Bridge and it was worth it! Really nice walk and loved the Bike Sense music! Jeffersonville, IN was a cute little town. Great stop at the coffee shop not far from the bridge. Worth a trip!

Really nice place to get some sunset photos! It's quite a long way on and off, and not so easy to get to if you're walking from NuLu, but definitely worth the walk over for all the views.

We liked this activity. There was a long circular ramp to walk up leading to a foot bridge. Some people were taking advantage of the area as a great place to jog and others were taking advantage of the views for photography. There were some bench swings and other shaded areas to sit. There is a small observation deck to walk on at water level. If we had visited on the weekend it would’ve been even better as there were rentals available to ride in (recumbent bikes, covered bikes for two) and a cool looking food truck. We spent about 30 minutes here but with everything open including the food truck, you could spend 90-120 minutes.

We drove up to this bridge and parked in the designated area and began the trek. At night it is gorgeous and great for pictures, only down side is where you park the cars at there were a ton of rats playing in the small playground that is right there. If you're okay with that then night time is a great time. In the future I probably will only go during day light hours. You can walk fully across the bridge to Ohio or stop in the middle and be in 2 states at the same time.

You ha e to drive over the main bridge whilst visiting the great city of Louisville
There were repairs work being completed during our visit but this didn’t take away the views as you drive over

Looking for a cheap/free family entertainment here is your place. Along with the walk of the bridge you also learn about it being built and it’s uses. Kids and adults love the lights, boats passing and the ice cream shop on the other side.

Great walk and fun to explore. Nice breeze. It was a great walk for a little morning exercise! Good to go grab a bite on the other side

The bridge is a nice place to walk and get a nice view of the city at the same time. We walk the bridge quite often and like the park settings on both sides of the river.

It is a Great place to visit during the day for walking or biking in between Louisville, Kentucky and Jeffersonville, Indiana. It is also a beautiful site to see at night as the view of the city is pretty from there.

A lot of sightseeing , I would suggest going to the bridge it was so excellent. But tiring. It was fun

Soooo BEAUTIFUL a night when it's lit! Also great at sunset. The town across the river in Indiana, Jeffersonville is quaint and a nice place to visit once you walk over from Louisville.

We were looking for something to do on Easter Sunday since we were in Louisville for the weekend. It was gorgeous out, 65 and not a cloud in the sky, so we thought we'd take a walk to Indiana. Pleasantly surprised to find a couple of places to get frozen yogurt at the other end of the bridge in Jeffersonville. Sat in the park afterward to people watch and enjoy the sun and the weather (don't get that kind of weather at Easter very often in Michigan).

A wonderful way to see the Ohio River and the skyline of Louisville! The approach ramps on both the KY and IN sides are well graded and not difficult whether on a bike or walking.

Not your usual bridge but a nice walk on a nice day to cross from one state to the next. Handicapped accessible.

A nice, peaceful walk over the Ohio River connecting Kentucky and Indiana. I went during the day so I did not see the lights, but the experience was beautiful.

We walked from our hotel to this bridge. We took our time walking over the bridge. It was nice because it's wide and room enough for everyone. We started in Louisville and walked to Jeffersonville. We didn't explore Indiana, we just walked back. It was a great way to start the day! Nice views!

The bridge was pretty long and we were on a bit of time schedule so we decided to rent bicycles that were available to rent. Mainly everybody walked across but we had fun riding across and then enjoying ice cream on the other side. Views of the river and city from the bridge are picture perfect opportunities. I would highly recommend (no charge to walk across).

This is something that we always do when we have out of town guests, if the weather allows. It's nice, we feel safe, and it gives great views of downtown Louisville

I can remember when this was the "Bridge That Goes Nowhere", it was an old railway bridge built in the late 1800s and was decommissioned in the 1960s and had it's approaches removed. Now it's fixed up as a walking bridge and is lighted for 24hr use, but the park area closes at 11. We walked back and forth a couple of times and enjoyed the views of the river and KY and IN sides of the river. There were many different bikes and scooters for rent on both sides of the bridge. There are restaurants on the IN side and a food trailer on the KY side. There were several musicians playing and a nice breeze.

It was a pretty walk, good view of the skyline and of the river. We felt very safe, lots of people all enjoying the evening. It sounds like a long walk, but once you get beyond the ramp onto the bridge it is level and smooth and there are benches scattered along the way.

I went at night, and I was cold but it was worth it! Saw a tugboat and barge going down the river. I could Uber to and from the parking lot. I only saw a couple other people, so it was quiet. Got some great pictures, too! It’s a mile back-and-forth. The end I went up was a nice slope (no stairs), so it was too rigorous to get up.
If you love the lights, the river, and a nice walk, this is worth it.

I took the opportunity to walk over to Jeffersonville to grab a cigar at the Match Cigar Bar. The Ohio River is huge. The historical aspect of the bridge is super cool. It was a great walk on an absolutely beautiful day. Jeffersonville has a neat downtown shopping and eating district. Despite the blight in Louisville it was a safe walk round trip.

A nice bridge over the Ohio, great for walking or biking. We lived the classical music that was playing on the middle section in Sunday morning.

Great views of the city and a great walk. Going up the ramps is a small workout (nothing major, but for those who have trouble it’s worth noting). We had beautiful sunset views of downtown Louisville and the Ohio River. As the city and bridge lights turn on, the scenery changes to a different beautiful. Very clean (with the exception of the public restrooms on the Kentucky side).

We had a beautiful fall morning and walked several miles along the waterfront park and across the bridge. I love seeing communities reinvest in green space on and over rivers. Bikes, walkers, runners - great option for all.

Can't tell you enough how being able to walk this Park along the shore of the Ohio River. The view on walk over to Indiana and being able to look down at a school of catfish and then to know how high over the river you are and they look rather large even from that height.

This is a good free activity if you are visiting Louisville, and if you have the flexibility, visit the bridge both in daylight and in the evening.
In the day, the bridge is a fun hike, about a mile each way including the ramps, and there are good views. You can do this after dark, too, but you might not like being on the bridge then. It's safe enough, but everyone has their own comfort level.
But even if you don't go up on the bridge after dark, you'll want to go there to see the light display, which is quite good. If you can, plan to watch from the park area near the bridge near the river edge for a while, as the lighting effects gradually change and will look different. I spent 15 minutes and had to leave, wishing I could stay longer.
There is convenient free parking close to the bridge on the Kentucky side. I do not know about the other side.
This is something you can do with kids, strollers, and bikes. Cars are not able to go onto the bridge.

Neat bridge for photos (especially at night). Cool architecture. Accessible from waterfront park (which I also reviewed). Access by steps or long ramp. Plenty of room for walkers, scooters, and bicycles. Nice views of the river and other bridges. Also fun to "walk to Indiana." This would also be a great place for a run or jog.
This would make a neat (and free!) date night activity. A couple could enjoy waterfront park, walk the bridge. There are tons of swings in the park and benches on the bridge for snuggling and talking. It would be fantastic to take a date there at night when all the lights sparkle and you can see the city skyline. Other activities you could do on this date that are cheap: Frazier history museum (14 bucks a ticket) KMAC (6-7 bucks a ticket), and touring the cities old neighborhoods for impressive homes and architecture (free). Alas, I digress.

You get great views of downtown Louisville and the Ohio River. The old railroad bridge offers a great walk over the river.

We visited Louisville and visited my husband’s cousin. He drove us to the Indiana side of the bridge where we had ice cream. My husband and I walked back over the Big Four Bridge where periodically you could read about the history of the bridge. It was so cool to see all the people walking back and forth. The view of Downtown Louisville was beautiful, and the development along the waterfront was very well planned.
I would highly recommend walking over this bridge. I believe it is a mile each way so be sure to wear your sneakers!

Our first visit to Louisville in probably 25 years! It was a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon with temps in the 50s when we arrived. First stop was the Big Four Bridge. Everything about it is terrific! Free parking. Great views. Good clean air. Plenty of space to accommodate the photographers, the strollers, the runners and bikers. It was nice to see friends, couples, and families taking advantage of the beautiful day! Across the day, we made three visits: early afternoon to acquaint ourselves with the site; late afternoon to walk the mile across the bridge, get coffee, and walk back; late evening to see the lights on the bridge and reflected in the water. Can't beat this attraction!

Too many shootings and violence on the bridge and in the park leading to the bridge. They should charge entrance fees and use the money for armed security forces to patrol the area. I visited several times but will not return until they post armed security or install a staffed police station. It's too bad because it's a beautiful venue and a great concept. I have taken out-of-town guests and family, but never again.

My husband and I were in Louisville recently and we decided to go to the Big Four Bridge. It was a perfect fall day. Sunny and not too hot. We knew it was a two mile walk round trip. We are used to walking just about every day weather permitting. The hardest part was walking the ramps going up on each side. Not too hard but I don't think I would want to do it on a very hot day. The view from the bridge was great. It goes over the Ohio River with Louisville on one side and Indiana on the other side. We could see the other bridges and the skyline of Louisville. We even walked over some rowing team in the water. There were quite a few people on the bridge for a weekday morning. The experience was very nice. I would recommend it.

At night, you get to see the lights. I was there on a Sun night, it was relaxing, not very crowed at all. Some very nice views. I went to the end, grabbed an ice cream at the shop on the Indiana side. Not really much on the KY side, except for the park and children's playground. Pick a night when there is a free concert in the park on the Indiana side, then walk over & see the concert, and walk back. It is a fair amount of walking, up & down inclines.

Its a great getaway from the traffic of downtown. Just a short walk from all the hustle, just cross the bridge to small ttown America

We walked the bridge in the late afternoon and it was a fantastic view. We ended up walking into Indiana and eating dinner there before the walk back. The Louisville skyline was amazing to see.

Nice place for a stroll. Parking is a bit limited by the bridge so park in one of the lots further down or up the river. No one is actually following the rules about no pets or skateboards though.

This is such a nice walk with a significant other at night. You can take your time and stroll along talking, holding hands and stealing kisses with the scenic view of downtown twinkling in the background. I think this is an awesome bridge and extra special with someone to walk it with.

Went for a walk on the bridge, it is very safe and well lit.
Such a great view, very picturesque.
Walked to Indiana and back, took about 15 minutes back and forth

Excellent view as we took a segway and enjoyed the view from both side of the bridge. Well worth the effort

On each side of the river, there is parking and parks. You can walk across the Ohio River on the old railroad bridge. Along the way, there are some signs that offer historical information. You get really good views of downtown Louisville from the bridge.

Beautiful at night!!! Our family really enjoyed all the colors of the lights. We enjoyed walking up the ramp system to the bridge and continued across. Wish there was a label of some sort in regards to crossing into Indiana on the other side of the bridge but otherwise so much fun for our family.

Fantastic Walk across The Big Four Bridge connecting Louisville KY, to Jeffersonville Indiana. The walk across the bridge can be as leisurely as you like or as fast as you want to walk, cycle or run, there’s loads of seats dotted all along the bridge for resting. It took my husband and I approx 20mins to walk from one end to the other at a comfortable pace..You get great views from the bridge over the Ohio River, and also there’s history stations all along the bridge telling of its story.. If you want to see the Bridge lite up with gorgeous coloured lights which is beautiful at nighttime, I can recommend a night cruise on “The Belle of Louisville Steam Boat”. .The walk over The Big Four Bridge was one of my highlights while in Louisville... Forgot No Pets allowed on the Bridge!

One of my favorite things to do in Louisville. Combination of great excercise, great views, and great treats when you visit one of the many restaurants/bars in Jeffersonville.

Love, love the development along the riverfront and the option to run across. Needed to log 8 miles and the Big Four helped me accomplish that. Nice paths on both sides of the river for runners to explore.

A really nice walk across - very safe, lots of people around and there is music right in the middle of the bridge which was a nice surprise. Great view! And I, of course as a Brit over from the UK, did the cheesy 'now I'm in Kentucky, now I'm in Indiana!'

We went for a stroll across the big four Bridge early evening. We missed the sunset, but it was still a very lovely evening and a great way to spend some time and get some exercise. It wasn’t terribly crowded and had a wonderful ambience. If you have the time, you definitely should try to take a walk across this beautiful bridge!

This is a good area for walking and seeing new sites in the Louisville area. We really enjoyed our visit. This is great for a family visit.

Increased patrols by Louisville Metro Police have reduced the danger of repeated nighttime wildings by what the local press delicately calls "youths". Of course, bridge-based panoramas are understandably less gauzily romantic during daylight.

Despite being there on a wet day, the walk across the Big Four Bridge was definitely worth it. Great views down the river and was fun to walk from one State to another. The surrounding grounds are all very well kept and it is a nice area to spend some time

We went on a cold day but it was still very nice! Great views and some informative plaques. Parking was convenient as well.

This is a layed back walk across the river and gives a fantastic view of Louisville. You can rent electric bikes and scooters at the parking area and we had fun doing this.

This is great walk to do! We loved being able to see more of the city from an elevated spot. To walk from one end to the other is about 30-50 depending on how fast you walk. There is a ramp to get up and that part of the walk could be tough if you have bad knees or fatigue fast. Worth while going to!

For sure want to visit again, it was getting ready to storm so we were unable to walk across the entire bridge but I will be going back! Biking, walking, running, I think there was even a proposal!

Enjoy a great view of Louisville and the Ohio River. The walk across the bridge is peaceful and beautiful. The ramps up and down could tax those who can't walk well or have weak hearts. Great photo ops!

A true treasure to have restored for public use. The easy hike shows the view of the entire city. Go on a pretty day and enjoy!

The best way I found to see is the bridge was to run the bridge. So cool to run from Kentucky to Indiana via the Ohio River!! Worth a walk across during the day or at night.

The Big Four Bridge is a six-span former railroad truss bridge that crosses the Ohio River, connecting Louisville, Kentucky, and Jeffersonville, Indiana. We stopped here to stretch our legs, walk the entire bridge and take in the scenic views before heading back out on our road trip. Worth the stop. Free parking. There are bathrooms. The day we went there were a few food vendors there. Including the ramps if you walk all of it is around 2 miles.

It’s been 20 years. I grew up here off of watt street right on the river. I decided to come back to revisit some child good memories for my bday get away. This place has changed sooooo much. It is beautiful and I’m so glad they had someone trying to turn this beautiful place around and they perfected it. Thank you for these new Awsome memories and my little house is still there right in front of them all.

We saw the bridge from the car. It's a really nice structure. It's definitely a nice walking destination.

A great place to take your kids and spend time with your wife. Gotta go in the evening to see the pretty lights. We took the boat and went under the bridge which was beautiful.

It's 1 mile from the base of the ramp on the Kentucky side to the base of the ramp on the Indiana side. Plaques along the route that give some history. Classical music playing in the center of the bridge. The great thing for younger families is the playground and spray park at the base on the Kentucky side. It's very well designed, with shaded areas for parents to sit while the kids play. There were also food trucks on the waterfront and lazy grownup swings, plus a place to rent surrey bicycles--just lovely.

There's nothing better than being outdoors on the river! A walk on the Big Four Bridge is one of the best ways to get in your exercise, enjoy the Ohio river, watch sailboats, wave to the passengers on the Belle of Louisville, and stroll down the sidewalk taking in the local downtown shops and restaurants of Jeffersonville, IN. Can't go wrong any season of the year!

We have been over the bridge many times and enjoy the walk and scenery. Each time is a little different. This last time, we took some friends, of which one was in a powered wheel chair. He did well with the ramp and enjoyed the excursion. I was a little nervous about the bikers not being careful, but we had no mishaps. Parking is often an issue, so we pick our times based upon what else is going on at the riverfront.

When on a Sunday with friends after our walk we did TaiChi ,there is a play ground rest rooms nice family outing. No pets other than service animals the reason is because people would not clean up after their pets. There are areas close by for pets and their Humans , you can walk across the Bridge to Indiana. So put your tennis shoes on and take a walk on wild side Louisville and don’t forget Derby is coming up the horses race . You never know you might see Tai Chi Nana with Fan in hand O My Louisville Goodness !

Walked the bridge from Kentucky to Indiana. Very cool. It was a warm day but a nice breeze on the bridge. Really enjoyed to displays that provided the full history of the bridge. Watched the barges below move down the river. Great photo opportunity!

Stunning views of the majestic river and quant city. Great for family, friends or date night. Nestled in a vibrant park full of arts and food vendors, free public restrooms. Picturesque any time of day but especially at sunset/evening.

Great view of the Ohio River, Downtown Louisville and Southern Indiana. Waterfront Park as walking, biking, concerts, and more.

Great bridge to see, gorgeous at night. Compliments downtown in background. Glad we took the time. Unique to have a bridge like this in coty.

Excellent place to have a walk. Whether you want to relax, exercise, meditate or have fun with your family. Either in the Louisville side or Jeffersonville side you'll find playgrounds and green areas. At the Jeffersonville's you'll find nice restaurants. Pearls Street Treats, very recommended after a good walk if you start from the Louisville side.

The bridges look very nice and are good for a stroll. They look even better with the lights on then at night. An enjoyable walk.

Very cool at night. The walk is very enjoyable. We felt very safe and comfortable to walk the bridge. I would recommend this to anyone.

This is the best attraction of Louisville. The bridge is not very strenuous. It is goes over the Ohio River. It has a nice park on the Kentucky side with scooter rentals. It has a great playground for children. They play classical music through speakers on the bridge. There are facilities on both sides.

Good walk, beautiful view, and fairly easy parking. It was also easy to get to and just an overall nice stroll.

Very family friendly. There are a lot of play grounds along the river front but walking the bridge was very nice. There were benches along the way to sit and rest if needed. Very clean. It was nice to walk over the bridge to Indiana. Each side was unique.

We visited this place twice on a Saturday. Once in the afternoon where we could appreciate the beauty of the setting in the park. The next time was at night, when we could appreciate and experience walking the bridge with the LED lights on.
Free parking is at the base of the south end of the bridge, the walk up to the bridge is a beautiful, wide and open spiral. The place was safe and welcoming. Happy that we came back later on as we wanted to see the lights. The lights came on around 8:30 PM.

The riverfront was nice and you had a great view of four bridges from the walkway. We saw several homeless people but the kept to themselves and didn't panhandle or beg.
The paddle boats didn't start running until after we left (Covid19) looked fun to do.

Wife and I walked this bridge, into Indiana and around the town there. Really enjoyed the walkability of the downtown area, the plethora of restaurants and architecture.

This walking bridge offers a nice view of the river, bridges, and skyline. The information on the bicycle program is interesting

Walk from Kentucky to Indiana over the Ohio River. Nice walk over this former railroad bridge. People on scooters, bicycles and feet go over this, many for their daily walk. Nice to do and it's FREE!

If you ever are in the area I highly recommend you stop through and check it out. You definitely get to see the city from a different point of view no matter at night or even during the day it’s beautiful!

We enjoyed the waterfront park, then walked across the bridge to Indiana! Jeffersonville, the town on the other side, was cute, and we LOVED the old-fashioned candy store.

Walk, ride your bike and take in the breeze. Enjoy the possible entertainment from an aspiring talent playing his musical instrument for tips along the way. Do it at your pace. The ramp is not too steep. When you get to the Indiana side, there are several pubs and interesting shops to visit in a safe atmosphere. Sometimes there are street festivals and craft fairs and even a farmers market in season. If so inclined for a longer walk or bike ride, you might want to continue to walk or ride the flood wall to New Albany.

Had a friend visit from New England and we decided to take a walk across the Big Four Bridge. The bridge is clean and many others were taking advantage of the great weather. The view of the city is great from the bridge. It’s a fun way to experience the river and the city.
There is no charge to walk the bridge and parking is ample. From the bridge we walked along the river to waterfront park. It’s another way to experience the river. There are lots of benches to sit and rest along the way. There are also picnic tables and a playground; the city has done a great job of turning this former industrial area into a people friendly park.

Best place to watch the sunset.
Long walk to get the the top of the bridge..
The night light patterns can be seen from afar.
Nice place for a breezy walk

We enjoyed crossing this bridge early on a summer Sunday morning. Great views and perspective on the location of Louisville near Indiana. Too hot to go later in the day!

Walked across the bridge from Louisville side into Jeffersonville. Was hoping to catch it at dusk, when it's lit up. But as we were leaving around 9pm. The only lights that were on, didn't exactly take your breath away. But an absolute must experience when in Louisville. All the more better if you can stop at Pearls treats, for an ice cream on the Jeffersonville side.

We took a night stroll on the bridge, so pretty with all the colorful lights! We felt safe even though there weren't many others on the bridge that late!

I’d give these a 5 star if pets were allowed to walk across this impressive bridge. My husband and daughter went while I stayed below in the park. I love the setting with swings around for guests to just stop and people watch. The bridges are impressive. The parks area are nice. Picnic tables and vendors are available. Lots of area to walk, play, run, or hang out.

It was a beautiful morning to park at the Big Four Pedestrian Bridge Parking lot River Road(Google) with nice restrooms open at 9 AM. We joined other walkers, joggers and bicyclists on the 1/2+ mile crossing to Jeffersonville, IN. Historical signage throughout, classical music in the mid section and views of busy I-65 on the John F. Kennedy Memorial Bridge and the Abraham Lincoln Bridge make for lots of general interest.

Had great weather and views were nice. Had such a great time I walked back and forth 6times. The down side was the Louisville side restroom were closed for the season. You had to use the pottys

Had a blast on the tandem bike! Nice stroll and much more of a park to see. Plenty of free parking near by.

Spent an hour or two waling the riverfront and had a nice time looking out at the river. Had a nice afternoon there having lunch.

Super view of the Ohio and all shipping and boating activities. Plus walk across the bridge from the Kentucky side to the Indiana side. Lots to see and enjoy

This is a great place to hang out among friends to walk, jog, run, or ride bicycles. It is one bridge that merges 2 states together to offer individuals the great taste of both worlds on foot. It is quite beautiful at night when it is lit up in multiple colors. Great for singles, couples, families, and large groups.

A great walk on a nice clear day. There are places to dine on both sides of the bridge. Good for young and old

It’s very welcoming but I would try to come during the season to enjoy the weather better and facilities as well, as the bathroom was closed for the season.
You have great views from a few point including a small dock or on the loop that takes you on the bridge

We were in Louisville overnight but usually eat at a restaurant on the Indiana side. We decided to give this bridge a try. Both sides of it have very nice green space, restrooms, and water fountains. Everything was clean. Everyone was nice that we encountered. There was a guitar player at one point and we passed a school band that was going across to set up to play as well. On the KY side there were several different types of bikes that could be rented. The IN side only had electric bikes. We would definitely go back and do this again. On the IN side there is an ice cream store and a restaurant/bar at the end of the ramp. There are also several small businesses within walking distance including a wonderful candy store. On the KY side there is also a much larger riverwalk that you can connect with as well. No pets allowed on bridge.

Beautiful day walking across bridge from Louisville to Jeffersonville Indiana and back.Bridge area is well maintained and affords wonderful sight lines of the area and the Ohio River.Great safe way to stretch your legs and sightsee.

Well worth the price of admission (free). The old repurposed railroad bridge provides a good view of downtown Louisville skyline and overlook of the river traffic below. If walking, you can of course turn back anytime it gets monotonous. We started on the West side and felt we'd taken full advantage of the views by the time we reached the middle.

Great walk from Kentucky to a cute little town in Indiana. The temperature was ideal. Our teenage boys enjoyed it too.

We came here during the day on Spring Break. We were able to park in the parking area at the foot of the bridge on the Kentucky side. It was windy, there were lots of people walking on the bridge. There are signs posted not to bring animals, but nobody enforcing it. There were several dogs on leashes that I noted. I was paying attention bc we had left our dog at home and wished we had brought her since nobody was enforcing the rule. We had a nice walk over the bridge. There are several restaurants on the Indiana side. It was a very nice atmosphere on that side with people walking around and several small shops and restaurants. This is a great family activity!

My friend and I walked across the Big Four Bridge in the afternoon after arriving in Louisville. It was an easy walk that provided a bit of history along the bridge. There was also some music playing on the bridge. Unfortunately, we got caught in a storm and ended up getting soaked, but still had a great time. We just wished there was a sign to tell people when you have crossed over into Indiana

The Big Four Walking Bridge is beautiful! Especially at night when they turn all the lights on and have music playing. It is super windy up there thoughbso I'd recommend wearing a jacket cause it can make it a bit chilly at night

We walked the bridge from the Indiana side to the Kentucky side and back. Love walking on this bridge! It’s a great place to get in exercise, fresh air and beautiful views!

My friend is determined to visit all 50 states, so when we decided to visit Kentucky (#36), she wanted to walk the Big Four Bridge into Indiana (#37). We walked across on a sunny day, stopping frequently to take pictures of the beautiful vistas of Louisville. In jeffersonville, Indiana we were impressed to see lots of street art and historic wall posters highlighting the history of the town. We stopped by Schimpff candy store (since 1891) and were treated to a demonstration of how they make their candy. There is lots to see, making this a great stop. There are places to eat, but we decided to return to Louisville.

Our first day in Louisville we wound up at the waterfront park in mid-afternoon. The sun was blazing, so we decided not to take the walk. A few days later, we had a picnic lunch near the bridge entrance, but the weather was cold and windy, with rain threatening, so not a time to walk the bridge.
Third time was a charm! Our last day in Louisville, the weather was perfect.. We walked the one mile across the bridge and got some frozen yogurt before heading back. Bathrooms are available at the Indiana park at the base of the bridge.
I enjoyed the photo ops, and the middle section of the bridge had music playing. Wish we could have seen it lit up at night! All in all a very enjoyable experience.

Its a new feature in Louisville, to cross the bridge into Indiana. Not a lot of development on each side but a great getaway for an hour or two

Walkng from state to state to state for dinner was quite an experience. Cross that off the bucket list. Jeffersonville is a quaint little town that provides ample selections for food & entertainment. An the sunset from the bridge was spectacular.

This bridge over the Ohio River is a sight to see. The views from here are also very good. I would come here again.

We went on a beautiful Saturday evening and really enjoyed this unique experience. The bridge is clean and the site is breathtaking of the Ohio River and the Louisville skyline. We also really enjoyed the waterfront park itself, especially the swing garden!

We walked the bridge from Kentucky to Indiana while on a getaway with friends, and then had dinner before walking back. What a wonderful way to spend time and get some exercise as well! Beautiful views, and the bridge is wide enough to accommodate all. Everyone should do this at least once if they can. : )

It's an impressive looking bridge. It provides a nice walk over to Indiana. It has quite a nice spiralling walkway on the KY side. You would need to be quite fit to push a wheel chair or heavy buggy up it though.
Not much in the way of amenities; it is simply a bridge, and is free to access.
Note that according to local media, the Big Four Pedestrian Bridge will be close from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, April 12 for the 2019 Thunder air show practice window.
On Thunder day, the Big Four Bridge will close at 10 a.m. and reopen at midnight.

The Big Four Bridge is a railroad bridge that was converted into a cyclist and pedestrian bridge across the Ohio River. The walk is about a mile across and you can see Louisville and sites up and down the River from the bridge. The town of Jeffersonville, Indiana on the other side has a nice main street area. The Bridge is lit with lights that change colors periodically, which makes it an impressive local landmark.

Most Louisvillians who enjoy walking have been to the Big Four Bridge, more than once. Visit during the weekdays is when it's least crowded; easier to find parking too. Saturday and Sunday the bridge is more crowded but it's almost like a party atmosphere. People are happy and laughing, there are often buskers (street musicians) or performers. Overhead speakers pipe in music. You can get ice cream on the Jeffersonville side if you like. Dogs are not allowed anymore (thanks to careless owners who didn't clean up when it first opened). Watch out for bicyclists and skaters in the middle lane! Big Four Bridge is a great place to take out-of-town visitors.

This is a must when in the area! Take the walk in the evening if possible. The lights are so pretty. You can see a spectacular sunset against Louisville skyline as well. Stop at Schimpffs Confectionary, have dinner at Yeti both in Jeffersonville and then walk the bridge.

A great stroll between two states! It was Christmas eve, and we decided to go and check out the bridge. It would be fun to visit during the day as well, since there is a great park for kids at the end. It was nice walking from one end to another over the river. The lights were beautiful in the evening, pus you can see the other bridge where the cars pass. The kids enjoyed putting one leg in Indiana and one in Louisville =) I heard when the weather is warmer, you will find bands playing, and festivals held there as well.

Go at your own pace on bridge. Clean & well-maintained area. Free parking & entry. Enjoyed being in IN & Ky via the bridge!

The bridge changes color at night. You can also.walk to Indiana and KY by foot or bike. They have fixed up the area a lot for places to eat and drink after your adventure. I must do when in town

Great walk from one state to the other and back. Beautiful views, very satisfying experience. Would do any time again. Had breakfast in Jeffersonville and came back to Louisville.

A nice walk, run or bike over a large bridge that connects Ky and IN. Chairs to rest, beautifully and colorfully and brightly lit at night.

Beautiful to walk in the day time or night time. It is even lit up at night with different colors. The historical information provided on the bridge is very interesting.
Will be returning to visit.

Walked across the bridge from Louisville to Jeffersonville Indiana. Lucky to find little shops and a band playing on the Indiana side. Nice walk and you can see families and couples strolling on Sunday

Great place to walk or jog. There was a significant increase in wind on the bridge as opposed to off it - something to consider when making your jacket selection.
Beautiful views, lots of benches and signs with historical tidbits along the way.
One thing that would improve it is a sign demarcating the state line. I was surprised to not see a WELCOME TO INDIANA and WELCOME TO KENTUCKY placard of some sort.
In any case, it is fun to drive the bridge from KY to IN, but it is more fun to walk it. You should go!
ALSO, for parents with littles, the park at the bottom on the KY side is FANTASTIC!

This bridge is so pretty at night! It is a half a mile each way. It is very clean and safe. Part of it is in Indiana. We thoroughly enjoyed the walk.

Great walk nice and relaxing. At the end in IN numerous places to have some food and drinks. We walked through the park which was lovely to get to the start of the bridge walk. Loved all the history to stop and read as you walk.

Four Big Bridges one is an awesome Pedestrian bridge that you can walk or bike across. The views of the Ohio River and both New Albany and Louisville cities were wonderful view from the bridge. There is an outstanding park with water features for the children to play in. Made me want to be a kid again so I could play. At night it is lit up with decorative lights and the views from the pedestrian bridge is beautiful.

Sucks for bicycles! I mean the bridge is really nice, but the people are just flat out rude! They will won't move over when they see you coming. They step in your way. They let their kids run lose. I have no desire to ride my bike across this bridge again. It is just plain dangerous!

Really nice walking bridge. Wish we'd had more time to completely cross. Great photo shots of all the other bridges.

Was visiting family earlier this year and really enjoyed walking the The Big 4 in The Ville. I was born and raised here but now live away. It is good to spend quality time with family!

The bridge goes over the Ohio River connecting Louisville Kentucky to Jeffersonville Indiana. It was a beautiful evening and we walked across at sunset. I expected fabulous views of downtown Louisville but it was mostly views of bridges.
There was a historic marker that indicated the bridge was built from 1888 until 1895 as a rail Bridge, many perished building it.

Loved doing this walk from Kentucky into Indiana with my kids. Lots of people were out and about when we walked in the early evening. Spent some time at the playgrounds on both ends, and then enjoyed dinner in Jeffersonville before walking back across. A great way to get another state in while traveling if you’ve got a 50 State bucket list like we do!

Great walk across river go have coffee and cafe rest and walk back beautiful views breathtaking………..

Whether you want to relax or do light or intensive exercise, this is a great place. It takes around 15 min to cross the bridge with a normal leasure walking pace. On the Indiana side, there are great restaurants and ice-cream places. In the Kentucky side, a beautiful park. Just on weekends it gets crowded and finding parking space is a bit hard.

We rode scooters to the park and then walked the bridge. Was a very nice way to spend some time with family. Nice view and it doesn't cost anything vs commercialized activities. Would highly recommend to others.

We started our walk on this beautiful bridge on the Jeffersonville Indiana side. The park is beautiful and well kept. We were there in the morning and felt very safe. No pets are allowed on the bridge. It was obvious someone ignored the signs and then didn’t have the decency of cleanup after their dog. The views of the Ohio River and other two bridges is beautiful. There is an area on the bridge where you here music notes being played which was a little haunting, but really neat when you read the signs & know where it was coming from. There are numerous benches along the way as well as signs depicting the history of the bridge. This was wonderful experience. Definitely worth walking it.

Great walk across the Ohio River. This is a train bridge turned into a pedestrian bridge. Plenty of room to walk with bicycles, joggers and kids on scooters. They have places to sit and rest. Restrooms at each end.

We went at night when it was cooler & the bridge was lit up. It was an enjoyable walk with great views of the city & the river. The bridge had others on it but it wasn't crowded. There wasn't any unruly kids/teenagers & I didn't once feel unsafe. The ramp leading up to the actual bridge, is a gently grading ramp, nothing extreme or hard to traverse. I think this is a quick, easy & free activity to do when you don't mind a walk. I suggest doing it in the evening or nighttime when the bridge is lit up & you can view the Louisville city lights.
A word of caution...there are spiders, sometimes large ones, in the spaces between the bars, so be careful while leaning against the rails.

My husband and I walked from Kentucky to Indiana. There were plenty of free parking spots near the bridge and along River Road. The ramp going up to the bridge on both ends is one quarter of a mile long and the bridge itself is a half a mile. The signs upon entering the bridge tells you that no pets are allowed. It also states no skates or skateboards, no motorized vehicles, and no scooters. We saw a lot of scooters and a few motorized bicycles on the bridge. It appeared that most of the people, on the bridge during the 2 p.m. hour, were there for exercise. We stuck out as tourist stopping to take a lot of pictures. There are some signs along the way to read on the bridge about the history of it. They also have benches so if anyone needs to rest or just wants to sit for a while. We would do it again. The Indiana side had a few restaurants as soon as you came off of the ramp. I saw in someone's photos it said dogs were allowed on a leash, but the photo was taken in 2013. As of June of 2025 it is posted in several locations no pets allowed. There are public restrooms at the end of each ramp. The Jeffersonville photo is on the Indiana side, looking down from the bridge.

Not often you get to walk across the Ohio without dodging cars. Awesome experience to walk from Kentucky to Indiana and back in about 40 minutes. Beautiful bridge with a great history. Awesome views of the river and the cities on each side.

A Must See when in Louisville!!! We walked the bridge in the morning & watched the sunrise. It was an easy walk from KY to IN.
Jeffersonville, IN is a cute little town. Stores were closed during our visit, but we had a DELICIOUS breakfast at Geraldine’s Kitchen.

Great bridge with a beautiful setting on the Ohio. The bridge is a little longer than it looks due to the ramps to get up and down, but still...not bad at all. Even if it’s hot, have no fear. You will receive a nice breeze once you are on the bridge. Also, don’t miss the massive playground and splash pad if you have kids. It’s at the foot of the bridge.

After an arctic week, the 65° day was the perfect day to enjoy the bridge. Beautiful site, it was so clean and well maintained.

Outstanding! The kids really enjoyed watching the lights change colors as we drove into Louisville. Not many cities take enough pride in their cities to put on a display as the lights on the bridges.

This is second visit here. Love this place although I wish the bridge would've been lit up with multi colors. This visit it was only red. Beautiful place though. Definitely a must see.

We walked the bridge after dark. We felt very safe - lots of other folks were walking. I enjoyed walking the bridge on a summer/fall evening.

The Big Four Bridge is a terrific way to get in an easy walk and enjoy the sights along both sides of the Ohio River. It is easy to walk from either side, but be sure to take time on the Indiana side to visit the several restaurants and snack locations and make the walk even more enjoyable. The walk itself is an easy mile journey each direction. It can be done on a bicycle if you prefer, just don't bring your pets. Too much pet debris has forced the officials to restrict animals to the parks only.

This place is great to take a faimly or pets on a walk if you are looking for something to do for an hour when you are done you can explore beautiful louisvlle nearby

Very beautiful bridge which connects Louisville Kentucky to Jeffersonville Indiana. Many people seem to use this pedestrian bridge to go from one town to another.

Neat to view from either side of the Ohio River. It is a nice way to experience the city and the the surroundings.

Rather hard to find out how to actually get onto the ramp to get to the bridge. We are older, one with a cane and one riding a mobility scooter. It was much further from our hotel than it seemed to be. We were told we HAD to go by car, but with maps on the phone, we made the trip. The bridge itself has a lot of history which is displayed on posters along the length of it. The view is spectacular. But it was so windy that it was really hard to focus on the view for much of the trip across. We had read that there's good ice cream at the other end, and we found a delicious place to reward ourselves with yum! Took a Lyft back to the hotel. Enough wind and walking. If the weather isn't so windy, go for it!

MUST SEE!! You can walk over this bridge and there is a nice park there. I went both during the day and at night. It's really pretty and you can get some pics of downtown Louisville in the distance. At night, it's lit up and very pretty. One of the best places I went in Louisville. Nice way to burn calories while seeing some pretty scenery and learning some history about the bridge.

This big disused railway now converted into a walkway and cycle route is amazing. It has great views of both States and of the river itself. We walked from Louisville over and had dinner and drinks in Indiana which was really picturesque then ubered back to downtown Louisville. Recommend this.

It’s not always easy to find diverse public spaces that draw from all walks of Life, but the big four bridge is definitely that. It’s a fun way to get to the Indiana side and there are lots of cute shops and places to eat and drink when you make it. Love the big four bridge!

Only the historic John Roebling Suspension Bridge in Cincinnati is more beautiful - as it should be. The views of this bridge across the Ohio R. from the riverfront park in Louisville are awe inspiring!

It was a beautiful day and a great walk. There is an incline on both ends of the bridge but not too bad. The views from the bridge are amazing. Fun opportunity to walk over to Indiana.

We enjoyed walking the bridge to Indiana and caught a sunset, some fireworks and the bridge lit at night. The bathrooms were supposed to stay open until 9 and they were closed by 8 one night. We had to cut our night short due to that. Some nights there were musicians playing for tips and they were quite good. I don’t know if I’d walk alone because I’m unfamiliar with the area but in a group of two or three it was perfect

Cool to see at night but wouldn’t make this a must see attraction. Next to two other bridges as well

Walking the Big Four Bridge is a perfect sightseeing activity if you like to walk, take pictures, and enjoy the views of the Louisville Skyline. We parked on the Indiana side, which was free parking and super easy. My husband and I walked across to the Kentucky side and visited Angel's Envy Distillery and Against the Grain Brewing. Then we walked back. It was quite a bit of walking, more so than I expected, but okay for us. We did this at about 5pm on a September Friday afternoon, and the afternoon sun was HOT, so, our trip would have been much more enjoyable if we had waited a couple hours. There were a lot more tourists walking the bridge on our way back around 7pm. Would have liked to have seen the bridge lit up at night but it wasn't lit up yet by the time we left at about 7:30pm.

We loved walking across the Big Four Bridge to Indiana. The bridge was well-maintained and very wide. We wish we had left more time to explore the Jeffersonville area.

We parked near the old train bridge that was converted for 100% pedestrian use. At the base was a large bicycle rental shop with kids, tandem and other cycling options. However we skipped it and decided to just walk the bridge. As we wound our way up the walkway we were afforded with views of the Ohio river and the other three bridges. A few other joggers and walkers were out enjoying the sunny and warm morning.
Along the bridge there were a number of old steel boxes converted into signs detailing the history of the bridge and its conversion. Around the center the speakers came on and started blaring some music.
We walked all the way to the Indiana side of the river and turned around. It was an easy walk that anyone could do.
This was definitely a great example of reusing an abandoned piece of history and turning it into a great public area.

We were visiting the area from out of state and this looked like a neat little thing to do. The lights aren’t as bright on the underside/inside of the bridge. Being able to walk from Indiana to Kentucky and back or vice verse is kind of cool. There’s some signs about noises by bikes around the city that were kind of unique and interesting. We did this at like 7-8pm with our kids. There weren’t any creepy or sketchy people. There was a guy playing sax and a few young adults dancing to music (like the robot combined with break dancing) and that was about it. We didn’t interact with the sax player as he was talking to others, but the young adults were very polite and appropriate with my young ones and when my youngest busted out a few of his dance moves they cheered him on. It was a beautiful evening and just a nice fun little walk to be able to say that we did. Nothing over the top and incredible, but beautiful.

Nice and close to lots of attractions and other things to do. It has a nice view of the river and some places to show across from Louisville

Really a great and beautiful bridge. It was about 60 degrees out with a slight breeze and a great way to get out and stretch your legs.

I travel across the bridge from time to time. It is a very nice addition to the Louisville area skyline.

A great sight to see from the plane when your coming into land in Louisville. If you seat on the A side, you have a better chance of at least seeing 2 to 3 bridges.

we biked and hiked Louisville and loved the Big 4 Bridge. Great getaway weekend. Bike rentals were easy and plenty of available bathrooms

This bridge was one of the highlights of our visit to Louisville. The views from the bridge are very nice and the walk is pleasant. It's only two miles to go across and back so it's manageable if you're in healthy condition. We did cheat a little by not going all the way down on the Indiana side because we didn't feel like walking back up. There was a racing team out practicing with one of those long skinny racing boats so that was an interesting distraction as well.

The big four bridge is a terrific walk, bike, or run across the Ohio River. The natural beauty will captivate as you enjoy waterfront park and take a meander across the big four bridge. Oh the sights you will see; lovely vistas, boats and the Beautiful Louisville Skyline. My friends and I enjoy walking across to Indiana otherwise known as the Sunnyside of Louisville. It’s a great way to de stress and get some exercise in.

This is a great little park for couples, families, and anyone in between. This historic iron rail bridge across the Ohio has been beautifully restored into a great little pedestrian bridge. Divided into 3 "lanes" the bridge offers ample space for health nuts jogging/on bikes, as well as casual couples and families.
Connecting a beautiful park on the Kentucky side with a historic and gorgeous neighborhood on the Indiana side, this half mile walk offers amazing views and a depth of history.

I’ll start by saying it’s quite a lot of walking but there is a good ramp for bikes or wheelchairs. I had injured my knee so it wasn’t an easy walk up to the bridge but so worth it. Wonderful views, free to do, restrooms in the parking lot below, sits at the edge of acres of river view parkland-really wonderful. If we’d had more time, I’d have walked all the way across the River to Indiana - I read that there are a couple of good places to eat and drink there. It was a great quiet break from the big city-highly recommend!

beautiful bridge over the Ohio River. Great for walking with friends but better in summer than winter.

The skyline looks so beautiful from the bridge and it makes for a nice walk. There is also a nearby playground that my toddler loves.

Nice 2 mile walk (there and back) with views. Also enjoyed the history plaques along the bridge. Very clean and well maintained. Free parking. The Parlour restaurant at the Indiana side has great pizza and exceptional service. We went on a weekday morning and it was busy, but not too crowded.

Great walk across the Ohio River, excellent after dinner in Jeffersonville with friends. Parking available. Somewhat of an incline to/from bridge. Felt safe--still recommend groups or daylight.

I totally enjoyed walking from my hotel to the bridge, crossing the bridge into Jeffersonville, IN, and walking back to Main St., Louisville. The music playing on the bridge was unexpected & to read that it means trash is being collected by volunteers throughout the city was interesting. Everyone I spoke with or interacted with on my adventure to, crossing and returning were friendly.

This pedestrian bridge is one of my favorite spots to go when we come to Louisville. It offers beautiful views of the river and the city. We rented bikes on the Indiana side of the bridge (which was super easy) and rode over to Louisville and took ride up and down the river and then back across the bridge. Please note....this walk or ride up to the bridge is tiring! I had to walk the bike, it was too difficult for me to ride the whole way up. The bridge can get very crowded at times so biking can be tricky, but well worth it.

We went here after a late dinner to walk off our dessert. The bridge is beautiful at night and still stocked with people up and enjoying the atmosphere. We arrived around 11:30pm and there were still people, musicians and (perhaps inappropriately) children everywhere. It felt safe and we enjoyed our walk.
Felt like a kid on the big 4
My fiance and i decided to channel our inner child and go biking across into Indiana. It's neat to see it all lit up and there is a little bike store at the foot of it in case hoofing it isn't your thing. We had a genuine blast going across into another state and exploring. When lit up at night it really is a sight to see.
