This is a terrific collection of UNC basketball history and lore! For any fan of college basketball (even if you are not a Tar Heel fan) this is a must see. Located adjacent to the "Dean Dome". Be sure to find Michael Jordan's offer letter to play at UNC.
After the museum, take a stroll on the campus and then onto Franklin Street. A total "college town" experience.

This is a great place to check out when in town for a game or just because. Free admission and a great walk down memory lane. The ladies that work there are super friendly and it's also at the home of the basketball offices so you never know who you might run in to. Make sure to check next door and see if the Dean Dome is open. Sometimes during the week they have it open for people to walk through. You usually can't get down to the floor but it's still a lot of fun!

I knew this was going to be great when I was greeted as soon as I walked in. The details of the history were simply amazing. Loved the individual videos of different players and achievements.

We expected something very small, but they actually had lots to see. Layout was nice, short little video that left you feeling like you want to be "part of the family". Lots of memorabilia. Can't beat the price. Parking right across the street. Half hour visit was just about right.

...Of which I am not one. Quite the opposite, actually. But I can see when something has been done well - and if I did root for the Tar Heels this place would be worthy of at least 2 hours.

Did not know it closed 3 hrs before tip off- the regular hours showed open til 1. We got there and had 5 minutes to see everything, an impossible task.
Would go back if back in town for sure. So much history for this storied hoops program.

This place is awesome. i loved seeeing all the exhibit from the rings, trophies, to the head set of Woody Durham,.

You do not want to miss this! You do not have to be a UNC fan to enjoy or appreciate this. I am a SC Gamecock fan and decided to see what it offered. I was impressed from the moment I walked in until I walked out. You move and enjoy at your own pace. It starts with a film that has you ready to don North Carolina blue by the time it is over. It is really awesome everything on display for our enjoyment. If you are a sports fan you must take the time to spend some time to be impressed. I am not a North Carolina fan but I am a fan of what they did with this facility.

It was very interesting to see the histo
ry of the team. I was glad my freshman daughter got to see it as well. It will help her understand the history.

This is a stop not to be missed when in Chapel Hill. The many successful basketball players from the men's team who have gone on to success in the NBA are honored here. The history is depicted, and the memorabilia displayed. Be sure to allow a stop here when on campus!

Excellent memorabilia if you're a fan of MJ! I personally liked Coach Smith's letter to MJ pointing out all the basketball skills improvement MJ need to work out during the summer.

I didn't know what to except - but I really liked it. There is a LOT of basketball memories wrapped up in the photos, jerseys, trophies, nets, etc.
From coaches McGuire to Smith to Guthridge to Williams...
and from players like Lennie Rosenbluth, Billy Cunningham, Bobby Lewis, Larry Miller, Charlie Scott, Phil Ford, James Worthy, Sam Perkins, Michael Jordan, George Lynch, Eric Montross, Jerry Stackhouse, Vince Carter, Antwan Jamison, Raymond Felton, Sean May, Tyler Hansbrough, Ty Lawson, Ty Zeller, and on and on...
What a trip down nostalgia lane. And it was all for free!

I was thrilled to go to the newly renovated Basketball Museum for the second time. It was great walking through the history of basketball that is over 100 years old. You will see all the trophies and even learn about the undefeated season of 1924 with Jack Cobb. This is a must see when you visit Chapel Hill.

This is the best on-campus museum I've ever been too. a must visit for any college basketball fan and it's free! I didn't watch all of the videos and was still there for 2 hours. Basketball history heaven.

This basketball museum represents everything that is great about college basketball. Anyone of any fanbase can appreciate the effort put into and the history that UNC basketball has accumulated in over 100 years of playing.

I must admit I am a big Carolina fan so this was well worth the visit for me. I do think any college basketball fan would enjoy -- except maybe a Duke fan -- as Carolina is such an integral part of college basketball history. I went in thinking this might be a bit lacking but it was very well done and of great quality.

we wrapped this in to a family trip. It was worth the side stop for the kids and my fiance. Interesting fun facts

I've always been a Michael Jordan fan so when the opportunity came to visit the museum on UNC Chapel Hill's campus, I took it. While I'm a Fighting Illini fan, I always take the UNC side as far as the Duke rivalry goes. Michael Jordan is far from the only well known basketball hall of fame who played for the Tar Heels with Billy Cunningham, James Worthy, Walter Davis, and Vince Carter among others. Pretty much every well known player and coach is documented here and there are plenty of interactive displays and memorabilia for any sports fan. The Dean Smith Center is only a short walk away. Best of all it's free though donations are definitely appreciated.

If you follow Carolina basketball, then this is a must see. The history is fascinating. There is a five minute movie and then the rest can be completed in ten minutes or two hours depending on your interest.

Whether or not you are an UNC fan you really ought to take a few hours and go through this. The greats are here... Jordan through today. It is free and the docent was very well schooled on interesting facts. I went with a local so didn't check for hours... Probably smart to do so.

A tremendous tribute to a sport so near and dear to basketball fans, not just in North Carolina but throughout the nation.
If you love college basketball you'll love this place! Make sure to put enough time aside to enjoy it all. Even though it doesn't look large the collection is extensive so be prepared. The movie to start the tour is fantastic and sets the stage for the rest of the exhibit. No matter who your allegiances are to you'll really be glad you stopped here.

My wife and I visited the museum during a recent trip to UNC for a swim meet. The natatorium is located next to the museum, so we walked through. Being from another ACC school (but not Duke), we were impressed but not infatuated. However, if you bleed baby blue, then you could probably spend a couple of hours in here, My personal favorite item was the signed letter from Coach K written to Michael Jordan sending his well wishes and regrets that Michael would not be attending Duke! Yes, it is in there! We were warmly greeted by a lovely young lady who was very passionate about her Tarheel basketball and pointed us in the right direction. If you are in the area and are even remotely interested in college basketball, you should take advantage of this free attraction.

But if you think you might, you absolutely will! If you're a fan of UNC basketball or even of college basketball in general you have to visit if you're in the area. Nicely designed exhibition of a long and storied history of Carolina basketball.

Well, I love basketball, as I coach a Men's team myself; i had to go there on my trip to North Carolina. It is very nice to see, what this university has achived in this regard!
And it is free also!
We also went over to the dean E. Smith Center and got a glimpse of practice, before we had to leave :-)

this review was written by a 13 year old kid 1 day after they went:
It was the most amazing thing i have ever seen!!!!!!!! they had everything!!!! the rings, the scorebooks, the uniforms, the trofies everything! i swear! they also had a movie right when you walk in! definately check that out unless you get dizzy easily! and the main room is actually a basketball court that has circles that hafe text on them on the ground showing you things like wear Michael jordan jumped from for his signature dunk and a 27 footer 3 pointer, i dont remember who made that one, and cool things like that! they also have videos all over about everyone and a list on the wall to show who from unc went on to play in the NBA. its the coolest thing i have ever seen but i have a warning: when they say CAROLINA basketball museum they really mean UNC basketball museum, so if you are a duke fan, i wouldnt go. sorry! the last thing i am going to tell you is that this museum is located right next to the Dean Dome where UNC actually plays. now when i went over there it was locked, but you could still peer in through the window and see the famous light blue chairs! this museum is a MUST GO!!!!

Seriously, the memorabilia, the lighting, the layout. The museum flowed beautifully. I was cheering from the initial video!

Great way to spend an hour or so at a well done homage to Carolina basketball, Trophies, uniforms, photos and interactive exhibits done right. Had a great time

For any Carolina Basketball fan this is a pilgrimage you MUST take at least once. It’s an understatement when I say that this place is loaded with UNC basketball collectibles. When you first come in, you enter a small room with a wraparound (type) of video screen which plays a video and places you in the middle of the Dean Dome game day experience. After this is over (and you are obviously pumped up) you walk into the main room. At first it is an overload for the senses; however, once you adapt, it is breathtaking. The floor you walk on is actually the floor from the 2005 National Championship game and even points out different spots where special shots were taken. I have to say that the two best parts are the letter from Coach K to MJ and the trophy room. I won’t give too much away but will just say …. you won’t regret it. The great thing is that it’s right next to the Dean Dome, which means easy access before a game. Oh …. And it’s free!

So, The museum is right next door to the Dean Smith center where the Tar Heels play B-Ball. From the moment you walk in you are surrounded by the best curated collection of college basketball stuff for the Tar Heels. Great for all ages and takes about an hour to go through. If you are lucky you can go into the Dean Smith center and walk around to see the hallowed ground. I really do not think there is a better college campus museum in the country.

This museum is great. The first thing I have to say is that when we were there this, the lady( SORRY I FORGOT YOUR NAME) who was working was a sweet and as nice as they came. She shared some great stories with us that brought tears to our eyes. The museum is full of great memorabilia. The MJ display in the back is absolutely awesome, I mean to see his commitment letter and all that was awesome.

If you are early to a Carolina b-ball game, this is a great stop. In less than an hour you can take a stroll down memory lane thru the storied history of Carolina basketball. From the 1920 to Coach K's letter to Michael saying he was sorry for turning down dook to the current team, it is worth the trip.

So very worth every minute spent there.. from the intro movie, displays, pictures. Wonderfully arranged. Be sure to add this stop to your Chapel Hill adventures.

we went for a visit. it was very nice and informative. there is more than just the usual championship stuff. there is a championship nba ring and mvp of trophy and stuff from several nba teams. there was a lot of interesting stuff to look at including notes on how to play teams and players in championship games.

If you're a Tar Heel basketball fan, you'll love this museum. If not, you will find it boring. But that is probably obvious!

I am not a basketball fan so was reluctant to go, but the museum was well worth it! Nice history of the college and basketball for UNC and was very well done. I was glad I went!

The website stated there is parking across the street but be warned it is only a few spots not the entire parking lot. Be sure to parking in the first 8 spots by the road toward the left of the lot looking at the buildings. Parking is a minimum 3 hours for $6. Museum is free. Only the men's team is represented. There is nothing on the woman's team in this museum. You can spend about 30 minutes to an hour. It is well done but unless a huge fan not a must do in the area. I was the only one in it on a Monday afternoon. Only open until 4pm.

As you may know this is ACC country and Carolina and Duke lead the rest of the teams.......unfortunately Carolina has had a round season but you never know they might pull out. Their museum is proof of the great coaching.

My visits was right before the snow redo with duke. My friend who is a NC basketball walking encyclopedia was with me. We toured this museum and if you are a fan of the college game then this is a must see. I would call myself a casual fan but I was able to attend this game because my daughter was a senior on the UNC dance team and they were given 2 tickets to the duke game in their senior year. The museum was such an awesome experience only to be outdone by UNC knocking off Duke later that eve. It’s an incredible museum. Great interactive displays culminated by all the championship trophies. Highly recommend it

Everybody loves Michael Jordan. And here you can see some highlights of his college career, and learn other things about the UNC basketball program. The museum is very well done.

This is a history lesson in North Carolina basketball...very well done...worth a visit...check hours the museum is open

Visit here to get a taste of what UNC basketball is all about. Revisit golden moments in Tar Heel basketball history and educate yourself on legends like Michael Jordan and modern day stars like Tyler Hansbrough

Very well-organized museum , Even if you're not a Carolina Tar Heels fan this is a must-see history if you're a basketball fan, Very well done Area for Michael Jordan , This museum is for all ages, This is my third visit.

A must see if you are a college basketball fan (then 5 stars)! Six national championships. Many memorabilia, videos and other stuff. At least an hour. Free! Just SE of main campus; meter parking nearby and near the Dean Smith Center (Deandome).

So much history!! Whether you're a UNC fan or just a basketball fan it definitely worth it. Free to visit and would have even paid. Very cool memorabilia, brought back a lot of memories.

If you have even the slightest interest in Carolina basketball, this is your favorite place. The museum doesn't have one stuffy inch in it. It is interactive, 3D, well organized, and perfect. My favorite thing is the letter to Michael Jordan written my Coach K extending his regrets that Michael turned him down, haha!

The woman who greets you is one of the friendliest people I've ever met. This is a free exhibit and worth it if you are in town. Really enjoyed walking around and taking in the UNC hoops history. A must if you are a fan.

Very interesting place. The host and greeters at the museum are volunteers and are very welcoming and provide helpful information.

Don't be fooled by the size...they pack a lot of artifacts and visuals in the limited space...over 2 hours of engaging pictures, videos, and photo-friendly backdrops

We had some time to kill and came to the museum. First parking is confusing because you have to pay and you have to enter your spot number. Most spots don't have a number. Another visitor said only the first 8 spots have numbers and they are the only spots for visitors. So we moved the car. We spent less than 30 minutes there so an hour on the meter is plenty.
We started with a 5 minute movie then visited the different rooms. My son thought it was awesome. He loved the Tar Heels. We went through rather quickly but you could spend a little longer reading the info. And there were lots of videos you could see at every stop
Afterwards we went to the arena. They said if either door at gate a was open we could go in. They were doing a summer camp so we were able to go in and walk around. Everyone was so friendly. It was great
After we drove to the bookstore to get some shirts
A nice way to spend a few hours

I watch the Carolina Basketball on television. It is time to go there. Education and fun for all ages. I took my nephew. And not want to leave. He is a teenager and loves basketball. We spent four hours there. And carefully looked at everything. I am glad to went there. Everybody work there is nice.

For anyone interested in The University of North carolina basketball (the Tar Heels), this museum on the UNC-CH campus near the Dean Smith Center is a MUST! Photographic displays, trophies and memorabilia abound. The museum is open to the public without charge, but you'll need to know the hours when it is open (call 919-962-6000 or 919-962-1154. You'll need an hour or so to view everything in the museum, but any fan of the program (or a fan of any college basketball team) will enjoy the visit. While there, you should also visit the Dean Smith Center next door. That's where the Tar Heels play their home games.

It’s a must see if you like NC basketball and the superstars the program has let us watch over the years. This is a free museum that starts with a five minute video. Then you are on a self guided tour through the museum.

REally enjoyed all of the information given, the tour is well worth attending. Great basketball coverage, great school!

We loved our visit to this museum. If you are a fan of college basketball, this is a must stop. They do a great job showing off the history of UNC basketball.

Took my teenage son here while my daughter was touring UNC. We passed a solid 45 minutes checking out all of the memorabilia and stories - definitely a worthwhile stop on our trip

Great museum with great memorabilia from their many wins on the court. Especially liked the footprints on the floor (made to look like a basketball court) showing from where certain winning shots were made. Also enjoyed the case devoted to Michael Jordan. Lots of interesting things to see for basketball fans, even those who are not rabid fans like me!

ONE WORD........................BREATHTAKING!!!! First off let me say that I am a huge UNC fan and I have been for many years. However I live in northern Illinois so I never thought I would have the chance to visit the campus........but we did.
On our way home from our cruise vacation we stopped in Chapel Hill for 2 days. The Carolina Basketball Museum is a basketball lovers dream. There are displays for Dean Smith, Roy Williams, Bill Guthridge, James Worthy, Michael Jordan, and my all-time favorite Tar Heel Tyler Hansbrough. There are championship trophies and rings, Jordan's acceptance letter from UNC, and players game worn shoes and uniforms.
I have been to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts. The Carolina Basketball Museum is so much better. You don't have to be a UNC fan to appreciate this museum. I was in awe from the moment I walked in.

This was one of the nicer surprises while visiting UNC for the day. It is a free museum that is nicely laid out and very informative. We did the self guided tour that starts with a nice introductory film. Worth a couple hours visit while in the area!

This place is amazing! It's a little difficult to find but once we were inside we were amazed at all the years it covered. We were there at least 2.5 hours and loved every minute of it.

I went to this museum expecting it was a bigger place. But it's organized and covers a great part of UNC's basketball history. I am not a big fan of basketball but I had good time there.

A great museum dedicated to showcasing a great college basketball program - UNC Tarheels. This museum is jam packed with memorabilia. If you a a basketball fan (even if not a UNC fan) you will love this museum. Takes you back to the players, coaches and NCAA college basketball highlights. You will not be disappointed - guaranteed!

The ultimate pilgrimage for a Tar Heel BBall fan. Top class sports museum and all for the love of the Heels. No visit to basketball heaven would be complete without a visit here. GoHeels!

Wouldn't have miss this. Any caliber of basketball fan will appreciate this museum. It is free of charge. The hostess will be very informed. The exhibits are so entertaining and enthralling. One can place himself right in the moment.

Phil Ford, Kenny Smith, Antwan Jamison, Vince Carter, Eric Montross, Tyler Hansbrough, Ty Lawson, Rick Fox, Larry Brown, Justin Jackson, Joel Berry II... and the legendary Michael Jordan. Many of these former, current, and future NBA players made their paths by playing basketball wearing Carolina blue. Many of them found success by helping build success for Tar Heel basketball. The Carolina Basketball Museum is where anyone, particularly die-hard Tar Heels' fans such as myself can bask in Tar Heel glory.
The best thing about this place is that you don't have to pay a single dime. That's right! You can walk in and start checking out the museum. It's amazing when you can go to a sports museum without having to pay for anything.
The museum is set up well. As you enter the museum, you go through a hallway of current players (the 2017 National Champs!!!!). As you enter the main museum, you will be dazzled by the championship trophies, especially if you LOVE Tar Heels like I do. It's amazing that you can be a few inches of each championship trophy. For those of you not a Tar Heel fan, the team has won six trophies (technically seven in 1924)- 1957, 1982, 1993, 2005, 2009, and 2017. It's amazing how this team leads the NCAA in most tournament appearances and as conference championships.
I visited on a Saturday with my oldest daughter. I brought her here to convince her to go to UNC Chapel Hill, which I think that she will go when she graduates from high school. Even so, the hours are limited as the museum closes by 1300 (1pm). I recommend that you go to the museum as early as possible if you go on a Saturday, which opens at 0900 (9am). There's parking across from the museum. You may notice parking tolls, but you don't have to pay for parking on Saturday as a nice campus student told me. If not paying a penny to see this museum doesn't interest you, you must be either loaded with money or extremely cheap.
Frank McGuire, Bill Gutherie, Roy Williams,.. and the legendary Dean Smith. It would take these Tar Heel coaches and many more to help Carolina basketball team to become elite and famous. These men have attracted many fans who BLEED Carolina blue from all over the world. This museum gives fans and anyone a chance to appreciate the rise of Carolina basketball.

What a great job they have done with this. A "must do" for all UNC basketball fans.

Great experience for anyone that love college sports in general and a must if you are a Hoops Junkie. Great opportunity to take your kids on a winter day.

My wife is a huge basketball fan so this was a great stop for her. She said it was by far her favorite stop during our entire trip. The museum is well organized and is very cool. Great to see the history of some of the players including Michael Jordan. Short video at the entrance gives you some background of the program at UNC. The March Madness part is very cool showing all of the trophies and rings from the tournaments. Great place to spend an hour especially if you like basketball. Go Tar Heels!!

This is a really comprehensive and interesting museum, and it is amazing how much they have in there. There are great old videos and momentos, and to stand and look at all of the ACC, NCAA championship trophies is pretty remarkable. It is a must for any basketball fan, whether or not you are a UNC fan.

Bottom line it's about a history of success...legendary winning...the greats! The museum brings it all together and frames it up. You've got to go if your a fan!
It's put together very well.

Free entry to this museum with so much memorabilia and articles on so many players including Michael Jordan whom went to school here.

We were in town and I'm a huge UNC fan so I was showing my child around the campus and we stopped by the basketball court. It wasn't open but one of the employees recommended to me to stop over to the museum. It was so cool, the women sitting at the entrance was adorable and was nice. We walked around and got to see all the trophies and jersey's. Very cool stop especially for a college basketball fan!

Great place to take your kids for the afternoon. If you love basketball, whether Carolina or not, the building is busting at the seams with college basketball history. My son felt like he was in (blue) heaven!

Such a cool place to visit especially if you're a fan of UNC basketball. Lots of cool stuff in the museum and family friendly.

I took my kids here before attending a basketball game. As a Tar Heel alumni, it was really fun to explore the history of the basketball program. It brought back so many memories! It only took us about an hour to complete so it was a perfect way to spend the afternoon before a game.

Reliving the greatness of Tar Heel basketball over the decades is almost enough to tingle the spine of a Blue Devil. A true blue Tar Heel will have to shed a tear of pride. The general fan of collegiate basketball will learn about true sports royalty.

We came upon this gem when we went to visit the Dean Dome. If you like basketball this is a must see. We were very impressed with what was chosen to be added to the museum.

Of you love basketball or Carolina, you must go. Take your kids, your grandparents, a stranger. It's wonderful. Learn the history of what makes Carolina Basketball great.

My kids, daughter 17 and son, 14 really enjoy basketball and we loved this museum. There is so much to learn about Carolina's tradition and basketball history. The displays are put together well- and be sure to watch all of the videos

Loved Carolina Basketball Museum! Great displays of players items and trophys. Really gets your True Blue Fever revved up!

Museum was closed and there was an apology on the door blaming google for not updating "closed for renovations July17 - Sept 4". Since it is already Aug 4 seems UNC technological capabilities should have been able to correct.Advice: call ahead and don't believe everything you read. Also the address is not very useful on google maps. Facing the DeanDome it is in the right side of the second building to your left. A sign at the street side would be so helpful.

If you are a Carolina basketball fan or even a college basketball fan in general, you must visit this place at each once. It's great!

My wife and I arrived right at noon, part of our own walking tour of the campus area. We were greeted right away by the receptionist, and she said we can visit with the lady at the front entrance to the museum. We were then greeted by that lady who had us wait a minute, so we could enter just as the next short movie was starting. I will say that both ladies we had contact with were so very nice to us out of towners. A joy to visit with. They made the visit even that much nicer. Upon entering, you are in a room with a huge video screen. A very cool video plays, and the audio and video quality was amazing. A very nice start to the museum. We enjoyed our visit to the museum. It was well worth the time and effort. I would visit again.

This museum is awesome for any Tarheel fan or basketball fan. So rich in history. The video you watch when you enter gave me chills. I had to watch the video again as we were leaving. All the memorabilia was so unbelievable to see. As we were leaving we spoke with the lady right outside the video room and she raved about her job. She started when the museum opened in 2008 and wouldn’t give the job up for anything. She talked with me and my kids about how Eric Montross and Tyler Zeller would come talk to her. She was so warm and welcoming.

I could have spent all day in this Museum. We were greeted by a very friendly gentleman who welcomed us and was glad to hear we were from Ireland. The first part of the Museum is absolutely awesome and is a fitting start to an absolutely fantastic attraction. The history of basketball and the love for the game is evident. I would go back again in a heartbeat.

Nice free thing to do if you have an hour. Lots of history and great memorabilia. Easy parking across the street but meters only take quarters so come prepared

For a Tarheel fan this is the 2nd best place to be except for a game. Everything you need to know and see about UNC history is in this museum. Best of all it's free but always great to give a donation to keep it available for future generations

If you are a Carolina fan this is the place you need to go to . It has all that has happened in Carolina Basketball for all of the years. All of the rings trophy's .It is a must to see.

My wife is a total Tarheel fan and loves to watch her Heels play in the Dean Dome. We have visited the museum several times before games. Make sure to get there early since they close at least an hour before game time. This museum is a must visit for any ACC basketball fan.

Year by year highlights, memorabilia, video and audio. Check to make sure it's open. Well worthwhile.

Very nice museum. Relatively small so it only takes 1-2 hours. Recommend for any basketball fan. Starts with a movie but it was not working during our visit.

If you are in the Chapel Hill area and are a huge fan of basketball; This is a great museum that showcase a good college basketball program-this is a Must-go place! Even though is mostly about UNC; there is a section where personalities such as MJ history is mentioned. I was impressed but the collection the museum has and I will definitely be back in the future.

I have been three times and every time I love going to the UNC basketball museum. If you are a UNC fan you have to go. It's free and the memorabilia in there is amazing. The video at the beginning gets you excited to enter and see various video stands on players , coaches or important events. They show all the players drafted to the NBA, the ACC championship trophies, the NCAA trophies, and so many other awards. It's incredible. Just go! You will love it.

If you are a Carolina fan you will like tjis museum.
well done, free entry, lots of material, easy access when there are no Smith center events going on.

Didn't think I was going to enjoy this since I'm from PA and a Duke fan but this was really cool. Take the time and walk through, especially if you like college hoops. You can feel the history of the program as you walk around. Nice exhibits!

A must visit for any Tar Heels fan. You could spend hours in here just checking everything out. Wonderful memories of past Tar Heel greats.

You should be a moderate to dedicated basketball fan to go here. However, I am only a moderate basketball fan, but thoroughly enjoyed it. It really explains the basketball program well and highlights the many players that have gone through and their network/family.

We had planned to see the museum prior to attending the Carolina-Va Tech game that we had tickets for. Our understanding is that it was open from 9 AM-1PM on Saturdays. We showed up at 11:30 to learn that on game days it is only open from 9 AM-11AM. So, never got to see it.

We loved our visit to the museum. If you’re a Carolina fan, an MJ fan, or even just a fan of college basketball, you will enjoy visiting. Everything is displayed beautifully. A must see if you’re in the area.

Walked the campus and visited the museum early on game day. The campus is beautiful. Make sure to visit the Carmichael Arena which is where Micheal Jordon actually played. The museum is rich in basketball history. Can easily spend a 1-2 hours going through it so plan accordingly.

This museum is spectacular! Extremely well done.. And I'm a Duke fan. The docent was super friendly and helpful. The movie with surround sound at the entrance gave me chills. UNC basketball history is incredible and very well displayed. More impressive than the basketball hall of fame, in my opinion. If you are a fan of NCAA basketball, this museum is a must visit.

Was an awesome experience as a basketball fan. Thought the museum would be bigger but everything they have in there is really nice.

WOW.. who knew there could be that much basketball stuff. I enjoyed looking at all the playoff diamond rings. Great thing to do if you have extra time before a game.. and its free

It's a great museum - lots of video clips, game balls, uniforms. And it's free! Great look at the program as a whole, not just recent stuff.

Interesting place that doesn't take very long to see. The Michael Jordan recruiting letters were most fascinating!

Lots of basketball history. Lots of videos, pictures and stories. and of course much information about Michael Jordan and coach dean smith.

The history of basketball would not be what it is without UNC. The museum was absolutely breathtaking and ultra-rich in history about basketball as a whole with emphasis (of course) on North Carolina and it's rich heritage as champions! Well worth the trip!

It's such a great little museum and they have put a lot of energy into it. If you want to check out where Michael Jordan first played (and even his acceptance letter!) then it's for you. It's free (although obviously a donation never hurts!) and you can park out the front for a few quarters. There is a nice video at the beginning and you can see the memorabilia.

The tradition of the University's basketball program is presented on full display. Every facet of the basketball history is presented, from recruiting battles, epic games won and lost to prestigious rivals and all the legendary players, etc... A good learning opportunity for anyone who likes sport.

It was an absolute dream come true to visit and see some of the artifacts displayed at the museum. As a life long Tarheel fan, seeing and reliving some of the greatest moments in my sports memory was more than I could ask. And to be able to experience this with my son and see the championship trophies was the icing on top. Thank you for making this available.

Great tribute to Carolina Basketball. filled with a ton of memorabilia. Truly enjoyed visiting with my 10 yr old son. No admission charge.

The location is very hard to find and parking can be terrible but if your a Carolina Basketball fan you must visit despite the challenges!

This is a great little museum, packed with Tar Heel memorabilia. A must see for any NC fan. Kind of hard to get to with all the construction in the area. I am assuming this will be all cleaned up before the 1st football game.

If you love college basketball, this is an amazing museum. If you're a UNC fan, it probably should go on your bucket list. Very well done and informative. Don't miss it.

If you wish to visit Basketball greatness, then please do stop by the Carolina Basketball Museum. This is the ultimate pilgrimage for all things Carolina basketball. The amount of memorabilia that they have collected and displayed is impressive, but what's even more impressive is the way that they have laid out the museum which allows everyone to experience Tar Heel basketball. If you want to stand in the spot on the floor where MJ shot the ball for the win, it's marked so you can have the whole experience. This is a great experience for the young and the old and everyone in between.

Nice visit with my 2 teen boys. Spent almost 2 hours here. Friendly staff to get us started. Displays and videos very fun to watch. Need shades on back windows so screens will show up better.

A walk through the history of UNC basketball. Movies, uniforms,trophies...great for all ages...not to be missed !

Trophies, acceptance letters, shoes, jerseys, highlight video. This place is a UNC basketball fan's dream. The size is just about right for now but i could easily see it expanding as needed in years to come. Go on a non-game weekday to avoid the crowds. Then you can linger to your heart's content.

If you visit Chapel Hill and UNC, the basketball museum is a must. The history of the best univeersity basketball program in the country is beautifully presented, organized and is great for all ages. i brought my grand sons age 8 and 12 and they were thrilled.

If you have ever enjoyed March Madness, especially the matches the UNC Tar Heels were in, this is your type of museum. There are videos of Tar Heel games to play on demand, sections of floors from National Championship Wins, sneakers, jerseys, letters, trophies, rings, and things from the greats including Jordan, Perkins, Worthy, Stackhouse, Wallace, etc, etc, etc. My favorite was the letter from Dean Smith to Michael Jordan on how he could improve his game. Second favorite is the letter from Coach K expressing regret to Michael that he didn't choose Duke. (Oh my...) If your child likes basketball there are exhibits for them. (Play the last minutes of the 1982 championship game or look for those basketball shoes displayed in the floor.) Then there is the 'Trophy Room' where the rings and things (Trophies) are on display. Get this, it's free and next to the Smith Center. Just be sure to park in a meter spot across the street. Hours are limited but they are usually open on HOME Basketball Game Days. (Don't know why I waited so long to see this. You can really get lost in the trivia.)
NORMAL MUSEUM HOURS (aka not game days)
Tuesday-Friday, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Saturday, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Wonderful museum dedicated to UNC basketball and their long history of greatness in the ACC and NCAA

Absolutely positively amazing
Very well laid out
If you want to know about UNC history of basketball this is it
Museum inside and out is very well-kept and clean
Would be nice if the hours were extended a little bit longer on Saturdays

The Carolina Basketball Museum focuses on the University of North Carolina basketball team, with a few other articles here and there. The museum is located next to the Koury Natatorium and the Dean Smith Center. The museum is on one floor and is smaller than what I expected. Make sure to check on the opening hours, as they are not always accurate on their website or the University's. I visited during the football's Homecoming game, and they had their hours posted as 0900-1300 for that Saturday on its webpage. However when I got there, the sign on the door said it closed at 1100 giving me only about 30-40 minutes.
As it turned out, that was all the time I really needed to see everything. There were a lot of articles and items to view about the program, which was nice but didn't really didn't bring the passion of college basketball as what one would've expected. If you are short in time, I would recommend skip the introductory video which is showed when you enter. I was scratching my head trying to figure out why I was watching former players call themselves Tar Heels.
If you are attending a football or basketball game and are looking for something to kill some time, this museum is worth considering. Otherwise I wouldn't go out of my way to go there.

If you are interested in college basketball and know about the UNC TarHeels, this is the place to go. Everything you ever wanted to know about the TarHeels is at your fingertips. It is quite an adoration of the program and some of its greatest players and coaches.

Informative, touching and dear to our hearts. We love this museum! It provides better understanding of the history of Tarheel basketball.

I am not a sports enthusiast by any means, but I do love museums and learning new things. This museum is small but is chock full of interesting information. So glad we stopped in.

This is a first class (just like the Tar Heels) museum and a must see for all fans...even dookies will be in awe of what they see. The memorabilia that's on display is incredible and I didn't want to leave...had to be dragged out. The videos were also great and I will be back to visit again the next time I'm in Chapel Hill.

The UNC Basketball Museum is world class. It is a well done display of the history this storied program in a first class setting.
Admission is free - which is very nice. My son and I toured in about an hour - which included us watching about four of the videos.
The Dean Smith and Michael Jordan sections are - as one would expect - the most visited. These are presented in a manner that informs without overwhelming.
A true joy is to see the many trophies, programs, tickets, basketballs, and rings commemorating the many championships UNC has won.
The only downside - as it on a major university parking is an issue. I called the museum and they pointed out there were eight parking meters and a lot - I never really found either and "borrowed" a spot being used for graduation practice - in all seriousness - think about parking in advance.

A free museum that has everything Carolina fans would want to see! Great videos (motion activated), uniforms, trophies, rings, and much more! Don't miss it if you are in Chapel Hill!

Authentic memorabilia from the Tar Heels past victories and personalities. Videos of key plays are included. A must see for Tar Heel fans.

If you ever have time to get to a game early please go check out this historical landmark. Every Tar Heel fan needs to witness this amazing collection of Tar Heel artifacts. Even non-Tar Heel fans can appreciate the items to view here.

This visit was a slam dunk!
When looking for things to do in the area, I was thrilled to come across this museum! Being a long time Michael Jordan fan, nothing makes me happier than seeing where he hailed from. The museum was a basketball court with loads of memorabilia. So awesome to see bits and pieces of his life leading up to the man and amazing ball player he became! Many other ball players represented as well. A great place to visit!

Very well done. If you are a fan of basketball or sports in general you will enjoy this experience. If you have followed the Heels it's much more than that, as it ties lifelong memories together.

I walked in with some trepidation about spending time inside the museum on a beautiful day. But I really enjoyed learning about the history of Carolina Basketball and understanding more about why my boyfriend is so invested in the team. I can't wait to go to a game!

If you're a TarHeel fan this stop is a must. It's free, historical, informative and well layed out. We were greeted at the door followed by a short video and a leisurely review of UNC b-ball history! Plan at least an hour. Great for ages 12&up!

Be sure to wear UNC blue when visiting the museum-- great experience reading about the winning streaks-- wished there was more live video coverage to augment all the memorabilia. Don't miss this museum when touring UNC campus!

The Carolina Basketball museum is the best place to learn about the history of Tar Heel Basketball. In the shadows of the Dean Dome, the museum is a perfect place for basketball enthusiasts and Carolinians to learn about the beautiful sport and its glorious past.

I had read about this museum on trip advisor! We loved it and enjoyed all the exhibits! It is really neat that the used the floor from the old arena in the museum. My son liked the Michael Jordan exhibit since he is a big fan of his! This place is a must visit if you are a sports fan!

I loved to see the history of Carolina Basketball. I remember these players, these coaches and they were a part of growing up in Eastern NC. It was a great visit for parents and kids.

Thoroughly enjoyed this museum, and I am not die-hard Tar Heel fan. Layout of the museum was excellent; lots of interesting displays without being crowded. Staff was very friendly. No entrance fee; just a requested donation. Parking was a bit challenging.

I could have jumped for joy when I actually got to go inside this fantastic basketball museum! I love The Tarheels 💙! I have followed them for years and years. It was so exciting to see their trophies, rings and awards!! It was laid out in a slick way. You were on the basketball court. Each exhibit was done well. I hated to leave. This is a place I KNOW I will be back to visit!!

this is wonderful place to visit if you love college basketball. Dean Smith was one of the best college coaches ever and ran the best program of any in college basket ball. Take a trip down memory lane and revisit college basketball before it became a minor league for the pros .

If you are a University of North Carolina basketball fan then you have to experience this museum first hand. History at your fingertips!

I rated this a 5 as a Tar Heel fan, a little prejudiced but never the less, this is a well organized exhibit. There are a lot of self activated presentations giving the great history of this program. Also some very interesting memorabilia.
Note: It closes at 5 pm except on nights when there is a home game when it stays open until an hour before the game. It’s free and definitely a must do to start off your game!

What an experience to see the videos, the uniforms and awards. It was an exciting time and we enjoyed reliving the thrills.

The most complete history of UNC basketball fortunes, written and visual. A most helpful volunteer initiated us before the tour. Thank you!

I went here knowing this museum had a high Trip Advisor rating and the price of admission was free, so I thought, "How bad can this be?" The answer when I walked out was, "Actually, it was really awesome!"
The museum looks very new, and it is right next to the "Dean dome", at the far south end of campus. They start you out with a sort of emotional and exciting 4.5 min video about how special UNC basketball is. Then, you go into the main museum room, which has interactive flat screen tv displays and memorabilia intuitively grouped by player or topic. They really put a lot of great touches into this room: the TV's that are activated when you stand in front of them, interactive touch screens, a real basketball court with spots marked from which important memorable game-winning shots were made... All really cool!
There is a separate March Madness room with all of UNC's storied playoff history. Again, just really neat.
It spent about an hour or hour an a half walking through.
I would absolutely suggest lifelong fans and college basketball novices alike to visit this museum. Basketball is a big part of this town and University, and it makes sense that they would memorialize it in this unique way!

Even if you are not a fan of the UNC Tarheels Basketball program you will be impressed by tour of this museum. You are surrounded by historical happenings that brought changes to all of collegiate basketball. Coach Smith was an inspiring coach and a phenomenal life lessons teacher. You will leave the museum with new found respect for this man that believed in his God, his university and those young men that were lucky enough to play on his teams. He is the type of coach and teacher that we need to see in the classroom today. Not to mention he was the only man to keep Michael Jordan controlled on the basketball court

If you follow basketball - college or NBA - don't miss this museum in Chapel Hill. So many stars in the NBA came from the Tarheel team.
You can spend hours here - I have done so with many visiting friends and family members too. They were all pleasantly surprised at how much they learned. Tarheel fans were enthralled.

For someone that loves Tar Heels basketball this was a great experience. For someone that getting to understand basketball, this is a great place. Uniforms shoes nets and other items are here to look at. Short video is played before you go in and that is wonderful. I just can’t say enough about this place.

The museum was great not only for a UNC fan but a fan of college basketball. Especially if you are there for a game.

Carolina basketball fans will rejoice in seeing the six national championship awards, along with other memorabilia -- jerseys, basketball shoes and the like -- in this on-campus museum. Free and compact; won't take long to go through, but filled with great memories.

This is a visit down memory lane...a real history of Tarheel basketball...brings you back to many, many exciting times. Tells about the great Dean Smith & Roy Williams asc well as many of the great players...a most enjoyable place to visit

We visited this museum during our stay in Chapel Hill and were completely blown away at the memorabilia and history here. It is completely free, but a donation box sits at the entrance/exit. They have all 5 of UNC's National Championship trophies, and an impressive collection of other things. The first thing you do is watch a 4-minute video on UNC basketball. Then, you exit that room and enter a room where most of the items are exhibited, a half-court replica of the Smith Center floor and a basket. I loved all of the videos as well. They had a huge draft board that showed all of the UNC 1st round draft picks in the NBA. They also had lots of memorabilia showcasing all eras of Carolina basketball, from Jordan to Hansbrough to the 1950s. Even the non-sports person in our family really enjoyed it. I strongly suggest a visit here for anyone in the Chapel HIll area.
Side Note: Parking is kind of a pain... you park across the street in a metered lot, and then cross the street and enter the Williamson Athletic Center.
Definitely plan to spend anywhere from 1-3 hours here.

This visit was very special to me, being a Carolina basketball fan since I was a child and always wanting to visit campus. I was so excited to experience this with my daughter and the museum didn't disappoint. Everything was so inspiring, took tons of pictures, getting to see all the history of Carolina Basketball was incredible. To top it all off...it's free!! Will definitely visit again.

My son and I spent a great day at the museum. It brought back so many memories for me as a kid watching the Tarheels. It also has a huge collection of items from more recent players that my son idolizes. Very well done and highly recommended.

Give yourself time for this reading and video exhibit..... great when attending a game or coming through chapel hill.

We went once before a basketball game. I have to say it was impressive. I have worked with the University and the athletic department providing deejay and emcee services and have always been proud to be associated with UNC (also a 1983 graduate). Knowing some of the coaches, players and others represented here was an extra thrill for me and sharing with my friends and family was great. GO HEELS!

So much history to see and you will want to visit it again.

Can't wait to take my son who is a basketball fan to see the marvelous exhibits here. It's fun to see the well-known star players who went on to the NBA from Carolina

If you are any kind of sports fan and you love basketball, then this is a must see and do place in Chapel Hill, NC. It has all the lore of the whole program and all the exciting players that played for this program as well as Mr. Dean Smith who was an ICON in itself.

I do not follow basketball, but my son enjoys it and went to this museum with him. Very nice, clean, modern museum with tons of interesting and fun artifacts. Many jerseys on display, rings, notes rom Michael Jordan's high school coaches, etc. Very, very well done, and a nice walk through this part of campus with lots to see. Be sure to check out the indoor arena also. We also visited the building where the coaches offices, etc are.

The Carolina Basketball Museum is a fantastic tribute to one of the most successful college basketball programs ever. If you are in town for a basketball game or visiting the Smith Center for any other reason, it is definitely worth a stop since admission is free!
The museum has tons of memorabilia and items from every era in UNC basketball history, from the 1924 Helms Foundation national champion team to recent teams. In the museum are championship trophies, championship rings, letters to and from players and coaches, shoes and jerseys from big games, and things you wouldn't have even thought would be there.
My favorite part of the museum was getting to see rare, high quality video footage of some of UNC's early Final Four teams (1948, 1957, and 1967-1969). I spent an hour here and enjoyed it a great deal. It is definitely one of the most fun things to do in Chapel Hill if you are a basketball fan.

Nice stop if you are on campus or in the Chapel Hill area. It is small but jam packed with Tar Heel basketball history of coaches and players. There is a lot of memorabilia as well as some interesting videos. Very nicely maintained. Free but there was a donation box at the entrance. There are a few metered parking spaces directly across the street. The employees were very friendly, informed and passionate about their Tar Heels.

What a cool Museum. It's not very large but it's got some great stuff inside. I really loved seeing the Roy Williams practice notes, the National Titles and the interactive video displays. It's free so there really no reason not to stop if you are in the area.

If you are a Tarheel fan, this is a must! Beautiful, modern building and plenty of Tarheel paraphenalia. Make time to visit and to see any available videos/movies. Check it out!

We took our 9 year old sons here and they loved it and was great motivation for them to look forward to college and playing sports. They would love to be future UNC students. :) My husband also loved it and you get to see some memorabilia from Michael Jordan before he became a Bull. Fun to visit and it is free!

Soo very disappointed to finally visit Chapel Hill only to find almost no traces of Michael Jordan at UNC. Went to the campus bookstore to look for some memorabilia and there was nothing...Went to the Carolina Basketball Museum and it was very good...I enjoyed it but was once again struck by the fact that there is virtually no Michael Jordan memorabilia. Having accepted this, the museum is still well worth the visit and if you like NCAA or UNC basketball a "must see".

Visited here yesterday before the UNC basketball game, only had about 45 minutes to go through the museum, that is NOT enough time. There is soo much to see and read. Very well done !!! Will definitely
re-visit when I am back in town.

If you are a basketball fan of any age you will love this place! From Michael Jordan to Tyler Hansborough this museum has it all!

Really well done collection! Give yourself about an hour to take in everything. Super convenient to do before a game, but gets more crowded on game day of course

Located close to the Dean Dome. Great way to spend an hour or so on game day! Call or go online to check hours before traveling.

Nice tribute to the best college team. It would have been nice to have the Dean Smith Center open as well. Great for families

The basketball museum is great if you want to get a taste of the university's love of the sport. It is a small museum but gives insight into the deep basketball tradition. Highly recommend - the museum is free, but parking can be tough. You don't need a lot of time - an hour or two max to visit.

Although not a Carolina fan. I was more than impressed with what they have done. Very interesting layout with the court and how significant "shots" are laid out in the court. Like standing in there shoes. Would have liked for the Smith Center to be part of the experience and be open for tours on Saturday. Like I said a must see for any basketball fan. Even a Duke fan!

Perfect museum to memorialize the best basketball program. UNC basketball has played a large role in college basketball fro the coaches to the players. Memorabilia and videos make this a must see. Closed on Sundays.

If you like college basketball - and particularly Michael Jordan - this is a great attraction to mosey through. Go Heels!

The folks at UNC are so cool. They'll just let you walk right in and check this place out!

Great collection of TarHeel memorabilia from the past and recent years. Wonderful how there's great interactive displays.

This Museum is a good trip down memory lane. It is a good bridge from today's heros to the greats of the past.

Stopped by when visiting the area. Well done museum covering the history of UNC basketball. Outstanding exhibits from Dean Smith to Michael Jordan and a great display of national championship trophies. A "must see" stop for the college basketball fan!

Extensive tour of locker rooms and meeting facilities. Sinking a shot on the floor of the Dean Dome was a life time experience. Tour of the extensvie displays in the museum was a fitting and very moving finale.

Even if you are not a Carolina fan, you will be impressed with this wonderful collection of memorabilia from one of the nation's top collegiate programs. This free museum has many video exhibits which explain the importance of most of the things on display.

Great place to get all of your Carolina Basketball history! Family loved it. Nice 4+ minute movie to start off and then all of the memorabilia you can want. Great layout. Love spending time here. A must for any Tar Heel fan.

My husband is a Carolina fan so we made the trip one Saturday. Everything is very organized and arranged in order to make it easy to view. Don't miss the footprints on the floor with a description of the distance where certain winning shots were made.

The Carolina Basketball Museum is on the University of North Carolina campus, right near the Dean Smith Center where the games are played. I brought friends here who are into basketball and they loved it. There are all sorts of artifacts from past and present players. There is a special glass case just for Michael Jordon who went to university here. There are videos, photos, and statistical and historical panels that highlight the history of the Carolina Basketball program. Worth a visit!

What an amazing basketball museum!! You must watch the video at some point during the tour...gives you chills! As adults, my husband and I loved it and our kids (8 and 10) loved it! I'm sure we will visit again when they are older and can better appreciate everything. If you're a basketball fan, even if you're not, this is a must see!! No charge to get in and just around the corner from the baseball and football stadium.

If you're a fan of Carolina Basketball... there is literally nothing like visiting the museum. The history, the memorabilia, the design and setup are great. Standing on a replica basketball court seeing where great shots too place is amazing.

If you are a Carolina Men's basketball fan this is a must see. There is history all over the place going all the way back to the beginning. Plenty of videos and audio to entertain and educate. We could have easily spent 3 hours if we had watched all of the videos. Some of the displays were not working but there was enough for the time we had to spend. The only disappointment I had was there was no gift shop so no memorabilia to remember the visit.

We shuttled to the museum. My husband was determined to visit. It is a beautiful facility. Well documented, great memorabilia and full of Carolina Tarheel pride. An excellent addition to a proud tradition at UNC.

This is a great museum steeped in the wonderful Basketball traditions found at the University of North Carolina.

Good memorabilia for ACC fans , UNC Fans Dean Smith fans everyone should visit. This could be ranked right at the top like the Canton of college basketball. it was free when I visited.

As if Michael Jordan and Dean Smith were not enough, the championships, history, videos, and displays make this place a must see for any lover of college basketball (except Duke alumni).
The facility is beautifully laid out in generations and brings back great memories, certainly for Tar Heels, but any fan of the college game and NCAA tournament.
Reminds one of how great a program UNC has had for approaching 90 years.
Will need some time, especially if you have kids, to take in all the displays, videos, and interactive items.
Lot of fun and very impressive.

I took my son here on our trip to visit family in NC. He is an avid Tar Heel fan! I found it very interesting and is worth a stop if you are in the area!

This is incredible and a must see.👏🏻👏🏻 The history of Tar Heel Basketball is shown so perfectly front start to end in the museum. For true College basketball fans, plan on 1 hour at least in here!

Whether you are a UNC fan or a fan of sports in general, this is a must see attraction. The pictures, memorabilia and trophies were so impressive to see. A must see!

It is a nice place to see the trophies, uniforms, and other memorabilia of UNC basketball legends. It makes one appreciate the school’s efforts to produce great players and maintain an outstanding team. We are fans of Michael Jordan so it was a treat to see a special section for him. The staff is friendly and entrance is free.

This museum has the perfect blend of displays, word, and video. Even if you're not a Carolina Basketball fan, you'll find it really interesting and just a great tribute to so many quality people that are Carolina Basketball. Make sure you make time for this stop!

Great experience if you are a Carolina fan or appreciate Basketball in general. A must see if you are there for a game or in the area.

This is a fascinating place even if you are a casual basketball fan (as I and my wife are). Of course if you are a Tar Heel, you might spend all day here! The opening 5 minute movie of UNC basketball sets up the experience. It was interesting to look at the different displays and read the letters written to Michael Jordan. This is worth a visit (free admission).

Fun and interactive museum next door to the Dean E Smith Center. Spend 30 mins or 2 hours reading the history of UNC Basketball. Great displays and exhibits to view.

I am not a basketball fan, but my husband LOVED this museum. You can spend as little or as much time as you want in here. A short video and lots of memorabilia to look at it. Best of all, it's free. And if the Smith Center which is right next door is unlocked you can go in and look at the arena.

If your a Tar Heel basketball fan this is a most see experience. The museum is free and there are lots of memorabilia and facts to see and view. Trophy's, basketballs, uniforms, suits, you name it it's here. My favorite is the letter from Coach K to Michael Jordan acknowledging his decision to not attend Duke. When you enter the museum and watch the movie before actually entering, the excitement builds and makes you proud to be a Tar Heel fan.
Chapel Hill Basketball Museum
My granddaughter and I visited the University in Chapel Hill. She is a Tar Heel fan so we visited the Basketball Museum, Kenan Stadium and the Dean Smith Center.
The Basketball Museum was awesome! If you love UNC you should definitely visit this museum.
