A Rainbow by the Sea

By Cynthia H |

Rows and rows of ranunculus flowers paint a rainbow across the hillside and seem to stretch to the sea. Jump on a tractor-pulled wagon to ride in style or walk the dirt paths and get up close to the blossoms. Our grandkids loved Santa’s Playground, a whimsical collection of historic play houses and giant mushrooms rescued from Santa’s Village amusement park in Lake Arrowhead when it closed in the 90’s. The best time to go is mid to late April, when the flowers are most abundant.

Beautiful flowers just unbelieveable beauty

By Lloyd H |

We have been there before with our daughter and it was spectacular. We did the ride around your and it was beautiful.. Make sure you go there if you get a chsnce.

Great place ... one of my favorite

By bobN6078XO |

I honestly could live here .. but the price is simply too much for too little.

The ride is nice .. but again .. entrance fee is way overpriced.

Lots of flowers

By John C |

Not as much variety as hoped but impressive amount of ranunculus. Had a sweet pea maze and a small rose garden.

Gorgeous and worth the trip

By AdventureTravelerEM |

Stopped by here on a recent work trip and was pleasantly surprised at how beautiful this was. The great little stop you can spend an hour or a day here it's up to you.

Gorgeous

By frank_oco |

Visited the Flower Fields for a family gathering back in April ‘21. Everything was in full-bloom and so so beautiful! There are many great places for photos, plus a tractor ride and other things to see. Plus, there’s a wonderful Armstrong garden center too :)
If you’re in the area and have an open afternoon, I’d encourage you to stop by and see! Allow yourself at least 45 minutes. The flower fields are also conveniently located next to the Carlsbad Premium Outlets and several dining options.

Spring break

Peaceful & Beautiful—A Perfect Family Morning

By Benjamin H |

We visited the Flower Fields the day after LEGOLAND as part of our son’s birthday weekend, and it was the perfect calm follow-up to a big day. The flowers were breathtaking, the air was fresh, and it was such a peaceful place to walk around as a family. Our toddler loved the tractor ride and open space to explore. Everything was clean, well-maintained, and staff were friendly. A wonderful stop for families or anyone who just wants to slow down and enjoy some beauty.

Must see

By Christin |

This is a must see if you find yourself in Carlsbad. Love the huge american flag flower design. Cost is just under $20 but there is so much to see.

Pretty but very overrated

By Elk H |

We visited with about 25 friends. No parking at all (all full). Very pretty flowers, but highly overrated and way overpriced. We walked the whole place in only 1 hour. Tractor drawn wagon for $5.00 extra is probably worth it. Save your $$ and go sit on the beach. Cheers

Love the flowers

By palpande |

This is a one time visit . The flowers are beautiful. And the tour is cute in a small truck and for around 2 hrs . The fields are muddy so make sure you have a good pair of rain boots or shoes that are washable . Walking distance from the Carlsbad outlet mall .

Lots of Pretty Flowers, not much else

By HappyCampers85 |

Lovely flowers for acres, wagon ride around perimeter, gift shop, lemonade stand, panning for gemstones they plant in buckets of dirt for $5. Not much else for a high entrance fee.

Spring Beauty

By Carol F |

Great spring adventure. Rows and rows of beautiful flowers. Come early since it is a favorite tourist site.

We had a nice stroll

By Jason |

Was a pleasurable stroll with the family. They had a cool maze of flowers and a map for the kiddos to search for things. Smells were nice, scenery amazing, family had a good time.

Every year, during the spring, carlsbad flower fields come to life with beautiful raniculus of Vibrant yellows, whites, reds..the fields attract tourist from all over the world. Carlsbad by the Sea is a small quaint community with many tourist attractions. The fields are just one of Carlsbad's beautiful treasures. The gorgeous ocean views from the fields are spectacular!

Place to see!

Huge fields - almost no flowers

By Lars P |

Bad (my) choise of the season. Nearby all flowet har been harvested. I will have to come back another time. Then maybe I can give og a full score.

A true sight

By Anna |

as I stayed at the hotel which hosts this field every morning I would have my coffee by the window and look out at the flowers. The people who work on them are very nice also and talk to tourists who are nearby.

Great place for a wedding!

By Sid k |

We were here for a wedding....even though the flower fields weren't in bloom yet, the area for the wedding is kept beautiful with foliage and flowers year round. The couple had their reception and lunch in the barn right behind where their ceremony was held. The only drawback with the barn was that it's high ceiling made for not the best acoustics. All-in-all, we had a blast and really enjoyed ourselves!

Awesome!

By 1socalgirl |

What a great way to spend 2-3 hours. Had tickets for 10:00 Monday for the Flower Fields. We walked 2+ miles and enjoyed every bit of it! There are activities for kids and lots of places to take pictures. Totally worth a trip to enjoy the flowers!

Must see.

By Ghassan S |

The entrance fee is worth it if you're into it. Good photography spot. Can take a ride if not able to walk everywhere

A MUST SEE!!!

By Beachesandbrews |

If you think girls are on the beach are the most beautiful thing in southern California then clearly you haven't seen the flower fields in Carlsbad. The place is just as beautiful as the pictures. And yes, it attracts a HUGE crowd, but there was plenty of parking and with 50+ acres there is plenty of room to generously accommodate everyone. This is a spring must see. Don't forget your walking shoes and camera!

Excellent

By Sudha2410 |

The flower fields of Carlsbad are open only for a few weeks every year. We were lucky enough to be in the vicinity and go to see it.
It is truly fabulous. The main flowers are the Ranunculus flowers planted in rows. Apart from those flowers they also grow different other flowers and the experience is amazing. The day we went, we could pick blueberries. This made the experience even more enjoyable.

Absolutely Beautiful

By Kristi A |

One of the few places , you will see so many happy peoples. There are so many truly beautiful flowers here that it will make you smile! Even if you spend a few minutes to all day. The beautiful sights will definitely make you smile. I have been here twice, many years apart, but still want to go back. One of the most beautiful places on earth.

Must See in the Spring

By Jane A |

If you are in Carlsbad in the Springtime you really need to come to the flower fields, plus it is next to LegoLand and the best Outlet Mall in San Diego County.

Must see especially during flower nlossom

By dhaval Patel |

We visited in April and flowers were in season. Good folks there as well

Good with toddlers and family
Take good pics and do a wagon ride

What an amazing display of color.

By Radiohutch |

Recently, Lynn and I and friends visited the Flower Fields. We were treated to 50 acres of fields of flowers. These ranunculus were in all coolers, pinks, yellows, reds, and purples. You can walk the entire property. There are photo stops along the way. It is a great place to take photos. Bring plenty of memory cards. It is open only March through Mother’s Day. Senior admission was $16 each. A must see.

Beautiful scenery

By 4Meza |

The site is like an explosion of colors because of the blooming flowers. It is only open until early May. We paid to go in and enjoyed the walk as opposed to paying to ride the tractor. However, you can get a good view from the street that goes up to Legoland for free (as you can see in the pictures). It was still a nice afternoon.

Beautiful, a not to miss if in the area at the right time!

By Jennifer W |

This is one of the most beautiful flower farms I've ever seen. I loved how the flowers were planted in nice, neat rows, and color coordinated. We were allowed to bring food in and there are many picnic tables to sit at and relax while enjoying lunch and the view. There was a really nice video that played in a barn that is used for weddings and such, that told the history of the flower farm. Just a really, really lovely day! My husband and I both enjoyed our afternoon there. Only complaint - not enough parking. It took all of an hour to find a parking spot, it was bananas!

Impressive flower fields. A lot of activities on offer for visitors of all ages

By ImmerWandern |

Definitely visit if in San Diego during the spring.

We were in town for a limited time and spent the better part of a weekday morning enjoying the spectacular vista of acres and acres of brightly-colored Persian buttercups planted in rows on a gently sloping hillside. It is initially overwhelming as you enter to see all the colors before you. Check the map for the layout of the land. Flower Fields have created convenient cut-aways in the fields for visitors to take pics that make it look like one is completely immersed in the flowers. There isna bench in each cut-away. Signs indicated we were allowed 6.5 minutes at each of the cut-aways but this “enforced” solely by an honor system. As tempting as it is to to immediately start taking pics, take your time, look around, enjoy the cornucopia of color. Nice thing is that these flowers aren’t going anywhere during your visit.

I would suggest taking group/solo/selfie shots from not just the cut-aways but also from the top of the hill and also from the bottom of the hill, creating a background of layered colors of the Ranunculus fields. Also consider taking pics no only while seated on the benches or standing up but also from a low perspective, while kneeling / seated on the ground.

When looking downhill there is no missing the windmill below; while it evokes the Netherlands it is not part of the Flower Fields complex but of the nearby Windmill Food Hall.

Speaking of food, The Flower Fields does not have a restaurant or cafe; it offers a pizza trolley, ice cream at the Sweet Swirls, a Strawberry Shack, and

There are so many potential activities you could definitely devote a whole day to visit. Children will enjoy the maze and playgrounds. Visitors of all ages can have a tour of the grounds on the tractor ride and view the birds in the aviary. Having picked up birding as a pandemic-related hobby in the past year we were definitely of mixed feelings seeing them cooped up. Kids and adults can “mine” for polished colored stones using the sluicing technique of sifting dirt with running water. There are multiple small gardens with specific themes - butterfly, illusion, demonstration - to check out. There’s a poinsettia display; before 1965 it was poinsettias that were grown here. There is a schedule of live music performances. Wine tasting, tea drinking and picnicking amidst the buttercups are activities you need to book ahead of time.

Amazingly Beautiful

By Generalsimp |

It has a peaceful serenity! We walked around. Next time we will ride on the trucks. Enjoy the beautiful photogenic setting

A great way to spend the day.

By Mel C |

Visited middle of March and majorly of the fields are in bloom! Really enjoyed our stroll through the areas, and learned a lot about the monarch butterflies!
Be prepared before going, bring a cap or umbrella to protect from the sun, wear comfortable walking shoes! Minimal benches along the way.
Get hydrated before walking out into the fields, it’s a ways back when you get started! Several mobile toilets along the way before entering the field.
Several areas for children to play.
Stands to purchase drinks if need.
You will not be disappointed. The colours and the stroll are worth it!

Gorgeous

By 484MeganG |

The flower fields were beautiful. We were traveling from Wisconsin and decided to stop on our way from LA to San Diego. Even our 3 kids, aged from 14 to 5 had fun. This would be an amazing place to take family photos!

Flower fields

By Michelle F |

Surrounded by flowers, that's a pretty pic location. Great for postal card pics too, Right next to a mall.

Beautiful colors

By June Y |

The spring flowers are so beautiful. The rows of flowers seem to go on forever. Go through the sweet pea maze, good luck trying to get out on your first try.
Please do not cross the tape around the flowers. You are crushing the flowers when you sit on them to get a picture. There are several spots designed for you to walk out on to make it look like you are in the flowers.
If it is strawberry season, be sure to buy some from the local growers. The have a Stan buy the ticket booth.

Stunning place in March

By Maggie K |

This is quite a site in March with brilliant Ranunculos flowers planted in rows as far as the eye can see. Its adjacent to a landscaping store and there are a few displays available with admission. You can take a wagon tour or walk the grounds. Price of admission is steep for what you get $16 per person. Even if you don't go inside its worth a drive by to see the stunning display.

Beautiful flowers

By Epc0451 |

An unbelievable garden with a wide variety of flowers! The beauty is beyond what you can believe! A great place to spend an hour or two walking through flowers of all kinds!

Don't go before April!

By Sakadah |

The flower fields look spectacular, and they open March 1. We went March 13, and the flowers were nowhere near peak. Given the eye-watering $16 charge to get in, we expected more. There are fun activities for younger kids, but if you go when it's open but not peak season, you could be very disappointed. Since the flowers weren't ready, we asked for a raincheck to come back when they are in full bloom. They declined.

A San Diego Springtime ICON in Carlsbad

By K B |

Just a short ride north along the coast from Downtown San Diego is one it's springtime ICONs The Carlsbad Flowering Fields. In full bloom, it was the best time of the year to visit. This time I was went with my fellow tour guides from the San Diego Tour Guide Association. We chose the Flower Fields as our monthly field trip to see what they had to offer visitors. We were not disappointed. The flowers fields are amazing but the whole grounds has several features for visitors to enjoy too. A great place for large group tours. Plenty of room and several areas of interest . I would suggest at least two hours to get the full experience.

Everyone Should Experience Once

By Deborah Z |

I live in Carlsbad and love our flower fields so much. The tissue-thin petals of Ranunculus flowers look almost too perfect to be real. Their rose-like blossoms come in so many different colors and provide a beautiful backdrop for photos.

Fun day at the fields

By travel_allsn |

We enjoyed the flower fields. There are the flowers on the hills, but also little things along a wall way such as mining for gold, butterfly garden and pea maze. It was a fun way to spend a couple hours.

Beautiful

By TinkerBelly16 |

We purchased tickets online and you can choose what time you can go inside. We arrived earlier than what we scheduled to but they allowed us entry anyway. The flower fields are vast and very pretty. The pictures dont do justice at all at how beautiful they are.

Rows & rows of flowers are planted by color. And they are still developing more fields where they can plant more flowers. They have an American Flag themed flower field too. There is also a trailer ride going to the sunflower fields.

You have to get there early to avoid the heat. It was too hot when we went there. We tried the strawberry lemonade which was made fresh. Also try their popcorn. It was good too!

Better in early spring

By Richard F |

Delightful walk through acres of flowers. Timing is everything; best in early spring. No need to take the tractor ride; the walk around the fields is easy and very pleasant.

Insta-worthy Gorgeous Family Fun

By Reed B |

Our family loved the beautiful fields of color at the Flower Fields on a sunny March day. We started off with the wagon ride (an extra $5 or so) which has a narrated history of the farm, and takes you to the far end of the property. (You can take it back if you want or just walk back, as we did.) There are lots of great props to sit on (benches, large beach chairs, even a tractor!), and with the flowers as a backdrop, you're Instagram hits will soar! (Also a great spot for the fam Christmas photo). The maze was fun to walk through and there are a few other lesser exhibits to see. All in all, great fun for a couple hours, with pix to last a lifetime.

Relaxing view

By Maria T |

At the back of the hotel we're staying there is a walk way that you can see the flower field. At the entrance of the field you will see flowers designed as USA flag.

Chance to view springtime blooms

By Shanelle |

Lived out my cottage-core aspirations at the flower fields. Went the second to the last weekend they were open in 2021, and made reservations online to come in at 9:30am (there’s a 30 min window). There’s free parking onsite and there are bathrooms available at the entrance, as well as various porta-potties scattered around the fields. It drizzled a bit when we went, but the flowers still looked vibrant and we enjoyed our time there. Masks are required and there are lines for you to stand at while waiting to take photos. There are also other things to do like a maze, view the exhibitions (there were poinsettias as well as orchids on display), and even some live music. There’s a strawberry shack for desserts, and you have to eat your food there. There was also a pizza food truck with outdoor dining tables.

You can pay to take a tractor ride, but I think by walking around, you can still take in all of the sights just as well. There were some benches round the fields if you get tired. I’d budget ~3 hours to spend here for the fields, although you could certainly take a whole day. I’d recommend wearing comfortable shoes since you do need to take some uphill climbs, but small heels would be fine. Bring sunglasses, wear sunscreen (a cute straw hat wouldn’t be amiss either), and a fully charged phone for all the photos you’ll take!

Worth A Stop!

By Coloradopegret |

The Fields are open March thru Mother's Day. We spent 4 hours walking including a tractor ride. They have a lot of things to do and the nursery is nice - everything is named there.

Don't visit in early March

By Thomas A |

I'm sure all of the highly positive reviews are accurate during prime season in early April. Just don't visit in March. And, as others have said, the admission price is steep.

We visited on March 4. There were a couple of fields in bloom (maybe 15% of the total 50+ acres) but they are a long walk (maybe 3/4 mile) from the entrance. If you must go and want to see the flowers, consider the $5 tractor wagon ride though you won't have more than five minutes to see the flowers. Seems like in March those tractor wagon rides should be free .

Some of the advertising refers to a huge American flag which is made of petunias. I bet it looks great from the air if landing at Carlsbad airport in the right direction. You can't see it at all from the ground.

None of the side attractions were open either. Disappointing day.

Amazing fields of flowers

By Robert N |

We were there in April, all the flowers were in bloom.Acres of various colors . Was an amazing sight. Well run place. Worth the admission price. The whole area around San Diego was in bloom with wild flowers and flowering shrubs etc. is a very beautiful area and the ocean drive is nice also.

Beautiful

By Wesley G |

The flower fields were beautiful with all the Ridonculous flowers in full bloom. We took the tractor ride to the top and walked around then down to one of the rose to get close-up pictures of us with the flowers. It’s a beautiful sight to see that many flowers it reminded us of Skagit Valley up in Seattle area. We had a strawberry treat while we were there and that is quite expensive to have that type of a treat but they have a captive audience so they can charge what they want. It was fun to walk through the sweet pea maze and to watch the history of the flower fields on a video. If someone had a few extra hours and didn’t mind paying $18 for admission, it’s a wonderful way to spend half a day enjoying nature and what man has done with their stewardship. I don’t know that I would be back but I would suggest it for anybody that has never been

a great place to visit in season

By walkingdestinations |

Carlsbad located about 34 miles north of San Diego. We arrived on Sunday morning, early before the parking lot was full and we spent about 2 hours taking a lot of pictures. the place is beautiful and we enjoined it very much.

Like you are in heaven!

By normaredk |

What a glorious flower field. The colors and blooms are truly magnificent. We took the wagon ride which was only $5.00 more and they took us all around which really helped with all the walking to view everything. I would definitely see this on a day outing. It makes you feel heavenly.

Flower Fields

By Janet B |

we went on Opening Day March 1, so only 10% of their 50 acres of Ranunculus Flowers were in bloom: and thus it was 1/2 price!

it was a long walk to the field that was in bloom, or take a $5 wagon ride. there were workers picking the flowers, grown for sale. the flower fields were beautiful!!! at the entrance, there are birds, rose gardens and snapdragon gardens. orchid greenhouse and children's playground too.

Breathe taking

By LeeAnnaPitts |

A must see in San Diego. Absolutely gorgeous! A flower lovers delight!! Truly. Easy parking and a wonderful shop attached.

Flowers of color

By 96Deanna96 |

Well this time of the year it was a bit cooler and with all the rains, we were disappointed that all the flower fields were not in bloom. We did use the wagon ride, we are seniors, and with some disability, but others had to pay, perhaps that is a surprise to the younger set, and those with children. Anyway, we only saw one large parcel of flowers, and then did walk within the exhibits, and the beautiful garden areas. They have so many areas for sitting down, relaxing and to just stroll about the different garden themes. This time I noticed they had a couple of food trucks which is great, to sit, eat and enjoy the areas.
The garden shop is beautiful and so tempting for garden lovers. Bathrooms are carefully placed in areas that are clean and comfortable. Hope you enjoy the blooms!!

Choose Well Your Time to Visit

By Joseph C |

My fiancé is not well, but wanted to ride the tractor to see the flowers. The staff once acquainted with her frailty put us at the front of the line. We thanked them later. I would choose well your time of visit for many acres had bloomed earlier Not to say there was not much to see, but when I visited last year there were so many more rows of flowers. So much that workers were cutting bunches of them at that time. You visit would not be complete without a visit to the poinsettia exhibit. And don't forget to walk over to the American Flag planting.
My son and I even talked about having a double wedding at the site.

Almost 38 football fields huge

By on_the_go_98765 |

All things considered, the 50 acres make for a fun filled 1/2 day outing. The entry fee of $18 ($16 for seniors, etc.) is pretty steep but the flowers are so worth a little extra $$$.

The flowers start blooming March 1st and continue through the end of May. Our mid-April visit saw them at their peak of beauty.

The fields of Ranunculus blooms are carefully planted in perfect rows of gorgeous colors. Roam the fields on the paths, maybe take advantage of some of the props staged for picture-taking, and admire the views with the ocean in the distance.

The grounds consist of the growing fields, some specialized structures filled with unusual plants (like cymbidiums, pointsettias, etc.), a wedding gazebo, children's playground, learning center, aviary structures, and a number of pricey food options.
School groups come here on field trips; they bring a lot of energy!

There's also a hay wagon (without the hay) ride for $5 pp and that will take visitors around the fields, with some narration. In a distant part of the field, we saw blueberries growing on the shrubs.

A video we saw said he flowers are sorted by seed and very carefully kept separated by color. The bulbs are harvested and shipped all over for home garden cultivation.

Our trip to the Outlet Mall (this field is adjacent to the Mall) was so much more enjoyable with this flower fields stop.

You can take just so many pix not worth $16 per person

By nitpicky-traveler1 |

Very beautiful from afar. The flowers are very colorful and great for photos but at $16 a person for adults and $8 per child??? No way! These flower fields used to be free until someone found a way to make money of everyone who wanted to take a photo. I would pay maybe $5 to go take some photos and be done in less than 20 minutes. Not much else to do. Don't waste your money.

The Flower Fields

By Oscartess |

If you're a nature lover, this place is an excellent place for you to see! The different-colorful flowers are so delightful and pleasing to the eye! Just imagine the fragrance of the flowers that surround you. This is an attraction where you can just relax or go for a walk and extensively admire the beautiful flowers. When Spring time is here, don't let the opportunity pass you by. Go visit the Carlsbad Flower Fields!

Nice fields

By DENISE L |

So it’s Definetly beautiful but a bit pricey. Went on a Fri afternoon a lot of ppl and yes line gets long . Not sure what happens if you are late . Would say famil, solo and couples can do it’s very large the tractor ride literally just takes you around the fields , doesn’t make any stops . I walked it all very doable . Be prepared to take pics and have pics taken it has many areas and fun insta worthy areas to take pics. As no one posts about how long it takes I did it in about 1.5 hrs ,with kids prob a lot longer . They sold lemonade and coffee and popcorn they also had an ice cream stand . Again lines may get long

Pleasant afternoon

By SueVirginiaBeach_Va |

The tractor was a good way to see the fields but it's an additional $8 per person after a $25 entry fee. The butterfly encounter is cute but it's another $5. It made for a pleasant day but the fees were excessive

It’s electric.

By Monique A |

The super bloom has been in full effect in California and the Carlsbad flower fields are not to be missed.

Come early, or late, the crowds are crazy. Similar to our national parks, walk a bit further, head out towards the end of the fields and you will have the magic and serenity of the fields to yourself.

There is soft serve ice cream, rotating food trucks, a sweet pea maze and even Mimosas!

If you are bringing the whole family, you can take a Tractor ride around the fields for those who prefer not drive.

Worth the price of admission, and then some.

Spring time flowers

By brp6926 |

Beautiful, something to see. Nice family fun day. Gorgeous pictures , definitely a spring time favorite.

Beautiful even from a distance

By marciehmay |

It is beautiful but you can see most of it from the road and even the outlets nextdoor. No need to pay a fee to walk it.

Must visit in San Diego

By regis k |

Absolutely the best place to visit while in San Diego. Carlsbad Flower Fields are easy to spot as you travel along the San Diego freeway. The flowers have been blooming in the hills above the Pacific ocean for over fifty years. Just like the tulip fields in Holland and the cherry blossoms in Japan, this flower field is a must visit for flower enthusiasts. It opens to visitors from March to May. It has receiving visitors for more than 40 years. With international travel restrictions due to the pandemic, we decided It's time for us to re-discover North San Diego's world-renowned spring experience for the blooming of 50-acres of ranunculus flowers at The Flower Fields in Carlsbad! To visit the flower field, we first had to order our tickets in advance and booked our time slot. The ranch only allows limited number of people in at a giving time slot. So it's advisable to book the tickets at least two days in advance. Weather is a bit hot during this time of the year. So dress light and bring plenty of water. Although there a few shops inside serving food and drinks as well as ice cream, lines tend to be long. In addition, Antique Tractor-Wagon rides are available, transporting visitors around the planted fields, stopping off to let folks walk around and enjoy the scenery, and picking them back up are returning then to the start point. It's perfect for families with young children and elderly. For the convenience of taking pictures, the ranch had setup photo platforms extending into the flower field. Lines are long on these spots. There are also a few spots with green platforms and stands that's ideal for taking selfie. One of my favorite such spot is in front of the fountain with a perfect flower field as it's backdrop. For an epic photo of the flower field with the wind mill and the Pacific Ocean in the background, it's surprising that you can take such photo on Amanda Dr. that's north east of the flower field without an entrance fee. There are plenty of parkings here. Like every year , We had a good time at the ranch this time.

Beautiful flowers and photo ops!

By calgal405 |

The flowers here are breathtaking and are even more beautiful up close. The staff have done a great job here making this a place to stop. I would suggest 30 minutes to an hour here. SoCal is known for their Super Blooms of wildflowers but this is a maintained and seemingly year round display that will not disappoint. The rainbow display of colors is amazing!

Must Visit

By lvnvproperties |

Wife’s favorite place to go in all of San Diego says something...Mid March to mid April best time to visit

Soooo many flowers!!!

By The_Sharks88 |

Gorgeous place, but hard to get a great picture. We got there right during peak hours so it was very busy and people are totally unaware that others are trying to get pictures too. I also wish the flowers were all mixed together - instead of having rows of the same colors. Not to mention all the flowers are the same type.. would've been nice to see more variety. Still a must-see though!

Viewing the Flowers

By krhutman |

By the time we arrived in Carlsbad, the season was over and the gates were closed. We walked up to hotel behind the flower fields and had a chance to view what was remaining. It was a much smaller operation, but it was still lovely. I hope we will be there next year in time when we go to visit our children.

I've seen better gardens at the local hospital

By Lunette F |

I can't believe I paid $35 for my daughter and me to see a few funky flower beds. We both laughed to think people find this place "Stunning". The best part for me was talking with the butterfly lady and learning about the Monarch but there was nearly nothing to see. I, also, enjoyed watching the caged birds flutter around but it was not worth the fees.

Beautiful spot for blooms and photos

By katetahirah |

Just before my trip to San Diego, I heard about the Flower Fields. Several locals swore they were well worth the trip, and they were correct. I'm from the Northwest, and I must say it was nice to enjoy spring flowers that weren't muddy! This is a very popular place, so be patient to find parking and wait to take pictures. Bring sun protection, a water bottle, and some change if you'd like snacks or food. The owners of the fields have well thought out the needs of guests; there are shady spots aplenty, lots of seating, plenty of things for all ages to do, and lots of accomodation for people of all ages and physical abilities. This is a great place for people watching, it's visited by locals and tourists alike.

Photography Dream

What a spectacular display of Ranunculus flowers. For a far as you could see in either direction. Lovely areas to eat or picnic Great for families or dates.

Great view

By Paulina Q |

Spent family time in a very colorful field with a precious flowers, every space was filled with different kind of flowers!!! Loved this place!!!

Right time of year

By Rob K |

We have been to SoCal in the fall but were luck to arrive this time in the spring right when the flowers were in full bloom. A wide stretch to hillside gardens full of multicoloured flowers. They also had many interpretive stations, a rose garden, wagon rides and a sweet pea maze. Many volunteers were there to help out.

Spectacular Sight!

By grlgrdgate |

It was our first time visiting the flower fields, and I am so happy we did! Colorful, beautiful, relaxing, and fun, a stop at the flower fields is a great way to spend a couple of hours if you are in the San Diego area.

Unique and beautiful garden

By jester5555 |

We went to see the flower fields when we stayed in Carlsbad over my daughter's spring break. The pictures don't do these fields justice. The fields of flowers are huge and colorful. We stayed and took photos from the road above the field.

Flowers galore!

We took our kids here after visiting Legoland and this was such a treat for the kids to take a ride in the back of the tractor trailer. It's about a 10 minute ride through the field of flowers. If you want, you can be out of here in 20 minutes or you can take your time and enjoy the scenery. They sell soft serve ice cream and only accept cash. There is a garden supply store selling knick knacks and things for your garden. We stayed for 30 minutes but was in my opinion much more enjoyable than Legoland.

Love the colors

By RanitaGhoshDastidar |

Find the right time to see the blooms and it will be spectacular. Great place to go with families and kids.

Beautiful picture spot

By Bonnie W |

We live locally and went for my grand daughters 18th birthday. She is really special to spend the day with her family and cousins. It’s a big hike and well worth it. They have picture spots and a tram to drive you around if you like. There are benches located around to sit upon.

2017 - The Best Year!

By jform-t |

The Carlsbad flower fields show beautiful color patterns of ranunculus flowers (ranunculi ). The planting is timed for maturity and best showing between March 1st and Mothers Day. 2017 was a particularly beautiful year, perhaps due to a bigger than normal rainfall.

Gardeners Fantasy

By donnatherealtor |

You must love or be able to appreciate gardening to understand all of the work that goes into creating this spectacular display of color. If you don't want to spend the money to walk through the flowers, you can drive above the display, park on the street, and look down on it, not nearly the effect and splendor you will experience by paying the price of admission.

Overpriced

By Peter B |

Good for non-Californians. Avoid in March when there are too few flowers and May when most flowers are gone. They should have a reduced price for off peak viewing and don’t. There are lots of children’s activities, especially for the under 8 crowd. Photographers love the fields.

Carlsbad Flower Fields

By Peter B |

Where els can you live right by the ocean and enjoy the beautiful flower fields ? When we moved here in ‘88 we enjoyed several years amidst the flowers for Easter Celebration and church. If you’re in town in springtime the Flower Fields are a must see and I hope we have it for many years to come.

First Visit

By DEGhia |

Visited over the Easter holiday while staying with family. Flowers were in full bloom and it was a beautiful experience.
Tickets were purchased ahead of time on line. Covid restrictions were in place with masks required. A small snack window was open and seating was available.
Many of photo opportunities with all the flowers.
Lots of benches throughout the property for resting & people watching.
We paid additional fee for the wagon ride which was nice for getting a different view.
Made for a very nice trip with the family and seeing a different part of California.

Beautiful foowrs

By daniellet389 |

We went to the flower field for our anniversary. We went to a beautiful wine dinner that had live music and over looked the flower fields. Such a beautiful place.

Gorgeous! Great photo opportunities!

By Cassandra C |

For the last 4 years my husband brings me up to the flower fields on my birthday. We do photo shoots so I can see my age progressing as I get closer to 50. Yes, it is $16 each to get in, but If you love vibrant colors, which you DON'T see all over Southern California, here is your chance to get your fix. There are demonstrations, an orchid house, a tractor ride (which is extra), some birds, and just absolutely beautiful flowers. Since Spring Break is over on Monday, it tends to be less busy. This makes my soul happy!

Great half day activity

By black70bird |

A bit over priced but beautiful. Fields of flowers and greenhouse full of Cymbidium orchids. Senior rates, but still push activities like the wagon rides (skip unless you do not like walking). No charge for taking photos.

Something different to see

By 323maureens |

Looking for something different to do in San Diego, we found info on the Carlsbad Flower Farm. Unfortunately, the f lower display was due to end within the week, so some of the displays were a little weak. That said, there must have been a million individual plants in a multitude of colors....Beautiful reds, oranges, yellows, whites, purples, pinks, etc. There is an American flag made all in flowers! It was huge! We enjoyed the tractor ride to the top of the flower hill and wound our way back down on foot enjoying all the views. There is a video showing how this garden came about. At the bottom of the hill were displays of all kinds of flowers. There is also a display of poinsettia development through the years. A adjoining the flower farm is a wonderful garden shop. Highly recommend a visit to this location ... maybe a few weeks earlier in the season to get the maximum impact of the flowers!

Soothing

By BoboTravlr |

Wasn’t sure how much I would enjoy a field full of flowers but I really had a great time. Despite the very cold weather and wind the colors of the flowers really popped. What a nice way to spend an afternoon. Very relaxing and peaceful. We actually spent a few hours walking about.

Great Stop

By Brian |

Amazing stop
We spent several hours here
They have a wagon guests can pay to ride on. It’s a hop on hop off wagon, Pulled by a john deer tractor.

We were here in April the blooms were awesome.
However, the Sun flowers were not out yet.
They have a couple of huge chairs to get photos taken in.

What a Sight!

By OneWolf114 |

We own a timeshare right at the Flower Fields that we always try to book in the spring so we can enjoy the beautiful colors. We've also enjoyed New Village Arts performances there.

Seeing our Marine!

By KTCHart |

The flowers were just starting to bloom and it was great to be able to ride the carts pulled by the tractors. If you want to see the whole thing, splurge for the tractor ride!

If you like flowers you’ll love this place in the spring.

By Art I |

We were there in April after all the rains and could not ask for more beautiful flowers. Admission price for 2 kids, 2 adults, and 2 seniors was $86. Thought that was high but it is California.

$18 per person. Seriously?

By JetSkiRacr1 |

I don’t get it. It draws crowds though. We took some pictures from the dirt lot next to the field for free.

A Rainbow of Color

By Cynthia V |

I had never heard of the Carlsbad Flower Fields until the day we visited. I expected a small field of flowers. What we got was acre after acre of rainbow-colored fields in full bloom. To make it even better, there were small gardens throughout the lower part of the ranch where we learned about roses, sweetpeas, and poinsettias. A short video told the history of the flower ranch and how an entrepreneurial spirit instilled poinsettias as a hallmark of Christmas turning an unassuming plant into a holiday must-have, and how the ranch slowly evolved into supplying much of the United States with cut runicula flowers as well as their seeds and bulbs.

For kids, there is a passport system where they can gather stamps and tour the farm in a playful manner. A festive "Santa's Village" playground offers ample shade for waiting parents. Treats abound with fresh strawberries and all the ice cream you can eat. For those who can't manage to walk the massive ranch, a wagon ride will take you to the top and will pick you up on its way back. Photo ops abound as well. The Ranch has taken care to carve out small nooks for photos. Attached to an Armstrong Garden Center, the gift shop supplies you with fun Flower Fields swag along with anything you might need to start your own runicula flower garden at home.

Did not disappoint

By Nichole F |

After years of missing the season completely, we finally were in town at the right time! We went for our daughter's birthday during one of the last days of the season, and it was a wonderful experience. We enjoyed the tractor ride through the fields, as well as the maze, the passport stamps, and panning for gemstones. We also enjoyed seeing the birds and having ice cream (and all the different poinsettia varieties!)

Visions of Spring

By faycassi |

The rainbow fields of ranunculus are an amazing panorama of color. They are open for ten weeks in the Spring (March-April).

You can wander around the fields or take a tractor pulled cart.

In addition there are small gardens around the picnic tables to enjoy.

Food is not available for purchase however there are plenty of tables to have your own picnic.

If you want to take home some cut flowers, Armstrong gardens is just outside the gate and you can purchase them there. You cannot purchase any at the fields.

Free parking is available at the site. Entry fee is reasonable and children, I believe under ten get in free.

It can get warm out in the sun so recommend a hat and water.

Totally unique

By PG-NY |

So spectacular! Never experienced anything like it. Take the tractor ride to get the full sense of the total scale of the place. Glad that we went there.

Beautiful Flowers

By trophywest |

A lovely break in the drive is stopping at the flower fields & garden shop. We're in the middle of the CV-19 event so it changes things. Worth stopping.

Wow! Walking thru a billion flowers!

By OrangeOrb |

Kind of pricy ($16/adult plus $5 tractor ride) but the bottom line is that it's worth it... Incredible vistas of flowers, nice, knowledgeable tractor crew, masterful master gardeners there ready to talk with you about plants to your heart's content, nice landscaping, really nice display showing you the historical evolution of poinsettias with actual live plants. Really well-executed Armstrong Plant Center right next to Flower Fields, where if you saw something in the Fields, you can get ahold of it right away at Armstrong's - very convenient. On the whole, except for the huge flower field/tractor ride and the sweet pea maze, this is more of an adult experience - the playground was vanilla...

It Depends...

By oscar505 |

How much do you like ranunculus? That's most of what is here - acres of ranunculas blooming, mostly in solid color blocks. Beautiful, but once you have seen a few and taken your selfie, what's left to do besides dodging the large school field trip groups?

They have added other displays - roses, poinsettias - and some children's activities. But it is expensive for what it is. And the bouquets are expensive too, even though the purpose of the fields is to grow the plants to develop more bulbs for sale. The flowers are just a byproduct.

It was more fund when the fields were free!

Impressive Scenery

By LeeTrotman |

Parking is very difficult to find, but once you enter (admission fees), these fields are impressive. I have never seen anything like it except for Germany, and those were naturally grown fields. Acres of flowers are available for viewing whether you walk or ride a tractor. There is a small maze and a treasure map available, and the staff are very helpful. Highly recommend on a cool day.

Massive Fields of Flowers!!!

By Angela3950 |

First thought it was a nature reserve, wild and untended, but turns out, it’s basically a nursery. Not mad about it but it’s not what I expected. The massive acreage of the flowers, the colors in striped fields and the color variety is pure heaven for a flower aficionado. The benches and walkways get you up close & personal with lots of Instagramable photo opportunities. You can’t tiptoe through the flowers but you can look them up close in the designated areas.
I haven’t even mentioned the farm itself-beautiful and unusual plantings (the busts with plants as hair, for instance) with food, gifts AND plants for sale.

Carlsbad's Flower fields

By Krista R |

I am lucky to live very close to the fields and see them almost daily. Every spring I can hardly wait for the color burst to start. I love that the image of our flag has been a longtime feast for the eyes. The heading of my facebook is an image of these beautiful yearly flower displays.

Beautiful Flowers But Ridiculous Rules

By CSD |

The flower fields is usually one of my absolute favorite places to visit. However, this season it was extremely disappointing. Not because of the flowers, but because of the experience and price. I paid $20 per person to enter, which is way too much. Then I paid an additional $6 to ride the wagon out to the flower fields. They have equipped the wagons with ridiculous plastic "windows" in between each row of seats! We were outside! The only thing these plastic windows did was block our entire view of the flower fields as we rode the wagon! Common sense people! Then, if you wanted to get out of the wagon to walk around the flower fields at the top, they wouldn't let you get back on the wagon! You had to walk back. Since I had some knee problems, we opted to stay in the wagon, which many people did as well. The driver could have at least stopped for a while to allow us some time to snap a couple pictures due to their rule of not letting us get back on the wagon. Literally unloaded the people who wanted to get off, and then drove away. Didn't get one picture at the top, and could barely get one in the wagon due to the completely obstructed view. If you get off the wagon and can walk all the way back, you will have a much better view of the flowers.

The cherry on top was when my daughter tried to purchase one of our favorite strawberry shakes that they have there and bring it to me near the exit. They refused to allow her to exit the strawberry dessert place with her shake! There were literally lemonade stands and other people walking around with drinks and food... but they wouldn't let her walk to me and hand me a shake. She even tried to tell them that I couldn't walk back over because of knee issues, that we just wanted to take our shakes and go, and they refused to allow her to leave the area with a shake.

What a treat! The Feast of colorful flowers

By Sunnie K |

Flower Field were excellent place for the day trip. It was great and Just perfect for the flower lover. Love the vibrant colors and the surrounding. Ocean in the back ground made wonderful pictures.

Pretty flowers

By Cindy H |

Beautiful place to visit, but lots of people now adays. Bringing in bus leads from schools, senior homes etc. They charge you to walk around them, but if you just want a few pics go to the street above. Park along street and you have an excellent view of the entire area! Ocean, windmill, flowers, for free!! Lol

Amazing if you go during spring

By Anna |

Make sure you go when most of the flowers bloom. There are flowers as far as the eye can see, and it is incredible. There is a shop and some places to eat. The fields as large so there is some walking involved.

BEAUTIFUL!!

By KTCHart |

We stood in line only about 10 minutes to get in. The flowers were gorgeous! They has old tractors pulling carts that you can ride in.

Beautiful, Abundant Flowers as far as the eye can see

By jozielee |

Spent Mother's Day 2017 with my sister and mom at the Fields. Perfect weather. Excellent company. Joyful wagon ride through the fields. Magical time spent with two women in my life who've known and loved me the longest in this lifetime. Will return season after season.

The fields are open for 2018

By BlueSki3s |

Great walking trip to see the 50 acres of flowers. It’s only open March to May and the latter part is when most flowers are in bloom.

Beautiful flower fields! No need to take the tractor.

By S_C_Explorer |

We loved our experience at the flower fields! It was a little crowded when we went but I believe that’s because of spring break. It was well worth it though, we have three kids ages 12, 11, and nine and even they really enjoyed it. We opted not to do the tractor ride and honestly wouldn’t recommend it. When we looked over there, it was a very long line. When you’re on the tractor, you can’t pose in the fields or near the flowers either. There was plenty opportunities to see many of the flowers and the property by just walking around. There were many opportunities to sit in the fields in designated cut out areas with benches. It was absolutely gorgeous! There was a live band playing and they were decent. It was a Beatles cover band. We decided to get a sweet treat from the strawberry concession stand and it was very good. Overall a great experience!

Bad customer service

By Lydia B |

The flower fields themselves were absolutely beautiful, and we had a lovely time exploring them. However, the tractor ride was a major disappointment and left a sour note on an otherwise enjoyable day.

At the start of the ride, we were told not to stand up, which is understandable for safety reasons. That said, the enforcement of this rule felt extremely over-the-top. I was traveling with my five-year-old daughter who like most children finds it hard to sit still. She briefly stood up for no more than five seconds, during which I immediately asked her to sit down. Despite this, the driver abruptly stopped the ride, reacted very rudely, and publicly scolded us in a way that left my daughter visibly upset and on the verge of tears.

Not long after, he repeated this behavior with another couple who appeared to be non-native English speakers. They had only swapped seats, but were met with loud, aggressive shouting. The driver went so far as to address the entire carriage, asking if we understood English and if we were capable of following instructions, which felt unnecessarily hostile and humiliating.

The rest of the ride was uncomfortable and tense, with everyone sitting stiffly, clearly not enjoying the experience. It truly dampened the day. It’s unfortunate that someone so abrasive and unfriendly is working in a role that involves interacting with families and children. A more patient and understanding approach would have made a world of difference.

Nice day out

By Colin P |

Nice hour or two with spectacular flower displays. Recomend the tractor ride to get the overwiew and walk back from far side.

Colourful display

By simply-peregrinating |

It is beautiful to see the fields of ranunculus in bloom. We opted not to pay what we thought was an overpriced entrance fee and viewed them from the road right by our hotel. You do get an overall view of them from this advantageous viewpoint. Staying close by we got the oportunity to view them in the early morning and evening when the light differed.

Beautiful and colourful

By pmulle18 |

On first arrival we could only see fields with few green sprouts and almost turned away. However on speaking to a very enthusiastic lady in the garden nursery adjoining we were persuaded to go for it and so glad we did! There were many lovely garden displays and informative boards that eventually led to fields of blooming ranunculas being picked by workers. Wonderful sight. I also tried the panning for semi precious stones which was fun and gave a nice souvenir of the day. The strawberry sundae was excellent and we enjoyed watching all the birds in the aviary. We discovered this place by chance but would highly recommend a visit

Poor lunch

By Rosemary T |

A return visit but disappointed. Had Sea bream and roast (???) potatoes with a bit of samphire.
Some left over cold new potatoes which had been cooked with their skin on, dunked in the deep fat fryer, at a guess, consequently dry and horrible, are not ‘roast potatoes’
So sad to get such a poor meal on Wednesday 24th January.

Not much to see in the winter

By seven_done |

Looks like it would be lovely when in bloom. However in November there is nothing to see short of works getting the fields ready for the spring.

Pretty flowers but not worth the price of entry

By Julieta D |

Not worth my money
Tractor ride extra $8 adults/$4 kids
Mining $5
Entry$23
Pick your own blueberries $8
Best to look ar the fields from outside for free

Spectacular

By saykenny |

Well this place is beautiful there’s many many miles and miles of blooming flowers you can see it visible from the southbound or northbound on the International I-5
freeway, It’s beautiful you can get out and walk around check it out but if you larger to pollen I wouldn’t recommend it it is a sight to see

Amazing!!!

By Francesca |

Not to be missed! Mind blowing amount of flowers organized in streaks of amazing color. If you are lucky to be in San Diego during March-May this experience is a must. Well worth the money!!!

Beautiful

By RobReno |

Great walk in the Flower Fields. On a clear day you see the ocean. Exit through the shop, where my wife is presently shopping.

Stupendous diorama of glorious blooms!

By ChinaLake1 |

Such a cool place. Historical significance with poinsettias and ranunculus. 60 acres of floral extravaganza next door to Legoland. Fields of flowers, hothouses of exotic beauties (orchids), and whimsical garden art. Married to a Montana farmer's daughter, we both got a kick out of the vintage John Deere and International Harvester tractors pulling the wagons of sightseers around the fields. The last inspiring display is a floral Old Glory in Mount Rushmore scale.
From tractor drivers in bib overalls-- ours looked all ZZ Top with his flowing gray beard and ear ring-- to a band stand, lemonade stand with bands, a garden center, weekly rotating food trucks, a rose garden which we never did find, and wonderful historical and educational displays.

The Flower Fields are only blooming a few months in the spring every year, so if you want to enjoy them for yourself and you're coming from out of area like us, you'll have to coordinate with nature. It's cheap compared to neighboring LEGOLAND and for most adults, way more fun. Tractor wagon rides are $5. Parking, although extensive, is somewhat hard to find, but free.

The history of this place goes way back. And the city of Carlsbad, which works with the Flower Fields, is to be commended for its vision to help preserve this wonderful, priceless site. If you love gardening and fresh flowers, you'll be inspired by this bonanza of horticultural excellence.

A sight to see

By Brian L |

We never knew this place existed, but it was a very beautiful place to visit, it's seasonal, so check the schedule, but well worth seeing.!!

World-Famous Flower Fields of Carlsbad

By Robert H |

A nice experience, but rather pricey: admission was $23 per person, purchased online in advance. The tractor-driven wagon ride (optional at $8 per person) is recommended unless you are comfortable walking very long distances. As we were there very early in the season, the wagon ride made only ONE stop mid-trip, and about half of the fields had not started to bloom. As there were other ramps along the route, I'm assuming that more stops are made during the busier part of the season. The poinsettia and orchid displays were especially beautiful. Food concessions are available, but the prices are sky-high, so we passed on these

The Flowers of the Field

By LaVerne D |

I’ve never seen ranunculus grow in abundance and they’re breathtaking. The Flower Fields in Carlsbad tour was the perfect way to spend time with family on spring break from The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA. The staff members are delightful. Let’s not forget the antique tractor ride in case you don’t care to do a lot of walking. Toward the end of the ride there’s a replica of the US flag using pansies. The Fields are justaposed to the Carlsbad Premium Outlets.❤️

Too early in the season…..

By BhavnaTyagi |

It is really early in the season and there is literally nothing to see. Save your money and come back in April.

Wait a bit before visiting

By on_the_go_98765 |

Flowers were not in full-bloom. March is not prime-time for a visit. Would really recommend waiting for summer!

A beautiful day and enjoyable afternoon in the flowers!

By c_Bond62 |

Purcase your tickets online in advance, choose a 30 minute window for arrival but stay as long as you want. We very much enjoyed our experience! The wagon ride was nice and since I don't have pre-covid experience I thought it provided a great view of the farm. The recorded history and information was hard to hear over the speakers but what I could hear was informative and interesting. The paths were nice and the freedom to walk around and in the flowers was relaxing. My 86 year old mom was with me and we enjoyed strolling the lower parts of the farm. The orchid and poinsetta buildings were beautiful. The front gardens filled with a variety of flowers, colors, benches and photo opportunities was very nice. We enjoyed a high priced strawberry shake and browsed in the nursery too.

Annual classic with new COVID-related protocols

By idstriker |

The flower fields opened now with new policies and COVID protocols. All guests are required to buy ticket(s) online and select a time slot for the visit. You will be turned away if you dont make reservation online.

Still the beginning of the season so not all the fields are blooming. Still pretty and quite calming with the new capacity limit. We didn't have to fight or wait long to take pictures of our favorite flowers.

Enjoyable Accessible Visit

By jlmadnick |

We spent the afternoon at the Flower Fields. The farm is accessible with my wife’s mobility scooter. It was even able to go on the wagon trail tour!
Most of the paths are packed small size gravel and stone dust. She had no trouble with the scooter. The wagon trail was also hard enough for the scooter. I saw There was a companion bathroom. We did not use it.

Stunning views, great walk

By simplelife_12 |

There are a variety of self-led tours and multiple display gardens. The fields are predominantly ranunculus in hundreds of colors. They also had areas devoted to orchids and chrysanthemums. One bed is a living 300' x 175' American flag. It's so large, it's probably best seen from the frontage road. We opted to walk and get some exercise. Easy walking. You can walk the entire 55+ acres, but I would definitely take the tractor ride with children. Also, if you choose to walk, you need to be aware that it's on an incline. Great photo ops here.

A Great Experience

By Michael Bethel, Jr |

This place was really fun the flowers are so beautiful, the attractions were very good, the food was amazing, the staff are very nice, and it is very kid-friendly. I would recommend anyone to come. 5/5

Okay

By Cobenour |

This is not a must see. They grow flowers to sell and then they charge you to see them. You can see more from the road.

In amongst the colors

By flashncrash |

We came on Mother's Day last year which also coincided on their last day in season. The place is much larger than it appears. We had a $5 off coupon per person and we enjoyed walking on the dirt paths (yes, there can be mud too) looking at the remaining blooms. The Flower Fields offers tractor-pulled rides but walking just made more sense. There are plenty of set ups for the flowers, not just on the ground. I'm sure if you went during a different part of the flower season you would see additional species plus even more color.

Unbelievable!

By Shelley4478 |

Made a stop here with my cousin who lives in CA and we were amazed! Our children (8,4&4) even enjoyed the views and the wagon ride. They offer a stamp/hunt game that makes it fun for the little ones. The fields were exceptional, like nothing I’ve ever seen! They are only open a few months out of the year so if you’re in the area during the late winter & spring month add this place to your list!

Hilton Grand Vacation Palisade overlook

By Zeno & Conchita |

What a grand view of the flower fields from our Hilton Grand Vacation hotel were we stayed on our previous stay. It reminded me of Kuekenhoff in Holland with the bright colored flowers (tulips in Holland)

Beautiful flowers!

By Grandma Blueswing |

The flowers were beautiful here. We thought the price was a little high for the experience.
It can be easily walked so I would save the money for the wagon ride.

Really nice, wish i went again later in the season

By Courtney F |

My friend and i went at the beginning of the season so i bought a season pass. If you go at the beginning one plus is no crowds but long walk in the sun to flowers that are in bloom. Also none of the food, ice cream stands were open and after walking in the heat i could have gone for some ice cream. I do wish i was able to go again, just didnt have time.

Underwhelmed

By Melanie69 |

Yes the flowers are beautiful but we feel it was very overpriced and parking can be a nightmare. We met several other families on our visit and not all of them could manage the parking situation.

Beautiful and touching experience

By gmorgado |

If you love nature and his details you don´t want to miss this experience. Since the minute you see the colors or the flowers you will want to touch them all. You can take pictures in a beautiful setting, take your little ones and the whole family for a breathtaking experience.

Flower Power!

By Lynn |

Breathtaking swaths of color splashed across the hillside are a must-see for any gardener or lover of flowers. Wear good walking shoes so you can stroll around the fields. Fantastic photo opportunities are everywhere. And the tastiest local strawberries are sold just outside the entrance!

Amazing Amount of Flowers

By Jay B |

Going to this is well worth the trip and the cost. They have 5 to 10 acres of flowers from March until May and they are amazing in all the colors. Best to go early when they open so it is not hot and less folks there.

Beautiful flowers

By Catherine S |

Stopped here on our way from LA to San Diego. Free parking then you pay to stroll around the paths along the edge of the ranunculus bulb fields.
Flowers were stunning. Planted in stripes and randomly.
I noticed several people walking along a public footpath at the top of the fields, presumably for free. You would also get fabulous views from there.

Even if you're not into flowers...

By Scott654321 |

I must tell you right off the bat that I usually don't take time to take note of flowers. The only reason I visited here is because i was able to get in for free. However once there I was overwhelmed by the beauty of the flowers and how big the fields were. I decided to pay for a trip around the fields on an old tractor which I did not regret. It was fun and informative.

Just about the time we were ready to leave, we came upon a maze of flowers and plants that looked like fun. We decided to enter as it looked simple enough to go in and then get out. Having the worst senses of direction in the world, we became totally lost. We might still be there had we not decided to follow some people who from their quick strides seemed confident that they knew the way out.

Great Place For A Stroll And Some Pictures

By dogtorCB |

First thing first - wear sunscreen!! There is plenty of shade available if you need it, but if you're walking around through the flower fields, plan on feeling the heat a bit.

This is an awesome place to take a stroll, and an even more awesome place to take pictures. The flowers are beautiful and the whole place smells incredible. You can wear flip flops or sneakers, but keep in mind you're walking through a bunch of flowers, so your feet may get a bit dirty.

When I went (April 2018), entrance was $16 for adults, $14 for seniors and military, and $8 for children under 10 years of age. The wagon ride was an additional $5 for adults and an additional $3 for children under 10.

must be there in early spring to truly enjoy the beauty

By emaggie01 |

have stayed in Oceanside & Carlsbad area so always visit the flower gardens at that time, great gift shop, always buy flower bulbs in hopes they will grow in Oregon but also bought imitation flowers that were beautiful & have them in my living room to cheer me up during the winter months

Very Expensive

By Lisa B |

We chose not to pay the $16 each price to enter the establishment. We drove around back and were able to take pictures from the backside for free. Lovely flowers!

Heaven on Earth!

By Roxanne H |

Visiting Carlsbad’s Flower Fields is a visual delight beyond compare! The many acres of ranunculi bloom in riotous color usually beginning in March of each year and reaching their peak in early April. Recently the different fields have been staggered in their blooming, so there are always blooms at their prime during March and April. Tractor-drawn wagons give rides to the outermost fields. Wear casual shoes so you can walk the dirt paths to get close to the flowers for great picture-taking opportunities. It can get crowded on weekends, so try to go during the week, if possible. There is usually plenty of overflow parking. Roses, poinsettias in hot houses, and all types of spring flowers are available for viewing. Ice cream, snack food, and crafts can be purchased as well as many beautiful plants, flowers, and ranunculi bouquets at the on-site Armstrong Nursery.

If you're visiting Carlsbad in the Spring - the flower fields might be a must-do.

By Steve Skinner |

If you enjoy flower fields, and visiting Carlsbad in the spring, you will definitely not want to miss it. They do charge quite a bit just to walk in the fields, but it's a unique experience and always worth it once.

The southern-most facing slope (that faces Palomar Airport road) is always a giant floral display of the American flag, and if you pay to walk through the main west facing fields, it's quite an experience and definitely a great photo opportunity. They also have tractors you can ride around the field and have a bit of a guided tour.

After you've had your fill of the flower fields, you're right next to the Carlsbad outlets where you can enjoy some good quick foods and do some shopping.

You might only need to budget an hour or two (at most) for your visit to the flower fields. Other than what I mentioned, there isn't that much more to do there, but there are so many other great things close by, it'll make for a fun-filled day on your vacation.

Massive fields. Lovely flowers

By rkmanchi |

This one was a little surprise as I didn’t know much about this place and it’s existence.

There are good displays that explain a lot about the history of the fields and how they were found. There is a lovely nursery as well where you can buy pretty much anything to do with gardening and botany.

The flowers are a sight to behold especially in full bloom and the long walks don’t hurt at all.

The only sore point is that the authorities can do better in terms of the toilet facilities. The mobile toilets provided aren’t maintained well

Never Disappointed

We try to visit when the flowers are at full bloom. It can be a romantic excursion for couples. Bring a camera, the best pictures can be taken when the sun is low.

Fun Visit to the Flower Fields

By 411Anonymous |

We visited in early May, near the end of the blooming season. Several of the fields were still incredibly beautiful. We visited with 4 people, ages 49 - 75. We rode the wagon and walked around some, including walking on the paths in the fields. We bought some uce cream. Lots of photo ops. The visit was about 3 hours long, which was plenty of time, but we did not see everything.

Picture-perfect

By MDGrau |

This was on the way to our destination, Legoland, and it looked too pretty to pass up so it was part of out itinerary. Though we came rather late in Spring, there were still very colorful flowers on the field. We were told there were more flowers around April. Made for nice pictures. We went in the morning and it was not crowded. You could also see the ocean from the top of the field... They are not open year-round, so check their website for details.

Not quite what you expect; a remnant of a real place and time

By onetravelman |

Once a center of an industry, this is more a 'postage stamp' reflection of a past iconic era. But when all is in bloom, it is still awe inspiring. By September thought, it's mostly tan colored dirt waiting for the next growing cycle

Scare me like Halloween

By ingapirca |

Im right now at this place. Rude lady at the entrance. The have for sale ice cream. I tried to
Buy one but they did not have spoons. Old lady looking for spoons, but couldn’t find it sonI place my head crossing the window looking for spoon (only my head). Suddenly a lady (overweight, artificial blonde) out of the blues came in a very aggressive manner, came and shout that my head is not suppose to cross the window.
I tried to explain about the spoon issue, but this lady was not in the mood to reason even though the old
Lady tried to explain( kind of authoritarian attitude). I mentioned that she can say the same but not in a rude way and she turned ballistic mentioned that she is not rude. I just turned around (no ice cream for mi kids this time) and walk away. I don’t think I coming back to a place where they don’t help and do not respect customers

Fun

By sunsetsusie46 |

Beautiful variety of flowers, things to do for the kids and a few snack places. Prices for the snacks are somewhat on the high side, so be prepared for it. There is a tractor ride around the flowers, nice place to rest

Glorious

By Denise |

Ten months out of the year are spent preparing, planting and cultivating for two months of glorious color to span the acreage at The Flower Fields. There is a great history and tradition surrounding these fields, and it is truly something of which, Carlsbad can be proud. A great place to stroll solo, for couples, and for families.

Gorgeous is all I can say

By James S |

The flower fields were beautiful. There is a tour for a price that includes a tractor wagon ride around the fields. However there is a stretch of lookout points and a walkway above the field for free on Armada drive. And along Palomar Airport Rd you can see the section that has the large American Flag set out on the hillside.

SO BEAUTIFUL

By Do-IT |

SO BEAUTIFUL & The flower fields are huge! I went to take my grad pics there... the people were so nice! Congratulating me! Besides the flower fields, there are numerous other opportunities for photo ops near the entrance like arches and other displays.

Really recommend. The flowers are only open for a limited time, so I was finally able to come visit after all these years.

Stunning

By SED960 |

We took a drive up here during our stay in San Diego. We were lucky to visit on a weekday so the crowds were low. We were toward the end of the season (first week of May) so some of the flowers were starting to fade but it was still visually stunning. I took hundreds of photos. In the main part of the fields there are "cut-outs" where they've put little benches for photo-ops. Definitely worth a drive to visit if you're here at the right time of year!

Breathtaking Sea of Colors

By Feb |

Happens March to Mid May, a once in a year spectacular that is worth the trip. The entire farm is in the open, very little shade so dress appropriately and wear a cap or carry a sun umbrella. Ladies, you can leave those heels for another occasion, the flowers in the background will not fail to get you the best picture you have ever seen.

Not worth it/high entry price

By Lynette N |

Several years ago when our son was young we took him to the flower fields - free to enter and items to purchase there. Went again last year and was shocked at the price they now charge to view a field of flowers. Not worth it. Disappointed that it is so expensive and became such a money making enterprise.

Got here a day late

By joemY3087XB |

Mother’s Day is last day to really view the flower fields. We arrived the after and they had already begun to plow the flowers under. We were able to see about half of the fields on Monday. By Tuesday afternoon, there was only one field left with American flag. What we saw was spectacular, wish we would have here sooner...a day late and a dollar short....

Aim to visit in March/April

By hopalongrving |

When we visited in February the flowers were at approximately 20% bloom so we decided to not do the tour at this time. But wow from the pictures and post cards we cant wait to come back and enjoy these flowers in full bloom. Their busy time of year is mid march through April so if you are visiting when the blooms are out be sure to plan ahead. They have events often (see picture included.) There is plenty of parking available, we visited in our Class B RV and had no issues parking. Be sure to check out the nursery attached to the fields to buy beautiful flowers, pots and postcards. We found out after we left that the strawberries of Carlsbad CA should not be missed so we hope you find some!

Probably nothing like it in this country

By k2r |

Sensorially stunning seasonal attraction. Call first when planning to possibly come, limited time peaking.

Eye candy beyond belief

By BarbaraB |

Pictures simply cannot do this place justice. Certainly, closeup pictures give a better idea. While the major flower is ranunculus, sweet pea and a few others abound. Should not be missed and definitely worth a side trip just to see. Check the website for best viewing times. There are a few places at the outlet to catch a bite or drink as well.

Know before you go . . .

By beannie7 |

The vast majority of the fields were not in bloom.
You are allowed to walk/take pictures on the dirt roads around the perimeter of fields, not in the rows between the flowers.
There is a butterfly garden with no real butterflies, just big metal ones ?

Brilliant!!!!

By Nancy Ross |

The Flower Fields of Carlsbad is a must visit when you are in North San Diego County. Every spring the flowers are in full bloom and it is wonder to see by air or in the fields up close and personal. There are wagon rides through the fields or you can walk through and take a picture in designated spots with all the flowers around you. When I have visitors here in the spring. I always take them there and they are astounded by the beauty and when they come back for a visit they always want to go back!

amazing flowers

By Ransthewiz |

this has to be one of the most magnificent areas of flower fields we have ever seen. The grandchildren were even impressed.

Incredible color all season

By 513mitchellp |

Just driving by is awesome, but you will always wish you had bought bulbs or live plants. And you will probably, plan for the next time that you can see the brilliant colored flowers,as,far as,the eye can see. I,know, that we do, and I can't wait until next year

Feb or March Must See

By John D |

Carlsbad has been famous for its flower growing regions including the Poinsettia Plant born and raised just south in neighboring Encinitas. The Flower Fields begin blooming in March and are at peak in late March and early April. For about $15 bucks, you can walk around the hills and take in the vibrant colors. The flowers (Ranunculus) are planted in long rows and a large American flag in red, white and blue are also planted into the east side of the 50 acre farm. They have done a good job offering daily activities from live music to kids activities. Definitely worth checking out if you're in Carlsbad - it's also right off the I-5 freeway if your passing through town.

Waste of time and money

By s b d |

A semi large field covered with the same flower in a variation of colors. Don't waste your money. Just buy yourself a few ranunculus plants instead.

So Pretty!!

By tldarby84 |

Glad we were able to walk along the path east of the fields and see them for free. Would have liked to go in to them but we didn’t. So beautiful! Season ends in May.

Beautiful flower fields fun walk

By ericucho n |

Tips;
Best time to go April. To early inthe season you may not see flowers.
Wear comfortable shoes. It is a flower field. Dirt everywhere
Get your sunblock and cap.
Do not want to walk. Get your ticket for wagon ride. 8 per adult and 4 per children
Tickets are 23 per adult.
Get comfortable shoes. I ve seen quiet few ladies struggling with heels or wedges. If you want to wear heels for your pics, maybe have your comfy shoes for the walk
This is a really nice place to walk enjoy the flower, take pictures,
They also have other activities and amenities. Snacks and drinks also available. Believe me you will build an appetite.
Almost accross the street two good option. P.F Chiang’s or BJ’s

Lovely.

By siouxsy |

Beautiful fields of ranunculus! It really is breathtaking. Admission is $18. $1 discount with AAA. They had some really beautiful poinsettias and orchids as well in small green houses. You can also pick your own blueberries if you like at one part of the farm. We probably spent over an hour there. Worth the visit.

Flower Fields

By Janet D |

Drove by this for years and finally got to experience first hand twice this year. Absolutely beautiful and a wonderful way to spend a Sunday. My daughter was able to fulfill a college photography assignment while there and I just loved the vivid colors and the view out to the ocean. The smell of the sweet pea garden took me back to my family’s garden in the Midwest! Can’t wait to go back next season!,

The flowers field was beautiful to see. All the works making the fields just beautiful. They made a America flag out of flowers. I enjoyed the tractor ride through the fields.

Lovely flowers and much more for the whole family and couples!

By Sylvia DrSoul Fernandez |

We really enjoyed our visit here! It was impressive how many flowers they had, the shades and colors, the amount of flowers and how organized everything was! The pictures are amazing! There is an extra fee for professional photographers 😳😳🙏🏼 You can even see the ocean in the horizon! Please see carefully the pictures here and in the pictures area for more details! They have trolley-like to give people rides or you can also walk around, they have a lemonade stand as well as ice cream and other goodies! They have very clean bathrooms everywhere and a great store once you leave with many amazing gifts! The parking area is free, on the other hand there was no security that we saw and some signs saying they are not responsible for stolen items or damage to your cars. There are lots of activities for children like: small park, flower maze, mining experience and if you find their website many more activities to learn about nature etc! We got about $28 worth of seeds and we got a packet of flower seeds for free for Earth Day!

Follow me for more places in San Diego and in Puerto Rico where we live as well as places I’ve visited like Bali, Cambodia and Israel Amin many others! #planforamiracle

Day out

By Perry H |

What a perfect activity for the entire family, Young and old. Beautiful flowers cover the hill side with color and fragrance with many varieties. You can walk the many garden's and then take a wagon ride pulled by an old farm tractor thru the hilly parts are walk them as well. Then thier are food vendors and many craft vendors as well. Afterwards you can go into Anderson's nursery and buy garden plants and supplies for your yard. Great activity.

Beautiful flowers

By bettywhill |

A nice place to spend a few hour surrounded by beautiful flowers. Entrance fee for adult $16, senior $14. Wagon ride $5 extra. Or if you don’t mind walking... Parking free but difficult to find a spot later in the day.

Lovely flowers

By Katy B |

The flowers were beautiful, and it was a lovely place to visit. The parking was more challenging than expected. It probably took 10-15 minutes to find parking, which was surprising. Not a deterrent by any means, but just something to keep in-mind before going. The wagon ride was really great, and I recommend it. There's a small aviary that was a lot of fun too!

Absolutely gorgeous!

By jan s |

I visited the Flower Fields a few weeks ago. They’re absolutely gorgeous, very stunning! Even if you’re not into gardening or flowers, this place may change your mind. The colors, row upon row of beautiful flowers! I highly recommend visiting.

Visit near Mid May

By SuperMT |

When I visited this place in the 1st week of May, not much flowers still blooming . I guess the best time to visit this place should be April. Anyway, I still enjoy the flower blooms!

Stunning!

By Natasha P |

Beautiful flowers!
We didn't stop and walk through them, just admired them from the road. Lots of bright colours.

Pretty, but overpriced!

By Dawn B |

Yes the flowers are gorgeous but $18/ person is excessive. Feel like I could've just viewed it from outside and saved $36 bucks.

Season Pass = Excellent Value

By debjapan |

2018 is my 2nd year as a season pass holder to see these beautiful flowers, Ranunculi. Although it's a 30 minute drive minimum, I enjoy walking here once a week to see the flowers bloom from start to finish. Walking the fields from end to end, up and down is about 4 miles. Tractor rides are also availabe. Many people don't realize the property includes olive trees and they're growing coffee as well at the top left side of the fields. The top right field has a American Flag design. There's a sweet pea maze for kids to enjoy too (okay, maybe 40ish aged women were amused additionally). Highly recommend.

Delightful!

By arissalovesart |

Visiting the Flower Fields is an absolute must if you're in SD in the spring! The variety of colors is truly breathtaking. The American flag flowers were awesome! We did the little ride on the truck and we walked it, I recommend the $5 ride because you get to hear trivia about the place. There are also lemonade stands, ice cream and snacks, and children's' activities, gift shops, a rose garden, etc. It was a true delight!

Flower Fields

By Leanne A |

These 50 acres of flowers are only available for viewing March
1st thru Mother's Day so if you are in Carlsbad during this time this is a sight to behold. Be sure and take the wagon ride around the fields to get the whole effect. My daughter and I loved it though our husbands chose golfing instead!

Mothers Day

By DiClem |

We had a lovely time at the flower fields. Truly enjoyed the tour/ride around the field. It was very interesting and so much fun we did it twice! We went the weekend before Mother's Day to avoid the crowds, which was a great choice as we were able to walk around and enjoy the various flowers, plants and trees.

Just beautiful!

By Diane S |

Beautiful gardens to walk through or take a wagon ride if walking is not to your liking. Even the kids enjoyed seeing all the beautiful flowers.

Ranunculus as far as the eye can see

By Susie1028 |

The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch offers an amazing display of ranunculus, March 1-May 12 (mother's day). The fields are sloped and overlook the ocean. They have 50 acres of flowers, and the star here is the ranunculus. The fields are open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at a cost of $18 per adult. The flower fields are set up for photo taking, with cut outs in the field to protect the flowers. They also offer special events such as workshops focused on floral and succulent arranging, as well as arts and crafts workshops, live music, yoga, food trucks, and sunset wine tastings.

Dang we missed it

By BCRON |

Down here in Carlsbad to take grandson to Legoland and was hoping that the flowers were still in bloom.
Looks like they just cut them back a week or so ago.
They still have an American flag of flowers on the corner of Airport and Armada. It's pretty cool but all the bulbs have been cut back.
Maybe next year.

Field of colors

By lanaval |

It is a huge field and a long walk to cover. It was summer so it was terribly hot. Although the field was covered with different colors, which was really nice on pictures, there were just a few variety of flowers in this field. There are no benches near the field so you have nowhere to sit in case you get tired. A cart is available for a fee. Long queues to get to the only toilet available.

Incredible View Just Off The Pacific Ocean

By DrJayEllis |

This is the first place I've visited that proudly proclaims upfront that it is in the Agri-Tourism business. They have over 50 acres of blooming flowers which is an incredible sight to see. Being so big, it is possible to view it from an adjacent hill, but I would advise paying the kind of expensive admission price so you have up close access to the rows of flowers and to the really good explanations, exhibits and video provided just inside the entrance. The primary focus here is on the Ranunculus, a multi-flowering plant that comes in every color of the rainbow. They are famously planted in very long rows by color, which initially looks like the most colorful flag ever laid out on a huge field. We also found the history and displays of Poinsettia plants fascinating. This company has been a big player in supplying both types of plants for many years. We actually visited the place on one of the very few rainy days Southern California experiences, but it cleared fairly quickly to allow us to get some great pictures. A must stop location for photographers!

Who Would Have Thought Flowers Were So Popular

By zapprint |

Over the years we have heard about the flower fields but until you actually visit and see it in person, you have no idea!
Great photo opportunity at every bend, and a good variety of foods and activities for adults as well as kids.

over priced

By LoriR96 |

Very pretty and enjoyable afternoon but very overpriced. We did get some beautiful photos. We spent about 2 hours and that was plenty of time to see everything and grab a snack that was also overpriced. $8 each for a ice cream sundae and a strawberry shake.

A definite must see during the month of April

By R L B |

We visited the Flower Fields and were so impressed with how beautiful the flowers were. Unfortunately, the Flower Fields are only in open during the month of April through Mother's Day so timing is everything. If you happen to be in the Carlsbad, California area during that time of the year - it is worth the time and money to visit the fields. We also took advantage of the tractor ride around the field. Bring your cameras - many photo ops!

So Much More There Now

By Colin Archibald |

The flower fields have always been amazing, but they have added many additional features that make the visit more worthwhile. There are activities for the kids including a Sweet Pea Maze, A Play area with a few of the old buildings that came from Santa's Village in the San Bernardino Mountains (Brought back Memories). There is an area to learn about various methods of water conservation, A building housing Poinsettias and telling the history of the Poinsettia. There is a project cultivating Cymbidium Orchids and video presentations about the flower fields and the floral industry in the San Diego area. In the Flower Fields they have made areas where you can go into an opening in the flowers where you can take some great photos. Don't Miss the Tractor pulled cart ride.

Nice relaxing views

By tjmm1985 |

Visited the Carlsbad Flower Fields while vacationing. The masses amount and different flowers was amazing and the views were pleasing to the eye. A nice stop just off of I - 5.

Absolutely beautiful

By SCORPIOSFNM |

This is a unreal view of beautiful flowers on the hill side at Carlsbad. We went to the outlets near by and then to see the flowers. A really nice day with little traffic.

Great for Family and Visitors

By davebrucewhite |

Great destination for family and visiting friends. Lots of things to do, often live music, tractor rides, and exceptional scenery.

Beautiful !!

By Karen O |

If you want to bask in color and see the beauty of nature, come here. 50 acres of flowers. Lots of walking. Up and down. There s a video area, a kids playground, a sluicing place to find ‘gems’, a sweet pea maze, wagon ride and much more. Lots of photo ops. They have a refreshment stand that serves wonderful caramel apple shakes and delicious strawberry shortcake sundaes with whipped cream, caramel, chocolate and sprinkles.

Colors galore!

By Marjorie K |

A fun activity and photo opportunity! The colors are breathtaking and are a lovely back drop for family photos. The flowers are grown in rainbows of colors. A nice place to take paints and easel for plein air paintings of the flowers.

A Must for tourists when Ranunculus are in bloom- choose carefully

By Brackstead |

The flowers are very seasonal - check the other reviews too or you may be disappointed.

At one time there were flower fields all along coast and this is probably most scenic.

As of 3/12/2017 the flowers are about 20% open. Its not at its optimum but should be soon. I advise checking it out fro the road behind and on top of the fields. The street has museum of making music and Gemology Institute on it with Karl Strauss Brewery on corner near Costco. Legoland is just off roundabout at top of road. Its a great view and walk and you get a good view of all the field. Thats what locals do and you see the flowers rolling down with ocean (and power plant) in distance. Its wonderful at sunset and you can pretty much own it as its not well known. View from top road.

You can save money or just take in the view any time you want or check it out before entering attraction and taking tractor ride..

The flag is in full flower (planted petunias) but not the main show as its off to side and difficult to view unless you can fly.

This used to be much larger before the shopping 'outlets" were built. I worked on other side of freeway and used to watch the biplane fly over the top and swoop toward freeway dusting Frazee's crops. I think the pilot was Dusty but other than that can't remember his name.

Absolutely stunning fields of flowers, would highly recommend if you have any interest in flowers

By 907blaked |

We absolutely loved our visit here. Yes, the admission price is not cheap, but you know that going in. The fields of ranunculus flowers were absolutely beautiful, ranging from pretty much every color in the rainbow. We went on March 18. My understanding is that of the 10 or so fields that are there, they start planting them earlier in the year with staggered times, so that the first two fields come on bloom in early March, but As the spring progresses, the earlier fields die out, and the blooms from the new fields start to come on. So when we were there, which was on the early side of the season, we had to walk all the way down to fields one and two to see the flowers. But if you go around Mother’s Day in May, You will head to Fields nine and 10, which are essentially straight in front of you after you go through the entrance.
We decided not to take the wagon ride based on other TripAdvisor reviews, and that was the right decision. It allowed us to explore the flowers at our own pace. We also skipped over the high priced food and lemonade, thanks to seeing other reviews. In other words, we focused on enjoying all of the beautiful flowers, mainly in the fields but also in certain of their displays as you lead up to the fields, and we really enjoyed ourselves. We probably spent 75 minutes here, and it was one of our highlights of our trip to San Diego.

Gorgeous flowers Gorgeous colors

By TravelerGirl1975 |

Such an uplifting few hours viewing the Ranunculus! The Carlsbad Flower Fields are gorgeous and beautifully laid out in rows of various colors. As you walk up the hill there are pathways of green to walk towards viewing and a white bench for photos. The view of the ocean is also splendid! Surrounded by colorful flowers while viewing the blue ocean with the blue sky above, throw in some palm trees and it doesn't get much better! Be sure to wander over to see Armstrongs Growers Nursery before you leave.

Catch the Ranunculus in Bloom through Mother’s Day

By HBSnowFlower |

We caught the giant ranunculus in full bloom in mid-April but you can only catch them through Mother’s Day. (Sunflowers come out in May.) We hadn’t been here for 15 years and were amazed at how the attraction has expanded. In addition to strolling (or taking a tractor wagon ride) along the flower fields, you can check out the butterfly sculpture garden, a “pothead garden,” an orchid greenhouse, blueberry picking, the poinsettias exhibit, and various other gardens. Fast food offered here is pricey -- $13 for a strawberry shake, $15 for a serving of chocolate covered strawberries, for examples.
Be forewarned that you must buy your tickets online and there is timed entry. The big sign as you enter the parking lot states tickets are only available online – so make sure you have either printed them out ahead of time or you have downloaded on your phone. Be sure to check web site for hours and events.

April

By Cindy W |

Best time to visit is mid April, fully bloomed, parking lot fills up fast, come early opens at 9am.
18.00 adults
22.00 ride the tractor (not worth it)
Walk around, thru the flowers, take photos, lots to see. The nursery is fun to look through, too. Lots of garden items for sale.

Absolutely beautiful!

By valleycitygirl |

Wind was pretty cold for wagon ride but the flowers were gorgeous. Wish we could stay longer for weather to warm up and the flowers to be at peak. Fields of ranunculus were amazing! Also roses, dahlias & many flowers I'm not familiar with. Nice taste of spring!

Just makes you want to smile!

By Michael G |

I lived in california for many years and always drove by the fields, but it wasn't until i moved and came back for vacation that i actually went. it is acres and acres of happy. very nicely run operation, interesting information was shared about the plants and you were able to meet the growers. He even shared what his new colors were going to be!

Amazingly Beautiful!

By Keith G |

We visited the flower fields in March 2018. Acres of multi-colored blooms were a stunning sight to see. We took advantage of the many photo opportunities. Some walking was involved but antique tractor and wagon rides helped a lot. Friendly older gentlemen on golf carts traveled around to answer any questions we had. A lot of emphasis on education telling us what they do and why with a nice focus on saving the environment. It was well worth the price of admission! At the end, there is a wonderful garden center/gift shop. And don't forget to get your fresh strawberry shakes before you leave. We think they are the best!

Very few flowers only one small American flag. Very disappointed from passed years . I had told all the kids what a colorful flower garden they would see from our room and was so sad to see dirt ' . Only a small are with the flag and had to walk around to see it.

Beautiful! Worth a Single Trip or Season Pass

By Gil M |

We actually drove over an hour to visit this attraction. It was on a Wednesday, early in the morning. I would definitely recommend this. We heard over 10,000 people can come through on a Sat/Sun. We read that there is insufficient parking at this location and it is true. We were fine for early morn/mid-week, but that weekend would be bad. We were told that some had to park far away at a hotel, and some people even gave up and left it was so bad. Try either mid-week or early morning or both. Another thing we didn't know, was that the flower fields were all one kind of flower only---ranunculus. Having said this, it is still beautiful. There are many different colors of ranunculus and the massive scope is very impressive. Entrance is $14 (for seniors, $16 otherwise) and there is a separate $5 fee for the tractor ride around the fields. I think the tractor ride is a good idea. It was kind of quaint, gave a good view, and there was a recording of the history of the place. You can on and off again if you want to walk around. A season pass for those close would be a fun place to go and do your walk for the day. There are many tents where there can be various activities and certain times, and many places to sit and relax. While there many be only ranunculus in the fields, there are many other kinds of flowers on the grounds. In particular, a very fun place was the sweet pea maze. Fun to walk through and of course the smell of the sweet peas was wonderful. If we live closer, we would probably get the pass and do our walks there frequently. 1 hour was fine to do the viewing and the maze. If you wanted to relax more, I still think 2 hours would be fine.

An Ocean of Flowers

By Lance2002 |

I have been here 3 different times but not lately until my last visit. It has changed a lot as there is a lot more to do. Besides the flowers, they have a bird and butterfly exhibit. Go early there are a lot of people visiting during flower season-mid March to early May. I suggest taking the tractor ride to the top of the field and walking down through the flowers. I have several cut out as you go down where you can be in the field but not stepping on the flowers. They also have several very large chairs that you can sit in to take pictures. Plan to spend about 2 hours there. If you want to view the fields for free, then go the street above the fields where you can look down into the field. It is definitely worth a visit when you Carlsbad and the general area.

Beautiful Flowers

By Jean A |

Beautiful flower everywhere you look. Some were familiar and some I had never seen before. We enjoyed the wagon ride, it allowed us to see more because we would not have been able to walk that far.

Springtime Joy

By Dennis S |

We look forward to the glorious ranunculus flowers on display every Spring. It is a Rainbow of Colors. You can get up close by walking or taking their wagons. Don't miss their Rose Garden !! You can buy bulbs and cut flowers, too.

Breathtaking

By blahblah951 |

Truly a beauty. Went this week with my girlfriend. Great place for a date, lots of pictures taken and we hit the beach after since its nearby. Everyone was polite. Plenty of stuff to do and walk around or you can take the wagon ride if you don't want to walk

Pretend you're having a good time!

By Charlie_Bites |

I spent a week at the hotel overlooking the fields. It is a low key attraction that, for whatever reason, gets hundreds of visitors a day. There is really only two things to do there- either walk the miles of dirt roads around the flower fields or be pulled behind a tractor around the fields in a cart. Either way the people looked very bored. Sometimes I would see women just walking by themselves. Sad.

Extraordinary place for flower lovers.

By Susan S |

I love the Carlsbad Flower Fields. How lucky for you if you are in the San Diego when they are in full bloom. It is also right by a Discount Shopping Mall, Legoland and an In and Out is close by. Save room in your car to buy some strawberries from the vendors who will be off to the side of the parking lot. Put this on your list for sure if you visit San Diego/Carlsbad in the spring. After a visit you'll never order another floral display without renunculus.

most quiet and beautiful place

By awynne2018 |

It is great to walk in solitude and peace amongst some of the most gorgeous flowers. A must see while in Carlsbad. It is also near the outlet shopping area.

Take the time to smell the flowers

I'm always about getting my money's worth; so when I saw the $14 entrance fee, I made sure the family took in more than just the tractor ride . Even though our visit was in late March, the flowers were in bloom. The $5 per person fee for the tractor ride was worth it as we had a a good overview of the vast flower field. The kids loved it as they never rode a tractor. We loved it because it saved us energy to wander the other sites such as the pavilion housing the orchids which were at the other end of the entrance.

There were a couple of stops to take pictures. A bench is available at various points for photo ops. When we were there, a staffer was available to take group pictures. She did a very good job as she knew which angles to place us to ensure a great shot. As it is a working field, staffers are keen to ensure visitors don't cross the taped off areas.

After getting dropped off, we went to the green house housing various types of poinsettias. We never knew there so many different colors. We then listened to a band while the kids played in the kid's play area before heading over to look at the orchids. Before we left, we took had strawberry sundaes and shakes from the Carlsbad Gourmet in the garden before the exit.

If you are pressed for time, you may not enjoy it as much as we did. Go to their website to see what other events are scheduled on the day of your visit. Take a hat, sun screen and comfortable shoes.

What a place to see

Now they are replanting and getting ready for spring. This place is really neat though. Tons of flowers to see. I love it.

Carlsbad Flower Field as of March 9, 2018

By jform-t |

Last year I reviewed the Flower Fields and described them as the best year ever. As a result several people have asked about the status of the fields this year.
As of today (March 9th) the flowers seem to be a bit behind the traditional schedule. Perhaps this is due to the lack of significant rain this year, or perhaps the ranunculi were planted late. I've attached three pictures taken today. All three were taken from the top down -- the opposite look from the main entrance. The "center" picture shows the middle of the attraction; and as you can see, there are very few flowers visible. The "north" picture seems to be the area that was planted first, and there are some flowers visible. The "American Flag" is at the southeast part of the property. The blue had matured nicely; the red and white need some more time.
My guess is that it will be another two to three weeks before the Flower Fields are at their peak. I hope this helps.

FABULOUS!!

By patita s |

Don't miss the beauty of the gorgeous Ranunculus of every color, except blue. Everyone was so nice and welcoming, the grounds had fountains, birds, SWEETPEAS!!, a playground for kids and mining, a little fairy garden. We too the tractor ride, of course, and at the top of the fields you have a great view of the fields and the Pacific Ocean.

A fun and memorable day of beauty with my friends at a very reasonable price and free parking. :-))

Beautiful colors and flowers = AMAZING photos

By Starnutzer |

Our family of 4 (13 yr old son and 15 yr old daughter) visited along with a family friend. We were all blown away by the expanse of the fields and the stripes of color were visually stunning. They had various points with benches and area for photo opportunities but it was impossible for the camera to really capture the vastness of the fields. Our daughter loved taking photos with the colorful backdrop, our son loved the sweet pea maze and even helped an elderly couple through it too. They had various spots to collect stamps in a booklet and that entertained him as well. We liked learning more about the history of the farm by watching the video in the barn - I would recommend that if visiting to understand the history a bit more. It took 10-15 minutes. Our son also liked being a "panhandler" and looking for gems and gold in the Sluice Mining attraction. The price seemed a bit high for just walking through and admiring the flowers but I also don't know where else you could go to see fields as beautiful as these.

NICE PLACE FOR FLOWER ENTHUSIASTS

By bunso15 |

I visited this place 2 weeks ago with family and friends.
The place is really great for flower lovers.
They have a wagon ride, few food stalls along with a garden area where they sell items.

Parking - lots of parking.
Ticket price - not bad, seniors has a discount.

Do look out for the "Pizza Trolley" though, staff was really snobbish.
My friend and I came to their stall as they were opening up, the staff did not even bother to ask us what we need, just kind of pretended nobody was there and the 2 of us were right there in front of the cashier area - very disappointing.

Do try the lemonade stall, very refreshing.

Prettier from a distance than within

By David K |

If you are willing to pay a lot of money ($16 per person) for some photo backgrounds, this is a fantastic way to spend a day. It is beautiful but it is even prettier from a slight distance outside of the fields themselves.

I think most people who are honest with themselves will admit this is a colossal waste of money.

Breathtaking views of Ranunculus

By 60nantucket |

I am in the flower business and have only seen fields on ranunculus online in Holland. The fields at Carlsbad are gorgeous. the care and effort for all of these bulbs to bloom at the same time is nothing short of a miracle. The colors and the view MAGNIFICENT!

Gram-Worthy, as the young folks say

By traveldan21 |

As a Southern California resident who has made the LA/San Diego trek more times than I care to remember, I have seen the Carlsbad Flower Fields in the distance many times. But I finally decided to visit and was happy I did. Due to the sheer volume of the blooms of ranunuculus flowers of many different colors, the views are very impressive. The grounds are well kept and rope lines keep folks from trampling the flowers. There are strategically placed cut-ins where one can take photos that can make it seem you are standing in the fields. I was impressed that (at least during Covid), these areas are regulated with entrance/exit areas clearly marked.
The one thing we encountered that was a bit annoying is that there were small groups of young folks who insisted on taking dozens of photos of each of them posing every which way to ensure they got pictures worthy of their Instagram accounts. I know I probably sound like an old man yelling, "Get off my lawn!" but it would be nice if everyone could have some consideration and let others waiting cut in occasionally before they continued their quest for the perfect, killer image to populate their social media.
Note also that, at least during Covid, there were no refreshments available, and there's not a whole lot to do other than take pictures of and with flowers. But it is definitely worth doing once.

Must visit!!

Nice place to visit with children.
They love the view of unending flowers, of course we too!!
Colorful flowers will make you and your camera to blossom for sure!!
Go for it!!

Worth the trip

By Isunwin |

My mom and I drove down from Los Angeles to Carlsbad solely to visit the Flower Fields. It was certainly worth the trip! These fields are spectacular. The flowers are bright, beautiful and well kept. Because my mom has difficulty walking, we paid $10.00 extra (5 each) for the wagon ride. This took us up the hill where we were left to walk around at leisure. When we were ready, we got back on the wagon and down the hill. The only thing that surprised me about these fields, is that it’s right behind the outlet malls and off a main road. Nevertheless, I would definitely go back!

Breathtaking!

By cdub757 |

We were in San Diego and our trip coincided with the prime blooming season for the ranunculus flowers. Our family (two kids 13 & 11) spent a morning here and took hundreds of pictures of the beautiful flowers, enjoyed the tractor ride, the sweet pea maze, the orchids, poinsettias and really enjoyed the entire experience. This was an unexpected gem on the West Coast! Really special memories made here!

Feast fir the eyes

By AsianAmericanWoman |

Beautiful and flowers blooming now.
Make sure you drive up a block for the oveview.
You won’t get that view in a few years as the company has planted many trees along the perimeter to block the view from the street.

BEAUTIFUL

Loved the ronuculus..breathtaking how many. The rains earlier in the month made it spectacular. Take the tractor around was super fun. Loved being able to buy the seeds.

If your looking for a place to feel happy and see all the natural beauty that flowers can bring then come to The Flower Fields @ Carlsbad Ranch. There are beautiful flowers as far as the eyes can see.

Flower Fields of Carlsbad

By Angela G |

I have lived in So Cal all my life. I live just down the street from the flower fields. People come from all over to visit the fields. They are pretty to see, however. The parking is horrific, it just clutters the entire area, not a great experience for families to small children. They do not put up anything really for the kids, they need to add some things to do to make the experience better. Add some areas in the fields so people can sit and take photos. Props of some kind would be great. You can also view the fields from Armada Street, just off Lego Land Drive. It is a beautiful view at sunset and it is free from the street. There is a mile boardwalk with benches to view. Perfect for lil ones to take a scooter 🛴,

Beautiful flowers everywhere

By Holly N |

Beautiful flowers! The only reason for a 4 out of 5 review is we went during the week, and a couple of schools were there. The kids were out of control, destroyed the bathrooms, and no one could clean them up.
We took the tractor tour, and it was very informative. The flowers are amazing! We visited the butterfly garden where you can feed butterflies, amazing! Loved it!

When the flowers are in bloom, they are just beautiful!

By uniquelyus |

When the flowers are in bloom, they are just beautiful! The fields can be enjoyed either by using the attractions tour carts - etc. , by walking through them but we like driving up to the top of the hill just behind the fields and looking down on them! There are sometimes humming birds up there and the smell is wonderful from the flowering fields.

Disrespectful Staff - NEVER going back

By Matt T |

Took a tractor ride and made the "mistake" of putting one foot on the floor and one knee on the bench for 20 seconds to look for our evening event, when tractor driver slams on the break violently jolting the whole carrier. Then some scolding woman bolts over and says "see - that's why you need to sit down at all times". Clearly a coordinated effort between driver and scolder. Other passengers, one of whom was a dad whose daughter was sitting on his lap that got thrusted into a metal bar described the whole incident as "very inappropriate". Letting that go, we walked back, only to have a 20mph staff golf cart wiz by us kicking up tons of dirt and dust. This was way more dangerous that a one knee "stand".

The flowers are fine, but I am NEVER going back. Done with 1st grade scoldings from disrespectful staff, and dodging high speed golf carts.

Super Pretty in the Spring

This place is totally worth coming too. Lots if flowers and color. If you are visiting the Calrsbad area then at least take a drive by and check it out.

SCENIC BACKGROUND MEMORABLE PHOTOS.

This a great location for memorable photos with loved ones.
I know because I cherish the photos of my mother who is now gone.
This gorgeous field of flowers should be experienced by all at least once.

Unsurpassed Beauty!

By 0221Serendipity |

The beauty found at The Flower Fields of Carlsbad is astonishing to behold. We saw it from a distance and were compelled to visit. This is another must see for tourists. The Flower Fields open every year in March. Can't wait to go back.

Was worth the trip. Definitely fun with families and kids. Everything was very accessible with a stroller and even had family bathrooms.

Don't wait for Mother's Day

By Annette |

This is a Mother's Day weekend tradition for many in Southern California, but we usually go during the week prior as it is so busy on Mother's Day. It's a great reminder of what most of Southern California used to be - flowers, strawberries, and other agriculture. I appreciate all the care and planning it takes to beautify this lovely hillside by the coast year after year.

Gorgeous Colors!

By Famluv2travel |

Not often do you get to enjoy such a beautiful background for a photo shot. Only available to tour during April-May. Check for specific days if you’re going in the future. There are lines to pay for the entrance tickets which go smoothly. Tickets are $16 per adult and an additional $5 for the tractor ride. The tractor takes you out on the perimeter for you to enjoy the full fields. You cannot walk into the flowers randomly but are allowed to take photos at designated areas. Restrooms available and so are drinks and snacks. Great find is the assortment of strawberry treats at the back of the Nursery that you can purchase. Only drawback is parking your car can be frustrating. Be patient.

The Flower Fields at Carlsbad

By Anthony Gwan |

We went there the first week of April. The weather was great to take lots of pictures and enjoy the beautiful flowers field. They provided certain spots to take pictures among the flowers, you have to line up a little to take turns with other visitors. Please take pictures in these spots, don't wander around in the flowers, not allowed by the security. Outside the Field, there are plenty of restaurants.

Flowers are beautiful....Price is outrageous!

By insight2actions |

I understand that places to charge for the venue, yet this is part of a large commercial nursery...not an amauzement park. I love beautiful photo ops too. Yet, the price for walking around a large nursery is outtrageous. You have been warned. There are many fabulous botanical gardens in northern San Diego, that you can see color and flowers.

Fun in the flower fields!

By pncs |

My friend and I took our young sons to the flower fields and had so much fun! We rode the wagon(extra $5 on top of the $18). The boys loved the ride and it was a good way to see everything. The flowers were absolutely gorgeous. We went around 9:30 am and it did get very busy by 11 or so.

Fields in full bloom!

By Gail K |

The flower fields were amazing! Well worth the admission price. We enjoyed the tractor ride which gives you a nice history of the fields. Be sure to stop the sweet pea maze!

Flowers to die for!

By Terri512 |

It is impossible to imagine all these flowers in waves of color. The ride in the wagon around the fields is great to get a perspective of just how enormous the quantity of flowers is. They have a sweet pea maze which was a first for me. Kids and adults love it. Information on pointsettias and orchids was ok.

Good colors, priced too high

By JeffersonKid |

The Flower Fields are 50 acres of various colored flowers all of the same type. The admission price for your own unguided walking trip is much higher than it should be. As an old saying goes "you've seen one, you've seen them all." Not much to excite anyone other than painters and parents with kids that need to run off energy. Save your dollars and try Legoland nearby.

Beautiful flowers, great spot for tourism and kids area

By apkercsak |

We decided to FINALLY go this year and took the tractor tour of the area. It was a bit of a wait, but we weren't in a hurry. Beautiful flowers, and then walked around. There is a great spot for kids to play- they have a few spots with bird cages, not a fan b/c they seemed overcrowded and unhappy. Go for the flowers though- its worth walking around and experiencing it.

Mesmerizing View

By TripMami0331 |

The staff at the flower fields was polite and helpful. The variety of flowers are breath taking. Kid friendly.

A beautiful sight to see!

By Dean92802 |

This place was amazing. The acres and acres of ranunculus were just so colorful. This is a working farm so dress accordingly. You can walk amongst the fields and even rest on benches throughout. There are quite a few little nooks where you can go in amongst the flowers and take some great photos. Aside from the fields there are gardens a playground featuring remnants of Santa's Village, a maze, and a wagon ride. Just like Disneyland, you exit into the gift shop where you can buy the fresh cut flowers for $10.

Not open except 3 months of the year

By Kathryn M |

Little more than false advertising. The “fields” are dirt most of the year. They advertise their are holiday activities; we saw none.

Beautiful and oh so colorful!

By GitchSup |

What a stunning place!! We stopped here to stretch our legs during our road trip and it was amazing. We were there just before they close on Mother's day so I was worried the flowers would all be past their prime. I needn't have worried, they were beautiful! We had a nice sunny day and got to stroll through the fields of color at our own pace. They offer a "wagon" ride if you like and there are a lot of photo op areas like an old tractor you can pose on in the field. There are other garden areas that are interesting as well as the flower fields, I particularly liked the small section about Pointsetia's and the varieties available, there were some I had never seen before. I would recommend this stop to anyone traveling the area while the fields are open, even if it means you have to drive out of your way.

Beautiful but somewhat underwhelming, especially for the price

By AN1605 |

This was a beautiful place but for the $20 entry price and the hour and a half drive that we undertook, the experience was somewhat underwhelming. The blooms were not as vivid as I expected — I’m not sure if this was due to the fact that we visited on one of the last few days of the season.

Tip: The view from the far end is beautiful, although the land slopes downwards from this end, given the ocean in the background.

Too expensive!

By Bettie K |

I thought the price of $14.00 was too expensive for what there was to see. The additional $5.00 for the old wagon ride really confirmed this. If the wagon ride was included it would have been better. The prices for flower pots and plants was very high. I could buy a pot for $7 at TJMax and the same pot here was $35.

Awesome Colors!

By Kathi B |

We visited the Flower Fields on a Friday in mid- April. The crowds were fine, the flowers were still gorgeous and the weather was perfect. It costs $16/person for seniors not including the wagon ride- which we didn’t find necessary. We could easily walk the uphill slope to view the rainbow of colors. It can be a bit windy at the top of the hill so take a light jacket. Wonderful place for pictures!

A Springtime Treat"

By belliottsanders |

My husband and I love to visit every few years and it is always a joy. They are very kind to folks who have a companion in a wheelchair. Both are admitted free ! It is a challenge to push someone in a wheelchair as it is all dirt/gravel.Great way to get a workout!! The best way to see all the fields and learn the history of the region is the Tractor Ride. It is only $5.00 and well worth it. if you love flowers and appreciating nature. this is the place for you. The Armstrong Garden Center which is attached has a lovely gift shop.

Nice beautiful Flowers

By Elizabeth G |

We went to the flower fields on Easter Sunday. it was our first time going. The flowers there are beautiful. If you are taking children, a good way to keep them entertained is to get the passport booklet that is given at the entrance. With this small booklet, children search for orange flags and stamp the booklet at the flag station. It makes it fun for them. At the end of the hunt, you can show your completed booklet at the mine and get a $2 discount for it. They also have a kids play area. My children really enjoyed that.

Picture this: Flowers, Family, Food and Fun

By viajeramadrileña |

Went here with my family for last year's Petal to Plate celebration in Carlsbad, which happens every April and combines a trip to the Flower Fields with dining delicious things at participating restaurants who make dishes with (of course) flowers!

The Flower Fields are a MUST in spring and will boost your Instagram feed with amazing color and vibrancy. People are fun - looks like they have the job we all would love - just enjoying the gorgeous sun and helping people enjoy flowers.

I recommend doing the $5 tractor tour (the fields are huge and it helps to see them from above), and definitely buy flowers from the on site garden shop when you leave. The are the freshest flowers you will ever have (my lasted three weeks!!).

Seasonal

By Janet H |

This is a local favorite so avoid weekends if you can. Although during the weekends they have many vendors and music going on. If you pay for the wagon ride, just take it to the top and walk back through the flowers. Remember this is a seasonal adventure, only open from March 1st to Mother’s Day.
You can bring in your own food and drink but no booze. With the outlet mall right next door and within walking distance there are plenty of places to eat before or get it to go. Once inside, plan on spending about 3 hours. And don’t forget your camera. As it gets closer to Mother’s Day the flowers are not there best.

So many flowers!

By Jana W |

This must be seen in Spring when the flowers are at full bloom! Great day outing with friends. There are nearby places to eat and shop. Plus the garden connected to the fields is a good one.

Vibrant colors from the beautiful flowers for all to enjoy

By Jimmy |

Took a short trip to visit the Carlsbad flower fields before it is over for the year. Price was a little steep but manage to save just a little with my AAA membership. There were rows of red, pink, yellow, purple and white Tecolote Ranunculus flowers. It was a Monday and relatively quiet. Parking was free and the weather was a little overcast but just nice for a outdoor visit. Spent about 2 hours walking around snapped some memorable pictures with the wife.

On the Pricey Side

By Hoagy74 |

It’s gorgeous. Fantastically beautiful truly, but the 16 dollar per person price tag is outrageous and so I left my family at the hotel and came alone. It is just too expensive to justify the entry price for a family. They should offer a discount price for families. Also it’s rows and rows of the same flowers in waves of color. You can get down and get pictures but you can get the expansive view for free from the Legoland Road. They should consider lowering the price to about 10 per person.

Very vast and colourful flower fields

By vrvaid |

The Flower Fields of Carlsbad are huge and offer great views of different coloured flowers spread over a long slope of land and great to watch and capture in your cameras.
The best time is entire month of April to first week of May when the flowers are in full bloom.
Since it’s a very big area, they offer a free ride in tractor trolleys that go the entire long periphery where visitors can get great views of the various colourful fields
There are areas where visitors can take pictures with flowers as background.

Great Outing

By TheAmazingRain |

We came past prime blooming season, but it is still a sight to behold. A crowd for mother's day was to be expected, but nothing a little patience couldn't handle. It's bigger than you'd think.

Beautiful!!

By Docsherri |

We spent only about 1.5 hours here on a Friday and my husband and I enjoyed it. The tractor ride is worth it, just sit on the far side as you enter the seating area so you get the good pictures, as you are not allowed to stand up while the tractor is moving. The sweet pea maze was the only disappointment. I didn’t get the wonderful scent that everyone wrote about. But we did get great pictures in the various areas you can access at the edge of the flowers. It was not busy the day we were there the timing was perfect.

My husband and I took a trip up to Carlsbad on Cesar Chavez Day to visit the Flower Fields. We'd seen the flowers from the highway but never ventured into the facility. It was well worth the $18 entrance fee. We decided to skip the wagon ride and walked up to the top of the field instead. It was an easy walk and gave us a chance to photograph the fields from the different levels as we made our way to the top.Don't skip the garden store which has many interesting gift options including ranunculus bulbs so you can take the Flower Fields home with you.

so pretty

By Jody G |

Unable to reserve a place using my phone, however was able to purchase my ticket there. Despite it being a little chilly the day I was there it was beautiful. My issue was the ugly building in the background of my photos of the fields, what an eye sore.
Gorgeous flowers everywhere, nice place to spend a couple of hours enjoying the sights and scents.

🌸 **A Vibrant Slice of Paradise!** 🌸

By Paula P |

The Carlsbad Flower Fields was eye candy with the vibrant colors and beauty! Visiting during peak bloom season is an absolute must—rows upon rows of ranunculus flowers stretch as far as the eye can see, creating a stunning patchwork of colors. It feels like stepping into a living postcard!

The fields are well-maintained, and the entire experience is thoughtfully curated. Whether you're strolling through the blooms, snapping photos, or taking a relaxing tractor wagon ride, there’s something magical for every visitor. I also loved the sweet fragrance that lingers in the air—it’s pure bliss.

There are plenty of photo opportunities, and the staff is friendly and happy to answer questions about the flowers and the history of the fields. Don't miss the charming gift shop for unique souvenirs and plants to take home.

We went for a family outing, but its also perfect for a romantic date, or even solo exploration. It’s a place that lifts your spirits with plenty of gorgeous photos to cherish.

🌼 **Tips:**
- Arrive early to beat the crowds and get the best lighting for photos.
- Wear comfortable walking shoes.
- Bring a camera or your phone fully charged—you'll want to capture the magic!

🌷 A must-visit gem in Southern California! 🌷

Gorgeous and great for some time outdoors

By Jeanine A |

All the years of driving by the flower fields, or standing at the beach and seeing the array of color- we finally visited. My MIL had taken my youngest boys to the fields, years ago, but I had never taken myself. Sure I starred from afar, but being up-close and personal was worth it. Even though they are teenagers, they appreciated the ability to run and yet, enjoyed the time.

Worth it to buy the tickets for the tractor. Dress nicely and take pics!! Lots of places to feel like you are sitting among the flowers.

No flowers at this time

By selfevident |

Despite the pretty pictures the hill is barren at this time. The summer temperatures in Carlsbad aren't conducive for growing flowers locally but the grocery stores have plenty of bouquets to purchase.

Never seen anything like it!

It was a beautiful day and we even picked blueberries and took a wagon ride.

Great Attraction for Both Locals and Tourists

By gordonc11 |

The Carlsbad Flower Fields are a great place to spend a few hours admiring the acres of colorful blooms. A tractor powered wagon ride is available for those who'd prefer it to the walking. Bring a camera and have fun!

Beautiful experience!

By Caroline L |

The flower fields are a great way to spend a few hours if in the San Diego area. The sheer colors and beauty of the flowers should be enough to bring a smile to one’s face. There are great photo opportunities too as they have cut away certain sections so you can capture the essence of being in the flowers. They have a 6.5 minute time limit in the cut always but my experience was that people were really respectful of taking their photos and then moving on. The tractor ride was helpful ($6) to get an overview of the entire fields. There’s a few small carts here that offer pizza, kettle popcorn and strawberries/ice cream. The parking is free but I’d recommend to come as early as possible on the weekend because it gets very busy. Overall, my friend and I had a wonderful time with such a unique experience.

Absolutely Beautiful

By Renee C |

I would highly recommend going here. This is only open certain months of the year because of the blooms. And bring a professional photographer or family/friend to take pictures of you and yours

A nice place to spend the day and take pictures

By emlazo |

Parking is a bit crazy but just take your time and relax, people are leaving all the time.

Once you find parking, get your ticket $16 each for an adult.

Make sure your phone is fully charge so you can freely take lots of pictures. Dress comfortably and wear good, comfortable shoes because there is walking involve if you want to see the many acres of the different colors of Ranunculus. There are many vendors you can visit to buy kettle corn, lemon ice, jewelries, beautifully designed greetings cards, beach knick knacks, shortbread cookies and other things.

The kids could also visit Santa’s workshop, pan for gold or go through the sweet pea maze.

If you have older adults who may have trouble walking or the kids don’t want to walk too far, there is a tractor wagon ride you can go on to take you around the flower fields. It’s $3 a person. There are also different types of poinsettias you can see as well as cymbidium plants.

When you are done, you can go through Armstrong’s Garden to pick up some Ranunculus flowers and bulbs among other plants and gardening supplies and decorations.

It is better to just drive to the EAST side of the flower fields and view them for free!

By grhoades2014 |

Lots of family arrived and I paid to ride the tractor pulled vehicles around the lot. Better choice would be just to drive to the EAST side of the flower fields and walk around to view them for free.

Too early

By NationalParksTrails |

Spring has not yet sprung here yet. Season opener was Friday, very few flowers accessible near entrance. Also very wet. Some flowers on farthest fields. Wait a few weeks for full bloom.

Fabulous Flower Fields!

By J O |

This is the place for gorgeous photos. The fields are in full bloom end of April-mid May. Go early, as this location gets super busy later in the day. It can also get pretty warm walking around the fields. Don't miss out on the strawberry shakes! They are yummy! Make sure you have lots of time to explore all the gardens. They have a tractor ride around the whole field for those who don't want to walk it.

Beautiful

By Paul S |

Impressive operation.

We dropped in for a visit during April 2021. The attraction itself is well reviewed so here's some logistical items for your consideration:

1. Parking. Yikes, this can get crazy crowded. My recommendation is to head for the dirt lot on the very south east end of the property. The walk it longer but there will be spaces and way less competition for a spot. If you look on Google Maps, the dirt lot is right at the intersection of Palomar Airport Rd and Armada Dr. From the main entrance, turn south, drive to the end of the parking lot and then turn east into the dirt lot.

2. Move around the fields. Most people, for whatever the reason, were congregating in the center aisle of the fields, waiting to take pictures with everyone else. Literally.. I think there's close to 90+ acres of fields. Get away from the crowds to take your selfies. There is so much color here you'd do yourself a favor to be a bit more selective about where you get your pic.

3. Food. There's a strip mall just to the north of the fields. Stop there for food.

Flowers of Fun

By WLHammons |

Great place to visit for families or just to hang out with friends. Nice atmosphere with fun nostalgic activities to do through out the day.

A bit disappointing

By Natalie H |

There is no denying that the fields of the ranunculus flowers are spectacular! The way they are laid out in a rainbow spectrum is just gorgeous and the individual flowers are really beautiful. That said the overall farm was quite expensive just for this view ($26 per adult). There are some cute activities for little kids such as a hedge maze and searching for 4-leaf clovers, but everything else was extra charge - including the tracker ride to the flower field. It was lovely, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend this to others.

The flower field at Carlsbad needs more varieties of flowers. It is just flowers with no artistic presentation or design. It is not worth it considering San Diego has so many interesting sightseeing spots for free. The man we talked to driving a golf cart was arrogant.

Beautiful flowers

The flowers were amazing and we took many pictures - a great place for a photo shoot if needed. If you are healthy the walk is perfectly doable and you can view the flowers at your own leisure. We didn't do the tractor ride. I'm glad we did go but it was a bit overpriced in our book. There were only 2 of us, but would be pricey for a family affair and you only need at most 2 hours. Do not get the strawberry lemonade or regular lemonade. It was not good and it cost a small fortune. If they are going to charge that price make it amazing and we at least wouldn't have felt like we got ripped off. The place is super clean and well maintained - that was a plus.

Spring Flowers

My teenage daughter loved the photo ops, we spent an hour getting the right pics - she was very excited and it seems like a lot other young people had the same idea.

April is a great time to visit - everything is in bloom. Would have been a 5, but $16 entrance fee per person seemed a little high.
