Iconic and Futuristic!

By Jack |

Iconic and futuristic mall. The Oculus is a must visit in downtown. It is full of stores, restaurants, and more. I highly recommend!

Stunning Architecture

By Josephine Foo |

The Oculus is the World Trade Center Transportation Hub with train station, plaza and shopping mall located adjacent to the memorial site for the 9/11 attacks.

Beautiful architecture

By Gabby |

It is a very nice subway station and shopping center, located next to Ground Zero and the financial district in midtown Manhattan. It is worth visiting and admiring the architecture and lighting of the place

Iconic

By JeffBreedlove |

Well, the art is certainly distinctive and iconic and worth going to look at

The American flag is stunning

It’s nice and clean

There seem to be nice shops, but I went for a quick look at the architecture and enjoyed it very much

Beautiful place to visit in NY

By vickysadventures |

This is the only Shopping center that does not make me feel anxious. The structure is amazing and brings the idea of being in heaven.

bold architecture

By globtrotteuse |

Stunning bold architecture that opens like a bird's wings. Take advantage of this to take magnificent photos.

Impressive look - slightly underwhelming experience

By Krishna R |

The architecture and look from the inside is quite impressive; But the overall experience is not spectacular or out of this world. Very functional shopping area with paths to the metro and the PATH

Stunning architecture. Worth a walk through

By Peter S |

Visited on the way to the 911 museum. Stunning place to photograph and walk through. It’s a shopping mall but the most beautifully designed and created one. Worth a wander through at least

Something out of the ordinary

By coconutugly |

If you’re downtown doing Wall str and the World Trade area then it would be inconceivable to not visit here. Inside there isn’t that great an ambience but it is an architectural gem, which didn’t exist 25 yrs ago when i last visited. Shops and goodies inside and free entry.

The Oculus - a very impressive building.

By Eoin M |

Well worth seeing, I visited it as I was visiting the 9/11 monument and had heard it was worth seeing. Its huge inside, very impressive. I wasn't interested in shopping, a bit like visiting Grand Central station without taking a train.

The Oculus now one of my favorite places to visit in Lower Manhattan. Visit 2 times this summer. Always recommend this p

By Alla F |

The view was amaizing, we took so many photos. Great place to meet. Easy to find meeting spot. Lots of shops. Easy to get there from Somerville NJ.

Meh.

By BuffyLou |

We stopped here to shop. The shops were ok, but the public restrooms were awful. Long lines, no soap, very smelly. Do not recommend. We were there on a Thursday morning, not even a busy time.

Mind blowing.

By taffy92 |

I can honestly say I’ve never seen a shopping mall like this. All high end stores, but still worth a walk around. You can even catch the subway from inside. Nice way to spend a wet few hours.

Great Architecture

By Med |

The Oculus is the most modern Subway station in New York. It has coffee houses, Restaurants and Retailers. It connects to the One World Observatory and the Brookfield place shopping centre with high-end retailers. It is below the Twin Tower memorials.
A must for all visitors.

Beautiful structure

By Tasha B |

Visited here for the 1st time as last time i was in NYC this wasnt here. Its an amazing building and worth a visit. Plenty of shops here too.

A wonderful piece of architecture.

By Andrés Blanco |

The exterior of the structure looks futuristic and wonderful. Once inside there's no much to see, just a few store and stairs. Only worth visiting if going through the city sightseeing other sites.

Add to the list

By Indah Edlightz |

Oculus Center is a great tourist attraction, especially that its next to the 911 memorial and one world trade center. Great architecture and lots of shops and spots to take photos. the big bonus is that if you take the subway to the memorial, you will enter Oculus Center itself so it not out of the way.

We dug for survivors right where the Oculus is built—that land is sacred to me

By Shaun P |

The Oculus Mall and Transportation Hub is built on the very site that I and many others dug for survivors during the week after the 9/11 attacks. The ground upon which that structure is built is sacred to me. I was sad to see so much commercialism invade such a hallowed space. The more time I spent walking around it both inside and out, the more I realized that they had made the right decision. The symbolism of the dove with wings spread as it prepares to fly is profound. I stood at the very place where I was digging for survivors and spent time breathing and meditating. Most people do not realize what happened there and that the ground over which they tread is actually a graveyard where many lost their lives. Thank you to the designers and architects who had the vision to build an edifice that honors what happened there. I am writing a book about my experiences at Ground Zero during the week of and the week after the attacks. The world needs to keep in remembrance what happened there. The book is currently titled, "LEST WE FORGET 9/11 — MEMOIRS OF A CIVILIAN FIRST RESPONDER."

Great place to hang out

By Alejandra G |

I consider this to be a really nice looking building, it has plenty of shops and it is a good place to take pictures. The best thing I found was that it has these white seats in which you can connect your phone chargers.

What a veritable disaster!

By rokkap |

Oculus is solely a monument to its architect... where the general public has played no role! TRANSPORTATION HUB; what a JOKE.

Moving around Oculus is a disaster... as elevators and escalators are totally uncoordinated... and all signage is elementary and grossly missing. Any logic is painfully absent; that is why 'security guards' need to be stationed excessively all around... as the only means of finding ANYTHING.

ACCESSIBILITY is a JOKE at Oculus, as it is designed as a movement MAZE, with no understandable PATHWAYS.

Sure, WTC deserved a MONUMENT... but a MONUMENT to WTC, not a monument to the ARCHITECT.

The DESIGN is FANCY, but WHAT A DISASTER IMPLEMENTATION!

Amazing architecture

By richiesoft |

A must visit for anyone coming to New York. Amazing architecture and atmosphere especially at Christmas. Loads of shops and attractions in the area to explore

Photo Worthy Transportaion Hub and Shopping Complex with Stunning Architecture

By TravelingSoccerLoon |

Incredible architecture inside this multi-purpose building at the World Trade Center complex and includes a high-end mall but also serves as a transportation hub including the NYC subway and PATH trains to New Jersey. This is a photo worthy stop if coming to Lower Manhattan to visit the 9/11 Memorial or the One World Observation Deck. Quite amazingly, the structure's orientation serves as a lasting reminder of the attacks of September 11, 2001. It is in alignment with the sun’s solar angles on each September 11, from 8:46 am, when the first plane struck, until 10:28 am, when the second tower collapsed. Its central skylight fits this alignment and washes the Oculus floor with a beam of light.

Given the positive meaning from the architect, good. The monstrosity looking very 1984ish, bad.

By traveltheworld012 |

We took the subway downtown to see the WTC Memorial on Christmas Eve day, and had to go through here to get to it. We also had to go through here to catch the subway back to midtown so had opportunity to walk around. Far too much opulence, too reminiscent of a society run by a new world order. Being in here gave me a headache. Outside it is even more ugly.

Metro and LIRR station, shopping center and work of art!

By Frozen_72 |

The Oculus is everything and more: it is a New York subway station, a train station, a shopping center but also an attraction to visit, both for the external architecture and for the internal section, full of light and very particular . Located near the Freedom Tower and the September 11 Memorial Museum, it is developed on numerous floors full of shops, restaurants and fast food outlets.

Beautiful architecture

By Luca R |

Very nice this architectural structure of Calatrava even if inside the directions are difficult to interpret for tourists. Very nice also the whole WTC area in general. Very special also the artistic works outside.
Not to be missed.

Oculus NY

By Hospitality Mystery Shopping |

Lovely building in financial district located right next to World trade Centre. Has own train station with runs the 1 train from South ferry via WTC up to midtown manhattan. Loads of shops ample seating which look like giant pearls loads of police and national guard around. Nice place to visit

Beautiful building!

By rod48533 |

Amazing building, surreal architecture, and the location couldn’t be better right at the World Trade Center location.

Transit center, shopping mall, and memorial provides stunning views!

By MidwestKathM |

Santiago Calatrava designed this World Trade Center Transportation Hub, aka The Oculus, in lower Manhattan adjacent to the 9/11 Memorial. As ground level, it acts as a memorial to those who lost their lives on 9/11. Inside it provides access to various subway lines and is a shopping mall. All white, the building is is ethereal and inspiring with its wings that lift you up! I marvel at Calatrava's design everytime we visit New York City!

Moby Dick in the Big Apple.

By Conny Wylie |

Centerfold of the World Trade Center Hub is the Oculus. An architectural marvel, it is an over 350 foot long path and consumes about 75,000 sq. ft. of retail space.

The facade resembles the wing span of a giant bird-like monster in flight. On the inside, the mammoth hall sports large skylights which project the facility with natural light. When coupled with the white marble floor and the engineered rib-like walls, the interior emanates the innards of a massive white whale (Moby Dick).

The Oculus is more than a transportation hub as it is a melange between a railway station, shopping center, pedestrian tunnel and event opportunities. It is home to the Westfield World Trade Center Mall which affords tourists and New Yorkers a luxury shopping experiences and great eating venues. My favorite eatery was the 'Eatery', a tantalizing bonanza of Italian food fare as well as authentic fixings to take home.

The World Trade Center Station inside the Oculus connects NYC to New Jersey with the Path system and connects passengers through the Path and subway.

Unique architecture

By deepakgupta5 |

It is a shopping mall and a subway station combined into a unique architectural landmark. The shopping is nothing great as it is the same brands that you will find at most other malls but the overall architecture is very interesting. Do visit if you are in the business district

Beautiful design!

By MeeShellMidwifeRN |

Such a beautiful building, loved all the Christmas decorations too! Lots of shopping and eating. The most amazing subway station you’ve ever seen.

Quiet and beautiful

By Traci P |

Not what I expected. It was somberly quiet and quite beautiful, though. Signage could be better, as well as the concierge personnel.

Well organized, gobsmackingly gorgeous!

By Ben B |

This is a destination worth a visit on its own. The architecture is out-of-this-world stunning, one of the best buildings in that regard in the world. Just go, stroll around, you'll be amazed. Can't say any more, just go!

Very cook place!

By anne1998 |

Amazing architecture!! So unique. Great shops and restaurants. A must see in NYC! Great job in turning this path/subway station into a destination!

Super Beautiful

By Juanma S |

Beautiful and an amazing experience. It's so impressive when looking at it and walking trough it. Just great !!

Impressive (commercial) Landmark

By Harald Gracholski |

The Oculus is a very impressive architectural landmark that catches the eye. While the almost secular shape and white color do resemble some sort of dignified memorial, is it really a very nice mall. So don't be fooled about its commercial purpose. Not sure what it was intended to be in the first place, but it definitely is very well executed and memorable.

Great shopping

By osmondmrslesleyo |

Amazing building with a great selection of shops and food outlets. Worth a visit if your are visiting 9/11 and one world.

A dove rises!

By Brian T |

New York has many landmarks and attractions, and many that appeal to architectural enthusiasts. But there’s one fairly recent addition that continues to intrigue architectural enthusiasts, photographers, visitors, and many locals - the Oculus. I love it; I love visiting it and photographing it, and think it is a landmark of immense beauty and meaning. In a city dominated by box-like skyscrapers, it dared to be different. It’s low level, and is probably as far removed from a ‘box’ as architecture can get. It’s highly original, and very different, and those factors alone make it worth a visit. It opened in 2016 after 12 years of construction that was fraught with delays and controversies.

To me the best way to appreciate its visual splendour is to stand behind the North Tower Pool of the National September 11 Memorial Museum (the pool closest to the One World Tower). That way you will appreciate Spanish designer Santiago Calatrava’s intent. He intended it to resemble a dove leaving a child’s hands. You can see it in the tall, crossed steel columns that make up the exterior. Together, this series of columns form a pair of 350-foot wings. From this vantage point it all makes sense. It’s beautiful and deeply meaningful.

Inside the Oculus there is jg a vast open space that serves a number of important purposes. Firstly it’s a transport hub; secondly, part of it forms some of the Westfield World Trade Center shopping mall. I don’t have a great deal of interest in the luxury shops that seem to fill this particular shopping mall, but I love visiting the central space of the Oculus to appreciate its vast soaring roof and the simple yet graceful lines that bring it all together. And that’s why you should visit.

At various times of the year the roof beams are lit in different colours, depending on the time and occasion of the year. When we visited on Christmas Day the roof was lit in green and red. After Christmas it was purple. I also love the fact that the huge central space is left empty. The shops are on the surrounding balcony levels, and in the walkways which branch out from the central space. There’s also a fairly new food market area called Market Lane; there’s also a branch of the popular Italian food concept Eataly.

You don’t have to shop there or eat there, but as a landmark that dares to be different I think it is worth a visit!

Beyond Architecture

By Maria ‘Bing’ Reid |

This train can be accessed with several lines that stop here -

When you arrive by subway, exit towards the Occulus.

It is a grand building that appear like a dove with wings outside. But inside it is like a giant modern basilica but is not.

The center of this huge building is open and held by the exterior intertwined structure as seen from outside. It reminds me of wish bones outside. It is held around by the hallways of the surrounding stores in the mall around.

The Occulus is a giant mall and a subway hub that serves the Financial District. There are many stores and even restaurants attaches to it.

Visit the Stranger's project

By Jolie J |

Lots of stores inside. The lines for the bathroom were ridiculous. I loved visiting the stranger's project and which I had more time to read through more of the letters.

Art in motion

By skd22 |

This is a beautiful structure that is right by the 911 memorial. It is representing a dove being released in peace. It also is the hub of the subway entrance with retail shop.

nice place

By Matt L |

Nice shopping centre and architecture at the foot of the World Trade Centres.

Nice shops and plenty of space. Worth a visit to look at the building, it's lovely and has some history given 9/11.

Inside a space whale

By TeamWard |

The Oculus outside is like a set of whale bones the inside is like a space ship, fascinating design, plenty of places to shop and grab food, bit check out the design simply splendid

So much more than it first appears

By kunduku |

I saw this when it was first being built and never imagined it would become what it is today - a beautiful and incredible building, the feeling of light and space seems endless. We were only there as we were coming out of the subway but it made us stop and look and we soon realised it was an incredible space, used for many different activities such as art, cultural displays, music and obviously shopping.

Impressive

By Gollam76 |

After the 9/11 memorial , this is something which you will not forget . Either as a building and also as a quality shopping center with a special mood . Get down , smell it

Work of art and shopping center

By Alejandro0203 |

Interesting combination of architectural work of art with a shopping center. The first is much better than the second.
Incredible no matter how you look at it, it is worth visiting, not for the shops but for the architecture.

An underground shopping centre

By FedericoGrana |

The structure is very particular, the shapes make it interesting, inside the white color is the master, but in addition to being a shopping center, there is not much else.

Cool Building!

By J E |

This is a really interestingly designed building that is a mall and access to the WTC train station. There are shops and dining within, as well as a large center area. Definitely worth stopping in to view it.

Stunning Architecture!

By The Trusty Trip Gal! |

This building is one of the most interesting and unique places I’ve ever seen! I’m not really into modern architecture but this really did catch my eye!

It’s great to see and has a good variety of shops! The area is very spacious too!

The subway below is also stunning and it is great to come out of the subway to such a spectacular building!

Definitely worth a visit!

The Oculus - like nothing else in the world!

By TimP1972 |

The Oculus is an amazing facility in the 9/11 area. On the outside, it looks like an enormous dove taking flight and, on the inside, it looks like you are inside a gigantic futuristic creature. It's like nothing else I have ever seen on visits all over the world.

Besides being a transportation hub for the Subway System, it is a shopping mecca with a huge variety of shops.

Even if you just walk through the Oculus to take photos, you don't want to miss it!

Shopping, food, and Trains!

By JenRed2014 |

The Oculus is a huge, modern transportation hub located at World Trade Center. There are multiple subway stops and the PATH that converge at the Oculus. It can get a bit overwhelming to find your way from one end to another or to find a specific subway, so be patient and follow the signs or ask for help. There are also lots of high end stores, Walgreens, sit down restaurants, grab and go food, and multiple coffee shops so you’re likely to find whatever you are looking for.

The building itself is striking in its modern, bright and airy feel. You can’t help but stand in awe when you look across the wide open space and see that slice of light from the roof.

Delightful architecture

By jmcarol27 |

Delightful architecture. The design reminds me of the crown of Liberty. Location is accessible to the 911 museum and One World observatory.

So cool!!

By Asil12 |

This is an amazing piece of architecture. Such a great space to walk around, and even relax a bit. The shopping is great too. Lots of pop-ups too. I think it's a must see!

Goosebumps!

By Jered C |

Very intriguing architecture...looks like an eagle about to fly or touching down... when I learned about the money NY spent to have this one built makes u wonder what is it? The moment I saw it for the first time I can’t comprehend why this cost billions of dollars ...but once u are inside it, I became speechless...goosebumps...and wow!!! The solid marbles that was used, the clean lines of architecture, it feels like a hollowed ground, a cathedral, zen like feeling will engulf u...this will last forever!!

Festive must

By SueWolves53 |

This structure is part of the rebuilding of New York after 9/11 and it is certainly an amazing building. The effect at day and night are completely different with the way the light comes through.
The inside is a big shopping mall but it was decorated beatifully for the Christmas.
The Occulus links into the railway station and has underground links to One World Observatory.

Amazing place

By Eva T |

Architecture of Oculus which is World Trade Center Transportation Hub is amazing. I read that its design pays homage to the idea of rebirth and renewal which was important to the architect Santiago Calatrava and the reason is that it is located in the area of Ground Zero. Not too much is inside (there are good toilets) but it is a building which made me say WOW.

Nice connector to many trains and subways

By Annaline |

It is an upscale shopping mall - subway/train connector -hub station. There are some restaurants that are good for lunch .

Beautiful

By Roxana |

It is the most unpredictable in the city, walk until you reach some escalators as 5 stories high continue walking walk to the Winter Garden is another pink marble mall also spectacular

Stunning

By Potomac_11 |

Stunning architecture for what is really a high-end shopping mall. Great setting in lower Manhattan, The Oculus has a beautiful interior as well as exterior. Well worth a visit!

Different

By Stan P |

This a a wonder of architecture and is an amazing place. It has shops, access to subway and is across from the 9/11 Museum.

Beautiful and very photogenic sight, nice shopping experience

By Karina Eremina |

We visit Oculus Center every time we come to New York City. It’s photogenic, it’s beautiful and it’s superbly decorated for Christmas. The space is enormous and very quiet. There’s an Apple store here and a number of very nice upscale shops.

Visually stunning but confusing signage

By Jennifer S |

Arrived on the train from midtown to visit 9/11 memorial. Visually stunning but a little confusing to follow signs. Got lost going back to subway from One WTC Observatory.

Cool building

By Harry A |

It’s a very cool building. It’s a transit hub. It’s a mall. It’s not much else.

I stopped by The Oculus while exploring lower Manhattan to check it out. The architecture was cool to look at for a bit, then I went inside to find somewhere to sit after a long day of walking around. No luck. Stores were the same ones you find in just about any other mall. I came, I saw, I said “this place looks pretty cool”, and I left. Not much more to it than that.

Impressive Architecture

By Janet C |

Stunning architecture housing a lovely mall. Very clean and well worth a visit when you come from the One Observatory

The Oculus visit

By Lorie T |

Beautiful structure ! Like a white dive in flight into the light. I love the skylight which have it an airy feel. It's filled with unique shops and kiskos. Handicap accessible. The diversity street artwork nearby was awesome. Don't miss it.

Impressive Structure designed by The famous Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. The interior is much more beautiful.

By MichelMan |

Another great work from the famous Spanish architect Calatrava. The interior is much more impressive than the exterior.

Impressive Architectural Feat Born of Tragedy

By Daniel B |

Designed by Calatrava, the Occulus (from opening, I presume) is the entrance to the world trade transportation hub and the Westfield. To me, it also resembles the tail of a plane embedded in the Earth. Either way, the architecture is breathtaking in it's starkness.

Spectacular Meeting Place at Ground Zero

By Ray Shaheen |

This is Calatrava’s very worthy addition to downtown design. This uplifting multi stores place functions as the NJ Transit PATH station, subway stop, gathering spot, and shopping center for the throngs of travelers. It is the focal point of the World Trade Center, adjacent to the memorial.

Never disappoints me. A very cool building !

By 644AndreaC |

This is my third visit and the Oculus never disappoints me. Amazing design and architecture. What a cool building. Great shops and then outside there were a lot of stalls eateries, great variety of food.

Nice photo-op

By jcmtl1965 |

Beautiful building, very clean, but the stores are few and expensive.
It is nice that there an underground corridor between the Oculus and Brookfield Place when it's raining.

LOVE the Oculus

By AndyE224 |

Wonderful architectonical place with such great variety of shops and loved taking the PATH to New Jersey from here. Highly suggest visiting while in nyc.

Calatrava's distinctive design in downtown NYC

By BrakiWorldTraveler |

Anyone who saw any edifice of this famous and unique Spanish architect will easily recognize his amazing work in downtown NYC.
A spectacular, both inside and outside, architectural masterpiece adorns the World Trade center Plaza. It's a kind of building NY didn't have so far.
Huge and uniquely designed transport hub, shopping mall, food court and multi purpose space.

Excellent piece of engineering

By tinylass |

We got off the Subway here for the 9/11 Museum so arrived inside it. It's huge inside and wasn't busy on a Thursday morning. A good variety of shops and plenty of cafes and takeaway food places. You can go up the stairs/escalators to get a good view from higher up. Looks awesome from outside with the sun sparkling off it.

A Mall by Any Other Name…

By SuperTed19 |

Easily the most unique structure in lower Manhattan, it appears ready to take flight. After admiring the outside, be sure to take time to enjoy the inside. This a shopping mall, a transportation hub, and an architectural marvel.

The Oculus

By rodrigovitor |

The structure of this work is very beautiful, both inside and outside. The size of the station is impressive. Inside it looks like a shopping mall with many famous brand stores.

Great Place to Catch your Breath and a Train after visiting 9/11 memorial

By Nancy B |

I will not forget the Oculus, the modern version of Grand Central Station. It is the place where the subway trains and the New Jersey trains meet. It is a high end shopping center. It is a food court. It is amazing to see. The Oculus is easy to find. It is shaped like a dove taking off. A reminder of peace in the midst of the memorial. We were visiting New York in December. The Oculus was a great place to warm up, grab a bite, go to the restroom, and then hop on the subway to go back to the hotel. My friends were hesitant to go in, but could not stop talking about it afterwards. Do not miss it.

Way of Light

By reise3 |

Clean, modern shopping area & transportation hub. There are numerous shops, food court type eateries, & easy access to the subway & trains. What makes it special is the Oculus was designed to be a 9/11 tribute.

Perfect

By Anastasia |

Plenty of shops inside the Oculus, with access to a large Westfield shopping centre where you can also find restaurants.
Beautiful place very clean and very large.

Beautiful Oculus

By Lex Kiefer |

I love this Oculus for the shape, the openness, color, light and shadow, etc. It’s a great building to photograph, a great spot to visit. It’s like cathedral of light in a way, or Pantheon for it height. Nobody shops, that’s the problem for the vendors! Nobody cares to shop there and all the stores are struggling. I think the structure and space is not for shopping but to marvel for its great design, the mood to shop simply diminished.

Stunning

By bucketlisttravel |

It’s beautiful! I do agree with another reviewer that it does not match its surroundings. However by itself it’s stunning.

I like the architecture

By Manzurul H |

I live in New Jersey. I took PATH train to go to NY for my office.

PATH station is at the underground of this structure. So, frequently I cross this space and take photos every time.

Fascinating

By laura w |

Incredible space created by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. It's like being inside a huge white animal with the ribs and bones in sight. It is a connecting station but also a shopping mall and, of course, an Attraction in itself.

Great sight after the 9/11 memorial

By Liz A. |

This is beautiful inside and out! It’s shaped like a flying to represent peace which is very fitting. Inside is a shopping mall and a transit hub with concierge services and several floors. They have little pop up shops, food vendors and live events. Def worth the stop especially if you just need a break, a spot to stay dry or warm, and a quick bite eat or all of the above.

Shopping mall with beautiful atrium hall

By Kimitaka Sho |

The shopping mall is close to the 9/11 Memorial and directly connected to a subway station. It wasn't there the last time I came to New York, so it must be new. The atrium is beautiful, and you can take photos that look great.

Beautiful

By DipuKV |

The Oculus is spacious and sheer eye candy. Located adjacent to the 9/11 memorial, you cant but admire the place for its architectural beauty. Lovely.

The Oculus, 9/11 Memorial, Battery Park, and Staten Island Ferry: four places close to each other with no entry fee.

By ObservantGuest |

One of the nice things to see that has no admission fee. You won’t want to buy any of the overpriced junk at the designer shops, but walking through the place and taking a few photos is fun. Be sure to take a look from outside too. The above ground part is unusual.

Interesting building

By Yvonne F |

We had a wander around the Oculus to experience the wonderful architecture. A fascinating building, shops inside but we didn’t go in any. We just wanted to see the building.

Oculus

By RandomTraveller |

The Oculus looks more impressive in pictures than in person. While it’s an interesting, futuristic building with striking architecture, it’s a bit hard to navigate and find what you’re looking for inside. That said, it's located near the 9/11 Memorial, so if you're visiting the area, it’s worth stopping by to check it out.

Great building and great accessibility for wheelchair users

By Adam |

Great architecture, great building, very accessible all around and throughout inside for handicapped and disabled. Great photos!

Always nice visiting

By AndyE224 |

Great modern place to walk around, shop and enjoy it’s beauty. I never stop visiting every single time I come to nyc and it’s very inspiring

Oculus

By Sergio_G_G49 |

Excellent shopping mall and subway terminal, the best, undoubtedly the architecture and what it represents, in one of the most emotional areas of NY.

Peaceful music

By Deanne D |

This is one impressive roof on a subway stop. It is full of shops, peaceful music to accompany you and very clean public bathrooms. There are lots of places to sit if you wish.

Good for a walk through

By Odisco |

Lovely to have the AC on a hot day. Nowhere to sit and people get told off for sitting in the stairs. Higher end shops but not much to keep you there. Take some photos and walk through.

Modern Sculpture in a Building

By mikesierra |

A modern shopping mall and transport hub adjacent to the World Trade Center Memorial and museum. The architecture of the building resembles a large modern sculpture; perhaps the skeleton of a large bird. Well worth a visit, which can easily be combined with the World Trade Center Memorial

A shopping mall!

By Eileen T |

Not quite sure what the fuss is about - this is a shopping mall above a rail terminus with an impressive structure above it. Not a destination simply something of interest adjacent to the 911 memorial.

particular

By valygar |

the oculus is in fact a shopping center whose upper structure in particular catches the attention for the particularity and how it stands out from the outside even on the landscape of the area; there are several shops ranging from those of confectionery to clothing, in addition to the metro station, and is also a hub to pass by some areas of the new world trade center / ground zero (ideal maybe if it rains); definitely worth a ride, but I would not stay there more than half an hour

Magnificent Architectural Building Worth A Visit!

By Bhushan Timla |

The Oculus is an amazing facility in the 9/11 Memorial and the new World Trade Center. Developed by a Spanish designer, its very nice architectural building to see from the outside as well as the inside.
From outside, it looks like an enormous dove taking flight and, it looks like you are inside a gigantic futuristic creature from inside. It has a high-end shopping mall, and access to the subway & PATH train, everything has been well thought out in a hyper modern and unique design. Looks like you're in a sci-fi movie.

It's like nothing else I have ever seen on visits all over the world. Definitely worth a visit while in NYC without fail.

Architectural building

By Astrid M |

Beautiful architecture offering a nice shopping experience and places to eat. Perfect place to sit after visiting the 9/11 menorial

Art with Spanish signature.

By Álvaro T |

Whether you want to let the imagination of what inspires the styling of the building fly, or read about the real meaning on the part of the author, it is a masterpiece, especially because it is stuck in the area of World Trade Center, an impressive place.

Looks can be deceiving

By vix_36 |

When you walk by The Oculus spend sometime and go inside. I was really surprised when I went in. This place is amazing and clean. There are a lot of high end shops which might not be to everyone’s taste but it’s definitely worth a walk around

MODERN ARCHITECTURE

By PRAIRA |

An unusual, huge futuristic architectural structure that resembles a large airport terminal. This impressive, white place, built right next to the September 11 memorial and containing dozens of stores, also hosts many metro stations. You can take very nice photos from the upper floor.

Fusion of Form and Function

The Oculus is an architectural masterpiece that combines cutting-edge design with functionality. Its futuristic structure and commercial spaces make it unique and attractive to visitors.

Total Monstrosity

By monkeylvr |

At first glance from the inside it’s pretty impressive, but then as time went on I found many design flaws, including not enough bathrooms, escalators, staircases, sitting spaces, or dining options. The open, large, minimalist layout and color scheme felt very dystopic and one world order. The outside design is a total eyesore; doesn’t fit in with the surrounding architecture. It also looks like a female v. Attached subway station is amazing; very modern, and clean unlike the rest of NYC subway. If I was a New Yorker I would be more than a little upset that $4 billion in tax payer funds payed for this structure, while the rest of the city is falling apart and barely surviving (except for a the millionaire/billionaires living there; they are doing great).

Good shopping & Train Hub

By craig1086 |

This shopping center is beautifully designed, and brings in a hoard of natural light from outside. It's also a transit connecting station where you can take the PATH over to Jersey. Most people come here after the 9/11 memorial next door. There are lots of shops and cafes in here, as it's multiple levels.only drawback is that they probably need more restrooms. One of the best parts is that you can visit inside for free.

Impressive and unique

By Ellie K |

The Occulus is so impressive when you initially walk in. What a fantastic idea for a shopping centre - so unique and amazing to look at. There was also someone playing the piano which was lovely.

Architecture

By Amy D |

We came inside because we needed to get to the train station to NJ. Very nice! New! Clean. Plenty of shops. The outside, it’s architecture is an amazing addition to the solemn historic WTC. It’s also a great place to get out of the elements and sit and relax.

A must during the festive period

By Cazzas83 |

This wasnt on our agenda whilst in the city but having taken longer at other nearby attractions and trying to kill a bit of time we ventured in and I'm so glad we did especially with it being Christmas.

The building in itself is of a fantastic design and structure but with the added christmas decor it really is a splendid attraction. We saw it both during the day and night where the lighting is varied and it truly is magical and worth a visit during the festive period.

Better than expected

By Ray W |

Didn't know what to expect when my wife said she wanted to go and see this building, however as we were at the 911 memorial we decided to go in.

It's white!! No other word to describe it.
Clean, lots of shops and even though there are lots of people going about its a little bit of tranquility away from the outside hustle and bustle.

Stunning architectural jewel

By Luca Mastacchi |

Amazing structure, a jewel for photography lovers. At Christmas, the atmosphere is even more magical for those who want to visit, take advantage of the ice rink, or let go with some shopping. Very convenient also the metro stop directly inside.

A beautiful station

By Alessio M |

Is the new station build by archistar Calatrava. Many subway and the path crossing in this site. The indications are sometimes not comprensibile. You can eat and have shop inside

Not to miss!

By Fam_Stans |

Very crowdy, beautiful qua architecture, lots of shops, big subwaystation where all the lines of NY stop.

Beautiful memorial & train station

By AnnMayTravelling |

I think it is amazing what they made of the site of such a big tragedy. The oculus is a beautiful structure from street level (outside) but also from the inside. It is well worth to spend the time to step inside and admire the view from there.
I think the oculus is one of the surprise must sees in New York. Many visitors only visit the memorial pools or the freedom tower, but the oculus right around the corner is equally as interesting and worth visiting.

Beauty

By Paolo C |

Spectacular structure created by architect Calatrava in memory of the tragedy of 9/11. Located next to the memorial, it is of unique beauty.

Medieval church feeling

By Tom K |

Quite impressive, after all with the piano used by a random (?) guy................................medieval church feeling ..........certainly better inside than outside (Calatrava tends to decorate )

Unique architecture

By Naomi R |

The building itself is remarkable, though it does sorta look like something from outer space landed next to the World Trade Center memorial site as it doesn't bear any resemblance to any other architecture nearby. It seems to be something at the intersection of architecture an sculpture. I admired it from theh outside first. Once inside the light is incredible, and the whole interior is very white, both in terms of the color of the paint and floor and wall surfacees and the extraordinary amount of light coming in between the spines.

But honestly, once I took a look at what was inside this extraordinary structure, I wasn't all that interested in staying long as it was just a shopping mall with all thte stores you see at every shopping mall. And I wasn't really on a shopping trip. I was there for the 9/11 memorial. Somehow this didn't seem to have the same feel. So we left and continued walking around the memorial.

I'd say it is worth seeing but I was more interested in the memorial.

Stunning architecture

By Mae |

Looks like you're in a sci-fi movie. Its clean modern and has a unique design. There are shops, toilets and is accessible to to the subway station.

Awesome

By Jan L |

Go there. you will not be disappointed. You don't have to be interested in shopping. The Oculus is an architectural masterpiece that can only impress!

Oculus no seating

By James I |

Very cool building and shops but as someone else commented there are no seats. We just wanted a rest so sat on the floor and promptly were told by security that it wasn’t permitted. I asked where we could sit and got no answer.

Beautiful

By Ray |

This building is very beautiful and worth taking in when visiting the city. The layout and view is something that must be taken in over time.

Wow ! Amazing modern architecture.

By THE TRAVELLER |

Spectacular architecture opposite ground zero. It feels like a tribute to ground zero. Top end retail opportunites inside.

The Oculus

By lithlith |

Located right next to the water feature memorials of the world trade center towers. This is free to enter and contains a train station on the lower levels.

Beautiful building

By jane a |

Beautiful structure and very ambitious design. But it is beautiful.
Subway station below, actually you can see it from the subway from one of the lines.
Plenty of shops and downtown eataly next door

Traveling around the USA

By Arkadi |

A great place to spend a rainy day, just perfect for beautiful photos. For those who love architecture, this is it.
and also nearby is a memorial of two towers. These two fountains in the abyss are simply mesmerizing.

A piece of jewellery

By Julius S |

This is what it looks like when an architect gets a free hand. Beautiful lines. A piece of jewellery. Definitely worth a visit.

Oculus caught my eye😊

By ldjs |

Interesting and certainly memorable architecture, clean and modern space, a pleasure to walk and shop. Maybe a bit too sterile in somewhat shocking contrast in esthetics to old New York subway stations. Very airy and spacious.
Definitely worth stopping by..

Breathtaking

By Caroline S |

Simply the most amazing building , stunning structure to see , full of light and air, it’s like a cathedral. A must to visit.Free Of course, as it’s a Westfield shopping centre below.

impressive architecture

By KappaBet |

Very impressive particular architecture. We saw it both fully white and with the lights for 4-07 which made it look like an American flag, very impressive. If you can see it with few people, white gives a sense of peace. You cannot exit from all floors and even the elevators do not reach all floors, if you are not interested in the stores perhaps entering and exiting from the same point will save you time.

Home to 12 subway lines

By Adventure Diva |

This structure is a great place to stop by after visiting the 9/11 Memorial and Museum. Great Calatrava architecture, shopping and exploring.

Beautiful architecture

By Kal |

Very nice building. Interesting architecture. Huge mall inside. Near 911 memorial. Lots of shops inside

Awesome !!!

By CathyP1953 |

Oh WOW!!! My jaw is still on the floor!!! What a fantastic place to built on the site of one of the Towers! I was just standing in awe as I entered the building- so unique!! A must see while in New York City!

Mind-blowing Oculus

By Bea |

Absolutely amazing, located next to the 9/11 Memorial. It was opened in 2016 after 12 years of work. The building was part of the city’s plan to rebuild the World Trade Center after September 11.
It is a transportation hub and a shopping mall built alongside the One World Trade Center.

Different shopping centre

By George |

It's a different building if you take in mind the others around it. There are shops within it and the subway station that can take you from there to the uptown. Special architecture that you don't see it often.

Outstanding architecture

By Max It Out |

What an amazing building, the architecture is incredible, I love the engineering that goes into something like this, it’s massive inside as well, looks big on the outside and even bigger on the inside

Amazing shopping area!!

By Ed M |

It looks like something that came from space. Really nice structure full with many good stores. Must visit!

Terrible building.

By Kelvin S |

This is one of the most upsetting buildings I’ve been in. What is it supposed to be? It’s a terrible memorial, it’s a shabby mall. It’s a terrible station, they spread the platforms out so you now have to walk further train-to-train. It’s dirty and there is no place to sit. Whatever the architect intended, all the building says now is “drop your money and get out.”

Sudden Find

By Sachin0408 |

I was walking aimlessly around the area wen I came across this pristine white structure. Never did I realise that I was at the WTC memorial - Silly me.

The Oculus is not only a magnificient structure from the outside but equally beautiful from the inside. I must have spent close to an our inside admiring the structure and the way it was designed and built. Just one word - Fabulous.

Must visit and see for your own.

Calatrava in New York

By 𝐴𝑛𝑔𝑒𝑙𝑜 𝐷'𝐴𝑔𝑜𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑜 🇮🇹 |

Large and beautiful structure, designed by the famous Spanish architect Calatrava, which symbolizes the rebirth of the city after the terrorist attacks of 2001. In addition to representing an important hub for urban mobility in the Big Apple, it hosts an immense shopping centre. It is located in the area of the September 11 Memorial.

Winter Whirl Roller Rink available for lots of fun

By Adventure Diva |

Through mid January, this inside roller skating rink is available for your inner kid self to come out. Oh what fun we had. Tickets include a forty-five minute skating session and a rental of roller skates. Adult charge is $30 and kids over 8 years old can participate. Festive music is in the background as you roll away in the rink. Food vendors are also available.

Walk-ins are available but I would highly recommend you buy tickets in advance online. Also recommend you not bring unnecessary bags for this fun experience.

An average shopping centre in a beautiful building

By SMiriah |

Given an average rating due to this being a shopping centre, the architecture of the building is outstanding however the shopping centre doesn’t have many shops and it’s over rated. The building itself is worth looking around

Excellent architecture

By AndyB5542 |

We ducked in to get out of the rain. I was expecting a train station, but it is if face a shopping mall as well.

But the real draw was the ceiling. It really adds a lot to the open space.

Impressive

By Patricio E |

A spectacular architectural work, for the functional (it is a public transport station and a shopping promenade) and for the imposing. From there we went to the 9-11 Memorial and the new World Trade Center. You have to know him.

Breathtaking

By Yuri Kreyman |

This peculiar architectural creation is a testament to human creative spirit, even though Calatrava admits pulling his inspiration from nature (which proves to be true for this project too). Dressed in simple white, it finds its organic place in company of glass and steel.

Friday afternoon

By TP |

was really a sight, quite cool and really cool design, must have taken awhile to have been built but nothing quite like it

Best palce ever

By Zakary B |

OMG It is the best place EVER!! I love the desighn and everything else! Please Visit This place. it is the best.

Unexpected delight

By Lindsey C |

This was an unexpected delight. We took the subway from uptown to see the 9/11 memorial and I did not realize this also doubled as a subway station. It was clean, safe and easy to navigate. Plus it was beautiful to look at. I highly recommend going to visit.

Breathtaking.

By Phillip D |

You see this outside and then think wow! Through the doors and then your jaw just hits the ground. Just speechless. Haven't seen anything like this before.

The effort

By pattyH16 |

Worth a visit both inside and outside.
There are nice statues outside.
Huge inside for shopping.

The architecture of the buildings are beautiful, everything seemed a little out of the real thing

By Dalila M |

The views were amazing, very futuristic and modern, I loved the experience of walking in the oculus.
The architecture is first class

Stunning symbolic modern architecture

By top-trippers |

You can’t miss this if you are in the area of the WTC. It is an incredible, unique and brave example of modern architecture which deserves the rave reviews - although, like Marmite, I guess it won’t be to everyone’s taste. To be honest, we didn’t think it was as good up close as it is in the photos, but it is still impressive and worth taking time out to admire the architecture and symbolism. To some, the elegant, clean white lines and curves resemble a large space ship with fins. For others, it is the skeleton of whale, or the feathers of an enormous bird. It said to have been inspired by an image of a girl releasing a dove, symbolising peace – especially poignant at this particular location. Inside, the overall impression is serene and ethereal, like a cavernous futuristic cathedral. Until you see the commuters below and the restaurants and pricy high-end shops, it is hard to think of this as the third largest transportation hub in NYC. It certainly has the WOW factor.

4 stars for design - 1 star for lack of seating

By MemoryMaker5 |

This building is amazing. We were here as a PATH station stop from our hotel in Jersey City, but it would be great to visit regardless of the transportation need if in NYC, just to see the space. I would have given more stars just because of the design, but there is a real seating issue. And there are visitors that often need to sit. There are elevators and escalators to access each level if you're unable to do stairs. There are shops on the surrounding sides, and a little cafe on the first floor with seating. You much purchase something to sit there. Here is the negative about this building. There is NO other public seating!! This is a real disservice to visitors of this building/station. We had a family member who needed to rest their legs and wait for the other family members to explore the city for a bit. We ordered something from the cafe for them to use their seating, but after awhile they were asked to leave to free up the table. I don't understand why this building cannot have a multitude of benches and seating scattered about. There is plenty of space. Did we miss something? I had read a review that there was seating available, but it looks like they removed all of them.

Beautiful architecture

By Mélani |

Not far from 9/11 Memorial, it is a building with beautiful architecture.
You can shop there, there are quite a few shops.

It's spacious.

New York free travel

By Sheryl |

The white steel columns arranged in an exterior shape are shaped like spread wings, like white doves spreading their wings and flying, symbolizing the concept of New York's rebirth from the ashes.
It is located right at the World Trade Center station, connected to subway stations, trains, and PATH to New Jersey and New York City. It is the third largest transportation hub in New York.
There is also a department store WESTFIELD World Trade Center

Amazing architecture

By Christine R |

The Oculus is a stunning building and well worth visiting. The memory of walking into the building and seeing the amazing interior will stay with me. In addition to the wonderful architecture there are also a number of shops and cafes to enjoy.

Overwhelmingly average for a beautiful building with much potential

By Lex W |

There were very limited options to eat a full meal, with only dessert shops really. It is quite complicated to navigate as well as the internal maps being confusing. The range of shops were good though. There could’ve been more options for seating especially with the surplus of vacant space in the centre. The ice cream shop served delicious desserts with a wide variety of taste options.

Beautiful

By Silvia O |

It is worth the visit with right to many photos. Near the Eataly, MercerLabs and 9/11 Memorial Museum. Enjoy!!

Visit especially for the building's architecture.

By adriana |

The project has an incredible plastic look! The use of it as a shopping mall and the circulation I found confusing. It's worth the visit for the tribute and composition with The One.

Had to cool off

By Sn0w237 |

Building was cool to look at and good to get off the street quick to cool down. Lots of kids taking selfies and overpriced stores.

Oculus on the list

By Crystal |

What a view! The architecture alone made it worth the brief visit.. when we arrived I expected only upscale shopping. However, there was a cute little farmers market right in the middle! Fresh farm veggies and fruits for the people of NYC. I especially enjoyed the woman who sampled some upstate drinks to us, YUM. For being attached to a subway, this trippy place was immaculately clean! Just another quick stop on the must see list here!

Impressive structure

By robnh61 |

This is an architecturally stunning building housing an impressive mall.
Well worth a visit when visiting One Observatory and the 9/11 museum.

Soaring heights from tragedy - a spectacle to see

By CNYTravelers |

Our nephew took us here New Year's Day. Simply a-m-a-z-i-n-g ! I'm not into architecture but this is something you HAVE to see. It was still decorated from Christmas so it was seasonally pretty. Access from the subway or the street.

Lovely modern building

By Dawnie100 |

Huge place with some lovely shops inside. Not much in the way of eateries really attached to the train station to New Jersey and easy access to the 911 memorial

Yes Please!

By Exceedingly Seedy |

Cool building and lighting. Very futuristic with lots of shops and what better way to mark all the World Trade Centre stands for than rampant capitalism and consumerism. Yes please!

Eye of the storm

By aldabra007 |

Calatrava's architecture is easily recognized and it contains a decent-sized shopping centre, a large square and the train station. Larger inside than outside, it completes the 9/11 park and allows you to find shelter on cold or rainy days. For those who know how to play, you will find a piano on the ground floor available for those who want to give hope. Observe the mastery in creating livable architecture, in every detail.

Very nice building

By Rickced41 |

Very nice architectural building to see from the outside as well as the inside. We find a multitude of shops on the different floors, the train station on one side and the metro on the other.
It can be difficult to locate yourself despite the presence of a plan.
Beautiful building in honour of the tragic events of 2001.

To have

By newsey |

If you like modern and unusual architecture, this is a must see. Otherwise it is a shopping center and a train station. However, like everywhere in Ny, it is majestic. I have mixed feelings about this building between a work of art and useful infrastructure. Perhaps it was the proximity to the Memorial that disturbed me. It’s obviously worth seeing.

Beautiful structure of a shopping center

By E W |

Beautiful, especially at night to see the lights. The design was amazing. It is a very unique place and right in the heart of the other buildings

Stunning architecture!

By James A |

The Oculus is the architectural gem in the new World Trade Center which now includes a new tower, along with memorial museum and fountains where the original twin towers used to be. It’s definitely worth seeing.

Great use of subway

By Midies |

Great use for WTC subway during my hotel stay nearby. Did use area one morning for breakfast iced coffee was lovely and bagel was nice too.

ANOTHER OF THE GENIUSITIES OF THE SPANISH ARCHITECT SANTIAGO DE CALATRAVA

By Noemi B |

The Oculus and its Shopping Center are located where the WTC Central Station is today, where many subway lines, train lines and buildings in the Financial District are connected. It is crowned by a glass and metal dome called The Oculus through which light passes easily, illuminating the entire place. It seems that Calatrava was inspired by the way a child releases a dove into the sky that they are holding in their hands. Under this structure that serves as the roof of the enormous central lobby, is located the Westfield World Trade Center Mall, a shopping center with shops and restaurants. A beauty to photograph!!!!

Modern Transit Terminal

By Thomas V |

This is a covered transit station and shopping plaza. The structure is shocking, alarming, and some might think it pretty. It has become an instant landmark, but it also immensely practical.

One of the newest attractions downtown

By Michael C |

A new addition to downtown Manhattan that friends wanted to see. Impressive but shops are way too expensive for the average person, native New Yorker or tourist.

Very Impressive!

By Vanessa |

To be fair, it's very impressive! We wandered down to the 9/11 memorial and saw The Oculus and we were impressed. We went in to have a look and it's amazing how big it is inside!
No too busy whilst we were there, but a few shops, outlets, etc.
Definitely worth popping into if you're in the area.

Beautiful architecture

By tinaNtravel |

The Oculus is near the 1 World Trade Center and the 9/11 Memorial. The building itself is quite impressive and worth walking inside and taking some pics. The architecture is amazing and somehow reminds me of a whale’s baleen.

Oculus Transit, Shopping and Entertainment Termial

By bbbob84 |

This was my first trip through the Oculus as I rarely come to NYC via NJ, but needed to on this particular day. I was amazed at how nice it was. Lots of shops and kiosks for travelers if they need them. Well maintained and very clean considering the number of commuters and visitors that arrive and depart daily. Public restrooms were well maintained. We were rushing to make a train and appointments, but I would like to come back just to experience more.

The Oculus New York

By Hugary1 |

A huge inside space next to the Memorial.
There are food places and 3 levels of shops. Access the the new building and out to the courtyard for viewing the Memorial. To go up building there is a ticket of course.
Access also to trains.

Soaring Architecture

By TheLeongOhana |

Arriving on the PATH train from Newark we were greeted with this amazing looking building. Soaring white lines gave this hub a unique look and feel. I understood the design was intended to mimic a bird getting ready to fly. To achieve that look involved specialized steel, lots of unique construction equipment and extra time.

Besides being able to connect you to your train or subway, there were multiple stories of shopping and restaurants. The center of the structure was wide open with unique undulating chairs.

It was worth a stop while visiting the 9-11 Museum nearby or while transiting through the WTC.

Wonderful

By Sjabena |

A stunning building and very well thought out. The architecture is wonderful and it’s so serene in there even though it’s now shops.

From the genius of Calatrava

By angela0809 |

The building, designed by architect Santiago Calatrava, is a major public transport hub and contains a mega shopping center, a food area with a square and ice rink (and a Christmas market). Built on the site of a shopping mall destroyed in 9/11, it has a truly grand and original exterior and an interior cover that captures, absolutely to be immortalized!

Quick atop

By pedsnephron |

A short walk from the 9/11 museum. Impressive building inside. Not much to do inside but shop and eat. We spent less then 30 minutes wandering through.

Stunning

By N D |

Stunning architecture in simple, but effective, white stone. Free to enter and best appreciated from the upper level - a lot more impressive than the Guggenheim!

A modern marvel

By Emily K |

Worth a visit just to be in awe of what humans can build. Truly incredible to see. Location has fun things around it too and it’s a subway terminal so easy transportation and worth the stop. Fun but standard shops that any mall would have but very convenient and the setting makes even the most mundane seem special.

Beautiful Station

By Raquel Reis |

In front of the Rockefeller Center, it is a beautiful station, with many shops, stores and options inside. Nice place for photos.

Beautiful and intensely large building.

By Karrempje |

From the outside it's a beautiful building, but you don't realize how big it is. Once inside you see how beautiful and bright the building is. Offices, shops, subways come and go. Impressive building and fun to walk through.

What a tremendous experience!!!!

By Rebecca |

Incredibly beautiful! We were in awe of the design and marveled at the ability to turn something so tragic into something of such inspiration!

A Temple to Retail

By therichastill |

The Oculus is a magnificent structure. It is quite grand and stands out amongst the surrounding area.

I later found out that it was designed by a Spanish architect. It reminds me of some of the buildings close to the waterfront in Valencia.

As well as being a shopping center it there is also a PATH station to take you under the Hudson River to destinations in New Jersey.

The Oculus has a very peaceful ambience about it and worth checking out for a bit of retail therapy.

Magical Christmas mall

By BBQPhil |

We visited at Christmas and the decorations for Christmas were amazing. There is every store you need or don’t need. especially high end! The building is beautiful and a fun visit even if you don’t buy. Plenty of places to eat and drink, convenient to subway. Convenient to Freedom Tower.

Just a nice mall

By GregTrav28 |

If going go the 9/11 memorial or museum you have to stop by here and see this impressive architecture. It is just an upscale mall, but still a cool place to go into. A great reprieve on really hot or cold days.

White, white and more white

By rafrew |

Built above a subway station, this is a tourist attraction in itself. From the design of the architecture to the floor tiles, it a sight to behold. There is an abundance of white which gives The Oculus a very clean feeling. While the exterior of the building is a work of art, the inside is even more so.

Cool architecture!

By Carolyn F |

Nice indoor mall with shops, restrooms and even an art gallery, along with the subway. Outside there are several large art sculptures. Right near the 911 memorial/museum.

What a shining achievment!

By MelodiousOne |

This place is amazing, architecturally. Definitely walk here as part of the whole 9/11 complex. As part of the Port Authority, it too was destroyed on 9/11. What a gorgeous place to rise from those ashes. So festive at the holidays, too.

Another transportation terminal icon

By Mr. Fisher |

In line with the NYC tradition of grand public areas, the Oculus, by Calatrava is a modern masterpiece (another one is the grand central station). Just a few steps from the 911 Memorial, this addition makes this area of town a great destination. And when all that walking makes you hungry, Eataly is around the corner!

Amazingly Quiet and Peaceful

By 27Belinda09 |

This building is amazing in architecture and beauty. Some people say it looks like a ribcage, some a dove; I think it looks like an eagle. Whichever it is meant to be with the Freedom Tower behind it, it's stunning, inside and out.
The shops inside range from high end to NY memorabilia for tourists. There are bubble-looking seats. The subway and trains from New Jersey come through here. Take a look up and you see a slatted ceiling of art. You can't help but be in awe. It is peaceful to walk through here. It is nice to walk outside around it.
A must see for anyone coming to Manhattan or for a native New Yorker.

Stunning place

By lje823 |

We thought it was absolutely beautiful to walk around. We didnt find many shops that interested us but it was lovely to walk around and see all the stalls and decorations

Big Apple

By Nelson C |

Very good.
Meet this amazing place
The Hyatt Hotel at 39st where we stayed eh well located with easy access to qlq one of the tourist points of the city, the spaces are tight in NY, but we already knew what expected us because we had read enough to choose the hotel.
The breakfast served helps to keep the peak of the day, at the end of these warm days by returning still with sun until 20.30 hrs and with much heat already well tired, a good place to rest eh necessary.
In this hotel there is a person named Francisco always ask to assist the guests.

Intriguing structure

By MichiganMom71 |

We stopped here for a photo opportunity during a tour and it was definitely different than most things one sees in NYC. Not sure what the full tour of it would be like, but location is right next to the 9/11 memorials, so it is worth a visit.

Don't miss it!

By Alissa1727 |

A New York stop not to be missed. Beautiful architectural structure to photograph from outside. Inside there are several shops for Shopping (even New York souvenirs), restaurants, bathrooms (in case you need them they are nice clean) and train station.

Symbol of peace

By Dimitris L |

The Oculus is a futuristic building! Amazing architecture and a real wonder. It's a transportation hub and a huge shopping complex. The design shows a dove but it takes a bit of effort to actually see the whole thing. Worth visiting and having a walk through.

Architectural masterpiece

By Jochen M |

The Oculus is one of NYC's new attractions and an architectural masterpiece. It is located right next to the World Trade Center and is probably the most expensive subway station in American history. A must-see!

Very beautiful architecture

By Cyrille H |

Very bold and modern architecture. Just go down to the first platform, this will be enough to see the essentials and take photos.

Beautiful season

By EllenAndrade |

The station is very beautiful. I couldn't walk far to see everything, but the contrition is wonderful inside and out.

Unsure how I feel about this

By natters14 |

I visited here after visiting the 9/11 Memorial and after my friends, who are locals, mentioned it to me particularly because of the controversial and divisive opinions it creates.

I agree with one of my friends, in that it resembles the inside bones of a whale of elephant. I found it really strange, shocking and quite disturbing that essentially a Westfield mall was built on top of an area that could’ve been rebuilt in a more fitting way to those affected by the events of 9/11.

I took a look inside and found it was basically an overpriced mall (I guess due to its proximity to the financial district) and also houses some subway and train lines. The entrances and exits were confusing to negotiate.

Very appropriate exterior for area

By LovemyAcura🌵 |

The architect did an amazing job designing an exterior that appears to be angel wings in an area of national grief. It is a beautiful sight and appreciated by all that see it.

Modern

By Francesca T |

I recommend visiting both the inside and outside, modern and very welcoming place. To visit in good company. NY manages to surprise in every place of the city

Architecture shopping transport all in one

By Chris W |

An amazing piece of architecture. Now decorated for christmas it is so photogenic. Link between a few shopping areas and transport links so you can hide from the weather if need be.

They filmed part of john wick 3 in the connecting part to the winter garden.

Easy to loose an hour or two just wondering. Good free restrooms too if needed.

A must have photo on any trip

That's Oculas

By Christine O |

Impressive lovely atmosphere the dove shape was hard to capture in a single shot from the outside but worth a visit to see

Stunning architecture

By Marmitelover88 |

Just wow. It really is a sight to behold. I absolutely love the crazy architecture of the oculus! It looks oddly eerie from the inside and the white wings look like some sort of giant ribcage but I think it's absolutely beautiful. The shopping area is clean, sparkling white but doesn't have anything that you couldn't find anywhere else and it really needs some better places to eat but overall, it's 100% worth the visit just to see this grand piece of art!

stunning architecture

By Brent Whiter |

Fantastic photo opportunity - architecture is amazing. Do when you visit the 9/11 Memorial and Museum.

Incredible piece of architecture situated at World Trade Center.
Quite mind blowing and full of symbolism after the terrible events of 9/11.
A great place to take photos , shop and eat , also many connecting travel links are all under one roof.

A great piece of architecture

A great piece of architecture and a must experience together with the neighboring 911 Memorial.
A lots of shops though taking the underground Path to Newport, NJ, offers better prices and more shops.

Beautiful architecture

By Elisabeth |

The Oculus is unique and beautiful. I watched a documentary about it, and thought I would never come to see this artwork. When I did travel to New York, I wanted to visit it. I recommend to go to this building and walk across to the 9/11 Memorial.

Immense

By The Swiss Nomad |

After visiting the 9 11 memorial, we passed through the oculus on our way to the subway station located nearby.
The construction itself is massive, architecturally speaking very impressive and spacious, but in my opinion is a punch in the eye.
Inside there is a lot of free space and shops are here and there, I did not see a real concept (although I am sure there is).
Overall interesting to see once, but that's about it.

The Oculus

By dereksantiago |

The architecture of the oculus’s building is outstanding. Everything is all white and very clean. The subway for certain places is inside. It has nice fast food restaurants inside too.

Really neat

By WBJM2009 |

A very cool structure with shops and dining. Located next to 9/11 Memorial and Museum. Subway entrance/exit in the building.

Impressive Design!

By lachmanbalani |

Amazing breathtaking experience as you step out the subway station into the huge Oculus. Like its name suggests,it is a stunning eye-like design! It is basically a mall with tons of fancy shops and some classy restaurants and coffee shops.Situated below the new World Trade Centre.

Stunning architecture

By Carlos M |

Stunning shopping center in the heart of One World. If you go to the WTC, it is a must-see stop to see and enjoy the place.

Occulus is an unusual shopping mall and subway stop

By Sharon S |

Spent 4 days in NY, 2 on business. The Occulus is certainly an unusual shopping mall and subway stop. It’s right by the One World Trade Center and if you’re traveling by subway, it’s the subway stop too.

Good place for taking pictures

By ek1974 |

The Oculus is "Must Visit" place when you go to NYC. I highly recommend it. It is a good place to take pictures and to see the fabulous architecture.

For good peace

By Lorenzo P68 |

Since its inauguration I believe it has become the most instagrammable location in NY. I believe everyone is free to see what they see fit in their form (I have formed my own idea), the fact is that it is a true marvel from the outside and perhaps even more so from the inside. The light that pervades it is incredible. For the sake of those who believe that modern architecture is cold and does not communicate emotions.

What an A-MAZING Surprise!

By TyronMcDaniel |

On a recent trip to New York I booked a hotel near the 9/11 Memorial and was pleasantly surprised to discover The Oculus on the first day of my stay! I just happened to walk upon it as I walked out of my hotel and was visiting the 9/11 Memorial... I saw this HUGE white seemingly building in all of it's glory. I immediately started taking pictures and ventured closer to find a true marvel of timeless design & architecture! This transportation hub/train station also has some great shops (found some kicks I had to have and some cologne) and is always bustling with tourists and natives moving about the city. Loved the place, my biggest regret is I didn't take more pictures of it!

Breathtaking

By Kathy P. |

Wow! You will stop breathing for a second when you first come up from the train station. Just a beautiful building. Several stores for some shopping. But really just take in the beauty. Its free!

Stunning architecture

By tracyh3003 |

What an amazing structure, well worth a visit just for the WOW factor. There are some nice shops here too and handy that this doubles as the subway station.

Soooo beautiful

By Accrusion |

Evidently local New Yorkers like to hate on this place as too expensive and grandiose and something about a leaky roof. I found it very beautiful. The shops are a bit higher end than my usual interest, but I enjoyed walking around. For a half-hour.

Be sure to walk a bit away from the main mall to the PATH (?) departure area. Very pretty also.

Fascinating structure

By Rob M |

This is a very unique building that is reasonably new, the design creates such an incredible amount of space that it feels like the whole place is just empty, which in New York is an incredible achievement.

Amazing, must be seen to be appreciated!

By laceylouise |

This mall is an architectural masterpiece. You have to see it to believe it. It is out of this worldly. Photos truly do not do it justice. Don’t miss visiting here.

WOW!

By Raree18 |

Five years ago we visited the 911 Museum and this place was under construction. They have elevated the term, mall. Everything is light and bright. Makes you forget that the PATH station is here. The stores are all high end. Too rich for my taste, but a great place to window shop. The architecture is unbelievable, inside and out. A must see.

Top end shops in contemporary setting

By Malcolm W |

A delightful upgrade to the average mall, with many upmarket shops. Stunning exterior views in the evening.

Interesting architecture.

By Deb & Jake |

I dont know much about architecture, but I can appreciate this building and take it in. It stands out from the steel and grey crowd it has found itself in. It's worth a visit if you're in the area.

Impressive in actual design

By doctorfoxtrot |

Resembling the wings of a dove , this architectural design is indeed a masterpiece. Once the whole World Trade Center complex is completed , it will come as majestic . To think it is a Westfield mall, nice things come in different packages. I have uploaded photos.

Incredible architectural beauty!

By CookseyMom |

So worth taking a trip through, even if you aren't shopping. It was breathtaking. I felt like I was in the belly of a whale, with all its ribs around me. Such a cool experience to walk through.

Insanely well-designed! Beautiful inside and out!

By Arthur M |

The Oculus is where many subway lines converge, including ours from New Jersey's PATH Red Line. Upon exiting the PATH turnstiles, I was in awe, and I couldn't stop looking up towards the ceiling. The exits towards the street level are also passing through the viewpoints that are commonly seen in social media.

The outdoor view is also beautiful. Great complement to the 1WTC across the street.

Cool Structure! Love it!

By Margalita4NJ |

This structure is so cool looking that I can stare at it all day! Looks so futuristic--just incredible. I took so many pictures! There are high end shops and a few restaurants and eateries inside. Only problem is they close pretty early at 7 pm. Should also go at night and take pictures. Worth a visit.

Retail and transit

By d1sambiguate |

it looks kinda cool, but it's literally just some (boring, IMHO) shops and subway stations - not really worth a detour or a special trip to see

Stunning structure.

By ronjo81 |

Great shopping. Stunning structure. Restrooms a bit difficult to locate. Subway stop right here. Architecture’s dream.

Awesome building

By Draculas_Bride666 |

Even if you just com ehre to admire the building I can recommend it. It's super stylish and is like nothing I've seen before. Good selection of shops etc. but just enjoy it for what it is.

More than just transportation

By soulefultraveler |

Spectacular building, sometimes with live entertainment in the lobby. Shops, and access to almost every subway line. All clearly marked. New and clean. Bright. A real delight.

IMPRESSIVE CALATRAVA

By Felix S |

The Oculus is a construction of high architectural value made by Calatrava , it is part of the architecture in honor of the victims of 9/11, it is shopping center, station etc.
You have to visit it

Architecture to see 5 minutes

By jcr3883 |

A shopping center with bold architecture. Which offers free toilets.
The proximity to the September 11 memorial weakened the emotion of the memorial. Shows that business always triumphs

Surprise hit. Better than Grand Central Terminal. Amazing futuristic architecture.

By Jay L |

A Surprise hit. Better than Grand Central Terminal. Amazing futuristic architecture. Much busier and highlights what New York City is great and trendsetting at.

Unique visual experience!

By 24lorraineS |

It seems as if it’s placed a little awkwardly, nesting amidst the surrounding buildings, however, it is an amazing addition! When visiting the 911 Memorial you can’t miss it! Someone mentioned it represents a bird with open wings viewing the sky above through the openings in the middle. Inside is just as amazing - with cloud like seating throughout the middle floor area and outstanding shopping surrounding the center area. It’s definitely worth a visit - a work of art and ingenuity.

World Trade Center

By Eduardo V |

Great arquitecture!! Beautiful building with shops inside of it. I would recommend that if you would like to keep it clean put trash can al over the place. People wouldn’t want to go to the restrooms to dump a simple coffee cup. Take it into cosideration.

Worth the visit

By Angelina Pateli |

Architecturally speaking it is a great sample of modern architecture as all buldings of this creator. Easy access, subway connection, interesting.
It is next to the monument of the fallen which is much more important and should be treated with more respect than just a tourist attraction.

Very nice

By Jade O'Neill |

The building is big, beautiful and full of meaning. It brings back light and happiness to the area and it's also designed to be the wings of a white dove, very recommended visit

The Awe-inspiring Oculus

By mr_adj2000 |

Went there with my wife and brother this October 30, 2019. Truly awe-inspiring structure. Futuristic design that blends well with the other buildings nearby, esp the Freedom Tower.

I don't know how I feel about this

By CraftBeers |

We took a paid tour that walked us around the 9/11 area, towers and then into the museum itself. It was highly informative. When the towers fell they lost the underground shopping areas and subway train station center.

The two towers were all about world trade and business. A debate ensued on whether the whole area should be a memorial or should they bring back the businesses. The compromise was reached to do both. Several new buildings went up, but so did a memorial and shopping area. The Oculus was one of those outcomes.

I personally did not like it. I am in awe of the structure and technical design, but it just does not fit the area. It's a little like the glass pyramid at the Louvre in Paris. It's a modern thing in a non-modern area. It clashes with what happened here and look of the area.

The reason to come here is to see the structure. Otherwise it's just a basic shopping mall.

Beautiful Architecture

By Chris E |

I would suggest stopping by this amazingly, freakish building just to see it. You can’t miss it’s exterior if you visit the 9/11 museum. Do take a peak inside...it’s worth it. Doesn’t cost anything. There are some high-end shops inside.

The Avengers

By Francesco |

We visited this mall on the occasion of the tour of the Ground Zero Memorial a little to shelter from the cold a little because intrigued by the imposing structure that looks like an alien spaceship landed directly in New York (as in Avengers during the invasion of Loki).
Once my total ignorance of architecture has been ascertained, let's describe it for what it is.. an architectural masterpiece (in fact) perhaps a little out of context but undoubtedly fascinating.
Despite it being Christmas week the center was not crowded at all and it was really nice to treat yourself to a little relaxation between shopping and the many bars where we warmed up with a cappuccino.
What's more, having metro stops directly inside without having to succeed outside.
Super recommended to spend a few hours warm especially if the weather is not on your side.

Oculus: a window on Ground Zero

By Walter L |

Iconic building designed by Santiago Calatrava built on the ashes of Ground Zero. A beautiful and delicate shopping center and interchange station that develops into a large classroom sunk from the outside square. The large ribs that stand out upwards allow light to flood the large classroom creating a metaphysical and delicate environment. A place to visit, at all costs.

Sensational architecture inside and out

By Matt C |

Even if you don't shop the whole mall, or even to the tour The Oculus is worth taking the subway to just to see it and get some photos.

Just breathtaking

By moneil255 |

This building is just gorgeous and was decorated beautifully for the holidays! We went as the sun was setting and it was glowing blue when we entered. They had everything on the main floor decorated so you could get photos with different props.

The building looks like it is made from white marble! You can get to One World Trade Center from inside and don’t have to go to the street level.

We also took the subway from the bottom floor. Everything was so clean also!

Great stop for shopping and gelato!

By Elvia D |

We stopped at this mall on our way to the 911 memorial. I love this Mall! The building is beautiful. You must try the gelato!! It’s awesome!

So much natural lighting

By Kate |

This is worth a look. The design of the building and the beautiful use of natural lighting result in quite a spectacle.

Lots of shopping underneath as well as places to eat and use the restrooms.

Spectacular building

By Karin |

The Oculus was designed by the famous and quirky Spanish architect Calatrava. A huge building with the function of train and metro station WTC. On the outside the building looks like a bird, inside it feels like you are in the belly of a whale. Spectacular building.

Shockingly awesome

By Scott |

An absolutely amazing structure. Beautiful inside and out. This is a must-see for anyone visiting New York or for any local that does not spend enough time in the financial district. The Oculus provides access to the subway system and to the Westfield World trade Center shopping mall. But most of all, it's just a shockingly awesome place to be.

Long wait lines for women’s restrooms

By Vishalini |

While the architecture is stunning, the women’s restroom facilities leave much to be desired. The restroom on C1 had only 10 stalls, which is grossly insufficient for the large number of female visitors. This lack of adequate planning resulted in long lines, forcing me to wait 10 minutes just to use a stall. It’s disappointing that no consideration was given to the specific needs of women, especially in such a popular tourist destination. Unfortunately, this issue seems to be a recurring problem at most tourist attractions.

A giant work of art!!!

By Eduardo Lopez |

Without a doubt, its exterior is like a great work of art, it is huge and beautiful inside and out. It has metro and train stations, big brand stores, and a central space to rest.

Looking good!

By Matt S |

What a great architectural masterpiece, truly amazing.
Stands out but fits in well with the surrounding area, sharp clean edges make it look great. Shops and obviously subway inside.
Get your cameras out!

Incredible!!!

By Wagner Corrêa |

Sensational! Surprising! Beautiful!!! Unmissable!!!
What a magnificent place, the surprising and futuristic architecture, don't miss it!

Massive transportation hub building in Lower Manhattan

By Rich J |

This is a massive building that is a transportation hub near the former World Trade Center area. We were with a small group of photographers on a photo workshop. We all took a number of shots from the second floor balcony but unfortunately we could not use our tripods during our photo shoot. Striking architecture, at a very hefty price tag to build. We didn't have time to do a through tour of the beautiful building.

A world of its own

By Eyjolfur Gudmundsson |

A very interesting city with an incredible number of interesting places. Just managed to look at a few. The High Line was the one that hit the hardest, but also Roosevelt Island. Cardboard plates and plastic cutlery in restaurants and hotels were the most negative. Great subway

The Oculus……

By HolidaymakerfromHove |

Wow, what an amazing structure. It’s a transportation hub but also a work of art. Located very near to the 9/11 memorial pools so easy to combine a visit.

We only spent a few minutes here. It’s good to see both inside and out.

Some say it resembles a dove. There is a great animal structure outside too.

Well worth a visit when in the area.

A Few Tips About The Oculus

By Marty Bielicki |

There are a number of activities to do while at NYC World Trade Center. One is definitely taking the 9/11 tour through the museum. Second is to view the Fountains.

Close by is Liberty Park with the "Horse Soldier" statue and a large sphere that once was between the Towers, now damaged. A short distance is a chestnut tree dedicated to Anne Frank.

Some people like to take the ride up to the observatory. You should also include a visit through the Westfield World Trade Center Mall, also known as the “Oculus” which opened in 2017.

The design of the Oculus can be interpreted as the bones of a large whale. There is actually a tale at one end. The place is huge with over eighty stores.

There is a humongous Apple Store. There are a number of restaurants. We enjoyed going to “Eataly” and actually ate there twice. The food is good, but in my opinion, not great.

Even if you have a little time, walking into the building and seeing the beautiful Oculus atrium is well worth a visit.

It was ok but nothing special

By Laura |

We didn’t shop here as it’s rather expensive but we walked through as we used the PATH train which was easy to use. The place was really clean but the only downside was the smell of the toilets….good heavens that needs addressing, stale stench of wee was so strong it put me right off going back.

Whimsical building in tight environment

By Serge Ydo |

In the attack on the towers of the World Trade Centre, not only these two buildings were destroyed. Surrounding buildings, mainly offices, were also irreparably damaged. Numerous new large buildings were built around the new tower of the WTC. The WTC and the surrounding buildings have in common that the architectural style is quite businesslike. Pretty nice, all those clean lines. You can also find it in the two 9/11 monuments, deep water features right where the destroyed WTC towers stood. In 2015, The Oculus (Latin: the eye) was opened. A large, unusually shaped building, junction of bus/train/ferry/train lines. The design of this building is by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava (*1951, Valencia). He is known for his futuristic designs .. his buildings, bridges etc. can be seen all over the world. The Oculus in NYC, according to his own words, depicts a rising bird and is partly intended as a monument to the 9/11 victims. The huge building, a construction of glass and white-colored steel with whimsical shapes that most resemble the wings of a bird, stands like a strange duck in the teeth among all the sleekly designed new buildings and memorials of and around the new WTC. Somehow that wrenches .. at least I feel that way. Nice building in the wrong place .. but especially beautiful. Both ex- and interior are spectacular .. so definitely go see.

Architectural masterpiece

By StephenCross |

The Oculus is almost like the heart of the financial district as it’s a transport hub, shopping area and restaurants. Took over 13 years to completely. The rib structure is a eye catching design.

To be seen

By mariposa6812 |

Impressive construction near Ground Zero, inside which there is a shopping centre, the subway and the tunnel connecting to One World.

Excellent magnificent architecture worldwide Calatrava great.

By Carmen C |

Magnificent architecture I am impressed with so much beauty is a work of art.Calatrava in its pure style.architecture at the highest level worldwide

What a lovely memorial.

By Mike T |

I was emotionally overwhelmed by this. You must take one of the 9/11 tours. No dry eyes. Great access by subway or Uber/taxi.

Spectacular but expendable

By Jenniferviajera |

The building is spectacular, a total work of art. However, I wouldn't go there just to see it. Yes, I recommend it if you go to the 9/11 Memorial, for example, because it is next door. We took the opportunity to have breakfast before going to the memorial.

Spectacular

By 420Lyn1 |

Very white! It’s an incredible place with gorgeous shops (expensive, if you’re an average person) and I’m so glad I stopped at the information desk. I asked about the design and the lady told me it was supposed to represent a flying dove and we were standing in the area that looked like an eye watching the dove fly.
It would be a good location to film a futuristic place (maybe they have already, I don’t know). There are places to eat and for coffee, and as of February 2020 (when I visited) they are still developing more eateries there. It’s a very interesting place to just walk around, even if you’re not shopping. The subway is there for easy access to other parts of Manhattan.

Amazing place!

By love2quilt2 |

Coming up the escalator from subway we were blown away by this amazing piece of architecture. A little on the high end for actual shopping for me, but I did enjoy looking. The bathroom was a bit far from the main area but very nice as well as the choices available to eat inside. This is literally right beside the WTC/911 memorial and museum and is a fabulous subway hub for travel. It is also only about a 10 minute walk to Battery Park. When we exited outside and looked back the dove design and symbolism at this particular location was especially touching!

Mesmerizing

By MiamiMinime |

Definitely a must , even if you don’t get to the area or depart from WTC area on subway. Like most modern iconic constructions , at first sight it looks like out of place with the surroundings , beautiful , but out of place ( remember the pyramid at the Louvre?). Once in , you are swallowed in the gigantic space that is the Oculus. The world famous architect Calatrava designed it , with the only difference being that there no open space as he intended ( in the ceiling it is covered by glass. This was a bitter concession for obvious weather implications and safety ( read lawsuits I guess). There are plenty of stores , nice places to eat and plenty of reasons to take pictures. It is stunning , majestic, modern , aesthetic minimalism that at times makes you feel you are Jonas inside the whale.

STUNNING!!!!

By Maryanne S |

Amazing feat....NYC is back in a major way....please visit this piece of architecture.....MUST SEE! The shopping is phenomenal also...had a nice chat with the REBAG sales person...interesting! But all in all the WTC is definitely back in business....and one can take the subway there....no problem!

Beautiful movement and architectural success

By Régis1972 |

Between the One World Trade Center Tower and the 9/11 Museum, you can’t miss the Oculus, a large white bird-wing building. The Oculus is home to the WTC Transportation Hub, the World Trade Center station from which PATH trains depart to New Jersey.
The Oculus replaces the old PATH station, destroyed in the attacks of September 11, 2001 and the collapse of the World Trade Center towers. a magnificent building worth a visit, colors on the interior lighting at night, a shopping center and access to the subway, everything has been well thought out in a hyper modern and majestic setting. Beautiful is great architecture.

Stunning

By Mermoz |

Stunning architecture designed by Santiago Calatrava. Simply avoid the “food court” on the lower level. Very successful building.

Great architecture

By Noodle Arms |

This is a huge building which has brilliant and unusual architecture which is great to see. Otherwise it’s full of shops with some places to eat. Just next to the 9/11 memorial and museum.

A master piece of architecture

By Steve Lewis |

This shopping mall is superbly designed from the outside and form the inside.

Inside, there is plenty of light and it is easy to move in between all the shops

Transit Transfer Point

By Thomas V |

We were here to change subway trains and we walked through part of this complex. It also functions as the link to the PATH trains. It has gradually evolved into a shopping and eating complex, but the main function is for transit. Looks kind of wild outside, dramatic architecture.

Side Trip

I had meetings from afternoon into the evening in lower Manhattan. Visiting The Oculus was on my bucket list. Beautiful inside and out. Beautifully decorated for Veteran's Day! Worth a visit.

Definitely Worths to See

By uzmelissa |

An attractive, modern, futuristic design. It's interior and exterior looks like the same but it feels different, a well balanced style. It deserves all the compliments.

Breathtaking design

By PeepJC |

Wow, the scale and design of this place is just breathtaking. I was in awe when we entered, just a fantastic space, beautiful design.

Shopping Mall

By Shara C |

We visited The Oculus as part of our trip to One World Conservatory. The architecture was really interesting. We stopped in s few shops of interest. Basically, The Oculus is an upscale mall and that's about it. Really cool building though!

A building that rose out of tragedy.

By srpanderson70 |

The Oculus is a great combination of fulfilling a need to bring commercialism back to the area and creating a place to commemorate the tragedy of this area.

Mesmerizing

By CarolBradyGonzalez |

Incredible architectural experience. This is a do not miss sight and I’d love to see a light show with music from Star Wars.

Here's to you, New York.

By Janice I |

If I could go to any city in the USA, it would be NYC. It has something for everyone, meaning it has literally everything. If you're thinking, " I don't want to visit a concrete jungle," no worries. NYC is full of parks and vegetation and I'm not even including Central Park in that description. Speaking of Central Park, it's the all time Park of parks. You won't be disappointed. Visit NYC and see it all.

Worth seeing

By Melissa T |

Worth a visit. It's definitely worth seeing this inside and outside. Unfortunately it is just a shopping mall. So typically American.

the oculus

The oculus train station is a beautiful piece of architecture. It’s the home if World Trade Center subway. The building is designed to look like angel wings in flight.

Very swanky!!

By Josh D |

I happen to be a very broke college student!! I used to have money but money gets spent!! Whenever I spend too much money now my mom texts me and tells me
I’m too broke to spend all this money!! There is a psychological trick where broke people can go to expensive stores and restaurants and gush over them!! That happens to me what I did when I went here!! I have seen this place many times but I’ve never been inside!! I was alone today in FiDi enjoying myself because I’m not a very social guy and I always have a good time walking by myself!! It was very fancy inside and had a lot of expensive clothes and things!! It is a good place to go to if you are rich or want to feel like you are!!

Unusual building

By NLK |

This building is stunning; it doesn’t look like it would be huge inside, but it is!

Plenty of shops, something for everyone!

Worth visiting if you want high-end shopping or a restroom

By Janet |

The Oculus is an interestingly designed multi-level building, in the shape of an eye which is also supposed to remind one of the dove of peace, a reminder of the area's former occupant--the World Trade Center--having been destroyed by warmongers. There are many expensive stores in the building, and also entrances to several train lines. Most helpful if you're walking in the area may be a well maintained lavatory.

Pinnacle of Western Civilization?

By lilliend789 |

It looks like a Nike check mark made of granite shutters on the outside, like sci-fi meets ancient Rome consigned by Western Capitalism, not a single plant inside. Just flat white marble floor and bougie stores. No color, no plants, lots of empty head space. The sheer immensity of its poor political and aesthetic statement made me uncomfortable.

Gorgeous Space

By luv2travl003 |

As the reviews indicate, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I am with the majority here, who find the architecture interesting and beautiful. Oculus has multiple floors of good shopping, capped off at one end by Eataly, which has a beautiful array of foods for sale. Yes, things are expensive. So is life. Get over it.

Nice architecture

By Pinoks |

We came here in the evening of December 30, 2019. We were amazed by the grand design of the station with shops and restaurants. It was so spankingly clean. You could say that this was NYC reincarnated. This is not your typical dirty NYC place. How I wish the rest of NYC was like this.

Not worth it

By Lee P |

The architecture is very beautiful but the stores are bad and there are few stores open, there is no place to eat...

The architecture of Oculus is amazing and loved to see it here ,good for a short visit and exterior is better than interior

A magnificient architectural feat!

By Seasondtraveller |

The building is most unusual and very elegant, and highly symbolic. Inside it is less exciting, as it hosts... a shopping mall.

Oculus architecturally stunning!

By Joan M |

The subway in the area of this structure is clean, well lighted and lovely. The building itself is beautiful inside and out, but it really is just another upscale shopping mall.

Always looking for the best perspective

By olgan545 |

It doesn't matter how many times I happened to be at the Oculus (inside or outside) I have this desire for finding a new angle to photograph. Beautiful architecture design by the architect Santiago Calatrava. Love the shops, the atmosphere of this hub.

Beautiful

Extremely festive inside the mall! A lot of shops to go around and look in. Great place to walk around.
