This is a great place to get a panoramic view of Billings and the surrounding area. There is also a great walking path, benches to sit and enjoy the view.

If you have a few minutes before your flight. Travel out to the rim and do some sight seeing. Gray vista

Went here had great views of the city even though it was covered in smoke from the fires. Can be a little hard to find but great for walking

A lovely place to explore and get some exercise. There is a lot to see and do on the Rims and provides a interesting perspective on the City.

If you love to go for walks then this place should not be missed. We arrived right before sunset and we were amazed by the fantastic views of the city below. There are some stone steps that go down towards the city that we saw some people using.

Easy to get to from our hotel. Great view overlooking Billings. Could have been marked better on the map or with signs. Pretty smoky so the view was limited

The Rimrocks, or "The Rims" in local parlance, are a line of sandstone cliffs that runs roughly east-west along the northern edge of Billings proper. Anything on top or north of the cliffs is "The Heights." The top of the Rims can be reached via N. 27th street (the Airport Road), by Zimmerman Trail on the west end of town, and by taking highway 3 from Main Street...it's called the Airport Road here too.
The Rims are technically the Eagle Sandstone, a Late Cretaceous barrier island...think Galveston or South Padre, and you'll get the picture.
Just west of Zimmerman Trail you can jump on your mountain bike and ride trails along the edge of the Rims. There are also many places to climb here for the skilled climber, but we ask that your reach not exceed your grasp. There's easier stuff east of the roundabout at the airport. There's a great walking path along the edge of the rims and you can park just east of the roundabout where it begins, or a half mile further east at the paved parking area. Take your valuables with you if you wander far from your car.
Black Otter Trail winds up the hill overlooking the Metrapark to Yellostone Kelly's grave. The best views of Sacrifice Cliff are from here.

This provide great views and pictures of the city below. Both locals and tourists go there. Go at different times to see different views.

If you are visiting Billings you must drive and park and then hike along the top of the Rimrocks. Take the kids take their bikes. What a fab view from the top. Great video & photo opportunity. It’s spectacular. Easy hike can do it on your trainers 👟 it’s just beautiful up there 👆

Plenty of places to pull over for photos! Nice road to take to get to the airport and see some scenery. Overlooks downtown Billings.

Our visit to Billings reminded me of a camping trip many years ago when I overnighted at an RV camp ground, that had a few tenting sites. Did a little exploring around the area and saw I was just a few yards from the Yellowstone river with these huge cliffs on the other side. Very peaceful area, nothing to hear but the river and the birds soaring along the cliff-sides. Something that you will always remember.

This area was not easy to find, but once we did, it offered a wonderful view of the city of Billings.

This is a must for anyone visiting Billings. Easy on and off the road access. The people in our group who just wanted to sit and enjoy the view needed to walk about 30 feet to sit on the rocks. Others could walk up and down the trails for hours. Only down side is the bathrooms needed attention and were out of paper products. Nice covered picnic tables with a great view.

Great city lights below at night. Romantic to a point if you can ignore the traffic whizzing by all hours and the planes landing and taking off every few seconds. Roll up the windows and put on the tunes and take in the view.

Great views of Billings and the surrounding area from these cliffs. Very hot and little cover from the sun when we were there. We started from the point near the airport - should have driven further east and started from the center of the park.

We did some mountain biking on the Rimrock and Zimmerman Park trails. I was not real crazy about the trails on the top but as you get closer to rocks below the trail becomes more technical. There are some great views of Billings from the rocks.

Amazing view over the city of Billings. I was visiting Billings for only a few days but spent several hours a day here just sitting on the edge over looking the city and seeing the beauty surrounding Billings. Great view at night!

The view of the Yellowstone Valley, the city of Billings and of the Beartooth Mountains in the distance is amazing. .there is walking trails and uncharted paths along the rims for the more adventerous. This is a must for anyone visiting Billings.

A wonderful hike uphill for views of the Billings area through exposed cliffs. Yellowstone Kelly's gravesite is being upgraded and we were unable to view it.

Go up for nice views and fun. Are was clean except for some graffiti. Wear good shoes, sun screen, and a hat. Take a lunch and sit on the rocks and enjoy the view. Just watch your children since there is a lot of cliffs and drop offs. There is a toilet with no water though. If you come up the steep hill road you get more nice views on the way up. Do not use the address on trip adviser and it will not get you there. Also make sure to take some water. This is also all FREE.

Be careful at the edges especially if hiking. Some animals and kid s have died by falling off the cliff. Beautiful scenery, family friendly. We both enjoyed the locations.

Driving or walking along the rims is an amazing experience. The views are just incredible. Each season brings different views.

We couldn't find the trail, we felt too odd walking around the vacant lot between the homes in the residential district where Google Maps took us, plus the scrub brush was a bit harsh and we weren't dressed adequately to get through the bushes. We ended up just getting back on the main road towards the airport and pulling off on the side to enjoy the view and take pics. Definitely beautiful, if I return and have more time I'll dress for the offroad hike and seek the trail.

We enjoyed a nice 1.5 walk along the rim rocks on a clear day. You get some great views of the city as it is very pretty from a distance. No wonder it is local hangout to come have lunch and enjoy a quiet moment.

If you're looking to catch a nice sunset, this is the place. It's a nice drive up and you can easily park. You'll have a nice view of Billings below.

Great views! Some of the trail was not marked but was able to find our way around. Very steep in areas. Worth the trip.

If you have a fear of heights this is something you should skip. There is a perilous road to reach the Rim Rocks and then the entire city is laid out for you. There are several pull over spots and a walking trail running along the rim. You can actually walk to the very edge of the rocks. This is definitely a spot to hold on to the little ones hand. If you have no problems with heights this is a fantastic vista. If you have a problem look up pictures online.

Drove the Rimrocks during the afternoon and at night both views were fantastic of Billings! The night view reminded me of where someone would go and "park".

You can't be in Billings and not notice the Rimrocks (The Rims to the locals.) They offer a dramatic backdrop to the city along with a beautiful vantage point to park and see the valley. East of the airport there are walking trails along the entire length. Just be careful if you want to climb on them. Sandstone tends to crumble.

Plenty of parking. Not only do you get a birdseye view of Billings, but you can see for miles and miles and miles.

We have passed thru Billings on a number of occasions but previously never took the time to see local attractions. This trip was to see what was around the city. This particular attraction is worth taking the time. The path along the ridge is easy to walk, extends a long way and the view of the area and mountains in the distance is awesome.

The Rimrocks are a gorgeous spot to visit. There are several parks/trails in the area and we went to Zimmerman Trail. It was a flat and easy walk. The cliffs are stunning to look at but they have very sharp drop offs so if you don't like heights, this isn't for you. Dogs are allowed. From the top of the rocks there is a great view of Billings. If you stand in the right spot, you can see all the way to downtown Billings. Very cool. The area we were in had lots of wild flowers, shrubbery and trees....lots of pines. There were also many boulders and slick rock areas on this trail. It's a fun place to sit and contemplate life. The only con was that there was lots of broken glass around from beer bottles and such. We were worried about our dog cutting his paws. Other than that, we enjoyed our hike.

If you've been to places in Utah probably you won't find this very impressive. Drive up was pretty. Apparently there have been car break-ins as there was a big warning sign the day I went there.

Great path to walk, jog, or ride a bike along at the top of the Rimrocks. Has a wonderful view of the sunset over Billings during the summer. Very safe, it can be a little noisy as planes and helicopters take-off or land if you are near the airport end though. It has great historical markers along the way too which provide background on events around Billings. You can drive up or hike up one of the paths (these can be a little steep).

The Rimrocks surround the valley. You xan walk aling the rimrocks on several established trails. The views of the magic city are outstanding from the rims. Worth the time to stop and take a stroll

This is Montana's only real zoo, most of the animals that come to this location cannot be released back into the wild which makes this a very unique zoo. The animals are beautiful and the zoo takes a great deal of time building natural environments for the animals.

I actually went on a 3.8 mile hike on the Zimmerman Trail and watched a beautiful sunset. This trail wasn't on this list so I had to put my review here.

awesome views of the city and the mountains in the distance. We walked along the edge in a few places. It's a long way to the bottom!

The Rims are an amazing natural feature. We visit Billings often and I love the view of the Rimrocks at the edge of the city.

You can walk, jog, run or sit and enjoy the rims. They overlook Billings and the sights can be amazing. Wildlife can be seen when on the path at times which is nice to see anytime or place.

Very frustrating! Two different sets of directions took us to the wrong place. Google please update your directions.
Just head towards Billings Airport and you’ll be in the general vicinity. Did a short walk around Swords Park which gave a good view of the city. It was really hot out so we just walked towards the airport and back. There’s two paths, one paved and one that’s more of a trail. The edge of the rocks is a steep drop off and you can see where some climbers have climbed the rocks.

Breathtaking. The best views you will get of the City of Billings. Whether you drive or walk, it will be a guaranteed good experience

Somewhat hard to find via Google or GPS. Once there we didnt find much to do. We did enjoy the scenery, however. There were a couple of drunks hanging out in their car drinking and that made us feel a bit cautious.

We love to downhill ride. We ride the rim trails for the same thrill here. We have rode here a few times and never get enough. So many choices for a hard ride or an easy ride. Don't miss this stop with your bikes or a run or a nice walk to watch the sunset.

This wonderful hiking/ biking trail skirts the top of the hills on the airport side of Billings. The trail is not only beautiful, but safe and very well maintained. The only downside is the occasional rattlesnake - so stay alert.

Easy hiking on the trails. Also Bike paths. You can park in the car park there on top and wander around the paths. You'll see some small wildlife, rabbits, butterflys, etc. Great place to take photos of the City of Billings. And a great view, on a clear day you can see for miles. Bring your binocs. Take water and snacks but don't litter! Great for families and kids.

I grew up in Billings, playing on the Rimrocks. The rims encompasses more than one park, with ample parking and natural trials. Commonly used for walking and hiking, mountain biking, dog walkers, photographers (views of the city, valley, and several mountain ranges), and climbers. These rimrock formations appear as cliffs on the north side of the city, upon which the regional airport was built. Home to a variety of wildlife including deer, pronghorn, birds of all kinds, etc.

The address Rimrock Road took us to a mobile home park. Had the Trip Advisor said it was Zimmerman Park, we would have know where to go. Frustrating but we have a sense of humour and a learning experience nonetheless.

weather you are flying into Billings, and landing "on top of the Rims" walking along it's many paths and overlooking our beautiful city, the Rim Rocks are unique to our city. I like to watch the sun rise over the Yellowstone river and the sunset over the Pryor Mountains.
Yellowstone Kelly's Grave is now a national monument and worth the visit. Over looking the Rims you can see 3 mountain ranges, beautiful snow covered valley and breathtaking colors in our fall season.

We parked at Swords park the first time we visited but you will see other areas along the road you can pull in and park. Walking path and rocks to climb on all along the rim. We came several times during our visit to Billings. It's right near the airport so you must do it when flying in or out of Billings!

Amazing view...Montana is such a beautiful state. After enjoying the vista, we drove through some of the neighborhoods at the bottom of the Rimrocks. The residents probably don't appreciate the tourism, but wow!....Some of the homes are awesome!

I walked much of the trails along the rimrocks while geocaching. Got some nice panoramic views of the city.

Great area to hike and enjoy the view of Billings and surrounding areas. There something for everyone, there are handicap trails plus rock climbing areas, the old boot hill, Yellowstone Kelly grave and statue, museum and of airport. You can park your car close to the runway and watch the planes land and take off.

Easy to get to and explore. Took our dog and just played on the rocks and looked at the great view. Must do if in Billings

Rimrocks was vary wonderful for me and my beautiful wife. It gave me a beautiful view of Billings and the Yellowstone valley

This location is right off the highway, as you enyet into billings. It is worth the quick stop. Walking atop the Rimrocks was enjoyable on a nice day. Gave us something to do for an hour.

It's a far climb it's so worth it the view is amazing you can see all of billings. I love reading the signs and learning history.

When you near Billings, the Rimrocks stand out like a massive plateau of rock, sand and trees from the edge of town. There are distant sandstone cliffs well before you get to Billings but the Rimrocks are the king of the prairie. They literally surround Billings and have so much history and information in them that they never bore you.
These rocks are alive and have dropped massive boulders onto homes below, create wonderful waterfalls in a heavy rain and offer up history in the form of ancient sea shells embedded in the sand stone. And there used to be accessible steps up the side of them over by the old Eastern Montana college campus. There are old cemeteries off of Airport road, as you drive into the Heights. You can drive 27th street or Zimmerman Trail, aka 32nd, up the Rimrocks and get closer still. If you drive up Zimmerman Trail, the homes at the top were not always there because we have high school keggars there after school and on the weekends.
When you fly into Billings, the Rimrocks rise up to greet you as the airport is on top of them.
When Yellowstone Park was on fire in the late 80s, I remember parking on top of the Rimrocks and looking at the smoke in the sky and blocking the sun. The forecast was for no clouds but the smoke changed that. And for eclipses, sunsets and fireworks, these are the best location for all.
This is also another way to travel west when you leave Billings. You can take I-90 west and be bored out of your skull until Bozeman or you can drive west up through Lavina and Harlowton and into White Sulphur Springs into Helena for one picturesque drive. And this all starts on top of the Rimrocks.
Even the new LDS Temple on the west end of town is made that much better by the Rimrocks. Lit up at night with its brilliant lights and golden statue of Moroni, the Rimrocks make a great backdrop. But before the temple and before Billings started growing, the Rimrocks were the original crown jewel of the area and they still are.

We hiked the Rimrock trail - we had a panoramic view overlooking the city of Billings but other than that, really nothing special.

After we landed in Billings, we took a drive along Rimrock Road under the rimrocks to the LDS (Mormon) temple and then took off out of Billings. The view of the rocks is great from anywhere along Rimrock Road, especially in the autumn when the maples are turning colors. Makes one wonder how safe it is to live in one of the houses below the rim (of course they aren't too close).
Beautiful views of the houses and the canyon walls up behind them. I expect the view of Billings from above the rim is just as grand.

I had no idea how beautiful this area was until this visit. The airport is on the Rimrock Ridge. WOW! what a view. The view from the top of the ridge at night is breath taking! Everyone I met was delightful. I wish I had been able to spend more time visiting the area!

This attraction is right by the airport along Route/Highway 3. From the airport, Zimmerman Trail is on your left, which you have to pass. You will see a sign that says "Historic Point". Turn left into its parking lot. That is Zimmerman Park which has many trails towards the rimrocks.
Note two facts: (i) that there is no sign along Highway 3 for Zimmerman Park. Historic Point is what you watch for; (ii) Zimmerman Trail is a scenic road, not a trail.
Enjoy the rimrocks!

This place is so beautiful! Make sure you wear sneakers or hiking shoes. You can walkway down in there it's amazing!

We had a few nights in Billings so made a short trip up to the Rimrocks. WOW what a view! You can see the whole valley and the city. Nice place for a walk or a jog.

We accessed the Rim Rocks through two locations. One was through Zimmerman Park and through The Four Dances Natural Area. The rocky cliffs are from Zimmerman Park and the view of the city with Yellowstone river was from Four Dances. We both enjoyed the locations. Enjoyed the hikes and the views!

This is right off the highway and overlooks the nearby town, so don't expect to be in the middle of the wilderness. It's really fun to climb around and explore though and the views are nice. Definitely worth checking out.

The best place.there's bike trails and hiking trails.you're in view of the airplanes landing against the large BIG SKY can stop have lunch and look over the entire city.and the view at night is magical maybe that's why they call Billings the magic city.don't for get to stop at boot hill cemetery before descending back into town headstones read from the 1800's.there's also a museum with many of Montana's firsts.

Love the views from the top of the Rims. Very good place to watch the stars from at night. And nice for s drive that is breath taking.

Love the hike, and the views (Day & night) are incredible! On day the valley was under a cloud you looked down on! A must do-- frequently!

There are some great views of the city from here. The path is paved with some areas where you can go off the path that are not paved. There is very little shade though and we ended up hiking on a day where it was in the 90's so it was very hot.

Nice spot to get an overview of Billings as the view is great. Don't forget to check it out at night. Get out and walk about, don't just sit in your car. Photo-nut, take a tripod for some good opportunities at night.

The walk along the rock rim was very interesting. It gives a great view of the city. It shows the rock formation all around. Wear good support shoes.

This is a great place to overlook the city of Billings. There are trails to walk or bike. There are restrooms.

Billings sits in the Yellowstone river valley with the sandstone plateau to the north known as the Rimrocks (Rims for short). A bike path goes along East from the airport towards the Heights. Black Otter Trail is at the Far East end of the path. You can visit Boot Hill. West of the airport towards Zimmerman Trail are many sections where you can park your car close to the edge.

This is a large area where you can walk and enjoy a breathtaking view of Billings. It's very close to the airport and definitely worth a stop on your way in or out. If you have time pack a lunch to enjoy "up on the hill".

I visited these by actually walking on the trail, but you can see what there is from the road/highway if you want/need/ are short on time. I would definitely run here if I lived in Billings.

The Rims are a natural sandstone ridge that is hard to miss. It almost creates a boarder for the city. There are historic staircases carved into certain areas of the rims, too. Once on top, you have an amazing view of the valley below that goes all the way to the mountains!

Don't follow the directions as on trip advisor- it takes you to the bottom of the Rim and in a housing development. Go on the main upper road to Zimmerman park or up Zimmerman Trail. Not much walking to do but a must do to experience the view

We drove along the rim from the airport and were intrigued enough to go back and walk the section in Swords Park. Hard surfaced and hilly but spectacular views of Billings and the far side of the rims.

Overlooking the whole of the Billings valley and the Yellowstone River winding it's way along one boarder.

We came here to hike around after lunch on a Monday. And it was pretty empty. We saw 2 other hikers. We didn't do the whole thing, but we did a portion and were able to get up to see the city. The first view we saw was of the electric or refinery plant, which was not really a nice view. But looking to the left, there was a really pretty view. This is a good place to exercise and we spent less than 30 minutes. And then we were ready to go, but you could do a much longer one if you wanted to.

It's always great to get to a place that's as picturesque as the photos! I'm not sharing any because there are so many and you should take and enjoy your own. This a nice place to do a bit of hiking (at 60+ a bit is all I do) and to take in the scenery. The only complaints I have aren't about nature's role in the sight, but with the explorers who have left lots of broken glass and other debris. Please take the time to climb the rocks and follow a few paths, but take your trash with you.

Starting at Boot Hill Cemetery, we walked 3+ miles out the trail/road (former road to the airport-now bypassed ) and back. The view down to the whole city of Billings is panoramic and beautiful. A must see viewpoint, even if you don't walk all the way. You can actually walk all the way to the airport, perhaps beyond.

Just a beautiful with flowers and cats in the spring. If up there noon till 1pm lots of flights coming and going, fun to watch!
Lots of families and dogs on leash only .
If time come take a walk !0

The Rimrocks are sandstone cliffs that rise 400 feet above the city of Billings. Lewis and Clark passed them as they floated down the Yellowstone river nearby. There are walking paths and bike paths on the Rimrocks that give a spectacular view of the City, as well as abundant wildlife to include rabbits and gophers and eagles that soar overhead. In the spring, Bitterroot flowers, the state flower of Montana, can be seen growing in puddles that form along the Rimrocks. Yellowstone Kelly's grave is an attraction at the summit of the Cliffs. In the winter, ice flows make excellent for climbing with picks and spike boots. I liked the fact that every so far is a bench to rest on if you need to, and the view of four mountain ranges can be seen on a clear day to include the Snowies, the Pryors, the Beartooth's and the Bull mountain. Absolutely one of my favorite places to stroll with parking in a lot at swords park or along the highway on the western end past the airport.

The rime were the first place my wife took me when we were dating over 26 years ago. We sat and talked while looking at the Bear Tooth and Prior mountains. Spectacular views of Billings and the surrounding topography.

Beautiful to see the city at night from here but please be careful not to get too close to the edge. People have fallen.

The Rimrocks is really the side of a mountain on the edge of town. We drove the road up to see the view of Billings. Would have been much better at night. Many locals go up there to party. It was a quick stop.

When you walk on Zimmerman Trail you can go lower and lower to the edge. Just Remember to return to the hight on the rims from where you begin your hike. If you don't when you turn around you can go past where you started from and get lost. That's what I did. With the aid of my phone's GPS I figured out what I did wrong and I hiked to the top and made it back to my car. Bring water with you. Dehydration makes it harder to navigate.

The disrections even on here are WRONG! Was very hard to find till a local tjat's never been there gave us directions. No signs anywhere in the city to find it. Great view of city, interesting formations. Nice paved path.

The lights of the city below and the stars above you. Near the airport and get to see the big planes coming close to you. Very easy to get back on the main road. lots of parking places along the cliffs.

The Rimrocks are my favorite place to get back to nature in Billings. There are lovely, panoramic views of Billings that are easily accessible. Parking is available and with a short walk you can get a spectacular view. For the more adventurous, trails allow you to get to different levels of the Rims and away from it all.
A word of caution: don't tackle the trails alone. It is not without risk both from falls/injuries and from some unscrupulous folks that appear after dark.

This is free and a must do with great views and trails. You can drive if you don't want to get out of your car and still see the views.

We drove up to the rimrocks thinking it was going to be more of a hiking area than what it was. It does offer a nice view of the city, but it's more like a flat bike path type of trail along the top and just not what we were really expecting. Good spot of you're just looking for a scenic view, but not a good spot if you're looking to hike.

You have to go check out the Rimrocks! It's a beautiful vantage point of the city. There's a trail, but we just had fun wondering around on the slickrock. It would be fun to play around on with a mountain bike too. Zimmerman park is where we went and it was much better than to the east. No bathrooms :(

I parked at Zimmerman Park and walked out to the rocks. Maps and bathroom in the parking lot. Awesome views all around. Lots of spots to explore and wander around. Rattlesnake warning signs out but I didn't cross paths with any. Park closes 30min after sunset. Definitely worth checking out if you're in town.

The Rims are always dramatic and provide the best views of the valley and beyond. Love hiking the trails.

It was a nice day for a drive. We had about an hour and half before an appointment and decided to drive above the Rimrocks and past the airport. TAhere are a number of places to park and get out to admire the city views. iIt is an easy and fun drive.

We mountain bike up on the Rimrocks all the time. Zimmerman Park is a great starting point for planned out trails. They're usually pretty busy when the weather is great, and you have to dog dog walkers and joggers on occasion, but there are plenty of areas to cut loose and go all out! The trails are pretty technical for biking, and challenging! It's about a 2 mile stretch from the parking lot to "the fence" as we call it. Highly recommend to locals and people coming in from out of town who want to bike, hike, or walk something out of the ordinary!

This is a beautiful location to go for a walk or even a long hike. The Trailers are fairly easy and most anyone (not handicap accessible) can walk these trails for as long as they would like. There are lots of areas to explore and view for the more adventurous and athletic. Also, the trails are long and often will have detours. The view of the city here is an amazing and fun experience for anyone. The sandstone is also beautiful and will provide those who love geology a great experience as well.

The Rims as they are called by locals run along the north edge of Billings and separate Billings from Billings Heights. There are trails along the Rims and parks as well. When further west by Zimmerman Park, there can be rattlesnakes so use common sense. Great place to watch thunderstorms from .

Enjoyed the Rimrocks and Billings in general. Need better signage to get to the Rimrocks. Had some good food and enjoyed the Hampton Inn.

If you go to Billings by all means go to rim rocks, hike the trails in the park at the west end and set an watch the sun set. Very relaxing and beautiful

Excellent walk with great vistas.
Paved walkway and/or walk closer to the cliff edge on dirt & rock. Very safe on paved. Easy walk, very little elevation. Enjoy!

We got to see the Rimrocks in a variety of settings. In the 10 days we were out and about in Billings, the sun shone, it rained, it snowed and it froze...the Rimrock were equally stunning in every setting. Billings is always a nice place to visit. There are many things to see and due without being overcrowded including livestock and rodeo events, outdoor theater, zoos, parks and the like. Take a picnic lunch with the kids. Go fishing.

The "rims" are visible from almost every location in billings and driving up on top provides an unparalleled view of the city. Go at night and see the lights for an awesome thrifty evening outdoors with your special someone.

The park provides some great walking trails with stunning views over the city and the surrounding area. There are picnic places and lots of areas for kids to run. But I think that some people use the park for afterhours activities as places were strewn with bottles, trash, etc. just be careful where you walk and I would advise at night or dusk not to go alone if female.

Go at sunset or sunrise. Gorgeous view. Easy walking. Overview of City. Be sure to wear shoes. Possible snakes (we did not see any signs of any, but you can't be too careful where snakes are concerned.)

We didn't actually go to the site because you can view it from many locations throughout the city. That was good enough for us.

This is a pretty cool open space tight on the edge of town. Great for a cliffside walk, a picnic, or for for practicing technical skills on a mountain bike on all the rock formations. The only drawback is that this is a fairly narrow strip between the cliff and the highway that leads into billingsvfeom the North, so you're never far from the road.

The rims used to really be an awesome place to party and hang out with your friends but most of the trails are closed now. There is a nice paved walking, cycling trail and there are definitely good views from up here as well as airplane watching if you're into that. The trail does connect to other longer trails like the one that goes along the river

Great walk or bike ride for as long as you want. Easy, good for any age! Great for dogs, unleashed. Views of the entire city!

"The Rims" as Billings people call them are the sandstone cliffs that surround the "Magic City." There are a lot of them, so there's plenty to offer. If you want a paved trail, start at the airport roundabout and head East. If you're looking for some quiet. Start at the roundabout and head West. For more developed parkland, go to Zimmerman Park. And for even more hiking, try Four Dances recreation ara across the river. All are excellent for mountain bikes, trail running/hiking and dogs.

The beauty here is hard to describe without witnessing it. I have seen and taken pictures. None do it justice.

Very easily traversed with some spots more challenging. Many eye-hooks seen in the rocks where rappelling is apparently a popular activity. Signage warned against rattlers, but temperature was a crisp 34 degrees, so no worry about snakes@! Wear good hiking boots, rocks can be slippery

I enjoy walking on the rims it's peaceful, when the seasons are changing and you look over the city it's beautiful. The path is paved you can ride a bike skateboard rollerblade

This was our first visit to Billings and we immediately went to the rimrocks. You can definitely get a great view of the city, which was nice. I was initially confused as to why we were the only people there, but I later figured it out as the rimrocks are kinda boring. If you want to take a quick glance at the city then great, but don't expect to get much exercise.

Didn't make much of an impression on us.underwhelming experience, after seeingBadlands, mt Rushmore and crazy horse memorial it was a huge disappointment!

Thanks for the memory s loved it too old Smokey .great job this is spostoo be great.Thanks. loved it

Enjoyed just the beautiful fresh air surrounding the beautiful area, I would definitely visit again soon

Couldn't take the hike because the first thing We saw was sights saying be careful as they braking into cars, this went on In every place we went to in billing. Very sad town :(

I am new to Billings and was happy to discover that there is a very nicely maintained walking/biking path along the rimrocks! It is such a beautiful view and a great workout. And I enjoyed learning about the geological history and also the Native American history of this sacred land! Very peaceful.

I love the rims, it's a good place to go and look down on Billings and also think.. when I have a bad day, that's where I go..

The rimrocks are a series of sandstone cliffs that border Billings on the north. If you drive up N. 27th and head west there are number of places to pull over and get a panoramic view of the city, and it is popular with hikers.

This is a "must see" if you come to Billings, Montana. There are hiking paths on top of the Rims. You will see spectacular views of our treed city, as well as a couple of mountain ranges. There is a lot of history around the eastern portion. There is also a walking path. This is a great place for adorning stroll or an afternoon picnic. The airport is located on the top of the"rims" and there is a free museum for everyone to enjoy.

Beautiful views and worth the time to visit while in Billings. This is a wonderful spot for pictures.

The Rims has awesome views of the Yellowstone valley and the City of Billings. Plenty of trails to explore and get away from the stress of a busy day. I definitely recommend Black Otter Trail or Zimmerman Trail as either option has great views and wildlife to watch. This is a must visit stop if your in Billings.

How unusual? A few hundred miles to the south, all the rocks are of an igneous nature. These rocks are sandstone, in Billings, are of a sedimentary nature. Absolutely fabulous rock formations. Billings is at the bottom of these rocks. Great walking, as all of those trails are permanent.

There are many places to park and view the city and the mountains to the SW, night or day. Nighttime it's popular as a lover's lane. In the summer if you walk along the Rims be aware that there are ticks, so check yourself afterwards.

I went with my granddaughter and we were expecting a huge great view of the entire city, which we got... but that was it. But a very cute friendly town

The Rims is what makes Billings, well Billings! Great hiking and running trails, also great for MTB’ s. there are also concrete / asphalt paths on the more populous sections. My recommendation is to find what is termed the Back 9 trails to the west of Indian Wells subdivision off the top. Loads of great trails and one can find real solitude once your back in the complex, and loads of deer, squirrels, and other wild life.

Just 5 minutes out of town, you can escape into an array of single track and technical rides winding through the sandstone and woodsy landscape. The Rimrocks are a treasure.

Check out the Zimmerman trail for great views of the rim and downtown. Watch out for rattlesnakes in the summer though!

It was a bit cloudy on the day we drove this but it was still a beautiful drive. The upper portion of the drive has plenty of places to pull over and take in the views of Billings, the lower road allows you to see the cliffs through the Rimrock Road

We happened upon The Rimrocks by accident. We were driving around the beautiful city of Billings and became lost. Our natural tendency when lost is to head for higher ground. At the top of Rimrock Road, across from the airport is a small parking lot. The nice thing about this well used and maintained walking trail is that you don't have to climb up at all. You already have a breathtaking view of the city and on a clear day, Cody. Starting a visit to Billings here allows you to get the lay of the land.

We found the Rimrocks on Travel Adviser and went to see it. We followed what we thought were the directions, but, never found the place.

Great views and a very nice paved trail. It’s a bit hard to find because there are no signs pointing to it. If you’re using your GPS, put in Swords Rimrock Park. You can park your car in the parking lot and walk the rim.

The Rimrock was o.k. nice view of Billings M.T. but BEWARE i wouldn't go at night.Shady people roam the rocks. i my self wouldn't go with out some protection.

The rimrocks are a great place to go all year round. It is within 15 minutes of anywhere in town. The views are really great. You have to watch for rattle snakes in the spring but after that you don't see many. Dogs are allowed and there are many trails to run or walk. It is fun to go up there for sunset and sunrise. There is quite a bit of wildlife in the area. A lot of people mountain bike on the trails too.

Close to town and absolutely gorgeous. Highly recommend. A little scary if you get too close to the edge but just be cautious. I went with my 13 year old, 11 year old and 9 year old. They all enjoyed it.

Great place to look over the view, and see what god created. Truly amazing . Wonderful view. and great place to walk

We love the beautiful nature to have outlook as we're the hikers.. Unfortunely, we walked down on the trials, we seen a lot of broken glasses all over the trails and the rocks plus, a lot of the vandalism on rocks and everywhere.. We're so saddened to see how it happens to destroying our nature.. Please have the State Park or City Park to clean it up for the safety and making us more happiness and safety! Thanks.

Beautiful view! Did not make it for a sunset view but I would guess it is even more beautiful! Easy to get to and park.

We first parked our cat and we decided to hide. We had some boulders and we had a great view on the city.
This is unusual for us to walk on Rimrocks.
We saw pretty flowers and an insect.
This was my highlight!
This is a must see!

The Rims of Billings are the most noticeable but approachable thing to do in the area. The airport is on top of the rims that look down over the valley where most of Billings lies. You must get out of your car and just walk. There are paved paths that follow a couple miles from east to west. There are restrooms even at the east side. You must see it to realize how special and natural the area is. Further west there are pullouts for you to park and explore. If you are really adventurous you can climb the rims from Rimrock Road area to the top.

Went hiking as repelling on the "Rims"
Such a great experience!! Billings looks gorgeous at night when you walk along the walking path. Hiking is fun and challenging. Excellent place for repelling.

This site has as much or as little adventure as you want and the trails are more clearly with lots of opportunity for deviation. Truly an incredible view looking back into the valley over Billings.

What a view, the smooth rocks and scenery of the valleys, well worth your time!! Enjoy the amazing beauty that GOD has made!

We just happen to come into town following this road, so we stopped for the view. We had one of those blue sky puffy white clouds with lots of shadows kind of day. The dramatic effect of looking down on Billings added to the enjoyment of the city. Lots of people were hiking and just enjoying the view. Really, you can see a lot and never get out of the car if you want.

Can't miss views that are somehow easy to miss. Doesn't seem like you should have such a great panorama opportunity in this kind of terrain, but head to the western side of the state and it makes this seem pretty average

Very beautiful scenery and relaxing time. gorgeous at sunset definately a must at that
time of day
can you say PICTURE

When we visited our daughter in Billings we went to Rimrocks and it was awesome. The drive to get there was great and the views were amazing. You can also do some hiking while you are there. We really enjoyed it and it was easy hiking, nothing too strenuous. There were also people running etc there so it's a great place to see, while you are in Billings.

I am biased. I live right by this natural landscape and love the rough jagged edges with incredible trails and views. They are for everyone and a significant sight in the Yellowstone River Valley!

Cool atmosphere and great views of Billings and the surrounding area. I definitely recommend check out this spot at least once if you’re visiting the area.

An unusual feature of billings and surrounding areas are the sandstone cliffs of the rimrocks. They are not as colorful as some of the Southwestern geological features, but they tell the story of a time when the middle of North America was covered by a vast inland sea. Erosion carves a channel through the sea bed producing cliffs that now bracket the city. There is a nice hiking trail at the top of the northern rimrocks, the slopes of which have been planted with iris that bloom in the early summer. Not worth a trip to Billings just to see them, but if you are in town you can't miss them.

Love to be up on the Rims to enjoy the view of this beautiful city. Be careful and stay on the trails!! It is so beautiful at night I could spend the whole night up there!!!! Especiall the 4th of July you can seethe fireworks for miles, east and west!!!

We really enjoyed our walk around this park starting at Zimmerman Park parking lot. We were impressed with the easy parking and quick access to the cliffs.
There is a rattlesnake warning sign but if you are there when it is warmer like during the day you should be fine. We let our dog off leash after seeing many other dogs romping around. He was in heaven. The soft dirt paths wove around to the cliffs.
The view is excellent and we did not encounter any bikes but there cars with bike racks at parking lot.
Tip:
Bring water! Watch out for clumps of cactus off trail and on cliffs.

The Rimrocks are long sandstone cliffs which encircle and divide Billings, MT. Eighty million years ago an interior sea called the Western Interior Seaway began at the Gulf of Mexico and continued all the way to the Artic passing thru Billings. The rise and fall of this sea created layers of sand which in time were compressed to create hardened sandstone. A mere million years ago a large river cut thru the compacted layers of sandstone and Voila, Rimrocks were created. So much time and so much beauty!

I went to Zimmerman Park. Nice trails to walk along, and nice views. Nice bench not far from the edge to take a break, relax, and enjoy the view of Billings.

Go to the lookout point, wait for dark, and enjoy a marvelous view of the city from the rimrocks. We climbed down a small trail and enjoyed some quality family time just relaxing and enjoying the views of the Montana skies.

The Rimrocks are there... literally. Not particularly interesting, though they do add a great deal of danger when people walk to close to the edge, or pieces of rock fall away over time.
One exception is parking along the top of the rimrocks on a clear evening. All of the lights of Billings are visible and that is beautiful.
Please use caution while visiting!

Great to see the City of Billings from up on the rim of a cliff. About a 3 mile drive with lots of pulloffs to walk to the edge and take a look. If you like to bike or hike the there is a fairly level bike and walking path.

You don't have to drive farther than a couple of miles from the airport to explore the rimrocks. Mixture of climbing opportunities including some relatively easy stuff all the way to vertical rock ledges 150 straight down. Well worth the effort and it's free!

we checked it out due to TA website said to..hazy day so couldn't see sunset or what was beyond Billings. It was interesting that the city is like in a hole so to speak. the Rim is on north side and rises up. You can drive a little ways around it but I wouldn't park there and hike, too isolated. We parked in the larger parking lot and walked a little ways but too hot to do a longer hike. Interesting to see though.

If it is a nice day, I highly recommend a nice casual walk on the rims to the North of Billings. Great vistas!

The Rims are a cool formation, but not highly unusual. It's a good place for a quick stop and there are a couple of picnic tables available (w/ rest room), but not much else. The locals, unfortunately, usually leave the place rather trashy.

The Rimrocks serve as the backdrop to this amazing and growing town. The city shelters under their leading edge and is protected and warmed by their presence.
The view goes on forever and it is good both in the daytime and at night. Zimmerman Trail climbs up through them to the top and it rides through some vegetation changes from the warmer more protected lower slopes to the plains at the top.
At the west end of town you will find the Country Club area, where the cliffs are closer and the houses more dramatic. Moving east, you are looking out over downtown.
On July 4th, this is a great place to view several fireworks celebrations from all over the city at once.

The Rims is a place to walk and climb. Plus take pictures of the different shaped trees and rocks.
People bring their dogs for exercise also.

I like to take my dog up to the rims and hike around, gives good view of the whole city. Very peaceful

If visiting Billings, I highly recommend going to the Rimrocks, especially at night. If you drive along the Airport Road, you will see spectacular views of the city. A must if in Billings.

My family and i were in Billings for the day and visited Zimmerman Park. There are dirt walking trails that pretty much follow the top of the cliffs. Nice view of the city and quiet location, but a minor attraction as compared to national parks.

The Rim Rocks are a great place for viewing and photographing a beautiful Montanan vista and the city of Billings nestled in the valley. Especially at night. There are several public parking areas along the rim between some of the very expensive homes that have been built along the rim.

Really nice park that sits above the city. So glad they didn't allow it to be developed for housing.

If you have time while in Billings, you must walk/hike the trails at Rimrock. The view of Billings is amazing, and the landscape along the trails is magnificent. You should know though, that locals love walking their dogs along the trails. All the dogs seem to be good at returning to their owners when off leash and exploring, but most are off leash. If you aren't a dog fan, just call to the owners to please leash their dogs, and they are more than happy to do so. Though it's a popular dog area, the dog owners are really conscientious about cleaning up after their pets. At the trail heads there are cleanup bags and trash cans for the full bags. Everyone seems to be really good about keeping up the trail cleanliness around here. Unfortunately, you will find lots of old broken glass around some of the more popular "party places" along some of the trails. It's a shame someone can't come along and clean up the old glass. Do try to hike in the morning when the sun is coming up - it's spectacular!

Any time of day is a perfect time of day for a view from the Rimrocks. There are parking areas, walking paths, mountain bike paths. Read and bathe in the sun. At night the city is beautiful and grows more and more each year. Early morning runs along the bike path are refreshing. Clean air and stillness. There are two areas to park and one area has bathrooms.
Be careful because it is a cliff and there are large cracks in the sandstone.

Great view as you go down the road or after you get to the top. Nice to just stop and take a look at the city and the rest of the area surrounding Billings.

There are plentiful parking areas to take in the sights of Billings and the Pryor and Beartooth Mtns

The paths begin as an unmarked dirt track near the restrooms at Zimmerman Park (no maps available or on display). The trail splits almost immediately and continues haphazardly, over and around rock & root, with no trail markers, not much shade. Sandy paths sometimes just dead-end, but it’s not too hard to keep progressing west along the rim’s edge. Great views of the city, but don’t go at night unless you know the area well.

We searched for Rim Rocks during our visit, but only Rim-rock mall and Road were shown on map and GPS. This place is known as Zimmerman Park. It is a beautiful place located on the top of the rocks on State Highway 3. It has a few trails leading to the Rim of the Rocks. We get a very good view of the City of Billings. But.... beware of Rattle Snakes. The grass on the sides of the unpaved trails are about 9" to a foot tall and try to walk in the center carefully watching for snakes..

The views overlooking Billings are great !!! Several mountain ranges can be seen in the distance. Head to the west and take a trip down Zimmerman Trail.

If you're a mountain biker, stay away from the Rimrocks. They are undiscovered and stunningly beautiful, if you dare look as you ride along the edge. We're trying to keep them a secret!

If you enjoy day hikes with the greatest risk being rattle snakes and broken glass bottles - this is for you! Be careful at the edges especially if hiking with animals who are thrill seekers. Some pets have died by falling off the cliff. Beautiful scenery, family friendly.

The landscape in Billings is beautiful. Rimrocks area is a very nice area to drive through. It's easy to navigate and convenient to services and eventually downtown. Great place for picture taking.

We spent way too much time trying to find the sites that were on the poorly designed map in the Billings guidebook. We finally found Yellowstone Kelly's grave and Boothill cemetery. The rimrocks are impressive when viewed from inside Billings.

I grew up in Billings, and the Rims were a great place to hike, or picnic. They also helped me navigate around town as I always knew where approximate North was.

Billings is surround by these rim rocks that overlook the city. You can also see the Yellowstone river from here. Nice place to hike but not very hard. When it's hot take water as there is none there.

Beautiful view of the city down below. Fall colors really pop in October. I wanted to go here as I read other recommendations. I didn't know that I would stumble upon it on my way to town from the airport. I noticed many cars parked on the side of the road, so I decided to stop on my way in. Breathtaking views.

This is worth seeing, and if you have a little time with sturdy shoes on your feet, its great to walk along.

Went early trying to avoid the heat of the day. I parked by the airport and proceeded to walk the pathway. Beautiful scenery above Billings, and the people I bumped into were very friendly. A gentleman told me that there was no where I could do any off path hiking, however I did manage to find a path or 2 that went into the hill and landed up taking me to the yellow stone marker.

Level trails along cliffs overlooking Billings with snow capped mountains in the distance. Keep small kids close. Rattlesnake warning signs too.

We had a hard time finding the trailhead. Once we did, it was an enjoyable hike with lots to see. Be sure to bring water.

When we put Rimrocks in Google map, it put us in a nice neighborhood at a vacant lot with a great view, The real views were back on the main road. Great views of Billings and plenty of parking spots along the road. It is amust do in Billings and it can take 15 minutes or as long as you want.

Great trails on top of rims and dog friendly on a leash. Great views of Sacrifice Cliff and city of Billings. Especially in fall when the leaves turn.

The rims in Billings give you a great view of the Yellowstone valley and the Beartooth Mountains. There are trails that you can take and enjoy the view.

The Rimrocks are amazing as they rise over Billings. These tall mountains surround many of the nice residential areas by Zimmerman Park, and I drove up the Rimrocks. You can see the Rims from Downtown Billings, too. I was unable to find the walking trail until sundown, which was why I unfortunately did not hike. It is very difficult to get G.P.S./cellular telephone reception, but the airport is a good landmark to use. The views of Downtown Billings and its surroundings are excellent!

If you want to have a panoramic view of the city, this is the place to go.In fall you get a bonus: the nice colors of the trees down bellow!

We got in so late driving in from Cheyenne, Wy that we did this one before heading to Yellowstone. You should have seen my wife's face when she saw the rattlesnake sign. Great view of the valley, just wish we had more time to walk around.

I found the rims to be a lovely view of the Billings area and the hikes available cover a range from easy to moderate.

Take a short hike to see all the beauty of Billings. The fall colors were pretty. Definitely a place to visit.

The Rims define Billings -- fabulous views over the largest city in Montana with the wide plains and tall peaks of the Beartooth Mountain Range in the background. Don't visit Billings without parking at the trailhead one mile east of the airport and walking along the trail that skirts the top of the Rims. If you can, go one mile farther to the east to see the Yellowstone Kelly Interpretive Site that is scheduled to open in June 2017.

Views of the city, views of the valley, views of the rimrocks and on a clear day you can see four different mountain ranges. Walk or bike and smell the pines, marvel at the aircraft coming in to land. A truly wonderful place with paved trails and Yellowstone Kelly's monument.

The rims are the icon of Billings. We love to walk or run along them in the morning, but the view of the city lit up at night is wonderful. We usually park close to the airport and walk east on the trail.
The sandstone formations are good subjects for photography.

You can' come to Billings and not see the Rimrocks. They stand alone as the number one landscape feature in Billings. Be sure to travel to the top up by the airport and see the great views of the city and the Yellowstone valley. Fun hiking, running and biking trails. Pretty much the go to spot to end a romantic date.

awesome, easy access mtn bike stop where you can check out the view of all Billings! Head up zimmerman trail or take the airport road up to the park just past the airport. you can get a great ride in - even if you have less than an hour. truly one of the best things about Billings.

On a trip to Billings we went to The Rimrocks for an early morning run. There are several places to park near the airport, just look for signs or parked cars. There is a 2.5 mile paved path that runs along the Rimrocks from the airport south. It is slightly hilly.

Easy access to trail right off of the airport road. Beautiful bluffs, nice city views. There were more hikers here than zimmerman, just over the pass.

Free and easy to access from many locations. If you are looking for a fun challenge, find the steps cut into the cliffs!

I forgot that there are lots of lizards up in the area to chase after just use the rock staircase to get below

When visiting Billings, MT be sure and drive to the top of the rims, with the airport as a directional marker. One can drive to the east of the airport and enjoy the view of the city while walking on a paved trail. West of the airport is a pull off area to sit in a car and enjoy the view. One can see for approx. 20 miles. It one of the most unique features of
this beautiful city.

The road near the airport has easy parking and great views over the city and valley below. Pity there was so much rubbish lying around despite the bins provided.

This is a must see. The view from the top is amazing, all of Billings lies at your feet. Try for sunset,,,you won't be disappointed.

Go to Zimmerman Park and hike along the rim rocks just before sunset. Enjoy a good view of Billings and view a beautiful sunset to the west. Spent about 30 minutes there.

Just a nice spot to stop and see the views of the city . Can see the mountains in the distance. Can stop and just park, or get out and walk. Can also turn around and watch the planes take off and land at the airport.

This cliff sits high above Billings and has miles of trails offering dramatic views of the city and surrounding areas. You can drive up to the Rimrocks along Airport Road and there are a number of free parking lots. At one there are rest rooms. Do not miss if visiting Billings.

We took a long walk on this easy to follow trail, high above the city. A few parts were a little bit strenuous but mostly it was pretty easy. It was pretty popular with the locals- lots of people running and walking dogs.

The Rimrocks, also known as the Rims, are geological rimrock sandstone formations that outcrop in sections of Billings, Montana. They are a unique and fascinating and spectacularly visible attraction that gives the area its Old West landscape. Eighty years ago, the Billings metro area was the shore of a great inland sea that stretched from the present-day Gulf of Mexico to the Arctic North. Over time, the sea rose and fell, leaving behind a deep layer of sediment and sand. Over millions of years, the sand was compressed into the sandstone the rims are made of. It is known as Eagle Sandstone. Around a million years ago, a much larger river than the present-day Yellowstone River began cutting a canyon into the valley floor of Eagle Sandstone, creating what today is known as the Rimrocks. Today, the river continues to cut into the valley floor. Rims are visible on the North and East sections of the city. The tallest single section of the Rimrocks starts at the eastern border of the downtown area with a cliff known as Sacrifice Cliff and extends to the South for about 18 miles. This area is known as Coburn Hill. The Billings visitors center can offer detailed information on the Rims.

This is conveniently located just past the airport, so super easy to get to. The views are great and there is enough to explore to occupy yourself (or a family) for an hour or more.

The paved part of the trail along the Rimrocks is east of the airport, starting at the first parking area on the right going east from the airport; no shade, and can get very windy. There are some benches along the way, more parking & restrooms at Swords Park. Going west from the airport, Zimmerman Park (just past the roundabout) has multiple, criss-crossing, rocky dirt paths along the Rimrocks. Great views on both sides.

You haven't really seen Billings until you walk the Rimrock Trail! It is amazing from below .. but up on the trail which is right on the ledge, the view of Billings is truly amazing! Gotta Go!

Beautiful! It was an easy hike that anybody could enjoy, but so gorgeous that it wasn’t boring for avid hikers. The scenery is breathtaking and the trail was easy, if you watch where you’ll going you’ll be fine. It’s relaxing if you want to hike alone, but it’s exciting if you want it to be! Kids, teens, and adults will all enjoy this hike. Couldn’t of been more beautiful.

You get a decent view of Billings from on top of the Rimrocks, but, of course, you get a better view driving along Rimrock Road below. The top is a decent walking trail. Better off driving along Rimrock Road and parking in the Montana State University parking lot for views of the cliffs.

Big sky country! Being on top of the rims and looking down during the day gives you a sense of direction and opportunity to understand the layout of Billings Montana.
And then at night, it's spectacular with all the lights! Romantic-and known for its "parking".
There are areas that you can do walking, hiking, and riding bicycles. There are a few areas to have a picnic and - other areas are a little bit dangerous and precarious to stand at the edge of the rock, but still quite spectacular.
So feel free to take family members, children, teens ~ but just be careful with elderly people as some of the area is gravel. Even sitting from your car, you can see the view.

What a sight to behold. Well worth the trip to the top to get an overview of the big sky country. Nice!

The Rimrocks were very easy to get to. Plenty of parking by trails. Absolutely beautiful views!! The hiking trails are very easy to walk. A must see in Billings!

Here you can go to see Billings form above, also an nice place for sunset. Just a short drive from town.

If you are visiting Billings for the first time the rimrocks are fun for an afternoon drive or hike. Great views and good to get out in the fresh air!

I was raised climbing these rimrocks some sixty five years and they will always be a thing of beauty in my eyes. The airport has grown as well of what is there. The rimrocks are as the beautiful city. The majesty of the rimrocks that surround Billings will always be one of the most beautiful sights in the state. There are many places to overlook the city and the beauty of the rimrocks. Just revel in the beauty. The rimrocks are a definite must see and the airport is easy to get in and out of. No hassle here and the whole area is something to see.

Billings has done quite a bit of work to the Rims to make it more accessible, walking trail friendly. It's a good workout!

A great place to sit and relax, wind down after a long day. Billings lights are beautiful at night. A great skyline for a small city! Fun with a group of friends or just a romantic evening. Billings is a beautiful little city!

We stopped by the Rimrocks in Zimmerman Park during a long drive in order to stretch and get some exercise. It was a good choice. The views from on top of the rocks are very nice, and although we only went for a short walk, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
There is a parking lot at Zimmerman Park with plenty of parking. It's a short walk from the lot to the rocks and trails.

I and my wife have adored the beautiful rims that connect to the city of Billings. Many time we have ventured under them, climbing and hiking and watching the younger set maneuver them on their specially equipped bikes. Too watching the picnickers on top of the rims and those just watching the airplanes, private and commercial land and take off. Some Days when it was announced the the Air Forces had the B1and 2s on a practice mission, I'd be there for them too!

That’s we called it when I was younger...we used to able to drive down pretty close to the edge and hang out with friends and chase the little lizards around it’s different now but still has the views of the city and established walking and biking trails easy to find and navigate

As others said, this is awesome at sunset. The sun hitting the rocks, the horizon and city is breathtaking.
I followed the trip advisor map but that leads to a closed road (Zimmerman road and rim rock road). It was fine for me as I ran up the closed road but would probably turn most back as it’s about a mile up hill (450 foot gain)
I saw cars at the top of the rocks (Zimmerman park). I suggest driving there and then doing the trails.

Nice place just to walk or jog...look over the city and remember old times and new ones coming up...in my younger days it was Rimrock Beach...we could park all over...as time has gone on things have changed

We enjoyed the view...but it was hot and didn't walk too far. Offers a nice view of the area and some nice walking paths. We only walked a little way, but it would be nice to go further.

We were only in Billings for a night and we came here TWICE! This is not a good place if you have small children. There is no protective railing and the drop-offs are straight down. It would be a deadly fall. Nonetheless, it was fantastic. We came here in the early evening and again at night to watch a storm come in from the southwest. It was incredible. If you're in Billings and there is inclement weather, this is the place to be!

From atop the rimrocks I had a balcony seat with incredible views overlooking Billings and beyond. I accessed the area via Rimtop Drive (off Airport Rd) which took me to a small parking area - 5 minutes drive from downtown Billings. This is know as Swords Rimrock Park. Here, there is a small, covered picnic area and restrooms. Several trails (both asphalt and dirt) are easily accessed from here and run along the top of the rimrocks. There is some informative signage as well. I was able to walk onto the rocks, but didn’t venture too close to the edge. Explore at your own risk. I’d stick to the actual trails. Although I wasn’t there for sunrise or sunset I’d imagine it would be a beautiful time to visit.

We stopped here as a result of a local suggesting we go check it out. A parking lot is the main stopping point where you can get out & walk all the way up to the edge ( if you dare ) definitely could fall off if someone was careless. ( Keep little ones safe! ) As other reviewers have mentions, you are able to go along trails that bring to down to various levels. The view overlooks Billings, which is somewhat industrial looking but still quite a nice view. You are able to take a paved road ( in rough shape ) up to another gravel parking lot which also has a pretty nice view. Worth a stop if you're in Billings & looking for something to do other than go to the mall!

I love coming up here and taking in the city. Great views, and a nice place to sit and think and relax

A perfect place to take an early morning walk with our dog! The parking lots could use some clean up of trash. We loved the big sky views!

Amazing view of the city and surroundings, just gorgeous, close to the Hotel and very close to the airport, dont miss it.

There is a nice drive and plenty of places to walk. Continue along the drive, up the curvy cliff and there is a beautiful park. Pets are welcome. There is a restroom.

When you arrive in Billings, you can't help but notice the Rimrocks overlooking the town. They look pretty cool and maybe raise your expectations.
The view from the Rimrocks is okay. Maybe I went at the wrong time. It was wintertime but it was warm (per the locals) during my trip without snow and it's not a big city so it's not fair to compare to a major city but all told, worth a trip if you're visiting Billings.

This was super cool! It was great to watch the sunset from the rimrocks! It was a short hike to the top but worth it! It was gorgeous. Definitely worth the stop!

Did 10 K walk which started at the Boot Hill Cemetery and climbed up the hills to the airport. The walk offered excellent views of the city and the Yellowstone River. Visited the new site for Yellowstone Kelly's grave.

Wonderful well marked trails for a short outing. Views are spectacular. Weekday are best. Dog friendly, but I still recommend staying on leash. Parking is generous.

The view is truly amazing. You can see for miles. We were very glad that we were finally able to get here. Well worth the trip.

Highly recommend a drive across the top of the rims. Day or night, it's the best place to look over Billings. The trails for hiking and for bicycling are great. A must see if your staying or passing through Billings, MT.

We live in Billings and one of our favorite places to visit is the Rims. We walk them, bike them, picnic on them, and photograph them. We never get tired of the beautiful Rims, the amazing view, the fantastic sunrises and sunsets. They are one of Billings' finest features.

I have hiked and walked the rims for over 30 years. They are constantly evolving. Can easily spend an afternoon up there enjoying the sun wind and big open skies. There is a bike path for bicycles. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

The rims are a nice place to visit. At the top of the rims you can over look the city. They have places you can sit, maybe have a bite to eat, or just rest.

I have been here a few times and other then the view of the city below there is not a whole lot to do. Few places to walk and with the airport being right there its a bit busy and noisy for me to really get excited about going back.

This is a wonderful bike trail for all levels of bikers. Our family of 6 (two kids) had a great ride on Wednesday. The views are breathtaking; the historical markers were educational and very interesting. Highly recommend this adventure on a nice day while in Billings with your bikes!

While visiting for work and needing to get outside for a bit- It was suggested to head to this easy walking path near the airport - It was easy to find, ample parking and then you just walk along the paved pathway - lovely rocks to be found and amazing views of Billings from all angels.

The road is nice but the views are along the asphalt walkway. There are lots of walkers so it is pretty safe in the late afternoon and if you get lucky there will be a great sunset.

Overlooking Billings and miles of the northern plains surrounding east/central Montana is this natural phenomenon of a cliff and plateau, which stretches for miles far above the plains and Billings. The local regional airport is on Rimrock Road, as the view dominates the entire local landscape. The road from the airport is Broadway, as it passes through downtown Billings, and out to I-90.
There are opportunities for free parking and hikes along the cliff separating the plains from the plateau.

A beautiful overlook of the city. Plenty of places to park and the views are breath taking. We went several times over the course of our stay

Great walking trails if dogs picked up after and a scenic view of several mountain ranges: Beartooths, Pryors and Little Wolfs I think.

When I read other reviews, I was a little frustrated by the lack of information about where to actually go or how to get to the Rimrocks. There may be more than one way/place, but we ended up mapping to Zimmerman Park and that worked out perfectly.
This is an absolute must do when in billings. Literally if you have an hour layover I'd even go. It's very close to the airport.
Zimmerman park has great little trails and you could spend 10 minutes checking out the view or hours hiking around if you had the time. We went up around sunset time and it was just gorgeous.
Trails were not paved but suitable for people of most abilities / fitness levels. Saw plenty of kids and dogs; both are welcome and seemed to be having a good time.

An easy drive with nice views.... day or night.... you can do it going to or from the airport. If you like to sight see... this is an easy trip

Beautiful views from the rimrocks if you can find the them. The address simply states Rimrock road. From town, you take Rimrock Road to Zimmerman Trail, you will drive north on a beautiful, but steep road to Hwy 3. Then turn right and in a short bit you will find a place to pull off, but be carefull, there are a lot of pot holes and getting back onto Hwy 3 is tough. Or you can just head straight west of the airport and you will see the pull off. Traffic is busy on Hwy 3.
We took photos and sat for a while enjoying the views.

Its good. We go to this rimrock parking spot and eat our food then walk around the rims and clim the rocks.

Beautiful place to visit, take a run along, etc. Be sure to drive around on the roads and see both above and below the rim rocks.

We could not find the spot listed on trip advisor or anywhere else. The address is a neighborhoid. They look they they would make some beautiful views however.

A lovely view of the city. We parked off the side of the road by the airport. Do NOT use the directions given by TripAdvisor - you end up in a private sub. 😳Watch out for glass and keep small kids close. Saw some cool animals and sights.

Drive and view from rim rocks is amazing and view of city awesome. Decent is even more incredible to see

This is kind of neat to see, but not an "EVENT" per se...Maybe a 1 time thing to see but thats all...I hear people go hiking up there but I would be worried about snakes.

Yes - The formations and views are stunning, but having to wade through literally thousands of broken bottles, and the profane graffiti really detract from the overall experience. Thanks Billingsites!
Also, be on the lookout for snakes, we nearly stepped on one.

300 ft drop above Billings Mt I have been over the whole rim rocks from time I was 7 till 9 years old great place to visit.

I lived in Billings for a number of years and I remember the Rimrocks with great fondness. Nothing is quite as romantic as going up there at night to see the lights of Billings appear as the sun sets. The view of the mountains is stunning. A must see if you are planning a trip to Billings!!

An amazing site to see. Beautiful overlooks and easily accessible for all ages. Keep children close.

We drove to top of the Rimrocks and learned about there formation 200 million years ago as this was a large ocean area. It's a very interesting place to make several stops and view the valley below and watch the Yellowstone River.

My family visited the Rimrocks on our first night in Billings. We went around sunset and the views were spectacular!

Visited the Rimrocks early on a Saturday morning. The weather was beautiful. Clear skies and warm sun allowing for terrific view of the city below in the middle of February! Not bad! The valley below was spectacular being able to look in all directions!

The view from the Rimrocks changes as the seasons do. Nice place to walk for exercise or take a slow stroll.

I took a walk on the rimrocks and it gave me a beautiful view of Billings and the Yellowstone valley. Nice path for walking. Good parking available.

This is a very pretty view and is really something at night with all the lights. Other than the view there isn't anything special .

Nice place to take a walk along the cliffs just outside of Billings. Easy to see the different levels of rock and the general geology. Also, different places to see the cliffs and some had a great view of the city.

This would have been a rive star except environment of fire smoke from west made tough. Easy drive, short

I went and got take out food and sat up on the Rims and ate my lunch. Even though it is a bit smokey due to local forest fires the view is still spectacular. It is a nice view of the City of Billings.
It is right by the airport, you pass it on your way out.

The scenery is Unbelievable. Rock formations the colors and shapes just everyone was in Awe!!!! Great to take photos.

The rims in Billings our distinctive and a great place to hike where the whole valley is on view. Park on top and Zimmermon park and go either direction. Great hike right in town.

Great place to see the city. Well taken care pathway for walking, running, or whatever you like. I make it a point to stop every time I’m in town. Summer is best for climbing around on rocks and taking in the landscape and sun.

Zimmerman park has great trails for walking or biking. We are lucky to have such interesting terrain right in town. On a clear day, the views are spectacular . You can see the Beartooth, Big Horn, Pryor and sometime even the Crazy Mountains. There are several different routes you can take down the front of the rims as well as the trails on top. This means you run into very few people on the trails even if the parking lot is full. Be sure not to leave valuables in your car and watch out for rattlesnakes in hot weather.

There really isn't much here. It's a nice spot, and we shot some pics here, but there isn't much scenery or anything.

Beautiful views of Billings, MT. Great place to explore. You need to have some mobility as to get the best views you will need to climb down a bit. Not difficult, but if you have difficulty walking would be achallenge.

The Rimrock are one of the big advantages of living in Billings Mt.
They are a great recreational resource for relaxation and family activities. I like to park at the top just to view the valley below. It has lots of appeal any time of the year!!

Spectaluar Views....Well worth seeing! You won't be sorry you did. Just take a drive .....see the sights!

We visited this area twice, once just my husband and I and then we with a party of 6. Beautiful views. Highly recommend

A great view of the city and free. The Rims are geological rimrock sandstone formations that outcrop in sections of Billings, Montana.

My friend took us here when we visited Billings, MT. Awesome views of Billings. Beautiful senic view.

Few cities enjoy a feature like our Rims. The views from the top are breathtaking, day or night and hikes along the Rims are fantastic! From below, the Rims themselves are a spectacle, when the sunlight moves over the sandstone boulders and changes their shapes and colors. Art that is alive, right in our back yards!

This is a nice area to stretch and follow a few hiking and bike trails. Good Fun for all ages. Few picnic areas to enjoy and a beautiful view of Billings, MT town.

Absolutely stunning views looking down over Billings. Hiked the trail from the parking lot to the “Yellowstone” Kelly Interpretive Site. There were plenty of bikers, hikers, people walking their dogs, joggers out that morning. The trail is perfect for all types of recreation activity. There are restroom facilities, picnic areas and information placards along the trail. We hiked the full 2 miles easily.

Exactly as described and fascinating to visit at different times of the day. When viewed from the downtown area, it is almost eerie.

Whirlwind trip to Montana and hell bent on squeezing every minute and experience into it! Had about 30 minutes to kill before heading back to the airport so I checked Trip Advisor for something to do close by. Decided to check out the Rimrocks. Excellent choice since it's on the road leading to the airport! Great view of the city. Pit toilet and picnic tables. No barriers on the cliffs so be cautious with pets and children!
Nice walking trial too.
To those reviews that had trouble finding it or looking for an exact address : Google Maps is a wonderful tool- Use it! I typed in "Rimrocks" and it took me directly to it!

The rimrocks are a great place to visit. The mountainous area and visions of the area from yesteryear were amazing. Get your camera out and take lots of pictures because this is a special place.

I would not go out of my way to see the rimrocks when in Montana. There are so many memorable rock formations and such incredible scenic views in Montana, I think they just wanted an attraction.

Awesome classic Americana "Make Out" spot overlooking the city. Quite spectacular and fun for first time in-towners. This area is rather popular and is near the airport for reference. Be careful driving up the windy road if you're coming up off Shiloh.
Great vistas
Beautiful vistas and great hiking. Dog friendly but be careful along the rims. Our family lives by the rims and we have made the hike up to the top many times.
