Make this a stop on your vacation

By Tanya A |

This was a great experience! Loved hearing the story on how this was discovered and it’s still family operated. It’s amazing being this far underground and seeing all the wonderful formations. Our guide Chance was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions.

Rates up there with Mammoth Cave

By Amy F |

Really enjoyed this tour. The young man that was our guide was very knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend the tour.

Must see in the Townsend area

By SJscrapbooker |

Visited the caverns with the experienced tour guide, Brandi, who was excellent! She made it fun for all ages- small children up to elderly grandparents. She made each person feel like she was talking to them.. The caverns are very interesting and unique. The price was reasonable for a 90 minute tour. I would highly recommend this for anyone! It does require going up and down a total of 400 steps and a few areas are quite low so you have to duck. My husband is 6’4” and had no problem navigating the pathways, but you do have to pay attention to what you are doing.

Awesome Experience

By Chris H |

Caleb was our tour guide and he was great! It wasn’t our first time there, but it was my in-laws first. Caleb was so knowledgeable and fun! He was great with my kids too! Made the experience very nice…. Thank you!

Beautiful and 100% Worth the price

By Maddie |

Absolutely beautiful tour. At first we thought it was a little expensive but as we took the tour and learned how it was family owned and how the family takes care and pride in this place so we can enjoy it we changed our minds to thinking how that was a great price and so worth it.
Our tour guide Christopher was very knowledgeable and answered any questions we had. We also met another tour guide named Travis and he was the funniest.
This is not for anyone who is claustrophobic or physically challenged. The stairs are very steep and it can get small sometimes. I struggled coming back up and I’m in pretty good shape so I was surprised. Make sure you wear athletic or hiking shoes

Amazing

By Sandy D |

This was worth every min. My hung kids enjoyed it. Brandi gave us an excellent tour. We would come back again.

Cavern

By Jenna M |

Cool experience, definitely worth checking out. Very informative. The tour was the perfect length of time, approx 1 hour.

Tuckaleechee Family Friendly

By Bridget P |

Lizzy was funny, kind, and knowledgeable. We enjoyed the caverns so much! It does get dark, but my kids loved every moment. Thanks for a wonderful experience!

Incredible

By JDTWIfamof5 |

Our group was really large and the cave was really crowded. It’s pretty incredible, though, how LARGE this cave is! And our tour guide said that there is another room that is twice the size of the big room, but they have no plans to expand the tour to it. It just blows my mind how these caves are discovered. We were able to just walk in and get a tour. We did not have to book ahead of time. I recommend this one.

Pleasantly Suprised

By DutchLace |

Haven't done a cave/cavern in years, and this little gem caught our eye. So glad we found this place. 1.5 hr guided tour inside the cavern. Our guide was great. She has been doing this for a few years. Small little gift shop. Family owned operation into their third and fourth generation. No food service here, so plan accordingly.

Great adventure underground

By Chris W |

Our group of four enjoyed this adventure underground. There are a bunch of steps, you just need to take your time while navigating them. Our tour guide did a great job pointing out the features and telling the story about the cavern. We would return again.

Great short adventure

By Elaine J |

It’s a great tour of the caves. Our guide, Melanie, was knowledgeable and very friendly. She definitely was passionate about her job. The tour was well organized and informative. There are lots of steps and narrow passages. We were advised of these prior to the tour. The beach area and the quiet rooms are quite spectacular and the waterfall is an extra natural beauty! Great history and formations.

Cool opportunity to beat the heat!

By strengthj77 |

This was a great excursion from the heat of the day. The tour was about an hour and a half. There was plenty of time on the tour to take in all the things to see in the cave. The group was not so large you could not hear the guide. There are quite a few steps, but it was not bad since they were spaced out over several different areas of the tour. The tour itself was very informative and well done. Lots of things to see and learn about. I’m glad that I got talked into going by my kids.

Awesome when it isn't too crowded.

By Shawn D |

This cavern is quite impressive. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. However, it is wise to visit on "off peak" times. We visited today (week after Easter). The crowd was huge. Tour guide said over 1000 people a day were coming and you could tell. There were several times during the tour that we waited for as long as 20 minutes for another tour group to vacate an area that our group was headed for. I've been during "off season" and the tour takes 1/2 the time.

Great Caverns and great place for families

By WickedWalt |

The Caverns though a little pricey are worth a visit. They also give a Military discount. The caverns are pretty spectacular and the 1 & 1/2 hour presentation from our guide was educational and interesting. She did a great job keeping the kids and adults interested and engaged. Although the temperature is 58 in the caverns, by the time we were through I was sweating pretty strongly. You do a lot of walking : 1.5 miles and there are many steps along the route. By end we had a pretty good workout, although there are several pauses. I certainly did not need a raincoat but a simple vest would suffice. Well worth the visit.

Great tour! I love caves and this one is spectacular!

By Cory S |

Chance is a very knowledgeable and personable guide. Shares his love for the cave and was enthusiastic about its features and history. Great lighting and route. Impressive formations with running water throughout. One of the best cave tours in the US! Definitely not to be missed.

Must See in East TN!

By Traci M |

This is one of the best attractions in East TN! The caverns are much larger than others. The tour guide was very engaging and entertaining. It's the perfect place for the entire family (unless you have physical limitations as there are many stairs & walking involved). It's also a nice attraction if you are wanting to escape the weather elements outside.

good but not for all

By denise f |

The caverns themselves were amazing. However the young guide cou;d stand a lot of improving. His guided spiel about the caverns was way too loud and it seemed it garbled the clarity of what he was saying . I heard about 25% of what he said . Also, it should be emphasized there are a lot of steps going up and it is difficult for older people and small children to maneuver.

Tuckaleechee caverns

By Stephanie C |

The caverns were easy to find. The cave was beautiful. The guide was funny and knowledgeable. Definitely money and time well spent.

Sunday Funday

By Gage113 |

Had a new family member who had never been to the caverns before.
We had adult teens and children.
(13/6/and child in a carrier.)
I did see one lady brought an umbrella stroller for her child.
Lots of stairs, but also very nice. Wasn’t as cold as I thought it would be.
Our tour guide Ben, did an excellent job.
(don’t forget to tip him at the end of your tour.)
We’ll go again in a few years.
Had a great family day.
Don’t take my word for it try it for yourself.

Fun & educational tour

By Tracy B |

We took tour as a way to escape the rain. Abby was our guide. She was extremely knowledgeable and took her time. We learned so many new facts about caves and formations. Definitely recommend for families and couples. Awesome that is still privately and family owned. Also, loved that they allowed you to take photos to really capture the experience.

Cave tour, cave rock formations and water fall

By Jeremy Clark |

Cave tour. Excellent tour by amazing guide. The cave was amazing. Lots of rich history, about the property, founding, and its development through the years. Modest level of stairs and trials. Waterfall and rock formations are amazing!!

Amazing experience of a lifetime

By Wendy D |

This was one of the places we wanted to explore on our vacation and was able to have this amazing and memorable exerience together. We took lots of pictures and had a great tour guide named, Isaac. He was kind, patient, funny and he had a wealth of information about the cavern that was very interesting. You have to explore for yourself!

Excellent Caverns worth a visit

By Warren P |

Excellent caverns

This was a very interesting caverns with running river and waterfall under ground. Certainly worth a visit. Having visited another cavern in the area which was also enjoyable, this one was much more extensive - wider cavern.
Added bonus - seismic station.

The caves are some of the prettiest in the area.

By Amber S |

We’ve done all of the cave tours in the area and these caves where some of our favorites, but the tour guide definitely didn’t seem to enjoy her job, although she was knowledgeable. The guides at all of the other caves in the area are definitely more enthusiastic. The groups here are also much larger than any of the other caverns that we’ve visited. The gentleman at the ticket counter was very friendly. The caves overall were gorgeous and well worth visiting. There’s a little waterfall at the end of the tour and most of the tour follows along an underground stream which is a nice treat.

Fifth trip was a disappointment

By StephanieLige B |

We come every year. This year it was more rushed, larger groups and guide didn’t take the time to tell you a lot of info on the caverns. He told the basics. Was disappointed the price went up and the service and time decreased.

Wonderful place to visit!

By Jocelyn V |

Such an amazing place to visit! The tour was well guided and exciting! The formations were amazing to see in person. Would go again!

Great experience and Brandy is the best guide

By Breezey |

Brandy was our guide and she was amazing and super punny. She made us laugh and was very knowledgeable. We had a great time. The caverns were beautiful and awesome.

Great stop when in Townsend, TN

By Renee J |

Well worth the trip. Oir guide, Ben, was so knowledgeable, funny, and interactive. My kids loved (8 & 17) loved it! Will definitely go again.

Fun

By Lona R Richerson |

We saw the sign for it and wanted to do the tour. We had fun. It’s a bunch of climbing. It’s beautiful. Great tour. Another of God’s wonders. 😊

Great family-oriented tour that exceeded expectations

By lauraaA4986XV |

Randi was an excellent guide, and I enjoyed talking to the grandson of the founder. The tour and the caverns exceeded all of my expectations. The great room was amazing!!! I highly recommend this experience when you are visiting the Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge-Sevierville area. It's particularly a great (58-degree) activity for the whole family when it's hot out or when it's raining. Our teens enjoyed the experience!

Wonderful cave experience

By tlefeuvre |

This was one of the highlights of our trip to the Smokies. I highly recommend this to anyone. it is a bit of a hike coming up the stairs on the return but well worth it. Our guide made the whole experience an absolute delight.

Mikes retirement trip

By Nancy H |

Brandy was an excellent guide, very knowledgeable and the tour was one of our best experiences, this tour was great! Especially the great room with total darkness! Can’t wait to have more family go back soon!

So breathtaking

By EriOw |

It is absolutely stunning. Even if you have been to other caverns, these really stand out and should not be missed. So much beauty and water. Need to be in decent shape to walk the stairs, but not really difficult. Our tour guide, Brandon, was the best. He was so knowledgeable, funny and loved to answer questions. He really made the tour awesome.

Nice place to visit on a hot day

By Stephanie C |

My family loves a good cave tour, and this one did not disappoint! We enjoyed the cave formations and the very clean and pure water while learning about the ecosystem within this particular cave. Our guide was very new, and we overheard a couple of other tours and did miss some because of his newness. However, he was very personable and did a good job and with time, will be a great guide. This place did get busy in short order. We had about 20ish people in our group, but passed about 4 other groups at different times during our tour. With that said, we only waited about 15 minutes after paying before being able to go down into the cave. There is a gift shop to peruse while you wait and bathrooms (be sure to go before you head down!). It is cool in the cave, but we did not feel like we needed pants or jackets. I would recommend wearing sturdy shoes, but I did notice some people wearing sandals and flip-flops and they didn't appear to have any issues. The entire walk had wet floors, so I would be concerned about slipping if you wear shoes without good grip. They are very clear about the number of stairs that you need to do, but keep in mind that all 200+ are not in one run. The worst set is 80+ steps and that is on your way out. The guides are patient and you can certainly take the stairs at your own pace. On a hot day, this is a great option!

Go check them out!

By Tracy G |

Chase was very knowledgeable and friendly! Lots to see and learn! Definitely worth the trip! One of the biggest and easiest caves we’ve toured!

Amazed in May!

By kristen f |

The tour is well structured, entertaining and informative. Our tour guide,Travis, was excellent. He demonstrated his knowledge of the cave and gave many details of its geological and discovery history. The various tour guides exchanged friendly banter when tour groups crossed paths. It is obvious that they enjoy their work and the cave itself. The cave is awesome!

Fun cave to explore

By Scott V |

Fun time. Ory, our guide, was fun; very knowledgeable; and an active spelunker in this cave. Very interesting hour and a half. Well worth your time.

Well worth it

By AmbernHK |

Amazing experience. Our guide was fun and shared a lot of information along the way. The tour was about 90 min and we’ll worth it for the price of the ticket. Not to mention it was cool and got us out of the heat. Brandi was personable and made the time fun learning while entertaining. Brandi — you “rocked our world”

Interesting but would be unpleasant with a large group

By lisa |

We visited at the end of the day as part of the last tour, and there were just four of us. That was perfect. We passed a couple of large groups coming out, and my guess is that that would’ve been an unpleasant experience navigating the caverns with people of different ages and abilities. There are a number of steps and very uneven walking surfaces, so while we felt safe and secure, we could tell that not everyone did. So, that would make large groups difficult because people move it such a different paces. If you’re comfortable hiking on a trail with a slope, and uneven steps, then you would be comfortable in the caverns. We enjoyed the underground creek, as well as the big room that was completely dark when the lights were turned out. Total darkness is amazing. The guide was adequate, not sharing very much information in the second half of the tour. It does not appear that much has been invested in the above ground facilities, but one can look at them as a historical relic. Overall, we were glad we visited, but even happier that our tour had only 4 people.

Put on your "To do list"

By Kathy L |

Our tour guide Trevor. This was our 2nd time to the cavern in 10 years. Great experience once again.Enjoyed the history of the cavern with Trevor's twist. We were lucky to have an awesome group during the tour. A must see if you are in the area.

Must do attraction

By Sooner00 |

This is a must do if you are in the area. Great experience and the staff were friendly and made sure everyone in our group had a good time. The caverns are amazing

So much fun for all ages!!! Our tour guide was friendly and helpful. Very pretty views underneath Earth! We will definitely come back again.

Great experience

By Yolanda Stewart |

This was an awesome place to tour. Our passionate and very knowledgeable guide, Brandy, made the experience even more memorable. I highly recommend this place.

Great place to visit

By Dan S |

We toured the caverns on November 8, 2022, with Chase as our tour guide. He did a great job and was very knowledgeable about the cave and its history. The caves are really interesting, and are different from other caves we have visited in nearby areas. It is a family-run business, and all of the employees were a bit more relaxed than the employees of other caves. I would suggest all of the employees have matching shirts so it is obvious who is working there and who is just visiting - that would take the professionalism to a higher level. I'm sure we will visit again in the future and will bring other family members with us that weren't able to come on this trip.

Stalactites & Stalagmites and Lots of Fun

By KMW-FL |

This cavern is a very interesting tour. Our tour guide (her name was either Abby or Aggie) was phenomenal. She was totally in charge the whole time and was able to project her voice over the entire group even we were a little spread out. She made the trek down/up the stairs and pathways a fun time, telling us when to duck for the lower ceilings and catching a crawdad to show the group (the kids loved it). She took us on the trail pointing out different formations and shadows that looked like a bear and other animals and lots of stalactites and stalagmites. The Big Room was just that!! HUGE. The lights are turned out and it is so black you can't see your hand in front of you...but only for a few seconds. Then we were taken to the waterfall area and that was cool too. All in all, it's worth the time and effort to see this magnificent part of nature. It takes about 1 1/2 -2 hours and there is NO bathroom. Not handicap accessible. The stairs can be challenging for some. I think there are over 150 round trip. But still worth it. They have a very nice gift shop too.

Power outage and completely irresponsible staff.

By Cacy H |

The power went out and the guides had no extra sources of light. Fences in disrepair, guides continued to bring groups down despite unsafe conditions. When confronted with the unbelievable lack of safety navigating with no lights staff were very rude and rude and took no accountability. No emergency lights. Nothing. As we inched our way to the entrance our guide decided to continue the tour and abandoned those that didn’t want to continue with the lack of visibility. A nightmare. I would never recommend going here.

Tuckaleechee Caverns is a must see, especially if you like rocks!!!!!

By Harmony G |

The cavern is absolutely amazing!!!! Stunning formations, a "beach", you'll get lots of cool information about the different stalactites and stalagmites.

A great, surprisingly deep experience

By LenSchmidt |

I went to the Gatlinburg many times when I was younger and somehow never made it to this cavern, or even knew it existed. I found it on TripAdvisor when planning a first time visit to the area for my wife and stepson and decided to check it out.
Was very surprised by the size and beauty of the caverns. The tour took more than an hour and was very enjoyable. Lots of great rock formations, underground rivers and even a waterfall.
Our guide Lizzy was excellent and did a great drop of explaining the interesting history of the caverns and pointing interesting formations as we went through the caves.
Highly recommend this spot if you are in the area.

Great !

By Paradise57951506962 |

Awesome place ! Very knowledgeable tour guide as well ! It’s a very neat place to explore and listen about the formations and history of the cavern.

My experience was amazing

By Tesha B |

We visited the caverns yesterday and Brandi was our tour guide and she did her thing! She had so many facts about the cavern, was able to answer all of the question that were asked. She was funny and made the visit even better. But the cavern were absolutely breathtaking. The big room has to be my favorite part. I’ve never seen anything like it before. I’d say it’s a must see and definitely recommend take a trip here!

Tuckaleechee Caverns

By mtgavin |

The trip through the caverns was very interesting. Some very interesting formations and large caverns. Amazing what geological processes can create over very long periods of time! Lizzie was a great guide with some good insight and stories about the original boys that first found the cavern. Lots of cool stuff in the gift shop as well. Overall a nice way to spend a couple of hours.

Amazing Cavern Tour

By Jim K |

This is a must see! This was an amazing tour and history of this cave our guide Lizzy did a tremendous job of showing us the cave and providing the history.

I had a blast! I absolutely recommend to any group. It's for all ages. A total experience of a lifetime!

By Freedom26332777210 |

The tour guide was so incredibly knowledgeable. Answered all questions that were asked and witty too. The experience as a whole was very fun for all 8 members of our family which ranged from 10 to 60.

Hidden gem in Townsend!

By susan m |

Amazing caverns and a fun tour! Abby the tour guide was very knowledgeable and fun. The actual hike was great, a good value!

A marvelous experience of a magical piece of the Smokies!

By Tatiana |

This was an absolute gem! The caverns were spectacular and our guide was super funny and entertaining! She was knowledgeable and answered so many questions. We were very impressed with this place, its special. A must do!

Magnificent Cavern but Challenging.

By Jukeman57 |

It’s an amazing cavern. Extremely nice folks. Tour guides were great. But let me warn those of you that might have a physical handicap or just not very fit. It is physically challenging to descend the many steps that lead down into the cavern. Then as you walk the tour, there are poorly lit walkways. The walkways are inclined in some areas. There are other stairs along the way that have to be climbed too. Then you have to climb a number of steep steps to get out of the cavern. I highly recommend taking the tour because it is amazing but just know, it might be challenging, especially for older folks and the less physically able.

Always learning something new!

By Adelre |

Great location for history lesson! The tour guides are extremely knowledgable and answer any and all questions that are presented about the caves. I do not remember the young man’s name but he informed of us things from the history standpoints and also from personal experiences he has had in the cave. This is not our first trip to these caves and it seems every time we learn something new and gain better experiences!

MUST SEE

By Allie L |

Great experience, great guide, and great coon skin caps for the kiddos! I would definitely recommend stopping if you’re up for a unique guided adventure.

Family Fun

By Ethan K |

Great tour! The Cave itself is an amazing wonder and display of nature's beauty. A smaller tour group would have been better. The facility is dated, but don't let that deter you, it's well worth it. I had 3 kids, 7 yo 4yo and 2 yo. I carried the 2 yo in my arms half the time, mainly when the path was uneven or there were stairs. I left my phone, duh, in one end of the cavern and our amazing tour guide Brandi went back to get it for me! Lots of stairs and some low ceilings, for a 6'3" guy. Wasn't bad for the rest of my group though!

A definite goto

By SomeOleDude |

A definite place to visit when passing through the area. It goes 600 feet down and 1.25 mile round trip in and out of the caverns.

A must see!

By Quest07714716199 |

We spent a week in Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area and decided to do this tour on our last full day as we headed closer to the airport. We did several excursions while in Gatlinburg and all of them were considerably more expensive than this and this was one of the favorites! Our group ranged from 11 years old to 48 years old and everyone really enjoyed this tour. There are a lot of stairs 410 in total per the tour guide. They do let you go at your own pace especially as you climb the last 87 stairs to get out of the cavern. They have bathrooms on site that you can use before and after the tour and a gift shop. I think the tour lasted around an hour to an hour and a half. The tour guide was great, she was very knowledgeable and really seemed to love her job! Wear comfortable shoes and take a sweater. You won’t be disappointed!

Great experience

By Darren D |

10 of us enjoyed the caverns (grandparents, parents, young children). The tour is well planned, and the guides are very good. There were many fascinating details, and we all loved it. I've been to many caves, and this one has one of the greatest varieties of things to see.

Fun experience

By Amy J |

We brought our 2 kids who are 6 and 7. The whole family enjoyed the unique experience. The cavern temperature was cool, and my daughters were happy to have light jackets on.

A river cave, rainy seasons will allow you to see more water.

By Pau L |

I may not remember the name of my tour guide (sorry) I think it started with an A, it might’ve been Amber or Ashley, regardless you did a wonderful job touring everyone, I went to Tukaleechee caverns on November 5th 2025.

The cave is a privately owned cave, and has seismic sensors installed (hence lots of electrical cables you will see, which is real cool) and it is a unique cave in its own right with an active cave river flowing throughout the whole thing, something I have not witnessed yet. Also cool to witness rare crystal formations such as this large almost free hanging shelf crystal that keeps growing horizontally outwards, though I don’t remember the name of it.

Unfortunately our timing was slightly off as there wasn’t much rain, so the river was not as high, but still very cool to witness. There were also lots of crystal formations formed by waterfalls that once existed throughout different parts of the cave too.

WOW…a must see

By Loretta W |

Very cool experience about an hour outside Gatlinburg. This isn’t for people with mobility issues. You go down steep stairs and low clearances. But just an amazing story of how the cavern came to be and the natural beauty that is down there. Abby our tour guide was very knowledgeable and funny.

This place really is a must see

By AU-GNV-FL |

Am so glad I went and explored this underground site. The gift shop above it has both things to buy as well as some history items. The story on how this site was discovered and developed is incredible. Once underground it was so unreal, felt like something created for an elaborate Disney movie.

Wonderful tour and guide

By Kelly M |

We spent a morning at the caverns with our 6 and 8 year old. We all loved it. Our guide Caleb was especially entertaining, knowledgeable and funny. What an asset he is to your attraction. Both kids were engaged the whole time. Beautiful caverns!

A trip to remember

By Robert |

The Caverns are a great place to visit. The people are very friendly and will to answer all your questions. Our tour guide (Alyha) was wonderful and very through. Thank you Alyha you made it worth. See you all again. Thank you! N

Well worth the 87 steps

By Michelle O |

My husband and I loved the caverns. So interesting to see and our tour guide Abby was so nice and very knowledgeable. Would highly recommend!

Not sure what I was expecting…

By Jessica Sisson |

Fantastic experience! Adults and kids loved it! The guide even showed us the crawdads and salamanders. We got to drink from the 98% pure water! Turning off the lights and sitting in absolute darkness was wild. Would love to do this again!

Fantastic formations, beautiful drive, great tour guides

By maranda c |

This was one of the coolest caves I’ve ever been in! 11/10 would recommend. We loved learning about the history of the cave and how its family owned and operated. Our fantastic tour guide Jonah was so knowledgeable and fun, we definitely want to go back! Some of the most beautiful formations I’ve ever seen. Also a beautiful drive through the Smokey mountains to get there! Fantastic day all around! Definitely going back!

Great Tour

By Karen S |

Lizzie was a fantastic tour guide. I’ve been to Mammoth, Carlsbad Caverns, and Wind Cave and honestly enjoyed this one almost as much. Lasted an hour and fifteen minutes and there were 410 steps (205 down/205 up). They were in separate areas so it wasn’t too bad. Most at once was 87 stairs at the end. Cool large room the size of a football field. My favorite though was the double subterranean waterfall. Definitely worth a visit. Decent gift shop with fudge and local honey.

Highlight of the regional trip

By Trish R |

Doesn't seem like much from the outside....but definitely worth the trip. We had a great guide and seeing the caverns and formations from the inside was both fun and informational. Highly recommend this as part of your regional visit

A surprisingly great adventure

By Stephen G |

This cavern system was a pleasant surprise with beautiful formations and a delightful waterfall. Our guide, Lizzie, was a real gem. I also loved the 50s vibe. It wasn't glitzy or sensationalized--just a great place to explore a cavern

Beautiful cavern with a wishing well with a waterfall and natural spring.

By Kim D |

We visited this beautiful cavern recently, and Brandon was our tour guide. He was amazing! His knowledge and personality made our tour so informative and fun. I think the other groups were jealous when passing by! The wishing well with a waterfalll was by far one of the most beautiful places of the tour. Highly recommend for family fun for all they also allow you to drink directly from the spring running through the cavern, the energy is amazing!

A tour to remember

By MelissaJW |

Wonderful cave. Some unique and spectacular formations. The tour was enhanced by our guide Brandy. She knows the history of the cave; geology; flora and fauna and a charming sense of humor. She makes you want to care about the cave.

Family outing

By Holly L |

Been to many caverns over the years … This was the best cavern one so far. The guides were super friendly and accommodating. This was an unplanned visit due to a horse back adventure cancelled and didn’t disappoint. Was a windy drive to get there but easy. Our family consisted from very young to old and was enjoyed by all. Was a lot bigger than expected.

Exceptional

By Curious55546742473 |

This is a very unique experience perfect for all ages. Easy hike if you were the proper attire. Our tour guy Brian was very knowledgeable and funny. Affordable, easy to reach, family and couples friendly 10/10.

Awesome tour with Chance!

By Christi Osborne |

Such a wonderful experience! The cavern was beautiful and the waterfall amazing! Our guide, Chance, was super friendly and very knowledgeable about the history of the caverns. DEFINITELY recommend visiting!

Nice Tour

By MTB-Illinois |

I've been to the area several times throughout the years and never took the opportunity to tour the caverns. Nice tour. So glad we did this. The walk, along with the stairs are a little strenuous for littles and the elderly.

Great experience.

By S.p. |

A great tour, our guide, Lizzy was very knowledgeable. She did a great job answering everyone's questions, and giving us plenty of time to enjoy the cavern.. I highly recommend this place.

Amazing cave

By tmcclawyer |

You won't be disappointed in this cave! It's basically an underground river, well-lit and great walkways, does have some stairs in places but really not strenuous. Our guide, Lizzie, was the absolute best! Knowledgeable, super-friendly, and tells the best corny jokes. Must take after her Dad.

Fantastic experience! Definitely something to put in your bucket list!

By Chad C |

The Tuckaleechee Caverns we’re absolutely stunning, and we are very thrilled with our tour! Our tour guide, Izzy, was very knowledgeable of the area, and did a fantastic job, giving us great explanations on all the fascinating formations. This definitely needs to be a destination to put on your bucket list! It’s a hidden secret!! You do have to be able to navigate steps going down and back up and it is a little hike. But the pace is good…and if you’re able, it’s completely worth it!

Teriffic way to spend either a rainy, weather day or a day to beat the heat for couple hours.

By Kevin A |

It was very, very interesting. New tour guides should maybe shadow experienced ones a bit more, to learn better communication and group interaction skills, as well as cave facts. Ours was new and young, and we felt like we may have walked away being bit more informed from a slightly more experienced guide. But he was super nice.

Awesome pop lace

By Steve H |

We had a group of 11. The caverns were amazing. For the money it was very worth it an hour and a half tour underground. Our guide Chase was very knowledgeable polite funny made the whole experience much better. If you’re in the area it’s a must see

Wonderful experience

By Discover665485 |

Beautiful place to visit. Very interesting cave. Very friendly informative staff. We felt welcomed as soon as we entered the store. Like the fact that it was started by two families and it is still being operated by one of the same families.

Great tour!

By Amy S |

This was a great tour! We had a lot of fun and learned a lot. Our guide, Eli, made us laugh. The waterfall was beautiful. Had a lot of fun.

Cool formations, give brandy a raise

By Ethan dilks |

Was amazing, I loved the formations and felt very controlled and good in the cave. Give brandy the tour guide a raise please.

Great family experience touring Tuckaleechee Caverns!

By Dennis B |

Our group of 11 family members (ranging from 5 to 70 years old) toured the Tuckaleechee Caverns together. Several members of the group had never been in a cave or cavern before. Our guide (Chance) was very informative about the history of cavern and it commercial operations and the various formations and features in the caverns. Everyone had a great time!

A must visit

By Kimberly F |

Amazing tour given by Brandy. Very knowledgeable and super nice! Couldn't have asked for a better experience! Thank you soo much!!!!!

Stairs, and remember to duck

By Cici68 |

The wait for the next tour was only about 15 minutes so the tour probably took a little over an hour. The tour guide was nice and informative even threw in a few jokes. The caverns were nothing extraordinary, especially if you’ve been to other caverns like Luray. The waterfall that they advertise was not that full it was just trickling. They have a lot of stairs though and some are rather steep and can be slippery because they’re wet. You also have to duck even for shorter people like myself which I am 5’5”.

By Cohl B |

It was awesome very fun some cool stuff was down there you should come here
Down halso ere there are so pictures. Cohl also there are some things that you can see at the front

NASTIEST PLACE EVER

By shmuel l |

i went to this place with some friends and it looked mazing from the outside. after we went inside the people there kicked us out for literally no reason. when we asked why they said were calling the cops because your trespassing. a few minutes later the cops pulled up.

A great tour. My pictures were fantastic. Enjoyed the experience
The tour length was very appropriate.

A Must-See of Townsend

By Amanda R |

I couldn't believe the beauty of these caverns! Abby (our tour guide) was knowledgeable, funny, and takes great pictures. I recommend wearing comfortable hiking shoes!

Interesting science. It’s all about the delivery!

By Mary E |

We were fascinated by the caverns and all of the components of the tour. A great experience and the information that was imparted was ok BUT had we been able to understand our tour guide better, it would have been seriously amazing! He spoke too fast. He told stories about certain things on the tour and then would say he was just kidding. Well, if I’m paying $25 for a guided tour, I want facts and not clowning around which wasn’t funny anyway. Toward the end of the tour he briefly talked about the seismicTKL and that “he didn’t see what all of it fuss was about” but frankly I was really interested in that part of the tour. I approached him toward the end of the tour about this and it was clear to me that he either didn’t know anything about it or was eager to get on with his next tour group for the tips. I felt dismissed.
I would definitely recommend this tour and hope that Ory isn’t your guide.

Great spot to visit

By Jaclyn M |

This was a great part of our trip to The Smokies!! The caverns were a great spot to explore and do a homeschool field trip!! Our guide, Travis, did a great job and kept us entertained as well!!

Our family really enjoyed this

By Jenbeard125 |

The tour was one of our family’s favorite things on our recent vacation. The tour guide, Ben was a great mix of humor and history. The cavern itself was very neat to see and we really enjoyed the experience.

Amazing Caverns!

By Neil D |

It is a beautiful place! Loved it! It is an easy walk and the formations are amazing. I highly recommend this place if your in the Smoky Mountains!

A Must Do. .

By Janet F |

Beautiful cavern. Well worth the money. Elli was an awesome guide. Very glad that we decided to tour this majestic cavern.

We will definitely come back with the kids.

By Misty G |

It was amazing. Drinking pure water and seeing the waterfall was so awesome. Our guide Ben was the beat. He was so informative and any questions we asked he knew the answer. He was also hilarious. Best part of my trip.

Beautiful natural wonder

By Courtney Y |

Had an amazing time! Our tour guide (Issac) was great and very knowledgeable. If you are in Townsend take some time to explore this amazing place!

Amazing experience away from the crowds!

By Dreamer700834 |

This was a surprisingly exciting tour, and was not expecting the grandeur and expanse of the tour at the caverns. We went with a large group and our tour guide Olivia was too notch! Great for family’s and large groups. She explained the fascinating history of the caverns and was patient with all parties. Would come back again! Thanks Olivia!!

Low intensity, family friendly tour!

By Annie W |

The tour of the caverns was so fascinating to go on. Our tour guide Olivia was fantastic and knew an abundance of information about the cave's history and geological formations. We weren't sure what the intensity level of traveling through the cave would be, so we wore hiking boots and head lamps ... only to find out soon that we were severely over-prepared. The tour had fairly low physical demands (the most involved part being walking up/down some stairs to reach different parts of the cave). Several families with young children were in our tour group and had a great time. The tour lasted about an hour and a half, which was largely comprised of stops to observe specific formations within the cave. My best recommendation is to ask the tour guide lots of questions--they are loaded with knowledge of the caves! Overall it was a great time and would be a fun activity for people of all ages.

Family Vacation

Staff was very courteous and informative. Great day well spent. Beautiful and humbling, will make it a destination every year.

Awesome Pre-Football Daytime Acitivity

By The O’Neals |

Visiting friends that live in Seymour. A short drive. We are from Ky and Familiar with Mammoth Cave. Similar vibe but on a smaller scale. It does have some of the “worlds largest” this and that. We walked 1.4 miles per my Fitbit. You do have to negotiate stairs. The grounds are handicapped accessible but the tour is not. I would not recommend the tour if you get out of breath easy. Also not easy for kids if they can’t walk and follow directions. Remember the cave echoes. We have a few kids too small in my opinion for the tour and their crying echoed the whole time - very annoying. The 7-9 yr olds had a ball. We liked our visit and would recommend. Go to Townsend after for lunch we ate ate The Abbey.

Brandy rocks!

By Bill W |

Brandy rocked our world!! Awesome tour guide made for an excellent experience. Would highly recommend a visit here

The Best Caverns we've ever visited!

By sandymcdaniel99 |

This is a really neat cave to visit and it was cooler outside than inside. We enjoyed the guide and all the interesting things he told us about the cave and it's history.

Hidden Gem Beneath the Smokies

By Kelsey W. |

Travis did an excellent job as our tour guide! He was able to provide us with plenty of information regarding the cave system and was able to answer every question asked. The tour is about an hour and a half and takes you through quite a bit of the cave system, even showcasing a waterfall! This was absolutely an attraction I would recommend and I would love to do it again someday!

A must see destination!

By Sherri W |

The carvers we’re fantabulous! We all enjoyed the guided tour very much. Lizzy our tour guide was knowledgeable and entertaining. We loved her😍

Very Interesting! But more physically demanding then it seems.

By Katy B |

We had a good day and really enjoyed the tour. (Two adults, fairly fit, in their 30's and 40's). The only thing that surprised me was there really was no details given to know what you are signing up for. We walked in the door and the man said "2 for the cavern tour?" We said sure. and that was it. No extra details about how proper footwear is a must (I couldn't believe how many people were wearing sandals or flip flops as we walked down hundreds of steep, dark, uneven, slick, steps). Or people that had to carry small children or toddlers. We have two young boys at home and I would definitely say this is an age 6 and up tour. My 7 year old would have loved it 100%, but it would have been 2 miserable hours if we had our 2 year old with us. If you are claustrophobic, afraid of heights or the dark, skip this tour.

Great trip

By Chuck East Tenn |

This is a fun adventure down in a huge cavern with lots of history. It is mildly challenging but still doable. Our tour guide, Ore, was funny but also informative.

Go underground - Very cool

By Mark B |

Had a rainy day so decided to go over to Townsend from Pigeon Forge on Wears Valley Road. Many very cool general stores and antique shops on the way. The Caverns are a very cool place, full of Cave bacon, stalagmites, stalagtites and columns. Water running though it and waterfalls inside. Very cool. I highly recommend it. And on a hot summer day, it’s even better as it’s like a constant 55 degrees in there.

Wonderful experience, a must see!

By Randi M |

The stairs were fine .....don't let the number scare you. The formations are spectacular.....I took so many photos! I only wish that folks were instructed not to touch the walls, formations, and other features to preserve the unique ecosystem. Every other cave I have visited has this guidance in place. I am so glad I visited.

A Hidden Gem!💎

By Amy R. |

This place is amazing! Abby was our tour guide and she knew her stuff. Very informative and lots of fun too. I highly recommend this trip. A real hidden gem!🥰

RACISM

By Simcha B |

We came in and they were very rude and disrespectful. And then they kicked us out for no apparent reason and claim that because one of us were smoking or vaping when there is no no smoking sign This is on The Verge of racism and anti cementism.I'll not.I'll not recommend anybody to go.
Zero stars

Must see

By Will T |

Amazing! My Dad and me loved the caverns. A little bit of a hike but we loved it. The big cavern was awe inspiring. Would do it again when my little ones are big enough. Love the caves. We went in 2018.

Trip beneath the mountain

By Andrea W |

This was a cool cave experience! Staff was friendly and knowledgeable! First cave I’ve been in that let you feel how cold the water was!

Amazing experience

By Jenny S |

We had the best time.! Our guides name was Ory and he was very friendly and knowledgeable. The cavern was breathtaking and do beautiful. The sounds were soothing. I give it 5 stars!

Great cave

By dorsalmo |

Cool cave with a river through the whole thing (including a "beach" where you can touch the cold water and a big underground waterfall). Our tour guide, Conway, was great - knowledgeable and funny. Definitely recommended.

Must do in Townsend TN

By Swapna C |

Mind blowing caverns that have been maintained impeccably. The guides take you on a tour - don’t try to go down on your own! There is a fair bit of walking and stairs but it is manageable. Nature’s handwork will take your breath away and the tour guides make the entire experience joyful. Our guide Ellie was fantastic! Five stars all the way.

Awesome tour, a must do on vacation.

By Scenic61514636645 |

The trip was awesome, they take you in the cave as a group with a guide. Our guide Ore was awesome. He was very knowledgeable about the history and kept everyone in the group entertained and answered all our questions. My wife and I have been to different caves and enjoyed all of them but this was the best one so far. Thank you Ore for a fabulous time, we will be back.

A good adventure!

By Jetta H |

I am an older gal with bad knees and arthritis in my back. This trip was difficult for me, but I think the challenges - lots of stairs and some areas where we had to walk bent over - were described before we bought the tickets. The trip was worth it to me - an interesting time underground, and easy for newcomers to cave exploration. I have read reviews here that were written during the plandemic, and the responses that the owners wrote regarding the mask and distancing nonsense; they are good, intelligent people.

Must-See Hidden Gem Near Townsend

By Emily S |

Tuckaleechee Caverns is absolutely worth the stop if you’re near Townsend. The caverns are stunning … especially the massive “Big Room” and the underground waterfall. The formations are beautiful, and the crystal-clear stream running through parts of the cave adds to the magic. Our guide, Cole, was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the experience feel personal and engaging. Make sure you bring your walking shoes and take all the pictures !

My new favorite cave tour!

By Scott |

This tour was better than Mammoth Cave, Cumberland Caverns, or any other cave I can remember. Tour guide was very knowledgable but a little grumpy. The beautiful waterfall at the end of the tour was extraordinary!!!

Best cave I've ever been to

By Amanda S |

Really great experience. Lots of steps so be prepared with small kids. Brought my 8 yr old and 4 yr old. They loved it. Bring some coins for the wishing well. The waterfall inside the cave is amazing. Our guide was informative and fun. We'll def be going again.

Super fun and pretty

By Paul O |

Place was beautiful, the tour guide was kind and full of information. Wasn’t to expensive and definitely worth the money

Beautiful challenging and confidence building

By kathryn k |

It was awesome I'm a 64 year old who is a rare brain cancer survivor and kidney cancer. When I saw the stairs I started to cry. As much as I wanted to share this experience with my grandchildren I was afraid I couldn't make the 400. My daughter and grands encouraged me to try. It was exhilarating! It was worth every step and the hyperventilating at the top but I finished. It made me know despite my treatments I still can! Not going to lie I had to push myself like crazy. Staff was kind and encouraging. After that experience I had the confidence to hike up Laurel Falls, Dollywood and dancing at my daughters wedding. not all in the same day. Grateful for the opportunity even if I am so very sore still from the experiences. Thank you for the beauty and convenience bust! I would like to continue to build on the strength and go back and try again. My group ages 4, 7, 9, 38, 39, 65 and me 64 love it.

Amazing day out

By Paul O |

I was on vacation from Ireland in April and my girlfriend wanted to check out Tuckaleechee Caverns so off we went to explore, it was amazing seeing so much below ground and our guide was very informative throughout, we definitely got our steps in! All in all, a wonderful experience and would recommend it to anyone!

Best cave tour I've ever done!

By Liz K |

This was such a cool experience. I tend to get a little claustrophobic in caves, but this one is really open and spacious. It's beautiful - so many interesting formations and different rooms to experience. Brandy was our tour guide, and she was awesome. She is super knowledgeable and really seemed to enjoy answering our group's questions. My only complaint is that by the end there were multiple groups moving through at the same time, and so a couple of times it became hard to hear her. But overall it was a highlight of our visit to the Smokies and I would love to go back.

Good family fun on a rainy day

By Jamie H |

Great family trip on a rainy day. Be ready to wait in line. We parked the kids in the car with some rock candy and drank a beer in line. It was a great cave. We have done mammoth and it was just as good. The bathrooms could use some attention.

Wow! Just Wow!

By Bear |

You won't find a better bang for your buck anywhere! The views in these caverns are absolutely breathtaking! Can't recommend it highly enough! Be prepared to do some ducking at certain areas which are not much higher than 4 feet, but they are few and far between. Some of the steps are slippery so wear good traction sneakers/boots. Temperature is 58 degrees down there year round so dress accordingly.

Awesome tour

By Mampi S |

Absolutely loved this cavern tour.. the tour guide was amazing and very knowledgeable! The tour lasted about an hr and half.. great adventure for families and kids

Pleasant experience

By Kate A |

This was a very fun activity for a rainy day! Our tour guide Chase was funny, informative, and did a great job with the group. Took about 90 minutes start to finish. Quite a few stairs and lower areas to walk through, so keep that in mind. Very fun!!

Great!!! Awesome experience!

By Charlotte H |

Our tourist guide is Abby, and she did a great job!
I love this cave, we are local from TN, went to lost sea, ruby fall and this is the best one I have ever been so far!
It’s big and tall cave, the light is not too crazy that makes u feel unnatural, just perfect!!
Great experience! Thank you ☺️

Super cool!

By Haley J |

The guide Olivia was actually so sweet and it was totally worth the price. It was so fun and cool and just a great experience that I totally recommend

Very exciting! I didn’t think it would be as fun as it was but it was actually very interesting and I enjoyed it!!!

By Jezzi B |

Five outta five! It was a very beautiful site to see! Would recommend to any one up this way! The only issue I seen was it needs to have a mining for gems place like gatlinburg had and it would be even more exciting!

Caverns

By Louise P |

Better stairs and Better hand rails. I felt it was Not safe. I was hoping to see a better water fall.

Awesome experience!

By Justin J |

This place was awesome! The Caverns were amazing. The guide was very knowledgeable and a great story teller. The history of the Caverns was very interesting. I would definitely recommend 👌

True Darkness

By Paul G |

This was a great visit during our vacation to Tennessee. Seeing true darkness was the kid's favorite part. Definitely a must do and takes less than 2 hours.

Cavern Fun

By Jennifer S |

This was a cool family experience! We bought tickets and headed down within 15 min.; it took about 1 1/2 hrs. from start to finish. Be prepared for numerous stairs, but the time within the big room and the path to waterfall was so cool. I was glad to have tennis shoes on; it was good alongside the grated path/stairs and hand rails.

Fun family experience

By Matt S |

Neat family experience with friends. The cave facts are interesting. Seems to be all family owned and operated. Nice place to visit.

It has a waterfall!!!!!

By Mara G |

This was one of the most awesome caves we have ever toured. It has a waterfall!!!!!
Our guide was fabulous. She was very knowledgeable about the entire history of the caverns. She let us take our time and truly take in all of the natural beauty.
100% recommend visiting if you are in the area.

Wow!

By kindbehindtheeyes |

What an incredible place! And the staff were quite professional and knowledgeable. It was a great experience.

Fun and Unique Cavern

By Smith Seven |

It’s a very different kind of cavern than I’ve been to. I’ve been to Carlsbad and Mammoth Cave but this one is very unique and well worth the stop. The tour guide, Chance, was knowledgeable and made an effort to talk to each family/group within his tour.

Great for our kids: 4,4,5,11,14 years old. The grandparents managed well also!

By Heather N |

We decided to do this tour based on web reviews. It was about $26pp and lasted about 2 hrs total. There are 486 steps....so those who can't do stairs will struggle. The footpath requires good grippy shoes to avoid slipping. My only request would be the ticket center and souvenir shop and restroom facilities be remodeled. It is run down and doesn't appear that it is taken care of for the price they are charging for tours! (Hence the 4 star instead of 5.)

Great time, don’t miss it!

By Betsy Moore |

I did this tour today with my family. It was amazing. Very small group (only 9 total, off-season and at lunchtime, highly recommend). Chance was our tour guide and he was fantastic! He had detailed stories about the history of the caverns, and about each section that we went into. He was so friendly and willing to answer any questions from us, including my 2 kids (who have a lot of questions). The rest of the staff, some of whom are part of the family who own the property, were equally friendly and helpful. The caverns themselves were beautiful, and although they were safe and well-lit they have been minimally tampered with, no fancy colored lighting or anything, just the natural beauty. I’m more than a touch claustrophobic but the spaces are so large that it never bothered me. You do have to duck a little low a couple of times but no one on our tour had any trouble, and there was a very wide span of ages. They mentioned that the tour groups are quite large (100+) during the busy season, so if you can go at an off-time it’s preferable. I have done several cavern tours all over the southeast, and this was definitely one of my favorites!

The whole family loved this experience!!!

By Littleone722 |

This experience was incredible. I couldn’t stop smiling. The kids (aged 5-12), my husband, and I all agreed this activity was one of the best parts of our trip to the Smokies. The guide was OUTSTANDING, and the caverns were stunning.

It was odd at first because you park and go inside this dated gift shop type building. You purchase tickets and then wait until the tour time. Once that happens, you descend this wide ramp in the back to a rocky lower level. It wasn’t fancy or showy. Lowkey style, though very safe and well lit. Despite not knowing what to expect, we immediately we felt welcomed and comfortable by the guide and friendly staff. The backstory of the caverns was given at the beginning of the tour, and truly was a highlight. Then we found out it was still family owned. So cool. The stairs heading into the cavern were many, but not a big deal and I felt very safe on them as the steps were either grated or had a gritty, textured applied.

We loved the big cavernous rooms, the beach, the waterfall, all the geology info. Just a fantastic experience. I will recommend this place to anyone heading to the region.

Nice Tour

By Michelle T |

Overall we enjoyed the tour. Lizzy was very nice and knowledgeable. I think it would have been better if the group was smaller. It took alot longer because people were being slow !!!

Awesome underground experience

By Cynthia D |

A very informative and interesting experience. Well worth the money and time. Our guide was very entertaining and knowledgeable.

Great tour

By Rachel H |

Ryan did a great job. Very personable, knowledgeable, and we loved the jokes along the way. If you don’t mind stairs, walking, and getting a little wet, our family highly recommends this tour!

Enjoyable, informative, must see

By John G |

Really informative and enjoyable tour. Had a fantastic guide Jonah who explained the history of the cavern well. A must see place.

Amateur cavers

By Patrick |

Excellent tour. We’ve been on numerous tours of caves in the Southeast. This was the best. We had our 5 yo granddaughter with us. She was very entertained. Lizzie, our tour guide, was informative and kept things light with a good sense of humor. We highly recommend this activity.

Great experience

By Jay B |

Awesome tour through the caverns. It wasn't a difficult walk. There are some steep stairs, but nothing too strenuous. Our tour guide Abby was fun, energetic, and extremely knowledgeable!!

Recommend

So cool!! Awesome tour guide that was very knowledgeable. Highly recommend. It's a family owned business.

Townsend, Tn trip

By jpb42 |

Family owned & operated. knowledgeable / friendly staff. Good experience . Tip: bring a jacket & flash light. Lots stairs

Awesome friggin time!

By ben s |

Had a BLAST! Our tour guide was funny and very informative, and the caves were absolutely beautiful! It was an exercise though, so if you've been idle for a few years, you've been warned. But it's totally worth it and a little exercise isn't gonna hurt you

Worthwhile Tour

By Wendy P |

These caverns are amazing to see and so cool to walk through! Our tour guide Alex was funny and very nice. We enjoyed this very much.
You will be there between 1-2 hours, there is a lot to see underground. Also bring a flashlight, you'll be glad you did.
Small children need to be watched very carefully, as they could easily fit under the hand rail that separates the tourists from the drop down to the rocks/water below.
Be aware that there are a LOT of steps, I think there were 87 that we had to climb to get back up to the surface. If you're not somewhat physically fit, it may be difficult for you.
The tour groups can be large and traffic jams happen, so be patient.

Best Cavern we've been to yet

By Curtis S |

Lizzy was our tour guide and was so nice. We had an excellent time. Would highly recommend stopping by and getting some fudge as well. Never send so much water from the creek inside a cave before and the waterfall was amazing. Stop by and see them and learn about the cave. If you get Lizzy as your guide you won't be disappointed. Thank you for taking us in close to closing time thebkids had so much fun.

Mother Nature at her best! Must See!

By tampabay56 |

Great tour of a beautiful cave system. So many unique formations and the Big Room is very impressive. Hope you get Brandi as a guide, she really knows her stuff and she is very entertaining, love her sense of humor!! Just know that you will walk around 1.5 miles over uneven surfaces and go up/down uneven steps that are damp. If you can handle this, it is WELL worth the time and effort!

Group Tours Are Way Too Big!

By Brad M |

The Caverns are great, but the staff is disorganized and takes groups that are way too big. The groups have 50 people each, which means if you are in the back half of the group, you can’t hear a thing.
Also, the guy at the cash register was obviously high. That was disappointing.

Worth it

By Keli M |

Informative. Fun for the entire family. Easy enough for everyone to access. I took my parents, siblings and my child, so if three generations can enjoy one activity it’s a win.

What God created Needs to be Seen!

By Dara S |

We went tubing in Towsend with River Rat and had some time afterwards. I had researched things to do in the area and Tuckaleechee Caverns came up! We are so Glad we added this to our trip! Brandy was our tour guide and she did an Awesome job telling us all about the Caverns!! All I can say is Breathtaking...what God has created needs to be seen!! If you have the time take it. The whole tour took us about an hour. Bring a jacket or sweatshirt...it's a cool 58 degrees inside!!

Amazing!!!

By Lysa M |

If you happen to be heading towards Townsend Tennessee, Tuckaleechee Caverns is a must see! It’s a euphoric experience, and the tour guides are very delightful! It’s a great way to get in a nice hike, while being surrounded by a peaceful and magical environment. Thank you to our tour guide, Lizzie, who did a superb job!

Fun Experience!

By BKD |

It was really cool! The formations, waterfalls, and general experience were really cool. The stairs were not too bad, but for those who struggle with mobility, it may be a challenge. I am happy we went!

Great caverns to visit-- but physically challenging to get back up to the top.

By becsmith42 |

Very cool (literally) cavern in east TN near Townsend. Temps in the caverns stay constant at 58 degrees. There were some neat formations and we had a very good guide with us. The only issue--- for the walk into the caverns, there is not an elevator to bring guests back to the top. The entire way has 400 steps..... about half going down and the other half coming up with the last 87 steps from the base of the caverns up to the top. Guests are warned about this before starting. So anyone who is "step challenged" do not need to do these caverns. But the walk and climb was worth it for those who were able.

Scary at first, exciting, then relaxed. Great tour guide ( Brandy ) Waterfall ending.

By Paul S |

Our group was about 12 people. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, her name is Brandy. It started out pretty scary, was exciting and mysterious all the way through and became quite relaxed to the point you'd want to walk through it all a second time. The ending was quite climatic and I won't give it all away. I'm actually going to research other caverns to explore now that I've broken the ice ( got my feet wet. ) I didn't think I'd capture such good photos in a cave! I'd highly recommend this experience to others. The stairs were a minor workout, nothing too exhausting, I took a short breather between staircases when there were 2 in a row. Enjoy ya'all!

Great experience

By Jim |

The tour was excellent. Very informative and the caves are great to visit. I would definitely recommend. I cannot remember our tour quiedes name but she did a great job.

Cavern Hike in Tennessee

By Steve B |

On a scenic trip you can find the caverns not too far from the highway outside of Townsend Tennessee. The overall experience was great, the backstory is interesting, and the cavern is worth seeing. We wouldn't say it was breathtaking but if you like natural sites then you should stop in. The price of admission was very low and the guide was helpful and patient with the overall group. If you are physically challenged in terms of walking, standing, balancing, and climbing stairs you may want to think twice.

I would recommend

By Angela B |

We had a group of 8 people ages 5 to 60. Everyone enjoyed the tour. Our guide did a great job. I loved hearing the history behind the caverns. The spring and waterfall is nice. (In my opinion Ruby Falls waterfall is nicer) Please know there are over 400 steps. This was difficult for my mom with emphysema but she did it.

Most prehistoric gross bathrooms for a public tour.

By Rod K |

We visited 3/25 in early afternoon...as you walk downstairs to the meeting room you first notice exposed wiring and plumbing...Abby the tour guide was very good and the tour itself was good...Our only complaint is that this is a public place and as such should have modern bathrooms for both male and females...we visited 5 caves in 3 days and they all had modern bathrooms...these bathrooms were beyond belief...very small, the smell is terrible...the tiny hand dryers did not work...the trash cans were overflowing...the sinks were terrible with no soap in the mens...my wife said she needed help from another guest to lift the gallon of soap that was on the floor to pour onto her hands...the toilets are gross and the toilet paper is hanging on a wire...my wife said they had two sinks and only 1 was dribbling out water...We were told this is privately owned and one of the male owners is working up front at the cash register/ ticket counter...I dont know why they can not invest in new public restrooms...My wife went to the restroom before our tour started and came out and told me she was so grossed out from the restroom that she wanted to forfeit her tickets for the cave tour and leave but I talked her out of it...This is a business and you need to invest in it when you are dealing with the public.

Worth the trip

By Angela H |

Very educational and interesting experience that we added to our vacation. Worth the trip just. Just make sure you can handle a 1.25 mile walk and almost 200 steps.

Great experience!

By Colleen M |

This is one of the most natural cavern experiences we"ve experienced. No colored lights or other gimicks. They are big, the tour guides are knowledgeable and down to earth. Very educational as to seismigraph monitoring.

Fire up your time Machine set to 1953

By caddyjak |

Beautiful, natural venue; however, this attraction belongs back in 1953 when they opened. The bathrooms are outside and are outfitted like old-style roadside primitive pots. The entrance and gift shop are woefully outdated. YET! the pricing is inconsistent w/ the setting. $20+ bucks for the tour and apparel priced top shelf. Don't waste your time driving way off the beaten track

Amazing Experience with the best tour guide

By Amanda Thomas |

The caverns were beautiful! Our tour guide was Steve. He has worked there since he was 16 in the 60's. It definitely made our tour even better with Steve because he told us alot of interesting stories about the cave and how they discovered hidden areas. I couldn't help but to ask questions just to hear his stories. We were definitely blessed and lucky to be paired with Steve. You could tell he loves the caves as well with how he told stories and explained different parts of the cave. We decided at the beginning of the tour after hearing Steve talk about the flooding and how we had plenty of time to get out if it occurred on our tour..... "If Steve is running....we better start running too!" We highly recommend anyone tour the caves! On
e of the major highlights of our trip from Northeast Indiana!

Favorite place that we visited

By Roseroot |

We visited Dollywood, an easy Smokey mountain trail and Anakeesta and this was one of my families favorites!!! We went with a group of 16. 8 adults and 8 children (5-10 years old).
The beginning entrance is a bit small but once down in the caves it’s very large. 2 people turned around because it was small in the beginning. If you can mentally get through the entrance it is amazing and very safe for 5 year olds and up. One of the rooms is the size of a football field. The facts and stories held the kids’ attention. A family of 4 was around $72 but we spent about 2 hours there. The gift shop had reasonable prices too. My only advice is make sure everyone goes to the bathroom before going down into the caves because it is 1.25 mile walk. Make sure you can climb lots of stairs too. This tour was well worth it and we learned a lot.

A blast for the whole family

By Reema |

Brought the whole family to see the tuckaleechee caverns. Everyone loved it, family owned and run by the same family that discovered the caves years ago. Our tour guide Brandy was eccentric and funny as well as informative on the cave and formations within it. So many photo opportunities but just being there is amazing. Couldn’t recommend it enough, if you’re in the area its a must!

Loved the tour of the cavern!

By Nancy H |

We did the cavern tour today and really enjoyed it! Litzzy was our guide and did a great job. Lots of steps, but there was no pressure to hurry. I got lots of great pictures.

Awesome time and definitely worth the trip and money

By Brandon A |

We had Kieran as our tour guide and it was a pleasure! He was funny, knowledgeable and friendly with us and all our questions! We had a great time and he definitely made it a memorable experience! Definitely worth a visit and request him for your tour guide!

Informative and Interesting

By Lyn P |

Our tour guide was Chance. He was very informative and was able to answer all kinds of questions about the cave. The different formations were amazing! There are a lot of steps to climb, so I wouldn't recommend this to those who have heart or lung issues. You'll also need to be able to duck down, especially if you're tall. It was an enjoyable activity.

Cavern to add to your Smokies trip.

By Kim H |

My daughter was wanting to see a cave while on vacation, and we discovered Tuckaleechee in the area we would be traveling. For a smaller cave, it still had very interesting formations, and loved the waterfall. We are glad we made time to visit.

Fun family time

By Cow dogs mama |

Very nice and informative tour with Beth. You could tell she really enjoyed her job and we definitely enjoyed the tour. Perfect temp inside of the caverns. If you have never been take the time to go.

Quite a challenge!

By Al W |

This is quite a site below ground!
This definitely is not a trip for people with a bad heart or lungs. There are over 200 steps going down which means there are over 200 coming back up!
But other than that, if you can do it I am sure you will enjoy it!
The cavern has some really unique sights. The water flowing by is crystal clear! Near the end of the tour you will see a beautiful underground 200 foot waterfall. I definitely recommend this stop if you are vacationing in the area.

Safety features severely lacking

By David S |

We were told before the tour started how many steps there were -- 200+ in and out -- no problem. We weren't told how uneven the steps were -- the height of the tread varied greatly and in places the width of the stairs varied too, making walking up and down stairs difficult.

Even more dangerous was the height of the guard rails. In many, many places they were barely knee height, meaning if a visitor lost her or his balance, there could have been a serious fall over the edge. Those consistently need to be higher, and in places where the walk way and the guard rails go over open space, there needs to be consistent barriers between the posts. And in some places the stairs were very steep, almost straight down, or up, and should have varied with back and forth paths.

After these safety issues are addressed, please know that there are very few limestone formations in the cave -- the main reason I visit caverns. The stalactites and stalagmites in this cavern are few and far between. And the script which was written for the guide left out many that were there.

This is a cavern that I will never visit again.

Fun day exploring!

By Road40389653295 |

My buddy and I had a great time on the tour with Abbey as our guide. Highly recommend it as a great adventure. The cavern was amazing as you can see.

Fascinating tour! Must see!

By Greg B |

Very interesting tour! Isaac was a great guide! Fascinating caverns and a nice long tour too. Wear some comfy shoes! And if you are cold natured bring a jacket as it’s damp and cool down there. Family owned and run. Definitely recommend!

Good times!

By Daria Z |

It was a great tour. Ory was funny and gave a great tour and was very knowledgeable. I would highly recommend if you haven't seen caves before.

Amazing!

By Roberta M |

Hubs and I had an amazing experience! The waterfall was cool. Love the stalactites, stalagmites and columns. The bat poo was interesting. Who knew they went to the bathroom all civilized! Izzy was a wonderful guide! Highly recommend!!

Great family experience

By Kimberly C |

We visited the caverns in March 2023 and enjoyed the tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and fun. My mom worries did kick in when she had the kids sit on a ledge and turn the lights off! I thought for sure one of them was going to slip into the abyss, but when the lights came on, there was no drop off 😂 and the kids loved yelling for the echo. The waterfall was cool and overall a great experience. I love that the original family still owns and operates the tours.

Just wow!

By Lester W |

Very awesome! Pictures do it no justice. Just go and take the tour! $22/person for about an hour and a half tour - well worth it!

Great experience

By Sandy M |

This was a very nice tour through a cave. We had the opportunity to taste the water that flows through there and was the freshest water I’ve ever tasted. Our guide, Chance, was very knowledgeable about the cave and the formations that form in the cave. I would highly recommend this. There are quite a few steps so be prepared.

Very interesting.

By Barbara-Tom P |

Two senior couples visited the caverns. They are beautiful. While the guide was very nice and informative , I only gave three stars because the group was quite large with a lot of very small, noisy children. It was difficult to hear what our guide, whose name we didn’t catch, was saying.

A highlight of our vacation

By Arthur M |

Fun, interesting, informative and a great family legacy to learn about. This is a must do, no matter your age.

Typical Cavern tour

By Bala Rao |

If you haven't been to one of these before, this is a great start. Clean and nicely setup, the tour lasts about 1 hour and has about 1.5Miles+ of walk. The guides are helpful and overall, I thought it was worth the time and money.
The underground river/stream is nice and calm. The formations are pretty and are like most underground caves in the smokies range.

First Timers in Caves

By Jane B |

My family and I really enjoyed the tour. Ryan was great! This was our first time to TN and first time visiting the caves. Well worth it. I loved ending our tour in the gift shop to get some souvenirs. We plan on returning! Thank you!

Nice Place

By Pickle8182 |

With the coupon it was a little over $78 for 3 people. The people are nice and it's family owned. It isn't too cool, so you don't need to dress too warm. Plus, the workout with all the stairs will warm you up. The cavern is pretty and the formations are nice. I don't know how much it costs to run a cavern, it just seems a lot, but the Forbidden Caverns are about the same so I guess it's the going rate.

#teambrandi

By Marty G |

First time visiting this experience. My wife, myself and best friend visited. Our guide , Brandi, tremendously effective at her job. (Take cash first tips for guides. Brandi didn't have CashApp and I really wanted to show Brandi some gratitude. Get Cashapp and have the guides wear the QR code on a button.

We are local from Maryville. We will bring visiting family and friends back to visit

Fun and educational experience

By Sandy C |

We loved going to the caverns. Beware that there are over 400 stairs, so wear good walking shoes! He caverns are very large inside and there were quite a number of stalagmites and stalactites to see,

Highly recommend!! Great tour, great price

By Trish S |

Among the best cavern/cave tours we have ever taken!!! Loved the waterfall and the river. Enjoyed the fact that it was a little less developed than some and had a more “natural” feel. And GREAT price!! Highly recommend

Hidden gem

By Scott T |

This cave experience was amazing!!
It was a guided tour about 90 min.
Our young lady tour guide was SO cool and VERY knowledgeable. Answered all questions and her humor was fun!
There are steps (w/ railings) yes but all are 'grooved' so you don't slip. There's plenty of flat walkways and benches when you want to sit and gaze at all the formations. Well lit too.
The guide took great care letting us all catch up.
As we all sat in the 'big room' she announces she'll turn off all the lights...wow you couldn't see your hand in front of your face!!!
There were so many rock formations but the ones that we loved were the bear, the two dragon heads, the gnome (I pointed out to her), and the ones that looked like 'Jabba the Hut'.
The wishing well was cool and so was that beautiful huge waterfall.
We definitely recommend going here, excellent tour (very educational), there's bathrooms, gift shop, and plenty of parking. 👍 👍 two thumbs up and 5 out of 5 stars 🤩

Awesome cavern

By MelanieBeth1 |

The whole experience was amazing. Our guide Lizzy was very informative and friendly which made it so enjoyable for us!!

Great place to take the family!

By Michelle E |

Wonderful experience. Great family fun! The tour guide did an excellent job!! Highly recommend as a place to see will in the smokies!!!

Last minute plan

By stephanie r |

My husband and I visited the area to get in some good hiking. After hiking for 2 days, we opted to skip the days hiking and go see the caverns instead. We were so happy we did. Our guide was amazing. I wish I remembered her name but she was incredible. The knowledge she had of the caverns was enviable. This is a must do! We had no idea what to expect when we made the last minute decision to go. It is truly a beautiful phenomenon and reminds you how incredible nature is.

Definitely wear hiking boots or shoes…87 steps is no joke. A huge thank you to the families who have kept this going over so many years. A huge thank you to our guide (maybe Brandy) ….if you are reading this, my son was blown away by the Hell Bender photo!!

Cannot wait to do this again!

Worst customer service

By Puimagneer |

They don’t take reservations and start tours at random times depending on demand. When we arrived, we were told a tour was about to start. We hadn’t eaten yet, so we asked when the next tour was and the girl at the cash register said not sure, but you can join this one now. Since the tour was 1.5 hours, she told us we could come back in 15-20 min and join the tour. We went back to our car and scarfed down some of our food in less than 10 min. When we got back to the ticket sales, she said, sorry the tour started. She didn’t care, didn’t show any empathy, just deadpan and matter of fact.

We decided not to do the tour because they wouldn’t tell us if the next tour would start in another hour or not.

A must do!

By Kimberly W |

Went on Saturday 5/11. We were able to join a tour that was about to start but were told wait times are no more than 20 mins. Issac was a great tour guide. Take some tip $ with you in case you feel inclined. Pictures don’t do it justice. Take your camera. So many beautiful formations. Take an empty water bottle with you- you’ll find out why during the tour (no spoilers from me). Waterfall was wonderful but the entire tour was. Every turn was another awesome or beautiful sight. Our tween son LOVED it & thought he was going to hate it. There are stairs down in to the cavern and throughout but there are other flat walkways. The drive is easy from Pigeon Forge and the cavern is worth the time to get there. Definitely add this one to you list of things to do!

Extraordinary Caverns

By Leic B |

This whole tour was educational and impressive. The guide walked us all the way down and throughout the caverns. This was my first time seeing them, they were beautiful and very well preserved the caverns and millions of years old and the scholactites were huge. One of the best and memorable places of our stay. Highly recommend for the fast, easy, and friendly. Extremely safe and cautious. Beautiful sites and tons of pictures/video opportunities. Chance was our tour guide and he knew everything about the caverns and history and was very through and easily understood to young audience.

Great rainy day activity

By ramblinggirl67 |

My friends and I met up in Townsend for a weekend to hike in the Smokies. When we realized it was going to rain all day on the first day of our trip, we scrambled to find some alternative plans. This was perfect. It was active but “indoors”, and still a way to marvel at nature. We stayed at the back of our tour group as that made one of our friends more comfortable, though this meant that we missed most of the things the guide said. I have previously gotten a lot of anxiety in other caves I’ve visited but this one felt more comfortable for some reason. Once you buy a ticket, you hang around until it’s time for the next tour. I think the bathrooms and the visitor center could use updating. It would be nice to browse an exhibit about the cave and the seismic monitoring system while waiting for the tour.

Good experience

By Teri J |

Our tour guide, Travis, was exceptional! Very knowledgeable and entertaining (we liked that!)
The caverns are HUGE and you really get an aerobic workout round trip. The one disappointment was the waterfall. Billed as the tallest in the eastern US, we were expecting to see more than the small opening that allowed not much more than a shower head of water to flow through.

Highly Recommend

By Stephanie D |

The cavern was amazing to see, especially the water fall. Our tour guid, Orey, was very knowledgeable and was able to answer any questions people from our tour threw at him. He very humorous in how he presented information and we were engaged the entire time. We had a great experience and highly recommend checking them out.

Gorgeous!

By Jenni M |

Loved hearing the story of how the caves were discovered. Amazingly beautiful inside and much larger in scale than the Florida Caverns we visited a few years ago.

Beautiful!

By Mary Jane N |

These Caverns are so beautiful! Our tour guide Isaac was awesome! It’s definitely a workout but worth it. Definitely wear some gym shoes since you’ll be walking up and down the steps. All the staff was very friendly. Would definitely recommend checking out this beautiful part of nature!

Brandy is Marvelous!

By Kourtney D |

We had Brandy as our guide, and I’ve got to say she was fantabulous. From her funny jokes, to all of the informative information. I would definitely go again!

Cavern tour

By elizabeth k |

Such a unique part of vacation! Abbey our guide was very knowledgeable. I would highly recommend, even my 4 and 2 year old enjoyed it.

Such a cool experience!

By Rebecca R |

The tours are great, and all of the tour guides are knowledgeable and kind. The caverns are beautiful & a must-see! It is a strenuous trek in & out of the caverns, but worth it!

Highly Recommend

By Alicia C |

An amazingly beautiful natural structure. We have visited multiple caverns in Eastern USA & this one has multiple fascinating things to observe - waterfalls, big spaces (deep and wide), drapery room, stalagmites, stalagtites, unique formations and so much more. I am fearful of heights, yet I was able to navigate the 410 steps, walkways, l edges with support from my husband with no anxiety attacks! If I can do it, you can!
The history is remarkable.
The price is reasonable.
The fudge in store is delicious.

Totally worth the drive!

By crazycampingmom1 |

Thank you to our tour guide (I think her name was Elise). We loved this place and highly recommend it to anyone going to the Gatlinburg pigeon forge area! Totally worth the drive! Dress warm!

Would recommend

By George R |

It was enjoyable. I would recommend if in the area. 500 ft down, saw a waterfall and a great room. Bring your own high power flashlight

A day underground

By Douglas J |

We had a wonderful time. Our guide Brandy was informative and funny. The tour took about 1 hour 45 minutes. Well worth going there! For anyone who's is claustrophobic, most all of the caverns and walkways were very open.

Great experience! My tween girls enjoyed it!

By sondag2010 |

Tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly. Besides the 87 stairs (go down once and go up once) the “hike” was very easy. My Apple Watch noted it to be around half mile in total. My girls are ages 12 and 10. They enjoyed it tremendously. It stays a cool 53 degrees at all times. We were comfortable in jeans and a sweatshirt when “hiking”.

Fun Adventure under Tennessee!

By Joyce1927 |

We just stumbled upon this hidden adventure! I'm really glad we did! With some coaxing from my husband, I agreed to do the tour! You have several steps, 205, to be exact!!! But I made it!! Beautiful caverns and great guides. Family owned! I highly recommend them!

Very intersting tour!

By Stephen M |

We ahve been in many caves and this ranks right up there with the best. My only complaint is that the group size was a little large (i know this is controlled largely by staffing issues) but we had a hard time hearing along the way. She did a great job of including everone at the stops, however.

Must do

By jessicaa2004s |

We've done a few caven tours in other states and this one was amazing. It was stunning inside, there is a lot of stairs for people who may have issues going up and down them. Our guide, Ori (sp?), was awesome, informative, very clear and very funny!

Cool caverns, long waits, huge groups

By Katie H |

We had high hopes for this experience based on many rave reviews. The caverns were very cool, but your experience will be heavily influenced by your tour guide and the size of your group. We were in a group of about 50 people and were unable to hear the guide at all. We also had to stop along the path several times to wait for other groups to pass by. They clearly had way too many people in the caverns at one time and the group sizes were wayyyy overbooked. Cool experience if you are extremely patient and don’t mind lots of stairs and standing/waiting for long periods of time.

A great place to visit

By Gigi1972 |

This place was so amazing. You would never think this amazing cavern is right under where you parked. Lizzy was a great tour guide. If you love science and history this is a must see! Just a side note.. a ton of stairs!!

Awesome Tour with Zack!

By Dan M |

This is a must see when visiting the Great Smoky Mountains. It is affordable and entertaining. Fascinating history, beautiful sights, and our tour guide Zack who answered every question and kept us laughing...what more could we ask for?

This tour is perfect for visitors of all ages. It lasts about an hour and had a great gift shop. There are some steps, but everyone that was a part of our tour handled them without issue and there were people of all ages 4 or 5 years old to mid 60's.

We enjoyed it thoroughly and we plan on bringing family members when we return.

A must see adventure

By Danielle A |

Awesome side quest! Highly recommended. Real Goonies vibes. Got an enthusiastic smile out of the sullen 16-year-old boy.

An experience you don't want to miss.

By TN mountain life |

Contrary to a few negative reviews, the caverns are spectacular. Walkways are concrete as are the stairs. Handrails are older but all steel. Sure there are wires on the ground for lighting but they are safely away from your pathway. This is a great treasure and a wonderful experience if you like caverns and some history. I have taken many friends there when they visit and all enjoyed the place. The guides have always been informative. The facility is older, but it has that kind of back in time charm too. It is an experience you should not want to miss.

Hole in the Ground?

By caminorey |

What an awesome experience to go into these caverns
It’s a guided tour and takes about 1.5 -2 hours to get through
It’s a fairly long walk in fairly dim or reduced light but each room is jaw dropping
It’s a little tight in spots a low ceilings so watch your head …at 6’4 I got drilled a couple of times
Did get some amazing pictures .

Down Under

By 60seattle |

Nice family run business. We have been to several caves. This one impressed us because there is a stream running through most of the cave and a waterfall too. Very unusual and pretty.

Next level disrespectful

By Stay60855685113 |

I recently visited Tuckaleechee Caverns with a group of friends, and the experience was nothing short of a debacle. After looking forward to exploring what is advertised as a must-see natural wonder, we were met with a level of unprofessionalism that could only be described as disgraceful.

Despite following all the rules and guidelines provided, we were abruptly kicked out without any clear explanation. The staff's attitude was rude and dismissive, as if they were doing us a favor by letting us enter in the first place. Their arbitrary decision to eject us seemed completely unjustified, leaving us bewildered and frustrated.

The caverns themselves might be worth seeing, but the way we were treated rendered the visit a total waste of time. It’s clear that Tuckaleechee Caverns could benefit from a serious overhaul in customer service. Until then, I wouldn’t recommend wasting your time or money on this poorly managed attraction.

Great tour

By Laurie S |

We enjoyed the tour. Very informative. Some areas were less lit than others. Would have liked to have had additional lighting on tour to see more formations.

Spring Break 2025 cave excursion.

By Shell D |

Absolutely beautiful! We took lots of pictures and videos. The tour guide was very informative and friendly. 10/10 recommend!

Awesome experience!!!!!!

By Mary D |

Chance was our guide and he was awesome. Gave lots of information about the caverns and made the tour very fun.

Strenuous but well worth it!

By Stephen C |

Very large and impressive cavern system! A lot of steps can be strenuous but well worth it! I highly recommend

Excellent Underground Adventure

By Nathan P |

We try to do one educational adventure each day on vacation. We’ve done several different caverns in Virginia and Tennessee, but this might have been my favorite. Large system to tour. Great young man giving us the tour. If you have to carry a child be prepared for the exercise. Highly recommend!!

Loved meeting the son of the founder

By Meryl B |

A lot is stairs to climb but was worth it! Plenty open space! Loved the cavern & the story behind it! To know we were 500’ below was pretty amazing!

Highly recommend!

By VickiB624 |

This was a very interesting and fun tour! It takes almost 2 hours and there is a lot of walking and stairs to climb, but definitely worth it. We did it with our 8 year old daughter and she did fine. Our tour guide, Caleb, was great! Highly recommend!

Surprisingly Interesting

By DNorden |

I lived in Blount county for many years and had no idea this cave was so interesting. It was fun and interesting for all of us 7 to 63. Our guide Ivan was very informative. I would go back next time I’m in the area on a hot day.

Family fun at Tuckaleechee Cavern

By Alycia L |

We has some time to spend in the afternoon and decided to check out Tuckaleechee Cavern, which turned out to be an excellent choice. We had our 6 & 7 year olds who thought the cave was the best part of our trip! Mostly because Ory, our tour guide. He was very insightful about the history of the Cavern but also incredibly funny! It was a well spent 1.5-2 hours in our favorite place!

Spectacular caverns

By colifox |

AMAZING tour!! At first I was like uh ok!! Not knowing what we were in for! We have been to some cool caves but this one totally amazed me!!! It is gigantic! I love the running stream and the inside waterfall! So beautiful!! Travis was our tour guide! He was amazing and made it so fun as well!! The tour guide makes the trip and he did not disappoint! Thanks for the fun and knowledge you shared!!

Massive cave, awesome guide!

By David R |

Abby our guide was knowledgeable and hilarious. She's awesome! This cave is massive! A must see for the price when in the Gatlinburg area.

Experience the beauty beneath the Smokies!

By Lori K Travels |

The cave was amazing! Our guide, Orry, was very knowledgeable about the cave’s history and geological features. It’s a good workout with many stairs and inclines. Some of the steps and walkways are somewhat uneven, but the guide was good to make us aware of these areas. Unfortunately, it’s not an accessible location for anyone with mobility issues that require assistive devices.

September 2024!

By Samantha A |

We love it! We have visited many times and every time has been totally worth it! Even with smaller kids! Definitely check it out!
Ori was our tour guide this last visit and he was great!

Breath taking

By Martha L |

Amazing experience. Our tour guide Brandy was very knowledgeable and down to earth. Funny as well. Very beautiful. A must see

Beautiful cavern

By Persephonespryd1976 |

Best cavern we’ve experienced to-date.

The guides were amazing and funny. The sites - amazing. The only downside, there are stair in parts of the cavern that are terrifying to navigate due to needing to duck/ crouch while navigating and the sheer height. If you have a fear of heights, this might cause issues. I’m normally good, but this had me a little panicked.

The waterfall was the best part!!

Caution: lots of stairs. Going back up at the end is a workout.

Well worth a visit

By Fiona G |

Excellent visitor attraction, and well worth seeing. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and all the staff were very friendly. I loved hearing the story of how the caves were discovered and it's great to hear it's still in the family now.

Absolutely amazing

By Ed K |

This is an experience you do not want to miss. While the location is easily accessible, the tour requires some physical agility as you navigate the stairs and walkways throughout the cavern. No worries for those who may be a bit claustrophobic (like me) as there are only a few areas where you need to watch your head. Amazing formations, beautifully accented with lighting and highlighted by the guide - hard to comprehend that these are millions of years old. The river is incredibly clear and flows along most of the walkways. We sincerely appreciate the staff accommodating our dog who had as much fun exploring as we did. Be prepared for cool temperatures, periodic water droplets, and some exercise.

Smokie Mountain Getaway..

By Linda G |

Tuckaleechee Caverns was an awesome tour on a Hot summer day. Very friendly and informative staff. Awesome gift shop.👍

Nice caves

By bcurr2328 |

Our guide Travis was great. We enjoyed the cavern, which is privately owned with a very interesting history! The area upstairs could use a bit of updating - seemed pretty old and musty, but the employees were all very nice.

Awesome

By MrsSnyder2018 |

Such a neat experience and such a great tour guide named Brandy!! The air was great and the cavern was really cool!

Go to spot

By Mary U |

Beautiful well taken care of cave. Abbey was a fantastic tour guide. She explained the history of the cave and made it a memorable experience

Best parrvofvour trip

By Reggie R |

5 days in pigeon forge with a dozen different activities and this has been by far our favorite. I have been to Calsbad Caverns and in my opinion these are better. Admittedly, Carlsbad is much more friendly navagation, but for me this is what made this experience better. At one spot only 4 feet of clearance. The best part is the underground creek. The underground water fall is a bit oversold as only the last 20 to 30 feet are visible. But it has an underground waterfall and that is so cool. The space near the creek has created underground beach areas. That was a very unexpected surprise. You need to able to walk back up the stairs in the end. At 60 this was a very good workout but made it up. Fantastic experience.

Educational and spectacular

By majurek37 |

The Tuckaleechee Caverns are well worth the time and cost. Abby was our excellent, knowledgeable tour guide. This privately owned property opened to the public for tours in 1953. Originally discovered by two young boys, they grew up, got educated, earned money and bought the property! It is still run by family today. I believe the temperature is 58 degrees year round, so with the exertion of stairs and inclines, it was quite a comfortable temperature. Some of the formations are likely thousands of years old. Don't miss the "drapery" room, the "big" room, the underground waterfall and the "beach."

great trip underground

By Rich M |

nice place to visit on a hot day, the tour guides give detail descriptions of events and history. still family owned and a great stop when in Townsend.

Great adventure

By grace c |

Enjoyed a great tour! Jonah was a wonderful guide, very knowledgeable, learned a lot about the facts and history, an he was very upbeat and made our time such a joy. Almost didn't stop at this cave but glad we did! The cave is beautiful, relaxed, beginner friendly. With my twisted ankle I managed just fine at the easy pace, some stairs but nothing I couldn't handle. Took about an hour and 20 minutes to complete. Highly recommend 🙂

Tuckaleechee Caverns never disappoints!!

By Colleen W |

Tuckaleechee Caverns never disappoints. We returned today and had Abby as a tour guide. We have been to the caverns many times and really enjoyed our visit today.
The fudge is a must !

Family cave hike

By Philip B |

This was a great off the beaten path day trip. Staff was courteous straight from us entering the building. Great views and not as touristy as Ruby Falls. I would highly recommend especially if you are working with a budget.

Worth your time

By Amy H |

Definitely worth your time. A lot of stairs for older folks but for able bodied humans, do it! It gets busy so go early and it only takes about an hour and half.

Very informative and adventurous tour done by Abby. The formations are amazing! Parts of the cavern were steep and over 400 stai

By MARY P |

Amazing adventure with a very knowledgeable guide, Abby.
Many areas of the underground to explore. We really enjoyed the 60 minute walk through. Nature underground.

Lizzy was our guide and did a fantastic job. She was incredibly knowledgeable about all questions asked.

By Jennifer |

This was my first experience inside a cave and I was so intrigued. Very well taken care of and waterfall at the end is beautiful!

Worth the Trip!!

By Sandee S |

We thoroughly enjoy going to these caverns. This is a family owned cavern. All the employees are family there and conduct the tours. The guides for the tours are friendly and offer great explanations of the cavern growth during the tour. There is a small gift shop as well as fudge for sale. This past trip is the third time we have done this particular cavern tour.

Informative, relaxed and awe inspiring!

By Doré M |

Brandy our tour guide was funny and informative. She was a pro and never once spilled her cup of iced tea during our tour! 😂 That was my first ever cave tour and I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!!! I will definitely be going back. My husband took me and my daughter on vacation for my Birthday.

Surprisingly good

By Brendan S |

I have been to many caves, but had not heard of Tuckaleechee Caverns before. I am always up for a roadside attraction even though it smelled like a tourist trap, especially at a steep $26 admission. But these caverns are among the most impressive I have seen. They include huge chambers, some very tall stalactites, “chandelier” and “curtain” formations, and even an underground waterfall. The tour is also quite thorough (at 1.5 hours to traverse about 1/2 mile underground, it could actually stand to be a bit quicker). Whether you have been to many more famous caves or never visited one before, Tuckaleechee is worth a visit if you are driving through this area on a trip to or from nearby Great Smoky Mountains National Park as I was.

Tuckaleechee Caverns Visit

By Cynthia L |

Abby was our Guide, she was friendly, knowledgeable & informative. I love the Back Story about the "explorers". A Great place to visit & learn and get Your Steps In 😆. Simply Beautiful!

Definitely take the time to go!

By JoDee J |

The caverns are amazing and the story of their discovery is equally as amazing. Our tour guide Abby was very knowledgeable and fun. I highly recommend going!

Great time!

By Taylor L |

We had a great time at the Tuckaleechee Caverns! It was breathtaking to see in person, and everyone that worked there was so kind!

A day out (or in) from what is happening under our feet.

Great experience and is a must do while visiting. Staff was great and extremely friendly. It’s a must see, with a good learning experience.

A Great Tour of a Truly Great Cavern - WOW

By AdventurousMom63 |

My jaw must have dropped about 20 times during our cave tour. Absolutely stunning. We have been to quite a few caves over the years so I was expecting to see neat formations and lots of narrow passages and have a cool hike on a hot day...but to my amazement, so much of this tour was huge open expanses of underground vistas like a dark hidden Grand Canyon. Beautifully lit (thank goodness) with carefully placed lights, and a gorgeous stream running through the whole thing, there were many enormous cave rooms, cave beaches, and crazy formations including some waterfall/waterdrop features. Our guide Brandi was excellent, funny and good natured and really seems to love her job and this very special family owned (family owned!! imagine if the Grand Canyon were privately owned!) treasure. Well cared for, and truly a wondrous gem. Quite easy to navigate, a few places that made me glad I'm only 5 feet tall, and enough steps that I wouldn't advise someone with really bad knees to try, but overall very user friendly and so open that no one in our group had any claustrophobia (an issue at some others we've been to ha). Well worth the visit, I will happily go again when folks visit us.

Great ending to our family vacation

This tour was awesome! Our tour guide was Caleb. He did a great job and was so knowledgeable of the caverns. The further you go down the better it gets. The “great room” is amazing.
You need non slip shoes and get ready for some steps up and down. Bring a water bottle to fill up at the “beach.” The temperature is a cool 60 degrees year round.

Hidden Gem

By melissa t |

The best hidden gem in the area!! It’s a must see! Employees were courteous and friendly! Our tour guide Olivia was very knowledgeable! We loved it! If you are in the area I highly recommend going.. you won’t regret it!

Worth the money!

By VivianXD |

Awesome caverns to see, with a neat waterfall inside. Our tour guide Chance was very nice & knowledgeable. We had a small group. There are quite a bit of stairs, but our 3 year old did fine because there were rails and there was a bunch of cool stuff to look at. Now we also know what bat poop looks like! Lol... It was an impressive visit, and our guide told us that if you come on a day when it has not rained, you can drink the water down in there! Because of the rain, the rivers inside the caverns were really strong and looked cool. It was $50 for two adults and a kid under 4, but that was totally worth it!

Amazing Cave Experience

By Jenny L |

We had the best time at Tuckaleechee caverns; Isabel was our tour guide and she was awesome. The tour was extremely entertaining with many interesting facts and cave details pointed out by the tour guide, and she was funny too. It was a true cave experience with many steps and some lower clearances. I found the whole thing to be fascinating and I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone physically able to do it.

Loved this cavern!

By Megan W |

Most amazing and unique cavern ever! A stream runs through it and it even has a waterfall! We have been to most of the caves in the USA but this one was truly worth seeing (they all are great, in their own way, but this one was unlike any other). A must see!

Hidden gem!

By Melissa M |

We were not aware of the caverns during our visit and was a highlight of the trip! We went horseback riding down the street at Davy Crockett stables (which was awesome) and came here after. It did not disappoint, kids loved it!

Large Underground Space!

By Brenda P |

Good visit and tour. Surprised by its vastness. Some really cool underground formations, especially the underground waterfall, the wishing well and the totem pole and nearby formations that I forget the name of. I was pleased too that my 30 something guests also greatly enjoyed this experience.

Awesome your!!

Great tour, beautiful caverns with a waterfall at the end. Abby our tour guide was awesome & kept the tour interesting with a lot of historical & geological facts.

Great Story

By monica |

Awesome!!! Great tour with a great story behind it. This is not a tour for physically challenged people. The stairs are steep and there are quite a few of them. You are truly in an underground CAVE. One person in our part had to leave because of anxiety(closed in with no quick escape).

Underground Mountain trip

By Steve D |

Brandy was a great guide. She really knows her stuff and can answer any questions. She also explores caves and has a lot of that knowledge too. This was the third cave we have been to and by far the best. Depth perception and true sizes of things are very hard to see, since there is nothing close to items to compare. Standing in the "big room" doesn't seem as big as it truly is.

Tour a Great Disappointment

By Jeanne B |

Four of us came for a Tuckaleechee Cavern tour on Sunday, June 16, 2024.  The caverns are interesting, but I imagine they would be SO MUCH MORE interesting if we had been able to hear the guide.  He spoke loudly, but with the echo and the  large group, only those at the very front of the group could understand him.  We, unfortunately, were not at the front of the group.  When others in the group also could not hear, they began to chat among themselves, which made it even more difficult to try to catch anything being said.  There were times when he was giving instructions that I imagine also included safety warnings, but we could not understand any of it.  Fortunately, no one got hurt for lack of information. We will be in the Townsend area often, but we will not be returning to the caverns.  It was a waste of money and we were very disappointed.

Amazing Caves!

By Jadine G |

The caves were an amazing experiment! Lots of steps so make sure you wear comfortable shoes. Our guide Abby was friendly, very knowledgeable and dealt with some rowdy guests in a very professional manner. We enjoyed the tour very much and would definitely recommend!

Best cavern ever!

We had an amazing times exploring the cave with Abby! Such a cool place with great history. Hannah’s mini waterfall was great!!!

Underground wonder land

By Carla |

Tuckaluchee Caverns was a great spot to visit especially on a rainy day in the Smokies. The story of the caverns founding as well as the fact it is a third generation family owned & operated business was phenomenal. Great experience for with Chance as our tour guide. Amazing wonder there in TN!

Cool cave!!!

By Richard |

So I don’t have the most experience with caves. This is the first I’ve been in so I really don’t have anything to compare it to. I thought it was costly at $24 a person. The tour takes about an hour & fifteen minutes. It was super cool seeing all the stalagtites & stalagmites. There are a few areas you really have to duck if you’re taller like me. The guide was very knowledgeable and answered all questions. Overall it was a cool experience and worth doing.

Well worth the price of admission!

By JimAimee |

Amazing to see God's creation from underground! Loved that one of the founding men's family, still carries on the tradition. This was my second visit to the caverns and it did not disappoint!

Unbelievable experience! Great cavern guide Lizzie!

By Molly B |

Blown away by this experience. The caverns were unbelievable! We had the best cavern tour guide-Lizzie was so knowledgeable and nice!

This is well worth the time

By Steve V |

This was a wonderful tour. You will spend about 1.5 hours under the earth. They even let you sample the river that flow through the cave system, so bring a bottle or cup down. There are over 80 steps and no handicapped access. Their gift shop has drinks and fudge available.

This is a must see. You don’t want to miss this amazing experience. You’ll be glad you went.

By Shelly K |

First off, I thought it would be claustrophobic but it’s not at all! A couple of tight spots but nothing major. This place is just so beautiful there aren’t enough words to truly describe it. Our tour guide was great, didn’t rush anyone so that the people that just need more time weren’t hurried along. Trust me, the caverns are worth every penny spent and then some. I must say that the fudge is awesome too!

AWE AND WONDER, TRULY AMAZED

By Brittany F |

We loved our experience. Our guide was AMAZING! Conway, definitely has a knack and understanding of the property! Be prepared to be in AWE and climb stairs! It’s intimidating at first, but overall a great experience!

Very nice trip

By Peyton H |

Tour guide was very informative and the tour was great! We had people from all walks of life there and it was interesting enough to keep us all entertained. Definitely recommend if you are adventurous!

I missed out all these years........

By Janet G |

This place was so cool. The history is really interesting. The people are friendly, kind, and very accommodating. Travis as the guide made it a very good visit. I had been visiting TN since I was a kid and I didn't know this place existed. Wow, you won't be disappointed.

Perfect 1 hr destination to visit

By aspurling4 |

Lizzie was our tour guide and was amazing and funny! We loved this beautiful cave. I can't believe how huge it was! Got some beautiful pictures and memories from a parent date we will never forget. PS - don't wear heels! That last like hike up the stairs is a little winding! Had a blast, want to bring the kids for a fieldtrip! Highly recommend!

Perfect outing!

By Linda V |

What a perfect outing to do with our kids and grandkids on our recent visit
Tour was interesting for all ages- it was nice and cool and a great way to beat the heat - we did this on our first day and started our Smoky Mountain trip off perfectly! The staff were terrific!

Cavern tour

By Joanne M |

Great and informative tour!! A lot of steps but worth it!! The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the caverns. A lot of fun well worth the admission price!

Amazing place!!

By Joshua B |

Wow!! Took my two kids (16 & 13) on a Friday morning. Very impressive and a beautiful cave. The guide was a pleasant and funny young man that made the experience even better. The place filled up quickly, but that didn't diminish the quality of the tour in any way.

Great place to explore

By Marna B |

Great place! Interesting history! Very neat! Great price point for the length of the tour and the souvenirs are reasonable. Would appreciate an investment in better bathroom facilities, they are subpar.

Love the underground river experience!

By Heddi S |

We have toured a fair number of caves and this one is a standout! The tour is interesting, and you finish with an underground waterfall...very cool. Our thanks to our guide Jill...she did an excellent job!
