The beautiful campus of UNC is something North Carolina can be proud of! This is the first public university in the country and has been going strong since the 1700's. The academic programs are among the finest in the country (the dental school and the school of Public health are ranked very high nationally) and UNC Healthcare is a nationally ranked hospital, with over 900 beds.
The campus itself is beautiful and you have a sense of history walking through the tree lined campus. Of course, sports fans are very happy due to our reputation for great basketball and football. A short walk over to Franklin St and you can delight in a number of restaurants, shops, and other places one would expect to find in a college town.
Traffic is always a challenge, so park your car and ride the bus for free, all around the city!
Chapel Hill is an oasis of intellectuals and artists and definitely Carolina Blue in an otherwise sadly red state.

The campus is absolutely beautiful. Brick buildings and lots of trees made walking here in the summer a little more bearable.

Gorgeous campus, plenty of green areas, there is even an arboretum inside the campus. There is also a good amount of nice classical buildings

Great and big university , located in the nice city of chapel hills city center, where a lot of nice restaurant.

One of the best colleges on the planer. Its what any student ever wants. Students , downtown , dorms

It's the oldest public university in the US, filled with history and legends. This 1 square mile campus is a good walk with much to see. Whether you take the tour or not...just look at the historic buildings or take a good luck drink from the Old Well, visiting Chapel Hill won't dissapoint.
Make sure you check out the museum and the Dean Dome to cap it off.

Good ol' Chapel Hill! What's not to love? It is a city of 50,000, but feels considerably larger and more engaged because of the university, its visiting fellows and lecturers, its fabulous arts, and of course there are the exciting sports team. The students are inquiring and purposeful. I am so proud to have raised my kids here (and one went to UNC). Come on a game day and the sea of Carolina Blue is a sight you will never forget.

Our daughter went to UNC and graduated in 2006. She was there for the NCAA Championship and her father and I watched all the games once the won the ACC (we are not sports people and never watch any sport on television.) It was so exciting when they won and how involved everyone was as they poured into the street. However, the very best part of UNC is the oldest public university in the nation, is a beautiful campus, and is premier in education! It is difficult to get into as a result of its outstanding reputation, and is so much more affordable than all of the private universities in NC. In fact their rival, Duke, was 4 times as much. She was able to graduate Magna Cum Laude without any school debt, by getting scholarships and working summers, with a very small amount of help from us.

Visited the Campus in January as my daughter is an exchange student at UNC Chapel Hill. Even in the winter it was beautiful! There is so much history and the buildings were just lovely. I enjoyed walking through the quads and it was great to see the 'Old Well' up close! We had lunch at the iconic Sutton's Drugstore-love the old fashioned decor and friendly service.

I grew up in Chapel Hill and graduated from the University along with my 4 siblings. In-state tuition is very reasonable, beautiful/safe campus with a responsive/caring administration with world class facilities and faculty. I would highly recommend a look if you plan on you, a spouse or other family member is looking for quality educational experience.

Really good campus with lots of options. Has a big school feel with a less dramatic affect. Many options on campus for dining and close to stores. Clean campus

You really need to get out and walk all around this campus to appreciate all its beauty. Simply gorgeous. Lots of room for walking and plenty of trees. Spring was particularly beautiful.

You'll enjoy any tour but it's beautiful and cool in the fall. Eat lunch or dinner at The Carolina Inn or go to Franklin Street and stop into the Carolina Coffee Shop.

The school is terrific, the tour...meh. It's a big public school so maybe we were expecting too much, but it was too big of a group and the student guide was uninformed so we split and finished on our own. A self guided walking tour would be my suggestion, and just stop and ask students questions along the way. Love the school, just don't bother with a canned and crowded tour.

Lovely campus and not much has changed on the main portion we walked through. Enjoyed the nostalgic moments.

Have lived here since 1969! Taught math in junior high/middle school here for many years! Very nice mixed population by race, money, education, etc.
Graduated from UNC-CH with both a BA and an MA. Home to top rated athletic teams every year. The VERY BEST basketball coach lived and died here, and is still sorely missed, Coach Dean Smith, so much more than just a coach.
Probably the most consistently highly rated public schools in NC.

If you want to visit a great public university, they UNC is it. It has everything a student could or would want in a great small town of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. We are in the ACC and Basketball here, is a community event involving anyone that is rooting for UNC and their rival. Love it love it love it. Plus they have a great hospital

UNC Chapel Hill has one of the nicest and most natural campus lay out. It's lushly green with traditional architectures -- very southern.

An outstanding public university that provides a very high quality education at an affordable price. The campus is attractive and the facilities excellent. As an aside, I volunteer my services on the Business School faculty.
Sports teams are generally highly competitive nationally.
In addition, the area is growing and provides substantial opportunities for graduates to remain.
The area and the University are also considered welcoming to retirees and provide culture, excellent medical facilities complementing a temparate climate.

Came from Texas for my daughters graduation. She loved her 4 years here and I am without a doubt sure she is prepared for graduate school in England!! Thanks to the dedication and hard work of the professors and staff. Well done all!!

I am probably biased as a NC native and the mother of a child attending UNC, but this campus is hard to beat. It's gorgeous, with beautiful architecture, lovely shaded areas to help escape the heat and such a welcoming community.

Just back from a visit to UNC Chapel Hill where my daughter is currently an exchange student. It was everything I expected it to be, and more! An absolutely stunning campus and I was fortunate to visit just as the cherry blossom has begun to bloom. It is an extremely walkable campus as others have said and the weather was gorgeous so we walked for hours. Also got to go to a baseball game and it was 'dog down' day so lots of people brought their very well groomed and incredibly well behaved dogs!
Walked down to Franklin Street and had an amazing lunch in Med Deli. All in all a wonderful visit and the campus is to be recommended as a great student location

The University offers many older and newer buildings with many tree lined walkways and a lot of great maps to guide your visit. Parking is hard to find so be sure to follow local parking signs for good spots at an affordable cost.

A walk from the Memorial Tower through the campus on a nice Spring Day is a great way to see this campus. The whole campus seemed alive with the Final 4 - as they all wore University blue.

UNC/CH, is not only the oldest State University in the United States, but also one of the Best and most expanded Medical Schools in the World~

We went to tour the campus and spend time since it was family weekend. A beautiful campus, traditions and character. Such an incredible experience to spend time with family and walk through this campus. We can't wait for the next visit!

Had a great time walking through this beautiful campus! It was. Easy to see why it is so beloved! I can't wait to return I bet it is amazing in the fall

This campus is absolutely beautiful and has so much rich history you can spend days here and not get to it all. Take the time to get to the visitor center and get a map, do some research and learn about one of, if not the, oldest university in the U.S.

If you come to Chapel Hill, you MUST visit the UNC campus. If it didn't exist, there'd be no Chapel Hill. UNC is America's oldest public university and has a reputation that continues to soar.

UNC is a very nice campus and the students, faculty, and alumni have much to be proud of. However, when you're an out of state family, they basically let you know in the first few minutes, that the likelihood of gaining admission is close to zero. They said this past year they had 41,000 total applicants, of which 28,000 were from out of state. They said only 800 students from out of state were accepted. Figure 300 of these kids are athletes, and you're talking about 500 kids, meaning from a state (NJ in our case) there's probably 25 kids getting in.
So, while it's a nice place to visit, it's a little off-putting and makes you question why you'd even bother going on the tour. The students giving the tour seemed like they were explaining to the North Carolina contingent why UNC is a great place to be, trying to convince them to stay in state.
This fell far below our expectations.

Stroll through campus and drink from the well- this oldest campus in the US is a beautiful campus with excellent outdoor and indoor amenities for a stroll, a run or watching sports- most are free or nominal fee (other than the more famous teams, of course).

It was a great opportunity to return to Chapel Hill and visit with college friends. We returned to places that were there during college days and experienced new venues, also. Still wonderful, after all those years!

I studied at UNC for one semester as an exchange student and the place is absolutely amazing. You'll not find a more beautiful campus.

Happened to be in the Raleigh/Durham area over the New Year's holiday. The Tarheel women were playing the University of Maine team, and being from Maine, we could not pass up the chance to go to the game. The experience was the best. Not only was the game really exciting (buzzer beating three pointer by UNC to win) everyone at the game was really friendly, helpful and accommodating. From helping us with parking to providing accommodations for my father who was unable to walk to our originally purchased seats. I feel that the folks working the venue were really one class act and those fans in attendance were very friendly and made the whole experience much more enjoyable for us........even though we lost :-)

As a Syracuse fan, it was a little hard to take my daughter on college visits to tobacco road. But I was very pleasantly surprised when we arrived in Chapel Hill at UNC. We arrived pretty early for our visit so we parked and explored the campus and the school store.
Our information session was very informative and the admissions officer who led the session was a very engaging speaker/presenter. He really painted a compelling picture of UNC.
The tour was good. We toured the undergrad academic portion of the campus. It was really beautiful and even has lots of trees which gives it a really outdoors feel. The only drawback was our guide was not the greatest speaker and spoke a bit fast. But overall, my daughter and I were both very impressed with our visit to UNC.

UNC @ Chapel Hill is a large, historic campus. Sprawling campus, beautiful buildings. We like looking at the Fraternity & Sorority Houses. The are huge and beautiful.

Most beautfiul campus i've seen. Grounds kept very nicely, friendly people all around. Nice location.

Campus is absolutely beautiful. Instructional area of campus filled with historic and newer red brick buildings. Stadium as open for practice, watched and took pictures. Student union and bookstore were open and filled with students.

We had a great visit, we went on a college tour and our tour guide Ryan was funny, knowledgeable and personable. He showed us all of the major sites around campus, shared personal experiences and answered questions.

UNC is one of the nation's most beautiful settings - historic and yet contemporary. Everyone we met was super friendly.

Always wanted to see the first public university in the US with all the academic and athletic accolades. The campus is large with lots of grassy areas. The buildings appear worn and the student union is no big deal. You could hardly call Chapel Hill a college town but there must be much to do on campus since the students appear spirited and happy.

OK, so I went to school there. I still think it is a BEAUTIFUL campus with brick and trees across the whole campus. Then there's easy walking access to the town which is definitely a college town. Parking is a problem so think about it before driving in. There is such a feel of the history on the campus and the proverbial OLD WELL. =) And when the Bell Tower chimes the hour, it's a glorious day to be in Carolina.

Agreat school with a great history. Famous for basketball, tradition and Franklin street for college town. Get good grades if you want to attend.

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is a beautiful university, with a large campus that has nearly everything one needs. It is the oldest state university in the US.
The university has many interesting places to visit, all of which are free for all to visit - the Morehead Planetarium (the first planetarium in the South), Ackland Art Museum (which has paintings by many famous artists), Arboretum, Wilson Library (which also has a small museum explaining the history of Raleigh and Chapel Hill), Old Well (the building that is in the UNC logo), Polk Place (the large garden surrounded by most of the university's important buildings), ... The university has some beatiful frat houses and student housing at Baity Hill and Mason farm is lovely. They have many gyms, the largest one at Fetzer. They have a huge football stadium - Kenan Stadium, and a basketball one too - Dean Smith Centre. There is a Baskteball Museum (it is noteworthy to remember that Michael Jordan was from this university). The university runs free shuttles around the campus and Franklin Street, which is full of restaurants and shops. The university Student Store is also great and has nearly everything one could need, from UNC clothes and merchandise, to study material, leisure reading, games, pharmacy, printing , ... The gardens and paths abound in beautiful birds and squirrels.
It is a really great place to visit. The staff is nice and welcoming.

Started campus visits with the kids. This is a beautiful campus with lots of activities. Large hospital onsight.

loved watching UNC football. Go Tarheels looking forward to the 2016-2017 season. The campus is beautiful and love Franklin St

Recently visited the UNC Chapel Hill campus. First impression was "wow" what a beautiful serene campus. Everywhere we walked everything we saw made us feel like it would be a great learning environment. Everyone we met was friendly and helpful. Football stadium was very nice. Everything seemed so close by yet the campus in very large. Looking forward to our next visit in the spring.

You could spend hours wandering this campus and be amazed at the architecture and landscape. Add to that the excellent education students receive to make this an exemplary university.

start at the Visitor's Center off Franklin Street by the planetarium. Pick up a map and wander the arboretum, the Pit, Library and the Well. Students are friendly and used to visitors. Try and find parking along Fraklin Sttreet becauyse the parking lots are near the athletic facilities and hospital and a bit of a hke.

Since my husband, son and I are alumni, I can't be objective about this school, but I think it's campus is beautiful!

You don’t have to be a student here to enjoy strolling or driving through this gorgeous campus. Hollywood chose this campus to film Dead Poets Society, because it’s such a beautiful classic campus.

We thoroughly enjoyed strolling the campus and visiting the Ackland, the old Library (OK, the exhibits were lame), the arboretum, and the Visitors center. And when the tour guide cancelled out of our 3 PM historic tour, Sarah was kind enough to find us and give us a great perspective of the Morehead family and the VC's portrait collection.

Was down in Chapel Hill on business and decided to take a look around the campus. This place is huge. There is no 'strolling' around like on some other town schools. This is a school you get in the car and drive around, or even a bike ride. Stadiums are beautiful, the grounds well kept, and the people were nice.
Maybe if I turned back time I'd go to this school, but eh, I like my life so why turn back time.

We walked through and drive through quite a bit if the campus. It's is a nice campus. Spread out and more if a city campus than a large quad type of campus. Beautiful athletic facilities. Not quite Ivy League though.

I'm not sure how you rate an university ...
Basketball at Dean Dome is awesome. Bookstore has lots of good stuff.
Visit the Pit.
My money and my daughter went there so I'm biased.

Go to the visitor center for the university that is located by the planetarium. They have organized as well as self guided tours. The office staff is very helpful. We were only in the area for a day and they helped us map out activities that were of interest to us and worth the visit.

A beautiful college campus steep in traditions, known for its academic quality. Old buildings have been modernized, but keep their old-style charm.

UNC is the oldest public university in the US. The campus is beautiful and filled with traditions. The center piece is the "old well". The Ackland Art Museum, Dean Dome, Medical School, Nursing School and UNC Hospitals and botanical garden are on campus. Adjacent is Franklin Street: a classic college town.

We visited the campus on a free guided tour and enjoyed learning about its interesting history and traditions.

Very nice area, campus is lovely and the surrounding town is very nice. Great places to eat and very friendly area.

I love taking walks throughout the campus of UNC-CH. It has excellent scenic views and tree filled, sidewalks everywhere you walk. A gorgeous place.

A short visit to my daughter who is fortunate to be here for one year of her British university master degree, what a great campus, really well laid out, helpful staff and volunteers, my only tip is use sat nav to get you near, then ditch it and ask.

This historic university is lovely to visit, and if you hang around, offers wonderful creative arts and intellectual stimulation. Outstanding graduate schools. Apply!

I've been lucky to visit UNC a number of times. The campus is beautiful, the school is world-renowned, the students are friendly. You can't beat a few days in Chapel Hill at UNC!

beautiful campus-nice students. we tried to go to the planetarium, but it was closed. eat across the street @ Sutton's Drug Store-great hot dogs and hamburgers.

I i have had lunch many many times and dinner only a few times at the Carolina Inn over many years. Recently the dining room and bar were renovated and switched around. The bar area seems much larger. The changes seem designed to attract a young crowd. The food is fine- some innovative dishes - but best for a business lunch or a drink in the evening and not for gracious dining.

Great campus to visit and walk around. The visit is best when students are in town but a Summer visit is very peaceful and showcases a great university. Be sure to visit the quadrangle, Old Well and the great basketball museum. The Ackland art gallery is small but has some nice exhibits. Franklin street in the middle of campus has some nice restaurants, but the Carolina Inn has a great restaurant with superb chef and menu. If you are looking for more of a casual experience, try Top of the Hill or La Rez.

What a buzz when on campus. Great school to visit but holy cow to get a t shirt at a decent price can't be done. Gift Shops are a rip off!

Took a walk around the campus following the map. What a great way to spend the morning and learning about the history.

Our daughter attended UNC and LOVED it! It is a big school with a small town feel. I would recommend it to anyone!

I have to say I am highly pleased and thankful for the extremely knowledgeable Doctors and nurses here. They have been very attentive to my care. I've gone to many doctors for a problem that they carefully and thoroughly tested until they found the cause and took all the necessary steps quickly to resolve the issue. If it were not for their diligence my fatal condition would have gone unrecognized. The bedside manner of them all were wonderful. Staff included. Great experience. Great people

Take a stroll from Franklin street thru campus by Old Well and to the Football stadium. Take a stop by the student union

Went to visit the basketball museum and the football stadium.Had a great view of the campus and just say a lot in just a few hours. Met some nice people that let us look around and enjoy ourselves. Will definitely be going back.

Very pretty and well groomed campus. Franklin street has many cool places to eat and hang out. I was pleasantly surprised.

I studied there from 2006-2010 and could not havee asked for a more ideal experience. The university´s reputation speaks for itself with academically rigorous curricula and professors who are leaders in their fields. I did read with a heavy heart about the recent athlete scandals, but it was not that way for the rest of us. On top of the quality education, student life is second-to-none. There is never a moment day or night when something isn´t going on. Whether in the pit, the union, one of the many quads or on Franklin Street, life was always filled with new and familiar faces and the vibe was contagious.

Enjoy a campus tour with a current student if possible - the lore is fun. Alternatively stroll with a campus map and ask questions as needed. The campus is beautiful with lots of garden spots, quads, arboretum, and blends of traditional and new construction to keep visuals interesting on the way.

My son attends the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The campus is one of the more beautiful college campuses you will come across. The school doesn't disappoint with the resources available to students, either. Definitely highly recommended.

Had a short half day visit to a friend who works here. He showed me around and learned about the nice history of the place. Lovely university with a cozy campus!

I attended UNC, and a trip to Chapel Hill is a great treat. So many new restaurants to discover and activities to do. Check out the Mediterranean Cafe in Carrboro, Spanky's on Franklin Street, and wander the campus, stopping by the Old Well. If you love Indian food, hit Vimala's Curryblossom café for some of the best around!

I am probably biased, but I think UNC is the best walking campus in the country. As both a student and alumnus, I have always loved walking through the quads, the arboretum, and the historic buildings. Take a tour of campus for sure, and explore a little by yourself as well. There is a lot to do!

My granddaughter and I visited the University of Chapel Hill this week. We enjoyed it so much. So beautiful!

I really enjoyed touring the UNC campus & would like to go back again sometime. The mix of old campus buildings & newer ones were a nice contrast, & the abundance of trees around campus gave it a very relaxed feel. Best of all were the people. I have traveled the country quite extensively & don't recall ever meeting so many genuinely nice people as I met at Chapel Hill.

There are many beautiful campuses across America. I've been privileged to be on many (even work on one), but nothing is quite like UNC. If you want to really feel like you've experienced the "poster place" for higher public education, don't miss a trip to Chapel Hill and several hours strolling the Carolina campus.

When my plans to tour singer James Taylor's home fell through, I wasn't sure what to do. But I did know I wanted to visit Gimgoul Castle. On my way I passed by the campus and decided to go park and explore.
UNC Chapel Hill is the oldest university in NC and one of the oldest in the country having opened it's door to students since 1793. And it is routinely rated as one of the top universities in the country. Every year students come from all over the world to study here. Notable alumni include Presdent James Polk, writer Thomas Wolfe, actor Andy Griffith, designer Alexander Julian, Caleb Bradham (he gave the world Pepsi), and of course Michael Jordan.
The campus covers over 700 acres and include a planetarium, a botanical garden, art museum, performing arts center, and an arboretum. Since the campus is old, it would stand to reason that many of the buildings here have been placed on the national registry. There are lots of green places to be found. Centuries old trees provide shade and relief from the summer sun. Be sure to look for Silent Sam and the old well. Look up and you will notice road signs here are the school's colors know as Carolina Blue. And visitors can stay at the noted Carolina Inn, which has been welcoming guests for over 90 years.
I am one of those people who still use a real camera, and this is a gorgeous place to photograph. It is easy to maneuver the campus. Even on this summer weekend, the campus was quite active. Plenty of people just out enjoying the campus and I over heard (and gladly snapped off group pictures for) people out on campus tours. I live close to the NC State campus which is like a ghost town now. It is a great place to just wander and see what kind of treasure you can find.
The campus is of course part of the Chapel Hill community and Franklin Street is where many students can be found shopping and dining. It is also a foodie town with many of its restaurants have been reviewed in major publications as well as on TV.
Now, if you are just driving here parking can be tricky. There is metered parking on Franklin Street and paid parking lots. So be careful where you park. But I was here over the 4th of July weekend so parking was free!!
no matter if your a hopeful student or just on town and looking for something to do..I am sure you will find plenty to enjoy on this stunning campus!

One of the most beautiful college campus’s that I have ever been to. At 225 years old it is a fascinating mix of old and new architecture. The football stadium is amazing. The Dean Dome and the basketball museum is a must see. A must see if you are in the area.

This University has such a rich history - there is so much to see, from an art museum, to outdoor and indoor theaters, the old well, and don't miss Wilson Library.

We visited the campus and found it lovely. The location is in downtown of Chapel Hill, the place looks safe during the day but at night we noticed many beggars and homeless. We didn't feel safe.

An afternoon on the quad or short stroll through the arboretum is a must during these sunny spring days. Places like the old well provide key photograph opportunities. There is lots to do and see on campus, as well as mainly places to have food or a coffee.

Beautiful campus, and landscaping. Visit in summer. Parking difficult but has free clean buses that easily go everywhere. Great student store.

Nice place to explore if you have the time, very relaxed and lots of lovely buildings and wildlife. Nice way to spend a few hours.

What a beautiful and historic campus. Walk the length of the quad, visit the Bell Tower, and don’t miss the Ackland Art Museum.

Beautiful! The day was rather hot but the campus tour was very informative. Great opportunity to learn about the programs. They show you a lock dorm and the
Student ambassador was very informative

While our children have graduated from college and thus we are done with campus visits, we happened to be in Chapel Hill for a wedding and had some free time. The University of North Carolina was just a short walk away from our hotel, so we decided to walk the campus. We’re glad we did. The campus is dotted with old growth trees that create needed shade (it was in the 90’s) and the architecture is classic university- mostly red brick. There are a couple of more beautiful campuses in the United States - UCLA, Stanford and the University of the South come to mind - but UNC holds its own. Nearby are a slew of restaurants and shops. This would be a pleasant place to spend four years. But beware - if you are afraid of spiders, there is a giant spider sculpture on the grounds. Fortunately, for those with arachnophobia, the sculpture is on loan.

Great college feel on game day! We tailgated in an open parking lot, had a short walk to an awesome football game.

What a beautiful campus, perfect for a Sunday Stroll. Lots of green areas and an easy walk. We had lunch in Downtown Chapel Hill and then walk around the campus.

This is a lovely campus with several busy roads through it. It is well laid out for freshman to be clustered in one area.Tour was run well and admissions speech was informative. The recent scandal with the faked classes for athletes was not addressed though they did mention the long history of an honors code several times. With 88% in state and only 12 % out of state, it did not offer the diversity of experience we were looking for in a university. We do know alumni who loved their experience there. We would look more seriously if North Carolinians.

Today we went to UNC and it has a beautiful campus. The buildings are all very nice and there are lots of trees and lawns. It is very hard to find parking on campus though. I highly recommend this campus!

Don't get me wrong, this is a beautiful campus but my gosh their shuttle system below par. You park far from the football stadium and have no shuttles, like most universities, to the stadium. Schools like this charge enough to go there so help the people supporting you! But beautiful campus.

The University of North Carolina is the most beautiful campus in the state. It's combination of historical buildings (like the Old Well and its oldest dorms) and new facilities (the Dean Dome, etc.) make this architecturally diverse and spectacular. Lots of shade trees make this a perfect place for an afternoon stroll.

I love the history of the campus, the look of the campus, and the feel of the campus. I have visited a lot of colleges over the years and this place felt historic, kept up, and on top of the mission to promote higher education.

Chapel Hill is my happy place. one great small town .Lots to do on on Franklin st. Great restaurants. If you are ever there check out the City Kitchen restaurant one fine fine place.Always go in the spring when all is in full blue

Beautiful town, terrific family owned restaurants. Delightful walking around the town. Friendly people who can suggest excellent restaurants.

We were here for a destination wedding and stayed in two hotels right amongst the campus. We had several good walks around. The spring blossoms were out and nice green grass. Everything seemed spotless. Many...many buildings with nice construction. Of course everyone was quite young. Some of the frat houses must have had some parties at night as we observed the red cup aftermath. I have no idea as to the quality of the campus experience here but only the look of the place.

Nice campus. Great to walk around and take in the beauty and the knowledge. Based on the way the alumni brag about Chapel Hill...I actually thought it would be a little more impressive. Nice place.

I couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather to take a guided walking tour of The Arboretum with my friend Terry. Brought back fond memories of my time at Howell Hall when the J School was there. Spring is my favorite season in Chapel Hill and this was definitely a slice of “Southern Heaven”!

Unc chapel hill is a special place. Beautiful school, awesome credentials and reputation. The town is always always a welcoming, hospitable and HAPPY place!

It's nice to drive about the campus to pick favorite places to take a stroll. Personal favorites are the Kenan-Flagler Business School and the off-campus Rizzo Executive Education Center.

This is a beautiful campus! Great place for a walk. So much amazing architecture too! I only spent an hour there, but you could be there much longer!

As a student just walking across this inspirational campus was enough encourage this B student to work for As.
The student body is from all parts of the state, the country, and the world. Learning skills and how to work together for a better world.

This is such a beautiful campus, and with so much history. As big as this university is, the campus has a hometown feel with a laid-back elegance any North Carolinian can be proud of. Be sure to see the Morehead Planetarium, it is marvelous. And don't forget to stop at the Old Well. It is a symbol of UNC, and every piece of UNC licensed sports apparel incorporates artwork depicting the Old Well in its logo. And legend has it that if you take a drink from its water fountain you will have a 4.0 QPA or good luck or whatever good luck thing you are wishing for.

I'd forgotten how beautiful and historic this campus is! Despite the cold, rainy weather, we loved our tour of campus and hope to return as parents of a student at UNC!

Bin 54 good choice for dinner. Bob's is a fun late night, loud college bar. Kenan Stadium and the Dean Dome - and the Beta House - made for a fun weekend!

Whether you are heading to college or just love college sports and traditions the students partake in, it is well worth a visit. We took a tour and got an amazing amount of history.

Spend some time walking around campus, it is unique and pretty. Trees and trails are around campus that are very pretty and fun to explore also. We went during the summer, so campus was a little dead, but it was definitely worth the visit!

What a great experience! UNC is a great campus with a rich history. Would highly recommend the guided tour as well as walking around on your own. Beautiful campus.

You’ll enjoy walking around the quaint campus of UNC when school is not in session (breaks, weekends) so you can find parking. Spring is a beautiful time to go.

We were traveling through the area and wanted to stop by the campus and see the lore of UNC. As a kid growing up, I always wanted to see the fabric of the area and the great basketball program they have. I followed Michael Jordan growing up so this place was a real treat. Great atmosphere for any family wanting to send their children to this college.

We enjoyed walking through this beautiful campus. There is so much to see; we saw just a little bit. Hope we can return at some point!

This is a huge campus with lots to see. From the Old Well to the Bell Tower, the Dean Dome, Kenan Stadium, a wonderful Student Book Store, you can easily spend an entire day walking around here. It is also an outstanding academic institution. If you're in the RDU area, this is a must see.

Absolutely beautiful university! The cobblestone walkways, old greenery, and beautiful gardens exemplify southern charm at its best! We stayed at the Carolina Inn which allowed us quick access to walk about the campus and explore. We especially loved seeing the old well and the arboretum. Wonderful visit!

I love my graduate school campus. Seriously, I have to walk through it constantly, and I STILL insist that any out-of-towners come for a walking tour to see the gorgeous school buildings and greenspaces. It's easily walkable, and you can hop over to Franklin Street for tasty drinks and food, just as all the locals do.

It was hot, but beautiful. It's a lovely, clean campus and full of school spirit. There is a lot of construction going on, which happens in the summer.

Awesome Campus... Thats what I would summarise my visit to UNC. Best campus to Grow & Learn to be Future Ready. All the Best for the Students here for your academic Days. Enjoy every moments of it>

It was incredible to see all the buildings and how well they are kept up for their age. So much history to see and take in. Loved the old well and the clock tower.

Always good 2 feel the college experience again. Students walking 2 class or waiting on busses bring back fond memories. Plus it's ACC Tourney-Time! Electric! Be better if the games were back here in NC. Stupid McCrory & his HB2 bill!! SMH

Beautiful campus. Check out the old well and find the gargoyles. Easy to get in the stadium. See the bell tower on the way in! Had a great time and looking forward to coming back.

I have visited this campus many times over many years. I still find it to be absolutely lovely, friendly and inviting.

UNC seems like an unbelievable place. I really want to there. I went on a campus tour and immediately feel in love. The student life is very enthusiastic and their are always events and fun things happening around campus. The campus is big, but every building has an importance. The layout is great and it would be a dream come true to be able to attend this wonderful University.

For all you hear about UNC Chapel Hill or "Carolina" as the locals call it, the town is smaller and appears friendly enough. Some beautiful old and newer homes around the campus. Great green spaces and loads of trees and side walks all around.
Great libraries, architecture and history.
So many fine students have walked around this place and it was fun to think about that too.
Franklin Street is a business street known well to locals. Beware of being there at night though. We were warned about this, a few times.
FYI, Chapel Hill has my favorite kitchen supply store on the east coast - Southern Seasons. You can shop there online if you can't visit. I always shop here for great simple and unique gifts. The variety and level of desserts, well, they are over the top!

Beatiful campus -- try to get there prior to tour, no way you can get to see entire campus on Undergraduate experience. Very large, but beautiful. Super hot in summer, prepare for that!

One of the prettiest college campus' in the US if you ask me. Also happens to be one of the very best public universities in the nation as well. A lot of people say, it's an Ivy League education with a public school tuition (if in state that is).
I have family members who graduated from UNC Chapel Hill so I've visited quite often and have loved it each and every single time. I can tell you from a first hand experience that the professors were amazing & the education that my loved ones received there was second to none.
Even if you aren't looking at UNC Chapel Hill for educational purposes, the campus is well worth a look. Just gorgeous especially in the fall once the leaves have turned.
Of course, their team sports are worth a trip to come watch too. Just make sure you book your room well in advance of any games and good luck during basketball season for sure.

This campus and town are stunningly beautiful. Rich in culture, history and hospitality. My daughter fell in love and drank water from the famous well hoping it brings her luck in getting in.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is nothing but spectacular! It's a home away from home. It's an absolutely stunning campus-the quads are beautiful in the fall and spring! Their athletic facilities are second to none. They have so many hidden gems-the arboretum , play makers theater, forest theater!
The most beautiful campus and town. The people are beyond warn, friendly and welcoming to all! Franklin street is a priceless gem! Something for everyone! Shops, restaurants, bars!
I can't imagine a better college town and campus!

We visited the campus . Went shopping. Went to student store. Love campus and it is very beautiful. Family ordinated safe and friendly students and helpful.

The two old quadrangles are lovely, especially in the spring, when the flowering trees are in bloom. They are encircled by older buildings, the oldest from the 1790s. This was the historic nucleus of UNC before the 1960s or so, and it has been well preserved. Wander away from this area, though, and you quickly encounter some fairly ghastly architecture from the last 50 years (although, to be fair, some of the most recent are well-done). This once-proud university is in the process of becoming a generic Southern state U in many respects (not just architectural), but whatever its future, its history is worth a look-in.

I have visited quite a few college campuses in the last 18 months and this one is perfection. It looks like something out of a college fairytale. You can walk from one end to the other in about 25 minutes and it is truly glorious.

My Wife and I were visiting her 94 year old Father in Durham. He suggested we stay at the Carolina Inn directly on the campus of UNC. We were delighted in the sheer magnitude and architecture of the different buildings. It was fascinating to learn the history of each. One of the most beaytiful campuses we've seen traveling our Country.

Wonderful place to visit. Easy to get around. Beautiful campus. Good facilities for the learning sessions. Friendly people.

The campus is beautiful, featuring a lot of trees, and downtown is literally around the corner! Local folks are very nice .
Didn't get to do the tour though, due to the lack of help of people at the office.

My son bleeds Carolina blue. So naturally we planned the entire first leg of our family road trip around stopping by UNC so he could see the school and hit up the bookstore. From the moment he got his picture taken at the Old Well to putting on his new UNC shirt right out of the bag, he was the happiest kid in the world! The campus is beautiful, walkable, and even on a Sunday in the summer there was a lot to see. If you haven't been and are passing through town, I highly recommend stopping by. Now I have to figure out how to get this kid basketball tickets... 😜

We live 5 minutes from this beautiful campus. We always take our guests on a walking tour of the campus highlighting favorite campus attractions like the bell tower and the old well. Great place to just sit and relax and then head down to Franklin Street to enjoy the great restaurants

Can't expect any better than this place for Masters. My cousin did half way through the degree already and heard only great things about this school and I just applied for admission in the Business Administration. Can't wait to get the degree. The ambience is so nice. Franklin Street is the icon for the school.

We stopped in Chapel Hill on our way to Hilton Head to get a college visit in. The campus is very large and beautiful. The Dean Smith arena and the baseball field are beautiful

We came to UNC for a football game and walked through campus and drove through another section the second day. The tree lined streets and walks add charm to the mix of older and somewhat newer buildings. The gentle hills add to the beauty, as well.

With a lot of history and tradition, the school engenders a radically devoted following in its students. From the outside this seems like it would be difficult for students outside the area (82% NC / 18% out of state) and particularly those not devoted to basketball to fit in. However, those that do fit in likely do well with networking and contacts after graduation.

I went to and worked at UNC-Chapel Hill. This is a beautiful campus that has a ton of events going on all year long.

UNC is a great school, beautiful campus and excellent research and medical environment. When we have visitors with teens we have always been asked to take them for visiting the UNC and Duke campuses. Both beautiful but different in many ways. If you plans a visiti to UNC , I suggest planning a walk at the Franklin street for a nice lunch or dinner. Soooo many local favorites there to choose from!!

Very informative and enjoyable. Lots of history included and a beautiful campus!
We walked outside on a gorgeous day. I would take it again.

We stopped through here on a road trip and had a great few hours there. The people we encountered (summer so not many students) were very friendly. The campus is beautiful and the college town feel was great. We thoroughly enjoyed the basketball museum over by the Dean Dome. Definitely worth the visit. Would like to spend a little more time there someday.

We went to the information session and tour for prospective undergraduate students. The talk was polished and engaging. Our tour was pretty good covering most of the usual topics.

Not only is this University beautiful, but there are lots of history. A great tourist attraction! Wear comfortable shoes and plan on walking much for the best sights!

Went down to UNC with my son to see the school. Great historic and beautiful campus . Well preserved and lovingly taken care of even tough it is quite expansive. Even the newer buildings blend in and fit right in to the overall design. The area around the quad is [particularly interesting and historic (dating back to the early 19th century). One of the finest campuses around.

I am a UNC alumni so, I am obviously bias. I love the school, love the small college town. Love the basketball especially when we beat Duke, one light intersection in Chapel Hill downtown would be erupted, closed down, 20-30 thousands would celebrate the victory over Duke or a national Championship

Saw a show that was great & had a Carolina blue ceiling in the theatre. Great acoustics. Poor parking.

If you are anywhere near Chapel Hill, you owe it to yourself to visit the UNC campus and nearby Franklin Street. Be prepared to walk and it is a bit hilly, but the entire campus is truly beautiful.

Beautiful campus with great shops and restaurants! From fast food to fine dining. It’s a really cool little campus!

Visited this campus for an admission interview. This school has a great heritage and strong unity amongst students. Needless to say the campus is awesome and is one of the best campuses I have visited.

UNC -Chapel Hill is one of the oldest state sponsored universities in US. It is also frequently cited as being one of the top 5 public universities. The grounds are pristine and you might actually think you are on an Ivy League Campus. Well worth taking a couple of hours to tour.

UNC has a charm factor that one doesn't find at every university. It's worth taking time to walk about, sit by a fountain, and just take in the beautiful grounds. While it might not come up to the beauty of UVA, it is a great place to visit.

This campus is HUGE! We just got back form touring NC colleges and this one is on the top of the list. There are many opportunities. The tour guide was AWESOME...she was a student of course. The only thing that I thought needed improvement was the bookstore.

UNC is old school charm with cutting edge academics. The athletics are internationally recognized as some of the best. Chapel Hill is the perfect college town.

We walked around the campus on saturday when there was not a home game. The campus has lots of open space filled with trees and monuments. Some interesting sites to find.

UNC has a classically beautiful campus with a great quad of green and a mix of historic-looking and new buildings. I was just visiting this famous basketball school as a tourist and enjoyed myself. The campus center and school store were bustling. Student activism was alive and well. Adjacent to the university is a strip of shops, restaurants, and even a Target so you can take care of most of your needs without driving.

I had a great time walking around UNC and was thrilled to find out that the arena was open for visitors M-F. Made my day.

When we visited Wilson library, got a private tour of the Southern Folklore section. The Basketball Museum is a must - see Michael Jordan's letters from UNC and Duke when he was still in high school. The Bell Tower is a handsome memorial to the Patterson and Morehead families.

always a treat to stroll through the campus. it is hot in the summer, so dress accordingly. the Old Well never disappoints.

Parking is a hassle in the University neighborhood, but visiting the campus is worth the hassle. After circling around and exiting one parking lot after seeing a sign "student parking only," I found parking in a lot with parking machines, on the corner of East Rosemary St and North Columbia St. This lot was a very short walk from the three attractions I will mention next, all of which belong to the University.
My favorite attraction was the Ackland Museum, a great smaller museum. My second favorite was Coker Arboretum. My least favorite was Morehead Planetarium. Even if you skip the planetarium, it's worth a visit to the sundial in their parking lot. Note: Coker Arboretum and Morehead Planetarium are next door to each other, and Ackland Museum is 2 or 3 blocks away and around the corner.

Wonderful top-notch challenging education, interesting mix of students and professors, gorgeous nostalgic campus, pumped sporting events, and fun-filled social life in a cool college town -- what more could anyone want?
(Still the same great place two generations in!)

UNC is situated in the middle of Chapel Hill and is pretty much the focal point of the town. Athletics and the Greek system appear to be strong influences in student life on campus. Walking around, one notices many medical students and the ethnically diverse student body. It's a beautiful campus.

The first public university in the U.S. to offer classes (1793) located in a picturesque village in central North Carolina.

I was so excited to finally be able to see in person this wonderful campus! It looked amazing with students everywhere trying to get settled for the new year starting. I have rooted for the Tarheels for most of my life, so almost 50 years!

This is a beautiful campus with gorgeous trees. The arboretum is a work of art. It's fun to visit the various athletic venues and the Planetarium has fun shows for all ages!

I graduated in 1972 from UNC-CH. Dean Smith was our basketball coach. Chapel Hill was a lot smaller. UNC owned the water company, the power company, and the telephone company. A lot has changed, but I still love Chapel Hill.

Very pretty, spread out campus rich in history. Cute street with stores and restaurants. Neat statues. Visitors center and planetarium there too.

I went to graduate school here and got a stellar education that catapulted me into many fine rewarding jobs.

My excursion to the University of North Carolina (UNC) campus proved to be an exceptionally enlightening and intellectually invigorating expedition. Upon ingress into the hallowed precincts of this venerable institution, I found myself immersed in a veritable cornucopia of erudition and scholastic excellence. The architectural splendor adorning its sprawling expanse, replete with august edifices and verdant arboreal enclaves, evoked a profound sense of reverence and admiration.
Traversing the labyrinthine byways of academic edifices, Cherry Wonderdog encountered a plethora of erudite pedagogues and venerable scholars, whose didactic prowess was matched only by their innate intellectual acuity. Despite the occasional vicissitudes intrinsic to such an immersive educational milieu, the conviviality amongst peers and the symbiotic rapport with faculty fostered an ambiance conducive to erudition and personal refinement. My sojourn amidst the cloisters of UNC's campus stands as a seminal testament to the indomitable spirit of intellectual inquiry and the inexorable pursuit of academic excellence.

OMG it is a beautiful campus !!
I am so sorry I didn't travel to NC when I was thinking about college.
They have a large campus and offer many different buildings from Drama to Science labs.
This school is on of the nice and can compete with the IVY league schools.
I hope my daughter chose to goto NC because I would love to move south and have here go to UNC.

I had the chance to walk around UNC and downtown Franklin street. The downtown area is loaded with restaurants and stores. I even bought some UNC shirts. The wooded campus was packed with students. Definitely worth a trip if in the area.

An amazing campus and fantastic surrounding area. We loved our tour and most importantly our daughter thought UNC was great.

This is a great campus - wear your sneakers! Really enjoyed walking around and seeing all of the great views.

Very nice campus. You can walk around at anytime and have fun. Plenty of options to eat or drink. We liked it.

My daughter and I did the UNC college tour in June 2018. We had a presentation followed by a walking tour. I loved the brick sidewalks and the architecture of the campus.

UNC is an excellent place to visit with anyone from anywhere. You will not run out of things to do or visit. Driving or walking the campus is First Class!

Our daughter graduated in the class of 2013 as the first field hockey athlete from Ireland. We revisited to attend the wedding of one of her team colleagues. UNC still has all it's magic. It is truly the "Southern Part of Heaven".

It was fund to spend a whole day in Franklin Street. You get everything in this street. From Mexican to Thai, from Continental to Indoasian food, you name it & there is a place.

Free and what's not to love about seeing Michael Jordan history memorabilia and this first glass honor to past alumni of basketball!

Walkable campus with cute down town. Dean Smith Stadium, Playmakers Theater, Planetarium are worth seeing during the visit. Be sure to be dressed in UNC colors when attending any sporting event! Campus is conveniently located to downtown - Franklin Street- with restaurants, bars, Target, Walgreens and other convenient shopping.

The campus is beautiful and well laid out for walking at driving. The proximity to restaurants, shops, and activities as well as multiple bus stops allows student and employees to enjoy all that chapel hill to offer.

I walked around the campus of the University of North Carolina for a couple of hours in June 2021. It is a beautiful campus with very interesting architecture. I enjoyed seeing from the outside the Bell Tower, the Wilson Library, Moorhead Planetarium, the Old Well and other buildings and taking some photos. The architecture with Greek columns on some buildings was very interesting. It was not very busy because school was out for the summer. My advice during the summer would be to stick to the campus as Franklin Street (the main street with shops and restaurants near the campus) had some annoying homeless people on it and I felt uncomfortable. Perhaps it is different during the school year. In summary, I really enjoyed my walk around campus for a couple of hours. My only disappointment was that the Wilson Library was closed due to COVID19 as I had wanted to go inside and view some old book collections.

We enjoyed visiting the campus. It was a welcoming town and we loved it! We especially loved the easy access to so many restaurants.

Beautiful campus, very reasonable tuition. Surrounding town is very accommodating to students also. If you are planning to apply have a good strategy and understanding of what you'd like to study. Lot of options here but not all-inclusive (ex no Engineering school).

A great University, to attend and to visit on special occasions such as football and basketball games. My ancestor was in the first class to graduate, 1798, so we have a long tradition.

In addition to being one of the finest public universities (and oldest) in the U.S., the expansive campus is beautiful. There is much to see and do with museums, a planetarium, historic structures, etc. Nice to walk around campus and pop onto Franklin Street to people watch or grab a bite to eat. A tour of UNC and Chapel Hill are part of what sealed the deal on my moving here 27 years ago.

a little more urban, with more driving, parking and space challenges than i thought.
still pleasant, and a future trip may open some secrets about why its so iconic!

When school's not in session, probably the easiest place to park for a campus walk is on Country Club Road near the Admissions Office. From there you can easily stroll to the Forest Theater, Wilson and Davis Libraries, The Student Stores, the main academic campus core, the Old Well, and the Ackland Art Museum, which is also close to Franklin Street bars and restaurants.

This is a walkable campus and it is beautiful. If possible, go to admissions and do the tour. All of the students were helpful when we asked for directions.

I am gluten intolerant and was given info on places to eat, not only restaurants but also grocery stores that I could purchase and keep food in my room, the refrigerator really came in handy. Thanks Charles, Tony and Tamika

I took my grandson to the basketball camp at the end of June, 2015. He stayed in the dorm and i stayed in town. Chapel Hill is beautiful as is the campus. A very large construction project was underway on the campus and had to detour several times but still worth the time and effort to visit. Attended First Methodist Church downtown and it was a lovely service. Franklin Street is very nice with lots of shopping and eating places.

The brick layout of the sidewalk helps maintain the historical feel of this campus. It is easy to walk around and close to shops and restaurants in downtown. Most of the older buildings are on the north side of campus while the south side houses the medical school and hospital. The Carolina Inn is located towards the middle of campus and is also worth a visit.

We were so impressed with this campus. Everyone is so welcoming and the campus is beautiful! This was our second visit and we liked it even better than our first visit!

We took a driving tour of UNC after dinner. Beautiful campus that blends old and new sections well. The alumni are doing an excellent job supporting their school because it is growing by leaps and bounds. Athletic area is also top notch.

Visiting college campuses is one of my favorite things to do. While in the research triangle, visiting UNC Chapel Hill was a no brainer. The campus was gorgeous and made for a lovely evening stroll. The book store is awesome as well. I know this university is top notch for academics too. Make sure to visit.

For the most part we did enjoy the campus, but would really didn't like the spider on on campus, that was really weird, seemed like a lot of construction going on there.

This is our first trip to UNC Chapel Hill and it did not disappoint! We loved strolling through the historical part of campus. Be sure to check out the old well house, the oldest building on campus, the bell tower, and the athletic venues. We were impressed that the athletic arenas had guest service hosts on site to answer our questions and that the buildings were all open during normal business hours to everyone. We visited the old Carmichael arena where Michael Jordan played and also the newer Dean Smith arena. Both have a great deal of history, but you'll also want to visit the basketball museum to get the full picture of how important athletics (and their history) are to this institution. Go Tarheels!

We have attended at least a half dozen college tours this year. UNC-CH stood out for its lack of attention to the attendees - giving the impression we were a bother and they really didn't care if our student applied or not. It started with parking - they make you pay to park, whereas the cost of parking was covered by other schools. Then the big group presentation was pretty good, followed by sending you out on a 95 degree day for a 1-hour walking tour - and no bottled water available. Instead, you were invited to pour about 6 oz of water in a small plastic cup. Bottled water and even snacks were provided at other universities. The tour itself consisted of a fair amount of walking while admiring buildings - but not going inside. We saw one "mock up" residence room that was a converted janitor's closet accessed from the outside of the dorm. So we could not see how access is controlled, what the halls and lobby are like, bathrooms and amenities inside, etc. We went in one inconsequential classroom building to see a standard classroom for about 60 students. We spent the largest part of the tour - at least 15 minutes - standing around and admiring the "Old Well". Then we saw (again) the outside of the library, the outside of a dining hall, and finally at the end we walked through a corner of the student union. When I asked 2 different students why they chose Chapel Hill and what they like about it, they both said "I just always knew I wanted to go here my whole life, and I really like it." Not very enlightening. On the way to the car, we stepped into what looked like a dining hall to grab a beverage and use the restroom, and the stench of sewage was so bad we turned around and left.
Follow up to the campus visit was similarly lacking - no solicitation for feedback, no mailings, no regular emails touting the University. We received one postcard stressing the early admission deadline of Oct 15th - arriving ON Oct 15th.
The University is highly rated and provides a great education. So why do they do a crummy tour? I guess because they can.

World-class university. First and oldest public university in the United States. Easy to walk around and see. Don't miss the bell tower, Old Well, Ackland Art Museum, and Morehead Planetarium. Also see arboretum on campus. Franklin Street has restaurants and bars.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has a lot of heritage, you can see that from the lovely grounds and wonderful buildings smack in the centre of the city. They are also very much part of the fabric of the town, with fraternity and sorority houses all around. To get to know the University they organize nice activities, such as the Hackathon end October (hacknc).

Love Love Love the people here! Daniel in the visitors center is so informative and truly a genuine guy. He really took time to share with us about the university and the experience of admission. It was super helpful for my son to hear. I'm truly grateful. We came during spring break so the campus was pretty quiet except the other tourists. The visitors center is open from 9-5 weekdays and that's where you can start your tour. They have self-guided tours available if you miss a live one. Parking up there is $1.50/hour. Walking the campus took us about 2.5 hours some if which was spent in the student store. We walked all the way down to the Dean Smith Center and the basketball museum. The museum is free and closes at 4. It's about a mile walk down the hill from the visitors center.

Such a wonderful University steeped in history. Brilliant campus with great students and staff - this is a great university.

Many things to see and do in Chapel Hill. If plants are your thing don't miss the Botanical Gardens. Morehead Planetarium, and the entire UNC campus are also worth seeing!

UNC Chapel Hill is a beautiful campus in both aesthetics and education. If you have kids that would like to attend, they will get the full college experience . Franklin Street and Carrboro are in walking distance, and is very popular. The area has grown immensely since we moved there, with many new condo's downtown, restaurants, even a brand new Target on the campus area, but it is still a good campus.

Great place to visit. Beautiful campus with old historic buildings dating back to the 1800’s, famous sports facilities, theatre and art centers, and a first class planetarium. A perfect spot for walking and jogging.

I really enjoyed walking around campus and town. It has a small town feel and just beautiful buildings and grounds to enjoy. Parking was simple enough and not expensive, which was nice. Weather was perfect for walking around. Really enjoyed the experience and having my picture taken in some of the well known areas of campus.

That is a school that I would have loved to attend. The campus is huge. The hotel on campus is worth the money. Four star all the way.

We always enjoy just walking around the campus enjoying the historic buildings and grounds. The bookstore has every possible UNC piece of clothing ..... and more. Plan on two hours to be able to take most of it in. Also save some time to visit Franklin Street!

A fine institution representative of the old world south... and yet world class and current with a variety of academic programs

1st off Im a UNC fan. The museum was great not just for UNC fans but for college basketball fans. If you are there for a game or close by check it out.

A walk on the UNC campus is a must do for any Chapel Hill visitor. Unlike a near-by College campus, this one has real old buildings, not fake old buildings. You can tour the campus and tell what century different buildings were constructed by the architecture. !8th, 19th, 20th Centuries are all well represented. For fake Gothic, go a few miles east.

As a third generation attendee, I am very proud to say my children are the fourth generation to attend. It is outstanding!

My son just finished his freshman year. He and my family have found another home. We love being on campus. Can't wait for UNC football in the fall.

Visiting my nephew, who works on the UNC campus, was very pleasant, despite the coming hurricane which blew through two days later, downing a gorgeous old tree near the stately library. The campus, located in a trendy, downtown area, is full of beautiful older buildings, surrounded by magnificent trees which can best be described as having southern ivy-league charm. A little New England, a little Charleston.. Some great photo ops, especially with the changing leaves. More modern buildings and stadiums skirt the older common, where the library as well as a lovely white gazebo are located. Worth an afternoon stroll. Take an hour or more and stop at the student union for some snacks or coffee. Parking garages several blocks from campus are cheap and convenient, as on-street parking is difficult.

Just strolled around, soakiing in the vibes. Lovely place on a great spring day. Makes me ready to return to school. Lots of good spits for reading, people watching, having a coffee.

I work here but still enjoy going through the campus every day. it gets crowded between classes but is quite on the weekend mornings. Battle park is nice to check out and of course, you have the bell tower and the old well and the football stadium which is open most days.

Large campus, drove around and parked several times to see major areas, psychology building was a disappointment and needed TLC, other buildings and facilities were top-notch, excellent bookstore experience

UNC is simply beautiful and I have visited numerous universities when my children were looking at undergraduate colleges (and a few just to check out the architecture). My daughter will be starting a PhD program there this fall, so we didn't look at undergraduate housing, but toured the rest of campus (and still missed things). My favorite building was probably the Wilson Library which has interesting collections, including a room devoted to the Sir Walter Raleigh (furniture from the 17th and 18th centuries), and the quiet reading room. Even if you don't have a student attending, it is a school I would definitely tour. (there really needs to be another category for "what sort of visit was this?" since I was there with my adult daughter)

I'm probably not the most impartial reviewer for this since I went to school here but I love the beautiful buildings and grounds. It's nice that when you step foot on campus it really feels like you're on a campus and not in the middle of a city. Loved strolling around with the family.

Oldest public university in the USA and proud of it. Lovely tree covered, walkable campus with historic buildings.

Chapel Hill is full of undeniable school spirit. The exterior of the campus is amazing. It is beautiful. The interior of all of the buildings leaves a bit to be desired and was very disappointing. The Student Union Center, Library, Fitness center, and academic buildings are all very outdated.

Family visit but older daughter (not teens). Went on self guided tour of campus in preparation for my daughter entering grad school in August. The campus is lovely and easy to get around on. The people we met were all very friendly. I am looking forward to attending activities with my daughter and she is excited to be going to school there. Many of the schools/depts are rated in the top 10 in the country. Chapel Hill / Carrboro nice towns, free buses!!!

Campus tour was filled with beautiful landscape and plenty of history.
Don't forget to see and take a photo at the Old Well, which is the symbol of UNC Chapel Hill.

I loved going to this campus! It was beautiful. I had to go to the Dean Smith Center for the historical aspect of it. If in the area...GO!

Awesome place to walk around. The campus is filled with historical landmarks and is just beautiful. Close to downtown so it's easy to shop, eat and see the campus. Gotta get a picture by the Old Well!

It's always a joy to walk the grounds of Chapel Hill. The trees are magnificent, the squirrels are delightful, and the students are very inspiring.

So much history!! The campus, the area is beautiful. This place is worth visiting even if your not going to school here.

Visiting Chapel Hill you can understand why the sky is Carolina blue. Wonderful restaurants. Walking through the campus you can feel the years of education around you. A growing. City.

The campus was large and hilly. Me and my family only had time to drive through and visit the football and basketball stadiums, but it was a very nice campus.

If you want to be a college student, UNC is the place! Great computer science department and Biology Department. It is an open campus which I enjoyed very much. Just walk to Franklin Street and have access to restaurants, coffee shops...etc

The college did a wonderful job of introducing all of the staff in the music department and allowing the prospective students to spend the day in classes, seminars and tours. Each student was given an opportunity for a mini-lesson with one of the voice faculty. A great program, beautiful campus and really nice town.

What’s to say? The University of North Carolina is a beautiful wooded campus with rolling hills. New construction is made to look like the old which makes the structures all look uniform. The student union store is a model for other major educational institutions to follow, the Michael Jordan apparel section is ridiculous! We wanted to see the Basketball Museum, however, it is closed for remodeling until September 25.

Confusion abound, my daughter just graduated from North Carolina School of Science and Math high School in Durham and is starting college at Chapel Hill. With her room not being assigned until last week it made planning her move in difficult and needless to say my daughter a nervous wreck. The other ding is there billing which relies on you inputting the amount you owe per semester, being a college you would think they would simplify there site with drop down sections for ease of use beautiful campus.
These are minor things but they seem to be a little disorganized

I had a bachelor's degree in music from another university, and all of my required prerequisites from a local community college when I started nursing school at UNC School of Nursing at age 40. I attended the 2-year second-bachelor's degree program, and I finished when I was 42. As of this day in November 2016, I have been an RN for 9 years. I started off in acute care and ended up in hospice at a (different) local teaching hospital, from which I anticipate I will retire someday. Like every highly-regarded, complex, long-term educational program, most of it was drudgery, some of it was exhilarating, but on the whole, it has been life-changing for me and my family, financially and otherwise. I love being a nurse-- it's challenging and rewarding, but only because it's what I wanted in the first place. It's certainly not right for everybody. Don't do it because you want more money-- you'll be an awful nurse and you'll hate it. Acceptance is competitive. Everyone said I wouldn't get into nursing school at all, let alone UNC, but I did, so tune that sh** out. Getting through it was a strain, since I was raising my child at the same time and the coursework is challenging. The instructors have high standards and they have zero interest in your personal problems. You will need to do the work. Very appropriately, their singleminded focus is that after you graduate, you should take great care of patients. After about the first year of real-life nursing was over, being a nurse has ever after been a lot easier than attending UNC SON. Are you good at writing? Do you like to write research papers? If the answer is yes, that's another vote in favor of attending UNC SON. If not, you may find it difficult to get in, and very difficult to succeed there if you do. I feel proud to be a UNC SON graduate-- it's a very highly regarded nursing school and will earn you respect. If your heart leads you to be a nurse, it's a good place to learn the basics. May your dreams come true.

Beautiful historic campus, strong academics and great athletics. Go Heels. University is well integrated with the Town of Chapel Hill - a little slice of heaven, For a small community, great foody options from Al's burger Shack to Lantern 5* dining. Couple hours to the beach and a couple to the mountains. What more could you want. I'm and alumni of the graduate school and have retired here. Not much has changed over the last 30 years - only got better.

For complete transparency, I have travelled to UNC multiple times for collegiate competition AGAINST Uncle. However, it is a beautiful, friendly, accessible campus. It is beautifully kept and it is near food, entertainment, bookstores, unique shops...and the climate...wow!

Nice campus. Love how the football stadium is surrounded by trees. Lively and lovely, there appears to always be something going on. Lots of mature trees. Campus is kept very clean.

Stopped by to visit and walk around the campus. Beautiful campus friendly students. Very nice and large campus store for UNC stuff. Visited click tower and cemetery on the edge of the campus.

This is a pretty campus, residential in places, and has a classy old style vibe. The grounds are well maintained, and plenty of botanic gardens. Don't even try to drive, though, just park and walk.

Very nice campus with a knowledgeable tour guide. We took our daughters with us for the tour. I would highly recommend good walking shoes and arrive early to find parking.

America's most beautiful campus! My wife and I thoroughly enjoy a long walk to see all of the landmarks from the bell tower to the Old Well to Kenan Stadium.

Enjoyed visiting The University of North Carolina and Chapel Hill. With spectacular weather, this is a great place to visit with much tradition and opportunities in sports and a wide variety of entertainment.

See special collections in Wilson Library, the Ackland Art Museum and the Morehead Planetararium. Go to the sports museum in The "Dean Dome" named for Coach Dean Smith. Take a walk in the Coker Arboretum on campus. The Botanical Garden has walking trails in the forest in Chapel Hill

Loved the campus and the town of Chapel Hill, such an interesting mix of people, wonderful facilities and the campus is beautiful.Recently enrolled our child as freshman and she is quite happy.

Gorgeous campus, old school cobblestone & brick feel, makes you think of bygone eras. Visit the main Library if possible, like stepping back in time or into Hogwarts! So many beautiful trees and green lawn areas. The bell tower is very cool as is the famous old well. Oldest University in America, so worthy of a long day of walking to see the whole campus.

Chapel Hill is the quintessential college town with loads of history, tradition and of course sports! I lived here from 1985-89 as a student and always look forward to a trip in Blue Heaven!

With its beautiful campus, historic buildings, and tree lined streets, UNC-Chapel Hill is a wonderful place to visit. Lots of places for a picnic or a stroll.

The first public university to hold classes. Spectacular facilities and campus. Stroll during the fall for beautiful foilage... catch a baseball game, basketball game or just sit among the trees and admire it.

Walking around the UNC campus will be, of course, a completely different experience for the traveler, depending on their relationship to the school. For me, it is always about "the past," nostalgic sensations and memories of what it was like to be a student here. But I can also remember what it was like to walk here when I was just a prospective student, imagining "the future"...
But even those who have no relationship with the school itself can enjoy "the present": a very pleasant day strolling around, seeing the history, the art, the opportunities to taste and see and do.
I highly recommend printing out a walking guide, like the one the Admissions Office publishes (download it from the UNC website)
which gives you both a map and some perspective on the architecture and history.
The Bookstore is a great place to visit and window shop, and it is also worth taking a good long walk through both Davis and Wilson libraries -- there is so much art and history to see and feel.
If you happen to catch a performance or rally at The Pit, that is a bonus, though it is always lively. There's a great little coffee shop in the FedEx Global Education Building off South Columbia. Kenan Stadium, surrounded by wooded pathways is worth a visit, especially if the museum there is open. So, so many great places to visit! Hanes Art Center, Ackland Art Museum, Forest Theatre (a MUST-SEE as far as I am concerned!), the Arboretum and Planetarium...
With bagels from Alpine in the Student Union Building and lunch from any of the many restaurants on Franklin Street, you can easily spend an entire day here without getting bored.

Chapel Hill is one of the most beautiful college towns in America and the University of North Carolina must surely be among the top five most scenic campuses in the United States. It is arguably the most historic for it is, in fact, the oldest state university in the United States up America. This is, indeed, the quintessential State University campus. Touring the campus of the University of North Carolina is a bit like touring London: there are countless approaches to your visit. What kind of tour do you want? Literary UNC? Sports UNC? Historical UNC? Political UNC? It's all here. It is impossible to fully explain the wonderful sensory experience of strolling across the rich and varied environmental textures of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. To begin with your experience will depend upon the season. In the winter: glistening icicles hang from ancient evergreens framing Classical collegiate architecture as wild turkey graze in a distant meadow, unconcealed through a colony of young leafless deciduous trees. In the spring: meander where generations of Tarheels have trod on pathways between George Tabor Azaleas, cascading bridal wreath, and the Old North State's honor are tree, the white dogwood. In the summer you can enjoy the break in the term with fewer students and, perhaps, take find a cooler place at Old Chapel Hill Cemetery where things are kicker than you would think in this 1978 landmark—thick dark green ivy and lots of shade await you in this park-like setting. And then there is fall. In my opinion Chapel Hill is at its best when the multi-colored quilt of Autumn is spread across this university town. Take a walk anywhere. Take a seat. Breath in the vista. You won't regret your visit any season of the year.

What an incredible place? The nation's very first public university and only public university to graduate students before 1800. Very ivy league look mixed with newer high tech buildings.
Major issue and only reason not a 5+ is extremely difficult to find parking on campus during school hours. Could not find any "visitor" parking, but the walk from Franklin St is beautiful, so not too bad.
DO NOT MISS the Basketball Museum next to the Smith Center.
Worth going out of your way if in the area.

While in the area we decided to stroll through the campus and see it all. The buildings are mostly classic brick and look historic and well maintained. The grounds are green with lots of grass and trees providing shade on the hot summer days (and in Oct. when it was super hot while we were there!).
We went in the Dean Smith Stadium and also saw the old well. We picked up a map of Chapel Hill before our walk which helped us locate the things we wanted to see. Very nice campus and worth a visit.

The University of NC Chapel Hill campus is a delight to explore with its historical atmosphere, beautiful parks and natural areas and of course the friendly and helpful students. The little botanical garden offers cool resting places under old trees and just a minute away from Franklin street the artery of the town with its restaurants, cafes and shops.

Just finished tours of William and Mary, Duke University and University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. While every prospective student has to select the school that's right for them, it becomes very obvious that each school seems to have its own distinct personality. UNC just seems like a good school. It's considered mid-size but the place was hopping - students were very active when we were there on a Tuesday morning. It's a pretty campus - nothing over the top gorgeous like Duke, but where Duke looked pristine and pretty, UNC had personality! I loved the diversity represented on campus and the energy was great. Of course they were gearing up for the Final Four run, too, so it was fun to be on campus during that time!
We really enjoyed the campus and prospective students who are admitted, will have a great experience ahead of them, I think!

We loved walking in the gardens. Dorms look updated and nice. We caught a lacrosse game by chance and visited the Old Well.

A beautiful campus A great school! My daughter graduated from here two years ago and loved it! She had caring professors and felt she received a wonderful education. My little granddaughter says she is going to follow in her mothers footsteps, they were so accommodating to non tradional students-they even made a video of transfer students from other backgrounds coming to school there - my daughter and granddaughter are in the video! Went there recently with my friend to pick her son up from college -always enjoy the beauty of the campus.

Visited the campus because of my son's graduation. Took pictures all around the famous landmarks - the old well, clock tower, quad and of course the basketball stadium. Had a nice tour and watched video at planetarium. Walked all along Franklin Street with lots of interesting and iconic local restaurants and of course the chain restaurants as well.

Beautiful campus, great for a day trip to walk around, visit the cute shops and restaurants, tour the campus. Bring a blanket to picnic on the quad.

One of the oldest state university sites in the USA offers a full day of site seeing if one has the time. The Old Well (seen in the picture) is the logo of the entire campus. Visit the planetarium where the astronaughts trained, the two art museums, the Dean Smith Center (home of the UNC basketball champs,) which also has a small museum. There is a medical campus housing dental, medical and nursing schools as well as their world class hospitals. Memorial Hall hosts world famous concerts. You actually need a map from the visitor's center located near the Planetarium to chart your route. This is a must see in Chapel Hill

Wonderful school and beautiful campus! My daughter attends there and has enjoyed every minute of her time spent there. We like to visit and just walk around the beautiful campus.

Truly enjoyed myself and photographers. The environment was truly an experience delivered beyond the realm of WOW that’s awesome!

Took a tour of the school with my husband. My Niece will be attending the school in the Spring 2017! I think the tuition is fairly high at every college in the US! Great school and great campus! Walking distance to shops and eatery!

Beautiful campus and town of Chapel Hill a real positive. There is a completely different vibe than Duke’s campus—also a must see, and more traditional campus away from anything else, and attitude of students very different. Very pedestrian friendly campus, nice mix of older buildings and newer complexes. New soccer stadium beautiful spot to watch a game. Highly recommend.

A wonderful walking tour - most especially in the spring time when the flowers and trees are in bloom.

It's just great to walk on campus and get all this energy. You can store at the students store or the planetarium.

I thoroughly enjoy my time looking around the University the facilities are excellent. The fact that you could jump on and off buses to get around free is a great idea.

The few historic buildings left still , with all its charm. The contemporary buildings lack imagination, kind of boring.

Wanted to take a look at this campus. Fairly modern campus look and buildings. Was very impressed with student activity. Students look happy and friendly. Relaxed atmosphere.

I thought my local Cornell alma mater's campus was the best, and it still may be, but UNC Chapel Hill gives it a good run for its money - it's truly lovely, particularly area with the impressive grove of trees, surrounded by the beautiful brick buildings. Loved being there!

Great Southern College - beautiful in the spring time. Fun to watch basketball games and women's gymnastics.

This is a spectacular campus and very well maintained. The building are easily accessible. You are within walking distance to Franklin Street.

My Daughter is going to College here this Semester. I have been here on several occasions for Orientation, Visit the Campus and now to move her in. Everyone that I have come across has always been so helpful and nice. I don't walk long distances due to future knee replacement so I had meet a really nice student that offered to take me to my dorm when I stayed during Orientation. Her name is Kathryn Long. Someone needs to let her know I said thank you and I was very grateful to her constant help. Also, a Daniel Malumbia was super friendly. Actually never met a hateful or rude person. So glad my girl is going here and I am sure she will be safe with all the safety precautions they have in place.

My wife ran in the race. It was highly organized. We also walked the campus and the visited the Student Stores. This is Mecca for the die hard Tar Heel fan.

I love this campus. The old well and the Smith center are great places to be. People are very nice and helpful in giving directions or anything you need to know

Visited the campus and surrounding area recently when our daughters attended volleyball camp - love the TarHeel Pride!

Nice campus, great school and love vely town. Chapel Hill has retained at lot of it's small town image and culture. Many places to eat and shop. Especially if you like me pubs!

Course taken at the Rizzo Center down at Dubose home lane
Chapel Hill is fantastic and Franklin street has very good gourmet restaurants.

Had the opportunity to visit UNC at Chapel Hill over Spring Break. Hard to beat the natural beauty of the trees, buildings, layout, and history of the campus. Unfortunately, it was also not long after pollen season and some of us in our group had to deal with some allergies! Happened to be in town the same day that the Tar heels played Villanova for the National championship, which was a treat to watch the game on the big screens, alas losing at the buzzer in what will no doubt go down as one of the greatest games in NCAA basketball history. Also toured the little basketball museum they have on campus, with the many trophies on display along with an area devoted to one of their most famed players, Michael Jordan. UNC is a top notch school worth the visit. Our next stop the following day was cross town rival, Duke, which we did not like as much. We stayed at a convenient Hilton Homewood Suites (reviewed separately) which was pretty much located between the two schools.

My husband taught there for thirty years. My two sons graduated from there. I took courses there. Great experience for all of us!
The campus is beautiful and so nice to walk around.. It is centrally located in downtown Chapel Hill.
Great sports programs and events all the time. Very nice living in such a college town.

As long as you aren't visiting in the summer when it is HOT, there is nothing nicer than strolling around the campus. Arboretum, Old Well, amphitheater, etc.

We have no ties to the University, but just came for the afternoon to see the campus and eat on Franklin Street. We visited on a Thursday and it was plenty busy all around. I'm not even sure where to tell you we started, but it was near the Arboretum. We enjoyed walking through there, walked toward the Bell tower, saw where the Old Well was, and also an old chapel dating back to the 1800's. Beautiful large trees - just a lovely walk on a fall day!

I was there for a conference at Friday Center where I was asked to speak. First inkling of a problem was there are too few handicap parking places and most are too far from the entrance (by a lot). Once I got in and saw the auditorium, well, it's bad. Not impossible, but bad. There are places for only 4 wheelchairs and they're all together in the front row (scattered seating is required). There is also no ramp from the auditorium floor onto the stage, just 2 sets of stairs. I had to have an employee waiting in the wings to bring me around through service corridors and onto the stage. Since the auditorium is younger than the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990), it really should have been built properly or at least decently retrofitted by now, 25 years later.

Beautiful campus and great school! It is a very large campus but has a small town feel. The quads are large and very green and the buildings are old and majestic.

We were surprised to see that a unnamed Confederate Statue still stood in the yard amidst beautiful old trees. We were not aware of the local efforts to have it removed. A couple of days later we awoke to a news report that what we now know was "Slient Sam" came tumbling down one evening by the hands of protesting students. The grounds are still beautiful and a guess new visitors will see an empty podium at the current time.

I spent some hours walking around the campus as I was visiting the area. The campus is open but walkable for most of the central buildings. The buildings themselves range from the beautiful to the more non-descript modern. There are trees and greenery everywhere. As my visit was one week after graduation the place was very quiet.
Walking around made me thing how much I would have enjoyed being a student here.

One of the Best universities in the US, probably in the world snugged into Chapel Hill, certainly one of the best small towns.

One day while walking around campus I heard a visitor explain, "This is more beautiful than Harvard Yard." In my opinion it is too.
The oldest state university in the US, UNC is made up of beautiful quads, ancient oak trees, a lovely arboretum, historic brick dorms, and a graduate library in the Greek Revival style. If you are in or near Chapel Hill, it's definitely worth a visit for a relaxing and beautiful walk.

Wonderful walking campus with lots of history from the civil war . Large very old Oak Trees cover the campus . Grave yard with lots of history . Black and white grave yard. Fun events on walking tour . Something to see at ever corner .Buildings all brick . Breathtaking in and out . Patch Adams was filmed here . You can find ,Play house , great medical school, dental school . Hospital is very large with woman's hospital ,cancer hospital , children hospital . Famous Foot ball status . Great place to watch the fire works . Let's not for get the famous Basketball . So much to see and do . Enjoy.

University of North Carolina Chapel Hill has a beautiful campus to walk around and enjoy. There is a lot of history to see as well. It is easy to get around by foot or hop on a bus to explore more. There are many shops and restaurants nearby as well.

We had the best time at their home game against the Citadel and it was so much fun! Everyone was so nice and the staff makes sure that you enjoy yourself and have a pleasant experience. Loved it!

University of Chapel Hill is very lovely & staff & students are very hospitability. I encourage any one to visit campus while in Chapel Hill. Great athletic programs if you would like to catch a sporting event while in town.

UNC at Chapel Hill was the only school which rejected me back in the day. I was from out-of-state and there was no way I was going to get it! So it was interesting seeing it many, many decades later. It is a wonderful and eclectic campus. I loved that the buildings are different from one another. The students seemed happy and I was happy for them to be at such a special place.
Deserving of top rankings
As a resident, I never get tired of visiting the UNC Chapel Hill campus. Trees, trees, trees -- everywhere throughout the campus and town make for a really nice walking campus. Be sure to visit the Old Well, Clock Tower, Basketball Museum, Grimbli Castle, Franklin Street, and on and on to nearby fun and funky Carrboro. It's no wonder America's first public university is top ranked with excellent facilities, a quality student experience and low tuition rates, UNC is really nice. Free bus service throughout the town of Chapel Hill and everything is within 1-2 miles at the most. A must visit when in the Triangle Area.
