We travel from PA to this beach, passing many beaches much closer to home, but we like the beautifully combed sand and clearer waters of VA beach! The boardwalk is nice. It’s concrete and 2.5 miles long. Hotels line the boardwalk and the street on the other side of the boardwalk is where you’ll find all the shops. I like that the boardwalk also provides a separate bike path, adjacent to the boardwalk. The hotels have lovely landscaping and it’s a beautiful stroll/ bike.

Nice spots to take photos of friends and family, especially at a section where there is a large statue of King Neptune surrounded by dolphins, fish, octopus, and sea turtle. At certain areas there are bicycles for rent, as are pedal carts that can hold an entire family.

We rented bikes and walked along. Beach is very nice. LOTS OF RESTAURANTS ON THE BEACHFRONT. enjoyable trip.

Our third time here. It is quite a nice experience with weekend entertainment such as live bands etc. We visited the Dairy Queen which was good. There are public restrooms behind the DQ but I think there should be more bathrooms along the boardwalk. There is a nice pier used for fishing and to enjoy the view of the ocean but they have a fee to gain access and we found that strange since it is free in Coney Island, NY. The shops on the pier have a good variety of gifts and souvenirs. I found one of my favorite things there - fudge which I love.

The boardwalk is the place to be if your coming to the beach I like it because it’s wide enough to walk with your family with separate bike path just be careful when crossing to look both ways!

On a weekday afternoon in September the Virginia Beach boardwalk is a nice, quiet walk. A few bicycles buzzing by, some joggers, the occasional vagrant, although not many, and the roar of fighter jets from Oceania naval Air station.
The biggest problem with the Virginia Beach boardwalk is that it's still not connected to Norfolk by MetroRail service. The only way to get here is to drive. On a super dead day that's not much of an issue. But if there's traffic a trip to the Virginia Beach waterfront and back can be a major undertaking.

With so many choices of beaches from OBX, Ocean City, Md, etc... I don't know if I will be returning to Va Beach again. You have to pay to park everywhere. Want to run to CVS down thew beach and it's a long walk, or wait for the public transport or pay to park. Want to shop at any of the beach stores, same story. virtually no parking at any shop and very few restaurants. If visiting plan to do your shopping and meals inland away from the beach or be prepared to pay for parking. While I like Va Beach I think we'll be heading back to OBX where there is plenty of parking anywhere you want to shop or eat.

Virginia Beach boardwalk is probably the safest boardwalk I’ve ever been on. Late at night early in the day time very safe very quiet beautiful boardwalk. The statues, sculptures, and monuments down the entire boardwalk are just gorgeous. Virginia Beach offers live music every day at 17th St. and boardwalk and 24th and boardwalk. Then on Thursdays there’s free movie on the beach what more could you ask for? Beautiful Virginia Beach!

The boardwalk is clean and well maintained. It’s busy but not crowded. That’s partially because unlike an Ocean City there isn’t a ton of shops/restaurants right on the boardwalk. There are a handful though and the views are excellent.

The boardwalk was just beautiful along the ocean. Well lit at night and a great place for a walk, ride or run. Plenty of places to eat. The only drawback was alot of the restaurants are pricey and the rentals for the beach close right after Labor Day.

We walked the boardwalk only to the Pier because of the intense heat. Half the restaurants and stores were closed by corona virus. The boardwalk was very clean and we saw no vagrants as mentioned in other posts and enjoyed our walk.

The boardwalk is lovely and is definitely popular among Virginia Beach visitors. It is great that it offers different forms of entertainment (musical, theatrical, playground, monuments - to name a few.) What's missing - imho - are public restrooms (we encountered just one during our long walk) and changing rooms (haven't encountered a single one). This is very inconvenient for those visitors who are renting properties away from the beach or those who have checked out.

Boardwalk is nice bikes horses walking etc. the Christmas lights looked like they were going to come up but were not on at night.

Lots of things within walking distance. The beach was beautiful but hilly. Still lots of fun. Great place to take a walk or bike.

Just a little vacation before Christmas. This is my happy place. Love the beach and the sound of the ocean and the waves.

Beautiful beach. Clean. A bit chilly on this February day. King Neptune sculpture did not disappoint. Public parking in garage just steps away.

Parking
Depending on where you park you will pay $10-$25 for the day. We pulled into one that was charging $25 and we decided to keep looking. The attendant was kind enough to tell us that there is public parking for much cheaper. It is further back from the beach but it was only $10 and not much of a walk.
Shops/Food
There are a lot of souvenir shops and restaurants on the strip one block from the beach. There are multiple Sunsation stores where I highly recommend visiting to get beach gear before you hit the beach.
The places on the beach are ones with priceless menus. A block off the beach though there were plenty of places. We saw people with pizzas and ended up going to 204 Pizza. Their staff was great and their pizza was very tasty.
Beach
It was easy to find a place on the beach to sit. We didn’t leave our stuff alone so I can’t speak on the safety but the beach was fun (water cold) and it was very relaxing. There’s a King triton statue at one end that was neat to see.
Hotels: The decent hotels run $400+ a night. We decided to go to the next town and all the hotels from Virginia Beach all through Delaware were sold out. So be prepared.

The boardwalk is amazing! What could be better than a 3 mile stroll without vehicles and a history lesson all at once. King Neptune is watching!

A great place to walk. It is very clean. You can also walk along the ocean which has easy access. Many places to stop a grab a bite to eat or have something to drink

Homeless people and vagrants all over the boardwalk and nearby streets. They are sleeping on the boardwalk benches, sleeping in the middle of the streets; hanging out between hotels; and harassing visitors. The situation has really gotten out of control and presents a safety and tourism problem. Virginia Beach needs to get a hold on this before it becomes the next California.

Not suitable for small children. The city doesn't enforce the rule for bikes to be on the bike path, so it's very dangerous on the boardwalk with all the bikes, especially if you have small children. Same with Skateboards.

Nice walk. On one side you can see the beautiful beach and the sea. On the other side you can see the many huge hotel complexes and there are quite a lot of them. Don't be alarmed, there is a military airport nearby and you can constantly hear and see jets.

I really wanted to like Virginia Beach. My wife and I opted to come here instead of Ocean City, MD because we heard it was a little less rowdy. I have yet to visit OC but I do regret my decision to do VB at this time. The beach was nice and clean, and the boardwalk was nice and long… but it also had a really eerie vibe to it. Big, old ugly hotels line the entire thing. Lots of homeless folks milling about. You have to go a block up to do any shopping. There’s not really any “town” to walk around in. Just some kind of run-down places and typical beach shops. It felt a little unsafe even in the daytime. I thought at the very least we would experience southern charm (we live a few hrs north) but no one was particularly nice. I don’t really have any reason to go back.

So beautiful and peaseful early in the morning. The sound of the ocean and waves crashing.looking at the people walking their dogs. Running. Some just strolling

The Christmas lights and watching the surfers out in the ocean. it was also very convenient to walk just downstairs to the first floor restaurant and bar where I was able to enjoy a live band along with good food and drinks and company.

Love the boardwalk! Unique shops, eateries, and people along the way. Each street seems to have it's own personality.
However, I wish people wouldn't ride motorized scooters, skateboards, roller skates/rollerblades, and those four person bike carts on the boardwalk. I've been almost hit more times than I can count.

Clean and well maintained, convenient to everything! The little parks and statues are very interesting.

I have been on a lot of east coast boardwalks. Some large, some small, some new, some old, some busy, some not so much...
This boardwalk was kind of sterile. It had a number of people on it, mixed use. In Feb I guess the rules dont apply so you were walking with track clubs racing, skateboarders, bike riders (some recreational, some putting the exercise hammer down, and one with an electric motor going waaaaay too fast for a populated thoroughfare).
There is nothing to do on this boardwalk except travel. No stores, no food, no water, sunbathers are out by the water so you cant look at them as you walk.
Not the worst boardwalk I have been on but certainly not the best. I would do the boardwalk when I come again, but I wouldnt come FOR the boardwalk like I would Ocean City or NJ .

We stopped for the day, but turned out to be raining all day on Saturday 10/14. We did check out the area in between raindrops. The boardwalk was really nice and we did like the entirely separate bike lane. We entered the area by the Neptune statute. Everything in that area looked very clean as did the beach, no trash to be seen. All the shops appeared to be on the street behind the water front hotels which we checked out a few. We were not overly impressed with the specific area, looked a little run down like it could use some sprucing up with the tired looking buildings. The public restrooms also seemed few and the one my husband used by the Dairy Queen he said was atrocious and most disgusting restroom he had ever seen. We probably won’t be returning but was nice to see the area anyway!

An easy path for walking along the beach behind the line of hotels. Some restaurants lookout over the beach, but there aren’t restaurants and stores ON the boardwalk like some other beaches. We saw parking range from $5 to $30. The concrete makes it easy for strollers and such. There is a parallel bike path, you need to watch out for when crossing. Overall, we found it pretty clean and easy access at every block. There are “wash stations” just off the beach at several spots.

Virginia Beach’s boardwalk is always fun. We live about two hours away and day visits common for our family. We bike, eat ice cream, eat beachside lunches or dinners. There is ample beach available for setting up beach chairs, umbrellas, and tents.

Virginia Beach boardwalk seems like it would be great for everyone- families, couples, solos. It is a very wide strip between the oceanfront hotels/restaurants and the sand, with a separate bike path. There are benches along the way, as well as activity areas. If you go when there is a event going on, food trucks are also available. During our visit, it was crowded but clean. I also saw the beach itself cleaned early in the morning. There are plenty of trash cans along the path as well.
If you walk to the main road, Atlantic Ave, there is food options of all kinds and plenty of shops and hotels. I’m not sure where all the public bathrooms are but there was definitely one around 18th St. at the Dairy Queen. Just be sure to look both ways when you go across the bike path!

The area was very clean and well kept. A nice way to take a walk down the shore without getting in the sand. There was also a separate area for bicycles, which was nice.

The Boardwalk was little crowed was a little nervous, but It was nice to see people wearing their masks. Very busy area!

The bustling boardwalk of Virginia Beach was a captivating hub that drew people from all corners of the globe, creating a vibrant, shared space. The majestic and ever-changing ocean painted a stunning backdrop. The military jets soared through the sky, presenting captivating activities and breathtaking displays in myriad dazzling colors. The expansive boardwalk provided ample opportunity for strolls, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the surroundings without any distractions.

Great place to walk and enjoy the gorgeous beach! Separate area for bikes and walkers. Lots of restaurants and shops along the 3 mile stretch. Lovely landscaping and benches along the way. Well lit at night and lots of music for your enjoyment. You’ll also find art and Neptune along the path. Only negatives the overwhelming smell of pot and lots of homeless.

Not your typical boardwalk. Actually a cement walk. Not sure when the boards went away. It is a beautiful walk. All the shopping is actually one street over and has your typical beach town shops. Nothing extraordinary for a beach town.

Always a great time on the boardwalk. Seeing bicyclists, scooters, skate boarders, carriages etc. everyone is so friendly & polite. Gonna miss this place…. Always kept clean and maintained ….

I love how this boardwalk is so beautifully landscaped and maintained. The fact that the boardwalk isn't congested with stores and restaurants makes it a wonderful place to vacation. It's well lit and extremely clean. The Christmas Lights display is something everyone should see.

I love Virginia Beach but the amount of homeless people sleeping and hanging out on the boardwalk is ridiculous!! Cops pass them and don’t say anything. It’s not good.

Just a beautiful place to walk and enjoy the sounds of the beach and ocean. Most people are wearing their masks and keeping their distance. It's October so much easier in the off-season to keep safe from Covid

Boardwalk is kept very clean and beautiful landscaping!! Great for anyone!!
Amazing and have been going for years!!

The Boardwalk is a wide, paved walkway beside the ocean. It runs for 39 blocks, from first to 39th street and has an adjacent bike path. It's great for people and dolphin watching and is landscaped with gardens and sculptures plus there are numerous restaurants and bars.
From June through September, there are many outdoor free concerts along the way plus many bars have their entertainer in their outdoor patio so you can just sit on a bench and listen as you wish.
On summer weekends and special events, there are free concerts at 5th ,17th , 24 th and 31st streets . Plan to spend hours enjoying the Boardwalk

I rally enjoyed the Virginia Beach Boardwalk. Alot of things were closed due to covid but it was a great walk with lots to see along the way. I loved all the statues and of course all the beauty of the ocean the whole way.

The boardwalk is clean and safe specially from 42 to 5 streets. We saw plenty police forces in cars, bikes and motorcars in the beach. White Garbage cans have been placed all over. The board and the beach are kept pristinely clean. I loved that they separated the board in two well defined and separated lines one for bikes and another one for pedestrians. This way safety is enforced and pedestrians aren’t harassed by bikers who normally believed own the boards.

I'll start with why this isn't a fair review. We were on the boardwalk in December, during the pandemic. It was cold, it was windy, it was very, very empty. This is not your normal time to be on the beach. We got some hot coffee and walked a bit along the boardwalk (though it wasn't really made of boards where we were). That said, it was different than many other beach towns I was on, as there wasn't much beach-facing retail where we were, everything was on a strip hiding behind a row of mid- and low-tier hotels. It lacked even the feel of places like Coney Island and Atlantic City - which are far from the best beach towns. It was far, far from places like Provincetown. I can't judge too harshly until we go back during peak season during normal times. And despite the feel of the town, the beach seemed very nice - broad, clean, nice sand. We of course couldn't go swimming given the weather.

We went over spring break-maybe it was a bad time of year. There were young adults riding skateboards with giant speakers on their back. Their were also ppl promoting their religion with large signs .... that was unexpected?

A chilly spring get away. Much needed. Pet friendly. Enjoy walking the boardwalk and shopping way to much. The food was great.

Always clean and beautiful. Walkers, runners, bikers, families, couples, animals, and everyone else. A nice slow paced walk to soak in all of the beauty. Plenty of places to stop and learn about each section of the beach. Fun artwork to enjoy and take pictures with.

Ok, so I don't like boarwalks, even made out of concrete. There is nothing wrong with this one, it is wide, bikes have a separate path and it is mostly free of dog poop. Luckily there were very few people due to COVID - I can immagine it could get really crowded. There is nothing much to do - almost not food stands.

Clean boardwalk off the beach. Has a full bike lane and separate walking lane. Beach does have people on it at ALL hours of the day AND night. Boardwalk from the area around Neptune Statue and north tend to have homeless parking out on the benches asleep.

The boardwalk is clean, long, wide and well paved. There's a separate place for bikes and carts. The signs that tell you how far you've walked are a nice touch.

We had a great time. The boardwalk is so nice. The beach is clean, staff is friendly no matter which business you visit. Parking can be challenging if you won't arrive earlier.

Virginia Beach Boardwalk- 6.5/10 Not a lot of shops, mostly hotels, just miles of hotels, good sand beach for kids if you have them.

We visited Virginia Beach on a Sunday afternoon. Even though it was the weekend, we found street parking extremely close to Neptune's statue with no problem. There were people at the beach, but it was not overly busy and it was comfortable to be there. I am glad we went and were able to see the Atlantic Ocean while on our visit.

We had a great time playing in the water and collecting seashells. We went to the Neptune Festival, and the boardwalk was filled with a variety of vendors and food.

Beautiful Experience at Christmas time in Nov. 2020. My son & I!! U must take the adventure ride in your vehicle on the Boardwalk!! A memory never forgotten! Precious memories!💖

Clean and spacious walking area overlooking the beautiful beach. I felt safe and many people were also partaking the boardwalk but did not feel overcrowded.

Exceptionally clean, no trash floating around, tons of people, separate bike lanes and an extra-wide walkway to allow for ample passing room.

Poorly behaved groups of teens. We watched groups of boys hop on the rental bikes and nearly destroy them. There was a wrestling event being held in town and many groups of teens looked to have no chaperones.

VA Beach is our favorite on the east coast. The boardwalk is long and open; great for biking at allowed times

Love the boardwalk. Just taking a nice stroll along it lowers the blood pressure. Lots of restaurants to chose from also

Virginia Beach has gotten a bad rap, but things have changed! It's clean and awesome!! Love going there and experiencing all the boardwalk has to offer!

Disappointed that not many places were open and the restaurants that were open were understaffed. Also Virginia Beach boardwalk is starting to have a homeless problem.

very similar to Daytona ( except no cars on the beach). nice walk.. lots of hotels and a few bars on the route. Parking lots are ample but may need to walk a bit. lots of washrooms

Drove over from Williamsburg just to walk the boardwalk. Traffic was pretty light for midsummer on Atlantic Avenue so that was nice. We had our older small dog in his stroller and we covered from 14th street to the King Neptune Statue. The $20 to park is always discouraging but that's what you pay nowadays. Great wide boardwalk with a bike path dedicated to them is great. We saw dolphins and watched ships coming and going into Norfork as we walked. It has been a lot of years since I last walked this boardwalk but it still stands out as what I think is the best on the East coast!!

Nicely kept beach and boardwalk. Thank you to the Virginia Beach staff that keep this area clean. The king Neptune statue and other statues were nice for photo ops! The sand was nice to walk on and the bike path was great. During the day we enjoyed our time. In the evening my family played mini golf which was fun, my only suggestion is to keep your eyes peeled for crackheads. Very shady people on the streets in the evening. You can smell the drugs being smoked. One creepy guy even walked up to us and flexed. Hopefully they can stop this before it becomes an all time problem. Need some police enforcement to just walk the beat patrolling the area.

The board walk is one of the Highligts in Virginia Beach with a lot off bars and restaurants and a good fishing pier

Gone are the weekly fireworks displays (shot off from the sea), as well as the sidewalk artists at night.
Still there is everything else, so its still a nice beach and boardwalk, but not like it was just 2 years ago.

Inland was HOT but the beach not so much. My daughter wore a sweater and I had a blanket the wind was ferocious and non stop. If you rented an umbrella it stayed out if you brought your own good luck with it not toppling overz

What a beautiful area! Did A LOT of walking and eating ☺️ Lots of yummy restaurants! Stayed at a little family-owned place called Ocean Cove Motel. Really nice people, clean room, great location.

Lots of nice shops and restaurants but most located on the two streets parallel to the boardwalk. Plenty of entertainment singers street performers karaoke provided by the city and some random people. The kids loved the arcade. If you like people watching this is your place. Quite the variety. I did see some homeless people and smelled pot quite often. I never felt unsafe but we didn’t stay past 9 pm either. Virginia Beach is a unique place. The boardwalk area isn’t for everyone but there’s other places in the city that’s like any other beach town without a boardwalk. Tons of stuff to do in the area.

We walked along the boardwalk several times. So relaxing with ocean sounds. Seems to be well maintained

My wife and I were in town for a funeral. We had some down time and checked out the boardwalk area. Beautiful beachfront. Tons of high rise hotels and shops. I’m sure this is a very different experience in the summer months. Parts of the immediate area seemed a little seedy, but we never felt unsafe. I’d like to check it out someday when the area is more active. We did a good amount of walking on the very long boardwalk, which was in awesome shape, and there were many tributes and memorials to check out.

Great mid afternoon experience! Rented a 4 person surry and pedaled our way south aways, then back north aways : stopped for a seafood snack with some suds. Marveled at the wonderful sculptures, watched the visitors on the walk, pier, and beach. Great place to visit, even if you don't like sand and surf!!

The best boardwalk on the Atlantic - very clean and level. Optional path for bikes keeps the main boardwalk safer.

We love the fact that it has a walking part all the way down the beach and also a bike riding lane. We rent the bikes out for the day and love to ride the boardwalk.

Love the wide boardwalk and separate bike path. There are several benches along the way to stop and take in the sights. Plenty of restaurant choices along the way too. Very family friendly.

The boardwalk is a treasure. Went to the end of the pier. Dolphins, surfers, fishermen were all active. $4 charge for visitors to the pier. Maintenace crews were repairing cracks along the boardwalk. it was good to see nobody tripping over poor concrete.
The Ocean views ever changing and fighter jets soaring overhead.

Easy to access. Fun to see hotels, shops, etc. Our hotel was right on water. Easy looking access. Took walks after dinner. Safe and lots of people still out.

The boardwalk is 3 miles long. Smooth walkways. It’s well lit at night. Drinking fountains are available frequently along the boardwalk. Public restrooms are available at 2nd St, 17th St- Dairy Queen (17th Street restrooms are closed indefinitely due to COVID), 24th St, 30th St, 31st St. Portable restrooms are available in a few locations on the beach. Foot wash and/or showers are available at each public beach access.

It is so beautiful on the boardwalk and well maintained. We stayed at Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Va Beach Oceanfront and so had a wonderful view of the boardwalk and access to it all week. Our room overlooked the horse corral and it was fun watching them. We also got to see not only the full moon, but the lunar eclipse as well. Hated to leave, we will return!

I really enjoyed my visit to Va Beach. The boardwalk was right outside our hotel and very convenient. Needless to say we did a lot of walking. The boardwalk is wide snd has separate lane for bicycles - no worries to being run over!

We walked this broadwalk a few times during our visit. This was our first time visiting Virginia beach. People were friendly.

The boys (14 & 11) had a great time on the beach today! On and off rain with 70 degree temperatures and light variable winds. This is a great time to visit — highly recommended.

Living minutes away from the Jersey Shore, I'm used to a boardwalk. The boardwalk here is actually a 28' wide concrete walkway, with an adjacent bike path. Nothing bad about it, just different.
There are a number of parks along the three mile length, and on any given night there may be a band playing or other performances. There is also a "movie on the beach" on Wednesday nights during the summer at the boardwalk and 29th street. Sadly, the one we went to watch (live action Aladdin) ended up ending after about half an hour due to a thunderstorm that popped up

I think the title says it all. Its a simple and busy boardwalk but there isn't anything really special about it.

Food is pretty good, scenery is nice but dirty and bathrooms are DISGUSTING! The owner needs to get off the beach, get in the restaurant and get this place cleaned up.

This was very expensive for the amount of lights and short time spent. The problem I have is Newport News Park was 12.00 dollars and honestly they had every light in every spot and it was gorgeous. The value was definitely there. I guess because Bayport sponsored the VA Beach lights they were limited but giving how each car paid around this amount it's truly no excuse. NEVER AGAIN!!!

From the boardwalk you will see a beautiful stretch of sand and surf. Great for a leisurely stroll although it gets crowded with vacationers. There are plenty of restaurants and hotels to choose from.

I wouldn't really need to go back here. Walkway is long but torn up in spots. Pretty rough looking crowd. Nice beach but not a lot else to look at other than rows of hulking concrete buildings. I can't actually think of a less appealing beach town.

The boardwalk is comfortable to walk and it's well kept. Some interesting statues and museums are found on it and make it more interesting. Access to the street is easy. Bycicles have their own path and willnot interfere with walkers and joggers.

They keep it so nice with a cleaning trucks brushing it every early morning giving it an upscale feeling. Beautiful sunrises and smooth bike riding for 40 blocks only in the morning. Many restaurants and some entertainment. Need more stores.

This is the second time coming to the Virginia Beach boardwalk in the month of November but first time for the Holiday lights.
Based on different places that I have been, this lights show is over priced $$ .
They charge $25 Monday-Friday and $30 on weekends.
When I was driving to the entrance I asked why they don’t have any kind of sign with the prices. ?
The lady I talked to responded with a very rude attitude saying “Yes we do have the signs” and I told her No you don’t have any sign!!
The problem is when we realize how much it was, we couldn’t exit from the line. There is not exit path accessible.
$30 just too much!

This place is an enjoyable location to relax and enjoy the activities of walking, running, bike riding or just plain sitting around and relaxing. The military history and monuments are beautiful and well maintained. Great place for the family.

Virginia beach is no longer a family friendly destination....we'll unless you want your children to learn every swear word, see sexual parphanelia and saying, learn about dispensaries, and hear profane music. You can have a wonderful family experience if you avoid the stores but I will not longer visit the stores for this reason. They are not family friendly whatsoever and the display of these items is actually illegal but it doesn't seem as though the city cares about the law or tourism.

Loved it. Logged many miles in our three days on VB. Crews were doing awesome job cleaning up after Ian. Trash changed many times a day.

The boardwalk is a great place to walk, bike, roller blade, or people watch. Plenty of trash cans and public restrooms or porta-potties to keep things clean. We saw the maintenance crews out several times. Thank you for making this a great place to visit. We also enjoyed the nightly concerts at 31st Street.

We had an enjoyable day walking along the boardwalk by the beach. We took a beach break so our grand baby could run along the edge of the ocean which she thoroughly enjoyed. The sand is nice light brown and good for walking.

Boardwalk is nice. Plenty of room to walk and play here are seperate bike lanes. Well lit at night, lots of walkers and joggers early in morning . Nothing spectacular

Ridiculously expensive (40$) for some old Christmas lights. Save your money and drive around a nicely decorated neighborhood. No way to get out before paying so we spent 45 minutes “in traffic” to get to the end.

Whether we were grabbing some sun at the beach or grabbing a snack, the boardwalk gave us so many options!

Best Boardwalk we have been to with kids. Its family friendly and lot of entertainment opportunities.

Beautiful WIDE and clean beach with sand that's like powder. MANY restaurants and bar within walking distance. Very WIDE esplenade to walk, bike or skate, well lit at night runs the length of the beach from 4th Street to 36th Street. Many highrise hotels with pools.

Great place, beach fantastic restaurants set good, shopping a little touristy cheesy but overall fun time and a great weekend getaway

My family and I went to Virginia Beach on a Friday afternoon. The boardwalk is right on the beach, and is adjacent to many hotels and restaurants. I appreciated that there was a separate biking path that was separated from the walking path. This was a really effective system, and was utilized by many people. There were great views of the ocean everywhere. This is a great place to spend a day in the Summer!

This is a great boardwalk. It is very clean. During my vacation, I took a long walk every morning on the boardwalk and under the bridge to Rudee's Inlet. Virginia Beach seems to be more family oriented than Ocean City, MD which is closer to where I live. There are several very nice restaurants on the boardwalk within walking distance of many hotels. The boardwalk has a separate section for bikes only which was very nice so you didn't have to weave in and out of crowds of people.

The boardwalk is a 3 mile expanse going north and south along the shore. It's not an actual boardwalk - it is paved and very level. There are walkers and runners in every age bracket strolling, starting at daybreak (you can watch the sun rise over the Atlantic) and ending after dark. There are many benches along the west side for resting, chatting or people watching, and there are numerous access points to the beach. The famous Neptune statue is on the north end near 30th Street, and the Pier is about a mile and a half south of there (yes, I walked it!) Put on some good walking shoes and enjoy!

You can walk the entire length of the beach and you will pass by the 14th street pier, restaurants and bars that have ocean views, all of the resort hotels, and even provides a path for bikers and roller bladders'. A fun atmosphere

The boardwalk is 3 miles of paved ocean-front trails full of walkers, runners, people on bikes, and groups in pedal carts. Busy place. Several options for renting bikes, carts, etc.

Regular exercise is a daily routine for me so the 4.5 mile boardwalk fit right in. The sites along the way, along with being able to bring my dog is a plus

We visited the beach on the Friday before the 4th of July, and surprisingly it was not overly crowded. No problem with parking, helpful workers pointed us to public restrooms. It was very hot and the sand was almost burning our feet, so make sure to bring closed shoes. The only thing we didn't know was that you had to pay to go on the pier, which was disappointing because that was the only reason we parked by the pier. Not worth it for us to spend 5 minutes walking to the end and back. Plenty of room on the beach to spread out and the water was very nice. Well maintained beach. Liked that it is mostly public beach and the hotels don't own and restrict beach access like in other beachside towns. Definitely would visit again.

The 3 mile boardwalk is terrific for runners and pedestrians, with a separate bike lane that keeps the two a part. It's is very well maintained, with great views of the ocean and the surprisingly clean beach. But there isn't much to do - mostly an avenue of hotels. Not even a Starbucks. Our teenager complained that all we did was walk. Fair enough. But for the walkers among us it was great.

Boardwalk appeared clean. You can rent bikes to ride. You can skateboard or roller blade. Lots to see.

We’ve been a few times in the past twenty years and though the boardwalk is great for long walks and ocean views, it can be loud and so many people smoke while walking, biking, and sun bathing. If you’re okay with that, this is the place for you. If not (like me) find another beach to visit. I don’t think I’ll return.

We were visiting for Thanksgiving, which is obviously not beach weather, but since I had never seen Virginia Beach, I wanted to make sure we took a look. After a delicious breakfast nearby, we walked a block or two to get to the boardwalk. This is a paved road, that is nice and wide so it's easy to stroll without bumping into people, as it was surprisingly busy, even for late November. Apparently, for the Christmas holidays, they line the boardwalk with lights and all sorts of Christmas displays, and then at night you can drive your car down the boardwalk to view everything. We were there midmorning, so obviously couldn't see the lights, but the displays were very significant. We enjoyed all the great works of art, including Neptune statue, and the Veterans park. I could see where this would be a lot of fun in the summer, being right up against so many hotels and condo complexes. Lots of stores selling all sorts of swimwear and accessories line the streets about a block from the boardwalk, along with lots of different ice cream shops, and other snack, and food stops.

This is a very wide and long boardwalk situated between the hotels and the deep beach. It is great for a lazy stroll and people watching.

We truly enjoyed the boardwalk in Virginia Beach. We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn so we were on the boardwalk every night. Well designed and set up with biking and Surry path separate from the main boardwalk. Well maintained and very clean. Great Job VB 👍

A BEAUtiful beach and it is kept SO CLEAN! And the lifeguards sure are active. We enjoyed our two-day stay!

The pristine beach was perfect for sunbathing, playing beach volleyball, or simply taking a relaxing dip in the ocean. <3
Perfect spot for a beach lover, a food enthusiast, or a seeker of relaxation!

The boardwalk is very clean and has a separate path for bikes. On one side is the ocean the other just hotel/resorts. There are bathrooms peppered throughout and are well marked. Be sure to check out the monuments along the boardwalk.

The whole boardwalk experience! It’s off season so everything wasn’t packed which was good. We walked the whole board walk and felt safe. We also were able to rent bikes which we all loved.

The boardwalk has so many different shops, restaurants. , bars and restaurants. There even was a tea across from our hotel that had fire pits and outdoor games.

The boardwalk, actually concrete is fantastic. There is a separate bike path that run parallel to the boardwalk so that riders and walkers don't cross paths, if only the bikers would use it. The best thing is there are no bars, that we saw, on the boardwalk.

Spent the morning biking the Virginia Beach Boardwalk. Not quite six miles long, it's a nice level place to bike. The bike path is well maintained. Beautiful ocean views and lots of places to stop for drinks, food or ice cream.

Nice boardwalk with a good bike path. Lots of use for the full 3 miles. Restaurants, beautiful beach and things to do. Only issues were better rules needed for the bike path so you didn’t have to stop each time. People were crossing in front of you.

Morning is for walkers, runners and bikers. Daytime is for beach goers. Nighttime everyone comes out onto the boardwalk to people see, walk and be a part of the action. Clean, 3 miles long, beautifully landscaped, it’s an attraction on its own.

We stayed at a hotel towards the end of the Boardwalk and walk all the way to Pier; nice and relaxing walk wether you do it at the Boardwalk itself or on the beach.

It was very beautiful and not very crowded. We walked the whole length and back for exercise and it was a great time!

This is our second visit, the first with our son who is two. We had another fabulous time and hope next time to come for a full week. We enjoy biking the boardwalk and this time we biked clear to First Landing State Park! Plenty of things to do, see, and eat along the boardwalk.

You have seen magic acts. The magic here is good. But, you have not seen a Magician who is also a Boss. This guy knows the bouncers, the waitresses, and the bartenders. If Stu likes you and your cool, he's down for having a drink. He is the Prince of the city, albeit a small one (Virginia Beach.) If you ever have the chance to join Stu to grab a drink elsewhere, don't expect to wait in lines. Stu goes to the head of the line and enters without being on the list. That's how this magician rolls. I don't know if its part of the show, but when you are with Stu, you have a VIP pass. If you have time, and you're in the area, you might enjoy this show.

Love this place!!! Everyone is so nice too! Clean, right by the pier and we’ll attended. It’s perfect location and friendly staff will keep us coming back!

Nice area tho’ be prepared for constant jet flyovers as you are near a working air base. Visited in April so. It sure how busy it all gets in summer

This is a really nice boardwalk on a beautiful beach. Lots of interesting shops and restaurants. The rinse off areas are great for cleaning sandy feet before getting back in the car.

Enjoyed the 6am bike ride down to the fishing pier, sat for a hour watching the birds then rode back to my hotel for Breakfast which was delicious. Four Sails has a restaurant on site. I repeat the same thing at 7pm.

The boardwalk was very cool! Play areas for kids. Workout areas for anyone wanting a workout! Bicycle rentals. Great for getting your daily walk in and people watching! Many places to eat and live entertainment. Great area for dolphin watching! Pier for fishing. Public restrooms that were surprisingly pretty clean! Homeless people lying on benches early morning. The boardwalk was clean for the most part except for some occasional dog poop that the owners are too lazy to pick up after their dogs even though there were doggie bags along the boardwalk.

We arrived a little late, but it was worth it! The area is full of hotels that overlook the beach. You can walk around it, it must be very nice in summer, it looks very spacious and everything is very neat and clean. There are parking lots in the area to go down to the beach.

My husband and I came for a short vacation & are having the most relaxing time. Yes, it is covid season and October. Which is making this a great time without the large crowds. Not everything is open, but we don't need it. We are either sitting on the balcony or on the shore, enjoying the sounds of the ocean.

The Boardwalk was nicely done with the width of the boardwalk, and shear beauty of the beach. There is a bike path just to your east with landscaping between you on the boardwalk, and the bike path. Having a separate bike path is nice because you don't have to worry about getting hit by a bicycle. Almost every hotel has a restaurant that you can get breakfast lunch ,and dinner at. Many restaurants have an outdoor porch that you can dine at with a view. The Boardwalk has a number of sculptors that you can look at. It was a great place. Don't be shy about seeing Virginia Beach, and walking the Boardwalk in the off season either. It does get chilly in the winter, and you may need a coat, but you can do whale watching for just 35 dollars per person for a two hour to three hour trip out to see whales, and you can do horse back riding on the beach in the winter, but not in the summer.

Of season, OK. The area is not completely open yet. There are a lot of places that are still closed. Not a bad area to relax and just unwind. The area has changed a lot prior to the pandemic. However, still not a bad place to visit.

We stayed at the Doubletree and we were able to this from our room. At Christmas, there is a drive thru Christmas light display. The cost is $17 per car. The line was ok on Thursday but on Friday and Saturday there was a long line. It is a beautiful display! We walked on the beach- it was cold so we didn’t stay long. There are lots of restaurants on this walk!!

We went for the Neptune Festival, which was from 9/29/23 through 10/1/23. The weather was not the best, cloudy with bouts of rain, and cool. We did not let that deter us from having a good time. There were free concerts. We attended the “Steel Pulse” concert. It was excellent. Our hotel was on the broad walk, so we could go out on the balcony and see what was going on. There were so many vendors selling all sorts of stuff, from artistic jewelry, to vibrating back pillows. There were food trucks, with every food you could imagine. There were the trucks, which you could go inside and experience the thrill of; fire trucks, ambulances, school buses, and surveillance vehicles, (my favorite). There was the dog jump in the water and catch the cloth. ( I don’t remember what it was called), but it was entertaining. My favorite was the sand sculpture competition. So creative and artistic. All in all we had a great weekend. Oh, forgot to mention on our last day, Sunday, 10/1/23, the sun came out and the temperature was in the eighties, so we got to put our feet in the water and walk in the sand. A perfect way to end our short stay.

We went through the drive through holiday lights display on the boardwalk and it was wonderful. Lots of displays and lit arches to drive under with a radio station to listen along with. It really got us in the holiday spirit.

Love the long boardwalk for biking or strolling with memorials along the way honoring our heroes. Just a terrific place.

VA Beach boardwalk is a great place to exercise, people watch or just talk a leisurely stroll before getting into something else. No shops, but lots nearby. Boardwalk is clean and patrolled by police.

If tou like boardwalks, this is wide and in great condition except for occassional messes. With COVID, it is not crowded and there is a sparate bike path to keep bikes off of the board walk. There jsut isn't much to do.

We really didn't have time to do much but eat and hang out at the beach. It took for ever to drive here from Ohio we were stuck in traffic on our way all in Va. It should of only taken 7 hours to get there and it ended up being 9 plus. The traffic and the way people drove in the passing lane is why I will NEVER come back to VA Beach.

Hotel balcony on the board where not only can you people watch, see everything, and everybody but you're right at the ocean. AWESOME!

separate bicycle path from wider walking path. Many exits to street areas with interesting sculptures at each entrance to the beach.

We visited VA Beach for a weekend getaway and saw the incredible Christmas lights display. Very well done. It was a drive thru light show and we had Christmas songs playing on the radio while looking at all the beautiful lights. We loved ever minute of the Christmas light show!

A beautiful 3 mile stretch of beach. While not a typical Boardwalk as it is concrete. It is wide with easy access to the beach. It does have a separate area for bikes etc. While there are a number of places to eat and hotels galore, shopping is one block away. Beautiful wide beach area. Very clean

We had not been in about 10 years and were surprised by how dirty the area is. There were several homeless people around, litter in the streets, on the walk and the beach. Much of the infrastructure looked like it simply needs a good cleaning and small repairs. The port a john onear 21st had not been emptied or cleaned in a long time. It looks like the city leadership is getting lazy and not taking care of their own.

The Virginia Beach boardwalk is one of my favorites. It is always clean and the city takes good care of sidewalk issues. Just on the side of the boardwalk is the beach. While there, neither the boardwalk nor beach was overly crowded. I felt very safe at night even while walking alone. I visit each year and it is always enjoyable.

The Boardwalk is nice and the beach is beautiful and clean, but if you are not going to swim at this time of the year , then there is not much to do then walking back and forth.
As the title says... Nice to see and be there.

I was in town to visit a friend that I haven’t seen for over five years and she brought me to this cute little bar restaurant that was amazing. You will not be sorry to go and have a few drinks and watch the ocean. Our waiter Dalton was absolutely wonderful. Being from Las Vegas I know what good service is all about. Thank you Dalton for making our afternoon amazing

The beach itself is beautiful but there are so many mentally ill homeless people that we wont be returning. During our 3 day stay, we had an angry person with a huge rock who seemed like he was going to throw it as someone, we had someone tell my husband at 8:30 am to stop "pixelating" and told us all we were demons. My daughter was screamed at the public bathrooms at the beach . There was a homeless person who was ranting at a restaurant on the boardwalk while people were trying to eat. There was also a person on the boardwalk who spent over 8 hours going in a circle and ranting to himself.

Walk or drive and see all the Christmas light along the boardwalk there is a lot of time put into setting this up but worth the visit.

Beautiful paved walkway with a wide beach and ocean on one side with well kept gardens, a bike path and hotels on the other. Several of the hotels have bars and/or restaurants just steps away. And there are many more options one block west on the main drag. Don't miss the statue of King Neptune.
Concerts and other events are scheduled on the beach throughout the summer that will likely clog the walkway.
Navy jets flew overhead in groups of 1, 2 or 3 every 20 minutes during daylight hours. So many, that most visitors did not even look up to see like I did every time! Look way ahead of the noise.

The lower end of the boardwalk (opposite end of the pier) is lovely and family oriented. Nice and clean hotels, no litter, and some great bars and restaurants. After getting closer to the pier, lots of young people partying and more riff-raff. The skunk smell from Marijuana is all over the place at the pier end of town. You'll hardly ever see the cops on bicycles opposite end of the pier. Up at the pier side, lots of cops doing their job.

Clean. Well maintained. Even though schools aren’t quite open there were lots of space on the beach and the town does a good job to keep the beach clean. Police presence is well established so keeps tourists safe.

This is a really nice boardwalk. There are only hotels and restaurants next to the boardwalk and typical tourist traps (food, ice cream, souvenirs) are one block away. You have to make a deliberate effort to get yourself into an environment where the kids start nagging to enter every single store to buy useless stuff. That makes it easier to walk up and down the boardwalk, enjoy the views and the breeze. I highly recommend waking up early to see the dolphins and the sunrise.

this was a very nice place to walk. We also liked the rickshaw ride, though we weren't able to go far without tiring. The view from the boardwalk, plus the statues along the way, were well worth the trip

The Virginia Beach boardwalk (actually concrete) was in good condition. The 2 drawbacks were: homeless people were sleeping on the benches and there were a few panhandlers asking for money. We rented bicycles and rode the length of it. The town keeps the beach in beautifully manicured condition.

For this NJ boy, it was odd to hear this described as a "boardwalk" as there were no actual wooden boards (it's actually a wide cement promenade), but it was very clean and I am happy to say that I power walked the entire 5.4 roundtrip walk! Also, unlike NJ boardwalks, there are no amusement rides and stores (they are a block back on Atlantic) but there are plenty of ocean front bars and restaurants at the hotel high rises along this boardwalk. There are public restrooms as well. There are many works of art, not the least of which is the spectacular Neptune statue! There is an adjacent bike path to the boardwalk although many rode their bikes on the boardwalk proper. There were some shops on the huge pier on the boardwalk. There were also some excellent street performers on the boardwalk. We were there in October, so I'm guessing in season that this boardwalk has much more to offer with vendors and performers. Loved it!

Was vestry good to see but parking is not that easy. Boardwalk is very clean and very nice to walk on.

Very interesting place to sit and watch the people walk, skate, jog, skate board, or dance by! Even had a man with a remote controlled car race it up and down the beach and the board walk. You can even sit there and watch the Naval Jets fly above you.

We spent the day taking pictures and having an amazing lunch and very reasonable priced drinks. Also, the bike trail is off the boardwalk so it's separate

I absolutely loved the boardwalk! So many different kinds of bicycles, electric skateboards and people! Everything was within walking distance of our room.

I had a great time!! Kaylee, my Uber driver was awesome!! The board walk is cool. I had duck donuts at the ocean front. Amazing!!!! Great time overall

Beautiful walk! Nice beach, not to expensive. Parking was difficult but typical for a beach. Definitely want to go back again.

I love how modern the boardwalk is. From walking the beach holding hands or walking the paved strip to cycling on the cycle area. They have statutes and their meaning for tourists to better understand. They even have restaurants. There’s even a place for the kids to play at the playground.

Only beach I know that has divided the board walk area in two for greater safety of bike riders and walkers. Unique and very nice.

My husband and I picked the off season to visit Virginia Beach, and it was great. We were able to walk for hours on the boardwalk and enjoy the beautiful views.

Great boardwalk and relaxed vibe. Fun area! Everything within walking distance. Ocean always a plus!

Board walk dog friendly, bike friendly and family friendly. The board walk is pretty wide and it also has a side bike road. We enjoyed walking in the mornings and evenings. Pretty peaceful listening to the waves as you walk. There is a fisherman’s pier and you can walk on it if u pay $3.

Beautiful! Nice place to relax. Love the sound of the ocean. Clean sand and beautiful beach. Will definitely be back!

If you're staying at one of the ocean front hotels, there is nothing better than walking the boardwalk. Separate bike lanes keep it safe for those walking or running, and it is very well groomed. Parking can be limited if driving in, so have a plan ahead of time. LOTS of souvenir shops across from the hotel, but thankfully, the beach side is limited to bars, restaurants and museums.

Very ghetto beach. Some random woman got in my face trying to start with me because I accidentally made eye contact with her on the boardwalk. I don’t feel safe here especially at night. I would just drive 5 hours or more to find a non ghetto environment! Also the beach it self if very dirty and too many random men cat calling women. Was also body shamed and sexually harassed! Not safe for women or girls.

Beautiful location with plenty to do! Great hotels, excellent restaurants, amazing views…keep an eye out for dolphin, and bring your bike!

Virginia beach was beautiful!! Super clean no seaweed etc. The boardwalk was just a bonus!! You can walk the beach or you can walk on the boardwalk with lots of fun things to see!!!

Lovely, well-kept boardwalk during the day. Has a separate bike path, which is really nice, although motorized one-wheeled scooters weave among the walkers. Also walked it for a long ways at night, and it was a little seedy, with multiple marijuana smokers. Not really what I would want for a child (or myself, really).

Very picturesque and romantic to go for a stroll. We we're lucky to see fighter jets flying overhead. We truly loved it!!

it may depend on which part you are walking but we experienced some unruly and impolite behavior from other visitors to this area.

The amenities are amazing. On the boardwalk side is a wide concrete area for strolling up and down the western edge of a dune free very wide and level beach. A parallel bike lane keeps the cycles and pedestrians separated ….for the most part. Some tourists on rented bikes apparently can’t read but there is plenty of room regardless. Choice of restaurants will not disappoint. And if you are just visiting for the day the ample and close parking garages make it so easy. What forethought into a beach town trying to draw tourists. Well done! Volleyball tournaments and the 59 annual east coast surfing competition made for an entertaining weekend.

Beautiful boardwalk that goes for miles. Only thing missing are fun places to stop and grab a drink. I hope it has this during the summer months. Would be great to grab a beer and listen to a band.

Why any town would allow dogs on the beach in the center of town where all the hotels and activities are..., I have no idea. Virginia beach boasts "dog friendly". OK, but all weekend I watched dogs poop on the beach and around the boardwalk. I was completely turned off by seeing the 2 dogs in the picture ( zoom in) pooping on the beach, then I saw more and more dogs led to the beach by the owners to poop. I don't want to go on the beach if it's used as a doggie toilet.

This is a nice place to get some steps in! The beach is beautiful and the restaurants along the boardwalk are top notch. We enjoyed walking and spotting dolphins. The parking was not labeled clearly but we believe it's free and first come first served in the off-season...unfortunately, bathrooms aren't always open on the off-season either. The playgrounds were nice along the way. We weren't there for the night but it looked like the lights would be a fun addition to your seasonal celebrations for Christmas!

It's a cementwalk, which isn't ever going to be as nice. Stretching 3 miles from the end at 1st street (at the inlet) and Grommet Park, to around 40th street and the site of the new Embassy Suites hotel (under construction). Nice and wide, with a separate bike path. But the bikes don't seem to care much about that.
Smooth surface and kept clean and under good repair. You've got hotels and monuments on one side and the beach on the other side

Virtually a ghost town which was perfect for us. People kept their distance and observed guidelines.

Love how clean the beach and boardwalk is .
Plenty of beach loungers and covers.
Very friendly and lots of fun

I visited the boardwalk during the pandemic and it was nice that the boardwalk was very wide so one could keep distance from others. I walked up and down every day that I stayed in the area. Lots of history markers and landmarks to learn and you walk.

Well what can I say that I did not say last year....
This boardwalk is one of the cleanest I have seen. The City of VB takes care of the boardwalk a d the beach. The public restrooms were beyond clean as was the sand, boardwalk, and ocean.
My husband and I had a great time. Lots to see and do despite the COVID-19 Pandemic. People had on their masks and kept their distance. It was great.

Clean, safe, scenic even during Christmas week. Can't wait to return when the weather warms and the place is in full swing.

We took a short trip to VA Beach and found the boardwalk area to have a different vibe than some of the other Beach areas we've been to recently such as Myrtle Beach and Beaches in Florida. Even during a holiday weekend traffic wasn't overwhelming and there wasn't an over abundance of some of the tourist trap stuff you see at other Beach areas. We found it to be very family friendly and most importantly for our trip, pet friendly. We were happy to see many other with their dogs (all sizes). The boardwalk is 28 feet wide so there plenty of room to spread out and there is a separate path for bikes, skaters, etc. Lots of free entertainment on the weekends and plenty of eateries along the boardwalk. Worth the visit!

Was there for two weeks and walk the boardwalk every day. My favorite thing to do in Virginia Beach. You will walk your feet off and enjoy every minute of it just feet from the ocean.

Visited on our Big 2022 Road Trip. Lots to see, do, buy, and eat, and lots to park in, too (that also will take your money). A good way to spend a summer afternoon.

One of THE BEST family moments are in Virginia Beach. Its sandy and just beachy! It is the BOMB of all family vacations.

Beach was nice but homeless people all over the boardwalk and sleeping in store entranced on Atlantic asking for money and cigarettes. Also, a woman was pooping in a bucket beside the parking area on 20th and Atlantic.

I live near the Jersey Shore, and this is NO Boardwalk. It's paved with asphalt. No wooden boards. Nevertheless, it's 3 miles long end to end. There are no amusements nor stores along this walk; it's strictly condominiums and hotels. There are some touristy shops and restaurants along parallel Atlantic and Pacific Avenues and on some of the numbered side streets. I did have a pleasurable walk on a hot afternoon. The numerous tall buildings block out the hot sun causing the breeze from the ocean to be dominant.
There is a separate path for bicycles, which presumably would keep walkers and riders in separate environments, but just like so many other rules in the world, this needs to be enforced for it to be effective. Despite numerous signs, I observed some bicyclists on the walkway and walkers on the bikeway.
Good for walking and for access to the beach, but don't expect the atmosphere you would find in places like New Jersey or New York.

The boardwalk is a beautiful stretch along the shore with plenty of restaurant options nearby. We were impressed with the size of the boardwalk & that they offer separate lanes for walking and bicycling. However, even though there is sufficient signage we still encountered several bicyclists on the pedestrian walkway. If you need a break or just want to sit and people watch there were many benches along the boardwalk. There are also numerous access points to the beach. We were happy that dogs were welcome to go on the beach and that the beach was very clean. The activity level and noise level increased as early evening approached. It was a great place to spend the day.

I don't think you can go wrong going here. The beach is beautiful and very well maintained by the city. Every morning before sunrise, there is a tractor cleaning the beach. The landscape along the boardwalk is picture perfect. We usually go to the Gulf when we go the beach so the brown sand was great. You can actually walk out on the beach without sunglasses without being blinded. Now, to the dislikes, there are homeless on the boardwalk sometimes passed out on the benches, and some people smoking pot on the beach. One morning, we went out to watch the sunrise and ended up watching a drunk guy wake up, took a drink of vodka and staggered away leaving his trash there for someone to pick up. Virginia Beach is a beautiful place, I hope they will take care of these problems before it gets worse.

We could literally see the boardwalk from our room and the ocean and it was just wonderful!
The hotel concierge extraordinaire MrJoseph EWS super helpful with recommendations for eateries as well as local restaurant flare.

A nice cement boardwalk. It's very nice and cool to walk along in the evening. Its very long as I never got to the farthest end. Great views of the ocean .

Charge less or give people their money's worth. Not worth the price. Huge disappointment. Save your money.

Was able to spend a morning walking the beach, very clean, seashell hunting, very cool to see sandpipers running the beach, seagulls walking with us, and an amazing statue with info plaque, a must do if you visit Virginia

The Virginia Beach boardwalk is one of the few boardwalks that I’ve seen that has its own dedicated bike trail.
If you bike up and down the beach, roughly 2 1/2 times that would easily cover your one hour rental of a bicycle.
Bike rental rates usually run about $12 an hour, but carefully inspect your bike tires. Before taking the bicycle away from the bike rental, make sure that there’s plenty of air in the tire. The tire should be almost stiff as a rock - not squishy.

Walking! Take your time! Watch the sunsets. We had an awesome time walking the boardwalk! Live music everywhere! Carnival rides!

Enjoyed everything along the boardwalk in winter or summer. Great bike path and fun events, in addition to wonderful views of the sunrise, moonrise, dolphins, the pier, and more.

I paid top dollar for the holiday and couldn't even sit on my balcony due to the panhandlers masquerading as musicians. Extremely disappointed to watch beach police just walk or ride by and not put a stop to it. This was never allowed in years past. If it was good, I would acknowledge. It wasn't. We were subjected to the screeching for 5 days straight.

The boardwalk is great - I like the way there are entryways/exits at most every street that crosses Atlantic. I was also impressed at how nicely it is maintained - I noticed clean-up crews out early each morning picking up trash and emptying containers. There were even vehicles out on the beach smoothing the sand and collecting trash.

Not only do you have plenty of room to walk on the boardwalk, but you also have the beach to walk on as well. You can look at the ocean, the ships, and of course people watch. There is a designated bike path as well. Great to separate the bikers from the walkers.

This was our first visit to Virginia Beach. It was a very family oriented beach. It was not overcrowded and I was impressed with how clean it was. I loved that there were almost no shops on the boardwalk. I think this added to the family feel. Most shops, bars, and restaurants were located on the next street. This kept the boardwalk cleaner and free from drama. I was surprised to see the number of pet owner who brought their dog to the beach.

The boardwalk is always clean and easily accessible. It's wide enough for comfort and during the holidays they have a spectacular light display.

Walking the boardwalk. People watching
Cruising on the bicycles.
Watching the surfers and the porpoises.

This is our third time to Virginia Beach. It has the best boardwalk on the East Coast. There is separate bike path that runs along the boardwalk.

We spent 3 nights at the Springhill Suites and were extremely happy with the area, the cleanliness and atmosphere. Nice wide concrete walk and a paved trail for bikes.

I love the boardwalk, love walking looking at the water, watching bikers ride in their own path, benches every block to every half block where you can just sit, the board walk is so clean people are friendly the views are really nice

Very nice and so relax to sit on the beach and clean It’s worth to go for a vacation.. might like go back again

Nice wide concrete Walking path that is very well lit at night. Nice for walking, riding bikes, etc.

Boardwalk nice length for a bike ride or just a pretty walk. Lots to see and do along the way. Many shops and restaurants to check out. Also, the pier.

Good hotel, and staff. Verry relaxing, good food, and hotel rooms are good.
We will return, next yeah

My first time here in over 40 years. Clean, long and a fantastic beach. Lots of bicycles on a separate pathway, and tons of hotels and restaurants. Very family friendly. Well worth a visit

The VA Boardwalk is worth going out of your way to see. A broad 3-mile'ish concrete Boardwalk with a separate paved bike path. Lots of benches for sitting and people watching. Hoards of hotels right on the boardwalk and many many other shops and restaurants just one block off the Boardwalk. Prepare for Boardwalk pricing if you decide to eat or drink. I think our bill for 2 single scoops of ice cream came to just under $15 at B&J's.

We were able to access the boardwalk from our hotel and walk everywhere with easy access to the street where most restaurants and shoppes are. There are lots of areas to get to the beach and water. The side streets have themed decorations.

Plenty wide enough for everyone moving up and down the boardwalk. Easy beach access on one side and places to eat on the other side, mixed in with the hotels.

Love this place, and hope to come back here again. We were here Thanksgiving eve and was able to enjoy eating out and seeing the Christmas lights on the beach. The room was wonderful looking over the ocean and the sunrise was beautiful. We will be back.

We have been visiting this area at some point for the last 3 decades. The Boardwalk has always been a high point, especially in the morning. That’s the best time to go for a walk, bike ride, or run. The ocean view is breathtaking and the people are always friendly who are out there. There are some really nice restaurants along that path as well. We love Rock Fish! When the Boardwalk starts to heat up and get crowded, we’re either on the beach 🏖️🌊 or back in our hotel room.

The boardwalk is wide and flat and has a separate bike lane. It’s great for walking, running, biking, skateboarding and things like that. But other than that , there isn’t much to do. It’s mostly hotels and restaurants. It’s definitely not like the jersey shore boardwalk with games and shops.

Weather was great/ beach was immaculate/ cleaned every morning/ not as crowded as most well known beaches/ nightly entertainment for free as you walk the strip/ Great Boardwalk for bicycles/ skateboards/ and walking- really a nice time!! If possible, stay at a beachfront hotel or one very close to the beach-

Absolutely LOVE the boardwalk. My go to every vacation it’s a must. I would be miserable if I couldn’t go.

The boardwalk is nice and clear but it is not like other boardwalks such as Ocean City. Its not a huge atmosphere like you would guess. I still recommend walking down it and seeing the views.

The boardwalk area was very clean well kept. On my day there I took a long walk with my sister. Nice

A beautiful, sandy beach with easy rolling waves in places. The concrete boardwalk is very wide, with plenty of parking available within a block.
The beach was very clean with some small shells for beach combers.

Even though I have lived in VA for 20 years, I really hadn't explored the Boardwalk. It used to have a reputation for being a little sketchy, but when I visited last week with two adult female friends and two young teen girls, we felt completely safe and enjoyed an evening stroll. Hotels and restaurants were open with music flowing out and created a great vibe. Had ice cream and enjoyed the sounds of the ocean. Everything was perfectly maintained and clean.

The concrete and asphalt boardwalk runs along the beach for several miles and is used by everyone. Walkers, joggers, skateboards, bicycles, and strollers are there from early morning until late at night. It's divided so that there's one section for bicycles and one for everyone else, but we found that many people ignored that and just went wherever they felt like going. It is well lit and crowded enough to feel safe. We saw very few panhandlers or indigent people. There are even outdoor showers located here and there for beachgoers, and every few blocks you can see sculptures and works of art.

Nice boardwalk to walk along on a sunny day. Everything looked cleaned, even the bathrooms, and water stations sprinkled around. Walked to the huge Statue of King Neptune.

Well managed beach and boardwalk.mostly for walking.not much commercial stuffs but one can ride bikes and rented tricycles.

Hi, this was our first visit and don’t visit the board walk. It sucks. The beach area is dirty, trashy, and dilapidated. The groups that walked there are seedy, exposed much skin, and may not be family friendly.
Real disappointment. It has great potential but the lack of planning, oversight, and key management has stolen this from the public. Government officials should be ashamed off this terrible example poor management.

The boardwalk is amazing so pretty especially if you want a good walk/run they have seats so you can sit watch the ocean

You can't go to Virginia beach without a trip to the boardwalk. Easy walking along a pristine beach. Mile markers available for walkers. Restaurants and shops easy access.

This boardwalk isn’t like any other boardwalk I’ve ever been on. There are no shops or places to grab food and sit on a bench and eat. No ice cream, coffee, etc. No attractions. If you want any of this, you have to walk a block down from the boardwalk and walk up and down the street. However, the “boardwalk” is very clean and well kept. I’ve read a few reviews of homeless people on the area. I only saw 3 the entire time in the area on 2 different days. If you’re looking for a place to walk your dog and take in some ocean views, this is really all that there is.

Besides the beach there enty of places to rent everything from bikes to paddle boards and jets skis. The Boardwalk is quite long and lined with not just hotels but also shops and restaurants. One end has a fishing pier that does have a fee even if you just want to site see and not fish. The good thing is that if you do want to fish you don't need a license. Grommet park is a nice play area for the little ones. There are also free concerts during yhe summer. Nice place to spend a family vacation.

The boardwalk always is fun to stroll along. But this time of year a significant stretch of it is used at night for cars to ride on so people can see all of the lighted displays placed on the beach. Well worth a trip.

We had fun walking and scooting down the boardwalk, which wasn’t too crowded after Christmas. Seems like the bike rentals are closed for season or out of business, which was sad for my little guys who wanted to ride a surrey.

We made reservations to take the drive down the boardwalk to view all the Christmas lights. The city did an amazing job with miles of lights and action displays on both the ocean side and business side of the boardwalk. The traffic moved rather slowly because you could stop in your car and get hot chocolate or other treats. While it was a great experience I would recommend anyone who does this next year stay in the ocean side lane as the vendors are on the business side lane.

You can't even smell the beach with all the Marijuana being smoked. As soon as you walk out of the overpriced restaurants you can smell it. I wouldn't be surprised if you can smell it from the balconies. Save your money or go somewhere else.

Its a nice 3+ mile boardwalk (cement) with lots of beach entrances and a few (very few) places to grab a drink or food. Almost all shopping and eateries are on the other side of the hotels block, on Atlantic Avenue, which means the boardwalk is mostly uncluttered. Some nightly entertainment during the season at the small pavilions located every 20 blocks or so. A lot of wash areas to clean yourself off from the beach, and public restrooms scattered every 10 blocks or so. A lot of skateboarders and other misc. riders, although there is a separate bike line that is supposed to be used. Overall, it's pretty nice.

It was a windy but beautiful day to be at the beach. The waves was crashing the beach and it wasn't crowded.

So many things to do - ride bikes, swim, kids have play areas and great boardwalk restaurants. Definitely a go to!

Nice walk, a lot of food choices, live music along the way, access to the beach every block with ramps for strollers and wagons, a separate bike lane along side

Very clean beach. Boardwalk is very wide with separate bike path. Lots of hotels and restaurants. Loved it.

Great walk with the family and there are some shower areas in case you have sandy feet. It wasn’t overly busy while we were there but watch for golf carts of people working on the beach and others who are biking. Makes for a great place to walk when the sun is laying low.

The wide walkway and wonderful people who I met there. I walked it every day for two weeks. Will return.

The boardwalk is great. You can walk from one side of Virginia Beach almost to the other in front of the ocean. There are lots of restaurants and bars along the way, which makes walking a great option. There is one main problem though. When you walk down the boardwalk you will smell weed every minute or two.

We used to enjoy going to Virginia Beach, as it was clean and people were well mannered. This past weekend we had a very bad experience. Atlantic Avenue was not only crowded but felt very dangerous with many loud cars cruising up and down the street, yelling at people on the sidewalks, groups of young people walking and taking up the whole sidewalk so you had to go around them and just general rudeness. The boardwalk which is supposed to be for walking only , had many bikers on it, even though there is a separate bike path. Skateboarders, which are not supposed to be allowed, were very prevalent and did not seem to mind nearly knocking people over who were in their way. We even tried biking on the bike path but there were so many pedestrians and skateboarders on that as well that we just gave up. I have no desire to go back ever.

It was wonderful walking the boardwalk everyday. We even got up one day and watched the sunrise-just gorgeous!!! Lots of restraints, places to rent bikes and art work/signs to mark intersecting streets. It was off season (the way we like it) and not too crowded.

Wish we were able to stay longer - beach was fun. Spent the day, sat in the sun, played in the ocean. We hung by the Neptune Statue and in the evening a band came to play. Also walking to dinner we were able to here singers and entertainers - all provided by the city. A great way to end the last day of vacation after a week of touring.

VA Beach boardwalk is a pleasant place for quality family time, a run/walk or even to just sit and take in the ocean views.
Boardwalk is just a legacy term it seems as the modern day build is made out of concrete I think and clearly reinforced to sustain the might of hurricanes/adverse weather. Smart move but doesn’t have the old timely feel of wooden boards. The bike path adjacent to the walkway is a great touch though.
In terms of food options and hotels.. you have a plethora to pick from covering all different price ranges. Plenty of walking and handicap access points for the boardwalk into the sand too.
Only reasons I couldn’t quite give it 5 stars include a chaotic parking situation to access the boardwalk, unwieldy crowds during peak summertime and it isn’t quite as clean as I remember.
Regardless, it’s still worth a visit if you’re in the Hampton Roads area.

The boardwalk itself is a nice walk along the beach. But it is not a boardwalk like Ocean City, MD. The boardwalk is a cement walkway with a beautiful view of the ocean on one side and large hotels on the other. The shopping is minimal along this walk, but the statues and other memorial areas are beautiful! If you want to shop, you are a street back from the walk, which kinda sucks. It is just a different feel than OC, OC's walk is just a bit nicer experience with all the shops right there.

The boardwalk area was very clean, as was the beach. Busy but not wall to wall people. I was surprised by the lack of public restrooms. We came down for the day and had a difficult time finding a place to change clothes.

We came for a short trip! Great spot for kids and families. Great food options. Fun little souvenir shops. Has a separate bike path and we loved riding our bikes on it! Beach was clean.

3 mile walk along the ocean. It's not a "board" walk, it's a broad concrete sidewalk. Lots of hotels and a few restaurants. Most of the shops and eateries are on Atlantic.

We always heard about Virginia Beach, and we always passed by without stopping. This time we wanted to see it for ourselves.
We were very impressed. We loved it. The beach is large and beautiful; the boardwalk is also large, beautiful. IT IS CLEAN. There is space for bicycles.
There are restaurants along the boardwalk.
As of now, for me, it is the best beach I saw in Florida. We still have some more to visit.

Boardwalk was great. Tons of activities, places to dine and pubs to have a drink. The only bad thing was the constant smell of freshly burnt marijuana. It is what it is.

This boardwalk is great. It's always clean and free of litter. There are plenty of areas to go off onto the beach.

Enjoyed our 3 days vacation on the boardwalk. Watching sunrise from our hotel balcony was a highlight. Love that there is a separate bike route so we could walk on the boardwalk without paying much attention to the traffic which allowed us to fully enjoy the ocean and beach. Hotels and landscape are well maintained, gardens are so beautiful. Worth the drive!

Decided to say goodbye to summer at the beach. Enjoyed renting a bicycle surrey and peddling the bike path along the boardwalk. Stopped along the way to take some pictures and the “beach ball” and “sea turtle” sculptures. Nice to have the bike path off the boardwalk-proper.
The boardwalk is cement, but wide and long along the beach. Easy walking and plenty wide for all the beach goers to maintain social distancing

Pleasant boardwalk. Usual variety of stores and food stalls. A wide variety of people. Good restaurants nearby. Available parking.

Safe and comfortable. Plenty of benches to sit on. Lane for biking and walking. Because many of the shops are not directly on the boardwalk it wasn’t overly crowded.

Go for a run, a ride, a stroll, or just sit along the boardwalk and bask in the sunlight and fresh air. I love it here.

Spent a couple of hours strolling up and down the boardwalk, which was well maintained with lots to see. We were there off season and a lot of the amenities were closed for the season, but it was easy to imagine that it would be a popular place in high season. Right on the Atlantic it was a pleasant place to spend some time.

The Virginia Beach Boardwalk is a year-round place to go. In the Pre-Post and Summertime, it is THE place to be. So much to do, see, eat and 'catch some fun in the sun'. Visited as a small child and back for 50+ years. Make this your Adventure too!

All I can say is...Its paved!!! We loved that. It also has a bike lane for those that take advantage of the cycles.

We stayed here for the holiday and decided to drive the light display. It was really nice driving on the boardwalk and looking at the lights with our family.

Love visiting the beach and boardwalk, people watching and the many photo opps along the way!
Only turn off for me is the overly friendly relentless pushy sales people at the end of the pier. No thank you doesn’t work even said twice and it deters us from going to the pier.

Virginia Beach is a great beach for family vacations and trips with friends. Massive shoreline and boardwalk with so many restaurants/bars and plenty of shopping. Highly recommend when going to a beach in Virginia and on East Coast

It may be still during the Covid pandemic but Virginia Beach is as beautiful as always! Restaurants and hotel have mask requirements and social distancing. The beach is plenty big to have your own space. We stayed on the boardwalk at a hotel that had a partial boardwalk to the beach as well which was very helpful. Beach was clean and well-maintained as well as the boardwalk and the hotels! I like this boardwalk better than Atlantic City or Wildwood - because I like the cement not those bumpy real wood boards and the separate biking path is great - as you can ride bike all day not just a few hours in the morning!

Nice set up with separate paths for walking verses biking, although there did not appear to be any enforcement of the no bikes and skateboard rules. Very clean and well kept, plenty of hotels and places to eat or grab a drink ocean front.

Not really a boardwalk, but close enough. However if you enjoy homeless and runaways in an ocean environment then this might be the place for you.

This is where I grew up, where I remember running along the boardwalk, and where my son has done the same. The best time is October through April- non-tourist season because you really just get to enjoy the beauty of the beach, the seagulls, and the salty air. It is just incredible and my favorite place to be!

Had a great walk along the Boardwalk. Loved the statues and salute to our nations military. Wonderful place to take a walk.

Waiting to see if SANDSTOCK 2021 will take place, hope it does
es !! We come every year, so disappointed that last year was canceled.

This was a very long boardwalk (several miles from one end to the next). We had dinner at a seafood restaurant (Waterman's). Afterwards we decided to walk down to the Neptune statue. It was just under 2 miles one way. But there was so much to see along the way my daughter never complained. It was a Wednesday evening but there were several live bands doing shows. There were several smaller sculpturers to get pictures with along the path. We also found play grounds and even an event being set up for movies on the beach. The next day we swam on the beach and were able to walk down to a hot dog vendor to grab lunch on the beach and that evening we rented a multi-person bike. That afternoon there had been thunderstorms (with more predicted) so the boardwalk was much quieter (no bands) but still very nice to bike along. One street over from the boardwalk were a lot of your traditionally touristy stuff (t-shirt shops, amusement rides, etc) and you were able to access at every block or so.

Very nice and wide concrete boardwalk with an adjacent bike path. In the evening Christmas light were on display and a drive on the boardwalk was possible to view them. During the day a walk on the boardwalk was very enjoyable with periodic displays. Several rest areas were available with very clean restrooms.

We walked on the boardwalk and they also have a sidewalk for bikes. Very clean and their are lots of Navy Memorial sights to see. The Naval Academy is nearby do lots of jets fly over all day

This is a great boardwalk. Although we don't have little ones it seems to be a very family friendly boardwalk on the beach. Although I felt very safe, it would have been nice to see some police/ security presence as some people ignored the very obvious frequent signs as to where the bike path was. Come on really people. Also although lots of signage about NO skateboards, people ignored this too. Otherwise again, very family oriented.

I really enjoyed two days of morning walks on the boardwalk. Only drawback was the amount of people sleeping everywhere, boardwalk and on Atlantic Ave. Do they want to be there or is there no place for them to sleep. None bothered me, but the number I saw was staggering.

The Virginia Beach Boardwalk is a fantastic place to visit, offering stunning ocean views, a lively atmosphere, and plenty of activities for all ages. The boardwalk is wide and well-maintained, perfect for walking, jogging, or biking. There are many restaurants, cafes, and shops along the way, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy the seaside vibe.
I especially loved the beautiful sunrise views and the various street performers adding to the lively ambiance. The Neptune Statue is a must-see, and there are plenty of benches to sit and take in the ocean breeze.
Whether you’re visiting for a peaceful stroll or some fun activities, the Virginia Beach Boardwalk is definitely worth experiencing!

This beach gets high ratings for the sand quality, how long is it so that it doesn’t feel crowded, width of the beach, etc but I was a tad disappointed by the lack of fun and excitement of a typical boardwalk. High points: separate pedestrian and bike lane, water fountain and washing stations, benches, Low points: don’t expect a fun electric vibe of a wooden boardwalk with arcades, amusement parks, boardwalk fries, gift shops, ice cream stores, etc in a concentrated area -it’s too quiet and lack of energy at lease for me, $4 just to enter the fishing pier on 18th street, it’s mainly hotels and condos that front the boardwalk with shops and restaurants spread out. Furthermore the boardwalk was concrete all the way from top to bottom, miss the wooden feel of a typical boardwalk. It’s a boardwalk that appeals to some and not everyone.

Very clean. Many families walking & enjoying the beach view. Also, people riding bikes, in a bike lane & many others walking & running for exercise! Great place.

Great place for free family action. We felt safe and plenty to eat up and down. Showers are conveniently located as soon as you get off beach

Virginia Beach Boardwalk is the ideal place to enjoy with your family. The beach has an excellent water temperature and somewhat strong waves, but very fun for those looking for a little excitement.
The Mood is very familiar, and there are all kinds of shops and restaurants around, so you won't miss anything. I recommend arriving early to enjoy the beach and, in the afternoon, walking along the boardwalk, taking photos and enjoying the concerts and street performances that make each night something special.
Private parking costs $30 for the whole day and is within walking distance of the beach – it’s worth it if you’re going with kids or many things! There is also public parking for $20, although a little further away.
Ideal for me: arrive on a Friday morning and stay at a hotel near the beach that includes a garage (about $75 a night per person). So you can stay until Sunday afternoon and make the most of the weekend.
In summer, there are always concerts by renowned artists, perfect to close the day with live music and a good Mood!
Definitely a fate worth repeating.

If you love the sound of LOUD, FAST JETS flying OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN FOR ALL HOURS OF THE DAY AND NIGHT, THEN COME WASTE YOUR MONEY AND YOUR SLEEP AT VIRGINIA BEACH!! These are your hundreds of millions of tax dollars being spent on non-stop jets to terrorize you day and night if you visit VA Beach!! If it were up to me, I'd actually go somewhere else where I could actually enjoy the beach and relax.

If you want a good place to ride a bike or just stroll around then this is a great place. However if you want to do some shopping on the boardwalk I hope you're shopping for hotels. The shopping here stinks.

Well, we only came for the day. The beach itself is OK. The waves didn't lend themselves to any body surfing (but I don't know if that's standard). The "boardwalk" is a cement walkway that stretches several miles. Be mindful of the bike path that runs parallel to it or you could be in for an unpleasant collision. The stores and restaurants are one block inland behind the rows of hotels that line the beach. Parking can be had for $10 if you care to look; our lot was less than 2 blocks off the beach and right in the middle of the strip.
Got some delicious fudge on the pier that we brought home with us!

This is a lovely stroll . There are artworks every few blocks. Great photo opportunities. You can also rent bikes or pedal carts with covers

Technically this is a sidewalk as it is made of cement. However, they can call it whatever they want. Very nice and well maintained walk with easy access to the beach. Lots of hotels, stores, bar and grills, and parks along the way. We enjoyed walking up and down and checking out the area.

I absolutely love this board walk!! 3 miles of stores, board walk, and food. The beach is amazingly clean and the water is perfect. There is something to do for everyone. This is our place to be every year for vacation. It's super safe as well; very family friendly! They also have so many hotels to choose from. You can't go wrong coming to VA Beach for your next vacation.

The boardwalk is great, right along thee we beach. People, bikes, dogs, skaters-lots of people watching. However I longed for a shady spot to just rest a bit We watched the chalk painters which was great and created our own
Fun boardwalk
Family friendly and fun to walk along side the beach. My kids loved walking to see the Poseidon statue.
