1 of 87 Best Attractions in Sausalito

This is a #! attraction for tourists' photos. You can see across the beautiful bridge and the strait to the City beyond. It is almost always windy and cold here. You can park here and walk as far as you like and the weather allows on the Bridge.

When visiting my son who lives in the area, we look for elevated spots for viewing. OMG! The views were more spectacular than we could have imagined. Fortunately, the day was clear and we hiked up to the top of the point for the best vantage point. A big ship was going under the bridge, while a tiny sailboat was battling the wind coming out from the bay. We could see far out to the horizon in the ocean and all the way to Oakland. We took amazing photos, and I am quite sure this is a favorite spot for the millions who have visited over the years. My recommendation is to go to the top. Parking was not an issue, as people come and go. A must-see in the area.

Great on our way back to SF, but best to wait till after lunch as the mist obscures all the views. You and walk or cycle over but th best views are had once you are across the bridge.

It’s easy by car, driving towards Sausalito, to turn-off at Vista Point after crossing the bridge. It’s a spacious pullout with angle parking and washroom facilities with views over the water towards the SF cityscape and Alcatraz. One can look down the hill to see a lighthouse near the bridge abutment, but I didn’t see any signs for accessing a path to it from the parking lot. Birdwatchers using binoculars might be able to see migrating eagles in October on the Marin Hills opposite the viewpoint stop.
Although the view across the water was interesting, I was more fascinated with the view of the bridge traffic. The reddish orange colored bridge has 3 lanes of traffic in each direction that were flowing smoothly at 9:30am on a Saturday. Sidewalks were available on both sides of the bridge, and, interestingly, were occupied by many walkers probably just wanting the experience of walking across the bridge. There is nothing for walkers to see, visit or do on the Sausalito side unlike on the SF side of the bridge. Although the bridge deck looks straight from afar, from this position, one can see an incline. For us, Vista Point was a 20 minute photo-stop.

Wow! Great way to see the Golden Gate bridge and cityscape of San Francisco! Access to bridge from parking lot....you can walk out along the bridge as far as you wish. Spots to stop and take pictures....quite windy out on the bridge...watch out for bicyclists!!!! (They yell and ride up on you even in tight narrow places where everyone is taking turns to pass!!) We found parking easy...midafternoon on a weekday. Restrooms available.

Had a great time at the Vista Point and Welcome Center - took a great stroll across the bridge! Highly recommend!

Few steps from the Golden Gate, you find this panoramic square, with a stunning view of the bay and San Francisco.
Very strong winds, pay attention to the phones!!!!
Free parking on the place.

This is an easy to get to (but only from the south) vista point. The view of the Golden Gate Bridge is awkward and not the best. However, the view of San Francisco and the bridge to Oakland is fantastic. There is plenty of parking and restrooms are available.

We arrived here aboard our Big Bus tour. It was a great place to take pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge and to view San Francisco from the opposite side of the bay. We then proceeded on to Sausalito where we had a very relaxing afternoon with terrific views.

The views from the Vista Point are awesome. Make sure you bring your camera and wear something to break the wind! It is a great way to see the Golden Gate Bridge

To reach Conzelman Road take the Alexander Ave., Sausalito exit. Coming from the north, it is the last exit before crossing the Golden Gate Bridge. Coming from the south, it is the second exit (Vista Point is the first) after you cross the Golden Gate Bridge. Your only interest in Alexander Road is that it goes south and west to Conzelman Road.
Conzelman Road winds its way up the hillside providing along the way several wonderful vistas of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco. It also is the way to the Bonita Point Lighthouse.
TIPS:
1. Late afternoon is best because you will have the sun behind you in the lower western sky creating neat shadows and lighting for photos. The downside is that everyone knows this and parking at the turnouts along Conzelman Road can become very competitive to the point of being impossible. On holiday weekends, local cops are even stationed at these turnouts to prevent people hurting each other jockeying for the few parking spots available.
2. The views are better the lower you are. Therefore, the very best spot is the first parking lot to your left as you begin your ascent up Conzelman Road. Once you are parked, you walk up the hill and the Golden Gate Bridges appears over the horizon like an alien spaceship. The views here are the kind you see on magazine covers and wish you could someday take. Once you have spent your time at this best-of-all viewpoints all others will pale; however, it is worth continuing on up Conzelman Road and pulling off at each of the others, because the different perspectives can also create great photos with the changing light, clouds and fog that likes to hang around the top of the bridge.
Conzelman Road is not that long and once you reach the top you will encounter an oddly located roundabout that you can use to turn around and head back down the way you came. Why you ask? All views of the GGB are on the right side of the road and they get progressively more wonderful the lower you go. Driving back down from the top gives you broader views, often enhanced with low hanging clouds (fog) to spice up your pictures. Also, because parking is almost impossible at the turn outs, at least coming down on the inside toward the turnouts makes it much easier for you to pull off and wait for a parking spot to open at turnouts you may have missed going up.
I REALLY wanted pictures of every view I could get of the bridge, so I worked my way into every lot, got out took the shots and moved on to the next one. I was patient and had the time, so this approach worked for me. Keep in mind, that if you only have time for one stop, go directly to the FIRST overlook at the bottom.
Here is a tip, Conzelman Road is also the way to Bonita Point Lighthouse. Instead of turning around at the roundabout at the top, exit onto the road that continues up the hill, take it past a tunnel and where it turns into a one-way road down, until it tees forcing you to go left to the lighthouse parking lot, which is usually too full to use anyway. Here is the conundrum. The lighthouse is only open Sa-M 12:30 -3:30, weather permitting. If at all possible, you do want to see the lighthouse AND all of the Golden Gate Bridge photo spots along Conzelman Road; however, due to the lighthouse’s limited schedule, times you need a plan that fits the rest of your schedule. Best of luck.

This is a great spot to take in the magnificence of the stunning Golden Gate Bridge. It is also a great spot for taking pictures. It's kinda cool to see the fog roll in too.

This is a "must see" for anyone visiting the Bay Area! The views 0f San Francisco and the Bay area are breathtaking. I visited on Oct 26th and it was a crystal clear day. You could see all the way down the peninsula.
A photographers dream come true! :)

Most great pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge are taken from this spot or close by down the trails.
Whether with a low for or big bright skies, these views are incredible of the bridge with SF in the background. You can watch huge tankers, beautiful sailboats and with binoculars, lines of kayakers, headed out to sea. During fleet week watching Navy ships headed into port is very cool.
All around the top of the hill are trails to hike around and you can see the Cannon Batteries that protected the Bay. Or you can take a long hike down to the lighthouse.
Really is a must see.
De

This is worth the trip up to see the different views of the bridge and city. The road is very steep but worth the traffic. As you go down, there is a cute hidden beach worth checking out as well.

It hard to get a photo because the place is packed. The angle from the San Francisco side is nicer. The ferry back to San Francisco gives you a chance to get a better photo.

Take a moment to be in the moment..yes the traffic is bad, so take a moment, stop at the vista overlooking that Golden wonder! You are able to smell the sea air, feel the sun, wind, fog and gaze at that amazing view into one of America's loved icons. Take a moment, it will revive your spirit.

This the THE place for that classic Golden Gate Bridge picture. Easy access, plenty of parking, clean restrooms

Our bus tour of San Francisco, stopped here as we changed buses to carry on to Saulisato.
Fabulous spot to take many pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge, and of San Francisco city. Can be cold, even on a beautiful day. Lots of people here so it can be abit crowded, but well worth the stunning views. Not to be missed.

Great views, especially at night. Traffic and parking can however suck due to all the tourists. Very limited parking

This is a great place for taking photographs of the Golden Gate Bridge, in fact the views are pretty amazing but it does get busy! We stopped here on a tour, purely for the spectacular views.

San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge is the most spectacular point of this amazing city. To be able to cross it by car or foot is an incredible experience. This vista point is wonderful for any one that loves to take a minute to admire the city and bridge. Not to mention, to take photos.

This is not somewhere you want to go at the height of the summer. People in rental cars are insane! But if you choose to go, drive close to the visitors center and walk back!

Unfortunately the day we went it was soooooo foggy you couldn’t see your hand in front of you! So strange though as halfway across the bridge and it was sunny again!! These are of pictures coming back over the bridge to the sunny side! X

Some beautiful views of the golden gate bridge. Free parking and rest rooms. Lots of photo opportunities.

Perfect for a pit stop. The views are amazing. Beautiful view of the bridge and alcatraz. Must see spot!

We spent a couple of hours here in the different stopping off points trying to find the best view of the wonderful bridge. We had differing success due to the mist, but eventually got some wonderful evocative views. Very special to be so close to an icon. Worth the waiting and queues to get a parking spot.

We were able to see this after we did the walk across the Golden Gate Bridge.
This is very busy place. You may have to wait a few moments for an opening at the scenic railing, so you can grab a picture.
There are bathrooms in the center - if the ones closest to the bridge are out, you can use the ones 15 feet further north (connected at the center). They were a bit spartan, but were serviceable.
Take a few moments to take in the view.

This is not the best view of the bridge, just travel up the mountain on the opposite side of the highway for that. The vista point should have a small kiosk or something for some quick snacks.

We pulled off at the Vista Point after crossing the Golden Gate Bridge. It was crowded but parking was available. Unfortunately. fog obstructed the view. On a clear day, it would have been great.

Nice view of the bridge and city. If you want a better view travel to the top, where the view is absolutely amazing.

We drove up 101 in a borrowed Lexus from Cavallo Point and it was an incredible experience! Lots of bikers to dodge, but well worth it. Plenty of spots along the way to pull over and park to take photos. Panorama opportunities abound :)

The drive up is long and almost always packed with vehicles.....but the view was spectacular...you drive until you find a spot or have to go back around

A visit to Vista Point really depends on the weather. On a cloudy day, it might be a waste of your time as you will not be able to see the bridge and the amazing view. On the day we visited Vista point, we were on our bike and in the late afternoon around 5 PM in Sept. All the clouds were cleared, and it was the most amazing view I have seen on the Golden Gate bridge Vista Point among the many visits that have to the point

Loved watching the boats and the marina just before sun set
Wish they had cleaner bathrooms and vending machines
Don't miss it

Once you've walked over the Golden Gate Bridge, turn right to enjoy excellent views of the whole Bay area. Most of the bus tours seem to stop here, but they don't stop for long.

This was an amazing experience, and really sereal. Loved every moment, everyone should be able to try this.

It was foggy and windy but the view was still spectacular. Parking is tricky (there are a couple of ovelook points on the drive up) with so many cars on the narrow roads and very limited spaces. Most people are in and out in 10 minutes so be patient and a space will open up

We were taken to the the north vista point over the Bridge on the way to Sausalito by our Uber driver but we were still able to take pretty good pictures although I’m told the south point is better.

You'll want to snap great pictures from the amazing Vista Point! If the weather is clear, be prepared for LOTS of other folks trying to get the same pictures!! We parked and walked up farther on the road and were able to see the view and get great shots without tons of people!

it is a great place near the san francisco bay. It is expensive but if you don´t want spend you can walk around the village and enjoy the landscape. I m recomend if you spend few days at San Francisco

Vista Point is located on the Marin side of the Golden Gate Bridge and offers incredible views of the bay, Alcatraz island and San Francisco. It is definitely a tourist mecca and parking is at a premium – so you may have to complete a few trips around the lot before finding an open spot. It was quite windy on our last visit so we elected not to stay long as it was too cold for me - but the views were still beautiful.

This the Sausalito side of the Golden gate bridge.
We were there in October and the weather was warm but take a coat if you intend to cross the bridge ,it gets windy and can be a bit cold.
At this end of the bridge there are toilets but nothing else ,thats not to say there won't be in the main season.
You get great views from here across to S/F Alcatraz, angle island , also if you make a detour there is a nice bay below Vista point
. Its called horseshoe bay and give a good view of the bridge looking up to it.

Vista Point on the north east side of the Golden Gate Bridge right after driving over it offers one of it’s best views. Free parking on site is available. Best time to visit is in the early morning when the crowds are thinner.

The view was amazing. You can see downtown San Francisco, City of Sausilito and Alcatraz all from here. very relaxing and enjoyable. Don't miss this.

Toured the Marin Headlands yesterday and it was spectacular! The highlight of the visit was coming around the bend to discover Vista Point with the bay, ocean, bridge and city fully laid out in front of our eyes. A wonder!!!

Incredible views of both the Golden gate bridge, Alcatraz, and the city of San Francisco.
It is on the Sausalito side even though there is a another .view point in the presidio on the San Francisco side.

It's a must go in San Francisco. The view is a postcard. Sausalito is amazing. It is worth the visit, nice view, excellent restaurants. A very pleasant place to spend the day.

We biked from San Francisco to Sausalito and the view of the bridge from here was the best. Worth the ride.

This 'picture' stop before going over the bridge is always extremely busy with cars and tour buses. Definitely worth a stop but keep in mind that, depending on the time of day and the weather, your view may be of fog or haze.

Quintessential photo of the Golden Gate. Every visitor to San Francisco should cross the Golden Gate Bridge to take this photograph.

If you walk across the bridge from south to north, Vista point is the exit point to the car park. Great views of the bridge looking back to the south. Aside from the car park and viewing area the only other facilities are the toilets. There is no food or drinks here.

Vista Point is a nice stop if you are Driving over the Golden Gate Bridge and need a break. If you are on a bus tour, and the driver offers, it's an OK stop as well. I biked to the Golden Gate Bridge so there were plenty of other better amazing stops/photo ops. Hope this helps puts Vista Point in perspective.

We are only in San Francisco for a couple of days and first point of call for us was the Golden Gate Bridge.. WOW, what an amazing sight and such a thrill to be able to drive over the bridge. Bucket list item, CHECK!!! And to top it off stopping at Vista Point was an unexpected bonus where we were able to take a couple of happy snaps. Although its summer time the weather wasn't over kind with a lot of cloud cover but still amazing to be there. An absolute must do if you visit San Francisco.

Beautiful spot to view the bridge. Can be very windy and definitely lock your cars. There are bathrooms here but they close on and off and are dirty. You can also drive west on that same road a few curves or so (towards the lighthouse hike and Rodeo Beach) and come to several other look outs that are less crowded. The view there will also be a bit more expansive, and especially if it’s partly foggy as you may get a view of the top of the bridge peaking through the fog. Overall, this area is a beautiful spot to get photos.

Lots of tourists and nothing to do but take a great picture of The Golden Gate Bridge! It’s on your way to Sausalito so make the stop!

This is a great tourist spot if you want an outside view of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco. It’s the “selfie” spot! There are restroom available and usually several cart vendors selling food and drinks. Aside from the views, there is not much else to do.
Pros:
1) Free parking is available
2) The views are amazing!!!
3) Restrooms available
Cons:
1) Parking is limited since it is a very popular spot.
2) Not a secluded spot
@nomoneytravelguy

Took the hop on hop off bus to here, before going onto Sausalito. Some fantastic views of the bridge and countryside. Some great photo opportunities. Well worth the trip.

Great spot to see SF, the bridge and Alcatraz. Easy to get to - cross the bridge and first exit. Signposted Vista Point. Loads of parking, restrooms etc.
Cross back and stop at the large souvenir store for bridge and Alcatraz related souvenirs. Bought a bridge ‘rivet’ - seemed like the thing to do.
Big restaurant also there.

We had cycled across the bridge and stopped off here on our way back to our hotel. It really is a very good view of the bridge!

Everyone wants to stop at vista point on the north side of the bridge. Unfortunately there are not very many parking spaces. On weekends the parking lot may be closed to keep cars from backing up onto the bridge. Take a bus to the south side and walk across the bridge. Once you have gotten your fill of the view on this side cross underneath the bridge and see it from the other side. Way better use of your time than circling the parking lots!

Gives great views of the Golden Gate Bridge and SFO all the way across. It's a full parking lot and there are lots of people here.. taking pics and selfies and all sorts of things.
You can uber it out of here. It took all of 1 minute for me to get my ride.

We spent a couple of hours in Sausalito including lunch, after having visited the Muir Woods. This vista point was very nice to see the panorama of San Francisco from.

Drove over the bridge on 101 to Sausalito in mist till we got to vista point which provides a great view across the bay can be hit and miss this time of the year

Spectacular views when clear and sunny and because it was late afternoon in the middle of the week, there was tons of parking where there is usually none on the weekends. Great for photo ops

Vista Point is the first exit after crossing the Golden Gate Bridge traveling north toward Marin County. There is free parking and unsurpassed view sites back toward the bridge and the San Francisco skyline. Panoramic views of the entire bay from Berkeley, to Alcatraz to the Golden Gate stretch out before you, except on those days when the natural air conditioning for San Francisco, the fog, rolls in and devours the bridge and surrounding hills.

You can get great pictures from this area of both the bridge and the city! We went across the golden gate on bikes. It's worth a stop!

We went at night first - a little risky with a small walk along a rock path. Breezy and exhilarating to sit and enjoy the feel of the City on the other side. Went back during the day and it was fun. There is an old armory place up there and some lovely short walks in the area from the car park. Views are just as incredible but the car park is small and can get busy.

Like many tourists we stopped for a few minutes on our way to Sausalito. It was cold and windy, but worth it. We enjoyed the view and took pictures of the Golden Gate, the Bay Bridge, San Fransisco Bay, Alcatraz and of course the city of San Francisco. A short but fun stop.

Safe the traffic in the afternoon hours, especially when trying to find a parking lot at the view points, this is a must have, must do and must see.
Best time in May is after 4pm until 7pm, as the sun is on the right side of the bay and Golden Gate Bridge.

Entry from the San Francisco exit towards Marin County, don't try on the weekends. The right-hand lane on the Golden Gate Bridge provides the only access. The wait is long but worth it. The scene from the Marin County over to the City-by-the-Bay is awesome! Rest facilities available if needed. Picture postcard of San Francisco.

Highly recommend the walk up to Vista Point. On a clear day the view is stunning. You can also walk from here further up the hill to other vantage points. It is easily accessible by car as well and the walk to the point from the Car Park is not steep.

Another viewpoint of this iconic bridge. The biggest problem is that it gets extremely busy and parking is sometimes difficult. Tour buses stop here too...

Vista Point have some unbelievable views, its very easy to get to you can walk drive or cycle to this view point

Lots of places to park if you are driving across the bridge. We walked across the bridge to had to weave between pedestrians and bikes.
Worth it for the view and a quick photo!

Great view of the Bay and the Bridge. The parking is limited so you need to be patient. Plan to spend 30 minutes here.

Great views of the Golden Gate Bridge and of San Francisco. A can't miss if crossing the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco.

The vista point of choice may be anything from the overlook right at the north end of the bridge to any one of the many pullouts going up the road on the Marin headlands. It is such a beautiful area. It is a great place to see the sights and if you have your camera, to take beautiful photographs. Don't miss this area when touring through San Francisco.

Vista Point is beautiful. You get a beautiful view of the Golden Gate Bridge and a little bit of the city of San Francisco. Highly recommended place to visit and take photos.

Wow, spectacular, fabulous view. I don’t have to say anymore. Just get on a bike go to Sausalito for Lunch and if you’re lazy catch the ferry back to San Fran.

Love the view of Golden Gate from the Vista Point. We can drive around and there are different angles and best scenic views

This is one of the places we stopped on a bike tour. It is a great view and picture taking opportunity.

Just off 101, large parking lot (around the building when the lot looks full), with fine bathrooms. Plenty of places to take some good pictures of San Francisco back across the bay.

It is one very nice place to stop and enjoy the view, and also if you decide to ride a bike to cross the bridge, it is nice place to stop and enjoy the jurney.

This vista is a terrific viewpoint for the Golden Gate Bridge. You. can take spectacular photographs from this spot. Close and easy to get to, the view. is well worth it.

We weren't planning on stopping but couldn't help ourselves with the lure of spectacular views of the Golden Gate Bridge. It was worth the side trip. Beautiful place to take pictures! Hope you're better taking selfies than we are.

Great location from which you can see all the beautiful views!
There are some parking spaces. If it's full, try to wait a bit. Someone will always leave and you'll park there.
You can see San Fran from this location. Great location to have some pictures with the Golden Gate Bridge. A bit windy, but nice!

Drive across the bridge from San Francisco to Sausalito and pull off to the view point on the right. You'll have the opportunity to park, get out, and take photos before heading to Sausalito.

The Vista Point was easy to get to thanks to the signs showing where to go and the one way traffic flow.
There’s plenty of parking and lots of great photo opportunities.

Add it too your tour of San Fran! Great photo opportunity, chat with some of the locals, they give you awesome local knowledge!

I live around here, so I have often stopped here during the week to use the restrooms. Parking during the summer months is always a challenge and I think they may have even started closing the parking lot on weekends as it was causing a traffic jam on the bridge. Whether you get there by car or bike, it's a phenomenal spot to take in the view of the bay, the city, the GG bridge. The bathrooms have always been open, clean and working when I've visited. Also a great respite on the 2 hour drive from San Jose to San Rafael.

I wish we had had more time to spend here, as there are great vistas just a short walk from the parking areas. Definitely worth the time to drive up and stop for whatever time you can spare.

Beautiful location, nice on a sunny day and good hiking trail if you prefer. However, there are not a lot parking spaces so you may want to come here early.

A must do when in SF. The fog sometimes makes this a cold and windy place but it still is worth it.
During summer it is difficult finding a parking spot.

Bring your hiking shoes and camera...fun to see the underneath of the bridge and listen to the seals.

We returned for a visit to see the views from Vista Point. It is located on the north side of Golden Gate Bridge.
There are very nice views of the Golden Gate Bridge and also of the San Francisco Skyline. We had a stellar day to see the views. It was first part of February - lovely views.
There is also the Lone Sailor Memorial Statue to see and fitting tributes to other military branches such as the Coast Guard and Merchant Marines.
There is also a free bathroom one can use when visting Vista Point.

Amazing views of San Francisco behind the Golden Gate. You are high enough that you can see Alcatraz, The Cliff House, the avenues of SF, Mt Sutro, and the East Bay. The view is what calendar photographs are made of. You can even go all the way to the bunkers of WWII. Simply an amazing place to visit and enjoy the sights of the SF Bay area.

Pack a picnic basket, a bottle of champagne, pick a guiet spot and simply shut up. Absolutely beautiful. I have a picture at sunrise of the Golden Gate bridge in my bedroom and pause every morning to relive that moment.

This is a must stop once in your life to see this amazing structure along with the perfect view of San Francisco.

Absolute gorgeous view!!! A must see in the San Francisco area! The view is breathtaking and there is still a lot of history around it.

This is the very best view and picture taking opportunity of the bridge you will find!! I highly recommend going to Vista Point but the traffic can be tricky...

Great photo spot for pictures of the Golden Gate bridge. The area has rest rooms and you can spend time here just admiring the stunning views.

I’m always wary about taking photos of icons myself because I feel published photos are so much better. But this is also a place to feel the atmosphere.
Not an absolutely necessary stop, but sparing a couple of minutes would be good.

Absolutely amazing views of the golden gate bridge and SF bay. It was crowded so aim for off peak hours to get best photo ops. Lone Sailor statue is also pretty cool.

So that you understand the unplanned reason my wife and I got this look at the bridge from this point: We had planned to exit Marin Headlands through the tunnel, sat stuck in traffic for two hours, and finally were rerouted to the other exit from the park. We were pretty stressed, as you would imagine, but the rerouting took us to this point to get a marvelous look from on high at this engineering wonder of the world. We wouldn't go so far as to say that it made up for the two-hour delay, but it certainly allowed us to end our trip to Marin Headlands on a more positive note.

a most wonderful prospective view of the Golden Gate Bridge and the city of San Francisco! It's also a very popular biker's trip.

Vista Point is the kind of stop that turns a drive into a memory. Perched just north of the Golden Gate Bridge, it offers sweeping views of San Francisco’s skyline, Alcatraz, and the bay—all framed by the bridge’s towering red arches. Whether you’re walking across the bridge, biking from the city, or pulling over during a coastal drive, this scenic overlook invites you to slow down and soak it all in. It’s a favorite for selfies, quiet reflection, and those “wow” moments that remind you why the Bay Area is so beloved.

The view there is amazing. It’s such a nice place to take pictures and appreciate the beautiful landscape. The red bridge creates a perfect contrast with the blue ocean and sky.

Vista Point is the ideal location for photos and selfies of the Golden Gate Bridge, the San Francisco skyline and Alcatraz Island at a distance depending on the "fog factor". It is a great location for closeup photos of the bridge as it goes in and out of the fog and is always changing. The Sailor Monument at this site it worth seeing. People from all over the world come to this spot to take in this incredible view everyday!
BOTTOM LINE: This spot can become very, very busy with tourists just about anytime, day or night. On the weekends, Vista Point is closed to only tourist buses and not available to private cars. We loved this spot as you can see from my photos submitted with my review. THIS IS A MUST SEE SITE! Put Vista Point on your short list of places to visit when in San Francisco. MY RATING: 10/10.
The famous San Francisco bridge FOG can make viewing limited at times. It changed multiple times in the 20 minutes that we were here, so be patient as the skyline is constantly opening and closing with the fog and clouds.
NOTE OF CAUTION: This area is well known for theft, primarily for items left in cars unattended and unlocked. Be sure to take anything of value with you when viewing from this point. Keep a watchful eye on your car because others are also watching you and your vehicle for nefarious reasons to steal your stuff.

One of the best views of the bridge! The parking situation is not great, we had to wait on the side of the road for about 10 minutes before a spot opened up. A little bit windy so bring a light jacket.

Been here several times. It's great to stop and get some nice photos. It can and does get crowded, be prepared for the crowds.

We actually came across the Vista Point by accident, and so glad we did.
My wife and I walked over the Golden Gate Bridge and saw signposts to the Vista Point so walked up to take a look, before walking back over the bridge again!
It's high up so brilliant views to be had from here of the surrounding landscape including the bridge, San Francisco city, Alcatraz Island, and Bay Bridge in the distance.
Busy with people taking photographs and selfies during our visit.
An enjoyable visit for us, and obviously the better the visibility the better the views.

This is a great look out where on a clear day you can see the whole city - easy drive up. On the day we were there the view was limited due to fog. It's a great photo spot on the stone wall.

If you love a fabulous view and love taking photos, this is the place for you. There a different points that you can take amazing photos & just enjoy the beauty of the views. It's a good pit stop & rest rooms available. This is also one of the stops for the Big Bus Tour. Definately worth a visit .

The views are breathtaking, you could sit here all day and just watch the Bay and the sights. Take your time enjoy the views

Most tours to Sausalito seem to stop at this vista point just a short distance away from the bridge. Great views of the bridge from a different angle as well as San Francisco across the water. The area has restrooms and is teeming with tour buses and people taking selfies

You must come here if traveling to SF but don't try to park here. There are numerous buses and nice walking paths to get here but trying to park here is incredibly frustrating. Walk, Uber, Cab, or Bus are all great options. Just outside the info desk is a bus stop for a bus #24 or 28 (i forget the number) that will take you to Fisherman's Wharf (last stop is Van Ness, which is a couple short blocks from Fisherman's Wharf) or Daly City. Make sure you get the right bus, whether you want to go "in town" or "out of town", the bus drivers are very friendly and it's a short ride to the Wharf.

If you visit the Golden Gate, don't miss this spectacular view. You can go up on foot, by bike or by car. Wear a light jacket. The wind there is strong and cold. You will find spectacular views.

On a clear day, Vista point offers some breathtaking views of most of the bay area.
The only problem is how busy it gets. The parking is somewhat limited and people tend to be not very courteous or fair when trying to find a spot. There were cars double parked, cars blocking lanes, people standing in the traffic lanes, people bullying for picture spots, etc... It seems people left their common sense and courtesy at the exit from the highway.
It's a shame because the area and views are really nice, but the overcrowding and people's rudeness take away from the experience.

Lovely viewpoint of the golden gate bridge and able to take pictures at various angles. Seating available around the area. There are better areas to view Alcatraz although it can still be seen

As long as it's not foggy! I usually stay in Sausalito and run around this area and into Marin Headlands. It's my favorite. You can bike, run, walk to most sites if you in shape.

This is the on north side of the Golden Gate Bridge. This is also a very busy place for views of the bridge and the bay. Firstly, the views are worth it. If its a clear day you can see for miles. Also below it looks like there are army bunkers from the war.
If you want to walk to the bridge it is about a 5-10 minute walk just to get to the edge.
Also be mindful when walking there is heavy traffic from both pedestrians and bikers.
It is also very windy on the bridge and this was on a calm sunny day, but it is worth the views

We visited the vista point on the way to Battery Spencer, where we wanted to see the sun rise with the Golden Gate Bridge in clear view. We also wanted to get views of the Golden gate Bridge from the vista point but it was early in the morning, and a combination of poor light and fog meant that we were unable to see the bridge clearly.
We had to be satisfied with taking photos at the lone sailor monument. It was a short cab ride from town, and we requested that the driver wait while we took photos, before the return trip across the bridge. It was affordable at US$60 for the round trip.Note that the toll fee on the return trip will be added to the basic fare, and the basic fare is x1.5 for the "out of town" trip.
The sailor monument, represents the sailors last view before shipping out of the country. Approximately 1.5m persons were shipped from San Fransisco during WW2. We were quite surprised when we saw a replica of the sailor monument a week later while visiting Jayu (Freedom) Park in Incheon, South Korea. The small replica of the sailor monument was situated to the right of the General MacArthur statue. Unfortunately, we deleted our photos at this location by error, and hope to revisit.

Great spot for view and photos of the bridge. Easy to get to from the bridge. Best views were from Hawk Hill

We walked Golden Gate Bridge from the city finishing at Vista Point. Interesting views of bridge and across to the city. We spent about 30 minutes here taking in the views and checking out the memorials, before getting an Uber to Sausalito and the ferry back to San Francisco.

A great place to see the Golden Gate bridge, SF city and also Alcatraz Island. Lots of parking available here.

Beautiful view. Parking is limited, you may have to park on the road and walk a bit, but it's well worth it. It's cool also to watch all the traffic on the bridge and the boats traveling the water. But don't just take pics and leave - spend some time and fully take in the wonderful view.

Don’t let the crowds deter you from getting that perfect view from atop the vista point! Keep driving and eventually you will get a spot! The views today were spectacular!

This is the best view of golden gate bridge. Bring a sweater or light jacket as it can be quite cold with the wind off the Pacific.

We got a bus from near the wharf , to the golden gate bridge and look out point, there is an information kiosk and a cafe there.
We then took the bus 30 to sausalito.
Beautiful village and then ferry back to the wharf

It was a Sunday and the ships were on parade in San Francisco Bay. The day was sunny and clear and we had a stunning view of the different military (and a few commercial) ships along with pleasure boats below us from Vista Point. People had walked across the Golden Gate Bridge from the San Francisco side and had also come from the Marin side, then gathered at the Vista Point. Picnic lunches, children running around, grown ups enjoying the sun and everyone looking at the marine spectacle across the bay, made this a perfect visit.

This is a must see. Parking is limited and it can be a little crowded but well worth the time to visit. It can be a little chilly at times due to wind.

I was able to walk the bridge, with new family members. I really enjoyed the walk, but not the bikes. We almost go hit a lot of times. It would seem that the numbers of bikes have increase of the years. We just had to be careful and stay to one side. to enjoy our walk. I was also happy to see the lone sailor statue.

Great location to get a great view of the GG Bridge going to Sausalito. Highly recommended stop for everyone.

Beautiful view, lots of tourists. Parking isn't easy when it's nice out but the view is priceless. GGB is well maintained, a super interesting scene

My sister and I walked the bridge from Cavallo Point Lodge and back and stopped at Vista Point. It won't disappoint you. Great views of San Francisco and the bay...and on a good warm clear day great views of the sail boats racing in the bay!

Grab a parking spot and take your patience with you. Windy, pretty view with lots and lots of friends.

This is one of our favorite views in the world. It is so Iconic it is almost trite. But all the songs "I left my heart in San Francisco" and happy memories come back on this spot.

A little windy but worth it. The views here are amazing, probably the best I've seen of the GGB. This is where the photographers come.

A small area on the hill with a beautiful view Of Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco city.
Not entree fees, it’s a small place just to have some great photos.

On a clear day, walking the bridge is worth the effort. Bring water and wear good walking shoes. We parked underneath at the Marina and walked up to the Vista point where you see San Francisco, Alcatraz and the tip of Sausalito marina. The Vista area is touristy and crowded but they have bathrooms.
As we walked out onto the bridge we could see the entire Bay. We watched a huge tanker ship pass underneath and sailboats going by. Warning: it's very loud and the cars zooming by distract your perspective and the cityscapes. But back at the Vista Point you can hike up higher to the headlands or you can walk under the girders of the bridge to the marina where there is a Children's Discovery Museum.

A must see place when visiting San Francisco. Just off the bridge.
Too bad it’s always very busy.
Be aware of pick pocketers

This is the best place to take pictures, no bad views. If you want a good romantic spot to propose this is the place.

This was the first time I had gone to this vista. It was a great viewpoint. You would have to work hard to take a bad photograph. Worth the gas.

Went here when the fog had lifted. Great site for pictures of the Golden Gate bridge. Easy access to other points for pictures of the bridge.

Fun drive across the iconic bridge to reach the point. It is nothing more than a rest stop with amazing views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the SF skyline.

Wonderful time to visit. Beautiful views. Crisp, clean air. If you want to hike up to the battalions, wear shoes with soles.

The potential for amazing photos is there however, on our visit the air quality was so poor that we didn’t bother with photos.

Love, love, love the view from here! I could sit for a while and just enjoy the view. Don't think I would bother on an overcast day though. Lots of hiking trails and limited parking.

Vista point was amazing & the view of the Golden Gate Bridge was amazing too!though it was windy we enjoyed a lot!

Vista Point gets very busy during the weekends and during summer months because it is a bigger parking lot than the parking lot before the bridge toll and it is also FREE of charge, with bathrooms available too. The tour buses stop there too, so after you cross the bridge keep on your right and turn in the first sharp right turn. This lane can be a little backed up, but be patient.
When I go there and bring visitors to cross the bridge, I prefer to stop there because there is no rush to do anything because there is no parking fee. The Bridge is 1.7 miles so enjoy the walk slowly. If it is too busy, exit Alexander Ave and turn LEFT at the stop sign, you will go under the freeway and turn right to go up to Marin Headlands. As soon as you start go to up the hill there is another small parking lot - usually used by bikes and you can park there too. The coolest thing is there is a walk way that goes UNDERNEATH the Golden Gate Bridge and finishes at the vista point!

Such a great view from here. Busy place so maybe try to go earlier in the day. But a must stop on your way to Sausalito.

Good views of the golden gate bridge. You can also do it walking or by byke. After you cross the bridge you should go to Sausalito

Gorgeous view of the bay, bridge and surrounding areas. Difficult to find parking but well worth it.

I was so tired after the bridge walk that I almost didn't go here. But I pulled myself to it and loved myself for doing it. The views of the bridge from vista point are diverse and amazing

A must do when visiting San Francisco. Stop here and get some great photos of you, family friends or whoever with the amazing background that is the golden gate bridge

Great views of the bridge. Personally we thought the better view was from across the 101 up the hill (drive up towards the top, the views are unreal). Definitely worth the quick stop for photos though.

We visited the view point before driving over the bridge (the direction you don't pay!) and took many photos of the bridge. It reminds us of what man can achieve with intelligence and hard work. Nice to visit somewhere in the US that was free.
Well worth a visit, but I advise you not to visit the café on the bridge near the visitor centre, I have seen better truckers cafes and with better drinks and food, nuff said.
Visit the vista point, well worth it.

We crossed over to the Marin County side just at sunset and pulled over here. I'm SO glad we did. It was beautiful lighting and fun to see the lights in the city come on. The statue of the Lone Sailor was nice.
Bathrooms are available.

W biked up to Vista Point and out was well worth it. A beautiful view of the bridge and bay. Also has restrooms at the top.

This point offers a great view of the city of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. Alcatraz Island is also clearly visible. There are telescopes (pay to use) available and washrooms adjacent to the parking lot. A nice little park is in the parking lot if you just want to sit for a minute and rest.

Ok, so I like to talk. I take pictures and inevitably some one will ask me to take their pic with their camera. I always do but ask for a favor in return, I get to take a pic of them with my camera. I never share the pics, just the stories of all the cool people I've gotten to meet all over the world by doing this...always very cool conversations and great pictures.

We've all seen the photos of this amazing view of the Golden Gate Bridge - but it's definitely worth a trip to experience it in person. The drive up to Vista Point in Sausalito is fun just by itself - and once you get to the top, you're just amazed by what you see. So glad we went!

This is the easiest, most convenient site from which to view SF looking south across the bay from Marin County. If you have a few more minutes continue on toward the Alexander Ave. exit and turn left. Just before entering the Golden Gate Bridge southbound, exit right and drive up hill to the Marin Headlands. The views are fantastic from this higher vantage point and historical sites are plentiful.

If you're in San Francisco (or going to) and drive over the Golden Gate Bridge, this is in Sausalito and definitely worth a stop! You'll have a view of the entire bridge, Alcatraz, Angel Island, and a view of the bay meeting the ocean.

Great place to catch the sunset, but i'd recommend getting there earlier than you think to find parking. There were only about 8 parking spots so be patient and wait for someone to leave. Most people don't stay long. They get their instagram story and leave.

A must place for photos if you are on a trip to SF. Parking is hard so just drive up the hill and turn around and try to find an open spot.

The only bad thing about the view is that it is very busy. I would recommend stopping to look out at this spot.

We walked from the south side of the bridge across the full length to the vista point and were not disappointed by the views, don't forget to look over the edge we saw both dolphins and sea lions in the bay

This is a fantastic spot to capture pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge. You also have other great views.

Just happened to turn the wrong way and ended up at the most magnificent vista point to see the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco Bay. You can also see the area outside of the Golden Gate Bridge. Saw a beautiful sunset! I’ll be going back when I can see more of the Marin Headlands area! P.S. This is a no charge activity.

This was one of the drop off locations on the Big Bus Hop on Hop off bus tour. The North Vista Point was absolutely a great place to view the beautiful Art Deco Bridge and the San Francisco skyline as well as the Bay where you can see Alcatraz and Yerba Buena Island/Treasure Island. There are WCs at this location which is very handy. From the Vista Point, there a hiking trails to see various former military batteries that guarded the Golden Gate during more perilous times.

Super location to view the iconic Golden Gate Bridge.
This is a must for all visiting the bay area.
Hopefully no or limited fog to enhance the scenic view.

Not a lot to review here other than the view is spectacular. Stopped on the way to the woods (and then Sausalito) for the view and photo opportunity. Weather was clear and crisp making for breathtaking sites of bridges, San Francisco, and Bay.

We stopped at the North Vista twice, once on our bike trip and once on our shuttle tour. Both times, it was very busy. I'm glad we didn't have to worry about parking.
The views are excellent. You get some cool pictures right down the center of the Golden Gate Bridge. Stopping here also allows you to go for a walk out onto the bridge, which is a must do if you have the time.

If you can snag a parking spot, this is the best place to get a perspective on the Golden Gate Bridge. I have taken many visitors here, but parking is the challenge.

Nice view point of the bridge. On our first day weather was foggy and didn't get good view. However we came again on a better day, definitely worth for 1st timers.
Note: There is a hill on left side of the bridge. After 5 mins drive on the hill there is a stop point which will give best view of the bridge.

What an incredibly beautiful scene! Great place for pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz.

This vista point is very easy one to find. Just keep right when you are crossing the bridge from SFO side. There are many places to park freely. The view of the bridge is astonishing. Surely you will take a lot of fine pictures.

Vista Point offers breathtaking views of the magnificent Golden Gate standing tall in all its glory. Perfect spot to have great views of bridge, city & bay. Also a great and popular spot for tourists to land to shoot photos of the golden beauty
Parking is decent, there are tables to sit on and washrooms very close by…. Vista Point is a great rest stop for fresh breath & also famous for many classic pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge. The view of the bridge, bay and city on a cool crisp night is really amazing!
From a vista at the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge, a life-size bronze statue of a sailor overlooks the San Francisco Bay for a view of San Francisco. Next to the sailor is his duffel bag alongside a stanchion. The memorial is constructed and dedicated on the scenic overlook called Vista Point with a replica of The Lone Sailor , as its focal point . The statue, a replica of the lone sailor1, represents a sailor's last view of the West Coast as he sails out for duty at sea. The statue is dedicated to all of the Sea Services - Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine.
During our visit , it was incredibly windy & chilly, but totally worth… the visit. We don't care how others rate this spot but when it comes to romantic, pensive, and inspiring views—the Vista Point with Golden Gate bridge is nearly impossible to beat.
.

We were blessed to have discovered this thru our Uber driver...just one of the most beautiful vista's anywhere - takes your breath away. Simply too magnificent for words.

Stopped here while we were take a bike ride. Also rode our bikes over the Golden Gate Bridge! Beautiful view on a clear day; beware of the fog.

A well-deserved resting place once you have crossed the bridge.
If you are lucky to be here on a sunny day without clouds you can enjoy marvelous views of the city, the bay and the bridge.
It is true the place can get a bit crowded but the pros definitely beat the cons. Vista Point is a great place to admire the bay for everyone regardless of age.
Highly recommend!

We were recommended to visit by the waiter in nearby Dipsea cafe and we were not disappointed, he also recommended Tiburon ( Spanish for shark ). Beautiful quaint town with old shop fronts and great view of the bay. Picturesque marina with restaurants overlooking. We visited en route back from Muir Woods and Muir Beach. The views only get better as one heads back to San Francisco uphill and over the Golden Gate $7 toll 1-way only upon entering San Francisco, free to travel out of San Francisco.

The views of San Francisco, the bay and GG Bridge are pretty amazing from Vista Point. Good photo spot earlier in the day when the sun is still on the East side of the bridge. It does get very busy and crowded here since it’s the first stop coming across the bridge from SF. Personally I prefer the drive up on the Marin Headlands side of the bridge overlooking the bridge. You should make the stop at Vista Point but do yourself a favor (if you have a car) and drive to next exit and follow the road under to the west (Marin Headlands) side of the bridge.

We stayed at nearby Cavallo Point and every day we passed there was a queue of cars going up to the point, in fact, it seemed like some of the areas were closed off to ease congestion. We decided to walk to the point from underneath the bridge. It's all uphill, but it was a nice walk and it beats sitting in traffic and then fighting for a parking space. If you want to walk, you can park around Fork Baker and walk along Moore Rd, this takes you under the bridge and up a path at the other side. It's worth it for the views.

A great vantage point with stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge. Go in the afternoon to catch the sun on the bridge.

We came back and forth a few times into San Francisco on our stay and stopped a few places to take great pictures!

Nice views of the city and bridge, but if you can spare 15 mins more, drive up to Marin Headlands on the other side of the highway, for much better and less crowded views.

Good place to view the Golden Gate bridge. If it's a sunny day you'll get better pictures later in the afternoon. Not much else up here.

If you drive up to Vista Point you will be able to take pictures that are postcard quality. The day we went they had a couple doing wedding pictures. Breathtaking . You spend the whole time with your mouth opened and saying WOW

Nothing special about a dusty hill, with no refreshments and lots of people but stunning views of the city and bridge..
A must visit if you are site seeing

I have stopped here often and the views are always spectacular. Take a moment out of your trip and stop. You won’t be disappointed

Great vantage point for photo ops, has rest rooms and great to people watch.if you are going to walk across the bridge watch out for the cyclists!

Fantastic Views back across the bridge, to Alcatraz & towards Sausalito.
Popular viewing point, however, it's a ten minute walk to collect the local bus as they don't stop here and there only every 30 mins (I think)
Great monument to the US Armed forces with 3D plaques to the various services.

We visited here twice, the views here are incredible of both the bridge and the city of San Fran. It gets busy with tourist buses and organised tours but there's plenty of free parking and there's rest rooms but no opportunity to buy any food or drink so take some with you.

There are great views available here and we arrived via the hop on hop off bus service so spent about half an hour at the location. There are toilets available but it could do with a coffee/gift shop which I am sure would do well .
Stunning location

If you are looking for that perfect spot for the great shot of the bridge and San Francisco, this is the #1 place to go. Usually plenty of parking spots and the ability to walk around for different perspectives.

We have planned and saved and waited and the day finally arrived for our visit. We could not see a thing from the view point. We were advised that is not uncommon in July. I have seen other photos so assuming we could see it would be a nice spot.

It's of course one of the best spots for taking pictures of the bridge. That means that it is crowded and there are many buses.
But you can see the bridge from everywhere along the North bay (Fishermans Wharf etc.) in San Francisco and if you are on a boat between the bridge and Alcatraz, so there is not really a need to watch the bridge from this observation point.

This is an easy pull over heading out of town across the bridge. For simplicity and great photos of the city and bay, it's perfect and definitely a must. But the angle of the bridge in the view is too close to get those sweeping shots, so make sure you visit other overlooks as well. Such a beautiful area!

You just have to turn off Highway 101 and take the short ride to Vista Point on a clear day. The view of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco is just awesome! You can also continue up higher to the Battery stations and get a great side view of the bridge too. Don't miss it!

We missed the Golden Gate Visitor Center on the way over to Muir Woods. If you plan to stop there, be sure to have it in your phone as your destination, otherwise it can be tricky. Instead on our way back, we stopped at the Vista Point just before you pay the toll to cross back over into San Francisco. In this area you climb up along the coast in your car and there are several look out places where you can park. It was crowded on Thursday afternoon when we attempted to do this, so we had to go to a higher area to find a parking place. We just parked there for a minute to take a quick photo. On the way down just before we got to the highway, we saw a parking lot. We pulled in there and walked down under the bridge to the other side of the road. From there, there was a lookout point with a statue with a Sailor tribute. There was also a place where you could walk down some steps to walk across the bridge. We walked part way across and then came back. There was no charge to park in the lot. Also, there is no toll to cross the bridge from San Francisco to Sausalito / Muir Woods, however there is a toll heading into San Francisco when you cross the bridge. There is no place to pay cash. You can pay the toll online before or after you cross. If you do it after, it needs to be done within 48 hours. We had a rental car, so paid afterwards — which was very easy on their website. We set a reminder on our phone and did it as soon as we returned the car. To do it yourself, just estimate the time period that you went over the bridge and have the license plate number. My husband accidentally did a much wider window than was necessary. That means if another person rented the car after we returned it, then we were paying their tolls too. This was probably only a 2 hour window, so fingers crossed that does not happen. By paying directly, you avoid the rental car company being sent a notice ... and then you paying a convenience fee to the rental car company for the toll. The first time we rented a car for a day, the rental company told us about how to pay the tolls ... the second time they did not. We really enjoyed our visit.

It is the best place to view the goldengate bridge in various beautiful angles.Fog plays spoil sport.check the weather. If it is not foggy you can capture the bridge in all its glory with sanfrancisco city as backdrop.rest rooms are available

would recommend going to get some fantastic views of the bay and the golden gate bridge. there are a few parking spaces. alternatively some of the buses go there
alternatively you can walk across the bridge

This vista point can only be driven to by coming from the city and is the 1st exit off the bridge. This view is on the EAST side of the bridge.
You can also walk under the bridge to get to this vista by parking at the trailhead off Conzelman Rd.
The better view is from the Marin Headlands which is also harder to get. My photos are the view from this Vista point.

I had the opportunity to visit this photo spot twice after I walked the bridge and with a tour group (going to Muir Woods). The second visit (early morning on a Sunday) was less crowded and you had your pick of spots for photos. Wish I had had the time/energy to go up the hill to the battery view point.

nice point for a stop to have a look over the bay. we had a clear day and a verry good view. easy to make a stop, enough parking places

First sunny day out of three when visiting San Francisco. We jumped at chance to visit the bridge. The views were spectacular. However, trying to find a spot to take a photo while others wait behind you to climb on the same spot makes it a little uncomfortable..but worth it for a once in lifetime view.

Not open during the pandemic, but as we drove by, we could see it is a spectacular place, but we knew that as we have been here before. Come back when it is open and be overwhelmed by beauty.

Must see for tourist visits to San Francisco. Excellent views of San Francisco straight ahead, the Golden Gate Bridge to the right, and East Bay to the left. GREAT photo spot. Fog can be a problem, so check the weather, first. Can be cold; might want to wear a sweater.
An even better place to catch views of the bridge and the Greater SF Bay Area is along the Marin Headlands, close by (right across the freeway); old WW2 gun emplacements, one of the best views on Earth (can be very windy).

This is a must-see spot free of charge free parking can be crowded on the weekends when you want to look at the Golden Gate Bridge. When it is foggy may not see it at all so skip it if you are heading that way and you can't see the bridge while you're driving.

This park is well maintained and clean. Great views and picture opportunities. There are informative markers for the various points of interest (Angel Island, Berkeley, Alcatraz, etc.) A must stop and see.

Located at the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge it is accessible only to those northbound on the bridge. This creates maor traffic jams on weekends or special bay event days as the slow lane of the bridge (one of two or three lanes gets backed up by those trying to get to Vista Point where there may be limited or no parking
Personally I would suggest going on a weekday or simply pass it up and find a different view of the bay.

Great spot to get to for fantastic views and pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco. Great on a clear day -- can get a bit of fog in morning or on rainy days.

A short walk takes you to a wide open viewpoint with glorious sights of the bridge and city. I felt lucky that it was a gorgeous day with no fog or moisture...amazing for November! You get a view of Alcatraz in the distance as well.

For those that want the bridge experience the Big Bus hop on takes you over the bridge to Vista Point for some awesome views. Well worth getting there.

Terrific overall view of bay and city. There is a photo opportunity where the bridge's towers align perfectly to the south for a different view. Restrooms are available. Our stop was part of a Princess Cruises shore excursion by motor coach. Parking might be a concern otherwise. We had a perfect weather day--sunny and not breezy.
There is no fee.

This is a busy place as everyone wants to get a good photo of the golden gate bridge. It is worth the wait to get a great photo and what stunning views of the bay too

We can surely recommend to take the way up to the mountain and have this superb view of San Francisco Bay, specially it will be a sunny day

We've been to the Golden Gate Bridge many times as it is different ever time you go because of the fog. Vista Point was beautiful, road very steep, but gorgeous. We go different times of the day as well to get various views again because of the fog.

got off our hop on hop off tour bus here for a view of the Bridge and Bay. spectacular views from high up. Can be lots of people so go early or late if you want it to yourself, but it is a large area and plenty of spots to take a picture from

Nice panoramic view on the Golden Gate Bridge but windy...amazing place. The day we went was a bit foggy so has to be patience to get the best shots.

Great location and amazing views! It is a right of passage to cross over the bridge and visit the Vista Point! There are amazing views, lot of photo shots, and a lot of people! Why? Because it is one of the best places to view the city, the bridge, and the east side of the city!

This is the first exit after crossing the Golden Gate if you are traveling north. We came here early one morning on our way to Muir Woods, and there was just a sprinkling of people there at that time. The place is well known for offering unsurpassed views of the stunning beauty of the fabulous bridge. Boy! How lucky were we to experience those unforgettable views!!
We also stopped here another time by tour bus. They have their own parking spot. We noticed that it is a busy place in the afternoon because a lot of people stop here just for the views. But most of them are usually in and out, so you are able to secure a parking spot in a few minutes.
There is a very nice statue of The Lone Sailor in the center of the lot, and pretty landscaping around it.
We were extremely fortunate to have had sunny days on both the times that we stopped here, so we were able to get some splendid shots of one our favorite bridges. The Bay is also amazing from this place.

Great views of the bridge, parking (can be crowded at peak), access to the east bridge walkway all form good reasons to visit Vista Point, but also it is a scene in and of itself. Tourist from around the world snap selfies, take pictures, chat and enjoy the views. Whether shrouded in fog or basking in the sun, Vista Point provides a great setting to enjoy the GG Bridge. If you are coming form the City, the exit is the first exit on the north side. At peak times, you may need to wait for a parking spot to open up. From the north, exit the second Sausalito exit, the last before the bridge. turn left and park in the lot first lot on the left. You will be on the west side of the bridge, but walk toward the bridge and you will see a stair way down that leads under the bridge to get you to Vista Point. Of course you can ride a bike, hike or jog from San Francisco to access Vista Point (recommended!). Hop on hop off bus tours also serve Vista Point.

After recommendation from a colleague, we drove across Golden Gate Bridge, to stop at Vista Point
The bridge had almost disappeared in the fog, but arriving at Vista Point, you great views of the fog surrounding the bridge and the city. The fog lifted while we were there, so the views changed a lot.
It was very crowded but people did not spend long so it was easy to get some good shots.
Plenty of parking places when we were there around 11 am on a Friday.

We parked at the bottom of the hill right beside the entrance to the golden gate bridge. Hiked up less than a mile. Beautiful view of the water, city, and bridge from the top. Also a very interesting army historic site at the top of the hill which my husband enjoyed touring.

Just gorgeous, with varying experiences depending on the weather. Watching the fog roll in is incredible.

Its a stopping place to get the most amazing view of the bridge and the city. It is just a road up the hillside with parking spots but you have to go to get the amazing view.

My father served in the Navy during WWII. After storming the beaches of Normandy on D-Day, he was subsequently shipped to the Pacific to serve on Okinawa. After VJ Day, he returned to San Francisco. The views at Vista Point greeted him back to our country. I miss my dad. Being here made me feel close to him again. It reminded me of all the sailors who savored this spot, either leaving our shores or returning to them. May God bless our brave mariners and may God bless America, land that I love and honor.

We stopped here at a time when there was no fog which was absolutely perfect. However, this is an incredibly popular spot so it makes finding parking tricky. The view is amazing; it is definitely the best place to take photos of the bridge!

Nice experience. Good views on offer. Would be lovely on a sunny day. Sadly, we were cold after a short period of time. Choose your day carefully!

We stopped here on our way to Sausalito, you change public buses here before crossing the iconic bridge. The view of the bridge makes a great photo shoot. It was pretty windy though when we went, despite being a sunny day, so take a hoodie.

We were drop off by coach as parking can be difficult.Great view of San Francisco and we were lucky to have a lovely sunny day

We visited here with 2 small children (2 and 4) and although there is nothing specific for kids it was still great to have a look around with them. There is a bit of traffic but also lots of space for a bit of running around and plenty of things to look and point at.
Parking is free (we had a rental car), and we were here on a colder week day so parking was not a problem for us. The hop-on-hop-off bus comes here too and as such it's not a bad spot to park your car for the day and take that. (although I'm sure they don't like you doing that due to limited parking).
There are toilets, but not that clean and tidy.
We considered hopping on the hop-on-hop-off bus, but instead explored the mill valley a bit further. Go up the road that you can see on the right side when facing the golden gate bridge. Views are plentifull. Lots of opportunities to stop and have a short walk too.
When coming from the city, make sure to stay on the most right lane before exiting the bridge as the exit comes quite quickly afterwards.

We were leaving from Cavallo Point and took this route just to go around one last time, oh boy, this was possibly the best thing we could have done! The views about 1 hour prior Sunset are remarkable. I will say its the BEst View Point EVER!

You can easily drive past, but stop and get a great visual experience. It will be loaded with people taking photos. it is a premier photo spot.

Took the open top bus across from San Francisco, for a great view of the Bay and Golden Gate Bridge.
Can be quite breezy though, so best to dress in layers!

one of the best places to stand admire the golden gate bridge..the view is breathtaking..on your one side you have the golden gate and on the other you vast endless pacific, simply stunning..visit it during sunset it gets magical..

Awesome view, nice walking. Great point to stop and stretch out your legs. Would take the time to make a stop here.

Spectacular views. Safe walk ways. The Sausalito side of the bridge is more peaceful and in touch with nature. Worth your while walking across all the way, come wind or rain or sunshine!

1st exit right off the 101 Freeway after crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, this spot offers great views of the bridge, San Francisco Bay and city skyline. However, Battery Spencer on the other side of the highway offers an even better view.

Vista Point East, accessed from coming over the bridge from San Francisco, a quick exit so keep your eyes open, which is always a good idea when driving anywhere. View is wonderful, had a clear sunny day, and was very impressive and wonderful place to be and enjoy.

Whenever we have out of town guests we always take them to see the Golden Gate Bridge. It's worth the bridge toll to drive across the this vista and see the bridge with the city at the same time. Everyone we have ever taken to this spot goes crazy for it!

Great views of the Golden Gate Bridge. It's a law in San Francisco that you have to come here to take the required selfie with the bridge in the background. Didn't want to be an outlaw so we went. You will notice the police car in one of the pics. The officer explained that they like to have a presence during the peak times because of the rampant auto break-ins in SF and surrounding areas. He explained that people park, walk a few feet away from their car to take pictures and the thieves pull up, smash their window, grab the purse(s), jump back in their car and drive away. So don't leave ANYTHING in view in your car while parked.

Crazy amounts of people on bikes and on foot. Seemed to be unusually clear this time of year. Gorgeous!

There are several "vista points" or places to park to get gorgeous views of the Golden Gate Bridge. One is located on the Sausalito (NON-San Francisco) side closest to the Bay & you can also walk onto the Bridge. There are also BETTER views if you take Conzelman Road up the mountain on the Ocean side of the Bridge. Be sure to go to Battery Spencer (use Google Maps). Lastly, there is a Vista Point on the San Francisco / Presidio side of the Golden Gate Bridge.

There is quite a bit of traffic on the weekends - try to go mid week. Parking is a problem...just relax and wait...there is always a spot opening up.
really great place for a photo op. It really is a must!

First of all, this spot is WINDY. I recommend bringing a jacket of some kind unless its very warm. Parking was also a pain, you may have to wait and fight a bit for a spot. Those items aside, it is WORTH IT! Great views of the golden gate bridge, city, angel island and Alcatraz on a clear day. Bring a decent camera, you will have plenty of good shots.

Rode bikes here from San Francisco and stopped off to use the bathrooms and enjoy the views of San Francisco. This is really a great place to stop and view the city from across the bay right next to the GGB. This little park offers a nice monument to the some of the professional mariners of our country including the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Merchant Marines. I thought it was a very nice tribute and at a perfect place. You only need about 30 mins here, but definitely go and enjoy it.

This is such a beautiful and incredible review, I highly recommend you take the time if in the area. Its a pretty incredible drive, walk bike to the top!

It is just a breathtaking experience with the amazing view of the ocean and the beauty of the weather ( August 1st).
We went there using the hop on-hop off bus but you can go on your own using a bicycle or uber then you walk along the bridge.
Take your water or snacks with you as there is no shops at there only rest rooms.
I’m attaching some pictures from there.

Had a few minutes and stopped at Vista Point to see another angle of San Francisco and we were so happy that we did. It was a fantastic look at the city and surroundings!

IMHO the best view of San Francisco. It's a short drive (or bike) up the hill, but the view is completely worth it. If you have time, go further, down to the lighthouse, past the old military bunkers, then down to Rodeo beach.

This is a gorgeous view of the bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. If you are here as the sun is setting the bridge turns gold and is a stunning color.

Just as you come off the Golden Gate Bridge leaving SF there is an exit for Vista Point. A popular tourist attraction with it's high view over the bay. Ample parking is available for most vehicles. Public restrooms are available. Be patient when framing your favorite picture because there are many there attempting to do the same. Lots of other places around the bay with different perspectives, but this is one that is not too far off the beaten path.

We stopped here twice during our week in Northern CA. Great views of the City, Bridges, Alcatraz, the Bay and Beyond! A Must See when visiting the area!

We were there for a walk across the bridge and it was a great spot. If you want to get the feel for the bridge then i would suggest a walk across this awsome bridge. Take a jacket!!

Awesome views of Golden Gate Bridge from Vista Point at North side of the bridge in Sausalito. Ample car parking space there with easy in and out from the Vista Point makes the visit comfortable. Street food hawkers were there with many visitors.

Skip 'Vista Point' (on northeast side of bridge and crammed with big tour buses and instead take the next (Sausalito) exit, turn left under freeway (101) and wind your way up the Marin Headlands on the northwest side. Drive to the very tiptop. The view is one of the most iconic in the world! Viewing GG bridge from high above with SF shimmering like Oz in the distance. It's simply awe inspiring. If you're a passenger, shut your eyes until you get to the top to enhance the surprise.
Also, walk through one of the tunnels and explore old Nike missile pads and experience stunning ocean views to the northwest.

There's a bit of a hike to get to Vista Point and it's usually foggy and very breezy; however, if you're lucky enough to catch a sunny day, you are in for a treat. The views of the Golden Gate are amazing from here and it makes up for great photo ops.
Parking is very limited and public restrooms are so disgusting they are basically unusable, but the spot is relaxing and beautiful

If you want Streets of San Francisco, basic instinct and other movie shots, it’s here. There’s a lighthouse at the base and can get good shots of the bridge.

Worth the walk to see the view, we walk from were the bus tours stop it took about 10/15 mins great shots to be had

Almost as soon as my boyfriend picked me up from the airport, he drove me here and proposed, while people nearby took pictures and filmed it! Magnificent overlook and a romantic place for a proposal!

Loved coming here. Got a car to vista point and walked back across the bridge. Lovely view and restrooms and a place to eat a snack. There are also places to stop along the walk back across the bridge. Highly suggest.

The Vista Point provides views of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco. Beautiful sight especially as the fog rolls across the bridge

Head up to the Marine Headlands to have the best view of the Golden Gate Bridge and SF City at the background.

This is so definitely worth the time! You get amazing views of the Golden Gate Bridge (wide angle recommended, downtown San Fran (zoom lens), and Alcatraz, etc.

there is no place in the world ;you can see this , but here
where else can you get on top of a major bridge, let a lone the Golden Gate !! Got to see it to believe it

After crossing the Golden Gate to the north the vista point provides a great spot to look back at the Golden Gate Bridge and the City. Don't miss the statue of the Lone Sailor.

Once you cross the Golden Gate it's the first stop. It is certainly worth taking the time to check out the views. Plenty of photo opts are available from this great vantage point. There is plenty of free parking and a different perspective from Vista Point.

Walked across the bridge and then looked back -- beautiful view of the amazing Golden Gate Bridge! Must see!

Walked from Fisherman's Wharf to Sausalito. Long but fun. Great views, bathrooms, parking. No reason not to take a stop and photograph.

The Golden Gate Bride from this vista is absolutely beautiful. If you're nearby, stop and see it. You won't forget it! If you're a runner, consider running the bridge as well. You won't regret it!

The entrance to Vista Point is just beyond the northern edge of the bridge. Very crowded on summer weekends, with a long line of cars backing up onto the bridge, clogging the 2 right lanes. Not so bad at other times or days. They are trying to help this situation by blocking parking on weekends, till Labor Day. You can still go to Vista point by tour bus, public bus, taxi, or walking. (Not sure about Uber, etc.) Or go on weekdays or after Labor Day.
Same thing at the parking area at the southern edge of the bridge.

This place is usually packed with a long line on the bridge waiting to exit and park....
If walking on/across the bridge is not important, take the next exit (Alexander Ave. and drive toward the Marin Headlands - go as far up the road as you wish for an even more spectacular view of the bridge....

This is an obligatory stop that allows the visitor to appreciate the Golden Gate Bridge and the city of San Fran in all their glory. From here, walt the Golden Gate Bridge or go to Sausalito to enjoy an afternoon trekking the streets of this nice city.

Try parking in the lot on the south west side of the bridge. Its not as crowded as the south east and you can walk on the old gun battery placements guarding the bay mouth from the late 1800's. Parking is more accessible and available on this side too.

This is a good stopping point. There are a lot of places to view the bridge and the city. However, if this is your first time to SF, just stop, and smell the air, look at the islands, the city landscape, and the bridge. Have fun

Recommended point of view for photographing the Golden Gate from a good angle overlooking the bay

Stopped at Vista Point on our way from SFO to Healdsburg. Amazing views of the Golden Gate Bridge. We were lucky when we stopped there were not many people at all. It was cloudy and tiny bit of rain, but could get great views of the bridge. Really enjoyed the memorials they had to Navy/Coast Guard.

From Vista Point you can see the Golden bridge more wider, from begin to the end of bridge.
Year 2012 is my first visit to San Francisco and was lovely visit, it was October and the weather is cold better use jacket or sweater, a lot to see around Vista Point there is a soldier statue facing to the see.

This spot is an absolute must for anyone visiting the SF area. I prefer this to the bridge parking lot viewing area.

This vista point is iconic, this is the view seen on television.Sun or fog, the site is always spectacular. Drawback, too many autos, crazy drivers and crowds. Go off time; winter, early morning.

We got a Lyft up and back, so that made it easy. However, this also made us less inclined to travel further into the Marin headlands. But it was still great!

Breathtaking view of the most inspiring bridge! What a fantastic place to take impressive photos, and then just soak it all in!

We had a beautiful clear spring day and were rewarded with stunning views of the bridge, bay and city beyond. Lots of other options to explore the Marin Headlands and all are worth it.

If it is a clear day, definitely make the trip! The view is amazing!!! Not worth it if it isn’t clear, you won’t see much. We made the trip twice and you can see the difference in our pictures of clear vs not clear days.

We stopped here on our way to northern parts and it was well worth the time. The view was spectacular . The fog was rolling in from the other side of the bridge but we were in the clear and had a glorious view. It was a bit windy but we didn't care and truly enjoyed the sights as well as the information available on history. Perking is free and restrooms are available.

Good views of the bay and city. Not great of Alcatraz or the Golden Gate Bridge which is viewed essentially end on.
Also has the iconic Lone Sailor statue here.

Parked across the road and walked under the Bridge .amazing viewpoint of the Bay Area and Bridge. We then fullfilled a bucket list dream and walked the Bridge

Vista Point is a must stop for visitors to Golden Gate Bridge and Marin county. Stay to the right as you go north and take the Vista Point exit right after the bridge. One may have to search for parking for a while specially in summer. There are lots of places to view the bridge and the Marin Headlands recreation area. For a first time visitor one gets a good lay of the land from Vista Point. One can plan to walk the bridge, stroll around the point, take photographs of amazing San Francisco city, the fog, the bridge and the ships in the channel. One can also cross under the bridge to the other side and walk up to the top of the area near the bridge.

If coming to San Francisco for the first time, I guess you have to come to this vista point to take that selfie you have been seeing all over Instagram. With that being said, man what a beautiful view.

The views of the Bridge and the memorial to the Lone Sailor are brilliant. It can be very busy and it may take some time to get that perfect shot - but it is worth it. Keep an eye on your belongings - there are restrooms here - not as busy as those at the other end of the Bridge.

We were driving back to San Francisco and took a side trip. We were happy that we did, though the vista view parking has been closed off. Driving by you still get this great view of the iconic bridge.

This is an iconic view of the bridge and the city. A must if visiting here. We even took a photo for our Christmas cards one year.

We drove north on US 101 across the Golden Gate Bridge. We stopped by the Vista view point and were not disappointed. The view of the bridge was remarkable. You can see Alcatraz from this site. There is a sad monument to all the sailors and men of our armed services that left from San Francisco never to return. The Golden Gate Bridge was the last site of home they would see. Parking is a challenge but worth waiting for. You can easily take 10-15 pictures depending on the weather.

Excellent view of the Golden Gate Bridge and SF Bay! May have to wait for a parking spot but a beautiful scene!!
Too many rude drivers!!
Don't do this during weekends, holidays or summertime! At every vantage parking area there are few spaces and tons of cars waiting for a vacant spot! They clog the road so you are stuck waiting for the line to move! Go on an off day, the view is spectacular especially at the first parking area on the way up the hill! Check the fog though, if the view sucks at parking level one it isn't going to be better on the higher levels.
