My wife and I love to walk over this awesome bridge. I go under it all the time on our Blue Heaven riverboat tours!

Loved walking across this bridge several times...lots of beautiful scenery and views. Great walking town.

Very comfortable walking bridge with excellent views, nearby museums and restaurants. Tons of history here. I love this area.

On our first night in Chattanooga, we went down to the waterfront. It was beautiful and had alot to do nearby. When I looked way up and saw people walking across the bridge. We decided to cross it the next day. It was so cool! It's pedestrian (and pets) only, including bikes. Every so often along the bridge, there are placards? with historical facts with pictures of Chattanooga and the bridges. There are many, many benches along both sides of the bridge to rest or take in the view. The large potted flowers near all of the benches, added to the beauty and charm.
I'd say the walk across is about 1/2 mile, so a mile total, if you come back.

A different experience crossing the TN River. Longer than we thought. Grandkids enjoyed it. Went to carrousel at the end

Walnut Street Bridge is nice pedestrian bridge with nice views. It has a wood surface that’s a bit “bumpy” and some additional benches would be a nice addition.

Longest pedestrian bridge in the US. Spans the Tennessee River. Pretty views. Made like a boardwalk with metal. Bicycles allowed on bridge. On one end is Downtown, near Riverwalk and Bluff View Arts District and Aquarium and an ice cream shop (called The Ice Cream Show) . Other end is Northshore and Coolidge Park and some interesting shops and an ice cream shop (called Clumpies). We love ice cream! Lots of people walking the bridge in the evening. There are benches on the bridge at intervals.

We visited on a somewhat cloudy Saturday afternoon. The walk across was great with nice views of the river. We parked on the street in metered parking.

What a beautiful way to get a little exercise. This bridge had a great view up and down the river. It takes you from downtown to the business district in the other side. An easy 7 minutes walk, very flat. Worth the walk. You won't be disappointed!

I took the shuttle across the river, visited the carousel and water play area, then walked across the bridge to the museum and aquarium. Lovely views. Lots of walkers. I’d do it often if I lived there. My favorite part of Chattanooga.

Absolutely worth it! Great views and history displays along the bridge. We really enjoyed our stroll both ways!
We enjoyed our time in Chattanooga all except the Southern Belle Riverboat Cruise (HORRIBLE)
The pedestrian bridge was one of our favorite stops

This is such an amazing bridge to walk on in down town Chattanooga. It is absolutely beautiful at night. During Christmas time the bridgw is decorated and you will see Santa, you will see some elves. Throughout the year you will see local artist from singers, to artist and if your lucky you will see a marriage proposal.

Take the free electric shuttle to North Chattanooga. Ride the $1 carousel and then walk back to Chattanooga over the pedestrian bridge. There is some signage but it can be hard to read. That being said on a nice day this is a great way to get some exercise and to enjoy the view. Highly recommend.

This is a favorite free activity in Chattanooga. You should never skip walking on this pedestrian bridge when visiting.

We visited Chattanooga for a weekend getaway, and we fell in love with the city! The Walnut Street Bridge was absolutely beautiful at night and is a must see for anyone who has never been to Chattanooga before. My boyfriend is afraid of heights, and even he was able to enjoy the bridge and it’s beauty.

After a lunch at Whitebird, these areas are instagram-worthy and perfect for family walks or morning runs!

Such a simple task, walk across a bridge, but wow, what a bridge! Rich in history, architecture and engineering! The walk, with all its inhabitants, makes it a wonderful and rewarding trip!

The bridge was an amazing view especially at night when the lights were reflect off of the water....

I would suggest going in the early morning or late afternoon. We went midday and it was very hot (June). There are joggers, bikers, pedestrians...a lot of activity, but it wasn't crowded at all. You get a fantastic view of the river and there are benches placed along the bridge at intervals for sitting and enjoying the view. There are shops and restaurants on both sides and an art museum as well. Catch the electric bus that is free of charge to drop you off and walk back across. There is an information desk at the bus terminal by the Mellow Mushroom and you can hop on your bus from there. I believe the bridge is also wheelchair accessible. I think a late afternoon stroll would be your best bet to watch the sunset on the river. Buy something to drink before going across if you are the thirsty type. It probably takes a good 30 minutes to walk over the bridge. Allow more time to sit and relax. Enjoy!

The whole area here is nice and we enjoyed walking around here. There is a lot to see. The bridge has good scenery with some good photo opportunities.

If you are in the downtown area, make sure you walk across the Walnut Street Bridge and explore the North side of the river. Fun to walk across a pedestrian-only bridge!

Beautiful bridge. One end is attached to a nice part of town, the other is not. The bridge is very easy to get to, with plenty of parking all around.

Located on both shores of downtown Chattanooga. A short and easy walk for shopping, dinning and sight seeing.

I wish we had something like this in my home city! It's a nice walking bridge that gives great views of the river. It was also in an artsy neighborhood with a lot to look at and explore. Quick walk, but we enjoyed the stroll. We walked over from the aquarium.

We enjoyed walking across the bridge, and stopped at the Walnut Bridge Market, as well as the Ice Cream Show. The bridge is very nice, safe for kids, and has unparalleled views of the river and the city! Highly recommended, just not in the heat of the day!!

Enjoyed this easy half mile walk across the bridge. What a nice way to get out and enjoy fresh air. Loved it!

When we have visitors to the Chattanooga area, we take or direct them to the walking bridge.
We have walked it often to the North Shore to experience the restaurants and park, all of which are a family’s must do list..

I enjoyed the walk across the bridge. It is interesting point in downtown Chattanooga- easily accessible to downtown

Loved all the history of this bridge we were given during our duck tour. Made us want to see it up close and personal. Interesting place to visit.

By walking from the North shore to the South shore we were able to get a view of Chattanooga that you can't get while driving.

The bridge was built in 1890 and was the first to connect downtown Chattanooga with the North Shore area. It's one of the world's longest pedestrian bridges. We accessed the bridge a couple of blocks from the Aquarium. On the North Shore, you can visit Coolidge Park which houses an 1894 antique carousel. There are numerous shops and restaurants on the main road. If you don't want to walk back there is a free shuttle bus that leaves from the Regions Bank on Tremont Street (about 3 blocks). The shuttle takes you to the Visitor Center across the street from the Aquarium.

Longest pedestrian bridge in the world! Great views and worth a visit to the other side to find restaurants and bars

Everyone says you must walk this bridge when you visit Chattanooga. We chose a really nice day, and the views were nice, and it was fun walking around exploring this city. This pedestrian only bridge is between two other bridges that go over the Tennessee River.

A historical bridge turned into a walking bridge. Nice views. It used to be the longest but apparently there is one in China which is now longer. Many people walking, biking and skate boarding. A well used footbridge.

I stumbled upon this by accident. It was a bridge, it was free so why not? I’m glad I took the time. It provided some great views and was a pleasant walk. Plus it lead to a lot of neat little stores and part of town that really seems worlds apart from the rest of downtown Chattanooga.

Pretty views from this wide pedestrian bridge. Good activity for a sunny fall day. The historical plaques are weathered and were a little difficult to read but an enjoyable walk regardless.

We loved the walnut street bridge and walked it several times on our visit. Very friendly for families, couples or singles. Relaxing, running, bicycling, walking or just sitting and taking in the breeze.

I say free but if you're driving it does cost to park anywhere in Chattanooga. Great walk in the fresh air. Beautiful views on each side of the river and the river itself. On the other side, Coolidge Park and the shops on Frazier Ave. are a great way to spend an hour or so.

Lovely day, great walk to northshore section of town. With family for the day which made the day extra nice. Great views across river!

Good walking bridge. Park on north side of river, and Aquarium and art museum on the south side of the river. Went in October, arriving in late afternoon. Few tourists. A little windy, but very scenic.

We love to walk the Walnut Street Bridge from Chattanooga to Coolidge Park. It is a wonderful place to people watch, meet up with new friends and get a bit of exercise, too.

Had to walk North America's longest pedestrian bridge while visiting Chattanooga. Nice walk in good weather.

We almost didn't walk the Bridge as it was a very ot day but I am so glad we did. A beautiful vista and coold breezes across the water. Also several historic markers along the way. A fun thing to do.

Here, on the bridge, it is calm. There are no motor vehicles. You can stop for a while if you wish and take in the magnificent Tennessee river and the surrounding city. Keep an eye out for barge traffic. Hundreds of barges ply these waters carrying bulk cargo north and south. If you are traveling toward downtown there are tons of restaurants and shops, museums to climbing adventures with the aquarium in between. If you are heading to the North Shore there are lots of restaurants, shops, 2 parks and an art gallery all in a cool neighborhood.

This is a nice walkway that allows you to enjoy the north and south sides of the river. You do need to watch out for people on bicycles. They seem to think it is a race to see who can cross first. You will encounter people playing guitars and singing for tips. They won't hassle you in any kind of way and just seem to be enjoying themselves. Its clean and maintained very well. The views are enticing as well.

What a great way to continue to use a bridge for tourism and a great walk. The Walnut Street Bridge offers walkers a great view for their exercise while at the same time offering tourists a great place to see the river from a unique perspective. How many times have you wished as you were driving across a bridge that you could stop and take in the view? Here's your chance.

Very nice and scenic place to visit. Nice shopping and friendly attendants. Fairyland cave was also set up really nice.

We so enjoyed strolling the bridge with family while taking in the views and enjoying the nice bridge. The park below was great and we just loved the urban feel. Was able to get some fun Photography shots and returned to take more once nightfall came. By the time we left (around 9:30pm it had cleared out! Great place to take the time to see. Wish we had more time to enjoy nearby shops but this gives us a great reason to return! 😀

A beautiful view without the fear of being run over by traffic. Watch out for bicycles, but a great walk leading to a nice park and a carousel ride.

Get the electric bus over to the other side from the main part of town and take this old bridge, which has been pedestrianised, back over. Its atmospheric, part of the old historical city, and the views are gorgeous.

Great destination. Very nice area for a walk. Architecturally great. It is worth planning some time there and exploring the area

What a fun walk! Grab you some coffee from the Stone Cup and enjoy the stroll. We did and we all enjoyed the peaceful time along the bridge.

My hat is off to those with the foresight to recognize the community jewel this bridge would be as a pedestrian bridge. It appears to be heavily used by both locals and visitors.

Such a beautiful view, grab a coffee and find a bench. So nice and breezy. So peaceful. We really enjoyed it.

The bridge and surrounding area are safe and enjoyable walk. Parking in many areas is free after 6pm. Beautiful views and entertainment options. Lots of ice cream shops. Great exercise and quality family time. Would recommend for all ages.

We stopped in Chattanooga for a few hours on our way home from Knoxville. After eating nearby, we made the walk across the bridge to North Shore. After the wife lost money on the other side (of course), we made the return trip. A great walk on a beautiful day with some wonderful views all around.

This bridge is said to be the longest pedestrian bridge in the country. I am guessing it once was the only bridge, because now a much more modern one runs alongside it.
It was a delightful place for a stroll and provided nice views of the river. Along the bridge, we spotted a couple of musicians playing for any tips you could provide and also saw a "Poet for Hire," which intrigued me, but I did not investigate. Once you walk across the bridge, you are in another area of Chattanooga. You can walk along street there and shop some, or turn around and walk back.

Took a wonderful fall evening walk with my teens. As we walked over the riverfront/Coolidge Park, a band with a bagpipe player was practicing below. It was magical and joyous. On the other side, we enjoyed Clumpy's Ice Cream and Cookie Dough. Chattanooga has so much to offer; love the vibe of this city.

I was visiting downtown Chattanooga when I decided to stop and check out the bridge. I walked about two-thirds of the way before I turned around and went back. There was plenty of space for lots of people. It was not very crowded when I was there. I guess I hoped for better views of the city or river. It was pretty basic overall for me. I would not go out of my way to visit this attraction.

We came here late one night with the family. after a good coffee we were told to take a stroll. We are glad we did. There is a nostalgic feeling and it was nice to get the view from this bridge of the area and river.

Walking the bridge and seeing all the activity on the water was great.
we did notice that a new boards need replaced. So just watch you step...

it's a quite beautiful bridge, we drive through it and also can see it in the Coolidge park, walk along the river

This bridge is so cool! Learn about the history of it and we walked it a few times. It is so long that you forget you're on the bridge but you get some great views!

This bridge is a really nice walk from one side of the river to the other. With a variety of people using the bridge for foot traffic, exercise or cycling, there is still plenty of room for the average tourist to stop and admire the scenery.

Nice, relaxing walk across The Tennessee River. Easy to get to and a great park to relax at on the other side.

This is a cool bridge and I’m glad they kept it up. Nice to park on one side of the bridge and then walk over for lunch. Then you can walk off lunch on the way back!

Definitely a great place to hit for a jog or walk. My son and I were staying downtown so we walked this several times enjoying the views from every direction. The were several dozen joggers and couples on strolls that we passed but it never felt crowded.

Gorgeous view of Chattanooga and the Tennessee river from your walk on the bridge. Lots to do on each side of the bridge

Very clean. Not crowded. Great temperatures. Next time will be renting the bikes for a longer day there for the shops.

A trademark of the city, a fresh air kinda vibe, “grammable”, approach from both ends. I recommend checking it out on various times before or after sunset or sunrise to catch the vibe you want for your photos.

This landmark bridge was one of the original ways to cross the beautiful Tennessee River (aside from floating ferries). It was set for demo many years ago, but a group Chattanooga citizens stepped forward and saved the treasure. One must take the walk across to see Chattanooga from both sides of the river. Pet and family friendly, best during spring and fall.

Really neat to have bridge across the river just for pedestrians. Runners and bikers alike are able to go across to different sections of Chattanooga. Great place for photos of river.

My favorite spot in Chattanooga I have been so many times and the view is always breathtaking! Family Friendly Overlooking Coolidge park. A must see!

We rented bikes and rode over the bridge to view both sides of the river. Beautiful pedestrian bridge for walking and biking.

It's a beautiful view of downtown and the water. Especially if there is a full moon. Nice walk along with some exercise.

We arrived for a tour a little early so we decided to walk across the Walnut Street Bridge. I would love to walk this every day if I lived in the area. The view was outstanding.

my favorite part of a Chattanooga Get away is the Walnut Street Bridge.... get on it right near the Hunter museum and when you get across lose yourself in cafe's, Hippie shops and a ride on a historic Carousel.

Pretty cool pedestrian bridge. Interesting history on placards spaced across the bridge. Great views.

A nice, easy walk and scenic view across Walnut Bridge to North Chattanooga and Coolidge Park. Almost anyone could do the walk and I highly recommend you check out the carousel in Coolidge Park.

Great place for an evening stroll after dinner. Great view of beautiful park and water. Dog and kid friendly.

After finding my husband dead at home in July 2019, I started walking on the Walnut Street Bridge. Back and forth.
And back. It's been over a year now and although the loss is still present the joy that the Bridge gives me is superseding. All types of people with animals (typically dogs) practicing Social Distancing. Babies, joggers, bike riders, old, young, we are all on the bridge. The air on the bridge is swept off the TN river and is cooling even on the hottest days. I will always miss my husband but I am so grateful to the Walking Bridge for helping me mend my broken heart.

Great pedestrian bridge , beautiful views . Interesting sights at both ends , also good restaurants nearby . Nice outing !!!

We enjoyed the walk on the Walnut St. Pedestrian Bridge. The Moon River Music Fest was going on below us. It was cool to see the bands and also watch the kayakers and boaters below on the Tennessee River.

I ran across it and also on the paths next to the river. It was very cool! No cars....only people!!!!!

My wife and I enjoy walking the bridge and getting a little love cream. We find it a great place to take visitors and make new friends.

Nice walk. Good people watching. Chattanooga has a great downtown to walk around and explore. A hidden gem of a city.

During our visit we walked across this bridge and it was so beautiful. I think what they did for the people of Chattanooga was great! You can walk on this bridge with no cars and people. were running and just enjoying the bridge. I am so happy we got to experience it.

Went at night to see the twinkling snowflakes on the bridge. Cute place. Drove around, but did not walk the bridge at night. We had planned to come back during the day and walk it, but ran out of time. Neat area.

Great walk with great views! Also very convenient to others attractions, shops and restaurants. Also had access to parks along the riverfront.

A lovely Evening stroll across the bridge. Beautiful views of the river. Great for people watching. Lots of people with dogs, kids, couples, families, friends. Cops patrolling.

We was surprised to find out it's a pedestrian bridge whiling wondering in downtown Chattanooga. Nice weather with nice walk. It's about 15 min walk from downtown to the North shore on the other side of the bridge. There're beautiful parks on the other side as well if you would like to extending your walk. Also check out the ice-cream shop for the refresh after the walking.

We took an after-lunch relaxing walk there. The views were beautiful. It is the best way to see Chattanooga, the Tennessee River, and the North Shore. Walnut Street Bridge is very popular for a walk but not overcrowded. Good way to spend an hour or two. Highly recommended.

The Walnut Street Bridge is a walking bridge and a place to meet your friends for a leisurely stroll and visit. Definitely do not miss the bridge experience!

We went here on a friday and avoided some of the crowds but had a great time. Saw boats on the river and the Hunter Museum from the bridge. Grabbed a Kung Fu Boba Tea on one end and then walking back we grabbed an ice cream. It was a nice pleasant walk.

Beautiful bridge, and also was happy to watch rowing teams. Now I wish we'd seen the bridge from up close, as well, and could have walked across. Maybe next time.

The bridge is pedestrian only and was enjoyed by walkers , bikers, photographers and Instagramers. A perfect place to view the city skyline and walk to Coolidge Park for an ice cream or hop on the Tennessee Riverwalk trail.

I enjoyed going for an evening stroll across this bridge. It was a nice end to my evening. A lot of people use this, that's for sure.

Very enjoyable just to walk across the bridge. Kind of a relaxing walk. It could be romantic or fun. They also have areas you can sit on as well as benches.

Beautiful views of Chattanooga. Seems like a great place to run and walk across the bridge. It’s not too far of a walk, and seems like it’d be a beautiful place to watch the sunset.

I used to come here when in college in the ‘90s. It is great to see the bridge is still the same but with great amenities on both sides for dining and outdoor activities.

Nice place to stroll in the spring with friends or family. Can see the river and banks of Chattanooga.

Was cold and windy but it was a beautiful walk across the bridge. Nice view of Coolidge Park on one end, nice coffee shop on the other end.

This is a great place to walk and see the TN River! Places to sit and informational signs about the history along the way. Parking, ice cream shop and other places nearby. A fun Free thing to do!

This is a really long bridge that ends at a hipster end with a icecream shop on one end and local shops on the other.. there is also a merry go round for $1 that is indoors and fun for the kids.

This pedestrian bridge is next to a green belt, where people are walking and riding bikes. The bridge has walking lanes and bicycle lanes. It overlooks the Tennessee river, where you can watch people kayaking and enjoying other water activities. The bridge is close to many amenities, too, so you can walk to one side, enjoy a cup of cofee, and walk back. It has numerous benches along the way to sit, watch, and relax.

What a pleasant walk for everyone, doggies included. Love that it is pedestrian only. You still encounter an errant dog owner who doesn't pick up after their pet. I noticed people have placed locks on the bridge and I hope Chattanooga doesn't let this get out of hand. Benches available if you just want to relax and catch the sights. I saw a rowing team practicing on the river. Runners and walkers of all ages.

My kids and I had some time to kill while I’m Chattanooga. We explored the riverfront and walked the bridge. It was such a fun experience! The bridge provides great views. It was wide enough for a lot of people walking and biking without feeling crowded. It was a day morning so we enjoyed ice cream from Clumpies in Coolidge Park before walking back. I highly recommend.

My wife and I enjoyed walking along this bridge. It’s a great way to see the city and get exercise. The people of Chattanooga should be very proud of this gem in the heart of their beautiful city.

Paid $2 for 2 hours along the street close to the bridge. Enjoyed the view. Met quite a few people so it’s a popular bridge

Great outing for sightseeing and exercise. Fantastic architecture that is truly inspiring . Great location to get away and reflect

A great place to walk or ride your bike.
It connects the shops on the North Shore of Chattanooga with downtown Chattanooga.

There isn’t much to the bridge as far as sightseeing but the walk across is wonderful and safe with a great view of the river. We saw people jogging, pushing strollers, riding bikes, walking. This is a great asset to the city and allows visitors a chance to get out and explore more than you could behind the windshield of a car. We really enjoyed it!

We added this on to our Lookout Mountain trip. It was fun to walk across the bridge and look at the river. There is an ice cream shop that looked yummy!

Beautiful way to travel between both sides of the river. Public parking found in various areas on either side, as well as rental bikes if you chose to ride across. The bridge is about half a mile long...great way to get a brisk walk in or jog if you choose to make it a part of your workout.

Walk over the bridge and you'll have a great view of the river and the City. The neighborhood on the other side is nice to see also. There are some good restaurants and bars there.

We don't live near a major river, so one of my favorite activities in Chattanooga is walking out on the Walnut Street Bridge before dawn and watching the sunrise. Sometimes, I'm lucky and the sunrise is spectacular; sometimes, it's boring. Often there are water fowl to be sun and photographed. It's a wonderful experience to stand on the bridge and watch the sun come up and the fowl in the reflections of the sunrise.

Pedestrian only bridge that has beautiful views of the Chattanooga riverfront, Lookout Mountain in the distance, the Tennessee River, and a small island in the middle of the river.
Takes about ten minutes to cross. Most people will be initially walking from the downtown side to the North Shore. Once you reach the North Shore there is a carousel and water features for kids in the park below the bridge.
The carousel is open year round (11-7 daily in March) and the water play area is turned on during the summer. There are also some shops and restaurants on the North Shore side.
Lots of families and people walking across the bridge while we were there. Parking might be easier on the North Shore and walking back downtown than vice versa. You can walk in about five minutes from the aquarium but you do have to walk up a steep street to reach the bridge entrance.
There is a clumpies ice cream on the North Shore by the bridge and a place called the ice cream show on the downtown side of the bridge.

So beautiful and cool on hot days. Chattanooga has done a great job in making both sides of the river appealing.

Very cool bridge.
You can walk, bike, or run across it.
It is well lit and easy to navigate.
Offers great views of the river and both sides of the bridge.

I have been to Chattanooga several times, but I had never heard of this bridge before, my sister told me the view is beautiful- she was right!
We walked across during the day, I definitely want to go over the bridge at night for the view of the lights at night.

We loved walking the bridge. It was a beautiful day. Weather was perfect. A lot of great little shops and restaurants on the other side. It’s something we’ll definitely do again.

We visited from Nashville in 2012 and 2021 and always have fun just walking across the bridge. It offers great views of downtown and is a great connector to downtown and a cool shopping district.

Great walk for families and dogs. Clean and well maintained, safe from cars. I wish there were less bikers on the bridge but still a great place for morning and evening walks.

Everyone was very respectful of social distancing. There weren’t too many ppl wearing mask . We’re from Georgia and this was my first trip to Tennessee. I enjoyed the scenery. It was beautiful. The ppl at the park , were very culturally diverse which was also , great to see. This was a surprise trip . My husband told my 3 year of we were going to the mountains ! He was excited and everyone enjoyed my 11 month old walking on the grass .

This is a very pretty bridge on the north side of Chattanooga, which is the side with a lot of artsy and cool places. The bridge itself is nice. When you are walking you are going over the Tennessee River with pretty views of Coolidge Park, the Aquarium, and Hunter Museum. We enjoyed the walk as it was a hot day and there was a great breeze up on the bridge. I could give it five stars for it being a great bridge, but I am not sure any bridge is really worth five stars haha. There is a fantastic ice cream shop at the north side of the bridge, then when you cross you are right near the Aquarium. It was a lovely walk on a pretty day with pretty views. If you are by the Aquarium you might as well go over the bridge and visit some cool shops.

Absolutely amazing views from this pedestrian bridge. Every time we go to Chattanooga, this is a must. We love taking a leisurely stroll and making lots of photos! Hopefully, we will bring our dogs soon since this is a very pet friendly area!!!!

The bridge is a fabulous place to bring young kids. So many people out on a Sunday evening. Beautiful views and parking isn’t terrible. Highly recommend

We walked along the river banks on dusk after travelling across to Arkansas & back. People were jogging, doing yoga in the park & relaxing. When dark the bridge was lit up with colourful lighting patterns giving a great show. Worth a look

Lots of construction on south/east side. It's a nice walk in the evening. Totally would do again. Would be fun to bike.

Very nice bridge for a stroll. The wooden tread and the blue painted metal make a nice combination with the surrounding water and views while you're walking. The bridge is very popular and busy, so expect lots of other people to be walking/biking with you. I wouldn't recommend crossing the bridge during hot summer days. There is very little shade, and the sun will be beating down on you. Probably early Fall or Spring would be the best time to enjoy the walk with cooler temps. I'm guessing it took us about 20-30 min round trip to traverse the bridge at a leisurely pace.

My husband and I walked the bridge in the evening and just enjoyed the views after dinner. The ice cream place at the downtown end was a nice treat! The following day we rented bikes and rode the bridge which was also a nice experience. Something slower paced and a nice experience in the downtown area.

Restarted my walking routine this trip to Chattanooga. Need this bridge at home for walking. Fantastic view of the Tennessee River and all of Chattanooga. Wonderful cool breeze even midday. Four walks down, now to continue at home

Nice little stroll. We went in the evening after the sun set and it felt safe- there were a ton of couples, families and others using the bridge. I imagine going during the day would be nice too. My kids had a blast, we happened to be on the bridge when a bigger ship went under, and they got to watch. I was a little disappointed that the information plaques along the edge of the bridge were so faded I couldn't read them. Even if you don't go all the way across, it's fun to take a short walk along it.

Great excercise and kids loved it. Nice to have something like this downtown. A good view of town from both sides.

We walked across this bridge in the evening, the breeze over the river was great! The views and nice as well. Not sure if dogs are allowed to walk on the bridge as they are not allowed in the parks around the bridge. But We walked our dog over the bridge without issue. You have to pay for parking, but it’s free to walk across the bridge.

The view is nice and the walk enjoyable. It felt safe to walk around and was a good way to stretch our legs, after all the greaat food!

One of my favorite spots in Chattanooga, walking over this bridge over TN river. So peaceful, and great to see all kinds of people walking/running in downtown area.

We enjoyed a leisurely walk across the Walnut Street Bridge and the scenery was so beautiful. The water and green space was perfect and almost made me want to move to Chattanooga.

My family and I stayed on the North side of Chattanogga and used the Walnut Street Bridge most every day to travel across the Tennessee River to the South side. We loved to walk the bridge at night when it was lit up. Very historical and provides beautiful views of the river.

Great way to spend some time on a gorgeous day! Seeing people enjoying the sunny day and hearing children laughing good for everyone.

My two teenagers and I walked across the bridge to the North side. Some nice shops to poke around in. Girls took lots of photos on the bridge. Next time we will go to the cookie dough place.

It’s a bridge you walk on…it is a nice walk across and lots to see on water and around. We went from south to north. I liked
The historical photos and essays we saw but they were weathered and could use updating and better presentation.

Cool pedestrian bridge (one if the longest I understand). Nice views and great people watching. We were able to walk from our air bnb to the aquarium without the hassle of taking a car/parking.

Nice place to catch a breeze and some beautiful views of the river. We visited on a Monday afternoon and it was pretty quiet. Plenty of metered parking in the area. We saw a few homeless people sleeping on the bridge but did not feel unsafe. The city did a beautiful job restoring this bridge as a walkway. All along there are panels detailing the history of the Chattanooga waterfront and while I appreciated learning more about this, the text is seriously too long, did not read. You will see what I mean when you take a walk there. You can linger and sit on the bridge also, there are even outlets to charge your phone.

Grab yourself some ice cream at The Ice Cream Show at the aquarium end of the bridge and take a leisurely stroll. We lucked out to get almost a full moon for our stroll over the bridge and back. Lots of people, dogs and kids out for exercise. Beautiful view up and down the river.

Nice view, good little walk. History. It was very calming to be out there and see the beautiful Tennessee River.

The view was great. It is a great place to go for a run, or just hang out with friends. It was just a little anxiety-giving because of the height over the water to some people.

Great pedestrian connection of downtown Chattanooga and North Shore. Offers an easy and safe way over the Tennessee river.

The Walnut Street Bridge is a historic landmark of Chattanooga and was a great spot to watch the July 4th Fireworks celebration.
Picture spot must see if you are traveling to Chattanooga.

There are many places to roam, play, eat, drink on each side of the Tennessee River, and what better way than to walk across? This bridge is significant, see this Wikipedia summary:
Built in 1890, the 2,376 feet Walnut Street Bridge was the first to connect Chattanooga, Tennessee's downtown with the North Shore. The bridge's main spans are pin-connected Pennsylvania through truss spans. The top chord of these truss spans are configured in five sections, making the spans similar to the Camelback truss design. The bridge is historically significant as an extremely long and old example of its type; according to the Historic American Engineering Record: "The bridge was apparently the first non-military highway bridge across the Tennessee River."

This is a beautiful pedestrian bridge, near Hunter Museum, totally safe to walk because it is pedestrians and bicycles only. You can get wonderful photos from the bridge of the Tennessee River, Southern Belle riverboat and more.

It was nice to walk across the walking bridge, but the historical markers are all old and faded. Several benches have rotted away and the bridge just seems neglected. Though, I would still make an effort to visit it.

In Chattanooga for 3 months we decided to actually look around this time. The bridge was a neat view and a nice walk with my honey and our dog.

Aquarium on one side of the bridge and great little shops and a fabulous old carosol to ride on the other!

Great walk over this old bridge with nice views of the river and town. Easy walk, have some places to sit along. Not much on other side so just walk back at least that is what we did.

Beautiful walking bridge across the Tennessee River, we parked near Coolidge Park and the theatre, paid for 3 hours and took a nice stroll across this beautiful structure. Lots of people walking, couples, families, with pets and runners. Also has a larger middle area for bike riders, strollers, scooters. Was a nice walk at your own pace with beautiful views. Spent our anniversary morning walking across, then enjoying some sites near the art museum and back before our 3 hours expired. Highly recommend!

We took a little side trip to Walnut Street Bridge and it was a very cool photo opportunities. I suggest doing this and then getting some ice cream from one of the local places.

We chose a hot day to walk! Bring a bottle of water with you!!!
Buy ice cream after your walk at The Ice Cream Show! 🍦

Rent an ebike from the station on the west end of the bridge. It cost eight dollars per day. Ride across the bridge and cruise around Coolidge Park on the other side. There's lots of stuff to see over there. Including shops and cafes on Frazier Ave. Then ride back across the bridge and have a latte. Cheap fun and fresh air!

This bridge is a great place to stroll. Great views of mountains and river. Close to downtown. Connects to riverwalk.

The Walnut Street, or the walking bridge Connects the city’s north shore district to the area hosting the famous Chattanooga aquarium. Walk across this bridge to get to live minor league baseball at AT&T field or Moss Landing on the river front where the choices run from concerts to marathons. Back on the north shore you can polish your dancing skills with the moves to many well known dances emblazoned in brass into the sidewalks. You can also take in a live stage play at the Chattanooga Theatre Center or ride an antique carousel in Coolidge Park. Don’t miss this area!

Really nice bridge, it’s nice that you can walk across it and it’s only for pedestrians so no cars to worry about. Really nice views of the river and of other bridges nearby. Lots of shopping and restaurants nearby at the end of each side of the bridge. Ice cream shop, restaurants, souvenir shops, playground and a carousel.

You can have a nice walk crossing the bridge and watching the sunset. It is a really nice area with different restaurants to eat and places to visit like the art museum.

The bridge and the surrounding area were well kept and quite lovely. One can walk around many shops and restaurants on both sides and it is very suitable for walking. The views are great of water, mountains and city.

Its a gorgeous bridge that was used for about 20 years, lol. The history markers on the bridge need to be redone. It has lovely views and was a nice stroll after a wonderful meal.

We live in Chattanooga but have not done much in the area. On my wife's birthday we decided to walk across the Walnut Street Bridge. She had done this before but after our almost four years of marriage we decided to do this together. Actually I had never walked the bridge. So many views of Chattanooga, Lookout Mountain, the Tennessee River etc. There were many places to stop and rest. Our only anxiety was the fear of being run over from behind by bicycles. Usually you got an "excuse me" after almost being hit. It was a beautiful romantic walk that we hope to do again.

Very nice walk from near aquarium across river. Interesting shops, delis, and large park on the other side. Well used.

Very beautiful time of year to visit. we stopped here to see the scenery and it was well worth the fall foliage and water views.

Put Chattanooga on your list of places to visit within three hours of Atlanta. It's a lovely city with many sites and activities. Bridge over the river is cute and many residents and tourists alike were making good use of walking that area. Lovely.

We had a great time seeing local Chattanooga and walking the bridge at dusk. Not too strenuous for kids (6-12). Fun seeing locals and tourists, young and old, runners and walkers. Great views.

We walked it just after dark on a beautiful cool night in October 2020. The bridge has a great view of the city along the river at night and is great to look at and take pictures. There are however problems that make me doubt I will go back with my kids until they are much older. Just as we walked onto the bridge there was a group of homeless men gathered around an outlet charging their cellphones. One of these men was selling drugs to another person in an open-air drug market. As we walked across the bridge we encountered several groups of people who were smoking weed. I would not say this is a family-friendly environment and not something I want my kids exposed to.

Walk across bridge was worth the trip. Views were very nice and adventures on other side made trip worth the walk. Walking into park on other side was very nice.

This claims to be one of the longest pedestrian bridges in the world and is certainly a plesant wooden walkway. It is wide enough for joggers, cyclists and pedestrians to all have space on it. And the views over the river are great.

We walk the bridge any time we are in Chattanooga weather permitting. There is always beautiful scenery.

I don’t know how this is a top thing to do in Chattanooga. Definitely not a must do, but if you are bored and want something free to do, otherwise skip it. I don’t think we’ll be back.

Our hotel was in walking distance to bridge so we went several times. Great sunset every night. Great for people watching and occasionaly a boat. It is a long bridge so you get plenty exercise. We also took free shuttle to North Shore and walked back to town a couple times. Neat shops and food in North Shore.

This is such an enjoyable walk with fabulous views and relaxing because there are no cars! There is a park on one side that you can take a picnic and enjoy on a beautiful day while enjoying the walk and beautiful views. Take a few minutes from your day and enjoy!

We had a nice , long walk on the bridge. The Tennessee River was nice to look at. It is a great place to take photos, too!

We loved the riverwalk and bridge! It was so neat to see the river by foot. We went early evening so the sun was setting and lights made everything really pretty. This is definitely a worthwhile stop on your visit.

I love to walk on the Walnut Street Bridge. It is a great outdoor spot to get some exercise. It has an awesome vibe and beautiful view of the river.

Especially if you go in the middle of the week, you can have it all to yourself!! It’s fun to run over or simply stroll. It connects to really different parts of Chattanooga which both have a lot to offer!

This bridge was a highlight of our trip. Don’t miss it! Great sunset views, nice small shops on the north side to explore. Very well done public space.

We took a stroll across this bridge and had a great time!!! The view and atmosphere was great!! Can’t wait to go back!

A nice stroll across the river. Great picture opportunities. Small shops and eateries on other side on Frazier street.

We had a great evening to take our walk weatherwise so we got out and enjoyed it! The snowflakes on the bridge were flashing on and off and really added to the view. Seeing the boats on the water and all the families out for walks along the bridge like we were was also nice. So thankful to have this bridge available like this. Great asset to the downtown area with great views! Don't miss walking here if you visit Chattanooga!

If you've just visited the Tennessee Aquarium and want to stretch your legs, walk on over to the Walnut Street Bridge. This old bridge is now reserved for bicycles and pedestrians. It's decked with treated lumber so is quite comfortable in walking shoes. There are decent eating establishments on both sides of the river. This is a great way to kill an hour.

We spent a lazy afternoon exploring the River walk area of downtown Chattanooga. I like that the Walnut Street Bridge was kept and made into a pedestrian friendly walk. It was a sunny November day when we ambled over, enjoyed the view and had ice cream at Clumpies on the other side

I have not experienced downtown Chattanooga before, but I will definitely return. The streets felt safe - the views were amazing and it was wonderful to see this vibrant active community taking advantage of this "attraction".

I’m glad they restored this old bridge. It seemed narrow in comparison to modern bridges for cars and trains. Makes for some good photos. I imagine it’s a nice spot to watch fireworks, sunrise and sunsets. You can grab ice cream and just take a stroll. Also saw some people riding bikes. There’s many benches to people watch.

The bridge was cool we park in a pay to park lot down the street and made our way to the bridge. There are some cool shops in town along the way. We made our way across the bridge taking in the spectacular views of the river and the surrounding area. If you're in the area give it a go.

Really nice experience, mountains to one side, the other side had alot of boaters and kayaks. The art museum is really pretty and something i would like to do when I come back. There are lots of shops and restraunts in the area and a really good ice cream shop.

Our second visit to Chattanooga included a walk across the bridge. The distance is not far and the views are very nice. There are benches and pots with plants along the way. There were many people and families on the bridge and just enough to make it pleasant. We highly recommend this attraction.

There are some nice shops close by and the views are great. It didn't seem necessary to walk from one side to the other to enjoy the bridge, but it is certainly a nice walk either way. Nice way to get a good view of the city.

Park in the cheap ($.50/30 min) paid parking spots, grab lunch, go for a stroll and get some ice cream afterwards. Wonderful for kids since there is plenty of space to roam about.

Easy walk on this bridge. We stopped at the other side to ride on the carousel. Lots of shops and places to walk to.

We walked to the Walnut Street bridge from downtown Chattanooga. It was an easy walk with perfect weather. The bridge is elevated of the Riverwalk. If you want the Riverwalk, you have quite a few steps up and down to manage.

I recommend this bridge to anyone who’s interested in taking in the sights of Northshore Chattanooga! It’s so pretty, and a great photo op spot!

If you like outdoors, enjoy nice views, fresh breezes, forward motion and are willing to risk being hit by a passing bike, then this is a great walking/riding bridge for you. All ages, shapes and sizes can be seen traveling in two directions across this quaint and safe walkway across the Tennessee River. No admission fee. No commercialization (with occassional exceptions). No motorized vehicles. Just a fun and scenic walk.

was at a conference that utilized bridges as a venue. very impressive filled with historical context

I herd stories all my life how my pawpa helped div to fix it and it was saved instead of it being destroyed. It is now a beautiful walking bridge and will forever be in my family history and memories

After a long car trip, it was so great to stretch our legs with a walk on the Walnut Street Bridge. I had been here before and enjoyed the whole scene where you can get exercise and do some people watching. There are shops over on the Northside, including a lovely bookstore with used and new offerings.

I recently visited Chattanooga with my wife and stayed at the Edwin which is located at the top of the walnut street Bridge.
It is a beautiful view and affords an opportunity for some amazing pictures.
It is a perfect place for a walk or run and we did both.
Great treat if you are staying in the area.

We understood that this is the worlds longest pedestrian bridge. I'm not sure of the accuracy of that, but I will say that it is a nice walk. Clean and safe from any traffic. No shade, so take that into consideration and bring some water if it is a hot day.

Walked from the park with carousel and then took a stroll on the bridge. Nice views. Good experience. Worth the experience.

We liked so much we walked it twice. The second time was to buy ice cream from Clumpies. (Make a left off the bridge down about a block) The views are great. The walk round trip is approximately 1 mile.

What a cute little walking bridge. It was a cool sunrise morning in Chattanooga. To and from the bridge took some great pictures great place.

Finally made it across the pedestrian bridge this visit to town. It was a nice walk with a pretty view.

Visited during the Christmas Holidays. Our visit to the Bridge was on Christmas Eve. Great sunny weather and a nice scenery! Not too far from our Hotel so we were able to walk. Enjoyed being out and abour!

Beautiful bridge, beautiful view, great connector and nice walk! Have been here many times! Also, a great place for pictures.

Nice place to take a stroll with the family. Very nice views.Finding a place to park can be difficult

This is an historically significant pedestrian bridge that that connects downtown with the north shore. It was constructed in 1891 and is said to be the first non-military bridge to span the Tennessee River.
It offers great views of the city, the river, and Coolidge Park

A very nice leisurely walk to cross the river and shop on the other side. It's a pedestrian and bike bridge. Very Safe!

Great views in the morning or sunset. Once you're done walking the bridge you can get yourself some ice cream on the south end of the bridge. On the north end you'll find a bunch of little shops and places. Took the girls to some Kung Fu Tea and then went across the street the donut place. Nice relaxing walk with beautiful views.

This is a great place to steal away and just talk a walk and hold hands! Walkable from the Aquarium.

It would be this one because it is not only a destination but beginning and end in middle the views are fantastic they must see.

Our favorite place in Chattanooga! Loved walking the bridge while exploring the city. Views are beautiful, lots of benches to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet.

We walk the bridge, great views of Tennessee river. Walked to park on other side about a mile and half walk. Walking back great view of the museum. Have fun

We have walked this bridge many times and attended events here, beautiful views, safe and enjoyable.

Nice easy walk with a nice view. Watch for dog droppings allowed by ignorant dog owners. Not more to say, after all, it is just a bridge.

Great view of Tennessee River and Coolidge Park, downtown as well. Loved the laid back atmosphere while walking across this bridge. Is also a good location for taking photos.

Sunday morning walk across the bridge, plenty of seats if you need a rest or just to admire the views. A pleasant walk to help with your 10k steps

This is always a special treat to walk and gaze out at the river. It seems every time I visit this bridge, I find something new to enjoy. This time was an ice shop right before we started our walk.

Even on a hot day there was enough of a breeze for joggers, walkers and dog walkers. The posters describing the bridge's history need to be refreshed and reprinted in bigger fonts. Spectacular views and outstanding location near to many good budget spots for sightseeing (TN Aquarium, Hunter American Art Museum, Bluff Art District), and eating and leisurely activities (Coolidge Park). Take the free CARTA Electric Shuttle to save on parking.

A beautiful old bridge, which spans the Tennessee River. An enjoyable pedestrian bridge with cool views. Accessible from downtown or the north shore. Good luck with parking!

The pedestrian Bridge connects the Riverfront to the Northside. It's a fun walk and the views are great!

It's a really lovely pedestrian bridge for a nice walk across the river. You can walk over this bridge, visit the North Shore, and then take the free electric shuttle back over the market street bridge (during shuttle hours).

Went for a hike over the bridge from downtown and then on the pathways on the other side. Great pedestrian (or runner) city! So much to see. I went up by the Hunter museum and enjoyed the many outdoor sculptures.

We are locals and walk the bridge frequently in nice weather. There’s lots of parking on the downtown side of the bridge. From there you can walk the bridge and easily see Coolidge Park and Frazier Avenue.

Took a walk over the Walnut Bridge while visiting Chattanooga. Lots of people, walkers, bikers and dog friendly. Very beautiful scenery while walking along the bridge and surrounding area. Worth the stop.

We LOVE taking visitors to the "walking bridge" ! Gorgeous views of the river and a great place to enjoy our beautiful weather. We always top it off with a scoop of ice cream at Clumpies!

A nice walk across the river in both directions. Plenty to see and do within a few steps of the bridge.

A sunny stroll on the wooden floorboards of this scenic bridge makes you aware of the role of water, specifically the Tenessee River, in this pleasant southern town. You can see the art museum on the bluff and go from old historic to new and modern--including the glass peaks of the acquarium on the other bank. An excellent walk.

We had a nice walk in the evening across the bridge. It’s well lit and we felt safe. Each side has places to walk for food and shopping. I’d make sure to visit if you’re in the area and the weather is nice.

The day we went to see the Tennessee River it was rainy and the only traffic on the river was a lot of kayaks getting set for a race sponsored by Clif energy bars. Would have liked to see the bridge open up but it didn’t happen

Very pretty bridge which is in sharpe contrast to its horrific past and its use for lynching. I had no idea of this until we visited and read about it. There is an area telling the story of the bridge as well as a sculpture.
Well worth visiting for the history. We found benches to sit on along the way to break the journey up.

Oh what a joy it was to walk this bridge ! It was definitely a sight to see as well as we actually took the time to walk the actual bridge .
Once we arrived to the top of the bridge to walk across it was like a breathe of fresh air seeing all the different types of people walking the bridge from couples , single folk, families with kids racing along the bridge . If you're in the area I say definitely not just stop to sight see but actually walk the bridge I promise you you won't regret it .

Cool bridge to walk on and see some amazing views. A bit disappointed at the dog poop that was tracked all over it. People should be ashamed of themselves for not picking it up. It was also a bit slippery because it has been raining for days!!!!

This is a nice walk with good views of the river and the city. I started by the art museum and walked across to cute shops and restaurants.

Girls had a great time taking photos and walking this bridge. Very clean and well kept. We go some amazing views and photos.

Very relaxing and somber place to go and hang out with your family. Also a place where you magically bump into friends who you haven't seen in awhile.

It is a simply wonderful bridge that is kept in excellent shape, Lovely walk and local artists preforming. And a great ice cream shop just off the end!

Beautiful, well kept, and useful. What a great idea! I had visited several times since 2009 and can't get enough of the area. The bridge is cool!

I can’t say I have ever been on a bridge that was as nice of a walk as this bridge. It allowed for biking, sitting, strolling, jogging, viewing, and talking. It was a long bridge, so in the summer months take water or go early or later in the evening. A very beautiful walk.

We parked at Coolidge Park, rode the carousel for $1 then walked across the bridge. Great views. Nice way to get from Coolidge Park to Chattanooga.

For a 9-year-old to say that this was of interest meant that this was something we were definitely going to do. We were glad we did it, too!
The bridge is located right in the middle of town. Uphill is the art district, while downhill (where the parking is), are the restaurants and aquarium. After eating, we climbed (and I mean, CLIMBED) up a block to the foot of the bridge. There is a small plaza with various shops, one of which was an ice cream parlor that we were happy to visit on our way back.
From the plaza, it's a very enjoyable walk. One has the option of walking on the sidewalks, or down the very wide walkway, which is made of planks. The sidewalks have seating quite often, as well as planters for decoration, however, most places to sit were occupied with either tourists or the homeless. It's maybe a 20-minute walk to the other side, but we turned back before going all the way. The views are incredible, but definitely not for anyone with a fear of heights. I would recommend going, just to say you did it, but I would do it when the weather is much cooler. There wasn't much of a breeze, despite it being over water.

Great place to walk. Scenery is beautiful. We visited this bridge while visiting Chattanooga. It’s specifically a pedestrian bridge so it makes it easy to enjoy the scenery of the Tennessee River without the car traffic. It has some nice little benches if you get tired of walking.

I love walking here. Its beautiful and reminds me of years past riding over it with my grandparents.

Very nice place to visit as it has a beautiful view from above the bridge. And around there are several cafes and bars to visit

This bridge looks very old/historic. Love the views of the river and access to Coolidge Park on the other side of downtown. It has character and often street musicians playing. Worth a scenic walk down the riverfront and bridge.

I love that Chattanooga has chosen to keep this landmark and use it as a pedestrian bridge. Way to go, Chattanooga!

Passing through Chattanooga and stopped to check out this gorgeous landmark. We walked across and visited a couple of shops and the park with a 100+ year old wood-carved carousel. We had a couple of Marine recruits with us and they worked in some PT at different intervals crossing back over the bridge. A great place to enjoy riding bikes and physical activity. We observed waterfront yoga from the side, a lovely peaceful place.

I grew up in Chattanooga, so I remember this bridge from my childhood. When they done a total makeover of it, refurbished it back to being as original as possible. Then, made it into a walking bridge. I was delighted. I have moved away from Chattanooga but visit as often as possible and am moving back after being gone many years. Every time, I visit. A walk across this bridge is a must. The scenery is beautiful. There is everything g to see from the small island in the middle of the river to the cool buildings such as the Aquarium to see as you're walking across it. Being able to walk peacefully or take a seat on one of the furnished benches they have provided and just relax while watching the sunsets, is just amazing. Also, the aromas from coffee & tea shops to the different restaurants that are around, is divine. Having a walking area to get from one side of town, and back. Makes it so convenient. If you haven't ever walked across this bridge. Do so! Have a seat and relax. You'll be happy you did.

This is a great walking, bike riding, etc. bridge. I definitely recommend this to do if you are visiting Chatanooga. Beautiful views as you’re walking on the bridge. Close to lots of other things to see & do in the area.

This was unplanned but completely enjoyable! It was a very nice walk on a beautiful late afternoon. The view was beautiful. We heard a man (Libertarian) loudly lecturing a tiny crowd over to the right in the park that was something we were trying to get away from since that's all you hear lately. We did not let that put a damper on our day though.

We enjoyed our walk and view from the bridge. Lots of people were out and enjoying the fresh air. There are places to eat easily accessible by foot. Music can be heard from the sidewalk artists. It is a bit strenuous if you have difficult walking, but can do so with assistance. Excellent exercise and fun to see the families and people with pets as well.

Nice place to walk and see the river from the pedestrian only bridge. I liked it better than the riverwalk.

The Walnut Street Bridge is nice to walk across and take some pictures day and night. Catch it at the right time and you may be able to strike a pose with no one in the background.

Tourists and locals alike enjoy this walking bridge in downtown Chattanooga connecting the busy downtown to the Northshore parks and shopping. Beautiful views of the river and mountains.

We walked over the bridge to the North side. It sure is long! There was a bridge that we crossed over a river in our home town when we were growing up so this brought back memories. We stopped for ice cream. As we started back over the bridge, we realized a storm was approaching. We should have stayed on the North side. But when can you say you were on the Walnut Street Bridge during a storm? It poured. It hailed. The wind was wicked. I screamed. LOL. I really enjoyed it. My shoes and purse—not so much! The views are awesome. Definitely no shelter on there though.

Great walk with the family across the bridge connecting the Bluff City art district and the North Shore.

I always enjoy visiting my Hometown. I've been gone over 50 yrs. and it's always a treat to return to see what is new and what progress the city has made. I love it!! You are never bored when visiting Chattanooga. I used to walk the Walnut St. Bridge when I was in high scool to get home, from school.. It was dangerous then, but now, it is one of my favorite things to do, anytime, day or night. Hoping everyone will enjoy visiting this most progressive City. I'm always reccommending it, as a great place to have an adventureous trip. So much to do and to see! GO, Enjoy!!

This is a lot of fun !! Parking is near by, with a charge of course ..lol.. My daughter and i really enjoyed it.. I would suggest going in the early morning, or late afternoon. It's alot of walking and with the heat, not a good mix. bring your gatoraid for sure !

Take the walk across the bridge. There are many opportunities to stop and read the history and many memorial plaques on the way. On the other side there are nice shops that are worth walking thru.

If you ever visit Chattanooga, you must walk across the Walnut Street Bridge! It's awesome and historic!

Loved it! Interesting history. Bring your bicycles and ride across this famous bridge! Not very crowded but just enough people that you can enjoy yourself!!!

How cool is this! This bridge built 100 years + ago is converted to a pedestrian walking bridge over the Tennessee River. There are benches located at several points along the bridge and side walks on each side of the bridge if one chooses to walk close to the edge. Walking in the old road way part of the bridge is allowed. You see all demographics of America walking the bridge. The is an ice cream shop at the city entrance of the bridge and unique retail shops to see once on gets to the north side. I recommend doing this as there are few places in the USA that offer this kind of attraction. Free parking on a busy weekend can be hard to find.

My wife , her Mother - aka - my Mother in-law and I had a really cool experience but my Mother in-law said it was awesome. We were there while the Rowing regatta was going on and you could feel the excitement and the yelling of support for the various rowing teams
as they passed under the bridges.
The views from the bridge were breath taking of the river and the surrounding areas.
We enjoyed the whole experience.

Great pedestrian bridge to take it all the views of downtown Chattanooga. One side of the bridge is near Northshore, which is going through a great revitalization process with fun restaurants and quirky shops, and the other takes your right into downtown Chattanooga near the aquarium and lots of other fun activities. There’s a fun ice cream shop on the downtown side to get a cool treat after walking the city as well. Beautiful views and a fun walk; best of all it’s dog friendly!

Our walk across this bridge was on a beautiful day with mild temperatures and many others walking and running on the bridge. What an excellent way to see the river than at a slow walking pace and stopping to visit or snap a photo. Glad Chattanooga has this as it is a neat thing to do.

It was beautiful. A great place to just sit and relax. I loved the walk on the bridge. You can see for miles and miles. It was so peaceful just looking out from on it.

What a great old bridge that’s the oldest bridge in Chattanooga! It is used by those walking and running, singles/couples/families, dog walkers and sightseers. Everyone we passed smiled, spoke or waved. It was a beautiful place for a morning walk.

Love the slow pace and great view. A must do if you’re in Chattanooga. We went after seeing the art museum and really enjoyed it.

We hope that authorities whose job it is to inspect bridges are doing their job well. As the bridge is aeging. We had nice walk.

This event has been going on for a long time, probably time to hang it up. Gotten too expensive and poor selection wines.

Great experience on a purely pedestrian bridge. Great views. Not a short walk, but not bad by any means.

We enjoyed walking on and enjoying the view from the pedestrian bridge. We walked about midway and sat on the benches. People were also riding bikes on the bridge. From the bridge, we could see all the various activities people were doing in the park. We didn't go all the way to the downtown side. The experience was enjoyable and was good exercise. It's neat to have a place like this to walk in Chattanooga without worrying about traffic.

We didn't walk all the way across it started to rain but the views are beautiful. There are benches to sit and enjoy the breeze and views.

The Walnut Street Bridge is a fun little side excursion if you are in the area. They've done a nice job restoring this bridge and it is fun to walk across and view the river / town.
The area under the overpass under the Walnut Street Bridge is a true eye-sore as it appears to be a homeless camp. They left us alone as we walk through though.

I took my daughter to Chattanooga to celebrate her 10th birthday. The bridge is a fun thing to do. It doesn’t seem very handicap friendly as all the ramps are long and up hill.

We liked the "walking" bridge and we're thinking it'd be nice to walk it in the summer! Lots of people out, just enjoying the stroll, scenery, pet walking, bicycling and street performances.

A long walk across the bridge but we mainly walked across because we parked by Coolidge Park and went to the aquarium. Wish there was some history about the bridge on the walk over.

It was a nice evening walk in the evening. Many people began to come over the bridge as the sun went down. It is a nice relaxing stroll with your spouse or friends. However, it ended abruptly as if it was not complete at the end. Construction equipment or closed off, incomplete.

The bridge was located next to a park and a parking area with reasonable prices, $6 for more than 2 hours. There were also museums, restaurants, and stores nearby. It is a good walk for a nice day. There are great views of the mountains on the west side of the bridge. You can ride your bike or rent one too.

Great place to start your day or evening walk. Wonderful Sunsets. Always something going on in the water.

We took the free shuttle to the "other side" as we were told by the bus driver that it's a much easier walk..the bridge is about 1/2 mile long..with lots of benches along the way...

We walked the bridge on a Sunday evening. It was absolutely lovely, and the children had a great time. It was a little crowded but a very pleasant experience. Highly recommend!

Was lucky enough to stay at the Edwin and walked this beautiful pedestrian bridge every morning. We explored to the right and to the left each day. It is immaculate and great exercise.

Very pleasant walk across the river. Right at on end of the bridge is a small German restaurant with a nice view and cold beer that I would definitely stop by again.

We squeezed this in after arriving in Chattanooga early and I am so glad we did. The sunset was amazing and the history of the bridge interesting. There are museums, greenspaces and waterfront around. Take the family out - it’s beautiful.

Rode bikes across the bridge, stopping in the middle to take pictures. Great local shops on the Northshore side, and a great opportunity to explore Coolidge Park. Bought snowcones from a food truck after crossing. Unique and free experience.

The skyline, mountains, and waterways all combine to create a perfect background. The bridge is wide enough so couples/young children/the elderly can go their own pace while runners and cyclists still have access and clearance. While the bridge is wooden, it is accessible for injured, disabled, or young children/strollers.
DID I MENTION it is FREE!!!
The shopping on the side opposite the aquarium is FANTASTIC if you *aren't* looking for Anthropologie-esque shopping.
There are souvenir shops, record stores, salons, restaurants, paint shops, art galleries, and other random shops that are charming and make for good conversation, even if you aren't looking to purchase items.

If you're looking for an easy walk and beautiful views, Walnut Street Bridge is the place for you. I can't emphasize enough the beautiful views... on each side! On either end of this bridge you are surrounded by local cuisine and tons of shops, so come hungry, or ready to explore!

We enjoyed our mid-morning stroll on this beautiful old bridge. Wonderful vantage point to see boaters on the river. We took some great photos from the bridge. Quite convenient to the Downtown Chattanooga shops and restaurants. Tough to find close parking spots close to the bridge.

The kids loved this easy walk and took lots of picture on the bridge and of the river. The parking lot could use signage, but we figured it out. The fountains are closed because of COVID.

Definitely something to put on ur list while in town. Entrance from Coolidge park then enjoy a walk they the park. Take a blanket and relax along the river with a picnic lunch afterwards

Nice views of the Tennessee River, so nice not to have cars wizzing by. You can rent the bikes and ride over to the park and the riverfront shops and restaurants.

Such a beautiful location, pedestrian bridge. Amazing spots for pictures and a nice walk. Several places for you to sit down, relax and watch the river.

Historic bridge preserved for the pedestrians. What a great city plan to recycle and reuse and help keep people healthy and safe.
1 out of every 3 pedestrians we watched were walking a dog. This is a must stop on a trip to the city.
Beautiful at night as well

Daughter suggested that we go walking after supper and Walnut Street Bridge was one of the destinations. The evening weather was cooler and pleasant, the views were great, and happy children were running on the bridge under their parents' watchful eyes. Nice inexpensive evening entertainment. Wish we had a pedestrian bridge like this in Knoxville --
Great place for a scenic walk
Very nice gathering spot. Not much to do other than an ice cream shop and the gorgeous walk, but a great spot.
