We had planned to snowshoe, but stumbled into a bird walk with a delightful ranger armed with scope and tripod so that we could observe different distant water fowl. We also encountered a bald eagle that we were able to observe at our leisure. Our group included a mother with a 7 month old (who slept through it all) and, I'm guessing, a 5 year old.

Great visit absolutely recommend for hikes. Most doable for even novice. Some trails could be wchr accessible

The first time I went to Freeport, I was (rightfully) in awe of the LL Bean flagship store and its spectacular specialty shops. The next time, I took time to do a little outlet shopping. This trip, I brought my Bean boots and headed for the coast. Wolfe’s Neck Woods is only a few minutes from downtown Freeport, but it feels like a different world.
I found a map of the park’s hiking trails online, but I didn’t really need it. After paying our fee at the gate ($4/person, honor code applies), we parked in the first open parking lot. It’s still off season, and risky/muddy areas were closed off. We headed out on the Casco Bay Trail to the shore. The boots were a necessity, as the path was showing the effects of recent snow/rain. There were some spots that sank a bit under our feet, but it was definitely safe and clear to walk on. The hike to the shore was only a few minutes. I’m out of shape with bad knees and still found it very easy.
Once we got to the shore, we explored the tide pools and looked for osprey. The view over the water was spectacular. I wish I’d brought a warm drink and a blanket. I could have parked on one of the large rocks for hours, soaking in that view. Next time, we’ll explore the shore in the other direction, but I’m so glad that we started with the tide pools.

Some of the best water views of the Casco Bay!
Such a clean, cared-for park. I love coming here and just walking around admiring the coast.

It runs all the way down to the water. You can sit on the rocks and watch the sea! The paths throughout the park are well kept. A great place to spend some time!

It's was a pleasant surprise to find this rustic park. Bathrooms were basic, but, at least, not outhouses. Wide trails through woods and along the water with a couple of staircases to go down to the water. Bring bug spray. Parking in the shade. Picnic tables.

We went after a heavy snow, and the park was magical! Great trails right along the shore. Wonderful morning in the Maine woods.

Wolf Neck! What a little gem. Literally just a few miles from LL Bean. We love this place because our whole family can go and enjoy a walk in the woods, by the ocean. Because someone in our family is disabled and can't really do a "hike", this gives the same feel without the difficulty. There are bathrooms in the summer along with picnic areas. If you want to bring a blanket there is also a grassy area to sit to eat as well.
We recently enjoyed snow shoeing the trails while looking for animal tracks...super fun! There are wooden steps to get down to the water or beach areas, which you can look for shells or sea glass. Also right beyond on of the beaches is a small island that is protected because of the osprey nesting there. Wait to you see how huge there nest is! Take the kids and grandparents.....

Went here recently and hiked around the trails through the woods and back along the ocean. Saw two osprey gliding in the wind right offshore next to their protected island habitat. There are lots of trails to choose from and some closer ones are suitable for wheelchairs it appeared. Signage was excellent. I hate getting lost! Parking is ample and trails were well maintained. Love this park.

We enjoyed walking the trails, and down on the rocks by the water. This was a nice surprise so close to Freeport! Enjoyed lunch at the farm cafe. Nice for families with kids to explore the farm and farm animals.

Well marked, well maintained trails. The best part is smelling the cool air of the forest mixed with the sea smells of Casco Bay. Locals go clamming here. Dog friendly, many happy puppies playing in the water.

the park offers grills and picnic tables for BBQs, many trails that are well marked. Get there early since you have to pay and the park closes at 8pm during the summer month.

This is a great (and easy) trail to walk, observe wildlife and simply indulge in the beauty of the ocean. Informative signs throughout the way teach you about the fauna and flora of the area, which only adds to the enjoyment!

My husband and I loved hiking around Wolfe's Neck. A short drive from the heart of Freeport, there are beautiful views and great trails. Will def return on our next trip.

Wolfe's Neck is a great walk for all. We walked along the Casco Bay Trail, which you gave your great views along the water and very nice breeze. Be on the look out for the Osprey's which you can see from the Bay area. There are also several wooded trails, so make sure you are dressed right and have the right walking shoes. Some trails are easier than others. Wear plenty of bug spray with deet for ticks and mosquitos. Also, watch out for spiders as there were plenty everywhere in the wooded area.
Make sure to take water and a camera with you, will want to take pictures.
The park is well kept and the restroom areas are cleaned regularly. People are friendly and it's very short drive from the Freeport shopping area. Worth the time to enjoy nature.

This is a fee area, so bring some cash to either pay the attendant or put into the self pay system. This park is a mix of forest and shoreline trails along a bay bear Freeport, Maine. While it is small, it does offer some quality solitude and decent birdwatching in the summer. Fall will bring lovely colors to contrast the shoreline of the bay.
The Trails are pleasant walks with no elevation gain.

A must do while in Freeport. You could easily do all trails in 1/2 day. The various loops can be portioned off into 1 mile, more or less - all depending on how far you want to go. And, both beautiful coastal and wooded scenery. There are even steps at various points taking you down to the water. The tide was out so we could explore a bit. Everything was well marked. All in all, this was a huge highlight of our trip! I would say it's an easy hike for active people. There were a few inclines, but nothing terrible. Outside of that, just a lot of tree roots to watch your step over. Enjoy!

We got to the park right when it opened and spent about 90 minutes on the trails along the shore and through the woods. Trails were well maintained and marked. When we left the parking lot was getting full and there were more people on the trail. If you want it with less crowds, go early.

Wolfe neck Woods is a beautiful peninsula of woods and rocky coastline, with many lovely, well-maintained walking trails. it's great for easy hikes, sitting on rocks and gazing at the ocean, having a picnic, and watching the resident osprey on a small island 40 feet away. Two or three times a year i visit, as it is so peaceful and pretty.

Great views and access to waters edge - short hike for those that may not be in hiking shape, but want to experience the beauty of Maines coastline. We walked off our breakfast and hated to leave.

Compact with lots to see. Nice trails with easy walking for all ages. Worth the small entrance fee. The views are stunning from certain areas.

Fun family (and easy) hike for the family! Trails are close to the water for scenic views. Close to the Haraseeket Inn (for amazing lobster rolls) for a nice lunch after hiking.

My son and I loved Wolfe's Neck Wood State Park and only got lost once. There are so many places for beautiful views of both the rocky Maine coast and the river. Not too crowded and the mushrooms and ferns made for interesting scenery.

This is definitely worth a visit. It's a gorgeous drive to get there. Friendly ranger. Easy parking and restrooms. The hikes are short and extremely well marked, but there are maps too. We took a few trails and spent about an hour on the beach, exploring and climbing on the rocks.

So just to be clear this is not a swimming spot! This is very nice if you'd like a short hike that takes you to the ocean. Its gorgeous to sit on the rocks and watch the waves come in and a good spot for bird-watching too if thats your thing. I agree with others that they are totally over-charging for this, especially for out of state visitors.

Haven't been here this year yet but have gone there over many past Summers. Hiking, biking trails through the woods and along the coastline make a 1/2 day adventure.

You can't ask for a better relaxing hike through a park than Wolfe's Neck Woods. It's so well maintained, and the whole place is just beautiful. You can go down on the rocks by the water, or climb up on different trails, there's something for everyone here. They have guided tours during normal times, which are great, but this visit was during COVID and they were suspended, and sorely missed.

Beautiful area with lots to do: hiking trails, animals, bike riding, kayaking and camping. Stay a day or a week!

The is a great place for a casual walk and family fun. The views are breath taking, but walk doesn't have to be!

We enjoyed the trails, had hoped for more beach but it’s mostly rocky and mud. Saying that we are glad we visited as it was on our bucket list and we enjoyed our time there,

A lovely place for a magical hike with water views galore. Not too well traveled so lovely quiet and contemplative. Pure Maine and very near LL Bean and all the Freeport attractions. Buy a picnic lunch and take it over here for a treat away from the bustling frenzy of the Freeport outlets.
RedShoeLiving

Beautiful footpaths with several water front spots to stop by as well as some deep woods trails to hike along. We just hiked through but it would be the perfect place for a picnic lunch!

Enjoyed a beautiful day picnicking and beach combing during low tide. Definite stop when in Freeport.

Such a well maintained set of hiking trails that have a few places to walk down to the ocean. The park ranger we met near Osprey Island shared lots of information with us and was very friendly. Many distances to choose from, mostly flat and relatively easy hiking.

Beautiful area of the Maine coast, with lots of natural wildlife to observe. The waters were calm on our visit, but was just a bit too chilly to bring out the kayaks for our taste.

This little state park as several nice paths that take you along and to the edge of the ocean. depending on the tide you can walk on the sand or explore the tidal pools. This is close to Freeport so you won't be alone always but there is plenty of room.

Wolfe's Neck is a great daytime excursion for visitors & locals. Pooches are allowed (watch for ticks!) and the trails are all easy & pretty with a combination of wooded areas & broad coastal views speckled with tiny islands & tall pines housing osprey & other seabirds. Tiny rocky beaches & coves allow for wading, a brief dip in icy Maine water & exploration of weeny tidal pools with hermit crabs. There are facilities, fields, picnic tables and trails. Again, it is wooded so be prepared for some bug action (mosquitos, ticks, flies etc). Anyone with balance issues should be cautious as there are many exposed roots and uneven terrain. Very doable trails for most everyone. The park does require either a Maine State park pass or pay the per visit fee. The location is ideally close to downtown Freeport restaurants, hotels & shopping. It's a short and picturesque drive just outside of downtown Freeport. Great post lunch add on.

We visited yesterday with our dog and two small children. It's so beautiful there, and there are trails for all abilities, and bathrooms for the little ones. We stayed in the woods this time, but you can access the ocean no problem, and one trail is good for strollers and wheelchairs. I used to hike here with my dog when I was single, and we took a much longer hike to tire her out, so there are definitely options for everyone.

Grass on site was over grown and picnic table unusable. My husband called the office and a new picnic table was delivered and grass was cut. Lots of farm animals and beautiful Casco Bay. Close to Freeport shopping , restaurants and brew pub’s. Would definitely camp here again.

This was a beautiful park with lots of well maintained trails. They were not difficult to hike. The view of the bay was amazing.

Looking for a walk that meanders between woods and the shore... this is such easy access. Plenty of parking, no crowds, clear pathways, great views of Casco Bay. Terrain is suitable for all abilities.

I absolutely love this state park! I was surprised by the amount of trails and the scenery! We were lucky to have seen some ospreys and the ocean was just amazing. I was happy to see that they also maintain snow shoeing trails for during the winter.

Well organized park with elaborate signage and illustrated maps,One can gather some outstanding views from the trails.

the campground is very poorly managed. At 5;00 no one was there for checkin. no signage about registering on line. And super high prices. $65 plus tax for a no services site.

This is a state park with great walking trails and views of the ocean. you can walk as little or as much as you'd like. We wish we had planned more time. You do have to pay per person for entry

We visited the park upon the recommendation of the innkeeper at James Place Inn. What a great experience. We visited at 6 PM in the evening and took the short hike to the osprey nest viewing area. The fledglings were getting quite large. We were also there the following day to see their first flight. We found the staff very helpful and informative and the site and grounds clean.

A great stop with paths for hearty hikers and fully accessible paths for those in wheelchairs, young hikers and jogging strollers.A short walk from the parking lot brings you to the rocky shoreline where the views are breathtaking. Garrett our park guide gave us a great tour pointing out osprey nests and even a seal. There are also plenty of stations with information for self-guided tours.

Beautiful views & great place to hike. Several different trails. There is a small fee for residents & non-residents. On the weekends, no one is at the gate so you leave your fee in a green receptacle. Lots of benches & a picnic site if you'd like to bring lunch. Park is open from 9-6.

Go when the ranger is giving a guided walk. He's got a telescope and will show you the osprey nest and the sunbathing seals. There are half mile walks, and longer ones. Easy to spend 1-4 hours in the woods just a short drive out of Freeport.
(on the way to or from, get provisions at Bow Street market.)

Loved the short walk from the parking lot to the beach, where we watched nesting ospreys and explored the tide pools.

A small park (no camping) to have a picnic. There are several walking trails and picnic benches in shady areas. Most of the trails are next to the ocean. They have running water and clean restrooms. There is a charge to enter in season, but no charge in the fall when we have visited. Plenty of parking.

We visited on a gloriously sunny day in August and spent much of the time sitting on the rocks at the waters edge watching the Ospreys. Got lots of great photos. Such a picturesque and peaceful park to spend a couple of hours and very easy to walk around. . So happy that we visited.

We spent part of a morning hiking the easiest trail, which is dog friendly. Lots of folks out enjoying the park despite (or maybe because of) the cool cloudy weather. Picnic tables are easily accessible. Scenery was lovely. Lots of other trails, with less even terrain were also available. Parking was easy and rest rooms were available.

Nice short hike with some amazing views of the islands, an osprey nest and more lady slippers than I've ever seen.

We decided to stop at this State Park while were on our way to Portland. It was tucked away and somewhat secluded. The views were spectacular. The park is well maintained with nice walking trails to the water.

While staying in Freeport on vacation we found this small State Park. It was so beautiful and peaceful that we went there twice in just 4 days. The views are wonderful with access right down to the water. There are several trails through the surrounding forest that offer short yet excellent hikes. There is also a picturesque grassed picnic area.

We stopped at one of the trails on a hot summer's day and it was really nice. There was no one else there at the White Pines Trail and the scent of pine needles was amazing. It was nice and shady as we walked through the pines, and the trail surface was packed dirt - great for someone like me in a motorized wheelchair/scooter. Along the way, there are views of Casco Bay. There are also restrooms and dedicated picnic tables for those with disabilities. Definitely worth a visit.

We drove in and saw the charge but since no one was at the gate just drove in and out. There was so much fog and rain it was impossible to see anything, what a disappointment. It might be nice on a clear day but there are other places to explore without a charge.

Most of the trails are great for a leisurely walk - not too strenuous, and not too much climbing. There are some lovely views of Casco Bay and the islands from the shore - there are well-maintained stairs down to the water from the walking trails.

Scenic, full of life, lots a mini trails down to the water's edge. We had a gorgeous day so I may be a little biased but this was a true gem of a park.

Beautiful park, and landscape. God is showing his glory here.
Peaceful. Just plain great and relaxing.

Nice easy park suitable for families with small kids, well groomed paths and picinic spots with tables etc. One of our favorite day trips any time of year.

A beautiful and peaceful spot with easy walks along the shoreline of Casco Bay, a few minutes from Freeport. Great for all ages, and with special wheelchair-accessible paths and facilities.

We stopped here on a road trip and so glad we did. The views are amazing and we really enjoyed the trails.

Walking trails near the water and through the woods. Little to do other than walk around as the barn was not open for visitors.

We enjoyed walking in this park. It was incredibly clean, in fact portions of the trails were raked. Very scenic and we met a nice female ranger who worked there. She was clearly committed to making the park experience a nice one for visitors.

Now that the season is over the guard shack is closed and it is free to walk your dog on a sunny afternoon in the crisp fall/winter weather. The scenery is beyond words and everyone there seems to be a dog lover so no issues what-so-ever! Breathtaking views of Casco Bay and a sunrise well worth getting up early for! Remember to bring your own poo bag.

After a terrible day of shopping the day before, we decided some nature was needed and sure enough it was fantastic. Fresh and beautiful. Loved walking through and just being with nature in a fresh fall morning.

The park has great views of Casco Bay and is very scenic. The trails are clearly marked and easy to follow. They are not strenuous and are dog friendly. Because it is close to the water is is cooler in summer. I highly recommend it.

This is a lovely state park just a few miles from Freeport. The park ranger will give you a trail map. The trails are well tended, although some are filled with roots, but easy to maneuver over and around. There are stepping stones in some places on the trail for steps, which are nice. Walking along the water, and listening to the birds make a very peaceful hike. Picnic tables are available. No overnights.

Do not miss this stop on your way down east! Such a beautiful stop to your vacation. Spend 8 days traveling Maine in all directions and I must admit that this first stop really was a high light of the trip!

Kids very entertained. They walked trails climbed rocks (and fell in water) ranger activities like osprey watching. Spent several hours here. Nice price for seniors even if you are not from Maine

Come here to enjoy beautiful view, especially during a fall sunset in October. The park also offers unique rocky beach good for walking, parking, even restrooms.

Although the park is closed, you can park on the road and walk in. We did a loop with beautiful views, but did not explore all of the trails. There were a fair amount of people and everyone was in friendly moods. It was nice to get outdoors!!

A small park but with very lovely little hiking paths down to the water and some decent beachfront - but not the kind you are going to go sunbathing on. Lots of driftwood and shells, but no real mud flats. It's a nice leisurely place to visit.

A local friend suggested that we visit Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park, and we were so glad, because it turned out to be the highlight of our trip to Maine.
The Park was only 10 minutes drive from our hotel. The trails were clean and the views gorgeous. The hike was moderate - - not too easy, but just right for people of moderate fitness. We arrived at 9 a.m. (park opening time) and basically had the trails to ourselves. If you like the outdoors, and are going to visit LLBean, definitely include this park in your trip itinerary.

Went here a couple of times while staying in Maine on vacation. Great views of the water, able to go out on the rocks and get beautiful pictures. Got great sightings of Osprey.

Camping with friends for a weekend. The bathrooms were clean. Plenty to do. Ice cream shop offered great choices. Worth the trip. Will be going back next year for sure.

Nice place to get away from the frenzy of downtown Freeport and take a hike in the woods or along the shore. Wear your hiking boots of sturdy shoes if you venture off the main paths. THe short path to the rocks is great for kids - if the tide is right, they can explore the tidal pools.

I was surprised when there was a fee to get into this park but it was well worth it! Great small park with quick pathways to interesting views of salt marshes and open water! Kids enjoyed low tide tidal pools and interesting shells. It was raining slightly but we all had fun! Don't miss the osprey nest on the island!

A lovely park with lots of walking trails that take you to the water. For out of state visitors, it costs $6 per person. It's an honor system where you put the money into a box when you enter the park. There is no ranger but when you park, there is a sign with the map to show you the area. There is also a box there with paper maps. Lots of shade and several access points to the water.

Wolfe's Neck State Park has a good trail system. Easy for children and those new to hiking. The views are wonderful on the ocean and the river side. Can't really get lost. Love the hike there in October.

Great novice trail walk with my little ones (8&2). The almost 3 year old had a couple trips and fall on roots, but all in all, the trail is easily navigable. They have a handicap accessible trail too. I imagine that would be pretty easy with a jogging stroller. Great picture opportunities abound. The shore is a little rocky for little ones, but what a view! Pack a picnic or go back to Freeport for lunch. It's pretty close to town. They have picnic areas everywhere!!! Note: it's about $6 for adults and $1 for kids (cash) to access the park. But well worth it, just for the pictures!

Turn at Freeport towards state park.... Follow signs. It's about 20minutes to the entrance where there's a small fee. The map they have is great and it's an easy hike with views of the ocean and islands. Well marked trails.

We were in the Freeport area for a relaxing weekend. Glad we decided to walk the trails at Wolfe’s Neck. Trail walking isn’t our thing since we live in Vermont and it’s kind of a daily thing. What made this outing fun was the trails leading back and forth from the rocky shores and sandy beaches. The views of the ocean and many islands made it fun and interesting. Definitely worth a few hours.

We went there hoping that we could take out our beach chairs and sit by the water. You had to park your car on the top of the hill and walk down dirt trails, that cut our visit short. Not easy for people that are out of shape or seniors with disabilities.

Great trails right on the water. Good for Xcountry skiing, hiking, etc...There are even Geocaches hidden on the trails.

Stopped by on our visit to Boothbay. Very nice and clean trails. Great views of the rock formations at low tide. Easy trails and steps to get down to the water. Should definitely visit here.

My wife and I have been to Freeport many times but never to Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park. So, on a beautiful October day we made our first visit and loved it. We've been to Acadia, the cliff walk in Ogunquit, and more of the same in Maine. This was a beautiful, quiet, panoramic location for a walk along the shore. The trails are well marked and the views of the bay and islands are great. A nominal fee is required but the "Walden affect" is worth the visit. We will be back.

When we visited on a weekday there weren't many other people around. A ranger took us around for a short walk on the trails. She explained the history of the park, wildlife, trees, and wildflowers. Ranger was super nice - wish I had gotten her name. Nice, clean park with picnic areas, views of the ocean, and walking trails. Day use only. Closes at sunset.

Was in area & looking for a nice easy walk to see some local colors. Park was nicely balanced with flat terrain & parts that were a bit up & down through the woods to the coast.

Beautiful location on the coast of Freeport Maine. There is a campground, store, cafe and organic farm. Dairy cows, pigs, and goats are all accessible for children to see. It was not crowded, although they have a children’s summer camp in session. It was a fun visit for a 2 year old and his parents and grandma! The cafe is made with foods sourced directly from the farm and proceeds support the farm. If you go to Freeport, take the road toward the coast and look at a little-known area of rural Freeport.

We signed up for the farm visit for our 3 year old and ended up getting a 1-on-1 tour, which was awesome. Our son got to feed the goats, visit the chicken coop and see a baby cow. Afterwards, we went on a 2 mile hike, which was super kid friendly (flat and lots of little bridges and forts along the way). We stopped at the outdoor cafe on our way out - food was really fresh.

After a week of traveling all around New England and so much time in the car, we googled "state park" while staying in Freeport. What a true gift! This state park is so well-maintained. The trails are marked well with lots of information/education along the way. It was so quiet and peaceful (early October) and a welcome in the midst of travel exhaustion. My mom has some mobility issues and she enjoyed the area of the trail that's packed and level.

Simple trail, flat and easy to walk. Glimpses of the bay all along the trail. Did not take any of the inland trails.

I spent very little time there, but it appeared to be a very interesting place with experimental farm and there was also camping available

Wolf Neck State Park near Freeport, Maine provides a great alternative to shopping for those in the family who aren’t interested in the nearby outlets. Wolf Neck offers a series of short and gentle hikes that appeal to the very young and elderly, or those just learning to enjoy walking in nature. You can string several hikes together for a good workout, or simply just go on one or two. All paths lead to the water with granite beaches and pine trees. A great place for beginning hikers. Bathroom facilities readily available.

We did the easy ocean trail and it was lovely. I didn't realize Maine had a "smell" until then. It was awesome. I will always think of Maine when I smell that balsam fir pine scent. Was heavenly. Sat out on the trail in one place and watched 2 seals fishing. Was very cool!

Came here to see a bit of the oven before we drive about
Great spot to stop with bathrooms, woods and beaches
Highly recommend

Flat, well cared for trails which are well marked. Meanders through the woods and then gives a few spots where you can get down to the boulders along the water. It is NOT a beach. Also, it costs $6 per person to come in - so be prepared to fork over some cash. There's an osprey nest you can see on an island nearby - binoculars would be helpful.
Overall, I wouldn't come back. As a state park it should be free or donation-only. You don't get much water at all - mostly a short walk in the woods. Giving it 2 stars because the trails are well kept.

When we arrived there were warnings of caterpillar hair flying around. The ranger said if our skin came in contact with it, it would be similar to poison ivy and only last a day or so and to rinse with cold water if we did come in contact! He also said if we stay close to the Bay, the breeze would be coming in from the water and less chance of the hairs being in the air. We asked if it would harm the dogs and he said NO! Only humans. We took our chances and were glad we did. We stayed on the bay side. Great path. Great view. Plenty of places to have a picnic. However, caterpillars could be on the benches and tables so i'd bring a blanket and have a picnic on the ground instead. Easy trails. A few places to duck down and go near the water. Kids were swimming around in the shallow areas. $6 entry fee per person. No military discount for out of state military unfortunately.

Gardens are lovely, campsites are nice and the animals are awesome. A good place to spend a day or a weekend.

Just beautiful and SO relaxing! We visited to have some down time, but didn’t want to do the Freeport shopping! This is an Oceanside Park- we jumped in and swam! Bring a picnic... take time. Easy hike - flat land and lots of trees. Enjoy! We will go back!

Beautiful trails in the woods along the water. Especially enjoyed seeing the osprey nest from the Casco Bay Trail. There are plenty of places to get down on the rocks and to the water. Fabulous scenery for a very low fee.

Excellent ay trip from cottage with wife and dog. My grandson would have loved the nature views. Got to see an osprey.

This park offers a small-scale immersion in the natural beauties of the Maine coast. There are several miles of trails along the rocky shore and through rich piney woods. At this time of year (mid-April to mid-May), the Osprey are nesting, and the wild flowers along the rocky woodland trails are beautiful. At several points, stairs take you down to the rocky shoreline. There is even a small beach. Off the busy tourist route, this is well worth the side trip.

This is a total must-see, with great, easy, trails and wonderful views, but we would not have heard about it just staying in Freeport, where the emphasis is on shopping, period. Wonderful way to spend a morning.

Went out here at the Mallet Barn for my cousin's wedding. It was such a unique gorgeous wedding! The area was so picturesque!!!

We enjoyed a wonderful hike through the park. The ocean trail gives great views and multiple places to get down to the water. Several nesting ospreys were quite vocal too. Lots of picnic options for anyone who wants to enjoy a longer stay. Go and enjoy your day!

Really nice trails for a leisurely stroll and some a little more challenging. The views are beautiful.

A great place that will inspire me to write my new story...
My motto :
Travel should take you places !!

Drove out here while visiting Freeport for a few hours of hiking and relaxation. Although somewhat pricey at $6 per person I found this park to be clean with very easy hiking trails. The views of the Casco Bay and rocky areas were beautiful.

What a pretty park and only spent two hours but it is an easy walk with lovely views. Lots of spots to sit an rest if needed.

Went to Wolfe's Neck Woods state park to hike the Casco trail and have a picnic. Several people were there early afternoon. The hike is easy and beautiful. Lots of opportunities to take pictures. Clean restrooms. This was a nice diversion from Freeport outlet shopping.

Beautiful location, very peaceful and serene. Nice walk through woods to lake shore which has amazing views, worth a visit

Great hike. Nice views. Well marked trails. Dog friendly. Clean. Not far from Freeport, easy to find.

Very nice trails - be sure to get a trail map after you enter - they are in a box near a large map of the park. The trails themselves could be a bit better marked so a map is most helpful. Very well groomed easy to walk trails. It costs a few dollars to get in, so come prepared to spend some time. Gorgeous views of the bay and ambiance of tall pine forest. We spent perhaps 90 minutes here -- but you could spend a lazy afternoon or day here if you packed in your lunch and used one of many picnic tables in the woods.

First time. Scenic. The unpaved road in needs to be graded. Pay on the honor system at this time of year. The dirt trails are well packed down and smooth. Handicap parking spaces and trails are marked. Plenty of picnic tables everywhere and grills. You can take stairs down to the water. Restrooms in season, clean outhouses off season. Not a bad place, but nothing really stands out. Family-friendly. Dogs on leashes present.

Stopped by to get some time at the ocean in a less crowded place. There is an entrance fee for the state park, but it was a beautiful set of trails. You are able to swim off the rocky shore.

Had a nice walk and saw some gorgeous views. Easy walking trails and good access down to the water also. Highly recommend.

Maine knows how to take advantage of tourism. They charged $6 per adult and additional fees for children just to enter and they only take cash. Whoa!! Be prepared to empty your pockets if you really want to go there or better yet spend your money elsewhere. We walked the trails and were done in 30 minutes. Some pretty areas by the water but you can find that just about anywhere in Maine for free. Certainly not worth the extremely high cost to enter, would never go back.

Wolfe's Neck State Park is a great place to come walk by the ocean. In addition to a wheelchair- and stroller-friendly path along the ocean's edge, there are others that go down to the shore and through the woods. There are picnic areas and bathrooms. Although the gate is closed during the winter, you can park at the road and walk (or snowshoe) in. Dogs are welcome on a leash and a fee is charged.

We went to this park because it was very convenient to Freeport, Maine. It's about a 10 minute drive. The park has lovely natural trails through treed forests with lots of fungi and animals present. The paths lead you to the rocky shores. There was an active Osprey nest on Googins Island.

Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Freeport is this gem of a place which offers picnic tables, outdoor bbq and tons of well marked hiking paths, so its an excellent place to spend the day and enjoy the outdoors.
Unfortunately for us we visited in mid November and while the park is still open, the weather was rainy and cold but the forest there is just so beautiful, especially along the waterfront that we really didn't mind.
Well worth the small detour from Freeport, only about ten minutes by car along well paved roads.

A great place to view the ocean and go fpr a casual walk. As of February 24th the trails are iced in. Creepers or ice grips are necessary to walk safe. The snow along the trail make it possible to walk but be prepared.

Short little trails that all connect. Beautiful views. Easily do just a mile and see plenty. If you come to Freeport for LL Bean, make sure you take the 10 minute drive over to this park and enjoy the beauty of the area too!

whether you enjoy camping, hiking, fishing, tooling around or nature in general, Wolfe's Neck has got it all. the scenic area is impeccably maintained and rangers are friendly and helpful.

It was a wonderful experience, getting back in touch with nature. The walking trails range from easy to challenging. Most trails were quite easy to navigate. Wear sturdy shoes and bring a camera to visit this state park. No overnight camping though.

Visited in October where park closes at 6pm. There are clear, marked trails that go through the tall trees and end at the ocean. The beach has lots of small crushed shells as well as lots of snails attached to the rocks. There were mounds of seaweed and rocks etched by the sea. The park is dog friendly too. I'm glad we visited.

I enjoyed our morning hike at Wolfe's Neck. Here are some tips / good things to know:
1. Make sure your shoes have good tread. There are some rocks that can be slippery (maybe wear your Bean Boots you get from down the road!)
2. Wear some bug spray. Trust me.
3. Look for the ospreys! They are magnificent birds. Just look up near the coast and you'll see them.
4. Watch your step! So many roots and rocks. Yes, there's a lot of glorious nature to look at, but just be mindful of where you step.
5. Don't forget your sunscreen!
6. There are picnic areas if that's your thing.
7. The trails aren't terribly long or complicated, so it's enough for a nice, casual hike.
8. Don't forget cash for admission. I don't mind paying it since it goes to help preserve a lovely place.
9. Definitely wear your athleisure for this.

did this hike last year- first place we went back to this year- easy hike- good trails- benches- bathroom- plenty of parking-shaded

I can't remember the last time my husband and I had to pay $12 to enter a park, very taken back by the steep price! I don't mind supporting the state parks but I would have expected more. The trails are nicely maintained and there are good water views. I wouldn't call it a "hike" necessarily but a pleasant wood walk.

Relaxing pathways/ trails thro a well maintained wooded forest of trees that meanders in and out and along Casco Bay with views of the bay/ocean. Places to sit by the bay, and story boards along the paths make for an informed visit. Picnic tables in one alcove along one trail were a nice respite for a group of hikers. Most people wearing masks and social distancing.
Unforgettable views of bay and people on boats and kayaks and paddle boards enjoying the bay waters.
We went to park about 10:30 AM and it were only a few hikers and parking lot had lots of spaces.
Easy walking for families and some short trails of .3/.5/1.2 miles no swimming along the bay trail now.
Easy parking, entrance fee for 2 Senoirs $4.00

Lovely area to take family for a hike along the Maine coastline. I highly suggest this hike. Breathtaking views

close to Freeport with good signs. A pleasant day trip...Guys take note...Out of state residents who are seniors are charged $2 per person. What a great deal. Nice picnic area with tables. 100% experience ...

Went to hike and we were delighted with trails...It is also right on Casco Bay so great place to see the ocean, have a picnic or whatevert

Went on the trail to Casco Bay. Saw the osprey fly into it's nest. Trails are well marked. A nice break from shopping.

Stopped by this past weekend - to escape the busyness of the city. Just what I needed. I did the Harraseket, Casco Bay and North Loop trails. Easy terrain. Maintained trails. I encountered very little traffic - just a few other people and everyone was polite. I loved being able to walk down to the water in several spots and relax on the rocks.

Great state park with very nice trails. Mostly flat, easy walking. Nice views of the water. Great spot for a picnic lunch.

Walking paradise! Beautiful views of Casco Bay and A great place for a picnic. Much to learn from signs about wildlife and their habitats. Excellent for observing tides.

It is worth it take a look. Free and if you are by car just drive over there and take some nice pics

Its an incredible place for a walk! The trails are amazing and if you have a chance, just sit on the rocks along the bay, it's so peaceful! Great stop!

Very nice walking trails and several beaches. We saw a variety of wildlife including Osprey and their nest, and a horseshoe crab. The woods are nice and the entire visit was very pleasurable. Lacks bathrooms.

A beautiful place to walk and hike along the coast of Maine! You can be down by the water on the sandy, rocky coast one moment, and be hiking through the woods with a view of the ocean moments later. There are short, easy trails, and longer trails that take you deeper into the woods. Dog friendly as well! By far my favorite place in the state to walk and take in the beauty of Maine!

Whenever I'm in Freeport on a nice day with a little extra time, I always make the short drive (10-15mins from downtown) out to this park. It's just a lovely way to get a taste of Maine coast and forest, not to mention a little fresh air and exercise if you've been in the car for awhile. The trails are generally not too strenuous or long, but might not be perfect for very small children or those with strollers. You can tailor your route to your group's interests/activity level pretty easily. It's been pretty in the three seasons I've been there (haven't tried winter yet) and worth the short detour. Stop along the way for food at Bow Street Market and have a picnic lunch while enjoying the views.

This state park offers the picture perfect treat to the senses and feast to eyes . The trees and the trails all along the water . The entry fee is nominal . There are no food outlets . There are picnic tables . The great expense of the open green field is inviting . The walk down the short trail takes you to the marsh I land and on the rocky area of the beach ! A treat to the people who live to go in the trails ! If you are in main you must not miss this park .

Great hiking trails with wonderful views. Easy to get to from Freeport. Small entry fee to the park.

A short drive from the town of Freeport, ME. Visited in late December, gate was open and parked at one of several parking areas. Hiked parts of the Casco Bay, Haraseeket, and Old Woods trails which were easy to moderate. Beautiful woods and ocean/bay views. Grab your hiking boots, walking stick, and camera and you're set to go!

It is an easy drive from Freeport and the hikes are excellent. The paths are well maintained although the price is a bit high for a State Park. Still, it is worth a few hours.

We loved the trails and hiking along the ocean. They’ve provided lots of “pull-offs” so you can relax near the ocean. It’s peaceful and easy for the young kids. Glad we went! I wish it wasn’t quite so expensive to get in, though.

I live in Maine and have been in and out of Freeport for years, but never visited this park until now. It has some lovely treks in the woods and beautiful views of the ocean.

Lots of trails that all end at the Casco Bay trail along the water. Bring a lunch and sit on the rocks at low tide. It's a lovely park with lots of picnic tables and room for the kids to run. Love it!

we camped here 40 years ago....very surprised (pleasantly) that it was not developed into house lots. the farm, with lambs, goats....open to the public.....priceless. worth the drive, even in mud season

Hiked about 2 miles taking in some of the nicer trails which are well maintained. Fee to enter the park was $4.50 per person. It was nice and quiet in the woods for the most part. There were a couple of ocean views and a few locations where you could take some stairs down to the ocean. Well worth the time to visit.

We wanted to take a break from shopping while in Freeport and our hosts at the White Cedar Inn suggested Wolfe's Neck Park. We could not have been happier with their suggestion and had a great time enjoying the afternoon hiking. Be prepared for climbing on some rocks to get to the water, a lot of tree roots and bring a map of the park (provided by the rangers). Also bring some water as it does get warm.

6 of us came up to Maine from NC looking for beautiful trails and scenic vistas. Wolf's neck provides this and much more. The longer trail, almost 2 miles, is easily traversible by those newer to hiking, and provides views of both sides of the island.
The trails are well-marked and clear of debris.
Recommend closed toed shoes.

Perfect spot to get some exercise away from Freeport shopping. Pack a lunch and eat at any of the picnic areas or go out on the rocks to sit. Easy walking paths to follow. Very clean.

Though small for a State Park, it has some really nice trails and lots of beautiful scenery. Go during high tide for some really great photography.

Nice trails that run along the ocean. Nothing too challenging. Clean bathrooms. Ample places to picnic. Nice grassy field to thrown around a football if you so choose. Nice opportunity to see osprey when they're around.

After doing some shopping in the city of Freeport, we needed to escape the chaos and find some quiet outdoor time. It also gave us an hour or longer for our Visa card to cool down from all the swiping at LL Bean and the other stores along the Main Street. The trails and views from this state park were great. We would definitely come back. The trails were not challenging, but this was just what we were looking for in a state park.

An amazing State Park just minutes from downtown Freeport! There is an admission charge but worth it. There are many trails and picnic areas. The views along the water are amazing! A great place for nature lovers, families, and hikers!

This park is basically a hiking or picnic spot. The beach is mostly large rocks, so wear sturdy shoes. The view from the beach is very pretty. I thought the per person entrance fee (rather than per car) was a little high.

This was the first of 3 hikes we took near Freeport..and the most beautiful and the most fun, also the most hikers..took the dog and had a very scenic hike thru the woods and the stairs and the paths to the casco bay were gorgeous.

This place is a gem! Great walking trails and great views. It's a nice oasis to clear your head. We love taking the dogs here!

A beautiful landscape and view. But I can't agree with others that the trail was easy to hike. We took the whole loop and encountered steep and rocky grades in several areas. This was a challenge for someone who is not an experienced hiker.

This is a great park from the clean restrooms, clearly marked trails and maps. It's not often that you get to encounter a beach on a hike and it did not disappoint!

Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park is a lovely spot for a casual walk through beautiful woods and by a scenic river.

A delightful place to take a hike, a gentle meander or even have a picnic. I saw my very first horseshoe crab here.

This relatively small state park is delightful. There are a number of walking trails, most along the Casco Bay. There are overlooks and steps down to the rocks in a number of areas. There are also trails through the woods. It is a wonderful spot.

We were looking for something to do on a hot afternoon in July and this was perfect! Reasonable admission fee especially if you are 65 or older! It is much cooler than the outlets. The trails are well maintained and mostly level walking. It was an easy walk to the shore. You could stay dry or get your feet wet. There are picnic tables and signs along the trails with information about the area, It was a very relaxing afternoon

We’re locals and we often pop over to the Wolf’s Neck Park for fresh air and lovely water views. The trails are easy but you do have to pay attention to roots across the trails, shaky stairs, and some slippery rocks. However, the water views and the probability of seeing the osprey’s nest, with fledglings on nearby island all make it worth the trip.
But remember to lotion up with DEET bug spray, for the ticks, blackflies and mosquitoes. After all, it is Maine.
Enjoy!

Like most families it's nice to seek out affordable activities that also give us some time out in the fresh air for the kids to burn off some energy after a long car trip! Made a stop here during a family vacation in Maine and it was a great visit. Our 7 year old enjoyed the trail and it is very do-able for a young child (ours gets cranky on trails too long or too difficult). Lovely park and the washroom facilities were surprisingly very clean. Would definitely visit again!

Great park! It's about 6$ each for out of state residents. The trails were great not that crowded and the trails along the water were outstanding.

The first time I was here was so nice that I brought my wife the second time. The hiking trails are packed earth, but many are riddled with roots. Some are handicap accessible, and there are picnic tables with grill reserved for the handicap. We were hoping to see some osprey, but they had flown south earlier in the month. The island where they nest is very close by and there is a viewing area with an informational plaque. We did see a nest. We also saw a fox to our delight. The trails are well marked with names and walking distances. You can walk down to the shore. Plenty of picnic tables plus a few grills. Six restrooms, plus two outhouses. Parking may be tight during peak times. We would not hesitate to return. The fee is FREE to $4 depending on age. The honor system is in place during the off-season.

Great park to take a stroll in and stop at the many trails to watch the open water and sit on a rock. The trails aren't strenuous at all so it's great for any level. The fee was $6 per person. It is also about 10 minutes away from Freeport Outlets.

Had a pleasant couple of hours hiking around Wolfe State Park ... it was clean, quiet and had some very nice views of the water and islands. If you want to kill a few hours in between shopping in Freeport it's certainly worth the time. I'd give it a 3.5 overall.

This was so cool to see the bay area in one direction and the forest in the other direction. We didn't get to visit the whole farm, but will next time.

We visited this park yesterday on a motorcycle ride along the coast. We had never been here before and wanted to see something new. It's only about 5 minutes outside of Freeport. Go past the signs for Wolfes Neck Farm (2 entrances) and the park will be your next left. The short road in is dirt. There are 2 fairly large parking lots and an outhouse if in dire need. There are a few trails and rocks where you can sit right on waters edge, Enjoy!

Quick getaway trails. Not long or tough but the views along the coast are very good. Dog friendly and the staff was very good and offered assistance relative to where to catch a glimpse of the local osprey.

Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park is a short 10 minute drive from downtown Freeport. Lovely trails and water views. Highly recommend!

Nice way to kill an hour along the coast. A lot better than the Outlets and chaos of downtown. Trail maps and a brief history are provided in the brochures in the parking lot.

Stopped here on my way to Boothbay and had my lunch on a huge rock on the water, watching
hawks, osprey and lots of other birds. It was glorious on a warm summer afternoon! Tough to leave to get back on the road. I'd go again in a heartbeat!

There is more to Freeport, ME than shopping and this is a perfect example. Wolfe’Neck is a great park with many trails and beautiful scenery. I highly recommend stopping by if you are in Freeport and looking for a place to hike and/or get some fresh air!

Wolfe's Neck Woods is a lovely place for a moderate difficulty hike, and an opportunity to appreciate the location and its wildlife.

We stopped on our way to Boothbay Harbor. It was a wonderful place with nice trails. A great stop to stretch your legs in a beautiful relaxing area. Not somewhere to spend a lot of time but a great stop. There was a six dollar charge to enter the park but it was worth it and it's a state park :)

My husband and I visit Wolfe’s Neck several times during the year to either hike or snow shoe. Today was a hot day, however the sea breeze was nice and the views gorgeous. The paths are easy to navigate, with benches and small beaches to linger on along the way. There are different length trails from 1/2 mile to a couple of miles. Bring a lunch, there are several picnic tables, including ones that are handicap accessible. There is an entrance fee; $4 for residents, $6 for non-residents.

Quick stop to say we saw the coast. Nice quiet family discovery time. Would like to go back to explore the trails. The admission fees seem quite pricey. But not if you are going for a whole day.

Nice park along the coast close to downtown Freeport. Trails follow coastline and there are some nice picnic spots. More an area for exploring tide pools at low tide than for swimming.

This is a lovely park that has great trails in the woods and views of Casco Bay. If you are lucky you will get to see the osprey nesting. The park rangers are terrific and will give you tours and information about the park. It is cool on a hot day and just a short ride from downtown Freeport so you can still get in plenty of shopping (or take a break from shopping) plus get in a fun hike/walk in the woods by the water.

My son and I hiked around the park a little while we were in Freeport. The only two things to do seemed to be to picnic or hike. NOTE: if you hike in the evenings near sunset, which we did, wear some high-concentration deet repellant as the no-see-ums are awful (they eventually drove us out of the park). It's pretty when the tide is in, but you'll have to decide for yourself if its worth $6 per head to get into the park.

Was a beautiful spot. Early is season, didn't have to pay. Will definitely go back. There are restrooms.

Based on Trip Advisor reviews, we made a trip to Wolfe's Neck Woods Park. It is a short distance from Freeport - there is a charge to get in but it is minimal and so worth it. From the parking lot, there are easy paths to spectacular views. Our first stop was the water front and we found it to be just how Maine looks in photos. You can view the osprey island and walk along the rocky coastline. Beautiful views, not to be missed. The paths are easy to walk , and there are many paths through the trees. There is even a non slope path appropriate for strollers, or anyone with walking difficulties. This was our first day in Maine and very lovely - I agree with other reviews that this Park is not to be missed.

Wolfe' Neck is a very understate park imo. It's not huge, but it's perfect for a nice picnic on the rocks by the water. They have picnic tables back before you get to the rocks and I believe some charcoal grills to use as well. You can beat the view!

We were desperate for a hike, but also had our 5 year old grandson with us, so nothing too strenuous was desired. The Harraseekit Trail at Wolfe's Neck SP fit the bill perfectly. The Trail was well maintained, in fact we even encountered and spent some time talking to a trail maintenance crew while they took a break from trying to haul a several hundred pound stone into place using straps and shoulder power. The trail is not marked with blazes, and we wandered briefly off course at one turn where the ground was thickly covered with fallen leaves and without blazes to follow we missed the turn, but we realized it within minutes and back tracked easily. The trail wanders in an out of the woods, and when it comes out it does so to walk along the Bay and provides beautiful views. Over the course of it's roughly 2.5 miles you cross the peninsula and touch both shores, it really is a wonderful little hike for anyone who is not looking for a strenuous hike. Parking was plentiful at the trail head and at the most expensive ($6 for out of state) still very reasonable.

We visited after reading trip advisor views. We were not disappointed as it was beautiful. The coastal views were like a small Arcadia . The only reason we have rated 4 is due to the size , it is quite small. We saŵ it was really well equipped for barbecues, plus had space for children to play. Really worth a visit .

The park was actually closed this time of year..but you are allowed to park in one area and walk. Breathtaking views - the smell of the pines....so peaceful.

On the drive towards the park we were very lucky to see an owl sitting in a tree at the edge of the road. When entering, the guy on the entrance was really helpful in telling us where to go to see the Osprey and about what other birds there were around.
We parked in car park1 and walked towards the coast, very quickly coming down onto a beach with a view of the island with an Osprey nest on, where the young were flying around.
The cost was $6 per adult (if live outside Maine) to get in and once in there are loads of walks, picnic benches, toilets.
Worth a visit.

If you are fortunate enough to avoid the crowds, this is a very special place to visit. Going on a weekday is the best bet. A lovely place to relax and soak up some Maine energy.

Lovely trails, some right along the ocean, some overlooking the Harraseekett River. Most trails are flat; very little elevation gain.

Our tent campsite was wonderful. We were in a site that wasn’t considered ocean side but we still could see the bay from our site and it was fantastic! We even had a turkey walk through with her babies in the early evening. The site was quiet and the campground had nice amenities, including clean bathrooms.

Great place to get away, yet right outside of busy Freeport. We stayed at the campground. Lots of walking trails.

What a wonderful contrast to the outlets that are just a few miles down the road. Pack a lunch, bring your dog & camera, and enjoy the fresh air and serene views.

As a senior, the cost was $3.00 for both us, our puppy did not have to pay. Very enjoyable walk in the woods with topical Maine views. Our dog got some welcome outdoor time and so did we after a long drive.

Lovely wooded State Park on the shore of Casco Bay, a short drive from Main St. Freeport. Family friendly hiking trails, picnic tables and rest rooms. Entrance fee of $6.00 if from out of state, $2.00 person if out of state senior citizen. Go in early am for best parking and less crowds in summer.

Park promotes their ospreys you can see, but can only see them with binoculars. Entrance fee is $6 per person for out of staters.

Absolutely gorgeous. Go after kids are back in school and during the week. We had the park almost to ourselves. Uncrowded trails. We were able to get fantastic photos. Pet friendly (on leash), pet waste station with bags as well.

We did a quick visit to the park for a short hike & it was perfect with my 2 small kids. It's a beautiful view, very clean & the Park Ranger was really helpful. Worth visiting if you are staying in Freeport & want some exercise with the family.

We rented a house right on Wolfe’s Neck road. The view is absolutely spectacular. We went in the winter and It had just snowed. The drive down to the park was beautiful. I highly suggest taking a break from shopping and look at the breathtaking view of the Maine coastline!

This state park has wonderful trails with several detours down to the water. I went after the tourist season and in the morning so I had no issues parking. There are quite a few parking spaces but I imagine it can fill up quickly during peak season. Entrance fee was $6.
The trails were easy and wooded. I really enjoyed the paths that led to the water. The tide was going out, so my dog and I discovered a couple of beaches. The pup saw his first horseshoe crab carcass. That was comical.
I didn’t see any restrooms, but the trails were meticulously maintained so well worth the price.
Overall it was a nice location to spend the morning outside.

The woods, the waterfront and the paths are all gorgeous. So close to town that you have to go for a hike. Photo opportunities abound

We made a quick stop here as we had a late flight out of Portland. I wish we would have had more time. This is a beautiful area. We took a short hike along the shore. The views of Casco Bay are beautiful. We saw seals and other birds. This would be a great area for kayaking although I don't believe they rent them in the park.

perfect weather, great campground as always! see you next year. excellent, clean facilities and free showers.

We walked the White Pines Trail and part of the Casco Bay Trail. We walked down to the waters edge a few times. Beautiful views. Very well kept park. Clean facilities.
Check yourself for ticks after your walk.

Beautiful spot along the water - a great place to just relax and take everything in away from the sometimes crowded Freeport shopping scene.

We found this listed online and we were looking to kill sometime and do something outdoorsy.
The gate was unmanned and solicited $2 per person (senior). Dropped money in the box and headed in. Plenty of parking and it looked like it might be crowded. It was not crowded and there were a lot of very well marked trails. See pictures.
The trails were clean and well maintained.
And were beautiful. We especially enjoyed the trails along the water and that they had numerous places you could go down to the ocean.
Very much enjoyed the visit and we’ll be back.

Gorgeous views & well kept trails , we did the whole system which was about 4 or 5 miles in total. A great place to hike with dogs (on leash) or family. Easy to moderate trails, some elevation . Picnic area & restrooms available as well.

Not the largest park by any means, but well worth visiting for the beautiful views over the ocesn snd the river on either side of the peninsula. We were told there were several breeding ospreys in the park and we did see one over the water, fabulous!

Before venturing to other parts of the state we stopped by Wolfe's Neck state park to stretch our legs and get away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Freeport. It offers just that - a nice scenic spot to unwind away from the chaos of the rest of town.

We spent a lovely afternoon exploring the trails in this well kept park. It's well worth the time spent. We're seniors and most of the trails were easy to navigate.

Pretty cool for our kids to visit. They got to experience tides going out and were occupied with periwinkle and other sea life. We missed the Osprey show but saw one in the distance.

pretty park, just 3 miles from downtown, great short hikes and vistas of the bay. Could not park in park during march, had to park on street.

I have been to Freeport many times, but only learned of this park this year, from a comment on the web. It was easy to find by GPS and not too expensive to enter. After paying, the young man gave me a map and directions of where to park and how to find the osprey nest.
I parked in Parking lot 2 and followed the accessible Casco Bay Trail to the shore, hoping to see the ospreys who nest on nearby Googins Island. Good to watch your feet, as I tripped once over a root. I missed seeing the osprey family, although I spotted the nest high in a tree on the island. The view from the shore out to the bay is really spectacular, you can see for miles

Right on the water. Not too many people. Great trails very quiet. A little expensive for visitors. Go

Excellent state park very clean and great trails scenic. We enjoyed the charcoal grills and had a nice picnic after our walk.

Really nice play to hike/walk with beautiful views. Multiple trails with variety. One of the trails meandered so that you always had views of the Casco Bay (the Casco Bay trail) and other were pretty and through the woods. There is very little elevation change. The Casco Bay Trail is very flat and very easy and there are stone steps leading to the water''s edge which was fun for kids as they could walk on the rocks near the water. This trail is suitable for all ages: the path is smooth. The Ledge and trail starting with an N were still pretty easy but had more tree roots and stones and might be a little harder for an older person. Very pretty place that is worth seeing if you are in Freeport. Our group included a 72 year-old, a 7 year-old and an assortment of kids and middle aged people and everyone really enjoyed our walk. We spent about 90 minutes there. You could really create your own length trip by combining the various trails. Cost was $3 per person I think.

Several trail choices. Great view of the water. Several places where you can get down near the water.

This little park is extremely beatiful. It doesn't take more than an hour and a half to explore it all but the coastal path is just amazing. Incredibly beatiful.

A nice little state park. Has lots of walking trails and a really nice picnic area. The White Pine picnic area is off to the left and back in the woods. You half to hunt for it but it is secluded from the rest of the picnic area. There are a couple of nice accessible trails they are not long but are hard packed gravel and easy to get around on. A great place to grab a to go lunch and enjoy nature.

Beautifully secluded little state park with a maze of easy hiking trails around the property. A November visit means it's not crowded.

This lovely state park is about a 15 minute drive away from downtown Freeport but miles away in atmosphere. There are several easy, pleasant and scenic hiking trails with great views of the water and adjacent bays. It's a refreshing break and a great spot for a picnic after fighting the LLBean shopping wars.

My wife and I loved it here, this is why we came to Maine to enjoy the scenery and nature. After a horrible hotel experience we were super pleased to enjoy nature and this park. I would wholeheartedly recommend coming here, enjoy the day.

Great day trip to a Very Nice place away from the hustle and bustle....
love taking pics and touring the park...

We love Wolfe's Neck in summer, fall or winter. There is a variety of hiking trails. you can lay on the rocks and enjoy the ocean air, look of thi gs a low tide or hike through some woods. much of it id handicap accessible as well. There are a good amount of pucnic tables and a great green area for kids to run. The offer ranger talks at various times which are interesting. It is beautiful in the fall with the colors. There are typically osprey to watch in the summer. winter is a nice quieter hiking time. There are trails of various lengths so it weorks for lots of people. The facilities are basic but clean. There is a pavilion that is often used for functions.

My wife & I visited this State Park in Sept while in between events surrounding our son's wedding. We had limited time here but what we took in was really nice. We needed some space and nature along with excellent views. Though a bit foggy in areas it was still a wonderful place to explore. It is off the main drag of Freeport which can get a bit overwhelming at time, if you know what I mean. So, a walk in the woods, camp site and picnic area are all thrown into one here. Enjoy.

Good for a morning or afternoon hike (the park is small, but lovely). The perfect Maine blend of forest and coast.

I loved hiking here although the fee was a bit steep. Really beautiful and peaceful. I imagine this would be good in all weather.

While in Freeport, my wife and I decided to check out this park. We did go to this park on a very nice day. Beautiful views of the bay there. With COVID, people maintained separation but was still enjoyable. To get to some of the trails and to the rocks as shown in this picture, you will have some up/down trails to walk. If you have some physical limitations, this can be an issue to enjoy the bayside access. The other thing to mention is that there's a fee for both resident and non-resident. However, there is no one to take your money or make change. You need to come with exact change and drop the money in a steel cylinder at the entrance. Other than that, would come back, again!

it is great place to walk along the shoreline. exploring tidal pools and experincing the sea on the rugged Maine coast. i is a great area for photography

A lovely quiet spot with miles of trails right on the ocean and in the woods. There is a small playground for kids and some picnic tables, but we like to walk the dog along the scenic shoreline. A great place to spend an afternoon with nature.

It's a small park but what is here is nice.
The trails are nice and remind me of the Appalachian trail in the higher elevations of NC and Tenn. Although you aren't far from the parking lot at times, the isolation and views of the bay sure fool.
While we were there we were told by two different rangers that the Osprey nest had been attacked by an eagle and one of the two chicks had been killed. The other was knocked out of the nest and was rescued being cared for outside of the park. So no occupied nest but we did see an Osprey fishing.
Is it worth the $9 (for two)? Only if you hike the trails and take some time to walk around.
We showed up for the 2 pm nature walk with the ranger that meets by the parking lot. We were the only ones who showed so we got lots of information on our short nature walk that was designed for a children level audience, but I learned a lot as he was very knowledgeable on our questions too.
Bring your camera if you are going, there are lots of good views out toward the water.

After all the hustle and bustle you can get away to the Maine coast and have a cookout and hike among a lovely forest and alongside some beautiful shore. There are hiking trails all throughout this park, many of which shadow the shoreline with areas to climb down to the waters edge. Lots of families clamming or just hiking along the rocky shore. A family of Ospreys inhabits their nest high on a tree on Goggins Island. The park has picnic tables and grills for cooking. There are rest rooms as well. Fun time!

WELL WORTH the 10 minute drive from the outlets. The hikes were beautiful and easy. Loved to just sit on the rocky beach and watch the ospreys. Don't forget to bring the park fee in cash!

We came for a few hours and it was DEFINATLY worth the hour drive for us. We were on vacation from Louisiana, staying in Wells, so we were up for exploring. Just watch out for the stinging catapillars!! The park ranger at the entrance warned us about them. We didn't get stung, but they were all over the wooden handrails on the bridge, the benches and basically any wood.

We always hike Wolfs neck when camping. Great for whole family and stunning veiws. Easy for all ages.

Great hiking trails. Spectacular views along the bay. Trails well marked. Picnics to have lunch scattered around.

Drove up from Portland for a half day hike. Spent most of our time on Casco Bay Trail to White Pines but also walked Ledge Trail and intend to explore more of the wooded area in the future.
My 12 year old lab mix had a blast and the trails were easy enough for him to get up and down.
Great shaded picnic areas overlooking the water and Googins Island which is protected for Osprey nesting.

Great place to hike. Many different trails. Beautiful woods and water views. Osprey nest can be viewed from the rocky shore.

Well-marked trails, beautiful vistas of Casco Bay, and plenty of park employees make this a perfect place for a family outing for children of all ages.

Nice and easy hiking trails for the family with great views. Make sure that along with your camera you have a pair of binoculars.

We visited this park after Labor Day and there was no entrance fee. The trails were well maintained and fairly easy to navigate, I was scheduled to have knee surgery less than 2 months after our visit and I was able to make it to waters edge and return. The views of Casco Bay were well worth the effort and it was a pleasant break from all of the shopping at Freeport.

This is nearby our house and we usually go off season, but also take visitors in the summer. Easy walking trails and good coastal access. Insider's tip - take the trail which goes across the road to the other side (Harraseeket River)

Beautiful park in all kinds of weather. Could have spent hours here just watching the waves. Would definitely visit again when i go back.

We drove to this park on the advice of one of the locals. It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed walking around and utilizing the amateur hiking trails through the woods. We didn’t see much of any wildlife. (as a city girl I was glad) No Osprey, No Nests. That was okay too. We just enjoyed walking around and checking out the scenery.

Walked a bit on trail. Difficult for anyone with limited mobility but that's to be expected. Were able to navigate far enough to get glimpses of bay. Well maintained are?

Spent a wonderful morning on the Historic wagon ride to the past at Wolfe's Neck Farm. from 10-12 noon. Jim drove the Farm tractor and told us about growing up in the area and the Farm and Kathy did a wonderful job giving the history talk during the wagon ride Wolfe's Neck Farm. Included on the tour are the 3 Greek revival historic Farm homes on property, the salt box farm 1700's oldest home in Freeport, the Mallet Barn- largest barn in Maine- beautiful, the former Wolfe's Neck schoolhouse, the gorgeous Stone House, designed by John Calvin Stevens, the Wedding field and much much more.. fascinating and all for just $6 for adults - children prices I believe too

Nicely marked hiking trails. Easy trails, but not accessible. Beautiful views. Only wish the trails were longer. Longest was less than 2 miles.

From the shores of the Casco Bay to the banks of the Harraseekett River, great hiking, relaxing, and if you're lucky, a bald eagle and/or Osprey sighting! Must see when you're in Freeport

We visited one morning. Walking through the woods the only sounds we could hear were birds calling and acorns falling from trees. We went down to the shore and it was quite simply breathtaking. We watched a heron for ages, saw chipmunks scurrying about the rocks and eagles flying overhead then heard splashing out on the water and it was a group of seals.
There is something very special about the atmosphere in this place and the memories will stay for years to come. We loved it.

This is a great state park to visit while in Freeport. It has nice hiking trails, particularly near the water.

Found the place by accident. While talking to a manager, who invited us to look round, we had a fantastic encounter with a Bald Eagle and a live fish, Saint David Attenborough stuff.
All very interesting.

A beautiful fall hike with views of the coast. There were lots of people also hiking, and the parking lot was pretty full, but still had solitude.

Very beautiful. Picnic tables available. Nature trails thru the park. Nesting area for Ospreys. Bathroom facilities. Pet friendly

Wonderful paths, well marked, clean rest rooms, gorgeous views!! We were SO glad we stopped here for an afternoon hike - only wish we'd had a lot more time to enjoy this amazing park!

This park is a short drive from Freeport through a beautiful somewhat rural area ending with a farm just before entering the park. The park consists of a series of trails through woods and out to the ocean. During low tide you can explore the rocky beach. With the maze of trails you can take a short walk or spend the afternoon wandering the trails. It is very well maintained. It is a nice interlude from shopping in Freeport.

This state park is under-rated and a hidden gem for you. Even in the winter, the walking paths and views of Casco Bay and Harraseeket Bay are exceptional. Nice easy terrain, and short distances. Take an hour, or three hours and take it all in.

Clean flat trails for all types of walkers and sightseers. I absolutely loved taking visitors here. Quietly if you're in the Osprey is probably the best part of the walk.

I didn't walk the whole loop, just part of the Casco Bay trail. I was very impressed by the maintenance of the trails and the cleanliness of the bathroom. The Casco Bay trail was nice, just rocky enough for a vigorous walk. It was a bit misty by the water but still very enjoyable.

It was about $6.00 per adult to enter the park, but as that helps with conservation and upkeep, I did not feel bad about it. We had a delightful walk. We spent about a half hour with the park ranger who showed us how to gather clams and even found one to start us on our way. We did not have to have any license to gather clams. We didn't have gloves so we didn't dig deep to prevent getting bitten by blood worms. But we got some good clams which we cooked with our lobsters and had a memorable evening after our adventure. Only loss was our shoes. Next visit, we will take boots. Beautiful views. Will go again.

We visited off-season which probably affected our perception of the place but it's nothing more than glorified picnic area. Good views are scarce and the forest is, well, a forest.
We were the only visitors in the park so we thought charging $6 per person off-season is quite steep and greedy (for comparison, Acadia national park we visited next was not charging anything before May.
What a disappointment.

Visited here with friends as part of the LLBean activity centre
Beautiful scenery, well maintained & looked after

Just outside of Freeport, a very nice campground. Good sized sites, many on the water. Showers are free, laundry is available near the office and snack bar. A bit pricey, especially for sites on the water.

This state park is well located just outside of Freeport so easy to get to, it is small and has good parking and well signed trails. Great for wildlife spotting, we saw Osprey's

This a great state park, to go for a stroll, and spend day. The park rangers have stops to explain about the Ospre...

When you sick of all the crowds shopping in Freeport, escape to this Beautiful park! Very easy trails and wonderful views. Dog friendly. Bring a picnic lunch, lots of tables in the shade. Good rest room facilities also.

The park, although not well signed is easy to find from Freeport using Google maps. We visited on a cold windy day, but expect that during the summer it would be quite pleasant. There are a number of walkable trails.

We arrived at the park at 9 a.m. On a Saturday morning in September. The ranger was very helpful with guiding us where to hike. There are a lot of trails here. We did all of them on the ocean side within 2 hours. So glad we found this place. It was clean and had beautiful views of Casco Bay. The trails were well kept and easy. The rocks at some of the vistas can get wet and slippery so wear good shoes. There are plenty of birds including ospreys and eagles. I recommend this park if you have a few hours.

State park that opens at 9:00 am. Small charge per person to get in but heck it goes towards the maintenance of the park. Big osprey nest at the southern end of the trail.

Beautiful park on the ocean, with lovely fall colors during the Harvest Season and lots to see and do.

Beautiful Views of the Water along with hiking trails.
Excellent place to go & relax!
Very Peaceful & not overcrowded!

This beautiful state park on Casco Bay is a wonderful way to see a different part of Freeport. If you and your family have shopped until you're ready to drop, spend a relaxing day exploring the beautiful hiking trails and views of some of the Casco Bay islands from this rare piece of heaven a short distance from LL Bean and downtown Freeport. Be sure to bring a picnic lunch and your camera! This park appeals to everyone - from couples to families with young children to individuals wanting to enjoy nature.

Nice Park if you are looking for a comfortable walk along the Maine Coast. Small and quiet, but worth the price of admission...$6.00 for out-of-state.

We visited on a nice day in September. We needed and found easy walking paths. Pretty scenery. Picnic areas. Bathrooms. $6 fee per person was high. The official at the entry booth was not helpful and did not hand out maps. Visits seem best for leisurely hiking.

We visit here at least weekly in Spring, Summer and early Fall. We should all patronize our State Parks and this is a favorite. Its beautiful and you can also bring a picnic to enjoy at one of the tables or sit on the rocks overlooking parts of magnificent Casco Bay. The walking is lovely and there are many paths to choose from. This is not serious hiking for those looking for a challenge but for individuals not fit (and perhaps who don't enjoy walking), they should pay attention to the maps and their time. Currently there are two Osprey Nests, one being along one of the trails and the other on an island (Googins Island) easily viewable from the rocks. A gorgeous place so close to Freeport outlet shopping. 100%!

Wolfe’s State Park is beautiful, relaxing and not crowded. It is serene, has amazing views and your senses are buoyed with the smell of Pine. Don’t need more than an hour or two to really enjoy this lovely stop.

We visited on a cool, sunny fall day when conditions were perfect for walking and enjoying the water views. It was too late in the season to see any ospreys, but the island nesting site was visible from the shore. We encountered a number of other visitors, some of whom were jogging, others walking a dog, and some who were there hoping for great pictures. It's a beautiful area.

Beautiful place. Good parking facilities. You will have to pay to be able to enter by car. Think it was 6$.

Very peaceful and gorgeous spot of nature. We had a great time hiking through the trails and relaxing on the beach.

My husband and I had a picnic lunch her last week. It is a short walk to a rocky shore From the parking lot with a little bit of sand on which to put a chair. They apparently encourage dogs — There were lots to see and they seem to have a good time. I heard kids exclaiming over hermit crabs and currently there are Osprey in the area although we did not see any. The very nice park rangers warned us about the Browntail moth and took our four dollars apiece which seems a bit pricey frankly. I would prefer goin there were lots to see and they seem to have a good time. I heard kids exclaiming over hermit crabs and currently there are Osprey in the area although we did not see any. The very nice park rangers warned us about the Browntail moth and took our four dollars apiece which seems a bit pricey frankly. My advice is for the price go to Winslow Park nearby. The ocean views are better, there’s lots of grass and playground for the kids and more ocean front – at least from what I saw.

This is a great destination for anyone visiting Freeport.
The park is within a 10 - 15 minute drive from downtown Freeport (and the shops.)
The cost for non-Maine residents is just $6.00 per person. For out-of-state seniors it's only $2 pp.
There's plenty of parking. Paths are clearly marked and stone steps or wooden ones have been laid down in strategic places.
This park is very friendly for seniors. Even people who have minor difficulty walking should be able to use its more gentle paths. But, some of the steeper or rockier ones might be a bit challenging to other seniors. Walking poles would be a good idea for folks not-so-steady on their feet.
For kids it's great. They can go down to the water and swim off the rocks. It's also an excellent location for kayakers and canoers.
The bay and the park are beautiful in any light. As a photographer I really enjoyed it.
It's no wonder that Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park is the number one attraction in Freeport. Be sure to spend some time there!

We tent camped on a high bluff overlooking the ocean. How can that be topped? No bugs, no humidity, and roasted marshmallows. It truly was one of our best travel surprises ever.

Love love love it!! We come every year and it is wonderful. My children are 12 and 14 and they have loved this since they were 8 and 10. Great trip for family's with tons of trails to strike your fancy

Park is very pretty. wooded densely. there are well marked trails and some of them are very close to the water. Most visitors come to Freeport for the outlet shopping but Freeport is much more. The park was quiet and it felt like we were alone. beautiful water views.

We enjoyed the Casco Bay trail that included a salt marsh and beautiful views of Casco Bay. Dogs are welcome and trails are wide and easy. This park is very well maintained. Be aware that there is an entrance fee.

Went for a quick drive to this place. Glad we did. We hiked the short distance through the woods to the water. It was cold but so incredibly beautiful.

Being seniors, we got in for $2 each and is a true bargain. The two parking lots were convenient to the trails, which were well maintained. It was very peaceful and picturesque at the water's edge. I would help if the park staff would put up tags identifying the various plants and trees for those from areas far away.

We have been to Freeport several times, mainly (pun intended) for shopping and dining. After we checked out of the hotel we went for a drive and discovered this park. It was a lovely sunny day, and if we had planned ahead we could have brought a picnic lunch and sat on one of the picnic tables and looked out over the water. Next time we would plan to walk along one of the trails. There are barbecue grills set up, a playground area for children, and stairs to the water. Plenty of parking.

Beautiful and tranquil hiking trails! Gorgeous water views, we loved it and definitely will be back! Fairly flat/easy hike!

We stopped by for a hike on a Saturday morning. Pleasant drive up from Portland and easy to find. Decent amount of parking and easy to find a spot that early. Trail was perfect for a novice like myself and had no trouble navigating. Slightly let down by the view of the water towards the middle of our hike as it was very limited and not much to see. Other than that it was a peace stroll with a few inclines and declines. I'm sure the other trails were more challenging and possibly led to better views. Would return again if I was in the area and looking for a hike.

My wife and daughter wanted to shop in Freeport, so my son and I decided to come to the state park. It's very small, but has some nice views of Casco Bay including a small island that contains nesting Ospreys.
Peaceful and lovely retreat
When we were there, the water was extremely calm. This made for lovely walking along the shoreline but, as a nice ranger said to us, it doesn't give you that "waves crashing on the shore - I know I've been to the ocean" feeling. This can be a positive or negative depending on your point of view. We enjoyed it very much.
