An Amazing Art Museum in Worcester. It has 4 floors and a nice gift shop. In August it is free all month. A nice plus as we got in for free and the parking is free in their lot too.A stroller would not work in here as it was one of the questions it asks. But thre are so many floors and stairs it would not work out.

For many years the Worcester Art Museum has been a gathering place for people in Worcester. Not only is it the home of a wonderfully eclectic art collection from all corners of the world, it is also a lovely place to have lunch with friends in the cafeteria, or in the summer time in the courtyard, and it is a resource for research, art restoration, a variety of interesting exhibits and performances as well as art classes for young and old. Recently the Museum acquired the Higgins collection of medieval armors, and they have understood to integrate this unique collection into their display in a very effective manner. Did I mention, that the gift shop is well stocked with interesting and beautiful items? If you come anywhere near Worcester, don't miss making a stop at the Museum, only: make sure you don't plan your visit for a Monday or a Tuesday, because those 2 days the museum is closed.

I had no expectation from this musem until I walked in.The muhas such a good and quality collection I really was astonished/
It was my first time and shurly not my last one.

Worcester is fortunate to have a fantastic and expansive collection, featuring some of the masters, avant-garde and progressive artists's work spanning all mediums and ages

This is a really nice museum with a ton to see and do. I held my child's birthday party there and it was a ton of fun and well ran. I have looked at having an event there but they are a bit pricey.

New exhibit on Paul Revere, my old favorites are back, the staff was very welcoming, so glad the WAM is open again!

One of Worcester’s best kept secrets: a world class museum whose permanent collection is worth boasting about - from Sargent watercolors to fantastic Antioch mosaics - all housed in a handsome late 19th century building. Moreover, you can lunch at the museum’s cafe and take classes in the education wing.

My 15 year old attended a drawing class, he enjoyed it. Thought the instruction was good. Reasonably priced as well.

I love cats and was looking forward to going to this exhibit. (Note I feed 4 feral cats and own two indoor cats.) I was disappointed in the live cat exhibit. Mostly because there wasn't enough room to walk around inside the cage to actually see the cats well. I ended up getting into "trouble" because I stepped on a couple pillow type objects inside the cage. Hey, I just wanted to see the cats. Wasn't that the purpose of this exhibit? I feel the cage was designed well for the cats, but it also needed to be designed better for people to walk and circle around the cats. After visiting, I also felt these poor cats weren't enjoying the people. They certainly didn't look happy. One kid (that I saw) kept pulling and patting a cat's tail. It was clear that this cat didn't like this treatment. On a positive note, I heard 17 cats had been adopted from this event. The actual museum seemed quite nice.

A lovely building with lovely content. Much more to see, and of higher quality, than many expect. Excellent Japanese prints, wide selection of US and global paintings and painters. Great special exhibitions. What's not to like?

My niece had her painting chosen to hang in WAM. The woman that greeted us as we came in could not have been warmer and more helpful.

We visited the Worcester Art Museum the day after we got married. We enjoyed spending time with each other touring the exhibits. The Roman art on the main floor drew our attention for a while, but we also toured many of the other galleries.

When one is bored in Worcester it's something to do. It's ok. Building is attractive. Average museum.

Always a delightful musem with special showings every few months. The outdoor cafe makes it a delightful outing for the day.

This museum had been on my bucket list for years, and we finally went recently. They have a nice collection of Renaissance art, and also American art. Much of the American art is exhibited with period furniture, etc.

We visited during the opening of "Homer in England", which was a powerful, and very well curated exploration of the time Homer spent in England. It was there that he fell in love with rocky coastlines, which upon his return to America, landed him in Maine. The museum also hosts an amazing armor and weapons collection, formerly of the Higgins Armory. The vast and varied collections have something for everyone, so make the WAM a future destination.

Had a great time just wandering exhibit to exhibit, floor to floor. Perfect morning spent. Wonderful to go into educational wing to view the wonderful art of local children

This museum is wonderful. It has an impeccable permanent collection of beautiful works mostly by artists I was not familiar with. It seems the curators found the best of lesser known artists rather than lesser works by well known artists. Highly recommended!

Try to get here every year or two. Plenty of parking. Went to see the Homer exhibit and also enjoyed a bell ringing concert. Easy to maneuver, well laid out. Great musuem ahop.

I've been here before and again have enjoyed my visit. Better to make more than one visit to fully appreciate all there is. The exhibit, Jewels of the Nile, is very well done and unusual.

I always enjoy a visit to WAM. A wonderful museum with significant art work. The restaurant is pleasant with limited offerings but nice. I wish they would expand the menu. The gift shop could also use a facelift but, all in all, a great place for anyone. WAM is on par with other great museums across the country.

There was a special display at the museum last year.. "From Kennedy to Kent State." It was a retrospective display of those tumultuous times. I am due for another visit!

The best things come in little packages and this little museum certainly packs a punch. Well laid out, great collection, some armaments, nice museum store, and friendly staff make for a grand day. Plenty of parking.

I have taken my 7 year old son here a few times, and he loves the Knights exhibit. My understanding is much of this collection is from the old Higgins Armory. There is a wonderful collection of Japanese art which I always find myself staying the longest for; Specifically the stone-work and pottery, which is just beautiful! The museum is small in comparison to some, but the amount of exhibits and fine art displays are surprising. There are also a large selection of art classes offered here.

never been here before,it is a really nice museum, the pictures are I liked the most.my mom and my daughter love it

Had a lot of variety and very nice pieces, as if a much larger museum had been condensed down to only the best items. The paintings were enjoyable to look at (had more subject matter than some of the big art museums that go overboard with dark depressing scenes of war).

On any other occasion I would have enjoyed every last minute of this beautiful museum however as the chaperone of 5 4th grade boys during what must have been a not so intelligently planned trip. This museum is not hands on and is not a place for large groups of children. The human bodies display would have been great again minus 8 and 9 year olds all pretending to gag and vomit at the site of naked adults.

This museum has an amazing collection. It's easy to spend a few hours looking around. Lots of places to sit and enjoy the artwork. Easy parking. Not at all crowded. Definitely recommend!

Went to Christmas concert and also enjoyed seeing the new exhibits. The new exhibits are always excellent and often innovative and fresh. The classic collections always excellent to see again and again.

while you still can. This exhibit of 17th and 18th century Spanish and Portuguese colonial art from the South American altiplano (high plains) ends on July 9, 2017. The collection, assembled by Richard and Roberta Huber, includes paintings, furniture, sculpture, silverwork and ivories. Although these beautiful items were created for those of the Catholic faith and to help impart its traditions, I find the works transcend religion. The artists who created these objects were master craftsmen.
The Renaissance court with its collection of mosaics (1st to 6th century A.D.) from Daphne, a suburb of Antioch, is quite a treasure and wonderful to see. Also located near this area is the French chapter house. Originally part of the Benedictine Priory of St. John at Le Bas-Nueil, it was the first medieval building transported from Europe to the U.S.
I plan to return soon to see the medieval galleries and more of the permanent collection. The Museum's staff are very pleasant and helpful; there is also a cafe.

Each time I visit, I am struck by the quality of the special exhibits. Today was no exception. The Winslow Homer was outstanding. The African American photographs of Bullard were great. A lot to see.

The qualities of the floral displays are nonpareil! This January weekend is special from January 26 to January 29th. I visited the WAM today and was graciously admitted by Julieane K. Frost , Manager of Marketing to browse. Attendees seemed happy; the creativity of floral displays are as beautiful as a Master's oil on canvas!

I visited this museum for the Winslow Homer special exhibit. I planned the trip in the middle of the week so that parking would be plentiful and a lovely lunch in the cafe could be eaten. Surprise.... all the free parking was gone by the time I got there and the street parking and lot parking is limited to 2 hours. Next I bought my ticket and tried to have lunch only to find a very long line at the cafe. There were only three servers who were doing their best but had way too many tables to care for. So, I proceeded to the exhibit which was really well done but limited by the fact that it represented only the artist’s time in England. I returned to the lunch line again to find a really long line, and a real lack of efficiency in clearing tables and seating customers. I visited other galleries which again are limited in scope but what the museum has is quality artwork. I returned again to the cafe and decided to wait in line despite the obvious inefficiencies. Everyone else in line was feeling just as frustrated but took it in stride. The surprise was that once the meal was ordered, the food came quickly. Definitely a 3star day.

This is an incredible museum with such a large layout. We went during the installation where local florists pair floral arrangements with art. It was a little more expensive but completely worth it. The displays are rich in beauty and history. It's clean and the staff is friendly. The large foyer is a wonderful place to gather and talk about art and have some coffee. I highly recommend a day trip as there is so much to see.

Wonderful art collection in a easy to navigate building! Worcester Art Museum is lovely and classy, with an extensive collection of art from many parts of the world.

Surprised at the variety in this small, but hardly tiny, museum. Good cross selection of painting, ceramics and Roman mosaics plus Paul Revere silver. Nice special exhibits as well. Unusual chair design for resting while viewing.

First time here in a couple decades and it is easy to be impressed by the improvements and the additions. It's a medium-sized collection with some superb highlights... the mosaics, the American collection & a variety of Flemish/Dutch art that is quite impressive. Nicely curated, well-presented with a wide variety from Greek and Egyptian to contemporary. An afternoon well-spent.

This gorgeous art museum is right in the heart of Worcester and has a great variety of art exhibits (over 38,000 pieces), including Chinese art, American art, Indian art, Islamic art, and Japanese art. They also took the exhibits from the Higgins Armory Collection after the armory museum closed a few years ago. The museum isn't too big but still manages to showcase the artwork without feeling overwhelmingly stuffed, and the staff are very knowledgeable about all of the exhibits. The museum also offers free parking, and admission is free on the first Sunday of each month.

This museum has an amazing collection. We enjoyed a demonstration of knights armor that was informative and entertaining. Thank you WAM for a wonderful visit.

Pretty small museum, well taken care of, lots of employees on hand to answer questions, decent parking. Nice exhibits, but not impressive. Not a place to spend more than an hour.

I've visited this place fairly often, usually during Saturday mornings which are free on the first Saturday of month but also during special events such as Chinese New Year. There are plenty of cultural events and exhibits going on all the time and they often have opportunities for the whole family to get involved. Great for locals as well as people passing through.

The Worcester art museum is a hidden gem. If you haven been recently you need to go. I was very impressed and enjoyed my visit completely.

Fantastic place. the best. how could one resist? Convenient, culturally imperative, a MUST SEE, PLEASE>>>go and enjoy the ART. AND the HISTORY,

The Worcester Art Museum is a true gem. It is a medium-sized museum but has many important works of art. We learned that it was one of the first public museums in the US and, as a result, has many "firsts" for US museums. We took a docent tour which was terrific.
It's collection cannot be compared, in volume, to the MET or other large museums, but its collection is top-notch.

It’s not a huge museum, but it has a lot of very lovely pieces. The curation and display is excellent and the front desk staff is extremely enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We had a wonderful afternoon exploring. It looks like it has a lot of great features for kids too, so it definitely would be a good family destination. They have scheduled events too. We saw some re-enactors of the Duke of Burgundy’s troops c. 1475.

On a sunny day or a rainy day, the Worcester Art Museum is the perfect place to visit by yourself or with friends. Since our first visit on a sunny day in September when we saw all the inside exhibits and enjoyed the outside garden and sculptures, this wonderful art museum has been our top choice for taking guests who are visiting Worcester. Yesterday, with pouring rain outside, we enjoyed a beautiful day of art inside. There is much to see, but it is manageable. Parking is free and close by. The guards are friendly and very knowledgeable. There are supporting resources, such as video terminals, books for all ages, and art guides in the galleries. Even the benches and chairs are interesting! And don't miss lunch in the cafe; you will enjoy every morsel.

A unique collection of late 19th/early 20th century photographs is on view until the 25 of Feb. The photos are of an African/American and Native American community living in Worcester. Aside from the photos as images, many of them have been identified with families still residing in Worcester. These add to the texture of the city and connects the families with their ancestors, a unique experience.

Small museum but very nice for a morning or afternoon activity especially when hot or rainy and you want something to do inside.
It is a good starter museum for younger children since the size is not overwhelming. There is a cafe for snack (have not been, but good to know.)
Often have discount admission for special days and events. Free for this month (august 2016)

This place is a jem not to miss.
It has stunning inside architecture, real arts, and sculptures. There is medieval section with items from those times. Chinese statutes and vases. We did like that it had plenty of space to move around (for wheelchairs or strollers). There are kids-allowed-to-be touched areas, and try-on-stations.
There is outside courtyard with some arts and places to relax.
They also have nice cafe with great food (next to above courtyard). Try "Steamed Bao Bans", "Pear Mushroom Soup", completed by "Hazelnut Truffle" desert.
They have small free Parking area in the front of the building.

As a New Yorker who has lived in Boston for decades, I cannot believe I just got to the Worcester Art Museum. The collection is first-rate, the space very well designed, and the staff friendly and knowledgeable. It is worth a special trip. I will return with friends to share the experience.

The Worcester Art Museum has a nice collection of different types of art (paintings, sculpture, etc. It recently acquired the wonderful Higgins Armory Museum collection of midieval armored suits.

This is a wonderful with an excellent selection of artist and plenty of art work. We found it com and fairly priced.

I procrastinated seeing "Meow," but have now been there! My friend and I loved the exhibit and its curating. It includes a small exhibit of art with cats as focus, including some beautiful paintings and lithographs. Then, take a self-guided tour through the collection to locate cats in famous works, and finally visit the "cats in residence," three when I was there.
A clever presentation all the way around, and a great activity for families. Free admission in August. Leaves soon :(

Fairly expensive. Enjoyed visiting. Nice addition of the armor. IF given choice make the effort to see Boston. A one and done visit type of place

The many, varied activities and displays here make the Worcester At Museum a local gem. The staff is knowledgeable and welcoming. I just wish that I could spend more time there.

Many galleries, including a chapel. European and american art, collection of armor from all ove rthe world. The museum is always worth a visit.

Outstanding displays, easy to work your way around, and very accessible, more than anything in Boston.

Aside from their impressive collection of art for renowned artists of their time and current artists, they also offer art classes that help to expand and grow your own artistic talent.

Went with group of middle school art students. Had a wonderful and inspiring visit! Displays tied in with history coursework and art projects.

This museum has a great collection of Roman mosaics from a 20th century excavation in Antioch. Their Renaissance gallery floor contains the largest of the these, the Worcester Hunt. They have a good selection of other Classical Art works, particularly Roman statues. In the small Greek section it is mainly vases.
Also of note in the museum are the Asian art section with a wide representation of porcelain and scroll paintings.
Some sections are quite small, such as the Greek one mentioned above, the Egyptian collection and the Islamic collection (it shares a room with the Indian and South East Asian section. Their pre-Colombian section while small and comprehensive was affected by problems in lighting of the display cases.
Their painting collection covers the period from the Early Renaissance to the 21st century. While it does not have huge depth in terms of artists e.g. one Turner it does touch on most schools and periods. Be sure to use the removable guides in a few of the rooms as the paintings are not all labelled.
Very good cafe on site.
It is a 20 minute walk from the Union Station in Worcester.

If you are looking for a place to spend a relaxing day while in Worcester, this is the place to be - smaller than the MFA, and much easier to find a metered parking space than in the Fenway, opt for Worcester over the MFA for overall value

Good tour art is amazing. It was sad to see how they displayed the old Higgins museum armo but overall great time

Spent a lovely afternoon walking through the museum with my friend. I haven't been there is years. The exhibits were great. We ended up spending hours looking at everything. There is so much to see. Looking forward to going back. Well worth a visit.

Love the exhibits at the WAM! For a small museum, there are so many beautiful works of art! I've attended many events at the WAM since high school. They are wonderful! Also, I took many great courses! The cafe has delicious food. Great place to connect with art, people, creativity, and relaxation!
Visited many times over the years!

Had a wonderful time.Very interesting,so much to see.We spent 3 hours walking around. The medieval gallery was great, paintings were amazing. ...and free parking.

Couldn’t even see all the amazing things in one day. Definitely worth a visit. We spent hours and had a great time. So much variety.

With Fifty Centuries of art, you will find something for everyone. From Ancient Roman statues and Mosiac floors to 15th century European paintings and modern art, WAM has it all. Pre-Columbian Gold, Chinese Pottery, and art by Pollock, Warhol, Gaugan, Monet, Rembrandt, and more. They also have the second largest collection of Paul Revere Silver, the first self portrait painted in America, and an amazing collection of medieval armor and weapons. The first Saturday of the month is free and rotating exhibits keep the museum fresh and exciting. Great for all ages.

While on a roadtrip that took us through Massachusetts, stopped in Worcester to visit this well-known and respected art museum specifically to see their Monet and Whistler works! Impressive from the moment we walked into the Renaissance Court with its arches and grand staircase and the 2nd floor arcade! Their French medieval Chapter House is a must-see. The art collection ranges from BC times through contemporary today, with works by many major European and American artists as well as Asian, Egyptian, Roman, and Medieval antiquities, and Japanese prints. You will not be disappointed!!
** Thanks to Guest Services who quickly responded to my call when I accidentally booked my tickets for the wrong date!

We went to specifically see the medieval armor which the museum received a few years ago from the Armory. We also saw a talk on armor. However, the museum was very confusing to try to find things, particularly the conference room for the talk. There was a tiny but of armor on display - apparently its still a work in progress. We also had problems finding the main entrance.
The rest of the museum had some interesting items but we felt underwhelmed.

My husband and I got married here in August 2017 and we've gone back several times since then to take in the new exhibitions and artwork. It was an amazing venue and if you are looking to get married in a unique setting, this place is it! You can even open up the galleries for your guests to walk through during cocktail hour. The women who organize the weddings at this venue are dedicated, passionate and knowledgeable, as well as caring and you can tell just in speaking with them that they want your big day to be flawlessly special.
✤
The Worcester Art Museum is a phenomenal establishment that brings culture, art and history to the City of Worcester. It is a necessary institution that provides its visitors so much more than simply walking through galleries to look at paintings. The art on display is carefully curated, various programs throughout the year delve into different aspects of art, including one great program that asks local florists to create floral arrangements to interpret famous works of art.
✤
The MOSAIC on the floor of the main atrium was painstakingly transported and installed at the museum and bears some incredible history - seriously, read about it - and just to stand next to it and soak in the history, work and significance that it represents is pleasure enough for any visitor.
✤
And the small CHAPTER HOUSE is a testament to medieval architecture (originally from the Benedictine Priory of Saint John in west central France) aesthetically transports visitors who stands inside to medieval Europe.

There is a really nice collection of art and it's kid friendly too. I really enjoyed looking at all the children's art from the art classes there. Some of it was more impressive than the adult stuff to me. It's a good size to introduce kids to a variety of art without it being overwhelmingly huge.

Great place to visit, I could spend hours there. I love the cafe there as well. Great food and lovely atmosphere.

Beautiful place to venture to. Lots of surprising artifact. We visited during a special event. I was surprise how much the Art museum had to offer. The library has story time, also they have different workshop to attend from toddler to adult to senior, a lot to offer for all ages. Staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. Definitely can’t wait to go back.

Not to be missed are the excellent print and phtograph collections and now the armor collections formerly in the Higgins Armory.

This museum is a gem, with a great permanent collection strong across the range of Western art, from Medieval times into the 20th century. In each period it has some unusual, standout works, including a magnificent Spanish retablo, a major Andrea del Sarto, an unusually large and very fine Chardin, and much more--as well as the entire Chapter House from a French monastery. If you like art or if you want to like it, by all means visit.

This is one of the best small museums in New England. It's easy to get to, there's free parking nearby, and they have excellent special exhibits. Check out what's going on at the museum by going to their website.

9 Monets of London Bridge on exhibit now with iinformative explanations. I also loved the LaFarge room

The WAM collection covers American, European, Pre-Columbian, Ancient, Islamic, Chinese, Indian and other histories. Noted pieces by the MASTERS can be found. Special Events and select programs are common. Community offerings meet the needs of families and school-aged groups. One visit will lead you to "regular returns". WAM is a CITY treasure.

besides SMP's Sailshadestudios (see her .com). Right size to see most in a couple hours, including wonderful 15C portrait, and a robust American (SW) wing, 2nd Floor, as well as a sculpture garden abutting the cafe, featuring the 7' spherical piece by Pomodoro, a Milanese--where my daughter's husband sold sculpture for decades. Also recommend the Museum store as you enter, which includes the book Parodies Lost, with great SMP art and parodies honoring Tom Weiskel, Harold Bloom's favorite young colleague at Yale.

The WAM is considered one of the best small city art museums in the Western Hemisphere. The collection is extensive. Plan to spend some time here. There's a lot to take in.

I was so impressed by Worcester art museum. A lot of people are not aware of this fabulous museum. The collections are master pieces. The experience are way beyond my expectation. This is a hidden gem in the neighborhood. I no longer need to drive to Boston down town for amazing arts!

thoughtful layout and good collections. Also takes kids into account and has exhibits for them. Loved the one that highlighted a children's author and appreciate their armor collection and how it is displayed including interactive dimension for kids.

This is a wonderful gem of a museum -- quite small, yet full of impressive paintings and artifacts from many eras. I have lived in a Boston suburb almost all my life and had never heard about it. I was now pass the word along. We went with a 6 year old girl and she enjoyed it as well. It was her first visit to a major art museum and there were things for kids to enjoy. The staff was very helpful. I look forward to visiting again.

In recent years the WAM acquired the collection of armor which had been housed in the Higgins Armory Museum (also in Worcester). A friend and I made the journey to the WAM (three hours round trip) to see the armor collection in its new home, only to find that the vast majority of the objects are hidden in storage. This is very disappointing. There's plenty of room in the Renaissance Court for the collection - even as a temporary measure. Why not display it there? I hope that WAM will advertise when/if the armor collection is out for the public to see. Until then, I don't plan to visit the museum again.

I would leave this 10 stars if I could. Never heard of it before, but it was just fantastic. Art from all over the world, Asian, Chinese, Japanese, Buddhist, South American, Egyptian, American. There were paintings, murals, mosaics, pottery, statues. They also had a room with some very strange modern art which did not fit in with the rest of the place. You could spend all day here, but plan on at least 3 hours, it was that good. Nice gift shop as well, with a reasonably priced book about the museum, with photos of some of the art. It was $18, but if you have NARM or ROAM memberships with another museum, bring your card and you might get in for free.

The Worcester Art Museum is the perfect size museum for introducing novices to the glory of museums and the experienced visitor to the delight's of a beautifully maintained collection in a wonderfully maintained building. The standing collection is eclectic but sensibly charted. Special exhibits are always interesting and well-designed.
Free parking is ample, admission costs are low, there is a great cafe and, now that the core of the Higgin's armory collection is housed at WAM, even young children find something to love.

My friends and I took advantage of the WAM's free September Senior Wednesdays and docent tours and are so happy we did. Our hour long tour was led by a lovely, knowledgeable, and personable woman. Sandra taught us so much about the American artists and the beautiful paintings that we viewed. So many facts and details we would never have known.
After the tour we relaxed outside at the cafe and enjoyed a delicious lunch.
It was truly a lovely day at the museum.

Had never heard of it and didn't have high expectations, so was pleasantly surprised by the width and depth of their collection. They have a compelling Rembrandt, a wonderful Winslow Homer (almost hidden on the 4th floor), Monet, lots of Medieval art, mosaics from Antioch, Mayan sculptures, and they are FUN (got to try on a helmet!) $14 per adult. We went in the rear entrance and got to park right by the door! Score!

The Roman mosaics were very impressive. The museum had a special cat exhibit that attracted us, but it was not all we had hoped for. Many of the other exhibit halls seem overcrowded or had odd color choices on the walls, and there are few benches to sit on an take in the works.

The cafe here is great!!! the food is wonderful and fresh and the deserts are divine, eating in the museum is a great treat especially after walking around looking at great art

I took my daughter here ...and I've been to Boston ...NYC ...London ...
Worcester might have 4 Roman pots ...where the British Museum might have a room full of them ... Overall they had a real good selection ... different periods ...different cultures ... very good small museum ...
So great for kids ...as you can switch what they are looking at ...they also have a few things that you CAN touch ...swords ...helmet ...chain mail ...
Really liked the Chapel House room that you can go into ... Roman glass works and pottery ...they looked like something you might have dug up out of a 1900's garbage pit ... pretty modern. Also a modern art light show room ...
Parking is a little difficult ...street mostly ...which was fine ... area seemed safe enough ...did drive around a bit as buildings in that area all look the same.

For those who love the arts, while in Worcester make a stop at WAM. A wonderful way to spend an afternoon experiencing life outside the everyday world most of us live. A nice collection, a beautiful building and activities and programs for kids as well.

Worcester Art museum has so many gems worth seeing that many don't know about. They have also recently acquired the Higgins Armory Museum rare collections of armor and everything related to knights. The museum has beautiful Roman mosaics, and special collections from all over the world. The museum cafe is worth going to for lunch as well. Don't miss this wonderful museum in central Massachusetts, less than an hour from Boston.

This museum is a gem for central mass. It’s a great place for children and adults. The exhibits are excellent, especially with the addition of armor from Higgins museum. It is almost doable in a day. The docents are knowledgeable and helpful. Make time for lunch as the food in the cafe is excellent.

Love this museum as it is local and easy to get to there. Has free parking and an intimate setting. Great employees throughout our visit. Not as widely known as it deserves to be, the Worcester Art Museum (WAM) is a fine, encyclopedic museum, first opened in 1898, and well worth a detour for art lovers of all ages.

One of my favorite places to relax, enjoy and browse. Always something new to see and I love re-visiting my favorites. Don't miss a visit here.

This museum was much bigger than we anticipated. For this size of city, they had an impressive collection.

I was in Worcester for the day and had time for a casual tour. I was pleasantly surprised by the collection and was able to get some good inspiration for my own works (photography). This museum has a varied collection from modern to ancient. Although small it is accessible and easy to wander through. If you are in Worcester this worth the trip especially on the first Wednesday of the month.

Fantastic original mosaic floor in entry way. Depending on your interest in art, this ie either a 2 hour or 2 day museum. We spent 3 hours and found the art pieces fantastic, especially the original Egypt and other "old" art works. Worth the trip. By the way the town name is pronounced "Worster", why?--- I have no idea. As a Vet, wife and I got in free.

The museum is not huge - one can visit in fairly close detail in a day. One of the nice things about it is that there are a number of kid friendly spaces where kids are allowed to make noise, touch things, and do hands-on activities.

We attended the Winslow Homer art exhibit. The colors in these works were extraordinary, and some appeared to "jump" off the canvas. To me, they looked three dimensional. One would see a photo of people playing crochet and another one would be the wildness of the ocean. Spectacular exhibit.

Nice museum with limited exhibits. What's there is nice but a lot of exhibits are under renovation. Right now the exhibits are quite limited. Hopefully, when renovations are complete, more time can be spent enjoying the stuff!

I was looking for things to do in this city, and found this diamond in the rough. I was not expecting to be so impressed. The quality and the beauty of the art work was impressive. They had some very notable artist and atmosphere was delightful and calming. This was a beautiful way to spend our morning hours! My husband is not usually into museums but he was engaged and entertained for almost all of it. WOW.

Small museum with many treasures. Great permanent collection with master paintings. Armaments intermingled with art work. Hudson River School landscapes beautifully arranged. Parking across street.

This is one of the best museums in the country. The grand children (triplets) were studying ancient history and they learned a great deal from the ancient Egypt depictions of life. Then the paintings of the greats like Rembrandt etc, Raphael etc. the mosaic in the courtyard during medieval times. there is so much more that you have to experience it for yourself. The children were awed by the guide that help explain everything.

In the past twenty years I have visited WAM many times and it is a vibrant gem in Worcester.Their paintings are wonderful and I am especially drawn to their American Art including impressionistic Tarbell and Hassam. Many fine special exhibits as well,I am impressed each time.I have enjoyed a couple of art classes there.

We live in nyc but when we go Massachusetts we try to visit WAM.
The Roman mosaics are exceptionally beautiful, the armor is great and the art collection, while not enormous is excellent.
We’re big fans and highly recommend the museum.
By the way the cafe is also excellent.

This used to be a pretty good museum.I enjoyed visiting it about once a year, maybe more often with new visitors. However, with a new director in recent years the exhibits of the permanent collection are disappointing. Most notably the display of American paintings, including those by Winslow Homer. The room is very dark and some paintings are hung so high up that they are impossible to view. I am familiar with salon style displays, but the rooms are well lit and paintings can still be clearly viewed. NOT the case in this situation. Also, some of the special exhibits that have been promoted were a big to do about nothing. For one in particular I expected to see a room full of representative objects and there were perhaps 5. A waste of a trip. Museums are always worth visiting and this one does have some worthwhile art and artifacts, but the exhibits here were better before the change in management.

An unusually good city art museum, both in terms of variety and depth of collection. Many big-name European and American artists are represented, but they are not the real draw. There's much more. How nice it was to view works of art without crowds of other tourists!
We took about 2 hours and saw most of the museum. This was a weekday in November. Staff were friendly, and the cafe looked yummy - not inexpensive though. We parked in a municipal lot 2 blocks away, but there was street parking available as well.

Went to the Meow exhibit. They had a lot of impressively old and quality artwork. The Cat Walk was very novel and fun (had to walk around the entire museum trying to find cats in the artwork) though the signs in each room matched the wall paint color and were very hard to find. I wished they had more current art (Kiblan, Garfield, etc) and some photographs of cats. Overall, though, its a great museum and worth a visit for sure.

This was my first visit to this museum, although it has been on my to do list for years. The Meow exhibit gave us the impetus to go. We were a little disappointed with the exhibit, but were still happy we went. We wandered through the rest of the museum. I enjoyed the American arts salon . The impressionist rooms were closed on the day of our visit. The museum gift shop was very nice. I look forward to returning to this museum in the near future.

My wife and i recently went back to the Art Museum. It had been about 15 years since our last visit. WOW, i simply forgot about the beauty and the offerings of this GEM right in our own backyard. I personally am a history buff and thoroughly enjoy the historical artwork.

Did you know that there is FREE admission to the Worcester Art Museum on the first Saturday of the month? Neither did I ...... Now, we know! I went with a group and we had a wonderful time! You probably cannot see the entire museum in one visit, so pick a section and enjoy exploring and discovering. What a gem, right here in Worcester!

Top notch!! A must visit when in New England. Something for all ages. Classes, performances, and special events.

Although we had stopped in Worcester a few times, we had never visited the Art Museum. Although there was some renovation in progress, it was easy to get around and to find the collections we chose to look at. It is bigger than we expected, with significant collections, not just of American paintings, which is what we did expect to find. There are a couple of earlier Albert Bierstadt's to appreciate, for example. Chinese, Islamic art as well and some ancient sculpture. Of course, there is a fairly large collection of european art from most eras. The great surprise was that on the day after we were there, an opening of a show was scheduled for a painting WAM had had for a very long time about which there had been dispute, but now it seems there is close to certitude that it is a Da Vinci. They had also from the Louvre a companion painting by Da Vinci as well as another painting from the studio he worked at. We were able to peek into this room to see all three and to read some of the wall text. This was a most interesting part of our very happy visit. Oh, and by the way, we had a very nice lunch at the Museum Cafe.

Growing up in Worcester, every kid goes to WAM both with their schools and with their families, and there is definitely a reason. The Roman floor is incredible, and he galleries have gorgeous artwork, the type of sculptures and paintings you might expect to find in a big city, some from famous artists, some from unknowns, but all with an incredible level of talent. When Higgins Armory closed down, WAM received the armor it had had in its exhibit halls, and it is worth it to stop off at the museum just to see that. There are fascinating exhibits that rotate every few months, usually based on something related to the seasons. In the spring, they recreate famous works of art using flowers, which is truly a sight to behold. And come New Year's, WAM is the center of First Night celebrations.

I was truly impressed with my visit to the Worcester Art Museum. When I entered, the woman at the front desk gave me a lot of useful information and was exceptionally helpful. When you enter the museum, the first thing you see is a spectacular ancient mosaic on the floor. A grand staircase leads you up to the mezzanine which is adorned with magnificent arches. The museum has a lovely collection of art and antiquities from different periods and countries so you will have the pleasure of seeing works by Monet, Andy Warhol, Cezanne, James Peale, Van Gogh, Winslow Homer, Gauguin, and many more. There are multiple floors to explore at your leisure (the museum has elevators). One exhibit that I found particularly interesting was the area containing ancient battle armor. I loved the Renaissance room, as well as the area featuring antique furniture and tableware. I had no idea that such a collection existed in Worcester! The museum itself is a beautiful building - in fact, an employee said that they host weddings at the museum which seems like a gorgeous location for them. You really must visit to appreciate all this museum has to offer.

The museum has some of the best art in New England. For such a great museum, I found it very quiet and with limited visitors. What a shame for such a fine museum.

Interesting museum. Euro and USA centric with smaller samples of Asian and early Greco / Roman art. We spent about 3 hours to take in the majority of the collection. Worth a visit.

The Worcester Art Museum is like a treasure hunt. Not all of the treasures in this museum jump right out at you, you need to look for them. This is the type of small museum that is worth visiting over and over so you can build a relationship with the collections, find your favorites and discover new ones. And by the way don't miss out on a stop in the cafe. Great place for lunch with a friend!

If you are an art lover, this museum is worth visiting. Parking is free, admission is reasonable. The collection is high quality and features the Higgens Armory. This museum has something for all ages, and makes for a great trip. The museum is not very large, so you can reasonably go through all of it in 2 hours or less.

Some of the arts can be toched by the kids. My son loved the part that have the knights armor. I totally recomend, it is a nice experience.

Check out the history behind this museum! It was the first or one of the first art museums in New England. An impressive collection! Check out the armor from the old Higgins Armory, amazing!

We have been visiting the Worcester Art Museum (WAM) for many years. It's small and approachable, but with a collection that's worth seeing that includes work by American artists as well as that astonishing mosaic in the entry hall from ancient Europe. We enjoyed the exhibit concentrating on the development of photography, most of which comes from the museum's permanent collection. There is a wonderful collection of works by Paul Revere.

My husband and I visited the Worcester Art Museum in Worcester, Massachusetts on Sunday, May 26th, 2019. This was the first time that we visited this museum and we were very impressed with its great mixture of different types of high quality artwork addressing multiple subject areas such as history, culture, politics and architecture. The museum was well laid out with a comfortable, inviting atmosphere with seating in many of the galleries. Both the special and permanent exhibits were well curated, quite interesting, informative, and educational, providing a nice opportunity to learn about multiple subject areas, definitely worth the visit. All the write-ups throughout the museum, describing the items on display, were very informative and nicely done. The pieces of armor that were on display throughout the museum were nicely preserved and added a very unique touch.
Our experience at the museum was an interesting walk back through time and a very good lesson in history. It took us a little over two hours to see the museum based on the amount of time available to us this time, but we could have easily spent over 3 hours there to fully absorb and appreciate everything the museum had to offer.
We parked in a museum parking lot across the street from one of the museum’s entrances on Lancaster Street, which was both free and convenient.
The ‘Radiance Rediscovered: Stained Glass by Tiffany and La Farge’ exhibit featured beautiful stained glass from the American Gilded Age illustrating exquisite artistry and techniques, including Byzantine Design. This artwork reflected the spiritual and peaceful state of mind of the 1890s which was in contrast to the fast pace caused by the many new technologies, a flourishing economy and growing cities of the time. The artwork was both religious and reflective and helped to slow down the pace of life during the time period. This exhibit was nicely done.
The European Art Collection was quite extensive and comprehensive with interesting paintings across multiple time periods by such artists as Renoir, Gauguin, Camille Pissarro, Monet, Thomas Gainsborough and Rembrandt among many others. The painting of ‘Lady Warwick and Her Son’ by John Singer Sargent was quite exquisite. Some of the galleries were in Salon Style while others had detailed descriptions that were quite informative. The landscape paintings within the European Art galleries were beautiful.
The American Art Collection had many paintings, including paintings by Albert Bierstadt of Yosemite Falls and by many other artists, such as, George Inness, Childe Hassam, James Abbott McNeil Whistler, Winslow Homer, Thomas Cole and more. There was also a gallery with furniture, decorative arts, including Paul Revere silver, ceramics, glass and Earthenware. In addition, Native American California baskets were on exhibit. This was a very nice collection of artwork.
The Modern/Contemporary Art covered multiple subjects including Cultural Signs with objects and patterns reflecting social stereotypes. Andy Warhol’s generation of mages through the reproduction of other images was depicted. Revivals of Figuration and Portraiture and the Persistence of Abstraction were also subject areas that were covered. These galleries were quite interesting and unique.
The Pre-Columbian Collection had objects on view representing the creative achievements of diverse, indigenous cultures in the Western Hemisphere prior to the discovery of the New World in 1492. There were sections on Mesoamerican and Andean Region Cultures, such as Maya, Central American and South American. The Maya civilization, reflecting outstanding sculptors, architects, potters, stoneworkers and astronomers was nicely depicted.
The ‘Travels with Hiroshige’ exhibit illustrated beautiful landscape paintings by the print artist Hiroshige. The exhibit displayed a series of prints of Japan, many of which were based on popular travel guidebooks, using brilliant innovative techniques such as vertical format, overprinting and embossing. This was a very nicely done exhibit.
The Greek Art included pottery, and artwork depicting art and life from ancient Greek society from 3,000 – 100 B.C. Woman in ancient Greece were depicted, including Sappho. Sculpture and Greek Religion was also illustrated, including artifacts from votive offerings as well as small figurines. The exhibit showed the Greek influences on politics, art, philosophy, and architecture.
The Chinese Art included many pieces from multiple dynasties, including Qing, Yuen, Song, Jin, Tung and Yuan among others. The Japanese Ceramics included the unique Archaic Avant-Garde, a contemporary piece created by experimenting with ancient pottery techniques.
The Roman Art had historic significance and was quite interesting, including the Antioch Mosaic from a Roman House in Daphne. The Roman portraits, stone, bronze and coins were also quite unique.
Art from the Medieval World was very impressive with historic significance, including stone carvings, armor, and, the 12th Century French Chapter House from part of the Benedictine Priory of Saint John Le-Bas-Nueil, illustrating a very unique architecture. The Spoleto Frescoes Santa Maria inter Angelos overlooking Spoleto, Italy as well as the raw materials used in the medieval art also were quite interesting. The Medieval World was a very diverse and dynamic period from 500 – 1500, which laid the foundations of modern democracy and nation states, establishing the first universities and built the great Gothic cathedrals that still soar over European cities. This was nicely illustrated in the collection, which also included exhibits on knights, cultures in contact with other cultures and art in the home.
This museum has a lot to offer, much, much more than what is highlighted here. We recommend a visit to this museum and we hope that you have the opportunity to enjoy it as much as we did.

We weren't sure what to expect, but we were so.pleasantly surprised by this museum. Perfect size for a day trip...we were able to see everything in a couple of hours. This museum has a bit of everything- Matisse, Bonnard,Gaugin, Sargent, Pollock, Kandinsky and more! Worth a trip!

This is a lovely smallish museum in the center of Worcester. As soon as you enter, you see a large atrium with a
magnificent Roman mosaic on the floor. We saw a great special exhibit of Latin American/Spanish colonial art. We
then only had time for 1 or 2 other sections of the museum, so we visited the Pre-Columbian (Mayan, Aztec, etc.)
displays, and American 19th century painting. Both very good. The museum shop and the cafe both looked quite nice, too!

The permanent collections are outstanding and it’s got many lively and fascinating rotating exhibits. The classes are a boon to the community.

Worcester has one of the finest art museums of its size in the country. Period. The city should be very proud, especially now that the collection from the former Higgins Armory has been merged with the Art Museum. Visitors can see a complete range of works ranging from the ancient to the modern. Beautiful galleries and a stunning entry on the Salisbury Street side of the building. The gift shop is charming as well, with lots of great finds for holiday shopping.

This is a very nice art museum with a wide variety of exhibits. It was not overly crowded for a Saturday, and took about 3 hours to see everything. It is about a 3/4 mile walk from downtown Worcester. There was an interesting, special exhibit of Rembrandt's etchings. I really enjoyed Faith Ringgold's exhibit, if you like art that tells a story and mixed media. There is limited 20th century and modern art. I wished they had more. The major part of the collection is European 1500 - 1800 century. There is also a nice variety of Greek, Roman and Asian. Overall a very nice experience, and nice museum with interesting architecture.

Total elegance in venue, food and museum access.
Loved it, humbled by the experience
Total class and staff cooperated for surprise and elderly

This museum is a great find!! Amazing collection with lots of different areas. Loved the mosaics and archaeology collection but also has a good art collection with lots of well known names. Would def recommend.

The museum is centrally located and very nicely appointed. There's a lot to see and do here; from viewing many different art forms from different areas of the world, to a great dining experience and a lovely gift shop. The museum also offers classes at certain times of the year. This is a must-see if you're in the area.

I always enjoy visiting the Worcester Art Museum. They have an impressive permanent selection and now have the Higgins' armory collection, too. The special exhibits are well done.
The cafe is very good, too.

I'm a local and only recently started to visit WAM in the last few years. Now I find myself returning for their many interesting (and very well presented) temporary exhibits.
The permanent collection is pretty good. It's small enough to easily cover in one visit, but large enough to be diverse and have something for everyone. Their visiting Masterpieces have been quite a draw. Manet's Dead Toreador a couple years back is what drew me in, but the recent loan of Bonnard's Dining Room was just as good.
What I like most about visiting WAM is the visitor experience. Whomever is responsible for that has taken steps to integrate a theme throughout the museum. Along with the recent #MEOW cats exhibit, there was a handout which you could follow to find other cats in works amongst the permanent collection. It seems like a lot of thought goes into how to tie temporary with permanent and get the visitor to see other parts of the galleries.
There is a tiny gallery in amongst the armor collection that always has the most stunning photography exhibits. Usually they are of a somewhat shocking nature (violence in Syria, for example) but they always make me think and realize how lucky we are here not to have to live like that.
For kids, WAM has integrated Helmutt the Dog as a mascot throughout the galleries. I do not have children and have not paid too much attention to that, but it's a step I've seen here that I've not seen at many other museums.
Keep up the good work, WAM. I love to keep revisiting and seeing how you keep changing!

This is a family friendly museum that will also satisfy the highest expectations of art aficionados. The current "Meow" exhibit is great fun and the permanent collection covers a broad range of periods. The American painting gallery is particularly enjoyed by fans of Homer, Sargent, and their contemporaries.

Our visit to the Worcester Art Museum was a joy. We started out having lunch in their restaurant. The food was superior and the service was great. The museum is on several floors and has something for everyone. From the Masters to Contemporary Art to Art, just for fun. It has everything. Easy to get around with elevators, wide doors and wide aisles.

Wonderful venue for a wedding! The chapel was perfect for ceremony and you get (almost) free rein of the whole museum for guests to wander.

Nice medium sized art museum with interesting yard and special exhibits We went to a special cat themed exhibition which included a live cat encounter chamber with cat adoptions also a large local community cat art show with a lot of folk art elements I really enjoyed

WAM always has great shows, and they do special events too. Always lovely to visit-- and the public library offers some passes, if you are on a budget!

Please make this a must see during your time in Worcester. They have beautiful mosaics and unexpected masters. Very impressive and well maintained. There is something for everyone.

Lots of exciting art exhibits also an armoury.. The live cats exhibition was unusual... Staf very helpful and friendly

A wonderfully welcoming venue! Staff's engaging attitude serves as foundation for an enriching, exciting and enjoyable afternoon.

The folks at this museum were very helpful when I wished to donate my grandfather's history of his work in Worcester where he developed his first working production plant. He was actually the inventor of Shredded Wheat as well as other inventions in the cereal field and I felt his work needed to be preserved at the birthplace of his invention. It was an easy transition to move the boxes of memorabilia to this museum.

We spend several hours there and visit was well worthwhile and excellent value with good gift shop,.

I loved the European Masters, the mosaics, and the chapel in this museum. It's a beautiful place to spend a few hours, and it's not as overwhelming as larger museums like the NY Metropolitan or the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

We love the Worcester Art Museum and visit once or twice a year. It's convenient, free parking and has great exhibitions in addition to their regular collections. Today we saw the "Us Them We, Race Ethnicity Identity exhibition. It was excellent. Visually arresting and thought provoking. I live WAM, it's never crowded, the docents and staff are super pleasant and they have a small but very nice store.

We went to see the Winslow Homer exhibit before it closed. It was wonderful! But the wonder did not end there. WAM is truly a treasure. The exhibit halls are properly lighted and seating is available in most to provide rest and a place to enjoy the amazing collection. We inadvertently went on a free admission day so it was quite busy, but still enjoyable.

Excellent museum, a beautiful space with both traditional and modern architecture
The collections encompass all aspects of art history.

Don’t sleep on the WAM, the new Arms and Armor exhibit was one of a kind. The museum also has a diverse collection of art pieces and artifacts. The large European art collection is a personal favorite.

A regional gem in the center of Massachusetts. Varied collection of art and artifacts, but the creme de la creme is their acquisition of the superb collection of medieval armor from the Higgins Armory which closed several years ago (supposedly the second largest in the country). They have a mandate to display the entire collection by 2023 in a newly renovated former library area, so pay attention if you are interested in seeing this truly fabulous look into the past.

Never knew this Museum existed! It was a pleasure to find. Many people to answer your questions! A hidden treasure.

Came here on a weekend and found so many interesting pieces a someone who doesn't have much knowledge about art! surprised and glad to find works from famously artist that is so well known

I ended up going to the museum on a whim and it was amazing. It has a lot of great collections and is organized in a very effective way. I worked my way from the top down and was able to see a lot that way. This is one of the better museums I have seen in quite a while.

In 1898 Worcester Art Museum opened its doors to the public. It contains an outstanding collection of nearly 40,000 objects spanning 50 centuries of art. The Museum is 4 floors and contains displays ancient Roman mosaics, medieval architecture, Asian sculptures, European and American paintings, prints, drawing s n photography as well as contemporary art. You can take the elevator or stairs to view the exhibits. The Worcester Art Museum is a must see visit if your in Worcester. During August 2016 admission is free.

This is a small gem of a museum.
Great mosaic in entry hallway.
Disappointing display of old Higgins armory collection- seems cramped in current location.

I recently visited the WAM for the first time and was very impressed by their collection. We went on Star Wars day so there were a lot of people but the galleries were not crowded at all and were actually quite peaceful. My wife and I spent an hour viewing the collection of paintings, statuary, armor, et al. The staff were attentive and friendly throughout. We will be back soon!

This is a great museum near downtown Worcester with plenty of parking across the street from the museum. I grew up in Worcester and went to the museum many times to see the wonderful pieces of art, artifacts and special exhibits that they bring in frequently. They have a great little shop with wonderful gifts for any age and books to aide in art being introduced to children.

I have not visited in decades but returned to the wonderful collection. The new director's reimagining of some of the galleries is brilliant. Paintings rehung and grouped without labels next to each one. You need to see it to understand.
Cafe also good.

A beautiful little art museum with an excellent selection of art, and medieval armors. Well worth visiting as they often have special exhibits every so often

Big museum with lots of different exhibits. The fee was only 16.00 pp and it seemed extremely reasonable.

We went to the special event cat show. It was great art and a special event with multiple bars throughout the museum.
There were interesting performances and special characters roaming around as TV and movie look a-likes.

Love going. Parking isn't bad if you go when there isn't a school vacation. They have a cafeteria, little pricey. But if you want a place to go for the quiet and peace. This is the place.

WAM has awesome programs for kids. Their collection of art is also awesome and you can't miss their cafe. Stop by for an awesome lunch surrounded by art.

While in Worcester for a wedding, my husband and I had a free day to explore. We decided to check out the Worcester Art Museum, as it was a short drive from the hotel and seemed to be well reviewed. As someone who loves art, I was blown away by the sheer number and variety of pieces contained therein! I did not expect to see nearly as much ancient art as was on display, as it isn't normally so accessible and well preserved. The space was not crowded at all, so I was able to take my time exploring the many halls and study pieces that piqued my interest. I was very grateful that one of the curators, after seeing me examine a Rembrandt at length, came over and told me so much about the piece. He also pointed me in the direction of other paintings that may hold my interest (and he was totally right).
If you have a few hours and a love of fine art, this is a wonderful place in which to spend an afternoon. I would be so pleased to return to such a fine collection for another visit!

I really like this museum very much, so much in fact that my husband & I decided to buy a membership for last year. We tried to attend a couple of programs we were interested in & couldn't find parking either time. When we just went on a regular Saturday, we also had difficulty getting a parking space. We ended up only using our membership once & felt it just wasn't worth the cost. Needless to say I didn't renew.

I visited on a Friday afternoon in June and practically had the museum to myself. I started at the bottom and worked my way up to the top. I loved the antiquities - how did this museum get all of these things?! Loved it!

I really enjoyed this cosy museum. The special exhibition of stained glass by Tiffany and La Farge was really lovely. Their standard collection is varied and interesting, featuring everything from early American art to the Dutch masters and even a vibrant contemporary exhibition. I really loved it.

Pleasant exhibit all about cats. Egyptian, Chinese, Japanese, European, etc. they are glorified in all works of art. Even some real ones that can be adopted.

Was very impressed with my visit to Worcester Art Museum. When I visited in Aug of 2016, it was free for Worcester residents. That certainly made my day.
I absolutely love art and everything to do with it, in all forms and mediums. This art museum has everything I could have hoped for, and more. It definitely kept me busy for the afternoon.
I will visit again soon!

After 18 months of virtual museum visits I have finally made a real trip to the museum where I spent four hours. It is funny how I travel all over the world and miss out on spectacular treasures in my own neck of the woods.
So today I ventured to the Worcester Museum of Fine Arts (40 minutes drive from my house) and enjoyed its fantastic collection of paintings, antiquities and decorative art. The museum owns phenomenal El Greco’s “Mary Magdalene”, Claude Monet’s “Waterloo Bridge” and yet another version of his “Lilies”, this time in pale pink, stunning “Golfe Juan” by Paul Signac, Gauguin’s “Brooding Woman”... just to name a few...
Some of the most remarkable treasures of this fantastic museum are its huge mosaics from Antioch (the lost ancient city) and its meticulously rebuilt 12th century Chapter House of the Benedictine Priory of Saint John at Le Bas-Nueil.
Also, I was lucky to see two very interesting exhibitions: “The Art of Kimono” and “What the Nazis Stole from Richard Neumann”. The latter presents 14 paintings and sculptures from the once extensive art collection of Dr. Richard Neumann. They were regained by Dr.Neumann’s family after 75 years of tireless efforts to get them back.

The museum has some top-notch European and American art. We saw pieces by Gilbert Stuart, Cassat, John Singer Sargent, Bierstadt, and Hogarth, to name a few. Some of the newly arranged galleries were very well assembled. There are also some large-scale Roman mosaics, and a fair-sized Asian collection.

Museums are life - the art museum membership is nothing and the benefits are worth every penny - if you have small kids there are art carts available and discounts on programs - - a jewel

When most people think of art museums, they think of the ones in big cities like Boston. But this is a museum that's worth a trip to central Massachusetts (about 45 minutes drive). I'm a member, and I come here often. For a mid-sized museum, it's quite spacious and it's a peaceful place for study (many art students spend time here), as well as a pleasant way to spend several hours. The Worcester Art Museum has some very interesting collections, including rooms featuring Asian art, ancient Roman art, American decorative art, impressionism, modern art, etc. And with the addition of artifacts (including suits of armor and medieval weapons) from the now-closed Higgins Armory Museum, there is plenty to see for people of all ages.
Not only will you find five floors of paintings, photographs, jewelry, rare historical items, and various kinds of sculpture, but the museum also has a very good restaurant. And the Worcester Art Museum has staff who are both knowledgeable and courteous. In addition to the various exhibits, the museum offers gallery talks and special events (recently there was a well-received exhibit about citizenship, with photographs, prints and paintings depicting immigrants in the American experience). There are also art classes at a very reasonable cost. On busy days (like during special exhibits), parking can be a problem-- there is some on-street and several small lots, but these all fill up quickly. Still, this is a small inconvenience. If you come to the Worcester Art Museum, I am certain you will be both surprised and impressed with all that it has to offer. I find something new to enjoy every time I go.

Checked out the Poetry of Landscape show. Being of the Northeast it was especially rewarding to see the landscape I now being jprotraded by notable artists. Not a huge show but it does the job. The few stained glass windows make you appreciate that art whereas you might pay attention to it normally. The modern and contemporary gallerys are a must to hit.

Beautiful, fascinated i will come back. To show my families and friends. An impressive collection of the armor from the old H.A, awesome.
Plus the coffee even better... :)

As a whole, I very much liked the museum. The staff was friendly and the museum was easy to navigate. We went to see the exhibit "Meow". The exhibit itself made me sad. Poor cats were hiding from over stimulation. However, the museum had Cat themed paintings throughout. They did a good job incorporating the cat theme into most exhibits. I liked the armor collection. Even had Batman, after all that was armor too. Impressive collection that they were able to take over from the John Woodman Higgins museum when that museum had to close their doors. The Late Roman Hunting Scene mosaic floor from the early 6th century A.D. was captivating. Sure beats carpets as an accent piece. My favorite had to be the The Last Judgment Tapestry, from about 1505. Originally woven in Belgium, it has recently been restored and is once again on exhibit. In order to restore it, it was flown back to Belgium and underwent a massive restoration process where water was dripped onto it slowly so the threads wouldn't be destroyed. The museum offers docent led tours that is included in the admission price.

Worcester art miseum is a great way to relax and look a some very historical items. They have a complete section of ancient armor which really was interesting. I went in December so I was able to see the Salisbury Singers perform Christmas Carols which was a nice treat.

I was lucky enough to go to the Worcester Art museum on a first Saturday of the month and to our surprise our admission was free before noon! Not sure if this is something that is continuous so it is worth asking about.
I really liked this museum there is a plethora of exhibits and beautiful works of art here. We went to see the Knights exhibit and were not disappointed.
Definitely a nice place to spend a day.
There is an area that children can take art classes as well as a café to make it an official full day activity.

This is a great museum. We enjoyed our first visit. We will be back to see more of it. A lot of hidden treasures here and well informed guides!

Spent a very grey, wet morning there - and what a superb museum this is. Just a little taster about everything historical or artistic. Well laid out, good explanations. The pre-Columbian room of Mexican and Peruvian artifacts and the Japanese exhibition were for me the most interesting, while my friends enjoyed the Monet's and modern American paintings.

Beautiful two special exhibits and the permanent exhibits are top rate. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. We went on a Sunday in the Winter, it was busy but not overwhelmed. Great to see many families with children, in fact all ages. And parking is free!

There were so many wonderful surprises in this small museum, from the Tiffany and La Farge glass to the Pre- Colombian gold. We loved the collection of European art and the many amazing pieces of armor interspersed throughout. Staff was friendly and welcoming. The gift shop was small but creatively stocked. Definitely worth a return visit.

Only two Leonardo DaVinci paintings are in the collections of museums that are open to the public. Once in Washington DC and one in Worcester, MA! Right now (Summer, 2018) there is a special exhibit of the Worcester DaVinci, alongside another on loan from the Louvre. This is not to be missed.
The rest of the collection, while not as large as many other museums is quite fine, including works by Cassatt, Hicks, Peale, Stuart, Durer, Gainsborough, etc.... Their Roman Hunting scene mosaic in the Grand Hall is very impressive and provides an excellent focal point to the museum. Their recent acquisition of the almost the entire Higgins Armory Collection means that it has a wonderful collection of arms and armor throughout the entire museum.
We've spent many days here, eaten at the restaurant, and taken classes here. It's a fine place to visit when in the area.

Catch the exhibit with Tiffany and LaFarge stained glass!
Also enjoyed the new exhibit on Hudson River painters.

Surprisingly good collection of art from all over the world. I would definitely recommend this museum and hope to go again.

Nice to see some of the Higgins armory items have a new home. Really enjoyed the extensive European art section. They have a couple Monets and Rembrandt pieces there.
The roman mosaic on the floor was massive and the history behind it interesting. They've got busts of the two evil roman emperors Caligula and Nero. Very cool.

I love the museum. I've taken painting classes at their art school. Sue Dion is a great painting teacher.

The WAM always seems to punch above its weight. An example ... "Photo Revolution:
Andy Warhol to Cindy Sherman" was very well attended when we were there. Probably because the show has been given good reviews, and we attended on the 1st Sunday of the month, with free admission. It was excellent: a fine mixture of art and photography. Overall the museum has lots of surprisingly good artifacts, and good events. Recently they've featured a variety of very creative Christmas trees. Flora in Winter is coming soon. They have a strong educational program as well. Recommended.

I just went to see the Cyanotype Exhibit for the third time--it just gets better. The details about the process, the new and old cyanotypes, and the arrangement of the exhibit are all spectacular.
This Museum has really upped it's game.

We took the kids to the WAM over February vacation and would encourage other visitors to attend. With April vacation coming up in MA, it might be the perfect visit for your family.
We spent about 2 hours during out visit and could have spent more time, but also felt like we spent a good enough amount of time checking it out. What I liked the most is that they have a large variety of art types -- from other places across the world (Greece, Europe, Africa, the Americas) as well as time periods (ancient, medieval, contemporary). But the collection isn't so large as to be overwhelming or for you to lose interest. The accompanying descriptions are easy to read and follow along. There are docents providing tours if you would like additional information as you peruse the galleries.
The coolest thing to see might be the reconstructed medieval chapel near the mosaic tiled atrium. Our teens even enjoyed this museum.
I also appreciated the focus on African-American history. The Colonial America collection has intentionally been modified to address and pay attention to history from the perspective of African-Americans, not just the white, wealthy colonists portrayed in most of the paintings. It is an important update to be more inclusive and honest about our country's history.
Parking is easily located across the street near the Lutheran Church on Lancaster Street.

What an impressive collection of art in Central MA. The museum offers a variety of mostly paintings, beautifully displayed with informative signs. There are grand views of massive paintings, mosaic tiles, photographs and more. From medieval to modern, there is something for everyone in this museum including interactive exhibits for the kids and the young at heart. We went on the first Sunday of the month which is free. What a bargain and even found free parking in front of the museum. All of this was unexpected! There is a one hour plus docent lead tour every Sunday at 1pm. We enjoyed the pace and quality of the information given. While the group on our tour was large, the docents managed to engage a variety of age groups with different levels of knowledge.
They have some of the armor on exhibit and will offer a major collection by 2020. In the meantime, there is plenty to discover and enjoy including some of the select pieces of armory. Ample sitting area, a fun gift shop, and very small cafe are added conveniences in the museum.

ok this may be smaller than a lot of more famous museums but what a fantastic collection! they have an amazing mural inside the museum that is breathtakingly strange. i really like the space and staff a lot. friendly and knowledgable and often times the parking is free!

This is a very good regional museum but not a top tier museum. So, set your expectations accordingly. The facility is easy to find off of I 290 and is perhaps five minutes (on a Saturday) from the exit. There is a small parking lot available but the operative word is small. We street-parked about a block away for free.
The staff was very pleasant and very helpful. The collection is very diverse. Some of the objects are outstanding. For example, the armour materials from the recently closed Higgins collection, the Last Judgement tapestry, and the spectacular mosaic hunting scene from ancient Antioch are all outstanding. The paintings range from Frans Hal to Breughel to El Greco. A solid selection. The Meow Exhibit is a clever and fun exhibit, especially good for cat lovers and children. This exhibit includes live felines. Entrance is free in August. The cafe was pleasant and the food admirable.

If you are very much into landscapes or have an affinity to stained glass, WAM is the place to be! It would have to be a very special kind of child not to be bored here. As an adult, I felt a sense of escape when I found the sunlit courtyard and waited for my friend who loves landscapes. The tour guides were very informative and I did learn more than I wanted to ---about landscapes. I found the photography exhibit in the cafe engaging as well as the murals on the walls in the lobby.

Killing time in Worcester we decided to take a few hours to explore the Worcester Museum with a particular interest in seeing the armor exhibits that the museum had recently acquired.
The museum has a little. It if everything you might want to see, with a particularly strong exhibit of impressionists on this visit.
In terms of variety, they had a wonder Kandinsky and several Monets a fun Brueghel (or from his studio anyway) plus old armor and guns scattered throughout almost all exhibits. Great fun!

This museum has a nice eclectic collection. The entry fee is somewhat steep for a museum of this size, but the beaux art building and battle armor collection is quite nice. Give yourself at least an hour or two to explore.

The current Monet exhibit is wonderful, including a hands-on display which allows you to create your own Monet! Other exhibits are fascinating, including the largest mosaic floor from the Middle East in the USA.

Attended a wedding reception here. Unique venue for the area without travelling all the way into Boston.

I was a student in Worcester, and the WAM offers free admission to college students which was amazing! I loved going there because it is all stone, with different art forms everywhere! They have a wonderful cafe that looks out to their green area which was really quite good. The parking is a little bit of a pain but doable. You are surprised how magnificent and gorgeous the inside is. When I was last there, I was able to see the setting for a scene in American Hustler that was shot inside the museum. It is the round area in the middle with the awesome looking mosaic! So I felt pretty cool. They have amazing exhibits there too! I love the WAM and if you use your WOO card you get points to free stuff!

This gem is right in the central Massachusetts city of Worcester. Easy access from the interstate with a fair amount of onsite and nearby parking. Couple this with it being completely free the first Sunday of each month. Very neat permanent collections. I went during a period where thought-provoking photographic art was on display. This is a highly recommended trip for any and all combinations of humans with an interest. Again if you were to only ever go once then make it a first Sunday of the month. Arrive early enough and you will park right next to the front door.

This museum has a great collection of both American and European art (including some great French impressionists). There is also a incredible tile floor from the Roman era and that alone is worth a visit. Please to spend a couple of hours.

I went to the museum to see the Winslow Homer exhibit which is excellent. But I also took the time to see their permanent collection and there are some outstanding works that the best known museums in the world would love to have in their collections. The museum is not a fancy place. Very low key vibe. But worth going well out of one's way to see it.

I enjoy browsing around on a rainy day. It's a small museum and it's the cure for Worcester culture without having to drive to Boston.

I love this place. Some of my favorite works of art are here. It's large enough to spend a snowy day but not so large that it would take more than one day. There is a very nice cafe for lunch. The menu isn't extensive but it's nice and you can have a glass of wine. I always visit the gift shop. I love the umbrellas. I take friends and family to the museum when they visit me.

The museum itself is absolutely gorgeous. I did not expect this considering the town of Worcester. It's in the nicer part of town (architecture-wise) and near WPI (Worcester Polytechnic Institute). We didn't actually go for the art - though we saw a lot of the pieces and exhibits on the way to our exhibit.
We went for the "Meow" exhibit which showcased various paintings and art pieces of cats and other felines. In addition they had a main attraction called the "Kitty City" where there were live cats to pet and play with! Super fun and definitely a good time for kids and families. (Big kids, too.)

The Worcester Art Museum has a pretty good permanent collection, but the inventive curators ensure that it is well worth a visit. The current Meow show, featuring cat art and "cats in residence", is thoroughly enjoyable.

We meandered through the cat exhibit, what fun! Nice photos, art work, from all age groups and artistic capabilities. This museum has thought of everything, lighting, restrooms, staffing, etc. It is a charming place to spend some time, for a reasonable entrance fee!

We enjoyed a visit to the museum during the free month of August. It wasn't busy, we were able to see some classic exhibits that are always there and some new exhibits as well.

Great venue, well coordinated, totally high class, great flow for larger crowd. Handled caterer, band, bars, props, etc. exceptionally well. Museum coordinator was magnificent. Fun time. Lots of places to wonder. Very educational while having a large party. Highly recommended. Thank you.

Each trip is a new adventure. The museum is so organized and there are many people to guide you. Perfect way to spend a rainy day!

The Worcester Art Museum has a great mix of art and has something for everyone. We visited hoping to see much of the armor from the Higgins Armory, now closed, but there wasn't as much as we'd hoped. Still, there was a lot of art on display from all historical periods, from 2500 years ago to modern. We enjoyed the tile mosaic from Antioch and the Chapter House from France, rebuilt at the museum in the 1930's brick by brick. Every room has something to catch your eye, and it's certainly worth a visit!

While my daughter took in a class after our lunch at the cafe, I wandered through the galleries, admiring the pieces I recalled, finding new angles to examine the collection, and stopped in at the library to find a family friends' collection. All staff helpful, courteous, and engaging.

Went to the Tiffany/LaFarge exhibit. Rather small, but we expected that. One window had a sign that said that when they were restoring there was one section too far gone to be restored, so a new panel was created. However, the sign did not tell you where the replaced portion was. A docent in the room had no clue. Note to the museum, you need to do a better job with your signs and to train the docents.

Exceptional museum for it size and city.
It is by far the jewel of Worcester and New England.
It includes artifacts from Ancient Greece and Persia, Roman to Van Goug and Gogain and otherFrench Impressionists.

Not a small collection, but not enormous or exhausting. Lots of surprises and representative works across different periods and cultures. The galleries where the pictures are arranged in clusters so that you can see the art without being distracted by the identifying cards are curated very intelligently.

At WAM they have an eclectic mix of art work. Everyone should be able to find something they like. It is a big enough place that one could spend several hours there enjoying the art. Yet it is small enough so one does not get overwhelmed. The staff is friendly and helpful.

We can spend a whole day here. You get lost in it's beauty and treasures. Very interesting and great variety of VERY famous artists. Monet, Renoir, Benson, even Paul Revere..........

If you are looking for a family friendly, intellectually satisfying SMALL museum, WAM will fulfill your needs. It has a nice collection and hosts some great contemporary photograph and art shows.

I grew up in Worcester and have visited the museum all my life. Now that I live in Europe, my visits are far between, so it was nostalgia and the hope of seeing something new that I made my recent visit.
The building itself never ceases to disappoint. The Renaissance Court is one of the loveliest spaces in America. It is used for weddings, concerts, receptions and other events and is one of those places that makes the people visiting it feel special.
While there are rooms with Asian and Oriental art, the museum has a solid collection of Old Masters, and exceptional collections of Impressionists and American paintings. It has FIVE 17th century paintings in the latter category, which is remarkable.
A medieval French Chapter House delivers an unexpected treat for New Englanders not used to Gothic stone buildings, and it's a wonderful place to sit an absorb the atmosphere.
Well informed docents can answer many questions and explain how and why painting are grouped. There are good galleries for special exhibitions and a library that is open to the public.
The museum cafe is a destination for locals and offers good soups, sandwiches and desserts. In the warmer months, you can eat outside.
It is a place I never tire of visiting and while many of the paintings are old friends, there is always something new to be seen.

I live in the area so I've gone many times to this museum and my kid took a number of art classes over the years which were SO SO GOOD! This museum is beautiful and they do a really good job of bringing in interesting special exhibits. It's not huge but has just enough for a couple hours of strolling and viewing.

WAM has a wide ranging collection, though disappointingly 'PC'. The religious significance of artifacts is greatly underplayed. Also not thrilled with their display of the Higgins Armor collection. They now do it by 'style' instead of date. It is hard to follow the development of armor using this method of displace. Their top floor collection of Early American Antiques is not to be missed. Worth the climb. Love the FREE Saturday morning admission.

Awesome! Been coming here for years. It’s a fantastic mix of art from around the world and ages from ancient artifacts, to fine art, to modern / contemporary art from today (at the top floor). They do move things around depending on what special exhibits they have. My favorite painting ever is here (Ellsworth Kelly “Orange White”). Shoutout to the new Higgins Armory area too!
Tip: check the website for events. They have SO many amazing (usually free) events to celebrate our diverse community.

I had the privilege of chaperoning a 6th grade field trip to this museum and will be back on my own time to explore. The staff is super knowledgeable and fun to listen to. They take great pride in their exhibits and museum. The place is a maze of room after room of art and artifacts and is immaculate.
So much to see that we barely scratched the surface. Parking was free and it was super easy to get to off of 290 and exit 18 in Worcester.

One of the best museums I've been to! The entrance gives such an immersion to the art viewing experience. My partner was particularly interested in the medieval armors and weapons given we're big fans of medieval RPGs. Very classy paintings upstairs as well. My particular favorite was the "In the Mirror." Some museums look generic in some areas, but not this one. There are different styles by different painters in each section. I think the area that I didn't like the most was the "modern" section.

This is a gem of Worcester! The armory had to incorporate its works at WAM, so there is still a chance to see these and the art collection is well curated

A nice afternoon with the wife. Nice way to spend time with someone. Good exhibits. Not an art guy but the museum itself is a good one.

Worcester may be only the second largest city in New England, but its museum is world class. Fabulous collection, well displayed in a marvelous rambling building. Friendly helpful staff and a very nice gift shop.

Aside from the current oddball cat spotting theme to tempt further visitors, this museum punches well above its weight in securing the display of an exciting and eclectic series of exhibits and collections.
Extensive collections cover the ages and continents, with Italian and Flemish particularly outstanding. Don't forget the fine American exhibits on the top floor.
And do lunch at the cafe - light and airy, with a refreshing menu.

And I happened to be standing right in front of them! There they were – two marble portrait busts side by side in the Roman Gallery of the Worcester Art Museum. It was quite an unexpected sighting, and even more compelling since I was the only person in the room at that time.
I next stopped by the small, but stunning, show "Monet’s Waterloo Bridge: Vision and Process." There are forty-one known versions of this London landmark which the artist painted from his room at the Savoy Hotel; this display grouped the WAM’s 1903 painting with eight others borrowed from US museums. To see the variations of light and color from one painting to the next gave me a new appreciation of Monet’s work. This show closed in April.
Another room features the special exhibit "Radiance Rediscovered: Stained Glass by Tiffany and La Farge" which runs through Dec. 1, 2019. These beautiful windows, originally situated in Boston’s Mount Vernon Congregational Church, were donated to WAM in 1975 when the congregation merged with another church and closed the building. This is the first time in over 40 years that these windows are on view; the show includes a sampling of other works from both artists. La Farge’s "Peacock Window" that he labored over for several years is particularly impressive.
Finally, I always like to spend some time in the WAM’s permanent collection. In the galleries displaying European art, a special touch is seeing suits of armor interspersed among the paintings.
If you visit, I recommend having lunch at the Museum café. Open Wednesday to Saturday from 11am – 3pm, it’s a pleasant place to spend some time; a children’s menu is also available.

We took in the Hudson River School paintings exhibition in one if its final days, and it was great. It also afforded the opportunity to re-visit this wonderful art museum. The WAM tends to get eclipsed by offerings in Boston, but is well worth a drive. The impressive floor mosaic in the museum entry will delight, and alone is reason for Roman history aficionados to visit. Nearby is a complete Benedictine Chapter House, a transplanted medieval masterpiece from central France. There are many other offerings in this compact but delightful museum. Highly recommended! 👍

This distinguished museum houses many world famous works of art, in a lovely, calming setting. There is always an inventive and illuminating exhibition going on as well. It's a wonderful way to spend an afternoon-- and make sure to have lunch at its charming cafe!

Lovely. Very welcoming. Terrific collection of both artistic and historical interest. Family and school-group friendly. Best small art museum anywhere!

The WAM is a great place to escape to and feel cultured and educated. Whether you stay for an hour or the whole day, you're sure to be wowed by the many exhibits. Children and families will enjoy countless sculptures, paintings, lithographs and artifacts. Stroller friendly too. Cafe on premises.

Its a really good museum in Worcester, and if you show your WPI Student's ID card, you can go for free

It needs some help. The material was disorganized. We could not find the works we were looking for and several employees did not have the answers. We realize the world of museums is just reopening ,and most of the employees were friendly, but not all of them were knowledgeable about their place of employment.

This museum has a wonderful variety of exhibits. There are the old favorites but also always something new and interesting. Extra added treat free admission during the month of August!!

For some time now, the W.A.M. has opened its majestic halls to the public with August as free admission month. This has served as an excellent opportunity to dive deep within the colors of Worcester's most undervalued and underappreciated cultural asset in the city. Everything ranging from its recent acquisitions to more-permanent fixtures, the W.A.M. is a MUST-SEE when visiting Worcester.

When I lived in Cambridge, MA in the 1960's I would travel to Worcester just to visit the Worcester Art Museum. I never get tired of visiting the galleries and viewing the new exhibits. This museum has it all! A great place for lunch as well. An other bonus is free parking next to the museum!!

The collection features a few gems from most periods. Since the late 1800s, the museum has been a fore runner in spotting important new artists. They acquired the first Monet (Waterlilies) and the first Gaugin (Brooding Woman) in the United States. They recently acquired a spectacular collection of arms and armor. Also, Revere silver, Roman mosaics, a French Medieval chapter house, etc. Take a docent-led tour if you can.

WOW! Who knew Worcester had such a great museum. Sure, it's small but the art work is terrific. Not to be missed.

There are 4 floors in the museum. Not really kid friendly. We visited with 4 adults. Senior rate didn't start until 62. Mostly has to use the stairs. Elevators not in great spots. Art was interesting. Different rooms for different periods. Parking is difficult. We had to park on the street.

The wonderful exhibit on Impressionism unfortunately ends on 6/25 but the exhibit on Unboxed Watercolors will be there for a while. The permanent collection is also impressive. Parking off Lancaster St is easy. But note that their Cafe is not operational.

Went here on a Saturday afternoon to view the special showing of the paintings by Winslow Homer. A fabulous show. The paintings are displayed beautifully with ample room for easily viewing. Each painting has a write-up which provides details that expand your understanding of what you are viewing. While we were there they had a special presentation in the second floor conference giving the history of some of the armor the museum has procured from the Higgins Amory. A wonderful surprise. The presentation and enactment gave the audience members a view of what it was like to engage in combat wearing such protective coverings. Very entertaining as well as informative.

Stopped in while in town and was surprised by the gallery depth and variety. Nice atmosphere, great programs for kids, and good selection of noted artists.

The Worcester art museum has a decent size collection comparable in quality to larger city museums, but, without the crowds. There are some major pieces here, an excellent collection of early american furniture, and, in the entrance, an unbelievable mosaic from ancient Antioch.

One of the best small museums I've visited...and it's local! Great Egyptian and Roman sections; Beautiful early Renaissance paintings! Artifacts are delightful! Cafe available for lighter fare and an impressive gift shop with affordable as well as dear prices. Definitely worth a visit for both young and old!!!

We stopped in Worcester on the way back from Maine and spent some time at this museum. It’s a large and well-organized collection and we’re glad we took the time to view it. We especially liked the exhibition on Tiffany and LaFarge stained glass

We had a few hours in Worcester and this museum was recommended to us. I certainly wouldn't call it small. It has several floors and a diverse collection of art. For a mid-size city it is a very nice museum. I particularly appreciated the reconstruction section of a French church, the floor mosaics from Antioch, and the Spoleto Frescoes from Italy. It looks like they are refurbishing and expanding (the recently remodeled European art rooms are very nice). It is well worth a trip if you are in the area.

Don't go often enough. This museum has an excellent diverse collection of art from all periods, If you haven't been you should add it to your list of things to do in Worcester,

Arrived in the morning about 11 and were greeted and asked if we would like to be led by a docent. Hank was a great wealth of knowledge and led us to several exhibits as well as describing paintings, artwork and giving us great insight into Warhol's Campbell Soup . AND he was free! He steered us away from the masses of children who apparently were on a field trip. Note that the first full weekend (Sat and Sun only) you can use a bank of America card to enter for free. Would return again. Oh, and free parking!

If you are traveling near Cape Cod and want to spend an enjoyable afternoon, this museums is the place to go. There are many interesting exhibits and activities for all ages. Most impressive it the Worcester Hunt Floor Mosaic. There is something for every interest. There is also a café.

This is a delightful art gallery. It is splendidly curated by people who really care about their art. The current exhibition Of British Impressionism is a splendid collation of paintings from the Newlyn Arts School, local artists and its own collection and is a great and perfect contrast with the previous exhibition of Canalettos.
Most definitely worth a visit---and a stop off at the very pleasant cafe.

Everyone should make time to visit this gem near city center. Very helpful/knowledgeable guides thru out. Wonderful cafe although quite pricey.

The Worceseter Art Museum is located in central Massachusetts (approx. 45 miles west of Boston). The priceless art collections are simply tremendous from several periods and surprising to what one may think of housed in a small museum. The embedded armory collection is astonishing. Stop by Wed thru Sat and enjoy the cafe' which came as another surprise prepared fresh, appealing and delicious..

Really enjoyed this museum, which exceeded my expectations. It had a lot of variety and some really interesting pieces. We spent about 4 hours here and did not read all the labels.

Excellent Museum. Many fascinating displays and a large variety . Many famous artists work and spacious displays so you are not crowded out when viewing them. Highly recommend a stop here when in the area. Be sure to go to all the floors as there are exhibits all over.

The art museum was a world of amazement! They had a lot of cool and great things to admire...i went here on a date and it was absolutely beautiful. The art museum is good to do a project on school or just learning general information. It's a great place to take children or for artsy couples to go on a date. They change the exhibits which is also great because you can continue to go back and always see something different!.

We were there for a wedding & reception. Lots of stairs! The exhibits were everywhere (both physically and artistically). There are multiple entrances which can be confusing. Acoustics were non existent - very noisy.

Terrific regional museum. Relatively small but with a lot to see. NIce antiquities collection, very good collection of European paintings including such rarities as Jan Lievens and Judith Leyster (they even claim to have a da Vinci). I've known of this museum for years but couldn't find time to stop by. Should take 2-3 hours to visit. They have a couple of parking lots but they are small and were completely full . Timed tickets sold online.

Wonderful small museum that houses masterpieces and surprises.....if in the area it is a must see....truly unique

It's been a long time since I lasted visited the WAM and there have been some improvements in the interim. Galleries have been revamped and pieces from the former Higgins Armory Museum have been incorporated in the permanent collection. You'll find every civilization and every period on display from ancient Egypt, China and Meso-America, through nearly a thousand years of European history, to contemporary American painting and sculpture. While this collection can't be compared with major museums in New York, Boston, Philadelphia or Chicago, WAM is doing a solid job as a good regional museum.

We visited the art museum in Worcester today to see the much-praised watercolor exhibit, due to close in a few days. The John Singer Sargents particularly were splendid. Just as splendid in its medium-sized way was the museum itself, impressive on the outside and filled with real treasures. From a mosaic floor from Antioch to Chinese jade pieces, from ancient Greek sculptures to English armor, and from Dutch paintings to early American portraits, the museum's holdings are really exquisite, in quality if not in quantity as fine as the Metropolitan Museum's, and worth a longer look than we were able to give it.

Fantastic museum; great exhibits. the boys will love the Armor exhibit from the Higgins Armory. It's really great! there are also many other great Art exhibits. There is really something for everyone! And if you go to the local public library, you may be able to get free passes to the WORCESTER ART MUSEUM!

Lovely museum! We started with the Chapter House (a beautiful example of medieval architecture which I did not expect to see here in the middle of Worcester!) The restored Last Judgement Tapestry and the accompanying video regarding the restoration was fascinating. This museum is the perfect size for a day trip, but I left thinking that I would soon return to explore more of it. The exhibits are very nicely presented and the staff were extremely helpful! This is worth the trip!!!

(Full disclosure: I am a museum member. )
Having lived in New England for 35 years now, I made my first visit to WAM just over three years ago and fell in love with its collection of Old Masters, which is the core of the museum, but not its only treasures. The collection is eclectic, covering pre-Columbian right through contemporary and including the Higgins armory collection. There are regular special exhibits.
Tip: If there is an exhibit up in the education wing, be sure to check it out, especially if they are exhibiting works from the youth programs held here at the museum.

Have gone there fir years and enjoy when they have special exhibits. Do wish they would get full scale Higgins Armiry collection on display.

Stopped by WAM for WPI's Family Weekend (free for students, discounted for families). Spacious building with varied, well-maintained exhibits; most will find two, three, or more worth spending extra time with. Has much (if not all) of the collection of the former Higgins Armory... well worth a visit.

The exhibits here are world class. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The museum has an interesting permanent collection as well as ever changing new exhibits.

So glad we made the decision to detour overnight from Lenox (Tanglewood) to Worcester to visit the Worcester Art Museum. The collection is amazing, ranging from roughly 2500 BC to contemporary, including a special exhibition of Tiffany and LaFarge. Please don't miss the Chapter House. The Welcome Desk and the gallery guides are tops as are the captions throughout the museum. We enjoyed lunch on the terrace, and, yes, we made sure to stop at the gift shop before leaving.

Besides having a well organized, beautiful and thoughtful set of displays, we found the space to have a lot of good COVID safety protocols in place including required masking, plentiful sanitizing stations, timed entry, clear gallery occupancy limits, and clear directional arrows. Also, this was my first time at WAM, and I was impressed with the descriptions of the artwork - not just the title, artist, year and materials, but the historical significance of the subject, artist, and artistic movement were often included, as well as their place in the political and societal context of the piece.

Went to a Retirement Party here. The Catering was fabulous. The venue was quite nice. It felt very special

The Worcester Art Museum has a good collection of fine art from many cultures, with an emphasis on American painters. The galleries are organized around different time periods & artistic themes, instead of around specific artists. So the information placards next to each artifact places the piece and artist (if known) in context to the history of that period. So you'll often learn about history as well as art as you walk through.
This museum is small than other museums in bigger cities, so you can through it in a couple of hours. There's plenty of nearby free parking.

Great collection of artwork an sculptures!
Many floors of exhibits! It was a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. There is a cafe but only opened until 2:30 pm.

Went here with friends for the first time. The architecture inside the building is beautiful. They have many interesting pieces for everyone's taste in art. They have a cafe but I did not eat there. The gift shop had many unique items. I will be going back when I have even more time to explore this gem of an art museum.

I was expecting a much smaller, less grand, and lower grade collection that I found here. The museum space has 4 levels with a nice mix of local artists, well known artists, sculpture, Paul Revere silver, and a wonderful reconstructed interior of a former french building. The museum was free during our visit, but I wouldn't hesitate to pay the admission price for visiting such a nice museum. Parking was a breeze too.

I was here to attend a wedding. I have never been to Worcester before, and was VERY impressed with what I was able to see of the exhibits, and the venue architecture itself. There were Roman Tiles, art fall over...very impressive for Worcester. As far as the wedding was concerned, the Museum did an awesome job with the details and service for the wedding, from the hors d'oeuvres to dessert. The has a cash bar for mixed drinks, beer, with white wine (in this case ) - complimentary. Do note, no red wine is served in the hall due to the possibility of it damaging the art

A small museum that has a little taste of everything, as well as some unique items in the permanent collection (unexpectedly excellent collection of ancient Roman mosaics) and sometimes fantastic temporary exhibitions. I went for the Jewels of the Nile, and it was a world-class collection of Egyptian jewelry. Worth stopping by if you are in the area.

The museum is only about 40 minutes away from us, but we have tended to neglect it. No more. I wanted to see the LaFarge/Tiffany show and we were delighted with it, but even more the Hiroshige Japanese Print one-beautifully mounted and excellent descriptive information. On top of all this there was a wonderful contemporary Japanese ceramics show on. This in addition to the stunning interior courtyard and their permanent collection. Barely scraped the surface and will be back soon!

Our local museum is just the right size and has great and changing exhibits. We just entertained a friend from Boston who enjoyed the museum very much. I wish only that the cafe was open on the weekends.

Haven't been yet this year it is a fun place and has some fine art.Last year [2016 ] they had a cat exhibit and if you had a cat drawing or pictures you could display it no matter who you are my girlfriend had entered two. The local cat rescue place had live cat s you could adopt it was all about cats .Then on A night they had music and a look at cat art by painter of different centuries and years it was just fun

My son and I were in town to launch his college career at WPI. We went to WAM on a Friday, and it was free! I would have paid, and will return. In fact, we went again the next day to bring my other son. A fantastic exhibit by local artist, James Dye, along with a beautiful Tiffany glass exhibit. Both boys enjoyed the medieval armor from the old Higgins Armory, as well as the Greek and Roman art. I thought the collection from the Impressionists was fairly impressive for a small museum!

The museum isn’t too big and can easily be covered in 2 hours. We visited on a Saturday and it was almost empty. Decent exhibits but nothing really stood out.

This is a wonderful museum with a great selection of artist and other art works, it is moderately priced and a good day experience.

We loved this place when we visited with our kids. They enjoyed all kids arts and playing around museum. I enjoyed the exhibition. I recommend it.

The Worcester Art Museum is a great, reasonably sized museum. It is small enough to see in a single visit, if you must. It also has enough quality that it can sustain multiple visits. With a comprehensive set of collections (Roman, Greek, Italian, contemporary, impressionist, etc) as well as an exceptional armour collection, the museum is both satisfying and surprising.

This wonderful jewel of a place is just off 290 and has free parking. Throughout the museum are signs featuring a cartoon puppy to remind children “Paws off the art!” with explanations why we don’t touch the art. There are stations peppered throughout with replicas of things to touch. They’ve incorporated the pieces from the Higgins armory nicely into the collection. I love some of the permanent pieces, I love the exhibits of local work and everything in between.
Well with the visit.

I have gone to a few exhibits there and each time the staff has organized a very professional experience. They also are proficient at allowing ample viewing time and at finding a location where one can see. I am vertically challenged and so am always trying to find the best spot to see what I want to see. The staff is extremely helpful with this type of customer service.

We saw a beautifully curated and extensive exhibit on Winslow Homer in England at the same time WAM was showing its annual Flora in Winter exhbiit. Try to catch the floral exhibit on a cold, grey winter day when you need a reminder that spring is around the corner. It's not a traditional flower show. Each room has one or more spectacular floral arrangements that pick up on something in a painting in the room. The exhibit runs for only three days so be sure to put it on your calendar if you are a gardener or lover of flowers.
On just a regular day, WAM also has a surprisingly extensive and impressive collection of art from many eras and cultures. There is something for everyone here, as well as a small but elegant cafe and a sweet gift shop. The building itself is quite grand, as are the imposing 19th and early 20th century buildings downtown.

Love the free wkend day and summer days admissions! Beautiful and historic art and sculptures. Great knowledgeable and friendly staff. Centrally located with free parking close by. A Worcester jewel.

We originally went there to view the cat pictures and the live cats-in-residence. However, we also spent a little time in the Egyptian room and the Mesoamerican exhibits. It's not large and they have chosen selected times and places. It is closely tied to the community. If we lived closer, we would probably become members.

If you've never been to the Worcester art museum it is a must visit. Went there for Star Wars day with my son he loved it got a chance to see a light saber demonstration, storm troopers, arts and crafts. If your visiting on abnormal day they have a Monet and some great art from all around the world. One of my favorite museums to visit.

The Monet exhibit is one of my favorite artist! This museum is really a treasure if you are looking for some great art! . We also got tickets to the local mansion as well! If you are new to the city or just visiting , don't miss this place on your to do list!

Great museum really enjoyed it. Bought a yearly pass so I can take him perhaps once a month staff was very courteous and we really liked Rembrandt Etchings. Plenty of parking safe area very near from I-290 ant Route 20

I cannot say enough about the Worcester Art Museum. The artwork, the atmosphere, the knowledgeable staff - always willing to help. Truly a treasure for young, not so young and everything in between! Looking forward to taking some out of town guests this summer!

i began visiting this museum 36 years ago when I relocated to the Central Massachusetts area. To begin with the collections are OUTSTANDING. No only are they diverse - but range and quality of the scope of the schools and periods thar are represented is impressive. When the saved the collection from the Higgins Armory, they further enhanced the total experience. The interior of the building is stunning - from the extraordinarily effective and beautiful floor l Roman mosaic in the main entrance, to the Medieval Chapel, to the stunning double staircase. There is a small cafe with a sophisticated menu and an umbrella patio for dining outside. They routinely have fascinating special exhibits and the Art in Flower show in the Spring never fails to meet my expectations! I have been to NY, London, Paris,Chicago, Boston, Italy, Hartford - and I assure you, you will be very satisfied when u stop by for a visit!

Reusable Universes is both beautiful and fascinating since if used materials available to everyone in their daily lives. We saw both young children and parents as well as their grandparents at this exhibition. The sculptures are unusual in that they expand and contract in different speeds and differing colored lights and shapes. It is hard to tear yourself away from this exhibition since the repetition and variants of shapes and colors are mesmerizing. On view until November 12, 2017..

Friends and I met for lunch in the WAM restaurant. It was delicious as it always is.
Then we spent a couple of hours walking through the galleries.
We saw great art, the mosaic tapestry on the Rennaisance Court floor, and more.
WAM is one of the 50 best small museums in the country. There is a variety of art from different periods - and now it is the host of the Higgins collection of armor.

Worcester is blessed with one of the finest small-to-medium fine art museums in the country. It displays five centuries of art in its collection of over 30,000 art objects. I find that its special exhibitions rival museums of much larger size and capacity.
Gem in the Heart of Worcester
This museum was on our bucket list of local places to visit. I’d read about this museum in publications, but we’d never stopped on our many drives through Worcester. It is in a lovely old building with some parking right in front of the entrance. We parked on the street on our Sunday visit not realizing this free parking was available. The museum had a very nice special exhibit on Monet’s paintings of Waterloo Bridge in London. We were impressed with the variety and quality of the other art works. This museum is of a nice size as not to get too tiring or overwhelming. The only thing I was disappointed in was that there wasn’t a nice cafe for a snack or lunch on Sunday- just a cart with a few choices. Not a big deal though.
