Li Hongzhang Former Residence

It is the residence of Li Hongzhang, a military and political minister in the late Qing Dynasty. It is a typical residential building in the Jianghuai area in the late Qing Dynasty and the largest celebrity residence left in Hefei.
The buildings of the former residence are the main gate, front hall, middle hall and horse-riding building from south to north. The wood carvings are exquisite and the halls are filled with exhibitions of Li Hongzhang.
Zoumalou is the essence of the entire former residence. It is a "U"-shaped wooden building. The first floor houses the "Li Hongzhang and China Merchants" exhibition, and the second floor is the ladies' boudoir.
On the east side of the main building of the former residence is the exhibition hall, which introduces the Huai Army led by Li Hongzhang and displays the armor of the Huai Army at that time, as well as the five-color imperial edict, etc.

Li Hongzhang's former residence is located on the Huaihe Road Pedestrian Street, so it is very convenient to walk there. It introduces Li Hongzhang's life in detail. People have mixed opinions about Li Hongzhang, but no one can erase the great contributions he made. I personally think it is worth a visit. It takes more than an hour to visit the whole place. You can rent an interpreter or ask for a live interpreter. The ticket price is 20 yuan.

Li Hongzhang's former residence is a residential building in the Jianghuai region in the late Qing Dynasty. It covers an area of 3,500 square meters and is divided into two courtyards, the east and west. The east courtyard has the front hall, the middle hall, the Fushou Hall, and the Zoumalou.

The front hall is an exhibition of Li Hongzhang's life. It is divided into several parts: his youth, the commander of the Huai Army and the leader of the Westernization Movement, and his life's merits and demerits. The middle hall is called Fushou Hall, where guests are met and important family ceremonies are held. It is spacious and magnificent, with couplets on the pillars: "The pillar of China is a good assistant, and the leader of the mountains and rivers has brought great prosperity." Zoumalou is a two-story wooden building in the shape of a Chinese character "回". Because his family lived here, it was also called the "Miss Building". The first floor is an exhibition of Li Hongzhang's calligraphy and an exhibition of Li Hongzhang and the China Merchants Group, and the second floor is a reproduction of the original scene of the young lady's boudoir.

The "Former Residence of Li Hongzhang" does not require a ticket and is free to visit. You only need to swipe your ID card. Before visiting, you can follow the "Former Residence of Li Hongzhang" WeChat public account, make an appointment in advance, and learn about the content of the visit, which is very good. The order of visiting is: front hall (life exhibition) → middle hall (Fushou Hall) → calligraphy exhibition → Zoumalou (China Merchants Steam Navigation Company) → Huai Army and Modern National Defense Exhibition.

The front hall is the Li Hongzhang Life Exhibition. A large number of precious pictures and objects are used to show Li Hongzhang's turbulent life, namely "imperial examinations in youth, military service in middle age, frontier defense in middle age, and Westernization in old age", revealing Li Hongzhang, a controversial and legendary figure as a military strategist, industrialist and diplomat, from multiple levels and angles.

The central hall is also called Fu Shou Tang. It is 9 meters high and is the largest existing private residential hall in the Jianghuai region in the late Qing Dynasty.

There is a wall between the Miss Building and the front yard. The door in the middle of the wall is the second door that people often said in the past, "Don't go out of the main door, don't step into the second door." The wall gate strictly separates the Miss Building from the outside world, and men are strictly prohibited from entering the second door. The Miss Building is also called the "Zou Ma Building", where the female members of the Li family live. The two-story wooden carving building in the shape of a Chinese character is seven rooms wide, with upper and lower corridors connected, and carved beams and painted buildings. Because the family lives here, it is also called the "Miss Building." The "Li Hongzhang Calligraphy" exhibition is now on display, showing the intuitive and real Li Hongzhang through plaques, couplets and letters. "Qing Dynasty Home Life Exhibition" restores the living scenes of the official family in the late Qing Dynasty. I don't know why I can only visit "Li Hongzhang and China Merchants" downstairs, but not upstairs. Is it because of the epidemic?

Huai Army and Modern National Defense

China's military modernization began with the military reforms during the Westernization Movement. The Quasi-military and Beiyang Navy founded by Li Hongzhang made various contributions in the process of national defense modernization, and made fruitful innovations in the construction of modern military system, logistics support, military education and the coordinated national defense system between the sea and the land. As the main force of the national defense army, the Huai Army directly participated in the three anti-aggression wars against France, Japan and the Eight-Nation Alliance in modern times. Its successes and failures were huge and painful, leaving profound and warning lessons.

I passed by here on the way to Xiaoyaojin, and thought that I only had one day to visit Hefei, so since I was passing by, I might as well go in and take a look.

The yard is not particularly large, and there are more historical pictures and some information on display inside. But for some reason, my eyes were not very comfortable at the time, so I just took a quick look.

You must visit Li Hongzhang's former residence.

The former residence is located on a busy pedestrian street, very close to Jiaonutai.

By Three babies |

Li Hongzhang has a complicated history. He is a representative of the Westernization Movement and signed many unequal treaties on behalf of the Qing government. I think he had to do so when the country was poor and weak. His former residence, Li Mansion, is divided into five sections from south to north, namely the entrance hall, front hall, middle hall and Zoumazhuanxin Building. It feels like most of it is a reconstruction. I have learned about Li Hongzhang's merits and demerits in history through the Internet and books in the past. I followed the crowd in, took some photos, and left after 20 minutes.

By Settle down the impetuous |

Although Li Hongzhang's former residence has lost its former grandeur, it is still a well-preserved celebrity residence.

By Martian User |

Li Hongzhang's former residence is really small, and it is far behind Hu Xueyan's former residence in Hangzhou at the same time. It can be seen that officials should not be too high-profile.

A place where you can learn about Li Hongzhang in a comprehensive and detailed way. Tickets are 20 yuan, guide is 0 yuan, and the deposit is 100 yuan. If you like history, it is worth a visit. It is recommended to rent a guide, as it is difficult to understand the doorway by yourself.

By My Sunshine |

The ticket is 20, and you can add a guide and so on. The corresponding prices are on the wall. I had just entered for less than ten minutes when the people behind me hired a guide, and then a group of us followed them and listened. Walking around with the guide, I learned more than walking around by myself. According to the guide, these four plaques are all authentic works of Li Hongzhang, and the others may be replicas. Then, I want to say, there is no trash can inside, it seems that there is only one in the toilet. Is the toilet really clean? In the end, I feel that I have earned a lot by following the guide.

Li Hongzhang's former residence contains a lot of information about Li Hongzhang and his life. Although the evaluation of the former residence is mixed, after reading the information, I personally think that Li Hongzhang is a meritorious person. By Layman |

In Hefei Pedestrian Street, it was too noisy, but the location was easy to find, and I still gained a lot. It made me get to know Li Hongzhang again, especially chatting with a local 60+ old man for more than half an hour

By Travel Cultural Heritage |

Li Hongzhang's former residence is located in the city center of Hefei. Its current scale is far smaller than it was in the past. From here we can see that Li Hongzhang has shouldered too much infamy for China's modern history. It can be said that under the historical conditions at that time, the so-called traitorous treaties signed by Li Hongzhang were the most appropriate way of dealing with the situation. Either the country would be destroyed or some national interests would be lost. After weighing the pros and cons, it is natural to choose not to destroy the country.

Although Li Hongzhang's former residence is located in Anhui, its architectural style is not Hui style, but Su style. It can be seen that not all areas in Anhui have Hui style architecture. This is also reflected in the ancient buildings in Anqing, which are also traditional Su style buildings.

By Junjun |

A place where you can fully understand Li Hongzhang. You must visit it if you have time. The Li Hongzhang here is very different from the Li Hongzhang in history books. You can understand the real Li Hongzhang. Tickets are 20 yuan, the guide is 10 yuan, and the deposit is 100 yuan.

On the west side of the pedestrian street, it is very convenient to travel and eat. Compared with the nearby Mingjiao Temple and Xiaoyaojin, this is a tourist attraction with some content. However, there are not many collections, mainly graphic exhibitions and explanations, showing the life of Li Hongzhang and the historical changes in the late Qing Dynasty. It can be regarded as a review of high school history knowledge. The overall architecture is also a display of the old architectural style of Anhui.

By Zhang Hang |

The most recommended attraction in Hefei is the former residence of Li Hongzhang. You can learn a lot of historical facts. Of course, you need a guide, otherwise you really can't understand anything.

By walking |

I was on a business trip in Hefei. I took a few hours of lunch break and went to the pedestrian street to take a look at Li's house. The ticket was 20 yuan and the electronic guide was 20 yuan. There were quite a few people. In fact, you don't have to rent a guide alone. It's also good to join a group to listen to the guide's introduction! The place is not particularly large, but the arrangement is reasonable! Li Hongzhang cannot be labeled a traitor simply because he signed a traitorous treaty. His life was still outstanding and he was broken for the country! It's worth seeing, listening and thinking!

Li Hongzhang's former residence is located in the center of Huaihai Road Pedestrian Street, the most prosperous street in Hefei. It is more like a museum of Li Hongzhang's deeds than his former residence. In short, it is worth the 20 yuan ticket.

By Tong Ran |

Take bus No. 1 to Huangshan Building Station, and walk into the pedestrian street from Yintai Center. The former residence is not big and is divided into four parts. Li Hongzhang's best practice of the Westernization Movement was to establish the China Merchants Group, which now has many subordinate companies. The former residence shows his great achievements in life and is worth a visit.

Huaihe Road is crowded with tourists at night. Although it is raining, it does not seem to affect people's mood at all.

There are groups of tourists vying to take photos in front of Li's house.

I waited for nearly twenty minutes before there was no one there.

In fact, if you have a tripod, it would be nice to take a picture of the crowd in front of Li’s house.

Li Mansion is actually the residence of Li Hongzhang.

This time, due to time constraints, I did not make a special trip to

I didn't deliberately leave time to visit

So I can’t introduce anything to you.

But there is a lot of news on the Internet

If you have any questions about the route, you can ask me, but I don’t know what it’s like inside.

If I have time next time, I will update it.

Stop 83: Li Hongzhang's former residence in Hefei. AAAA, ticket price 20, no inspection required. In my opinion, Li Hongzhang should be regarded as a hero. Like Zeng Guofan, he became a military marshal as a literati. The perfection of his personality lies in his deep understanding of the essence of Confucianism.

Here is an excerpt from Liang Qichao's "Biography of Li Hongzhang", which describes his image as a "great man" after the assassination in Shimonoseki: When the assassination first occurred, the Japanese emperor sent imperial doctors and military doctors to see him. All the doctors said that the wound could be cured only after the bullet was removed, but they said that even if he rested for many days, he would not need to work hard. Hongzhang said with emotion: The country is in a difficult situation, and the establishment of peace cannot be delayed. How can I delay and harm the country? I would rather die than be stabbed. The next day, someone saw blood all over his robe and said: This blood is for repaying the country. Hongzhang said with tears: I will not refuse to sacrifice my life for the benefit of the country. His generosity, loyalty and indignation are respected by gentlemen.

It is better to have the guide lead you once and then see it again by yourself. Because you are not in a hurry and can see it more carefully.

By Tanghulu wants to go out and play |

Let's go to Li Hongzhang's former residence! I won't explain it, just search it on Baidu! At that time, half of this street belonged to Li Hongzhang's family. Later, the family declined, and with the destruction in the 1960s and 1970s, only this courtyard is left. After renovation, it is the "Li Mansion" we see now. Imagine the grand scene of a street at that time, and compare it with the loneliness of a courtyard now, it is still very touching.

By Yifan |

There are not many people in front of the door, it is just inside the Huaihe Road Pedestrian Street.

By Just love to play |

Li Hongzhang was born in the village of Citangying in Modian Town, Yaohai District, Hefei. The house where he was born was destroyed by the Taiping Army as early as the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom period. The former residence was built after Li Hongzhang became rich in the 1870s. Li Hongzhang's fourth brother Li Hezhang presided over the construction, and the six brothers lived together. Li Hongzhang served as an official outside for many years. He only lived here during the period of mourning after his mother's death and when he stayed in Hefei on the way to his post. The total time was no more than 2 years. The former residence is a small courtyard with blue bricks and small tiles, and the architectural style of Luzhou. The former residence originally occupied the area extending from today's former residence to the Baihe Temple, which no longer exists to the west of Mingjiao Temple. It was called Li Mansion Half Street. Most of the houses along the street were rented by the Li family to merchants as shops, but now only one-twelfth of the original ones remain, and the back garden has also been destroyed. There is now an exhibition of Li Hongzhang's life inside. The Fushou Hall and Xiaojielou furniture restoration display, Li Hongzhang calligraphy exhibition and Huai Army and Huai Group and China's modernization exhibition, tickets are 20 yuan, and the ticket price will be reduced to 10 yuan on statutory holidays. The former residence guide will perform four performances every day on statutory holidays. This is not the best attraction in Hefei, and it is definitely not in the top ten. Li Hongzhang is not the most capable person in Hefei's history. But outsiders know that Li Hongzhang has an above-average understanding of Hefei. Li Hongzhang's former residence is now directly managed by the Hefei Cultural Relics Management Office and is a 4A scenic spot. The guides here have strong professional knowledge. The scenic area software is very good.

I have been to Hefei many times. Today the weather in Hefei is particularly good. I took my parents and sister to see it for the first time. Children are half price at 10 yuan, and people over 60 years old can enter for free with valid ID. I didn't know it in advance, so my parents didn't bring their ID cards. They told the ticket inspector at the ticket gate and he let them in. It was pretty good. There are opera performances twice a day, but I went at the wrong time, so I missed it.

Located on the pedestrian street, the commercial center of Hefei in the early 20th century. I remember that when I went out with my friends, I went to the Huaihe Road Pedestrian Street. That street was always crowded with people. I played for half an afternoon, but I never went to Li Hongzhang's former residence. This was the last time I went there with my friends from other places. Li Hongzhang has received mixed reviews in Chinese history. There are objective descriptions in history books. He launched the Westernization Movement and of course signed the humiliating Treaty of Shimonoseki, but in that era, no one could change the fact that the dynasty fell. There are calligraphy and paintings written by Li Hongzhang in the former residence, which shows his ambitions at the time and his worries about the fate of the country. Finally, I also found that the China Merchants Steam Navigation Company was founded by Li Hongzhang, which is now the China Merchants Department. To be honest, the former residence is not very big. I don’t know if it has been rectified later. There are too few cultural heritages with historical precipitation in Hefei. Students who come to Hefei must visit Li Hongzhang’s former residence.

Li Hongzhang is a famous figure. We often see him in history books. However, I am illiterate and I don’t remember his great achievements very clearly. I only remember that it seemed to be a Westernization Movement. I don’t know if I remember it correctly. I will visit most of the memorial halls and museums of celebrities. Of course, I know them myself. I can remember them after reading them, but I forget them when I go home.

It is very small here, and there is no place to look at. If you don't look carefully, it will take 10 minutes, and if you look carefully, it will take at most 40 minutes. It is really very small. The only advantage is the superior geographical location. It is located on Huaihai Road Pedestrian Street, the most central location in Hefei. You can visit Li Hongzhang's former residence in the evening, and then take a walk around in the lively place. The food and accommodation are all very good. Personally, I think that even if this place is small, after all, it has been reduced. Li Hongzhang's influence in history is quite large, and it is also a representative building in Hefei. Since it is not expensive for 20 yuan, it is still worth a visit.

After visiting the entire former residence, I had a three-dimensional understanding of Li Hongzhang. It is not easy for a minister to serve in a difficult country! I was deeply touched. I searched a lot of information about Li Hongzhang on the Internet, including his views on the international situation, economic system, and modernization. I feel sorry for this old man for some reason. April 12, 2016.

Many friends who come to Hefei like to visit Li Hongzhang's former residence. This building is located on the pedestrian street in the downtown area and was built in 1999. The internal environment can basically reflect the Li Mansion at that time. Things have changed and no one cares about Mr. Li's merits and demerits here.

Anhui was one of the provinces I had never been to. This was a trip that I took action as soon as I felt like it. It only took me one hour from deciding to go to Anhui during the Qingming Festival to booking all the air tickets, so I had a trip to Anhui. Hefei was the first stop of the trip to Anhui. Considering the cost, I had to exchange points for air tickets from Beijing to Hefei, and then fly from Hefei to Huangshan, so I only had one day in Hefei. After comparison, I finally decided to visit Li Hongzhang's former residence and Anhui Provincial Museum. In addition to seeing the buildings here, I also learned about Li Hongzhang's turbulent life, "examination in youth, military service in middle age, border control in middle age, and Westernization in old age."

Knowing the ups and downs of Li Hongzhang's life, he was successful in his youth, proud in his middle age, and miserable in his later years, we cannot say that Li Hongzhang was a traitor. When the country was so weak, who could change anything by his own strength? The saying that a weak country has no diplomacy is also the best proof.
