Hongluo Temple

Many people said that the climb was very tiring, so they came down halfway. I also prepared two bottles of water and some food in advance. But I found that it was not that high, and I reached the top of the mountain in a short time, and I didn’t feel tired. I strolled along the way, burned incense, worshipped Buddha, thanked Buddha and made wishes. Maybe I came too early, and when I came down the mountain, I saw that some people had just arrived. There are free incense inside, and the main Buddhas are Maitreya Buddha, Tathagata Buddha, Guanyin Bodhisattva, Manjusri Bodhisattva, Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, etc.



There were a few young people on the mountain, making a lot of noise. I think a Buddhist holy place should be quieter.



If you are a devout person, you can come to worship Buddha. If you come here for tourism, you may be a little disappointed because there are only Buddhas along the way and no other special attractions.

Since it is a 4a hotel, I will give it four stars. The environment is great, but the service is not good. I went there on 20190113 Laba Festival. Remember to go there on a good day.



✔Bus information: Take bus No. 916 from Dongzhimen Hub Station to the destination. The fare is 12 yuan, and 6 yuan with a card.

After getting off the bus, walk back and turn right at the red light. You will see the bus stop. There is no H57 license plate, but you can just wait here. There is a bus every hour, every half hour. The same is true for the return trip. Our tour ended at 12:10 and we took the 12:30 bus back. There is no need to take a black taxi or Didi.

✔Going up the mountain: We climbed two roads. The way up was very steep, full of steps, and we walked through a pavilion. The Guanyin Road when we went down the mountain was all gentle slopes. Because this road required worship, no one spoke, and everyone was quietly talking to Guanyin.



✔ Feng Shui for the Year of the Pig: The temple has Feng Shui for each animal sign in the Year of the Pig. When I came down, I also worshipped the three uniques.



✔Service: There are service personnel in each hall, whose main task is to supervise everyone to ensure that the lit incense is not brought into the main hall to prevent fire.



What happened at the Guanyin Temple on the mountain: A pilgrim finally climbed up, but the name was not written on the lucky plaque he had requested, so he asked the staff in the temple if they had a pen. The staff directly said: No, go to where you bought it and get a pen. In fact, you could just say that there was no pen, but adding the last sentence really made people feel uncomfortable, not to mention that Guanyin was watching, and you were a bad person.

Hongluo Temple is named after the legend of the Hongluo Fairy. It was first built in the Eastern Jin Dynasty and expanded in the heyday of the Tang Dynasty. It has a history of more than 1,600 years. Its original name was "Daming Temple". During the Zhengtong period of the Ming Dynasty (1436-1449 AD), it was renamed "Huguo Zifu Zen Temple". The words "Huguo Zifu Zen Temple" were written by Ming Yingzong Zhu Qizhen (before he was captured during the expedition).

According to historical records, Hongluo Temple has been expanded and rebuilt several times, and is famous both at home and abroad and has a strong religious cult.

Hongluo Temple has been a temple of many royal appointments, and has produced many eminent monks with extraordinary Buddhist teachings. The last two generations of Pure Land Buddhist masters in my country, the 12th generation master Jixing and the 13th generation master Yin Guang, both had connections with Hongluo Temple. In particular, Master Yin Guang studied Pure Land Buddhism at Hongluo Temple during the reign of Emperor Guangxu, and later went to Putuo to establish a Pure Land temple. Therefore, there is a saying in the world that "there is Putuo in the south and Hongluo in the north".

Hongluo Temple was first built in the fourth year of Xiankang in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (338 AD). It was originally named "Daming Temple" (it was renamed "Huguo Zifu Zen Temple" during the Zhengtong period of the Ming Dynasty. Because of the wonderful legend of the Hongluo Fairy, it is commonly known as "Hongluo Temple").

The ticket office of Hongluo Temple is 100 meters above sea level. The Guanyin Temple, located halfway up the mountain, is 300 meters above sea level. The scenic area is very large and the temples are located in different locations. I originally wanted to climb to the top of the mountain, but the section from Zhongtianmen to the top of Hongluo Mountain is closed. At an altitude of 420 meters, the area near Zhongtianmen is fenced off and guarded by special personnel. I couldn't go any further and had to retreat halfway. On the way up the mountain, I could see the distant views of Yanqi Lake and Hongluo Lake. The scenery was nice. It should have been a five-star hotel, but one star was deducted because the road to the top of the mountain was closed.

In addition to Xiangshan, you can go to Hongluo Temple, where there are many Guanyins. I heard that Hongluo Temple is more accurate in praying for marriage.

After entering from the gate of Hongluo Temple, you will feel a completely different landscape from that outside the scenic area. First, visit the bamboo forest and Hongluo Pond in turn, and feel the shady forests, towering ancient trees and other Feng Shui treasures. Hongluo Temple, which is not to be missed at the entrance of the temple, has hundreds of turtles, each lazily basking in the sun. There is also the Imperial Bamboo Forest, one of the three most beautiful sights, with rows of bamboos standing tall, and mottled light and shadows in the bamboo forest. After exiting from the back of the main hall, climb along Guanyin Road and enter the mountain hiking trail. The steps are all perfectly repaired stone paths with handrails next to them, which are even and flat. You can take a rest in the woods along the way. The 33 life-size Guanyin statues are more solemn and dignified against the backdrop of green pines and bamboos. Soon you will reach Guanyin Temple. After taking a short rest at Guanyin Temple, you can climb up the steps to Zhongtian Gate. Zhongtian Gate is 420 meters above sea level, and you can have a panoramic view of the beautiful scenery of Huairou City.

Starting from Zhongtianmen, pass the red leaf forest, walk along the long corridor on the ridge, and head towards the viewing pavilion. You can reach the viewing pavilion without taking too many steps, where you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Huairou Reservoir and Hongluo Lake. Then pass the Five Hundred Arhats Garden and go down the mountain.

This hiking trail has few steps and the road is flat, so it requires less physical energy. You can visit the ancient temple while hiking, and have a meal at the nearby Rainbow Trout Ditch after coming down the mountain. It is suitable for a one-day trip on the weekend.

I arrived at the Hongluo Temple parking lot around 9 o'clock in the morning.

The car's air conditioner had just been repaired, but I still felt quite cold on the way. When I opened the car door and got out, my god! It was just 9 o'clock and the temperature was this high? I took my camera and went in quickly to find a cool place to relax.

The ticket price for Hongluo Temple is 54 yuan, with both full and fractional denominations. The name on the archway at the entrance is quite impressive: Jingbei Giant Temple!

The ticket gate is right after you pass the archway of the Jingbei Giant Temple. After passing the ticket gate and entering the scenic area, you will see a stone tablet in front of you, surrounded by a large and quiet bamboo forest. In this hot season, I hid in the bamboo forest and didn't want to come out.

After passing through the bamboo forest, Hongluo Lake is in front of you.

I looked up and saw a ticket office, which surprised me! It turned out to be a stall selling "ancient coins". Many tourists bought ancient coins to participate in the "beating money" activity.

There was a dark mass in the middle of the water on one side of Hongluo Lake. When I got closer, I found that it was a group of turtles piled together. Turtles symbolize longevity and are very common in temples. I thought it was a sculpture in the shape of a turtle at first, but when I looked more closely, I found that they were all alive! Some were big, some were small, some were old, some were young, and they were in different postures...

I have never understood what the red snail in Hongluo Temple means.

I still don't understand why I saw the red conch-shaped house in Hongluo Lake. The water here is relatively cooler. I saw many family members playing in the water, so I took the opportunity to rest for a while.

Hongluo Temple has always been very popular. Everyone in Beijing knows about it. As for who has stayed there, I can't really say. Men, women, old and young, all come here to burn incense.

Another unique feature of the ancient temple is a huge hermaphroditic ginkgo tree. Unfortunately, my camera lens cannot fully cover its entire body. I think if I come here in the golden autumn, wouldn’t it be so beautiful to see the golden ginkgo leaves all over the ground? !

The cost of the slide is 50 for one way and 80 for round trip. I bought the round trip because I wanted to experience the excitement of the downhill slide. I have ridden this thing in the Shengquan Mountain Scenic Area in Huairou, and it is OK.

The speed of climbing up the mountain was naturally very slow. I was half lying down like sitting on a sedan chair and enjoyed it very much. Except for the sunburn on my head, everything else was fine. I didn't calculate the time of climbing up, but it was probably less than ten minutes.

When the slide reached the stop, I thought we had reached Guanyin Temple because I saw a sign that said "Guanyin Temple - Turn Right" and went to take a look. I was secretly glad to see the steep steps in front of the temple and the tourists and pilgrims climbing up with sweat on their foreheads.

But I saw there is a road up the mountain next to the temple, and you can go to the top and see it even higher. After all, the view here is not good and you can't see anything.

So I climbed up hard, counting the steps and slowly moving up holding the iron railing (it was hot).

Whether it was the tourists coming down or the young people who passed me on the way up, they were all soaked like water rats. It was painful for me to watch! I was shirtless, but it was not appropriate in a temple. It was so hot!!!

The first thing that caught my eye was a pond. It was the first time I saw so many turtles, in pairs and groups. Some were floating on the water with their heads poking out, while others were piled up and perched on the rocks. I thought this should be a pond for releasing animals into the wild. There were several other ponds nearby, with the legendary red carp and green carp, as well as very, very large grey fish. They all lived very comfortably and peacefully under the blessing of the Buddha. The first temple I met, my friends prayed for their blessings. Hongling and I each bought a red ribbon. It turns out that you need to buy two to pray for a good marriage. Don't ask me how I know this.

There is a scent of fresh grass when you walk through the bamboo forest, a thick scent of pine when you go deep into the ancient forest, a faint scent of burning incense when you enter the temple, and bursts of flower fragrance on the way down the mountain. The most intoxicating is the mixture of moist earth and pine fragrance. It is particularly down-to-earth. After worshipping one by one in the Royal Bamboo Forest, you can choose to walk on Guanyin Road. It takes nearly an hour to walk with the elderly and children. There are 33 Guanyin statues along the way, each with its own profession, including the Life-Extending Guanyin, the Ruyi Guanyin, the Purifying Guanyin, the Child-Sending Guanyin, the Cihang Guanyin, etc. When visiting the temple, do not step on the threshold and do not take pictures of the Buddha statues.

The scenery is good, take a day trip on the weekend to breathe some fresh air

There is a Guanyin Temple on the mountain. I didn't go up, but I took a walk inside. There are five hundred arhats all over the mountain, and there are big Buddha statues, not in the palace. There is also a zodiac garden with stone sculptures of the twelve zodiacs, and there are several stone animal statues in each place. The Imperial Bamboo Garden is the bamboo garden named by the emperor; according to the description, this is the birthplace of northern Buddhism. There are two white marble statues in Hongluo Pond, which are the two daughters of the Jade Emperor. There are two mountains here, one is Hongluo Mountain and the other is Qinglong Mountain; you can see flowers in spring, escape the heat in summer, watch the yellow leaves of the ginkgo tree in autumn, and appreciate the three friends of winter in winter. "Create a pure land and make good connections with thousands of people."

Because of the Labor Day, we drove for 3 and a half hours to reach the parking lot of Hongluo Temple. Fortunately, we drove all the way to the main entrance parking lot of Hongluo Temple Scenic Area. The parking lot charges 20 yuan. The gate of Hongluo Temple Scenic Area is a pure land to make good connections with thousands of people. The legend of Luoxian Cave prays for a lifetime of peace and keeps the family safe.

Hongluo Temple is most famous for its bamboo forest, male and female ginkgo trees, and wisteria and pine trees. It has always been a popular place, but it is rarely noisy, and has a Buddhist Zen feel. At noon, the surrounding farmhouses can provide food and accommodation for tourists. The rainbow trout here is very famous throughout the country. Whether it is sashimi with seafood soy sauce or grilled over charcoal, you can feel the original flavor of rainbow trout.

With a pious heart, she knelt in front of each Buddha statue. For me, a person with no desires, respectful prostration and gratitude is the biggest wish. The two most famous ginkgo trees in front of the hall are towering, and tender green buds have sprouted on the branches. It's great, everything has come back to life. I believe that after another growth, prosperity, transformation, and withering, another circle will be drawn on the annual rings. Although the wind and clouds are changing, "I" is there, neither sad nor happy, neither coming nor going, neither increasing nor decreasing, neither giving up nor abandoning. After passing the last three holy temples, there is Guanyin Road on the left and Luohan Road on the right. We chose Guanyin Road to go up the mountain. In fact, our choice was right, because the steps down the mountain from Luohan Garden were very steep (my stomach was cramping), while Guanyin Road had a gentle slope and was quite easy to climb.

The bamboo forest of Hongluo Temple is a unique sight in the temple. It is green all year round and is a rare sight in the north. The ginkgo tree is also a unique sight in Hongluo Temple. It takes 7 or 8 people to hug it. The tree is 1,100 years old and has 10 trees growing from the same root. It is known as a "one-tree forest". This is a male tree that only blooms but does not bear fruit.

The H57 bus from Huairou Bus Station to Hongluo Temple departs on the hour, such as 11:00, 12:00, and 13:00. The bus in the opposite direction departs at half-hours, such as 11:30, 12:30, and 13:30. The steps are quite steep, and climbing the mountain requires a certain amount of physical strength. You can see the entire Huairou District when you climb to the top.

The main entrance of Hongluo Temple: Hongluo Spring and Luoxian Cave: Prepare to cross Hongluo Mountain to Guanyin Temple: After crossing two mountains, we finally arrived at Guanyin Temple located in the mountains. It is quiet and peaceful, giving people a sacred and warm feeling. The long bells resounded through the valley. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, my heart suddenly became much calmer. I like this indescribable sense of freedom. Bid farewell to Guanyin Temple and continue to look for another scenery. Due to weather reasons, the entire mountain is shrouded in a misty scene, mysterious but desirable. The pavilion in the mountains in the distance is called a pavilion, which is a sightseeing platform and a place for tourists to rest. On the way, I encountered a dried flower, and somehow words such as "Buddha nature" and "Zen" emerged in my mind. Climbing the pavilion, I instantly had the majestic momentum of "I will climb to the top and see all the mountains as small" written by the poet Du Fu, and my whole state of mind suddenly became much brighter. Then I visited the Five Hundred Arhats, but I didn't take pictures with respect for the Venerable. When going down the mountain, I passed by the Twelve Zodiac Park, but unfortunately I didn’t come across my own zodiac sign.

The most numerous buildings in the temple are naturally courtyard temples, with the Heavenly King Hall, the Great Hall, and the Three Saints Hall as the axis, and four side halls in the east and west; the Thousand-Handed Guanyin Hall, the Hall of the Temple of the Guardians of the Heaven, the Hall of the Guardians of the Heaven, the Hall of the Guardians of the Heaven, and the Hall of the Guardians of the Heaven. Each building is extremely delicately repaired, down to every brick and tile, showing the solemnity and simplicity of Buddhism. The most tourists are in front of the Great Hall, and the incense is lingering in the incense pot in front of the hall, and there is an endless stream of wishers. Unlike other commercial temples, Hongluo Temple does not cost money to burn incense. My companions all made wishes here, whether it works or not, don't miss the opportunity. The Spring Festival has just passed, and the spring colors of the grass and trees are still buried in the soil. It is said that there is a kind of bleak and deserted scene in the temple, but the facts are surprising. The colorful lights and bright colored flags make Hongluo Temple full of joy; the gushing springs, the goldfish playing in the water, and the rippling blue waves add a touch of agility and softness to this place; and those colorful flowers, each of which is lifelike and full of vitality. It reminds me of the sentence in the text: Spring is approaching.

Hongluo Temple is easy to find, in Huairou, about 60 kilometers from Beijing. Every time I come here, I must play the "smash gold coin" game for fun and good luck! Hongluo Temple, with a history of more than 1,600 years, emerged in the early Chinese Buddhism in the Eastern Jin Dynasty. It has a profound Buddhist cultural heritage and is the birthplace of Buddhism and Buddhist monastery in the north. There is a saying that "there is Putuo in the south and Hongluo in the north".



The mountain is 813 meters above sea level, and the red-leaf forest is mainly concentrated at an altitude of 300-400 meters. Walking through the red-leaf forest, you can listen to the whispers of autumn; climbing high to see the autumn colors, you can feel the splendor and experience the shock.



There are three major Buddhist cultural areas in the scenic area, namely Hongluo Temple, Guanyin Temple and Five Hundred Arhats Garden, and two natural viewing areas, Hongluo Mountain and Qinglong Mountain; the Imperial Bamboo Forest, Male and Female Ginkgo Biloba, and Wisteria and Pine are the three wonders of Hongluo.

At the foot of the mountain, the pines, cypresses, oaks and Quercus mongolica in the Songlin Bathing Garden are green, yellow or red, dotted with chrysanthemums; the thousand-year-old male and female ginkgo trees in front of the Main Hall are covered in gold and silver, shining brightly in the hall, and the scene is spectacular.

The scenery is beautiful and worth a visit. There are many Guanyin statues to visit. When you reach the top of the mountain, the view is very good. You can see Yanqi Lake and the entire Huairou city in the distance. It is a good place to climb mountains and meditate.

I haven't been there many times, and it's suitable for a half-day trip. I went there on a rainy autumn day organized by the trade union. I was deeply impressed. It happened to be windy the day before, and a lot of ginkgo leaves were blown down. It was very beautiful.

I came here in early September. I think it's okay to come here for burning incense and worshiping Buddha. The bells on the mountain are ringing from time to time, which really has the charm of a thousand-year-old temple. For the view, it's better to come when the leaves turn red. My husband and I went there sincerely to pray for a child. There are two ways to reach the Guanyin Temple at the top. The left is Guanyin Road, which is a relatively gentle road. You can worship Guanyin statues of various functions along the way. The right side is a relatively steep staircase. We went up from the right and down from the left. It is recommended to take the Guanyin Road on the left. The Guanyin Temple enshrines the Guanyin who sends children. There is also a Guanyin Temple behind it. It is said to be the oldest temple and the most efficacious. There is a very steep staircase from the Guanyin Temple to the Guanyin Temple at the back. It is said that you cannot stop on this staircase.
