Tanzhe Temple has a history of more than 1,700 years and is the oldest ancient temple in Beijing. There is a folk saying that "Tanzhe Temple came first, and then Beijing City".

Tanzhe Temple was first built in the first year of Yongjia in the Western Jin Dynasty (307 AD). The temple was originally named "Jiafu Temple". Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty named it "Xiuyun Temple". However, because there is a dragon pond behind the temple and a mulberry tree on the mountain, it has always been called "Tanzhe Temple" by the people. This famous scenic spot in the west of Beijing has a history of more than 1,700 years and is the oldest ancient temple in Beijing. There was a folk proverb that "Tanzhe Temple came first, and then Beijing City". When Emperor Zhu Di of the Ming Dynasty moved the capital to Beijing and built the Forbidden City, he adopted many design styles of ancient buildings in Tanzhe Temple. The Hall of Supreme Harmony in the Forbidden City was built in imitation of the Great Hall of the Temple, and both used the architectural form of double-eaved hip roofs. During the reign of Emperor Kangxi, Emperor Kangxi also personally allocated funds to renovate Tanzhe Temple and personally named the temple and wrote the temple plaque, making it the largest royal temple in Beijing. It can be seen that its ancient cultural heritage is profound. As one of the most popular Buddhist holy places in the imperial capital, Tanzhe Temple overlooks the center of the imperial capital to the west. The ancient temple has witnessed the prosperity and development of Beijing all the way, and has also silently blessed the people who come to pray.

Middle Road: Mountain Gate - Heavenly King Hall - Mahavira Hall - Dining Hall - Pilu Pavilion
"East Road" Abbot's Courtyard - Yanqing Pavilion - Palace Courtyard - Wanshou Palace - Empress Dowager Palace
"West Route" Lengyan Altar - Ordination Platform - Guanyin Hall
The main buildings can be divided into three roads: the middle, east and west. To burn incense and worship Buddha, you can walk from the middle road to the Guanyin Hall and then go down the mountain from Lengyantan. Although it is a mountain road, the road surface is very flat, so you don't have to worry about lack of physical strength. You don't need to ask for incense outside the temple to worship Buddha. There are free incense outside the major halls. You can take three sticks of incense to make a wish and worship Buddha by yourself.
⚠️「Precautions」
1. If your wish comes true, you need to come and fulfill it
2. The clothes you wear when worshipping Buddha should not be too short or too revealing
3. The threshold of the main hall is not easy to step on

There is a traditional saying in old Beijing: Tanzhe Temple came first, then Beijing City. In fact, Beijing City came first, then Tanzhe Temple. Because the previous traditional saying is based on Beijing City as the capital, that is, Beijing only appeared as the capital after Tanzhe Temple. According to historical research, Beijing formed a town in the Western Zhou Dynasty. Tanzhe Temple was first built in the first year of Yongjia in the Western Jin Dynasty (307 AD). There are thousand-year-old ginkgo trees and Erqiao magnolias in Tanzhe Temple, which are the two plant treasures of Tanzhe Temple. The second cultural relic treasure of Tanzhe Temple is the treasure pot: one is a large pot with a diameter of 4 meters and a depth of 2 meters. It can hold 10 stones of rice at a time and takes 16 hours to cook. During disaster relief, victims can get porridge and rice here. The second is the stone fish: To the west of the Guanyin Hall of Tanzhe Temple is the Dragon King Hall. On the corridor in front of the hall is a stone fish, 1.7 meters long and weighing 150 kilograms. It looks like copper, but it is actually stone. It can make five tones when hit. During festivals, the incense here is very popular, and rich people will come to burn the first incense.
I came here because of its reputation. There were a lot of people. The prayer wheels in the middle didn't match the tranquility of the temple. It felt not as good as the Jietai Temple.

There is a big fish inside. It is said that if you touch any part of your body that is uncomfortable, the pain will go away. It’s strange to say, but my mother had leg pain at that time, so she touched the fish’s tail, and then she said the pain went away. It may be a psychological effect, but this psychological effect is still very good!
The ticket price for Tanzhe Temple is 50 yuan. It is a place for burning incense and worshipping Buddha. The scenery is average.
Tanzhe Temple has beautiful scenery and a place to drink tea. There are many parking spaces. Overall it is very good.
"Beijing was built after Tanzhe Temple". Tanzhe Temple is a well-known historical site located in Mentougou, west of Beijing. It is very unique and worth visiting.
Tanzhe Temple came first, and Beijing came later. I don’t know if this legend is true, but there are many towering trees and ancient buildings, but it is a bit far from the urban area of Beijing.
This temple is very popular. When we went there it was the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, so it was still crowded with people burning incense.
The temple is not big and is filled with various objects for praying for blessings. In the end, I found that I couldn’t take any photos at all.
Actually, we went to Tanzhe Temple mainly to take pictures of the Pagoda Forest. In the end, we found that the Pagoda Forest was not inside the temple at all, but next to the temple. We could visit and take pictures directly without tickets.
In fact, we only stayed in Tanzhe Temple for less than an hour, and we spent most of the time in a small hill nearby.
The snow over there hasn't melted yet, and the light shining on the snow makes it look a bit desolate and a bit dreamy.
To sum up, when you visit Tanzhe Temple, you should mainly take photos outside the temple. There are too many people inside and the scenery is a bit messy, making it difficult to take photos.
I have lived in this city for more than ten years. Although I cannot say that I belong to it 100%, I have left behind many footprints and photos. I post them one by one.
Tanzhe Temple is located in Mentougou and was first built in the Western Jin Dynasty. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, many emperors gave it names and offered incense to it, making it very popular.
There are many ancient trees in Tanzhe Temple. There are two crabapple trees at the gate, which are particularly beautiful when they bloom in spring. There are two huge ancient ginkgo trees in front of the main hall. The one on the east side was planted in the Tang Dynasty and is 1,400 years old. It takes six or seven people to hug the tree. The one on the west side is from the Liao Dynasty.
The whole temple is built against the mountain and is very quiet. There is a pagoda on the mountain outside the temple. Standing on a high place and looking at the curling green smoke in the courtyard, the blue sky and the green trees, it has a sense of historical vicissitudes.
Tanzhe Temple, I have been here many times, it is a very effective temple. This time I got a big surprise~ At the entrance of the parking lot, drive up the mountain road for about 10 minutes, and you will see a village built on the mountain~ Very beautiful~ The sunset is setting~ It is beautiful~
The commercial environment related to Buddha is too strong. It affects the natural landscape. When I went there, I saw people being ripped off in the scenic area. The overall natural environment is good, but the cultural environment is very poor. It is not recommended to visit here
Tanzhe Temple is the oldest temple in the capital, which can be traced back to 1,700 years ago. It is not an empty saying that Tanzhe Temple came first and Youzhou City came later. This royal temple in the capital has royal relics everywhere. On the first and fifteenth day of every month, the incense here is very strong. No matter dignitaries or peddlers, they will gather here, burn incense devoutly and pray for the blessing of Bodhisattva.
Tanzhe Temple came first, and then Beijing. So, it is unreasonable not to visit Tanzhe Temple when you go to Beijing.
It's so hot, so hot, so hot. I don't think there's anything good to see.
“Tanzhe Temple came first, then Beijing.”
This oldest temple has a very smart toilet.
The first building you see when you enter the gate is the Heavenly King Hall. In fact, no matter from the shape, size or color, this is not a building that will catch your eye. But if you look closely, you will find an interesting structure, which is the thin column supporting the eaves at the corner. But it may be that I am not familiar with it.
Behind the Heavenly King Hall is the Mahavira Hall, the most imposing building in Tanzhe Temple. There are pine, bamboo, locust trees and other trees in the temple, as well as some pavilions and rockery. Although they are not exquisite, they can reduce the boredom along the way. There are also many trees over a hundred years old in the temple. Such tall and life forms that have lived for more than a hundred years always give people a feeling of being a spirit, and then they are awed. If you think about time and life in front of them, you will feel like a mayfly that does not know the day and night, and a grasshopper that does not know the seasons.
There are also several Lama pagodas in the temple, which are a bit simple in shape and decoration, forming a sharp contrast with the gorgeous halls. But I think the proportions of the two Lama pagodas under the mountain gate are quite comfortable. Tanzhe Temple also has a pagoda forest, which is said to have preserved stone pagodas from the Yuan Dynasty, but it has not yet been opened. It is estimated that the ticket price will increase after it is opened.
A very beautiful place, a thousand-year-old temple, but... it is matched by a modern newly built Buddhist temple, and places for making money everywhere. It doesn't feel like a temple at all.
The air is very fresh. There is a temple-themed hotel outside the main gate of Tanzhe Temple. It looks good. I will stay there next time so that I can breathe more fresh air there. The temple is very large and suitable for walking. There is also a tea room next to the main hall. You can sit down and feel it quietly.
The overall evaluation is so-so, because the 55 yuan ticket is a bit of a loss, and the cost performance is not high. First there was Tanzhe Temple, then there was Youzhou City, and now there is no basis to reflect this statement, except for the stone tablet erected by later generations. Tanzhe Temple is an ancient temple, and most of the famous attractions inside are basically trees and so on, which are artificially "promoted". You can't feel the atmosphere of the old temple. As for praying for marriage and children, haha, let's just skip it.
Tanzhe Temple was first built in the first year of Yongjia in the Western Jin Dynasty (307 AD). The temple was originally named "Jiafu Temple". Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty named it "Xiuyun Temple". However, because there is a dragon pond behind the temple and mulberry trees on the mountain, people have always called it "Tanzhe Temple".
"Tanzhe existed first, and Youzhou existed later". The sound of the bells made my heart calm and peaceful. In the temple, ancient trees towered and pagodas stood in rows. In this frosty morning, there were many people kneeling devoutly, and the incense was strong. Turn the prayer wheel to eliminate disasters and accumulate virtue; touch the wish-fulfilling tree, and everything will go well; walk around the pagoda and pray for your parents, which will bring you immeasurable merits🙏🙏🙏
Ancient style, a scene at every step, history at every step, very beautiful
One of the most famous temples in Beijing. Legend has it that Tanzhe Temple came first, and then Beijing City. The ginkgo and red leaves in autumn are very beautiful.
You still have to come during the red leaves season, otherwise there really isn't much to see. Although it has a long history, dating back to the Western Jin Dynasty, there aren't many historical relics left.
It is said that if you pray to the gods, your wishes will be granted! Worth a look!
"Tanzhe Temple came first, and Beijing city came later." This is a good place. The scenery is nice in the summer, and there are many ancient stories. I hope it will be better protected.
Quiet, peaceful, ancient temple, this is my impression of Tanzhe Temple. It is an ancient temple that I like very much, not only because of its long history and beautiful architectural scenery, but also because of its Zen-like environment, which is very comfortable and wonderful!
The scenery is nice, the air is good and clean, but the ticket price is a bit expensive. You can go there often.
It is a good place to enjoy magnolia in May. Below the main hall, there are Erqiao magnolias planted in the Ming Dynasty, interspersed with Tanchun flowers, as well as ginkgo and bodhi. The most beautiful one is the golden jade bamboo!
I went to Baihua Mountain the day before and stayed in a farmhouse at the entrance. It was very cool at night. I went to Tanzhe Temple at 8 am the next day. The scenery was pleasant and surrounded by mountains. There were many scenic spots in the temple. They were built by the royal order, so many of them were related to the emperor. There were many ancient trees and each had its own story. The temple was very clean and there were many tourists. The temple itself was not big, so two hours was enough. It was a pity that the pagoda forest at the entrance was not open. See the pictures for the others.
In Beijing, there is an old saying that "Tanzhe Temple came first, then Beijing City". There are countless legends about Tanzhe Temple. After all, Tanzhe Temple is a thousand-year-old temple! Moreover, including me, I believe in Tanzhe Temple. It is in the mountains of Mentougou, so basically you have to drive by yourself. Fortunately, the road conditions are not complicated and it is very convenient to drive there. There are not many people on weekends. Friends who come here for the first time should pay attention that Tanzhe Temple has two Guanyin Caves, East and West, each of which is different. The thousand-year-old Tanzhe Temple is my favorite!
Tanzhe Temple is located in the suburbs of Beijing, a very popular place. When you go there in autumn, you will see ginkgo leaves all over the ground and trees full of persimmons.
There are many historical stories, and the two large ginkgo trees inside are very eye-catching.
After breaking up, I came to Tanzhe Temple. This is a quiet place. Visiting Tanzhe Temple depends on your mood. The towering ancient trees will calm your heart. The tiger cave makes people feel sorry for the stupid tiger. Tanzhe Temple is not just for viewing, but for reading and experiencing, something that is written into your bones.
First there was the Tanzhe Temple, then there was the Beijing city. First there was the Tanzhe Temple, then there was the Beijing city.
It feels about the same size as the Lama Temple, but it is built on a mountain with an upward slope, which is not worth the 55 ticket price. The characteristics of this temple are the ancient trees and the gimmick of "Tanzhe Temple first, then Beijing City". The tree coverage rate is still quite high, and the surroundings are full of green. However, you can't climb the mountain, and the air is good. The road up the mountain is a single lane, which is quite congested and quite far. It seems that there are not many buses. It took almost 5 hours to go there and back, and I only played for less than 2 hours.
Nowadays, temples are all the same, with various kinds of Buddha worshipped, incense burning, many people worshipping, and smoke filling the air. People don’t really understand, they just worship.
Only 30 kilometers away from Beijing, Tanzhe Temple was first built in the Western Jin Dynasty. The temple was originally named "Jiafu Temple". Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty named it "Xiuyun Temple". However, because there is a dragon pond behind the temple and mulberry trees on the mountain, the people have always called it "Tanzhe Temple".
"First there was Tanzhe Temple, then there was Youzhou City." I also went there because of its reputation. The main reason was to see the ancient trees. I should have gone there a week earlier. When I went there, the "Er Qiao" was half gone. I felt a little disappointed. To be honest, I don't know if it's really because these ancient trees are so tall and straight because they have been worshipped. It's the first time I've seen such a tall ginkgo tree. It should be beautiful in autumn. The crabapple and lilac are in full bloom. There are not many people, and it's very pleasant!
Tanzhe Temple came first, and then Beijing City. Facing this thousand-year-old temple, I can only feel respect.
“Tanzhe Temple came first, then Beijing city”, which shows how famous Tanzhe Temple is. The temple covers a large area, is very popular, is backed by Baozhu Peak, and has a pleasant climate.
There is a very old temple behind the existing Tanzhe Temple. It is very popular. There is a large parking lot at the entrance. The public facilities are very good and very convenient.
This is the gate, which looks a bit desolate, with only some street vendors, fortune tellers and the like. It should be noted that you should not ask for incense from the vendors! There are clear regulations in the park that you cannot light cigarettes other than those from Tanzhe Temple. The bus stop is at the gate, which is very convenient, with a bus every 30 minutes. The 931 subway Apple Garden Station-Tanzhe Temple morning bus departs at 6 o'clock and the last bus is at 6:10 in the evening. Generally, you can catch the last bus. Tanzhe Temple closes at 4:30 in the afternoon, so you need to arrange your time reasonably. There are many spiritual animals in the park, and they are not afraid of people. It looks very loving😌In addition to burning incense and worshiping Buddha, it is also very suitable for taking pictures. Tanzhe Temple is not big as a whole, but it is divided into several temples. Since I can't tell them apart, I won't introduce them one by one. But there are many interesting activities for everyone to experience. Figure 6: Release pond, you can throw coins into it to pray for good luck. We threw it several times but didn't throw it into the goldfish's mouth😅In the end, there were no coins. Picture 7: You can write blessing signs, mainly for receiving blessings. 30 yuan/piece, you can write for fun if you like. Picture 8: Magic stone, you can carve words on it yourself. It is also a form of praying for fate. Before leaving, I saw many masters "performing rituals" in the temple. I think the main purpose of worshiping gods is to strengthen your faith. 💪🏻 Make a wish for yourself, work hard towards the goal step by step, and motivate yourself to move forward. However, I am not particularly interested in the scenic spot of Tanzhe Temple. The scenery is not particularly unique, but taking advantage of the good weather to escape from the city and breathe the fresh air in the suburbs is not a good choice.
I didn't see Tallinn. If you go there in spring, there will be a lot of flowers.
Every year I come to Tanzhe Temple to burn incense and pray. Every time I step through the archway, my mind becomes peaceful. This year, the autumn scenery is just right. The fallen leaves of the imperial ginkgo cover the stone steps, and the maple trees next to the Vajra Longevity Pagoda are dazzlingly yellow.
Tanzhe Temple is still quite old. There is a big pine tree at the entrance of the temple (it should be a pine tree...). I don't have much feeling about the temple itself, but the scenery on the way to Tanzhe Temple is still good. It's always up the mountain and the road is quite steep. When you go there, you can pay more attention to the small pavilions on the roadside. There is a pavilion where you can see the scenery of the mountains below, and there is also an ancient road that the emperors of the Qing Dynasty used to go up the mountain. The most beautiful scenery is on the road~
It was a rare blue sky, autumn was in full swing, and there were not many people. The layers of colors in the mountains along the way looked like the rich colors of oil paintings. There were pigeons in the temple that were not afraid of people, and the puppies that caught the pigeons were very cute.
It is very big inside, with many tourists and pilgrims, and the incense is very strong.
It's really troublesome to go there in summer. There are three problems with the scenic spot:
1. The entire scenic spot does not form a one-stop service system, giving people a feeling of eating up all the resources;
2. The temple lacks a Buddhist cultural atmosphere. There are things like worshipping the Dragon King and playing with Tibetan Buddhist prayer wheels. There are typos in two places in the introduction (one in the main hall and one in the wishing board)... Although the reasons can be found, it feels like a copycat.
3. Not being able to see the daily practice of ordinary monks gives people a feeling of emptiness.
Tanzhe Temple is known as the first royal temple. It is said to be very effective and the incense is very popular. Good men and women come to pray early.
Driving up the mountain, Tanzhe Temple is not very big, and the physical exertion is not great. There is Tanzhe Temple first and then Beijing City. The weather is very good and the photos taken are very beautiful.
I went to Tanzhe Temple to relax on the weekend. It's a bit far, suitable for self-driving, and the incense is very popular. There are many farmhouses outside the scenic area. I just picked one and ate on the terrace on the second floor. The breeze was very comfortable and the price was not expensive.
Tanzhe Temple faces south and is backed by Baozhu Peak. It is surrounded by nine tall mountains in a horseshoe shape, as if it is supported by a giant dragon in the sky. The tall mountains block the cold current from the northwest, so the climate here is warm and humid. There are towering ancient trees and pagodas in the temple, and there are green bamboos and famous flowers to decorate the environment. The halls are built in a staggered manner according to the height of the mountain. The Forbidden City in Beijing has 9999 and a half rooms. Tanzhe Temple had 999 and a half rooms in the heyday of the Qing Dynasty. It is a miniature of the Forbidden City. Welcome to visit at any time. I am the project manager of Xishan Yayuan Apartment 185oo899954 Invest in retirement and cultivate your body and mind! Choose Tanzhe Temple
Tanzhe Temple is located in Mentougou, west of Beijing. The temple faces south and is surrounded by nine tall mountains in a horseshoe shape, as if it is supported by nine giant dragons. The temple is full of towering ancient trees, numerous pagodas and majestic palaces. The entire temple building is cleverly laid out according to the terrain and is well-proportioned.
Tanzhe Temple was founded in the Jin Dynasty (265-420) and was originally called Jiafu Temple. It was rebuilt in the Tang Dynasty and named Longquan Temple. It was called Da Wanshou Temple in the Jin Dynasty. Large-scale repairs were carried out in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty named it "Xiuyun Temple". Because there is a famous dragon pond and a mountain of mulberry trees behind the temple, people commonly call it Tanzhe Temple, and the official name Xiuyun Temple has been forgotten.
Tanzhe Temple is large in scale, covering 2.5 hectares inside the temple and 11.2 hectares outside the temple, with a total area of 13.7 hectares. It has 638 ancient halls and is a large ancient religious building complex.
The day we went, the sky was blue and white above the temple, and the weather was crisp and clear. It was a coincidence that a distinguished guest was visiting the temple that day, so the senior tour guides in the temple came out to accompany the guest. Fortunately, there was no purification ceremony, so ordinary tourists could still visit freely, so we were able to listen to it. Today we came and caught up with this group, so we followed and listened. Hahahaha.
The tour guide was a man in his early 60s with a loud and clear voice and standard Beijing accent. His commentary was expressive and rhythmic, which made the audience enter into the scene, as if they were listening to Shan Tianfang's storytelling.
The tour guide spent the longest time explaining next to the Emperor Tree, telling several stories he had personally experienced. Wow, it seems that the legend of the Emperor Tree is not false!!! Tourists looked up under the Emperor Tree: the "Emperor Tree" under the blue sky was magnificent, with dense branches and leaves that blocked out the sun. The stone fence at the root of the tree was hung with red cloth strips for blessing, which seemed to indicate that there were many believers, which also indirectly highlighted the status of the ancient temple in people's hearts.
As more and more tourists come to the temple, the sound of bells ringing for blessings can be heard occasionally, mixed with the loud and clear voice of the tour guide, which further highlights the tranquility of the ancient temple.
If you need to pray or meditate, this is a very suitable choice.
The regular ticket is 55 yuan, and the combined ticket is 80 yuan, but I didn't see any places that can only be entered with the combined ticket. The parking lot is large, and it is convenient to park early. The scenic area is relatively small. If the mountain is closed, there are few places to visit, and it will take less than half a day to visit.
Tanzhe Temple is the oldest ancient temple in Beijing. “Tanzhe Temple came first, and Beijing city came later.” It is located in Mentougou, far away from the city center. It is popular among tourists because burning incense is effective.
The biggest attraction of Tanzhe Temple is the ancient buildings inside and the dozens of pagodas from the Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties outside the temple. If you like cultural landscapes, you can go and see it. The surrounding nature is also nice.
The incense here is very popular, but it is best not to buy incense outside the temple. Incense is provided free of charge inside the temple. It is available in places where incense is needed. Just three sticks are enough to express your gratitude.
Take Metro Line 1, get off at Pingguoyuan Station, Exit A, and then transfer to Bus No. 931, which is a special bus that goes directly to Tanzhe Temple. The ticket price is 55 yuan. If you buy a combined ticket with the nearby Jietai Temple, it will be 80 yuan, but it can only be bought at Tanzhe Temple. You can save 10 yuan by booking online.
The ticket to Tanzhe Temple is quite expensive, 55 yuan for adults and 27 yuan for a discount. Inside the temple are some temples, including the Temple of the God of Wealth, the Temple of Guanyin, the Temple of Yue Lao, the Temple of Wenwu, etc. Most of the tourists come here to pray to Buddha. We originally wanted to climb the mountain, but it was closed. The mountain there is closed from October to the end of May, and it is closed for half of the year. It is also quite remote. The bus from Pingguoyuan subway station to there only runs once in a long time, so we didn’t get a seat on the way there and back. It was very stuffy in the car, so I didn’t mind going here.
Tanzhe Temple, which is older than Beijing, is quiet and beautiful. It is necessary to have a tour guide to explain the cultural attractions, and then focus on the places you are interested in. The purple magnolia is a unique sight, which will bloom in April and is rare in Beijing.
Tanzhe Temple is located at the foot of Tanzhe Mountain in the southeast of Mentougou District in western Beijing, more than 30 kilometers away from the city center. The temple faces south and is backed by Baozhu Peak. The temple covers an area of 2.5 hectares, and the area outside the temple covers an area of 11.2 hectares. Together with the surrounding forests and mountain fields under the jurisdiction of Tanzhe Temple, the total area is more than 121 hectares.
Take the subway to Pingguoyuan, then transfer to bus No. 931 and go west for 40 kilometers to Tanzhe Temple. Tanzhe Temple has a good Feng Shui: it faces south and is built on the mountain. Tanzhe Temple is backed by the lush and verdant "Baozhu Peak", and there are nine tall peaks behind the temple to protect it. To enter Tanzhe Temple, you must first cross the "Jiefan Bridge". Legend has it that the south of the bridge is the mortal world. After crossing the bridge and entering the mountain gate, you will enter the fairyland of the gods. Entering Tanzhe Temple, the temple is built along the mountain, and it is scattered in an orderly manner; strolling in Tanzhe Temple, you will see towering ancient cypresses, faint green tiles, the sound of bells and drums, and the curling sandalwood; being in Tanzhe Temple, you will be far away from the hustle and bustle, forget the world, and have a pure mind.
When I arrived at Tanzhe Temple, what I wanted to visit most were the "tan" and "zhe". The "Dragon Pond" of Tanzhe Temple is located halfway up the mountain behind the temple and is almost dry. There are two clusters of zhe trees at the entrance of the temple. They are short, with broad leaves and green fruits, a bit like shrubs. "Zheshu Qianzhang", this inconspicuous zhe tree is the origin of the name of Tanzhe Temple. It is said that there are four treasures in Tanzhe Temple: stone fish, treasure pot, emperor tree, and dragon beard bamboo. There is a Dragon King Hall on the west side of the Guanyin Hall of Tanzhe Temple. A stone fish is hung on the corridor in front of the hall. It looks like copper, but it is actually stone. It can make five sounds when hit. It is said to be a treasure of the Dragon Palace in the South China Sea. Now driven by economic interests, it costs ten yuan to catch fish. The two large copper pots in Tanzhe Temple are unique. The pot is large and thick, and it is cooked slowly over a low fire, so the porridge is both sticky and fragrant. Standing next to the pot and looking down at the copper pot that can provide a meal for all the monks in the temple, I was deeply impressed by the great family and great offerings of Tanzhe Temple. To the east of the Three Saints Hall of Tanzhe Temple grows a tall and majestic ginkgo tree with lush crown and vitality, which is called the "Emperor Tree". There are two clumps of bamboo in the Kangxi Palace of Tanzhe Temple. The bamboo branches are slender. The one with yellow in the middle is called "gold inlaid with jade"; the one with green in the middle is called "jade inlaid with gold". This bamboo is the "Eight-bar Dragon Beard Bamboo" given to Tanzhe Temple by Emperor Kangxi. For more than 300 years, these bamboos are still full of vitality and growing vigorously. The more they are cultivated, the more they grow. Now, in addition to Liubei Pavilion and Wansui Palace, the courtyard in front of Yanqing Pavilion in the temple, as well as the north and east and west sides of the ordination platform are also planted with this bamboo.
A famous temple in the suburbs of Beijing, it is worth a visit in good autumn weather. However, the temple is small and crowded, the ginkgo leaves are not yet yellow, and the scenery and environment are not as stunning as the neighboring Jietai Temple.
When the magnolia flowers bloom, there will be many tourists on the mountain and the Tallinn below the mountain is very quiet.
Tanzhe Temple has long been famous, and I have admired it for a long time. Finally, I have the chance to see it.
During the Qingming Festival this year, my colleague wanted to go to the temple to pray for peace, so we asked to drive together to Beijing Tanzhe Temple. Tanzhe Temple is in Mentougou District, Beijing. It is relatively smooth to drive here from Zhangjiakou. Except for the holidays when there are many people entering Beijing, you must leave early at this time, otherwise it will take a lot of time on the road. We arrived at Tanzhe Temple in about three hours.
The temple is under the mountains, and you can clearly see the green hillside nearby, which makes it look particularly detached. However, there are many family hotels and farmhouses around, plus many stalls selling incense and antiques. Although it is convenient for people to travel, it still feels like a commercial atmosphere that should not be in the temple. Before entering the temple, there are many tourists buying incense, and the varieties of the stalls are also various. The price can be discounted if you talk. But if you are not too particular, there are merit incense provided free of charge at the entrance of the temple and next to each hall.
Because it is said that the incense in Tanzhe Temple is very effective, there is an endless stream of tourists who come to burn incense and pray to Buddha, and there are several long queues for people to buy tickets. We booked tickets online, which can be more discounted, and there is a separate window where you can show your text message and enter directly, which is very convenient.
Opposite the main gate is a towering memorial archway, and on both sides of the temple gate are lotus ponds. The temple was built according to the mountain terrain, and the main buildings can be divided into three roads: the middle, east, and west. The main buildings of Tanzhe Temple in the middle road include the mountain gate, the Heavenly King Hall, the Great Hall, the vegetarian hall, and the Pilu Pavilion. The east road has the Abbot's Courtyard, the Yanqing Pavilion, the Palace Courtyard, the Longevity Palace, and the Queen Mother's Palace. The west road has the Ordination Platform and the Guanyin Hall, which are solemn and majestic. In addition, there are the Anle Hall and the upper and lower pagoda courtyards located on the hillside outside the mountain gate, as well as the Shaoshi Jingshi, the Xixin Pavilion, the Dragon Pond, the Imperial Stele, etc. built on the back mountain.
The temple is full of towering old trees, fresh and elegant peony flowers, and slender bamboo forests, giving people the illusion of a private garden. It is said that there is a garden in the temple and a temple in the garden. It is worth mentioning that the Liubei Pavilion was built in imitation of the Lanting Qushui Liushang, where Emperor Qianlong and his ministers drank and wrote poems. The side where the emperor sat was in the shape of a dragon, and the other side was a tiger pattern. The spring water from the mountain flowed into it, and behind it was a piece of green bamboo. When the breeze blew, it was so quiet and peaceful.
We entered at about 8 o'clock and came out at about 12 o'clock. Because my colleagues offered incense in each hall, it took a little longer. If you just want to visit, three hours is enough. It is recommended to visit the whole temple slowly, which can purify the mind and be pleasing to the eyes.

Tanzhe Temple is a holy place for blessing. If you have any wishes to make, it is a good place to come. The incense here is really popular. It should be noted that you should not buy incense at the stall at the entrance of the scenic area, because the temple provides free incense. Each place where incense is needed will provide three sticks per person. The number of incense sticks is one or three, so there is no need to buy them yourself. But you can buy the kind of round incense that can be hung in a plate at the door. There are special places for hanging in the halls behind. The ticket is 55 yuan per ticket, but we bought it on Meituan, 45 yuan per ticket. It took less than two hours to visit the whole scenic area. In fact, there is nothing good to see in the scenery, so we basically didn't take any photos. When we arrived at this kind of place, our hearts were naturally much quieter. It was mainly for blessing and wishing. I heard that it is really effective.
There is a popular saying among the people in Beijing: "Tanzhe Temple came first, then Beijing." As a royal temple, Tanzhe Temple obviously has a deeper connection with celebrities of all dynasties. These details are scattered among the pavilions, engraved on the tablets and plaques, or diffused in the courtyards with green tiles and red railings. If you have enough patience to chase the traces of time, every blade of grass, every tablet and every stone may lead to an unknown history.
It is said that "Tanzhe Temple came first, and Youzhou City came later". Although the well of Tanzhe Temple, which was once famous all over the world, has dried up, its pines and temples still give people a feeling of deep tranquility.
