The best representation of Yafo culture is the traditional delicacies of West Street. This street of several hundred meters brings together the essence of East Asian cuisine, changing my prejudice against Minnan cuisine. Petrochemical paste, frozen bamboo shoots, steamed chestnuts, Dongxing beef, chicken thighs, garlic sticks... I fell in love with it the first time I saw it.
These foods closely connect the compatriots in East Asia and Southeast Asia. The snacks on West Street are the pioneering spirit, the hard work and the adaptability of Fujianese people. They are the taste buds of Fujianese people all over the world. With the ebb and flow of the tide, the ups and downs of life, and after three rounds of wine, the old man who had experienced business battles for a long time may be a winner in life in the eyes of others, but even after traveling around the world, he is still willing to be a child again when he returns here.
The price control of the entire West Street is extremely reasonable, basically maintaining the consumption level of fourth- and fifth-tier cities. I give a thumbs up to the Quanzhou Municipal Government again. It takes 20 minutes to walk around the whole street, and 50 yuan is probably enough to support you. Pedestrians with their families, students, and wanderers who have traveled thousands of miles to return to their hometowns are looking for their own ancient tastes in these century-old shops. I left home when I was young and returned when I was old, but my accent has not changed, but my hair has turned gray. Children meet each other without knowing each other, and ask the guests where they are from with a smile. Although I am a guest, I also feel a little bit like a wanderer in West Street.
There are so many people, tourists, locals and students after school. Looking at them, I actually miss my high school life a little bit.
On West Street, you can see many small alleys on the roadside, some of which are glowing with yellow lights, while others are illuminated white by LEDs. It would be a shame not to go into such an interesting place, so of course you have to go in and take pictures!
This place is definitely a good place to take photos
West Street is the earliest developed street in Quanzhou and the cultural context of this city. From the Kaiyuan Temple in the Tang Dynasty to the Bell Tower in the Republic of China, strolling along West Street feels like traveling through a thousand years.
Every weekend, West Street is always packed with people. There are no modern large shopping malls here, only old houses and old flavors. Young people have begun to like the flavor of old Quanzhou again.
West Street in the ancient city of Quanzhou starts from the bell tower in the east and ends at Chengxi Road in the west. It is an important part of the historical and cultural district of West Street. An ancient street, a thousand-year-old temple, two stone towers, ten ancient alleys, and twenty-eight cultural relics protection units. West Street in Quanzhou is an alley in Licheng District, Quanzhou. It is not just a street or area. For more than a thousand years, it has been like a dazzling string of pearls, connecting many dazzling and colorful cultural relics and monuments since the Tang and Song dynasties. Walking from the street to the end is more like being in a time shuttle, taking us to the Tang and Song dynasties. At that time, famous people and things can be found in miniature here. It can be said to be a historical museum, but it is different from a museum. We all need to whisper in the museum and listen to the guide introduce every cultural relic and every historical story. It is serious and solemn there. In the "History Museum" on West Street, we can eat and stroll around, selectively contact historical traces, and it is relaxed and enjoyable here.
West Street in the ancient city of Quanzhou starts from the Bell Tower in the east and ends at Chengxi Road in the west. It is an important part of the West Street Historical and Cultural District. People who travel to Quanzhou must visit West Street. There are historical relics, cultural landscapes, food and shopping here. The most popular are several Internet celebrity check-in spots with street views and the East and West Twin Towers as the landscape, which attract many tourists to check in and take photos every day.
There are many rooftops for taking photos on West Street, many of which are designed to cooperate with hairpin flower travel photography. There is a fee to go upstairs, and the floors on the third and fourth floors can see the ancient tower from different angles. However, the rooftop of a milk tea shop is open to the public for free. The rooftops of the No. 1 and No. 5 stores are more recommended.
Once you step onto the rooftop, you will be shocked by the view in front of you. Here, you can have a panoramic view of the entire West Street, with quaint southern Fujian buildings scattered in an orderly manner, and the busy streets full of traffic and fireworks. In the distance, Quanzhou's iconic East and West Towers stand tall in the city, contrasting with the surrounding modern buildings, forming a unique urban picture.
The rooftop is very carefully decorated with comfortable tables and chairs, as well as various green plants and small colored lights. During the day, you can drink milk tea leisurely here and enjoy the warm sunshine; at night, when the lights come on and the small colored lights light up, the entire rooftop instantly becomes romantic, which is very suitable for couples to date or get together with friends.
How can you not visit West Street when you come to Quanzhou, and how can you not visit the Twin Towers when you go to West Street? It is said that this is a Buddhist holy place that transcends time and space. If you go there, you will feel that this is a place that transcends the surging crowds.
Coming out of Kaiyuan Temple is West Street. Most of the houses on both sides of the road are arcades with southern Fujian characteristics. Like most cities in the country, the famous ancient streets have eventually become snack streets specializing in delicious food.
What I complain most about West Street is the safety issue
The streets here are not wide, and there are many electric vehicles and motorcycles, as well as many pedestrians. When you look up at the houses on the street, you will often see electric vehicles whizzing past behind you. How can you not worry about safety, especially since I was with my elderly parents? So after eating a few snacks, I hurriedly left West Street.
West Street suddenly became a pedestrian area. It is a wide road that runs from Kaiyuan Temple to the Bell Tower. It is crowded with scattered small shops and popular spots in the middle. There are many opportunities to travel, so I just filter them out and fly in the air overlooking West Street. Amid the hustle and bustle of traffic, the day really begins with a yawn.
West Street is the earliest developed street and area in Quanzhou. As early as the Song Dynasty, it has symbolized the prosperity of Quanzhou. It is also the most well-preserved ancient street in Quanzhou, retaining a large number of historical buildings. At present, there are more than 20 cultural relics protection units of various levels in the West Street area, which are classified into various categories such as ancient buildings, ancient sites, stone carvings, etc. There are also 12 ancient buildings and ancient dwellings that are not included in the level but are well protected. Among them, there are a mixture of southern Fujian ancient houses, arcades, Western-style buildings, temples, churches, Taoist temples, and countless snacks.
The west end of West Street is Kaiyuan Temple, and the east end is the Bell Tower and Zhongshan Road. These three are must-see attractions in Quanzhou and you can plan your itinerary accordingly.
For more details, please refer to the detailed travel notes: http://www.mafengwo.cn/i/9268721.htm
With this clock tower as a landmark, East Street and West Street are located to the east and Zhongshan Road is located to the north and south.
Quanzhou's history, culture, folk customs, and food are all gathered here. This is the old Quanzhou, and this is also the new Quanzhou. Especially West Street, it is the representative place of Quanzhou and a place that tourists cannot miss.
West Street is the earliest developed street and area in Quanzhou. As early as the Song Dynasty, it has symbolized the prosperity of Quanzhou. It is also the most intact ancient street block in Quanzhou city, retaining a large number of buildings with original historical features. I think the section around Kaiyuan Temple is quite dilapidated. In fact, the renovation of the old street can make it look new, but if you really want to see old things, it will lose its original flavor.
West Street is now almost entirely filled with restaurants and there is nothing special about it.
The busiest old street in Quanzhou, the atmosphere of the Kaiyuan Temple is so lively that it covers the world. All kinds of snacks are worth trying.
West Street is bustling with people, good food and good shopping, worth visiting again
Most of the buildings retain their original style. Go early to have fun. It is becoming more and more commercialized. There are no locals selling snacks.
The most distinctive ancient street in Quanzhou, with many historical alleys on both sides, and Kaiyuan Temple is located on West Street.
Coming out of Kaiyuan Temple to go to other attractions, I walked along West Street, a local street.
Suitable for young people or young couples, take a leisurely walk, listen to the noise, and browse for small accessories
There are many old alleys on the south side of West Street. When you visit them, you will often find many former residences and ancestral halls.
You can go shopping while visiting Kaiyuan Temple. There is nothing to buy and the food is average, not cheap and not delicious.
West Street is a great place to eat.
The place that impressed me the most was West Street, which has a strong Fujian and Guangdong architectural flavor.
There are many local snacks, which are definitely not the same as those in other cities. It is worth a visit!
West Street is a very unique road. I passed by the octagonal building, which was quite unique, but unfortunately I couldn't go up.
As early as the Song Dynasty, it has symbolized the prosperity of Quanzhou. For more than a thousand years, this ancient street has been like a dazzling string of pearls, connecting Quanzhou's numerous colorful cultural relics and ancient streets and houses since the Tang and Song dynasties, as well as the stories and folk legends attached to them.
There are still a large number of ancient houses with unique styles and quaint wooden buildings. It is simply a living architectural museum. It not only contains the rich historical and cultural heritage of the ancient city, but also tells the story of the great changes that the ancient city has undergone over the past century.
A commercial street dominated by locals, bustling and lively, worth a visit
The quaint streets are filled with historical traces and the most traditional rural sentiments. There is also a super convenient convenience store here. You can charge your phone if it runs out of battery, and you can go in and rest if you are tired. It's all free. It's simply another [West Street Convenience Service Center].
There are so many snacks on West Street! I blame myself for going there at breakfast that day. In fact, I can't eat all the snacks on the street in one day! Here are some delicious snacks on West Street for you to see:
A world for foodies, with lots of snacks. The overall feeling is pretty good. Xiaoxicheng is very literary. Suitable for taking photos.
It's not too long, it's not too short, living nearby, it's not far to go anywhere
Quanzhou West Street is very spacious, suitable for many people to cross the road together
West Street is mostly full of small vendors, so you can go shopping and eat if you have nothing to do.
West Street is the street with the most local characteristics in Licheng District. The intersection of West Street and Zhongshan Road is the bell tower of Quanzhou. There are many snacks here, such as runbing, glutinous rice cakes, bowl cakes, noodle soup, chestnut cakes, Yuanxiao, earthworm jelly, sugarcane juice, and various snacks. However, there are many people on holidays. There are long queues in front of many stores. There are two beverage shops at the entrance of West Street: Gu Ming and Hu Jian, and their business is very hot. This street is a pedestrian street and motor vehicles are not allowed to pass, but there will be many electric vehicles coming and going.
Kaiyuan Temple is in West Street, and West Street is connected to many historic streets and alleys. It is worth walking quietly for half a day to experience the streets of the ancient city. Pei Alley, Jingting Alley, Jiadi Alley, Sanchao Alley, Xiangfeng Alley, etc. The lively details and the quiet alleys are all so harmonious.
West Street is very quiet in the morning and late at night, with only closed shops and few pedestrians. During the day, it is bustling. There are many unique inns and hostels in the alleys connected to West Street. You can stay here, which is quiet and convenient.
West Street is a paradise for foodies. Walking along the street, almost all of them sell food. There are many popular online stores that you can check in, but I don’t think you have to find popular online stores. After all, "a myriad of colors catch your eye, and a thousand flavors suit your stomach." I randomly found a beverage store (I forgot what it was called) and ordered a bowl of four-fruit soup. I also bought a chicken drumstick from the store next to it (it seemed to be called Kebilong), sat down and ate it slowly, so happy! After eating, I went to Kaiyuan Temple, which is almost at the entrance of West Street. On the way there, I saw the old warehouse, but there were too many people, so I didn’t go in to see it. I also saw the entrance to Xiaoxicheng. I went in and saw many girls taking pictures. It is definitely a holy place for taking pictures. Of course, there is also the most famous quote of Bai Yansong.
There are snack bars everywhere. If you don’t know what to eat, just look for the one with the longest queue. It must be good.
Under the 780-year-old East and West Towers of Kaiyuan Temple is the thousand-year-old West Street, which is still bustling with merchants and pedestrians, a vivid picture of the prosperous scene in the Qingming Riverside Painting. Walking here, you feel like shopping in a busy city in the Song Dynasty.
Amid the hustle and bustle of traffic, there are no vendors shouting from door to door, nor are there any shops using large speakers to attract customers, but one can still feel the bustling business atmosphere in every shop.
Take snacks for example. Although some of the shops are full of electric cars, they can't stop diners from raising their hands and swaying through the crowds of cars just to get a bite of chicken shell. The line in front of a pan-fried dumpling shop that is so small that you can only turn around, actually "cuts off" West Street - the line stretches to the other side of the road. The Yafu Runbing Shop is even more Buddhist. The small shop is not conspicuous. If it weren't for the big red words "Tip of the Tongue" on a white background, you would probably pass by it. Grandma sits in the not-so-bright shop to relax in the breeze, with the runbing skins piled high on the table. Various "titles" are hung inside and outside the shop - various bronze medals issued by the government, and screenshots taken by the crew.
This is the most authentic scene of Quanzhou architecture, Quanzhou cuisine, and Quanzhou people's lifestyle. An old street strings together thousands of years of history. Walking here, you can feel the past and its prosperity.
West Street has many quaint alleys that can no longer be seen in many big cities. The things may not be very old, but the traces are very old, and you will never forget to go back.
As a native of Quanzhou, you can find the most Quanzhou culture here. This is probably a museum without walls of Quanzhou architecture, Quanzhou cuisine, and the lifestyle of old Quanzhou people. You are waiting here to measure the old Quanzhou with your footsteps.
Wandering leisurely on West Street, I feel a bit of luxurious happiness.
West Street is close to Kaiyuan Temple and is full of the atmosphere of the market. It has been thriving since the Song Dynasty. Four-fruit ice cream shops are next to each other, and the people and lanes of West Street outline a rich picture of human relationships in the ancient city.
Old Quanzhou, old scenery, no tall buildings, but cyclists and pedestrians everywhere
Its positioning is similar to that of the Muslim Street in Xi'an and the Kuanzhai Alley in Chengdu, but Quanzhou's West Street is still very Quanzhou, not the stereotyped "ancient town style". Walking along the street, you can see Quanzhou's architectural style, special snacks, and scenes of citizens' daily life.
There are lots of snacks and it's super super super lively in the evening.
Kaiyuan Temple is located here.
West Street is the only way from the Bell Tower to Kaiyuan Temple. There is a Quanzhou Theater nearby. There are some nuns at the entrance of the theater who want to give you a peace card. Don't take it. There are no nuns in Kaiyuan Temple. There is a lot of incense in the temple, so there is no need to go to the street to beg for alms... The whole street is full of delicious food, you can taste it slowly
There are so many delicious foods! Almost all of them are good! It doesn’t feel like a commercial street at all! There are also many old shops worth visiting.
West Street was the most prosperous neighborhood in ancient Quanzhou. It is also the most well-preserved ancient neighborhood in Quanzhou today. It retains a large number of historical buildings. The famous Kaiyuan Temple and the East and West Pagodas are located on West Street. West Street is the place with the most people during the National Day.
The commercial street has a variety of snacks which are pretty good.
Walking along West Street, there are many snack shops along the way. The buildings are also relatively old and distinctive, which is suitable for strolling and looking around slowly.
Lots of people, a very busy small commercial street, places to shop and eat.
There are a lot of people on holidays, and the environment is dirty and messy. I couldn't find a place to eat during the Chinese New Year, but there are a few open here.
The center of Licheng District, Quanzhou's pedestrian street, has many traditional snacks at affordable prices and all you can eat. There are also some traditional cultures that have disappeared in other cities on the street, which is very interesting. A must-see when you come to Quanzhou.
The souvenirs are made with great care, I like this place very much

The traces of old Quanzhou can be found on West Street, because the Suqingmen Inn where I stayed was on West Street, so I had the opportunity to see the empty West Street in the early morning, and also saw the bustling and prosperous West Street. The shops on both sides of West Street are still old houses, all very low. There is a sushi restaurant next to Suqingmen Square, the taste is not bad, sushi can be bought piece by piece, each one has a different taste. There are many delicious foods on West Street, such as four-fruit soup, Hongse chicken feet, golden noodles and shrimp... There are also many special shops on West Street, including bookstores, jewelry stores, coffee shops, and taverns. Starting from the starting point of West Street at the bell tower and walking to the end, you can eat all the way and have a full stomach with just a few dozen yuan.
West Street is not just a street, but an old city with West Street as the main part. There are ancient houses in southern Fujian, western-style buildings, temples, churches and Taoist temples mixed together, as well as countless snacks. If you have time, you can go to the alleys inside. Forget the so-called route and just walk around.

There are many delicious foods in West Street, such as noodle soup, fried oysters, freshly cooked rice noodles, and seafood. They are much fresher than those in Xiamen. The price is a little higher than that of Xiamen tourist attractions, but the fresh ingredients are worth it. The shops in Quanzhou are all playing Minnan songs. I feel like I'm back to my childhood, with quaint streets and old ladies wearing headscarves~

West Street is crowded and cheap. Just walk into any small shop you see. It's not expensive. I recommend the noodle soup (with fried dough sticks) and four-fruit soup.
Quanzhou exceeded my expectations. I originally thought it was just an ordinary small city, but it has strong local characteristics and is a very leisurely and flavorful small city.
The bustling scene and the clock tower at the junction of West Street and Zhongshan Road will always symbolize the old city. The coat of the Republic of China period corresponds to the arcade with Nanyang style. I once wanted to find photos of the clock tower from different periods and combine them into one, but it was extremely difficult.
Before I arrived at West Street, I had imagined that this should be an exotic street. But when I arrived, it happened to be the rush hour after work, and the streets were full of cars, electric vehicles, and bicycles, making the narrow streets jam-packed.
Maybe there is no unified management, maybe this is the original ecology, but I am still more or less disappointed. ▼ The Red House on West Street that I have seen in many guides, it turns out that seeing it is really not as good as missing it.
Ancient houses, bustling crowds, special snacks...it has a strong breath of life, messy and prosperous, rich and flexible.
The East Street and West Street of Quanzhou City are a continuous food street. All the shops, big or small, have their own characteristics. They not only serve tourists, but also local neighbors who buy breakfast, semi-finished products, and New Year goods. Every family runs their own small business, some of which are only one or two yuan. Breakfast shops even conscientiously indicate that they will add a few yuan during the New Year. They really live a hardworking and down-to-earth life.
There are women selling oysters on the West Street, guys pushing carts selling fruits, flower shops open on holidays, and stalls selling various paper and incense at the entrance of Kaiyuan Temple. Walking on this street in the morning is like visiting the market in front of your own home ~ casual ~ comfortable ~
Quanzhou West Street, which has a history of 1756, is the source of Minnan culture and the starting point of the Maritime Silk Road. Quanzhou West Street seems a bit messy in the night, but I was amazed by it in the sun. Those simple and simple walls made of red bricks and white stones have such simple and low-key patterns, as if they were paved at random, but they appear to be so gorgeous and luxurious, and this gorgeousness and luxury has accumulated too many years of history. Walking into Kaiyuan Temple, the ancient banyan tree is towering. The ancient banyan tree seems to have two big eyes, one closed and the other wide open. It is the Buddha who enlightens the world. Don't be too obsessed. Only by opening one eye and closing the other can you be happy. The ancient banyan tree stands quietly on both sides of the worship court. After hundreds of years of wind and rain, it has watched the world with cold eyes. There are also imitation wooden octagonal five-story pavilion-style east and west stone towers. The twin towers of Kaiyuan Temple are the tallest pair of stone towers in China. Despite the test of the 8-magnitude earthquake in Quanzhou during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty and many typhoons, they still stand tall. The surface of the stone tower has been weathered by wind and rain, and it looks mottled, but this makes the history more profound and vicissitudes more evident. . . . . .

The thousand-year-old West Street is half of the history of southern Fujian. Walking into it, it feels like going back to a quiet time.
West Street can be regarded as Quanzhou's food street, with many delicious restaurants. Its iconic building is the bell tower. Watching the passing vehicles at night is a unique experience.
因為時間趕,所以沒法走完整條街。臭豆腐還蠻不錯的!
Along the way, there are local specialties of Quanzhou, such as four-fruit soup, noodle soup, earthworm jelly, etc. The taste is good and the price is reasonable. At the end of West Street is Kaiyuan Temple

On the way to Kaiyuan Temple, we passed West Street, which was lined with Nanyang-style arcades. Unlike Xiamen Zhongshan Road, which has been renovated, West Street is still open to cars and is very congested, but during the traffic jam, we also enjoyed the authentic Quanzhou Old Street.
