Shuzhuang Garden was built in 1913 and named after the homophonic name "Shu Zang" of Taiwanese tycoon Lin Erjia. It is divided into two parts: Bushan Garden and Canghai Garden.
The main landscape of Bushan Garden is the rockery, namely the Twelve Caves, which has a total of 12 caves with the twelve zodiac animals inlaid at each cave entrance.
The reason why Canghai Garden is called Canghai is that only when you turn out of the Moon Cave Gate, the sea will appear before your eyes. The Forty-four Bridge is the best spot to view the sea.
The Piano Museum in Tingtaoxuan of Shuzhuang Garden is a highlight. There are special piano improvisations every half an hour, which are worth listening to.

Shuzhuang Garden is the highlight of Gulangyu Island. It integrates the characteristics of Jiangsu and Zhejiang gardens and local architecture. It is well-arranged. There is a garden on the sea and the sea in the garden. It is the essence of Gulangyu Island. The Piano Museum has two exhibition halls, displaying dozens of harpsichords, with staff explanations and short piano performances. The waves of Gulangyu Island are rippling on this small island. It is beautiful!
The courtyard is very large and requires a certain amount of physical strength to walk through. The sea corridor is very unique and very suitable for clocking in and visiting (but it is recommended not to stay too long on the one-way road, and the sea breeze is also very strong to be careful not to be blown away). The rockery in the courtyard is not particularly recommended, and there are not many features~
We arrived at Shuzhuang Garden at 8:30 in the morning. We didn’t expect that we were the first group of tourists today. It seems that the epidemic has had a significant impact. If it were normal, it would probably be crowded with people.
The entrance fee to Shuzhuang Garden is 30 yuan. It is not big and two to three hours is enough to walk around it slowly.
The place in the garden that I took the most photos of with my mobile phone was the Forty-Four Bridge, a scenic spot that can be described as "360 degrees without blind spots"!
Whether it is a sunny day or a cloudy day, the Forty-Four Bridges have a different beauty.
Even when the tide recedes, the lonely bridge and rocks left under the bridge have a different kind of rugged beauty.
The most distinctive feature of the Forty-Four Bridge is that it is a long bridge hiding the sea.
The owner of the garden, Lin Erjia, built a winding stone bridge with a length of more than 100 meters and a total of 44 spans along the seashore, which constitutes the main tourist route for viewing the sea view in the garden.
A gate is built under the bridge to form an inner lake, which draws the sea tide into the garden and hides the sea view in the garden.
"The railings of the 44-meter bridge are like a curved corridor, with the mountains on the left and the sea on the right hidden deep." The surging waves stop here, forming a landscape transition between the quiet garden and the surging sea. This conception is really ingenious!
To the west of Shuzhuang Garden is Gangzaihou Beach. After visiting Shuzhuang Garden, under the blue sky and blue sea, listening to the sound of waves, strolling on the deserted beach, I felt as if I had contracted the entire beach.
Shuzhuang Garden was built in 1913. It was originally the private villa of local gentry Lin Erjia. The owner of the garden named the garden after the homophony of his character "Shu Zang". If this manor was in other places, it would not be so special, but it is very special because it is on the seaside of Gulangyu Island, facing the sea, with its back against Sunlight Rock. The garden is on the sea and the sea is in the garden. I have to sigh that the owner of this garden really knows how to enjoy life and is really rich!
Shuzhuang Garden was built in 1913. It is located in the southern part of Gulangyu Island, facing the sea and backed by Sunlight Rock. It was originally the private villa of local celebrity Lin Erjia. The owner of the garden named the garden after the homophony of his character "Shu Zang". Shuzhuang Garden was built by the sea. In Haizang Garden, there are caves beside the mountain, and stones are piled up to supplement the mountain, which complements the distant mountain scenery and blends into one. The whole garden is divided into two major parts: Canghai Garden and Bushan Garden. Each scene is scattered and orderly, with both the exquisite elegance of Jiangnan courtyards and the majestic grandeur of flying seagulls.
Built in 1913, it is located in the southern part of Gulangyu Island, facing the sea and backed by Sunlight Rock. It was originally the private villa of local celebrity Lin Erjia. The owner named the garden after the homonym of his character "Shu Zang". It has the scenery of Baishuiyang Water, the reefs of the volcanic island and the beauty of the alpine meadow of Tu'erling.
The most beautiful corner of Gulangyu Island.
You can see the sea view and beach up close and Sunlight Rock in the distance. The famous Piano Museum is in the park. In addition, there is a reef on the seashore in the park named Pillow Flow, which shows its lofty artistic conception.
Shuzhuang Garden is not actually very large, but its design is quite clever, with a strong sense of three-dimensionality, so it feels quite large when you walk around. The space is well utilized, and it is quite amazing to think that there is a manor with mountains and sea like this on Gulangyu Island, where every inch of land is valuable.
There are many paths in the stone forest halfway up the mountain. Maybe it is due to the terrain restrictions, so the maze-like paths are not particularly complicated. You can tell the directions by walking a few times. When you reach the pavilion on the top of the hill, you can overlook the panoramic view of the garden below. There is also a section of the Forty-four Bridge by the sea. The scenery is quite good. At first, I didn’t understand why it was forty-four. It turned out that it was built when the director was forty-four years old...
In short, the entire Shuzhuang Garden, with its scenery, sounds, meanings and shadows, makes the small and exquisite garden feel like a swimming dragon, vivid and alive.
One of the combined ticket attractions on the island. If you want to pick out the top three must-see attractions in the combined ticket, Sunlight Rock is the first, Haoyue Garden is the second, and Shuzhuang Garden is the third. Chinese classical gardens are more common in inland cities, but because coastal cities have never been the focus of Chinese history, and after the sudden start in modern times, most of the exotic styles that emerged are derived from Western colonizers. Like Shuzhuang Garden, located on an island, it not only inherits the pavilions, lake rocks and rockery of Chinese classical gardens, but also borrows Western-style buildings as a backdrop on the periphery. It can also rely on the extension of the pier and the small pavilions to enjoy the sea view. At present, it is the only example I have seen in China.
The Piano Museum is also within the Shuzhuang Garden. The Taihu rock rockery with its winding roads is also amazing.
I only visited this one of the check-in attractions on Gulangyu Island, and I didn't even go to Sunlight Rock! ! I went to this one because I was attracted by its rockery, the twelve zodiac animals, but I only saw three or four! But I like it very much
To be honest, I was not amazed. Maybe I had high expectations. Also, I am afraid of heights. I didn’t see much beauty after climbing up. Maybe I don’t have eyes to see beauty-_-||
The rock walls, covered bridges and strange rocks on the seaside are cleverly arranged, and it is very interesting to walk on the ups and downs trails.
I have never been to Shuzhuang Garden before, but after reading the reviews, I found that it is very beautiful, close to the sea, and has pleasant scenery.
I just passed by the entrance and didn't go in twice when I went to Gulangyu Island
The garden built by the sea has a unique design and a strong cultural atmosphere.
The scenery is nice, it’s ok, but after traveling so much, I don’t feel it’s too much.
I went there on April 28th, which was not too crowded as it was the peak of May Day. I only visited this attraction in Gulangyu. The garden spreads on the sea and the mountain. You can go and have a look, but it is definitely a bit tiring.
A very nice place, both the scenery and the culture are great.
I feel that among all the attractions on Gulangyu Island, this one is worth the ticket. . .
I feel that among all the attractions on Gulangyu Island, this one is worth the ticket. . .
Shuzhuang Garden is very big, with a rockery inside. There are stone statues of the 12 zodiac animals in the rockery. It is very difficult to get out once you enter, and it is very winding. The scenery in Shuzhuang Garden is also good. It is super nice to climb to the top to take pictures of the scenery~~
Located in the south of Gulangyu Island, facing the sea and backed by Sunlight Rock, the garden is a great place for children to play. The garden is both elegant and refined like a Jiangnan courtyard and majestic like a flying seagull. The contrast between movement and stillness brings out the best in each other. The 30-yuan ticket is very cost-effective.
One of the attractions on Gulangyu Island combined ticket. To be honest, I didn’t go in. There was only a bigger manor at the entrance, which I wasn’t interested in. If you like the characters and literary style, you can go in and visit it. It would be better if there is an explanation, otherwise it will be just a quick tour!
You won't get lost if you follow the map. The Engraving Museum is next to Shuzhuang Garden. It's a pity if you don't come, but it's a bit disappointing if you come. Shuzhuang Garden was originally a private residence. It has a unique terrain with mountains and sea. Pavilions and terraces make the space well-arranged, and rockery and streams add interest and vitality.
There is a kind of quiet beauty. You must go there when you come to Gulangyu Island.
Shuzhuang Garden was originally the private estate of local celebrity Lin Erhao. It is a great place surrounded by mountains and rivers.
The main attractions in the manor include the Twelve Caves, also known as the "Monkey Caves", the Forty-Four Bridges, and the museum.
After buying the ticket online, you can enter by swiping your ID card. The scenery in the garden is pretty good. Shuzhuang Garden is not very big and you can walk through it in 1 hour! You can visit the "Piano Museum" and "Twelve Caves"...
Good, just been there. The piano museum is amazing.
The Twelve Caves in Shuzhuang Garden really scared us, so we avoided it and went in another direction. The scenery was beautiful. There are two buildings in Shuzhuang Garden, both of which are piano museums. We followed the explanation and listened to a tour.
There are many gardens in Jiangnan. I am a person who has seen the world, so I don’t have that “wow” feeling about Shuzhuang Garden.
However, compared with the lake and river views of Jiangnan gardens, Shuzhuang Garden, which is surrounded by mountains and the sea, is very luxurious.
My favorite is the rockery built on the mountain wall according to the mountain terrain - Twelve Caves
Also worth mentioning is the piano museum contained in the garden.
In fact, to see this kind of landscape, you still need a tour guide to explain the history of the buildings and landscapes to you, so that you can appreciate the true taste of them. If we just take a quick look, we can only stay at the level of visiting.
So if you have time, you might as well follow the tour guide (or join a group) to take a more detailed tour.
Very beautiful, with small bridges and flowing water, it is super suitable for living.
You can spend about two hours here, then sit by the water to rest and appreciate the magical design of the architects.
Facing the sea, it is like enclosing the sea in a garden. The Twelve Caves are very interesting. The artificially built chain caves are full of strange rocks. Once you enter, you can't find the way out, just like walking in a maze.
There is a piano museum in the park, which houses precious pianos of different types from all over the world. There are many security guards.
A Jiangnan garden built by the sea, with pavilions and towers based on the reefs on the seashore, has a unique flavor. There is a piano museum inside
In the past, all the wealthy people came to Gulangyu;
All the literati came to Gulangyu;
And the richest literati built Shuzhuang Garden on Gulangyu Island!
A manor with a sea view, rockeries and ponds, pavilions and waterside terraces. Living in such a place would definitely make you feel comfortable. It's great to have money.
Shuzhuang Garden was originally the private garden of Lin Erjia, a wealthy Taiwanese businessman. It was built along the mountain. It has both the beach pier by the sea and the pavilions and terraces of Jiangnan gardens. It is a good garden with a blend of culture and diverse scenery. There is also a piano museum in the garden, which is really worth seeing.
Shuzhuang Garden has a rough history and is the endorsement of an era of humiliating treaties. But visitors will pay more attention to finding the twelve zodiac animals in Bushan Garden, marveling at the garden's creative ideas of hiding the sea in the mountains, and appreciating the exquisite piano treasures in Tingtao Pavilion.
January 2015, it’s really beautiful and well worth a visit.
Shuzhuang Garden has a very Western-style garden feel.
The design that blends in with the coastline is breathtaking.
The place is not big, and the breeze is very comfortable near the sea.
If you are traveling with a baby, I suggest you put away the stroller. There are all kinds of steps and stone roads. Of course, with a strong dad, you can do whatever you want.
There is a baby here who needs to be held, so it is recommended not to come up. The guardrail is very dangerous, and I kept hitting my head, my head, and the baby's head, and felt the deep malice of the stone.
A garden building in Gulangyu Island, ordinary, right?
The garden is beautiful, and there is a maze of strange rocks. This is the only place that is beautiful in Gulangyu. It is just famous, and there are no substantial attractions. There are only some organs and piano museums, which are incomprehensible.
We started from the top of the mountain. I have a bit of trypophobia, and there are so many stones piled up together. I don’t like the messy feeling, it’s not aesthetically pleasing. We continued to climb up, walking along the narrow path. Both sides were planted with green trees and red flowers. We took pictures along the way and looked at the opposite side. Along the top of the mountain were villas, all with red tiles, which was very pleasant.
Shuzhuang Garden is relatively worth a visit.
The architecture and layout of the garden are very ingenious.
A wall by the sea is like the reefs, pier and sea on the opposite side placed in a painting.
This small courtyard is not big, but the scenery is quite exquisite.
There are many garden landscape shapes
I visited Shuzhuang Garden ten years ago. It was raining and almost no one was there. Now Shuzhuang Garden is very crowded with tourists. Although the scenery is the best in the Gulangyu combined ticket, I don't have the heart to visit it properly. After all, it's a bit tiring to walk on Gulangyu. I imagine that the courtyard of the wealthy family was really good at that time. The environment facing the mountains and the sea was elegant and interesting. Donating it to the country was imperative at that time! I personally like the architectural environment of Tingtaoxuan in the Piano Museum. There is a pool by the window outside, and you can see the sea in the distance. It feels very good. It must be very comfortable to live in such a construction space!
Personally, I think this is the most beautiful place in Gulangyu Island. It has everything, including the sea, the beach, pavilions, rockery and villas. It has both the artistic conception of Chinese gardens and the luxury of Western gardens. The person who built this garden must have been a very romantic person.
The only attraction I visited on Gulangyu Island at my own expense is known as the Piano Museum. Accompanied by the piano music of the beautiful Gulangyu Island, one can be intoxicated in this flower garden on the sea.
There is a large garden. It is a combination of Chinese and Western architectural styles, with red walls and green tiles, and it feels a bit like Qingdao.
As a northerner, I found that coming to Gulangyu was really confusing. There were so many small alleys that I couldn't find the way. It was the first time I realized that if I didn't plan a route, it would be really tiring to walk around. Fortunately, I received a tour route planning map, and I could scan the QR code to get electronic navigation.
Garden house, nice view, facing the sea, spring flowers blooming
There is a piano museum inside, and there are many places to take photos and visit. There is a beach next to it where you can go to the sea to play.
After entering the gate of Shuzhuang Garden, the first space you arrive at is some exhibition halls of the Guanfu Museum Xiamen Pavilion.
As soon as you exit the museum, the beach appears in front of you.
There is a beach next to it, with many tourists and a piano museum.
I have a special feeling for gardens, and I still like to appreciate the craftsmanship of every piece. In my mind, this garden by the sea should not be regarded as a check-in place by the endless stream of tourists, but should be a quiet place for rest.
A small garden next to the beach of Gulangyu Island
Shuzhuang Garden is located on the beautiful Gulangyu Island. It was originally a private garden built by Taiwanese tycoon Lin Erjia to commemorate his villa in Banqiao, Taipei. It was built in 1913 and turned into a park in 1956. It is a distinctive modern Chinese garden. The "Shuzhuang Hidden Sea" in Xiamen's 20 famous scenic spots is here. Shuzhuang Garden has a myriad of scenery. It concentrates the three most artistic characteristics of garden art: "hiding, borrowing, and combining movement and stillness": hiding means hiding the sea, and you can't see the vast blue sea until you enter the Moon Cave Gate; and the Forty-Four Bridges cleverly lead the sea water into the garden, turning it into the sea, the inner pool, and the outer pool. This is the effort the owner put into hiding. Borrowing means borrowing scenery, sound, meaning and shadow, turning other things into one's own, taking the external scene into the internal scene, borrowing Sunlight Rock as the upward view, Nan Taiwu as the distant view, borrowing the sea as the foundation, and borrowing the pavilion as the near view, forming a beautiful and three-dimensional painting.
Except for the rain, everything else was fine. The Piano Museum is in Shuzhuang Park. There are pianos from different centuries. You can't touch the pianos, you can only look at them. There are no piano performances, but piano music will be played. Go up and you can see the whole view.
The scenery is pretty good. It is worthy of being the back garden of the rich in the old days. The decoration is pretty good. Facing the sea, the scenery is actually quite beautiful. There are piano museums and replica museums to see.
If the sun is not shining brightly, it is really comfortable to stay here, especially when it is cool. It really is someone else's back garden, haha.
Shuzhuang Garden itself is close to the beach, and you can also see Sunlight Rock, with nice scenery.
Let you experience the holiday villa of the super rich Lin Erjia back then!
I walked around Shuzhuang Garden and got a general feel for the rich man's back garden. After the walk, I just wanted to say that if you have money, you can really do whatever you want! ! The weather was too hot. There were a lot of people in the morning, many of them were tour groups. It was really not easy to take pictures, so I didn't take many pictures.
Shuzhuang Garden is a super large garden. It is said that it was a private villa in the past. It is so luxurious that I dare not imagine it. There are mountains and water in this garden, as well as a private beach. The scenery is worth seeing.
The ticket to Shuzhuang Garden is 30 yuan, and it is half price after 18:00. However, the piano museum inside is closed and cannot be visited. But we all think that Shuzhuang Garden is more beautiful in the evening.
The whole garden is well-arranged, with lush vegetation, vines and ingenious design. It is worthy of being a former private garden. Living here for a year can prolong your life.
I think Shuzhuang Garden is the most beautiful place among the five scenic spots. It used to be the private residence of Lin Erjia, a wealthy Taiwanese businessman in the late Qing Dynasty. Now it serves as a tourist attraction for tourists. Lin Erjia himself loved pianos and collected many pianos, which are still preserved in the manor.
The manor is designed in the style of a Chinese garden, with Guanfu Museum, Twelve Caves, Forty-four Bridges, Tingtao Pavilion, etc., and the Piano Museum on top. Guanfu Museum is worth a visit, and it displays typical collections from the Ming and Qing dynasties.
The entire manor extends to the middle of the mountain, overlooking the beach outside and the entire garden.
Shuzhuang Garden was built by the patriotic overseas Chinese Lin Erjia, whose pen name was Shuzhuang. At that time, it was mainly used as a poetry club. Literati and poets often came here to show off their elegance. It is good to have money.
It is the house of a wealthy family in the past. It is hard to imagine visiting here in such hot weather. The piano museum, pond, rockery, coastline, the wealthy family is indeed extraordinary.
Shuzhuang Garden was originally the private garden of Lin Erjia, a wealthy Taiwanese. Later, he returned to Taiwan because he missed his relatives. Now it is a park. The interior of Shuzhuang Garden. It is said that the owner built a rockery with 12 zodiac animals for children to play with. That day, the children I traveled with found about 7 to 8 zodiac animals; yellow and red frangipani flowers. I used to think that frangipani flowers were fake flowers, but it turns out that they are not only real, but also come in many colors.
It is not convenient for children to play too much, so tickets can be purchased on site, and you can decide whether you want to play after you arrive. There are two museums in Shuzhuang Garden.
There is a small cave inside that you can climb, which is really a big problem on a hot day. I stayed in it for a while and then came out.
Because we arrived early, there weren't many people around, so we set up a tripod and took some group photos. The Shuzhuang Garden itself is very beautifully landscaped, and with its white walls and green tiles, it is even more enchanting.
Shuzhuang Garden is located in the southern part of Gulangyu Island, facing the sea and backed by Sunlight Rock. It was originally the private villa of local gentry Lin Erjia. The owner named the garden after the homophony of his character "Shu Zang". It has the scenery of Baishuiyang, the reefs of the volcanic island, and the beauty of the alpine meadows of Tuerling. I think it is quite ornamental, and there is also a piano museum inside~
It is said that this was originally the private villa of the local celebrity Lin Erjia, and later Lin Erjia's relatives donated the garden to the country. Thus, the current Shuzhuang Garden was established. The winding corridors and the stone statues of the vast sea and sky were built.
Shuzhuang Garden on Gulangyu Island is the best spot to view the sea. Come here in the morning when the sun is not so strong. The scenery is really beautiful. Tickets are 15 yuan.
This was originally the private villa of local celebrity Lin Erjia, built in 1913. Facing the sea and backed by Sunlight Rock, it feels like walking in a garden in the south of the Yangtze River, or in the fairy island of Penglai, with the garden on the sea and the sea in the garden. There are also twelve caves formed by a large area of rocks, which contain the twelve zodiac animals. Walking through them is like walking in a maze, so it has become a favorite of children.
