Also in Zhangye, there is also a geological wonder, but far fewer people know about the Pingshan Lake Grand Canyon than the Colorful Danxia.

Anyway, the Danxia landform, which has been reported in various geographical magazines, is really the most unexpected gain of this trip.

The big screen at the scenic area service center has been playing a video of Teacher Jin Xing praising the Pingshan Lake Grand Canyon, saying that it is comparable to the Colorado Grand Canyon in the United States. Although I have never been to the United States, Teacher Jin Xing has been there, so I will believe her for once! Because I think there should be no other Grand Canyon that is more shocking than this one, right?

Pingshan Lake Grand Canyon is more interesting than Qicai Danxia because you can go deep into the valley. It takes about 1 to 2 hours to walk along the scenic route. My mother and I chose to walk. We can also choose to ride a camel or explore the car. Of course, my mother was unwilling to spend the money. I think it is not as interesting as walking, so we walked the whole way.

It has two types: regular tour and in-depth tour. Regular tour is full-length hiking, with fewer attractions, while in-depth tour has off-road vehicles and camels, with more attractions. However, I bought the tickets online in advance, and only had regular tickets. Then I saw two couples in the same car were both in the in-depth tour, so we discussed and decided to go together. You can just pay for the tickets.

Actually, it can't be said to be a big pit, just a small pit. Anyway, it's not bad. I have walked a lot.

This place is really worth visiting. As a southerner, I was amazed to see such a scene. What I admire most is the goats on the cliffs of the canyon. I am curious about how they get up there. There is a ladder in the canyon, which is estimated to be 85 degrees pointing straight to the sky. When I climbed halfway, my hands and feet were shaking side by side. I couldn't go up or down, so I had to bite the bullet and rush forward. The gopro I bought finally came in handy.

Pingshan Lake Grand Canyon and Colorful Danxia Scenic Area are both Danxia landforms. If it is summer, it is recommended to go to Pingshan Lake Grand Canyon first. First, because you can go down to the bottom of the valley in Pingshan Lake Grand Canyon, so you won’t be so exposed to the sun when visiting; second, because Colorful Danxia Scenic Area closes later, so you have more time.

The landscape of Pingshan Lake Grand Canyon is more like the Grand Canyon in the United States. The key is that there are not many people, and the attractions such as the line of sky at the bottom of the ravine are also very distinctive, and the visiting experience is very good.

The tickets are not cheap and the tour is quite intense. We chose the package of the big loop. There are off-road trucks, tour buses, camel carts and camel rides. It is very exciting.

You can actually walk there without buying the in-depth tour. Just go against the arrow at the camel riding area. I personally think the scenery is better on the in-depth tour side, and you can go around if you have enough time and energy. At present, there are not many tourists, and it is still relatively primitive. There are still local herdsmen living in the scenic area and grazing their livestock. I didn't have time to explore carefully, but I also found a lizard, and some birds/insects living in this seemingly barren land. I think the ladder is still dangerous...

It is 60 kilometers away from Zhangye city. It is composed of red sandstone with various shapes and peculiar models. The scenery is magnificent and comparable to the Colorado Grand Canyon.

Beautiful, more viewable than the Grand Canyon in Colorado, recommended. Moreover, climbing the ladder is very interesting and must be experienced. Some people say, where should I go for this and Danxia? I'll go to both! Over there is to see the mountains, and this is to see the Grand Canyon.

Pingshan Lake Grand Canyon may not be as famous as Mati Temple, but the reputation of China's "Colorado Grand Canyon" makes me curious about what it looks like. The geological structure here belongs to the red layer landform. The so-called "red layer" refers to the red rock system formed by sedimentation from the Mesozoic Jurassic to the Cenozoic Tertiary, generally known as "red conglomerate", which is 180 million to 240 million years old. The canyon is characterized by flowing water gullies, low and gentle mountains, with sandstone mountains as the background. It is mainly red, white and ochre red, and the color is slightly gray. Most of them are conical or columnar, with strange shapes. It was very sunny on the day I went there, but the wind was very strong.



There are not many tourists here, and there are hiking routes and in-depth tour routes. You have to take a scenic minibus from the ticket office to the scenic area, which takes about 15 minutes. The difference between the two routes is that after arriving at the scenic area, you can take an in-depth tour off-road vehicle to enter two scenic spots that cannot be reached by hiking; and you can also take a camel for the in-depth tour. We still chose the hiking route. The road to the entrance of the canyon is very long. The stairs to the bottom of the canyon are a bit shaky. There is a line of sky, a sacred tree, and the most famous ladder. The entrance to the ladder is very small, and the first section is a wooden board and a hand-pulled iron chain that looks unstable. I didn't dare to take the ladder, so I took another detour. As a result, I was dumbfounded. The other flat road required 800 steps, which took about 20 minutes longer.

The canyons in Gansu and Inner Mongolia are similar in style, such as the Western Fantasy Canyon in Alxa, Inner Mongolia. Overall, the scenery is unique, especially the Skyline and Sky Ladder, which are not seen in other places, steep and exciting. The disadvantage is that the price is too high and obviously not affordable. In addition, the content of the signboards of some scenic spots along the way does not match the scene, indicating that the work is not meticulous and affects the tourists' impression.

The legendary Grand Canyon of China is a little far from the city, but I personally feel it is worth it, mainly because there are many places for us to walk. The tour guide saw that we were all young people, so he decided to take a route, which was the route of the Skyline and the Sky Ladder. But when climbing, I still felt it was fun, although a little tired. The fish we arrived at, the fish tour guide was also very good, and he followed us down and kept climbing. He was also exhausted and sweating. Then there was an intern tour guide in the same car, a handsome boy, and he was also very cute. We also found many elderly people at the scene. They were all in their sixties and seventies, and they climbed faster than us, so we have to reflect on not staying at home and doing more exercise.

Zhangye Pingshan Lake Scenic Area is about 25 kilometers away from Zhangye City. It is the closest complex tourist attraction in China that integrates natural wonders, canyon exploration, geological research, ethnic customs, and self-driving off-road. It is praised by China Geographic Magazine and well-known geological experts and tourists at home and abroad as "on par with Zhangjiajie", "on par with the Colorado Grand Canyon", and a new discovery on the Silk Road! Exciting to the extreme

The soil in the canyon is dark red, dotted with snowflakes. The red soil and the white snow are well matched, like a huge and magnificent landscape painting. In fact, the canyon is a very romantic place. After millions of years of baptism by time and nature, it is full of gullies, steep and dangerous, deep and quiet, and stretches endlessly. It is not only a desert, a mountain, a deep valley, but also a long river. What's more important is that you can see the wind, the snow, the mountains, the lakes, the sun, the moon and the stars passing by.

We walked through the viewing platforms one by one, watching and taking photos. We talked about the mountains and rivers at the top of the valley and then went down to the bottom of the valley along the artificial stairs carved on the valley wall from the third viewing platform. The bottom of the valley was another scene. I jokingly called it the Heartless Valley. Looking at the cliffs around me and the sky that was getting higher and higher, all of a sudden, all kinds of martial arts heroes in martial arts novels, especially the legendary martial arts that can fly over eaves and walls, came into my mind. If I could learn one or two of the true teachings of Qinggong, it would be interesting. Then I thought of the frustrated hero who was plotted by the bad guys and fell to the bottom of the valley and was seriously injured. He fell into the Heartless Valley, looking at the heartless sky, walking on the heartless road, drinking the heartless snow, chewing the heartless grass, pointing to the sky and looking at the sun, when can he regain his freedom? Alas!

There was a ladder at the bottom of the valley that went straight up to the top of the valley. It was 60 meters high, equivalent to the height of a 20-story building. People could climb up vertically along the ladder. It was very exciting to think about it, but unfortunately the ladder was under maintenance and could not be used at the time. We had to walk along the narrow path at the bottom of the valley and climb up from the plank road. At first, I was left far behind, but later I reached the top first, but I felt that I had exhausted all my strength. Everyone was tired and panting. We all said that if we had to climb higher in the afternoon, we would definitely not climb.

The main purpose here is to see Danxia and play in the canyon. Danxia is for viewing the "shape", and the canyon is still somewhat playable.

It was very shocking to ride in an expedition car and go deep into the valley. Walking in the abyss of the canyon gave me a feeling of traveling through time. I could hear the sound of my own breathing. I enjoyed forgetting everything and letting my mind wander. Climbing a 90-degree ladder on the plateau required good physical training in advance.

We arrived at Pingshan Lake in the wind and snow, but unfortunately it was closed. The ticket office said that there was a once-in-a-decade snowstorm and the scenic area was knee-deep in snow, so it was temporarily closed. However, the snow scenes I witnessed along the way were enough to make this trip worthwhile.

The weather in Zhangye is also amazing. When I went to the Colorful Danxia the day before, it was sunny, but it was snowing heavily the next morning. So if you go there in winter, remember to check the weather.

PS: We chartered a car from Zhangye (200 yuan), and we can take the newly built Zhang (Ye) A (Lashan) Highway. There is no toll at present, and the navigation also shows that the whole route is on the highway with few cars.

The driver of the chartered car said that under normal road conditions, it would take 40 minutes to get there on the highway. But our trip (12.3) was snowy, so we had snow tires and drove slowly, so it took about an hour one way.

I have been to Zhangye twice. The first time was in July last year. I visited Colorful Danxia, Biandukou, and Mati Temple. This year, I went to Binggou, Colorful Danxia, and Kangle Grassland in late September. Pingshan Lake was originally a backup place. I went there if I had time. As a result, I went there for a while under the strong recommendation of local friends. I was shocked when I arrived there! So I recommend friends to visit Zhangye, because Pingshan Lake is still relatively primitive and unpopular. People from other places who go to Zhangye go there for Colorful Danxia. To be fair, Pingshan Lake Grand Canyon should be ranked first in my experience.

Very beautiful and shocking. I have been to so many assembly line garbage attractions on the Qinghai-Gansu line. This place and the colorful Danxia are absolutely rare natural landscapes worth the ticket price. It is suitable for a slow hike to feel the energy of nature. Personally, I feel that it is more exquisite and attractive than the Grand Canyon in the United States.

Willing to leave

Compared with the world-famous sandbar Dunhuang, Zhangye in Ganzhou can be said to be a forgotten place. It has everything from wetlands to forests, from glaciers to Gobi, from Danxia to grasslands, from grottoes to giant Buddhas. It can be called the most beautiful place in the Hexi Corridor, but it is not popular. Compared with the most famous colorful Danxia in Zhangye, Pingshan Lake Grand Canyon can be called a forgotten place in Ganzhou. Although it is not very famous, it is my favorite attraction in the whole Zhangye.

Mati Temple is not a temple, Pingshan Lake has no lake, Zhangye's attractions are so unique. I have never been to Colorado, but it is hard to imagine that this desolation would appear only 60 kilometers away from Zhangye city. Although the distance is not far, the road is bumpy and full of sand. The ups and downs will definitely make you hum the "Marlboro March" involuntarily. Compared with the colorful Danxia, this place has not been occupied by a large number of tourists, so under the blue sky and above the Red Valley, you can quietly feel the majestic waves and the desolation of the lost Mars on the viewing platform.

It is as sweet as a leftover, and it is as sweet as honey.

The ticket price for Pingshan Lake Grand Canyon is 110 yuan per person, and the round-trip transportation is 20 yuan per person. When we went there, the tour groups had not arrived yet, so the scenic area was empty. The scenery of this scenic area is particularly good, and it feels like it can be compared with the Colorado Grand Canyon in the United States, hahahahahaha

It's just that the local transportation is not good. We went there from Minle County. We first visited the Mati Temple in the morning and rushed there at 11 o'clock. We arrived around 3 o'clock in the afternoon. The road was a bit roundabout. We actually ran dozens of kilometers in Inner Mongolia! The main entrance of Pingshan Lake Grand Canyon is very close to the border of Inner Mongolia, only a few kilometers 😄! The scenery is really amazing, the most appropriate description is the work of nature.

Pingshan Lake Grand Canyon is a very interesting place. Although it is dry and rainless, I occasionally encountered camels, lambs, flying birds, rabbits, and lizards along the way. The red canyon is full of gullies and green grass, and there are wet water marks in the deepest part of the canyon.

In the currently developed part, you can follow the plank road down and then return after a camel ride, or you can climb the iron ladder dozens of meters vertically and return directly. Every viewing platform overlooks the vicissitudes of billions of years. The canyon landscape is more desolate and wild under the merciless scorching sun.

The only time during the whole trip was when the weather was bad for 2 hours, so everything was gray. However, when you look out from the highest observation deck, the view is still magnificent.

When you buy the ticket, someone will introduce you to the route first. In fact, it is just a change of routine. The route he introduces is not included in the ticket. You have to pay separately. The more novel one is to sit in an expedition car and see the scenery at the bottom of the canyon. As sports enthusiasts, we of course choose to climb by ourselves~

The same thing is that there is a sightseeing bus taking us to the No. 1 viewing platform, where we can see the entire panoramic view almost...

I recently went to Pingshan Lake and took part in an in-depth tour for 328 yuan. It was a great experience. There were many attractions to see, and you could also ride an expedition car, camel, and camel cart. The kids had a lot of fun, and I recommended it to all my colleagues.

It is hard to describe the wonders of nature in words. It was a pity that it was not a sunny day, but it was still beautiful.

This is a spot with a full five points for scenery. It is shocking at first sight! The geological landscape is completely different from the past. It is also very interesting to walk through the canyon. Unfortunately, the ladder is under repair now. But the 300-plus adventure bus ticket is a bit annoying to sell all the way. We didn't buy it. Pingshan Lake is an unpopular scenic spot with few visitors, but the scenery is unique and spectacular. Along the tour drive, on one side is a terrain similar to the Yadan landform, and on the other side is the continuous Qilian Mountains, with a distinct sense of layering. The Yadan landform here is similar to the Yadan in Dunhuang, but the difference lies in the reasons for its formation and the different soil types. Zhangye is red clay, formed by water flow and wind, while Dunhuang is sand and stone, formed by wind. We bought an expedition package for 198 yuan per person, which allows us to take an expedition car, a camel car, or ride a camel to go deep into the landform.

The driver later helped us find a travel agency and gave us a 20% discount on tickets.

There are very few people in this scenic area, but it is really beautiful!

Billions of years of vicissitudes, the magical creation of nature!

The scenic area is mainly composed of plank roads, so it is not particularly tiring to walk there. It is a bit tiring when you climb up from the bottom of the canyon at the end.

If you climb the "ladder" from the bottom of the valley, it will be faster, but it will be more dangerous.

The route of the Grand Canyon tour is as follows: first take a bus to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd viewing platforms, then go to the entrance of the Grand Canyon. There is a fork in the road in the middle of the Grand Canyon, where you can choose whether to take the vertical ladder or the gentle plank road. In addition, there are entertainment activities such as camel riding in the canyon. You can buy entertainment packages when buying tickets, which have certain discounts.

There is a very narrow section in the middle of the canyon bottom, and you need to step on the concave holes on the stone wall to climb up.

The protection measures of the ladder are very complete. There is no need to worry about safety issues. It is no different from climbing a ladder. It is much easier to walk than the previous narrow path.

The drop in the Grand Canyon is only over 100 meters, and the whole journey takes an hour. If you don’t want to climb the ladder, you can take the plank road, which takes about 20 minutes longer. When you come out of the Grand Canyon, you will reach Observation Deck No. 4, where you can take the scenic area bus directly back to the scenic area gate.

It's a very nice scenic spot. The road has not been repaired yet, but you can drive there. There is a tunnel and two holes on the way, only one of which is passable.

The whole place is like a small Colorado Grand Canyon. There is a cloud ladder inside, which is very exciting and requires physical strength and fear of heights to conquer. It is estimated that when the scenic spot becomes famous and there are more people, the cloud ladder will be cancelled because it is really dangerous.

It is a scenic spot that has not been fully developed yet. It is not very famous. Anyway, I didn't know about this place before I came here. It is also far away from the city. Even if you leave early in the morning, you will not be back until after 1 pm. But it is still worth a visit. Later, I watched the documentary "Hexi Corridor" (recommended by conscience) and found that many time-lapse clips were shot here. It is a grand canyon formed by Danxia landforms. Compared with the Kuche Grand Canyon behind, it can be said to be a small jade, because after you go down to the canyon, you walk in a canyon about ten meters deep; while the one in Kuche is a real grand canyon. However, you can experience the thrill of vertical climbing in the canyon at Pingshan Lake.

It is about 3 kilometers from the bottom of the valley to the exit. The scenic spots of Yitiantian and Tianti require a little physical strength. The elderly and those with insufficient physical strength should be cautious. There are scenic area guides patrolling along the way, and the service is very thoughtful.

I walked sideways throughout the Grand Canyon. I give myself a thumbs up for being so good. There was a strong wind on the top of the mountain, the sand and stones at the bottom of the valley hurt my feet, and the cliffs were steep. I limped along the way with a cane and wore slippers. There were many thorny trees at the bottom of the valley! We found a wounded pigeon at the bottom of the valley, but it would take a long time to climb up the mountain, so we could only put the pigeon in the grass. We finally climbed to the top of the mountain! The wind was so strong that it was about to blow everyone away. It was like an adventure, tense, united, lively, dangerous, and exciting.

After the 7-day Qinghai-Gansu Grand Loop, we decided to change the train ticket to Lanzhou in the morning to the afternoon, and chartered a car to Pingshan Lake Grand Canyon (paid an additional 300 yuan for the charter). One of my friends actually wanted to go to Ma Ti Temple, but the journey was too long and he didn't get a full ticket, so he didn't go (Pingshan Lake + Ma Ti Temple chartered a car for 700 yuan). In the end, everyone said that this small change was very wise, and Pingshan Lake Grand Canyon is worth going!

The drive from Zhangye city to Pingshan Lake Grand Canyon takes about 1.5 hours (including the time to find the way. The road is currently under construction, so you can only take a small road, but there is no sign at the intersection! Many drivers don’t know the entrance to the small road. After driving straight along the main road to the entrance of the tunnel under construction, they found that the road was blocked and had to go in the opposite direction for about 2 kilometers before finding the small road! It’s quite dangerous! When we were going in the opposite direction, the people on the opposite side honked their horns! We could only say helplessly: They will know why we are going in the opposite direction in two minutes!). It is said that the expressway will be opened at the end of 2018, and it will be convenient to go to Pingshan Lake by then!

The scenery was nice. It was cloudy when I went there, and it was very comfortable. It started to rain when I crossed the Grand Canyon and the narrow sky. I didn't bring an umbrella, so I had to cover myself with all kinds of equipment. I challenged the vertical ladder. I was so timid that I could only look straight ahead and didn't dare to look up or down.

The auspicious sacred tree is the only tree that thrives in the canyon.

It takes about an hour to walk from one valley entrance to the bottom of the valley and out of the other valley entrance. There is a fork in the road, you can choose a gentle plank road or a nearly 90-degree ladder. If you take the ladder, you will pass a short section of extremely narrow and steep road.

Be careful of the animals on the hillside because they may kick up rocks.

It takes about 20 minutes to take a sightseeing bus from the gate to the main scenic area. The route for tourists is composed of plank roads and observation decks. The observation deck and plank roads are located high in the canyon. Standing on the observation deck and looking out, the canyon terrain is undulating, and the sunlight shines on the undulating canyon gullies, with mottled light and shadow, which is very spectacular. Such a beautiful scenery can be seen at a glance!

After walking along the sightseeing trail and seeing the magnificent canyon, we came to the canyon entrance and began to follow the plank road down to the bottom of the canyon. There was no plank road at the bottom, and it was almost all sand and gravel, very primitive. If there was no trash can every other section, we would have thought we had gone the wrong way. Just walking in the giant canyon, marvel at the magic of nature!

The "ladder to heaven" that goes up from the bottom of the valley will quickly lead you to the top of the valley. People with high blood pressure and heart disease are not recommended to go down to the valley, as it is quite dangerous. If you are not physically fit, you can choose to go up the plank road from another route, but it will take longer.

The scenery is not as good as the Colorful Danxia Park. If you have not seen attractions like "One Line Sky", it is still worth a visit. If you have seen similar ones, there is no need to come here specifically. The tickets are free on the second Saturday of June every year, but the sightseeing bus costs 30 yuan.

Travel Tips

1| Always wear work gloves

The most important thing to say first is that work gloves are really important!

Take the shuttle bus to the observation deck, and then walk all the way. Before reaching the auspicious tree, you need to take the plank road directly to the bottom of the canyon. After reaching the bottom, you are surrounded by the canyon. The cloud ladder refers to a 60-degree ladder going straight up. In this process, your hands need to touch the hard canyon for leverage, and work gloves can protect your hands well.

2| Playing Order

Take the shuttle bus to the observation deck, and walk to the auspicious tree after the visit. You can choose to take the 60-degree ladder or the gentle Grand Canyon exit. Both converge at the place where you take the shuttle bus. You can play in the Grand Canyon for a long time and no one will rush you, but there is no store at the bottom of the canyon, so it is recommended that you prepare some snacks and water with you.

There is basically no service in Pingshan Lake Grand Canyon.

Friends who have the habit of exercising should find the ladder easy to climb. My personal recommendation is to wear work gloves, grab the poles on both sides with your hands, and use your hands to push yourself up when you step on the ladder. Then you can climb easily and happily.

After climbing the cloud ladder, there is still a long path to walk on. The scenery along the way is also breathtaking and spectacular.
