Chen Clan Academy. Also known as Chen's Academy, it is the largest and best-preserved traditional Lingnan ancestral hall-style building in Guangdong. The architecture also reflects distinctive characteristics, which is very different from the northern architecture I have seen before.

The most attractive thing is the unique roof decoration art. It feels like 80% of the energy spent on building this house is on the carved beams and painted buildings on the roof. It is magnificent and exquisitely decorated. Various carvings, stone carvings, wood carvings, and clay sculptures complement each other and are unique. The architecture in the north is magnificent, the gardens in the south of the Yangtze River are exquisite and elegant, and the architecture in Lingnan gives people a sense of spiritual beauty. The colorful paintings are full of aura and active atmosphere, which is unique. There are also some handicrafts on display. In fact, the academy is not very big, and you can slowly visit it in an hour.

Holding my stomach that was about to burst, I took the subway to Chen Clan Academy.

Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, also known as Chen's Academy, is located on Zhongshan 7th Road in Guangzhou. Chen Clan Ancestral Hall was built in the 16th year of Emperor Guangxu's reign and completed in the 20th year. It is an ancestral hall and academy jointly built by Chen clansmen from 72 counties in Guangdong. It has the reputation of "exiled ancient ancestral hall". To put it bluntly, everyone does not really have the same ancestor. Whoever pays the money will have his ancestor's tablet placed there.

Chen Clan Academy has a neat layout, exquisite decoration and magnificent appearance. It covers an area of more than 15,000 square meters, with a main building area of more than 6,400 square meters. It consists of 19 individual buildings of different sizes. There is a large square in front of its gate, where many citizens like to exercise and have activities. Chen Clan Academy includes the front yard, west yard, east yard and back yard.

Entering the main hall, there is a large screen, behind which the three characters of Juxiantang come into view. Chen Clan Ancestral Hall is indeed included in the Eight Scenic Spots of Guangzhou, which is really eye-opening. Then there are various antique chairs in the lobby, which are neatly arranged and antique, which is amazing.

Today, Chen Clan Academy has been transformed into a museum. Walking into Chen Clan Academy is like walking into a treasure house of Lingnan culture and art. The simple and elegant courtyard. The straight and beautiful corridors and the high-raised eaves are all exquisite works of art. There is also a display of Guangdong Province folk crafts, which restores the most beautiful Guangzhou.

Like the Ancestral Temple, the ticket price of Chen Clan Academy is very cheap, and with the half-price admission with a student ID card, it is like free admission. Chen Clan Academy is mainly the Guangdong Folk Arts and Crafts Museum, which exhibits various carefully crafted ivory carvings, wood carvings, and pottery sculptures. I also saw the walnut carvings described in the junior high school text "Walnut Boat Records", and was very moved by the meticulousness of these craftsmen.

Tickets are 10 yuan per person, and there are corresponding tickets for students and the elderly. Ordinary tickets can only be purchased by scanning the WeChat QR code and following the official account. Only discounted tickets can be purchased at the ticket window. Everyone enters by swiping their ID cards. After entering, it is strongly recommended to hire a tour guide. A group of less than ten people is 100 yuan per group. In other words, ten people are 100 yuan, and one person is also 100 yuan. So you can form a group by yourself, but don't let the staff know. We secretly formed a group of eight with a Shanghai family. The two people who came later were too loud when they formed a group, and the staff heard and stopped them.

The stone carvings, pottery sculptures, brick carvings, handicrafts, etc. inside are indeed very exquisite and gorgeous, which is a complete visual enjoyment. With the introduction of the historical and cultural background by professionals, we have a deeper understanding of them and a better appreciation. The alleys, brick carvings, and walls inside are all very good places for taking photos. I took several very satisfactory photos inside.

I didn't have high expectations for this place at first, but after entering, I felt it was the right decision. The artwork and architecture are so exquisite!

The exhibits here can be explained through the official WeChat account, or you can hire a tour guide, which I think is worth listening to.

The stone carvings and plaster sculptures are full of Lingnan characteristics, and it can also be seen that the Chen Family Academy was very wealthy at that time. I heard from the tour guide that this place had been destroyed before, and the original Chen family main tablets were also destroyed. The ones that are preserved now have been repaired, which is hard-won.

The roof walls use a lot of stone carvings, wall carvings and plaster sculptures to depict different story patterns, with bright colors and distinctive features. Since I walked into the Chen Clan Academy, I have been holding my head up and never put it down. It is so beautiful.

There are many wood carvings in Chen Clan Academy. Basically, the doors are carved with patterns of flowers, birds, fruits, etc., which are lifelike, and each door is different.

The window glass is very delicate, giving you a feeling of time travel.

The ivory products exhibited in the Chen Clan Academy are more exquisite than those in the Guangzhou Museum, and the flowers and boats are carved very delicately.

Paper-cutting, clay and other works are also exhibited inside, which can be said to be worth the trip!

It was only 9 o'clock when we arrived, and there were not many people. Chen Clan Ancestral Hall is a clan ancestral hall built with donations from Chen clans in Guangdong in the late Qing Dynasty. It is the largest, most beautifully decorated and well-preserved traditional Lingnan ancestral hall in Guangdong. The architectural style is typical Lingnan style, which is relatively complex and colorful. The whole building uses various sculptures, paintings and other decorations. We walked from front to back. The wood carvings of crayfish and crabs were carved from a piece of wood, which was really amazing. I found that there are really a lot of ivory products and wood carvings in Guangzhou. This multi-layered ball is also carved as a whole. Various beautiful collections. The glass windows in the ancestral hall are very beautiful, elegant and vivid. It is my favorite decoration in the whole building. After a walk, we came out and found four small doors at the entrance of the ancestral hall. I only knew one of the words on the door. This should also be particular, but I don't know.

10 yuan a ticket is not common in big cities nowadays. But I don't understand why many attractions in Guangzhou require ID cards. I can't buy tickets without my ID card, which is not very friendly for people like me who like to leave their ID cards in hotels.

Based on my limited knowledge of ancient buildings such as ancestral halls and temples in the South Vietnam region, this is the gorgeous and colorful carved corridor lintel glazed tiles. Several internal museums are quite good, especially the gold-painted wood carving of a hundred birds paying homage to the phoenix, which really fascinated me.

Chen Clan Academy is the attraction I strongly recommend this time. It is the largest, most beautifully decorated and well-preserved traditional Lingnan ancestral hall in Guangdong. It is known as the "Pearl of Lingnan Architectural Art". It concentrates the essence of Guangdong's folk architectural decorative art, and cleverly uses decorative arts such as wood carving, brick carving, stone carving, plaster sculpture, pottery sculpture, copper and iron casting and painting. It is a brilliant palace of folk decorative art. Chen Clan Academy has as many as 284 architectural sculptures, including 58 stone carvings, 57 wood carvings, 57 plaster sculptures, 58 pottery sculptures, 41 brick carvings, and 13 copper and iron castings and murals. Chen Clan Academy is a national key cultural relic protection unit.

This place can only be compared with other places in the construction industry. I compare it with the Forbidden City. The architecture of Jiangnan pays attention to details, materials, and workmanship, which are all reflected vividly here. The details are much better than those of the Forbidden City. If you want to understand the essence of Jiangnan architecture, I recommend you to come here. If you have no interest in architecture, there is nothing fun here.

By Eye Color Mirror |

"Chen's Academy" in black letters on a red background stands solemnly above the gate, combining traditional door gods with the unique border patterns of Cantonese houses, black tiles, green bricks, red lanterns, brick carvings, wood carvings and colored glaze paintings.

As you enter the gate, you will find the courtyard has a grand and reasonable layout. It has a large hall with a symmetrical central axis like the Forbidden City, with three consecutive entrances, as well as covered corridors on both sides and side doors, which are as graceful as the style of Jiangnan gardens.

The doors in the ancestral hall are also unique, and the same style appeared in the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall and other places later. The doors are long and vertical, and there are many doors side by side. Each door in the hall is not just one door, but composed of multiple doors. Not only the doors, but even the windows are of the same style.

The afterglow of the setting sun made the already magnificent courtyard look hazy and misty, and rays of setting sun shot into the courtyard.

By kiki seven |

The ticket is ten yuan. When you arrive at the entrance of the scenic spot, you can scan the code to buy the ticket online and swipe your ID card to enter the scenic spot.

Walking in the deep corridor, the strong historical atmosphere hits you.

The carvings everywhere in the courtyard are extremely beautiful. I remember that each grid of this door is carved with a classic story from the Water Margin. He Miao was very curious and wanted to touch it.

Traditional architectural decorations such as wood carvings, stone carvings, brick carvings, pottery sculptures, and plaster sculptures can be seen everywhere.

There are thousands of paintings, but no two are alike in style. They are all created by the rich imagination of the artists. Those who are interested in ancient architecture and history must go and see them.

It's very big inside and there aren't many people, so it's very comfortable to walk around.

By Leaf 🍃 |

The yard is not big, but the building is really exquisite!

On the clean gray wall, there are various patterns carved, and under the clear sky, there is a colorful scene, a realistic version of carved beams and painted buildings. There are many colors but not mixed, and the patterns are complicated but not messy. The contrast between red, yellow and blue is elegant and not vulgar! I am at a loss for words!

Most of the rooms are filled with various displays and exhibitions, including altars and ranking displays, ivory carvings, embroidery exhibitions and the like. Of course, there are also souvenir shops ORZ and some organizations such as Lei Feng charity classes that have moved in to teach weaving and other handicrafts for free.

The statue in the backyard is called "Storyteller".

The fences are all carved! The best thing is: there are many tables and chairs under the eaves and next to the railings. When the weather is good, I really want to sit there for a day~ It will definitely not be boring, drink tea, read paper books, and paint a watercolor painting if you are capable! The greatest charm of ancient Chinese architecture is that it allows people in it to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the modern world, no longer want to touch those electronic devices, and pretend to be able to return to the wealth of the other world, a modest gentleman, leisurely and leisurely; a beautiful girl from a small family, looking forward to the passing time.

By China-TravelNote users |

Actually, how should I put it? It's a pretty good place! Before I went there, I didn't think the architecture was very attractive. After I went there and experienced the retro and old buildings, I realized how admirable our country's architecture is, those colorful kilns, those lifelike sculptures, those antique furnishings and those interesting small accessories! The whole garden is full of retro atmosphere, and you can see the true craftsman spirit in it. An olive pit can be carved into so many shapes. The effort and spirit in it must be extraordinary. This should be the so-called craftsman spirit! It's a pity that I didn't have time to appreciate it carefully there. I will go there again next time if I have the chance!

Chen Clan Temple, also known as "Chen's Academy", was completed in the 19th year of Emperor Guangxu's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1893). It was a clan temple built in Guangzhou by Chen clans from all over Guangdong at a cost of over one million taels of silver, with the best craftsmen and materials used. The Qing government was worried that the establishment of a clan temple would lead to mass gatherings and pose a threat to the regime, so it prohibited the construction of clan temples by the public. Therefore, the person in charge at the time called Chen Clan Temple Chen's Academy.

The Chen Clan Ancestral Hall is not very large. Its structure is divided into three axes and three entrances. It has nine halls and six courtyards, covering an area of 15,000 square meters and a building area of 8,000 square meters. There was originally a pool and a flagpole in front of the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, which is a standard configuration of Lingnan clan ancestral halls. Later, the pool was filled and a house was built. Now, after being demolished, it has been turned into a square, and the flagpole has been restored to its original state. The flagpole is a symbol of the honor of the clan. Only after the imperial examination is awarded "flag plaque silver" by the court, can the clan members set up a flagpole for the candidate in front of the ancestral hall and raise the flag to honor the family. The stone on the flagpole is also engraved with the name, time, and ranking of the candidate, showing the name recognized by the country and representing the reputation and glory of a clan.

The biggest attraction of Chen Clan Academy is that it integrates a variety of architectural decoration techniques unique to Lingnan, including "three carvings, two sculptures, one casting and one painting", namely wood carving, brick carving, stone carving, pottery sculpture, gray sculpture, copper and iron casting and painted murals. Almost all the halls, courtyards, corridors, halls, doors, windows, railings, walls, roof ridges and beams in Chen Clan Academy show the superb skills unique to Lingnan architecture. The content covers historical stories, opera librettos, religious myths, folk legends and secular life, etc. It feels like all the stories and characters in Chinese history and literary masterpieces can be displayed once, so that cultural people will feel that they know too little. In addition, there are auspicious patterns such as flowers, birds, insects, fish, auspicious birds and beasts, as well as calligraphy and poetry. It is known as the "Pearl of Lingnan Architectural Art". It is the largest, best preserved and most beautifully decorated ancestral hall-style building in my country. It is worth slowly appreciating. When Mr. Guo Moruo visited it, he praised: "The work of man can replace the work of nature, but man's work is not as good as nature's. It is true that creating the world is worse than reading for ten years."

When traveling to Guangzhou, the most famous place to visit is the "Eight Scenic Spots of Guangzhou". If you miss Chen Clan Academy among the "Eight Scenic Spots of Guangzhou", it can only be said to be a pity. Chen's Academy, commonly known as Chen Clan Academy, was planned and built in the 14th year of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1888) and completed in the 20th year of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1894). In 1988, the State Council announced that Chen Clan Academy was a national key cultural relic protection unit. On July 26, 2002, Chen Clan Academy was selected as one of the "Eight Scenic Spots of Guangzhou in the New Century" with the name of "Ancient Temple with a Good Reputation".

Chen Clan Academy is a courtyard-style building complex, consisting of 19 large and small buildings: the central road is the main line, surrounded by halls and wing rooms on both sides, and interspersed with courtyard corridors. Each building is separated by Qingyun Lane and connected by corridors. The courtyards are separated and the layout is rigorous and symmetrical. The space is spacious, the halls are tall and majestic, and the corridors are beautiful and the courtyards are elegant. In terms of nature, Chen Clan Academy is a clan ancestral hall built with donations from Chen clan members in 72 counties of Guangdong Province. It is a very typical Guangdong folk ancestral hall.

Chen Clan Academy is known as the "Pearl of Lingnan Artistic Architecture" and "The Crowning Clan of Guangdong Province", and is a culmination of Lingnan architectural decorative arts. Among them, the "Seven Wonders" decorative art, which is famous for three types of carving (wood carving, brick carving, stone carving), two types of sculpture (ceramic sculpture, gray sculpture), colored painting, and copper and iron casting, embodies the essence of Guangdong's carving art. The "Seven Wonders" are cleverly integrated with the ancestral hall architecture, complementing each other and making people marvel. And the "Seven Wonders" are carved with countless historical and cultural stories, making Chen Clan Academy a magical building where even wooden pillars, screen doors, eaves, flower covers and shrines can tell stories.

Chen Clan Ancestral Hall is a representative building of Lingnan ancestral halls. The architecture, plaster sculptures and carvings inside are really unique, exquisite and grand. Now it is also a display hall for Guangdong folk crafts. The art of Lingnan skilled craftsmen is also eye-opening. Especially these vivid plaster sculptures on the ridge of the gate. If you look closely, the characters' movements and expressions are vivid. There is also a miniature gate archway with colorful paintings. The displays in the folk exhibition hall are orderly and vivid, so that viewers will be interested in understanding various forms of Guangdong folk art after watching it.

Chen Clan Academy is the first stop of our trip to Guangzhou. It is very convenient to get there. You can take the subway and walk a few steps to the Chen Clan Academy station.

Chen Clan Academy is the largest, best preserved and most beautifully decorated ancestral temple building from the Qing Dynasty in Guangdong. Therefore, if you come to Guangzhou and like to see humanistic architecture, you must come to Chen Clan Academy to see it. The architecture is really unique.

During the Spring Festival, there will be a huge flower market next to the Chen Clan Academy. It is very lively with lights and decorations. I recommend that friends who come to Guangzhou during the Spring Festival must come and take a look.

I first learned about Chen Clan Academy when I was in college. An online singer wrote a song called "Xiguan". At the beginning of the song, there was a subway announcer announcing the arrival of Chen Clan Academy subway station. I did some research before coming here. It turned out that it was a college in history. The courtyard is not big, and the ticket is not expensive, only 10 yuan. The carvings on the courtyard wall make people feel that it is worth the money. There are all kinds of carvings, including wood carvings, stone carvings, brick carvings, pottery sculptures, plaster sculptures... Some of the skills seem to surpass those of the Forbidden City.

Chen Clan Ancestral Hall was originally a "Chen Clan Academy" built between the 14th and 20th years of the reign of Emperor Guangxu. It was a "clan ancestral hall" donated by Chen clans from all over Guangdong Province to provide accommodation for Chen clan children during their imperial examinations or official duties in the provincial capital. At the same time, as a reward for the donations, each clan could place the tablets of their ancestors in the shrine of Chen Clan Academy for worship. It is said that during the Republic of China period, there were as many as 10,000 tablets of Chen clan ancestors enshrined in the shrine, so this academy was also commonly known as the "Chen Clan Ancestral Hall".

In fact, during the Anti-Japanese War, Chen Clan Academy did not suffer much damage. In 1957, after the founding of New China, Chen Clan Academy was renovated. In 1959, it was nationalized from the ancestral hall and became the Guangdong Folk Museum, but the tens of thousands of tablets in the ancestral hall remained the same. It was just unexpected that Chen Clan Academy, which had experienced the war years, could not escape the man-made destruction during the war. Tens of thousands of tablets were burned down by the fire, and only two tablets survived. The large murals in the academy and the gate of the academy were also severely damaged. What we can see today is the academy that was restored in 1983, which is always a pity.

It was raining heavily when I visited Chen Clan Academy. Standing under the corridor, I saw the pottery ridge decorations and carved paintings become more vivid after being washed by rain. Walking in the academy, the architectural decorations with southern Guangdong characteristics are impressive. Every brick and tile, every window and every door shows the efforts of the anonymous folk craftsmen.

By Exclusive Traveler |

From the perspective of a Guangzhou native, Chen Clan Academy has indeed exceeded my expectations and imagination. Exquisite carvings are everywhere and the colors are bright and colorful. It is a must-see attraction in Guangzhou!

By China-TravelNote users |

Come here to play! You must have a guide to explain the history of the academy to you. The architectural style is very unique. The sky was clear that day☀️, and the sun walked rhythmically on every carved figure. Against the backdrop of blue sky and white clouds, the building is even more magnificent.

Guangzhou Folk Arts and Crafts Museum, a must-see attraction in Guangzhou

By Linda MM |

Among the attractions in Guangzhou, Chen Clan Academy is definitely not to be missed

By half moon temperature |

Is there anyone who would like to share a house in Chen Clan Academy Community in Laoxiguan, Guangzhou? It is a convenient place for eating, drinking, playing, clothing, food, housing and transportation. You don’t have to worry about it.😬😬

By Waterwood Years |

I passed by but didn't go in. I needed a ticket, but my sister didn't want to go in because she went there. In fact, it looks antique from the outside, which is pretty good.

By orchid |

Scan the QR code on WeChat to buy tickets, full ticket is 8 yuan. Use ID card to enter the park. I was amazed by the exquisite carving technology. I had to wear headphones to listen to the explanation, so I couldn't get the explanation, so I just looked at it by myself.

By Xiao Dong |

The fourth stop of this Guangzhou tour, the exquisite architectural craftsmanship will leave you dumbfounded. You can rent a self-service audio guide at the service desk, and you can follow the full tour of Chen Clan Academy. The audio guide must be returned before 5 o'clock, and it takes 2 hours to listen once.

By Ni Xiaoni |

It's not easy to avoid taking photos of people when visiting scenic spots during the Spring Festival~

Chen Clan Academy is a place where you need to listen carefully to the explanation. It doesn't matter if you don't invite a narrator. I feel that many classics in Guangzhou have TV commentaries, which is great. After listening, it is easier to understand, otherwise it is easy to just rush through.

By Tamama |

A very good tourist attraction. In addition to the architectural features itself, there are also some exhibits that are worth seeing.

By Ugly and stupid looking at the world |

The carvings are intricate and exquisite. The southerners' aesthetic taste for craftsmanship is indeed meticulous and the various ingenuity is amazing.

By Night view of mountains and rivers |

The buildings inside are very delicate, and the carvings on the roofs are quite ingenious. There is a large courtyard inside, with several entrances. The weather is hot, and many people are enjoying the cool under the corridor, making people completely forget that it is winter. There are many exhibits preserved inside, which are the crystallization of ancient art.

By 1985 |

It is a tourist attraction worth visiting, very close to the subway station. The building is very beautiful and there is still something to see.

By Westbrook |

I like ancient buildings. The ancestral halls and courtyards of Guangfu are still very interesting.

By Si Er |

My mother is much less interested in cultural attractions than natural landscapes, but she is particularly satisfied with the Chen Clan Academy, which shows how great the charm of this place is.

The only drawback is that there are too many people, and if you are not careful, the photos will be blurry.

By June Lotus |

Many people come here. It is a must-visit place in Guangzhou. The carved beams and painted buildings are top-notch.

By Sveta |

I like the stone and wood carvings on the roof. The ones on Chen Clan Ancestral Hall are stone carvings.

The layout of this ancestral hall is similar to that of our village, probably because they are both ancestral halls in Guangdong.

By xln |

If you like history and culture, you can come here and have a look.

By Heroes Don't Ask |

You can finish the tour in an hour. The outside is more distinctive.

By Yu Shen Mu Yue |

It is definitely worth a visit, the tickets are cheap and the content is rich

As one of the eight scenic spots in Guangzhou in the new century, Chen Clan Academy is the epitome of traditional Lingnan ancestral hall-style architecture and is worth a visit!

By Zhuge Runzhi |

This is a very exquisite place, worth a whole day to see, the decoration is intricate and beautiful.

By Forever 29 and a half |

It's a pretty good Lingnan building with exquisite craftsmanship. The exhibition is also well organized and very interesting. It's worth a visit.

By The mouse loves the cat |

Chen Clan Academy can be said to be a typical Lingnan ancestral hall in its truest sense.

By Chen Xiaoqiong |

What is worth admiring is the carving art on the roof...

By Deer Lady Loves Traveling |

All the details are ingenious and exquisite. I really think this place is very, very beautiful. Everyone must come and experience it. Don't forget to play an old Cantonese song to appreciate its beauty even more.

By Little flowers falling |

This is probably the most famous ancient building in Guangzhou. People who come to Guangzhou usually visit this place.

Of course, it is really just a huge residential building. If you are not interested in architecture, you can ignore it. But if you like to see architecture like me, you must come.

By Thirteen pieces of dessert |

Now it is also the Guangzhou Folk Art Museum. The building is very distinctive and suitable for visiting.

By Rest, little thief |

The building is very distinctive, covers a large area, and has intricate and gorgeous decorations. It is also a folk museum that exhibits a large number of Lingnan handicrafts, which is very informative.

By China-TravelNote users |

Beautiful architecture, skilled craftsmanship. Breathtaking.

By Lustful little eyes |

The stone carvings are very delicate and antique, not bad.

By Lizee_Z🦁 |

The weather was very good, with blue sky and white clouds, the architecture was very delicate, and the carvings were meticulous. The ticket cost ten yuan, and there was a folk craft museum inside, which was worth a look.

By China-TravelNote users |

Very good, a concentrated expression of Lingnan culture, amazing

By sssd- |

I think the ticket cost 10 yuan, I forgot, anyway it was very cheap, you can take a look at the architectural style, especially the eaves, both the color choice are relatively rare, but I finished the tour very quickly, I feel that one visit is enough, I don't have the desire to go a second time.

Chen's Academy, commonly known as Chen's Ancestral Hall, is located on Zhongshan 7th Road in Guangzhou. Chen's Ancestral Hall is the most artistic architectural complex with Guangdong characteristics among the existing ancestral halls in Guangdong. It has a strict layout, exquisite decoration and magnificent appearance. It is a national key cultural relic protection unit.

By Mr. Jiang |

Worth a visit! Remember, this attraction requires an ID card for entry, and closing times are 17:00 pm and 8:30 am.

By A-REIKO |

I went there on September 20, 2017. At that time, many places inside were under renovation. It was okay to just walk around. I couldn't understand it without artistic talent. You will go through the security check before entering. There are souvenirs for sale inside.

By Little wandering |

Chen Clan Academy, also known as Chen Family Academy, is now the Guangdong Folk Art Museum. Built during the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty, it is a representative of Chinese ancestral temple architecture of the Qing Dynasty. The building is meticulously carved and is well worth visiting (I originally wanted to hire a tour guide, but... I'm too shy to do it, so I'll just have to ask for the explanation).

Modern ticket purchasing method: Tickets are ten yuan, and you can purchase them by yourself via WeChat.

This is what the carved beams and painted pillars mentioned in the poems are. On the one hand, I am impressed by their exquisiteness and delicacy, but on the other hand, I am tempted by the petty-bourgeois mentality - it's just a place to live, what a waste, what a waste.

Pottery carving, porcelain carving, stone carving, wood carving, gold carving, ivory carving...

What exactly is not allowed to be carved?

How many of these carving techniques have survived to this day?

If you hire a tour guide, you should be able to visit the place for a few hours while listening and watching. Without a tour guide, I, with my limited knowledge, can only appreciate its beauty without knowing its connotation.

Guangzhou, as a modern city with a long history, is also the center of Lingnan culture. Chen Clan Academy, which was rated as one of the new eight scenic spots in Guangzhou for its "ancient temple with a lasting fragrance", is a window to understand old Guangzhou. Every brick and tile here shows tourists its strong Lingnan flavor and historical imprint.

As early as the 1920s, the architectural decoration technology of Chen Clan Academy was valued by domestic and foreign architectural experts and scholars. It is famous for its exquisite artistic decoration and is known as "a pearl of Lingnan architectural art". It is a collection of the essence of Lingnan folk architectural decoration art, and is famous for its "three carvings, three sculptures, and one cast iron", and is known as the "crown ancestral hall of Guangdong".

By China-TravelNote users |

It is very convenient to get there as soon as you get out of the subway. It is recommended to buy an explanation package

By Deer sister meow meow meow |

This may be the most popular tourist attraction I visited on that trip. When you come to Guangzhou, you must visit some tourist attractions and see the traditional Lingnan ancestral hall-style architecture. This is also a folk arts and crafts art gallery. The tickets are not expensive and the scenic area is not big. You can finish the tour in a few steps.

In addition to the building itself, the cultural and creative products here are so surprising. The various auspicious beasts on the roof have been drawn into cartoon versions and peripheral products have been released. The tapes, folders, postcards and eye masks are all very cute!

By Luo Xiaoyu_Raining |

Apart from the buildings of the Chen Clan Academy itself, there are no collections with a historical flavor. Basically, there are exhibitions of various folk artists. But one has to sigh that there are many masters among the people!

By Maizitun |

It was near where I was staying so I went there first~ I bought the ticket on WeChat for 8 RMB~ The Chen Clan Academy is quite large, and the carvings on the roof and stone pillars are very delicate. Architecture enthusiasts may like it more~ There are also some handicrafts on display inside, but the souvenir shop is too small and the variety is too limited. I wanted to pick an olive carving, but I didn’t like it too much, and there were many people around, so I gave up~

By Fire fire fire fire |

The architecture of Chen Clan Academy is very distinctive, and the decorations on the eaves and roofs are intricate and exquisite, showing the superb skills of folk art craftsmen. The folk art exhibition inside shows tourists a more comprehensive view of Lingnan folk art. It is worth visiting.

By Small wood in the sun |

If I were to say where you can't miss when you go to Guangzhou, I would recommend Chen Clan Academy. It has the past and present of Guangzhou City, a miniature of Lingnan culture, and the architecture is well preserved. The only comparable place I know of is Wuhou Temple in Sichuan. But Wuhou Temple is still not as delicate and exquisite as Chen Clan Academy. I can only say that no words or photos can express its true beauty, you can only see it with your own eyes.

By Xiling Pork Chops |

The original site was destroyed for various reasons, and what you see now is a repaired and renovated one. There are carvings and hollowing out everywhere in the entire group of buildings, everywhere! There are also various images with different expressions on the roof. Every window, every door, and every tile is a book, telling Chinese traditional myths. It can be said to be a luxurious representative of traditional Chinese architecture.

Must-see attractions in Guangzhou, 8 yuan for adults, please prepare change

You need to prepare your ID card to buy the ticket, but it is worth it. It is a great place to check in and take photos. When we went there, we actually happened to see a model competition in Guangzhou taking pictures on site. This is speechless certification!

The attraction is right at the entrance of Metro Line 1, with convenient transportation. You only need to prepare 1 to 2 hours to visit.

By loulou |

Lingnan culture is worth seeing. During the National Day holiday, there are many people and the flow is limited. You must bring your ID card. You must scan your ID card when you enter the door after buying a ticket.

By Walking wood |

The ticket to Chen Clan Academy is 10 yuan per ticket. You can buy tickets online and enter the courtyard by swiping your ID card. This is one of the must-see attractions in Guangzhou. I think Chen Clan Academy is mainly for architecture. The stone carvings, wood carvings, brick carvings, etc. are all very exquisite. Chen Clan Academy also has many exhibits, which are quite interesting.
