Xiaozhou Village

It was first built in the late Yuan Dynasty and early Ming Dynasty, and still retains the lifestyle of people living in the Lingnan water village with small bridges and flowing water.
The main scenic spots include ancestral halls (Sihai Ancestral Hall, Yingshan Jian Ancestral Hall, Jian's Ancestral Hall, Dongchi Ancestral Hall, Nanjian Ancestral Hall, Suiqiao Jian Ancestral Hall) and oyster shell houses.
The oyster shell house is a peculiar building. The main building material is oyster shells, which are placed side by side in pairs and then mixed with yellow mud. One cannot help but admire the wisdom of the ancient villagers.
The alleys of the village are lined with cafes, teahouses and small shops selling special handicrafts, which are the favorites of literary youth. If you come here specifically to visit the special shops, it is best to come on weekends, because many shops are closed from Monday to Friday.

1. Attractions

①People's Hall

The auditorium has become a courier point, but I was a bit surprised by the police station next to it. It was a patrol bicycle from a long time ago!

② Shell-consuming House

The shell house is an eye-opener, but don't take it too seriously. It is a historical relic that has been poorly maintained and has changed its original appearance to some extent. There are many shops nearby, but I don't know if they are closed or business is difficult. Maybe it is a decline after prosperity.

Near the Haoke House, you can also find a small shop selling hand-woven products and succulents. I wanted to go in and take a look, but my stomach was rumbling.

2. Food

I didn’t find any shops that I couldn’t stop lingering. Maybe I didn’t shop carefully enough. My friend and I just randomly found a shop and went there. . . .

How to say, it's a bit difficult to evaluate, because it's still a village. I went there several times during college, and they were all building houses and cement roads. The last time I went there, it was a bit different, and some small shops were quite unique. The morning tea is really worth recommending. I took a bus from Guangdong University of Technology at around 5 o'clock to grab a spot for breakfast. It's really good value for money, really cheap, and I ate until I was full.

A quiet village in the bustling city, with characteristic oyster shell houses, quiet alleys, beautiful snacks (pork feet ginger, stuffed eggs...)

There is such a village in the fast-paced city, and many people come here to play. The natural scenery is very good, and many photography enthusiasts come here to collect inspiration

This is not a tourist attraction, it's a small village, the environment is dirty, the river water is smelly. The houses are all modern style. I experienced it myself, don't go there, anyone who goes there will be fooled.

There is nothing to see. It is just a village. It is messy and the environment is bad. I don’t recommend going there.

I went to Xiaozhou Village a few years ago. I was alone at that time, but I thought it was very nice. I walked around and stopped here and there, and even ate delicious fish balls on the street.

After officially entering Xiaozhou Village, I found that it is not an ancient town with many ancient buildings as everyone said on the Internet. It is true that it is built by the water, but modern buildings have long occupied the main trend. The occasional ancient houses are already dilapidated, and only the ancestral hall is still standing. However, the literary and artistic style is everywhere. Occasionally, I saw several young men and women in the studio painting, and there was also a young man who ran a shop and stood up to greet customers when they came. When there were no customers, he lowered his head to paint, immersed in his own joy.

Take the subway to Liede Station and then take bus No. 45 to Rongshutou to the last stop. Get off and walk forward to Xiaozhou Village. There are many artistic atmospheres and snack shops. There are many alleys and it is easy to get lost. Walk along the stream and you will reach the exit.

[The following text only represents personal opinions]

Even though I wrote a travelogue to complain about it, I still can't stop my fondness for Xiaozhou Village. In fact, when I arrived, I spent more time wandering around the residential area of Xiaozhou Village. Xiaozhou Village is actually a village. In it you can see the old house arrangement structure, the houses are closely attached to each other, the alleys are very narrow, and there are small ditches. These layouts made me feel like I was back home.

Only when you arrive at the Xiaozhou People's Auditorium can you really get to know the tourist attraction. There is nothing inside the auditorium, just a wall and a souvenir shop. Outside you can see a lot of tourists, who usually come here to rest when they are tired or to eat when they are hungry.

Oyster Shell House, you must take a photo of this place, because it is very unique, an old house with one wall made of oyster shells, unique. Wandering in the streets and alleys of Xiaozhou Village, you will find that there are actually many shops that wear and customize Hanfu, souvenirs/food/claw dolls, but you should pay attention that not all shops allow photography. When I went there, I took bus No. 252 and almost got to the end. I didn't eat here because I didn't know the price.

The above remarks are all my personal opinions. Please don’t criticize me if you don’t agree with them. Thank you.

I heard there is an antique coffee shop in Xiaozhou, so I came here specially. The whole atmosphere is amazing. The boss said it was a renovation of an ancient house from the Republic of China. The most amazing thing is the fruit tea and hand-brewed coffee, which are rich and delicious. The address is on the main tourist road, No. 7 Dongqing Street, the one with many colorful paintings at the door

It's just one village, it's not a big place and needs to be developed.

The urban village, which combines ancient and modern art, is a classic check-in spot for the artistic style.

The transportation is also convenient, with more than three buses available, preferably 252, 468, 45. The last bus is at 22:00 or 22:30

The waterways are intersecting with ancient docks, ancient bridges, clamshell houses, exquisite ancestral temples from the Ming and Qing dynasties, as well as many art studios, literary shops, and traditional food.

There are many longan trees planted in the village. It is the season now, and bunches of yellow longan are hanging on the branches, but it’s a pity that they are too high.

The food is relatively cheap and well cooked. The shops that are open regularly include Juyuan Sesame Paste near the People's Auditorium, Niangma Bridge Food, and the shop selling bamboo and wood products near Yuxu Palace, which only sells sesame paste on weekends. The coffee at the shop called Shufang between Sihaigong Temple and Xiaozhou Stone Bridge is particularly fragrant, and you can smell it as you walk by.

Art candidates will also come here for further study half a year before the college entrance examination.

This is a village with the flavor of an ancient village and a literary style. You can temporarily put aside your worries, walk around here, discover the beauty of life, and feel the comfort of the holiday...

Xiaozhou is the most Lingnan water village in Guangzhou. It still retains the last bridges and flowing water houses in Lingnan water village. Walking into Xiaozhou Village is like walking into a folk museum. It takes about two hours to visit Xiaozhou Village, and the round trip also takes two hours, so it was almost night when we returned.

The tourism index is generally within an hour of cycling. The living index is not bad, and there are many literary and artistic shops in the village.

A more artistic town with convenient transportation! Going there will make people feel very comfortable. The people there are very nice. I strongly recommend a shop called "Black Shop". The boss lady and the old lady are very nice. Even if you don't buy anything and just take pictures, they won't say anything. There is also a cat shop hidden in the alley, where there are many cats! Super cute ớ ₃ờ. By the way, you must go to the shore when you go there. You can often see many painting masters sketching, and they are all handsome little brothers! By the way, if you are a road idiot, you must find a public account made by the locals when you go there. There are many fun shops and maps in the public account. (After all, there are alleys everywhere, and it takes a long time to walk around if you are not careful!)

Xiaozhou Village, built in the late Yuan Dynasty and early Ming Dynasty, is located in Haizhu District, Guangzhou. It is the most Lingnan water village in Guangzhou. I also went there because of its reputation, but I didn't feel that way when I entered the village. It was more like a commercial village that was neglected in development.

The most magnificent building you see when you enter the village is the "Xiaozhou Village Auditorium". It is a deserted place, probably because it is the off-season, there are more grandparents sitting at the entrance of the village than tourists.

I bought a map of Xiaozhou Village there (5 yuan), but later found it was useless because there was nothing to see in the village.

I found a wall painting showing a "naughty kid" climbing a tree and poking a high-voltage wire with a stick.

There is a stream running through the entire village. The water looks like stagnant water and is muddy.

There is a very interesting stone bridge in the village. From there, you can see Xiaozhou Village in a very nice way, with the feeling of a Jiangnan water village.

There was a wall covered with oyster shells. When I got closer, I saw that they were actually oyster shells! It instantly made me feel more at home. The locals were really smart to think of using them to decorate the wall.

After walking around and returning to the auditorium, I took a different route heading east.

Not far away, there is a small temple, which should be the place for sacrifices in Xiaozhou Village.

There are many old trees in the village. The trunk of one tree is very special, as if cooled magma flowed down and piled up together. There is also a giant tree that can really be regarded as a single tree forest, with its branches extending more than ten meters in all directions. Because the branches are too long, other trunks are used to support some places.

Some parts of the village are still under construction.

Continue along the path and you will see a different scene after passing the arch.

Going southeast, I have reached the end of Xiaozhou Village, where there are many awards won by Xiaozhou Village. I don’t know how these awards are judged, and it may be that I opened the door to Xiaozhou Village in the wrong way.

By Clouds, clouds, drunk, drunk |

I asked the subway staff how to get to Xiaozhou Village, and it turned out that the most reliable way was to get off at the "University Town South" station as recommended in the guide. After getting off, the only way to save time is to call a taxi, which costs about 20 yuan. Xiaozhou Village is a walk around the river. Most of the shops are small shops like pork trotters. I can only say that it is worth experiencing, but it is not as good as recommended in the guide. It took me about an hour to walk around. On Saturdays and Sundays at around 1:30 pm, the residence of the "self-combed women" is open to the public for free. The more distinctive one is the oyster shell house building. Taking pictures is a bit of Jiangnan style.

By China-TravelNote users |

It's pretty good. It's suitable for elderly people to walk around. Each store has its own characteristics and the prices are reasonable. I didn't know there was such a place before. This software is very good.

By caterpillar |

This place is usually described as a tranquil Lingnan water town, but it is recommended not to have too high expectations of a "water town". It is just a river, and most of the houses on both sides are not quaint.

However, there are still surprises hidden in some corners, such as the people's commune in the auditorium, the graffiti of artists, the quiet courtyards for resting and the literary shops for browsing. The old times are still traceable. If you walk around casually, you may encounter beauty inadvertently.

By Guo Nimei |

We returned to the subway [Yuzhu Station] by the same route, followed the navigation to take the subway to [Keyun Road] Station, and then transferred to bus No. 764, got off at Xiaozhou Village, or other subway stations have buses to Xiaozhou Village. The bus supports WeChat applet payment, and there are instant discount activities. On the way to Xiaozhou Village, you can just see the small waist. There is no traffic jam on the road, and it takes about half an hour to get there. At the main entrance of Xiaozhou Village is an archway with Yingzhou written on it, and Xiaozhou Village is inside. A yellow-painted Xiaozhou People's Auditorium stands prominently in front of you. This is a product of the 1950s. It is said that it is now mostly used for performances and exhibitions. The small bridges and flowing water of the Lingnan water village are still preserved here. The houses are built along the river. Centennial banyan trees can be seen everywhere. The ancient ancestral halls and temples add a heritage here. It is said that there are many studios in Xiaozhou Village. Imagine sketching under the shade of the trees, how pleasant it is.

Xiaozhou Village: A small village with an artistic atmosphere. If you are a girl with a girly heart and are tired of visiting online celebrity shops, you can go to Xiaozhou Village to have a look. Your heart will be very peaceful and you will feel happy for no reason. It is also very suitable for taking artistic photos.

Xiaozhou Village is known as the "Guangdong-style Gulangyu Island" and was my personal favorite during my trip to Guangzhou last year. Last year, I wandered around there slowly until 10 pm, taking photos of countless charming details, but I didn't leave a satisfactory personal commemorative photo. So, on my last day in Guangzhou this time, I came to Xiaozhou Village again.

By China-TravelNote users |

It doesn't have any special features, the kind that you won't be able to find no matter how hard you look.

By L Candidate |

I don't recommend going there. It's just a small village with no scenery. Those shots were deliberately posed. It was very sad to go there. It was a serious waste of time. As for taking pictures, I took very few. There were only some small shops selling things there. It's better to go to Shamian.

By JoJo Jiang |

The ancient arcade is not crowded and you can eat Guangzhou’s special snacks!

By Round little girl |

I went there in the summer, and there was a river in the village, with gurgling water and shops on both sides that were very literary and fresh.

By @Leesplace |

This attraction is a bit tricky. The scenery really requires eyes to discover its beauty. The transportation is very inconvenient.

By 【X】Dream╰A Lost Mind |

It's not that great. I went there after seeing the places recommended by netizens on China-TravelNote, but I really felt that it was just like that. Where is the so-called Lingnan culture? I didn't see it. Some local residents just opened some small shops in their houses. There is no special feature. If you are looking for small bridges, flowing water and people, then you should go to Xitang, Wuzhen and other places.

By Four Girls Bobcat Uncle |

Compared with Guangzhou, it is an older residential area with small bridges, flowing water and houses, giving it a genuine Lingnan impression. Disadvantages: the streets are too narrow, new houses are being built everywhere, and small commercial art has begun to occupy the village. It is suitable for taking photos and strolling, but not suitable for being an inn because the space is small and there is not much that can be changed, and it is too noisy and bustling.

By ceciwu |

Guangzhou Xiaozhou Village is a village with Lingnan water town characteristics located near Haizhu and Panyu. You don't have to go to the ancient town outside the province to enjoy the small bridges, flowing water, withered vines and old trees. It is very suitable for a leisurely stroll here. The camera ran out of battery on the day of the visit, so I didn't take many photos~ I will go back to see how it has changed now if I have the chance.

By Born Free |

By Martian User |

Fortunately, Xiaozhou Village has not been completely submerged by the tide of modernization, and its traditional things are still being passed down. The rivers are winding and interlaced, and small bridges of various shapes are placed over the streams. The solemn ancestral halls are orderly, the ancient palaces are simple and elegant, and the traditional houses are scattered. Under the shade of the swaying green trees, it looks like an ink painting with streams, green trees, gray walls, plain tiles and other characteristics of Lingnan water villages.

By Xue Zhongren |

I went there in October 2014, with my father and sister, on a self-driving (bicycle) tour. We spent the whole afternoon playing along the small bridges and flowing water. There were many ancient trees with a diameter of more than one meter, which created a unique atmosphere.

Xiaozhou Village, which was built in the late Yuan Dynasty and early Ming Dynasty, is the most Lingnan water village "Xiaozhou" found in Guangzhou City so far. Xiaozhou Village is not big. It has literary shops and passers-by. It is suitable for cycling or walking slowly.

There are no bustling street scenes here, but more of a feeling and local scenery.

By Sheep eat meat, not grass |

Actually, I had high expectations for Xiaozhou Village. My colleague recommended it to me and said it was pretty good. It was the most Lingnan water village ancient village found in Guangzhou city so far. When I got off the bus, I felt a little disappointed. There was construction everywhere, dust everywhere, and the surrounding river was also dirty. But when I walked into the ancient village, I felt it was okay.

At first glance, it looks like other ancient cities, all built along the water, with specialty shops on both sides. But a closer look reveals its uniqueness.

Since this is an art district, there are studios everywhere, so how can there be no paintings in the studio village? There are also many shops where you can paint in a few minutes, in all kinds of styles. Thanks to this, the items sold in the shops include not only the goods from the Yiwu Small Commodity Market, but also some handicrafts with artistic elements and craft experiences, such as pottery, handmade leather goods, and clothing customization... Even when you take the bus, you can meet artists with long hair.

What makes it different from other places is that there is no one here at night, while other ancient towns become more lively as the night goes on.

Originally, we decided to stay in Xiaozhou Village. First of all, it was to make up for the regret of having visited so many ancient towns but never stayed in an inn. Secondly, I thought it would be more lively here at night... Who knows, man proposes, God disposes. However, this also indirectly proves that this place is still relatively simple. Late at night, I can only eat supper on the balcony and bask in the moonlight.

By Egg Roll |

I can only say it's OK. Many shops are very artistic. Suitable for taking pictures, suitable for partial photos.

By Jayshaw |

Xiaozhou Village is very small. The time it takes to get there by car is enough for me to visit Xiaozhou Village several times. But the leisurely life of the people living on the water and the numerous cafes are really my favorites. If it is not too far, I would probably go there every week.

Xiaozhou Village is a gathering place for literary and artistic young people. There are many small shops run by literary and artistic young people there. But it is also a winding road. Xiaozhou Village, a name that is very familiar to Guangzhou people, is a palace for artists. As far as I know, many people from art academies and cultural and creative industries have built their bases here.

Xiaozhou Village, located in Haizhu District, Guangzhou, was built in the late Yuan Dynasty and early Ming Dynasty. It is the most Lingnan water village "Xiaozhou" found in the urban area of Guangzhou. It has been listed as one of the first 16 historical and cultural protection areas in Guangzhou, and has been rated as an ecological demonstration village in Guangdong Province.

Xiaozhou Village is located to the south of the Pearl River, across the river from Panyu, to the east of Paifang River, facing Guanzhou Island and Luntou, and to the northwest of Tuhua Village. Xiaozhou Village was formed by the alluvial deposits of the Pearl River over thousands of years, covering an area of 6,013.8 acres, with rivers and streams up to 10 kilometers in the area. Villagers have been growing fruit for generations, and there are large tracts of fruit trees. Yingzhou Ecological Park and nearby fruit forests total about 20,000 acres, known as the "Southern Lung" of Guangzhou.

The last small bridges and flowing water houses in Lingnan water town are still preserved here. Walking into Xiaozhou Village is like walking into a folk museum. The houses are built along the river, and the residents live by the river. The century-old banyan trees can be seen everywhere, casting thick shades on the sun. The oyster shell houses that are five or six hundred years old bear witness to the vicissitudes of Lingnan. The ancient wells that you can easily cross in the crisscrossing fields have accumulated hundreds of years of sediment.

In addition to the ancient roads and bridges, the most eye-catching thing about Xiaozhou is its ancient oyster shell houses. The oyster shell houses in Xiaozhou have a history of hundreds of years. There were once more than a hundred of them, but now most of them have been demolished, leaving only 3, which are mainly preserved because the owners moved away with their families.

There are still many tourists in Xiaozhou Village on weekends. Local residents of Guangzhou also hang out here. There are also many farmhouses on the outskirts. The mud-braised chicken and roasted spare ribs are especially delicious. After a whole day of strolling around, you can have a delicious meal in these small restaurants before going home.

I went there alone. Before I went, I heard that this is a place suitable for literary youth. I took a two-hour bus from Liwan District. I was carsick and fell asleep all the way. I got off the bus at the entrance of Xiaozhou Village and walked about 600 to 700 meters to the auditorium. I regretted coming when I arrived. Except for the stinky ditch that accompanied me throughout the whole journey, which was very "literary", I didn't see anything in Lingnan style. The roads were dirty, the wires were randomly pulled, and the garbage was thrown around. The ditch was very smelly and I had to cover my nose, so I didn't dare to eat the food nearby. The water source was too bad. I started from the right side facing the auditorium. It took more than half an hour, but I didn't expect to go around and return to the original place, and then returned from the left side. I don't know why there are so many people. Here are the pictures of my footprints along the way. I didn't want to use the selfie stick I brought, so I took a few pretty good photos with the wall outside a school as the background.
