Chengyang Eight Villages Scenic Area is a scenic area with Chengyang Dazhai as the center, and the surrounding Ma'an Village, Pingtan Village, Pingzhai, Yanzhai, Dongzhai, Pingfu Village, and Jichang Village are added to the scenic area. Among them, Pingzhai has a drum tower square, and there are cultural performances every day, all of which are folk songs and dances of the Dong group, which are quite interesting. The performance time is about 10 to 11 am. There are farmhouses in the scenic area, and you can choose one to have a meal. The service is not bad and the price is also OK. Early in the morning, I saw villagers dressed up to welcome guests at the Fengyu Bridge. Door-blocking wine is an ancient custom of welcoming guests in the Miao village, but why it appears in the Dong village at this moment is unknown. During several conversations with villagers in Chengyang Bazhai, I learned that Chengyang is a mixed place of Dong and Miao people. The Miao people mostly live in the mountains, and the Dong people live by the water. So far, they do not intermarry, and the relationship is very delicate and tense.

Wandering around the village, every household warmly invited me to watch a performance: Lusheng Fighting. Having lived in the city for a long time, I was quite wary at first, but later I found out that this performance was free and it was not an organized performance for us to see, but a display of the villagers' daily customs. I was ashamed.

This is a relatively small and primitive place, with very affordable food and accommodation. If you are interested in Dong ethnic group's big songs and Lusheng, go there quickly, because it won't be long before this place becomes very commercialized.

The ethnic characteristics are amazing, and the folk customs are simple and unpretentious. It is much more than expected that there is such a place only more than 100 kilometers away from Guilin. Although the village is under construction, it does not feel commercial. Recommended!

The beautiful Dong village, the beautiful wind and rain bridge, the ancient alleys, the great air, and the chance encounter of a local guide (15977259616) who explained it to us, made it an in-depth tour of the Dong ethnic group.

Chengyang Bazhai in Sanjiang is about 20 minutes' drive from the county seat. Here is the oldest and longest wind and rain bridge in the true sense.

After crossing the Guoyang Wind and Rain Bridge, you will enter the Bazhai. It is a large village formed by eight natural villages. When I went there, it was under renovation. No entrance fee was charged (60 yuan/person), but a section of the road leading to the scenic area was also under renovation, so it was not easy to walk. At the intersection, a local farmer rode a motorcycle to lead the way into the village, 50 yuan per car. After driving in, I realized that the road was not long, but outsiders didn't know which road to take to enter the village, and they were unsure about taking the bad road. They didn't know what the road conditions were ahead, and whether they could pass through. They had to pay 50 yuan obediently, just as if they had bought the ticket.

The villages in the village are scattered, the stone steps are narrow and steep, the houses are dilapidated, and even the red lanterns, which are the common signs of the ancient town, are rare. It is very primitive. We were pushing the children, so it was inconvenient to go up and down, and the weather was too hot, so we just took a quick look and left.

This scenic spot is closed for construction, and the road in front of the scenic spot gate is completely impassable. There is no definite information on the Internet about whether it can be reached. The navigation also said that this road is blocked. I thought since I have come here, I might as well look at the map and try to see if I can enter through the back door.

From the drone photos, we can see that the stilted wooden buildings, drum towers, wind and rain bridges in the village and the surrounding mountains, rivers and fields form a unique and beautiful scenery. We entered from the big village behind the scenic area and easily found the Dasai drum tower. Like other Tong villages, the drum tower is the center of their village. It is also the place where the clan leaders of the village discuss matters and celebrate major festivals.

In the winter when farming is slack, the elderly in the Dong village gather in the drum tower to warm themselves by the fire and play cards, which is quite pleasant. The old lady warming herself by the fire looked at me, a curious tourist, and enthusiastically invited me to eat crabs. These pickled crabs have absorbed the flavor of spices and tasted quite good. More importantly, the simple villagers made me feel at home.

Walking into the Dong Village, you can still see the old wooden stilt houses everywhere. Compared with the Zhaoxing Dong Village, this place has more of a homely atmosphere. However, the newly built houses are not made of pure wood as before, but a new type of concrete brick and wood structure. Red bricks are laid under the reinforced concrete frame, and finally a layer of wood is pasted on the outer wall.

It consists of 8 villages, and the locals are warm and hospitable. The Dong village is famous for its architecture, represented by the Wind and Rain Bridge and the Drum Tower. There are many activities during the Chinese New Year, so it is suitable for a few days of rest.

Attractions: wooden wind and rain bridges made without nails, wooden houses (one of the few places in China that is better than Japan?), wooden houses built in a scattered pattern against the mountain, unique ethnic clothing and food. And the ethnic song and dance performances that I have been looking forward to seeing.

(But a small part of them are mixed structures, with the surface covered with wood. Most concrete houses in China are the same (except villas), without any characteristics. Houses with exposed walls can even be described as ugly. Locals say: A large wooden pillar of a full wooden house costs 5,000 yuan, and the wooden frame of a house costs more than 100,000 yuan. But the lifespan ranges from decades to hundreds of years. In Yanzhai, I saw a wooden house that had been built for eleven years, and the surface was as smooth as new. I thought it was newly built.)

The scenic area is very large, the roads are winding, and there are no street lights at night. I got lost, but fortunately I had a flashlight and managed to escape. No wonder "Skiptrace" was filmed here. But during the day, the scenery is really beautiful, with bursts of smoke from the burning wood of the villagers lingering here.



It is more suitable to visit the entire Chengyang Bazhai Scenic Area in one day.

The only activity I saw on the morning of the first day of the New Year was the bride carrying water, which was finally a little consolation.

I heard that there are local ethnic activities on the third day of the Chinese New Year every year, and it seems that the bride is asked to return home.

It is a pity that we cannot see any local ethnic activities (maybe the time is wrong?) and ethnic costumes here (the girls who fetched water for the bride wore ethnic costumes, and the only ones wearing ethnic costumes were the old women. Is this considered a degeneration of ethnic customs?).

It is quieter than Fenghuang Ancient Town and is definitely worth a visit.

There are no street lights in the village at night, so please bring your own flashlight.

On the sixth day of the first lunar month in 2018, there was a unique ethnic atmosphere and a banquet for 100 families. It cost 70 per person.

The sun is shining, and there are local characteristics of the Dong ethnic group. If you have a sense of ethnic minorities, you can go there for a visit.

This scenic spot is the main location for Jackie Chan's filming of Skip Hunter. Houses are being built everywhere in the village. Some houses have been under construction for more than ten years. It is said that they will not be completed until the children in the family grow up. I met a pair of women holding children. According to the local Dong guide, they are sisters who married into the village from Myanmar to avoid local drug lords. The village mainly features Dong folk performances and architecture. The drum tower is the center of each village and serves as a place for the elderly in the village to gather. Most of the young people in the village still work outside, and you can also see some of them who have made a fortune in business and returned to the village to build luxury houses.

We arrived at around 7pm in the evening. No one stopped us from buying tickets. We found a hotel and spent 100, which didn't seem expensive. We had dinner at the Dragon and Phoenix Inn next to the hotel. We saw two foreigners, who were probably here after watching Escape Plan. In the entire scenic area, only the Yanzhai Drum Tower is worth seeing at night. Other places are like a big construction site with rolling dust. The next day, we found a place to drink tea and chat with the proprietress. When we talked about cement houses, the proprietress looked helpless. She said that the road in front of her house has not been clean in recent years. Everyone wants to build a house to rent out and generate income. Cement houses are easy to make independent bathrooms and have good sound insulation. There is no way. They now distribute dividends of 200 per household a year, and each person gets several dozen. The bulk of it goes to the tourism development company. However, there are too many cement houses and fewer characteristics. Who would go there?

The Dong Village is very beautiful and unique, but it's a pity that we only stayed there for one day. If time permits, it would be better to stay for two more days and explore slowly.

Chengyang Eight Villages is located in Sanjiang Dong Autonomous County, Liuzhou City, Guangxi, 20 kilometers away from Sanjiang County. I paid the parking fee and the ticket, but on the way out, the locals drove tractors to stop me and charged me! ! ! No one cares! Although the money is not much, it makes people very uncomfortable! As a 4A scenic spot! The scenery of the village is very good. There are eight villages. The ones at the back are still quite original, and the ones at the front are very commercial. The local inns and stall owners are very hospitable. I sincerely hope that management will be strengthened and such good resources will not be wasted.

The local government should make good plans and establish characteristic tourist attractions according to the local architectural features.

The cost of entering the village during the festival is not reliable. 250+. Book the village homestay online before coming. Ma'an's Hundred Family Banquet is also not reliable. 60 per person. The dishes are not as good as the restaurants in the village. It is perfunctory. The show is faster than a cat.

There are eight villages. It is so beautiful to look for the drum tower of each village along the Xunjiang River!

Because we went there during the National Day holiday, there were a lot of people, and the small road leading in was also congested, so we could only take a quick look.

It takes about 5 hours to get from Guilin to Chengyang Bazhai! ! It's worth the effort, the scenery is beautiful, I think it's nice to live a leisurely life here for a few days, the locals are very welcoming, and each village has a drum tower.

The most famous Chengyang Bridge was built in 1912 and took 12 years to complete. It does not use a single nail or rivet, but is connected with wooden mortise and tenon joints. It is currently the best preserved and largest wind and rain bridge. With its superb wood and stone structure art, it is known as one of the four famous historical bridges in the world along with the Zhaozhou Stone Arch Bridge, Luding Cable Bridge and Romania's Nova Steel Bridge.

When we woke up in the morning, everyone said that the stay was good. I don’t know if everyone was too tired or it was really comfortable, haha! After breakfast, everyone wandered around the village. The scenery was nice and I took a few photos casually.
