Guilin's downtown attractions are famous for "Two Rivers, Four Lakes, Three Mountains (Xiangshan Fubo Diecai) and Two Caves (Ludiyan Qixingyan)". In a limited afternoon, I chose this place as my first stop to take a quick look. The ticket price is 55 yuan.

Take a taxi to Gate 1, walk to the right front, go up the very steep steps directly, see the tower and observation deck, pass through the elephant's eye, then go down the mountain to the most famous elephant trunk and take close contact with it and take photos.

Then go back to Gate 1.

Continue walking towards Love Island and you can take photos of Elephant Mountain from a medium distance, but the best spots are occupied by merchants, and you have to pay them to take photos, which is really disgusting.

There is nothing much to see along the Love Island all the way north, so finally go out from Gate 3 (North Gate) to Fubo Mountain.

Elephant Trunk Hill, formerly known as Li Mountain, is located at the confluence of Taohua River and Li River in Guilin City, Guangxi Province. The mountain was named because it resembles a giant elephant standing on the river bank with its trunk stretched out to drink the sweet spring water of Li River. It is regarded as the symbol of Guilin's landscape.



Elephant Hill is famous for its magic. The first is that it is similar in shape and spirit, and the second is that it creates a bright moon on the water between its trunk and legs, forming the wonder of "Elephant Hill Water Moon". Therefore, Elephant Trunk Hill is the emblem of Guilin and the landmark of Guilin tourism. It is located at the confluence of the Li River and Taohua River in the center of Guilin. It looks like a giant elephant. There is a round hole of about 150 square meters between the trunk and the legs. The river water flows through the hole like a bright moon floating on the water. The Elephant Hill Water Moon on the west bank faces the Moon Rock on the east bank of the Li River. One hangs in the sky and the other floats on the water, forming the peculiar landscape of "Li River Double Moon".



The main attractions of Elephant Trunk Hill include Water Moon Cave, Elephant Eye Rock, Puxian Pagoda, Hongfeng Temple and the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Revolutionary Relics Exhibition Hall in the temple. There is also the only remaining stupa of Kaiyuan Temple in the Sui and Tang Dynasties nearby. Water Moon Cave is close to the riverside, with the Li River flowing through it, like a floating moon in the water, and the rocks hanging into the water like an elephant's trunk drinking water from the Li River. The scenery is excellent and has been a tourist attraction since the Tang and Song Dynasties. The poem "He Shuiyue Cave Rhyme" by Jibei Hermit in the Song Dynasty: "There is a bright moon under the water, and a bright moon floats on the water. The water flows and the moon does not go away, the moon goes away and the water still flows." This vividly describes this scene. It is one of the first national AAAA-level tourist attractions, located on Binjiang Road, Guilin City, at the intersection of Taohua River and Li River. It can be reached by bus No. 2, 23, 16, 57, 58, and 88. It covers an area of 118,800 square meters and belongs to the karst landform natural scenic area. It is named because the shape of the mountain resembles a giant elephant drinking river water. It has been a famous tourist attraction since the Tang and Song dynasties, with a history of more than 1,000 years.

Elephant Trunk Hill is the most iconic attraction in Guilin. It is the only attraction in the Elephant Hill Scenic Area. Some people may say that it is a bit expensive to spend 45 yuan just to see this, so why not just take a photo outside the park? But the scenic spot is also very tricky. All the good photo angles outside the park are blocked by trees. When you walk to a place without leaves blocking the view, you can no longer take photos of the shape of the Elephant Trunk Hill.

There are three main routes in Xiangshan Park:

1. Take photos at the most classic angles of Elephant Trunk Hill

2. Go around the back of Elephant Trunk Hill and see it from the perspective of the elephant's trunk

3. Climb Elephant Trunk Hill and get a bird's eye view of Guilin

The most classic angle of the Elephant Trunk Hill is near Gate 2, but when we went there, the water level in the Li River was very low, and some tourists who took a cruise to see the Elephant Trunk Hill found it difficult to get there. There is a booth on the shore that rents ethnic costumes for taking photos, and the rental fee is 20 yuan per time.

After seeing the most classic angle, you can go around the elephant's tail and climb the mountain along the trail. Elephant Trunk Hill is not high, but the stone steps are steep and a bit tiring to climb. It took me less than 20 minutes to climb one way. At the top of the mountain, there is a slightly dilapidated "tower" made of bricks, which looks ordinary. After climbing to the top of the mountain, you can overlook the scenery of Guilin, but because there are residential buildings near Elephant Trunk Hill, all you can see along the viewing platform are residential buildings and the (slightly dry) Li River. The scenery is quite ordinary.

After reaching the top, follow the trail in the other direction down the mountain and you will reach the elephant's trunk.

At the best view point under the elephant's trunk, I was stopped by the scenic spot staff and told that I could take photos for free and get a 2-inch photo. What does a 2-inch photo mean? It's the size of a head ID photo. You can't see anything clearly if you take a full-body photo. If you need to enlarge it, you have to pay 20 yuan.

Later, when there were fewer tourists queuing to take photos, I shamelessly asked if I could take photos myself, and the staff agreed. The same thing happened at several scenic spots in the following days, where the staff circled the most beautiful places for tourists to take photos (about 20 yuan for large photos), but if there were no tourists, you could go there and take photos with your own camera, and the staff would not stop you.

When I was a child, I was particularly looking forward to the landmark of Guilin, Elephant Trunk Hill, which is known as the best landscape in the world. At that time, I felt so magical when I saw Elephant Trunk Hill while collecting stamps. I also always looked forward to coming to the hole of the elephant trunk. For a person from the northern plains, that feeling must be superb. After traveling to most provinces in China, I finally came to Guilin. When I saw Elephant Trunk Hill for the first time, although there was no surprise, it was still very beautiful. Especially when the lights were on at night. It was really not as good as expected here during the day. The water of the Li River was already yellow mud soup, and there were cruise ships everywhere on it. The bamboo rafts had long gone. Standing on the top of the mountain, the surrounding scenery had long been completely destroyed by the bridge and the dilapidated and ugly high-rise buildings. Later, I remembered a sentence Guo Moruo heard when I was in Wuyi Mountain. Now I think he is really a prophet! ?

When we arrived at the entrance of the Elephant Trunk Hill Scenic Area, we saw more and more tourists. It was a bustling place with tour groups wearing red, green and yellow hats, young couples holding their children, photographers with all kinds of cannons hanging on their chests, and smiling aunties wearing colorful clothes.

There are actually only two places to play in the park. One is the place to take pictures of Elephant Trunk Hill, and the other is to climb up the Elephant Trunk Hill and overlook the panoramic view of Guilin.

✏️Practical Tips: Our group of 4 landed at Guilin Liangjiang International Airport at 12:45 noon. The airport arranged a free transfer to the airport hotel (1 km from the airport). It was almost 14:00 when we arranged accommodation and put down our luggage. If we take the airport bus to various scenic spots in Guilin, it costs 20 yuan/person + two bus tickets in the city, which is time-consuming and laborious. We chose an online car-hailing service, plus 10 yuan for the highway fee, which is less than 70 yuan, and the return trip is also 60 yuan. The online car-hailing service directly takes us to Gate 1 of Elephant Trunk Hill Park. Turn right after entering the park to see the elephant's eye and climb Elephant Trunk Hill. Go down the mountain and return to the park gate, then turn left and cross the bridge to go to Observation Deck 1 and 2, imitating Li Zongrui and Xi Dada Check in at POS, exit the park from Gate 2, cross the road and turn right (north) to Sun and Moon Twin Pagodas Park, check in at the daytime twin towers, continue north, cross the road to Zhengyang Pedestrian Street, eat beer fish, authentic Guilin rice noodles, buy osmanthus souvenirs, go north to the street corner, cross the road through the underground passage to the East-West Lane, stroll through the East-West Lanes, enter Fangcheng and walk north to the city center, arrive at Jingjiang Palace, check in and take photos. It is already dark, so return to the Two Rivers and Four Lakes Wharf of Twin Pagoda Park to see the night views of these attractions, and then take an online taxi back to the airport hotel at 8:30 pm. When I was touring the two rivers and four lakes the night before, I mentioned Elephant Trunk Hill. I wanted to take a night view, but the boat slid left and right, and I couldn't get a good angle. I returned to Yongzhou this afternoon, and I came here to check in for half a day in the morning. Elephant Trunk Hill was originally named Lishan and Chenshuishan. Because the Shuiyue Cave at the eastern end of the mountain is like an elephant's trunk, the whole mountain shape resembles an elephant standing by the Li River drinking water, so it is called Elephant Trunk Hill.

There are merchants on the shore of the Elephant Trunk Hill who provide bamboo rafts for taking photos with cormorants. Each person is charged 10 yuan, and you can take pictures until you are satisfied. This charge is reasonable. If you are interested, you can keep a souvenir.

The peach blossoms and the Li River meet, and the solitary peak of Xiangshan Mountain is a sight to behold.

Compared with the mountains in Suzhou, the mountain roads here are obviously twice as steep. Because the mountains are small, the steps must be high to rise to the same height. We climbed all the way from the tail of the elephant to the highest point of Xiangshan, Puxian Tower. Standing on the top of the mountain, overlooking the Li River. Maybe because of the weather, the scenery is average. It took about three hours to visit Xiangshan Park.

There is not much to do inside the Elephant Trunk Hill, the main thing is to take a photo of the Elephant Trunk Hill. The Elephant Trunk Hill is completely blocked by the trees near the scenic area wall, and it is impossible to take a satisfactory photo from the outside.

Because the scenery in the city is average, it is a good place to overlook the city of Guilin.

It is in the city, so it is worth a walk. My wife's first reaction when she saw Xiangshan was that she had learned it in elementary school textbooks. Then I was confused. Haha, who can remember so many things from elementary school?

There is a tour guide explaining the whole 90-minute journey. On the boat, you can see the panoramic view of Elephant Trunk Hill from different angles. The tour guide said that the Elephant Trunk Hill looks different from different angles, sometimes like a mouse, and sometimes like a hedgehog. After the cruise, we went to Elephant Trunk Hill again. In fact, you don’t have to go there after the cruise, but the cruise is just for viewing from the water. You can actually climb up the Elephant Trunk Hill, but I’m too lazy to go up.

If you buy tickets for Xiangshan Park online, they will only be valid after half an hour.

Dozens of tour groups, huge crowds of people

It costs money to take a bamboo raft. Many tourists are queuing up.

The ticket is 55 yuan per person. It's a very small attraction. You can see the Elephant Mountain as soon as you enter the door. I took a few photos and there was nothing else to do. There was a man who released turtles. He asked you to touch a big turtle and then buy a copper coin for 10 yuan for good luck. After you bought it, he held two goldfish and asked you to come in and register. After you enter, he will tell you how good you look and how good it will be after you are released. Write down your name and fill in the amount below. You can see that others in front are 99 or 199. It's just like the old monks in some temples who ask you to write it voluntarily. They are all scammers. We left decisively. So, don't touch the turtle. It won't matter if you touch it twice.

Tickets are 55 per person. Apart from the iconic Elephant Trunk Hill, there is nothing else to do. Tickets are a bit expensive, but hotels are cheaper in the off-season.

My first impression of Guilin was when I went with a local one-day tour group. It was terrible. The beautiful Li River in my mind could not stand up to the noisy horns on the bow, the Yangshuo I had always thought of could not stand up to the dust flying on the roadside, and the story of Liu Sanjie could not stand up to the fake monks beside the big banyan tree. I really couldn't understand why those foreigners on West Street fell in love with Yangshuo. No wonder, I was there for only one day, but they fell in love with it over time.

The young tour guide recommended various self-funded projects from the beginning to the end, which was just like "the sunrise over the river is more red than fire". In this way, the one-day tour was as dull as water. I looked at the river and the tour guide who kept collecting money, and I felt that "young people do not know the taste of sorrow, they love to climb higher", as if the tour guide was the young man, and my last name was Chen and my name was Lou.

The second time I went to Guilin, I traveled independently and finally had some memories of the landscape and culture. It is said that Guilin's landscape is the best in the world. In fact, there are many places in Guangxi that have Guilin's scenery. Don't follow the crowd, walk your own way, and Guilin is everywhere.

At the Lijiang Pier, you can choose between short and long trips. The short trip takes about an hour and allows you to see the entire Xiangshan Mountain and several other famous attractions. The ticket price is 50 yuan per person. There are guides on the boat, and food and souvenirs are sold. It is a great choice for tourists who have little time but want to enjoy more beautiful scenery.

The long-distance trip starts from here to Yangshuo, where you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Guilin along the way, but it takes most of the day to get off the boat one way.

Anyway, I don't recommend this place. It's a rip-off. The ticket is really not worth it. You will regret it if you don't come. It will be even more regrettable if you come.

Xiangshan Park is the part of Lijiang River in the city. When we first entered Xiangshan Park, we didn't feel crowded. It was probably because we missed the time of the tour group. We entered the park at around 3 o'clock. We walked around the park for about 2.5 hours. There is a viewing cafe in the park, where you can enjoy the whole view of Xiangshan.

As the saying goes, the higher you stand, the farther you can see. The view from the mountain is very broad, overlooking the city of Guilin.

You still have to climb the Elephant Trunk Hill. Although it is not very high, it feels great to look into the distance.

All the photo spots with good angles are occupied by private bamboo rafts.

Generally speaking, people go to Xiangshan Park to take pictures of the elephant's trunk. However, as a park that is complained by locals and tourists, the ticket price of Xiangshan Park remains unchanged to this day, with the official website listing the price at 70... Tips: If you plan to take pictures of the elephant's trunk, go directly to Exit 2 after entering the park. The trunk is right there. Don't climb the mountain! Don't climb the mountain! Don't climb the mountain! I'll say it three times because there is nothing on the mountain. Although basically everyone knows that there is nothing in the park, it doesn't stop tourists from being obsessed with checking in.

These are all roadside scenery. Guilin has many trees planted along the river, which is very well blocked. Niagara Falls in Canada is on the roadside for you to see. The steps of Elephant Trunk Hill are very steep, so I didn't go up.

Guilin's iconic attraction is worth a visit. There are some exhibitions about the Taiping Rebellion. Climb to the top and the scenery is great.

It is no exaggeration to say that Elephant Trunk Hill is the most iconic business card of Guilin. When I memorized the entire Chinese textbook in primary school, the illustration of Elephant Trunk Hill and the text were deeply engraved in my mind.

The ticket price for Elephant Trunk Hill Park is 65 yuan, which includes the show. It is a rip-off because there are no tickets that do not include the show at night. However, the music of the show is quite nice. The lights are on the Elephant Trunk Hill, which is a good show. When I was taking pictures nearby, the chief lighting engineer was directing the show. I love the green Elephant Trunk Hill the most.

After the beautiful sunset in the evening, the gorgeous sunset dyed the giant elephant pink. The Elephant Mountain Water Moon located on the west bank and the Moon-piercing Rock on the east bank of the Li River face each other, one hanging in the sky and the other floating on the water, forming a unique landscape of "Li River Double Moon". In an instant, the sky was dyed crimson, like a magnificent red ocean, which was very spectacular. It was really "this scene should only be seen in heaven, how many times can people see it in the world". I encountered the most beautiful sunset at Elephant Trunk Hill. This trip to Guilin was really worth it.

I first came across Elephant Trunk Hill in my primary school Chinese textbook. The article “Guilin Landscape” by writer Chen Miao left a deep impression on me about Guilin, and Elephant Trunk Hill gave me endless imagination as a child.

The park has two entrances and exits, one of which is right on the side. After buying the ticket and walking down, you will immediately have a wide view and can see Elephant Mountain. From a distance, it looks like an elephant standing by the river drinking water. Looking back, there is also a cute little elephant standing in front of the post office. This is the theme post office in Xiangshan Scenic Area. When you walk into the post office, you will find a lot of souvenirs and postcards about Xiangshan Park. After sightseeing, you can also express a commemorative postcard to your relatives and friends.

The waters around the Elephant Trunk Hill are not wide but very green and clear. The mountains and the water complement each other, just like a beautiful painting. There are many fishermen and vendors on the riverside, and rows of bamboo rafts are parked next to them. They mainly carry tourists to visit the scenery in the river. Some fishermen also bring cormorants. It has long been heard that cormorants are good at fishing, but today the cormorants on the fishermen's bamboo rafts are not used for fishing, but for taking photos with tourists. They stand on the bamboo poles on the rafts with their wings fluttering, as if they are welcoming you.

My only knowledge of Elephant Trunk Hill is the iconic landmarks in the photos. However, this scenic spot also gave me the same impression. I can't help but feel that the 60-yuan ticket is the only choice for many tourists to check in. For the obscured Elephant Trunk Hill, you can't see it without buying a ticket. This has also become a hot topic for Guilin tourism.

The mountains are lush with trees and exquisite pagodas. The river below the mountain is calm and clear, and bamboo rafts and boats are floating on the river. Such mountains surround such water, and such water reflects such mountains. The mountains and waters are interdependent, just like being in a painting.

The Elephant Trunk Hill by the Li River is more beautiful at night than during the day. Only the tip of the iceberg can be seen outside the scenic area. After entering the gate of the scenic area, you can see elephant signs everywhere. Elephant Trunk Hill is open to Guilin citizens for free before 9 am, which is also convenient for citizens who do morning exercises. But the entire scenic area has been fenced off, so it is impossible to take pictures of Elephant Trunk Hill without entering the scenic area.

To take a panoramic photo of Elephant Trunk Hill, if you enter from Gate 1, you should pay attention to the small bridge on the left to cross to the other side. If you go straight ahead, you will first climb up the mountain to the Elephant Trunk Rock. The overall height of the Elephant Trunk Rock is not high, but the steps are steep, so you still need to be careful when climbing up and down. You can overlook the city of Guilin when you climb to the highest point. The Elephant Trunk Hill seen from this angle is still very beautiful, and the shape of the elephant trunk is particularly realistic. As the symbol of Guilin, the Elephant Trunk Hill is almost always crowded with people, and you can only rely on grabbing to take pictures. In addition to the iconic Elephant Trunk Rock, there are also attractions such as the Elephant Mountain Wine Cellar in the scenic area. If you are interested, you can also visit them slowly.

When I went there, Taohua River and Lijiang were said to be relatively low. If it were higher, it would look more like an elephant's trunk. I took a boat tour and it was a very interesting attraction.

Walking out of the path from the Sun and Moon Twin Towers, you will reach Binjiang Road. At this time, you can already see Xiangshan Mountain in the distance. This is near the Love Island of Xiangshan Park. I ran for half a day to find the ticket office, but I couldn’t get the online ticket. I was so drunk.

Going south along Binjiang Road is the main entrance of Xiangshan Park, and the No. 1 ticket gate is inside. The main entrance of the park is at the foot of Xiangshan Mountain. After getting the ticket, I went straight to the top of the mountain. The stone steps for climbing are very narrow and steep. There are many people going up and down. You must hold the guardrail next to you and take one step at a time. After a lot of effort, I finally climbed up the back of Xiangshan Mountain. From the observation deck, you can see the buildings and streets of Guilin City and the mountains and rivers of the Li River. The top of the mountain is very flat and not particularly large. It takes only a few minutes to turn around. From the back of Xiangshan Mountain, you can walk down the mountain to Xiangyan Rock. As the name suggests, Xiangyan Rock is the position of the eyes of the entire Xiangshan Mountain. After being exposed to the sun for so long, the breeze in the cave is particularly cool, and many people rest here.

The Elephant Trunk Hill Park is very small, and the Elephant Trunk Hill you can see is the main part of the park. It seems to be the dry season now, and the elephant trunk can no longer absorb much water.

When you go in, you will find that the classic photo-taking area with the elephant trunk is full of people. The bamboo raft side is also full of people. I walked around there for a while and then left. There were too many people, and it was not good to take pictures. After taking pictures, I walked around the park at the foot of Elephant Mountain. There was nothing new. You can go climb Elephant Trunk Hill later. The stairs to climb Elephant Mountain are super steep, so be careful when climbing~

From the top of the mountain, you have to go down the other side, not the original way. New paths and new scenery, passing by Ivory Rock (this cave looks scary at first, but the cool breeze inside makes people feel so comfortable that they can't help but walk in). Looking out from the cave, the scenery is great~ Next, walk to the wine cellar, and the aroma of wine is wafting. After going down the mountain, you can sit down and have a good rest in a pavilion by the river, enjoy the river view, and feel the cool breeze in the evening.

A great place for travel and leisure, I've been there three times.

I originally planned not to go into Xiangshan Park but just look at it from outside. To be honest, the 70+ ticket is not worth it. It's a very low mountain that only takes a few steps to go up. It only takes a few minutes to come down, and there is no scenery at the top...
