Huangyao Ancient Town-Stone Street

Huangyao stone-paved streets are one of the more famous landscapes in Huangyao Ancient Town. There are currently 8 of them, namely Jinde Street, Yingxiu Street, Tianran Street, Zhongxing Street, Anle Street, Lianli Street, Longpan Street, and Shanbang Street. The stone-paved streets of Yingxiu Street are the widest, about 5 meters wide; the narrowest is the entrance of Yangxiang Street, Jinde Street, less than 2 meters wide. There are meat stalls on both sides, and pedestrians can only pass by each other. During market festivals, traffic is blocked. After Huangyao Town was restored in 1964, wide new streets were built, but the old stone-paved streets were still preserved intact.

If you like old houses, I recommend you to go and have a look. They are all commercial in nature, with accommodation, specialties, and all food. It is recommended not to go during major festivals, as there are too many people and it is difficult to take photos. For accommodation, I strongly recommend not to go to "Ayao's House".

Advantages: On the snack street. Disadvantages: 1. Expensive. I booked a 266 yuan heated bed room on the eighth day of the Lunar New Year. It is non-refundable. After I arrived at the scenic spot, I found that there are many other people's 166 yuan rooms around that are better than this one. 2. The rooms on the first floor are all on the second floor. I couldn't sleep all night if I lived on the first floor. Because every step taken by the people on the second floor would make a loud noise and it was very noisy. I woke up at 2 o'clock in the morning. 3. The house has only a very small garden. It is impossible to go to the second floor to see the scenery. Because the second floor is all rooms, each room is door to door. 4. The room is not clean. 5. It is said on the Internet that the store will sing at night, but it doesn't happen at all. . Summary: Expensive, unclean, noisy and can't sleep. I don't recommend staying here. I will definitely regret it if I stay here.

I read a lot of reviews from fellow travelers before coming here. Some said it was worth a visit because the buildings here are ancient and well preserved from the Qing Dynasty. Some said it was not as good as other large ancient towns such as Lijiang and Fenghuang. After coming here, I realized they were all right. It is indeed not big, but compared to other ancient towns, it does have its own characteristics. The buildings are indeed well preserved. It does not have as strong a commercial atmosphere as other ancient towns. Although there are many specialty shops, bars, homestays, etc., what can we do without these tourists? There are also many museums here. I was also impressed by an 800-year-old tree. The figure of the ancient tree seems to have restored the scene in the ancient fantasy TV series.

There are currently 8 stone-paved streets in Huangyao, namely: Jinde Street, Yingxiu Street, Tianran Street, Zhongxing Street, Anle Street, Lianli Street, Longpan Street, and Shanbang Street. Yingxiu Street is the widest.

Stone-paved streets can be seen everywhere in Huangyao Ancient Town, and basically all of them are of this type.

It is worth a visit among the popular check-in spots.

Fortunately, it was early in the morning and it was drizzling, so we could see the most beautiful stone slabs.

By Happy Ranger |

The stone slab street is the essence of the architecture of Huangyao Ancient Town, especially the stone slabs are smooth and shiny after the rain, which is very charming.

This is a scam. I thought I had something to see with the 100 yuan ticket, but it turned out to be a commercial street. All the houses were either inns or shops. Why do you charge money for such an ancient town? This is the first time I have encountered this. Why do such scamming attractions exist? I am so disappointed.

The cobblestone streets here are very quaint and worth a visit!

The night in Huangyao is full of colorful lanterns🏮, which makes people happy💕

However, the streets and alleys are like a maze, and I got lost accidentally...🤣🎏

It's very comfortable at night, the night view is great, it's recommended to stay in the B&B in the ancient town, the outside is a bit low, the breakfast is very cheap

By |+Xin%| |

They sell sauces like fermented black beans and chili sauce, so you can smell the fermented black beans as soon as you enter the stone street.

People in Guangxi seem to like stuffed food very much. Most scenic spots offer stuffed pumpkin flowers, stuffed bamboo shoots, stuffed tofu, and fried fish.

I went to Huangyao in September and felt good. It is not particularly commercialized. There are few people and all the necessary equipment is available. It is good

By China-TravelNote users |

The buildings in the ancient town are quite ancient and there are many people, but there is nothing to watch at night, just watching the lights. It is not as commercial as Dali and Lijiang. If you really want to have a quiet time, this is a good place to go. You can take your parents and elders to have a look.

Huangyao Ancient Town is located in the northeast of Zhaoping County, Hezhou, Guangxi, 40 kilometers from Hezhou city and 200 kilometers from Guilin.

Huangyao Ancient Town is 3.6 kilometers in radius and has a karst landform. It originated in the Song Dynasty and has a history of nearly 1,000 years. There are eight major natural landscapes and 24 minor natural landscapes; there are more than 20 temples and shrines, more than 10 pavilions and towers, most of which are Ming and Qing Dynasty buildings. Famous attractions include the former site of the Guangxi Provincial Working Committee, the ancient stage, and Anle Temple.

Huangyao Ancient Town was listed as the third batch of "Famous Historical and Cultural Towns in China" by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage in 2007 and approved as a 4A scenic spot by the National Tourism Administration in 2009.

Everyone has a different perspective and a different feeling about nature. I personally recommend going there before the ancient street is over-polluted by commercial activities.

By Xiaomo Travel Vision |

On both sides are quaint old houses and shops, mostly two-story buildings. The somewhat desolate bluestone street has lost its former bustle and prosperity. Apart from the footsteps of tourists, the occasional shouting is a bit leisurely, but it makes people feel more peaceful. The colors of the carved railings and door lintels are no longer bright, but you can still feel the hustle and bustle of the old days. The vicissitudes of history have left deep marks on those mottled gray tiles and white black. It is true that the prosperity has faded, but the ancient monuments remain...

By China-TravelNote users |

Get up early and take a look at the ancient town in the morning, the river with a thin mist, the moist bluestone road, and the lack of tourists. You can deeply appreciate the quiet beauty of the thousand-year-old town at this moment.

By Annie |

The ancient town is not interesting at all. The most rewarding thing is to see a group of local dogs having a meeting. If you are a tourist who likes ancient buildings, don't come here. The buildings are just empty frames. You will be disappointed if there is no special features. Many places in Anhui with 20-30 tickets are better than this one. At least there are ancient buildings. It's okay if you want to relax on a weekend trip.

By Lin |

The streets of Huangyao are really confusing, crisscrossing each other. There are many alleys on both sides of the main street that lead to unknown directions. After turning two corners, you have no idea where you are. It is almost impossible to walk by looking at the map. You can only follow your feeling. Anyway, you can always get back to the original place after going around in circles.

I strolled aimlessly on the streets of the ancient town. The bluestone slabs reflected the skylight, and the raindrops fell on my shoulders. I forgot where I came from, and didn't ask where I was going. I wanted to write a poem, but I was at a loss for words, so I had to take out my phone to record this quiet moment.

The ancient town of Fenghuang was first built in the 35th year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty (1556), and has a history of more than 400 years. Despite the vicissitudes of life, it is still well preserved.

The ancient city has more than 120 characteristic dwellings from the Ming and Qing dynasties, more than 30 temples and pavilions, and is the county with the most cultural relics in southwest China. There are also more than 200 quaint stone streets in the city.

By Hey、Lxy |

It is a leisure, relaxed and cozy town with convenient transportation. The homestays there are nice and worth a try.

By FREE |

Very good, the stone road is shining, very historical. It is indeed different from other ancient towns. You can see the traces of life of local residents. It is worth a visit.

By Ralph |

Because I got up early and there weren't many people around, it felt pretty good to walk alone on the wet stone road.

By Jesse and Connor |

The shabby-looking stone road is actually one of the charms of the ancient town. Walking slowly on the thousand-year-old stone road, slowly savor the rich historical heritage of this ancient town. Before coming here, I saw some friends on the Internet saying that the stone road in Huangyao Ancient Town is very clean, but I never took it to heart. Only after coming here did I realize that the stone road in the ancient town is really clean. Although it cannot be said to be spotless, I was really surprised to think that the thousand-year-old stone slabs can be preserved so well.

This kind of narrow road can be seen everywhere in the ancient town. Basically, two people walking side by side can fill it up. The houses on both sides of the road still retain their original appearance. Even if there are damaged places, they are only slightly repaired. The whole town still retains a kind of original flavor~

There are clothing stores or jewelry stores on both sides of the cobblestone road in the ancient town. Although the people in the ancient town are not ethnic minorities, some of their clothes still have the shadow of ethnic costumes. If you find the right clothes, I really recommend buying them decisively~

Walking on the stone road, it is ancient and feels like traveling through time.

The stone bridge in the ancient town is a unique landscape of Huangyao Ancient Town. The streets are all inlaid with black stone slabs.

It is better to go in summer than in winter. The water level is lowered and everything is ready to come back to life.

By Nanjun |

The morning in Huangyao is the most beautiful, with the sun shining on the bluestone streets. Get up early and go to the breakfast shop run by locals to eat a bowl of black bean noodles. There are no tourists on the streets of the town, and the local residents are starting their daily schedules. Everything is so peaceful and comfortable.

By ∮Leaf Purple♂ |

The ancient town is well connected, and the streets are paved with stone slabs. Walking on them gives you a nostalgic feeling, which makes you slow down your pace, walk slowly, and live slowly.

By sweet |

At night, the red lanterns hanging high are the characteristic of Huangyao. The chirping of insects in the river and the thickening fog on the mountain make you feel far away from the big city.

By 殊濤 |

When you come to Huangyao Ancient Town, you can feel the "power" of National Day... There are so many tourists in this small scenic spot that you have to wait a while for fewer people to take pictures. But compared to the scenes of some popular scenic spots being overcrowded in recent years, this is still not bad...

Although there are many people in the scenic area, which breaks the tranquility and comfort that the ancient town should have, the ancient buildings here are well preserved. From the mottled walls and the "broken tiles and ruins" that have experienced the sedimentation of time, they can bring people a sense of tranquility and comfort.

In one of the commercial streets, villagers are leisurely chatting in front of their own doors, doing some small business in front of their doors, some selling homemade wine, some selling homemade spicy dried radish and other snacks. It is worth mentioning that the homemade chili sauce and some other snacks made by Huangyao villagers are really delicious and affordable. 5 stars recommended!

The original residents of the ancient town have moved out, and some of the original houses have been converted into very romantic cafes. This is a bit similar to Gulangyu Island in Xiamen, but the cafes here are simpler, with fewer people, and more suitable for daydreaming...

Some have been converted into restaurants and inns, but what is rare is that these external reconstructions have not affected the style of the ancient town, and the slow-paced life is still the main theme.

By Fat that won't go away |

Wuzhen is more "ancient", while Huangyao is more "old". Compared with the renovated small bridges and flowing water in Wuzhen, Huangyao is more original. This is an original and preserved ancient village embraced by karst landforms. The scenic area is integrated with the villagers of the ancient town, which is more considerate than simply staying in the tourist area.

The stone street is very beautiful! ! ! ! It is the road of the ancient town. There are inns and small shops on both sides of the ancient street. The commercial atmosphere is not too strong. Many families in the ancient town are locals who have lived there for generations, and the atmosphere of life is also very strong. The products sold on both sides of the stone street are homemade black bean chili sauce and homemade wine, which are not expensive. The locals are very simple and ancient, not as commercialized as other ancient towns. It is worth a visit! ! ! !

Once you get in, whether you like music or not, I recommend going to the CD section and buying a CD called "A Cloud". I 100% recommend it, it's nice and good. I regret not buying more. I listened to it live for a long time, tested the sound, and bought 5 CDs. A Cloud bought 3.

There are many people in the ancient town during the day, and the town is very crowded. We arrived at the ancient town at 2 a.m. and looked for a house in the ancient town at night. The stone streets were illuminated by red lanterns, and it felt very blurry.

I can't resist the charm of the ancient town. After living in a big city for a long time, the fast-paced lifestyle makes my heart lack of peace, more manic and uneasy. I like to go out on weekends to see the different world and different people outside. Huangyao Ancient Town is a good place for me! It was already dusk, I booked a hotel online, bought some snacks, sat on the roof of the inn, overlooking the entire ancient town, and my heart instantly calmed down! Black tiles, ancient buildings, alleys paved with bluestone slabs, and the air washed by light rain exuded the fragrance of soil! You need to buy a ticket to enter the ancient town during the day. There are people guarding every key intersection. There is no one to watch after 18:30 in the evening. It is recommended that you book an inn in the ancient town first, check in at night, and get up early the next morning to make money in the ancient town and take pictures! There is no need to buy tickets. The public service is that it is difficult to find toilets and there is almost no food in the ancient town. It is very convenient to go out of the ancient town. There are shuttle buses. I took a bus to Hezhou and then transferred to Guilin. The fare was about 25 per person, which was okay. The journey took about 3 hours. There are some farmhouses on the road to the station that taste good. I recommend trying them! The consumption level is not high! By the way, there is an auntie selling pickles in the ancient town that tastes good! You can also transfer money through Alipay or WeChat! Fashionable and stylish!

The original streets of Huangyao were all bluestone roads, which were very smooth and distinctive due to years of polishing. However, due to the construction in recent years, such small roads are becoming less and less.

By Left bank Mio |

It is quiet and simple, unlike Yangshuo, where you can hardly find a quiet place in the whole city. Here, you can enjoy every scene to yourself, the crisp sound of raindrops on tiles, accompanied by the nocturne sung by insects and elves, and sit down on a stone step anywhere, and hear the sound of chattering in the sunshine. Listening~listening~I seem to be back to my childhood, half asleep and half awake, and the adults' chats become the best lullaby!

The slate street at night has a different style from the slate street during the day. After nightfall, the street is quiet, but accompanied by the red lanterns, it shows patches of red light; the slate street in the morning has a special tranquility, it is the morning light, and it is the beginning of the day. There are no people coming and going on the street during the day, and no red lanterns at night. This is the purest street, the real slate street. This must-go road will give you different styles and scenery.

The ancient town was developed by the Huang and Yao families during the Northern Song Dynasty. Several rivers flow around the village and finally merge into the Guijiang River mentioned above. In ancient times, the river was relatively large, and people could take bamboo rafts to Wuzhou and other places. It is easy to get lost walking on the bluestone slabs of unknown age in the village in the shape of the Eight Diagrams. There are many banyan trees in the village that are hundreds of years old. Where there is water, there is a bridge. There must be a pavilion next to the bridge to suppress the water mouth. Now it is used for leisure and coolness. The water in the ancient well has been flowing for thousands of years and has not dried up. It is still used for washing vegetables, clothes, cooking and drinking.

By Excellent Ryoshi |

Compared with other ancient towns, Huangyao Ancient Town has a unique feature of stone slabs. The largest streets in the town are all paved with such stone slabs. Walking on them feels like walking in history. There are basically various shops and inns on both sides of the street. It is not fun when there are many people. But if there are fewer people, walking slowly on the road is still very interesting.
