Bing'an Ancient Town

I left the Big Waterfall Scenic Area in Chishui at 5 p.m. on February 5, 2019, the first day of the Lunar New Year, and headed for the nearby "Bing'an Ancient Town".

Because it was not far away, it was still light, so I followed the navigation to a parking lot by a big river. It is said that Bing'an Ancient Town is on the other side of the river, and tourists need to walk across the river via a bridge. I could only park my car here, but they only charged me 4 yuan for parking, which is really cheap!

I parked the car and took all the necessary items to prepare to check into the ancient town after the tour.

To enter the ancient town, you need to cross the Chishui River on a bridge. This bridge covered with Red Army symbols is very impressive.

I think all the ancient towns are pretty much the same. In Bing'an Ancient Town, the vendors and shops sell more red souvenirs, such as military caps, military bags, five-pointed stars, etc.; many of the shop names are also related to the Red Army;

The second thing is of course the lighting time, with the bright words "Bing'an" on the lanterns. The rest is no different from other ancient towns.

There seem to be only two gates in Bing'an Ancient Town: Taiping Gate and Donghua Gate.

Taiping Gate is the main gate, and tourists go up from here to enter the ancient town; Donghua Gate should be the back gate. Outside the gate is a deserted river beach, and tourists do not enter the city from this side.

Donghuamen is probably the most eye-catching historical site I saw in the ancient town.

After walking down a few steps and out of the doorway, I looked back and realized that this was the "Donghua Gate", another gate to enter and exit the ancient town. However, it was very deserted outside this gate, with very few tourists or locals. All I could see was a dry river beach. I wonder if the ancient wharf mentioned on the Internet is here.

Entering the ancient town early in the morning, after crossing the bridge and walking a short distance, I found that if I want to enter the ancient town, I must pass through a stone gate called Donghua Gate. Next to it is an extended mountain wall with a gatehouse on top. It is indeed easy to defend but difficult to attack. No wonder the Red Army’s First Corps chose this place as their foothold. It can also be seen that this ancient town has a history. The cultural IP created by the ancient town is two points, one is its long history, and the other is the holy land of the red revolution.

In terms of long history, to be honest, it is not that long. The entire Zunyi area was incorporated into the rule of the central dynasty after the Pingbo Campaign in 1600. Before that, Bing'an was just an obscure mountain village under the rule of a chieftain, with few written records. It really prospered during the Qianlong period, which is less than 300 years ago.

As for the revolutionary holy land, the main manifestation is that the Red Army's First Corps was stationed here during the Long March. I can say a few more words about this. There are two exhibition halls in the ancient town, one is the Red Army's First Corps Exhibition Hall, and the other exhibition hall is very interesting, called General Geng Biao Exhibition Hall, which shows the life of General Geng Biao. We know that the ancient town needs celebrities to bless it in order to highlight the sense of history and culture. At first, I thought General Geng Biao was from Bing'an. As soon as I went in, I found that he was from Hunan. At that time, he was the chief of staff of the Red 1st Division of the Red Army, and the Red 2nd Division was stationed in Bing'an. Looking at the introduction materials of the entire exhibition hall, it seems that General Geng Biao has never been in Bing'an, and the rank of the chief of staff has to be ranked behind several people. Why is there only an exhibition hall for General Geng here? It may be because the supreme commander of the Red Army's First Corps stationed in Bing'an at that time was a bit special, and it was not easy to set up an exhibition hall for him!

Transportation Tips

There is a tourist bus stop diagonally opposite (on the right) the road outside the Chishui Bus Station. Take the Chishui-Bing'an bus (about every 30 minutes) and get off at the iron chain bridge in Bing'an Ancient Town. The journey takes 40 minutes and the fare is 6 yuan.

The other buildings are not distinctive compared to Taiping Ancient Town. The Caoyun Bridge does not reflect the cultural characteristics. There is nothing else in the ancient town except for selling grilled tofu, restaurants, and bamboo industry specialties. Moreover, there are only three expensive B&Bs in the ancient town, and they are still full. The reception capacity is not enough and the reception level is low. Most of the accommodation in the ancient town is on the river valley road opposite the river of the ancient town. During the May Day holiday, it is expensive and the infrastructure is quite poor. There are also many hostels (forgive me for not seeing the accommodation environment and conditions of hotel level or B&Bs and youth hostels, which can only be called hostels) without rooms. In general, the commercial development is very chaotic and the tourism planning is a bit nondescript. The extra star is entirely based on the delicious and affordable grilled tofu and black jelly by the river in the ancient town, and the sincere and frank complaints of the small shops by the river valley about the scenic spot, enthusiastic service and non-cheap food provided by the shopkeepers.

It looks like a castle built on a big rock, surrounded by water on three sides, with stone gates and stone walls, and many wooden stilt houses built on the cliffs along the river. This is Bing'an Ancient Town.

Bing'an Ancient Town is on the other side of the Chishui River Tourist Highway and can be seen from the roadside. The entrance fee to the ancient town is 20 yuan. There are many accommodations on the roadside outside the ancient town.

Tickets are 10 yuan. I watched from the other side, but didn't go in.

A red cultural memorial site worth visiting, suitable for family outings

The place where the Red Army passed during the Long March, the red tourism project, the wooden building is indeed very old and original! The bacon is a must, highly recommended!

Bing'an Ancient Town is located in the south-central part of Chishui City, 12 kilometers away from the downtown area of Chishui City. In the past, Bing'an was full of wine shops and wine distilleries along the river, and was crowded with merchants. It was the most prosperous water and land port for shipping on the Chishui River, and it was also a must-go place for salt ships and merchants traveling between Yunnan, Sichuan and Guizhou to stay overnight.

Today, Bing'an Ancient Town has lost its prosperity, but it has gained the honor of being "China's Famous Historical and Cultural Village" and "one of the Four Famous Historical and Cultural Towns in Guizhou Province". In the past few years, it was listed as one of the 100 classic red tourism sites in China. The revolutionary traces of "beating the local tyrants and dividing the land" are still preserved.

It can be said that Bing'an has made an indelible contribution to the history of our party. In January 1935, when the Red Army crossed the Chishui River for the fourth time, the Second Division of the First Red Army Corps and the division headquarters camped in Bing'an and achieved a strategic victory in crossing the Chishui River for the first time. At that time, the Red Army's headquarters was located in a salt merchant's house in the ancient town. In 2008, the "First Red Army Corps Exhibition Hall" was built on its original site.

It is not outstanding among the many ancient towns in the country, but its distinctive feature lies in the bridge connecting the ancient towns.

There is a ticket to enter the ancient town from the iron chain bridge, but there is no ticket to enter the ancient town from Shuanglong Bridge, which is the section where locals go in and out. If you don't know, you can ask the shops or locals on the street, they are very enthusiastic to show you the way. It is best to enter the ancient town from Shuanglong Bridge and walk around, and then exit from the iron chain bridge. You can experience both~

This is a very small ancient town, very boring, with only a short street of 100 meters. The key is that such an ancient town actually charges admission? There are a lot of ancient towns in Kawauchi that are bigger than this one, and I didn't see anyone asking for admission. It's really not worth it. It's better to save time for the waterfall and other scenic spots.

There are buses from Chishui to Bing'an, which takes 40 minutes to get to the city, and the last bus leaves at 18:00. Bing'an Ancient Town looks good from the other side of the river, but there is really nothing inside, so there is no need to come in.

It was probably the town where the Red Army rested during the fourth crossing of Chishui River. I don't know much about the history. I chose to stay here mainly because it is a must-go place for the [Foguangyan] we are going to visit tomorrow, so I came to take a look. [Bing'an Ancient Town] is still very beautiful from a distance. I walked in at night and just looked at it from a distance. You need a ticket to enter, and it feels like there is nothing to see. It is just a super small town with a museum. It should be about crossing the Chishui River. By the way, the Chishui River is really red, and it feels like muddy water. Then there is a bridge across the Chishui River to Bing'an Ancient Town.

The inconvenient transportation here has kept the unique charm of the thousand-year-old town of Bing'an. In addition to the newly built suspension bridge, there is only one waterway to the foot of the castle. Looking across the river, the entire ancient town has basically maintained the original appearance of the ancient castle in the Chishui River Valley since the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Vehicles cannot enter the ancient town, and things to be transported outside can only be carried across the bridge on people's backs. Locals are still accustomed to walking on the suspension bridge and the street market with bamboo baskets on their backs.

Bing'an Ancient Town is a small town with a light commercial atmosphere. It is very small. It is full of villagers from the mountains who open shops and do business. There are also many children squatting on the roadside selling some mountain products. They say that they are on holiday to supplement their family income. They look very sensible. After breakfast in the morning, the elderly here sit together in the teahouse in the ancient town to drink tea in a covered bowl. They drink tea and talk about the mountains. They talk for a whole morning. It's so pleasant. We found an old shop in the ancient town for breakfast. We ate rice noodles, fried dough sticks, rice cakes, bamboo shoots stewed with meat, and tofu pudding. It was quite rich and tasted good. Forgive me for just eating. I also met several people in the ancient town who carried their children in bamboo baskets. It should be a feature here. It looks very interesting.

We entered the ancient town through the Shuanglong Bridge. The thick city walls and uneven steps in front of us had an ancient atmosphere that was soaked in time. We stepped on the stone steps, which were about ten meters high, and officially entered the ancient town.

When you enter the ancient town, the first thing that catches your eye is the narrow streetscape. It seems that there is no road at all, but after turning a corner, a wide stone street appears before your eyes.

There are no inns or bars, only a few undecorated small restaurants, no market promotion, original mountain products, authentic homemade farm products, ha. This old and vicissitudes town is like a plain-faced woman who has seen the prosperity of the world, with ancient charm, quiet beauty and silence. Those people and things have a sense of ancient elegance and comfort, and are independent from the world. I will never forget Bing'an!

A very original ancient town, not a newly built one. Worth a visit

It has maintained its original style, convenient transportation, unique features, and is worth a visit. It is best not to stay in the ancient town, which is expensive and small.

I passed by but didn't go in because I saw many travellers saying there was nothing inside and that there was a fee, etc. So I just took a few photos as I passed by. It looks okay from a distance, but I can't say anything more specific.

You can relax, walk around, stop and see the mountains and rivers. The ticket is 20, and it happened to be a 50% discount event. The price-performance ratio is ok, but the food in the scenic area is expensive.

Bing'an, one of the four ancient towns in Guizhou, is located on the Chishui River in Zunyi City. The recommended playing time is 1 hour. Transportation: You can take a bus to Chishui Bus Station first, and then transfer to Chishui to Bing'an next to the station. The price is 6 yuan and it takes 40 minutes. The entrance is at the end.

This is an important stop of the Red Army's Long March. There is a famous iron chain bridge. The town is not big, but the children have a lot of fun! It was expected to take half an hour, but it took more than two hours. Climbing up with the iron chain, the town is on a high hill. The town is built on the mountain and basically maintains its original appearance. The quaint wooden houses can vaguely find the shadow of the Red Army's Long March. Although some shops are rented, perhaps the weather is hot and there are fewer tourists, so it is in a semi-resting state. There is a special Red Army Long March Memorial Hall. The two-story building displays various supplies and guns used during the Long March, with text introductions. There are also Geng Biao's combat experience here, his inscriptions, and bronze statues. Because of the itinerary arrangement, I can't go to Zunyi. Visiting Bing'an Ancient Town can be regarded as a little recollection and understanding of the history of the Red Army's Long March! The iron chain bridge on the Chishui River, although it is impossible to imagine the hardships of crossing the Chishui River four times, but walking up to recall the past, there will be a little sense of vicissitudes. On the other side of the river is a newly built village, facing the old town. You can also sit on a bamboo chair and feel the locals resting and chatting. The Chishui River looks particularly vigorous under the scorching sun! I don't know why I always feel that in a place like Bing'an, you either experience heavy rain or sunny and clear sky. It seems that only these two kinds of weather can best represent the power that once existed here. And we happened to experience sunny and clear sky. Bing'an is still an ancient towpath, and the stone piles for tying boats and the stone noses bear witness to the past history.

It is just a completely commercial town without the atmosphere of local life; every shop in it reveals a strong commercial atmosphere!

Not recommended!

It was the Red Army ferry back then. The town is very small. Although it is full of shops, the people here are still very simple and kind, and the commercial atmosphere is not very strong. On the way to the ancient town, it suddenly rained heavily. After more than ten minutes of rain, the sky cleared up. When we arrived at the ancient town, it was just 6:30 and the ticket was free to visit. Haha, it was so cool

You can decide your schedule in the ancient town based on your own time. If you have time, it is recommended to spend two hours to appreciate the unique charm of the ancient town.

Bing'an Ancient Town is also the place where the Red Army crossed the Chishui River four times. Walking on the stone roads in the drizzle is a special experience.

Very rubbish ancient town. I have been to many ancient towns, but I don't want to give this one a single star! I strongly don't recommend going there

As time goes by, the Chishui River has washed away the former glitz of Bing'an Ancient Town, and the past prosperity has gradually become dull and quiet. There are no young people left, and the elderly are still guarding the historical huts. Those who stayed behind continue to run businesses in the ancient town, specializing in selling various specialties, mainly bamboo products, various dried bamboo shoots, vinegar, chili powder, bacon (similar to Hunan smoked meat), dendrobium, sweet potato candy, delicious small potatoes, etc. There are also restaurants and teahouses. There is no noise of cars and horses here, and no market sales to disturb the ears. The commercial atmosphere and ancient charm remain. The young man standing at the door of the old house can no longer tell the age of the old town. He only knows that the house was left by his grandfather's father, and the shop existed as early as when his grandmother was not married. Only the surprised eyes of tourists remind the people in the town that this place is really too old. This is Bing'an, a simple ancient town that has experienced prosperity and legends and gradually become peaceful and quiet in the passing of time.

It is very popular, so of course it has a strong commercial atmosphere.

To enter the ancient town, you have to go to the opposite side of the Chishui River, cross a narrow path, walk across a stone bridge, climb a steep stone staircase, and pass through the Donghua Gate. The ticket to Bing'an Ancient Town is 20.

Bing'an Ancient Town is not big. It is built on the mountain and looks like a small mountain town.

There are inns, restaurants and teahouses everywhere in the town, making it a bustling town.

If you want to eat, it is a good choice to eat directly in the ancient town, especially the cooked food, which is delicious and inexpensive.

Next is the stilt house built on one side of the water and a long corridor leading directly to the ferry suspension bridge.

After the suspension bridge, there is a sign for the Red Army Ferry in Bing'an Town.

The inscriptions on the monuments along the river are about the Red Army's four crossings of the Chishui River and detailed maps of the routes.

It costs 10 yuan to cross the bridge. Across the bridge is the ancient town, where you can visit and have fun. There are memorials related to the Red Army.

Bing'an Ancient Town is not big, but the ancient buildings are well preserved, and it is the most authentic among the ancient towns I have visited. There were not many tourists at this time, most of them were local residents. The sunset cooled down a bit, and the heat of the town was gradually dissipating.

Walking in the ancient town, you can carefully appreciate this natural and simple, pure and unadorned, sparse smoke from cooking fires, deep and peaceful small town in northern Guizhou. Hundreds of years of historical and cultural vicissitudes seem to be the agarwood folded on the scroll of time, filled with the smell of wind and rain and the world of mortals. On the plain paper of time, there are old walls covered with the memories of a place. Those unforgettable and alienated pasts are now at the corners of the tortuous alleys of time, and the sunlight shining through them has become a graceful landscape, bright and peaceful.

The town has unique architecture and is in good condition. It is surrounded by water and has a dangerous terrain. The First Red Army fought against the Sichuan Army here, and there are countless battle relics... It is recommended to go!

If I wasn't in a hurry, I would really like to stay in Bing'an Ancient Town and take in the scenery! When spring comes, I will visit the place again.

There are not many tourists in Bing'an Ancient Town, and even fewer tourists from other places. I only saw two local tour groups.

It's not worth going. The old shabby house in the past actually charges 20 yuan for admission. They are really crazy about money. There are so many beautiful ancient towns everywhere that are more worth appreciating than this one, but they don't charge admission. It has been an important place for commodity trading in several surrounding villages since ancient times. The ancient town is more than 10 meters above the river beach, and two stone gates guard the east and west entrances. There is a vigorous and simple large yellow locust tree next to each gate. A groove is dug out along the cliff wall, and many stilt houses are built in a staggered manner. These old buildings are mostly hidden in green trees and banana forests, and the stone steps built along the cliff extend to the river beach.

Bing'an Town is on the other side of the Chishui River. It is connected to the new town by an antique suspension bridge. It still has the old layout of relying on mountains and rivers, and it is ancient and still retains some of the atmosphere of an ancient town.

Perhaps because the Red Army crossed the Chishui River four times and because it is located on the banks of the Chishui River, the ancient town of Bing'an is full of meaning.

Green bamboos, suspension bridges, streams and rain-soaked stone slabs all make Bing'an, located by the Chishui River and leaning against the green mountains, quiet and poetic, like an ink painting...

The main street of the ancient town is bustling with people. The owner of a restaurant stands at the door covered with cold dishes, calling out to the guests. Some people say that the reason why Bing'an's ancient town is so well preserved and prices are so low is because it is poor. However, wherever I go, I find that the ancient town presents a scene of people living and working in peace and contentment. Perhaps none of us can objectively evaluate the present life of an ancient town, but there are always some bright colors that vividly embellish this town.

The business operation here is very mature. There is a long row of shops with parking, dining and accommodation on the other side of the river in the ancient town, and there is a large parking lot. Therefore, the parking and accommodation conditions fully meet the needs of tourists.

There is a direct bus to Chishui, which is very convenient. (Bing'an-Foguangyan is on the same road, so you can arrange sightseeing on the same day)

Bing'an is nice, with the Shuanglong Bridge and Donghua Gate left over from the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and more relics of the Four Crossings of the Chishui River. It feels much more original than many lively ancient towns.

Zhezi was stopped as soon as he walked towards the bridge, and then he bought the ticket obediently. So this time I was scared and ran over to ask how much the ticket was. It was 20 yuan for adults and 10 yuan for students. Then our great struggle brother came to buy the ticket. At this time, two groups of people walked over as if nothing had happened. Go, go... Okay, then Zhezi was criticized. The ancient town is very small and quiet. Most of the people in the ancient town are old. Sitting on their own doorsteps, they are really like the pictures on the Internet, with dark faces and wrinkles all over their faces. They are different from the ancient towns I have visited before. There is no sense of commercialism, only simplicity, tranquility and serenity.

This ancient town is really unique. The folk customs are simple, the terrain is uneven, and there is a chain bridge to walk on (but I'm afraid of it).

The highlight of the ancient town is the First Red Army Memorial Hall. I would like to give special praise to Chishui's attractions: students under 14 years old are free of charge, and this applies to all attractions! It's so heartwarming to take children to visit red attractions like this! Adult tickets are 20 yuan, and a 3-hour tour is completely enough.
