July 2, 2019 was sunny. It was the second day of my arrival in Gubeikou. Today’s plan was to visit Gubei Water Town. However, in order to avoid the sun during the day and because Gubei Water Town is known as a “night tour”, we arranged to enter the town in the afternoon. The owner of the B&B recommended a good place to enjoy the coolness, Jinshanling Forest Park or Simatai New Village Forest Park in Gubeikou Town. The park is built at the border of the Jinshanling Great Wall in Luanping County, Chengde City, Hebei Province. In a conversation with the only manager in the park, I learned that the park was originally connected to the Jinshanling Great Wall Scenic Area. Later, due to conflicts of interest, the Jinshanling Great Wall blocked the way. The top of the mountain under the blue sky and white clouds in the picture below is the Jinshanling Great Wall.

If you usually climb mountains or exercise, you won't feel particularly strenuous.

A highly recommended scenic spot. First, it is not far from Beijing, so you can visit it on weekends. The ticket is sold at the entrance for 65 yuan, and 60 yuan on Qunar.com. The scenic area is divided into the East Gate, the Main Gate, and the West Gate. Those with good physical strength can go up the West Gate, climb all the way to the east, then go down the mountain, and then share a car to pick up the car at the West Gate. It is estimated that the whole journey will take about 6 to 7 hours. I arrived at the main gate at 7 o'clock in the morning, took the cable car at 8 o'clock, went up and climbed west, returned to the Dianjiangtai at 10 o'clock, and returned to the main gate a little more than 11 o'clock. Second, the scenery is good, magnificent and magnificent, and there are not many tourists. You can climb slowly and enjoy it quietly. There was no wind and cloudless on the day I climbed. Climbing west in the morning was relatively sunny, but you still need to bring a sun hat and sunglasses. The temperature is similar to that in Beijing. It is cold in the morning and evening during the National Day holiday. It is recommended to wear a long-sleeved T-shirt and a jacket. At this time, the leaves on the mountain are not red, and there are few yellow ones. The really beautiful ones are in late October. Third, the scenic area is well developed. There are cable cars going up and down the mountain at the main gate, but they only run at 8 am. The one-way fare is 40 yuan and the round trip fare is 60 yuan. I took the cable car up and down by myself, which really saved a lot of physical strength. There are kiosks and toilets every few guardhouses in the Great Wall, so you dare to drink water without worrying about finding a toilet. Mineral water is 8 yuan on the mountain and 4 yuan at the entrance of the scenic area. Fourth, the overall restoration is okay. The road is wide and flat, and the steps are gentle and steep. Children are no problem, but the elderly over 65 years old are estimated to be very strenuous and have to do what they can. There are also trekking poles that do not play a big role in the steps. Fifth, the surrounding facilities are complete, there are many farmhouses, and eating and accommodation should not be a problem. We stayed in the Banyan Tree next to the main gate. The environment is okay, the room is average, 1199 a night including breakfast, not recommended, but if it is expensive to eat in the farmhouse, you can also go to the Banyan Tree. Two meat dishes and two bowls of rice can be taken for more than 100 yuan. Sixth, parking. Most people come here by car. I don't know about other gates. The main gate parking lot is 1550 meters away from the entrance of the scenic area. The shuttle bus to the entrance is charged separately. The advantage of staying at Banyan Tree is that you can drive to the hotel parking lot, and then take the hotel shuttle bus to the hotel lobby entrance. The hotel is within 100 meters walk from the entrance of the scenic area.

When we arrived at Jinshanling at 9 o'clock, there were very few tourists and the parking lot was empty. In fact, when we came out at 1 o'clock in the afternoon, there were not many people either. It can be said that there were very few people. After buying tickets from the parking lot, take the battery car to the ticket gate. After entering the ticket gate, walk 20 minutes to the foot of the Great Wall. It is recommended to go left from Zhuanduokou to the Great Wall, that is, to the east. Those with good physical strength can go to Houchuankou to go down the Great Wall. Those with average physical strength can go to Xiaojinshanlou to take the cable car to go down the Great Wall. Those with great physical strength can go east all the way to Wangjing Tower. After Wangjing Tower is Simatai Great Wall, of course, there will be an additional charge.

The Jinshanling Great Wall is really worth recommending. The most important thing is that the scenery is nice and there are few people. It seems that many foreign friends come to the Jinshanling Great Wall, and there are also many self-driving tourists from Beijing and Hebei. There are really many people who come from Beijing by car. In particular, it rained on the first day, and many photographers in Beijing got up early in the morning on the second day and drove to the Jinshanling Great Wall to take pictures of the fog!

Jinshanling Great Wall is located near the Beijing-Chengde Expressway. You can't miss it if you pass by. It is said that the image of the Great Wall when CCTV played the national anthem in the early morning was taken here. This section of the Great Wall has some repaired and some unrepaired parts, with a sense of historical vicissitudes. The road on the Great Wall is also quite thrilling. Many stairs are steep and deep, and you need help to walk down. It took us a total of 2 and a half hours to walk this section of the Great Wall. Although it was tiring, it was very enjoyable because there were few people and the scenery was beautiful.

This is a scenic spot that exceeded my expectations. Before entering, I had no idea it was so beautiful.

The Jinshanling Great Wall is a scenic spot that was restored and rebuilt on the basis of the Ming Great Wall. A small section of the Ming Great Wall ruins has been preserved in the scenic area, and the rest has been rebuilt.

The biggest surprise of visiting Jinshanling is that there are few people and the scenery is beautiful. We have plenty of time to take pictures. In addition, I saw many photography enthusiasts carrying long guns and short guns in the scenic area. They brought their own dry food and stayed for a whole day just to take pictures of the Great Wall at different times. It is almost impossible to take pictures of the Great Wall at Badaling all day long.

A little tip is that if you are not a hiking enthusiast, don't climb up by yourself. It takes more than 40 minutes to climb from the gate of the scenic area to the top of the Great Wall. It is better to take the cable car up and down.

Next, let’s talk about the shortcomings:

1. The supporting hotel for the scenic area has not been completed yet. Currently, you can only stay in the surrounding farmhouses.

2. Currently, the only way to reach the scenic area is by car. There is basically no public transportation. Travel agencies rarely include Jinshanling in one-day tours, which is why there are so few people.

3. The parking lot in the scenic area is a bit of a rip-off. There are obviously spaces near the gate of the scenic area, but the parking lot is located far away. If you don't take an electric car, you have to walk two kilometers to get to the gate of the scenic area, and the electric car costs money.



In short, the flaws are not enough to outweigh the merits. I tolerated the scheming of the scenic area managers for the sake of the beauty of the Great Wall. What's more, they gave half-price cable car rides to the elderly and children.

There is no parking fee. I don’t know if it is because of the festival. There are many farmhouses around the scenic area. There are not many people in winter, but it is the peak season in summer.

There are few people, the scenery is beautiful, and it retains its ancient and original flavor. It is better to stay for one night and have a leisurely time.

1. Ticket price: RMB 65 in peak season (March 16-November 15), RMB 55 in off-season (November 16-March 15 of the following year).

Suitable places to visit. This is my third time here. I am a little tired of driving by myself. The bus is a little annoying. Taking the bus is too much trouble. Is there a cheaper carpooling tour?

There are fewer people, which is the best. Some parts of the Great Wall have not been restored, which looks very interesting. However, it may be difficult to get there if you are not driving yourself.

Today I drove to Jinshanling Great Wall Chengde and saw a sign in front of the scenic spot, saying that it would be temporarily closed from June 1, 2017 to December 31, 2018. I saw the Great Wall beacon tower at the foot of the mountain, which was still very steep. It would be great if I could go up!

This is the most beautiful Great Wall I have ever seen. In order to upgrade to a 5A scenic spot, it has stopped receiving visitors since June 1, 2017, and the resumption date is to be determined. Tickets purchased on site can be entered twice, but tickets purchased online can only be entered once.

We stayed in the Navy Farmhouse, which is very convenient to the entrance of the scenic area in two minutes. It is best to start climbing the Great Wall after two or three in the afternoon and before five the next day. You can watch the sunset and sunrise at these two times, and there are fewer people. Few tourists broke into the camera when taking pictures.

In both 2013 and 2014, Jinshanling was captured in mid-May.

The first time was a group activity organized by the unit. We climbed the Great Wall in the hot sun at noon. Although it was only a short section, I felt very uncomfortable under the scorching sun.

The second time I went with a friend. We arranged for food and lodging at the farmhouse on Saturday afternoon, and then went hiking to take pictures. We got up late on Sunday, so we didn't see the sunrise, but took a few pictures.

Jinshanling is indeed majestic, powerful and relatively complete. If the weather is good, you can really take some photos of it.

Transportation: Take the Jinshanling Tourist Line at Wangjing West Station, and cross the road from Exit C (Line 15) to the station. However, there is only one tourist bus per day, which departs at 8:00 a.m. and returns at 15:00 p.m. Friends who are going to play for a day can take this bus, but the time is tight. Don't worry if you miss the special line, there is also a shuttle bus to Luanping at the station, and you can get off at the Jinshanling Service Area halfway, just like the special line. The shuttle bus runs about half an hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon. There is a free shuttle bus to the west gate of the scenic area at the drop-off point. The number of shuttle buses is limited. Please see the pictures below for the specific time. It should be noted that on the return trip, you must call to reserve a shuttle bus seat at the Jinshanling Service Area, otherwise you can't get on the bus. I didn't know at the time, and I waited for nearly two hours~ It is said that tickets can also be bought at the canteen there, but I don't know what happened, so I didn't dare to buy it. The ticket price is the same, 32 yuan, but the shuttle bus can be swiped, and there is a discount in the Beijing area.

Accommodation: There is a farmhouse at the west gate of the scenic area, which is only a few minutes' walk away. The price ranges from 120 to 150. It is more expensive on weekends than on weekdays. It is said that it can rise to 300 during holidays. You can order meals at the store, and breakfast is 10 yuan per person. There is also a Jinshan Hotel at the west gate, which is also very close, and the price is not clear. There are also several farmhouses near the east gate of the scenic area, but they are a little farther away from the east gate, and it takes more than ten minutes to walk. The prices on both sides are similar. The advantage of living near the east gate is that there are fewer people and it is quieter. However, the boss of the hotel where I stayed at that time promised to pick us up to the scenic area and the service area, but he did not send us to the service area because there were many guests eating lunch, so we walked for more than ten minutes under the hot sun. At present, the direct bus from Beijing to Jinshanling has been changed to depart from Wangjing West. I suggest you don't take the wrong bus. I just went there yesterday. The earliest bus departs at 8:00. Jinshanling is more beautiful than other Great Walls, and there are fewer people.

It takes half an hour to walk from the gate to the Great Wall. You can take a cable car, but the cable car is not open in winter. We took a van up, which took less than 5 minutes and cost 20 yuan per person for a round trip. I prefer the Great Wall in winter to summer, because it is more vast and majestic. It takes three hours to visit the Great Wall along the entire line. In addition, the sunset in Jinshanling is very beautiful, and it is more than five o'clock in winter. It is recommended to see it.

Compared with the crowds of people at Badaling in Beijing, Jinshanling Scenic Area is obviously much less crowded. Even on a weekend with very good weather, we didn't see crowds. The eastern section of the scenic area is longer, and the city is well-preserved and suitable for sightseeing. The western section of the city is seriously damaged, revealing the vicissitudes of history, and is more suitable for photography. Jinshanling Great Wall is a good place for photography around Beijing all year round. You can stay in a nearby farmhouse for photography. One ticket to the scenic area can enter the park twice. Adult tickets are 65 yuan, student tickets are 32, and group tickets are 45. It is said that those who live in nearby farmhouses can enjoy group tickets. Transportation: Drive along the Beijing-Chengde Expressway to the Jinshanling parking area and take the county road. The place to get off is not very clear, so it is easier to drive past. There is a commuter bus to the scenic area every morning at Wangjing Station on Metro Line 15.

The east gate of Jinshanling is closed in winter, and you can only climb up through the main gate. There are east and west sections on both sides of the main gate. I chose to climb the west section first, return and then climb the east section, which proves that this may be correct. The west section of Jinshanling is very short, and you need to return to the main gate by the original route to exit the scenic area or continue to climb the east section. Fortunately, it is short, so it basically takes one and a half to two hours to go back and forth. Starting from the main gate to the east, you can directly reach the east gate. The east gate is closed in winter, and it is still very far away. It starts from more than twelve o'clock and it takes more than two forty to climb from the main gate to Houchuankou. The instructions in the scenic area need to be strengthened to facilitate tourists to choose routes. PS: It seems that the cableway is not open in the off-season in winter. Starting from the Five Eyes Tower to the west, the repair of the Great Wall is not so good. Basically, a lot of the original appearance of the Great Wall is preserved, especially the last section. The Great Wall has collapsed to only half its width and is covered with weeds.

The western section is more authentic, you can walk there if you like.

The eastern section, starting from the main entrance, is the former part of Xiaojinshan Building, which has been well-repaired and has 4A quality.

The section from Dajinshan Tower to Houchuankou is not well maintained. It looks like it was repaired a long time ago but was later damaged by rain and other reasons. The section from Houchuankou to Gaojianlou is different from other places. The Great Wall does not have arrow walls or walls on both sides. The slope is not small, and it is a bit tiring to walk.

The high-rise building is above the Hualou building, and the steps are particularly difficult to climb.

It took about 30 minutes to go down the mountain from Houchuankou, at a moderate pace. The distance to Houchuankou was about 3 kilometers. Go down the mountain and go directly to the ticket gate (the upper entrance of the cableway). Jinshanling Great Wall Route: Self-driving, starting from the Fifth Ring Beijing-Chengde Expressway, after paying the toll at the toll gate at the junction of Beijing and Hebei, continue to the Jinshanling Service Area, enter the service area (do not drive through, there is a sign to the Jinshanling Great Wall), turn right immediately after entering (about a 300-degree U-turn), go forward, you will see signs for two roads (Beijing and Jinshanling Great Wall), go out of the highway in the direction of Jinshanling Great Wall, you do not need to pay the highway toll here, go straight along the road, after about 7 or 8 kilometers you will see signs (towards Jinshanling Great Wall and Mi San Road), turn left to enter the Jinshanling Great Wall Scenic Area.

The restaurants in the scenic area are closed in winter. There are some farmhouses and small shops outside the scenic area, which are all run by the villagers themselves, where you can eat and get supplies.

I didn't see any tourist buses, and there weren't many black taxis. I suggest you contact a taxi or tourist bus in advance, or drive. It's a good experience, and you don't need a very high physical condition. People with average physical fitness can go climbing and treat it as exercise.

The Great Wall climbing route: Zhuanduokou (the first stop of the Great Wall) - West Five Eyes Tower - Zhuanduokou - General Tower - Shalingkou - Xiaojinshan - Dajinshan - Houchuankou - Zhuanjiaolou - East Five Eyes Tower - Zhuanjiaolou - Houchuankou (the first stop of the Great Wall)

The total climbing time on the Great Wall was about 6.5 hours, including a 20-minute lunch stop. The time spent stopping to take pictures and view the scenery was longer than the walking time. Therefore, it took more time to go forward, and it was much faster to return. It took 2 hours to go from Houchuankou to Dongwuyanlou, and only half an hour to return.

I personally think that the section from Jiangjun Tower to Houchuankou is the most beautiful section of the Jinshanling Great Wall, and the section from Houchuankou to East Five Eyes Tower is a relatively difficult section to climb. Not many people go west from West Five Eyes Tower, as you can see from the photos below, there is grass growing on it. East Five Eyes Tower is the end point, and you are not allowed to climb forward. There are several scenic area staff watching. Looking east from East Five Eyes Tower, you can vaguely see Wangjing Tower on a dangerous peak in the distance. The staff said that on April 18, a female hiker unfortunately fell from Wangjing Tower and died.

During the climb, I saw many people coming up from Zhuanduokou and going down to Shalingkou. It was a pity. It would only take an hour and a half to walk slowly along this road. Why not walk to Houchuankou and then go down? It only takes half an hour to walk back from Houchuankou to the ticket gate. The road is paved with stones and is very easy to walk. The road from the ticket gate to Zhuanduokou is also very good and takes only more than ten minutes. Therefore, it is not recommended to take the cable car to go up and down, which will not save much time.

The ticket gate is about six or seven minutes’ walk from the parking lot. The ticket price is 65 yuan and parking is free.
