Putuo Zongcheng Temple is the largest of the Eight Outer Temples in Chengde. It was built in the 36th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1771). It was built by Emperor Qianlong to celebrate his 60th birthday and his mother's 80th birthday, imitating the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet. "Putuo Zongcheng" is the Chinese translation of the Tibetan word "Potala". The entire temple was built on the basis of traditional Han architecture and combined with Tibetan architectural features. It is a model of the fusion of Han and Tibetan architectural art, commonly known as the "Little Potala Palace". Qianlong spared no expense to build the extremely luxurious Putuo Zongcheng Temple to show that "Putuo in the mountain resort is the same as Putuo in Tibet", making the Mountain Resort a Buddhist center and allowing the leaders of the Manchu, Mongolian and Tibetan ethnic groups to see the holy place in their hearts in Chengde. (There is a viewing platform on the opposite mountain, where you can take a panoramic view)

The temple is built on the mountainside with a natural layout, and is basically in the architectural style of Tibetan Buddhism.

The main building is the majestic and tall Dahongtai. Below the Dahongtai is the 18-meter-high Dabaitai, and above it stands the 25-meter-high Dahongtai.

Putuo Zongcheng Temple and Xumi Fushou Temple, combined ticket 80 yuan, free shuttle bus

The tour time is 2-3 hours.

Putuo Zongcheng Temple, also known as the Little Potala Palace, is the most popular of the Eight Outer Temples. It is recommended to visit it either early or late to avoid tourist groups.

The best place to take panoramic photos of the Little Potala Palace is not inside the temple, but in the mountainous area of the Mountain Resort.

By Peter Pan |

From a purely photography perspective, I feel that the Eight Outer Temples are not inferior to the Mountain Resort, especially the Tibetan-style architecture of the Little Potala Palace. However, the best location to take good photos of the temples of the Little Potala Palace is on the mountain opposite the scenic area, so you can only take partial photos inside the scenic area. As for the partial photos, I think the best-looking one is undoubtedly the golden roof in the sun.

It is known as the Little Potala Palace and a panoramic view can be seen from the Ermadao Road in the Mountain Resort.

The Little Potala Palace generally refers to the Putuo Zongcheng Temple

The Putuo Zongcheng Temple is located in the north of the Mountain Resort in Chengde City, Hebei Province, and on the south side of the Lion Ditch. It covers an area of 220,000 square meters and is the largest of the Eight Outer Temples in Chengde. It was built in the 36th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1771). It was built by Emperor Qianlong to celebrate his 60th birthday and his mother, the Empress Dowager's 80th birthday, and was modeled after the Potala Palace in Tibet.

This is probably the most deceptive tourist attraction I have ever visited. After you buy the ticket and enter, there is a tour guide who takes you around, and then later on they try to trick you into lighting lamps for the Buddha. Each lamp is quite expensive, and many people lit them.

The Putuo Zongcheng Temple is also called the Little Potala Palace because it looks like the Potala Palace. The architecture inside is worth seeing. The best place to see the panoramic view is in the mountain area of the Summer Resort.

By Ramon |

I went to Chengde for a weekend in the winter of 2009. I visited two of the Eight Outer Temples and the Mountain Resort. There are fewer people in winter, but there are not many sights to see. The Little Potala Palace is in Tibetan style, and the decorations on the outside and inside are very detailed. I like it.

By Hu Chheiteng |

The entrance ticket and the palace are a combined ticket, 80 per person.

The entrance is obvious, but the route planning within the attraction is not obvious. The exit and entrance are not in the same location, but the signs are not obvious, so it is easy to go the wrong way.

Here comes the point. The green stink bugs (a kind of flying insect that emits a foul smell) are so numerous that they cover the sky and are impossible to guard against. No one knows what they are doing and the staff can do nothing about it.

Some parts may be under renovation and not open to the public. The tour fee is 100 yuan per time and electronic tour headsets are 20 yuan per person. The content of the tour is indeed different from the live tour, so you can decide for yourself based on your financial situation and interests.

By jixiamenke |

I went there in mid-autumn and the parking lot outside the door cost an extra 20.

So I parked the car outside, and when I came back, I looked at the toll sign, 10 yuan for less than six seats. How come it was 20 yuan? Damn!

I walked over and asked the dark-skinned toll collector, and he said, you are visiting two temples, so it’s 20. Then why is it not written 20 on your Mabi sign?

I called the Price Bureau on the spot, and they said, "Let the toll collector answer the phone." The toll collector nodded and bowed. After hanging up the phone, he immediately changed his attitude and said, "Drive over here and I'll charge you 10 yuan."

I parked it and I drove it back? You must be kidding.

I heard a car next to me and someone got off. I told him how much it would cost. 20! I called the Price Bureau and it was 10 yuan.

The black guy over there heard me and immediately yelled at me in a loud voice. A few women who were selling things came over. He yelled even louder when he saw there were so many people. He was being polite when yelling at people. Just kidding. There were three police officers standing in the police car next to him. I said he was charging too much and yelling at people. Do you care? He said, we don’t care. We are the police in the Little Potala Palace. The parking lot is not our responsibility. Why don’t you call 110! I said right away, you are just pretending!

The Price Bureau called again and said that he was on vacation and would call you back tomorrow to calm you down.

For outsiders, isn't Chengde just the mountain villa and the Eight Outer Temples? There is no connection with the rest. Let's not talk about whether the tickets are expensive or not. You are charging a lot, which is unreasonable. If you have the guts, why not write 20 yuan? You are just slapping yourself in the face by writing 10 yuan? You don't even care about your dignity. What else do you have? You can only sell your ancestors! What the hell!

Putuo Zongcheng Temple was built in imitation of the Potala Palace in Tibet. The Tibetan style can be seen everywhere in the interior architecture, occasionally mixed with the royal style of Beijing. Go up to the big red platform, you can see the prayer wheel. Continue to go up, you can reach the interior of the building. Under the brilliant golden roof is the Wanfa Guiyi Hall, which is the main hall of Zongcheng Temple. There are dozens of meters of thangkas hanging in the hall, and the roof of the hall is carved with a golden dragon playing with a pearl, which is very imposing.

By Xiaoqiang |

Visiting the Little Potala Palace in the rain, it is worthy of being a royal temple, very majestic. It was really hard to take pictures while protecting the camera from getting wet by the rain. But it was also a very happy thing to take beautiful pictures.

By High speed jeep |

The ticket is 40 yuan (peak season in 2018). There is a large parking lot at the entrance of the scenic spot on the north side of the Summer Resort, which is quite convenient. The whole tour takes about 3 hours. You can learn a lot of historical and cultural knowledge by walking and listening along the way. The building is in Tibetan Buddhist style. It is the largest of the Eight Outer Temples in Chengde. It was built in the 36th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1771). It was built by Emperor Qianlong to celebrate his 60th birthday and his mother, the Empress Dowager's 80th birthday, imitating the Potala Palace in Tibet. It can be said that you can feel the majestic momentum of Tibetan Buddhism and the "Potala Palace" without going to Tibet.

By Let go |

Chengde was actually a stronghold of the Manchu clan outside the Great Wall. As a result, it gradually became a gathering place for the leaders of the ethnic groups outside the Great Wall, a bit like the Shanghai Night Ballroom. How can the leaders of the ruling ethnic groups gather without luxurious mansions? This Putuo Zongcheng Temple was built for this purpose and has been continuously expanded. However, as time goes by, this place is no longer a religious place, because it has been abandoned by religious people, and only the prayer flags of moral kidnapping are left, which is disgusting. Fortunately, the magnificent building is still there, with red and white main colors and golden tops. Standing on the wall of the Summer Resort opposite, you can still feel its extraordinary heroic appearance.

Although Chengde is famous for the Summer Resort, I personally think the most interesting thing is the "surrounding temples", and the Little Potala Palace is the first place to go. The Little Potala Palace is one of the Eight Outer Temples. Tickets are a bit expensive. It is built on the mountain and it takes some strength to climb to the top. It is magnificent.

Emperor Qianlong built it according to the Potala Palace in Tibet, but reduced it to 1/3 of the Potala Palace. The scenic area has many tourists and is one of the popular attractions in Chengde, and one of the Eight Outer Temples of Chengde. The ticket price is 80 yuan, which is a bit expensive, but it is worth seeing. The scenic area takes about 1-2 hours to visit.

Putuo Zongcheng Temple was built in the 32nd year of Emperor Qianlong's reign and completed four years later. It was built by Emperor Qianlong to celebrate his 60th birthday and his mother, the Empress Dowager's 80th birthday. There are more than 60 buildings in Putuo Zongcheng Temple, which rise from the foot of the mountain to the top of the mountain. The core building, the Red Terrace, is 43 meters high and is the largest temple among the "Outer Eight Temples". "Putuo Zongcheng" is the Chinese translation of the Tibetan word "Potala", which means the dojo of Guanyin Bodhisattva. Because its architecture imitates the Potala Palace in Lhasa, this temple is also called the "Little Potala Palace". Take bus No. 118 directly to the temple.

The ticket is a joint ticket with the Xumi Fushou Temple, 80 yuan. Standing on the highest pavilion, looking at the surrounding mountains, you will feel relaxed and happy. A couple whispered around you, talking about love at the highest point of the Potala Palace. The background is quite good.

Standing on the palace wall of the Mountain Resort, you can see the Little Potala Palace, the first of the Eight Outer Temples. The Little Potala Palace was built in imitation of the Potala Palace in Tibet. Emperor Qianlong once received the Torghut tribe returning from thousands of miles east here. It is a large temple built by Emperor Qianlong with the intention of respecting national beliefs and uniting ethnic minorities.

Putuo Zongcheng Temple, built in the 36th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign, is known as the Little Potala Palace. It is the only Tibetan-style Tibetan Buddhist temple in the mainland. If you have not been to the Potala Palace in Tibet, you can get a small experience of it here. The decoration and furnishings inside the temple are very exquisite and exotic, but it's a pity that taking photos inside is not allowed.

Putuo Zongcheng Temple is the largest temple among the Eight Outer Temples of Chengde, and is known as the "Little Potala Palace". Its main building is located on the top of the mountain, with more than 60 flat-roofed Diaofang-style white platforms and Buddhist pagoda white platforms freely arranged in depth along the mountain, rising layer by layer according to the terrain, majestic and magnificent.

By Suiyuan Old Crow |

The tickets have started to say "Potala Palace Scenic Area". Although Putuo and Potala mean the same thing, I still feel that they are just trying to take advantage of the popularity. Putuo Zongcheng is powerful and does not need to take advantage of the popularity.

By Walking little black man |

The ticket price is relatively expensive. Inside is a Tibetan Buddhist temple, which looks particularly spectacular against the backdrop of blue sky and white clouds. Although it cannot be compared with the Potala Palace in Tibet, it is worthy of the title of the Little Potala Palace. If time permits, it is recommended to visit the Putuo Zongcheng Temple.

By The Fourth Lord |

Also known as: Little Potala Palace, as the name suggests, this is a smaller version of the Potala Palace. I like Tibetan Buddhist culture and the architecture here. A combined ticket with a nearby temple costs 80 yuan per person.

Putuo Zongcheng Temple is the first stop of our trip to the Eight Outer Temples. People like to call Putuo Zongcheng Temple the "Little Potala Palace". I only knew that there was a summer resort in Chengde before, but I learned through this trip that there is also a Little Potala Palace. Although it is a "copycat version", the momentum of looking down on the world is not inferior to the original one. When I arrived at the entrance of the scenic spot, I couldn't wait to get off the car and go in to see what it was. I can't go to the original Potala Palace for the time being, because I am afraid of altitude sickness. I am the most afraid of suffering and can't go to those difficult attractions. In addition, my delicate mother will never agree to go there. This copycat version is enough to amaze me.

"Putuo Zongcheng" is the Chinese translation of the Tibetan word "Potala". The Putuo Zongcheng Temple was built by Emperor Qianlong to celebrate his 60th birthday and the 80th birthday of the Empress Dowager. But in fact, the planning began in the 13th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign. At that time, he sent a painter and a surveyor to copy and survey the Potala Palace. In the 32nd year of Emperor Qianlong's reign, when he was 56 years old, the construction began. After the completion, it was used as a reception place for Tibetan or Mongolian princes and lamas. Although it was built for the birthdays of himself and his mother, it actually has a strong political meaning. The Qing court really made an effort to win over Tibet.

By H2*L |

Very shocking. I think it is the most beautiful scenic spot in Chengde.

By Raul |

Although I have never been to Lhasa, it does feel like a smaller version of the Potala Palace. You should definitely take your time to tour it and read and look at every place with written words. It is a place with a strong religious flavor, so feel it.

There are people raising prayer flags on the platform, 30 for one flag, 150 for five flags. In keeping with the style of Mount Wutai, they first stuff the flags into your hands and then give a bunch of excuses about personal career, family safety... If you care about these, it's okay. If not, just walk away. As long as your heart is sincere, it's good.

Putuo Zongcheng Temple, commonly known as the Little Potala Palace, is a temple building with special artistic value located to the north of the Mountain Resort and to the west of the "Sumeru Fushou Temple". In addition to the main red platform and white platform, the temple also has more than 40 monks' rooms, Buddhist halls, white platforms and tower platforms of various types. It is the largest of the Eight Outer Temples in Chengde, covering an area of 220,000 square meters. It is majestic and spectacular, and really looks like the Potala Palace in Tibet.

By Xiaoyue Qingjiang |

The Little Potala Palace is located at the southern foot of Lion Hill, just north of the Mountain Resort.

The scenic area consists of the Putuo Zongcheng Temple and the Xumi Fushou Temple in the royal temple complex. They are two Han-Tibetan temples. The two temples were built in 1767 (the 32nd year of Emperor Qianlong's reign) and 1780 (the 45th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign). They were built in imitation of the Potala Palace in Lhasa and the Tashilhunpo Monastery in Shigatse, and are commonly known as the Little Potala Palace and the Panchen Lama's Palace.

For those who have not been to Tibet, it is worth visiting.

By Mysterious Ark |

This place really looks like the Potala Palace in Tibet, although I have never seen the real Potala Palace, I have only seen it from photos and videos. The Tibetan "Potala" has the same meaning as the Chinese "Putuo", which refers to the place where Avalokitesvara lives.

By Flower's Daughter |

The only pure Tibetan Buddhist temple in the mainland, commonly known as the "Little Potala Palace", has red walls and white platforms. It is extremely magnificent when overlooked from the Erma Road of the Summer Resort. For me who does not have time to go to Tibet, I can also appreciate its grandeur. It is recommended that you must find a guide when visiting, otherwise you can only take a quick look without knowing the meaning.

By Han nini |

For those who want to go to Tibet but never make it, coming here is a little comfort. The scenery is nice. If the weather is good, the blue sky and white clouds complement each other. It is so beautiful. There is a self-guided tour at the entrance for 20 yuan per person. It is recommended to bring one, otherwise you will not be able to experience some things.

It is easy to "rush through" when visiting the Little Potala Palace. It is recommended that you rent a voice navigation system at major scenic spots in Chengde. It is worth mentioning that the facilities of the Little Potala Palace are very consistent with the characteristics of Tibetan Buddhism. Going up along the only road, there are a total of 104 steps on the white base. It is said that every step you climb can reduce a kind of suffering. There are 108 kinds of suffering in a person's life. Except for the four kinds of "birth, aging, illness, and death" that cannot be controlled, the remaining 104 kinds can be exempted by these 104 steps. Climbing up the stairs, "prayer wheels", "colorful prayer flags"... If you only look at everything in front of you, it seems as if you are really in the Tibetan area.

Putuo Zongcheng Temple is the largest temple among the "Outer Eight Temples". It is commonly known as the Little Potala Palace because it was built in imitation of the Potala Palace in Lhasa. "Putuo Zongcheng" is the Chinese translation of the Tibetan word "Potala". The temple is built on the mountain, facing south. Inside the mountain gate is the stele pavilion. To the north is the Five Pagoda Gate, which is more than ten meters high and has three arches. Five Lama pagodas in red, yellow, black, white and green are built on it. The temple is a typical Tibetan-Han style, with red walls, white walls, yellow bricks and golden roofs against the background of blue sky, white clouds, clear water, green trees and green grass. It is solemn, serene and mysterious...

By The tolerant little red |

You have to climb the Little Potala Palace yourself. It is really spectacular. There are pavilions and stele as usual. The golden roof is also very impressive.

If you don't have the opportunity to visit the Potala Palace on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, you might as well visit the Putuo Zongcheng Temple in Chengde. Known as the "Little Potala Palace", the Putuo Zongcheng Temple can also give you a great shock. Here, you can find the shadow of the Potala Palace in Tibet.

Chengde, a back garden opened up by the royal family, has many scenic spots, the most famous of which is the "Summer Resort" and then the "Putuo Zongcheng Temple".

Putuo Zongcheng Temple is located behind Chengde Mountain Resort. After visiting the entire Mountain Resort, exit from the East Gate [Wanshuyuan Gate], cross the road and take Chengde Bus Line 118 to [Putuo Zongcheng Temple].

Suggestions for sightseeing: If you are going on a one-day tour in Chengde, it is recommended to visit the Mountain Resort in the morning, and then leave the resort around 2 or 3 in the afternoon to visit the Putuo Zongcheng Temple. The entire Putuo Zongcheng Temple area is not very large, and it takes about two and a half hours to visit. The time spent on the temple and climbing the stairs is mainly spent on the temple. After the tour, it is just time for dinner.

The Putuo Zongcheng Temple was built by order of Emperor Qianlong to celebrate his 60th birthday and his mother, the Empress Dowager's 80th birthday, modeled after the Potala Palace in Tibet.

Ticket price: 80 yuan in peak season, 60 yuan in off-season. Half price for students.

About opening hours: Peak season (April 1st - October 31st) 8:00-17:00; off-season (November 1st - March 31st) 8:30-17:00.

Reference time: 2 hours.

About the tour route: The Putuo Zongcheng Temple Scenic Area is long and narrow from north to south, and the road basically extends from north to south, so after entering from the main gate, you don’t have to turn east or west, just go straight forward.

Sightseeing spots: From south to north, they are Mountain Gate, Stele Pavilion, Five Pagoda Gate, Glazed Archway, Gang Hall, Five Pagoda White Terrace, Dahong Terrace, Wanfa Guiyi Hall. The highlights of the tour are mainly concentrated on Dahong Terrace and Wanfa Guiyi Hall.

Tips: The mountain road is steep and goes all the way north. It is especially challenging. It is recommended to bring enough dry food and mineral water for timely replenishment. There are very few sales points on Dahongtai and Wanfa Guiyi Temple, and the prices are not cheap. So it is better to bring your own.

The locals call it the "Little Potala Palace". As the only temple of Tibetan Buddhism in the Central Plains, it has certain characteristics. When I went there, the interior was partially renovated. It is still a relatively suitable attraction for viewing from a distance. I give it a five out of ten rating.

The red city walls and mottled glazed tiles tell of the peace and prosperity of the past.

The Little Potala Palace in the North, everything was built according to the standards of the Potala Palace. It was built by Emperor Qianlong to celebrate his mother's birthday. It is magnificent, solemn and majestic.

The Potala Palace Scenic Area is located at the southern foot of Lion Ridge, just north of the Mountain Resort. It consists of the Putuo Zongcheng Temple and the Xumi Fushou Temple, which were built during the Qianlong period. The Putuo Zongcheng Temple was built in imitation of the Potala Palace in Lhasa and is commonly known as the Little Potala Palace.

I stayed in the temple for more than an hour. According to Chengde City's parking fee regulations, the fee is 5 yuan per hour, and the maximum fee is 10 yuan. The toll collector insisted on charging per time, 20 yuan per time. The parking toll collector at Puning Temple also did the same thing at the beginning. It was very annoying!

I don't understand why some facilities choose to be modified during the peak travel season, resulting in some being unable to be visited. I still recommend that they be repaired during the off-season so that it will be convenient for everyone to travel during the peak season.

The general name for the eight Tibetan Buddhist temples in the northeast of the Mountain Resort. The Outer Eight Temples were built successively between the 52nd year of Emperor Kangxi's reign (1713) and the 45th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign (1780). They include the Pu Ren Temple, the Pushan Temple (now no longer in existence), the Puning Temple, the Anyuan Temple, the Putuo Zongcheng Temple, the Shuxiang Temple, the Xumi Fushou Temple, and the Guangyuan Temple. Of the many Outer Eight Temples, we only went to the Putuo Zongcheng Temple, where there were free guides to take tourists around, which was quite good.

It looks very much like the Zongjing Jokhang Temple in Xiangshan. It is also the largest of the Eight Outer Temples. It is said that it was built by Emperor Qianlong to celebrate his 60th birthday and the 80th birthday of the Empress Dowager. It is modeled after the Potala Palace in Tibet. It really has Tibetan architectural style.

I came to Chengde in July. The Putuo Zongcheng Temple, whose main building was built in imitation of the Potala Palace, is also known as the Little Potala Palace. The scenic area is not large. It is built on the mountain and rises layer by layer. It is magnificent and magnificent. It has its own unique architectural style and profound cultural heritage. It is the largest temple among the Eight Outer Temples. Standing in the main building of the Putuo Zongcheng Temple and looking at the big red wall, you can purify your soul and broaden your mind. The Little Potala Palace, located to the north of the Mountain Resort, is one of the must-see attractions in Chengde.

As a royal place of worship, this place is actually of higher level than the Potala Palace. It feels like an ancient temple hidden in the mountains. I like Chengde and I like this place very much.
