Jingzhou City, also known as Jiangling City, was one of the first 24 historical and cultural cities in China announced by the State Council in 1982. In 1996, the ancient city wall of Jingzhou was announced by the State Council as a national key cultural relic protection unit. Jingzhou is located in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River and the heart of the Jianghan Plain. It is the birthplace of Chu culture, which is as brilliant as the Central Plains culture in the Yellow River Basin and comparable to the ancient Greek and Roman cultures.
During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, the Chu State built its capital in Ji'nan City, five kilometers north of the city, for 411 years, leaving behind rich historical and cultural relics. Jingzhou is also a historical place where the Three Kingdoms culture was born and flourished. During the Wei, Shu and Wu Kingdoms, this place was a strategic location that military strategists had to fight for. Of the 120 chapters of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, 72 involve Jingzhou. Popular stories such as "Liu Bei borrows Jingzhou" and "Guan Yu loses Jingzhou due to carelessness" took place on this ancient land. The ancient heritage of Jingzhou can be traced back to the long prehistoric period. The Paleolithic site of Jigong Mountain, which dates back 50,000 to 60,000 years, is about 4 kilometers northeast of the ancient city; more than 20 Neolithic sites have been discovered near the ancient city. The undoubted historical sites clearly tell people that Jingzhou, this ancient land, has a long and splendid history and culture.
·The ancient city of Jingzhou has been an important town for successive dynasties to establish kings and set up their capitals since the Qin and Han Dynasties. In the Qin Dynasty, Nanjun and Jiangling County were set up here. In the Han Dynasty, following the Qin system, Emperor Wu of Han divided the country into 13 states, and Jingzhou was one of them. At that time, Jingzhou City was one of the top ten commercial cities in the country. During the Three Kingdoms period, it was a key point for hegemony. After that, 11 contending princes and dukes successively proclaimed themselves emperors (kings) and established their capitals here, including Emperor An in the late Eastern Jin Dynasty, Emperor He of Qi, Emperor Yuan of Liang, Emperor Xuan of Houliang in the Southern Dynasty, King of Houliang in the Sui Dynasty, and King of Nanping in the late Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms. This lasted for more than 100 years. Jingzhou in the Tang Dynasty was a secondary capital, called "Nanjun", which echoed the city of Chang'an in the north and south. In the Yuan Dynasty, it was the capital of the Jinghu Province. During the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty, it was the capital of the Huguang Province. After the Ming Dynasty, it has always been the seat of state (prefecture, office) and county.
In the long history of China, the important position and role of Jingzhou have strongly promoted the development and progress of the ancient city of Jingzhou.

It is recommended for those who have a Three Kingdoms complex or are interested in historical relics. I only visited the ancient city wall at Binyang Tower. In fact, after restoration, except for the inscribed bricks on the horse path, I can't feel the antiquity of the city wall. If you want to climb the city wall but don't want to spend money, avoid the Binyang Tower section where you can climb the city wall for free. There will be an iron fence gate blocking the Binyang Tower.
I was lucky enough to go to Jingzhou during the National Day holiday. The light and shadow show was no less than that in big cities. It was very good and I recommend it!
A friend took this photo. Jingzhou is really beautiful in the snow...
It has the most complete ancient city wall in southern China, and also has a long history and legendary stories.
Our trip to Jingzhou started from Zhang Juzheng's former residence, and we took a sightseeing bus along the outer periphery of the ancient city wall to visit Yuan'an Gate, New North Gate, Great North Gate, Three Kingdoms Park, West Gate, New South Gate, Guan Yu Temple, South Gate, and Guandi Temple in turn. We then walked to the Jingzhou Museum and Guan Gong Yiyuan, and finally climbed the city wall from the East Gate and visited Binyang Tower, Wengcheng, etc. We felt the long-standing pre-Chu culture down to earth and listened to popular stories such as "Liu Bei Borrows Jingzhou" and "Guan Yu Loses Jingzhou Due to Carelessness".
The most well-preserved ancient city wall in China, the tour guide explained the idiom stories of "luring the enemy into a trap" and "evil ways", which are quite interesting. If you bring your children here, you can learn more about history and culture, it is still worth a visit.
The Yangtze River rolls eastward, its waves wash away all heroes
Jingzhou played an important role in the Three Kingdoms period, and it also recorded many stories.
The scenery is nice. The moat outside the city wall is currently under maintenance. It would be even better if it were all free. There is a section that you can go up for free.
When I came to Jingzhou for school, I visited the scenic area of Jingzhou. It has a 4A-level ancient city wall with five gates. The city wall is relatively well preserved, but the scenic area is nothing to see. There is no beautiful scenery inside. The city is a commercial area.
This ancient city is still under construction and waiting to be completed. If you like the Three Kingdoms, you can go and have a look.
When we arrived in Jingzhou, the lights were already on. There were people dancing in the square, live broadcasts, children's entertainment programs, and boat rides on the moat. It was very lively. I was very interested in the dimly lit city walls.
The city where I was born and live is a nationally renowned historical and cultural city. I like history and have been reading history books since I was a child. I have a special interest in ancient city walls, and I am determined to walk through all the ancient city walls in China. The results so far have humbled me. The city wall of Jingzhou is my third stop. It is one of the few complete city walls in the country. Although it is not as grand and tall as the one in my hometown, the Jingzhou Municipal Government attaches great importance to and protects this great heritage left by our ancestors. Let's get to the point. Today we started from the West Gate (Anlan Gate). There is no tower at the West Gate. I looked at Wengcheng. I walked south along the city wall. The road surface at the beginning was still earthen. The water quality of the moat outside the city was average. Then I went to the New South Gate (the city gate opened after liberation). There was nothing special about the Guanyu Temple scenic spot. I followed the brick and stone road to the South Gate (Nanji Gate). The tower was destroyed. Then I came to the Small East Gate (Gong'an Gate). This is the only water gate in Jingzhou. When Liu Bei came to Jingzhou from Gong'an, the seat of Jingzhou, he passed through this gate. There was no tower either. I walked for a few minutes and arrived at the East Gate (Yinbin Gate). The tower was (Binyang Tower). It was rebuilt after the founding of the People's Republic of China with great momentum. Continue to go east and turn north to reach the Small North Gate (Yuan'an Gate). There is no tower, but the city of Weng still exists. We continued walking until we reached the New North Gate, which was newly opened after the founding of the People's Republic of China. There is nothing to see. The last stop is the Great North Gate (Gongji Gate). The tower is Chaozong Tower, an ancient artifact built during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty. The whole journey took 5 hours. Haha, I was tired like a dog, but I was very happy.
We walked around the ancient city and there were still many locals walking. The statue of Guan Yu in the distance was huge, but we couldn't take a photo of it from the front. We had to go to the boat to watch the performance to get the best photo opportunity. We saw a group of women in white clothes rehearsing a program inside the city gate. They looked like characters in martial arts movies, adding a new charm to the ancient city.
If you go to Jingzhou, then the Jingzhou Ancient City Wall is a must-see attraction.
The ancient city of Jingzhou, also known as Jiangling City, is one of the famous historical and cultural cities in China. There is a relatively well-preserved ancient city wall of Jingzhou, with a diameter of 3.75 kilometers from east to west and 1.2 kilometers from north to south, covering an area of 4.5 square kilometers. The circumference of the city wall is 10.5 kilometers and the height is 8.83 meters. There are six city gates, each of which has a tower. The ancient city wall of Jingzhou was first built in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. It was once the official ship dock and Zhu Palace of the Chu State. Later, it became the seat of Jiangling County and the initial city wall appeared. After more than 350 years of wind and rain, most of the existing ancient city walls were built in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. The majestic brick city that now stands before people was built in the Ming and Qing dynasties. The brick city is winding, upright, complete and solid. It is the best-preserved ancient city wall in my country's prefectural cities.
It's a rip off to visit Jingzhou Ancient City. The 115 yuan package is totally not worth it. Basically, you just take a sightseeing bus around the city wall. You have to buy tickets for any attractions you need to see. I suggest you don't come to Jingzhou for sightseeing. If you come, it's best to ride a shared bicycle and travel independently without buying tickets.
Jingzhou is one of the nine states established by Emperor Yu. It has a profound historical and cultural heritage and is one of the first 24 famous historical and cultural cities in my country. It is the birthplace of Chu culture and the Three Kingdoms culture, and the location of the Chu capital Ying. It is the best-preserved and largest ancient prefecture city wall in southern my country. The existing city wall was rebuilt during the Shunzhi period of the Qing Dynasty based on the old foundation of the Ming Dynasty. It was built with China's unique glutinous rice lime mortar! Surrounded by a wide moat, it is easy to defend and difficult to attack, and it is strong and durable! The former residence of Zhang Juzheng in the city commemorates the Ming Dynasty politician, reformer, and chief minister who implemented the Kaocheng System and the Yi Tiao Bian System. He was a child prodigy from Jingzhou. He passed the examination for a scholar at the age of 12, a juren at the age of 16, and a jinshi at the age of 23. He entered the cabinet of the Grand Secretary at the age of 42 and became the chief minister at the age of 48. Through drastic reforms, he made the once shaky Ming Dynasty last for 60 years. The four-character commendation of "prime minister and good minister" was written by Emperor Shenzong of Ming, Zhu Yijun, when he was ten years old. It is a pity that the famous prime minister died young, and his reform measures were destroyed in one day, which is a pity!
It is the most worthwhile attraction in Jingzhou. The moat is very wide, which was good for defense in ancient times. However, the wall is not wide, and there is no wall inside, just a slope. In addition, only part of the wall is open.
Listening to the Romance of the Three Kingdoms along the way, walking through the Three Kingdoms City, and heading to Jingzhou, the children were filled with emotion.
Jingzhou was an important town guarded by Guan Yu, a famous general of Shu Kingdom, during the Three Kingdoms period. Therefore, there are many scenic spots and stories related to Guan Yu.
The entire scenic spot of Jingzhou Ancient City is packaged as a national 4A scenic spot. There are Jingzhou Ancient City Wall, Guan Gong Park, Guandi Temple, Zhang Juzheng's Former Residence, performing arts repertoires, etc. There are shuttle buses connecting the scenic spots. The package ticket is 115 yuan. The shuttle bus ticket is 40 yuan. We did not buy a package ticket, but chose to visit the scenic spots.

Since the Qin and Han Dynasties, Jingzhou has been an important town for successive dynasties to establish kings and set up palaces. After the Ming Dynasty, it has been the seat of state (prefecture, office) and county. Jingzhou Ancient City is free, but some small attractions such as Binyang Tower/East Gate, Zhang Juzheng's former residence, and Guandi Temple are charged. It is recommended to buy a 115 yuan/person round-the-city package to visit Jingzhou Ancient City. The package includes four paid attractions, Binyang Tower/East Gate, Zhang Juzheng's former residence, Guandi Temple, and Guan Gong Yiyuan, as well as a round-the-city sightseeing bus (the round-the-city sightseeing bus starts counterclockwise from Binyang Tower and ends at the Public Security Gate on the south side after a circle around the city).
Jingzhou City is located in Jingzhou District, Jingzhou City, Hubei Province. The existing city wall rebuilt in the Ming and Qing Dynasties is 3.75 kilometers long from east to west, 1.2 kilometers wide from north to south, covering an area of 4.5 square kilometers. The circumference of the city wall is 10.28 kilometers and the height is 9 meters. There are eight gates and 2 gatehouses on the city wall. The ancient city of Jingzhou is divided into three layers, with a water city outside, a brick city in the middle, and an earth city inside. The water city (moat) is 10,500 meters long, 30 meters wide, and 4 meters deep. It connects to Taihu Lake in the west and Changhu Lake in the east, and is connected to the ancient Grand Canal.
From Jingchu to the Three Kingdoms, the people are outstanding and the land is beautiful. I like this ancient city, no romantic encounters, no queues, no crowds
The ancient city of Jingzhou is just like that. It has towers and city walls, which are OK. The most worthwhile place to visit is the Jingzhou Museum. The fees are different, you will know when you go there~
The ancient city of Jingzhou is beautiful and is named after the story of "Romance of the Three Kingdoms". It is a good place...

Very historic, but the city wall is very dirty
Jingzhou has a rich history and splendid culture. It is a riverside city where ancient culture and modern civilization complement each other. "When Yu divided the country into nine states, Jingzhou was the first." Jingzhou has a history of more than 3,000 years. Since the Chu State established its capital in Jinan City in 689 BC, six dynasties and 34 emperors have established their capitals here, making it a well-deserved "capital of emperors."

『2015-3-30 Jingzhou Ancient City』
I was very lucky. It was a sunny day with blue sky and white clouds. My friend from Jingzhou and I rented two single bicycles at the East Gate and started to go around the ancient city. There was a moat on the left and a city wall behind. The spring breeze was very nice. There were not many people along the way, so it was relatively smooth to ride. Moreover, the vegetation and trees between each gate were different, so the feeling was also different. My favorite was the Sakura Road and the Metasequoia Road between the West Gate and the Northwest Gate. They were super beautiful. Not to mention the spring, the sun shone through the tree branches on the city wall and the stone road. It was really beautiful. The old South Gate was more congested because it was a leisure gathering place for the elderly nearby. Binyang Tower was not interesting, but it was okay to go up the city wall. PS: The tickets for Binyang Tower and the city wall are 35 yuan/person; the bicycle is 10 yuan/hour, which is a bit expensive, but you can bargain. It takes about two or three hours to go around, depending on your personal situation.
The ancient city of Jingzhou, located in Jingzhou District, Jingzhou City, was first built during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. Most of the existing ancient city walls were built during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The brick city is winding, upright, complete and solid. It is one of the best-preserved ancient city walls in China (locals prefer to believe that these ancient city walls were built by Guan Yu in the Three Kingdoms). The saying "carelessness leads to the loss of Jingzhou" comes from here. The Romance of the Three Kingdoms also made Jingzhou famous. The existing city wall you see was rebuilt in the third year of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty (1646 AD) according to the old foundation of the Ming Dynasty. It was built by filling the seams with glutinous rice and lime mortar, and the brick city wall and the earth city wall relied on each other. The circumference of the ancient city of Jingzhou is about 12 kilometers. The city rises and falls according to the terrain. It has become a tourist attraction that tourists are eager to yearn for and feel the history. It is also the best-preserved and largest ancient city wall in southern my country.
If you are Chinese, you can't avoid talking about the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and you can't avoid talking about Jingzhou when talking about the Three Kingdoms. Jingzhou was the capital of the Chu State during the Warring States Period, and it was also the place where two historical turning points occurred during the Three Kingdoms period. History has left a rich legacy here. It can be said that if you travel to Hubei, you can go to Yichang and Enshi to see the mountains and rivers, go to Wuhan to review modern times, and you must go to Jingzhou to visit ancient sites.
When you go to Jingzhou, you must first see the ancient city wall. The ancient city wall of Xi'an is the longest in the country, and the ten-kilometer-long ancient city wall of Jingzhou is the second longest in the country and the longest in the south. Second, you must visit the museum. Jingzhou Museum is a municipal museum that is not inferior to provincial museums. Third, you must visit Guan Gong. In an ancient city, there is the Guandi Temple at the Old South Gate and the Guanyu Temple at the New South Gate. It is the only place in the country where both a temple and a temple are built within a two-kilometer radius.
Jingzhou Ancient City is not a popular tourist city. It is suitable to visit here during the May Day and National Day periods to avoid the crowds in first- and second-tier cities and enjoy a leisurely stroll here. The food in Shashi is concentrated in Meitai Lane, Dasai Lane, Huangjiatang, and Hongxing Road on both sides of Beijing Middle Road. You can leisurely walk through the streets and alleys and eat while strolling.

My college classmate went to Shashi District, Jingzhou. There weren’t many people there when I went there. The ancient city of Jingzhou is located in the urban area and is very historical. Like the ancient city of Xiangyang, it is an important historical and cultural protection unit in Hubei, and high-rise buildings are not allowed nearby!
The unique brick wall makes it a great experience to walk around it.
When I went to Xiangxi, I passed by Jingzhou and went to the ancient city of Jingzhou.
The well-preserved ancient city wall was built in the third year of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty (1646 AD) based on the Ming city wall. The ancient city of Jingzhou is divided into three layers: the outer layer is the water city, the middle layer is the brick city, and the inner layer is the earth city. It is said that in order to prevent the city foundation from sinking and flooding, glutinous rice paste was poured into the cracks of the right foot stone, so the city wall is particularly strong. It is very helpful to understand the ancient city defense and history. The transportation, facilities, and services in the urban area are very convenient.
This ancient city from the Three Kingdoms period has a long history. The city walls are a bit dilapidated, but it is very unique to take a horse-drawn carriage tour of the ancient city.
Jingzhou, as an ancient city, originated from the story of Liu Bei borrowing Jingzhou during the Three Kingdoms period and never returning. Today, as a new small city, it has preserved some of the relics of that time. If you are a fan and researcher of the Three Kingdoms, you must come here to see it. After all, it had a pivotal strategic position at that time. The whole city is not big, but as a city on the Yangtze River, coupled with the booming tourism industry, it has gradually entered people's field of vision. The city is still very clean, and food and accommodation are very cheap. If you pass by here, you can stop and look for the ancient relics of the Three Kingdoms period!
Jingzhou Ancient City, also known as Jiangling City, is one of the famous historical and cultural cities in China. It has a well-preserved Jingzhou Ancient City Wall.
The ancient city wall of Jingzhou is really quite interesting. The wall is very long, and the complete circle divides Jingzhou into the city and outside the city.
The buildings in the ancient city are relatively low and retro, the streets are narrow, some are still paved with bluestone, and there are trees on both sides. There is a moat outside the city wall, which is connected to the Yangtze River. Dragon boat races are held here every Dragon Boat Festival.
The buildings outside the city are very modern. There are horses on the sightseeing road at the ancient city tower for tourists to take photos, which is quite unique. In addition, there are four scenic spots in the ancient city, including Zhang Juzheng's former residence, to visit.
Jingzhou Ancient City is located in the center of Jingzhou City. It is an old city with hundreds of years of history. Jingzhou Ancient City consists of four gates and four sections of city walls in the southeast, northwest and northeast. The east gate is more famous among the four gates and is also the focus of the tour. Walking under the ancient city, looking at the ancient city walls and bricks, there is a kind of admiration for history in my heart. The ancient city tower is not only a tower, but a urn city composed of two towers. There is a moat outside the ancient city, which is relatively wide. The ancient city is surrounded by modern cities, giving a sense of historical travel.
I have heard about the story of the Three Kingdoms losing Jingzhou due to carelessness for a long time. I had the chance to pass by and decided to experience it in person. The so-called Jingzhou Ancient City now probably only has a circle of tall and thick city walls. The city gates and towers are intact and probably have been renovated. Several city gates are now busy roads. You can rent a bicycle to tour around the city, or spend a few dozen yuan to climb the city wall to overlook the Jingzhou city. It can't be said to be very spectacular, but the ancient monuments and allusions make it worth a visit.
When walking under the tower of Jingzhou Ancient City, it feels like being in ancient times, and I feel inspired. Travelers who like ancient culture may wish to go there^_^. However, the most unforgettable thing about Jingzhou is the golden rapeseed fields, which are simply a paradise on earth and make people linger. ^_^
The ancient city of Jingzhou always reminds people of the history of the Three Kingdoms and its classic stories.
It was my first time in Jingzhou, Hubei. There were not many tourists. I felt that the ancient city wall of Jingzhou was well preserved. If you have enough time, you can rent a bicycle to go around the city wall. It is free if you don't go up the tower. You can slowly feel the strong Chu culture and savor the ancient battlefield of the Three Kingdoms, such as "Liu Bei borrowed Jingzhou", "Guan Yu lost Jingzhou due to carelessness"... Classic historical stories and plots in novels are right in front of you, as if you are in them...
Jingzhou Ancient City is worth visiting. Compared with many places, it is not promoted, but the scenery is there!
Snacks are not to be missed, you must eat them!!!
As a native of Jingzhou, I was quite proud to see the ancient city. The interior of the ancient city is not very big, and there are many people flying kites outside the city wall. There is a fee to go up the city wall, but it is also nice to walk up, trace back, and feel the history.
Jingzhou: It was called Jiangling in ancient times. Now Jingzhou is a small city, a city of consumption. The main cash crop of the locals is cotton, which once drove the local textile light industry. Now it has been relocated. Now the industry is basically zero. People live happily. From the middle-aged and elderly people fishing on the Yangtze River, to the lively square dance and social dance in Salonda Square, and the sound of people playing spinning tops in the distance, there are also children playing various pulleys, which really surprised and novel me. There are people walking their dogs everywhere, and the diet is partial to Snacks with strong spicy taste can be found in many places in Jingzhou, such as biting river shrimps, chewing pot cakes and eating delicious food on Dasai Lane... The city is full of leisure atmosphere. It was the location of Jinan City, the Yingdu of Chu State during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. It was also a famous military town in ancient times. Shashi was also one of the seven trading ports in the Treaty of Shimonoseki. The high city and wide river are still there, but the feeling of tension and strictness has long disappeared. "Liu Bei borrows Jingzhou" and "Guan Yu carelessly loses Jingzhou" have also become the talk of the streets of Jingzhou people. This small city on the Yangtze River has many stories.
A strong Three Kingdoms style and a full ancient city flavor
2008.10
The museum has an open gate. Friends from other places can choose a sunny day to rent a single or multi-person bicycle at the city gate and walk around the loop of the city wall while visiting the scenic spots. Some of the inscribed bricks on the city wall are still clearly visible. Friends who are interested can look for the words on them~~~ There are also costume photos outside the east gate. Those who are interested can also do a cross-dressing. Can you see that the person on the right in the picture below is a girl, that is me~~~~haha
We came to play with classmates. We played for a while under the city. We didn't go up the city wall, so I won't comment on it.
The ancient city of Jingzhou has a history of thousands of years. Here you can see the official seals of the Ming and Qing dynasties on the bricks of the city wall. This wall does not use any modern cement or other items, but it is still standing here with the perseverance of not fearing wind and rain. There are battery cars here that you can take for 10 yuan per person to go around the ancient city. The driver will also give explanations along the way. Walking along the ancient city wall, you can reach Guanyu Temple, Yang Guifei Lotus Pavilion, Zhang Zhengju's former residence, etc.!
This is a travel note, and I still want to provide some useful information for those who travel to Jingzhou in the future, so here is how to play in Jingzhou. Jingzhou is an ancient city. What is ancient about it? First, the ancient city wall, second, the ancient tomb, and third, the museum. Jingzhou City is completely wrapped in the ancient city wall, which has nine gates (six old gates and three new gates) and two gatehouses. The ancient city is divided into three layers, with a water city (moat) outside, a brick city in the middle, and an earthen city inside.
Next, let me talk about the time required to visit various places in Jingzhou. The ancient city wall takes 2-3 hours. You can rent a double or quad bike and ride around the city wall. It takes at least two hours, but the scenery around the city wall is still good, with green trees, a moat next to it, and the lake of the Three Kingdoms Park (I forgot the name). You can have lunch at a nearby hotel at noon. Although it is a tourist attraction, the prices of nearby hotels are not expensive. On the inside of the Great East Gate of the ancient city is the former residence of Zhang Juzheng. When you walk along the city wall, you can see Xuanmiao Temple. Xuanmiao Temple was built in the Tang Dynasty and restored in the Ming Dynasty. If you have enough time, you can visit it. Not far away is the Jingzhou Museum. You can spend the whole afternoon in the museum and listen carefully to the history. Note: There are treasures in the Jingzhou Museum.
After a day of shopping, you have to eat something special, right? There are two places to eat snacks. One is the flower terrace in Jingzhou City, which is very close to the ancient city wall and the museum; the other is Dasai Lane on Beijing Road in Shashi District. This place has more food. It is a little far from the ancient city, but it takes only 40 minutes by bus and 20 minutes by taxi. What to eat? For breakfast, you can eat glutinous rice wrapped in fried dough sticks, drink a bowl of sweet tofu brain, or eat a bowl of Zaotang noodles. These are all very good choices. Don't forget to try Guokui, a kind of baked cake that makes people want to eat it again. It can be eaten in the morning, noon and evening. However, when eating in street shops in Jingzhou, don't be too demanding about hygiene and surrounding environment. In fact, it is similar across the country. If you have all the requirements, you can only choose high-end restaurants.
