Aiwan Pavilion

Aiwan Pavilion is surrounded by mountains on three sides and maple forests on all sides. It is one of the best places to enjoy the autumn scenery of red leaves in Yuelu Mountain.
The name is taken from Du Mu's famous poem "I stop my car and sit to enjoy the maple forest in the evening, the frosted leaves are redder than the flowers in February".
The four corners of the pavilion are tilted upwards and covered with green glazed tiles. This is where Comrade Mao Zedong engaged in revolutionary activities in his early years.
When the Aiwan Pavilion was rebuilt, Mao Zedong personally wrote the three characters "Aiwan Pavilion". The plaque hanging now was made based on Mao Zedong's handwriting.

After visiting Yuelu Academy, we walked out of the back door of the academy and went directly to visit Yuelu Mountain. There are two ways to go to Yuelu Mountain. One is the way Huahuamao went directly to the mountain without passing Yuelu Academy when he first came to Changsha, and the other way is to go up the mountain through Yuelu Academy. Before climbing the mountain, we went to a very famous place: Aiwan Pavilion. Du Mu, a great poet of the Tang Dynasty, once wrote a popular poem: "The stone path is slanting far up the cold mountain, and there are houses where white clouds are born. I stop the car and sit to enjoy the maple forest in the evening, and the frosted leaves are redder than the flowers in February."

By Kitten black_ |

Only in late autumn can we see the beautiful Aiwan Pavilion and maple leaves. Therefore, although the Tang Dynasty poet Du Mu's "Mountain Travel" is so famous, the Aiwan Pavilion in June and October did not make people want to linger too much. The pavilion stood alone in the middle, with lush green plants and many tourists who checked in, making it lose its mystery and only noisy. I don't know if we don't have the good eyes or the ancients' writing is better than reality, which makes people feel disappointed and regretful after high expectations.

With the Aiwan Pavilion as the center, there are several other scenic spots where you can check in and take photos without staying for too long.

By Twenty-nine |

The Aiwan Pavilion, located on the back mountain of the academy, is named after a poem by Du Mu. Its red leaves are picturesque in autumn and it is a landmark attraction in Yuelu Mountain.

If you want to go to the academy, you must go to see the pavilion.

(If you don’t go to the academy and Yuelu Mountain, there’s really no need to make the trip!)

But the truth is: there is no romance of "stop the car and sit to enjoy the maple forest in the evening" at all, there are only N young ladies in Hanfu posing for Douyin, and tourists holding Cha Yan Yue Se glasses and making victory signs.

By the way, there is a Cha Yan Yue Se restaurant next to it.

Aiwan Pavilion was first built in the 57th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1792) by Luo Dian, the principal of Yuelu Academy in the Qing Dynasty. It was originally named Hongye Pavilion. Later, it was renamed Aiwan Pavilion by Bi Yuan, the Governor of Huguang, based on the lines from the poem "Mountain Travel" by the Tang Dynasty poet Du Mu, "I stop my car and sit to enjoy the maple forest in the evening, the frosted leaves are redder than the flowers in February."

The Aiwan Pavilion was built during the Qing Dynasty. The reason why it became one of the four famous pavilions is mainly because it was the site of Chairman Mao Zedong's early revolutionary activities.

In the early 20th century, when Mao Zedong left his hometown of Shaoshan and studied at the First Provincial Normal School in Changsha, he often visited Aiwan Pavilion with his classmates Cai Hesen and others. In 1920, Mao Zedong and Yang Kaihui fell in love, and the two often came to Aiwan Pavilion to talk. In 1955, when Mao Zedong returned to Changsha, he also invited his old classmate Zhou Shizhao to visit the pavilion again.

Aiwan Pavilion is located in Qingfeng Gorge of Yuelu Mountain on the west bank of Xiangjiang River in Changsha City, Hunan Province. It was first built in the 57th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1792) by Luo Dian, the principal of Yuelu Academy in the Qing Dynasty. It was originally named Hongye Pavilion. Later, it was renamed Aiwan Pavilion by Bi Yuan, the Governor of Huguang, based on the poem "I stop my car and sit to enjoy the maple forest in the evening, the frosted leaves are redder than the flowers in February".

At the foot of Yuelu Mountain, outside the back door of Yuelu Academy, the Aiwan Pavilion stands quietly in the shade of lush trees, and is quite interesting to see from afar or up close. However, it is also a scenic spot with more meaning than reality.

Aiwan Pavilion was first built in the 57th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign in the Qing Dynasty. It was named after Du Mu's poem "Stop the car and sit to enjoy the maple forest in the evening, the frosted leaves are redder than the flowers in February". It must be beautiful in autumn, but for a small pavilion, the flow of people is indeed too heavy...

We caught up with a team building of a fund unit. On the steps, people lined up to shout slogans and take photos and videos in one go. The historic building gave people a feeling of passing by a roadside hair salon to encourage employees... And the number of about 20 people was not very short, so it was a bit uncomfortable to occupy the steps... In addition, there was a student outing organized by a school, so I took a photo of everyone following the crowd and then left quickly. The reason why I took a photo was because I wanted to commemorate the mountain road I climbed step by step.

Aiwan Pavilion is located opposite the back door of Yuelu Academy, deep in the Qingfeng Gorge at the foot of Yuelu Mountain. It was built in 1792 and its name comes from the line "Stop the car and sit to enjoy the maple forest in the evening" in Du Mu's "Mountain Travel". Aiwan Pavilion is known as one of the four famous pavilions in China, along with Taoran Pavilion, Huxin Pavilion and Zuiweng Pavilion.

It's right outside the back door of Yuelu Academy. If there weren't any celebrities here, it wouldn't be that great.

By zhm_jinan |

I came here because of its reputation, but its reputation is greater than its actual value. Maybe it was because the various external conditions at that time did not meet the artistic conception.

By Still today |

The Aiwan Pavilion was destroyed during the Anti-Japanese War, rebuilt in 1952 and overhauled in 1987.

By Jiangnan❦Moon without Sleep |

It is one of the four famous pavilions, but when I came, it was snowing, and without maple leaves, the Aiwan Pavilion looked like an ordinary pavilion. There were so many tourists that it almost blocked the view for taking photos. Apart from the restored pavilion, there was no other scenery worth lingering.

By Cheng Xiaohe |

The Aiwan Pavilion doesn't look very old, and it should have been rebuilt in modern times, but it doesn't feel out of place. The important thing is that it is free to visit.

The best time to enjoy ginkgo: October to November. The best time to enjoy maple: mid-to-late November to early December. Tickets: Yuelu Mountain Scenic Area does not charge tickets (friends who are reluctant to part with the beauty of maple leaves can actually pick up a maple leaf to go back and make a specimen~) After passing the gravel road, after a few steps, I finally saw the "Love Evening Pavilion". The Love Evening Pavilion is located on a stone mountain that is neither high nor low. Maple trees are planted unevenly on the stone mountain. People keep going up and down the stone mountain to get the best angle to get the most beautiful maple leaf scenery. It only takes two minutes to climb up the stone mountain. (Even if it is a bit slippery on rainy days) Maybe it is because of hiding from the rain, the small Love Evening Pavilion is very lively. The continuous rain has formed a natural and short barrier for the pavilion. There are vendors carrying loads to sell fruits, friends with complete equipment, lovers with deep affection, and happy and innocent children. A pavilion is a small world. (Except for a few people smoking, which ruined the atmosphere... everything was beautiful.) I hope everyone has a wonderful "encounter" with Aiwan Pavilion~

A small landscape on Yuelu Mountain, one of the four famous pavilions in China, but the pavilion is just a pavilion, there is nothing special about the scenery, it is mainly cultural.

It is indeed a popular check-in spot. There were so many people that I couldn't take pictures of the pavilion. I could only visit it symbolically.

It’s just a small pavilion, but it feels spiritual because of the story it tells.

Not bad, luckily it rained today, so there shouldn't be as many people as usual. There are some red leaves, if they were all red it would be quite beautiful!

My friend got married, and I had the opportunity to go to Changsha for a stroll. It was the wrong season, so I didn't see the beautiful scenery of "Stop the car and sit to enjoy the maple forest in the evening, the frosted leaves are redder than the flowers in February", but the scenery was still really nice. Aiwan Pavilion is located in Qingfeng Gorge, Yuelu Mountain, passing Hunan University, and it is not long after walking.

By Ramon |

When I went to Zhangjiajie and Fenghuang in 2010, I stayed in Changsha for a few days, and the only scenic spot I visited was Yuelu Mountain.

By あHappiness comes first |

We arrived at the Aiwan Pavilion. On the sunny side, there were rugged rockeries and restless people. But when we walked up to the back of the pavilion, it was empty and there was no one.

The Aiwan Pavilion was first built during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. It was originally named "Red Leaf Pavilion" and "Aima Pavilion". Later, it was renamed "Aiwan Pavilion" after the poem "Travel in the Mountains" by Du Mu of the Tang Dynasty: "I stop my car and sit to enjoy the maple forest in the evening, the frosted leaves are redder than the flowers in February."

"Stop the car and sit to enjoy the maple forest in the evening, the frosted leaves are redder than the flowers in February." The name of Aiwan Pavilion comes from this poem "Mountain Travel" by Du Mu. The pavilion was first built during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty and was initiated by Luo Dian, the principal of Yuelu Academy. The pavilion is square in shape, with golden columns and red lacquer on the inside and four columns on the outside. The roof of the pavilion has double eaves and a pointed top. The four corners extend far and high, and are covered with green glazed tiles. It can be reached by walking up the mountain from the Dongfanghong Square at the south gate of Yuelu Mountain Scenic Area for about 10 minutes. You can also walk to it from the back of Yuelu Academy after visiting the academy along the mountain path.

By Rabbit Xiaobai |

Aiwan Pavilion was first built in the 57th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign in the Qing Dynasty by Luo Dian, the president of Yuelu Academy. The couplet written by Luo Dian is engraved on the pillars of the pavilion, "The mountain path is red in the evening, five hundred peach trees are newly planted, the gorge is deep and green, a pair of trained cranes are waiting to be caged". Aiwan Pavilion is one of the four famous pavilions in my country. It was originally named Hongye Pavilion, and later it was renamed Aiwan Pavilion according to Du Mei's poem "The stone path is slanting up the cold mountain, and there are houses deep in the white clouds. I stop my car and sit to enjoy the maple forest in the evening, the frost leaves are redder than the flowers in February".

By Winnie |

"I stop my car and sit to enjoy the maple forest in the evening, the frosted leaves are redder than the flowers in February." The autumn here is so beautiful that people don't want to leave. So when the poet Du Mu stayed here, he was reluctant to leave and couldn't help but write this famous poem that has been passed down through the ages. In autumn, all the maple leaves on the mountain turn red. Looking from the pavilion, it is so beautiful.

Although I describe it vividly, I haven't seen it. It's only summer now, but there are quite a few people seeing it, haha.

By Uzimi |

Stop the car and sit to enjoy the maple forest at dusk. Because of a poem, a scenic spot became famous. Aiwan Pavilion is located on Yuelu Mountain. It is actually a pavilion. But it is a must-see place to appreciate Yuelu Mountain.

By Little Zhu |

There are signs all the way there, so it's easy to find. The Aiwan Pavilion is surrounded by trees. It's summer now, and the leaves are still green. It must be beautiful in autumn.

There were so many tourists that I just took a few quick photos and finished checking in.

By Butter Face |

Aiwan Pavilion is located near the South Gate at the foot of Yuelu Mountain. It was built during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. It was originally named "Red Leaf Pavilion/Aima Pavilion". Later, it was renamed "Aiwan Pavilion" because of Du Mu's poem "Stop the car and sit to enjoy the maple forest in the evening, the frost leaves are redder than the flowers in February". The pavilion is not big, but there are so many tourists who come to check in, breaking the original tranquility and comfort. If you have the opportunity, it must be beautiful to see the maple leaves in autumn!

By Natalie |

When I read Du Mu’s poem “I stop my car and sit to enjoy the maple forest in the evening, the frosted leaves are redder than the flowers in February” in a book before, I always imagined what a pleasant picture that would be.

The Aiwan Pavilion, named after a poem, is full of imagination. Aiwan Pavilion is located in Qingfeng Gorge at the foot of Yuelu Mountain, standing on a hill. Before you get close, the three characters "Aiwan Pavilion" in red and gilded with gold come into view. There are many large stones piled in front of the pavilion, and many maple trees are planted around it. I heard that you can see maple leaves flying in autumn!

By Rachel Yu |

Aiwan Pavilion is surrounded by mountains on three sides and is open to the east. It is more than ten feet long and wide, with lush greenery and flowing springs. There is a pond in front of the pavilion, with peach and willow trees in rows. There are maple forests all around, and the mountains are covered with red leaves in late autumn. In June, you can't see the maple forest in Aiwan Pavilion, but you can enjoy the green scenery. It seems particularly quiet in the hot summer atmosphere.

There are people in front of the Aiwan Pavilion, but the green tree coverage and the appearance of moss here are very different from other scenic spots. It is worth a look.

Looking across the lake at the Aiwan Pavilion, the green mountains and rivers surround it.

The Aiwan Pavilion looks even more poetic from a closer look. I memorized Du Mu's poem in primary school: "Stop the car and sit to enjoy the maple forest in the evening, the frosted leaves are redder than the flowers in February." I can finally see the real scenery. Although I can't enjoy the scenery of the mountains covered with red and the forests covered with dyes, the green also makes people feel the strong breath of life.

It was just an empty hilltop with nothing special about it, so we took some costume photos there and then left.

Aiwan Pavilion is 100 meters away from the exit of Yuelu Academy. Because it is free, various tour groups come one after another. There are indeed red maple leaves, but there are not many. Coupled with the overcrowded tourists, the ancients lost the pleasure of sitting leisurely and admiring the maple leaves. You don’t have to come here specifically for this. Just take a look after visiting Yuelu Academy.
