With the approval of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee, the largest memorial statue of a great man in China today, the Young Mao Zedong Art Sculpture, was built in the Orange Island Scenic Area in 2009. The sculpture is 32 meters high, 83 meters long and 41 meters wide, which respectively represent that Chairman Mao was 32 years old when he wrote Qinyuanchun·Changsha, lived for 83 years and lasted 41 years from the Zunyi Conference to his death. The base of the statue is 3,500 square meters, made of more than 8,000 pieces of Yongding red granite from the mountains of Fujian, with a total weight of about 2,000 tons. The statue is based on the image of Mao Zedong in his youth in 1925, reproducing his full of passion to command the country at that time. It is one of the most representative landmark buildings in Changsha.

When the weather is fine and the air quality is good, it is worth visiting both sides, especially the east bank. The bridge building is beautiful against the backdrop of the clean Xiangjiang River. I only learned from the online taxi driver that Orange Island has a very short history of becoming a scenic spot. He said that it was a small fishing village island that was flooded every year. The government relocated it and turned it into a scenic spot. In addition, the Changsha dialect spoken by Changsha locals is not as easy to understand as those hosts.

The Orange Island Scenic Area is much larger than you might think. You can get to the scenic area by crossing the Orange Island Bridge from Taiping Old Street and going down the bridge in the middle of the bridge. Most of the highlights are on the south side. It takes at least half a day to walk around the south side. If the weather is fine, it is definitely a good place for leisure and vacation.
