Although Yuelu Mountain is a national 5A-level scenic spot, it does not charge admission.

Only the Yuelu Academy in the scenic area sells tickets separately, 50 yuan per person. We entered from the East Gate and took the shuttle bus up the mountain. One-way 20 yuan per person, round trip 30 yuan. You can also take the cable car up the mountain.



Although Yuelu Mountain is not very high, it takes ten miles to walk up the mountain. If you are in good health, you can walk up the mountain. Enter Yuelu Mountain from the East Gate and exit from the South Gate. Or enter from the South Gate and exit from the East Gate without going back. The route design is very reasonable. The mountain road is easy to walk. We took the middle road along the way. The scenic spots are: Baihequan, Lushan Temple, the temporary command post of the Ninth War Zone Command, and Aiwan Pavilion. Every time I go back to my hometown, as long as I can arrange the time, I will stay in Changsha for a night to climb Yuelu Mountain, which is also a kind of sentiment of Hunanese people; the scenery on the mountain is nice, the slope is not too steep, and there are many pavilions and towers, which has a good heritage. For me who likes to climb mountains, it is a very good place to go. In recent years, when I went back, the smog in Changsha became more and more serious, and the city became more and more congested.

Yuelu Mountain is not high. It takes less than 20 minutes to climb to the top of the mountain. There is a temple on the top of the mountain called Gulushan Temple, which is quite popular.



What’s more interesting is that there is a national flag in front of the plaque of Namo Guanshiyin Bodhisattva. Does this mean that even if you are a Chinese Bodhisattva, you have to be managed by the state?

It was raining that day, the cable car stopped, so we chose to go up the mountain by electric car. There are packages for electric cars (including going down the mountain) or one-way going up the mountain. We saw that the ticket price was not much different, so we bought the package.

In fact, it is not necessary. Just buy a ticket to go up the mountain. It is very fast to go down the mountain. Basically, you will reach the Aiwan Pavilion and then enter the Yuelu Academy. The last part of the journey is walked by yourself.

When we reached the top of the mountain, the fog was very thick and visibility was almost zero, so we couldn't climb up to see the beautiful scenery in the distance.

The signs in the scenic area were also very confusing, so we had to use the navigation on our mobile phones to walk around randomly. Fortunately, we did not get lost in the small paths in the mountains. Basically, we saw the tombs of modern revolutionaries. There were many famous patriots who appeared in history textbooks, such as Huang Xing, Cai E, and Chen Tianhua, so we met many students who came here to receive patriotic education.

Yuelu Mountain is one of the four major maple viewing spots in China. It is already mid-November and the maple leaves in the mountains are gradually turning red. If it is later and the weather is sunny, it will be a good place to view the maple leaves.

Although the Yuelu Mountain was closed due to the heavy snow that Changsha had not seen in ten years, this could not stop a curious heart. From the Yuewang Pavilion of Hunan Normal University, I took the wild road to the mountain on the right hand side. I fell several times and walked with difficulty. It was very exciting! It took about a quarter of an hour to meet many passers-by coming up from the lake road on the mountainside. The mountain road was muddy and easy to slip, but fortunately I still reached the road after a bumpy road. In general, Yuelu Mountain is not high, with many small scenic spots and celebrity tombs, and many viewing platforms can overlook Orange Island.

Yuelu Mountain is connected to Hunan University, and Yuelu Mountain closes at 12:00 at night and opens at 6:00 in the morning. I envy the students of Hunan University. They climb the mountain when they have nothing to do, take a walk after dinner, and get up early in the morning to go for a morning run or morning reading, which can really purify their lungs.

We entered from Dongdaemun. There are no attractions here. You need to take a cable car to the attractions. It costs 30 yuan per person. The cable car is very slow and takes more than ten minutes. People with acrophobia should not take it. I am not afraid of heights, but I was a little scared at the beginning. You can choose a sightseeing bus and drive all the way up~

It was foggy and drizzling that day, just like Silent Hill. The red leaves of Yuelu Mountain are unique, so you can come to Yuelu Mountain in autumn to see the red leaves. Now there are only fallen leaves or a few small yellow leaves~

The autumn maple leaves and ginkgo trees of Yuelu Mountain are very beautiful. Yuelu Mountain is not very high, only 300 meters. Yuelu Mountain is at Exit 3 of Yingwan Town Metro Station. Follow the signs for about 500 meters to the north gate. It is relatively easy to find.

There are cable car tickets for going up and down the mountain sold at the main gate. It is recommended to take the cable car from the North Gate Cable Car to the top of the mountain to overlook the beautiful scenery of Xiangjiang River, and then walk down to the South Gate. This is more labor-saving, and most of the attractions in the scenic area are gathered near the South Gate, which is convenient for careful viewing.

The cable car has no glass, so it is very convenient to see the scenery, but I was still a little timid when I first got on. In summer, the breeze blows on your face, overlooking the Xiangjiang River, looking at the lush greenery around you and hearing the chirping of birds, believe me, you will fall in love with this city and this summer sun. But if you come here in autumn or winter, please be sure to wear more clothes, because the autumn rain is cold, the autumn wind is blowing, and the sky and the earth are shivering, and it is a bit cold.

Red roofs, green trees, high-rise buildings in the distance, the Xiangjiang River nurtures the scenery on both sides of the river. You sit on the cable car and look at the scenery, feeling both in it and out of it.

The forests are covered with green. I am used to the bleakness of Beijing, but here they are really colorful and beautiful. Yuelu Mountain was full of people that day, probably because of the red leaves. I went up from the East Gate because there is a cable car. This cable car can be taken for a very long time. It costs 30 yuan and you can sit for about 15 minutes. If I hike up the mountain, I am afraid I will not be able to bear it. After all, it is still a bit high. There is no scenery on the cable car side, but there are more tombs of martyrs. You can go down the mountain from the South Gate, and you will pass by Aiwan Pavilion, Gulushan Temple, Yuelu Academy and Hunan University. But there are too many people, and I don’t want to stay in many places.

Yuelu Mountain is located on the west bank of the Xiang River in Changsha City, Hunan Province, that is, in the Hexi area. I originally wanted to take the cable car, but because my aunt is over 65 years old, the staff refused to let her take the bus, so I had to take the bus instead. However, if you want to take the cable car, you must queue up very early, because there are too many people, and you need to wait in line for a long time. You also need to queue up for the sightseeing bus, but fortunately the waiting time is not too long.

The queue at the entrance is where you buy cable car and sightseeing bus tickets. Don't queue up here as there are too many people. There are ticket offices where you can take the cable car and sightseeing bus, but there is no queue there.

Located in the west of Changsha, on the west bank of the Xiangjiang River, it is a free 5A scenic spot, with a cableway of 30 and Yuelu Academy of 50. It is said that the red leaves in December are unique, but it is still green in September. I came more for the heavy historical and cultural heritage inherited on the mountain.

I passed by Hunan University and entered from the South Gate. I climbed for two hours to the sightseeing corridor. The steep slope was okay with some rests, but I almost vomited and wanted to give up after climbing hundreds of steps to the Aiwan Pavilion.

Insist on climbing to the top of the mountain not to see the Xiangjiang River but just to slide 😉, I recommend the Yuelu Mountain slide, 35 yuan. There is a car to the slide in the corridor, and the slide is 5 minutes to the east gate entrance!

Yuelu Mountain Tips

Yuelu Mountain is not high and can be climbed by anyone with average physical strength. If you don’t want to climb the mountain, you can take a shuttle bus or cable car up the mountain.

Yuelu Mountain has two gates, the East Gate and the South Gate.

The route is generally to enter from the east gate and exit from the south gate, or enter from the south gate and exit from the east gate, without turning back the entire time.

There are no attractions to see along the way from the east gate to the top of the mountain. It is a pure waste of energy and time.

The basic attractions are all on the way from the top of the mountain to the south gate.

Aiwan Pavilion, Hunan University and the Academy are all at the foot of Nanmen Mountain.

It is recommended to take the cable car from the East Gate to the top of the mountain, and then walk slowly from the top of the mountain to the South Gate when going down the mountain.

The scenery is pretty good and worth a visit. Yuelu Mountain is still very famous, especially the Aiwan Pavilion.

The mountain fences behind the mountain are layered, and the snowy Yuelu Mountain is even more spiritual and poetic, but the road surface is a bit unbearable.

Yuelu Mountain, with a light mist after the rain, makes people feel like in a dream. The characteristic attractions are mainly concentrated next to the gate on the Hunan University side, Aiwan Pavilion + Yuelu Academy. Other areas are not very interesting to visit. There are more cemeteries in the scenic area. The mountain is slightly lower and smaller. The overall scenery is good and suitable for taking pictures. The red flowers and green leaves are proportional and the scenery is pleasant!

There is Yuelu Academy, a thousand-year-old academy, which is very similar to the Confucian Temple. There is also Aiwan Pavilion, etc. The environment is very quiet.

Climb the mountain leisurely, sit on the reclining chair on the observation deck and look at Changsha, and after going down the mountain, try Changsha snacks, such as stinky tofu, sugar-coated glutinous rice cakes, and big sausages...

Take the cable car up and walk down, it's a must-go

Wuhan is only 1.5 hours away from Changsha by train. I went to Yuelu Mountain that day to experience the atmosphere of "Stop and Sit to Enjoy the Maple Forest Evening". The weather was fine and everything was beautiful.

Yuelu Mountain Scenic Area is a 5A scenic area with many scenic spots. Due to time constraints, I did not have a good time this time. I only visited Yuelu Academy and Aiwan Pavilion. The ticket to Yuelu Academy is 50. Except for the cable car which costs 30, there are basically no other fees for other places. If you come to Changsha, this should be a must-visit place.

Wow, it's winter and I'm sweating all over. There are many small attractions, but most of them are about beautiful legends. The Aiwan Pavilion is one that is really worth visiting, and the Yuelu Academy at the foot of the mountain is also worth visiting.

Because I went there in winter. I couldn't see a lot of things. The height is not very high, so the whole family can go there. The scenery is okay. It's a bit remote, but there is Hunan Normal University next to it, so you can take a break. It's free and there is a cable car.

Walk to Bajiaoting bus stop and take bus 202, get off at Xinmin Society Former Site bus stop (2 stops), the T-junction is the main entrance of Yuelu Mountain. There is a ticket booth for sightseeing buses on the right side of the main entrance, but the departure point of the sightseeing bus is 200 meters ahead of the main entrance, where there is also a ticket booth. I bought a ticket for two trips (30 yuan), one from the main entrance to the top of the mountain, and the other from the top of the mountain to Yuelu Academy, Aiwan Pavilion, and Hunan University. When I was riding the sightseeing bus, I saw the cable car, um, it was the kind of primitive iron pipe cable car without a glass cover. It was too sour, I admitted that the sightseeing bus was more suitable for me. The wind on the top of the mountain was quite strong, but it was okay because there was sunshine, it was not cold, and the scenery was also beautiful.

Yuelu Mountain has become a bit scholarly because of Yuelu Academy, and it is full of the fragrance of culture. You can relax and walk slowly.

Yuelu Academy and Aiwan Pavilion at the foot of Yuelu Mountain are must-visit places when visiting Changsha. It took more than an hour to climb up the mountain to see Yunlu Palace and Lushan Ancient Temple. I felt that I didn’t need to expend any energy, so I might as well stroll around Hunan University.

The hostess told us that it only takes 30 minutes to climb the mountain, so we chose to climb the mountain by ourselves. But the fact is that we climbed for a long time and were very tired, and there was not much scenery along the way from the east gate. I suggest that you still take the cable car to the mountain, so as not to get tired when you go out to play.

Maybe I went at the wrong time. It was rainy and foggy, so I couldn't see anything... There weren't many red leaves, no maple forest, only a few small maple trees. Maybe I had too high expectations. Compared with Guiyang's Qianling Mountain and Chongqing's Nanshan Mountain, it felt similar.

It is a traditional scenic spot that still has the heritage of Hunan and is worth a visit.

The terminal of the sightseeing bus is next to the sightseeing corridor at the top of the mountain. The operating hours are 8:30-17:00. According to my observation, there are three types of vehicles on the top of the mountain. One is a green battery car, which goes from the East Gate to the top of the mountain. You can also take a cable car from the East Gate, and the upper station is a few hundred meters north of this parking lot. It is boring to walk up the mountain from the East Gate. The gray minibus goes from the South Gate to the top of the mountain. The other is a yellow bus painted like a classic car. It is Changsha's No. 6 bus, which goes from the top of the mountain through the South Gate to the city. There are many cultural attractions when hiking from the South Gate. Yuelu Academy, Aiwan Pavilion, Sui Relics Pagoda, Lushan Temple, Cai E's Tomb, Huang Xing's Tomb, etc. are all on this line, only Yunlu Palace is a little far away. It was a weekend, the weather was good, and there were a lot of people. The observation deck on the second floor was crowded with people, and the view was not as good as the railing next to the road, so I went to the side of the road to overlook the Xiangjiang River. Yuelu Mountain is west of the Xiangjiang River, so I planned to go to Yuelu Mountain in the afternoon and go to the Hunan Provincial Museum the next morning to watch the Xiangjiang River from the top of the mountain. I have seen the Xiangjiang River many times before by ordinary trains and high-speed trains in Hengyang, Zhuzhou and other places, and have crossed the Xiangjiang River on the bridge many times, but this is the first time I have seen the Xiangjiang River up close and leisurely.

Only in Chu are there talented people, and they flourish here, which shows how prosperous the academy was in those days. It has a strong sense of history, and I like to go to such places now. It's a pity that I didn't understand it very well when I went there.

We went up the mountain from the South Gate. I didn't expect that climbing a mountain would be so difficult. It took us 3 hours to get on the cable car. If it wasn't for the handsome sesame cakes and the cable car, I really wouldn't come back. The cable car is a very old-fashioned model, open-top and open-air, so exciting. Especially when getting on the car, you have to stand in a fixed place and wait for the car to come. Once it touches your butt, you can sit down directly. Because it won't stop. It took 10 minutes to go up the mountain, but it was not easy to go down the mountain. After walking for a long time, we finally came to: Stop and sit to love the maple forest in the evening, the frost leaves are redder than the flowers in February, but it's a pity that I haven't seen the red leaves yet. As for Yuelu Academy, it is one of the four major academies. There is an additional fee to enter, so I think it's unnecessary. I'd better go find something to eat after watching it. There is a snack street as soon as you exit the North Gate.

It's a small hill, and it's also a park. There are no tickets, but there are multiple entrances. We can take the cable car up the mountain from the entrance we entered, and there are also sightseeing buses. Aiwan Pavilion and Yuelu Academy are all here, so you need to walk wildly.

The scenery of Yuelu Mountain is nice. I went there in July and climbed halfway up the mountain before coming down. It is said that it looks even better after it snows in winter.

I remember I went there by bicycle. There was a cable car that could take me up the mountain. When I came down, there were too few instructions and it didn't have many special features. I could see the city scenery and some check-in spots.

There are no scenic spots on the road from the gate of this scenic area (should be East Gate) near the former site of the New People's Association to the top. If the time is right, it is indeed suitable to take public transportation to go up.

In fact, the altitude is only 308 meters, but I felt tired and sweaty. The cool breeze and the large amount of pollution-free oxygen were the only things that made me feel comfortable.

There are so many people, so many people. I came here today just to see the crowds.

The best way to visit is to take the cable car up the mountain from the East Gate and down the mountain from the South Gate. All the scenic spots are on the South Gate line. When you get off the mountain, you will see the Hunan University Student Street. It was 1pm when we went there, but it was the Mid-Autumn Festival and there were a lot of people. In the end, my lazy roommate chose to take a bus up the mountain. It cost 20 yuan per person and the student ID card could not be used. My mother and I walked for about 40 minutes. It was not very high, but there was really no scenery and it was a bit boring. So the cable car was actually the best choice.

After an hour of walking and stopping, and looking at the scenery, we finally reached the viewing pavilion on the top of the mountain. The sun was very strong that day, but the Xiangjiang River was misty, and I didn't bring a telephoto lens, so I couldn't see the distant scenery clearly.

As I get older, I start to pay more attention to my knees, so I decided to take the cable car down the mountain.

But this cableway is too simple, with just a chair and a guardrail. The whole time I was wondering why we haven't reached the bottom of the mountain yet. I hope we can get there sooner, sooner, sooner... I was so scared that I didn't dare to move.

Go up the mountain from Yuelu Academy and then go down from Qianmen. Yuelu Mountain itself is free. There is a pretty good temple inside, but it is just an ordinary mountain.

You can zipline at the East Gate, and the South Gate is a little quieter near the scenic area. We originally planned to go up the East Gate by zipline, but it was under maintenance at the time. We had to take a sightseeing bus instead, which costs 30 yuan per trip. When you arrive at the terminal, you can go shopping. If you see a bus with a ticket, you can stop it halfway.

Take the cable car up the mountain and feel the visual impact of overlooking the other mountains.

It takes 10-15 minutes to walk up the mountain from the ticket office to the cable car. There were fewer people at 2 o'clock. There was only a guardrail in front of the cable car. People would hang on the cable car. At first, I was a little afraid of heights. The cable car would shake if I moved a little. We didn't bring a sun umbrella, so we could only sit on the hot cable car under the scorching sun at noon and arrived at the top of the mountain in about 20 minutes.

There is nothing to see at the top of the mountain, but there is a "mamamcha" shop that drinks delicious drinks. It is also nice to take a break under the air conditioning.

When I went up the mountain and looked at the map, I found that Yuelu Mountain has two gates, one is the East Gate and the other is the South Gate.

We came up from Dongdaemun, which was only about 45 minutes away from the foot of the mountain.

It takes about 2 hours to walk from the top of the mountain to the South Gate, but there are many attractions along the way, such as "Yuelu Academy, Aiwan Pavilion, Lushan Temple", etc. You can also go to Hunan University when you go down the mountain.

To be honest, I climbed up here just to ride the slide, haha

The slide is 35 yuan per person. There is a ticket window for sightseeing buses at the top of the mountain. You can also buy the slide there.

After buying, find the special sightseeing bus for the slide and wait for about 10 minutes. When the bus is almost full, the driver will drive you to the slide.

After Yuelu Academy, we went up the mountain to Aiwan Pavilion, then climbed all the way to Cai E's tomb, and then went to Lushan Temple and Yunlu Palace, and finally went down the mountain from the South Gate. It was worth the effort.

Yuelu Mountain is over 300 meters above sea level. It is one of the 72 peaks of Nanyue Hengshan Mountain, called Linglu Peak, and is located on the west bank of Xiangjiang River in Changsha City. Yuelu Mountain is lush with forests and grasses. There are all kinds of famous trees such as Ligustrum lucidum, Ginkgo, Camphor, Alnus, Castanopsis, Liquidambar formosana, and ancient trees over a thousand years old can also be seen. Peach blossoms, winter jasmine, magnolia, wintersweet, osmanthus, lily, hibiscus, rose and other flowers and trees are everywhere in the mountains. Thrushes, orioles, cuckoos and cuckoos are singing in the forests of Yuelu Mountain. Yuelu Mountain is secluded, with thousands of deep valleys and thousands of springs. If you climb Yuelu Mountain in autumn, you can experience a quatrain by the Tang Dynasty poet Du Mu: "The stone path is slanting far up the cold mountain, and there are houses in the depths of white clouds. I stop my car and sit to enjoy the maple forest in the evening, and the frost leaves are as red as flowers in February."

If you are a mountain climbing enthusiast, you can choose to hike up the mountain. Obviously, we are not. We took the cable car. After getting off the cable car, we can find some attractions according to the signs and the map: there are attractions that we are more interested in every few steps along the way down the mountain, such as the ancient Lushan Temple and the Aiwan Pavilion. If you get up early, you can visit all the above attractions. Anyway, after the day's walk, I returned to the hotel and sat there for half an hour before I recovered~

I suggest you spend some money to buy a ticket and take the sightseeing bus. It takes a long time to climb up and it is tiring. To be honest, there is no scenery on the way up the mountain from East Gate 2. It is really not worth it if you climb up. We just climbed to the top of the mountain to see the bird's-eye view of the city, and then we took the bus down the mountain. The sightseeing bus took guests to Yuelu Academy.

There are two official gates in the scenic area - East Gate and South Gate. I personally recommend taking a bus to Hunan University, passing through the university campus and Denggao Road, walking up the mountain from the South Gate, and taking the cable car to the East Gate after reaching the TV Tower. In this way, you can visit several famous attractions such as Aiwan Pavilion and Yuelu Academy on the way up the mountain, and you can take the opportunity to take the cable car to see the scenery of Changsha City when going down the mountain, saving time and effort to the greatest extent.

The scenic area is free, but the cable car ticket needs to be purchased at the ticket office of the South Gate, and the one-way down trip is 25 yuan. There are also battery cars for tourists to choose from, but I don't think it is too necessary, because if you just climb the mountain along the classic route, leaving out some less interesting points, people like me with good legs and feet can reach the cable car station of the TV tower in at most 40 minutes. There is a very rugged mountain road, but it is relatively short, and the road will become relatively flat after passing it. The ancient temple in the mountain is quiet and mysterious, and the charm of the first temple in Hunan is still there. After reaching the top of the mountain, a sightseeing corridor is particularly comfortable. Be sure to prepare for heatstroke when playing in Yuelu Mountain, and have enough drinking water.

The view from the observation deck on the top of the mountain is not very good, and the hot weather makes everything in front of you seem to be covered with a layer of steaming fog. Walking along the road on the top of the mountain for 15 minutes, you can reach the TV tower. There is a food street here, and snacks and cold drink shops such as Mama Tea can be used as a place to rest. Taking the cable car down the mountain is much more enjoyable. The speed is moderate, and the slight breeze makes people feel refreshed. The cable car is very long, and it took nearly half an hour to get down. Following the instructions to walk out of the scenic area, looking back, Dongdaemun is much more luxurious than Namdaemun.

Yuelu Mountain itself is nothing special. Like the green mountains that can be found around every city, it is just a place with lush vegetation and fresh air where you can exercise and climb to see the distant view. However, with the presence of Hunan University, Yuelu Academy and Aiwan Pavilion, it adds a sense of ancient ink fragrance and profound cultural atmosphere.

I took a taxi to Hunan University and walked through the campus. Around me were silent red brick teaching buildings and buses and cars speeding by. Because there were no walls or gates and it was completely open, outsiders could come and go at will, and buses could run inside the school. This was quite unusual for me, who had been confined within the high walls of the school since childhood.

After passing Hunan University, you will reach Yuelu Academy. The ticket price is 100 yuan. The high ticket price completely diluted my yearning for the thousand-year-old institution of higher learning and my determination to let my children receive some cultural influence. I chose to pass by directly, then pass through the Aiwan Pavilion and climb up Yuelu Mountain.

The mountain is not high or steep. With the encouragement of his mother, a 3.5-year-old child can climb almost all the way down. However, the sightseeing electric cars that pop out from time to time are too unsightly, and the shrill whistles also destroy the unique tranquility of the mountain forest, so I have to remind my child to avoid them all the time. Fortunately, when we climbed to the top of the mountain, there was a forward-projecting sightseeing platform on it. Blowing the mountain breeze, overlooking the Xiangjiang River and Changsha City, the broad vision swept away the unpleasantness on the way and made people feel a little comfortable.

I agreed with my child that I would give her a gift at each place we visited. At the top of the mountain, she picked out a mini folding umbrella. Although small, it can be opened and closed freely like a real umbrella. It is exquisitely made and beautifully colored. She loved it very much. On the return train, she played with it with great interest. For a 3-year-old child, the scenery will soon fade away, but this small umbrella, which cost only 10 yuan, may become her best memory of the trip to Changsha.

As a 5A scenic spot, Yuelu Mountain does not charge admission (nor does it charge any symbolic fee), which is truly the conscience of the 5A scenic spot community!

We started climbing the mountain at about noon (definitely true love). The sun was blazing, but fortunately the mountain was covered with vegetation, and leaves provided shade most of the way, and we could feel the breeze from time to time. For those who don't want to walk up the mountain, you can take a cable car or electric car to the mountain.

Yuelu Mountain is one of the four major maple viewing spots in China. Although I didn't catch up with the red leaf season, this season also has its own red. The scenic area includes Yuelu Academy, Aiwan Pavilion, Lushan Temple, Yunlu Palace, the former site of the New Citizen Society, Huang Xing's Tomb, Cai E's Tomb and other attractions. If you are interested in these cultural landscapes, you can go and see them.

Standing on the top of Yuelu Mountain, overlooking the Orange Island, looking at the lush green mountains, imagining "the whole mountain is covered with red, and the layers of forests are dyed red" is a unique feeling.
